The Development Of Mathematical Psychology
Psychology established into a mathematical discipline through a series of events during history. This
establishment led to the development of mathematical psychology; a field encompassing empirical
methodology (Benjafield, 2015). Furthermore, through the implementation of math in psychology,
findings from previous and current studies of psychology influenced the plethora of knowledge
available today directly impacting society s understanding and application of psychological
phenomena. This is articulated through mathematical ideas originating from the ancient Greeks, which
inspired further research in the field abundantly, throughout the past three centuries (18th to 21st)
(Benjafield, 2015). Specifically, ideas from Euclid in ancient Greece inspired Gustav Fechner to
develop mathematical concepts in his formation of psychophysics (Zudini, 2011). In the 18th century,
arguments regarding the implementation of math in science were becoming a common query. The
field of psychometrics began during this period and early psychologists like Ernst Weber began
developing relationships between mathematical concepts (Benjafield, 2015). During the 19th century,
Gustav Fechner developed his field of psychophysics and inspired several future psychologists to
continue his work and develop their own ideas of mathematical psychology (Benjafield, 2015;
Robinson, 2010). Developments in this field instigated the notion of using experimental psychology
during World War I, and the 1950s 1970s

Goals Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory And...
Classroom management can be based on a number of researched theories or models. Research has
shown that when incidents requiring behaviour to be managed increase, learning will decrease
(Funnell, 2009, p. 482), therefore highlighting the importance for the teacher to implement successful
strategies to restrict problem behaviour. This Essay will discuss strengths and weaknesses of three
possible theories a teacher can use to manage a classroom and the student s behaviour. The theories to
be discussed will include; Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive behavioural theory and Choice theory.
Goal Centered Theory is a social discipline model of Rudolf Dreikurs that was influenced by social
phycologist Alfred Alder (Old Dominion University, 2016). The underpinning idea to this theory is
that students have a democratic say in classroom discipline and milieu. The teachers aim is to meet to
students needs satisfaction by focussing on their social relationships, feelings, thoughts and
behaviours (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014, p. 24) in a democratic way making sure that students feel both
valued and like they belong . By meeting these needs in a democratic way teachers will not only gain
more respect from their students but will also give their students a feeling of self worth (Grandmont,
2002, p. 241). This approach is based on the belief that students take responsibility for controlling
their behaviour and that they have the ability to make responsible decisions (Grandmont, 2002, p. 4).

Slaughtering Horses
A horse is an animal well known on farms, in Amish communities, used in sports and often kept as
pets. Horses are considered free spirited animals that not only provide love and fun journeys, but are
also put to work. Horses offer a strong structured body that can be used for travel, either riding on a
horse s back or using the horse to pull a carriage, leisure, emotional support and even entertainment.
In America, horses are noble animals that have impressive senses and abilities. Horses have
extraordinary balance, impressive flight or fight responses to predators and have a life span of 25 30
years, thus making a horse a longtime companion. Horses not only have an impressive resume for
religions like the Amish, who use horse and buggy to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay is not meant to judge other countries, but to make it known just what is happening to our
horses that we love dearly. To get into detail, there is no humane way to slaughter these animals.
Horses are skittish by nature making accurate pre slaughter stunning difficult and result in the horse
being tortured by enduring repeated blows, sometimes conscious dismemberment and rarely receive a
quick and painless death (The Humane Society of the United States, 2017). The last domestic plant
closed in 2007 and the USDA documented the slaughter pipeline s abundance of cruelty violations and
injuries to horses, including broken bones, bones protruding from their bodies, eyeballs hanging by a
thread of skin and gaping wounds (The Humane Society of the United States, 2017). Thankfully, the
plant was closed but we still have a problem with the export of horses for slaughter. One may argue, if
there was a way to humanely slaughter a horse would you still be against horse meat? Yes. Horses are
often seen as companions and are even used to assist mentally ill rehabilitations, almost like a dog. It
is taboo in America to slaughter and eat dog meat because dogs are domesticated. Dogs are also very
strong animals with strong senses and good fight or flight responses. However, dogs are not quite as
built as horses, and although dogs are also known to

Examples Of Conduct In Beowulf
The Anglo Saxons Ideals of Conduct in Beowulf
According Maya Angelou, I think a hero is any person really intent on making on making this a better
place for all people. These words prove true for the hero in the epic poem, Beowulf, who bravely
leaves Geatland to seek glory and protects mankind from evil monsters to make the world a better
place for people. Living in a harsh world that made survival difficult, the Anglo Saxons relied on the
community to overcome many challenge. Beowulf clearly illustrates the Anglo Saxons ideals of
conduct. In particular, the story reveals the importance of fame and glory, loyalty and strength.

sailors will first approach when sailing to Denmark. Later in the poem, before the fight, Beowulf
explains,

Which shows that he very cares about people s thoughts of him . From this excerpt of text, it is clear
that Beowulf does not want to carry weapons simply because it will give people something negative to
talk about, towards him. It would have been much easier to use weapons against Grendel, but he had to
make sure that the battle would be remembered for ages.
Loyalty emerges as another one of the defining traits of the Anglo Saxons, especially through Beowulf

Teen Prescription Drug Abuse In High School
Teen Prescription Drug Abuse
Doesn t matter what age, drugs are going to be used and abuse. From the time we are born, till the day
we die, prescription drugs are prescribed for doctor approved use. Most prescription drugs are given to
help control a disease, an imbalance, sickness, etc. With teenage drug abuse on the rise in most US
high schools, has become a problem parents are noticing among their children. Being a parent to a
teenage child who has meddled with prescription drugs has been an unbelievable eye opener. Teens
know who they get these drugs from; fellow students, friends, parents cabinets. Educating parents and
discussing the risks with teens about the effects prescription drugs can cause is important to helping
prevent this from continuing. Prescription drug abuse amongst teens in high school is becoming a
dilemma. Teens are finding it easy to get drugs at school by either buying it off other students or
getting it from friends who got it from someone else. This has become a huge problem amongst the
youth. With most high schools having campus police, they are finding it hard to crack down on drugs
entering the campus (Officer Landivar). As a mother to a teen child who has abused prescription drugs
has damaged the trust that was graciously given. US high school aged teens have abused prescription
drugs and illegal drugs. Most times it is intentional and others, peer pressure. Trust between parent and
child is damaged by the actions the child has taken.

