Summary Of Edward Morgan Forster sThe Machine Stops
As our society continues to develop, the advanced technology has changed people s lives in many
respects. When people enjoy the convenience of using touchpad during class, contacting a person who
lives a thousand miles away via FaceTime, and storing live data in the online cloud, there will be a
long term and serious consequences resulting from overuse of technology. About a century ago,
Edward Morgan Forster, in his short novel The Machine Stops, has already accurately predicted
human s future through presenting an image of how human s exponentially increasing dependence on
technology makes them weak, and ultimately decease. The story happens in the future where human
beings who has lost their ability to live on the surface of earth live in a subterranean cell, with all
physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs met by the Machine. With the Machine, people believe they
live in a perfect world. All of the people believe they live in a perfect world, except Kuno, who finds
the flaw that can destroy the society. Kuno s concern is treated as madness by his mother Vashti.
Forster s theme concerns envisioning the earth in the future when the use of technology is at its climax
and every sphere of life is dependent on it. He exploits his idea by illustrating that the development of
the sophisticated technology will ultimately control human beings and annihilate their ability to think
critically and live independently, making them treat the Machine like a god. Therefore, through

Coevolution With Particular Reference to Herbivory Essay
COEVOLUTION WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO HERBIVORY
Of all the extant organisms in the world, it is believed that terrestrial plants and their natural enemies
constitute more than forty percent. Moreover, plants exhibit a remarkable diversity of supposedly
defensive characteristics including trichomes, spines, silica, secondary chemical compounds, temporal
avoidance of enemies, and structures along with chemicals that attract predators of their natural
enemies. In addition, the exploitation of the plants and their defences is facilitated by a vast number of
behavioural, morphological and physiological adaptations by herbivores
Accounting for this diversity has been a major area of research for nearly a century. The seminal

What happened in the past might be a different picture to what we have envisaged so far.
Thompson (1999) has proposed that there are crucial components to coevolution. These need to be
recognised before we can fully understand coevolution. Firstly, phylogenetic studies are providing five
kinds of data important in interpreting the historical context of coevolving interactions. 1) Shared
traits. Phylogenetic studies are allowing us to evaluate which traits of interacting species were already
present in the hosts ancestors. This allows us to determine whether traits are coevolved or merely a
trait exhibited as a consequence of the organisms genotype. For example, Yucca plants provide a
source of food for host specific Yucca moths, with which they are believed to have coevolved.
Examining the phylogenetic trees of these moths elucidated this. Most moths in this family
(Prodoxidae) exhibited host specificity (Davis et al 1992). Before this technology, people would have
assumed the specificity of the Yucca moth to be a product of the coevolution.
This brings up a useful comment by Vermeij (1994). Almost all inferences about coevolution are
derived from the existence of trends in the expression of traits that function during interactions
between species. Evolutionary trends have often been found by analysing ancestor dependant
relationships within monophyletic groups, or clades. Although many trends are best sought this way,
others cannot in principle be detected

Media And Gender Stereotypes
Sheryl Sandberg, an activist, once said We can each define ambition and progress for ourselves. The
goal is to work towards a world where expectations are not set by the stereotypes that hold us back,
but by our personal passion, talents, and interests. Media is easily accessible to many and is where
millions look for role models. Through the media, high standards are set for women, men, and
children all more than likely unattainable. Body types are knit picked along the side of what people
wear. TV programs will speak about their political views, opinions, and beliefs and at this age, it s
hard to understand what all of it truly means.
Most of the time we will just go with what everyone else believes, it s easier and they won t cause any
conflict. All of this is forced upon us without asking for it, eventually affecting the outlook on certain
things and permanently altering emotions towards serious matters. This is something that I would not
wish upon anyone, but it is actually happening to everyone. The media is full of perception altering
advertisements and television programs that cause the subconscious to forever be revised to the
opinions and beliefs presented.
The most commonly discussed problem with media advertisements is the stereotypes that are fed,
especially gender stereotypes. Stereotyping is described as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified
image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Print advertisements, television

Promoting Universal Design Of Learning
The cast website was designed to give teachers, and future teachers some tools on how to better teach
their students. It also helps promote the use of a learning curriculum design called the Universal
Design of Learning also known as (UDL). One other thing about the website it looks like it was
designed to be of easy use, and easy access of the materials that are on the site. A reason that the
website is promoting Universal Design of Learning is so that teachers can reach all of their students
learning types, while only having to teach a subject one time rather than multiple times. Some other
reasons why this program is important for teachers to know about is that according to the cast website
CAST researches and develops innovative solutions to make education more inclusive and effective
(cast.org, 2015). An important thing to know is it allows teachers more ways of differentiating in their
classrooms, so that they can make sure to get all of their students learning needs met when they are
teaching their classes. It is important to know because according to the website it is researchers are
working to:
Develop promising approaches for increasing the accessibility and potential effectiveness of online
learning for students with disabilities. These may include accessibility and support features for online
learning, providing supplementary offline resources, individualizing online learning, identifying and

The Cicones In The Odyssey
Cicones were a Homeric Thracian tribe, whose stronghold in the time of the Odyssey was the town of
Ismara, located at the foot of mount Ismara on the south coast of Thrace, in modern Greece. After they
raided the Cicones they made there way over to the Land of the Lotus Eaters. The Lotus is a plant
which affects your brain when consumed to make you want to stay on the island and eat it for the rest
of your life. Some of Odysseus s men were taken over by the lotus plant, but overcame it when the
other crew members made them stop. One of the biggest problems Odysseus s crew had to overcome
was being turned into swine by Circe.
Circe drugged a number of Odysseus s men, which turned them into swine. When Odysseus goes to
rescue them, Hermes confronts him in the form of a young man. He tells Odysseus to eat a herb called
moly to protect himself from Circe s drug. Odysseus did what the young man, HermĆØs, told him to do
and lunged at Circe when she tried to hit him with her sword. After escaping Circe, Odysseus and his
men took back to his ships and sailed off. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sirens were dangerous creatures, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing
voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their islands and to counter the Sirens they had to plug their

land of Calypso. Odysseus wasn t very loyal to his wife on this whole journey and he definitely was
not at the island of Calypso in which he had many affairs with multiple women for several years.

Edgar Allan Poe s Theme Of Poetry
Edgar Allan Poe was and still is known as one of the best poets/short story writer. He was also the first
well known writer to make a living off of his profession. All in all he was one of the best of his time
and still is considered the best. His poems and short stories were dark and gritty; he wasn t really
known for his feel good poems but ones that explored darkness. Some of his best poems were The
Valley of Unrest , The Raven , and Annabel Lee . These poems had themes of love, death, and the
supernatural. One of Poe s most sad poem was the The Valley of Unrest . This poem talks about a
village in which war has already broken out and is now empty because of it. Now each visitor shall
confess/ The sad valley s restlessness. (Poe 9 10). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Annabel Lee Poe writes about a man who loves a woman... shocker. But this is a different type of
love poem. Annabel Lee was a woman that the man knew as a teenager. He loved her a lot and she
loved him a lot. Even though people were telling them that they had no idea what love was because
they were so young, they knew they were in love. Sadly she dies from what only can be interpreted as
a type of disease. He blames it on the angles and says that even the angles could not keep their love
separated. He then goes and lies next to her grave every night remembering her. There isn t really a set
rhyme scheme but he keeps coming back words that rhyme with lee. It is most likely free verse since
there isn t no set rhyme scheme. He also might be rhyming with lee to emphasize his love for her.
There is a lot of symbolism going on here but the most important one are the angles. You would
always think that angles are good and right, but Poe paints them as bad dudes. The angels, not half so
happy in Heaven,/ Went envying her and me /Yes! that was the reason (as all men know, In this
kingdom by the sea) / That the wind came out of the cloud by night, / Chilling and killing my Annabel
Lee. (Poe). Another symbole is Annabel Lee herself. She represents love and passion. She seems like
the perfect women that the man has painted. Of the beautiful Annabel Lee (Poe). Some themes that
were prevalent throughout the poem was love, hate, and darkness. She loved Annabel so much and no
one could tell him otherwise. But our love it was stronger by far than the love (Poe). There love was
so strong the death couldn t even stop them and he lies with her at night next to her grave. A very
prevalent theme throughout the poem was hatred. He hated the angles and god for taking his beloved
away from him. Finally like in most of his poems there was supernatural. He brings in heaven and
hell, angels and demons which are all supernatural events. I

