Using Auras ( Multimedia Overlays Created By The Aurasma
Introduction A kindergarten teacher desired to create an augmented reality experience to enhance
her students ability to learn sight words from her word wall. Augmented reality was defined as an
environment that includes both virtual reality and real world elements by Azuma (1997). This
paper evaluated the value of using auras (multimedia overlays created by the Aurasma (2011)
software to create the augmented reality over the real classroom environment, specifically the word
wall. Instructional Setting, Audience, and Content Area Instructional Setting The setting was a
public school classroom with 21 kindergarten students. The instruction took place in small groups,
with the students rotating through various centers around the classroom.... Show more content on

The teacher had to help all the other centers and tend to individual student needs simultaneously.
This meant the students had to be intermittently self directed and focused to accomplish the tasks
at each center. Audience The target audience was the kindergarten students, ages five to six
years old. They come from a range of socio economic backgrounds. The school overall had about
40% of their students participating in the free/reduced lunch program. There were seven students
who self identified as being of color (Hispanic, African American and others). There were six
students with various learning challenges and IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). There
were four students who started the year with minimal to non existent English speaking skills.
Content Area In alignment with state requirements, students are expected to be able to write
certain words before the end of the school year. In support of this, the teacher had a writing
center. Frequently the assignment would have students copying some text from a template, but
they were also expected to decode words they did not know. Additionally they were to use the
word wall to find and copy sight words. The teacher has songs and visual reminders for how to
spell the challenging words, but these cannot be put on the word wall. She desired an augmented
reality experience for the students, which would allow them to use the classroom iPads to highlight
a word, and see the associated aural or visual

Grea Great Bosses
LIKE A BOSS
Are you just an average boss or truly a great one?
No doubt there are as many leadership styles as there are the numbers of leaders. However, I bet
there are some people for whom you would immediately work for over and over again.
You ve said things like: love that guy, changed my life, best bossever.
Are your employees saying the same about you?
With the help of Gallup poll findings, the Harvard Business Review conducted a two year study of
the daily interactions of over 80,000 managers. This comprehensive research uncovered findings of
what brings out employee devotion and optimal performance.
What makes a great boss?
Research found that the ultimate boss separates him/herself from the supervisor herd by focusing
on employee skills and talents. Successful supervisors have an uncanny ability to discover what is
uniquely awesome about each person, capitalize on that individual s talent, and then build teams
and systems around it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, average to good managers play checkers while the best supervisors play chess.
Think about it this way. In checkers, the pieces all move the same way and have the same value. In
essence, the game pieces are interchangeable. If you understand checkers, and use a system to align
the pieces, you can get through an eight hour day and grind on.
Now think about the game of chess. Each chess piece has its own value and moves in a different
way. Chess is a game of strategic thinking. It s only by using the unique aspects of each piece and
integrating them into your over game plan that you win in chess.
So, switch your game from checkers to chess and watch your team s performance grow.
Here s how to change your

The Literary Theory Known as Post-Colonialism
The literary theory known as Post Colonialism is easily defined in content but not in its beginning
or end. Ashcroft, Griffins, and Tiffin state that the term covers all the culture affected by the
imperial process from the moment of colonization to the present day (2). They focus on the
territories colonized by Britain in Empire Writes Back but state that the analysis can apply to the
former empires of France, Spain, and Portugal. This view falls in line with the issue brought up by
Childs and Williams about after whose empire or whose colonization does it begin? The United
States in the 1700s, the Latin American states in the 1800s, or the mid 1900s fall of the British and
French empires (1)? What is agreed upon is that the focus is on writing about the effects or culture
in post colonial societies or examining colonial literature with an eye for the moral superiority,
racial discrimination, or Eurocentric viewpoint. Writers such as Rushdie, Said, and Achebe all
belong to this movement with their discussions of the life and culture of the Indian Subcontinent,
Eastern culture, and Nigeria respectively. Said, one of the eminent post colonial critics, writes in
Orientalism that the concept of the Orient and Oriental culture are Western colonial constructs.
Orient describes everything cultural or social in Asia lumping the Arab culture of the Middle East,
the Buddhist culture of Southeast Asia, and the ancient cultures of China and Japan as parts of a
single entity. Said

Moral Values of Silas Marner and Godfrey Cass Essay
Justice is the quality of being just as well as complying with the principle of righteousness and
also performing one s moral obligations (Oxford Dictionary). Moral values are important in Silas
Marner throughout the novel as those people who do good deeds are rewarded while those who
fail in their moral duties to others are punished. As George Eliotwas a religious person, she believed
in fate and providence as there was a higher being rewarding and punishing our conduct. This theme
is portrayed throughout the book and seen most prominently in the characters of Silas Marnerand
Godfrey Cass.
Silas starts the story as a popular man from Lantern Yard as he is a regular attendee to church and
is well respected. He is referred to as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Silas Marner is the main protagonist in the book, although the reader is not given a good
impression at the start of the novel. He is full of greed and his only joy and pleasure is seeing
his precious gold. This can be backed up by the quote Silas lived in solitude, his guineas rising in
the iron pot (Chapter 2 page 19). His reaction when his gold is stolen is that of disbelief. It is as
if one of his family members has died. The quotes His heart leapt violently and His trembling
hand prove this. This incident is very ironic as people had accused him of stealing money but
now the tide had turned and now it was his money which had been stolen. The consequence of
the stolen money means that Silas opens up to the whole of the community. He starts to become
good friends with Dolly Winthrop, the wheelwright s wife. Chapter 12 sees the turning point of
Silas life. The readers are also introduced to Molly Farren, Godfrey Cass wife. Molly is addicted
to opium and this leads to her dying and, perhaps by coincidence, her baby arrives at Silas door.
At first, he thinks his gold has arrived but this gift is more important than his gold according to
him. Silas instantly becomes a better person when the child arrives at his door. He used to crave
his precious guineas but now he desires this baby. The thoughts and cravings he had for his gold
have now been replaced by this treasure . He says that She ll be my little un and nobody

Advantages And Disadvantages Of DEA
Operating Expenses
It is also called establishment cost. It is incurred for maintaining the staff, premises etc. and for
carrying day to day operations. Major types of operating expenditure are:
пЂ Payment to and provisions for employees which includes staff salaries, allowances, bonus etc.
пЂ Rent, taxes and lighting
пЂ Printing, stationary, advertisement and publicity
пЂ Depreciation, Director‟s fees, Auditor‟s fees etc.
Payment to employees is the major element in operating cost. Because of industry wide wage
agreements banks in India have very little flexibility in rationing the same.

