Osseointegration Essay
Osseointegration: Relevance to implant healing
Introduction History
From the advent of basic dental knowledge thousands of years ago, to our modern era of technological
marvel, humankind has always been innovative in the treatment of caries, partial tooth loss and
complete edentulism. Edentulism negatively affects both the general health and quality of life of a
person. An increased risk of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and renal diseases are a few consequences
of edentulism. With regards to a decrease in quality of life, edentulism negatively affects a person s
self esteem, diet and physical appearance. (Emami et al., 2013)
Dental implants have existed in various forms since ancient times, when materials such as gold, oxen

The success of the titanium implant is due to the induced local bone reaction that occurs. Drilling into
the bone results in tissue trauma, eliciting a healing response. During this stage the implant is first
exposed to blood cells, including inflammatory cells. Nearby endothelial and mesenchymal cells are
sensitized. (Zarb et al., 2008) At the same time a cascade of cytokines, growth factors and
differentiation factors are released by activated blood cells found at the implant surface, an
osteogenetic process. This cascade causes osteoblastic and mesenchymal cells to migrate towards the
bone implant interface, in turn causing glycoproteins such as osteonectin and fibronectin accumulate
at the bone implant interface. (Meyer et al. 2004). This early tissue healing is a volatile phase, which is
prone to interference. Most of the cells, which repair the bone wound, are undifferentiated. The
amount of cells which undergo osseogenic induction determines the quality of bone healing. This is
because they cause osteoid and woven bone to form, which will subsequently transform into lamellar
bone. (Stanford Keller

The U.S. Involvement in the Vietnam War

How did the US involvement in the Vietnam War Impacted the US Socially, Economically, and
Globally? The Vietnam War was one of the most outrageous and long drawn out wars in history. The
other name for the Vietnam War was called Cold Era proxy War. The war had been battled in order to
stop the spread of invasion from communism in the southern parts of Vietnam. The American played
the role of a supporter to the southern part of Vietnam, trying to prevent communist from approaching
the southern part of Vietnam. The Americans was influenced by the French government to help with

Again, the United States have learned a lesson from the Vietnamese feared rebellions happening in the
United States among themselves again. To prevent that from happening, America actions and
understanding were based on the media and information being delivered appropriately by the
government of the country. The Vietnam War did not only have caused unrest among the United States
civilians, but the war resulted in the depreciation of America s economy. Due to the war s demands in
supplies, there were enormous amounts of negative imbalances in the industrial sector. Industries that
manufacture goods such as agricultural products, capital goods, and consumer goods have been
prevented from manufacturing the product to meet the population s needs.
(http://www.historycentral.com/) The Factories were unable to manufacture goods and ship it to their
people. This is because the factories that were trying to manufacture the consumer s goods had to shift
their responsibility towards catering and producing goods to met the demands of the military instead.
Additionally, the unnecessary military spending, and the diversion of funds oversea resulted in the
depreciation of the United States dollars. There were no equivalent funds or offers coming into the
country, so the United States withdrawn themselves from improving their countries areas to military

Short Story Burn 3 By Kami Garcia
In the short story Burn 3 by Kami Garcia, the author s created world can be identified as a dystopia
because of the characters fear of the outside world, and their society s banishment of the natural world.
In Burn 3 , a girl named Phoenix and her sister Sky live in a post apocalyptic world in which the
ozone layer has been destroyed, leaving the surface of the Earth to be burned by the Sun s intense UV
radiation. Humans live in Domes, which are constructed environments in which there is a protective
shield over an area where humans are able to live above ground. One day, Phoenix s sister Sky is
kidnapped, and taken into the tunnels beneath the Dome to have her skin removed and sold to those
who have been burned by the Sun s rays. Through the help of one of the people living in the tunnels,
Sky and the other children who have been kidnapped are saved from their death, and return above
ground. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characters live under a Dome that was built to protect them from the world that has now become
dangerous. From the excerpt, The Dome is supposed to protect us from the holes in the ozone layer
holes that turned more than two thirds of the world to ash twenty years ago (Garcia 4). In this world,
the citizens greatest fear is of the outside world, and not without reason. The Dome is the only thing
standing between the humans and the fatal rays from the Sun. This intense fear is indicative of a

The Musculoskeletal System Is Under The Control Of The...
The Musculoskeletal system is under the control of the nervous system and is responsible for human
movement; this is comprised of the skeletal and muscular system, with the human body containing
640 skeletal muscles (Watkins 2010). Skeletal muscle is made up of muscle fibres (myofibres) and
contain multiple nuclei; within the cytoplasm of these cells, there are long chains of myfibrils which
are chains of many sarcomeres and these run from end to end of the muscle. Sarcomeres are
comprised of thin and thick bands of proteins called actin and myosin; which overlap when a muscle
contraction occurs; shortening the sarcomere (Edmiston 2012). Muscle contractions are stimulated by
motor neurons; these carry information from the central nervous ... Show more content on

The variables being discussed in this report are the percentage of peak power decrease (in the
quadriceps) between repeated sprints and either active or passive recovery; from this, two major
questions arise; Is the percentage decrease in peak power on a repeated sprint significantly different
between subject groups who completed an active recovery or a passive recovery? And what are the
physiological mechanisms that cause a decrease in peak power to occur? The following alternative
hypothesis will therefore be tested, to determine if; there is a significant difference in the decrease of
peak power between repeated sprints where subjects complete either an active or passive recovery and
the following null hypothesis has been set, predicting that; there is no significant difference in peak
power decrease between repeated sprints where either an active or passive recovery technique was
used.
Subjects and Ethics
To take part in the study subjects were required to give written consent; approved by researchers at the
university, who carried out risk assessments prior to the study; part of this was reminding subjects that
they were able to withdraw at any time if they felt like they could not physically continue with the

Canadian Magazine Dispute Case Study
1. To what extent do you think the U.S. Canadian magazine dispute was motivated by genuine desires
to protect Canadian culture?
I believe a small part of the dispute of the argument was to protect the Canadian culture. The
magazine rotation is Canada is mostly American. There is very little Canadian tradition in these
magazines. Magazines show a large part of a country s culture. That is why many countries do not
carry magazines of different culture or have them in large rotation. Depending on the type of
magazines, many residents look for trends that are going on in their country. If a Canadian opens a
home décor magazine, for example, and it is American then they will have a completely Americanized
idea of home décor, not of Canadian trends. So magazines can lead to culture and culture being lost.

If you were the Canadian government, trying to protect the domestic magazine market, what kind of
criteria would you establish to distinguish between a split run and a domestic magazine?
Lack of enforcement of some existing policies provide competitive advantages to non Canadian
magazines and would appear to undermine enforcement of Canadian (Jamison, 2008).
Lacking of enforcement of pushing more Canadian magazines on the newsstands has caused major
competition with Canada and foreign magazines. I would make sure that the would work with foreign
magazines to use some of the Canadian advertising, publishing as well as modeling agencies in these
magazines. If there can be no other compromise, I would use my position to make sure that agencies
in publications are utilized in these magazines as well so they can seek profit.

