Origin of the 1905 Russian Revolution Essay
Origin of the 1905 Russian Revolution
Russia existed in turmoil at the close of the 19th century. This tumultuous atmosphere spilled over into
the new century. This time period is a portrait of a country in a state of constant change. However, this
change was far more problematic to Russia that similar progress of western European nations. An
examination of the revolutionary period of 1905 presents the inevitability of such a revolution. Russia
s rapid industrialization and modernization had inherent problems. Typically, countries, which
undergo rapid periods of industrialization, subvert the well being of the common individual in favour
of the progress of the nation. This was the case in a rapidly industrializing Russian ... Show more

The former is the Russia of our intellectuals and of the people; the other is an anachronism, deeply
rooted in the past, and defended in the present by an omnipresent bureaucracy. The one spells liberty;
the other, despotism.
Throughout the history of Russia, its people have had the increasingly prevalent problem of
representation. The peasant commune was essentially the only bastion of representative government in
Russia. However, the peasant commune had little influence in any political forum above that of the
village or farming community. The divining difficulty of Russia in this period was the power of Tsar
Nicholas II. His ideals were rooted in the distant past of autocrats and despots. Though he wished his
nation to modernize in its production and industrialization processes, he refused to accept political
change. He continued to impose his will on a vast empire of some 129 million people through a small
imperial bureaucracy, which served at the sovereign s pleasure. These ancient political views were
circumspect in a nation attempting to modernize and improve its status within the world community.
Russian history has been characterized as an enduring line of revolution and reaction. In efforts to

How Nikola Tesla Changed America
Sam Larsen
Mr. Snelgrove
English 12

A Man Who Changed America Imagine a world with a power plant every two miles, a massive
amount of wiring and overall more expensive power. This was the world that Thomas Edison
envisioned for the world when he wanted to introduce Direct Current into the United States, but many
knew this was an inferior system in comparison to Alternating Current. Nikola Tesla was the man who
made AC power possible in the United States, and efficient power possible. Nikola Tesla indeed
changed the world with his influence as an inventor and discoveries in the field of electricity. Tesla
indeed changed the world through his inventions and was also an extremely interesting human being.

He was quite charismatic when he did go to social gatherings, he was a positive influence on others
and was such a unique personality that he became good friends with Mark Twain, spending large
amounts of time with him. His oddness is what makes him such an interesting person along with his
amazing findings in the scientific field. He was incredibly germophobic, refusing to shake hands with
people and found people who weren t clean appalling. He detested overweight people, firing his
secretary for being overweight. He was obsessed with the number three, he lived most of his life in a
hotel room number 3327 and on the thirty third floor, both divisible by three. He absolutely hated
pearls, they made him sick to his stomach. Later in his life his mind began to drift to the more
absolutely senile region on the insanity scale, he told people that he could create a death ray, saying
that he could fire a condensed amount of particles long distances to kill someone. He thought that
humans should be selectively bred, eliminating the lesser of the species, granted that was a popular
opinion at the time. The most insane obsession he had was with pigeons, he said he had fed thousands
of pigeons over the years. He fell in love with one of the pigeons, saying I have been feeding pigeons,
thousands of them for years. But there was one, a beautiful bird, pure white with light grey tips on its
wings; that one was different. It was a female. I had only to wish and call her and she would come
flying to me. I loved that pigeon as a man loves a woman, and she loved me. As long as I had her,
there was a purpose to my life (Sei) Tesla s diet was also extremely queer in his later years, not only
was he a vegetarian but had an extremely limited diet because of his dire financial circumstances in
his later years. Obviously

Virtue is not Different for a Man and a Woman as Plato...
When I read Meno and how Plato talks about virtue being different for different people. I agree with
his statement to a certain degree, according to Oxford Dictionaries virtue means a quality considered
morally good or desirable in a person. I can see why Plato would say that virtue is different based on a
person s quality to be taught. But for him to say that it is different for a man and a woman I do not
agree with this statement. Plato is making virtue being different due to gender. But either person, male
or a female have a biological state or disposition obtaining virtue. I think that virtue is different for
some people due to learned behavior in their upbringing. A person can acquire virtue by the values and
morals being taught or a sense of behavior, and habits are being formed whether they are good, bad,
right or wrong as children. Many of us have formulated our views based on what we have heard, seen,
or were taught to believe. I feel that Social class and culture has a great deal to do with some of the
displaced morals and values such as ethical subjectivism according to Jean Jacques Rousseau what a
person feels is right is right, and what a person feel is wrong is wrong (rousseau p.223). In the article
on Ethical Subjectivism written by Jean Jacques Rousseau stating that each person determines what is
morally right. She gives an example of Emily and Jorge; Jorge steals Emily s lap top and he feel as

The Importance Of Formative Assessment
A formative assessment is a planned process in which assessment elicited evidence of students status
is used by teachers to adjust their ongoing instructional procedures or by students to adjust their
current learning tactics. (Popham, 2017) A teacher focuses on their students by evaluating their
learning to be able to give the students a framework for a grade on a specific subject. This evaluation,
or assessment, helps a teacher come to a result on if the student has mastered a specific skill or subject
concept. There are two types of assessments, the summative assessments are conducted after a unit or
certain time period to determine how much learning has taken place and what progress the students
have achieved. Formative assessment is intended to modify teaching and learning in order to find the
best strategy or alternative strategies to help students become better learners and to help teachers
improve their instruction for sure student success. Though it is important to use the assessments for
grades and deciding where that student is at educationally, teachers really need to remind themselves
and focus on using the formative assessment for learning.
Teachers who use formative assessment is able to deliver a learning target instruction that addresses
the appropriate unit requirements, with this, teachers do not wait until a test or essay to decide on
whether their students have succeeded in mastering the subject or if a plan of review will be needed;