An analyst should keep these limitations in mind when choosing whether or not to use DEA. (P.
Kumar, 2006)
пѓ пЂ Since DEA is an extreme point technique, noise (even symmetrical noise with zero mean)
such as measurement error can cause significant problems.
пѓ пЂ DEA is good at estimating relative efficiency of a DMU but it coverage‟s very slowly
to absolute efficiency. In other words, it can tell you that you are doing compared to your peers but
not compared to a theoretical maximum.
пѓ пЂ Since DEA is a non parametric technique, statistical hypothesis tests are difficult and are the
focus of ongoing research.
пѓ пЂ Since a standard formulation of DEA creates a separate linear program for each DMU,
large problems can be computationally intensive.
пѓ пЂ DEA does not provide rank to 100% efficient units. It is difficult to tell which bankis more
efficient among 100% efficient bank.
In spite of above these limitations, DEA is powerful tool for service industry specially in banking
sector. According to Tapiawala (2010) DEA has been found to be suitable in solving the following
three basic performance questions that any bank is faced

Bcg Matrix Is A Model Developed By Bruce Henderson Of The...
The BCG matrix is a model developed by Bruce Henderson of the Boston Consulting Group
(NetMBA). The goal of the BCG matrix was to allow fellow marketers to easily analyze a
product, whether it be old, or new, as to how effective it was in that particular market and if the
product was successful in its overall product growth and market share. When it comes to selling
a product, a company must overcome competitors in the same market who are looking to take a
piece of the share of consumers. Therefore, in order to be successful, the use of a model such as
the BCG allows a marketer to assess their competitive advantages as well as the ability to calculate
the relative market share. For example, once you have products that have hit the market and have
already established themselves, you can check back and cross examine those products to see which
ones are important to your success as an organization and which ones you should contemplate
scaling back on because these products may be viewed as questionable. According to NetMBA the
BCG matrix contains four key components; the stars, the cash cows, dogs, and question marks. The
stars of the matrix are the go getters. This part of the mix contains your products that continuously
show an increase in growth industry within the market and a high market share. In other words,
these products have been so superb that they influence deeper looks into how to smartly invest
whilst bringing about a noticeable change to rekindle interest in

Identity In John Locke s The Grapes Of Wrath
Seeking identity is an important aspect in the present global society. The interactions of
between different groups of people are characterized by the unique qualities the members of
those groups identify with. These groups are defined by race, class, religion, sex, politics, etc.
Ironically, as a whole, mankind has more similarities than differences: religions typically share
the common core values of love and peace, facial expressions are understood worldwide, and
mankind even has a 90% shared genome. Perhaps our similarities are what drive us to seek
individuality, or some evidence of specialness, and purpose: we seem to have an accepted idea
that If I m different, I must be here for contribution and reason . I find Locke s philosophy
compelling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, he states there is no evidence to suggest that the same individual spirit may not be
united to different bodies. I find this interesting because this broad assertion depicts a sense of
unity of one soul with all of mankind, throughout time. His suggestion strikes me as somewhat
mystical: if the same soul or man was present in different ages, it sounds like a form of
reincarnation. However, instead of reincarnation as plants or animals, Locke excludes non
human bodies. If this were true, then who is to say our souls are not tied to all times in history,
and therefore all people in history. It reminds me of The Grapes of Wrath, where the unity of
mankind versus religion is holy. His assertion suggests to me an element of creating an on earth
as it is in heaven scenario where unity is correlated with peace. In addition, if one were to
experience all souls in all time, would this not make one God? Locke himself does not suggest
this, and my understanding of what he is trying to convey may be mistaken. Even if his assertion
is true, present violence, etc. is not affected by this supposed degree of unity. Nevertheless, I find
this aspect of Locke s philosophy compelling because I interpreted it as hinting at an extent of

Genocide In Bosnia Research Paper
Genocide In Bosnia The Genocide in Bosnia was the outcome of misleadership and late

Vincent Willem Van Gogh Research Paper
Vincent Willem Van Gogh was a Dutchman born on March 30, 1853 in Groot Zundert,
Netherlands. The Starry Night is one of Van Gogh s famous paintings in the world. It was
believed that his painting was the view from his bedroom window. After a petition was signed
saying Vincent Van Gogh was dangerous, they moved him to an asylum. He lived in a hospital
where he suffered occasional relapse into delusions. While he was there, he was able to read, paint
and withdraw from his room. As he was going through depression, Van Gogh then began to have
hallucinations and even have thoughts of suicide. His art helped him stay emotionally balanced. He
then started to paint The Starry Night, and used dark colors. For example, in the painting he clearly
paints all the buildings dark and black and paints the stars and the moon brighter to make it stand
out more. In his painting, he included a cypress tree which is usually found in cemeteries and

The Real Life Example Of Shared Knowledge And Personal...
How do you gain shared knowledge? Let us take a cake for example; the cake is made up of
many different ingredients. A recipe may be said to be knowledge because it tells you how to
make the cake step by step. Looking at this shared knowledge shapes your personal knowledge
and next time you might not need the recipe because the recipe would be part of your own
personal knowledge. If shared knowledge is knowledge that has been received from people or
sources around you then personal knowledge is knowledge that is gained directly through firsthand
experienceor observation .
Shared knowledge usually shapes personal knowledge. Even when an inexperienced cook has a
recipe, they might still not be able to make a good cake. Looking at this example we can see that
the shared knowledge being the recipe can shape the personal knowledge of both the cooks and
because the experienced cook has more personal knowledge, he is able to come up with a better
cake than the inexperienced cook.
Let use an example from cooking to illustrate how shared knowledge can shape personal knwledge.

