Death Penalty In Dead Man Walking
The end of the film, Dead Man Walking, is definitely quite surprising. Throughout the film, the
audience is given an insight into the lives of death row convict Matthew Poncelot and a nun guiding
him to his death. The nun, Sister Helen Prejean, is torn throughout the film; she wants to help Matt
own up to his monstrous acts as well as help the grieving families of Matt s victim s move on.
What is perhaps the most shocking part of the film is the rollercoaster of flashbacks, leading the
audience to be unsure of whether Matt was actually guilty of the crimes that he was on death row for.
It is certainly difficult whether the death penalty is seen as morally wrong or right to decide if a person
should be put to death or not before being sure of the guilt of that person. Once it is revealed that Matt
was guilty of the crimes the rape and murder of a young couple it is difficult to feel sorry for him,
though the film effectively continued to humanize him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The coldness of the death imposed on Matt, and the encouragement of the families of the victims,
must be a difficult thing for Matt and his loved ones to deal with. While what he did was terrible, Matt
s family also had to deal with the loss of a loved one, just like the families of the teenager killed by
Matt.
Another shocking element was how the execution was carried out. In a sterile, unfriendly, impersonal
environment, it isn t hard to imagine the fear and pain that is felt by Matt. With people watching and
encouraging the death, it seems very cold and almost sadistic. Matt s crimes were absolutely atrocious,
but it is not humane to kill someone in such and

Hearing People Communication
This article presented me with many observations on the way both Deaf and hearing people
communicate that I had not considered before. My prior experiences as a non signing hearing person
communicating with Deaf people have been limited to communicating through an interpreter or
slowing down my naturally fast rate of talking so that my lips could read. Admittedly, albeit naïvely, I
had never considered that I could improve my communication with other hearing people through tips
and tricks that Deaf people just use naturally when communicating with one another, however, this
article changed that completely. One thing that kind of surprised me a little at first is that Deaf people
routinely pass messages much faster and more precisely than any hearing person. It would seem like
being able to communicate orally would make getting messages across much easier, however, just
thinking back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Add on top this our tendency to speak over one another and there s a wonder we ever get anything
communicated. ASL requires deaf people to not only speak one at a time, but the people listening have
to give the speaker their full attention so that they can understand what has been said, which is
something that hearing people could definitely improve upon. I also agree with Dr. Kahne s point that
there is a huge difference between our cultures in asking for clarification. If a deaf person doesn t
understand what has been said they will ask to have it repeated, whereas there seems to be a stigma
against that for many hearing people. Since we don t have to have our eyes on the speaker to
understand them, this allows for our eyes, and quite often also our minds, to wander. As a result we
don t end up understanding all or part of what was said and then for whatever reason, instead of asking
them to repeat it, we just smile and nod and pretend like we were paying attention the entire

The Music Of The World Of Music
The world of music has seen many memorable composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi,
but none of them have a story as amazing as the 18th century classical composer Ludwig Van
Beethoven. His life played out like one of his beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows,
victories, and defeats, (Viegas 5). Although he lost his hearing when he was 26 years old, Beethoven
was famous for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western
civilization through the legacy of his music.
Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. He was the son of Johann, a tenor of the court of
the Elector of Cologne, who also taught violin and piano lessons, and the grandson of the man he was
named after, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father, Johann, became an alcoholic as a result of never living up to his father s musical
achievements. His greatest hope for success in life now rested on one individual his young son
Ludwig (Viegas 12). He gave Ludwig, music lessons from when he was very young. Many accounts
believe that Ludwig s father was abusive in his lessons. So dedicated to improving Ludwig s
musicianship, he would beat him or lock him in the cellar. Since these events took place when
Beethoven was at such an impressionable age, it is hard to tell how much of his later obsession with
music came from a love of the craft or from a drive instilled by his domineering father (Viegas 13).
Regardless of his father s dominance, Beethoven s musical prodigy was very natural for him. This is
proven by the fact that although his father encouraged him to play pre existing compositions,
Beethoven composed his own. In 1779, German composer Christian Gottlob Neefe took over Ludwig
s father s role as a music teacher. Mild mannered and well educated, he inspired Beethoven to pursue
his talent for composing music further, and in 1782, Neefe decided to publish Beethoven s
compositions. As Neefe began to publicize 12 year old Beethoven s talents, they caught the attention
of Maximilian Franz, the new elector of the region who had an appreciation for music. He had
Beethoven play the viola for his court orchestra and was very

Ferdinand Porsche Research Paper
Have you ever wondered who was one of the first people to invent an automobile? Well that is exactly
what I m going to be explaining. Ferdinand Porsche is behind the invention of the automobile.
Ferdinand Porsche was one of the first people to create a successful car that was able to operate.
Ferdinand Porsche was born on September 3, 1875 in Maffersdorf, Austria. Ferdinand became
fascinated with electricity at a young age. At 18 years old Ferdinand Porsche got a job at Bela Egger
Co, and electrical company in Vienna that was later renamed Brown Boveri. Around the same time,
Ferdinand enrolled as a part time student at the Imperial Technical University in Reichenberg (now
called Vienna University of Technology). Ferdinand Porsche s work

Nova Scotia Mathematics Curriculum Analysis
It is the messy, complicated picture of teacher work with multiple contexts, interpretations and
impositions of curriculum that we seek (Ayers, W., Quinn, T., Stovall, D. O., Scheiern, L. (2008, p.
308). The Nova Scotia mathematics curriculum was designed based on several key assumptions and
beliefs about learning. Not all of these assumptions and beliefs are in line with cognitive science
literature. First, the Nova Scotia mathematics curriculum states that, students learn by attaching
meaning to what they do and need to construct their own meaning of mathematics (Nova Scotia
Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, 2014, p. 25). While it is difficult to
argue against the premise that meaningful learning is important,

Business Management Essay
I am planning to open a sporting good store. There are certain things I need to do in order to properly
plan, organize, direct, and control this store. I would also need differing levels of management and
decide on a management style that works best for both my store and me. In this paper I would develop
a plan that will cover all these things so that I may open a successful business. I would begin the
planning process by determining what recreational activities are available in the particular
geographical location. I live in Alexandria, Louisiana, so this is where I would probably open my
store. In this area there are numerous places to hunt and fish so I would need to cover these areas
really well. There are also two bowling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

appropriate first line managers. My first line managers would be responsible for ensuring the
employees are doing their assigned duties. My first line managers would be required to work hand in
hand with employees to ensure quality decisions are made on a customer service level. I would
develop an organizational flow chart so that employees and customers would both know who to go to
with any problems that need attention. This flow chart, starting from the lowest level up, would be to
report the situation to the appropriate team leader. If he or she does not resolve the issue, report it to
the team leader. If the situation still is not resolved, or if the problem is with either the team leader or
assistant team leader, the employee would then report it to the appropriate departmental manager. The

would need to report to the store manager, vice president, president, or the CEO, in that order. In the

