Ivan the Terrible Essay
Ivan IV was a complicated man, with a complicated past, in a complicated country, in a complicated
time; his story is not an easy one. Ivan the terrible, the man, could never be completely understood in
a few words, nor in a few pages, and only perhaps in a few volumes. A man of incredible range his
dreadfulness could only be matched by his magnificence, his love by his hatred.
Ivan life began in the same fashion it would continue: in a tempest. His father murdered when he was
three years old, his suspected murderer Ivan s uncle. Following this disaster Ivan succeeded to the
throne. His mother, Jelena Glinsky, crowned herself regent and protector , an ambitious choice that
would prove deadly to her self, and detrimental to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But on the other side Ivan was, a avowed scholar; such a devoted Christian that he gained callouses on
his forehead from penance and prayer.
In 1547 Ivan was crowned Tsar of all Tsars. It was also time for Ivan to take a wife. He held what was
little more than a beauty contest amongst the noble women. Ivan was charmed by the beautiful
Anastasia Romanovna, and married her soon after. It was against all odds a love match; there would
be 13 years of happy marriage, although only two children would survive to adulthood.
During these happy years of marriage Anastasia acted as quieting force in Ivan s life. It was in these
years that Ivan would consolidate Russia, he ruled advisory counselor, and dispel corruption and
excesses from his courtiers. It is a misconception that Ivan is known as the terrible, a glitch in
translation. Ivan was known as Grozny , the awesome, and it was in these years that he earned the
title.
In 1153 Ivan suddenly became ill, he demanded allegiance to his oldest son Dmitri. The boyars
balked. Ivan recovered but his mistrust of the nobility grew. Dmitri was dropped into a river and
drowned, Anastasia died in 1560. These two events snapped Ivan s mind out of the harmony it for
thirteen had enjoyed. It also marked the beginning of the second half of Ivan s reign, split like so much
else about Ivan s person.
Ivan peace gone, he threatened to abdicate the

Online Higher Education s Individualist Fallacy Essay
Have you ever wondered what the best college learning method for a working adult is online or
campus? If working adults took online courses they can do their work anywhere there is an internet
connection however they have to ask themselves; would I get the same or better education I could if I
was sitting in a classroom? In a classroom setting they would get the interaction with fellow
classmates and the professor who all come from different places in their lives. If the working adult had
a question or did not understand they would get the results right away, on the other hand, if the student
is learning online they have to wait for their professor. The response time for their email to be read and
returned will not be there when it s fresh in the student s mind. If one is planning on going to college
as a working adult, he or she should consider the value of taking the time and attend classes on
campus. In the article titled Online Higher Education s Individualist Fallacy written by Johann N.
Neem was about the Individualist Fallacy which is ecological studies and instrumental variables.
Some boosters think the traditional campus is going to be displaced (102). Richard Vedder believes
that campus is only good for making friends, partying, drinking, and having sex (103). While others
like Jaron Lanier; a computer scientist, said that computers exist to support human endeavors (104).
Bill Gates thinks that in five years the best lectures in the world

How Does Citizen Kane Use Cinematography
Extract analysis of cinematography within Citizen Kane [12:30 22:30]
This essay is an analysis of a key sequence in Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941) that uses
cinematography to create mystery, intrigue, and disorder. The scenes introduce us to many main
characters and help establish the film.
The initial scene is set in a projector room where Rawlston is telling his employees, mainly Mr.
Thompson to find out more about rosebud. A long shot is used to establish the surroundings, however;
the lighting blocks off a lot of what can be seen. It is argued that their visual mysteriousness reflects
the dramatic mystery that is Kane. (Brophy, P 2008). The lighting choices do limit any clear
understanding of how many people are there and who they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The camera goes into the house and it pulls back into a deep focus, this establishes the surrounding. It
also allows ...the spectator to work out the relationships between the characters and extract the poetic
and emotional implications of the scene (Mulvey, L. 20) it gives an external look at what is going on,
especially in a scene so important. Deep focus also keeps Kane in the back of everybody s mind as his
parents are deciding to sign him over to Thatcher. However, the deep focus could also be used in the
scene as a way to keep Kane more mysterious the flashbacks to his past... are frustrating our desire to
decipher Kane and thus identify with him. We are enabled to inhabit this character s space, but not
him. (Cardullo R., J .73). In the background, Charles is shouting Union forever ironically as his
parents are breaking their familial union. The placement of the characters has sidelined Mr. Kane to
insinuate that Mrs. Kane is the one in charge as she is the closest and in the foreground. Throughout
the scene, Mrs. Kane is distant and has no eye line match or emotion in her voice. This is done to
show how emotionally distraught she is and how she is trying to keep herself together. Arguably Mrs.
Kane s grammatically correct speech and her dark dress are iconographically closer to Thatcher than
to her husband. (Mulvey, L. 54) which creates a break in the familial bond. A tracking shot brings

