Spanish Myths, And Legends
The Lady in Blue The Lady in Blue is a popular Spanish legend in the Southwest and particularly
New Mexico. The legend of the lady started with New Mexico Indians in the 17th century and
remains popular today.
The Lady in Blue was in fact a real person Maria de Jesus de Agreda, or Sor Maria, as she was called.
Sor Maria founded the Convent of the Immaculate Conception at Agreda.
Sor Maria had a very strong reputation throughout Spain for her wisdom and sanctity, as well as her
mystical and religious writings.
After July 1643, Sor Maria became widely known for a more important reason. It was during this
month, on the way to Aragon, that King Phillip IV stopped at Sor Maria s convent. Following the visit,
the two exchanged letters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sailors declined. Another tale, from Antonio Galvao, also confirmed the presence of the island and
its Portuguese inhabitants, who were curious about how the homefolks were doing against the Moors.
Stories such as these prompted men like Columbus and, later, Coronado, to seek out the elusive Seven
Cities of Antilia, regardless of the cost in time, men, and finances. They were sure the island was out
there, lurking somewhere in the misty folds of the Atlantic.
The legend was so ingrained in European society that most believed Columbus had found Antilia
when he landed in the West Indies (the island group soon took the name, Antilles). John Cabot, when
he landed in New England in 1497, named the area the Seven Cities .

The Great Commission Analysis
From the genesis of creation, God s mission is to motivate his creation (people) to work with the
resources he provides to bring forth new and good things and establish an order to a chaotic and
broken world. In fact, the world that God created is good, and when humans begin to work alongside
God in creation, things become very good (Genesis 1:31). Unfortunately, because of the fall of
humanity, God s creation strays away and falls short of God s original intent. As a result, the human
condition swings on a pendulum from good too bad while God s continues to reconcile humanity. God
first chose the nation of Israel, then sent Jesus and Jesus subsequent death and resurrection to continue
God s reconciliation in the world today. Additionally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In each of these occurrences of the Greek word pas, there s some kind of categorical limitation.
However, my understanding as it relates to the great commission is all means all and I approach God s
mission with this understanding. I join God s mission with the lens seeing that every creature needs
hear the good news of Jesus saving work in the world. The importance of the word all should must be
accentuated in joining God in God s mission. My understanding is sculpted in my personal testimony.
Five generations before me, my family was brought to America as slaves. They labored in fields and
experienced less than human treatment and one can only imagine how hardened one s heart must have
been in light of the atrocities that brought them to America. My great great great grandfather Hope
Quick was one of those slaves on a plantation in Bennettsville, South Carolina. One night after
working in the fields, someone invited him a camp meeting where slaves were allowed to meet to hear
the gospel. In spite of his station as a slave, Bishop Francis Asbury preached that Jesus died so that all
might be saved. In that moment, he begin to cry and even though he was a slave he accepted the
gospel message and became a Christian; a follower of the way. It is through that missionary who
joined God in God s mission that the Quick family and future generations came to know Christ. This
experience profoundly shaped my understanding that all means all. My missiology is immersed in this
concept because scripture clearly says all. There are no limitations to God s saving grace and that
grace is for

Leaving New York City for the Farmlands of Illinois Essay
| Case: Leaving New York City for the Farmlands of Illinois There are a lot of things to consider
before making a career changes, especially one as big as uprooting yourself from the business world in
a major city to moving to rural farmland, learning a new trade from the bottom up. It is crucial to
research your options before making any decisions. The advice from your colleagues in the text does
bring up some really good points. If the article in The Wall Street Journal holds to be true, now would
be an excellent time to get into the farming business producing corn crops if there is going to be an
increased demand for corn to produce corn based ethanol as a gasoline substitute. If there will be an
increase in the demand for corn, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming that the 80 acres of farmland do not come with all of the equipment needed to grow and
harvest corn crops, there will be an additional investment beyond the $80,000 for the land in terms of
both time and money. If you do not have the additional funds to not only purchase the materials and
hire the manpower to get the farm up and running, but also the funds to sustain your likelihood while
waiting for the crops to turn a profit, you would find yourself in quite the predicament. There are
alternatives to obtaining these additional resources, such as taking out business loans or finding a
business partner, but these added expenses may in turn cause additional stress in your life, defeating
the purpose of moving to Illinois seeking refuge in a more peaceful environment. I also believe it is
important to research the corn crops and corn based ethanol a little bit more before jumping into a
decision like this. According to the 2014 Illinois Crop Budgets corn crops have lower returns than
received in recent years, suggesting that incomes will be down for corn farmers in comparison to
previous years (Schnitkey, 2013). Even with the increased demand for ethanol, knowing that projected
incomes are potentially in decline is something one should not take lightly before making such a
drastic career

