Overcoming Fears In William Sleater s The Elevator
Everyone has fears, some can get over them and some cannot. When I was small I was afraid of
heights, but my uncle helped me get over that phobia. Martin also has fears but has not gotten over
them. William Sleater the author of The Elevator made Martin to where he could not overcome his
fears. William Sleater shows us Martins lack of ability to get over his fears by building suspense
through Martins thoughts and actions, which are all efforts to avoid those fears, because Martin is
claustrophobic of the elevator, paranoid by the fat lady, and intimidated by his dad. One of Martins
phobias is the elevator. He cannot stand the elevator so he tries the stairs and he does not like those
either. Of course he was always uncomfortable in elevators, afraid that they would fall, but there was
something especially unpleasant about this one (sentence 4). He felt so uncomfortable even if there
was another person in there with him.He also tried the stairs, but he was afraid of them as much as he
was afraid of the elevator. He remained tense in the trembling little box, his eyes fixed on the numbers
over the door that blinked on and off so haltingly, as if at any moment they might simply give up
(sentence 27). Martin did not like the atmosphere of the elevator, and he still has not gotten used to it.

She is a weird lady that Martin does not understand. She was still watching him. He wanted to turn
around and stare into the corner, but how could he (sentence 57). He did not feel comfortable with
people staring and Martin thought that people were not supposed to make eye contact in an elevator,
and that is what she was doing. It wasn t possible. It was like a nightmare, but there she was massively
real. Going up! he said, his voice a humiliating squeak (sentence 90). When Martin asked her if she

Ncaa Ethics And Compliance Program
Case Study 2: NCAA Ethics and Compliance Program

Ethics and Advocacy for HR Pro / HRM 522
November 14, 2016
Dr. Leslie Wills
Abstract
A few years ago, there was much discussion relating to the National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA) and those units responsible for instituting student athlete and athletic department policy. This
purpose of this paper is to discuss the ethical misconduct that occurred at Penn State, Ohio State and
the University of Arkansas, and how the NCAA played a role in the wrongdoing. Coaches, players,
and administrators face mounting pressures brought on by the need to sell seats and win games. In
response, this type of pressure creates opportunities for offenses to take place. The first component of
the paper will be to determine the fundamental ways in which the ethics programs of the NCAA failed
to prevent the scandals at Penn State, Ohio State, and the University of Arkansas. Once those
measures are identified and discussed, the ways the NCAA leadership contributed to the ethical
violations of these schools will be discussed. The next element of the paper will predict the key
differences in the scandals that occurred at each school if an effective ethics program was
implemented. Next, the paper will suggest actions that the NCAA leadership should take to regain the
trust and confidence of the students and stakeholders. The last section will identify measures that HR

Witchcraft and Great Powers
In early modern Europe witchcraft was considered a crime due to people of this time period being
very superstitious. During this time period Witchcraft lead to the invention of such things as Devils
and monsters. The bubonic plague and crimes of Heresy lead to many deaths and therefore the
ideology that developed was it was the work of Witchcraft. It will be established during this essay the
reasons why the use and practice of Witchcraft was deemed to be a crime.
The most favourable belief during early modern Europe was that that women were more susceptible to
becoming Witches then a male would be. The main reason for this being that Eve was fell pray to the
serpent s temptation in the Garden of Eden and becoming the morally corrupted. ... Show more

Ginzburg states that many Jews acts of violence carried out against them until they handed them
selves in and reported that they were the ones who had started and spread the Bubonic plague. As a
result of this they were seen to confess to spreading this by using their powers to poison the water and
air. Jews were condemned in the same ways as witches and therefore were burnt at the stake; this was
seen to be the most favoured punishment for crimes of witchery.
During this time period of early modern Europe many religious and scholarly men had combined the
effects of the plague with witchcraft. This said to have occurred because witches had used there
powers to poison people through the water and air and they would state that once people are infected
by these spells that they would die within three to four days.
Due to many Jews and women being of lower class in this time period it was also a belief that because
they were unclean they helped spread the plague rapidly. Due to many women of this time during such
jobs and Midwives and developing herb to heal their family this gave way to women being labeled
witches. This view was prevalent throughout Scotland and as a result many were tried and convicted
of witchcraft.Between 1550 to early 1700 s witch hunts I Scotland developed the theory that witches
were nearly always female and that as a result these attacks were not against the female gender as
such. They

To Kill A Mockingbird Mood Analysis
At times in life, you go through many things that you never knew you would have to experience. You
usually don t know what it feels like to do something until you actually do it. In the book, To Kill a
Mockingbird , Scout is a little girl growing up in an environment filled with cruelty. This is because of
how colored people were treated. Also, she would see how other people were like but she didn t truly
understand what it is like to be those people. Than she learns that you don t know something until you
re in it s place. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird , you can find many literary elements. Some of
them are the setting, characters, and mood.
In like manner, setting is an literary element that you can find in the scene that Scout discovers that
you don t truly know a person until you stand in their shoes and walk around in them. The setting is
important because it can tell us a little bit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mood contributes to the book because at some point in the book, it can be such a happy moment but
than it can just turn into a sad moment. This is something that colored people faced a lot back in those
days and even in the book. For example, on chapter 25, it saids A crowd of black children were
playing marbles in Tom s front yard. A little girl grinned ear to ear. Sam was trotting behind his
mother when they came up. Dill said Helen said, evenin , Mr. Finch, won t you have a seat? But se
didn t say any more. Neither did Atticus. Scout said Dill, she just fell down in the dirt, Just fell down
in the dirt, like a giant with a nig foot just came along and stepped on her .This shows us that it was
just a normal day for Tom s family. The kids were playing and the family was together. They may
have had worries over Tom but they were happy until Atticus gave them the news. This was about
Tom being dead. That is when the whole mood of the story just changes from being normal to a dark

