Essay about Love in Valentine and The Flea
Love in Valentine and The Flea
Through a close analysis of language, structure and theme, compare and contrast the poets attitude to
love in Valentine and The Flea.
The poem The Flea is about a man trying to cunningly argue a woman into bed. John Donne s The
Flea was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this was called
a coterie, which was a group of like minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each other s
amusement. This poem was written sometime in the 17th century where religion was extremely
important and sex before marriage frowned upon. The poet is exploring ideas and feelings about lust
and how unimportant losing virginity is, which a woman will obviously object to. ... Show more

He is persistent in his argument and irritating, this portrays himself as a replicate of a flea, just trying
to get what he wants.
In the first stanza John Donne is narrating to the reader. The flea has sucked his blood and hers and he
is now using this flea as an example for his argument by saying:
Mark but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deniest me is;
He is also implying that virginity is small and insignificant. This will obviously offend the girl because
virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does not seem to
give up on this point.
The poet uses cunning phrases such as:
Thou know st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead;
Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security. This is a great technique to win
his argument.
At the end of stanza one, the poet becomes quite melodramatic:
Yet this enjoys before it woo,
And pamper d swells in one blood made of two;
And this, alas! is more than we would do.
Donne could be implying that the flea easily has enjoyment from sucking her blood and that he
himself has no pleasure from her. This might show he has an egotistical attitude towards women.
Donne s use of physical language such as suck d , blood and
swells implies his lustful desires and show the sensual undercurrents of the poem.
At the start of the

Plato s Symposium, By Plato
In the book, Plato s Symposium, by Plato, who was a philosopher in Greece, he illustrates the dialectic
discussion at a party at Agathon s to celebrate his triumph of his first tragedy. In the Symposium; the
guests Phaedrus, an Athenian aristocrat; Pausanias, the legal expert; Eryximachus, a physician;
Aristophanes, eminent comic playwright; Agathon ,a tragic poet and host of the banquet; Socrates,
eminent philosopher and Plato s teacher; and Alcibiades, a prominent Athenian statesman, orator and
general; discuss their own versions and viewpoints to praise the god of love. First, we have Phaedrus,
who starts to say that love is the most ancient of the gods and should be praiseworthy, next we have
Eryximachus who states that love affects everything in the universe and that it should be protected,
next we have Aristophanes, who states that the reason why love is on earth is because god has split
humanity in half and that man should fear the gods and should embrace love to feel whole again, and
last we have Socrates who suggests what Diotima explains that love is in the middle of two things or
objects and has both characteristics. Phaedrus starts off the conversation of love stating how the god
Love doesn t get much attention in songs and that he should be praiseworthy because he has helped
men to gain honor and blessedness. This begins the symposium and functions as a way to tell the
reader what the topic would be about and why the guests in the party should discuss it.

The Effects Of Maltreated Children On Children
The Effects on Maltreated Children In the US alone nearly 3 million children experience some form of
maltreatment (Spinazzola, Hidgdon, Ford, Briggs, Liang, Layne, Pynoos, Stolbach, Kisiel, 2014 p.
S19). The maltreatment of children is an issue that is happening around the world. Most people think
about physical abuse being the most common form of maltreatment; however, emotional abuse
accounts for 36% ( Spinazzola et al 2014 p. S19) , and emotional neglect accounts for 52%
(Spinazzola et al 2014 p. S19) of identified child maltreatment cases. Most studies look at how abuse
and neglect impacts children in many emotional and behavioral ways; meanwhile, nothing is changing
when it comes to their recovery. Most maltreated children will ... Show more content on

It is concerning that there is little knowledge in their adaptive behavior; subsequently, if we can
understand what abilities they are able to perform than a more suitable intervention can be planned.
Deficits in adaptive functioning should be addressed when completing an evaluation, so that better
interventions can be put in place. (Viezel, Lowell, Davis, Castillo, 2014) In the study Differential
Profiles of Adaptive Behavior of Maltreated Children they compared the differences in adaptive
behavior between children who were abused, neglected, and a comparison group. Children who had
been abused had a lower adaptive behavior then the comparison group, but the neglected children had
a moderately low range for all three domains (Viezel, Lowell, Davis, Castillo 2014 p. 577). With the
findings they suggested that neglected children would have delays in coping skills, personal care
skills, expressive communication, and the inability to participate in appropriate play. This is consistent
with previous research that suggested; youth who were neglected experienced difficulties in social
interactions, social withdrawal, and isolation (Viezel et al 2014 p. 577). Child neglect has yet to gain a
lot of attention or interventions when compared to child physical abuse, this is concerning since
research suggests that child neglect has significant delays to their

Essay on Cloning
It all started back in the fifties when James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA
(D Souza NA). Ever since there has been talk of human and animal cloning. It all seemed out of reach
and basically impossible, but in 1997 that all changed when a sheep, named Dolly, was the first ever
mammal to be cloned. She was cloned for the purpose of curing disease and research on animal organs
for human transplantation (Schaeffer 3). Now that scientists know that it is possible to clone literally
anything with DNA, the world has become a rather scary place.
This raises the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject of animal cloning has provoked debate about the ethics of interfering with nature as well
as about the danger of using laboratory means to accomplish what habitat preservation and other
conservation measures cannot (Gugliotta A3). Now there is talk that they are going to start cloning
animals that have been extinct from ten to thousands of years ago. Scientists are contemplating the
possibility of cloning a 20,000 year old woolly mammoth from a block of ice in northern Siberia and
are planning to use an elephant for it is surrogate mother (Gugliotta A3). This is just crazy, I don t
think that I need to remind every one of the movie Jurassic Park. Do we want to move into a world of
genetically engineered animals? I definitely do not; these animals became extinct for a reason and who
are we to say that it is time for them to roam to earth again?
Another type of cloning that is now being investigated is the use of biotechnology to help infertile
couples have children. Even Ian Wilmut, the scientist who cloned Dolly and has come out publicly
against human cloning, was not trying to help sheep have genetically related children (Thomas 47).
This technique to impregnate infertile couples is basically the same that they are using on the animals.
First an egg is removed from a woman and all of its genetics are then stripped. Then the cells from the
donor are