China Is The Second Large Economy
Nowadays, everyone says China is the second large economy in the world. In 2015, GDP of China
reached $11,385 billion with a growth rate of 6.9%. Some people predict that one day GDP of China
will exceed GDP of U.S. and that day will come soon. Unquestionably, China is growing rapidly and
the Chinese economy is doing well, but does this mean the Chinese citizen is at high utility level? The
answer is no. The fact is that most of the Chinese citizens today are facing the problem of unbalanced
income and prices, which means the living costs are too high while the salary rate is relatively low.
Besides, China is developing rapidly these years, Chinese people are demanding a better life which
they want to eat better food, have a better education, and live in a better house. Therefore, people in
China today are confronting the problem. Why is this problem occurring? Other than the high
population rate of China, there are few more reasons: 1) high tax rate, which cause high living
expenses; 2) low social benefits, which mainly embodied in high medical expenses; 3) unaffordable
housing price, which some people cannot even afford a house with mortgage, other people can only
barely afford it but with overload pressure; 4) low salary rate due to variety reasons; and 5) export too
much products to U.S. causes inflation which decreases RMB purchasing power, thus, prices for
goods and services in the market increasing and people can buy less with their salary. According to

Sigmund Freud And Erikson s Theory Of Human Development
Introduction
The issue of human development has been a related one within the human society. In this respect,
there are several developmental theories that have been forwarded by some of the world s most well
known psychologists. The two main psychoanalytic theories are Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory
and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory. They are the two names that one cannot miss while talking
about psychology. Sigmund Freud is called the father of psychology while Erik Erikson s ideas have
become the best known.

Their theories were unique in their own way. Freud s psychosexual theory was focused almost entirely
on male development with little mention of female psychosexual development. When Fisher
Greenberg (1996) evaluated psychosexual hypotheses specifically on female they found nothing.
According to McLeod, S. (2013) Freud based his theory on the recollections of his childhood and his
adult patients, not on actual observation and study of children. On the other hand Erikson s studies
were based on children, college students and most importantly he observed his own children

Causes of the Great Fire of London Essay
James Jonathan Gray
Hist 3372
Fall 2009
Dr.Willis
According to Adrian Tinniswood, seventeenth century Londoners vacillated between seeing the Great
Fire of London as an act of terrorism and an act of god. What were the major components of these
explanations and why were contemporaries so eager to search for a reason for the calamity other than
simple accident.
Was the Great fire of London an act of terrorism or an act of God? There are numerous explanations
that attribute to the belief in either. London in the seventeenth century was no paradise and was
actually a quite unpleasant place to live. Coupled with thousands dying from an outbreak of plague,
with the dead sometimes populating the streets of London, it is quite ... Show more content on

This contributed to many a belief that the fire that paved the way for a rebuilding of a new, more
grandiose city was a gift from God. To paint a picture before the fire of London, Tinniswood called
London smoke polluted with deformed buildings, so much so that the magistrate would not warrant
any extreme haste when fire, which was common among a town full of old wooden buildings,
happened there (11). Furthermore the industries in London polluted the air (12). It is easy to picture
how lowly and poverty stricken the pre fire London really was. In addition to all of this, many people
believed apocalypse and judgment were to befall the great city anyways; that it was only a matter of
time until God was to act there. When the British attacked and sunk the Dutch fleet, there was the
presence in the date of three sixes, the year 1666, and this caused great fear, causing many to consider
this a prophecy, and Londoners of the day took prophecies very seriously. This is pointed out in the
book by astrologer John Booker entitled: New Almanack and Prognostication, which Tinniswood
references in his text (20 21). This grand fanaticism in belief of God s judgment upon London among
the people can be further displayed in some writings of one of the Duke s helpers under Lord
Berkeley. He wrote: Nothing can be like unto the distraction we were in, but the Day of Judgment.
Another fellow wrote different words at the site of winds from all directions spreading

An Analysis Of Haraway s Manifesto Manifesto Essay
In a world invested in (overly) determined biological authenticity, its margins will be populated by the
identified and self identifying cyborgs. This is not a coincidence. Haraway s Manifesto strongly
suggests that in such a mixed subjugated population emergent opportunities for political alliances
based on affinities thrives. She reminds us that cyborgs do not/cannot respect traditional boundaries
and are therefore driven by survival (294) imperatives to reach across, to break through, to shatter
windows and ceilings, to ultimately be fluid and flow between hardened boundaries and between
worlds of status quo. In other words, to not only create patchwork identities but to construct political
understandings and positions through patchwork or coalition politics. For alliances to work there must
first be alignments. Haraway locates these through Sandoval (2000) who in Methodology for The
Oppressed, notes a connectivity between the mestiza consciousness that emerges from the Anzalduan
borderlands where feminists of color keep intact shifting and multiple identities with integrity and
love and the commitment to partiality, irony, intimacy and perversity of cyborgs (168) . It becomes
salient to highlight how these shifting and multiple identities are survival mechanisms activated in
response to being othered by dominant politics and those who espouse them. Both feminists of color
and cyborgs have utilized these mechanisms by recreating themselves in response,

Personal Statement On Family Therapy
Abstract Family Therapy can be implemented in a different ways in a program that provides a facet of
services, but it s imperative that the approaches used are appropriate for the individual or families
utilizing services. Functional Family Therapy is used to help deal with substance abuse in families but
can also be used to assist with behavioral issues in children. A well rounded family service program
can not only use this one approach but utilize other approaches to meet the needs of the population
being served. And while implementing the service ethics will play a major role in the therapy being

Theory is a systematic collection of concepts and relations. Family however can mean a broad range
of things to a person. One person may consider family to be father, mother, sister and brother;
however, to someone else family could be just one parent with one child; and to another it could their
friends. Family systems theory however defines the family as a system. Family consist of interrelated

Physical And Psychological Effects Of War In The Sniper By...
War is something that can change the very principles of a person, it can change a person and leave
multiple effects that can last for their entire life. The sniper is fighting in a civil war where friends and
family can turn into enemies at a moment s notice. The fight is between the Republicans and the Free
Staters, the protagonist is a sniper for the Republicans. Throughout the story, we go into the state of
mind of the main character and learn some ramifications that he gained in the war. The text, The
Sniper by Liam O Flaherty shows us the physical and psychological results of war, that happens to
people.
The easiest effect that is found throughout the text would be the physical effects, that happens all the
time. Midway through the text without a moment s notice he was perfectly fine and then out of
nowhere he gets shot. We find out about his injury from the quote from the story, His forearm was
dead. I m hit, he muttered. He just finished taking out the informant and the guy in the turret, not even
a minute passed and the sniper gets shot causing an injury that might never fully heal. Hunger is an
important thing that gets ignored in war and people starve for hours not being able to eat food. In the
second paragraph, the author pointed that out in these two sentences, He was eating a sandwich
hungrily. He had eaten nothing since morning. The sniper wasn t able to eat since the morning he
would definitely be starving at that point of time. To compensate

As children, we are all blessed with the opportunity to experience the world around us without
shouldering the responsibility of taking care of the environment that we live in we are carefree, other
than the occasional tantrum in the middle of Walmart. As a result, few of us likely consciously
recognized the invaluable lessons present in most of the children s books we were reading. The Lorax,
written by Dr. Seuss, is a classic example of one such book. His work takes the reader along on a
fictional journey into the world of the Tragedy of the Commons, a place of collective despair after the
mass deforestation of the famed Truffula tree. The Tragedy of the Commons, a term coined by Garrett
Hardin in 1968, is a phenomenon that occurs as individuals continue to consume a public resource in
greater and greater quantities over time, thinking that their singular effect will be negligible when it, in
combination with the effects of many others, can cause catastrophic long term results.Though
beautifully depicted in Dr. Seuss s fantasy world, the Tragedy of the Commons is an issue faced
globally by societies every day. Many communities that border the Gulf of Mexico are currently
suffering as a result of what has come to be known as the Gulf s dead zone, a massive stretch of ocean
that has been deoxygenated and is now devoid of marine life. The causation of this large scale disaster