The New Orleans Conceived Craftsman
It s four years since Frank Ocean s last collection, Channel Orange, and 13 months since he
guaranteed the postliminary, Boys Don t Cry, would be discharged.
In a time when numerous significant specialists are productive , for example, Drake or universal
Rihanna, Beyoncé the New Orleans conceived craftsman has taken as much time as is needed and
stayed under the radar. Past a modest bunch of visitor vocal appearances, an a capella track on Kanye
West s The Life of Pablo, a two minute representation of tune called Memrise and an appearance in a
Calvin Klein advertisement, next to no has been seen or gotten notification from Ocean.
The anticipation was broken on 1 August, when baffling footage purportedly recorded in 2015 showed
up on the site boysdontcry.co. For about 48 hours, a camera was settled on a highly contrasting CCTV
like setup that demonstrated within a void stockroom and a line of apparatus. We saw a substantial
heap of speakers, potentially taken from an establishment by the craftsman and companion of Ocean
Tom Sachs, that is as of now being appeared at Brooklyn Museum in New York. On occasion, a figure
later uncovered to be Ocean would arrive and begin to cut, bore and sand boards of wood. These
pictures would circle, and once in a while new camera points were presented. Yet, once the viewer
acknowledged there was no peak or plot turn to come unless you consider the minute when he quickly
checked his telephone a true to life highlight

1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Model: Consider a periodic railway operations system that follows a schedule, in nominal
operation mode, assume that all the trains follow a pre scheduled route, with a fixed train order and
predefined connections. If for any of the reasons mentioned before delays are introduced in the
network, it might be advantageous to change the train order so as to minimize the delays.
1.2 Requirements Specification:
 In this project my main goal is to control the train accidents and also developed a system for trains
which allows minimum and maximum waiting times.
 The division head has control and timings by using the map.
 It also make the count of no. of trains entered into the station as well as individual platform.
 Train active status is also developed by selecting the associate train number and the motion also
developed.

World War I War Strategies Compared to World War II War Strategies The strategies, weaponry, and
war tactics used in World War I and World War II differ in many ways. World War I took place from
1914 1918 and World War II took place from 1939 1945. These two wars were the biggest conflicts in
all of military history. The wars share a great impact on our country today. The two wars both took
place between different countries and alliances. The alliances were divided into two groups. The first
group of the world s warring nations in World War I was called the Central Powers which included the
countries of Germany, Austria Hungry, Turkey, and Bulgaria. The second group was called the Allied

Sisterhood Is Complicaated Summary
Critical Analysis of Sisterhood is Complicated by Ruth Padawer In her essay, Sisterhood is
Complicated , Ruth Padawer illustrates complications and triumphs women and transgenders
experience while living in the same society. Padawer goes into detail about how the women feel
towards the transgenders and how the transgenders feel being in a college centered around women.
Often throughout the essay, she talks about how women make up Wellesley College who want to have
the greatest power and strength, by defying social norms and creating their own place to learn. This
has been the motto of the college since its beginning, but now, there are transgenders who are entering
the college as women, just to gain entry into this environment. Although it seems as if there wouldn t
be a huge problem with this, it does go against the mandates created by the college. In this essay.
Padawer explains these topics in a certain way, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the essay, she gives many examples that describe how women and transgender students
feel, however, too often they become repetitive. There are many stories that come from personal
accounts of students, but they tend to mix together. There are multiple examples that take away from
the essay by making it hard to follow. To fix this problem, Padawer could give accounts from different
people in the college, such as, how the President of the college feels or even get some opinions from
the alumnus of the college. By doing so, this would break up the essay more and add varied types of
examples. With that being said, it is also important for her to include some data or statistics that help
the reader understand this essay on a deeper level. Statistics tend to help readers get a better
understanding of how this issue affects people . By doing these things, Padawer would be able to keep
the reader s attention and keep the essay more

Benefits Of Mao Zedong
As a result of the civil war in 1927 to 1950, the Communist Party gained political control over China
and defeated the opposing Nationalist Party. This essay will examine and analyze the benefits of Mao
Zedong s leadership of the Communist Party throughout the civil war, such as his influence over the
military and the Chinese people. There is no doubt, however, that other factors such as the opposing
Nationalists corruption, military tactics and relationship with the people all played an even greater role
in ensuring the victory of the Communist Party. It will be argued that while the leadership of Mao
Zedong was a large part of the Communist Party s victory, the failures of Chiang Kaishek s leadership
were crucial to the success of the Communists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their capabilities of being honest and efficient proved to be wrong, and trust in the Nationalists
success began to crack. After losing half a million troops in Manchuria, and another one and a half
million surrendered or lost, the PLA began to make their way into China, and the defeat of the
government was inevitable. They had lost the confidence of its own troops and its own people .5
Chiang s military mistakes, corruption and incompetence fed the evaporation of the Nationalists
civilian support, and the treatment of the local people was terrible. He refused to undertake land
reforms, and was unable to establish a currency, Chiang Kaishek s government had also morphed from
being a government of the people, to a government of the middle and higher class. He drew support
from the landlords and merchants, and depended on the tax revenue and donations from the small
influential class. This led to money extortion, and corruption.6 The economy also dropped in areas of
China and prices rose, ruining the Chinese middle class. Despite the Nationalist Party still looking

Equine-Assited Therapy
The Helsinki Olympics, 1952. Liz Hartel won a silver medal in equestrian sports and told the world
how riding had helped her recover from polio ( History ). Therapeutic riding is a term that has been
used to encompass the variety of equine activities for individuals with disabilities, but the correct
terminology for utilizing the movement of the horse as a treatment strategy to improve neuromuscular
function is hippotherapy, meaning treatment with the help of the horse from the Greek word, hippos ,
meaning horse ( Hippotherapy ). Equine assisted therapy is a positive and successful form of therapy
for individuals with disabilities because it boosts confidence and allows for improvement in physical
and occupational capabilities. Studies show that hippotherapy has proven to be beneficial for
individuals with a variety of disabilities. Learning to master the horse increases the rider s self esteem
and confidence. Interacting with and controlling the horse enhances focus, decision making skills, and
effective verbal and nonverbal communication ( Why the Horse? ). Riders may become very satisfied
and self confident after successfully completing a task set by the instructor of the hippotherapy
session. This feeling of confidence improves the rider s overall mood and makes them enjoy
horseback riding even more. During a hippotherapy session, individuals work to improve their
physical capabilities. While walking, the horse s body position changes periodically, allowing