Hong Kong Independence And Protests
Hong Kong Independence and Protests
Introduction
For about one hundred and fifty years, Hong Kong fell under the political administration of the British
rule, their colonial masters.
On July 1st, 1997 the British rule gave way to the People s Republic of China, who took over Hong
Kong s sovereignty. With this move, Hong Kong was declared a Special Administrative Region, in the
end that they would be fully autonomous, save for the Defense and Foreign Affairs dockets. This
would therefore mean that Hong Kong would conduct its affairs under the Basic Law, but even then
their interpretations could be amended by mainland China at any given time. It would go without
saying, that judicial processes are always known to rule in favor of the bigger ... Show more content

Notable again is the fact that The Chief Executive of the region has powers to appoint or to dismiss
the top team for his government, which is mandated with the formulation of government policies.
According to the Basic Law that guides legal matters in Hong Kong, the region would ultimately
embrace universal suffrage in conducting electoral processes, especially with regard to the position of
The Chief Executives.
To this extent, the law was silent on when and how this would be realized, and has been the epicenter
for Hong Kong s cry for independence, and the various protests from civil rights groups and students
bodies. Various instruments have been used to spearhead an end to these serious controversies, which
continue to ripple the society apart in this day and era of great civilization and human rights activism.
In this book, we will give a brief highlight of numerous items that are central in the roadmap to Hong
Kong independence, noting how far the region has come, and what is the legal standing of China, the
influence of Beijing, and other world leaders.
1. The British Rule exits: On July 1st, 1997, the British rule gave way to the People s Republic of
China, who took over Hong Kong s sovereignty. This must have been deemed to be the start of great

Water Fluoridation Essay
fluoridation, the price of treating tooth decay would be about $117. Fluoridation in larger communities
containing 1,000 to 3,000 people showed that dental cost savings exceeded fluoridation costs , and the
annual saving per person ranged between $15.95 and $18.62. Communities with a population size of
about 800 900 showed that the cost of fluoridation was equal to the dental cost savings while smaller
communities did not save on costs unless there was a reduction in tooth decay. Other sources of
fluoride include mouthwash, toothpaste and fluoride tablets. Fluoride tablets are less beneficial than
fluoridated water in the fact that across a long period of time, they are less cost effective, have to be
taken everyday but only last for three hours and provide less fluoride than fluoridated water. From a
solely economic view, water fluoridation is the most cost effective way of lowering tooth decay in
communities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Negative Effects Of Oil Drilling
As polar ice in the Arctic region melts, there are many implications associated with it. The melting ice
opens up sea lanes, providing access to priceless natural resources, such as the estimated 90 billion
barrels of the world s undiscovered oil (Karaim 336). For the United States, this is a great opportunity.
Access to these energy reserves would open up expansion of the oil industry, which advocates of oil
drilling say will lead to extensive economic development (Karaim 335) in northern Alaska and the rest
of the Arctic region. However, scientists caution that an increase in oil drilling will have destructive
effects on the environment. Increased greenhouse gas pollution from oil drilling facilitate global
warming, which will melt even more polar ice, absorbing more sunlight and harming vivid Arctic
ecosystems. The higher risk for oil spills will harm marine wildlife, which translates to harming the
indigenous Arctic peoples. Their diets will be altered, new diseases will be introduced, and the
changing of the Arctic land will restrict their rich cultural traditions and lifestyles. Although oil
drilling will facilitate economic development in the Arctic, it should not be continued because its
implementation is not sustainable for the environment, nor does it improve the lifestyles of the
indigenous Arctic peoples.
One concern that scientists have regarding oil drilling in the Arctic is the perpetuation of climate
change that comes along with it. Expansion of the oil

Minstrel Music In Music
Back in the mid 1800s, theatre s featured minstrel music performances. Minstrel music is known as a
form of plantation songs written by black and white songwriters. Most minstrel shows were performed
by whites who colored their faces black and wore black clothing, pretending as if they were black
people. In later years, the shows were sometimes performed by black people pampered up as the
whites who were acting as blacks. On the surface, minstrelsy seemed to reinforce derogatory racial
stereotypes. Minstrelsy was the most popular form of American entertainment for about 80 years in
the United States. Jokes, such as why did the chicken cross the road, originated for blackface
minstrelsy. Regardless of its blatant racial prejudice, the minstrel show was a combination of lively
music, slapstick comic performance based on deliberately clumsy actions and sophisticated elegance.
It was a very peculiar and complex practice in which blacks and whites alike would interpret and
misconceive each other for years. Early minstrelsy in American history was the beginning of a long
relationship between black American entertainment and the white adoption of it. The first monumental
minstrel show to hit the spotlight was written down and performed by a white man known as Daddy
Rice who said he d first heard it being sung by a black stable hand. Rice named the tune after the man,
Jim Crow. Jump Jim Crow was composed, and performed, by Thomas Daddy Rice in the mid 1800s.

This report aims to critically analyse the methodological, theoretical and philosophical issues
surrounding the study conducted by Ho Keat Leng, Tzu Yin Kuo, Grain Baysa Pee and Josephine Tay
(2012); Make me proud! Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games and its effect on National pride of
young Singaporeans, An assessment to determine whether there is any changes in the level of national
pride in the hosting of the Youth Olympic Games which was held in 2010 in Singapore (hereafter
referred to as the Paper ).
Title
According to Gratton and Jones (2004) the title of the research is an important part of the research
process; because once a focused research question is developed than the rest of the research method is
based on answering that question. The paper clearly sought out to answer the key areas mentioned in
its title. In the results section of the Paper discussed all the aspects in relative detail however more
stress was given to national pride of young Singaporeans as these were discussed further. With sport
and expression being arguably an essential part of this research (Jaksa, 2011; Morgan , 1997), it
should have been discussed further.
Literature Review
According to Morgan (1997) the national identity can be defined by simply as how a country think
about them in reality. The literature review of the Paper gives the reader an idea of the peoples
national identity as the sense of belonging to, and identification with, the nation; it is an incarnation of

Quentin Tarantino s Use Of Pastiche In The Film Pulp Fiction
Pastiche is a technique used in artistic works that is constructed from borrowing various elements
from other texts. The strategy of pastiche is present in the film Pulp Fiction (1994) by Quentin
Tarantino and the artistic photographic series Living in Hell and Other Stories by Tom Hunter.
Through these artworks the audience is able to identify a range of textual works that imitate the style
or character of particular artwork, film or literature. Pastiche derives from the late nineteenth century
word pasticcio . This French and Italian word means a pie filled with a variety of ingredients.
Similarly, a pastiche is a reference from multiple sources. It is an example of eclecticism or
intertextuality in art. The meaning of the text is enhanced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pastiche used in film is generally incorporated to create a nostalgic tone. However this is not the case
with Pulp Fiction as the strategy is used to pay homage and show appreciation towards 1950 s pulp
fiction texts and influential films. Tarantino alludes to various aspects, techniques and scenes from
other Hollywood movies into his own. Tarantino stated, I always hope that if one million people see
my movie, they see one million different movies . Elements from Hollywood movies such as
weapons, costumes, camera angles, themes and famous scenes are injected into Pulp Fiction . His film
blurs the line between cinematic styles and genres. Intertextuality is a significant factor within
Tarantino s work, as by reinventing the old he is able to preserve originality and create a sense of
dimension within his work. Tarantino refers to Pulp Fiction not as a movie but as multiple movies. An
example of pastiche within the film is present in the scene in which Marcellus Wallace coincidentally
recognises Butch in his car while walking across the street. This action mimics the scene from Alfred
Hitchcock s Psycho where Marion s boss recognises her as he crosses at traffic lights. Through this
pastiche Tarantino is able to show his appreciation and influence of Hitchcock s infamous films while
also applying the scene in a postmodern context. Another occurrence of pastiche appears in Butches
weapon of choice; a baseball bat and chainsaw. These weapons of choice pay homage to the films

Essay on Sayo Masudaā€™s Autobiography of a Geisha
Sayo Masuda s Autobiography of a Geisha
Autobiography of a Geisha was originally written for a memoir competition run by the Japanese
magazine Housewife s Companion. Sayo Masuda wrote and submitted her manuscript in hopes of
winning the monetary prize offered. She won second place in the competition and came to the
attention of an editor who helped her expand her story and publish it as a book. Riding on the wave of
interest stirred by Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha, G. G. Rowley translated Sayo Masuda s tale
for the American market.
Rowley did an excellent job of capturing Masuda s voice in his translation. If English had been
Masuda s native language, the result might easily have been Rowley s translation. Masuda s tale ...