Modernist Painting By Clement Greenberg
In his essay, Modernist Painting (1960), Clement Greenberg seeks to lay principles for evaluating the
progression of art to modern painting. Greenberg makes a lot of evaluations and assessments about
modern paintings that are credible and can be held to a high standard. Despite his best efforts, some of
his assertions are shrouded in generalizations and lack the necessary premises to be established as
entirely objective and affirmative. Greenberg claims that the Old Masters created space one could
imagine walking into and experience, but modern painters, on the other hand, create space only
accessible to the visual senses, eye. His observations regarding these Old Masters is undeniable for the
most part, but his assertions on modern paintings brings up a lot of controversy.
To question Greenberg, one must first understand how the representation of depth of space evolved
over time. The full range of this evolution cannot be mapped in this essay, thus only relevant and
specific ones will be discussed. Dating back to the 16th century, the Renaissance painters saw a
heightening of perspective painting. By imitating how distant and close objects appear to the eye, the
optical illusion of space is created by a geometric representation of unfolding space. Rafael s Marriage
of the Virgin, 1504 (fig.1) is a prominent paragon to reflect on regarding this technique. With defined
lines and patterns leading to the doorway of the background building, Rafael gives the audience a

one s patients; 5 items), and personal accomplishment (feeling successful or competent with one s
profession; 8 items). Each question allows for the responder to indicate the degree of burnout via a 7
point Likert scale, where never = 0 and daily = 6. If emotional exhaustion levels and depersonalization
scores are collectively high, while personal accomplishment scores are low, a high level of burnout is
indicated (Sabbah, et al., 2012, p. 645) (Maslach Jackson, 2016). The Nursing Stress Scale (NSS) is
used to examine stress for nurses working in a hospital. This 34 item questionnaire focuses on seven
areas of potentially stressful scenarios, including Death and Dying Patients (7 items), Conflict with
Physicians (5 items), Inadequate Preparation (3 items), Lack of Staff Support (3 items), Conflict with
Other Nurses (5 items), Workload (6 items), and Uncertainty Concerning Treatment (5 items).
Responses are recorded via a 4 point Likert scale, ranging from never = 1 to very frequently = 4. The
higher the score, the higher the nurses feelings of stress at work are (Lee, et al., 2007) (Gray Toft
Anderson, 1981). Integration and maintenance The sixth and final step of the practice model is
integration and maintenance. Within this stage, evidence will be integrated into policies, as
effectiveness and outcomes of the change are monitored. Communication for new ideas and updates to
make the change better is welcome (Reavy Tavernier, 2008, p. 169). As it pertains to the proposed
intervention, there will be a number of visual reminders hanging on the walls of staff lounges. It may
be beneficial to summarize the learned techniques and have the reminder placed in staff lounges and
bathrooms. This stage is the time to truly evaluate if the change is actually beneficial to the
organization and what can be done to continue its progress, or even make it better for future
implications. Facilitating Factors to Implementation Staff nurses are already open to the idea of group
talk and discussion about changes to institutional based practices that should be changed or
implemented. These discussions occur through monthly council meetings, shift huddles, and staff

Albinism Research Paper
Imagine having little or no pigment in your eyes, skin, and hair. You re constantly putting on
sunscreen and covering up your skin because you are worried you will develop skin cancer down the
road. No matter what doctors can do, you will never have 20/20 vision. This is what it is like if you
have Albinism. Albinism is a genetic disorder children can inherit from their parents. First of all,
people with Albinism have little or no pigment in their hair, eyes, and skin. With no pigment comes
lack of color eyes, skin, and hair so they have light skin and hair. Albinism is a recessive trait so both
parents have to give the child the Albinism gene. Secondly, Albinism is caused when a child inherits
one defective gene, which is responsible for producing Melanin, from each parent. Melanin is
responsible for absorbing ultraviolet rays so the skin isn t damaged. Thirdly, Albinism has many
negative symptoms. People with Albinism don t tan when exposed to sun and easily get sunburns.

Background Information Clinical decision support system (CDSS) is gaining increased recognition in
healthcare organization. This is due to an increasing recognition that a stronger CDSS is crucial to
achieve a high quality of patients care and safety1,2. CDSS is a class of computerized information
system that supports decision making activities2. It uses patient data to provide tailored patient ...

The output can also take a number of forms and can be delivered to a number of destinations at any
time before, during or post interaction with the patient4. CDS is most effective when provided at the
time that the physician is formulating her assessment of the patient s condition and is making ordering
decisions2. CDS encompasses a variety of tools to enhance decision making in the clinical workflow.
These tools include computerized alerts and reminders to care providers and patients; clinical
guidelines; condition specific order sets; focused patient data reports and summaries; documentation
templates; diagnostic support, and contextually relevant reference information, among other tools.
Computer assisted decision support is only acceptable when it allows the physician to override a
system provided recommendation and choose an alternative action2. The most successful decision
support intervention makes complying with the suggested action easy. A brief rationale is generally
provided with the recommendation, and complying with the recommendation is as easy as hitting the
Enter key or clicking the mouse. CDSS can vary greatly in design and function, undergoing a constant
evolution of their scope and application4. The majority of CDS applications operate as components of
comprehensive electronic health record systems, although

Rio Host Impacts Essay

Title Every four years the world goes into a clamor for the Olympic Games, and cities aggressively
bid for the right to host these events. Cities literally fight for the right to hold these games and spend
exorbitant amounts of money in the hopes of bringing the worlds Olympiad s to their municipality.
But, is the prestige of being the host worth it for the host city? It is becoming more apparent that these
endeavors are detrimental to the economy, if you look at the five most recent summer Olympics; Rio
de Janeiro, London, Beijing, Athens, and Sydney. Many of these cities apply with the hopes of a
positive long term impact, many in recent times to be severely disappointed. Rio won it s Olympic bid
in 2009, after several years of solid GDP growth and was one of the most dynamic emerging
economies at the time. The summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were plagued by controversy even
before the games started, with concerns over the outbreak of the Zika virus as well as the concerns
about the water in the area (Rapoza). After Brazil announced that it would host the 2016 Olympics it
has invested twelve billion dollars in infrastructure alone between 2009 2015, something that had to
be developed to support the influx of tourists and athletes (Rapoza). This investment in the
infrastructure and public spending increased the debt of Rio by 17%, and the state received a bailout
from the government in June. In the investment phase there was

Analyzing Networked Control Systems For Network Induced...
Abstract Networked Control Systems (NCS) are the control systems in which the control loop is
connected through a communication channel. There has been an increased attention to the use of
Network Control System (NCS) in recent years because of their cost effective and flexible
applications. But one of the major issues that need to be studied and solved in NCS is the delay of the
data transmission which occurs throughout the communication network in the system and thus
degrades the control system performance and also causes the system instability. This paper basically
presents an analysis of network delay in NCS. In this paper, we have designed a model of delay
control system for network induced delay using the simulation model of network control system delay
and thus analysed the effect of network delay on the performance of the control system. The TrueTime
toolbox of Matlab/Simulink is used for simulating the NCS model.
Keywords networked control system, network delay, control performance, truetime, stability
I.INTRODUCTION
In conventional control systems, control signals are sent over the loop using analog or digital
technology whereas in modern control systems, the control loop is closed through a real time
communication network by T. C. Yang et al. [1]. The Networked Control Systems (NCSs) are the
distributed control systems in which the system components (sensors, actuators and controllers) are
connected by communication networks [2]. One

Taking a Look at Brunei Darussalam
A small country in Southeast Asia, Brunei Darussalam is situated about 4° north of the Equator and
about 114° degrees east. It is right next to Sarawak, the East Malaysian state. Brunei s climate is a mix
of tropical and equatorial. Temperatures are high and there is rainfall all year round. At higher
altitudes it is humid subtropical accompanied with heavy rainfall. Humid subtropical climate is
subtropical climate with summers that are hot and humid and winters that are usually mild. The
temperature remains stable at 10 °C or 50 °F and the region is warm to hot most of the year with mild
winters. The climate in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital city and the largest one in Brunei, is tropical
equatorial. It has two seasons; the dry and the wet or rainy season. In the dry season it is extremely hot
with temperatures soaring up to 36 °C or 96.8 °F. In the rainy season, it is usually warm and wet with
temperatures ranging from 20 °C to 28 °C or 68.0 °F to 82.4 °F. The country of Brunei, in most parts,
is a flat coastal plain. In the east, there are mountains and in the west, hilly lowlands.
Climatic regions
There are several climatic regions in Brunei. These are:
1. The Brunei Muara District and Bandar Seri Begawan
2. The Tutong District
3. The Belait District