How Does Steinbeck Use Nature In Of Mice And Men
Over the course of the novel, John Steinbeck beautifully describes nature through symbolism to help
the reader understand the striking, strong story line. For example, at the beginning of the story, he
gives us a description of the setting. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening,
and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of coons , and with the spread pads of dogs from
the ranches, and with the split wedge tracks of the deer come to drink in dark. (1) When reading this
novel Steinbeck describes animals to show the characters actions. When describing the use of rabbits
hiding In the brush, the reader might seem bewildered why someone needs to be so descriptive about
nature in this book. It seems irrelevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two things stand for important attributes in human nature, hope. The day was going fast now.
Only the tops of the Gabilan mountains flamed with the light that had gone from the valley. A water
snake slipped along the pool, its head held up like a little periscope. (7) This relates to the characters
in the novel as after Lennie and George get kicked out of Weed they looked for new opportunities. The
sunshine lay in a thin line under the window. Curley s wife lays in the barn.(37) The afternoon sun
sliced in through the cracks of the barn walls and lay in bright lines on the hay. (38) Even though this
does not relate to any of the characters it is personification. Although There was evening brightness
showing through the windows of the bunkhouse, inside it was dusk. (38) That shows how at first the
ranch looked great, but Lennie and George were mistaken. Already the sun had left the valley to go
climbing up the slopes of the Gabilan mountains, and the hilltops were rosy in the sun (99) This also is
personification. The light climbed on out the valley, and as it went, the tops of the mountains seemed
to blaze with increasing brightness. (99) This personification describes how George came up the
valley as if he was the

Summary Of Nathan Jergenson s The IRL Fetish
In the article The IRL Fetish by Nathan Jergenson, is a powerful essay that demonstrates the idea of
this so called Fetish that we have with technology today. Within this essay Jergenson uses specific
word choice in his essay to strengthen his argument about being connected. He uses quotes from other
speakers and writers to get his points acrossed about this fetish that we have in our society right now.
Finally, Jergenson also talks about the little victories that we have with technology, like logging off ,
and the irrational fear that we have about being disconnected.
Jergenson uses very important vocabulary in his writing of this essay. He uses terms like fetish, digital
dualism, and Myopic. The title of this essay is The IRL ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

then can infer that he was talking about how some people it s easy for them to disconnect because they
have such a lavish lifestyle to keep in touch with. I also agree with Jengenson argument because not
everyone has a great life, sometimes social media is there escape or safe haven from the troubles and
stresses of the real world. I for one have been guilty of going to the digital world when I m having a
hard time in the real world. By logging on I tend to forget about what happening in the real world and
flock to things that will be the complete opposite of how things are in the real world.
Jengenson also makes a point about how people are proud to be logged off. And I 100% agree with
him. I for one have been guilty of being proud for not using my phone, at things like the being at
dinner table, holidays, and hanging out with friends and family. For the most part I do have my phone
out because sometimes funny things happen to me at dinner or with the family, so it is very hard not to
be tempted to catch something and share it with my friends and family on social media. One week I
went to a leadership camp in the summer and to attend we had to agree to leave all technology at
home, for a full week. Now I know that sounds pathetic but it

The Role Of Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People
The Stolen Generations is a term used to describe the actions of which Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people, mostly children, were taken away from their families between the 1890 s and the
1970 s (Korff, 2014). Children were taken to institutions or adopted by non Indigenous families and
most never saw their families again. In the early 1900 s the Australian public was persuaded into
believing Aboriginal children were deprived, mistreated and at risk in their own communities. People
believed that Aboriginal children would receive a better education, a more loving and caring family
and a more civilised upbringing if adopted by white families or government institutions. In reality
Aboriginal children were being removed so that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McGarry, a member of the Parliament of New South Wales, objected to the Aborigines Protection
Amending Act 1915. The Act enabled the Aborigines Protection Board to remove Aboriginal children
from their parents without having to establish that they were in any way neglected or mistreated
(McKeich, 2006). McGarry described this policy as stealing the child away from its parents. In 1997,
the Bringing Them Home report was released. The report was based on findings from the Human
Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission s National Inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander children from their families (McKeich, 2006). The enquiry found that many
cases of forcible child removal occurred around the country. After the release of the report, the media
began using the term The Stolen Generations to describe the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people who shared their stories. The report did not refer to the term The Stolen Generations but rather
referred to it as forcible removal policies (McKeich, 2006). Very few records of the children that were
taken and is estimated that between 1883 and 1969 more than 6,200 children were stolen in NSW
alone (Korff, 2014). Today many people are still affected by the past child removal policy, either as a
first, second or third generation member of The Stolen Generations . In 2008, Australian Prime
minster Kevin Rudd made a nation wide apology to the Stolen Generations. While many

The Satanic Verses, Truth And Falsity
Through the violent deaths and hypocrisy, doubt in the sacred is reintroduced. Eileen Barker illustrates
brainwashing as the control the religious leaders have exerted over their followers . This questions
whether belief is imposed or cultivated. John Updike writes that Everything seemed still in place, yet
something was immensely wrong . Highlighting the sense of doubt in postmodernist texts, one may
find that some things, such as religion, cannot be explained. Faith can waver or hold steadfast,
characters revisiting belief in skepticism as ideology falters. In The Satanic Verses, truth and falsity is
ultimately ambiguous. Some characters are featured as wrestling with religious doubt, others like
Gibreel and Saladin think over their atheism after supernatural events. Definition is resisted, borders
blurred, it is questionable whether events are happening or merely figments of imagination. Gibreel
asks for some sign (30) that God is present during his illness, but realizes he is talking to air. He lost
his faith (29) and even after metamorphosis, it is revealed that Gibreel is schizophrenic. The
metamorphosis may be invented, as Rekha says to Gibreel maybe you are going crazy (7), but he is
seen by several others to levitate. Illustrating the struggle between the real and imaginary, miracles are
doubted, neither denied nor confirmed. From Where there is no belief, there is no blasphemy (380),
the sacred is discredited and blasphemy is no more than a simple

Casilda In The Judge s Wife By Isabel Allende
Indeed, a woman should soften but not weaken a man. This supposition exemplifies the character
Casilda from The Judge s Wife short story by Isabel Allende. Although not seen by all as the main
character, Casilda is the strongest and most evolutionary personality of the short story. The Judge s
Wife is an exceptional tale that follows the progression of characters as they fight against their
predetermined destinies and how they are viewed in others eyes. Casilda is a catalyst for the evolution
of almost every character in the story. Not only does her character grow in The Judge s Wife, but she
is also a medium for the growth of the two other main characters in the story. Casilda molds the
personality of a majority of the characters in the story, distinctly Judge Hidalgo and Nicolas Vida.
Casilda noticeably changed the character of Judge Hidalgo, into a softer man, in his field of
professionalism. In a close analysis of this narrative, we find that the Judge was a very cranky
bachelor who was very feared by all, in the village he lived, for his stubbornness and severe temper.
We are told that, when he enforced the law, Judge Hidalgo failed to give any account of the whys and
wherefores behind the indicted committing the crime. According to the author, not only did the judge
refuse to apply any common sense in his judgments but was also equally harsh in his condemnation of
the theft of a chicken as of premeditated murder (Allende 284). Across the village, not a single person
was safe from his cruelty. However, the judge changed, significantly after he married Casilda. All this
came to reality when the priest and a group of Catholic women approached Casilda to plead for the
life of Juana the Forlorn, a poor old woman who was subjected to torture for the reason that she made
an effort to capture her son. Casalda heeded to their requests and set forth for the town, with a bottle of
fresh water and a basket of food, taking her children dressed in their Sunday best. In spite of the
soldiers struggles to keep her away, the cries of her children crossed the years of Judge Hidalgo. This
made him realize the mistakes he had been making prompting him, Judge Hidalgo, to come down in
person and unlock the cage,