Share of Power According to Dr. Allen Holmberg that the share of power requires democratic
discussion. The workers used to take orders from overseer that they kept silent during the work. To fix
this problem that Cornell turned the mondo into a seminar, which encourage workers to speak out for
their heart and open discussion. The democratic discussion is one characteristic of the concept men are
equal . By use the seminar to let workers to speak their mind is an approach to implement the concept
of men are equal . Agricultural Revolution Dr. Allen Holmberg and his group gave the farmers in
Vicos better seeds, fertilizer, and insecticides under cheap cost. At beginning, the Indians were afraid

Arranged Marriages Compare And Contrast Nnaemeka And Okeke
In both arranged marriages and love marriages there are some good things but as well as a few bad
things. During the 20th century, arranged marriages were very common among families. In non
western countries many of the cultures say that love is not a requirement for marriage (Epstein). First
comes marriage, then comes love. That is the normal in their cultures. Arranged marriages are usually
put together by the parents or close family of the son or daughter. Since it is put together by the
parents, then the parents gain more trust in their child due to their decision (Shanmukh). In arranged
marriages, the love grows overtime unlike studies shown for love marriages. Arranged marriage

In this tribe you are to have arranged marriages that are arranged by the parents. Nnaemeka, Okeke s
son had found a girl himself and wanted to be with her. He loves Nene. Nene is a school teacher and a
good christian. When Okeke heard about this he was ashamed and disappointed in his son. His father s
silence was infinitely more menacing than a flood of threatening speech (Achebe 191). This kind of
behavior was against their tribe s belief and Okeke referred to it as Satan s work. Love marriages just
did not work for them. The story eventually got to the little village in the heart of the Ibo country that
Nnaemeka and his young wife were a most happy couple (Achebe 193). The son who went against his
tribe s beliefs and fell in love before marriage without it being arranged, was happy with his wife.
Nnaemeka learned that you could still be happily married without it being arranged. Okeke did not
talk to his son for eight years because of his decision. Later in the story, Okeke learned he has two
grandsons and felt remorse for not being able to see them grow up. In the end, Nnaemeka turned out

Persuasive Essay About Cancer
Cancer, one of the most well known diseases of today s world, has never ceased to interest me. To this
day, modern technology has brought an amazing amount of cures and vaccines to fight off a multitude
of diseases! Yet for some reason, no one has found a veritable solution to cancer, despite countless
years of intensive research. As this happens, many around the globe diagnosed with cancer struggle
every second of their lives to conquer it. One such person was my grandma, who was diagnosed with
a terminal cancer (leukemia) around five years ago. We were close and intimate with each other, so
this was mentally distressing for me. At that time, she did not have much money and thus could not
afford her cancer treatments. No one was able to contribute because the treatments were extortionate
at that time. Unfortunately, she was not able to win her battle. Another person I knew who was
affected by cancer was a boy who went to my school: Ryan Kerr. He always had a glowing personality
and displayed nothing but pure generosity. He bravely fought against his cancer Osteosarcoma and
refused to stop until he could not continue further. To help other kids facing the dreadful and dragging
surgeries he once had to go through, Ryan Kerr and his family started a volunteer organization called
Ryan s Case for Smiles to add some liveliness to the hospital rooms by making colorful homemade
pillowcases and help kids diagnosed with cancer in whatever way possible. I myself have contributed

INTRODUCTION
Emotional Intelligence is a situated of capacities concerned with transforming feelings and passionate
data. Debate about the particular significance of enthusiastic brainpower put aside, one inquiry is
foremost: Do sincerely canny pioneers accomplish unrivalled conclusions? (Walter et al., 2012). In a
few settings, it is somewhat natural that managing successfully with one s own and others feelings is a
key to achievement. All the more as of late, these abilities or capacities have again refinished as a
major center of consideration inside undertaking administration, determined by the more extensive
examine in passionate insights (EI) and the expanding writing that voiced concerns over the fitting
learning and aptitude base needed for venture chiefs to be compelling. A huge collection of
exploration has been fabricating in the course of recent decades that has discovered these enthusiastic
discernment capacities to be related with a scope of essential work related practices. (Clarke, 2010).
Profiling gives the eccentric mix of behavioural, fickle, passionate and mental traits of a pioneer, so as
to infer an individual s specific authority style. A late research study recommended diverse venture