The Plague Of The Bubonic Plague
The Bubonic Plague killed over twenty five million people during the Elizabethan Era (David Perlin,
PhD and Ann Cohen). The origins of the Black Death can be traced back to the Gobi Desert of
Mongolia in the 1320 s (Ed. Geoffrey J. et al). The Bubonic Plague has picked up many nicknames.
For example, it has been called The Black Death, and one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse (Ed.
Geoffrey J. et al). The Bubonic Plague was very prominent during its time with many people s lives
being affected by the treatments, preventions, and twisted theories that occurred.
The reason why the Bubonic Plague was called the Black Death is because of the black patches on the
victim s skin, hence The Black Plague. The symptoms of the Black Death started as just being
uncomfortable. First, it began with a headache, fever, severe pain in the joints, and chills. Next, it
became more severe and the victim will suffer from painful swelling in the neck, arms, and inner
thighs until they begin to ooze blood and pus. Finally, the victim would end up dying (The Medieval
Combat Society). Some important people affected by the Plague were Shakespeare s son (The
Children of William Shakespeare), Hamnet and King Edward III of England s daughter, Joan
(Plantagenet). Hamnet was one of three children, and the twin of his sister, Judith. Sadly, he died at the
age of eleven with a severe case of the Bubonic Plague (The Children of William Shakespeare).

Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novella written by...
Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novella written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez taking place in
twentieth century Colombia. Marquez recalls the events of a murder twenty years in the past. The
victim, who is named Santiago Nasar in the novella, faces prosecution from his twin friends because
the twins sister states Santiago took her virginity. As honor was greatly valued in the Colombian
society at the time, their worldview led to the requirement for their family s honor to be restored by
killing Santiago. The result is an impending murder that almost everyone, except for a small group
including Santiago himself, knew about. The result is Santiago s death as he never knew what was
coming.
Aristotle s concept of a tragedy consists of plot, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience is introduced with Santiago s background. Following the beginning of the tragedy,
Angela Vicario, the bride of a rich and honorable man, had a conflict with her new husband regarding
her virginity. To resolve her issue, she places the blame for her lost virginity on for this issue on
Santiago Nasar. [Clotilde] was certain that the Vicario brothers were not as eager to carry out the
sentence as to find someone who would do them the favor of stopping them (Marquez 57). This leads
to the start of Santiago s downfall as the twins now are determined to restore their family s honor by
murdering Santiago Nasar, which also brings more issues as the twins and Santiago are friends since
their childhood. The ending of the tragedy would be the actual murder of Santiago as it brings an end
to his life and leaves a tragic finish to the plot. All together, these three sections would fulfill the role
of a tragic plot and allows Chronicle of a Death Foretold to be considered a tragedy itself as defined
by Aristotle. Next, a Greek tragedy must contain characters that provide moral lessons to the audience
and must be true to life, or be realistic where they can be related to people. In Chronicle of a Death
Foretold, there is a multitude of characters that give moral lessons in one way or another. For example,
Angela Vicario teaches a basic lesson regarding truth and the power of words. It is most likely that

Organization s Value Chain Analysis
Value Chain analysis evaluates each step business goes through from inception to finality. The goal is
to maximize the value for the total cost. Costco s mission is to provide their members with quality
goods and services at the lowest possible prices. The company s mission, values and strategies suggest
Costco uses a broad enterprise strategy which fits in the societal framework. To ensure employee
motivation, Costco offers them a unique banquet of benefits. This include; paying health benefits for
them, 50% higher wage, employee retention of over 90 percent, and maintaining employees even
during recession periods (Costco, 2010). The Company s strength is its primary value chains which
split into two distinct functions: Demand fulfilment and Demand generation. Demand fulfilment
includes input logistics, operations, and output logistics. Demand generation involves sales,
marketing, and service department which breaks down into sub tiers. Costco s support activities
include HRM, technology development, firm infrastructure and procurement. Costco s weaknesses are
difficult to pinpoint; one weakness is persistent low operating profit margins. Bigger profits can occur
by not paying employee benefits and with demanding higher returns from their suppliers. The problem
would be at what cost? Costco receives cost advantages from value adding major (brand items)
activities. However, it continues to experience a challenge

The Soap Opera, House Of Anubis
When I was in the third grade I was extremely obsessed with the Nickelodeon soap opera, House of
Anubis. If you ve never heard of it before, it was centered around an American teengaer in a British
boarding school where the faculty was involved in some strange cult obsessed with Egyptian
mythology and The Chosen One. On top of that there was four love triangles, child kidnapping, carrot
eating competitions, masquerade balls, a disturbing amount of taxidermy, and a crapload of other
random things. Yeah, that existed. Because I was so obsessed with ... that, every day for two years I

Parenthesis In Virginia Woolf
Now, when the reader wants to know more about what Jacob does in his room, the author introduces
the other characters at Cambridge, like Professor Huxtable, Sopwith, and Erasmus Cowman
consequently. Since the sequence of events in inner life is not logical, and even thoughts themselves
are sporadic, random and inconclusive, the action is presented in fragments. The move or break in the
narration makes it fragmentary, and it creates a kind of difficulty to maintain the harmony of the
incidents. The entire novel is set in a form where there is never any concrete explanation of what is
happening and why is happening. Rather, it is left on reader to find the link between the scattered
events. Parenthesis: Virginia Woolf makes use of parenthesis in her writing for the different purposes.
Sometimes it represents a shift in characters thought, and sometimes it is used for remarks by the
author or sometimes it is used to give certain facts about a character. She utilizes parentheses to set the

Elie Wiesel Diary Entries
Hello. It s been seventy years since we met, and here we are: still alive. I was ten years old, an
emaciated little girl with ragged hair. You were a soldier, and you saved me. Had I remained in the
concentration camp any longer, I would have died. Although I was there just a few months (having
been discovered a short time before the war ended), my entire family my mother, father, and sister
managed to perish in the flames of the crematorium. But when you stood inside the barbed wire with
me, carrying the flag that bears freedom, I knew I could not burn with them. I only survived because
you liberated me. Even though I came to America shortly after, I did not think I would be able to find
you... but seventy years later, I have. Now that I have found you, I just want to know a few things.
How did you feel when you discovered my camp? You may not have known about them previously
(since these camps were secrets to the world), so it may have shocked you. What did you think of gas
chambers, the crematoria, and the mass pits full of deceased Jews? I still remember them; their
memory bothers me no longer, though. I have not healed... one does not heal after seeing those things.