Readers will also come away with an understanding of the hot spring geisha s life, but caution should
be taken. It is easy, as many critics have done, to presume that Masuda s tale is the unvarnished truth
about the entire geisha world, rather than merely the unvarnished truth about a part of it. Reviewer
Kimberly Shearer Palmer wrote that Autobiography of a Geisha resolves the ambiguity over whether
or not geisha are prostitutes... [Masuda] leaves little doubt in the reader s mind that even the most
talented geisha are forced to sleep with men for money, a fact glossed over in many accounts of the
profession. (14). Palmer leaves little doubt in the minds of those who read her review that she takes
Masuda s experiences of geisha life as true for all classes of geisha, regarding sources such as Mineko
Iwasaki s Geisha, A Life as tainted. Many other reviewers follow in the same vein, calling reports of
higher class geisha s lives romanticized (Napier) and Hollywood version[s] (Gavin). Perhaps these
attitudes stem from a culture clash which prevents many Americans from understanding the
differences between Japanese prostitutes and geisha, and the gradations within the flower and willow
world. The tendency seems to be to lump all geisha together with the term prostitute, an attitude which
is all too eager to use Masuda s biography to support generalized, culturally skewed assumptions
about geisha.

There are currently sites dedicated to farmers markets, however, these sites are focused more on
informing the community of their locations and products than actual sales. This leaves in opening in
the market to capitalize on people s desire to eat locally and organically. In addition to being for
mainly informational purposes these sites are visually unappealing. Sites like
farmersmarketonline.com have an appearance like that of Craigslist.org and are reminiscent of the
days of the early internet. The market can be captured by offering consumers a site that resembles a
real farmers market visually. SWOT Analysis Strengths
1. Knowledge of marketing and markets is a strength held by the individual involved in the start of
Mike s Market. This strength will help with the formation of the company since one of the price points

play in creating initial buzz about the site to drive traffic and increase awareness.
2. Logistics and transportation support is another critical part of the online farmers market so that
users can concentrate on growing and selling their goods. The starter of the site has over five years in

Personal Reflection Of Anthropology
Starting the first day of school, we talked about the what Anthropology is and how it is distinctive
from other groups. When Professor Fisk talked about how anthropology is not culture bound and by
the end of the semester he would hopefully take off these cultural blinders that all people have. From
that day I knew that Anthropology was going to be a class that I learned a lot of knowledge that I
would take with me forever and apply it to my life.
In chapter 9, we talked about the concept of culture and the ways of thinking and behaviors. We talked
about the 5 characteristics of culture; culture is based on symbols, culture is learned, culture is shared,
culture is integrated, and culture is dynamic. To not have these blinders means when you enter into a
new culture you need to understand the people and why they act/do certain things without judging. I
believe the biggest one is culture is learned. You are not born with culture but instead as you grow up
you understand what is acceptable and not acceptable in your specific culture. I cannot be ethnocentric
and belief that my culture is the best culture and everyone else is less than mine. Instead I need to be
culture relative and give respect to the patterns and way of life. Ever since I was a little girl I want to
go to Africa and help them in a way that I didn t even know at the time. Now that I know what I want

us to offset some of the initial costs of the new vehicles. If some of the older vehicles are still in
working order and there are no major repairs needed, retrofitting the engines to meet the new
standards could also be an alternative. The cost of this is considerably lower than the purchase of a
new vehicle and it is still as effective. In researching the data, I discovered that the use of biodiesel is
an alternative fuel source as well. This fuel, a 20/80 mixture, does not require any type of retrofitting

use of using diesel fuel throughout the engine and fuel system. These particles are expelled via the
exhaust or fuel filter. The only cost that will incur would be the cost to replace the fuel filter during the
initial uses of the product until the entire system is clean. (Biodiesel facts, et. al, 2012) Another issue
that I found in my evaluation was the routing of the trucks. There seems to be a miscommunication in

The Controversial Role Of Hazing In The Present Day
Hazing is a common ritual found in both academic and employment settings. Although hazing was
instituted a few centuries ago, its prominence can still be seen in modern day society. For that reason,

Background of Hazing

Keep in mind that Waldron s (2012) suggestions for reducing hazing may have little influence due to
the countervailing force of peer pressure (Edelman, 2005, p. 328). Therefore, it is highly unlikely that
this contradictory approach will succeed using a short range tactic to replace a long range strategy
(Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42; Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2). Hence, further discussions are
needed to determine which author(s) presented the stronger argument.
Taking all this into account, Waldron (2012) has presented a stronger argument than Josefowitz and
Gadon (1989). The reason for this is due to Waldron (2012) maintaining a neutral position, while
presenting strong scientific evidence on the subject of hazing. Also, the statistics presented by
Waldron (2012) did not have any fallacies when compared to that of Josefowitz and Gadon (1989)
(Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42). Based upon these differences and how society has changed its
cultural stance on hazing, Waldron (2012) has clearly given the better argument and solution for
stopping hazing. Hence, a further discussion is needed on why hazing remains a controversial

Environmental Deforestation
The biosphere of the Earth is threatened by deforestation every year due to human expansion. Which
is the act of clearing a wide area of tress to a non forested area. Usually for either agricultural uses,
paper usage, or wasteland. Over 30% of the Earth is currently covered in forests. Unfortunately, it is
estimated that in 100 years, there will be no forests left. (Rinkesh. 2017)The removal of forests can
lead to imbalances ecologically, and environmentally, and it can result in a decrease of the biosphere
of the planet. As tress produce vital oxygen, and provide homes for wildlife, and over 1.6 billion
people, including medicine, fresh water, and food. Agriculture uses, illegal logging, fires, and fuel
wood harvesting are some of the main causes of deforestation. Mainly resulting in reduced
biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, the disruption of water cycles, soil erosion, and impacts on
species and plants survival. In order to save our planet, and halt the removal of forests, solutions such
as hemp farming, and land re purposing need to be issued, and put in place. The consequences to the
ecosystem and its human and animal residents, due to the threats it faces, could alter our planet, and
way of life. (World Wildlife Fund. 2017)

The Old Testament Of God
Introduction The Old Testament is set from the creation of the universe (roughly 4000 BC,) to the
period of the Persian Empire and Cyrus who allowed the Jews to return from captivity and rebuild
their temple, ending around 400 BC. It tells the story of God s chosen people, the Hebrews, who were
later known as Israelites or Jews. The Old Testament presents their testimony and interaction with God
during this time.
Body
In the beginning of time, God created the heavens and the earth and everything that filled them.
Following the creation was the fall of man with Adam and Eve bringing sin and death upon the earth
and themselves. God made a covering for them indicating that it was only through the blood of a
substitute that they could approach God.
Man continued to sin and God brought severe judgement upon the earth through the flood in which the
whole earth was wiped out except for Noah and his family and through the tower of Babel in which
He divided the people into different nations by changing their languages and causing confusion
amongst them.
God was planning to provide redemption for humankind and chose one family to work through and
provide knowledge of Himself and His salvation through. He chose Abraham (formally Abram) and
his family. God appeared to Abraham and offered him a covenant, telling him that He will bless him
and his family and that they will be a blessing unto others and to the entire nation of Israel who had
become slaves to the Egyptians. The new