Statutory Rape Essay
The perspective offered by such longitudinal data sheds remarkable light on the problem of statutory
rape, identifying for us key markers, as well as key actors, in the history of the law s enforcement and
helping us to understand their roles in constructing the meaning of this crime over successive
generations. ... The statutory rape codes have been used at various times to reinforce fathers interests
in their daughters marriageability, to protect young women s chastity from seductive men, to control
promiscuous or disease laden adolescent females, to enhance child support collection efforts, to reduce
teenage pregnancy, and to identify and punish sexual exploitation of teenagers. ... Given the constant

Perpetrators of statutory rape were not being pursued vigorously, as the concept of rape based on
presumed inability to consent to sex had fallen out of favor. ... As conservative commentators decried
the harmful public and financial consequences of the rising teen birth rate, a handful of social
scientists devoted their efforts to learning more about the relationships and behaviors that led to births
among teenagers: they studied the youth population and their sexual partners looking for clues to
explain changing patterns of behavior. ... Pursuant to changes in the SRVPP Guidelines, California s
statutory rape enforcement policy grew to encompass all forms of non pregnancy inducing sex
between adults and minors (including sexual behavior short of intercourse, acts between adult women
and teen boys, and acts between same sex partners), as well as crimes involving multiple victims,
pimping/prostitution, the provision of alcohol or drugs to minors, acquaintance rape, and rape of
disabled minors. ... These same themes emerged in the early 1990s, when a new set of fiscally and
morally conservative policymakers became concerned about rising welfare costs and the
demographics of the populations receiving welfare; like their predecessors, they constructed statutory
rape as antithetical to the social norms of financial and sexual responsibility and dangerous to society

The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles
There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude
toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey on
arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive intense
fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law requiring sex
offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an International Megan s
Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their status added to their
passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex crime. Most people consider
pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a child and that all pedophiles will
commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth. The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines
the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving
intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either
been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. With
the latter half of this definition, we begin to open up to the idea that there are those who have sexual
interests in children who have had no form of inappropriate contact with a child, but rather just have
their daily life affected by the feelings that they are having toward

Pink And William Shakespeare s Pink Floyd, The Wall
In modern stories, the protagonist anti hero displays trends to either invoke more empathy or less
empathy from the audience. The three types of anti heroes are satanic, promethean, and byronic. A
satanic anti hero is an individual who seeks an evil goal. Macbeth, a satanic anti hero, is dauntless and
a courageous warrior who values his pride and is apathetic towards others safety. A byronic anti hero
is an individual who has unclear goals and questionable means. They are unpredictable, moody,
mysterious, and is often self destructive. Pink is both a byronic anti hero and a satanic anti hero. Due
to the trauma he has endured, it has caused him to alienate himself from all humanity. Pink does not

Mother s gonna put all her fears into you displays how Pink s mother tried to make the world seem
like a scary place so Pink would stay by her side. Pink becomes trapped in his mother s world which
causes Pink to shelter himself from the outside world (naive) and to seek approval from his mother. In
addition to his life at home, he is also influenced by his teachers. At school, there were certain teachers
who would hurt the children any way they could. The Happiest Days of Our Lives shows that Pink
had been bullied for writing poems, an activity he enjoyed doing. Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 2
portrays school as a prison; a toxic environment where children were treated as animals, not humans.
Pink s individuality and freedom was stripped away from him and he faced humiliation. To avoid
future humiliation, Pink adds another brick in the wall surrounding him; further alienation. In Macbeth
s case, he was influenced by the three witches and his wife, Lady Macbeth. The three witches were
like the devil on Macbeth s shoulders. Without their prophecy to Macbeth, he probably would not
have gone on an endless murder spree. They played with his ambitions to be king and pushed him into
killing King Duncan; a call to adventure. Macbeth was hesitant with his plan to kill Duncan knowing
it is wrong. Although he wants to be king, he has no spur to prick the sides of [his] intent. In order for
Macbeth to go through with the plan, Lady Macbeth insults