The Theory X And Theory Y Essay
The ability to predict the behavior of employees in an organization is a key element in encouraging
and ensuring that employees to produce desired results. Some employees usually take great pride in
their work and obtain satisfaction from performing their duties well. Such employees are innately
motivated (Douglas McGregor: Theory X and Theory Y, 2015). Other employees are never proud
of their work. They simply work because they believe that they cannot survive without their jobs.
Such employees are externally motivated (they require an outside force to compel them to perform
their duties) (Theory X and Theory Y: Understanding Team Member Motivation, 2016). These ideas
about employee behavior and much more have been developed by social psychologist and
managementprofessionals, such as Douglas Mc Gregor, Abraham Maslow, and Herzberg, in the
form of theories to help managers and employees predict each other s behavior. This paper focuses
on the Theory X and Theory Y, which were both developed by Douglas McGregor. It describes the
theories and analyzes their effectiveness in predicting human behavior.
Theory X and Theory Y
Unlike other theories that usually focus on employees, Theory X and Theory Y focus on managers
and the perceptions they have about their employees, which in turn influences their behavior
towards their employees (Theory X and Theory Y: Understanding Team Member Motivation, 2016).
Different managers have different perceptions about the things that motivate

Barrio Rising Book Report
Barrio Rising is a book about urban popular politics and the making of modern Venezuela. It
portrays the democracy and violence in Venezuela between the 1950s and the Bolivarian Revolution
of 1998. People who lived during these times protested about the unfair treatment they received
from the government. They acted out in violence, guerilla warfares, and protesting. Their main
goal, in these communities, was to have their voices heard and their demands met to their standards.
In the 1950s, Marcos PГ©rez JimГ©nez, the president, modernized Venezuela by building dozens

Les Demoiselles D Avignon Andre Salmon Analysis

Cubism written during Picasso s time in 1912, and the David Lomas article In Another Frame: Les
Demoiselles D Avignon and Physical Anthropology. The Salmon essay, as the title suggests,
focuses on the Cubist movement as it was understood during his time, making sure to delineate
Picassos early work as Picassisme. Salmon recognises the novel aspect of Cubism as a way in
which to depict an object holistically through geometric forms and painting beings and things such
as they are and not as our eye recognizes them... . He describes the disjointed history of the

The Lomas article takes a more specific approach by looking at Picassos Les Demoiselles D
Avignon and how the form of the prostitutes could have been shaped by the dominant physical
anthropological doctrine of the day. Lomas also studies Demoiselles as Picasso s challenge and
in many ways, celebration, of the widespread belief about the degeneration of Western civilized
society. Lomas provides a background on the common anthropological beliefs of the day with a
focus on anthropometry, which gave scientific backing to the racial, cultural and sexual hierarchy;
a hierarchy that Picasso rebels against through the usage of primitive sources and morally
degenerate subject matter. The degeneracy of the prostitute s profession associated them with races
at the bottom of the established hierarchy. As a result of this association, Picasso depicts the
prostitutes with the anthropometrically assumed masculine body type of non western, and more
specifically, African and Oceanic people. Lomas provides examples of the preparatory sketches for
Demoiselles allowing the reader to see Picasso research and develop the prostitute s body

The Argument Of Emotions, Perception, And Moral Judgment

INTRO SENTENCE. In this essay, I will begin by explaining Robert Roberts core argument in
Emotions, perception, and moral judgment. Next I wi *** finish this Roberts argues that emotions
are concern based construals, which provide the perceptual basis for evaluative judgments and are
accompanied by affective coloring. Now, I will consider each component of this core focus
individually.
As you go about your daily life, you see situations, hear stories, and consume edible creations.
Each one of these experiences entails the opportunity for individual perception, as your perception
need not align fully with that of your arch nemesis, nor your closest peer. If you share a pizza with

The duck rabbit example portrays that perceptual states are not entirely sensory, because this
example provides a single sensory image, but can result in two distinctly different interpretive
outcomes. Roberts states: The main contrast between construals and other perceptual states is that
construals have their impression content by way of structure, the organization of the parts of
something complex into a whole, whereas sensory perceptual states have their impression content
by way of sensory impressions (Roberts 42).
This example demonstrates key features of construal: structural character and non sensory reliant
character. Through these features, a construal yields three potential epistemic goods: understanding,
acquaintance, and justification (Roberts 46).
We can place the framework of a construal with the notion of emotion. Emotions are formed due to
the structure of a situation and are not reliant strictly what is seen. Emotions are formed based upon

Why then, do we not have emotions about every single situation witnessed? If an emotion is a

Essay On Undocumented Immigrants
Amnesty for Undocumented Immigrants
Put yourself in the place of an undocumented immigrant or a family member. Would you then
advocate for amnesty? Amnesty, which is a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants,
has been a very controversial topic that has been debated since the foundation of the United States.
People argue against amnesty because according to their sources they take jobs from American
citizens. They are violating the law of the United States and they live of taxpayer dollars. Should
illegal immigrants be granted a pathway to citizenship? Yes, they should because illegal immigrants
will stimulate the economy, most illegal immigrants are otherwise law abiding and the amount of
illegal immigrants in the united states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a statement given by Judge Goodlatte titled Immigration Reform he opines that undocumented
immigrants should not be granted a pathway to citizenship because they have violated the
immigration laws of the United States and that those laws must be enforced. However, on a recent
report requested by ICE it is shown that between the dates of January and August 2015 about 1,800
undocumented immigrants that were released were rearrested. The immigrants however, faced
charges that were associated to non violent crimes. Also, a Wall Street Journal opinion piece done
by Jason L. Riley claims that about 1.6 percent of all immigrant males between 18 and 39 years old
were incarcerated, compared to 3.3 percent of the native born population . These studies suggest the
contrary to the point of Judge Goodlatte that undocumented immigrants should not be granted
amnesty because they have broken the immigration laws of the United States. Undocumented
immigrants are statistically shown to be more law abiding than native born citizens and although
some were charged with felonies, they were non violent and charges were ultimately dropped. Due
to this undocumented immigrants should be granted amnesty to remain in the united states legally
and keep benefiting our economy as well as our

a cell phone obsessed driver. About 540,000 cyclists in the U.S. visit the emergency room each
year, and of those, 67,000 have head injuries.