Essay On Linear Matrix
Introduction
High performance techniques for sparse linear algebra are important within many application
domains. Sparse matrix vector multiplication (SpMV) as a traditional and most important scientific
computation algorithm on sparse matrices.
Specifically, SpMV is a core computing part of sparse linear systems and other scientific and
engineering applications such as finite element methods, magnetohydrodynamics, electrical power
systems, signal processing, graphic processing, data mining, graph analytics, and so on. The
performance of SpMV can be improved using parallel computing. The implementation and
optimization of SpMV on high performance machines such as GPU are research hotspots. However,

SpMV is the significant importance of the solution of sparse linear systems which involved on many
numerical methods such as finite difference method, finite element method, and other engineering and
scientific problems. The widespread importance of sparse matrix computation has resulted in
significant research efforts poured into implementations based on modern day parallel computer
architectures GPUs. Today, there are many challenges of SpMV products such as load balancing
among threads and the lack of existing effective memory access methods, differences on sparsity
patterns it has which cause no standard algorithm exist for all kinds of sparse matrices. This would
complicate the compute of SpMV.2.2. Direct or Iterative Approaches
According to [4] solving sparse linear systems or more specifically computing
SpMV can be done using direct methods and iterative methods approaches.
Direct algorithms give better results and performance than iterative. The most public direct solver is
Gaussian elimination. Nevertheless, this concept becomes inefficient when used with large linear
systems due to memory limitations they have and they are not effective for large sparse matrices [3]
[4]. This approach also goes back to the alteration of the matrix occur on the direct methods which be
complicated when applied on large matrices. This alteration also may change

Once there was famine for information but today s generation is drowned in the deluge of information.
The ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has been used in all fields of life, including
education. In Indian education, the computer technology has become so significant that the
government has incorporated the ICT in the curriculum. The use of the ICT in English Language
Teaching has of late started to stress the potential and significant progress in language learning. It has
become one of the major issues in the world of education and has been in use from preschool to the
tertiary level which could facilitate students and teachers during the process of teaching and learning.
The ICT has been gaining vitality as it is an enabling tool for educational revival as well. As indicated

Erasing the Gap between Video Game Consoles and Mobile Phones
Imagine yourself to be a time traveler and go back to year 2000 when the world of mobile phones was
dominated by our very own Snake game, in which one used to feed a hungry snake dots, squares or
other objects to grow their length, making sure it stealthily avoid eating its own self. But there existed

Introduction: Etic or Emic? At what extent are McSweeney s critiques valuable?
Arguably, Hofstede s work (1980, 1997) represents a pioneering approach of culture as a way of
comparing international management frameworks. First of all, prior to offering any evaluations in
regards to McSweeney s criticism (2002a/b), it is crucial to identify the nature of Hostede s work
within the entire sphere of the culture approach itself.
In contrast to the guarantors of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As McSweeney s (2002a: 95 99) argues, respondents cultural framework is made up by three non
interacting and durable levels of culture (Tab.2).
At the first level, the assumptions which would free this model from any shortcomings would be that
there is only one IBM culture and that there is also a common worldwide occupational culture for each
job (Hofstede 1980a: 181). What are these assumptions based on?
[Tab.2]
According to McSweeney (2002a: 96), these assumptions are too crude and implausible to underpin
Hofstede s emphatic empirical claims . Following the thread of his argument we come across a
situation where assuming that an IBM employee, whether in a developed USA head office or a new
opened branch office in Pakistan, will possess the same identical organizational and occupational
culture does become hard to encompass. In response to this argument, Hofstede acknowledges that
considerable differences exist at the organizational level (1991: 93), yet it redefines the entire
organizational culture as a mere set of shared perceptions of daily practices (1991: 182 3), therefore
distancing from the early stage value based definition. According to McSweeney (2002b), this is only
a failed attempt to deliver a straightforward concept and definition of organizational culture.

Hofstede s vision of culture is often linked to two different concepts, unique national tendency and
central tendency, respectively. In the

The Crisis Of The Foreclosure Crisis
Shit happens is probably what most of these foreclosed homeowners hear after they were forced to
leave their comfy home. Even though the economy is unpredictable, not a lot of the victims are
satiable by such a vague expression that has caused them to lose their property. It s a harsh comment,
but the economy has turned into something that we have little influence over. One of the worst
feelings is having minimal control over the consequences and outcome. Some people are afraid to
make the same home buying decision again as a result, because what s stopping the economy from
taking another shit on them again? The answer is probably nothing, but what are some actions these
homeowners can take to ease into settling down in a home again? Foreclosure victims can try to
improve their credit score and it could get them that approved private loan in return if needed. Saving
money is also a general option for those that tend to spend a lot on luxury retail goods. Another option
can be utilizing the rent to own option to have that homey feeling as soon as possible. Some people
can also test their patience and attempt to wait it out until the economy exits the lavatory. Each
individual has different lives and each of us has our own fair share of busy and overwhelming
moments. Individuals involved in healthcare like myself would totally respect those differences if it
was a healthcare situation. However, credit scores are a completely different story. People aren t

How Did Germany Build Tension Between 1914-1918
Through 1914 1918, World War I included series of fights and tensions between certain countries of
Europe as they all tried to gain land, power, and wealth. After the rise of Germany s economic and
military power, surrounding countries held hostility which created the alliances of the war. Helping
Germany were Austria Hungary and Italy as they came together to create the Central Powers. On the
opposing side, France, Britain, and Russia joined to form the Triple Entente (Adas et al. 660). In
addition to Germany s rise, strains between countries grew after Archduke Franz Ferdinand was
assassinated on June 28 of 1914 by Serbian Gavrilo Princip. Austria Hungary then declared war on
Serbia, causing Russia and France to later join and fight. WWI

The Dream Of A Dream
Slipping back into her dream, she was no longer in the church. Dream Fianna had just reached the
market in the village square with her sisters and the cart. Scouring the marketplace for the shawl
maker, the girls were approached by a middle aged woman leading a bedraggled nag attached to a cart
stacked with knitted goods. Laboriously, the lady plodded along, dragging her left leg. Dream Fianna
smiled shyly at the woman. This wasn t part of the lesson, Fianna told them. I never met this woman
in the VRC. Dream Fianna turned. You should have. You missed the witch thing. This is part of what
you need to understand. See what exquisite wares fill my cart, she crooned in a grandmotherly voice,

Margaret s told us the maker of these shawls was a young woman named Erin. The old woman shifted
her weight. Her terse smile drew down the corners of her mouth again, creating lines of wrinkles that
edged around her neck and drooped into her blouse. No, lassie, there is only one maker of knotted
shawls such as these. Her gnarled hands, too worn and creased for a person with a middle aged face
and chestnut hair sparsely streaked with silver, smoothed the stack of shawls lovingly. She moved in
front of Fianna, her back to the other girls, blocking Fianna s view of the market square. For a few
seconds, Mistress Tooley s face morphed into that of a scraggy ancient hag with long gray hair. She
looked nothing like a pudgy faced woman. Apologetically Dream Fianna tried to ease the tension.
Maybe there are others who knit the same pattern. It is a sad day when a child takes not the word of an

Women During The Medieval Era Essay
Women withstood a multitude of limitations in the medieval era. Due to the political, social, and
religious restrictions women encountered, historians neglected to realize that they demonstrated
agency. The female experience is something that has been overlooked until recently. Unfortunately,
without the knowledge of how women found ways to exert their power, we are experiencing a deficit
of knowledge in this period. Through the close examination of the primary sources: The Gospel of
Mary, Dhouda s Liber Manualis, and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the creative means of female force
are displayed.
In the Gospel of Mary, circa 120 180 AD, Mary Magdalene displays that women exercised agency by
being a vessel of God and finding favor with the Lord. Beginning in the first paragraph of the work, it
states, Andrew and Peter question her veracity and ask why a woman should become a favorite
disciple (The Gospel of Mary 53). This demonstrates that men did not understand why a woman
would be seen as a greater or more trustworthy being themselves as Christ s inoculator. However,
Mary remains humble, and she uses her agency to teach the men. Mary shows her willingness to
enlighten the men when it is stated, Mary answered, What s concealed from you I ll tell; I saw him in
a vision and I told him (The Gospel of Mary 57). This demonstrates Mary s power over the males. In
this situation, she holds knowledge that only she can give to them. This allows for her to become the
individual in