Essay about Medieval Warfare
The Medieval period was a time of noblemen who fought for love, honor, and country under a code of
chivalry. Chivalry comes from the French word cheval, chivalry means someone who fights from
horseback. The term also meant knighthood .(Matthews, Platt, Thomas p.234 235). In this period the
nobility used war as a way to show their power and hold their status by being professional soldiers.
There were also lots of soldiers from the lower classes who were led into battle under nobles. These
soldiers fought for the nobleman to maintain their safety and land. The soldiers rode into battle on
their horses in full armor with weapons drawn ready to defeat their enemies one by one. They laid
siege castles for weeks and months at a time until the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also larger weapons used to do damage to buildings and walls called siege weapons.
Among these weapons were trebuchets which were throwing machines and springalds which would
launch large projectiles at fortified walls (Prestwich p. 287) . Now that we know what weapons were
being used, it is time to look at the tactics that were involved. The archers, foot soldiers, and cavalry
all had to work together in order to make the battle go right. The army would be broken down into
three formations of which cavalry, foot soldiers, and archers were separated to attack at different times
(Verbruggen p.209) . Each of these ranks of soldiers have their own job in the battle. The archers
would usually start the battle and try to cause a break in the enemy s infantry formation. Once there
was a break in formation the infantry men would attack the lines of the enemy until the breaks in
formation got larger. Finally the cavalry men would come in on horses and wreak havoc on the enemy
s infantry. The battle must be fought like this because if the infantry was to advance first they would
meet the other infantry, and if the archers then fired they would be more likely to injure their own
troops. Or if the Cavalry was to charge first they would be met by the opposing infantry s poleaxes
and Halberds, thus killing their horses. A quick retreat was also a cause for lots of deaths in medieval
battles, because while the winning sides infantry was still attacking their cavalry

Persuasive Essay About False Confessions
Almost everyone who has seen a cop television show or movie has heard the saying You have the right
to remain silent . In America, people are raised to believe that the justice system never fails, and that
no matter what happens justice will always prevail, though for some people this safety net has failed
them. Since the late 1980s six studies have documented 250 interrogation induced false confessions.
Police induced false confessions are the result of multistep process and sequence of influence,
persuasion, and compliance. Imagine that a solider of the U.S. military is brought in for questioning,
kept locked up for sixteen hours in an interrogation room, constantly threatened with the death penalty
if they did not confess to the crime, and the whole time left without representation. In 1997 this was
the case for four individuals from Norfolk, Virginia held without representation and forced to give
false confessions. On July 8, 1997, William Bosko, an enlisted sailor returns home from a week at sea
to find his wife Michelle Moore Bosko gruesomely murdered in their apartment. Detectives interview
family, friends and neighbors of the couple before asking their next door neighbor Danial Williams to
come in for questioning. Danial Williams is interrogated for the next 11 hours by detectives Maureen
Evans and Robert Glenn Ford before confessing to the murder of Michelle Bosko. Even though

Changes In The Nineteenth Century
Over the course of the last century, we see ourselves looking and comparing all of the new changes
that have occurred. Some of the changes have been more significant than others but have affected us
greatly in some form. Many would say life today is a lot easier than it was in the nineteenth century.
Everything today is just a click away. Many of the changes that have occurred have been major
building blocks that have driven us to make life easier and more enjoyable. Three main components
that have significantly changed from the nineteenth century to the twenty first century are agriculture,
electronics, and traveling. Looking at our agriculture today from the past has had numerous changes
that have impacted us. Over seven billion people live in the world and that number is expected to grow
to nine billion by the year 2050 (Animal Smart). Today only two percent of the population produces
food like fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy that everyone eats and consumes (Animal Smart).

number has only gotten bigger and will continue to sky rocket. Today trains are used in a variety of
ways, from small city trams, subway electric trains, and distance trains that can reach speeds of 300

Body Language Of A Silent Film
Language developed tremendously through the use of silent films in the 1800s and early 1900s. A
silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of truly
transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a comfort zone in
order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey their stories. This was
achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body language. Firstly, one of the
greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr. This film encompasses all the core
principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming the cinematic boundaries of its day. The
key to achieving this is through the direct expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside
the plot and how Keaton specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a
wealthy girl (Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a
detective is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when
Keaton goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing
the audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He
shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This was
done using a tracking shot. Keaton s framing techniques were clear enough to tell the story,
particularly when

Health Care Costs Analysis
Healthcare is expensive and Americans want the best possible healthcare they can get. Consumers are
demanding more tests, better drugs and insurance coverage. Americans desire a high quality of life
and insurers/employers are trying to provide the means, but cost effectively and without raising costs.
In order to do this, consumers will have to make more decisions, pay more and perhaps demand
greater value (Barr, Paul).
The common forces driving utilization and costs are medical technology advancement, demanding
consumers, and an aging population (Barr). Advancements can be seen all over the medical field in

This Act creates a problem for the federal government: an even larger budget deficit. Medicare eats up
a large share of government expenditures...there [is] not ...enough money to keep Medicare as it now
operates afloat. Everybody s freaking about it (Barr). Providers who currently accept Medicare have
even stated that they will not continue to accept this form of payment if the rates for service decrease
or fees are not paid.
There is also the issue of the uninsured and the underinsured whom generate charges for services that
are not paid. There are currently 45 million Americans without insurance. These people are not denied
services when they are life threatening, therefore their unpaid bills are absorbed by the hospitals and
providers thus passed on to the consumer in the form of higher charges for service.
Those who have insurance and seek services are living longer. As Americans live longer with chronic
illnesses, the definition of good health that can be financed through insurance has been dramatically
expanded (Schaeffer, Leonard D.). This also translates into people expecting services for quality of
life issues. Some of those quality of life services are the prescribing of medications for erectile
dysfunction (ED) and experimental cancer treatment drugs that have not been proven to be wholly