The Revolution Of The 19th Century
As the United States entered the 19th century, a new era of development and evolution in its economy,
population, and technology was ushered into American society. America s economic and industrial
power grew as a result of the industrial revolution of the 1800 s. At this time, organizations known as
political machines saw an opportunity and capitalized on the fears and desires of individuals who
wanted to achieve the American dream but could not necessarily find the means to achieve those
goals. These political machines took control over urban areas because they promised wealth and
prosperity to those who were looking for it. For impoverished immigrants that were searching for any
means to survive, these incentives created a false sense of hope for those who believed that political
machines truly had their best interest at heart. Essentially, political machines were just another chance
for someone to make money off of another person by taking advantage of their unfortunate
circumstances and voting rights in order to control the politics of their cities.
America was growing rapidly, but this came at a great cost. The late 19th century was coined by Mark
Twain as the Gilded Age because everything in the United States seemed to be flourishing, the
industrial age had created an illusion of prosperity due to underlying issues such as: poverty, crime,
corruption, and over crowding due to a large influx of immigrants from Europe. At this time, there

The Constraints Of Constraint Management
A constraint is anything that limits a system from achieving higher performance relative to its goal.
Constraint management seeks to help managers at all levels of an organization. It ensures that they
maintain proper focus on the factors that are most critical to overall success of system constraints.
Constraint Management efforts can immediately resolve extremely negative effects from machine,
labor, and process inefficiencies, and have the ability to fund an entire transition to lean through
substantial increases in throughput.
There are three rules to constraint management. They are identifying system constraints, exploiting the
constraint, and improving the constraint gaps. A business owner or supervisor using the constraint
model of management can t focus employees on system constraints without first identifying those
constraints. Naming the constraints that are integral to a company s success, including company work
policies and manufacturing standards, sets up clear expectations for employees regarding performance
and productivity. Exploiting the constraint is the process by which a company maximizes profit
through use of a given system constraint. Tying the completion of project steps by nonconstrained
resources to completion by constrained resources improves operational efficiency and closes gaps in
schedules. (Lister, 2016).
On a daily basis, a company s constraint is the major regulating factor that decreases the amount of
material or items passing

Unreasonable Foolishness In The Gift Of Magi
Many people would consider the story, The Gift of Magi , an act of foolishness, but there is more to
the tale than unreasonable foolishness. The sacrifices the main characters, Jim and Della Dillingham
Young, made for each other were what many people would call an act of true love and generosity.
They had no money for Christmas, although they did have something of substance to trade. Della had
her long, beautiful hair and Jim had his pocket watch. They sacrificed for each other the greatest
treasures of their house (161). Jim and Della gave all they had for each other. According to O. Henry,
they could be considered Magi. The Dillingham Young s did not stop to consider how they would be
affected. They thought of each other s happiness before their own. Instead, they sell their greatest
treasures to buy the other a gift for Christmas. The story of The Gift of the Magi shows the underlying
meaning to be truly wealthy and to sacrifice everything for it. Wealth is more than money to countless
people. Love and happiness is the key to wealth. Jim and Della may not have money but they are
indeed wealthy. Love is more important than any possession or gift anyone can contain. O. Henry
illustrated that within The Gift of the Magi . He showed that love and happiness is the true wealth of
life by using literary elements like symbolism, the type of narrator, and irony.
In the beginning, the story tells about how Della does not have any money to purchase a gift for her

Special Education Assignment
Working with students with special needs, as teachers, we need to protect our students right. Special
education teachers are required to keep high standards and meet best practices. According to the
Preliminary Credential Competency Checklist Historical and Legal Foundation 1.4 (2014), two of the
best practices that are enforced in the special education field is to individualize education and
evidence based practice (p.1). Being a teacher in a special education classroom, there is a diverse level
of learners and each student has an individual methods of learning. The role of the teacher is to verify
each students learning is being meet. Individualizing a lesson by making accommodiations or
modification for them to learn the curriculum. Implementing evidence based practice is using an
educational method of learning that will support the students learning based on previous research that
has been completed. Using evidence based practice in a special education classroom is a key
component when a student or students need an intervention to support them in the academic area they
are struggling. Special education teachers are responsible of meeting best practice standards to ***

Quick Change Methodology For Making A Manufacturing...
Quick Change Methodology Report
Jacob Lambrecht
12/14/16
Process I
Today I will be talking about the research I did on quick change methodology. This is a very
fascinating and important topic for the machining process in all plants across the world. The topics
that will be covered in this paper are as follows defining quick change methodology and tooling for
machining with an overview history and recent advancements, SMED overview history and recent
advancements, then a compare and contrast of quick change methodology and SMED, and to wrap up
the paper I will illustrate how I can use this information to improve a manufacturing process I am
familiar with. These were great research topics and I learned a ton of great valuable information that
would be very useful in future endeavors.
First I will talk about defining quick change methodology and tooling for machining with an overview
history and recent advancements. It is a modular system that allows tools to be changed rapidly on a
machine during the initial part setup and the tool change after a tool is worn out. The system radically
decreases machine downtime for tool change for the duration of setup changes. It is also for changing
worn out inserts during machining. Normally a tool is fastened by putting it into a slot in the turret and
tightening screws to hold it resolutely. With doing this older process of fastening the tool, extreme
care must be taken to seat the holder correctly against existing