The Life Of Samuel Johnson
The Life of Samuel Johnson It was in London on 16 May 1763 when James Boswell first met Dr.
Samuel Johnson his future best friend and his main character of his book Life of Samuel Johnson

The United Kingdom And The People s Republic Of China...
September 26, 1984 the United Kingdom and the People s Republic of China release the Joint
Declaration, a document detailing the then future handover of the island of Hong Kong and its
surrounding territories from British colonial rule, to rule by the PRC. Exactly thirty years later,
hundreds of students rush over the security barricades of the central government building in Hong
Kongwith anger, tenacity, and fear in their eyes. Many are still youths, students from local
secondary schools exercising their disappointment of modern Hong Kong in the only way they
believe they can: protest, beginning a series of events now known as The Umbrella Movement.
Four days earlier, however, hundreds had begun gathering around that building, unhappy with the
current political system in place in Hong Kong, furious at the way the Beijing government of the
PRC seemed to be closing in and suppressing their social and political freedoms. Though the
protests were meant to be relatively peaceful demonstrations, the large collections of people
disrupted traffic and business throughout Hong Kong. Soon Hong Kong police forces were called
in to disperse the crowds, and when protesters refused to leave, the police resorted to the use of
pepper spray and tear gas, causing an uproar among witnesses. In response, to protect themselves
from the tear gas, protesters began carrying umbrellas to use as shields, thus the movement was
dubbed The Umbrella Movement. In the following months, the series

Roanoke Colony
The Roanoke island is located off the coast of present day North Carolina. There are many
questions about where the people went and what happened to them. One of the main clues as to
what happened was the word CROATOAN carved into the trunk of a tree. Some people think that
the colonists travelled inland, tried to join an Indian tribe or they traveled to an island called
Croatoan. The island was found by Sir Walter Raleighwho was sent by Queen Elizabeth. When the
crew came back with the good news, they began gathering groups of people willing to settle in the
new island called Roanoke. Researchers are always finding more details about where the colonists

The appearance of the dinosaur age animal in Japan bring different perspective view through

Critical Response to David Guterson s Snow Falling on Cedars
Critical Response to David Guterson s Snow Falling on Cedars
David Guterson s novel Snow Falling on Cedars undoubtedly holds high acclaim in its reputable
attempt to show the prejudice between the Americans and Japanese after World War II and more
importantly the prejudice that is unavoidably apart of human nature. The author of the criticism
recognizes and brings to light the things done by Guterson throughout the novel. He refers to the
animosity between people brought about by differences, the unwillingness to accept change, and
also states that things end in a moral and justified manner.
The author refers to old passions, prejudices, and grudges surfacing throughout the novel taking

He has not succumbed to the immoral prejudice toward Kabuo because of his origins that the rest
of the community so prevalently upholds. The courthouse as described thought imagery in the
novel is seen as protection from the actual storm taking place outside, but in actually goes much
deeper to represent protection from the storm that is brewing within the interracial community of
San Piedro. The resentment between the cultures has been sheltered and nurtured for so long, but
the courthouse can only protect it for so long before it gives way to the storm. The courthouse
represents the ideal society where equality exists but is being withered and worn by the storm
called prejudice. In reference to the relationship between Hatsue and Ishmael the author states
Kabuo s wife is the undying passion of Ishmael Chambers...he can t shake his obsession for Hatsue
any more than he can ignore the ghost pains in his nonexistent arm. Aside from the main conflict
of prejudice, the conflict between Ishmael and Hatsue s illegitimate relationship is one of the most
passion driven arguments in the book. Ishmael becomes so stuck on the fact that Hatsue is the
only person he will ever love; he loses sight with reality sometimes and remembers the day he was
cut out of Hatsues life just as vividly as the moment his arm was amputated. The magnitude of his
emotion towards her becomes ironic and shows his instability. When he becomes

Difference Between Organic And Inorganic Growth
To grow a company could choose between two ways: by organic or inorganic growth.
With an organic growth, as the words itself could state, the company grows in a spontaneous way:
by increasing its output and increasing its sales. This would happen in many ways, i.e. with an
increase of employee, with the development of a new product or the opening of a new factory in
different places. As an example, a food manufacturing company can open different factory across
the Europe to bring its product to a different country, and grow every year with the new revenue
generated by the new markets. Another way would be by creating a new product: since the
market may be saturated with the old ones, and sales may be fixed from a lot of time, a new
product could create curiosity and help sell more.
With an inorganic growth, a company has to expand itself by merging other companies. Inorganic
growth is much complex and difficult, but if performed in a professional and careful way, it could
result in a significant boost for all the players involved in the acquisition.
Inorganic growth can be split into two different categories: horizontal and vertical integration. With
a horizontal integration, who similar companies join their forces to create a better service for their
customers. For example, a food company like NetslГЁ bought San Pellegrino in 1997 to expand
their mineral water worldwide.
With a vertical integration, two companies that offer different products in the same production
process,

How Did Archduke Franz Ferdinand Cause Ww1
World War 1 was the introduction to a series of political, economical and social issues that
involved almost every major super power in the world. The assassination of Archduke Franz
Ferdinand in Sarajevo in 1914 was the primary source of struggle that triggered a series of events
which lead to World War 1. Many nations, such as Germany, Britain and France were already
armed and ready for a war before the assassination of Franz Ferdinand occurred due to political
unrest at the time between the two countries. People are killed every day and this does not start
world wars, however; Archduke Franz Ferdinand was a key Austria Hungarian figure and the
royal prince of Hungary and Bohemia. His power and representation of Austria and Hungary and
then his death by a Serbian assassin led to a series of events that eventually ignited World War 1.

International Trade Case Study
4.5 RESULTS The main results of damages associated with international trade are presented in
Table 4.1. For example, the first row shows that exported crop products generate approximately
$2,351 million damages (DEX), and create $14,754 million value added (VEX) to the US
economy. While, imported crop products correspond to $2,246 million damages (DIM) and
$11,020 million value added (VIM) that would otherwise be generated by the domestic
production. Net damages generated by trade of crop products is $106 million (О”D=106
million), which accounts for 2.83% (О”D/О”VA=2.83%) of net value added created by trade of
crop products (О”VA=3,734 million). That is, on average for each thousand dollar value added
generated by net exports of crop... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, as a source of external annual benefits to the US citizens, the accumulative values of
the benefits over years can be tremendous. Furthermore, this net environmental benefit accounts
for 2.7% of trade deficit in 2002 ($399 billion), and 3.4% of the net value added loss from trade
(see Table 4.1). The latter ratio indicates that on average for each thousand dollar of value added
loss associated to net imports, the actual loss is $34 lower, when air emission damages are taken
into account. Although damage to value added ratio is lower than 5% at the national level, in
some industries this ratio can be greater than 50%. For instance, in the Carbon Black
Manufacturing industry and All the Other Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing industry,
damage to value added ratios are 51% and 54%, respectively (see Table A4.11 in Appendix E).
This implies exports in these industries are so hazardous that more than half of its value added
gains would disappear due to environmental damages. In the sector level, large but less extreme
ratios are found (see Table 4.1), such as Animal Production sector (О”D/О”VA=26.72%), Forestry
and Logging sector (О”D/О”VA=23.48%), and Utilities sector (О”D/О”VA=28.95%). In those
sectors, about a quarter of value added gains (loss) are deteriorated (compensated) by environmental
damages (benefits). From Table 4.1, we find net environmental benefits (or costs)