Maybe one needs to catch this reality of continuous changing by remembering that companies can no
more stand to freeze structures and frameworks into a permanent state. Weick and Quinn (1999) used
the term episodic to allude to change that are rare, intermittent and deliberate. As per Weick and Quinn
(1999), pictures of associations that are better with rambling change incorporate those constructed
around the thought of Punctuated Equilibria. The focal dispute of the punctuated equilibrium model is
that change includes moving over and over again between long stretches of dependability and short
blast of radical (far reaching) change. The punctuated balance model is in the forefront of educational
theory it is out of sight of the knowledge of numerous firms. Truth be told, numerous firms contend by
evolving persistently. For some associations, the capacity to change quickly and consistently,
particularly by presenting fresher ideas is rising as a center skill. (Jackie Jeffery Rebecca Mathews,
2013, p.163) Nevertheless, as change is delayed in time, the companies get to be progressively
disconnected. It is here where uniqueness between the associations begins to happen, bringing about
slackening of their connections; as a radical period is experienced; say as far as a sudden innovative

German Blue Book
It is often said that history is written by the victors. Prior to the Paris Peace Conference and the
drafting of the Treaty of Versailles, one of the issues debated amongst the victorious Allies was
whether or not Germany should be allowed to retain their overseas protectorates. In the last months of
the war, the South African government, which was tied to Great Britain, published a Blue Book
concerning the vicious nature of German colonial rule in German South West Africa, the territory now
known as Namibia. In response to what they claimed to be false accusations, the German Colonial
Office published their own White Book in 1919 that addressed and refuted the charges made against
them. However, as historian Ulrike Lindner notes, The cruelty ... Show more content on

Aboriginal civil rights have been a highly debated topic in Australia for the past century. From the

The main importance of this group was essentially being one of the first Aboriginal political
organizations to form to take action against state and federal legislation in Australia.
During the 1920 s and 1930 s Australia began to see a rise in political activism among the Aboriginal
people. During this time period Australia saw Aboriginal political organizations being founded in New
South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria, and South Australia: the AAPA, The Native Union, the
AAL, the Australian Aborigines Association (AAA), the Euralian Association, and the Aborigines
Progressive Association (APA) (Attwood, 1999). All of these political organizations fought for similar
rights for aboriginal people, but they were all fought on local levels. The two organizations that were
somewhat successful at becoming national organizations and representing Aborigines throughout
Australia were the Australian Aborigines League and the Aborigines Progressive Association. Both
groups fought for similar causes. These two groups although advocating for policy change in different
regions of Australia worked together and organized two significant events that occurred during the
1930 s.
Arthur Burdeu was considered the creator of the Australian Aborigines League, which formed in the
1930 s. The major significance that lead to the AAL becoming a national organization rather than a
local organization was set in how the members viewed the role of the League. Arthur Burdeu

The low tapping on the roof signaled the arrival of yet another summer shower. My mind was

How The Profit Can Be Increase By Judged The Average...
Introduction:
The main reason for this survey is to analyse how the profit can be increase by judged the average
number of floor spaces or sales staff employed in a large retail chain. By observing the averages that
have been calculated in the Excel Spread Sheet for takings, floor spaces and staff number. it can be
possible to deduct which department needs further development and how it can be developed.
Using a simplistic mathematical scheme to serve in making the right decision, it will be explained how
to grow the profit with neither more nor less information than what was provided in the dataset.
Conclusion: An average number typically suggests the mean value in a data set; however, in this
analyse has been used two different types of averages which are: the mean and median. As the mean is
considered to be the one giving the most accurate information about the average number of takings
since it s about adding up all the numbers form the data set and divided them by the total while the
median represents only the value that stands in the middle of the data set; in that way resulting a
common mistake such as: leaving one of the averages aside and not analysing the accurate information
from the data set. However, there are no evidences to prove that both numbers are correct, as both are
considered to be types of averages in statistics. On the column chart provided below representing the
average takings for All Outlets, it can be seen a massive dropdown

Disadvantages Of Web-Based Learning
Web based learning leads to the change in roles of teachers and students in learning processes. This is
due to the fact that web based learning applies the concept of learner centered approach in learning. To
compare, in traditional ways of teaching and learning, teachers played a big role, which was as the
giver or provider of knowledge (Web based Learning: Good or Bad?). Students during that time
depended solely on teachers to give information about the topics covered in every subject that they
were learning. It is understandable because technology during that time was not as advanced as the
technology that we have nowadays. Therefore, another way of students to gain additional information
about a particular subject was by going to libraries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in the article of Orientation to Web based Learning , unlike in traditional way in learning
which assesses students achievement through oral and written examinations, web based learning
introduces more innovative approach, such as through forums, online quizzes and e portfolio (Web
based Learning: Good or Bad?). This new assessment approach does not only encourage students be
more creative, for example in conducting a forum, but also helps them to improve their soft skills,
especially communication skills and computer skills. This will then lead to the change in role of
teachers as those new assessment approach stated earlier would be able to overcome the issue of
examination oriented teaching , which only strives for students academic excellence in examination.
Teachers can now focus on helping students to pass their examinations with flying colors, as well as
polish their soft skills, such as leadership and cooperative skills, in order to produce well balanced
students academically and socially. Hence, it can be concluded that application of web based learning
has led to change in the role of teachers and students in learning processes.
Web based learning is an innovative approach which brings various advantages to teaching and
learning processes. There are a lot of advantages, or prospects of implementing web based learning in
educational institutions, but the most significant ones are the flexibility, and accessibility and equal

Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels. The
character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once the
symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that
almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol. The
last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the family is to
almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word anserous . Anserous
means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes him as a tall bird hunched
in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His symbol throughout the
novel is self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them teeth (pg. 111). This just
proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing, only about his new teeth. Addie s
name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her symbol is deep. She is always looking out
of the window at her coffin being built while she is lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing
how badly Addie wants to go to the other side. Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward
daybreak when we drove the last nail and toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with
the window open and the rain blowing on her again (pg. 73). This shows how sad Addie is

support that students are not ready to perform freedom of speech. He states how there have been rules

know anything and that is reason Posner provides to explain that college students are not ready to

Solving The Problem Of An Aging Prison Population
Solving the Problem of an Aging Prison Population
Joshua N. Handy
American Military University Abstract
The American correctional system is facing many emerging issues. One of these issues is the
exponential increase in aging offenders. In the past few decades, the number of geriatric offenders
incarcerated has multiplied at an increasing rate. This essay addresses the issue of aging offenders in
the correctional system; the problems that these offenders create and the underlying issues related to
the aging prisoner population as they relate to correctional management. This essay also proposes a
solution to the problem.
Solving the Problem of an Aging Prison Population The United States of America has the largest
corrections system in the world. The incarceration rate in the U.S. is over one in every one hundred
citizens, the highest ratio in the world. The population of prisoners is expanding at a rate at which the
U.S. correction system can just manage. The introductions of three strikes , tougher sentences, and
mandatory minimum sentence laws have vastly contributed to growth in prison population. Inmates
serving mandatory longer sentences are a part of one the biggest growing concerns with the American
correctional system, an aging population with increased needs. Between 1981 and 2010, the number of
U.S. prisoners age 55 and over increased from 8,853 to 124,900 (Criminal Justice Hub, n.d.). If the
problem is not addressed and the rate continues to grow, by

Essay on Common Teenage Problems
Teenage is a fundamental stage of life that each human being passes through. Some people face this
period of their life strongly and positively, while others face many problems and difficulties. This
depends on the environment these young adults live in, their parents, their friends, their living
conditions, their education, and many other factors. Teenagers face many problems such as becoming
addicted to drugs and alcohol, being influenced negatively by their peers, self image and weight, or
even arguments with their parents