Before presenting the case study of students who have been involved with the RoboCup Junior, in the
Hunter region, we will highlight the growing success in a snapshot of the past four years and
indicators for the current year of RoboCup Junior in the Hunter Region, as seen in Table 1.
Over the past four years, there has been a general increase in the number of students, teams, and
schools (with the exception of 2015), with a total of 698 (139 Females participants (2012=43,
2013=18, 2014=46, 2015=32)) student participants, with students as young as 10 years of age in their
4th school year participating in the Hunter Region RoboCup Junior competition. Additionally, as the
initiative matured, we saw an increase in spatial coverage of the schools participating in the
competition; Table 1: Geographical Representation of Participating Schools, which included schools
from the Central coast, and as far north as Camden Haven, and even some elite schools from the
Sydney Region attending the tournament, in 2014.
For this year, in 2016, the event will be held in mid August, and has not been held at the time of
submission of this publication, but indications from our registration database have shown a sharp
increase in the number of participants. The following numbers are set to increase, as the registration
database is still accepting new participants to the tournament. Currently, the numbers stand at over 340
students, with over 100 teams from 27 different schools participating from

Egg Freezing After a Cancer Diagnosis
A diagnosis of cancer inspired Victoria to look into egg freezing
Victoria came to Fertility Answers for egg freezing after she was diagnosed with nodular lymphocyte
predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, a rare and slow growing type of Hodgkin lymphoma. As part of her
cancer treatment, she was prescribed Rituxan. Since it s unknown whether the drug can cause fertility
problems, her oncologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center recommended that she visit a fertility
specialist to find out about egg freezing.

At her first appointment, Victoria met Dr. Storment with her boyfriend and her mother. Speaking with
Dr. Storment about egg freezing immediately put her at ease. According to Victoria, He is so
wonderful. He took the time to answer my millions of questions, and it feels like I ve known him for a
long time.
The consultation with Dr. Storment convinced Victoria that egg freezing was the right move for her,
and she is beginning the process now. After I found out I have cancer, I felt as if I wasn t in control of
my life. Choosing to freeze my eggs made me feel empowered and in charge of my future. I also knew
I d regret it if I didn t do it, said Victoria.
Victoria won t let cancer stop her from becoming a mother
I didn t have much control over the cancer, but I had control over the decision to freeze my eggs
before beginning treatment in hopes of having children one day, said Victoria. She recommends that
other women in her position also consider egg freezing. You can t tell the future, but it s important to

My Experience At Bmw s Playground Essay
This summer we had the chance to spend some time in Europe. One of our stopping points was
Munich. Needless to say we relished in the opportunity to play in BMW s playground. As you will
read below, we are massive car enthusiasts, so you can imagine our excitement in visiting BMW s
heartland! We were like kids in a candy shop ogling and drooling at the new toys, new cars, and the
latest and greatest.
For those that don t know, let me give you a brief history lesson on both myself and Chris. I have
ALWAYS had a passion for cars. There is just something so sexy about cars, the lines, the power, the
way they make you feel...if you are a car person, you know what I mean and how I am feeling even
typing this. Let s put it this way, when my family went to buy a car, they took me, the little cute little
blonde versus one of my 3 brothers. I knew more about the cars than the sales person. Chris has been
around the car world his entire life. His father had a dealership, and Chris followed suit. He worked at
a Ford dealership; then shortly was recruited to run a Cadillac store. From there, he was once again
pursued open and own his own Infiniti dealership. Pretty much, we love nice luxurious cars!
As I stated in our very 1st meeting, I NEVER want anyone to be that person that is simply nodding
along and having absolutely no idea what is going on and all kinds of confused, I want to start with the
basics of BMW and then dive into why they are so successful. I think we all can

A Brief Note On The Battle Of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam started the morning of September 17, 1862 at 0600. Union troops of the First
and Twelfth Corps made their way across Antietam Creek the day before in efforts to attack the left
flank. From 0600 to 1000, the Union troops were with Confederates under Major General Thomas
Stonewall Jackson. This engagement occurred in a 24 acre cornfield. These were the most deadly
hours of the battle; over 8,000 casualties were killed at this time. As Union General Joseph Hooker
later wrote, It was never my fortune to witness a bloody, dismal battlefield in that nature. In the first
hour of the battle in the Cornfield, the slaughter was so intense that one man fell, was killed or
wounded every second. By 10 am, Union troops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1 pm, Federal forces had taken the road, breaching a hole in the Confederate lines. However,
because of fatigue and serious casualties, these Union troops were not able to proceed any further. By
the early afternoon hours of September 17, about 17,000 Union and Confederate soldiers had fallen as
casualties at Antietam.
Midday page: 5
The battle moved south into a section of the line known as the Sunken Road because of a major terrain
feature. At about mid morning the fight was expected to take place from 9:30 AM and last until 1:00
PM. The Confederates in the middle of the battlefield, led by General D.H. Hill, were in a sunken road
that they were told to hold at any price. Colonel John B. Gordon said to General Lee these men are
going to stay here, general, till the sun goes down or victory is won. They shot from the sunken road at
the approaching Northern generals French and Richardson s soldiers of General Sumner s corp. The
union line retreated 5 times, but kept returning. For some unexplained reasoning, the right of the
Confederate boundary ultimately stammered and subsided. Union General Richardson exploited this
convenience and went in the Confederate right. He attacked through the sunken