I believe that one of the main reasons why this restaurant is so successful is the fact that people
who eat here enjoy the unique environment and want to come back. The design at all Cheesecake
Factories is very elegant and the architecture at each restaurant is more developed and fancy.
People often come back for more because, even though they know the prices are slightly higher
than at other restaurants, the meal sizes are bigger and of a better quality. The Cheesecake Factory
takes pride in being known for giving their customers large portions of food which is why many of
them take the leftovers back home with them all the time.
One of the strength is the common knowledge of cheesecakes. When people think of
Cheesecake Factory the number one thing that comes to their minds is the cheesecake. There are so
many different kinds of cheesecakes and with this amount of varieties to choose from, it definitely
is one of the most significant strengths that the Cheesecake Factory has. I believe that
The Cheesecake Factory should take an advantage of this strength and start selling all the kinds of
cheesecake they make to stores around the country. This will be a way to over come the weakness
of advertising. If they sell in stores, and even other places they will also be advertising at the same

Studies have proven that kelp can accelerate growth, increase flowering, and provide resistance to
disease ( Benefits of Kelp , n.d.). When comparing Figures 3 and 4, the SUPERthrive zinnias
appear to have healthier growth and are generally larger than the control group. Many of the
SUPERthrive zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because
kelp has been proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the
experimental zinnias had more success than the control.
The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the
benefits of SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main
auxin in higher plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development.
Auxin is able to stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli.
Another important aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin
deficiency. With SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there
should be some benefits from its use (Zhao, 2010). The increased growth seen in the
SUPERthrive zinnias may have been due to the additive of auxins in the product. Overall, it is
hard to draw conclusions based off the results of this experiment. While the SUPERthrive zinnias

The Role Of Cultural, Social, And Political Norms
Joyriding in Riyadh, by Pascal Menoret, examines the challenging of cultural, social, and political

My time at this university has come to an end. Today will be my last day. My father refuses to
assist me in paying back these debts debts caused by his lack of generosity! I was forced to
borrow money from merchants to pay for my schooling! I was left with no other choice but to
gamble in order to pay it back! I had no other means to pay it back. He refuses to help me pay
back this debt because I had gambled, but it was he who caused me to go such great lengths! He
will not allow me to continue studying here. I will return to Richmond, what I will be doing there, I
do not know.

Virginia busts a blood vessel and begins to cough up blood January 15, 1842
My poor Virginia, oh my poor Virginia. We were having the most joyous time today. Singing and
playing the piano, when she began to cough. Her beautiful voice was abruptly broken into a
startling cough. She began to expectorate blood. I was aghast! I was terrified! I immediately
took Virginia to the nearest doctor in order to get her checked. She had busted a blood vessel! I
was filled with trepidation when I heard the diagnosis. I am fearful of the things to come. There is
nothing I can do now but wait and hope my dear Virginia recovers.

Blackberry was the first one to introduce the email services in the handset, making
communication extremely easy for all its customers and it became very popular amongst the
corporate executives, as now accessing work (emails) was just a click away. With this
innovation blackberry found its market mainly amongst the corporate users. They came up with
various corporate plans and were extremely successful. The world became a small place with
wireless connections. (Gustin, 2013). Till the year 2007 BlackBerry was the most successful
company in the cell phone market and it was known for the innovative products and services. In
the year 2007, BlackBerry was announced as the most valuable company in Canada with worth
of more than 67 Billion and in the same period there were 10 million subscribers registered to the
services as well as new Blackberry devices. There were several reasons that caused the downfall
of BlackBerry. The first reason was lack of vision and strategy whereas the other cause was
managerial decision making. The company s business was affected a lot due to introduction of
IPhone in the market and business started to decline at a rapid pace. The innovative practices of
IPhone took BlackBerry from profits to losses. The other groundbreaking moment for BlackBerry
was in 2008 when Google launch its Play Store that became a backbone for the android mobile
phone users. Google s innovation attracted many mobile phone users and it decreased the attention

Analyzing Wallace s Theory Of Natural Selection
Wallace and his line
Charles Darwin has credit with the theory of natural selection in the history books, however there
was another person Alfred Russell Wallace who came to the same conclusion. He was of plebian
descent and had no reservations about going against the doctrines of the Church of England. He,
like Darwin, had similar questions about species variation, diversity, and fitness; he decided to seek
out the answers in his travels. Wallace s theory of evolution came from his experiences and
observations in the unexplored islands of the Malay Archipelago specifically Borneo, Bali,
Lombok, and New Guinea and Australia. Although Wallace s journey began in Singapore, Borneo
became the stepladder to defining his first law. He combines geology and natural history to
hypothesize that species connect in space and time to a closely allied predecessor. Further
explaining that these connections are dendritic with extant species outermost and with extinct
closely allied species innermost. Whenever branching occurs, new species form from the common
branch or closely allied species. He simply argues that if the earth chang es, why species wouldn t
do the same. Wallace replies that islands, including Darwin s account of the... Show more content

This limited resource extended his travel itinerary and he chose to head to Bali where the
processes of biogeography were active. Bali s fauna were of similar variety to the previous
islands, and this wasn t surprising. What startled Wallace was Lombok s wildlife! Lombok is
located about 32 kilometers east of Bali, has identical geologic and environmental conditions,
however the species are completely different. He considers why birds can t just fly across the sea.
Traveling further east, his findings were all species similar to Lombok and not Bali. He states that
there is a boundary act ing between these islands, but is uncertain