Peer pressure has always been present and will also always be present. It is not a disease or a crime, it
is an influence; either a negative or a positive one. Negative peer pressure is an influence put on a
person to do something wrong, or something the person doesn t want to do. This may be stealing,
taking drugs, or other dangerous actions. If someone influences you into doing something like this it is
considered a negative peer pressure. This is a major problem in most schools all around the world.
Teenagers usually feel peer pressure when they feel unpopular between their friends, or when they
want to be accepted in a group of other teenagers. The group is a place where one feels accepted,
where he can feel good about himself, where he feels secure. It increases his self esteem, and it also
enhances his self image. Unfortunately, teenagers who want to be part of these groups, need to follow
certain unpleasant routines, such as stealing, smoking, taking drugs, or drinking alcohol. Many times
they do things that they would never have imagined themselves doing before meeting a new group of
people. Some teens try to make the quot;right quot; decision so others will admire them. Having
parents or other responsible adults they can turn to for help or advice is crucial at this point in a teen s
life.
Teenagers might also face self image or weight problems. One of the main illnesses that comes from

Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk Speech
In 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy delivered one of the most influential speeches in history.
Throughout his speech, Kennedy employs many rhetorical devices that further his appeal for
unification. Kennedy establishes his credibility as soon as he steps to the podium. For I have sworn
before you and Almighty God... Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America, proved
credible and true to the American people through his distinguished leadership. Kennedy discusses the
trials and triumphs of the United States of America in what will go down in history as a great
demonstration of unification. Throughout the text, he emphasizes the theme of patriotism and
greatness as well as prosperity in order to unify the nation through confident eyes. His emotional yet
logical appeal to America s patriotism helps further his argument towards national unification.
Kennedy s use of rhetorical devices allows him to maintain a conversational tone yet a clear and
compelling structure.
Kennedy successfully employs many rhetorical devices into his speech. For example, Kennedy uses
the literary device chiasmus when he utters, ...ask not what your country can do for you ask what you
can do for your country. He employs this literary technique again when he claims, Let us never
negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate. Kennedy most frequently employs anaphora
when he repeats again and again, To those old allies... To those new states... To those people... To
those nations... He uses this anaphoric phrase to employ a rhetorical device while, at the same time,
applying emotional appeal to bring his speech back to the theme of unification. Another example of
anaphora as well as parallelism is when Kennedy repeats the phrase Let both sides... five times. These
rhetorical techniques use repetition and the reversal of certain words/phrases to make Kennedy s
dialect clear and compelling to his audience.
Midway through the speech, Kennedy asks the rhetorical question Can we forge against these enemies
a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all
mankind? Will you join in that historic effort? Kennedy uses this rhetorical question to drive the

Euthanasia Should Not Be Legal
What is euthanasia? Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is suffering
from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is often known as
a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia? Voluntary euthanasia can
be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end their life in a manner that
minimizes further pain and discomfort.
While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill

charges. There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s life. If
one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel happiness or
suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that was later turned into
a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will Traynor, whose zest for life was
altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally barren quadriplegic determined to end
his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Desperate to save her son, Will s mother hires Louisa
Clark to be his caretaker. His mother s hope is that Louisa can show will that his life is still worth
living. When Louisa discovers that it is Will s intention to go to Switzerland to end his life, she is
determined to change his mind, despite the happy moments, Will cannot be dissuaded. With his
parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes,
2012). The story is the perfect example of a made for Hollywood movie that inspires people to
consider voluntary euthanasia as an alternative to palliative care. The book and film are well written

Indian Religion Vs American Religion
Religion was one of the leading forces behind the conquistadors traveling across waters to new lands.
Most of the time these conquests were also journeyed by not just conquistadores, but also religious
missionaries (Foner, Give Me Liberty, 21). When these explores first viewed the indians, they saw
them as lacking a genuine religion and worshiping false gods (Foner, Give Me Liberty, 11). Indian s
belief in spirits in nature compared with Europeans view of nature as a commodity, created a line
between both religious groups that then later created breaches of freedom (Foner, Give Me Liberty
11). Freedom in this time period was intertwined with religion. Freedom to the Europeans meant that
instead of leading a life of sin, they embraced

A Poll Conducted By The Aspca Revealed That 94% Of Americans
A poll conducted by the ASPCA revealed that 94% of Americans believe that production animals,
specifically those raised for food, deserve to live a comfortable life free of cruelty and neglect. Despite
this belief, many factory farm animals are abused and neglected in such ways that, if witnessed by
consumers, would not be accepted. Over 99% of the United State s farm animals live on factory farms
that use them for means of profit, many of them violating the Animal Welfare Act and other laws put
in place to protect the humane treatment of animals (ASPCA). This abuse is not limited to any specific
type of farm animal. Although different animals are used for different purposes, they all share a
common suffering and a need for humane care. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chickens used for egg production typically live in one of many battery cages crammed into a long
windowless shed. Ten or more of these hens are packed together in a cage that is about the size of a
drawer in a filing cabinet. This causes frustration and fighting between the hens. To keep this from
happening, farmers often cut or burn part of their beaks off without medicine to dull the pain. Hens
who become sick are usually not given proper veterinary care and are left to die slowly and painfully.
Some of the eggs laid by the hens are hatched by another industry to supply more chickens for egg
production. Since the hatched male chicks cannot lay eggs, they are often killed by grinding or
suffocation. When the hens grow old and stop producing as many eggs, many farmers will deny them
proper nutrition to try and shock their bodies into laying eggs one last time. Then they are slaughtered
and their bodies are used for food scraps. Most of the pigs raised in the U.S. live on large scale factory
farms where they are overcrowded and treated inhumanely. At an extremely young age, piglets are
stolen from their mothers and placed in crowded, windowless pens. Due to being jampacked, the
piglets do not have much range of motion and are constantly laying in their own waste material. This
can cause extreme irritation so they begin biting each others tails, causing farmers to rip off their tails
and teeth without a sedative to ease the pain. Most sows in the U.S.