The Law And Its Effect On Family Provision
In the legal context, the ability to leave property to any person you desire upon death is called
testamentary freedom. The concept of testamentary freedom is perhaps the reason why many people
contemplate death and attempt to ensure that they meet all the formalities in executing a valid will. It
is important to note that testamentary freedom is not a notion that is absolute. Family members of the
individual who feel they have an entitlement under the will can bring a claim for contesting a will
against the estate. These family provision claims are becoming more common in our society and are
arguably undermining the testator s use of their free will. The courts have implemented the use of
mediation as a strategy to assist them in processing these applications. This effective and inexpensive
mechanism is a compulsory step in some states before approaching the courts while in other states
mediation is highly recommended but not compulsory. Through critical analysis of the law and its
effect on family provision claims, it will be depicted that testamentary freedom as a legal right is
adversely affected by compulsory mediation.
MEDIATION IN AUSTRALIA

claims but it is imposed by virtue of the District Court s practice notes. This practice note states that a

Physical Evidence Collected At A Crime Scene
Physical evidence collected at a crime scene provides much needed information for a criminal
investigator to build his or her case. Since the inception of the Innocence Project in 1992, more than
300 wrongfully convicted people have been exonerated after DNA testing established that the crime
for which he or she had been convicted was committed by another (Innocenceproject.org, n.d.).
Advances in forensic science makes possible the means to individualize other items of evidence that
point to the person or persons responsible for a crime. Dr. Edmond Locard formulated the principle
that is the foundation of forensic science: Every interaction leaves a trace. A drop of sweat or a flaked
off skin cell could be all that is needed to corroborate a defendant s presence during the commission of
a crime. Origins and History The earliest documented example of doctors making the connection
between cause of death and crime can be found in a book titled HsiDuan Yu ( The Washing Away of
Wrongs ) that dates back to 1248. In this book, doctors describe establishing a case of drowning by the
presence of water in a subject s lungs and identifying a death by strangulation through observing the
characteristic ligature marks on the throat and crushed cartilage in the neck (Nickell Fischer, 2014, p.
6). This same book recounts a case in which insect activity was used to solve a murder: in 1235, a
victim was murdered by hacking, and Tzu ordered the men in the village to put their

Analysis Of A Dream Play By August Strindberg
Gaiman s Strindberg Inspiration
Throughout the years, many different styles of theater have been created, adapted, and faded in and
out of popularity. One that reached popularity in the 1920 s was expressionism. A radical change from
the common styles previously performed, expressionism rose to popularity because of its unusual
approach to the dramatic art. Expressionism often has a dream like atmosphere created by bare boned
sets, disjointed plot lines, poetic dialogue, unnatural lighting, and stock characters that lack
individuality. Often when staging an expressionistic play, the set would be fairly simplistic; meaning
the bare minimum set pieces were used to create the allusion of a certain place. That could be done
through the use mostly painted backdrops in place of built up wall units. For example, if the action for
a particular scene was happening in a bedroom the stage might hold only a bed, a desk, and a dresser;
whereas in a play of different style the same room might also have a bookcase with random knick
knacks and personal items as well as a closet and a window. In A Dream Play by August Strindberg,
we see similar things happen through his stage directions, The backdrop represents banks of clouds
resembling shattered slate cliffs with ruins of castles and fortresses (Strindberg, 649). This is the first
stage direction of the play and the set is simply a backdrop, nothing else on stage but the character in
the scene. Strindberg does this again and again

Theme Of To Kill A Mockingbird Lessons
Childhood years are a very impressionable time. This is no different for the fictional characters Scout
and Jem Finch. Growing up in southern Alabama, they learned many lessons from the people around
them and the circumstances they faced. Some of these important lessons learned are courage, empathy,
and prejudice. First, they learned a great lesson about courage; courage isn t merely physical. Scout
describes her father as feeble and old. In their eyes, he never did anything worth mentioning. He
works in an office. He sits and reads. He won t play football. He doesn t hunt and doesn t play poker.

A Brief Note On Trading Strategy
Trading Strategy
As a portfolio Manager, my goal was to increase the portfolio value using a trading strategy that
combines speculation and diversification (Refer figure 1 in the appendix). As a speculator, I would be
betting on the movement of the underlying asset therefore, it was essential that I diversify my holdings
to minimize the exposure. A diversified portfolio would provide certain protection against the
downside risk if I bet wrong on the price movement. The types of vehicle I invested in were Futures
contract and Stocks. Again, the goal was to diversify within both vehicle types to protect against the
exposure (Refer figure 2 and 3).

 Long Platinum April 2016: Platinum is one of the industrious precious metals and because of its
unique properties it has become a popular trading asset. It is largely used in the auto industry and auto
industry has been experiencing a boom; which is why platinum prices have been rising steadily.
Platinum is also great investing option and it is cheaper than gold.
 Long Soybean Oil March 2016: Increasing populations and developing economies have contributed
to an ongoing increase in food demand, thus broadly raising the prices of most agricultural
commodities over the past few years. The price of soybean futures has been rising since early 2009,
while the long term outlook is favorable as well . Furthermore, the oils are commonly used for