You and your fellow soldiers pitied us Jews, and we were rarely fed, so you must have known that too

Naga Mandali In Naga-Mandala
In Naga Mandala,Karnad has borrowed the main plot of the story of Rani from The Serpent Lover
which he had heard long ago from Professor A.K. Ramnujan (1992 1993). This tale was later collected
in A Flowering Tree and other Oral Tales from India, Published posthumously in 1997. The deviation
made in the play from original the folk tale can be traced thus:
Rani in the play is depicted as a young and beautiful girl, whereas in the folk tale Kamakshi is a girl
who is very patient. In the play the old lady named as Kurudavva, who is blind, offers two pieces of
magical roots to Rani. She pays a visit to Rani s house by taking the help of her son, whereas the old
woman of the folk tale lives next to Rani s house and is not described as a blind woman. In the
original tale, Kamakshi is not much concerned about her husband going to a concubine, she leaves
everything on the will of God. She says, let them be happy with anyone he wants , so long he accepts
her as his wife. In the play Rani feel like Kamakshi only when the magical potion turns red.
There is another major change in the play: In the play the snake only comes at night through the
bathroom drainage. This adds horror in the mind of the spectator, whereas in the myth the snake
approaches directly from the front door of Kamakshi s house by transforming himself as her husband
with exactly the same voice and physical appearance. It is also noticed that the pregnancy of
Kamakshi is first observed and

Symptoms And Treatment Of Urinary Tract Infection
Pyelonephritis is the inflammation of the kidney that is mostly caused by a bacterial infection, which
leads to scarring of the kidney. It is a form of a urinary tract infection (UTI) one instance may lead to
substantial renal damage, kidney failure, abscess formation, sepsis, septic shock, and the failure of
multiple organs. The infection typically begins in the urethra or bladder and travels up into the
kidneys, where it could potentially harm the organs and even the life of the infected individual.
Although bacteria usually reach the kidney by rising from the lower urinary tract, it may also reach the
kidney through the bloodstream.
The incidence of pyelonephritis is approximately 12 13 cases yearly per 10,000 people in females ...

The fever is not always evident, but when it there is present, the infected individual s temperature can
exceed 103°F (39.4°C). Nausea and/or vomiting differ in terms of frequency and intensity, and can
range from nonexistent to severe. In fact, it is not uncommon for patients with pyelonephritis to
experience anorexia.
Signs of acute pyelonephritis typically develop over hours or over the duration of a day, but may not
occur simultaneously. The infection is considered complicated until confirmed otherwise if either of
these criteria are met:
Patient is male
Elderly
A child, or
Patient has had symptoms for more than 7 days
Antibiotic therapy is critical in the management of acute pyelonephritis and stops the progression of
infection. Urine culture and subsequent sensitivity testing should always be done, and empirical
treatment should be customized to the infecting uropathogen.

The machine uses different wavelengths of infrared light which is passed through the sample and the
amount of light that is able to pass through is recorded by a detector on the opposite side of the light

Disneyland Paris ( Formerly Euro Disney )
Disneyland Paris (formerly Euro Disney)
While Tokyo Disneyland is considered a great success, the Walt Disney Company s next international
theme park venture, Euro Disney, is quite the opposite. In the 1980 s with the great success of Tokyo
Disneyland, TWDC entertained the idea of building another international theme park. The Walt
Disney Company knew they wanted to build a park in Europe but needed to find a place where they
could build their own reality free from the sights and sounds of the real world. The Walt Disney
Company chose Marne la Vallee in France over 200 other sites in Europe because of the willingness of

Four years later, the theme park finally saw a record breaking year where 11.7 million guests visited
(Guyot, 2001). In more recent years, the number of guests visiting the theme park seems to be
dropping. In 2015, park attendance at the theme park dropped 4.5% according to a Global Attractions
Attendance report (Lockett, 2015). In its 2016 annual report, the Walt Disney Company stated that
Disneyland Paris saw park attendance decrease in 2016 (p.26). Low attendances numbers for the
theme park has led to a lot of financial issues over the years for the theme park in Paris.
By deciding to build the entire resort at once, the Walt Disney Company assumed a lot of debt. During
the first two years of operation, Euro Disney s park attendance and hotel occupation were below what
the Disney Company had estimated. According to Gumbel and Turner (1994) in a Wall Street Journal
article, as of Dec. 31, Euro Disney, which opened in April of 1992, had a cumulative loss of 6.04
billion francs or $1.03 billion (p. A1). Euro Disney was struggling financially and something had to be
done to save the park. The Walt Disney Company CEO at the time, Michael Eisner, negotiated a deal
with the banks helping to finance the project in France and in the US to restructure the debt of the park
in order to save it from closing down. This deal included the Walt Disney Company agreeing to have a

Why A Penny Is The United States Government Should...
Say Goodbye to the Penny There is a good chance that when an item is purchased, change will be
given back. It is also very likely that the change included multiple pennies. These pennies will then
proceed to be left in a pocket and forgotten, never to be used again because their purchasing power is
non existent. The United States government should discontinue the manufacturing of pennies. Pennies
do not serve the primary role of currency anymore. Also, pennies are uneconomical to produce and
waste taxpayers money by lining the pockets of corporations. Lastly, many other countries have
discontinued the production of their cent pieces with no negative impact. To understand why a penny
does not fulfill its role as currency anymore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the use of fiat currency, many governments backed the value of the currency with
gold. For a while, thirty five United States Dollars could be traded for 1 Troy ounce of gold at a bank.
Today however, the USD is no longer backed by gold. Most money today is just worthless paper , and
if the government endorsing that money fails, it turns that currency into useless paper. (This is causes
hyperinflation and recently happened to the Zimbabwean dollar.)
All of this ties back into the original problem with pennies. Fiat currency cannot itself be worth more
than the value it is given. It would make absolutely no sense to take a dollar worth of gold and make it
into a 50 cent coin. If this was done, people would just use the coin as gold, not the 50 cent piece it
was supposed to be. When the material fiat money is made out of is worth more than the government
proclaimed value, the purpose of that currency has failed and it has turned back into commodity
currency. A penny currently costs 1.8 cents to make. That 1.8 cent chuck of metal is then assigned a
value of 1 cent. It is unthinkable to lose .8 cents for every penny manufactured. This is just like the
aforementioned example where a dollar worth of gold was made into a 50 cent coin. When quarters
and dimes used to be made out of silver, and the price of silver started to rise, the silver content in
coins was reduced so

leaving ones home and following a new path. Colm Toibin and Jason Brown both use imagery to show
how lost one feels when searching for home. Eilis s relationship with home shifts and changes as she
struggles to come to terms with the consequences of living in two places both mentally and physically.
She loves her small home town of Enniscorthy, but she doesn t quite fit in with the atmosphere and the