The Poetry Of An Author
Many critics of poetry are of the opinion to approach the poems or works of an author ignoring or
disregarding their biographical features , as if did not influence at all on the design and creation of his
poems . While it is true that some sepsis can help when it comes to not fall into false interpretations or
twisted and complicated analogies , which amounts to combine meanings of certain verses to personal
circumstances experienced by its author, it is no less true that a good biographical knowledge of vital
events of the authors can greatly help clear this or that dark side that we find in a poem or a work, the
reasons why the title of one form or another or even the way they were ordered poems.
In the case that concerns us Sylvia Plath I could not shake that biographism; What s more, thanks to
him I met the poetry of this woman who, otherwise, would never have aroused my curiosity. So,
biographical circumstance for some critics is almost like a curse. It has been the key element that led
me to the poetry of this woman. My first approach to Sylvia Plath came after seeing the film Sylvia (a
biopic, to increase my biographer fault) starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig in the role of the
poet and her husband respectively. Already knowing the tragic end of Sylvia Plath, was the suicide
scene in that movie that led me to delve into his life and therefore in his work . Sylvia s life had an end
for me very attractive: suicide. It was from there, motivated by the

Diction In Ovid s Metamorphose
Ovid s Metamorphoses is an exceptionally written epic poem that is broken down into fifteen books.
Throughout these books, tales of woe, danger, adventure, and love are told in a way that transports
readers into the rich and exciting world that Ovid has created. In book three, the tale of Narcissus and
Echo is told using beautiful diction and vivid imagery. The story is ultimately about a gorgeous man,
named Narcissus, who toys with the affections of others, which leaves them completely despondent;
and the sorrowful way that his fate takes revenge upon him. In the end, the tale of Narcissus and Echo
demonstrates to its readers that love does not always lead to happiness, but instead has a disastrous
effect upon one s soul.
The tale of Narcissus and Echo starts off by telling us of a mother, Liriope, who goes to see someone
with great prophetic powers named Teiresias. She asks the seer if her child will live a long life and he
responds by saying, Yes, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He started out as a selfish man who could not love, to a dejected man broken down by an extremely
deep, unrequited love, to transforming into a lovely flower after his subsequent death. The
transformations he underwent left him broken and depressed. Poor Narcissus was only able to love a
reflection and never be loved by the one he craved most. An article titled The Narcissus Myth in
Spenser s Poetry states, He dies with his eyes fixed on his image and even in the underworld continues
to gaze at his reflection in the Stygian pool (Edwards 64). Thus, not even in death could Narcissus be
released from his eternal and oppressive torment. Perhaps this is a befitting end to a man who had
broken so many hearts with such careless ease. Overall, Narcissus and Echo serves as a great
cautionary tale to those who disregard and forsake the feelings of others and teaches its readers to be
careful when it comes to

How Did Geography Influence Greco-Roman Culture
Chapter 4
Chapter Review
Geography influenced the Greeks and Roman, as it did many other civilizations. The location of
Greece was on a peninsula. This gave it plenty access to ports which enabled Greece to trade with lots
of other peoples. Although in times of war they could be pushed further into the peninsula with
nothing but sea all around them. This forced them to create ships and other seafaring vessels. Once
again, as in India, mountains separated much of the region. This lead to the rise of City states, such as
the great Sparta or Athens. As the city states developed so did a new form of government called
democracy. A crude version of today s but nonetheless, a democracy. On the other hand, Rome was
surrounded by a volcano ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Athens all male citizens could be governments, but citizens were specially chosen and had a very
small number to them. Women had more rights than in previous civilizations but still had no place in
governments and did not normally mix with men . The upper class life of a women was spinning,
weaving and watching over the slaves. Lower class men and women were expected to work for their
living and slaves had zero rights. In Rome the patrician class ran the government affairs, the Plebeian
class was all the free lower class peoples, the Equestrians were the bankers, and the lowest of people
were the slaves. Slaves were the outright property of their owners. Patriarchal family were still a
mainstay in the mediterranean with the husband as the authority over all male and female family
members. Rome upper class women were often educated because education was seen as a desired
trait.Greece and Rome were quite different in their views of how a women should act in society but

The Large Regulatory Subunit
The large regulatory subunit PriL
The large subunit (PriL) of the primase is a regulatory, non catalytic subunit, where its exact role is
still undefined. Nonetheless, PriL, and in particular PriL C terminal domain (PriL CTD), has been
shown to have an essential role at the initiation stage of primer synthesis, but not during the extension
step. In fact, it is an essential gene in yeast. It has also been inferred that PriL CTD, is involved in the
primase counting mechanism (p58 .counting..). The PriL CTD has an iron sulfur cluster which seems
to play a structural role in conserving the correct three dimentional structure of the CTD (Agarkar et
al. 2011 ; Sauguet et al. 2010 ; Vaithiyalingam et al. 2010 ). To date, the structure of PriL has not been
solved in its integrity. Instead, substructures of a C terminally truncated version of PriL (PriL ΔCTD)
have been solved in archaea and human (....). In addition, the structure of PriL CTD has been reported
for both yeast and human. In fact, two crystal structures were reported for the human p58C (C
terminal domain of the human large subunit) (.....).
In both archaeal and eukaryotic primases, PriL CTD exhibits a similar structure consisting of two
main domains; PriLα and PriL SBD. PriLα is a larger globular helical domain, while PriL SBD is a
smaller domain with a mix of both α and β secondary structures. PriL SBD represents the surface
binding domain that is in direct contact with PriS and constitute the dimerization interface. This

Reimbursement Strategies
Employers often cover the cost of employee outlays for certain expenditures they incur while doing
their job. The way in which employers handle these reimbursements can produce significant tax
savings for both the company and employees. Two reimbursement strategies: accountable vs. non
accountable plans Companies can cover employees expenses in two ways: through an accountable
plan or a non accountable plan. An accountable plan is a reimbursement arrangement adopted by the
company that requires employees to substantiate their business related expenses to the company
within a reasonable time (no more than 60 days from the date of the expense) and to refund to the
company any excess advances within a reasonable period (no more than 120 days

Los Angeles Rams Football Club V. Cannon (Page 76 in textbook)
Background
Billy Cannon is a highly touted draft prospect coming off a successful college career at LSU, which
included a Heisman Trophy win. The Los Angeles Rams of the NFL were the first in signing him to a
$50,000 contract. However, Cannon subsequently signed a $100,000 contract with the AFL s Houston
Oilers. The Rams sued Cannon in an effort to prevent him from performing any football activity for
any organization other than their own.
The Facts Of The Case
The defendant did sign a contract with the Los Angeles Rams covering the span of the 1960 1962
seasons. He then received two checks for $10,000 and $500. Not long after, the defendant signed