Reducing High School Dropout Rates
Steinberg (2016) states, Adolescents who leave high school before graduating are more likely to come
from lower socioeconomic levels, poor communities, large families, single parent families, permissive
or disengaged families, and household where little reading material is available. In short, adolescents
who drop out of school are more likely to come from backgrounds with limited family capital, which
has three components: economic capital, social capital, and cultural capital (p. 341). Three actions that
should be taken to reduce the dropout rate is have families be encouraging and engaged, provide social
and cultural capital, and intervene in early childhood.
The first action that should be taken to reduce the dropout rate is to have families be encouraging,
engaged, and lenient. An adolescents achievement is linked to their parents standards and expectations
of their child. Parental encouragement is displayed in numerous ways. First, when parents encourage

vastly different. Both civilizations have seen their fair share of their empires rise and fall. Greece and
Roman today are both tourist places that we visit for the history they provide from hundreds of years
ago. Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire both seem to be founded and perspired due to some type
of water system helping them. Ancient Greece used the Mediterranean Seas new channels for trade.
Also, Greece used ships to help conquer nearby islands, which in return made them very vulnerable to
ground invasions. The Roman Empire was founded on the Tiber River for a trade post. Around 509 44
BCE Romans conquered and seemed to dominate the entire Mediterranean Sea basin. Both
civilizations found that the seas can help them conquer and control other civilizations. (Acrobatiq,
2017) Ancient Greece used a writing system call Linear B, which is short of similar to Linear A.
Linear B used syllabic signs, (composed of logograms, a base 10 number system, and short vertical
lines to separate words), to communicate messages a total of 87 in all. Originally this writing format
was thought to be influenced by the Minoans. Then a British linguist and cryptologist found that the
language was Indo European based, not Minoan who used the Linear A system instead. Ancient
Greece is part of the origins of philosophy or the love of wisdom . Greeks had a tradition of
challenging religion

Comparing Revelation On The Relationship Of Church And State
Paper 1: Comparing Revelation to Eusebius on the Relationship of Church and State
After reading chapters twelve through thirteen and seventeen through nineteen from the book of
Revelation, I have attained knowledge that allows me to see how the author of Revelation perceives
the Roman Empire. From the beginning of chapter twelve it is clearly portrayed that the woman who
is in the sky, about to give birth, is meant to symbolize Mary the mother of Jesus, or even Israel, the
birthplace of Jesus. The Dragon of course, represents Satan. When the Dragon is thrown down to
Earth due to its repulsive actions of trying to harm the woman s baby, it decides to make war against
the faithful Christians. As the story progresses in chapter thirteen, a ... Show more content on

Overall, the Roman Empire is perceived as an evil given its unruly authority and power from Satan
himself. Rome s relationship with Satan (the Dragon) is viewed as a partnership. Satan and the Roman
Empire both wanted to persecute Christians, and Satan provided Rome with the opportunity to do so
by giving them such power and authority over everything. Men worshipped the dragon because he had
given authority to the beast, and they all worshiped the beast (Revelation 13:4 New International
Version). Although Rome pretty much had this partnership with Satan, God/Jesus was and is still in
control and that s what chapter nineteen in the book of Revelation reassures for its readers. After this I
heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting (Revelation 19:1 New
International Version). This is a victory song and also assurance to the persecuted Christians of Asia
Minor that God is still in control and always will be and that everything will fall into place when the
time is right and when he plans for it to. God defeated the whore of Babylon and therefore defeated
the Roman Empire once and for all.
I believe that there were major social and historical factors that played a crucial role in influencing the
writing of the book of Revelation due to the fact that there was so much past heat between Christians
and the Roman Empire. There were several

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and legs twitched a bit like a pig
after it has been killed (217). This is what can happen to someone when all signs of civilization, order
and power disappear and have no more meaning to members of a group or society. In the writing of
William Golding s Lord of the Flies (1954), the symbol of power and civilization is the conch. Once
that is lost, all bets are off. When the novel begins, two boys are talking about what has happened and
why they are on this island. While walking on the beach, the main character Ralph then proceeds to
find a shell which the two boys call the conch. Blowing on this shell Ralph calls a meeting where the
boys lay out rules and decide they need a signal fire to be rescued from this island on which there are
no adults and no females. During the meeting Jack, a choir boy, decides to organize a group of hunters
to hunt for food. As the story progresses, Ralph finds himself and Jack to be enemies. Then the lord of
the flies begins to emerge within the group, many of whom begin to take on savage behavior, and end
up killing Simon. Jack then decides to go and start his own tribe; he and a lot of the others do so. Even
as the conflict increases between the two rivals, there is ongoing respect for the conch. The same
savages later kill the character Piggy who was not doing anything to them except trying to get his
glasses back that were stolen to make the fire. Then they try to kill

Empathy Quotes In To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee and published in 1960. Its success spans almost 6
decades and almost 1 million copies are sold per year. The book addresses different life lessons
including empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand the emotions of another, something which can
take a lifetime to learn. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee introduces the concept
of empathy and how it can change our thoughts, in a different perspective, and feelings towards
certain ideas, objects, or people. Towards the end of the book, Scout finally grasps the concept of
empathy thanks to Arthur Boo Radley, who she thinks he is a monster due to the rumors spread around
town. She meets him and she changes her perceptions about him as she recalls the events in the book.
She realized Atticus [her father] was right...you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes
and walk around in them (Lee 321). The concept of standing in someone else s shoes is another way

Leonato And Antonio Foil
In almost every book there are character foils, even if there are no antagonists. In the book Much Ado
About Nothing, there are many romances, fights, and hatred between characters. The couples of
Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero all describe a love between them, and the very same for
hatred. Much ado about nothing is about all of the romance that can go through rough patches. In
Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Antonio is a foil for Leonato because of their
opinions, emotions, and thoughts.
The opinions of Antonio and Leonato differ by many standards of their own. This is happening during
the wedding of Hero and Claudio and it happens after the shaming. An example of this is when

Atrahasis Account Of The Great Flood Essay
Atrahasis: Account of the Great Flood
The relationship between gods and humanity in Atrahisis: The Account of The Great Flood seems to
carry great irresponsibility. Most of the gods display the weak characteristics of humans. They whine
about work, constantly complain, selfishly create humans and then wish them dead. Enki and
Atrahasis, two of the main characters in the flood story (one god and one human), gain a mutual
respect that displays the proper relationship between humans and the divine. A relationship of
prayerful calling out to the gods, followed by a merciful response toward humankind, is the healthy
and correct picture this story shows us. A correct relationship between gods and humans carries the
possibility of eternal life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Impact of Macro Economics Factors in Share Market
1. INTRODUCTION
As an old adage goes, When the US gets a Cold, the rest of the World gets Pneumonia , in the globally
open economy.
One reason for this might be that Stock Market depends on the overall health of the Economy, and real
Economic variables which tend to display persistence. Therefore, an interesting question in finance is:
what derives stock market volatility? Understanding the nature of stock market volatility gives some
important implications for policy makers, economic forecasters and investors.