This enabled numerous me too drugs to achieve satisfactory returns on investment. Imitating a known
drug reduced R D risk considerably, while the marketplace was open to products offering minor
advantages such as a more convenient dosage with fewer side effects, but with much the same
therapeutic outcome. Generics legislation had a major impact on the industry, providing incentives for
innovation and a race to market. The time during which R D costs could be recouped was drastically
curtailed, putting upward pressure on prices. By the end of the 1970s generic entrants and more
stringent controls on clinical trials had led to substantial increases in R D spending.
There were two important developments in the 1970s which further shaped the industry in the form
that we see today. Firstly, the Thalidomide tragedy (where an antiemetic given for morning sickness
caused birth defects) led to much tighter regulatory controls on clinical trials, greatly increasing
development costs. Secondly, enactment of legislation to set a fixed period on patent protection
(typically 20 years from initial filing as a research discovery) led to the appearance of generic
medicines. Generics medicines are those that have exactly the same active ingredients as the original
brand, and compete on price.
Another important feature of the pharmaceutical industry was the fact in that in many countries it was

Identity in the Poetry of Langston Hughes
Search for Identity in the Poetry of Langston Hughes
In exploring the problem of identity in Black literature we find no simple or definite explanation.
Nevertheless, it is generally accepted that it is rooted in the reality of the discriminatory social system
in America with its historic origins in the institution of slavery. One can discern that this slavery
system imposes a double burden on the Negro through severe social and economic inequalities and
through the heavy psychological consequences suffered by the Negro who is forced to play an inferior
role, 1 the latter relates to the low self estimate, feeling of helplessness and basic identity conflict.

But they were persons who were trying to uphold the race. Another poem Freedom Train celebrates a
long struggle of the Afro Americans. It is a dream which has not come true and will not come true for

Uprooted from the natural environment of Africa, the Negro in America feels suffocated for lack of
freedom, joy and happiness. The Negro soul so deep and ancient is still conscious of his heritage and
strength. The poet inspired of American experience of the race seeks unity, community and identity,
remote in history and beyond the frontiers of America.
Langston Hughes became a votary of freedom for the blacks as the black people in America were
deprived of their political, economic and social rights. His central concern was the concern of the
black Americans, their struggle for freedom from the tyranny of the whites. It is quite natural for a
man to feel attached to his people, to care for their freedom and to make them equal to other human
beings, as freedom and equality are the primary necessities of life. He is of the belief that the African
identity is fundamental to the Afro Americans; that the pride of ancestry, dreams to rebuild a powerful
African image is necessary for the survival of the community in America. According to Langston

The True Face of Lowbrow Humor Essay
Following Chaucer s description of the Miller in the General Prologue, The Miller s Tale reveals a
man who is more complex than his appearance initially suggests. The Miller s Tale is a fabliau that
consists of events of cuckoldry, foolishness, and secrets (1720, 1718, and 1719). Given the bawdy
humor of his story, the Miller would seem to be crude and superficial. As the tale unfolds, it depicts
how the norms of society trap John s wife, Alison, in her marriage. Despite his fondness for vulgarity
and fraudulence, the Miller is surprisingly sympathetic toward Alison. In his attempt to outdo the
Knight, the Miller sacrifices decorum for the sake of entertainment, demonstrating his coarse and
rebellious nature. The Miller s bawdy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, the Miller s characters use guile as frequently as the Miller does. In their affair, both
Nicholas and Alison devise a plan to trick the jealous John. While speaking to John alone, Nicholas
warns him of a flood to come and states he must not waste words on the wise; however, Nicholas
tricks the so called wise carpenter and has intercourse with John s wife after John falls asleep (1727).
Furthermore, Absolom begs for a kiss from Alison, but she beard[s] him, another instance of bawdy
deceit (1730). Thus, the disposition toward treachery that Chaucer notes is evident in the Miller s
characters as they trick multiple people, actions which exemplify the Miller s immoral nature.
Although the Miller is a coarse and deceptive individual, he reveals a sympathetic nature in his tacit
approval of Alison s actions. Chaucer depicts the Miller as a big beefed yokel, who can break a door
by running at it with his head (1712). Because of these physical characteristics, most readers would
assume that he is a strong, dense, and churlish man. However, reflecting on Cato s words that man
should marry his like, the Miller notes that Alison is trapped in her marriage to a man older than she,
an insight that shows not only his empathy but also his intelligence (1720). Moreover, the Miller
portrays each man in a negative light throughout the tale but not Alison: he describes the

Information Driven Technique For Extortion
Misrepresentation, waste, and manhandle in the social insurance framework are evaluated at $700
billion yearly. Prescient investigation offers government and private payers the chance to recognize
and avoid or recoup such billings. This paper proposes an information driven technique for extortion
location taking into account similar examination, misrepresentat ion cases, and writing survey.
Unsupervised information mining procedures for example, anomaly discovery are recommended as
compelling indicators for extortion. In view of a multi dimensional information model produced for
Medicaid claim information, particular measurements for dental suppliers were created and assessed
in investigative examinations utilizing exception identification connected to claim, supplier, and
patient information in a state Medicaid program. The proposed strategy empowered effective
recognizable proof of fake action, with 12 of the main 17 suspicious suppliers (71%) alluded to
authorities for examination with obviously strange and unseemly action. Future examination is in
progress to extend the strategy to different strengths and empower its utilization by extortion experts.