The Problem Of Prison Reform
Prison reform is an issue that has been a concern for a long period of time. The problems that Angela
Davis brings up throughout her book are only some of the problems with the prison system. Whether
it be the influence of corporations on prisons and legislators, the role that racism plays, or the safety of
the prisoners. Her solution to these problems is the abolition of jails and prisons by creating policies
that will reduce the number of people sent to prison. This would destroy the prison system as the main
concept of punishment. The ways that she aims to do this is by providing physical and mental care to
everybody, demilitarize schools, and change the justice system to one based around reconciliation
rather than retribution. I find myself to agree with many of the concerns that she lists and believe her
argument to be somewhat convincing. However, I do not believe that a complete abolition of prisons
is what is necessary to fix the prison system. This paper will explore the concerns that she voices in
her argument, how convincing I find them, and what I believe to be the flaws in her conclusion. In the
beginning of the chapter, Davis introduces us to the term prison industrial complex . The prison
industrial complex refers to the idea that prisons are filling up due to businesses seeking profit and not
because crime was increasing. This term is important because it is a fundamental part of Davis s
argument. The transition of prisons from a government owned

Women s Rights And The Rights
Throughout history women have had to repeatedly fight for the basic rights readily given to their male
counterparts. The right to vote, the right to own property, the right to divorce, and the right to an equal
education are only a few of many examples in which women have had to fight for gender equality
against their peers, and even their own government. I believe the women s plight of this generation is
a woman s right to an abortion. It is my opinion that women should retain the right to an abortion,
regardless of trimester. No state or federal law should be able to regulate a situation so personal and
private, or impose laws in order to make treating the condition more difficult for those involved. The
decision to terminate a pregnancy is morally complex for everyone involved, however, it should be a
woman s decision and hers alone. An invasion of privacy in such an inhuman way is unconstitutional
and a direct attack on women s rights and the progress women have made in striving for equality.

Ian: (to himself) I ve made this Rob really angry. It doesn t matter if he kills Ken, Ken kills him or

The Siamese Revolution And Animal Farm
The Siamese Revolution and Animal Farm Thailand has gone through many revolutions and
rebellions, but one that stands out would definitely have to be the Revolution of 1932. That revolution
in particular seemed to have started it all, from the many different constitutions to the different
government phases. The Revolution of 1932 also under name of the Siamese Revolution, Promoters
Revolution, and many other names in specific got rid of the absolute monarchy rule Thailand was
previously under, and changed the country s name of Siam to Thailand. In comparison to the book
Animal Farm, these two revolutions have more differing situations than similar situations. Previous to
the Revolution of 1932, Thailand was known as Siam and was under an absolute monarchy rule. Their
long era of absolute monarchy was ended on June 24 ,1932. Although most absolute monarchies do
not have many positives, Siam did have some positive happenings while under absolute monarchy
rule. They had been able to preserve their independence when it was threatened by the British and
French colonial advances in Southeast Asia. That had happened while Siam was under rule of
Chulalongkorn. Siam was also able to gain spoils of war from being involved with World War I during
the rule of Vajiravudh. Siam s last absolute monarch was King Prajadhipok. In 1926 one of his
policies was to decrease the annual salary of bureaucrats, causing dissatisfaction for those affected.

Issues At Junk Van
The first year of 1 800 JUNK Van s existence saw success due to the virtual business model that
Marcus Kingo implemented. However, with the rapid growth of the business and future plans, Kingo
needs to address some serious operational issues going forward. To do this, he must thoroughly
analyze his current processes and determine both the current and future needs of the business. Once
this is complete, Kingo can be better prepared to choose the most appropriate information technology
solution that will provide the greatest value to 1 800 JUNK Van.
Process Issues at Junk Van
There are numerous problems with the Junk Van s current process. Inefficiencies exist in the system
that are preventing the business from maximizing value, such as drivers having to sometimes go back
to the customer s location in order to collect money. Data consolidation in many areas of the process is
also wasting valuable resources that could be better focused elsewhere. This and other manual
procedures are partly responsible for mistakes being made and errors occurring. Having one live
database copy is impractical and ineffective, especially considering the company s virtual business
model. Changes are bound to arise and there needs to be a centralized place where all team members
can go to make updates and look up relevant information in real time. Emailing information back and
forth among several people makes it easy for some of that information to get lost in the mix. Kingo

A Discussion Of Socratic Irony
As we can see, Kierkegaard traces a parallel between Socrates ironic practice and a picture.
Furthermore, the effect of his rejoinders is likened to that of an image suddenly popping up while we
stare at this picture. In order to get at Kierkegaard s point, we have to consider that this passage is
contained inside a discussion of Xenophon s portrait of Socrates. In fact, the whole passage is meant
those aspects of Socratic irony which Xenophon missed. In this regard, Kierkegaard writes that what
he dislikes in Xenophon s treatment of Socrates is his failure to portray the two essential elements of
Socratic irony. The first one is situation , the second one are his rejoinders . A bit below, Kierkegaard
adds that [...] Socratic questioning is clearly [...] analogous to the negative in Hegel, except that the
negative, according to Hegel is a necessary element in thought itself, is a determinant ad intra
[inwardly]; in Plato [and therefore in Socrates] , the negative is made graphical and placed outside the
object in the inquiring individual . This two ways of conceiving the negative give way to two modes
of leading philosophical inquiry. In the first case, [...] one can ask with the intention of receiving an
answer containing the desired fullness, and hence the more one asks, the deeper and more significant
becomes the answer; or [in the second case,] one can ask without any interest in the answer except to
suck out the apparent content by means of the question and thereby

Leadership, Social, And Personality Traits For Job...

Cash Management Modeling

Cash Management Modeling, Excel Assignment 3
Cash flow forecasts are a powerful management tool to help identify future deficits or surpluses in
liquidity. The cash flow forecast shows the total expected outflows and inflows during a given period;
i.e. a year. It is vitally important that this budget is prepared so the organization is aware of shortages
and surpluses during the year. These can help the business spot cash problems and cash opportunities.
A known cash shortage can be planned for and resolved proactively verses reactively. It would be
wrong to assume that if the organization is in surplus that it does not have a problem. Idle cash means
the opportunity to earn interest or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When showing data for different periods of time, such as the quarterly sales forecasts, it s horizontal
rather than vertical. Other data, such as the list of raw materials needed for a product, will be easier to
use when it s set up vertically. Doing this simply works better as we use Excel 2013.
Borrowing Effects; Cash Budgets. When the company pays the balance of short term borrowing this
will decrease available cash used for investing. Determining the amount of current borrowing and
current investing is the most complex part of this cash budget. We have already calculated current
borrowing, but because we are now considering investments and interest, the formula will need to be
changed. For current borrowing, the logic can be explained this way; if the unadjusted cash balance is
less than the minimum acceptable cash, then borrow enough to bring this balance to the minimum.
However, if the firm has some investments, reduce the amount of borrowing by an equal amount of
the investments. If the adjusted cash balance is greater than the minimum and the firm has pervious
borrowing, then use the cash above minimum to reduce the outstanding balance. Writing a formula for
this requires the use of the nested IF statement (Mayes, 2012, p. 89).
Conclusion. The cash flow forecast is produced by reference to the income and expenditure budget,
which serve as a basis for adjusting

amazing job with all the specific objects, effects, sounds, and other details used to help intensify the

items relate to symbolisms; how they play such a vital role in literature, lead to clues and nevertheless,