Reducing Poverty Essay
Reducing Poverty
Poverty is the United States is a major issue and continues to worsen as housing is becoming less
affordable for many people across the nation. People that do find housing are often restricted to low
income areas that have few opportunities. In the low income areas there are few jobs and the quality of
schools are poor and keep the people in the cycle. To offset this cycle money needs to be put into the
education system in these lower income areas to offset this cycle. Education allows for people to have
more opportunities and would increase the incentive to live in low income areas. With a quality
education that is equal to the suburbs it would give the children much more opportunities to improve
themselves and exit the cycle. This cycle is living in low income areas gives children a poor education
due to the schools lacking money and resources; without the needed education the student is not able
to get a good job. Without the well paying job that person is not able to afford housing and has to
living in affordable housing that is located in the low income areas. By breaking this cycle with
increased education it is possible for people to get out the cycle that ties them to that area. Education
is the foundation to success and it very important that is equal and everyone receives similar
opportunities through that education.
Affordable housing is where it all begins, it is important to have affordable housing in nicer
neighborhoods, like McKinney in

The Characteristics Of The Italian Architecture
Architecture is one of the most important parameters on the basis of which the culture and the
renaissance of the race or ethnic group can be judged. It is a true fact that architecture is one of the
best mirrors that reflects the true colors of the culture and the heritage of a group if people. Every
ethnic group that has an individual and strong character has definite architectural traits. The British
and the colonial rule lefts its own marks in their architecture, so did the Mughals and the Arabs. The
same also can be said about the Italian architecture. The Italian renaissance was the oldest cultural
movements that have been witnessed by the history of the world. Traits and reflections of this

Hence it can be said that this is a building that did have religious connotations in the ten contemporary
times. However the building does not exhibit any image or statute of the ancient roman gods (Jones,
2014). Hence it is not clear that which are the specific gods to whom the architecture or the building
had been dedicated. The very look of the porch and the decorations of the pediment also indicates at
the fact that the building could have been used by the ancient kings to call for assembles for meeting
their special nobles or even a large crowd of the general masses. In this context it can be said that the
Pantheon did have social, cultural and also political importance and implications. The pantheon is the
first example of classic architecture. This is a building where the interiors of the building have
received more attention that the exterior of the building. It is a fine specimen of ancient roman
architecture that has been influenced by the Greek architecture to a great extent. The yellow marble

layout of the temple (MacDonald, 2002). Ravages of

Imposing Congressional Term Limits
Imposing Congressional term limits for the members of the congress would be a terrific idea. This is
because if the Congress knows that their position in Congress is limited, they will get things done.
Mark Levin, author of The Liberty Amendment stated that no person may serve more than 12 years as
a member of congress. 12 years is enough for Congress to pass new laws. Now if the propose law has
not been approved by the other members of the Congress by the time their term is over, then the next
person that steps up can continue to pursue the law. No members should stay longer than they are
supposed to. The term limit is necessary because there are other people in power that has been there

Computers Are A Necessary Part Of Our Lives Day Essay
Computers are indeed a necessary part of our lives day in and out. Some of us need to face them all
day, others spend only a few hours or less. Nevertheless it is undeniable all of us get to a certain point
in time where our eyes feel the strain of using it. How can we avoid computer eyestrain? Here are a
few pointers to help our eyes stay healthy. Break up the time we spend on the computer. For those that
need to spend hours at a time on the computer, the degree of eyestrain often correlates with the length
of usage of the computer. Taking a very short break after 30 minutes e.g. even if only for 1 minute will
help to reduce the fatigue. Use eye lubricants when necessary. When using the computer, most of us
stare at the screens because we are concentrating on something, This reduces the blink rate and results
in dry eyes. For some, just resting the eyes by closing it for a short period helps to get our eyes
sufficiently moist again, however some people s eyes are so dry that they need regular lubricants to
alleviate the symptoms. Use eye lubricants that are recommended by your doctor. Do not get into the
habit of using steroidal based eyes or eyedrops that cause vessel constriction (giving the false security
of having white eyes) as these can cause future unwanted side effects such as glaucoma. When using
lubricants, those with severe dry eyes should use it on a regular basis rather than waiting for their eyes
to feel pain or discomfort first. Relax

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner
Comparison and Contrast
Introduction
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner are two story lines created in a different
era, Frankenstein being an early published novel on the creation of an experimental monster that longs
to have a normal existence whilst Blade Runner is a more modern take to a future society where there
have been genetically engineered robots named replicas that are in appearance indistinguishable from
human beings which choose to escape to the planet earth in search of extending their life spans.
The comparison of similarities between the two stories begins with the most simple and obvious being

To contrast the two stories is relatively simple; the two films share forms of differences in era and a
basic human acceptance. Starting with era, Frankenstein is an early production/novel in which
scientifically a creature is created and serves as a warning how something that could prove well in
future can itself turn drastically wrong. This is also shown in the film Blade Runner providing a
simplicity for humans turns wrong with the creation of the replica robots being used as an ease in
which they get sick of and in turn escape to humanity having only a 4 year life span in which they try
to find a way to extend. This is different to Frankenstein s approach choosing instead to learn of
humanity and tries finding a way to be accepted instead of trying to merge and hide in humanity.
The human acceptance between both films is significantly different but in turn not so much,
Frankenstein for example is unaccepted because of his physical appearance and general attitude to the
human community for their reactions against him, whilst the replicas from the film Blade Runner are
accepted as they look and act alike to human beings which from a regular human their differences
would be hard to distinguish. Frankenstein is unaccepted in human