The Positive Impact Of The Roaring Twenties
Post war years have significant impacts on a society s economy, bringing an abundance of celebration,
cherished moments and highlighting the end of the plagued events of war and loss. With the end of
such an afflicted time period, the arrival of solidarity and unification in society usually follows. The
Roaring Twenties accomplished many positive changes in Canadian society, building the path it needs
to follow to become a great nation and progress into the future. The time period was regarded as a
time of excitement and prosperity concerning the fads, fashions, and entertainment, as well as the
freedom many people gained with the end of the war. Furthermore, the Roaring Twenties can also be
seen as a time of positive change due to a variety of factors such as Canada s developing autonomy
and political relationship with Britain, pushing Canada to become an independent nation. Another
factor would be the Canadian industries and economy that flourished during the 1920s which allowed
many Canadian businesses to prosper and enabled Canadians to acquire and enjoy an improved
quality of life. Finally, the change in societal status and role of women established the starting point of
gender equality between men and women, as well as the recognition of the various contributions that
women were capable of bringing to society.
Before the 1920s, Canada made decisions on its domestic matters independently. It was only during
the 1920s that Canada began to take an independent approach in

To Infinity and Beyond! is Buzz Lightyear s famous catchphrase in the Toy Story films and the
standard definition is Without limits, limitless, sky s the limit but, hidden in this phrase is a deeper
philosophical meaning. Dr. Kent A. Bessey wrote about how the German mathematician Georg Cantor
published papers that explained the aspects of infinity and was set on figuring out as much as he could
about the limits of infinity. With his tenacity it led Cantor to discover a realm of infinity that no other
mathematician was able to discover. Bessy states that Cantor discovered, a remarkable realm where
half of a pie is as large as the whole infinity comes in all different sizes, and miracles become
mathematically plausible. Cantor would come

Application Of A Handwriting From A
Abstract :
The Objective of this project is to recognise english handwriting from a given document image. In this
report we have used 40point feature extraction to extract pattern from the characters and then use this
data to train artificial neural network. This system is very successful in recognition of handwritten
characters. Hence this system will be suitable to convert handwritten text into text document.
Introduction :
Optical Character Recognition is one of the most researching field in recent years. It has numerous
applications in the field of automation and advancement of machine interface with man. Handwritten
recognition is one of the challenging and fascinating area for research in Optical
Character Recognition. Online and Offline are two modes for handwritten recognition. In Offline
method, writing is captured by scanner and final text is formed. The data formed from 40point feature
extraction is used to feed artificial neural network to train it and produce more accurate result. Several
applications such as document reading, mail sorting, postal address recognition and bank processing
require offline handwritten recognition. As a result, offline method is very active area for research for
more accurate solutions. In this project we used english alphabet characters to train artificial neural
network and test its accuracy of character recognition.

Pros And Cons Of Mandatory Military Draft
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln was forced to begin drafting. Many people complained that it was
unconstitutional. This was the first mandatory military recruitment in U.S history. There has been two
more drafts since Lincoln had the first one in 1863. The argument most people have about drafting is,
if it is right? There are many pros and cons of having a draft, how the military would go about drafting
people, and how it will affect the families of those who are drafted. The first ever draft was held in the
Civil War. The South was the first to hold a draft in 1862. The men were required three years of
service and had to be between the ages of 18 and 35. Later on in the war, the age limit was raised
between the ages of 17 to 50. In many states such as Missouri and Iowa, the threat of drafting was
used to help speed up volunteering. However, in 1862 the Militia Act gave authority to the ... Show

It may also make us more apposing. Most countries would not want to go to war with an army of 300
million plus. That would help us get out of wars like we are in with smaller countries like Iraq and
Afghanistan. The draft would upgrade the quality of the U.S military recruitments (Military
Conscription, Recruiting and the Draft). It would give the military access to all the youth between the
ages of 20 and 25. Instead of having kids out of high school, who do not do anything and do not plan
on going to college, they can join the military for a few years and can help the U.S out. It will make
our military more youthful. More than a third of the new military recruitments fail to complete their
enlistments (Military Conscription, Recruiting and the Draft). Have more military personnel would
allow those who serve in the military to have shorter terms. If military had more people in it would
could allow those who enlist to have two year obligations compared to

How Technology Has Affected Us As Individuals
Technology seems like such a vital impact on all of our lives that most of us think we can t live
without it. Sure, the technology used in medical fields, science, engineering, etc. is such a big change
from the way things were only a century ago that we likely couldn t live without it. Although
technology has made incredible advancements, are people losing the ability to talk to one another in a

Competitors have used this fact to differentiate themselves from Simple Simon.
Simple Simon s current financial situation is tenuous. The company is producing 6,000 units per
month, but after all variable and fixed costs, they are losing $40/month. The company s labor costs are
extraordinarily high. The current labor cost is $23.33/unit, which is 72.9% of the $32 sales price (See
attached Table 1).
The production function of a firm relates the quantity of inputs to the quantity of outputs. For this
analysis, Simple Simon s production function is a linear function with labor as its only input.
Production functions can be short run or long run. In the short run, capital inputs like plant and
machinery are fixed and only variable inputs like labor and raw materials can be changed (Production
Functions, p.1). Depending on what stage of production the firm is in, the law of diminishing returns
affects the level of output. The law of diminishing returns states that as more units of a variable input
(i.e. labor) are added to fixed amounts of land and capital, the change in total output will at first rise
and then fall. Simple Simon is so under utilizing its labor that even if the number of workers is
doubled, there is still not a reduction in the level of output per unit of labor.
There are several steps Simple Simon s should undertake to increase profitability. In the short run, the
company should reduce the cost of labor to $65

Qing Dao Short Story
Once upon a time, a kind old fisherman lived with his daughter on an island. One day, the Dragon
King kidnapped the daughter and brought her to his palace. The poor fisherman stood by the ocean
calling out to the sea day by day, for years. It made the Dragon King angry so he cast a spell on him
causing the man to slowly turn into a rock. After the daughter heard what the Dragon King had done,
she escaped the palace and ran towards her father who has now turned into a rock. The ocean breeze
blew the flowers in her hair onto the island, making plants grow. When she is near Lao mountain, the
Dragon King put a spell on her too and turned her into a giant reef. From that day on, the father and
daughter can only look at each other from across the sea, unable to meet. This is the story of Old Man

The Impact Of Traditional Chemotherapeutic Agents On Patients
In contrast to a decade ago, we ve seen an explosion of new drugs and virtually all of these drugs are
targeted therapies. The substantial increase in the transition of FDA approvals from standard
chemotherapeutics to targeted therapies is also equally astounding (Martino et al., 2015). The
traditional chemotherapeutic agents are simply not being developed with the same frequency by drug
companies any more. While chemotherapeutics have had a real impact and in some diseases a
dramatic impact, for most common solid tumours, these impacts have been minimal. Moreover,
standard chemotherapy often results in collateral damage to healthy cells causing unwanted side