Inflation is bound to impact all sectors, either directly or indirectly. Inflation and stock market have a
very close association. If there is inflation, stock markets are the worst affected.
Relationship Between Inflation and the Stock Market
There is no one to one correlation between the Stock Market and Inflation. Typically, most investors
stay away from the stock market when inflation goes up. This is because prices of shares along with
the prices of everything else go up without any corresponding increase in intrinsic value. Such a bull
phase soon leads to a market correction due to many investors deciding to realise profits.
Inflation and stock market the logistics:
Prices of stocks are determined by the net earnings of a company. It depends on how much profit, the
company is likely to make in the long run or the near future. If it is reckoned that a company is likely
to do well in the years to come, the stock prices of the company will escalate. On the other hand, if it
is observed from trends that the company may not do well in the long run, the stock prices will not be
high. In other words, the price of stocks is directly proportional to the performance of the company. In
the event when inflation increases, the company earnings (worth) will also subside. This will
adversely affect the stock prices and eventually the returns.
Effect of inflation on stock market is also evident from the fact

be hard to grasp, basketball started off with two nailed up peach baskets (NBAHoopsOnline). After

on a ladder. That all changed in 1906 when the peach baskets were transformed to the hoops we see
today. It didn t take a genius to create hoops that were open at the bottom.Shockingly basketball was
first played with a soccer ball before being change to an actual basketball sponsored by Spalding in
1929. Kareem Abdul Jabbar apparently found it quite easy to make a lot of baskets because Kareem

How to Reduce Carbon Emissions to Comply with New UK Law...
1.0 Executive Summary
Climate change has been a major topic of debate in the UK over the recent years. The need to reduce
the impact of CO2 and other Green House Gases (GHG) on the environment has pushed the UK
Government to enact legislations (e.g. Climate Change Act 2008) and impose strict regulations on
businesses to reduce emissions. These actions have forced businesses across a wide range of industrial
sectors to rethink and rework their strategies of utilising energy, transport and land in an efficient
manner, which in turn has lead to innovative and at the same time simple yet effective methods to
reduce carbon emissions.

Tyr Research Paper
The God of Law and War
The god Tir, also known as Tiw, Tyr, Tiwaz and Mars is one that influenced many past cultures, but
not very well known today. In Norse mythology, Tyr was once a monotheistic god, worshiped as the
god of war, justice, law, and order. Some early Germanic peoples connected Tyr with Mars, the
Roman god of war. One influence is the third day of the week, known as dies Martis and Mars Day in
Latin, and also has become known as Tyrsdagr to the Norwegians and in the English dictionary as
Tuesday. The name Tyr is pronounced like the English word tier. This god is better known for war, but

Comparison Of Aristotle And Aquinas And The Highest Good
Comparison of Aristotle and Aquinas and the highest good Both Aristotle and Aquinas were prominent
philosophers who wrote profound works that discussed the concept of a highest human good. They
also included their own terms of achieving aforesaid good. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, the
highest good is a state of constant seeking as a way of achieving full capacity as a human. The
writings of Aquinas have some similarities to the writings of Aristotle, however, in Treatise on Law,
he discusses the type and elements of law and allowed the role of God to influence his ideas. His
analysis of law ultimately names the highest human good as being in the perfect community with God.
Aquinas s argument supports obedience to law, preexisting inclinations for the good, and a resolution.
Aristotle requires that the person constantly seek to know and be at work, which can act as a positive
force that drives humans to improve themselves. In Book One of the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle
argues for an ultimate end, and that knowledge of the good should be influential and important to all
human life. He explains that it is better to act aimed at the good of the whole, meaning society, and
transcend the level of individual preservation (1094b5 1094b10). Aquinas created a hierarchy of rules
to follow when acting in the name of the good. There is a specific order of the precepts of natural law.
The lowest inclination affects all substances and is the desire to preserve the self. Next,

LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
2.1.1 What is Abacus?
Greek words abax or abakon with the meaning table or tablet are the origin of the word Abacus
(Schools, 2007; Young, 2004). According to Young (2004) abacus is a mathematical device or tool
used by the people for performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Far before the invention of modern computers, abacus has been widely used especially by the Chinese

The main advantage of mobile educational game is that it enables the users to learn in non classroom
environment such as home and public areas (Kim et al., n.d. ). Besides, mobile games are interactive
because mobile games enabled players to interact with the games environment and thus make the
games more interesting and the players have the sense of engagement which will draw their attention
(Miangah Nezarat2, 2012). Besides, mobile games help people to save money as they do no need to
purchase an expensive console or computer in order to play the games (Paper, 2009). Furthermore,
mobile phone is convenient to bring around and thus increase the mobility (Shameem, 2012). Mobility
as mentioned above is the main reason why people play mobile games as compared to other digital
gaming (Fritsch et al., n.d.).
2.4.3 Disadvantages
The main disadvantages of mobile educational games is the distraction factors. When children plays
with the mobile phones, they will face the distraction with the incoming calls or messages and also
they will also tend to play with casual and entertainment based games as compared to educational
games when they play alone without the guidance of the parents (Fritsch et al., n.d.).

the murder of the character Santiago Nasar caused by a series of events. Marquez s depiction of the
patriarchal society in the novel reveals the role of men and women. In particular, family, men and
women expectations, honor, and sex portrayed in the novel are further utilized to reveal the
inequalities between both groups.
Consequently, Marquez recounts the traditional family in Columbian culture to unveil gender
expectations. At the beginning of the novel, for instance, Santiago Nasar s family viewed Santiago as a

involves that virginity of the women in his family. Violence due to the loss of Angela s virginity is

brother to seek revenge in order to restore her honor. The narrator clarifies this by revealing that the
twins were comforted by the honor of having done their duty . This helps clarify that the twins were
relieved and viewed the action as a duty rather than a murder, depicting the importance of killing

Immanuel Kant s Perpetual Peace
Although raised in the Christian faith, Immanuel Kant desired to approach the possibility of reaching
perpetual peace using reason, and natural laws alone. In Perpetual Peace: A Philosophical Sketch,
Kant explains the necessities required within a society that could bring about a form of perpetual
peace. In doing so, Kant s argument mostly focused on the avoidance of war, and keeping peace
within the states. Although he envisioned the possibility of this peace occurring within a society, I
argue that his notion of perpetual peace actually happening is inevitable. Of course, there are countless
ways of approaching the argument against Kant. Therefore, by using the writings of Fahon and Weil,
the argument could be shown with the support of both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She states that this force enslaves man, force before which man s flesh shrinks away. She goes about
to answer the problem of X acting out in a superior way onto another person, and explains that this
force turns that person into a thing. The force imposed onto them not only degrades them into a slave,
but eventually kills their own sense of humanity and possibly their own lives. Now drawing this back
to Fahon perspective, it could be understood that both find a problem when two forces first interact
with each other. When the two are drastically different from one another, the more advanced and
developed culture is most likely going to feel superior to the other. This then often causes the
dominant culture to treat itself as the force Weil describes, and degrades the others into things.
Additionally, Weil also stresses that this force not only destroys the one being suppressed, but also the
one using the force. She explains that force is at pitless to the man who possesses it, or thinks he does,
as it is to its victims; the second it crushes, the first it intoxicates. This description could be explained
in history when looking back onto the exercises conducted by the Nazi Party. Those who seen as being
inferior by the Nazi s were degraded into things, and eventually killed. However, Weil would also say
that the force imposed by them also caused them to turn into irrational, senseless beings. While using
the force, they lost their sense of thinking rationally, and basically in themselves too became a thing .
This again is just another problem that has shown to occur when one culture takes on the feeling of
superiority over