An Analysis Of Lucky Jim By Kingsley Amis
Entitled and Not Entitled In Lucky Jim, by Kingsley Amis that Dixon is the one that gets everything
he wants. It might not seem that he is getting what he wants at the beginning. It is not like that because
yes he was dating Margaret. She wanted to kill herself because Dixon was not being with her or
treating her like she wanted to be treated. Which during those hard moments he was going through it
was just like a test in life for better to come in a way. Having to be entitled makes kids or people very
selfish. For example there is nine ways that you know your child has an issue or is entitled. They can
not handle disappointments, expect a prize when they are behaving good, feels that rules do not have
to apply to them, constantly wants more, blames others when it is their fault, and expects to be rescued
when they have a problem. It is like when kids feel that are better than any other kids or people. Being
entitled is something it seems that does not happen to him. Eventually it does though he has a girl that
is one of the biggest things that makes him feel good at first. Then seeing his girl being obsessed with
him makes him alil uncomfortable. He makes a move that gets a little away from her. Which yes she
pretends to commit suicide to get the attention. That is why he does not break up with her feeling bad
for her. Though people just feel bad for her of the way she acts. He is a poor guy that struggles in his
job well trying to keep his job. Gets frustrated really quick has a bad mood sometimes. Amis says ,
Dixon knew all this , and very much better than Welch could hope to, but he felt constrained to say:
Yes , I see. I think living with you, Professor, and Mrs. Welch, must have helped her a lot to get out of
the wood (Amis 3). Shows that she is in good care or you can say good hands. Dixon is still worried
about her which make him a really good boyfriend, but she wants more than that. Margaret wants him
to be by herself but he really does not want to be in that position because he lost those types of
feelings for her. There is so much love for him that he does not notice that it is there next to him
asking to open the doors or him. He seems that no one is there for him but many people is actually

Feminine Sexuality in The Storm
Kate Chopin s short story The Storm ; describes an encounter of infidelity between two lovers during
a brief thunderstorm. The story alludes to the controversial topic of women s sexuality and passion,
which during Chopin s time no one spoke about much less wrote about. So controversial was The
Storm, ; that it was not published until after her death in eighteen ninety nine. The story is broken up
into five sections, each filled with small clues and hints that reflect her message. In short, Kate Chopin
s The Storm ; is about a confirmation of feminine sexuality and passion and a rejection of the
suppression of it by society.

Her sexuality has been repressed by the constraints of her marriage and society s view of women,
represented by the housework being done before the storm hits. Chopin alludes to this theme of
suppression again as Alcee is invited into Calixta s home. The author writes, Come long in, M sieur
Alcee. His voice and her own startled her as if from a trance, and she seized Bobinot s vest. Alcee,
mounting to the porch, grabbed the trousers and snatched Bibi s braided jacket that was about to be
carried away by a sudden gust of wind. ; Alcee grabs Bobinot s pants, symbolically subverting the
social and martial constraints that control Calixta.
Chopin presents many details of Calixta s affirmation of her sexuality and passion. As the storm s
intensity increases, it becomes necessary to put something underneath the door to keep the rain out.
My! what a rain! It s good two years sence it rained it rain like that, exclaimed Calixta as she rolled up
a piece of bagging and Alcee helped her to thrust it beneath the crack. ; The sexual connotation of
thrusting it beneath the crack ; is evident, but it is important to notice that Calixta initiates this sexual
act, not Alcee. This is a far cry from an ordinary, repressed housewife. Quite the contrary, Chopin

Spinal cord injury is a serious problem that effects close to 250,000 people in the United States with

Once the nervous system infrastructure is established and connections are made, the body would want
to keep them constant. If they were to constantly be changing then our bodies would have a difficult
time communicating within itself. The other factor in favor of limited growth is the lack of physical
space within the spinal cord. If nerve cells kept growing they would quickly run out of space and that
would create all kinds of new problems.
The limited space within the vertebrae actually plays an important roll in spinal cord injury. Once the
initial injury occurs the body, as with every other part of the body, tries to protect the injured area with
swelling. But the swelling occurs within the small confines of the spinal column and causes further
damage to the surrounding tissue. It has only recently been discovered how much of an impact this
secondary damage has. One of the areas of crucial ongoing research is on what kind of window of
opportunity medicine has in treating these types of injuries and still attaining the best recovery.
There have also been breakthroughs in stimulating nerve re growth by Dr. Martin Schwab at the

the inhibitory proteins which prevent nerve growth. Using IN 1 with naturally occurring nerve growth
factors, NT 3, he was able to produce promising results, with rats regaining some function where there