How Technology Is Impacting Globalization
Globalization is the process by which people, businesses and countries become more connected and
interdependent. With new technology it has become so much easier to access data, from anywhere in
the world. The world has many problems that cannot be fixed without globalization and by moving
towards one global culture. The world is moving towards one global culture because different cultures
are adapting and sharing ideas of others that are gradually changing the way people in these cultures
live. The world will benefit with globalization because it will increase the interaction and relationships
between countries, and improve technology to create a stronger plan on how to protect the
environment.
Technology is impacting globalization. Transportation, cheap telephone service, email, computers and
instant capital flows made the world more interdependent. Travel, communication, and interaction
between countries has increased. This interaction between countries has moved the world towards one
global culture because it will help with improving long standing problems such as the environment.
For example, climate change has threatened the well being of citizens around the world. Food and
water shortage are just a few examples. Moving towards one global society can help eliminate some of
these problems by creating a stronger system of providing resources with food and water shortages to
vulnerable countries. Technology can help detect natural disasters sooner to bring awareness to

Why Is Socrates Wrong
Socrates is known as the father of Western philosophy . In his teachings, he encouraged people to
question life and not listen to what they were told. He inspired people to search for answers, and reject
popular beliefs. As a result, Socrates was brought to trial by the dikasts (male jurors) on two charges.
Socrates had three premises that all led to the conclusion of him not being innocent and the charges
being false.
First, Socrates defended himself against the charge of corrupting the youth in Athens. Socrates
explained that he would be also be harming himself if he was intentionally corrupting the youth.
Socrates was surrounding himself with people who would follow his beliefs, not people he was trying
to corrupt. In the bible it says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father was Sophroniscus who was a stone mason. Socrates learned from his father while receiving
a basic Greek education. After working for his father for a few years he pursued philosophy. Socrates s
married Xanthippe and they had three sons together. Socrates cared more about the youth of Athens s
than his own sons. This shows that Socrates was not devoted to his family, but cared about his
teachings. This also proves that Socrates was not committing a crime, but doing what he felt was his
calling.
It is impossible to claim that Socrates is guilty of the crimes he was charged with. Socrates did not act
intentionally. He thought he was doing what he was called to do and felt he was inspiring people to
think in a new way. His teachings go against the norm which many people did not agree with.
Socrates accepted his punishment of a death sentence (drinking hemlock) since he knew he died a
hero. He showed no remorse for his actions, but instead mocked the jurors after he was sentenced.
This shows that Socrates knew his punishment was a joke since he committed no crime. Socrates
believed, even before he died that he did the right thing by speaking out against the authority. Plato
said, Such was the end of our friend, a man, I think, who was the wisest and justest, and the best man I

Emperor Of China Self Portrait Of Kanghsi
The Emperor of China: Self Portrait of Kanghsi is a collection of the personal memoirs and writings of
the Qing Emperor Kangxi who ruled and expanded China during the late 17th century. Translated into
English by Jonathan D. Spence, Emperor of China provides a glimpse into the life of China s longest
reigning emperor during the beginning China s last ruling dynasty. Kangxi records his thoughts to
provide guidance to future generations of Qing emperors. The Emperor s writings served as evidence
of his life acting in accordance with both Chinese principles and Manchu principles. Emperor of
China displays Emperor Kangxi s philosophies on ruling through humility and the struggles of duality
he faced in maintaining the military tradition of his Manchu ancestors while at the same time
conforming to the Confucian principles of his Chinese court. Emperor Kangxi was born in 1654 and

Soccer Vs American Culture
Two of the most popular sports worldwide have drastically different followings. Even though people
say soccer is more popular, there is no real debate on why football is king. Both sports have impacted
citizens and changed cultures, but which one is ultimately better?
The first football game was played about one hundred and fifty years ago, and since has grown to have
the largest followings in the United States. American people have grown up in a society that is
swarmed by a Footballistic Culture. During the fall season all talks and conversations are about how
good the Patriots are doing or who has the best fantasy team, but by now this seems normal. To an

The United States has its own favoritism of sports, and is captivated by football. Soccer, for the rest of
the world, is an all time classic. It brings neighborhoods, family, and teams together to participate in a
game that seems a little simple. The problem with soccer is that for some it s too basic, there aren t
enough opportunities to score and the players seem to just run around for ninety minutes. What soccer
lacks is the depth of strategy and the ability for players to specialize. Some plays can be attempted, but
they are usually unsuccessful due to the position of the teams players and the lack of communication
across the field. When players are halfway across the field, it s difficult to communicate a play and
getting closer requires running which results in a loss of energy. Another reason why soccer isn t as
interesting is the fact that scoring occurs infrequently and sometimes never. Nobody wants to sit in a
stadium for three hours to watch a game where the final score will be one to zero; where s the
enjoyment in that! The overall play of the game comes off as boring, watching athletes kick a ball up
the field makes the game unbearable to watch. Arguably one of the worst features about soccer is the
fact that athletes never change sides, resulting in some players striking upfront while the others hang
back for defense.

Essay on Shelby Foote s Shiloh
Shelby Foote s Shiloh
In the novel Shiloh, historian and Civil War expert Shelby Foote delivers a spare, unflinching account
of the battle of Shiloh, which was fought over the course of two days in April 1862. By mirroring the
troops movements through the woods of Tennessee with the activity of each soldier s mind, Foote
offers the reader a broad perspective of the battle and a detailed view of the issues behind it. The battle
becomes tangible as Foote interweaves the observations of Union and Confederate officers, simple
foot soldiers, brave men, and cowards and describes the roar of the muskets and the haze of the gun
smoke. The author s vivid storytelling creates a rich chronicle of a pivotal battle in American history.

