Who would be the audience for your
media product?
How did you attract/address your
audience?
My target audience is boys aged 13-23. I have
chosen the genre of rock as this is a stereotypical
boy genre and that would attract them to buy the
magazine. I have also made the language in the
magazine fairly informal to ensure that teenagers
will not get bored. The people who will buy my
magazine will be of a low class, as they will most
likely still be in education. However they will have a
lot of disposable income, as their parents will
support them financially. This money will most
likely be spent on entertainment, as they do not
have a job occupying their time.
I used a female model to attract this male audience. This
is called male gaze theory. I edited the model in
Photoshop to make her more perfect, with brighter eyes
and less messy hair. This further backs up my idea that I
am targeting boys aged 13-23. In some ways I both
Conformed and Subverted stereotypes of my genre. I
conformed to the stereotypes of my genre by using a
model that is desirable, and would be a role model for my
audience. However I am also subverting the stereotypes
of my genre by using a female model to represent a genre
that is historically dominated by males.
I feel that my magazine would benefit from a
marketing campaign based on a social media
platform. This would attract my target audience
as social media is most used by teenagers. Also I
know the target audience could be targeted
specifically through advanced advertising tools.