Examples Of Existentialism In The Blade Runner
Ethan Davis
Professor Lemenager
Philosophy 2513
26 September 2016
The Metaphysical Problem of Blade Runner Philosophy can be applied to numerous aspects of
existence and life. Existentialism is a popular type of dialogue in philosophy, and it is seen in many
current and past films. Film is a way to present philosophical problems to the general public without
them actually having to put much thought into it. And it is done in a way that entertains them, so
people will be thinking more hypothetically or theoretically than before. Metaphysics is branch of
philosophy and it deals with questions about the nature of reality and the nature of human reality.
Those questions are easily seen in the blade runner. The mind body problem and the problems of
artificial intelligence are also important problems in the blade runner. There are scenes where the the
audience is unsure if the main character, Harrison Ford, is really a human or a replicant himself. There
are also scenes where the replicants are unaware that they are in fact replicants. Of the many

The French people responded immediately by raising money through public funding and various
forms of entertainment. However, the law of France only permitted lotteries for charitable and artistic
causes, of which the Statue of Liberty qualified under both. Consequently, it was decided that a lottery
be organized to boost the fund. Gounod, a famous composer wrote a song to the statue that he
presented at the Paris Opera, and the money raised funded the project. Unfortunately, they realized
that the anticipated cost of building the Statue was much more than the available funds. Never the less,
the French government was not involved in any fund raising. On the other hand, the Americans
received the information about the statue construction before they got appeal for funds. The reluctance
on the American side delayed the building of the pedestal. Possible reasons for lack of interest were
that the project may not be completed, others though the statue was a New York City project and not
national in character. Others argued about its location. The only accomplishment made by 1876 was

Mental Rotation of Images
Abstract The idea of mental imagery has always been a controversial subject in the field of
psychology. Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it
can not be directly observed. Though they are right about this, it is not impossible to measure how
quickly mental rotations of images are processed in our brains. Subjects in this experiment were
presented two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly
as possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. Two different

Overall, when comparing the reaction times of pictures to letters, picture reaction times are said to be
generally greater. In conducting this experiment 20 right handed subjects were used, 10 male and 10

hour. Three things were concluded from this experiment. First, picture rotations took longer to
perform than letter rotations. Second, there were no sex differences in reaction times for either
stimulus presented, and third, there was a linear increase in reaction times as angular disparity of both
stimuli sets increased (Desrocher, smith Taylor, 1995). As predicted this study did replicate some
previous findings. However, based on the data from this experiment sex differences did not yield a
significant difference in reaction times when presented with the different stimuli. Concurrent with our
data, both of the previously mentioned experiments concluded the same thing; reaction times
increased as angular disparity increased. Although the objectives in each experiment were somewhat
different, there has been a sufficient amount of evidence to support the hypothesis, that reaction times
will increase as the angular disparity of objects increase. Method Participants Ten St. Johns University

Summary Of Rachel Goodnight
Rachel said goodnight to her father then headed to bed. Little did she know that would be the last time
she spoke to him. It seemed just like any morning in the Smith household to Rachel. She got out of
bed, and she began getting ready for school. In the middle of her daily routine, she suddenly realized it
seemed unusually quiet at home, so she went downstairs in search of her parents. There is no one in
sight. She went to her parents bedroom to only find her mother sleeping in her bed. This is no surprise
to Rachel because her parents had got under each other s skin more than usual these last couple days.
She did not think anything of it; she figured he would be back later that night. Once Rachel returned
home from school, her dad is still not home. Days, weeks, even months had passed, and Rachel still
had not seen her father since that day. Unfortunately, many families face this same problem of not
having a father figure in their life at some point. To some children, they do not know of a time where
they ever had a father or even who he is. Even though sometimes having a father in a family is

On the way to discover a new sailing path to India, Christopher Columbus discovers another continent
believing e to be India. The continent is later visited by Americo Vespucio who determines it is not
India and names it America. The Ottoman Empire had blocked the previous path to India and deprived
the Europeans from the spices and silk they were accustomed to. After its discovery, the new continent

According to Theodor Elze (1889) the island in The Tempest is Pantalaria, whose natural sights
correspond with the descriptions in the play, and its nearby town of African coast Calibia, served as an
inspiration to Shakespeare. Another explanation for the name Caliban is kalebon, an Arabic word for
vile dog , common reference for North African creature in England at that period. Dutch scholar
Albert Kluyver, would eliminate the cannibal, as it did not exist in English language with the same
meaning as in Shakespeare`s time, instead he believes it to mean black in gypsy language. It is very
probable that Shakespeare addressed African slaves, since Prospero himself in the play, observes
Caliban as filth , something inhuman. (Vaughan and Vaughan). The relationship between Prospero and
Caliban could be Shakespeare`s way of describing the treatment of African slaves by European
feudalists. This marvellous literature piece is a testimony of slavery and its roots. Even more, few
years after Shakespeare died, the biggest export of African slaves took place and racism was imprinted
in people`s subconscious. Shakespeare describes the horrible manner African slaves were treated and
the aggressiveness by which they responded to that treatment, since Caliban could be a victim or
aggressor, since he tried to rape Miranda. As illiterate and simple creature,

attachment relational patterns known as anxious, avoidant, and secure base styles are a product of the
interactions experienced in early childhood with their caregivers. It affects people s
intercommunication with others all through their life span. Individuals attachment style involves a
systematic pattern of relational assumptions, emotions, and behavior that develop from the subjective
constructs definitive of attachment experiences throughout their lives. Negative relational patterns
increase the likelihood of marital violence in the home. When experiencing stress related life issues,
conflicts may arise due to substandard communication skills leading to physical violence,
aggressiveness, resulting in harsh spousal disputes. A positive upswing in marital and family harmony
occurs when healthy communication skills develop along with secure based attachment
characteristics, such as, humility, gratitude, and forgiveness of self and others. These characteristics
provide coping mechanisms that establish a positive self identity and healthy social interaction with
others. As the anxious and avoidant relational styles exercise these positive characteristics, in time,
they develop a positive view of self and others while learning to work through life stressors, which
benefit the marriage and family. Introduction Relationships between marital couples and children

Essay on Troilus And Criseyde And The Book Of The Duchess
Geoffrey Chaucer has successfully developed several themes which are seen throughout his works.
Although the literary techniques that Chaucer uses are not his own, these themes which reoccur are in
the one of a kind style which defines Chaucer s works. In both Troilus and Criseyde and The Book of
the Duchess, the characters of Troilus and the Black Knight go through heartache and sorrow because
of a love they once had but both lost. Both characters are young and naive when it comes to matters of
the heart and leave their fate in the hands of Cupid and Fortune. ... Show more content on

(TC.I.197 203)
The Black Knight is also very naive when it comes to love and readily admits that he has a great deal
to learn (BD.1091) When he tries to impress the woman he is in love with, he has a whole speech
planned out but because he is so nervous, the only word he could get out is mercy (BD.1219).
Ironically, Troilus had the same problem when speaking to Criseyde, and also muttered the words
Mercy, mercy, but then at least called her sweetheart (TC. III.98) Through their heartache and love
loss, both characters learn from their experiences with love. Chaucer brings both Cupid and Fortune
into both works, being the reason for Troilus s and the Black Knight s reasons for gaining and losing
love. The Black Knight blames Fortune for taking away his love but realizes that fate would have
taken her away from him at some point anyways because everything happens