Public Residential Treatment Facilities For Youth
Policy Brief Abstract Over the last decade, there has been a rapid increase in the number of private
residential treatment facilities for youth in the United States. These private residential treatment
facilities are often referred to as specialty programs and include the following: emotional growth
schools; therapeutic boarding schools; outdoor therapeutic programs; behavior modification schools;
wilderness experience programs; and boot camps. There are no federal regulations regarding the
operation of these programs and few states have regulations in place either. The majority of the
programs are neither accredited nor licensed. A number of reports have surfaced with claims of abuse,
neglect, maltreatment, and even deaths occurring in these unregulated facilities. After a decade of such

Freedom Of Religious Freedom
Freedom of religion When we say freedom of religion what is that exactly means? The First
Amendment describe the right of religion like this, everyone in the United States can practice to any
religion or not practice a religion. (Your Right to Religious Freedom) In the united states, there is no
an official religion and the government do not give any support for any religion institution because of
the government want to encourage and promoting religion in any ways. In addition to that, nobody can
penalize any citizen because of their religious beliefs. It s always best to keep the government out of
religion to protect religion liberty. The three United States founders were different religious
backgrounds. As most of us know the public schools are run by the government and they obey the
First Amendment. When any public education institution teach about the impacts of religion in
literature, history and philosophy they can t indorse religious beliefs or practices as part of the
catalogue. In the United States no one can prayer, theological reading and loudspeaker spiritual breach
in any public area that runs by government because they promote religion and this is protected by the
First Amendment, but when we say this we it s not including individuals. Individual have the right to
practice their religion, pray when and where ever they want to, as long as they don t interrupt other
people or activities for example, by forcing others to pray with them or practice their religion.

Ethical Issues Of Multinational Corporations Essay
ETHICAL ISSUES IN MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS
Introduction
A multinational is defined as an enterprise operating in several countries but managed from its home
country.
Ethics as a philosophy is defined as the discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad, right
and wrong.
Ethical issues arise when one is unsure of what is the right course of action to be taken at a single
time. This problem becomes exponentially complex when applied to a multinational organization.
Globalisation has enabled many companies to venture abroad in an attempt to grow their market
presence while also boosting profitability, acquire cheaper raw materials, and gain access to low cost
of labor.
Generally, any company or group that derives a quarter of its revenue from operations outside of its
home country is considered a multinational corporation.
There are four categories of multinational corporations: a multinational, decentralized corporation
with strong home country presence a global, centralized corporation that acquires cost advantage
through centralized production wherever cheaper resources are available an international company
that builds on the parent corporation s technology or R D a transnational enterprise that combines the
previous three approaches.
Multinational corporations operate across many countries, and each country has its own laws and
cultures and also diverse ethical practices and social norms.
Some of the most notable multinationals include

The Future Health And Survival Of The Great White Shark
Today I will be informing you all about the most feared and fiercest predator in the sea. In this speech
I will be discussing the evolution, physiology, ecological niche and propose a postulate for the future
health and survival of the Great White Shark. The Great White is scientifically known as the
Carcharodon carcharias and is considered a carnivorous killing machine. This fish has been around for
hundreds of millions of years and its evolution has enabled it to develop extraordinary abilities to find
and catch prey as well as reproducing to prosper as a species. However, its success is only guaranteed
in an environment with no predators. Man has impacted dangerously upon sharks due to the
significant slaughter of their numbers. Sharks are not able to respond to this threat. As large and
powerful predators, great white sharks play a key role in the ecosystem and was granted a protected
status in South Africa, California and Australia. Great white sharks live in all coastal temperate waters
around the world and have been found in waters as deep as 300 meters. It had been thought that the
Great White Shark have descended from the 50 foot Megalodon also known as the Megatooth Shark
due to similarities in tooth structure and saw like edges on their teeth.
Did you know that sharks have been around for about 450 million years and even predate the
dinosaurs? For over a hundred and fifty years there has been constant debate about where exactly the

I Too And Caged Bird Comparison
I, Too and Caged Bird , two amazing poems by two amazing authors, both share a theme of hope for
freedom. In Caged Bird by Maya Angelou, she writes about two birds. One being able to fly freely and
another stuck in a cage unable to do what it wants. Even with his wings clipped and feet tied, the
caged bird still sings of freedom. I, Too by Langston Hughes is very similar. In this poem a boy, the
darker brother, is always sent to the kitchen to eat when company arrives. Even though he is
constantly being hidden, the boy knows that by doing so he will grow strong, become beautiful and
they will be ashamed for sending him away. Obviously, the free bird is blessed with freedom but the
caged bird and the boy both can only sing of it. Imagery

Many argue that this astonishing achievement is due to Hong Kong s laissez faire approach to
economic policies with low taxes, low customs duties, free trade, free capital movements and a fairly
liberal immigration policy. Many wondered how Hong Kong could ever be able to be ruled by China

Hong Kong has been considered the door to China , meaning that many goods and services targeted to
the mainland Chinese market was traded via Hong Kong

Would the closer ties to the Chinese communist party have a bad influence on Hong Kong s laissez

These events eventually inspired a young writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to write a book about the

The Modern Age Of Islam
The Islamic world has tried to become strong again through both secularism and religion, with neither
answer showing a complete, absolute advantage over the other. This is shown through Atta Turk
completely removing Islam out of the newly formed Turkish society, the Baath Party s secular
ideology while still committing massacre, and Hezbollah using a radicalized form of religion to gain
political strength.
The beginning of the modern age of Islam can be marked with Napoleon s conquest of Egypt and the
subsequent conquest by Britain. This defeat indicated to the leaders of the Islamic world that not only
were they defeated by a Western power, but also by an inferior Western power. Thus, leaders of the
Islamic world, such as Muhammad Ali and al Afghani said that to create a successful society, we must
emulate the West to become strong. This ideology held largely throughout the Islamic world until the
creation of Israel. When Israel fought and destroyed Arab nations in the Six Days War, secular
governments were no longer as widely accepted, leading to the creation of Islamic states and the
further progression of Islamic Fundamentalism. Islamic Fundamentalism uses radicalized Islam,
which can usually be traced directly back to Wahhabism, to try and gain power and political influence
over the region through terror. This clearly corrupted thought clashes with the secular, although also in
many cases corrupted, powers of the world. These opposing viewpoints show that there is no

ultimate salvation. Furthermore Ralph s wisdom displays the island causes him to mature Golding

Unlike most the other boys Simon retains civil. Simon displays his maturity through the sacrifices he
makes Golding writes, Someone s got to go across the island and tell Piggy we ll be back after dark.
Bill spoke, unbelieving. Through the forest by himself? Now? We can t spare more than one. Simon

Of all the aspects of MTI, innovation strategy is the most challenging. Firms can be very good at the
various activities involved in MTI, such as R amp; D or operations, but this count for little unless it is
supported by a well grounded innovation strategy that guides ļ¬rms choices, prioritizations, and
sequences. There is little value in being highly eļ¬ƒcient at developing or delivering new products and
services if they are the wrong products and services for the ļ¬rm and its markets. Well chosen new
products and services deliver value, build the technological base of the ļ¬rm, develop its capabilities,
improve its processes, and add to its reputation and brands. An innovation strategy helps ļ¬rms decide,

A ļ¬rm that identiļ¬es innovation as a strategic activity is more likely to attract creative workers in

A shareholder theory of firm and a stakeholder theory of firm may differ in their respective evaluation
method of firm performance. Both theories however recognize the importance of value creation as the
economic role of firms as institutions. The New Institutional Economics (NIE) emphasizes incentives
alignment, while also viewing stakeholder engagements as methods to expand the boundaries of firms.
The difference in performance evaluation between the two approaches can be reduced if stakeholders,
while formulating incentive alignment, also evaluate the mechanisms of establishing a common
currency value. The concomitant development of stakeholder engagement, incentive alignment, and
value currency creation is argued to be an evolutionary process with the efficiency implications of the
two theories tending to converge.
Business sustainability, which originally was viewed as a question of corporate governance, has now
emerged as a central, multifaceted theme of the twenty first century. It is now the responsibility of
corporate boards and managers to focus on business sustainability by creating enduring value for
shareholders and managing the interests of other stakeholders, including creditors, employers,
suppliers, government, and society at large.