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Addicting; exhilarating; thrilling; heartbreaking. These are just a few of the words used to
describe the young adult dystopian novel Divergent that hit the shelves in 2011, and the sliver
screen on March 18th, 2014. For anyone who has seen the film, and read the book, the similarities,
and differences, between the book and movie are apparent.
In Beatrice Prior s dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to a
particular virtue Candor, the honest, Abnegation, the selfless, Dauntless, the brave, Amity, the
peaceful, and Erudite, the intelligent. Once every year, all sixteen year olds must select the faction
to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision she makes surprises
everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows the choosing ceremony, Beatrice renames
herself Tris and struggles to figure out who are really her friends and where a fling with her
older instructor fits into the life she s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she s kept hidden
from everyone because she s been warned it can mean a certain death. And as she discovers a
growing conflict that threatens to unravel the seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her
secret might help her save those she loves, or it might destroy her.
To begin, the aptitude test was fairly similar. For example, both the dog, and the choice between
different objects, and the little girl, as was in the book, was

Women In Slavery in Harriet Jacob s Incidents in the life...
The notion of slavery, as unpleasant as it is, must nonetheless be examined to understand the
hardships that were caused in the lives of enslaved African Americans. Without a doubt,
conditions that the slaves lived under could be easily described as intolerable and inhumane. As
painful as the slave s treatment by the masters was, it proved to be more unbearable for the
women who were enslaved. Why did the women suffer a grimmer fate as slaves? The answer
lies in the readings, Harriet Jacob s Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl and Olaudah Equiano s
Interesting Narrative which both imply that sexual abuse, jealous mistresses , and loss of children
caused the female slaves to endure a more dreadful and hard life in captivity.... Show more content

Because of such gruesome occurrences as the sexual attacks, it would certainly be safe to
assume that the young slave girls were not only physically hurt but also emotionally distraught.
They were prone to grow into young women who felt stripped of their dignity and carried the
burden of shame. Not only did young women get sexually abused at a young age, but also the
abuse continued on as they matured. As the slaves got older they were forced to engage in sexual
affairs with their married masters, as is seen in the case of Harriet Jacobs. This naturally caused the
slaves to feel shameful, immoral, and wrongful in doing so. However, they did not have much of a
choice in the matter. To make matters worse, the mistresses who were jealous that their husbands,
the masters, were being unfaithful to them with the slaves. This commonly resulted in persecution
of the slaves by the mistresses. Although the mistresses knew that the masters were committing
wrongful acts in sexually abusing the slaves, they did not show any compassion. Instead, they
were enraged. Harriet Jacobs explains the typical reaction of a mistress as she writes: The mistress,
who ought to protect the helpless victim, has no other feelings towards her but those of jealousy
and rage .

Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy s Committee
Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy s committee (1954) In addition to limiting
freedom of speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued
on a witch hunt to remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting
individuals based on circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red
Scare, followed World War II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of
much paranoia. One of the many cases during this period that showed how little evidence was
used against individuals to incriminate them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a
F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a card carrying, dues paying member of the Communist party and
was brought to testify before McCarthy s committee, for she was alleged to have examined and
correct secret, encoded oversee messages. (The McCarthy Years) As they began to question
Moss, it became clear that the evidence against her was only circumstantial. For starters, the
F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person, but just knew her name appeared in records kept
by the communist party. This was clearly not enough to convict someone of being a spy,
especially since it was later said in testimony that three others name Annie Lee Moss in the area.
Second of all, she was said to have connections with a white man by the name of Rob Halls, who
was a well known Communist, but the Rob Halls Moss knew was a colored man. This once again
poked another

African Culture in the Play, Death and the King s Horseman
Death and the King s Horseman is an interesting play because it brings forward the culture of the
Africans, specifically the Yoruba tribe, to the attention of the reader that most probably come from
a different background. There are many ways to read this play for example, it may appears
uneventful to some reader who only reads the play literally as an entertainment but if the reader
looks at this play as some cultural study then the theme of understanding will surely be obvious and
the reading will be a tougher task as there are many things that must be taken into consideration
such as the clash of cultures (Soyinka 3) and threnodic essence (Soyinka 3), which is the main
theme of the play. Cultural tension between the Western cultureand the Yoruba s culture can be felt
throughout the play because the writer always draws the attention of the reader to understand
another s culture (Yoruba s culture) from a perspective of a different culture (Western culture
) in the
play. The struggle between the Westerners and the Africans to understand each other can be seen
from the beginning to the end of the play. Regardless of Soyinka s claim in the Author s Note
against the reader who would read the Death and the King s Horseman as clash of cultures , which
consequently makes them ignorant to the threnodic essence that discusses about the idea of death
in the Yoruba s culture which is the main theme that Soyinka wants to bring forward to the reader,
the reader must not ignore