This chromosome abnormality involved the exchange of genetic information between ABL gene on
chromosome 9 and BCR gene on chromosome 22. What was remarkable about this was that 95% of
patients with CML had this chromosomal abnormality (ROWLEY, 1973).
Subsequent research showed that in a CML cancer cell, the fusion protein BRC ABL functions as a
constitutively activated intracellular tyrosine kinase that binds to ATP and transfers a phosphate group
to its target substrate protein. The target substrate protein then becomes phosphorylated and progresses
to stimulate cell growth of the leukaemia cells (Lugo et al., 1990).
The drug, Gleevac mimics ATP so it binds to the site within the BRC ABL that s normally bound by
ATP, preventing it from binding. It thereby prevents phosphorylation of the substrate target protein
and prevents cancer cell growth (Deininger, Buchdunger and Druker, 2005).
Based on the 1998 2000 clinical studies, Imatinib yielded high response rates with minimal toxicity in
all phases of CML and consequently received FDA approval in 2001 (Druker et al., 2001) (O Brien et
al., 2003) (Druker et al., 2001) (Hahn, 2003). This was actually the fastest drug approval in FDA
history as within three years the drug went from being an experimental drug to an FDA approved
drug.

examining factors of supply and demand, government intervention, real GDP, and national debt from
an economic perspective. The first factor that I will evaluate is how the Swedish power market has
seen a rightward shift in its supply curve over the last forty years. The Oil Crisis of the 1970s sparked
extensive research into alternative energy sources that would result in a 53.5 percent decrease in oil
dependency between 1970 and 2012 (Energy Use in Sweden). This transition from a finite resource to
its renewable counterpart opened the market for competition in Sweden and, combined with the
inelastic demand for power in a modern nation, increased the quantity available to consumers and
decreased the price. As of right now, green energy cannot be exported very far because it is

What was tribute?
The administrative costs of the empire were met by tribute. Most tribute sent to the treasuries of Persia
was in the form of manufactured goods and metals, especially silver and gold dust. It could also be
given in the form of produce, where the amount for each satrapy was worked out on the basis of the

The recruitment in New Orleans could be dated back to the beginning of the conflict in 1835. Indeed,
in October of that year, the first volunteers were drafted during a meeting at the Bank s Arcade
building. A lot of the young men in the attendance were to enroll themselves on that night and the
New Orleans Greys volunteers regiment was founded. Their involvement into the Texas revolution
would be essential and decisive but, strangely, forgotten by many. At the time, the Mexican
government openly accused the American government of not doing enough to stop the flow of armed
volunteers, who crossed the border to join the Rebels. In fact, while the United States didn t implicitly
supported the revolution, their duplicity and unwillingness to fix the problem indirectly helped the war
effort. During the month of October 1835, the newly formed New Orleans Grey regiment took the
road to Nacogdoches, entered Texas by the Sabine river and reached San Antonio de Bexar(San

bit. When we got our first uniforms and I was as happy as can be. The uniforms and bows make you
feel like a real cheerleader. They mean a lot, especially your first one. It was a great time to make
friends and great bonds. My first friendships started there, right on the grassy cheer and football field.

After doing four years of Pop Warner cheer next came middle school cheer. During those years we got
into the more complex moves, stunts, got mats but lost the ability to do competitions. Having more
complex moves makes a high chance of getting hurt and it happens a lot. We also got the shot to make
a dance and be able to perform them at games. We got old wrestling mats to use but they were not
very protective. We sadly could not compete anymore. Unfortunately, our school could not afford it so
we were stuck cheering for football, which was the best times and also

Technology And The Internet Reducing Pupil s Attention Span
We can all attest to the fact that technology has made our lives better in numerous ways. We have the
ability to communicate with people in different countries with the use of a cell phone. We are able to
communicate with our loved ones via Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat etc... People are living
longer because technology continues to advance, and the more it advances, the more we find answers
and cures to diseases. Senior citizens are living longer which enables them to see their family develop.
Technology has also increased the speed in which we receive and find information. Academically,
students now have more of advantage than those who attended school without the usage of
smartphones, computers, and Google the world s biggest search ... Show more content on

Instead of finding means of connecting with their children, some parents are joining social media sites,
talking more on the phone, checking emails or watching their favorite reality shows. They are
becoming more dependent on technology and that creates a division between a parent and a child. So
what does this mean? Well, it means that parents may be taking their children to parks but are not
joining them to play. It means that parents are rushing their conversations with their children, it means
that parents may be passively encouraging their children to stay indoors on their laptops and I pads
instead of exploring nature. It may also indicate to children that their parents don t think they are
important because they do not have their

How Somatic Experience Is Reflected In Spoken Therapy
This workshop focuses on how somatic experience is reflected in spoken therapy. The workshop
offers the perspective of a DMT and her endeavors to integrate this approach in her training in verbal
psychotherapy. By using somatic experiences we will explore ways in which body awareness informs
clinical practice. Followed by examples that illustrate the movement beyond the polarity of verbal and
nonverbal. Participants will have a chance to see how bodily practice are used in verbal therapy.
Finally, using both somatic and cognitive reflection, we will attempt to embrace the tension between
dichotomizing and integrating the verbal and the nonverbal.
This workshop will provide a dance/movement therapy perspective to analyze spoken therapy. It will
be focused on possible areas of integration and overlap that could make the bodily interventions and
movement observation tools applicable in spoken therapy. The workshop will propose a perspective of
moving beyond the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a brief overview of challenges in the use of nonverbal techniques in the seemingly purely verbal
therapy, participants will be encouraged to use some of the techniques of movement observation,
breathing and bodily awareness. Individual, dyadic and group experiences will be offered and time for
participants to discuss in pairs and in group will be offered. The experiential part will be followed by
the presentation of the clinical vignettes and examples from the workshop leader s practice. Both
somatic and cognitive reflection will be encouraged.
1. Attendees will be able to list and describe some of the main ideas in dance/movement therapy and
analyze the ways in which this practice can be integrated with spoken therapy.
2. Attendees will gain tools that could guide them analyzing the influences of verbal and nonverbal
processes in psychotherapy.
3. Attendees will be exposed to the somatic and cognitive interventions to be used in

K N DAruwalla (1929 1993)
Introduction:
He was born in Lahore , now in Pakistan. HE attended the Government College in Ludhiana (in the
Punjab) for his higher education. After obtaining a Master degree in English literature, he joined the
police department from which he must have by now retired. He is believed to have settled down in
New Delhi. The strangest and the most interesting fact of his life is that while serving his country as a
policeman, he has been English writing poetry, in which he has made a name. Functioning as a police
officer and writing poetry do not go well together. But we must take our hats off (as the phrase goes)
to Daruwalla for his having accomplished his self chosen task of writing poetry admirably. He has ...

The violence would be caused by mutual hatred which prevails between two different groups of the
people. The poet goes about looking for the places where this violence might break out. Violence
would lead to killings; and the poet looks for the possible places where death might raise its head.
Dead Bodies Kept in the Mortuary:
The poet then speaks about the mortuary where the persons killed in violence would be taken and kept
for post mortem or for identification by the relatives who would naturally like to take away those dead
bodies in order to bury them or cremate them, as the case may be. If kept in a mortuary even for a few
days, a dead body begins to stink because of the decomposition which takes place. Not even the sweet
smelling substances like rose water and flowers can drown that foul smell. There is, in the mortuary,
the dead body of a woman whose husband had cut off her nose on a suspicion of her having adulterous
relations with another man. After having cut off her nose he had even stabbed her in breast, thus
puncturing her lungs.
The Human Capacity for Adjustment:
Man, says the poet, can adjust himself to different conditions. For example, a dead man, if buried in
the earth, remains there firmly. If the same man were to be cremated, he would allow the fire to
consume him quickly. If the dead body were thrown to the birds (like the vultures and the kites), he
would let his flesh be eaten up without