This is a really small book (just over 200 pages) and while the images are graphic and the characters
accessable, the author just doesn t have the space to spread out and let the reader develop a real
emotional response to these characters and their actions. Nor is he able to provide any perspective on
the battle and what it means even for the individual characters he has presented.
I think it helps to have read the section in his narrative history of the Civil War that deals with Shiloh.
But this means that the novel doesn t really stand on its own. The reader must come equiped with prior
knowledge or be left with questions that will require some research. Perhaps not bad, but I would have
preferred a more comprehensive treatment something more like Tom Wicker s Unto This Hour. That s

Fans of Shelby Foote s massive three volume Narrative History of the Civil War, (and I am the work s
biggest fan), will surely find something they like in Foote s earlier novel about the battle of Shiloh. I
couldn t help thinking, however, that Foote s real calling is as historian and commentator, and his
effort to write a novel here seems to be a bit off the mark.
Perhaps unfairly, novels of the Civil War tend to get compared to Michael Shaara s brilliant Killer

The Injustices found in Banana Cultivation on People and the Environment
On average, a human being consumes about 3 meals a day. While many people eat whatever they
please, there are many individuals who choose to live and maintain a healthy life style. While almost
any type of food is available in our stores and markets here in the U.S., this does not mean much of
produce we consume is actually grown here. Especially when it comes to the fruits and vegetables we
consume every day, many of them are grown elsewhere. While we import much of our fresh produce,
many people fail to see the complications these countries and farmers go through on a daily basis to
get us these crops we need. A fruit like bananas for instance has more of a history than many people

Comparison Of The Book And Movie
Imagine you were stuck in a world where everyone is out to get you. Everyone you know is infected
with a rage that makes them target you, and only you. They will go through whatever it takes to rip
you to shreds, even if it kills them. The novel starts off in quite a sickening way, jumping straight into
the plot and describing a boy getting brutally murdered by his mother and sister. They didn t care that
it was his birthday, they only wanted his blood. Through the next few chapters we are greeted by the
three main characters, Daisy, Cal, and Brick. These people have one thing in common, and it s that
everyone is trying to kill them. They band together with other teens to try and figure out why the
world is out to kill them.

Well, I was partly correct. I found the story to be absolutely thrilling in the beginning, with me just
being thrown straight into the action. The vivid descriptions of the zombies were downright chilling. I
am a huge fan of zombie movies, and was pleasantly surprised that these depictions are just as creepy
as in the movies. What interests me is how similar these people are compared to one of my favorite
zombie movie, 28 Days Later. In both the novel and in the movie, the zombie like creatures are
infected with something that gives them an insurmountable rage, making them want to destroy every
person in their path. These zombies are fast and have no thresholds for pain, giving them the ability to
run themselves into the ground in order to capture their prey. The main difference though, is that in

The Media: Manipulating the public? The media is one of the most significant agents of socialization
in our society. This means that to some extent, the media has some power over our opinions or
expected behavior as citizens. This necessarily is not a horrible thing but it is not marvelous either. It
has been reported that the average American is exposed to up to 600 625 ads every single day. We are
constantly bombarded with advertisements on a daily basis through posters, television and even

This commercial was successful in convincing me to purchase their product through a central route.
When carefully analyzed, one can see that the advertisers chose a prominent issue (acne), which is a
common area of insecurities among a reasonable portion of our society and provided a solution. To
support their solution to skin blemishes, they revealed customer testimonies, recruited a celebrity
spokesperson, displayed diversity in consumers, showed professional expert authorization and above
all, implemented that s not all technique. The commercial commences by identifying factors such as
makeup, oils and sweat which contribute to our skin problems and leads to acne among men and
women. Then, it proceeds to call out failed attempts such as washing our faces with bare hands and
paying for outrageously expensive facial tools. Next, the deep cleansing brush was introduced. This
new device will supposedly wash away all impurities and dirt from our pores which we cannot get to
by washing with our bare hands. Surprisingly, this sixty five dollar brush is offered free of charge
when the product is purchased. To prove the authenticity of this free yet effective brush, two qualified
dermatologists are presented. This improves the credibility of the product and its deep cleansing
power . In order to retain the audience s attention, create relativity and improve the attractiveness of
the product, two celebrities: Lily Aldridge (a Victoria s secret angel) and Sarah Michelle Gellar
provided their personal testimonies about the product. Bear in mind that these celebrities are regarded
as sweethearts and generally really nice people. This evokes the halo effect that viewers will begin to
associate with the product. To solidify their hold on the audience, they utilize that s not all technique
by promising to add a second brush head which increases the value of the product.