Philadelphia Ball Club V Lajoie (Page 83 in Textbook)
Background
The Philadelphia Ball Club was challenging a judgment from Pennsylvania s trial court, which refused
to enforce an injunction against Lajoie for breach of his contract. The court felt that to do so would
render Lajoie so valuable to the ball club that his breach of contract would lead to irreparable
damages. The court felt that the player s value was not that high, and that the language in the contract
in which the ball club could discharge the player at anytime without the player being allowed to do the
same lead to this decision.
The Facts Of The Case
Lajoie signed to play for a rival team during the terms of an existing contract that specifically stated
that Lajoie had not had the right to do so. His value was not determined highly enough to make the
breach of contract valid, leading to the ball club appealing the decision.
Legal Issue At Hand
Was it right that the player s value was not high enough to hold him legally responsible for his breach
of contract?
Appellees Argument
The Ball Club argued that the withdrawal of the player did in fact hurt the ball club, as would the
departure of any good player from any good ball club. Their language was as follows: the defendant is
an expert baseball player in any position; that he has a great reputation as a

Personal Narrative Essay On Brown s Jazz Concert
The second weekend in April was solely dedicated to Brown s jazz festival, which he was very proud
to call the largest jazz festival within the county. Honestly, no one knew if he was telling the truth or
not, but it was best to just nod your head and agree with him. Especially now that he was reiterating
this fact right before we were supposed to go and perform for said jazz festival. He did this very same
thing last night too. The sixteen of us in Jazz One, indicated by the ugly yellow polo shirts, stood in a
circle around Brown, who was ranting away about how much he loved his festival after he finished
tuning all of us. I stopped listening to him after a minute, I was far more focused on the jitters I was
feeling in the pit of my stomach. Tonight was my night. Brendan was right about Brown going with

because we were all seniors. Brendan, as planned, was granted the part of ... Show more content on

ABSTRACT In recent years, digital media are widely popular, their security related issues are
becoming greater importance. Watermarking is the process of hiding digital data in a carrier signal.
Embedding a digital signal such as audio, video or image with the information which cannot be
removed easily is called digital watermarking. Digital watermarking mainly used to verify the
authenticity, integrity of the carrier signal or to show the identity of its owners. In this paper, we
present a survey on various digital watermarking techniques. This paper mainly concentrates a
detailed survey of all watermarking techniques on image watermarking types in today s world.

Accounting System And The Roman Empire
Another Society with their own intricate accounting system was the Roman Empire. This comes as no
surprise because of the scope and size of the Roman Empire; accounting was once again a necessity to
a well maintained society. There is evidence of comprehensive financial statements in the rule of
Emperor Augustus circa 63 BC 14 AD. These statements included information on expenses on
statistics concerning the provinces and dependent kingdoms; direct and indirect taxation; as well as
recurrent expenditures and gifts , as well as, the amounts of cash in the Aerarium...and in the hands of
the publicani (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). The Aerarium was the treasury, and the publicani was the
public. These are similar to what the Chinese had because they were used by the government to go
about completing the financing and running of the empire. These figures could be used to make it
easier to track all the expenses and revenues of the government. The government was not the only
ones to keep accounting records in the Roman Empire either. Account books were kept by those look
to maintain and achieve citizenship. It is believed that men of property at Rome often did write up
their permanent account books about every month. They were required to do this to maintain their
citizenship because citizenship was tied to the amount of property owned and this meant a need to
keep records of it. (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). As well as citizens, accounting was a necessity for

Pathetic Fallacy In The Great Gatsby
The Great Pathetic Fallacy Smiling in the sunshine or seething in a storm, setting is simply a stirring
way to set a scene and scrupulously supply significance to a story. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great
Gatsby, it s easy to understand the atmosphere during important events such as Daisy and Gatsby s
reunion and when Tom confronts Gatsby, this is because of pathetic fallacy. The Great Gatsby uses the
weather to show and emphasise the emotions of the characters allowing the reader to interpret the plot
and mood of important events thoroughly. The weather varies and changes often during Daisy and
Gatsby s reunion, allowing the reader to effectively read the situation and follow the intense emotions
both Daisy and Gatsby are feeling. When Nick invites Daisy to his house as a favor to Gatsby, he
opens the door to Gatsby and states,
Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a
puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes. With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by
me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a wire, and disappeared into the living−room... Aware
of the loud beating of my own heart I pulled the door to against the increasing rain. (Fitzgerald 45)
The increasing rain shows the increasing anxiety Gatsby, and perhaps Nick feels in this situation and
Gatsby standing in the puddle of water shows how his anxiousness is engulfing him. The use of
pathetic fallacy here shows how much Gatsby cares about how this meeting with Daisy will go and
that he fears of a bad reaction to him suddenly appearing. Daisy and Gatsby talk for a while,
afterwards, Nick brings up the weather,
It s stopped raining. Has it? When he realized what I was talking about, that there were twinkle−bells
of sunshine in the room, he smiled like a weather man, like an ecstatic patron of recurrent light, and
repeated the news to Daisy. What do you think of that? It s stopped raining. I m glad, Jay. Her throat,
full of aching, grieving beauty, told only of her unexpected joy (47)
The end of the rain signifies the end of Gatsby s and Daisy s worries, and exhibits their newfound joy.
The pair bond over the now clear skies, or their lack of inhibitions and

Spielberg s Oskar Schindler As A Business Man
One of the most emotional movies I ve ever seen. Spielberg has documented evil and made a moving
tribute to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. The story centers around the true story of Oskar
Schindler, a war profiteer who paid to save the lives of Jews during the holocaust.
The film presents Schindler as a business man, a womanizer, a profiteer, and a humanitarian. This
contrasts allow for a beautiful character development. His interactions with Ralph Fiennes, who is
very chilling as the commandant of the concentration camp Amon Goeth, shows him to be a man
struggling with hypocrisy. He disapproves of Goeth s cold blooded murder and harsh treatment of the
Jews, but he clearly enjoys Goeth s company. He has a hard time reconciling

1. The significance to the story of Miss Johnson and the detailed description of her appearance is that
Miss Johnson was the young boy s chance to get away from isolation and get a chance to fit in with

focused on smaller projects while using more suppliers. A reduction in large contracts is the goal for
many, which in turn will leave more opportunity for entrepreneurs and even larger organizations. The
benefit is, more options will be available and the contracts can be closely manipulated for the good of
others. Offshore Outsourcing in Technology with Regards to the American WorkerDisposition of
Offshore Outsourcing The United States is one of the largest powers in the world when it comes to
offshore outsourcing. However, many economists wonder if it is actually beneficial or destructive to
the American workforce. One of the more predominant reasons outsourcing has become popular is due
to overall savings of costs. These cost savings have proven to raise overall productivity, and have
allowed everyone from small business owners to corporate giants to advance into the next generation
of technology. Some economists classify offshore outsourcing as international trade between countries
leading to a large profit margin for both parties included. Gregory Mankiw is an American