The World Is Too Much With Us By William Woodsworth
The World is too Much with Us by William Woodsworth (999) On a first reading, this poem seems to
lament man s withdrawal from nature. In it, the speaker declares that we are out of tune, unmoved by
the sea and winds. He goes on to say that he would rather be a Pagan, as he wishes to be part of a
culture better connected with the natural world. He views the current detachment as a result of modern
day1 man s materialism, referring to getting and spending and stating little we see in Nature that is
ours . The latter may imply that if we cannot own something we see no need to pay attention to it.
Analysis of form reveals that the poem is a Petrarchan sonnet that utilizes hyperbole, personification,

  • 2. Essay about Love in Valentine and The Flea Love in Valentine and The Flea Through a close analysis of language, structure and theme, compare and contrast the poets attitude to love in Valentine and The Flea. The poem The Flea is about a man trying to cunningly argue a woman into bed. John Donne s The Flea was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this was called a coterie, which was a group of like minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each other s amusement. This poem was written sometime in the 17th century where religion was extremely important and sex before marriage frowned upon. The poet is exploring ideas and feelings about lust and how unimportant losing virginity is, which a woman will obviously object to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is persistent in his argument and irritating, this portrays himself as a replicate of a flea, just trying to get what he wants. In the first stanza John Donne is narrating to the reader. The flea has sucked his blood and hers and he is now using this flea as an example for his argument by saying: Mark but this flea, and mark in this, How little that which thou deniest me is; He is also implying that virginity is small and insignificant. This will obviously offend the girl because virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does not seem to give up on this point. The poet uses cunning phrases such as: Thou know st that this cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead; Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security. This is a great technique to win his argument. At the end of stanza one, the poet becomes quite melodramatic: Yet this enjoys before it woo,
  • 3. And pamper d swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! is more than we would do. Donne could be implying that the flea easily has enjoyment from sucking her blood and that he himself has no pleasure from her. This might show he has an egotistical attitude towards women. Donne s use of physical language such as suck d , blood and swells implies his lustful desires and show the sensual undercurrents of the poem. At the start of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Plato s Symposium, By Plato In the book, Plato s Symposium, by Plato, who was a philosopher in Greece, he illustrates the dialectic discussion at a party at Agathon s to celebrate his triumph of his first tragedy. In the Symposium; the guests Phaedrus, an Athenian aristocrat; Pausanias, the legal expert; Eryximachus, a physician; Aristophanes, eminent comic playwright; Agathon ,a tragic poet and host of the banquet; Socrates, eminent philosopher and Plato s teacher; and Alcibiades, a prominent Athenian statesman, orator and general; discuss their own versions and viewpoints to praise the god of love. First, we have Phaedrus, who starts to say that love is the most ancient of the gods and should be praiseworthy, next we have Eryximachus who states that love affects everything in the universe and that it should be protected, next we have Aristophanes, who states that the reason why love is on earth is because god has split humanity in half and that man should fear the gods and should embrace love to feel whole again, and last we have Socrates who suggests what Diotima explains that love is in the middle of two things or objects and has both characteristics. Phaedrus starts off the conversation of love stating how the god Love doesn t get much attention in songs and that he should be praiseworthy because he has helped men to gain honor and blessedness. This begins the symposium and functions as a way to tell the reader what the topic would be about and why the guests in the party should discuss it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects Of Maltreated Children On Children The Effects on Maltreated Children In the US alone nearly 3 million children experience some form of maltreatment (Spinazzola, Hidgdon, Ford, Briggs, Liang, Layne, Pynoos, Stolbach, Kisiel, 2014 p. S19). The maltreatment of children is an issue that is happening around the world. Most people think about physical abuse being the most common form of maltreatment; however, emotional abuse accounts for 36% ( Spinazzola et al 2014 p. S19) , and emotional neglect accounts for 52% (Spinazzola et al 2014 p. S19) of identified child maltreatment cases. Most studies look at how abuse and neglect impacts children in many emotional and behavioral ways; meanwhile, nothing is changing when it comes to their recovery. Most maltreated children will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is concerning that there is little knowledge in their adaptive behavior; subsequently, if we can understand what abilities they are able to perform than a more suitable intervention can be planned. Deficits in adaptive functioning should be addressed when completing an evaluation, so that better interventions can be put in place. (Viezel, Lowell, Davis, Castillo, 2014) In the study Differential Profiles of Adaptive Behavior of Maltreated Children they compared the differences in adaptive behavior between children who were abused, neglected, and a comparison group. Children who had been abused had a lower adaptive behavior then the comparison group, but the neglected children had a moderately low range for all three domains (Viezel, Lowell, Davis, Castillo 2014 p. 577). With the findings they suggested that neglected children would have delays in coping skills, personal care skills, expressive communication, and the inability to participate in appropriate play. This is consistent with previous research that suggested; youth who were neglected experienced difficulties in social interactions, social withdrawal, and isolation (Viezel et al 2014 p. 577). Child neglect has yet to gain a lot of attention or interventions when compared to child physical abuse, this is concerning since research suggests that child neglect has significant delays to their ... • 6. Essay on Cloning It all started back in the fifties when James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA (D Souza NA). Ever since there has been talk of human and animal cloning. It all seemed out of reach and basically impossible, but in 1997 that all changed when a sheep, named Dolly, was the first ever mammal to be cloned. She was cloned for the purpose of curing disease and research on animal organs for human transplantation (Schaeffer 3). Now that scientists know that it is possible to clone literally anything with DNA, the world has become a rather scary place. This raises the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subject of animal cloning has provoked debate about the ethics of interfering with nature as well as about the danger of using laboratory means to accomplish what habitat preservation and other conservation measures cannot (Gugliotta A3). Now there is talk that they are going to start cloning animals that have been extinct from ten to thousands of years ago. Scientists are contemplating the possibility of cloning a 20,000 year old woolly mammoth from a block of ice in northern Siberia and are planning to use an elephant for it is surrogate mother (Gugliotta A3). This is just crazy, I don t think that I need to remind every one of the movie Jurassic Park. Do we want to move into a world of genetically engineered animals? I definitely do not; these animals became extinct for a reason and who are we to say that it is time for them to roam to earth again? Another type of cloning that is now being investigated is the use of biotechnology to help infertile couples have children. Even Ian Wilmut, the scientist who cloned Dolly and has come out publicly against human cloning, was not trying to help sheep have genetically related children (Thomas 47). This technique to impregnate infertile couples is basically the same that they are using on the animals. First an egg is removed from a woman and all of its genetics are then stripped. Then the cells from the donor are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Does Steinbeck Use Nature In Of Mice And Men Over the course of the novel, John Steinbeck beautifully describes nature through symbolism to help the reader understand the striking, strong story line. For example, at the beginning of the story, he gives us a description of the setting. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening, and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of coons , and with the spread pads of dogs from the ranches, and with the split wedge tracks of the deer come to drink in dark. (1) When reading this novel Steinbeck describes animals to show the characters actions. When describing the use of rabbits hiding In the brush, the reader might seem bewildered why someone needs to be so descriptive about nature in this book. It seems irrelevant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These two things stand for important attributes in human nature, hope. The day was going fast now. Only the tops of the Gabilan mountains flamed with the light that had gone from the valley. A water snake slipped along the pool, its head held up like a little periscope. (7) This relates to the characters in the novel as after Lennie and George get kicked out of Weed they looked for new opportunities. The sunshine lay in a thin line under the window. Curley s wife lays in the barn.(37) The afternoon sun sliced in through the cracks of the barn walls and lay in bright lines on the hay. (38) Even though this does not relate to any of the characters it is personification. Although There was evening brightness showing through the windows of the bunkhouse, inside it was dusk. (38) That shows how at first the ranch looked great, but Lennie and George were mistaken. Already the sun had left the valley to go climbing up the slopes of the Gabilan mountains, and the hilltops were rosy in the sun (99) This also is personification. The light climbed on out the valley, and as it went, the tops of the mountains seemed to blaze with increasing brightness. • 8. Summary Of Nathan Jergenson s The IRL Fetish In the article The IRL Fetish by Nathan Jergenson, is a powerful essay that demonstrates the idea of this so called Fetish that we have with technology today. Within this essay Jergenson uses specific word choice in his essay to strengthen his argument about being connected. He uses quotes from other speakers and writers to get his points acrossed about this fetish that we have in our society right now. Finally, Jergenson also talks about the little victories that we have with technology, like logging off , and the irrational fear that we have about being disconnected. Jergenson uses very important vocabulary in his writing of this essay. He uses terms like fetish, digital dualism, and Myopic. The title of this essay is The IRL ... We then can infer that he was talking about how some people it s easy for them to disconnect because they have such a lavish lifestyle to keep in touch with. I also agree with Jengenson argument because not everyone has a great life, sometimes social media is there escape or safe haven from the troubles and stresses of the real world. I for one have been guilty of going to the digital world when I m having a hard time in the real world. By logging on I tend to forget about what happening in the real world and flock to things that will be the complete opposite of how things are in the real world. Jengenson also makes a point about how people are proud to be logged off. And I 100% agree with him. I for one have been guilty of being proud for not using my phone, at things like the being at dinner table, holidays, and hanging out with friends and family. For the most part I do have my phone out because sometimes funny things happen to me at dinner or with the family, so it is very hard not to be tempted to catch something and share it with my friends and family on social media. One week I went to a leadership camp in the summer and to attend we had to agree to leave all technology at home, for a full week. Now I know that sounds pathetic but it ... • 9. The Role Of Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People The Stolen Generations is a term used to describe the actions of which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, mostly children, were taken away from their families between the 1890 s and the 1970 s (Korff, 2014). Children were taken to institutions or adopted by non Indigenous families and most never saw their families again. In the early 1900 s the Australian public was persuaded into believing Aboriginal children were deprived, mistreated and at risk in their own communities. People believed that Aboriginal children would receive a better education, a more loving and caring family and a more civilised upbringing if adopted by white families or government institutions. McGarry, a member of the Parliament of New South Wales, objected to the Aborigines Protection Amending Act 1915. The Act enabled the Aborigines Protection Board to remove Aboriginal children from their parents without having to establish that they were in any way neglected or mistreated (McKeich, 2006). McGarry described this policy as stealing the child away from its parents. In 1997, the Bringing Them Home report was released. The report was based on findings from the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission s National Inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families (McKeich, 2006). The enquiry found that many cases of forcible child removal occurred around the country. After the release of the report, the media began using the term The Stolen Generations to describe the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who shared their stories. The report did not refer to the term The Stolen Generations but rather referred to it as forcible removal policies (McKeich, 2006). Very few records of the children that were taken and is estimated that between 1883 and 1969 more than 6,200 children were stolen in NSW alone (Korff, 2014). • 10. The Satanic Verses, Truth And Falsity Through the violent deaths and hypocrisy, doubt in the sacred is reintroduced. Eileen Barker illustrates brainwashing as the control the religious leaders have exerted over their followers . This questions whether belief is imposed or cultivated. John Updike writes that Everything seemed still in place, yet something was immensely wrong . Highlighting the sense of doubt in postmodernist texts, one may find that some things, such as religion, cannot be explained. Faith can waver or hold steadfast, characters revisiting belief in skepticism as ideology falters. In The Satanic Verses, truth and falsity is ultimately ambiguous. Some characters are featured as wrestling with religious doubt, others like Gibreel and Saladin think over their atheism after supernatural events. Definition is resisted, borders blurred, it is questionable whether events are happening or merely figments of imagination. Gibreel asks for some sign (30) that God is present during his illness, but realizes he is talking to air. He lost his faith (29) and even after metamorphosis, it is revealed that Gibreel is schizophrenic. The metamorphosis may be invented, as Rekha says to Gibreel maybe you are going crazy (7), but he is seen by several others to levitate. • 11. Casilda In The Judge s Wife By Isabel Allende Indeed, a woman should soften but not weaken a man. This supposition exemplifies the character Casilda from The Judge s Wife short story by Isabel Allende. Although not seen by all as the main character, Casilda is the strongest and most evolutionary personality of the short story. The Judge s Wife is an exceptional tale that follows the progression of characters as they fight against their predetermined destinies and how they are viewed in others eyes. Casilda is a catalyst for the evolution of almost every character in the story. Not only does her character grow in The Judge s Wife, but she is also a medium for the growth of the two other main characters in the story. Casilda molds the personality of a majority of the characters in the story, distinctly Judge Hidalgo and Nicolas Vida. Casilda noticeably changed the character of Judge Hidalgo, into a softer man, in his field of professionalism. In a close analysis of this narrative, we find that the Judge was a very cranky bachelor who was very feared by all, in the village he lived, for his stubbornness and severe temper. We are told that, when he enforced the law, Judge Hidalgo failed to give any account of the whys and wherefores behind the indicted committing the crime. According to the author, not only did the judge refuse to apply any common sense in his judgments but was also equally harsh in his condemnation of the theft of a chicken as of premeditated murder (Allende 284). Across the village, not a single person was safe from his cruelty. However, the judge changed, significantly after he married Casilda. All this came to reality when the priest and a group of Catholic women approached Casilda to plead for the life of Juana the Forlorn, a poor old woman who was subjected to torture for the reason that she made an effort to capture her son. Casalda heeded to their requests and set forth for the town, with a bottle of fresh water and a basket of food, taking her children dressed in their Sunday best. In spite of the soldiers struggles to keep her away, the cries of her children crossed the years of Judge Hidalgo. This made him realize the mistakes he had been making prompting him, Judge Hidalgo, to come down in person and unlock the cage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Essay about Medieval Warfare The Medieval period was a time of noblemen who fought for love, honor, and country under a code of chivalry. Chivalry comes from the French word cheval, chivalry means someone who fights from horseback. The term also meant knighthood .