Classical Conditioning and the Pupil Dilation Response
National University of Singapore Department of Psychology PL1101E: INTRODUCTION TO
PSYCHOLOGY Question 2 Classical Conditioning and the Pupil Dilation Response Here is a simple
classical conditioning experiment that you can perform on yourself at home. You will need a bell (or
something you can ring), a hand held mirror, and a room that becomes completely dark when the light
is turned off. Hold the bell while standing in the room near the light switch. Once in position, you
should ring the bell and then immediately turn off the light. After waiting in total darkness for about
15 seconds, turn the light back on. Wait another 15 seconds with the light on, and then ring the bell
and immediately turn the light back off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After blindfolding a friend that is seated on the chair with his or her legs positioned one over the other,
sound the buzzer before immediately tapping your friend just below his or her knee with the clinical
hammer. Wait for 5 seconds before repeating this procedure for 20 to 30 times, making sure in each
trial that the buzzer is sounded immediately before the tapping of your friend s knee. After numerous
pairings, it is theoretically possible to observe a reflexive knee jerk even without tapping your friend s
knee, once the buzzer sounds. In this classical conditioning experiment, the tapping of the person s
knee with a clinical hammer is the UCS, as it is a naturally occurring stimulus that elicits the UCR,
which in this case is the reflexive knee jerk action. The distinctive sound given out by the buzzer was
initially the NS, but eventually became the CS, after 20 to 30 pairings with the UCS within close
intervals of 5 seconds during the experiment. It has become a stimulus that is subsequently capable of
eliciting a learned reflex response on its own (CR) which was originally an UCR, because it has been
paired with the original UCS. This can be seen from the results shown by the classical conditioning
experiment conducted above. After the numerous pairings between the sound given out by the buzzer
(NS) and the tapping of the knee using a clinical

Steven Johnson Watching Tv Makes You Smarter Summary
In modern day, television is very prominent in many people s lives. This brings attention to the
question of whether or not watching television makes you smarter. Some argue that because of
complex shows such as 24, the culture is getting more cognitively demanding, not less (278).
However, some believe that mass culture follows a path declining steadily toward lowest common
denominator standards, presumably because the masses want dumb, simple pleasures and big media
companies try to give the masses what they want (278). In Steven Johnson s article, Watching TV
Makes You Smarter, he asserts that exactly what his title suggests. He believes this because of
something he calls the Sleeper Curve. The Sleeper Curve is the concept of cognitive intricacy
improving due to mass media influences. Johnson does an exceptional job at convincing myself and
other readers that watching television can, in fact, make you smarter. He does this by using the
rhetorical features such as presenting dissenting opinions fairly, using relevant examples, and using
personal pronouns. Johnson improved his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gave his writing more of a personal touch. Johnson states, In the end, the Sleeper Curve tells us
something about the human mind (292). By using the pronoun us, he not only added familiarity and a
personal aspect to the article, but he categorized himself as one with the readers. This helps his
argument cause by putting him on the same level as his readers. This allows the audience to empathize
with his opinions. Johnson asserts, In pointing out some of the ways that popular culture has improved
our minds, I am not arguing that parents should stop paying attention to the way their children amuse
themselves (293). The same effect occurs when he uses the pronoun ours. By using personal pronouns
throughout his article, Johnson connected with his audience and made them more receptive to his