Critical Reflection
Anyone can turn his weaknesses into strengths , I was reading the book David and Goliath by
Malcolm Gladwell, and the book was about a battle between David, the underdog, and Goliath, the
giant, and it explains how David defeated a giant by using his unconventional strategies. It also talks
about how some underdogs can overcome their weaknesses; in addition, it also explains how power
comes in different forms. Malcolm Gladwell proved his arguments by providing some real life
experiences of different underdogs. According to Gladwell, an underdog is a person who is
underestimated by everyone to perform any task successfully. Malcolm Gladwell also explains many
other terms to prove his argument. I have experiences in my student life where I felt like an underdog.
I felt disempowered because of my weaknesses. I still remember the first day of my English 838 class
at College of San Mateo, and I felt so unconfident in the classroom because I was not a native speaker.
There were also moments in my college classes where I felt empowered because of my strengths; for
example, I felt empowered in my Math 120 and pre calculus class because I already knew the
concepts of these classes. I had a lot of moments in my life where I felt empowered and disempowered
as a student, but learning from those moments helped me to succeed in my college classes.
I felt disempowered in my English 838 classroom because English was not my native language. I have

Australian military history. It was formed in haste from disparate Victorian militia elements in Oct
Nov 1941. Jack Boland is a real person who fought at the Kokoda Track. The Kokoda Track is in

Further into the journey the hero faces The Resurrection, their most threatening meeting with death. In

the characters that he has met along his journey. Moreover, The Return with the Elixir is the final
reward earned on the hero s journey and has earned the right to be accepted back into the Ordinary
World. The Elixir will restore balance to the Ordinary World, and in most tales, the Return with the
Elixir completes the cycle of this journey. In addition, Archetypes are like a character s own mask that
represents the character s role play in the story. A single Archetypal mask can be transferred to one

Domestic Violence Among Same Sex Couples
Domestic Violence Among Same sex Couples
In an ideal world, every individual is entitled to their own safety and freedom. No man is supposed to
inflict pain to other individual; especially if that individual is their better half. Thus, the term domestic
violence is normally applied to intimate heterosexual partners who are married. Society then levies
that domestic violence only exist between married couples. This primitive assumption is somewhat
problematic with the emergence of varying types of relationship. However, as time changes, this
simple definition of domestic violence has been redefined to accommodate the changes that had
happened. This includes the individuals in a relationship outside marriage and individuals in
relationship with the same sex. According to Women s Aid (2009; featured in the article The Love
Trap), Domestic violence is physical, sexual, psychological, or financial violence that takes place
within an intimate or family type relationship and that forms a pattern of coercive and controlling
behavior .
Domestic violence is generally defined as any act of violence in the form of physical, emotional,
psychological, and financial abuse between two individuals who are in an intimate relationship.
Although the National Coalition of Anti Violence Program (NCAVP) (as cited by Black et al., 2010),
argues that domestic violence is not just about the abuse itself that matters but the control being
imposed by the abuser. It is the coercion and the power

Labeling And Deviance Essay
Labeling and Deviance At its core, deviance is a label. Deviance, the breaking of social norms, is by
definition socially constructed. Social norms exist only if society as a whole agrees to behave as if
they do; as a corollary, deviance exists only if these norms are believed firmly enough to punish a
breach. As shown in Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia: The Development of Deviant Identities, On
Being Sane in Insane Places, and The Labeling Hype: Coming of Age in the Era of Mass
Incarceration, the labels assigned to those who exhibit deviant behavior only reinforce deviance,
leading to the development of a master status around the deviant behavior. The article Anorexia
Nervosa and Bulimia suggests that even positive labeling can affect deviance, a unique assertion
among the three readings. Most pre anorexics and bulimics display notable conventionality as model
children and felt that perfect or near perfect grades were expected of them (McLorg ... Show more

Nevertheless, the label becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and master status through interactions with
others (Rosenhan 204). It is clear in Rosenhan s experiment that even for the supposedly sane
pseudopatients, behaviors could be perceived as abnormal or deviant. Rosenhan explains this
succinctly as once a person is designated as abnormal, all of his other behaviors and characteristics are
colored by that label (202). This is, essentially, the definition of a master status: one status that
outweighs all others (class lecture, #9). This status is absorbed, and the roles are taken on: eventually,
the patient himself accepts the diagnosis, with all of its surplus meanings and expectations, and
behaves accordingly, and so the patient takes on secondary deviance (Rosenhan

The Bible And Divine Communication In The Bible
Divine communication: the contact between a higher power and a mortal. This is a constant theme in
many works of literature throughout the ages. Divine communication comes in many forms such as
oracles, prophets and direct communication with God. In the Bible, mortals often have direct contact
with God, who is seen as a father figure. In contrast, divine communication in Oedipus the King
comes in the form of oracles and prophets, which are seen as an abstract entity. While both God and
the Oracles have the same intent of guiding and advising those involved, individuals were more apt to
listen to divine communication in the Bible because it derived from a fatherly figure while individuals
tended to reject divine intervention in Oedipus the King because it came from an abstract source.
The Bible, which is the most sacred text in the Christian religion, has many occurrences of individuals
communicating with God. In each example of contact, divine communication seeks to help individuals
worship God. In the very beginning of Genesis, the creation of life. In the second creation story God
says to Eve you shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall
you touch it, lest you die (Genesis 3:3). Here, God is warning Adam and Eve of the dangers that
surround them in the Garden of Eden and the precautions they must take. This proves the goal God s
contact with humans on earth is to benefit them rather than hurt them. Rather than leaving Adam