Theme Of Genesis 12-50
The two major themes of Genesis 12 50 are be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. These two
themes are first stated in Genesis 1:28, but recur many times throughout Genesis, especially with
Abraham, his son Isaac, and Isaac s son Jacob. One challenge Abraham faces in regards to the blessing
of progeny is his wife s, Sarah s, barrenness. This barrenness is a fact of her existence. (Brown, 309)
At first Sarah gives Abraham one of her slaves, Hagar, in order for him to have a child. (Gen. 16) This
is exploitation, but when Hagar becomes pregnant, it improves her situation from being just a slave, to
being protected because she is pregnant. (Weems) Hagar gives birth to Ishmael, Abraham s first born.
After this, God opens Sarah s womb and she is able to have a child, Isaac. (Gen. 21) Sarah then has
Ishmael and Hagar sent away because she wants Isaac to receive the full inheritance by himself. But
God promises Abraham that a nation will be made from Ishmael as well as Isaac. (Gen. 21) This
shows that God favors the oppressed, especially since he takes care of Hagar and Ishmael while they
are in the wilderness. (Tamez, 13) By sending Ishmael out into the wilderness to form a nation, it
fulfills the fill the earth promise that God made to Abraham. (Sarah Shectman, Abraham s Family ,

A second challenge is when Abraham tells Pharaoh that Sarah is his wife, which

Essay on Gender and Power in The Arabian Nights
Gender and Power in The Arabian Nights
Works Cited Not Included
Contemplating the relationship between gender and power, one undoubtedly notices that tradition
regards men as the holders of official office and power. Historically, men have also always been the
leaders of their families, and turned to in times of trouble or need. Making generalizations is normally
a weak approach to any task; in this case however, it is necessary to do so in order to illustrate how
drastically opposite the situations prove in various selections from 1001 Arabian Nights. Rather than
men taking critical roles of power, the women characters, especially at crucial moments in the plot,
empower themselves far beyond the male figures, and, consequently, ... Show more content on

Even Aladdin s mother criticizes him for his ridiculous desire, My child, may Allah protect you! It
seems you ve lost your head! However, as a loving mother she tells him, my greatest desire is for you
to marry , and with that makes the boldest decision of the story: to approach the Sultan to request his
daughter s hand in marriage for Aladdin. The move, an unprecedented one, highlights beautifully the
incredible composure and boldness of Aladdin s mother. Even she questions, . ..how can I be so bold
as to ask for the daughter of the Sultan of China...? (164) In an ironic role reversal, Aladdin s mother
suddenly becomes empowered enough to carry out such a bold action. Through her ability to approach
the sultan to ask the most audacious of questions, Aladdin s mother refutes classic notions of the
power gender relationship. The decision to approach the sultan would have been valiant in itself for
even the most courageous man; the fact that a woman did this exemplifies the empowerment of
women in 1001 Arabian Nights and spurs doubt surrounding the classic idea that men are more
powerful than women.
Similarly, the gender power relationship is once again raised in Ali Babba and the Forty Thieves , and,
like Aladdin, the empowerment of the strong female characters leads to meaningful impact on the
story. Ironically, before this magical transition of power takes place, women are viewed are powerless
victims. For example, when

Censorship Of The Media By Herbert Foerstel
The British tradition of censoring speech and press to preserve governmental power and dignity stems
from the 1275 enactment of De Scandalis Magnatum, which initially imposed penalties for any false
talk about the king and later covered such expression about any government officials [Foerstel, 1998:
4]
Censorship of the media as described by Herbert Foerstel took shape during the reign of King Edward
I. Ever since he made the decision to protect his government from the press the law has continued to
evolve, and while the regulations have since loosened to give the media freedom, the idea behind the
law remains constant. But can censorship be justified in a period, which by law (Article 10 of the
Human Rights Act 1998) offers the right to freedom of speech and acceptance of opinion and
interpretation?
Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and
to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority regardless of
frontiers. [HRA, 1998: Article 10]
Aims of content:
Establishing the advantages and disadvantages of censorship
Finding circumstances in which censorship can be justified in a democracy
Pointing out the dangers with censorship
To use examples, such as the Vietnam War and Page 3 to illustrate the first two points
Censorship is restrictions on communication flows imposed by the government rather than the media
itself or consumers of it... Certainly a desire to