How Does Genetics Affect The Achievement Of Food Security...
7.1 Introduction
Throughout the report the focus has been on how genetics can contribute to the achievement of food
security in the developing world through crop improvement. However, there have been other non
scientific factors involved in the implementation of the science in the development context. For certain
examples such as the use of genetic science to increase the productivity in terms of yield increase of a
crop (chapter 4), it could be argued that the non scientific factors such as governance and investment
are equally important as science for the achievement of food security as one would not work without
the other. Some of the non scientific factors mentioned were present in more than one chapter and
therefore formed a key theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He co leads a research group which investigates the genomics and evolution of the plants and animals
with a focus on crops and has experience working on projects in collaboration with developing

I have therefore looked at the potential of genetics to meet various aspects of the SDG goal, and used
that analysis to identify a number of non scientific factors associated with the potential of the science
to make a significant impact. I have then, in turn, used that analysis to design a semi structured
interview with Professor Heslop Harrison. This chapter will therefore discuss the various themes that
have emerged including an analysis of those of the chapters, along with insight provided by an expert
in the field of agricultural plant science.
FACTORS THEMES
The factors and themes in this chapter have come from the issues identified in the conclusion of the
various chapters, as well as targets 2.a, 2b.c and 2.c of SDG 2. These factors/ themes are therefore the
outcome of my thoughts and the work carried out so far in the project.

Similarities Between United Nations And Congress Of Vienna
United Nations Vs Congress of Vienna The Congress of Vienna wasn t a forerunner to the United
Nations because they are focused on rebuilding Europe and keeping peace in Europe. The United
Nations, on the other hand, was focused on preserving peace among all nations and helping others out
when they are in trouble. Also, the Congress of Vienna tried only to preserve and care about Europe
whereas the United Nations is keeping peace and stability throughout the world. One thing both
organizations have in common is they were both formed after wars; the Napoleonic Wars and World
War II. The final important reason why the Congress of Vienna shouldn t be looked at as the
forerunner of the U.N. is because the United Nations is based in the United States but the Congress of
Vienna was made in Austria and only was important to European nations.

Newsboys In The 1800 s
Despite the major setback of being part of the youth population in the late 1800 s, the Newsboys
fought the authorities for the sole purpose of understanding what they deserved, as well as any child
within the labor force. On July 20th, 1899, the start of one of the most powerful strikes in history
began. By protesting and striking against two of the largest newspaper companies in New York at the
time, the Newsies proved they weren t budging in their stance. Through holding their ground and
unmasking their will and determination, the companies gave into their requests and even left a
withstanding impact on the changing child labor laws.
The road to fair and equal child labor laws was definitely not an easy one, nor was it a quick one.

Families were not always fortunate enough to have a steady income, thus sending off their boys to
contribute in anyway that was possible. For the Newsboys, most of them didn t even have a family or

Working from dawn to dusk, the boys would be the first in line to purchase a stack of 100 newspapers
for 50 cents, hoping to sell them all in order to gain some sort of a profit. Out of fear of not being able
to make enough that day, some Newsboy would exaggerate the headlines in order to bring in more
potential customers. Clearly the boys were willing to do anything to gain a little bit of money.
Sometimes this meant cheating their customers into feeling sympathetic for them, or taking more
money than the papers were worth. When the Spanish American war began, Pulitzer and Hearst knew
that more newspapers would be sold due to citizens wanting to read all about the latest news and
updates of the war.The men were often accused of participating in yellow journalism, which was

China Beijing Olympic Games And The Environmental Impact...
Introduction
As the development of the world, sustainable development is becoming more and more remarkable
among the public. Meanwhile the environmental impacts on worldwide mega sport events are
catching an increasing attention. However the environmental impacts are complex and difficult to be
assessed quantitatively, in spite of event stakeholders often insist that it is as important as social and
economic legacies (Collins, Jones, Munday, 2009). In the recent decade, several significant mega
sports events took place which related to issues of environmental impacts, sustainability and greening
events, such as several Olympic Games, Rugby World Cup, and FIFA World Cup. Since the Beijing
Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad defined the Beijing Olympic would be

An Analytical Comparison Of Men s And Women s Literature
An Analytical Comparison of Men s and Women s Literature in Enlightenment Era Britain
Suppression of thought and action has always been a method for one people to govern over another.
When we think of suppression we typically think of slavery; the physical governance of one group
over another. However, throughout history, other forms of suppression have dominated cultures, such
as that of inequality. An example of this in today s world would be the job market for women. Though
it has undoubtedly improved through the years, a man with equal credentials to that of a woman tends
to obtain a job much more easily. This is a form of suppression through inequality by men upon
women. If a woman cannot obtain a high paying job equal or better to that of a man, she may need to
be dependent on a man for financial means. Britain women during the beginning years of the
Enlightenment period experienced suppression of their education. Literature of the 17th and 18th
centuries in Britain was characterized by raillery of both men towards women and, increasingly,
women towards men fighting the educational suppression and inequality that would lead to modern
feminism. Like all major movements, such as the civil rights movement of the 1960s, Feminism had
its birth somewhere. Feminism began with women authors such as Mary Astell, Margaret Cavendish,
Aphra Behn, and Mary Leapor (Sherman 2125). For one to understand why this movement began, one
must understand the cultural context of the time