Female Sexuality Within Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre sets a strong example of female sexuality in the Victorian era. The title
character confronts herself with her feelings for Mr. Rochester and her growing throughout the novel.
She eventually finds the courage to embrace herself as she is. Jane s independent mind and nature
contradict the grain of Victorian society. She defies historical notions of female sexuality and
Victorian codes and rules on sexuality. Brontë reimagines the Victorian notion of marriage as she
emphasizes Jane s education and female work. The Introduction of 1983 s The Woman Question Vol.
2 states, Almost any public statement bearing on the Woman Question whether an essay, a review, a
novel, a poem, a lecture, a cartoon, or a painting was likely to generate a chain of responses, and to be
read as a response to prior statements in an ongoing public discussion (Helsinger xi). This quote
conveys the message of Victorian times and their grasp on femininity. Many people, like Charlotte
Brontë, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and John Stuart Mill, disagreed with common conceptions and
advocated for women s beliefs. Others, like those belonging to the True Womanhood Cult, were
motivated, less by chauvinism than by deep needs and genuine concern (57). Self sacrifice and a
submissive role were expected virtues of femininity. Physicians and scientists also introduced a single
minded approach to women s sexuality and behavioral nature. One of the most important and adverse

GM Controversy
By 2008, the recession impacted the global marketplace, as automobile sales declined. This time
period became problematic for GM since the company was near bankruptcy. After weeks on Capitol
Hill in an effort save GM, an automotive bailout package was approved during the Obama
Administration. Gm would receive bailout loans from the America, Canada, and the Ontarian
governments to address the recession, record oil prices, and a serious global automotive crisis. As a
result of GM s bankruptcy filing, the company would reorganize itself. This meant that a popular
brand like the Pontiac would be phased out, while GM focus on North American brands like Cadillac,
GMC, Chevrolet, and Buick. In 2009, the old GM was replaced by the New GM in an effort

An Insight Into Either Ultrasound ( Us ) Or Magnetic...
Introduction
The aim of this literature review is to gain an insight into either Ultrasound (US) or Magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) is the more suitable imaging modality into diagnosing and assessing a tear
within the knee Menisci. Both within trauma and non trauma adult patients.
This section of the review will explain the topic and reasoning into why it was done. The process of its
relevance into radiography in practise will also be outlined. This will provide background into positive
aspects it could bring.
The project targets and hypothesis will be demonstrated within this section.
Background into the Menisus of the knee

Blood supply and age factors
At the time of birth, nearly the whole meniscus is vascularised (Institute of anatomy 1995, Vol. 66,
No. 4, Pages 308 312).
The menisci of the knee gains its blood supply from blood vessels entering from the joint capsule
accompanied by loose connective tissue.
Within the second year of life this is reduced to a avascular region located within the inner fringe of
the joint capsule. At the age of twelve the blood vessels are reduced again, being confined to the
lateral third. (Institute of anatomy 1995, Vol. 66, No. 4, Pages 308 312).
Finally after the age of fifty, only the lateral quarter of the meniscal base is vascularized (Institute of
anatomy 1995, Vol. 66, No. 4, Pages 308 312). This creates problems in older patients with meniscus
tear injuries, making it vital for having the best imaging modality in place to gain an early diagnosis
which would lead to a faster treatment.
Diagnostic Imaging role
The severity of a tear with the knee Menisci can easily be identified through the use of diagnostic
imaging.
Modalities used are commonly; conventional radiography, ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and arthroscopy.
Ultrasound and MRI are the most appropriate imaging modalities for meniscus tears, this is due to
their high sensitivity or image quality and statistics.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses an oscillating sound pressure

Benefits Of A Year New Year
Marriage is also like insurance. There is an actually marriage market in Shanghai. This is where
parents shop for a spouse for their child. The parents will place on a board the child s credentials since
as degrees, skills, height, and also a picture. So other parents would literally shop around like one
would shop for a new dress or suit. Another interesting thing is that divorce really isn t an option. And
even if a couple gets divorce it s like an unspoken rule that they have at least one child first.
Spring Festival better known as Chinese New Year as to be the most interesting part of the culture.
These two weeks is the most important time of the year. This is the time they stop everything even
quit their jobs and go back home. Many people go to work in big cities since as Shanghai but they are
from many miles away in more rural areas. So during the Chinese New Year they leave everything
behind and go back home, some never return to their jobs.
Other amazing factors are that China does not have Facebook like most of the world. They have
WeChat which is controlled by the government. There is approximately 600 million people that use
WeChat and 98% are Chinese. There are also no private banks, all banks are controlled by the
government. And it takes approximately a month to open up a bank account. China is so well control
that the annual salary of most are around $7,000 a year per person. There aren t any private doctors or

The Dangers Of Hitler And The Power Of Adolf Hitler
Adolf Hitler born April 20, 1889, was just a mere citizen until Germany faced world humiliation post
World War I. After World War I Germans faced harsh economic depression during which in turn
caused people to lose trust in their government. Hitler being an intelligent man took advantage of this
opportunity to promote himself and gain power. The Treaty of Versailles, established after WWI, led
Germany to their lowest in world standings. The treaty humiliated Germany as they lost their land,
respect, military, and say in world affairs. Germany is at an all time low needed a savior and that is
where in January of 1993 Hitler stepped in. Hitler used this depression and used fear as a tool to
persuade Germans that he could boost the economy and bring Germany back to power. He promised
the Germans hope, glory, and supreme power. Around the world, national economies were tanking, the
U.S., Germany, England, France, and Italy. People were becoming unemployed and were losing their
homes to bank foreclosures as the cost of living was on a high rise at the time. Everyone wanted
someone to blame for their problems and Hitler gave them just that. Hitler knew about the weaknesses
in Germany at the time and he gave the Germans an innocent race to blame to gain power. He
convinced industrialist that he alone could increase consumerism and in turn bring more production.
With the increase in production Germany s pride would begin to restore both in world standings and at
home. Even

Evolution Of Baseball Research Paper
The Baseball World Filled with Money
Baseball has been part of American history for well over 150 years now. It is considered to be America
s pastime, meaning it is what people loved to do in their off time back in the late 1800s and early
1900s. Baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York in 1839. Back then
baseball was much different than today. Different rules, balls, and equipment than in today s age. As
baseball developed things changed such as the rules and equipment. Better equipment was put into
place to help enhance the performance of the ball players. Baseball has become a sport of scouting.

straight wins in the beginning. As the season started going, the A s started a 20 game winning streak.
Billy was praised for finding these players that were all pulling in the same direction. Not one player
had an ego that would set back the team. Just like Billy, the players were focused on one thing
winning, winning the World Series. Billy lived by this quote, The problem, wrote James, is that
baseball statistics are not pure accomplishments of men against other men, which is what we are in the
habit of seeing them as. They are accomplishments of men in combination with their circumstances
(Lewis 71). Billy just did not focus on the stats rather he also focused on what the player actually
accomplished throughout their years of playing baseball. This is what made him one of the best
general managers in the league at the time. After the A s did not make it past the first round of the
playoffs all of the criticism waiting for the Billy to fail for the first time started to pour in. Billy simply
responded We ll be back. Billy was not viewed as a real general manager in the beginning, but after he
succeeded he gained