  • 2. The Development Of Mathematical Psychology Psychology established into a mathematical discipline through a series of events during history. This establishment led to the development of mathematical psychology; a field encompassing empirical methodology (Benjafield, 2015). Furthermore, through the implementation of math in psychology, findings from previous and current studies of psychology influenced the plethora of knowledge available today directly impacting society s understanding and application of psychological phenomena. This is articulated through mathematical ideas originating from the ancient Greeks, which inspired further research in the field abundantly, throughout the past three centuries (18th to 21st) (Benjafield, 2015). Specifically, ideas from Euclid in ancient Greece inspired Gustav Fechner to develop mathematical concepts in his formation of psychophysics (Zudini, 2011). In the 18th century, arguments regarding the implementation of math in science were becoming a common query. The field of psychometrics began during this period and early psychologists like Ernst Weber began developing relationships between mathematical concepts (Benjafield, 2015). During the 19th century, Gustav Fechner developed his field of psychophysics and inspired several future psychologists to continue his work and develop their own ideas of mathematical psychology (Benjafield, 2015; Robinson, 2010). Developments in this field instigated the notion of using experimental psychology during World War I, and the 1950s 1970s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Goals Centered Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory And... Classroom management can be based on a number of researched theories or models. Research has shown that when incidents requiring behaviour to be managed increase, learning will decrease (Funnell, 2009, p. 482), therefore highlighting the importance for the teacher to implement successful strategies to restrict problem behaviour. This Essay will discuss strengths and weaknesses of three possible theories a teacher can use to manage a classroom and the student s behaviour. The theories to be discussed will include; Goal Centered Theory, Cognitive behavioural theory and Choice theory. Goal Centered Theory is a social discipline model of Rudolf Dreikurs that was influenced by social phycologist Alfred Alder (Old Dominion University, 2016). The underpinning idea to this theory is that students have a democratic say in classroom discipline and milieu. The teachers aim is to meet to students needs satisfaction by focussing on their social relationships, feelings, thoughts and behaviours (Lyons, Ford Slee, 2014, p. 24) in a democratic way making sure that students feel both valued and like they belong . By meeting these needs in a democratic way teachers will not only gain more respect from their students but will also give their students a feeling of self worth (Grandmont, 2002, p. 241). This approach is based on the belief that students take responsibility for controlling their behaviour and that they have the ability to make responsible decisions (Grandmont, 2002, p. 4). ... Horses are considered free spirited animals that not only provide love and fun journeys, but are also put to work. Horses offer a strong structured body that can be used for travel, either riding on a horse s back or using the horse to pull a carriage, leisure, emotional support and even entertainment. In America, horses are noble animals that have impressive senses and abilities. Horses have extraordinary balance, impressive flight or fight responses to predators and have a life span of 25 30 years, thus making a horse a longtime companion. This essay is not meant to judge other countries, but to make it known just what is happening to our horses that we love dearly. To get into detail, there is no humane way to slaughter these animals. Horses are skittish by nature making accurate pre slaughter stunning difficult and result in the horse being tortured by enduring repeated blows, sometimes conscious dismemberment and rarely receive a quick and painless death (The Humane Society of the United States, 2017). The last domestic plant closed in 2007 and the USDA documented the slaughter pipeline s abundance of cruelty violations and injuries to horses, including broken bones, bones protruding from their bodies, eyeballs hanging by a thread of skin and gaping wounds (The Humane Society of the United States, 2017). Thankfully, the plant was closed but we still have a problem with the export of horses for slaughter. One may argue, if there was a way to humanely slaughter a horse would you still be against horse meat? Yes. Horses are often seen as companions and are even used to assist mentally ill rehabilitations, almost like a dog. It is taboo in America to slaughter and eat dog meat because dogs are domesticated. Dogs are also very strong animals with strong senses and good fight or flight responses. However, dogs are not quite as built as horses, and although dogs are also known to ... From the time we are born, till the day we die, prescription drugs are prescribed for doctor approved use. Most prescription drugs are given to help control a disease, an imbalance, sickness, etc. With teenage drug abuse on the rise in most US high schools, has become a problem parents are noticing among their children. Being a parent to a teenage child who has meddled with prescription drugs has been an unbelievable eye opener. Teens know who they get these drugs from; fellow students, friends, parents cabinets. Educating parents and discussing the risks with teens about the effects prescription drugs can cause is important to helping prevent this from continuing. Prescription drug abuse amongst teens in high school is becoming a dilemma. Teens are finding it easy to get drugs at school by either buying it off other students or getting it from friends who got it from someone else. This has become a huge problem amongst the youth. With most high schools having campus police, they are finding it hard to crack down on drugs entering the campus (Officer Landivar). As a mother to a teen child who has abused prescription drugs has damaged the trust that was graciously given. US high school aged teens have abused prescription drugs and illegal drugs. Most times it is intentional and others, peer pressure. Trust between parent and child is damaged by the actions the child has taken. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prior to the Paris Peace Conference and the drafting of the Treaty of Versailles, one of the issues debated amongst the victorious Allies was whether or not Germany should be allowed to retain their overseas protectorates. In the last months of the war, the South African government, which was tied to Great Britain, published a Blue Book concerning the vicious nature of German colonial rule in German South West Africa, the territory now known as Namibia. In response to what they claimed to be false accusations, the German Colonial Office published their own White Book in 1919 that addressed and refuted the charges made against them. All of these political organizations fought for similar rights for aboriginal people, but they were all fought on local levels. The two organizations that were somewhat successful at becoming national organizations and representing Aborigines throughout Australia were the Australian Aborigines League and the Aborigines Progressive Association. Introduction: The main reason for this survey is to analyse how the profit can be increase by judged the average number of floor spaces or sales staff employed in a large retail chain. By observing the averages that have been calculated in the Excel Spread Sheet for takings, floor spaces and staff number. it can be possible to deduct which department needs further development and how it can be developed. Using a simplistic mathematical scheme to serve in making the right decision, it will be explained how to grow the profit with neither more nor less information than what was provided in the dataset. Conclusion: An average number typically suggests the mean value in a data set; however, in this analyse has been used two different types of averages which are: the mean and median. As the mean is considered to be the one giving the most accurate information about the average number of takings since it s about adding up all the numbers form the data set and divided them by the total while the median represents only the value that stands in the middle of the data set; in that way resulting a common mistake such as: leaving one of the averages aside and not analysing the accurate information from the data set. However, there are no evidences to prove that both numbers are correct, as both are considered to be types of averages in statistics. This is due to the fact that web based learning applies the concept of learner centered approach in learning. To compare, in traditional ways of teaching and learning, teachers played a big role, which was as the giver or provider of knowledge (Web based Learning: Good or Bad?). Students during that time depended solely on teachers to give information about the topics covered in every subject that they were learning. • 16. Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels. The character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once the symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol. The last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the family is to almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word anserous . Anserous means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes him as a tall bird hunched in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His symbol throughout the novel is self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them teeth (pg. 111). This just proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing, only about his new teeth. Addie s name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her symbol is deep. She is always looking out of the window at her coffin being built while she is lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing how badly Addie wants to go to the other side. Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward daybreak when we drove the last nail and toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with the window open and the rain blowing on her again (pg. 73). Handy American Military University Abstract The American correctional system is facing many emerging issues. One of these issues is the exponential increase in aging offenders. In the past few decades, the number of geriatric offenders incarcerated has multiplied at an increasing rate. This essay addresses the issue of aging offenders in the correctional system; the problems that these offenders create and the underlying issues related to the aging prisoner population as they relate to correctional management. This essay also proposes a solution to the problem. Solving the Problem of an Aging Prison Population The United States of America has the largest corrections system in the world. The incarceration rate in the U.S. is over one in every one hundred citizens, the highest ratio in the world. The population of prisoners is expanding at a rate at which the U.S. correction system can just manage. Throughout his speech, Kennedy employs many rhetorical devices that further his appeal for unification. Kennedy establishes his credibility as soon as he steps to the podium. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God... Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America, proved credible and true to the American people through his distinguished leadership. Kennedy discusses the trials and triumphs of the United States of America in what will go down in history as a great demonstration of unification. Throughout the text, he emphasizes the theme of patriotism and greatness as well as prosperity in order to unify the nation through confident eyes. His emotional yet logical appeal to America s patriotism helps further his argument towards national unification. Kennedy s use of rhetorical devices allows him to maintain a conversational tone yet a clear and compelling structure. Kennedy successfully employs many rhetorical devices into his speech. For example, Kennedy uses the literary device chiasmus when he utters, ...ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country. He employs this literary technique again when he claims, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate. Kennedy most frequently employs anaphora when he repeats again and again, To those old allies... To those new states... To those people... To those nations... He uses this anaphoric phrase to employ a rhetorical device while, at the same time, applying emotional appeal to bring his speech back to the theme of unification. Another example of anaphora as well as parallelism is when Kennedy repeats the phrase Let both sides... five times. These rhetorical techniques use repetition and the reversal of certain words/phrases to make Kennedy s dialect clear and compelling to his audience. Midway through the speech, Kennedy asks the rhetorical question Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Voluntary euthanasia can be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end their life in a manner that minimizes further pain and discomfort. If one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel happiness or suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that was later turned into a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will Traynor, whose zest for life was altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally barren quadriplegic determined to end his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Ten or more of these hens are packed together in a cage that is about the size of a drawer in a filing cabinet. This causes frustration and fighting between the hens. To keep this from happening, farmers often cut or burn part of their beaks off without medicine to dull the pain. Hens who become sick are usually not given proper veterinary care and are left to die slowly and painfully. Some of the eggs laid by the hens are hatched by another industry to supply more chickens for egg production. Since the hatched male chicks cannot lay eggs, they are often killed by grinding or suffocation. The problems that Angela Davis brings up throughout her book are only some of the problems with the prison system. Whether it be the influence of corporations on prisons and legislators, the role that racism plays, or the safety of the prisoners. Her solution to these problems is the abolition of jails and prisons by creating policies that will reduce the number of people sent to prison. This would destroy the prison system as the main concept of punishment. The ways that she aims to do this is by providing physical and mental care to everybody, demilitarize schools, and change the justice system to one based around reconciliation rather than retribution. I find myself to agree with many of the concerns that she lists and believe her argument to be somewhat convincing. However, I do not believe that a complete abolition of prisons is what is necessary to fix the prison system. This paper will explore the concerns that she voices in her argument, how convincing I find them, and what I believe to be the flaws in her conclusion. In the beginning of the chapter, Davis introduces us to the term prison industrial complex . The prison industrial complex refers to the idea that prisons are filling up due to businesses seeking profit and not because crime was increasing. I believe the women s plight of this generation is a woman s right to an abortion. It is my opinion that women should retain the right to an abortion, regardless of trimester. No state or federal law should be able to regulate a situation so personal and private, or impose laws in order to make treating the condition more difficult for those involved. The decision to terminate a pregnancy is morally complex for everyone involved, however, it should be a woman s decision and hers alone. This and other manual procedures are partly responsible for mistakes being made and errors occurring. Having one live database copy is impractical and ineffective, especially considering the company s virtual business model. Changes are bound to arise and there needs to be a centralized place where all team members can go to make updates and look up relevant information in real time. • 33. A Discussion Of Socratic Irony As we can see, Kierkegaard traces a parallel between Socrates ironic practice and a picture. Furthermore, the effect of his rejoinders is likened to that of an image suddenly popping up while we stare at this picture. In order to get at Kierkegaard s point, we have to consider that this passage is contained inside a discussion of Xenophon s portrait of Socrates. In fact, the whole passage is meant those aspects of Socratic irony which Xenophon missed. In this regard, Kierkegaard writes that what he dislikes in Xenophon s treatment of Socrates is his failure to portray the two essential elements of Socratic irony. The first one is situation , the second one are his rejoinders . A bit below, Kierkegaard adds that [...] Socratic questioning is clearly [...] analogous to the negative in Hegel, except that the negative, according to Hegel is a necessary element in thought itself, is a determinant ad intra [inwardly]; in Plato [and therefore in Socrates] , the negative is made graphical and placed outside the object in the inquiring individual . This two ways of conceiving the negative give way to two modes of leading philosophical inquiry. In the first case, [...] one can ask with the intention of receiving an answer containing the desired fullness, and hence the more one asks, the deeper and more significant becomes the answer; or [in the second case,] one can ask without any interest in the answer except to suck out the apparent content by means of the question and thereby ... Cash Management Modeling Cash Management Modeling, Excel Assignment 3 Cash Management Modeling, Excel Assignment 3 Cash flow forecasts are a powerful management tool to help identify future deficits or surpluses in liquidity. The cash flow forecast shows the total expected outflows and inflows during a given period; i.e. a year. It is vitally important that this budget is prepared so the organization is aware of shortages and surpluses during the year. These can help the business spot cash problems and cash opportunities. Borrowing Effects; Cash Budgets. When the company pays the balance of short term borrowing this will decrease available cash used for investing. Determining the amount of current borrowing and current investing is the most complex part of this cash budget. We have already calculated current borrowing, but because we are now considering investments and interest, the formula will need to be changed. For current borrowing, the logic can be explained this way; if the unadjusted cash balance is less than the minimum acceptable cash, then borrow enough to bring this balance to the minimum. However, if the firm has some investments, reduce the amount of borrowing by an equal amount of the investments. If the adjusted cash balance is greater than the minimum and the firm has pervious borrowing, then use the cash above minimum to reduce the outstanding balance. Writing a formula for this requires the use of the nested IF statement (Mayes, 2012, p. 89). Conclusion. Examples Of Existentialism In The Blade Runner Ethan Davis Professor Lemenager Philosophy 2513 26 September 2016 The Metaphysical Problem of Blade Runner Philosophy can be applied to numerous aspects of existence and life. Existentialism is a popular type of dialogue in philosophy, and it is seen in many current and past films. Film is a way to present philosophical problems to the general public without them actually having to put much thought into it. And it is done in a way that entertains them, so people will be thinking more hypothetically or theoretically than before. Metaphysics is branch of philosophy and it deals with questions about the nature of reality and the nature of human reality. Those questions are easily seen in the blade runner. The mind body problem and the problems of artificial intelligence are also important problems in the blade runner. Many psychologists have argued that such a concept is impossible to measure because it can not be directly observed. Subjects in this experiment were presented two shapes simultaneously, via computer screen, and asked to make judgement, as quickly as possible, as to whether the two shapes presented were the same or mirror images. In conducting this experiment 20 right handed subjects were used, 10 male and 10 female. Subjects participated in this study either to earn course credit, or for payment of ten dollars per hour. Three things were concluded from this experiment. First, picture rotations took longer to perform than letter rotations. Second, there were no sex differences in reaction times for either stimulus presented, and third, there was a linear increase in reaction times as angular disparity of both stimuli sets increased (Desrocher, smith Taylor, 1995). As predicted this study did replicate some previous findings. However, based on the data from this experiment sex differences did not yield a significant difference in reaction times when presented with the different stimuli. Concurrent with our data, both of the previously mentioned experiments concluded the same thing; reaction times increased as angular disparity increased. Dutch scholar Albert Kluyver, would eliminate the cannibal, as it did not exist in English language with the same meaning as in Shakespeare`s time, instead he believes it to mean black in gypsy language. It is very probable that Shakespeare addressed African slaves, since Prospero himself in the play, observes Caliban as filth , something inhuman. (Vaughan and Vaughan). These two themes are first stated in Genesis 1:28, but recur many times throughout Genesis, especially with Abraham, his son Isaac, and Isaac s son Jacob. One challenge Abraham faces in regards to the blessing of progeny is his wife s, Sarah s, barrenness. This barrenness is a fact of her existence. (Brown, 309) At first Sarah gives Abraham one of her slaves, Hagar, in order for him to have a child. (Gen. 16) This is exploitation, but when Hagar becomes pregnant, it improves her situation from being just a slave, to being protected because she is pregnant. (Weems) Hagar gives birth to Ishmael, Abraham s first born. After this, God opens Sarah s womb and she is able to have a child, Isaac. (Gen. 21) Sarah then has Ishmael and Hagar sent away because she wants Isaac to receive the full inheritance by himself. But God promises Abraham that a nation will be made from Ishmael as well as Isaac. Ever since he made the decision to protect his government from the press the law has continued to evolve, and while the regulations have since loosened to give the media freedom, the idea behind the law remains constant.