What Is The Character Of Archie In The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War Essay You see Carter, people are two things: greedy and cruel. (Cormier, 241) This
quote said by Archie in The Chocolate War shows us the type of person Archie is. This quote not only
describes the type of person Archie is it describes Brother Leon as well. Archie and Brother Leon are
both very manipulative between abusing their powers and doing wrong things. Archie is the Assigner
of the Vigils and is in position of power which causes students the be afraid of him. Archie and
Brother Leon are really similar characters in The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, with examples
like both being cruel to students and manipulative. First reasoning on how these two characters are
similar is how they are both cruel. Archie makes students in Trinity do assignments that are horrible
and gets them in trouble. For example, Archie makes Goober do the assignment of unscrewing all the
screws in Brother Eugene s classroom. While Goober is doing this he begins to cry and get ... Show

because he starts a fundraiser to sell chocolates for money to cover up the fact that he took money
from the school when he shouldn t have. This is shown through Archie s conversation with Brian
Cochran about Leon s motives. Leon needs at least twenty thousand dollars to draw even with the

without the school s permission and the sucess of the chocolate sale will him him break even. He s

Margery Kempe Research Paper
Margery Kempe is a true feminist icon. Clever, ambitious, and married to Jesus. Kempe uses her
mystical marriage to Jesus to achieve the life that she always wanted. Her ideal life is traveling to
important religious monuments and being recognized as a notable religious figure. This paper will be
discussing her literacy and how she uses it to her advantage, her mistrust of the patriarchy and how
she defies the social norms placed on females. Kempe is a great example of a strong, independent
woman, who does not need a man in her life. Although she has Jesus to help her, for the most part she
is alone. She does not let this stop her and she achieves the life she always dreamed of having on her
own.

It would be difficult to find a clearer example of a woman who wanted to take up the role of a
preacher, she wanted to travel and become as important as the biblical figures mentioned in the Bible.
The social norms placed on woman did not control her. She wanted to live the life she dreamed of and
she did. However, travel was not something woman would normally do because it was a very
dangerous activity, not only is there the physical danger to women, such as the danger of rape,
something Kempe talks about continually; but travel by women is also dangerous in that it constitutes
an offense against basic cultural axioms, (traveler, p 3). By traveling, Kempe is challenging these
axioms, which could cause other women to do the same. This is one of the reasons why Kempe was so
threatening to men, they did not want her to encourage other females to act the same way. The female
voice is often represented, as a monstrosity which is always threatening to break out and damage the
socio religious or the domestic status quo, (5, Page 170). The men wanted to stay in control, they saw
women as less than them and they did not like the fact that Margery was finding ways to have power
for herself. Women had followed the domestic status quo for so long, more than just Margery had to
been bothered by it. The role of a woman of this time was; raising and bearing the children and
cooking the food. The men were against Kempe traveling because this broke that gender role.

Migration is a permanent movement to a new location. The migration that I chose were European
Colonists to the New World (17th century) and people migrating from Nepal to other developed
countries after the massive earthquake. The main push factors for the European Colonists were
cultural factors, there were unstability or rebellious activity, war, religious discrimination/ persecution,
and politics. Other push factors were environmental reasoning, they had limited amount of resources
and land available for agriculture and job opportunities. For economic factors, Europe was lacking a
lot of job opportunities to handle its population. The pull factors for European colonists to America
was search for gold and wealth. America also had slavery/ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
European colonists to the new world took place from 1601 1700, when colonists emigrated from
England, France, Holland, and Spain to the United States of America. There were many migrations of
the colonists before hand too in the 14th and 15th century. Some colonists that came to the states were
John Smith, Henry Hudson, Robert La Salle, Sir Walter Raleigh, Bartholomew Gosnold, Juan Ponce
de Leon, and the pilgrims. John Smith colonized James towne in 1670, Henry Hudson explored
Northern Canada in 1610, Robert La Salle explored canada in 1666/ explored the ohio region in 1669,
and the Pilgrims left for massachusetts in search of religious freedom in 1620. The Colonists migrated
to New England, the southern state of America, Canada, and the Caribbean/ Central South America. In
the early 1600 s wealthy english merchants began to pool their resources to form joint stock
companies with America called the London Virginia Company which was looking for gold. After the
colonists emigrated to other places, more and more europeans started to emigrate. Its first years were
extremely difficult, with very high death rates from disease and starvation, wars with local Indians,
and little gold. The colony survived and flourished by turning to tobacco as a cash crop. Many
Jamestown settlers who moved from Europe were desperate men, although they came from elite
families, they were younger sons who would not inherit their father s estates. In 1609, a ship bound for
Jamestown foundered in a storm and landed on Bermuda. The admiral of the ship, George Somers,
claimed the island for the English crown. The English also began to colonize small islands in the
Caribbean, an incursion into the Spanish American empire. These was about 21,000 african american
people brought to the 13 colonies from 1621 1700. In the 17th century, a group of British colonies had