Research Paper On Afternoon Tea
Afternoon Tea Tea Drinking Ritual of The British s Patricians
British are illustrious as a fan of tea. England is the country outside of Asia, which is known as the
world s largest tea consumer. Since it was first introduced in the 17th century, the popularity of tea in
Britain is so shot. This popularity led to the motto of tea time which eventually became an essential
activity in the lives of the British. British predilection to drink tea evolved a tradition of drinking tea in

Theme Of Expressionism In Bury The Dead
The characters, conflicts and physical settings in Bury the Dead are all carefully constructed to initiate
a specific emotional response. They are not created to be analyzed as being apart of reality. However,
expressionism is not a subset of complete fantasy, it is a distilled form of reality in which an artist or
author can focus specifically on an event, person or group of people and the subsequent inner reaction
he or she wants to make aware to the audience. Expressionism can be found throughout literature, art
and theater, therefore it is not difficult to exhibit similar reactions found in Bury the Dead in other
mediums or even settings. A new transposition of Shaw s work would ardently relate the stark themes
to a modern audience. The second facet of Shaw s play that stands out as essential is the use of
sardonic wit in his dialogue. Verbal quips can be described as sardonic if they are intended to criticize
or demean a person or group of people. For example, in Bury the Dead, the Doctor references the
apathy of the Generals during his examinations.
Shaw, primarily because the play is a form of propaganda, constructs the dialogue of every character
to carry the weight of his thesis of dichotomy. This realization connects the sardonic wit back to the
expressionistic characteristics. The characters and the setting are literary marionettes dancing to the
music of propaganda, holding no free intelligence unaligned to Shaw s themes. In a vast sea of
consumerism and

Thesis Statement On Civic Spaces
Hrushita Davey

Masters in Architecture Thesis Proposal
December 2015
Guided by: Professor Jigna Desai
Abstract
My point of departure for this thesis is that in many of our post industrial cities, the civic realm has
increasingly shrunk and the private realm has continuously expanded and civic spaces are arguably
more important today than ever. Most people are found using the unplanned public spaces rather than
the planned public spaces. The issue is approached by focusing on a middle ground between urban
planning and design of individual buildings. The intent is to design an insertion that responds to
specific features of the existing urban structure and the regulatory framework currently in place. Here
the juxtaposition of the old and new becomes the visible passage of time. The re appropriation of old
forms includes what maybe called the neo vernacular as one mode of intellectual justification for
architecture in our times. This proposition is an attempt to demonstrate a continuous interface between
public and private spaces and between access networks and inhabitable spaces.
Keywords: civic spaces, civic realm, public, middle ground, neo vernacular

The impact on civic spaces post liberalization and the consequent globalization has been tremendous.
Today, most of the emerging civic spaces are sadly being designed like commodities. The other very
obvious shift is seen in the aspiration of cities at large to emerge as front runners in the global rat race.
This global ambition unfortunately fails to acknowledge the local. While it may be true that the
Government, both at the central and state level is trying to address and bring amends to the existing
condition (including the regulatory framework) of the civic realm, there is still a long way to go for

Analysis Of Junot Diaz s The Dreamer
The Cost of Education
Life is a constant roller coaster ride of grueling struggles and bittersweet accomplishments. There are
also times where one neither wins nor loses, but lessons are always learned. What we do during that
time of strife and struggle defines who we will become later. Those who embrace the change and
hardship, while finding a way to make it through, will become stronger in the end. In The Dreamer ,
by Junot Diaz, the dream of a young girl to become a nurse never comes to fruition, but her struggles
and sacrifices enabled her to move out of a Third World country. Due to his mother s sacrifices, her
son Diaz is able to live a better life, achieving his goals of becoming a writer because she pushed him
to better himself with her courage.
In The Dreamer , Diaz writes about his mother s rough childhood in a poor Third World country,
before moving to the United States. ...but she grew up one of those poor Third World Country girls.
The brutalized backbone of our world. (Diaz 128). Those of us who have never witnessed a Third
World country wouldn t really understand what it was like. To have lived through what his mother
experienced would have broken most children s spirits. The kind of Dominican girl who was destined
never to get off the mountain or out of the campo (Diaz 128). Most who are born in the poverty
stricken slums of Third World countries are destined to die there as well. In this story the author s

Description Of The Barn Cats Essay
Scenario:
It s autumn and, just like any other season, you re hard at work at your barn. Your barn cats are hard at
work, as well, hunting and munching on the overabundant rodent population nesting in your hay. In a
brief moment of rest, you remove your gloves, wincing as the cold air hits your dry, cracked skin. One
of the barn cats also joins you in your reprieve and you reach down to run your hands through her fur.
Briefly, you notice a bit of nasal discharge and some scabs on her paws and face, but you chalk it up to
the weather and get back to work.
A couple of days go by and you begin to notice pus like sores on your hands. They re inflamed and red
and suddenly you re reminded of the barn cat you pet a while back. Deciding to give her a more
thorough once over, you return to the barn on your precious day off to hunt her down. It s easy enough
to find her; she s resting atop a pile of blankets while the other cats are out and about hunting. She
appears thinner than you remember her being and she barely even registers your approach, but you
immediately notice rodent bites on her face and paws that appear infected.
Upon closer inspection, beneath her fur there are multiple crusted wounds, some circular bumps while
others appear to be swollen and flat. The skin is also broken in some places, equally as crusty and
flaking off in places. You know that these are ulcerated nodules and, regardless of an underlying
infection, they need to be treated before they get worse

Write a 350 to 700 word response identifying the major regions of the brain and what functions of
behavior the systems of each region control.
lt;Insert Response Here gt; The brain is a crucial part of the human body. Our abilities to learn,
remember things, and feel emotions are controlled by this very vital organ. Also, the spinal cord is a
crucial part of the central nervous system. The nerves that send messages to the body are located all
throughout the spinal cord. Additionally, within the brain there are three major regions. They are
called the central core, the limbic system, and the cerebral cortex, which has four hemispheres. The
four hemispheres are the occipital lobe, the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe, and the frontal lobe.
Found within the central core region of the brain are five different regions. Each region controls
different behavioral functions within the human body. These regions are called the medulla, pons,
cerebellum, thalamus, and hypothalamus.
The medulla is responsible for many vital functions, such as; the heart rate, the regulation of
respiration, and even the blood pressure flow throughout the body. The pons region of the brain is
responsible for the sleep wake cycles. This regulates when the body needs to sleep and awakes the
body when it has had enough sleep. The region called the cerebellum controls bodily movement and