  • 2. Using Auras ( Multimedia Overlays Created By The Aurasma Introduction A kindergarten teacher desired to create an augmented reality experience to enhance her students ability to learn sight words from her word wall. Augmented reality was defined as an environment that includes both virtual reality and real world elements by Azuma (1997). This paper evaluated the value of using auras (multimedia overlays created by the Aurasma (2011) software to create the augmented reality over the real classroom environment, specifically the word wall. Instructional Setting, Audience, and Content Area Instructional Setting The setting was a public school classroom with 21 kindergarten students. The instruction took place in small groups, with the students rotating through various centers around the classroom.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The teacher had to help all the other centers and tend to individual student needs simultaneously. This meant the students had to be intermittently self directed and focused to accomplish the tasks at each center. Audience The target audience was the kindergarten students, ages five to six years old. They come from a range of socio economic backgrounds. The school overall had about 40% of their students participating in the free/reduced lunch program. There were seven students who self identified as being of color (Hispanic, African American and others). There were six students with various learning challenges and IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). There were four students who started the year with minimal to non existent English speaking skills. Content Area In alignment with state requirements, students are expected to be able to write certain words before the end of the school year. In support of this, the teacher had a writing center. Frequently the assignment would have students copying some text from a template, but they were also expected to decode words they did not know. Additionally they were to use the word wall to find and copy sight words. The teacher has songs and visual reminders for how to spell the challenging words, but these cannot be put on the word wall. Moral Values of Silas Marner and Godfrey Cass Essay Justice is the quality of being just as well as complying with the principle of righteousness and also performing one s moral obligations (Oxford Dictionary). Moral values are important in Silas Marner throughout the novel as those people who do good deeds are rewarded while those who fail in their moral duties to others are punished. As George Eliotwas a religious person, she believed in fate and providence as there was a higher being rewarding and punishing our conduct. Silas Marner is the main protagonist in the book, although the reader is not given a good impression at the start of the novel. He is full of greed and his only joy and pleasure is seeing his precious gold. This can be backed up by the quote Silas lived in solitude, his guineas rising in the iron pot (Chapter 2 page 19). His reaction when his gold is stolen is that of disbelief. It is as if one of his family members has died. The quotes His heart leapt violently and His trembling hand prove this. This incident is very ironic as people had accused him of stealing money but now the tide had turned and now it was his money which had been stolen. The consequence of the stolen money means that Silas opens up to the whole of the community. He starts to become good friends with Dolly Winthrop, the wheelwright s wife. Chapter 12 sees the turning point of Silas life. The readers are also introduced to Molly Farren, Godfrey Cass wife. Molly is addicted to opium and this leads to her dying and, perhaps by coincidence, her baby arrives at Silas door. At first, he thinks his gold has arrived but this gift is more important than his gold according to him. Silas instantly becomes a better person when the child arrives at his door. The goal of the BCG matrix was to allow fellow marketers to easily analyze a product, whether it be old, or new, as to how effective it was in that particular market and if the product was successful in its overall product growth and market share. When it comes to selling a product, a company must overcome competitors in the same market who are looking to take a piece of the share of consumers. Therefore, in order to be successful, the use of a model such as the BCG allows a marketer to assess their competitive advantages as well as the ability to calculate the relative market share. For example, once you have products that have hit the market and have already established themselves, you can check back and cross examine those products to see which ones are important to your success as an organization and which ones you should contemplate scaling back on because these products may be viewed as questionable. According to NetMBA the BCG matrix contains four key components; the stars, the cash cows, dogs, and question marks. The stars of the matrix are the go getters. This part of the mix contains your products that continuously show an increase in growth industry within the market and a high market share. The interactions of between different groups of people are characterized by the unique qualities the members of those groups identify with. Furthermore, he states there is no evidence to suggest that the same individual spirit may not be united to different bodies. I find this interesting because this broad assertion depicts a sense of unity of one soul with all of mankind, throughout time. However, instead of reincarnation as plants or animals, Locke excludes non human bodies. If this were true, then who is to say our souls are not tied to all times in history, and therefore all people in history. It reminds me of The Grapes of Wrath, where the unity of mankind versus religion is holy. His assertion suggests to me an element of creating an on earth as it is in heaven scenario where unity is correlated with peace. In addition, if one were to experience all souls in all time, would this not make one God? Locke himself does not suggest this, and my understanding of what he is trying to convey may be mistaken. • 16. The Theory X And Theory Y Essay The ability to predict the behavior of employees in an organization is a key element in encouraging and ensuring that employees to produce desired results. Some employees usually take great pride in their work and obtain satisfaction from performing their duties well. Such employees are innately motivated (Douglas McGregor: Theory X and Theory Y, 2015). Other employees are never proud of their work. They simply work because they believe that they cannot survive without their jobs. Such employees are externally motivated (they require an outside force to compel them to perform their duties) (Theory X and Theory Y: Understanding Team Member Motivation, 2016). These ideas about employee behavior and much more have been developed by social psychologist and managementprofessionals, such as Douglas Mc Gregor, Abraham Maslow, and Herzberg, in the form of theories to help managers and employees predict each other s behavior. This paper focuses on the Theory X and Theory Y, which were both developed by Douglas McGregor. It describes the theories and analyzes their effectiveness in predicting human behavior. Lomas provides a background on the common anthropological beliefs of the day with a focus on anthropometry, which gave scientific backing to the racial, cultural and sexual hierarchy; a hierarchy that Picasso rebels against through the usage of primitive sources and morally degenerate subject matter. The degeneracy of the prostitute s profession associated them with races at the bottom of the established hierarchy. The duck rabbit example portrays that perceptual states are not entirely sensory, because this example provides a single sensory image, but can result in two distinctly different interpretive outcomes. Roberts states: The main contrast between construals and other perceptual states is that construals have their impression content by way of structure, the organization of the parts of something complex into a whole, whereas sensory perceptual states have their impression content by way of sensory impressions (Roberts 42). This example demonstrates key features of construal: structural character and non sensory reliant character. Through these features, a construal yields three potential epistemic goods: understanding, acquaintance, and justification (Roberts 46). We can place the framework of a construal with the notion of emotion. Emotions are formed due to the structure of a situation and are not reliant strictly what is seen. Emotions are formed based upon how an individual internalizes the situation, thus permitting variation in interpretation. Why then, do we not have emotions about every single situation witnessed? If an emotion is a mere construal, why do I not experience an emotion when I see a cross walk sign change from stop to safe to cross ? September 26, 1984 the United Kingdom and the People s Republic of China release the Joint Declaration, a document detailing the then future handover of the island of Hong Kong and its surrounding territories from British colonial rule, to rule by the PRC. Exactly thirty years later, hundreds of students rush over the security barricades of the central government building in Hong Kongwith anger, tenacity, and fear in their eyes. Many are still youths, students from local secondary schools exercising their disappointment of modern Hong Kong in the only way they believe they can: protest, beginning a series of events now known as The Umbrella Movement. Four days earlier, however, hundreds had begun gathering around that building, unhappy with the current political system in place in Hong Kong, furious at the way the Beijing government of the PRC seemed to be closing in and suppressing their social and political freedoms. Though the protests were meant to be relatively peaceful demonstrations, the large collections of people disrupted traffic and business throughout Hong Kong. Soon Hong Kong police forces were called in to disperse the crowds, and when protesters refused to leave, the police resorted to the use of pepper spray and