  • 2. Osseointegration Essay Osseointegration: Relevance to implant healing Introduction History From the advent of basic dental knowledge thousands of years ago, to our modern era of technological marvel, humankind has always been innovative in the treatment of caries, partial tooth loss and complete edentulism. Edentulism negatively affects both the general health and quality of life of a person. An increased risk of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and renal diseases are a few consequences of edentulism. With regards to a decrease in quality of life, edentulism negatively affects a person s self esteem, diet and physical appearance. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The success of the titanium implant is due to the induced local bone reaction that occurs. Drilling into the bone results in tissue trauma, eliciting a healing response. During this stage the implant is first exposed to blood cells, including inflammatory cells. Nearby endothelial and mesenchymal cells are sensitized. (Zarb et al., 2008) At the same time a cascade of cytokines, growth factors and differentiation factors are released by activated blood cells found at the implant surface, an osteogenetic process. This cascade causes osteoblastic and mesenchymal cells to migrate towards the bone implant interface, in turn causing glycoproteins such as osteonectin and fibronectin accumulate at the bone implant interface. (Meyer et al. 2004). This early tissue healing is a volatile phase, which is prone to interference. Most of the cells, which repair the bone wound, are undifferentiated. The amount of cells which undergo osseogenic induction determines the quality of bone healing. This is because they cause osteoid and woven bone to form, which will subsequently transform into lamellar bone. (Stanford Keller ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Canadian Magazine Dispute Case Study 1. To what extent do you think the U.S. Canadian magazine dispute was motivated by genuine desires to protect Canadian culture? I believe a small part of the dispute of the argument was to protect the Canadian culture. The magazine rotation is Canada is mostly American. There is very little Canadian tradition in these magazines. Magazines show a large part of a country s culture. That is why many countries do not carry magazines of different culture or have them in large rotation. Depending on the type of magazines, many residents look for trends that are going on in their country. If a Canadian opens a home décor magazine, for example, and it is American then they will have a completely Americanized idea of home décor, not of Canadian trends. So magazines can lead to culture and culture being lost. 2. To what extent do you think the government of Canada was pressured to seek to protect its market because of the ... Some people predict that one day GDP of China will exceed GDP of U.S. and that day will come soon. Unquestionably, China is growing rapidly and the Chinese economy is doing well, but does this mean the Chinese citizen is at high utility level? The answer is no. The fact is that most of the Chinese citizens today are facing the problem of unbalanced income and prices, which means the living costs are too high while the salary rate is relatively low. Besides, China is developing rapidly these years, Chinese people are demanding a better life which they want to eat better food, have a better education, and live in a better house. Therefore, people in China today are confronting the problem. Why is this problem occurring? Other than the high population rate of China, there are few more reasons: 1) high tax rate, which cause high living expenses; 2) low social benefits, which mainly embodied in high medical expenses; 3) unaffordable housing price, which some people cannot even afford a house with mortgage, other people can only barely afford it but with overload pressure; 4) low salary rate due to variety reasons; and 5) export too much products to U.S. causes inflation which decreases RMB purchasing power, thus, prices for goods and services in the market increasing and people can buy less with their salary. • 10. Causes of the Great Fire of London Essay James Jonathan Gray Hist 3372 Fall 2009 Dr.Willis According to Adrian Tinniswood, seventeenth century Londoners vacillated between seeing the Great Fire of London as an act of terrorism and an act of god. What were the major components of these explanations and why were contemporaries so eager to search for a reason for the calamity other than simple accident. Was the Great fire of London an act of terrorism or an act of God? There are numerous explanations that attribute to the belief in either. This contributed to many a belief that the fire that paved the way for a rebuilding of a new, more grandiose city was a gift from God. To paint a picture before the fire of London, Tinniswood called London smoke polluted with deformed buildings, so much so that the magistrate would not warrant any extreme haste when fire, which was common among a town full of old wooden buildings, happened there (11). Furthermore the industries in London polluted the air (12). It is easy to picture how lowly and poverty stricken the pre fire London really was. In addition to all of this, many people believed apocalypse and judgment were to befall the great city anyways; that it was only a matter of time until God was to act there. When the British attacked and sunk the Dutch fleet, there was the presence in the date of three sixes, the year 1666, and this caused great fear, causing many to consider this a prophecy, and Londoners of the day took prophecies very seriously. This is pointed out in the book by astrologer John Booker entitled: New Almanack and Prognostication, which Tinniswood references in his text (20 21). This grand fanaticism in belief of God s judgment upon London among the people can be further displayed in some writings of one of the Duke s helpers under Lord Berkeley. He wrote: Nothing can be like unto the distraction we were in, but the Day of Judgment. Another fellow wrote different words at the site of winds from all directions spreading ... • 12. An Analysis Of Haraway s Manifesto Manifesto Essay In a world invested in (overly) determined biological authenticity, its margins will be populated by the identified and self identifying cyborgs. This is not a coincidence. Haraway s Manifesto strongly suggests that in such a mixed subjugated population emergent opportunities for political alliances based on affinities thrives. She reminds us that cyborgs do not/cannot respect traditional boundaries and are therefore driven by survival (294) imperatives to reach across, to break through, to shatter windows and ceilings, to ultimately be fluid and flow between hardened boundaries and between worlds of status quo. In other words, to not only create patchwork identities but to construct political understandings and positions through patchwork or coalition politics. For alliances to work there must first be alignments. Haraway locates these through Sandoval (2000) who in Methodology for The Oppressed, notes a connectivity between the mestiza consciousness that emerges from the Anzalduan borderlands where feminists of color keep intact shifting and multiple identities with integrity and love and the commitment to partiality, irony, intimacy and perversity of cyborgs (168) . It becomes salient to highlight how these shifting and multiple identities are survival mechanisms activated in response to being othered by dominant politics and those who espouse them. The fight is between the Republicans and the Free Staters, the protagonist is a sniper for the Republicans. Throughout the story, we go into the state of mind of the main character and learn some ramifications that he gained in the war. As a result, few of us likely consciously recognized the invaluable lessons present in most of the children s books we were reading. The Lorax, written by Dr. Seuss, is a classic example of one such book. His work takes the reader along on a fictional journey into the world of the Tragedy of the Commons, a place of collective despair after the mass deforestation of the famed Truffula tree. The Tragedy of the Commons, a term coined by Garrett Hardin in 1968, is a phenomenon that occurs as individuals continue to consume a public resource in greater and greater quantities over time, thinking that their singular effect will be negligible when it, in combination with the effects of many others, can cause catastrophic long term results.Though beautifully depicted in Dr. Seuss s fantasy world, the Tragedy of the Commons is an issue faced globally by societies every day. • 17. Modernist Painting By Clement Greenberg In his essay, Modernist Painting (1960), Clement Greenberg seeks to lay principles for evaluating the progression of art to modern painting. Greenberg makes a lot of evaluations and assessments about modern paintings that are credible and can be held to a high standard. Despite his best efforts, some of his assertions are shrouded in generalizations and lack the necessary premises to be established as entirely objective and affirmative. Greenberg claims that the Old Masters created space one could imagine walking into and experience, but modern painters, on the other hand, create space only accessible to the visual senses, eye. His observations regarding these Old Masters is undeniable for the most part, but his assertions on modern paintings brings up a lot of controversy. To question Greenberg, one must first understand how the representation of depth of space evolved over time. The full range of this evolution cannot be mapped in this essay, thus only relevant and specific ones will be discussed. Dating back to the 16th century, the Renaissance painters saw a heightening of perspective painting. By imitating how distant and close objects appear to the eye, the optical illusion of space is created by a geometric representation of unfolding space. Rafael s Marriage of the Virgin, 1504 (fig.1) is a prominent paragon to reflect on regarding this technique. Each question allows for the responder to indicate the degree of burnout via a 7 point Likert scale, where never = 0 and daily = 6. If emotional exhaustion levels and depersonalization scores are collectively high, while personal accomplishment scores are low, a high level of burnout is indicated (Sabbah, et al., 2012, p. 645) (Maslach Jackson, 2016). The Nursing Stress Scale (NSS) is used to examine stress for nurses working in a hospital. This 34 item questionnaire focuses on seven areas of potentially stressful scenarios, including Death and Dying Patients (7 items), Conflict with Physicians (5 items), Inadequate Preparation (3 items), Lack of Staff Support (3 items), Conflict with Other Nurses (5 items), Workload (6 items), and Uncertainty Concerning Treatment (5 items). Responses are recorded via a 4 point Likert scale, ranging from never = 1 to very frequently = 4. The higher the score, the higher the nurses feelings of stress at work are (Lee, et al., 2007) (Gray Toft Anderson, 1981). You re constantly putting on sunscreen and covering up your skin because you are worried you will develop skin cancer down the road. No matter what doctors can do, you will never have 20/20 vision. This is what it is like if you have Albinism. Albinism is a genetic disorder children can inherit from their parents. First of all, people with Albinism have little or no pigment in their hair, eyes, and skin. With no pigment comes lack of color eyes, skin, and hair so they have light skin and hair. Albinism is a recessive trait so both parents have to give the child the Albinism gene. Secondly, Albinism is caused when a child inherits one defective gene, which is responsible for producing Melanin, from each parent. Melanin is responsible for absorbing ultraviolet rays so the skin isn t damaged. Thirdly, Albinism has many negative symptoms. People with Albinism don t tan when exposed to sun and easily get sunburns. They have a greater risk for skin cancer than people without Albinism. CDS is most effective when provided at the time that the physician is formulating her assessment of the patient s condition and is making ordering decisions2. CDS encompasses a variety of tools to enhance decision making in the clinical workflow. These tools include computerized alerts and reminders to care providers and patients; clinical guidelines; condition specific order sets; focused patient data reports and summaries; documentation templates; diagnostic support, and contextually relevant reference information, among other tools. Computer assisted decision support is only acceptable when it allows the physician to override a system provided recommendation and choose an alternative action2. The most successful decision support intervention makes complying with the suggested action easy. A brief rationale is generally provided with the recommendation, and complying with the recommendation is as easy as hitting the Enter key or clicking the mouse. • 22. Rio Host Impacts Essay Name Prof. Class Date Title Every four years the world goes into a clamor for the Olympic Games, and cities aggressively bid for the right to host these events. Cities literally fight for the right to hold these games and spend exorbitant amounts of money in the hopes of bringing the worlds Olympiad s to their municipality. But, is the prestige of being the