Grapes Of Wrath Chapter 12
When examining John Steinbeck s, Grapes of Wrath he details the story of the Joads an Oklahoma
family on their way to California in the midsts of the Dust Bowl. As he discusses their journey
towards the american dream he inserts several intercalary chapters that break up the discussion of the
Joads and shifts the focus towards the things that symbolizes them. In the novel there are several
intercalary chapters that are used to depict the lies and deceit that occurs to the Joads right under their
nose.
One intercalary chapter that relates to the message of the whole book is a quote from chapter 12. The
quote states, That rattle that s tappets. Don t hurt a bit. Tappets can rattle till Jesus comes again
without no harm. But that thudding as the car moves along can t hear that just kind of feel it. Maybe
oil isn t gettin someplace. Maybe a bearing s startin to go. Chapter 12 is written from the perspective
of Steinbeck. The Joads are on the road to California and the narrator begins talking about California
gas stations. Steinbeck says that there are used car salesman who try and get the farmers to buy parts
from them and insist to the farmers that they need will need the parts and how their cars are the best in
town. In this particular scene a family is listening to the sound of the engine in the car. The author uses
a euphemism in this passage when he is speaking as the used car salesman in order to make the
travelers believe that the car is better than it is

The progressive era in the United States is associated...
The progressive era in the United States is associated with political reforms and social change. During
the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States power was experienced across the globe. Business
firms experienced immense growth making some owners excessively rich. On the other hand, the
American people experienced unhappiness owing to some problems at home. Workers in the huge
corporations did not experience considerable changes in their lives. Employees were subjected to
severe working conditions, which were exposed by muckrakers among other people. Railroad charges
for shipping crops were very high, which gave farmers immense problems. Increased immigration
rates also caused numerous concerns with the need to reform the foreign ... Show more content on

Sinclair exposed the presence of insects and rats in meat packing plants, which could have a
significant effect on people s health. Some individuals in the federal government knew of the
conditions in such plants but made no interventions. However, the publishing of the book The Jungle
caused pressures from authorities, including President Roosevelt, which led to the enactment of the
Meat Inspection Act. Other writers, such as Ida Tarbell, exposed unethical business competition
techniques, such as that of the Standard Oil Company, which pushed competitors from the market.
The unhealthy living conditions in the overcrowded slums were also exposed by writers. The New
York s Wall Street was also targeted by some writers as few individuals controlled the flow of money
in the entire nation. These writers were referred to as muckrakers. President Roosevelt compared them
to people raking up the muck without doing any good (Cocks, Holloran, Lessoff, 2009). However, the
muckrakers are recognized for exposing the ills that threatened to damage the United States society.
The works of such writers also stimulated policymakers to seek alternative ways of doing things.
Muckrakers played a significant role in exposing scandals, corruption, and wastes, which could not
have detected by the general population.
Child labor was also an issue that attracted immense interests during the