An Evaluation Of The Course Review
An evaluation of the course review reveals that there is an ethical ridge that many run along when
attempting to conduct qualitative research. The IRB (Institutional Review Board) was ordained into
federal law to maintain the sanctity and protection of research involving human research subjects. The
rules prescribe that an evaluation must realize any potential, hazards, risks both physical and
psychological that can occur during the study. The IRB review board (OHRP) *see references, must
review all human research and give approval before the actual research can commence to the next
levels. This process also includes any surveys, questionnaires etc... That may exist. All researchers are

Typically, this approach is derived from problem formulation as to the generation of conclusions
supporting said theories. This application however is not indicative to a sound qualitative research
study which fall short of adequately addressing the logic, reasoning and process involving a
qualitative course of research. Qualitative studies should focus on a research design that should be a
reflexive process operating through every stage of a project (Hammersley Atkinson, 1995).
Additionally, (Kaplan , 1964) intimated that a variation between logic in use of a certain study focus
along with reconstructed logic involving research can be interpreted as a design in use type scenario as
related by (Maxwell Loomis, 2002).
The research model formulated under this process generally is composed of five characteristics as
follows; validity, methods, research questions, conceptual framework and Goals. The ethical relation
to the course of research according to (Maxwell Loomis, 2002) is not specifically categorized as an
individual element to the aforementioned above characterizations as they felt that it should be
considered automatically adhered to each and every facet involving the research in its entirety. There
is no doubt that the ethical standards involving research should be expected as purveyed by authors
such as (Christians, 2000; Fien, Weis, Weseen, Wong, 2000; Denzin Lincoln, 2000). In conclusion it is
evident that the most

Billy Collins
Life as A Day There are no two people who will have the same life; the number of years, experiences,
and quality of life are just a few of the things that may change/differ from one person to the next.
However, life will always have a beginning and an end; the day(s) in between those two points is what
makes up a lifetime. In the poem Days by Billy Collins, the temperance of life is portrayed as a day
from start to finish as being synonymous of a lifetime; in other words, life is short and ever changing.
Carpe Diem is what might be said by some. The poem Days is how Billy Collins encourages readers
to seize the day. Each stanza expresses the importance and value of a single day; becoming
increasingly more evident with each line. The transitory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator describes the dawn of a new day as, Today begins cold and bright / the ground heavy
with snow (Collins 5 6). The visual imagery of heavy snow tells the reader that each new day is pure
and a new beginning. Bright and cold is a reference to birth; this is how each day begins. The changes
exhibited through the use of imagery are indicative of the changes that take place throughout a
lifetime. It is easy to visualize each day when the narrator says, this day might be resting somehow /
on the one before it, / all the days of the past stacked high / like the impossible tower of
dishes/entertainers used to build on stage. (Collins 12). The image of each dish placed on top of
another dish compels the reader to see how life has become more complicated, impossible to keep
forever balanced. The imagery used here is much different than the metaphor of fresh snow. This is
how the author expresses time passing, and life is happening. The sense that life is coming to an end is
felt when the narrator says, then holding your breath, / place this cup on yesterday s saucer (Collins 22
23). The imagery prompts the reader to feel uncertainty about the likeliness of another day, but at the
same time wishing very badly for more time. Collins uses imagery to illustrate the fragility of
existence and humanity s quiet desperation to keep going. The poem

The American Army in the Mexican War
During the 19th century, the United States had two armies. Authorized by congress in 1789, the first
was the standing army called as U.S. army. This force consisted of officers commissioned by Congress
and men who joined for a five year period. In 1792. Congress created an auxiliary army called as
militia. The U.S. army was a national force while the militia was the armies of various states. The
militia could be called for federal service: to execute the laws, to suppress insurrections, and to repel
invasions. This two level arrangement formed the basis of military establishment during the war. The
U.S. army was not prepared for the war. The congress authorized 8613 men and officers for the war
but, the actual number was fewer than 5500. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ROLE OF MEDIA
The war between United States and Mexico witnessed use of technological innovations at the strategic
level. This was more evident in communication. Mounted couriers carried battle reports and were
dispatched safely inside sandbags. In the period from 1821 to 1854, steamboats, railroads, and
telegraphs advanced critical communications at speed beyond imagination. Tactical communications
for armies remained unchanged. Drums and flags marked the progress of units. Unit at distant places
received written or verbal orders delivered by the officers. The volunteer messenger formed the
critical link between the commander and his command.
A typical Mexican newspaper followed a standard format during the war. The local, national and
international news were covered in various sections. Letters written by the public to the editors and an

Apollo 13 Thesis
In the movie Apollo 13, Ron Howard experienced many challenges trying to recreate authenticity in
the Apollo 13 space mission s story, while still adding his own creative spin to the movie. In April
1970, National Aeronautic Space Agency (NASA) launched a spacecraft with three astronauts on
board this flight. During this mission, Apollo 13 experienced multiple issues, which caused the
mission to end earlier than expected. After 20 years had passed, Jim Lovell, one of the Apollo 13, and
Jeffrey Kluger wrote Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13, which chronicled this event in
NASA s lunar space history. Soon after its release, this book caught the eye of famous actor and soon

As editors of the movie, Mike Hill and Daniel Hanley were persistently tested in finding ways to
remain as true as possible to the historical event. One way that they did this was through keeping some
of the scenes consistent to the real timing of the events. In one scene, NASA s command center in
Houston, TX lost communication with the spacecraft for some time. As a crucial issue within this
account, Hill and Hanley wanted to keep this same timing in the movie, so they wanted to try to keep
the running time in the film pretty close to the time on the clock and not have radio silence lasting for
nine minutes or something (Apollo 13). Since long periods of silence is not always the best way to
keep an audience s attention, the editors had to find ways to keep the audience engaged while still
staying true to the real event, The whole sequence benefits from some great camera movement and
crane shots which, combined with James Horner s score and sound design by Steve Flick and Chic
Ciccolini, helped immensely to build the tension (Apollo 13). By using a certain sequences, and also
strong music, the editors were able to make this scene one of the most memorable images in the

Plato s System Of Metaphysics
Adrian Farrales
Introduction to Philosophy
Metaphysics
11/6/14
Plato s system of metaphysics revolves around the concept of Eidos, or forms. A form is the perfect
and truest instance of a particular idea. In the world, we find particular instances of each form. For
example, a certain pen is a particular instance of the form of pen. Every single pen in the world
contributes to the form of pen. This contribution of particulars to the forms is called mathexis in
Greek, or simply, participation. The participation of all particulars help to define and derive common
characteristics of the form. Using the pen example, all pens function as a writing utensil, usually
contain some form of ink, and generally are cylindrical. Every pen is somewhat imperfect and has
flaws of some sort. Regarding ontology, these forms are the highest level of reality and the purest form
of existence, while the particulars are imperfect and cheap imitations. Regarding our senses, Plato
believed that the world we live in, that is the world of particulars, is an illusion because the most real
world would be the world of the forms. Thus our senses are not accurate and our sense perceptions are
merely copies of the forms. Plato exemplifies this in the allegory of the cave, portraying a false sense
of reality. Plato believed that these forms are innate to human beings, as we were born with them. By
doing philosophy, we undergo a process of recollection of these forms, ultimately

Mental Illness In Macbeth
Shakespeare, Browning, and Carol Ann Duffy attempt to display their characters in such ways in order
to address heavy social issues within the times in which they were alive, through various writing
techniques.
It is important that we define the term disturbed in order to answer this question to high quality
standard. An adjective that describes the symptoms of mental illness, and psychosis. All traits of
which the writers characters possess.
Shakespeare evidentially displays Macbeths committing regicide in order to address the consequences
of treason towards the reader. Regicide was considered more than just murder back in Shakespearian
time; it could be compared to killing a God. Shakespeare deservingly uses the three witches in order ...