host worth it for the host city? It is becoming more apparent that these endeavors are detrimental to the economy, if you look at the five most recent summer Olympics; Rio de Janeiro, London, Beijing, Athens, and Sydney. Many of these cities apply with the hopes of a positive long term impact, many in recent times to be severely disappointed. Rio won it s Olympic bid in 2009, after several years of solid GDP growth and was one of the most dynamic emerging economies at the time. The summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were plagued by controversy even before the games started, with concerns over the outbreak of the Zika virus as well as the concerns about the water in the area (Rapoza). After Brazil announced that it would host the 2016 Olympics it has invested twelve billion dollars in infrastructure alone between 2009 2015, something that had to be developed to support the influx of tourists and athletes (Rapoza). This investment in the infrastructure and public spending increased the debt of Rio by 17%, and the state received a bailout from the government in June. In the investment phase there was ... • 23. Analyzing Networked Control Systems For Network Induced... Abstract Networked Control Systems (NCS) are the control systems in which the control loop is connected through a communication channel. There has been an increased attention to the use of Network Control System (NCS) in recent years because of their cost effective and flexible applications. But one of the major issues that need to be studied and solved in NCS is the delay of the data transmission which occurs throughout the communication network in the system and thus degrades the control system performance and also causes the system instability. This paper basically presents an analysis of network delay in NCS. In this paper, we have designed a model of delay control system for network induced delay using the simulation model of network control system delay and thus analysed the effect of network delay on the performance of the control system. The TrueTime toolbox of Matlab/Simulink is used for simulating the NCS model. Keywords networked control system, network delay, control performance, truetime, stability I.INTRODUCTION In conventional control systems, control signals are sent over the loop using analog or digital technology whereas in modern control systems, the control loop is closed through a real time communication network by T. C. Yang et al. [1]. The Networked Control Systems (NCSs) are the distributed control systems in which the system components (sensors, actuators and controllers) are connected by communication networks [2]. One ... The current labor cost is $23.33/unit, which is 72.9% of the $32 sales price (See attached Table 1). The production function of a firm relates the quantity of inputs to the quantity of outputs. For this analysis, Simple Simon s production function is a linear function with labor as its only input. Production functions can be short run or long run. What was remarkable about this was that 95% of patients with CML had this chromosomal abnormality (ROWLEY, 1973). Subsequent research showed that in a CML cancer cell, the fusion protein BRC ABL functions as a constitutively activated intracellular tyrosine kinase that binds to ATP and transfers a phosphate group to its target substrate protein. The target substrate protein then becomes phosphorylated and progresses to stimulate cell growth of the leukaemia cells (Lugo et al., 1990). The drug, Gleevac mimics ATP so it binds to the site within the BRC ABL that s normally bound by ATP, preventing it from binding. It thereby prevents phosphorylation of the substrate target protein and prevents cancer cell growth (Deininger, Buchdunger and Druker, 2005). Their involvement into the Texas revolution would be essential and decisive but, strangely, forgotten by many. At the time, the Mexican government openly accused the American government of not doing enough to stop the flow of armed volunteers, who crossed the border to join the Rebels. In fact, while the United States didn t implicitly supported the revolution, their duplicity and unwillingness to fix the problem indirectly helped the war effort. During the month of October 1835, the newly formed New Orleans Grey regiment took the road to Nacogdoches, entered Texas by the Sabine river and reached San Antonio de Bexar(San Antonio) by December. Cheer is a big part of who I am it taught me how to be loud when rooting for my team, helped me build my confidence and also to get back up when I fall down. Pop Warner was the first group I was in for cheer and the first group I got to do competition with. The practices were also outside with no mats. It was the first time I started to learn how to jump, stunt and make cheers. Getting high and level jumps are a struggle since day one. Each day you want to improve but you have to work hard. Stunting is a lot of fun except when you get dropped. You have to be super careful or you will hurt yourself or others. I learned to get back up again when I fall. Cheers are everything, they help you cheer on your team and you can show off a bit. When we got our first uniforms and I was as happy as can be. The uniforms and bows make you feel like a real cheerleader. They mean a lot, especially your first one. It was a great time to make friends and great bonds. My first friendships started there, right on the grassy cheer and football field. You grow up with these people for years and get to know them and create special ... We also got the shot to make a dance and be able to perform them at games. We got old wrestling mats to use but they were not very protective. We sadly could not compete anymore. Instead of finding means of connecting with their children, some parents are joining social media sites, talking more on the phone, checking emails or watching their favorite reality shows. They are becoming more dependent on technology and that creates a division between a parent and a child. So what does this mean? Well, it means that parents may be taking their children to parks but are not joining them to play. It means that parents are rushing their conversations with their children, it means that parents may be passively encouraging their children to stay indoors on their laptops and I pads instead of exploring nature. It may also indicate to children that their parents don t think they are important because they do not have their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How Somatic Experience Is Reflected In Spoken Therapy This workshop focuses on how somatic experience is reflected in spoken therapy. The workshop offers the perspective of a DMT and her endeavors to integrate this approach in her training in verbal psychotherapy. By using somatic experiences we will explore ways in which body awareness informs clinical practice. Followed by examples that illustrate the movement beyond the polarity of verbal and nonverbal. Participants will have a chance to see how bodily practice are used in verbal therapy. Finally, using both somatic and cognitive reflection, we will attempt to embrace the tension between dichotomizing and integrating the verbal and the nonverbal. This workshop will provide a dance/movement therapy perspective to analyze spoken therapy. It will be focused on possible areas of integration and overlap that could make the bodily interventions and movement observation tools applicable in spoken therapy. After obtaining a Master degree in English literature, he joined the police department from which he must have by now retired. He is believed to have settled down in New Delhi. The strangest and the most interesting fact of his life is that while serving his country as a policeman, he has been English writing poetry, in which he has made a name. Functioning as a police officer and writing poetry do not go well together. The violence would be caused by mutual hatred which prevails between two different groups of the people. The poet goes about looking for the places where this violence might break out. Violence would lead to killings; and the poet looks for the possible places where death might raise its head. Dead Bodies Kept in the Mortuary: The poet then speaks about the mortuary where the persons killed in violence would be taken and kept for post mortem or for identification by the relatives who would naturally like to take away those dead bodies in order to bury them or cremate them, as the case may be. If kept in a mortuary even for a few days, a dead body begins to stink because of the decomposition which takes place. Not even the sweet smelling substances like rose water and flowers can drown that foul smell. There is, in the mortuary, the dead body of a woman whose husband had cut off her nose on a suspicion of her having adulterous relations with another man. After having cut off her nose he had even stabbed her in breast, thus puncturing her lungs. The Human Capacity for Adjustment: Man, says the poet, can adjust himself to different conditions. For example, a dead man, if buried in the earth, remains there firmly. If the same man were to be cremated, he would allow the fire to consume him quickly. If the dead body were thrown to the birds (like the vultures and the kites), he would let his flesh be eaten up without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Classical Conditioning and the Pupil Dilation Response National University of Singapore Department of Psychology PL1101E: INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY Question 2 Classical Conditioning and the Pupil Dilation Response Here is a simple classical conditioning experiment that you can perform on yourself at home. You will need a bell (or something you can ring), a hand held mirror, and a room that becomes completely dark when the light is turned off. Hold the bell while standing in the room near the light switch. Once in position, you should ring the bell and then immediately turn off the light. After waiting in total darkness for about 15 seconds, turn the light back on. Wait another 15 seconds with the light on, and then ring the bell and immediately turn the light back off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After blindfolding a friend that is seated on the chair with his or her legs positioned one over the other, sound the buzzer before immediately tapping your friend just below his or her knee with the clinical hammer. Wait for 5 seconds before repeating this procedure for 20 to 30 times, making sure in each trial that the buzzer is sounded immediately before the tapping of your friend s knee. After numerous pairings, it is theoretically possible to observe a reflexive knee jerk even without tapping your friend s knee, once the buzzer sounds. In this classical conditioning experiment, the tapping of the person s knee with a clinical hammer is the UCS, as it is a naturally occurring stimulus that elicits the UCR, which in this case is the reflexive knee jerk action. The distinctive sound given out by the buzzer was initially the NS, but eventually became the CS, after 20 to 30 pairings with the UCS within close intervals of 5 seconds during the experiment. It has become a stimulus that is subsequently capable of eliciting a learned reflex response on its own (CR) which was originally an UCR, because it has been paired with the original UCS. This can be seen from the results shown by the classical conditioning experiment conducted above. After the numerous pairings between the sound given out by the buzzer (NS) and the tapping of the knee using a clinical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Steven Johnson Watching Tv Makes You Smarter Summary In modern day, television is very prominent in many people s lives. This brings attention to the question of whether or not watching television makes you smarter. Some argue that because of complex shows such as 24, the culture is getting more cognitively demanding, not less (278). However, some believe that mass culture follows a path declining steadily toward lowest common denominator standards, presumably because the masses want dumb, simple pleasures and big media companies try to give the masses what they want (278). In Steven Johnson s article, Watching TV Makes You Smarter, he asserts that exactly what his title suggests. He believes this because of something he calls the Sleeper Curve. The Sleeper Curve is the concept of cognitive intricacy improving due to mass media influences. Johnson does an exceptional job at convincing myself and other readers that watching television can, in fact, make you smarter. He does this by using the rhetorical features such as presenting dissenting opinions fairly, using relevant examples, and using personal pronouns. Johnson improved his ... By using the pronoun us, he not only added familiarity and a personal aspect to the article, but he categorized himself as one with the readers. This helps his argument cause by putting him on the same level as his readers. This allows the audience to empathize with his opinions. Johnson asserts, In pointing out some of the ways that popular culture has improved our minds, I am not arguing that parents should stop paying attention to the way their children amuse themselves (293). The same effect occurs when he uses the pronoun ours. By using personal pronouns throughout his article, Johnson connected with his audience and made them more receptive to his ...