address a change in condition of real property brought by a current tenant that damages or destroys the
value of that property.
The disposal of solid waste is a problem. This problem continues to grow with the growth of
population and development of industries. Disposal of waste in open pits has become routine in
majority of places.
Solid waste generation is an unavoidable consequence of production and consumption activities in any
economy. It is positively related to the level of income and urbanization, with higher income and more
urbanized economies generating higher levels of solid wastes per capita. Metropolitan cities in
developing countries are usually surrounded with solid waste management related problems such as
flooding, uncollected garbage and inadequate or inappropriate disposal sites.
Based on the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) study, only about 73% of the 5,250 metric
tons of waste generated daily are collected by 2000 dump trucks hired by our respective local
government units. The remaining 27% of our daily waste or about 1,417.5 metric tons end up in
canals, vacant spaces, street corners, market places, rivers

The Tiananmen Square Protests Of 1989
Colin Mok Did the Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989 Lead to More Democracy in China? The
Tiananmen Square Protests, otherwise known as the June Fourth incident, was a series of student led
protests and demonstrations in Beijing, China during the spring of 1989. The protests were driven by
goals to eliminate corruption within the Communist Party and promote democratic ideals such as
freedom of speech, freedom of press and social equality. At the height of the protest from June 3 4,
hundreds of thousands of students gathered around Tiananmen Square to protest, prompting military
mobilization and resulting in unprecedented bloodshed. Though deemed by the Chinese government
as a counter revolutionary act, the Tiananmen Square Protest remains an important event in shaping
the political and social state of China today. Not only was the the protest instrumental in exposing the
deep division within China s political leadership, it also revealed that the future of China, comprised
of students and intellectuals, was striving for a more democratic nation. With that being said, a highly
debated question remains as to whether the Tiananmen Square Protest has led to more democracy in
China, and how the event has influenced China s political progress. On the contrary, the protest had a
rather paradoxical impact on China s regime. Rather than ending the rigid regime in place and
bringing rise to democracy, Tiananmen led to the strengthening of the Communist party. The protests
resulted

Dramatic Play Areas Analysis
As a recently employed preschool teacher I have chosen the block area, dramatic play area, art area,
and sensory table as the four most beneficial and developmentally appropriate learning areas for my
classroom of four year old children.
The first area I would incorporate is the block area. This area would contain shelves and a carpeted
area for the children to build on. This area and the dramatic play area will be the two largest areas in
the classroom. Block play helps children progress in many different areas of development and
learning. Children are able to develop social emotional skills by learning to negotiate the use of
materials, follow rules to build safely, and exchange ideas with other children. They work their
physical fine and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To address the materials, I could make a list of what is already available and what I would like to add.
I could check with the other classrooms to see if there are items we can share and borrow from each
other. I will be rotating items to keep children s interests and will not need all the materials at one time
anyways. I could also check with my supervisor to see if some items could be purchased, or if they are
relatively inexpensive I could purchase them or bring them in from home for classroom use. I would
also work closely with the parents so that they understood what skills the children are learning in the
different areas and that getting messy is part of a quality early childhood experience. I would have the
children use smocks whenever possible, and always use washable paints and markers. I love the
Creative Curriculum books because it offers premade parent letters that explain what the children are
learning while they play in the different areas. Many times parents think their child is simply playing,
and do not understand that that is how children learn

Krishna Pauroti Essay
For anybody living in Kathmandu in the 50s, Krishna Pauroti was synonymous with pauroti (bread).
Set up in 1949, when the now pervasive white bread was an oddity, the pastry kitchen is an
establishment, with three eras of Rajkarnikars keeping its legacy well and alive, even today.
Established by Krishna Bahadur Rajkarnikar, the pastry kitchen acquainted Nepalis with bread when
there was none, and its story runs parallely with the historical backdrop of majority rules system in the
nation.
The Rajkarnikar family has dependably been included in cooking. Haluwa, jalebi and swari were their
claim to fame; even Janga Bahadur Rana knew this.
Gajraj was the first of the Rajkarnikars who worked for the Ranas amid the one family run the show.

Venturesome people like Krishna Bahadur were at more freedom than any other time in recent
memory. The air in the city was diverse with numerous others opening up business to take into
account the rising urban populace of that time.
Krishna Bahadur understood that the time was simply ideal for the development of the business.
Modern scale stove and apparatuses were requested from Britain.
Amid the 10 years since its initiation, the pastry kitchen had seen huge development. In 1951, the
entire nation itself saw an enormous change, and majority rules system rolled out this improvement

Sadly, before the hardware made it to Kathmandu, Krishna Bahadur Rajkarnikar was met with his end.

Pizza USA Term Paper
Pizza USA: An Exercise in Translating Customer Requirements into Process Design
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx University
Abstract
This case involves Pizza USA, a small independent chain restaurant operation that offers both dine in
and carry out services for customers that has received feedback for a potential change that will require
the implementation of design process to add services. Currently, customers have indicated that they
are pleased with the food offered by the restaurant but they would increase pizza purchases if a
delivery service was available. This dilemma ties into two separate issues. First, in order to remain
competitive within the industry, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be critical in the business ability to survive in such a monopolistic type market. Successful
operation within a smaller independent chain restaurant faces challenges that may not be as apparent
to a larger and more established national chains.
Pizza USA is a small chain operation that currently provides two services: dine in and carry out
options. Customers have commented that if delivery services were added to the restaurant offerings,
they would potentially buy more pizzas (Jacobs Chase, 2011). Based on this information, it is apparent
that the owner needs to assess his business operations and consider a process design that would
include adding this service to current operations. The addition of delivery services would potentially
require additional capital to finance changes and may involve the hiring of additional staff. However,
revenue increases as a result of the added service would off set the costs associated with these
additions. Near and long term implications would include survivability within such a competitive
market.
As a customer, the primary focus of my satisfaction with this type of business relates primarily to

Essay about The Rise Of The Nuclear Weapon Into A...
During last 50 years of development, the nuclear bomb, as the ultimate weapon became the
peacekeeping force on the earth. The nuclear bomb was developed in Manhattan project during the
WW II and was successfully tested in the New Mexico on July 16 1945. At this point started the
change of nuclear weapon from ultimate weapon to political weapon. USA decided to use the atomic
bomb to defeat Japan in order to save around 500.000 lives of American soldiers that were needed to
end the war and in the summer 1945 the USA dropped two bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The
nuclear weapon raised the confidence of USA but president Truman did not ordered its mass
production because at that time he saw no explicit political function for the bomb. USA ... Show more