The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant Analysis
Many people judge and assume others just by appearances. In the article, The Necklace by Guy de
Maupassant, we learn that sometimes appearances are not always what they seem. Below, that will be
explained through plot elements. To begin, Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article, The Necklace
uses one of the plot elements through the rising action to show the theme. The first way is when
Mathilde borrows the necklace from her friend. The article states, Go and see Madame Forestier and
ask her to lend you some jewels. You know her quite well for that. That shows that she can ask her
friends for a necklace to make herself look good. Another quote is, Suddenly she discovers, in a black
satin case, a superb diamond necklace . . . could you lend this to me, just this alone? Yes of course.
That quote shows that Mathilde really wants to look nice, even though she cannot afford it. In
conclusion, Mathilde wants to look nice even though she isn t that wealthy which supports the theme,
many people judge and assume others just by appearances. Another way Guy de Maupassant, the
author of the article The Necklace uses one of the plot elements is through the falling action to show
the theme. The one way is when Mathilde and her husband wear their everyday clothes after leaving
the party around 4 o clock. The article states, She left about four o clock in the morning. Since
midnight, her husband had been dozing in a deserted little room, in company with three other men
whose wives were having a good time. He threw over her shoulders the garments he had brought for
them to go home in, modest everyday clothes, whose poverty clashed with the beauty of the ball dress.
She was conscious of this and was anxious to hurry away, so that she should not be noticed by the
other women putting on their costly furs. That shows that Mathilde was embarrassed and wanted to
leave the party as soon as possible. To sum up, Mathilde was embarrassed when wearing casual
clothes and that supports the theme, many people judge and assume others just by appearances. The
last way Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article, The Necklace uses one of the plot elements is
through the resolution to show the theme. That one way is at

Theme Of Good And Evil In All The Light We Cannot See
Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It s a constant struggle as to which one will
win. And one cannot exist without the other. Eric Burdon. The theme of good versus evil can be
applied to almost every novel but in different aspects. In the novel, All the Light We Cannot See by
Anthony Doerr, plays a good and evil side at the same time. This book is in the time period of WWII
in Paris, France following a blind girl and an intellectual boy. The girl, Marie Laure, is our good side
of the story, for instance, always wanting to help her father with what she can, listening and knowing
what the right thing to do is, and taking action when needed, adding to her blindness to not let that
stop her. The German boy we follow, Werner, he is wanting to help others as well, but not for the right
reasons, he lets the evil, in this case, the Nazis, take control of him and use him for his brain.
Werner likes to please people, but not the right people. Werner builds radios for the Nazis, and they
praise him for it, for instance, Werner sets up the first transceiver, uses measuring tape to pace off two
hundred meters, and sets up a second. He uncoils the grounding wires, raises the aerials, and switches
them on. Already his fingers are numb... Werner puts on the headset and fills his ears with static.... I

ranked based on their usefulness, closeness and truthfulness. I agree with the writer as the usefulness
of friends can determine their level of significance in one s life. Firstly, a friend who has the capability
to provide the help required for another would be perceived as more noteworthy. For instance, imagine
if Bill Gates offered to be your pal and forked out ten million dollars to clear your colossal debts,
would he not be immediately shot up to the top of your friends list? Secondly, the level of closeness is
crucial in shaping the rating of a friend. One would only consider another a good friend if both of

Some More Facts About Pediatric Speech Therapy
Some more facts about pediatric speech therapy The parents need to be very observant when it comes
to noticing the all over development of the child. Many times the parents get too upset about the child
s development regarding his responding to the various sounds and noises. Child specialists say that it
is crucial for the child to respond to any conversation or sound in children speech therapy. In many
cases, the parents are not able to detect defects in the speech of the child. By the time they realize it
may be too late. In the case of such problems and defects, the first point is that the parents should not
panic. They have to handle the whole situation with a lot of patience. They should immediately
consult a child expert who works on pediatric speech therapy. Any speech oriented problem can be
cured. But that shall take time. One cannot lose patience.
The critical developmental stages of children can be categorized into too many stages. They mark
major junctures of the child s development regarding the baby s maturity. The children developmental
stages range according to age. At this juncture, they have to acquire consultation from some physician
or child specialist who can give them the solution accordingly. They do not want to falter or create risk
for the child regarding health. These tender stages need guidance and proper tutoring when it comes to
cognitive development. One needs to provide them the best solutions to the problems of the child

The Reformation And Its Impact On The Early Modern Period
The reformation was a drastic event in the early modern period that launched Europe into a massive
conflict of widespread violence, through both political and religious factors. The political scene had
remained very much the same before the beginning of the reformation in 1517, with many
philosophers sharing similar ideas on how to handle the issues of sovereignty and private property.
Religion was a long debated factor before the reformation however was brought inadvertently to the
forefront of most political works in the early years of the Protestant Reformation. This event
completely changed the way in which philosophers constructed their political discourse as seen with
More and Martin Luther, who although despite being placed on ... Show more content on

This shift from promoting an ideal Utopia in his work to openly and aggressively defending the
Catholic Church is one of the first examples of the Reformations affect on changing political discourse
from criticisms to open violent outbursts and pleas of aggression. Adding to this further is More s
response to Tyndale in 1531, where More states the Reformation is a genuine danger to all of Catholic
society4. More was eventually executed but stated I die the Kings faithful servant, but Gods First 5
revealing although More hated the Reformation, he had stood by his religious values, including his
King, making his political writing still plausible in terms of how an authority, such as a monarch,
could work hand in hand in a religious society. More s response to Tyndale and final words shows
how much his own way of political discourse had shifted through the years of the reformation, as he
had called for violence in the early years 1517, aggressively insulted protestant philosophers such as
Luther, but had now consorted to reason. Therefore it can be concluded that many of the philosophers
actions during the early years of the Reformation were shock reactions to this shift in power and
apparent attack on the perceived Catholic state rather than a true change in political discourse, as
many of the underlying religious opinions in political writing has been retained.
Martin Luther was one of the most important individuals in changing political discourse in the