The use of guilt and sin must have been eccentric for Shakespeare, living amongst such a religious
audience, and yet writes so powerfully to which was seen against the words of God. Macbeth s sins
plunge him into a pit of guilt, leading him to an unstable state of mind, contributing to his disturbed
mind set. This slightly contrasts to Carol Ann Duffy s Education for Leisure as the orator doesn t seem
to feel any guilt or sympathy for the sins in which he has committed, unlike Macbeth who to which
changed his attitude., One cried, God bless us! and Amen, the other, as they had seen me with these
hangman s hands. List ning their fear, I could not say Amen, when they did say God bless us .
Methought, I heard a voice cry, Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep . This quote is spoken to
which by Macbeth after he is finished murdering King Duncan, the phrase Macbeth does murder sleep
cunningly refers to how Macbeth will suffer horribly from his actions by his guilt. The insomnia that
Macbeth suffers displays how he is uncomfortable after making a decision to try and claim his
manhood. Robert Browning The laboratory contrasts immensely to Macbeth, as the orator gets
pleasure out of the sins in which he/she has committed. Furthermore to which goes against the belief
of God, Empty church, to pray God in, for them! I am here so to which, his sins have no meaning,
which means there is no barrier blocking him from gaining his pleasure from his doings. However it
does slightly link in with another one of Robert Browning s pieces Porphyria s lover , it is clearly
evident that the orator has no sympathy what so ever for his victim, which he strangles to death, seen
as one of the most painful ways to die, but in order to cover his sins he try s to persuade himself that it
was a happy moment, The smiling rosy

A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats
A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats
William Blake, John Keats and William Wordsworth all believe in the depth of the world and the
possibilities of the human heart. However, each poet looks towards different periods in time to capture
meaning in life. Blake looks towards the future for his inspiration, Keats towards the present and
Wordsworth towards the past. Regardless of where each poet looks for their inspiration they are all
looking for the same thing; timeless innocence. Each poet sought to transcend time by creating works
that dealt with life, death, hope and imagination and to discover some kind of deep truth or meaning in
existence. Life and death is an issue that we will all have to deal with at some point in our life ... Show

Technological advancement and social progress were steps backwards for Wordsworth and thus he
looked to the past for his inspiration.
John Keats did not have the luxury time that Wordsworth had to look to the past and reminisce about
things that were because he knew he did not have long to live. Even from a young age Keats felt his
life would be a short one and he so he applied himself to his art with a desperate urgency . Keats died
at twenty six years old and managed to leave behind some of the greatest poetry ever written. He didn
t bother to look toward the future because he knew that he wouldn t live to see it and he didn t look to
the past because he decided that it was more important to live in the moment.
Keats was very aware of his own mortality and his poetry reflected the intensity and the passion of a
man who didn t have very long to live. His poetry remains some of the densest prose ever penned
because, like his brief existence, he had to condense so much life into so little space. The thought of
impending death would be enough to make anyone fall into hopeless despair but Keats s incredible
talents and commitment to live in the moment perhaps allowed him to three lifetimes. The Chimney
Sweeper is a quintessential Blake poem as it embodies his belief in looking towards the future for
hope and comfort. Additionally, the poem is a perfect example of a child s movement from innocence

Comparing The Gods In The Illiad And The Sakuntala
Gods and other supernatural beings have played a role in human mythologies and storytelling for as
long as stories have been told. Even the ancient texts of the oldest known civilization, the Sumerians,
tell tales of great and powerful gods that would influence their culture and way of life. In storytelling
gods and the supernatural continue to have direct roles in stories, oftentimes influencing the outcome
based of favor towards an individual or group. In particular this can be seen in The Illiad and The
Sakuntala, but also in modern day movies, books, and television shows. Intervention of the gods can