tear gas, causing an uproar among witnesses. In response, to protect themselves from the tear gas, protesters began carrying umbrellas to use as shields, thus the movement was dubbed The Umbrella Movement. • 33. Difference Between Organic And Inorganic Growth To grow a company could choose between two ways: by organic or inorganic growth. With an organic growth, as the words itself could state, the company grows in a spontaneous way: by increasing its output and increasing its sales. This would happen in many ways, i.e. with an increase of employee, with the development of a new product or the opening of a new factory in different places. As an example, a food manufacturing company can open different factory across the Europe to bring its product to a different country, and grow every year with the new revenue generated by the new markets. Another way would be by creating a new product: since the market may be saturated with the old ones, and sales may be fixed from a lot of time, a new product could create curiosity and help sell more. With an inorganic growth, a company has to expand itself by merging other companies. Inorganic growth is much complex and difficult, but if performed in a professional and careful way, it could result in a significant boost for all the players involved in the acquisition. Inorganic growth can be split into two different categories: horizontal and vertical integration. With a horizontal integration, who similar companies join their forces to create a better service for their customers. For example, a food company like NetslГЁ bought San Pellegrino in 1997 to expand their mineral water worldwide. With a vertical integration, two companies that offer different products in the same production process, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While, imported crop products correspond to $2,246 million damages (DIM) and $11,020 million value added (VIM) that would otherwise be generated by the domestic production. Furthermore, this net environmental benefit accounts for 2.7% of trade deficit in 2002 ($399 billion), and 3.4% of the net value added loss from trade (see Table 4.1). The latter ratio indicates that on average for each thousand dollar of value added loss associated to net imports, the actual loss is $34 lower, when air emission damages are taken into account. Although damage to value added ratio is lower than 5% at the national level, in some industries this ratio can be greater than 50%. For instance, in the Carbon Black Manufacturing industry and All the Other Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing industry, damage to value added ratios are 51% and 54%, respectively (see Table A4.11 in Appendix E). This implies exports in these industries are so hazardous that more than half of its value added gains would disappear due to environmental damages. Many of the SUPERthrive zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because kelp has been proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the experimental zinnias had more success than the control. The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the benefits of SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main auxin in higher plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development. Auxin is able to stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli. Another important aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin deficiency. With SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there should be some benefits from its use (Zhao, 2010). • 44. Analyzing Wallace s Theory Of Natural Selection Wallace and his line Charles Darwin has credit with the theory of natural selection in the history books, however there was another person Alfred Russell Wallace who came to the same conclusion. He was of plebian descent and had no reservations about going against the doctrines of the Church of England. He, like Darwin, had similar questions about species variation, diversity, and fitness; he decided to seek out the answers in his travels. Wallace s theory of evolution came from his experiences and observations in the unexplored islands of the Malay Archipelago specifically Borneo, Bali, Lombok, and New Guinea and Australia. Although Wallace s journey began in Singapore, Borneo became the stepladder to defining his first law. He combines geology and natural history to hypothesize that species connect in space and time to a closely allied predecessor. Further explaining that these connections are dendritic with extant species outermost and with extinct closely allied species innermost. Whenever branching occurs, new species form from the common branch or closely allied species. He simply argues that if the earth chang es, why species wouldn t do the same. Wallace replies that islands, including Darwin s account of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He considers why birds can t just fly across the sea. Traveling further east, his findings were all species similar to Lombok and not Bali. • 46. Women In Slavery in Harriet Jacob s Incidents in the life... The notion of slavery, as unpleasant as it is, must nonetheless be examined to understand the hardships that were caused in the lives of enslaved African Americans. Without a doubt, conditions that the slaves lived under could be easily described as intolerable and inhumane. As painful as the slave s treatment by the masters was, it proved to be more unbearable for the women who were enslaved. Why did the women suffer a grimmer fate as slaves? The answer lies in the readings, Harriet Jacob s Incidents in the life of a Slave Girl and Olaudah Equiano s Interesting Narrative which both imply that sexual abuse, jealous mistresses , and loss of children caused the female slaves to endure a more dreadful and hard life in captivity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of such gruesome occurrences as the sexual attacks, it would certainly be safe to assume that the young slave girls were not only physically hurt but also emotionally distraught. They were prone to grow into young women who felt stripped of their dignity and carried the burden of shame. Not only did young women get sexually abused at a young age, but also the abuse continued on as they matured. As the slaves got older they were forced to engage in sexual affairs with their married masters, as is seen in the case of Harriet Jacobs. This naturally caused the slaves to feel shameful, immoral, and wrongful in doing so. However, they did not have much of a choice in the matter. To make matters worse, the mistresses who were jealous that their husbands, the masters, were being unfaithful to them with the slaves. This commonly resulted in persecution of the slaves by the mistresses. Although the mistresses knew that the masters were committing wrongful acts in sexually abusing the slaves, they did not show any compassion. Instead, they were enraged. Harriet Jacobs explains the typical reaction of a mistress as she writes: The mistress, who ought to protect the helpless victim, has no other feelings towards her but those of jealousy and rage . ... • 47. Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy s Committee Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy s committee (1954) In addition to limiting freedom of speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued on a witch hunt to remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting individuals based on circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red Scare, followed World War II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of much paranoia. One of the many cases during this period that showed how little evidence was used against individuals to incriminate them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a card carrying, dues paying member of the Communist party and was brought to testify before McCarthy s committee, for she was alleged to have examined and correct secret, encoded oversee messages. (The McCarthy Years) As they began to question Moss, it became clear that the evidence against her was only circumstantial. For starters, the F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person, but just knew her name appeared in records kept by the communist party. This was clearly not enough to convict someone of being a spy, especially since it was later said in testimony that three others name Annie Lee Moss in the area. Second of all, she was said to have connections with a white man by the name of Rob Halls, who was a well known Communist, but the Rob Halls Moss knew was a colored man. This once again poked another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. African Culture in the Play, Death and the King s Horseman Death and the King s Horseman is an interesting play because it brings forward the culture of the Africans, specifically the Yoruba tribe, to the attention of the reader that most probably come from a different background. There are many ways to read this play for example, it may appears uneventful to some reader who only reads the play literally as an entertainment but if the reader looks at this play as some cultural study then the theme of understanding will surely be obvious and the reading will be a tougher task as there are many things that must be taken into consideration such as the clash of cultures (Soyinka 3) and threnodic essence (Soyinka 3), which is the main theme of the play. Cultural tension between the Western cultureand the Yoruba s culture can be felt throughout the play because the writer always draws the attention of the reader to understand another s culture (Yoruba s culture) from a perspective of a different culture (Western culture ) in the play. The struggle between the Westerners and the Africans to understand each other can be seen from the beginning to the end of the play. Regardless of Soyinka s claim in the Author s Note against the reader who would read the Death and the King s Horseman as clash of cultures , which consequently makes them ignorant to the threnodic essence that discusses about the idea of death in the Yoruba s culture which is the main theme that Soyinka wants to bring forward to the reader, the reader must not ignore ...