A Research Study Of The Airius Air Pear With Phi Cell Units
As a company, you have already done your research and began stepping in the proper direction for

which I will point out later. However, there are a few major points to consider when comparing our
products to theirs. The Airius Air Pear with PHI cell (which is the unit(s) you have currently), are
designed to equal out the temperature of the air in a room while emitting Ionized Hydro Peroxides to
sanitize and disinfect all of the air and surfaces. These units have a cost to you of $2,000 each with a
recommended 1500 2000 sq ft operating space and are FDA approved. The unit is also designed to last
for 2yrs with a $300 parts replacement to renew and must be done by your staff. The unit will also
need to be maintained by your staff throughout the years. The one negative aspect I mentioned before,
is that while emitting these Ionized Hydro Peroxides, the unit also emits a small level of ozone (as

Nucleic Acid Investigation
The purpose of the introductory activity was to analyze the pH of a mixture of a strong base and weak
acid. The purpose of the guided inquiry lab was to analyze the concentration of sodium carbonate by
titrating the substance using a nitic acid solution.
Introductory Activity
5 mL of both 0.2 M ammonia and 0.1 M acetic acid were placed in separate test tubes and their pH
was determined with pH paper. A mixture was created by pouring both together and its final pH was
recorded. The strength of the acid and base was determined and whether the two had equal
concentration. Each indicator was researched (its colors when it s acidic/basic and its pH transition
range) and phenolphthalein was deemed suitable for this experiment. 5 mL of acetic acid was poured
into a test tube and 1 2 drops of phenolphthalein were added. The initial color was recorded. 10 mL of
ammonia was obtained in a graduated cylinder and using the graduated pipet, the base was added to
the acid in 1 mL increments. Upon reaching the equivalence point, the indicator color and the amount
of base required to obtain this point were recorded. The relative concentrations of the acid and base
were then estimated.

Controversy Surrounding Research And Therapeutic Use Of...
Controversy surrounding research and therapeutic use of stem cells has been a contentious and
socially polarizing matter for a few decades. Arguments lie largely between the scientific community
and the general public, although intragroup disagreements also persist today. These disparate views for
and against stem cells arise out of the bioethical implications of an inchoate innovation, the general
public s tenuous understanding of the underlying technology itself, and sociopolitical ideologies. Due
to the somewhat aged debate, recent revelations and advancements have changed the principle
arguments and should be addressed accordingly. In order to understand arguments against the use of
stem cell technology in the United States, it is crucial to understand the sociopolitical background of
its constituents. America is well known for having a varied and diverse ethnic background composing
of immigrants from around the world, but in 2012, 73% of Americans claimed Christian affiliation (3).
This overwhelming majority of Christianity means that its accompanying religious beliefs emerge in
many aspects of our sociopolitical ideology. Much of the opposition to stem cell technology is
grounded in the Christian tenet of anti abortion, which is the source of embryonic stem cells. Although
embryonic stem cells are still the gold standard in research and therapeutic use, use of non embryonic

layered attire swiftly suggesting her master title. The first shot of her shows her in a white garment
and in all the other shots she dresses in similar but more neutral colors. She evolves from being just a
beautiful woman to having more responsibility and thus toning her woman qualities to the down low.
She quenches her woman attributes and thus renders quite difficult her submission to her emotions and
feelings. Master Li is quite simply dressed with an ample kimono undermining his brilliant knowledge
of Wudan. This contrast is due to the fact that he abandons his title and takes on the very common role
of a regular man. The most interesting example here is the young Long. Her first appearance, which
was during the day, reveals a quite sophisticated lady dressed in rich clothes suggesting royalty. Later
on in the night, she hides in a ninja attire (a man attire) to commit a theft and exercise Wudan. Under
the sun she obeys the rules and let her wild rebellious desires free in the night. She aspires to a life, a
role that breaks the principles and rules of tradition. And even if she is entitled, she dares not show it
in public until much later where eventually there is breaking point. Here we see how solid the
boundaries created around a person by tradition hold strong no matter the person itself. Tradition
defines the person not the other way

Essay on The Impact of NAFTA on the U.S. Textile Industry
The Impact of NAFTA on the U.S. Textile Industry
When the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect in 1994, many expressed fears that
one consequence would be large job losses in the US textile industry as companies moved production
from the United States to Mexico. Opponents of NAFTA argued passionately, but unsuccessfully, that
the treaty should not be adopted because of the negative impact it would have on employment in the
United States, particularly in industries such as textiles. A glance at the data four years after the
passage of NAFTA suggests the critics had a point. Between 1994 and mid 1997, about 149,000 US
apparel workers lost their jobs, over 15 percent of all employment in the industry. Much of this job ...