  • 2. Death Penalty In Dead Man Walking The end of the film, Dead Man Walking, is definitely quite surprising. Throughout the film, the audience is given an insight into the lives of death row convict Matthew Poncelot and a nun guiding him to his death. The nun, Sister Helen Prejean, is torn throughout the film; she wants to help Matt own up to his monstrous acts as well as help the grieving families of Matt s victim s move on. What is perhaps the most shocking part of the film is the rollercoaster of flashbacks, leading the audience to be unsure of whether Matt was actually guilty of the crimes that he was on death row for. It is certainly difficult whether the death penalty is seen as morally wrong or right to decide if a person should be put to death or not before being sure of the guilt of that person. Once it is revealed that Matt was guilty of the crimes the rape and murder of a young couple it is difficult to feel sorry for him, though the film effectively continued to humanize him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The coldness of the death imposed on Matt, and the encouragement of the families of the victims, must be a difficult thing for Matt and his loved ones to deal with. While what he did was terrible, Matt s family also had to deal with the loss of a loved one, just like the families of the teenager killed by Matt. Another shocking element was how the execution was carried out. In a sterile, unfriendly, impersonal environment, it isn t hard to imagine the fear and pain that is felt by Matt. With people watching and encouraging the death, it seems very cold and almost sadistic. Matt s crimes were absolutely atrocious, but it is not humane to kill someone in such and ... • 3. Hearing People Communication This article presented me with many observations on the way both Deaf and hearing people communicate that I had not considered before. My prior experiences as a non signing hearing person communicating with Deaf people have been limited to communicating through an interpreter or slowing down my naturally fast rate of talking so that my lips could read. Admittedly, albeit naïvely, I had never considered that I could improve my communication with other hearing people through tips and tricks that Deaf people just use naturally when communicating with one another, however, this article changed that completely. One thing that kind of surprised me a little at first is that Deaf people routinely pass messages much faster and more precisely than any hearing person. It would seem like being able to communicate orally would make getting messages across much easier, however, just thinking back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Add on top this our tendency to speak over one another and there s a wonder we ever get anything communicated. ASL requires deaf people to not only speak one at a time, but the people listening have to give the speaker their full attention so that they can understand what has been said, which is something that hearing people could definitely improve upon. I also agree with Dr. Kahne s point that there is a huge difference between our cultures in asking for clarification. If a deaf person doesn t understand what has been said they will ask to have it repeated, whereas there seems to be a stigma against that for many hearing people. Since we don t have to have our eyes on the speaker to understand them, this allows for our eyes, and quite often also our minds, to wander. As a result we don t end up understanding all or part of what was said and then for whatever reason, instead of asking them to repeat it, we just smile and nod and pretend like we were paying attention the entire ... • 4. The Music Of The World Of Music The world of music has seen many memorable composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi, but none of them have a story as amazing as the 18th century classical composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. His life played out like one of his beautiful symphonies, with unimaginable highs, lows, victories, and defeats, (Viegas 5). Although he lost his hearing when he was 26 years old, Beethoven was famous for his nine symphonies, and is also recognized as one of the cornerstones of Western civilization through the legacy of his music. Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany. He was the son of Johann, a tenor of the court of the Elector of Cologne, who also taught violin and piano lessons, and the grandson of the man he was named after, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His father, Johann, became an alcoholic as a result of never living up to his father s musical achievements. His greatest hope for success in life now rested on one individual his young son Ludwig (Viegas 12). He gave Ludwig, music lessons from when he was very young. Many accounts believe that Ludwig s father was abusive in his lessons. So dedicated to improving Ludwig s musicianship, he would beat him or lock him in the cellar. Since these events took place when Beethoven was at such an impressionable age, it is hard to tell how much of his later obsession with music came from a love of the craft or from a drive instilled by his domineering father (Viegas 13). Regardless of his father s dominance, Beethoven s musical prodigy was very natural for him. This is proven by the fact that although his father encouraged him to play pre existing compositions, Beethoven composed his own. In 1779, German composer Christian Gottlob Neefe took over Ludwig s father s role as a music teacher. Mild mannered and well educated, he inspired Beethoven to pursue his talent for composing music further, and in 1782, Neefe decided to publish Beethoven s compositions. As Neefe began to publicize 12 year old Beethoven s talents, they caught the attention of Maximilian Franz, the new elector of the region who had an appreciation for music. He had Beethoven play the viola for his court orchestra and was very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nova Scotia Mathematics Curriculum Analysis It is the messy, complicated picture of teacher work with multiple contexts, interpretations and impositions of curriculum that we seek (Ayers, W., Quinn, T., Stovall, D. O., Scheiern, L. (2008, p. 308). The Nova Scotia mathematics curriculum was designed based on several key assumptions and beliefs about learning. Not all of these assumptions and beliefs are in line with cognitive science literature. First, the Nova Scotia mathematics curriculum states that, students learn by attaching meaning to what they do and need to construct their own meaning of mathematics (Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, 2014, p. 25). • 8. The Poetry Of An Author Many critics of poetry are of the opinion to approach the poems or works of an author ignoring or disregarding their biographical features , as if did not influence at all on the design and creation of his poems . While it is true that some sepsis can help when it comes to not fall into false interpretations or twisted and complicated analogies , which amounts to combine meanings of certain verses to personal circumstances experienced by its author, it is no less true that a good biographical knowledge of vital events of the authors can greatly help clear this or that dark side that we find in a poem or a work, the reasons why the title of one form or another or even the way they were ordered poems. In the case that concerns us Sylvia Plath I could not shake that biographism; What s more, thanks to him I met the poetry of this woman who, otherwise, would never have aroused my curiosity. So, biographical circumstance for some critics is almost like a curse. It has been the key element that led me to the poetry of this woman. My first approach to Sylvia Plath came after seeing the film Sylvia (a biopic, to increase my biographer fault) starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig in the role of the poet and her husband respectively. Already knowing the tragic end of Sylvia Plath, was the suicide scene in that movie that led me to delve into his life and therefore in his work . Sylvia s life had an end for me very attractive: suicide. It was from there, motivated by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Diction In Ovid s Metamorphose Ovid s Metamorphoses is an exceptionally written epic poem that is broken down into fifteen books. Throughout these books, tales of woe, danger, adventure, and love are told in a way that transports readers into the rich and exciting world that Ovid has created. In book three, the tale of Narcissus and Echo is told using beautiful diction and vivid imagery. The story is ultimately about a gorgeous man, named Narcissus, who toys with the affections of others, which leaves them completely despondent; and the sorrowful way that his fate takes revenge upon him. In the end, the tale of Narcissus and Echo demonstrates to its readers that love does not always lead to happiness, but instead has a disastrous effect upon one s soul. The tale of Narcissus and Echo starts off by telling us of a mother, Liriope, who goes to see someone with great prophetic powers named Teiresias. Thus, not even in death could Narcissus be released from his eternal and oppressive torment. Perhaps this is a befitting end to a man who had broken so many hearts with such careless ease. • 10. How Did Geography Influence Greco-Roman Culture Chapter 4 Chapter Review Geography influenced the Greeks and Roman, as it did many other civilizations. The location of Greece was on a peninsula. This gave it plenty access to ports which enabled Greece to trade with lots of other peoples. Although in times of war they could be pushed further into the peninsula with nothing but sea all around them. This forced them to create ships and other seafaring vessels. Once again, as in India, mountains separated much of the region. This lead to the rise of City states, such as the great Sparta or Athens. • 12. The Large Regulatory Subunit The large regulatory subunit PriL The large subunit (PriL) of the primase is a regulatory, non catalytic subunit, where its exact role is still undefined. Nonetheless, PriL, and in particular PriL C terminal domain (PriL CTD), has been shown to have an essential role at the initiation stage of primer synthesis, but not during the extension step. In fact, it is an essential gene in yeast. It has also been inferred that PriL CTD, is involved in the primase counting mechanism (p58 .counting..). The PriL CTD has an iron sulfur cluster which seems to play a structural role in conserving the correct three dimentional structure of the CTD (Agarkar et al. 2011 ; Sauguet et al. 2010 ; Vaithiyalingam et al. 2010 ). To date, the structure of PriL has not been solved in its integrity. Instead, substructures of a C terminally truncated version of PriL (PriL ΔCTD) have been solved in archaea and human (....). Philadelphia Ball Club V Lajoie (Page 83 in Textbook) Background The Philadelphia Ball Club was challenging a judgment from Pennsylvania s trial court, which refused to enforce an injunction against Lajoie for breach of his contract. The court felt that to do so would render Lajoie so valuable to the ball club that his breach of contract would lead to irreparable damages. The court felt that the player s value was not that high, and that the language in the contract in which the ball club could discharge the player at anytime without the player being allowed to do the same lead to this decision. The Facts Of The Case Lajoie signed to play for a rival team during the terms of an existing contract that specifically stated that Lajoie had not had the right to do so. His value was not determined highly enough to make the breach of contract valid, leading to the ball club appealing the decision. Legal Issue At Hand Was it right that the player s value was not high enough to hold him legally responsible for his breach of contract? Especially now that he was reiterating this fact right before we were supposed to go and perform for said jazz festival. He did this very same thing last night too. The sixteen of us in Jazz One, indicated by the ugly yellow polo shirts, stood in a circle around Brown, who was ranting away about how much he loved his festival after he finished tuning all of us. I stopped listening to him after a minute, I was far more focused on the jitters I was feeling in the pit of my stomach. Tonight was my night. • 17. Accounting System And The Roman Empire Another Society with their own intricate accounting system was the Roman Empire. This comes as no surprise because of the scope and size of the Roman Empire; accounting was once again a necessity to a well maintained society. There is evidence of comprehensive financial statements in the rule of Emperor Augustus circa 63 BC 14 AD. These statements included information on expenses on statistics concerning the provinces and dependent kingdoms; direct and indirect taxation; as well as recurrent expenditures and gifts , as well as, the amounts of cash in the Aerarium...and in the hands of the publicani (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). The Aerarium was the treasury, and the publicani was the public. These are similar to what the Chinese had because they were used by the government to go about completing the financing and running of the empire. These figures could be used to make it easier to track all the expenses and revenues of the government. The government was not the only ones to keep accounting records in the Roman Empire either. Account books were kept by those look to maintain and achieve citizenship. It is believed that men of property at Rome often did write up their permanent account books about every month. They were required to do this to maintain their citizenship because citizenship was tied to the amount of property owned and this meant a need to keep records of it. (Oldroyd, The Role... , 1995). As well as citizens, accounting was a necessity for the soldier of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, it s easy to understand the atmosphere during important events such as Daisy and Gatsby s reunion and when Tom confronts Gatsby, this is because of pathetic fallacy. The Great Gatsby uses the weather to show and emphasise the emotions of the characters allowing the reader to interpret the plot and mood of important events thoroughly. The weather varies and changes often during Daisy and Gatsby s reunion, allowing the reader to effectively read the situation and follow the intense emotions both Daisy and Gatsby are feeling. When Nick invites Daisy to his house as a favor to Gatsby, he opens the door to Gatsby and states, Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes. With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a wire, and disappeared into the living−room... Aware of the loud beating of my own heart I pulled the door to against the increasing rain. (Fitzgerald 45) The increasing rain shows the increasing anxiety Gatsby, and perhaps Nick feels in this situation and Gatsby standing in the puddle of water shows how his anxiousness is engulfing him. The use of pathetic fallacy here shows how much Gatsby cares about how this meeting with Daisy will go and that he fears of a bad reaction to him suddenly appearing. Daisy and Gatsby talk for a while, afterwards, Nick brings up the weather, It s stopped raining. Has it? When he realized what I was talking about, that there were twinkle−bells of sunshine in the room, he smiled like a weather man, like an ecstatic patron of recurrent light, and repeated the news to Daisy. What do you think of that? It s stopped raining. I m glad, Jay. Her throat, full of aching, grieving beauty, told only of her unexpected joy (47) The end of the rain signifies the end of Gatsby s and Daisy s worries, and exhibits their newfound joy. Spielberg has documented evil and made a moving tribute to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. The story centers around the true story of Oskar Schindler, a war profiteer who paid to save the lives of Jews during the holocaust. The film presents Schindler as a business man, a womanizer, a profiteer, and a humanitarian. This contrasts allow for a beautiful character development. His interactions with Ralph Fiennes, who is very chilling as the commandant of the concentration camp Amon Goeth, shows him to be a man struggling with hypocrisy. • 24. Female Sexuality Within Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre sets a strong example of female sexuality in the Victorian era. The title character confronts herself with her feelings for Mr. Rochester and her growing throughout the novel. She eventually finds the courage to embrace herself as she is. Jane s independent mind and nature contradict the grain of Victorian society. She defies historical notions of female sexuality and Victorian codes and rules on sexuality. Brontë reimagines the Victorian notion of marriage as she emphasizes Jane s education and female work. The Introduction of 1983 s The Woman Question Vol. 2 states, Almost any public statement bearing on the Woman Question whether an essay, a review, a novel, a poem, a lecture, a cartoon, or a painting was likely to generate a chain of responses, and to be read as a response to prior statements in an ongoing public discussion (Helsinger xi). This quote conveys the message of Victorian times and their grasp on femininity. Many people, like Charlotte Brontë, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and John Stuart Mill, disagreed with common conceptions and advocated for women s beliefs. Others, like those belonging to the True Womanhood Cult, were motivated, less by chauvinism than by deep needs and genuine concern (57). Within the second year of life this is reduced to a avascular region located within the inner fringe of the joint capsule. At the age of twelve the blood vessels are reduced again, being confined to the lateral third. (Institute of anatomy 1995, Vol. 66, No. 4, Pages 308 312). Finally after the age of fifty, only the lateral quarter of the meniscal base is vascularized (Institute of anatomy 1995, Vol. 66, No. 4, Pages 308 312). This creates problems in older patients with meniscus tear injuries, making it vital for having the best imaging modality in place to gain an early diagnosis which would lead to a faster treatment. Diagnostic Imaging role The severity of a tear with the knee Menisci can easily be identified through the use of diagnostic imaging. Modalities used are commonly; conventional radiography, ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and arthroscopy. In the poem Days by Billy Collins, the temperance of life is portrayed as a day from start to finish as being synonymous of a lifetime; in other words, life is short and ever changing. The visual imagery of heavy snow tells the reader that each new day is pure and a new beginning. Bright and cold is a reference to birth; this is how each day begins. The changes exhibited through the use of imagery are indicative of the changes that take place throughout a lifetime. It is easy to visualize each day when the narrator says, this day might be resting somehow / on the one before it, / all the days of the past stacked high / like the impossible tower of dishes/entertainers used to build on stage. (Collins 12). The image of each dish placed on top of another dish compels the reader to see how life has become more complicated, impossible to keep forever balanced. The imagery used here is much different than the metaphor of fresh snow. This is how the author expresses time passing, and life is happening. The sense that life is coming to an end is felt when the narrator says, then holding your breath, / place this cup on yesterday s saucer (Collins 22 23). • 34. Plato s System Of Metaphysics Adrian Farrales Introduction to Philosophy Metaphysics 11/6/14 Plato s system of metaphysics revolves around the concept of Eidos, or forms. A form is the perfect and truest instance of a particular idea. In the world, we find particular instances of each form. For example, a certain pen is a particular instance of the form of pen. Every single pen in the world contributes to the form of pen. This contribution of particulars to the forms is called mathexis in Greek, or simply, participation. The participation of all particulars help to define and derive common characteristics of the form. Using the pen example, all pens function as a writing utensil, usually contain some form of ink, and generally are cylindrical. Every pen is somewhat imperfect and has flaws of some sort. Regarding ontology, these forms are the highest level of reality and the purest form of existence, while the particulars are imperfect and cheap imitations. Regarding our senses, Plato believed that the world we live in, that is the world of particulars, is an illusion because the most real world would be the world of the forms. Thus our senses are not accurate and our sense perceptions are merely copies of the forms. Plato exemplifies this in the allegory of the cave, portraying a false sense of reality. Plato believed that these forms are innate to human beings, as we were born with them. By doing philosophy, we undergo a process of recollection of these forms, ultimately ...