Analysis Of Just Do What The Pilot Tells You
Just Do What You Are Told
What if one continued to do what they were told no matter the consequences? The author, Theodore
Dalrymple, is a British physician who discusses why blind obedience is discouraged. His article, Just
Do What the Pilot Tells You , was first published in the New Statesman. In this specific article, he
touches on points in our lives when we are supposed to do what we are told. Disobedience is when a
person chooses to disobey some sort of order they were directed to do. The main point that the author
is trying to make is that neither obedience or disobedience should be more prominent than the other.
Although Dalrymple seems to be explaining reasons that people choose to obey or disobey, he is
actually using these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, on the other hand, one could essentially be follower and does not make their own choices. He is
also implying that the findings of Milgram s experiment may in fact not be true. The author relies on
the point that his experiment was heavily supported by the fact that the participants were being lied to.
The author also uses things like examples and past experiences to get his central idea about obey and
disobey across. He uses the example of a social worker from a hospital. In this example, he goes about
it by asking the women if she is against all authority. She replies stating that she is strongly against
any type of authority, but she later realized that she was not completely against it because she was
allowing the pilot to fly the plane. During this section of the story, the author once again brings up
Milgram s experiment. Dalrymple states that according to Milgram, people are only doing what they
are told. He also examines the fact that during the experiment why people chose to keep going with it
even though they did not agree. According to the writer, this type of obedience would be blind because
the person is not thinking for themselves but instead just following orders. This applies

characters of their personalities. Like Vygotsky theory, Children are practicing what they have learned

Critically assess the view that we are not responsible for our evil actions
Many Philosophers, such as Hoderich and John Calvin, believe that humans do not have free will to
act in moral situations and that all moral actions have uncontrollable prior causes. Hard determinists,
therefore, follow the belief that humans can not be morally blameworthy for their actions, evil or not,
because their actions are predetermined. However, this is a ridiculous stance to take as humans are
free to make moral choices, meaning they are entirely responsible for their evil actions.

Combatting the Issue of Human Trafficking
Many organizations have formed to establish several resolutions for combating the issue of human
trafficking , both locally and nationally. I chose to investigate two existing social awareness
campaigns located in Ohio. The reasons I decided to explore these two organizations is because of the
obvious, that my classmates and I are in the state of Ohio but overall, it is due to the fact that this state
rank s number five in the nation for human trafficking. There are explanations behind the ranking of
Ohio for this issue. The first explanation is due to the inner city centers and country counties, which
included a big immigrant population. The second explanation is due to five main highways located
throughout Ohio. These highways make it convenient for human traffickers (Ohio State Bar
Association, 2014). The first campaign is called Second Chance, and it is located in Toledo, Ohio.
Second Chance s mission statement is To offer supportive services to women and youth affected by or
at risk for involvement in sex trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation, as they reclaim lives of
choice. To raise community awareness about the issues of sex trafficking and the commercial sexual

Lacan And Foucault And The Gaze
The term the gaze has a general meaning that means to look at something with intent and with fixed
attention. Lacan, Fanon and Foucault all use the gaze in order to refer to various concepts. Lacan uses
the gaze in order to refer to in instance during the mirror stage in which the subject views itself in the
mirror image. The subject then enters an anxious state that comes from the awareness from knowing
that it can be viewed. Lacan argues further that the individual then loses a level of self sufficiency
upon realising that they can be viewed as a visible object (Felluga, 2015).

The awareness of being seen is a consequence of an unlocalizable mechanism in which he feels
photographed in an undesirable manner. This is exactly what Lacan describes as the gaze. Lacan states
that the gaze is everywhere and at the same time, it is nowhere (Bleeker, 2008). The gaze manifests
itself further through its effects rather than through the source. Therefore, like Fanon, the gaze cannot
be located. A difference Between Fanon s gaze and Lacanian gaze is that Lacan s gaze places
emphasis on how an individual views them self therefore it is the gaze upon one s self, where Fanon s
white gaze emphasises how we are affected by other people s gazes, most crucially how the white
gaze is used in order to impose power over black people. Fanon s gaze is also based entirely on race
and how one race grouped is viewed under the gaze of another race group, which in turn affects their