However, the issue becomes more complicated when one takes a closer look at the data. To be sure,
there have been job losses in the US textile industry, but clothing prices in the United States have also
fallen since 1994 as textile production shifted from high cost US producers to lower cost Mexican
producers. This obviously benefits US consumers, who now have more money to spend on other
items. The cost of a typical pair of designer jeans, for example, fell from $55 in 1994 to $48 in 1997.
Nor is the fall in prices simply a result of the movement of production from the United States to
Mexico.
NAFTA has also resulted in textile production being moved from Asia to Mexico. In 1980, 83 percent
of all US textile imports came from Asia. By 1997, Asia accounted for 41 percent of US textile
imports as companies switched their source of textiles from Asia to Mexico. An example of this trend
is the US clothing retailer The Limited Inc., which in 1997 switched its source for textile products
from Sri Lanka to Mexico. According to a spokesman for The Limited, although wages in Mexico are
three time the $60 per month that apparel workers make in Sri Lanka, it s cheaper and faster to move
goods from Mexico to the United States than from Sri Lanka. Under NAFTA there are no tariffs on
imports from Mexico, but there is a 19 percent tariff levied on textile imports from Sri Lanka. When

What Was The Causes Of The Anglo-Boer War
The Anglo Boer War remains the most terrible and destructive armed conflict in the history of South
Africa. It shaped the history of South Africa in the 20th Century and therefore left a legacy marking
the end of the long process of British conquest of South African societies. Conflicting political
ideologies of imperialism and republicanism, including the tension between the political leaders, like
the Boer leader Paul Kruger and the British leader, Cecil Rhodes. These were some of the causes of
the war. The discovery of diamonds in Johannesburg and gold on the Witwatersrand also pricked the
British interest in South Africa, especially after the Global Financial Panic of 1873. The Anglo Boer
War or also known as The First South African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This angered the British and seized their lands. In 1881 the influential Boer leaders felt that they had
had enough of being British Afrikaners concluding that meetings and protests were useless triggering
the First Anglo Boer in 1880 1881. This was a classic underdog rebellion in which Boer commandos
ambushed British forces, and was conducted across forbidding distances along barely navigable
terrain (Nasson, 2006). But this was the advantage of the Boers as they knew the Terrain better that the
British and also knew how to use gun power better because of their many years of