(Matthews, Platt, Thomas p.234 235). In this period the nobility used war as a way to show their power and hold their status by being professional soldiers. There were also lots of soldiers from the lower classes who were led into battle under nobles. These soldiers fought for the nobleman to maintain their safety and land. Among these weapons were trebuchets which were throwing machines and springalds which would launch large projectiles at fortified walls (Prestwich p. 287) . Now that we know what weapons were being used, it is time to look at the tactics that were involved. The archers, foot soldiers, and cavalry all had to work together in order to make the battle go right. The army would be broken down into three formations of which cavalry, foot soldiers, and archers were separated to attack at different times (Verbruggen p.209) . Each of these ranks of soldiers have their own job in the battle. The archers would usually start the battle and try to cause a break in the enemy s infantry formation. Once there was a break in formation the infantry men would attack the lines of the enemy until the breaks in formation got larger. Finally the cavalry men would come in on horses and wreak havoc on the enemy s infantry. The battle must be fought like this because if the infantry was to advance first they would meet the other infantry, and if the archers then fired they would be more likely to injure their own troops. Or if the Cavalry was to charge first they would be met by the opposing infantry s poleaxes and Halberds, thus killing their horses. A silent film is that which consists of only the picture, and no sound. This was an era of truly transformative filmmaking, forcing writers and producers to have to step out of a comfort zone in order to allow purely visual expressions to touch their audiences and convey their stories. This was achieved through a greater emphasis on facial expressions and body language. Firstly, one of the greatest movies in the silent era was that by Keaton, Sherlock Jr. This film encompasses all the core principles of telling a story through silence and overcoming the cinematic boundaries of its day. The key to achieving this is through the direct expressiveness of the body language of the actors alongside the plot and how Keaton specifically selected the scenes. The film begins with a love story between a wealthy girl (Kathryn McGuire) and a projectionist at a local movie theatre. His dream to become a detective is what drives the film. A memorable scene in the movie is that in the candy shop when Keaton goes to buy the chocolates for the girl. This was performed entirely in pantomime, allowing the audience to get in touch with the film, and comprehend his desperation to woo the girl. He shadows Crane, who is larger in size than he is, mimicking his body language and gestures. This was done using a tracking shot. Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire both seem to be founded and perspired due to some type of water system helping them. Ancient Greece used the Mediterranean Seas new channels for trade. • 30. Comparison Of Aristotle And Aquinas And The Highest Good Comparison of Aristotle and Aquinas and the highest good Both Aristotle and Aquinas were prominent philosophers who wrote profound works that discussed the concept of a highest human good. They also included their own terms of achieving aforesaid good. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, the highest good is a state of constant seeking as a way of achieving full capacity as a human. The writings of Aquinas have some similarities to the writings of Aristotle, however, in Treatise on Law, he discusses the type and elements of law and allowed the role of God to influence his ideas. His analysis of law ultimately names the highest human good as being in the perfect community with God. Aquinas s argument supports obedience to law, preexisting inclinations for the good, and a resolution. Aristotle requires that the person constantly seek to know and be at work, which can act as a positive force that drives humans to improve themselves. In Book One of the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle argues for an ultimate end, and that knowledge of the good should be influential and important to all human life. He explains that it is better to act aimed at the good of the whole, meaning society, and transcend the level of individual preservation (1094b5 1094b10). Aquinas created a hierarchy of rules to follow when acting in the name of the good. There is a specific order of the precepts of natural law. The lowest inclination affects all substances and is the desire to preserve the self. Next, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Perpetual Peace: A Philosophical Sketch, Kant explains the necessities required within a society that could bring about a form of perpetual peace. In doing so, Kant s argument mostly focused on the avoidance of war, and keeping peace within the states. Although he envisioned the possibility of this peace occurring within a society, I argue that his notion of perpetual peace actually happening is inevitable. Of course, there are countless ways of approaching the argument against Kant. Therefore, by using the writings of Fahon and Weil, the argument could be shown with the support of both ... She goes about to answer the problem of X acting out in a superior way onto another person, and explains that this force turns that person into a thing. The force imposed onto them not only degrades them into a slave, but eventually kills their own sense of humanity and possibly their own lives. Now drawing this back to Fahon perspective, it could be understood that both find a problem when two forces first interact with each other. When the two are drastically different from one another, the more advanced and developed culture is most likely going to feel superior to the other. This then often causes the dominant culture to treat itself as the force Weil describes, and degrades the others into things. Additionally, Weil also stresses that this force not only destroys the one being suppressed, but also the one using the force. She explains that force is at pitless to the man who possesses it, or thinks he does, as it is to its victims; the second it crushes, the first it intoxicates. This description could be explained in history when looking back onto the exercises conducted by the Nazi Party. Those who seen as being inferior by the Nazi s were degraded into things, and eventually killed. However, Weil would also say that the force imposed by them also caused them to turn into irrational, senseless beings. While using the force, they lost their sense of thinking rationally, and basically in themselves too became a thing . This again is just another problem that has shown to occur when one culture takes on the feeling of superiority over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In it, the speaker declares that we are out of tune, unmoved by the sea and winds. He goes on to say that he would rather be a Pagan, as he wishes to be part of a culture better connected with the natural world. He views the current detachment as a result of modern day1 man s materialism, referring to getting and spending and stating little we see in Nature that is ours . The latter may imply that if we cannot own something we see no need to pay attention to it.