The loss of nuclear deterrence meant that conventional forces hat to deter a Soviet attack on Western
Europe. However, in 1952 John Foster Duller argued in an article A policy of Boldness that the
deterrence could work without using large and expensive conventional armies. The Soviets should
believe that USA has capability do inflict horrible devastation in retaliation. Therefore, Eisenhower
named Dulles the secretary of state in 1952 and accepted his nuclear strategy. Eisenhower ordered
rapid increase in the production of nuclear weapons and airplanes capable to deliver them. This was
called more bang for the buck. The deterrence was enhanced and less conventional forces in Europe
reduced the threat of military attack by the West upon the Soviet Union. It was the best way to prevent
WW 3.
At this point, more important than weapons became a coalition of countries that agree to protect each
other or to attack some enemy. Both major powers realized that the possession of nuclear weapons
endowed them with alliance building capabilities. The major nuclear powers could offer protection.
No nuclear states would fit under one or the other s nuclear umbrella. The Soviet Union organized its
East European satellites into Warsaw Pact in 1955. In addition to NATO, USA established security
treaties with Japan in 1951,Australiacc, and New Zealand (ANZUS) in 1951, and with Southeast
Asian states (SEATO) in 1954. Both superpowers extended their deterrence and

  • 2. Overcoming Fears In William Sleater s The Elevator Everyone has fears, some can get over them and some cannot. When I was small I was afraid of heights, but my uncle helped me get over that phobia. Martin also has fears but has not gotten over them. William Sleater the author of The Elevator made Martin to where he could not overcome his fears. William Sleater shows us Martins lack of ability to get over his fears by building suspense through Martins thoughts and actions, which are all efforts to avoid those fears, because Martin is claustrophobic of the elevator, paranoid by the fat lady, and intimidated by his dad. One of Martins phobias is the elevator. He cannot stand the elevator so he tries the stairs and he does not like those either. Of course he was always uncomfortable in elevators, afraid that they would fall, but there was something especially unpleasant about this one (sentence 4). He felt so uncomfortable even if there was another person in there with him.He also tried the stairs, but he was afraid of them as much as he was afraid of the elevator. He remained tense in the trembling little box, his eyes fixed on the numbers over the door that blinked on and off so haltingly, as if at any moment they might simply give up (sentence 27). • 3. Ncaa Ethics And Compliance Program Case Study 2: NCAA Ethics and Compliance Program Lakisha Sykes Strayer University Ethics and Advocacy for HR Pro / HRM 522 November 14, 2016 Dr. Leslie Wills Abstract A few years ago, there was much discussion relating to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and those units responsible for instituting student athlete and athletic department policy. This purpose of this paper is to discuss the ethical misconduct that occurred at Penn State, Ohio State and the University of Arkansas, and how the NCAA played a role in the wrongdoing. Coaches, players, and administrators face mounting pressures brought on by the need to sell seats and win games. In response, this type of pressure creates opportunities for offenses to take place. The first component of the paper will be to determine the fundamental ways in which the ethics programs of the NCAA failed to prevent the scandals at Penn State, Ohio State, and the University of Arkansas. Once those measures are identified and discussed, the ways the NCAA leadership contributed to the ethical violations of these schools will be discussed. The next element of the paper will predict the key differences in the scandals that occurred at each school if an effective ethics program was implemented. Next, the paper will suggest actions that the NCAA leadership should take to regain the trust and confidence of the students and stakeholders. The last section will identify measures that HR departments of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ginzburg states that many Jews acts of violence carried out against them until they handed them selves in and reported that they were the ones who had started and spread the Bubonic plague. Jews were condemned in the same ways as witches and therefore were burnt at the stake; this was seen to be the most favoured punishment for crimes of witchery. During this time period of early modern Europe many religious and scholarly men had combined the effects of the plague with witchcraft. This said to have occurred because witches had used there powers to poison people through the water and air and they would state that once people are infected by these spells that they would die within three to four days. Due to many Jews and women being of lower class in this time period it was also a belief that because they were unclean they helped spread the plague rapidly. Due to many women of this time during such jobs and Midwives and developing herb to heal their family this gave way to women being labeled witches. Often throughout the essay, she talks about how women make up Wellesley College who want to have the greatest power and strength, by defying social norms and creating their own place to learn. This has been the motto of the college since its beginning, but now, there are transgenders who are entering the college as women, just to gain entry into this environment. Although it seems as if there wouldn t be a huge problem with this, it does go against the mandates created by the college. In this essay. Padawer explains these topics in a certain way, ... To fix this problem, Padawer could give accounts from different people in the college, such as, how the President of the college feels or even get some opinions from the alumnus of the college. • 13. The Plague Of The Bubonic Plague The Bubonic Plague killed over twenty five million people during the Elizabethan Era (David Perlin, PhD and Ann Cohen). The origins of the Black Death can be traced back to the Gobi Desert of Mongolia in the 1320 s (Ed. Geoffrey J. et al). The Bubonic Plague has picked up many nicknames. For example, it has been called The Black Death, and one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse (Ed. Geoffrey J. et al). The Bubonic Plague was very prominent during its time with many people s lives being affected by the treatments, preventions, and twisted theories that occurred. The reason why the Bubonic Plague was called the Black Death is because of the black patches on the victim s skin, hence The Black Plague. The symptoms of the Black Death started as just being uncomfortable. First, it began with a headache, fever, severe pain in the joints, and chills. Next, it became more severe and the victim will suffer from painful swelling in the neck, arms, and inner thighs until they begin to ooze blood and pus. Finally, the victim would end up dying (The Medieval Combat Society). Some important people affected by the Plague were Shakespeare s son (The Children of William Shakespeare), Hamnet and King Edward III of England s daughter, Joan (Plantagenet). Following the beginning of the tragedy, Angela Vicario, the bride of a rich and honorable man, had a conflict with her new husband regarding her virginity. [Clotilde] was certain that the Vicario brothers were not as eager to carry out the sentence as to find someone who would do them the favor of stopping them (Marquez 57). This leads to the start of Santiago s downfall as the twins now are determined to restore their family s honor by murdering Santiago Nasar, which