My Favorite Food
Ever since I was a little boy, pizza has always had a special place in my heart. From pizza day in the
school cafeteria to pizza parties at sleep away camp, there was nothing more exciting than when that
cardboard box was opened to reveal a round pie with eight delicious slices waiting to be devoured.
Early on I learned that everybody eats their pizza differently. There are those who fold their slices in
half, those who eat their slices with two hands, and those who (dare I say) like to cut their pizza with a
fork and knife. Some people soak up the olive oil with a napkin, while others don t mind a greasy
slice. Some people like the crust, while others live for that first bite. Some people decorate their slices
with spices, while others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pizza is thin enough that two people can split a large pie. In fact, ordering the small pie for $2 less
is not even economical.
There is no better place to digest Grimaldi s than on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade overlooking
lower Manhattan. It s the only place in the city that I can be assured to find at least one bride and
groom snapping photos every time I m there. On weekend afternoons it s common to see five or six
couples taking wedding photos. Walking back on the bridge, one feels content, satisfied,
accomplished, and [insert positive feeling here]. There are few experiences that rival this.
The spring of 2004 took me to Italy where I spent a semester studying in Florence. At the time, I was
not a big foodie, so I rarely kept track of where I ate. Today, however, if I was to return, my entire trip
would be dictated by food. Although Florence is a very Americanized city, my apartment was a 20
minute walk from the center of town. One evening, while exploring the area around our apartment, my
roommates and I discovered a little hole in the wall restaurant on a hidden side street. There wasn t a
single English speaking person in the entire place and there was no English version of the menu.
Although I have no idea what this place was named, I know how to get back there

Benefits Of Pledging To A Sorority Or Fraternity
Most people when they think of college they think of majors, classes, and getting to meet new people
but others look forward to pledging to a sorority or fraternity. Pledging to a sorority or fraternity
means making a life long commitment with people who then become your said brothers and said
sisters, but with pledging comes hazing. Hazing is humiliating and, in most cases, dangerous initiation
rituals, but it is a typical thing that happens when someone pledges. Although hazing is a tradition and
has always been a part of pledging, it shouldn t be part of the process due to multiple cases of death
and the overall attitude towards it.
Hazing in fraternities and sororities has become a tradition in the United States culture for decades