  • 2. Summary Of Edward Morgan Forster sThe Machine Stops As our society continues to develop, the advanced technology has changed people s lives in many respects. When people enjoy the convenience of using touchpad during class, contacting a person who lives a thousand miles away via FaceTime, and storing live data in the online cloud, there will be a long term and serious consequences resulting from overuse of technology. About a century ago, Edward Morgan Forster, in his short novel The Machine Stops, has already accurately predicted human s future through presenting an image of how human s exponentially increasing dependence on technology makes them weak, and ultimately decease. The story happens in the future where human beings who has lost their ability to live on the surface of earth live in a subterranean cell, with all physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs met by the Machine. With the Machine, people believe they live in a perfect world. All of the people believe they live in a perfect world, except Kuno, who finds the flaw that can destroy the society. Kuno s concern is treated as madness by his mother Vashti. Forster s theme concerns envisioning the earth in the future when the use of technology is at its climax and every sphere of life is dependent on it. He exploits his idea by illustrating that the development of the sophisticated technology will ultimately control human beings and annihilate their ability to think critically and live independently, making them treat the Machine like a god. Coevolution With Particular Reference to Herbivory Essay COEVOLUTION WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO HERBIVORY Of all the extant organisms in the world, it is believed that terrestrial plants and their natural enemies constitute more than forty percent. Moreover, plants exhibit a remarkable diversity of supposedly defensive characteristics including trichomes, spines, silica, secondary chemical compounds, temporal avoidance of enemies, and structures along with chemicals that attract predators of their natural enemies. In addition, the exploitation of the plants and their defences is facilitated by a vast number of behavioural, morphological and physiological adaptations by herbivores Accounting for this diversity has been a major area of research for nearly a century. The seminal article, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What happened in the past might be a different picture to what we have envisaged so far. Thompson (1999) has proposed that there are crucial components to coevolution. These need to be recognised before we can fully understand coevolution. Firstly, phylogenetic studies are providing five kinds of data important in interpreting the historical context of coevolving interactions. 1) Shared traits. Phylogenetic studies are allowing us to evaluate which traits of interacting species were already present in the hosts ancestors. This allows us to determine whether traits are coevolved or merely a trait exhibited as a consequence of the organisms genotype. For example, Yucca plants provide a source of food for host specific Yucca moths, with which they are believed to have coevolved. Examining the phylogenetic trees of these moths elucidated this. Most moths in this family (Prodoxidae) exhibited host specificity (Davis et al 1992). Before this technology, people would have assumed the specificity of the Yucca moth to be a product of the coevolution. This brings up a useful comment by Vermeij (1994). Almost all inferences about coevolution are derived from the existence of trends in the expression of traits that function during interactions between species. Evolutionary trends have often been found by analysing ancestor dependant relationships within monophyletic groups, or clades. Although many trends are best sought this way, others cannot in principle be detected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The goal is to work towards a world where expectations are not set by the stereotypes that hold us back, but by our personal passion, talents, and interests. Media is easily accessible to many and is where millions look for role models. Through the media, high standards are set for women, men, and children all more than likely unattainable. Body types are knit picked along the side of what people wear. TV programs will speak about their political views, opinions, and beliefs and at this age, it s hard to understand what all of it truly means. Most of the time we will just go with what everyone else believes, it s easier and they won t cause any conflict. All of this is forced upon us without asking for it, eventually affecting the outlook on certain things and permanently altering emotions towards serious matters. This is something that I would not wish upon anyone, but it is actually happening to everyone. The media is full of perception altering advertisements and television programs that cause the subconscious to forever be revised to the opinions and beliefs presented. The most commonly discussed problem with media advertisements is the stereotypes that are fed, especially gender stereotypes. Stereotyping is described as a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Print advertisements, television programs/commercials, ... It also helps promote the use of a learning curriculum design called the Universal Design of Learning also known as (UDL). One other thing about the website it looks like it was designed to be of easy use, and easy access of the materials that are on the site. A reason that the website is promoting Universal Design of Learning is so that teachers can reach all of their students learning types, while only having to teach a subject one time rather than multiple times. Some other reasons why this program is important for teachers to know about is that according to the cast website CAST researches and develops innovative solutions to make education more inclusive and effective (cast.org, 2015). An important thing to know is it allows teachers more ways of differentiating in their classrooms, so that they can make sure to get all of their students learning needs met when they are teaching their classes. It is important to know because according to the website it is researchers are working to: Develop promising approaches for increasing the accessibility and potential effectiveness of online learning for students with disabilities. The Cicones In The Odyssey Cicones were a Homeric Thracian tribe, whose stronghold in the time of the Odyssey was the town of Ismara, located at the foot of mount Ismara on the south coast of Thrace, in modern Greece. After they raided the Cicones they made there way over to the Land of the Lotus Eaters. The Lotus is a plant which affects your brain when consumed to make you want to stay on the island and eat it for the rest of your life. Some of Odysseus s men were taken over by the lotus plant, but overcame it when the other crew members made them stop. One of the biggest problems Odysseus s crew had to overcome was being turned into swine by Circe. Circe drugged a number of Odysseus s men, which turned them into swine. When Odysseus goes to rescue them, Hermes confronts him in the form of a young man. He tells Odysseus to eat a herb called moly to protect himself from Circe s drug. • 7. Edgar Allan Poe s Theme Of Poetry Edgar Allan Poe was and still is known as one of the best poets/short story writer. He was also the first well known writer to make a living off of his profession. All in all he was one of the best of his time and still is considered the best. His poems and short stories were dark and gritty; he wasn t really known for his feel good poems but ones that explored darkness. Some of his best poems were The Valley of Unrest , The Raven , and Annabel Lee . These poems had themes of love, death, and the supernatural. One of Poe s most sad poem was the The Valley of Unrest . This poem talks about a village in which war has already broken out and is now empty because of it. Now each visitor shall confess/ The sad valley s restlessness. (Poe 9 10). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Annabel Lee Poe writes about a man who loves a woman... shocker. But this is a different type of love poem. Annabel Lee was a woman that the man knew as a teenager. He loved her a lot and she loved him a lot. Even though people were telling them that they had no idea what love was because they were so young, they knew they were in love. Sadly she dies from what only can be interpreted as a type of disease. He blames it on the angles and says that even the angles could not keep their love separated. He then goes and lies next to her grave every night remembering her. There isn t really a set rhyme scheme but he keeps coming back words that rhyme with lee. It is most likely free verse since there isn t no set rhyme scheme. He also might be rhyming with lee to emphasize his love for her. There is a lot of symbolism going on here but the most important one are the angles. You would always think that angles are good and right, but Poe paints them as bad dudes. The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,/ Went envying her and me /Yes! that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) / That the wind came out of the cloud by night, / Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. (Poe). Another symbole is Annabel Lee herself. She represents love and passion. She seems like the perfect women that the man has painted. Of the beautiful Annabel Lee (Poe). Some themes that were prevalent throughout the poem was love, hate, and darkness. She loved Annabel so much and no one could tell him otherwise. But our love it was stronger by far than the love (Poe). There love was so strong the death couldn t even stop them and he lies with her at night next to her grave. A very prevalent theme throughout the poem was hatred. He hated the angles and god for taking his beloved away from him. Finally like in most of his poems there was supernatural. He brings in heaven and hell, angels and demons which are all supernatural events. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With this move, Hong Kong was declared a Special Administrative Region, in the end that they would be fully autonomous, save for the Defense and Foreign Affairs dockets. To this extent, the law was silent on when and how this would be realized, and has been the epicenter for Hong Kong s cry for independence, and the various protests from civil rights groups and students bodies. Fluoridation in larger communities containing 1,000 to 3,000 people showed that dental cost savings exceeded fluoridation costs , and the annual saving per person ranged between $15.95 and $18.62. Communities with a population size of about 800 900 showed that the cost of fluoridation was equal to the dental cost savings while smaller communities did not save on costs unless there was a reduction in tooth decay. Other sources of fluoride include mouthwash, toothpaste and fluoride tablets. Fluoride tablets are less beneficial than fluoridated water in the fact that across a long period of time, they are less cost effective, have to be taken everyday but only last for three hours and provide less fluoride than fluoridated water. • 11. The Negative Effects Of Oil Drilling As polar ice in the Arctic region melts, there are many implications associated with it. The melting ice opens up sea lanes, providing access to priceless natural resources, such as the estimated 90 billion barrels of the world s undiscovered oil (Karaim 336). For the United States, this is a great opportunity. Access to these energy reserves would open up expansion of the oil industry, which advocates of oil drilling say will lead to extensive economic development (Karaim 335) in northern Alaska and the rest of the Arctic region. However, scientists caution that an increase in oil drilling will have destructive effects on the environment. Increased greenhouse gas pollution from oil drilling facilitate global warming, which will melt even more polar ice, absorbing more sunlight and harming vivid Arctic ecosystems. The higher risk for oil spills will harm marine wildlife, which translates to harming the indigenous Arctic peoples. Their diets will be altered, new diseases will be introduced, and the changing of the Arctic land will restrict their rich cultural traditions and lifestyles. Although oil drilling will facilitate economic development in the Arctic, it should not be continued because its implementation is not sustainable for the environment, nor does it improve the lifestyles of the indigenous Arctic peoples. One concern that scientists have regarding oil drilling in the Arctic is the perpetuation of climate change that comes along with it. Expansion of the oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Minstrel Music In Music Back in the mid 1800s, theatre s featured minstrel music performances. Minstrel music is known as a form of plantation songs written by black and white songwriters. Most minstrel shows were performed by whites who colored their faces black and wore black clothing, pretending as if they were black people. In later years, the shows were sometimes performed by black people pampered up as the whites who were acting as blacks. On the surface, minstrelsy seemed to reinforce derogatory racial stereotypes. Minstrelsy was the most popular form of American entertainment for about 80 years in the United States. Jokes, such as why did the chicken cross the road, originated for blackface minstrelsy. Regardless of its blatant racial prejudice, the minstrel show was a combination of lively music, slapstick comic performance based on deliberately clumsy actions and sophisticated elegance. It was a very peculiar and complex practice in which blacks and whites alike would interpret and misconceive each other for