also brings more issues as the twins and Santiago are friends since their childhood. The ending of the tragedy would be the actual murder of Santiago as it brings an end to his life and leaves a tragic finish to the plot. • 23. Parenthesis In Virginia Woolf Now, when the reader wants to know more about what Jacob does in his room, the author introduces the other characters at Cambridge, like Professor Huxtable, Sopwith, and Erasmus Cowman consequently. Since the sequence of events in inner life is not logical, and even thoughts themselves are sporadic, random and inconclusive, the action is presented in fragments. The move or break in the narration makes it fragmentary, and it creates a kind of difficulty to maintain the harmony of the incidents. The entire novel is set in a form where there is never any concrete explanation of what is happening and why is happening. Rather, it is left on reader to find the link between the scattered events. • 24. Elie Wiesel Diary Entries Hello. It s been seventy years since we met, and here we are: still alive. I was ten years old, an emaciated little girl with ragged hair. You were a soldier, and you saved me. Had I remained in the concentration camp any longer, I would have died. Although I was there just a few months (having been discovered a short time before the war ended), my entire family my mother, father, and sister managed to perish in the flames of the crematorium. But when you stood inside the barbed wire with me, carrying the flag that bears freedom, I knew I could not burn with them. I only survived because you liberated me. Even though I came to America shortly after, I did not think I would be able to find you... but seventy years later, I have. Now that I have found you, I just want to know a few things. How did you feel when you discovered my camp? You may not have known about them previously (since these camps were secrets to the world), so it may have shocked you. What did you think of gas chambers, the crematoria, and the mass pits full of deceased Jews? I still remember them; their memory bothers me no longer, though. • 25. Naga Mandali In Naga-Mandala In Naga Mandala,Karnad has borrowed the main plot of the story of Rani from The Serpent Lover which he had heard long ago from Professor A.K. Ramnujan (1992 1993). This tale was later collected in A Flowering Tree and other Oral Tales from India, Published posthumously in 1997. The deviation made in the play from original the folk tale can be traced thus: Rani in the play is depicted as a young and beautiful girl, whereas in the folk tale Kamakshi is a girl who is very patient. In the play the old lady named as Kurudavva, who is blind, offers two pieces of magical roots to Rani. She pays a visit to Rani s house by taking the help of her son, whereas the old woman of the folk tale lives next to Rani s house and is not described as a blind woman. In the original tale, Kamakshi is not much concerned about her husband going to a concubine, she leaves everything on the will of God. She says, let them be happy with anyone he wants , so long he accepts her as his wife. In the play Rani feel like Kamakshi only when the magical potion turns red. There is another major change in the play: In the play the snake only comes at night through the bathroom drainage. This adds horror in the mind of the spectator, whereas in the myth the snake approaches directly from the front door of Kamakshi s house by transforming himself as her husband with exactly the same voice and physical appearance. It is also noticed that the pregnancy of Kamakshi is first observed and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also very likely that the change included multiple pennies. These pennies will then proceed to be left in a pocket and forgotten, never to be used again because their purchasing power is non existent. The United States government should discontinue the manufacturing of pennies. Pennies do not serve the primary role of currency anymore. Also, pennies are uneconomical to produce and waste taxpayers money by lining the pockets of corporations. Lastly, many other countries have discontinued the production of their cent pieces with no negative impact. To understand why a penny does not fulfill its role as currency anymore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the use of fiat currency, many governments backed the value of the currency with gold. For a while, thirty five United States Dollars could be traded for 1 Troy ounce of gold at a bank. Today however, the USD is no longer backed by gold. Most money today is just worthless paper , and if the government endorsing that money fails, it turns that currency into useless paper. (This is causes hyperinflation and recently happened to the Zimbabwean dollar.) All of this ties back into the original problem with pennies. Fiat currency cannot itself be worth more than the value it is given. It would make absolutely no sense to take a dollar worth of gold and make it into a 50 cent coin. If this was done, people would just use the coin as gold, not the 50 cent piece it was supposed to be. When the material fiat money is made out of is worth more than the government proclaimed value, the purpose of that currency has failed and it has turned back into commodity currency. A penny currently costs 1.8 cents to make. That 1.8 cent chuck of metal is then assigned a value of 1 cent. It is unthinkable to lose .8 cents for every penny manufactured. The True Face of Lowbrow Humor Essay Following Chaucer s description of the Miller in the General Prologue, The Miller s Tale reveals a man who is more complex than his appearance initially suggests. The Miller s Tale is a fabliau that consists of events of cuckoldry, foolishness, and secrets (1720, 1718, and 1719). Given the bawdy humor of his story, the Miller would seem to be crude and superficial. As the tale unfolds, it depicts how the norms of society trap John s wife, Alison, in her marriage. Despite his fondness for vulgarity and fraudulence, the Miller is surprisingly sympathetic toward Alison. In their affair, both Nicholas and Alison devise a plan to trick the jealous John. While speaking to John alone, Nicholas warns him of a flood to come and states he must not waste words on the wise; however, Nicholas tricks the so called wise carpenter and has intercourse with John s wife after John falls asleep (1727). Furthermore, Absolom begs for a kiss from Alison, but she beard[s] him, another instance of bawdy deceit (1730). Thus, the disposition toward treachery that Chaucer notes is evident in the Miller s characters as they trick multiple people, actions which exemplify the Miller s immoral nature. Although the Miller is a coarse and deceptive individual, he reveals a sympathetic nature in his tacit approval of Alison s actions. Chaucer depicts the Miller as a big beefed yokel, who can break a door by running at it with his head (1712). Because of these physical characteristics, most readers would assume that he is a strong, dense, and churlish man. However, reflecting on Cato s words that man should marry his like, the Miller notes that Alison is trapped in her marriage to a man older than she, an insight that shows not only his empathy but also his intelligence (1720). The Tiananmen Square Protests, otherwise known as the June Fourth incident, was a series of student led protests and demonstrations in Beijing, China during the spring of 1989. The protests were driven by goals to eliminate corruption within the Communist Party and promote democratic ideals such as freedom of speech, freedom of press and social equality. At the height of the protest from June 3 4, hundreds of thousands of students gathered around Tiananmen Square to protest, prompting military mobilization and resulting in unprecedented bloodshed.