  • 2. Ivan the Terrible Essay Ivan IV was a complicated man, with a complicated past, in a complicated country, in a complicated time; his story is not an easy one. Ivan the terrible, the man, could never be completely understood in a few words, nor in a few pages, and only perhaps in a few volumes. If working adults took online courses they can do their work anywhere there is an internet connection however they have to ask themselves; would I get the same or better education I could if I was sitting in a classroom? In a classroom setting they would get the interaction with fellow classmates and the professor who all come from different places in their lives. If the working adult had a question or did not understand they would get the results right away, on the other hand, if the student is learning online they have to wait for their professor. The response time for their email to be read and returned will not be there when it s fresh in the student s mind. How Does Citizen Kane Use Cinematography Extract analysis of cinematography within Citizen Kane [12:30 22:30] This essay is an analysis of a key sequence in Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941) that uses cinematography to create mystery, intrigue, and disorder. The scenes introduce us to many main characters and help establish the film. The initial scene is set in a projector room where Rawlston is telling his employees, mainly Mr. Thompson to find out more about rosebud. A long shot is used to establish the surroundings, however; the lighting blocks off a lot of what can be seen. It is argued that their visual mysteriousness reflects the dramatic mystery that is Kane. (Brophy, P 2008). The placement of the characters has sidelined Mr. Kane to insinuate that Mrs. Kane is the one in charge as she is the closest and in the foreground. Throughout the scene, Mrs. Kane is distant and has no eye line match or emotion in her voice. This is done to show how emotionally distraught she is and how she is trying to keep herself together. To this day, modern technology has brought an amazing amount of cures and vaccines to fight off a multitude of diseases! Yet for some reason, no one has found a veritable solution to cancer, despite countless years of intensive research. As this happens, many around the globe diagnosed with cancer struggle every second of their lives to conquer it. One such person was my grandma, who was diagnosed with a terminal cancer (leukemia) around five years ago. We were close and intimate with each other, so this was mentally distressing for me. At that time, she did not have much money and thus could not afford her cancer treatments. No one was able to contribute because the treatments were extortionate at that time. Unfortunately, she was not able to win her battle. Another person I knew who was affected by cancer was a boy who went to my school: Ryan Kerr. He always had a glowing personality and displayed nothing but pure generosity. He bravely fought against his cancer Osteosarcoma and refused to stop until he could not continue further. To help other kids facing the dreadful and dragging surgeries he once had to go through, Ryan Kerr and his family started a volunteer organization called Ryan s Case for Smiles to add some liveliness to the hospital rooms by making colorful homemade pillowcases and help kids diagnosed with cancer in whatever way possible. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey on arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive intense fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law requiring sex offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an International Megan s Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their status added to their passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex crime. Most people consider pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a child and that all pedophiles will commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth. The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. It might not seem that he is getting what he wants at the beginning. It is not like that because yes he was dating Margaret. She wanted to kill herself because Dixon was not being with her or treating her like she wanted to be treated. Which during those hard moments he was going through it was just like a test in life for better to come in a way. Having to be entitled makes kids or people very selfish. For example there is nine ways that you know your child has an issue or is entitled. They can not handle disappointments, expect a prize when they are behaving good, feels that rules do not have to apply to them, constantly wants more, blames others when it is their fault, and expects to be rescued when they have a problem. It is like when kids feel that are better than any other kids or people. Being entitled is something it seems that does not happen to him. He makes a move that gets a little away from her. Which yes she pretends to commit suicide to get the attention. That is why he does not break up with her feeling bad for her. • 26. Domestic Violence Among Same Sex Couples Domestic Violence Among Same sex Couples In an ideal world, every individual is entitled to their own safety and freedom. No man is supposed to inflict pain to other individual; especially if that individual is their better half. Thus, the term domestic violence is normally applied to intimate heterosexual partners who are married. Society then levies that domestic violence only exist between married couples. This primitive assumption is somewhat problematic with the emergence of varying types of relationship. However, as time changes, this simple definition of domestic violence has been redefined to accommodate the changes that had happened. This includes the individuals in a relationship outside marriage and individuals in relationship with the same sex. According to Women s Aid (2009; featured in the article The Love Trap), Domestic violence is physical, sexual, psychological, or financial violence that takes place within an intimate or family type relationship and that forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behavior . Domestic violence is generally defined as any act of violence in the form of physical, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse between two individuals who are in an intimate relationship. • 27. Labeling And Deviance Essay Labeling and Deviance At its core, deviance is a label. Deviance, the breaking of social norms, is by definition socially constructed. Social norms exist only if society as a whole agrees to behave as if they do; as a corollary, deviance exists only if these norms are believed firmly enough to punish a breach. As shown in Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia: The Development of Deviant Identities, On Being Sane in Insane Places, and The Labeling Hype: Coming of Age in the Era of Mass Incarceration, the labels assigned to those who exhibit deviant behavior only reinforce deviance, leading to the development of a master status around the deviant behavior. The article Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia suggests that even positive labeling can affect deviance, a unique assertion among the three readings. It is clear in Rosenhan s experiment that even for the supposedly sane pseudopatients, behaviors could be perceived as abnormal or deviant. This is, essentially, the definition of a master status: one status that outweighs all others (class lecture, #9). This status is absorbed, and the roles are taken on: eventually, the patient himself accepts the diagnosis, with all of its surplus meanings and expectations, and behaves accordingly, and so the patient takes on secondary deviance (Rosenhan ... • 28. The Bible And Divine Communication In The Bible Divine communication: the contact between a higher power and a mortal. This is a constant theme in many works of literature throughout the ages. Divine communication comes in many forms such as oracles, prophets and direct communication with God. In the Bible, mortals often have direct contact with God, who is seen as a father figure. In contrast, divine communication in Oedipus the King comes in the form of oracles and prophets, which are seen as an abstract entity. While both God and the Oracles have the same intent of guiding and advising those involved, individuals were more apt to listen to divine communication in the Bible because it derived from a fatherly figure while individuals tended to reject divine intervention in Oedipus the King because it came from an abstract source. The Bible, which is the most sacred text in the Christian religion, has many occurrences of individuals communicating with God. In each example of contact, divine communication seeks to help individuals worship God. In the very beginning of Genesis, the creation of life. In the second creation story God says to Eve you shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die (Genesis 3:3). In this specific article, he touches on points in our lives when we are supposed to do what we are told. Disobedience is when a person chooses to disobey some sort of order they were directed to do. The author also uses things like examples and past experiences to get his central idea about obey and disobey across. He uses the example of a social worker from a hospital. In this example, he goes about it by asking the women if she is against all authority. She replies stating that she is strongly against any type of authority, but she later realized that she was not completely against it because she was allowing the pilot to fly the plane. During this section of the story, the author once again brings up Milgram s experiment. Dalrymple states that according to Milgram, people are only doing what they are told.