The peasant commune was essentially the only bastion of representative government in Russia. However, the peasant commune had little influence in any political forum above that of the village or farming community. The divining difficulty of Russia in this period was the power of Tsar Nicholas II. His ideals were rooted in the distant past of autocrats and despots. Though he wished his nation to modernize in its production and industrialization processes, he refused to accept political change. He continued to impose his will on a vast empire of some 129 million people through a small imperial bureaucracy, which served at the sovereign s pleasure. I agree with his statement to a certain degree, according to Oxford Dictionaries virtue means a quality considered morally good or desirable in a person. I can see why Plato would say that virtue is different based on a person s quality to be taught. But for him to say that it is different for a man and a woman I do not agree with this statement. Plato is making virtue being different due to gender. But either person, male or a female have a biological state or disposition obtaining virtue. I think that virtue is different for some people due to learned behavior in their upbringing. A person can acquire virtue by the values and morals being taught or a sense of behavior, and habits are being formed whether they are good, bad, right or wrong as children. Many of us have formulated our views based on what we have heard, seen, or were taught to believe. I feel that Social class and culture has a great deal to do with some of the displaced morals and values such as ethical subjectivism according to Jean Jacques Rousseau what a person feels is right is right, and what a person feel is wrong is wrong (rousseau p.223). • 10. Computers Are A Necessary Part Of Our Lives Day Essay Computers are indeed a necessary part of our lives day in and out. Some of us need to face them all day, others spend only a few hours or less. Nevertheless it is undeniable all of us get to a certain point in time where our eyes feel the strain of using it. How can we avoid computer eyestrain? Here are a few pointers to help our eyes stay healthy. Break up the time we spend on the computer. For those that need to spend hours at a time on the computer, the degree of eyestrain often correlates with the length of usage of the computer. Taking a very short break after 30 minutes e.g. even if only for 1 minute will help to reduce the fatigue. Use eye lubricants when necessary. When using the computer, most of us stare at the screens because we are concentrating on something, This reduces the blink rate and results in dry eyes. For some, just resting the eyes by closing it for a short period helps to get our eyes sufficiently moist again, however some people s eyes are so dry that they need regular lubricants to alleviate the symptoms. Use eye lubricants that are recommended by your doctor. Do not get into the habit of using steroidal based eyes or eyedrops that cause vessel constriction (giving the false security of having white eyes) as these can cause future unwanted side effects such as glaucoma. When using lubricants, those with severe dry eyes should use it on a regular basis rather than waiting for their eyes to feel pain or discomfort first. Relax ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is also shown in the film Blade Runner providing a simplicity for humans turns wrong with the creation of the replica robots being used as an ease in which they get sick of and in turn escape to humanity having only a 4 year life span in which they try to find a way to extend. The problem with soccer is that for some it s too basic, there aren t enough opportunities to score and the players seem to just run around for ninety minutes. What soccer lacks is the depth of strategy and the ability for players to specialize. Some plays can be attempted, but they are usually unsuccessful due to the position of the teams players and the lack of communication across the field. When players are halfway across the field, it s difficult to communicate a play and getting closer requires running which results in a loss of energy. While almost any type of food is available in our stores and markets here in the U.S., this does not mean much of produce we consume is actually grown here. Especially when it comes to the fruits and vegetables we consume every day, many of them are grown elsewhere. The commercial commences by identifying factors such as makeup, oils and sweat which contribute to our skin problems and leads to acne among men and women. Then, it proceeds to call out failed attempts such as washing our faces with bare hands and paying for outrageously expensive facial tools. Next, the deep cleansing brush was introduced. This new device will supposedly wash away all impurities and dirt from our pores which we cannot get to by washing with our bare hands. Surprisingly, this sixty five dollar brush is offered free of charge when the product is purchased. To prove the authenticity of this free yet effective brush, two qualified dermatologists are presented. This improves the credibility of the product and its deep cleansing power . In order to retain the audience s attention, create relativity and improve the attractiveness of the product, two celebrities: Lily Aldridge (a Victoria s secret angel) and Sarah Michelle Gellar provided their personal testimonies about the product. Bear in mind that these celebrities are regarded as sweethearts and generally really nice people. This evokes the halo effect that viewers will begin to associate with the product. To solidify their hold on the audience, they utilize that s not all technique by promising to add a second brush head which increases the value of the product. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Theme Of Expressionism In Bury The Dead The characters, conflicts and physical settings in Bury the Dead are all carefully constructed to initiate a specific emotional response. They are not created to be analyzed as being apart of reality. However, expressionism is not a subset of complete fantasy, it is a distilled form of reality in which an artist or author can focus specifically on an event, person or group of people and the subsequent inner reaction he or she wants to make aware to the audience. Expressionism can be found throughout literature, art and theater, therefore it is not difficult to exhibit similar reactions found in Bury the Dead in other mediums or even settings. A new transposition of Shaw s work would ardently relate the stark themes to a modern audience. The second facet of Shaw s play that stands out as essential is the use of sardonic wit in his dialogue. Verbal quips can be described as sardonic if they are intended to criticize or demean a person or group of people. For example, in Bury the Dead, the Doctor references the apathy of the Generals during his examinations. Shaw, primarily because the play is a form of propaganda, constructs the dialogue of every character to carry the weight of his thesis of dichotomy. This realization connects the sardonic wit back to the expressionistic characteristics. The characters and the setting are literary marionettes dancing to the music of propaganda, holding no free intelligence unaligned to Shaw s themes. In a vast sea of consumerism and ... • 25. Thesis Statement On Civic Spaces Hrushita Davey PA101614 Masters in Architecture Thesis Proposal December 2015 Guided by: Professor Jigna Desai Abstract My point of departure for this thesis is that in many of our post industrial cities, the civic realm has increasingly shrunk and the private realm has continuously expanded and civic spaces are arguably more important today than ever. Most people are found using the unplanned public spaces rather than the planned public spaces. The issue is approached by focusing on a middle ground between urban planning and design of individual buildings. The intent is to design an insertion that responds to specific features of the existing urban structure and the regulatory framework currently in place. Here the juxtaposition of the old and new becomes the visible passage of time. The re appropriation of old forms includes what maybe called the neo vernacular as one mode of intellectual justification for architecture in our times. This proposition is an attempt to demonstrate a continuous interface between public and private spaces and between access networks and inhabitable spaces. Keywords: civic spaces, civic realm, public, middle ground, neo vernacular Introduction Think what it would be to have a work conceived from outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The impact on civic spaces post liberalization and the consequent globalization has been tremendous. Today, most of the emerging civic spaces are sadly being designed like commodities. While it may be true that the Government, both at the central and state level is trying to address and bring amends to the existing condition (including the regulatory framework) of the civic realm, there is still a long way to go for concrete ... • 27. Description Of The Barn Cats Essay Scenario: It s autumn and, just like any other season, you re hard at work at your barn. Your barn cats are hard at work, as well, hunting and munching on the overabundant rodent population nesting in your hay. In a brief moment of rest, you remove your gloves, wincing as the cold air hits your dry, cracked skin. One of the barn cats also joins you in your reprieve and you reach down to run your hands through her fur. Briefly, you notice a bit of nasal discharge and some scabs on her paws and face, but you chalk it up to the weather and get back to work. A couple of days go by and you begin to notice pus like sores on your hands. They re inflamed and red and suddenly you re reminded of the barn cat you pet a while back. Deciding to give her a more thorough once over, you return to the barn on your precious day off to hunt her down. It s easy enough to find her; she s resting atop a pile of blankets while the other cats are out and about hunting. She appears thinner than you remember her being and she barely even registers your approach, but you immediately notice rodent bites on her face and paws that appear infected. Upon closer inspection, beneath her fur there are multiple crusted wounds, some circular bumps while others appear to be swollen and flat. The skin is also broken in some places, equally as crusty and flaking off in places. The purpose of the guided inquiry lab was to analyze the concentration of sodium carbonate by titrating the substance using a nitic acid solution. Introductory Activity 5 mL of both 0.2 M ammonia and 0.1 M acetic acid were placed in separate test tubes and their pH was determined with pH paper. A mixture was created by pouring both together and its final pH was recorded. The strength of the acid and base was determined and whether the two had equal concentration. Each indicator was researched (its colors when it s acidic/basic and its pH transition range) and phenolphthalein was deemed suitable for this experiment. 5 mL of acetic acid was poured into a test tube and 1 2 drops of phenolphthalein were added. The initial color was recorded. 10 mL of ammonia was obtained in a graduated cylinder and using the graduated pipet, the base was added to the acid in 1 mL increments. Opponents of NAFTA argued passionately, but unsuccessfully, that the treaty should not be adopted because of the negative impact it would have on employment in the United States, particularly in industries such as textiles. However, the issue becomes more complicated when one takes a closer look at the data. To be sure, there have been job losses in the US textile industry, but clothing prices in the United States have also fallen since 1994 as textile production shifted from high cost US producers to lower cost Mexican producers. This obviously benefits US consumers, who now have more money to spend on other items. The cost of a typical pair of designer jeans, for example, fell from $55 in 1994 to $48 in 1997. Nor is the fall in prices simply a result of the movement of production from the United States to Mexico. NAFTA has also resulted in textile production being moved from Asia to Mexico. In 1980, 83 percent of all US textile imports came from Asia. By 1997, Asia accounted for 41 percent of US textile imports as companies switched their source of textiles from Asia to Mexico. An example of this trend is the US clothing retailer The Limited Inc., which in 1997 switched its source for textile products from Sri Lanka to Mexico.