years. Early minstrelsy in American history was the beginning of a long relationship between black American entertainment and the white adoption of it. The first monumental minstrel show to hit the spotlight was written down and performed by a white man known as Daddy Rice who said he d first heard it being sung by a black stable hand. The strategy of pastiche is present in the film Pulp Fiction (1994) by Quentin Tarantino and the artistic photographic series Living in Hell and Other Stories by Tom Hunter. Through these artworks the audience is able to identify a range of textual works that imitate the style or character of particular artwork, film or literature. Pastiche derives from the late nineteenth century word pasticcio . This French and Italian word means a pie filled with a variety of ingredients. Tarantino stated, I always hope that if one million people see my movie, they see one million different movies . Elements from Hollywood movies such as weapons, costumes, camera angles, themes and famous scenes are injected into Pulp Fiction . His film blurs the line between cinematic styles and genres. Intertextuality is a significant factor within Tarantino s work, as by reinventing the old he is able to preserve originality and create a sense of dimension within his work. Tarantino refers to Pulp Fiction not as a movie but as multiple movies. An example of pastiche within the film is present in the scene in which Marcellus Wallace coincidentally recognises Butch in his car while walking across the street. This action mimics the scene from Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho where Marion s boss recognises her as he crosses at traffic lights. Through this pastiche Tarantino is able to show his appreciation and influence of Hitchcock s infamous films while also applying the scene in a postmodern context. Essay on Sayo Masudaā€™s Autobiography of a Geisha Sayo Masuda s Autobiography of a Geisha Autobiography of a Geisha was originally written for a memoir competition run by the Japanese magazine Housewife s Companion. Sayo Masuda wrote and submitted her manuscript in hopes of winning the monetary prize offered. She won second place in the competition and came to the attention of an editor who helped her expand her story and publish it as a book. Riding on the wave of interest stirred by Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha, G. G. Rowley translated Sayo Masuda s tale for the American market. It is easy, as many critics have done, to presume that Masuda s tale is the unvarnished truth about the entire geisha world, rather than merely the unvarnished truth about a part of it. Reviewer Kimberly Shearer Palmer wrote that Autobiography of a Geisha resolves the ambiguity over whether or not geisha are prostitutes... [Masuda] leaves little doubt in the reader s mind that even the most talented geisha are forced to sleep with men for money, a fact glossed over in many accounts of the profession. (14). Palmer leaves little doubt in the minds of those who read her review that she takes Masuda s experiences of geisha life as true for all classes of geisha, regarding sources such as Mineko Iwasaki s Geisha, A Life as tainted. Many other reviewers follow in the same vein, calling reports of higher class geisha s lives romanticized (Napier) and Hollywood version[s] (Gavin). Perhaps these attitudes stem from a culture clash which prevents many Americans from understanding the differences between Japanese prostitutes and geisha, and the gradations within the flower and willow world. The tendency seems to be to lump all geisha together with the term prostitute, an attitude which is all too eager to use Masuda s biography to support generalized, culturally skewed assumptions about geisha. When Professor Fisk talked about how anthropology is not culture bound and by the end of the semester he would hopefully take off these cultural blinders that all people have. From that day I knew that Anthropology was going to be a class that I learned a lot of knowledge that I would take with me forever and apply it to my life. In chapter 9, we talked about the concept of culture and the ways of thinking and behaviors. We talked about the 5 characteristics of culture; culture is based on symbols, culture is learned, culture is shared, culture is integrated, and culture is dynamic. To not have these blinders means when you enter into a new culture you need to understand the people and why they act/do certain things without judging. I believe the biggest one is culture is learned. You are not born with culture but instead as you grow up you understand what is acceptable and not acceptable in your specific culture. I cannot be ethnocentric and belief that my culture is the best culture and everyone else is less than mine. Instead I need to be culture relative and give respect to the patterns and way of life. For that reason, this paper will examine three areas that includes the background of hazing, the viewpoint comparison on hazing through two peer reviewed articles, and why hazing is still controversial in the present day. Background of Hazing According to Parks, Jones, Ray, Hughey, and Cox (2015), hazing as part of a rite of passage process dates back to the beginning of mankind with the first documented instances of organized hazing coming from ancient Greece, where prospective soldiers demonstrated their loyalty through painful and uncomfortable experiences ... The captain can remind teammates of the hazing prevention workshop and suggest a progressive team dinner where each senior member of the team provides a food course. (Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2; p. 17) Keep in mind that Waldron s (2012) suggestions for reducing hazing may have little influence due to the countervailing force of peer pressure (Edelman, 2005, p. 328). Therefore, it is highly unlikely that this contradictory approach will succeed using a short range tactic to replace a long range strategy (Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42; Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2). Hence, further discussions are needed to determine which author(s) presented the stronger argument. Taking all this into account, Waldron (2012) has presented a stronger argument than Josefowitz and Gadon (1989). The reason for this is due to Waldron (2012) maintaining a neutral position, while presenting strong scientific evidence on the subject of hazing. Also, the statistics presented by Waldron (2012) did not have any fallacies when compared to that of Josefowitz and Gadon (1989) (Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42). Based upon these differences and how society has changed its cultural stance on hazing, Waldron (2012) has clearly given the better argument and solution for stopping hazing. Hence, a further discussion is needed on why hazing remains a controversial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which is the act of clearing a wide area of tress to a non forested area. Usually for either agricultural uses, paper usage, or wasteland. Over 30% of the Earth is currently covered in forests. Unfortunately, it is estimated that in 100 years, there will be no forests left. (Rinkesh. 2017)The removal of forests can lead to imbalances ecologically, and environmentally, and it can result in a decrease of the biosphere of the planet. As tress produce vital oxygen, and provide homes for wildlife, and over 1.6 billion people, including medicine, fresh water, and food. Agriculture uses, illegal logging, fires, and fuel wood harvesting are some of the main causes of deforestation. • 23. The Old Testament Of God Introduction The Old Testament is set from the creation of the universe (roughly 4000 BC,) to the period of the Persian Empire and Cyrus who allowed the Jews to return from captivity and rebuild their temple, ending around 400 BC. It tells the story of God s chosen people, the Hebrews, who were later known as Israelites or Jews. The Old Testament presents their testimony and interaction with God during this time. Body In the beginning of time, God created the heavens and the earth and everything that filled them. Following the creation was the fall of man with Adam and Eve bringing sin and death upon the earth and themselves. God made a covering for them indicating that it was only through the blood of a substitute that they could approach God. Man continued to sin and God brought severe judgement upon the earth through the flood in which the whole earth was wiped out except for Noah and his family and through the tower of Babel in which He divided the people into different nations by changing their languages and causing confusion amongst them. God was planning to provide redemption for humankind and chose one family to work through and provide knowledge of Himself and His salvation through. He chose Abraham (formally Abram) and his family. God appeared to Abraham and offered him a covenant, telling him that He will bless him and his family and that they will be a blessing unto others and to the entire nation of Israel who had become slaves to the Egyptians. • 33. Women During The Medieval Era Essay Women withstood a multitude of limitations in the medieval era. Due to the political, social, and religious restrictions women encountered, historians neglected to realize that they demonstrated agency. The female experience is something that has been overlooked until recently. Unfortunately, without the knowledge of how women found ways to exert their power, we are experiencing a deficit of knowledge in this period. Through the close examination of the primary sources: The Gospel of Mary, Dhouda s Liber Manualis, and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the creative means of female force are displayed. In the Gospel of Mary, circa 120 180 AD, Mary Magdalene displays that women exercised agency by being a vessel of God and finding favor with the Lord. Beginning in the first paragraph of the work, it states, Andrew and Peter question her veracity and ask why a woman should become a favorite disciple (The Gospel of Mary 53). This demonstrates that men did not understand why a woman would be seen as a greater or more trustworthy being themselves as Christ s inoculator. However, Mary remains humble, and she uses her agency to teach the men. Mary shows her willingness to enlighten the men when it is stated, Mary answered, What s concealed from you I ll tell; I saw him in a vision and I told him (The Gospel of Mary 57). This demonstrates Mary s power over the males. In this situation, she holds knowledge that only she can give to them. This allows for her to become the individual in ... Ethical Issues Of Multinational Corporations Essay ETHICAL ISSUES IN MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS Introduction A multinational is defined as an enterprise operating in several countries but managed from its home country. Ethics as a philosophy is defined as the discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad, right and wrong. Ethical issues arise when one is unsure of what is the right course of action to be taken at a single time. This problem becomes exponentially complex when applied to a multinational organization. Globalisation has enabled many companies to venture abroad in an attempt to grow their market presence while also boosting profitability, acquire cheaper raw materials, and gain access to low cost of labor. Generally, any company or group that derives a quarter of its revenue from operations outside of its home country is considered a multinational corporation. There are four categories of multinational corporations: a multinational, decentralized corporation with strong home country presence a global, centralized corporation that acquires cost advantage through centralized production wherever cheaper resources are available an international company that builds on the parent corporation s technology or R D a transnational enterprise that combines the previous three approaches. This is shown through Atta Turk completely removing Islam out of the newly formed Turkish society, the Baath Party s secular ideology while still committing massacre, and Hezbollah using a radicalized form of religion to gain political strength. The beginning of the modern age of Islam can be marked with Napoleon s conquest of Egypt and the subsequent conquest by Britain. This defeat indicated to the leaders of the Islamic world that not only were they defeated by a Western power, but also by an inferior Western power. Thus, leaders of the Islamic world, such as Muhammad Ali and al Afghani said that to create a successful society, we must emulate the West to become strong. • 44. Mgt 497 Week One Week One Of all the aspects of MTI, innovation strategy is the most challenging. Firms can be very good at the various activities involved in MTI, such as R amp; D or operations, but this count for little unless it is supported by a well grounded innovation strategy that guides ļ¬rms choices, prioritizations, and sequences. There is little value in being highly eļ¬ƒcient at developing or delivering new products and services if they are the wrong products and services for the ļ¬rm and its markets. Well chosen new products and services deliver value, build the technological base of the ļ¬rm, develop its capabilities, improve its processes, and add to its reputation and brands. Both theories however recognize the importance of value creation as the economic role of firms as institutions. The New Institutional Economics (NIE) emphasizes incentives alignment, while also viewing stakeholder engagements as methods to expand the boundaries of firms. The concomitant development of stakeholder engagement, incentive alignment, and value currency creation is argued to be an evolutionary process with the efficiency implications of the two theories tending to converge.