Not Waving but Drowning
NOT WAVING BUT DROWNING
BY STEVIE SMITH
NOT WAVING BUT DROWNING
BY STEVIE SMITH
The poem Not Waving But Drowning , by Stevie Smith, is a poem in which there is a drowning man
at sea. In this poem, the poet is talking about the difficulty of communication and the fundamental
isolation of the individual in modern society. The title of the poem gives us an immediate indication
that the poem will tackle a serious matter. The poem contains three voices; the drowning man, the
observers and the people on the beach. It can be interpreted on both a literal and metaphorical level of
meaning.
Stevie Smith (Florence Margaret) was born in Hull, Yorkshire. She was both a novelist and poet.
Smith was born in 1902 and died in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pause after gave way , followed by the last line They said , indicates that other interpretations are
possible which really reflects what happened: that the man found life as too lonely or difficult and
gave up.
The observers completely misinterpret the situation. The people on the beach are unable to discern the
man s moments of joy from his moments of despair. We can interpret the phrase It must have been too
cold for him his heart gave way , in both a literal and figurative way. Literally, the observers could be
saying that the man has had a heart attack as a result of the cold temperature of the water; figuratively,
we might say that this unknown man lacked the warmth of human relationships. His life was empty of
love and warm feelings which has caused him to give up on life.
The third and final stanza shows us how desperate the man s situation has been, both past and present.
The repetition of no stresses this fact by underlining how he has always felt cold, unloved,
unappreciated and misunderstood. In fact he says I was much too far out all my life . The water in
which he drowns, symbolizes a barrier which separates him from the rest of society, such as his
inability to make friends. It could also symbolize his life, a life in which he could not cope due to the
various difficulties he was experiencing.
The poem s apparent simplicity concerns serious issues which preoccupied the poet, Stevie

Rhitorical Appeals in Literature Essay
Throughout the Three pieces of literature I read Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie, Crazy Courage
by Alma Luz Villanueva, and Theme for English B by Langston Hughes, multiple claims are implied
on the subject of knowledge and individual power. Whether it is about Race, being different, or the
struggle to survive, they all point towards the same direction. They all show that being strong, proud,
and courage is what makes you individually powerful, even if others may look down upon you or
think of you as weird. Through the use of the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos, these three
authors truly move the readers to really accept what they are trying to prove. In Superman and Me by
Sherman Alexie, the narrator s claim is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem Crazy Courage by Alma Luz Villanueva, the author talks about a man named Michael that
she met in her fiction class, who, as she later finds out, is a cross dresser. Using the rhetorical appeal
Pathos, the author truly proves her point that other people s opinions do not matter so long as you are
courageous and confident about yourself. In the poem, Michael seems so courageous, even though he
is dressed in woman s clothes and in front of an entire class, that it shocked / the young, seen it all
MTV crowd / into silence (Villanueva 20 23). The class was so shocked at the confidence of the
person in front of them considering his situation that they couldn t even speak. In fact, even those who
would kill him were impressed at the level of courage he must have had, and the fact that he seemed
even happier in the seemingly odd clothes and outfit he was wearing (Villanueva 27). Last but not
least is the poem Theme for English B by Langston Hughes. The author Langston Hughes seems to
use more of a Logical appeal. While it doesn t seem to be the most organized Poem, there is without a
doubt some sort of claim. While it isn t necessarily the best example of a claim that relates to
knowledge and individual power, it seemed like an interesting poem to write about. In my opinion, the
author is trying to show that even though he is of a different race than his white teacher, and even
though he is

Why Token Reinforcement Can Increase The Rate Of Sight...
The study published by DeVries and Feldman in 1983, showed that token reinforcement can increase
the rate of sight word acquisition within students with a learning disability in a resource room setting.
The study was comprised of two participants, a nine year old boy with directionality and perceptual
difficulties and an eleven year old boy with auditory figure ground discrimination. Both participants
were two years below grade level in word recognition, had a diagnosis of a learning disability and
average intellectual function level, and both were from southwestern USA. After a baseline of each
student s sight words recognition, multiple lists of different five unknown sight words were selected,
to use during the intervention. The teacher explained the guidelines of the token system; if the student
could remember a sight word 24 hours after the lesson, the teacher would get put a star next to the
word. Once the student earned 5 stars (one for each word) they would a sticker on their goal sheet.
DeVries and Feldman s study used stickers as tokens. The children chose a prize of a pre determined
list created by a survey they took. The students could then trade in their stickers for a tangible prize
from their prize menu. The prize menu was derived from a survey the participants took during the
baseline. The goal sheets were sent home to receive the award of parental praise. The study showed
that both students increase their sight word vocabulary by 330 percent or more

Cinderella And Princess Culture Summary
The Princess Paradox and Cinderella and Princess Culture Authors James Poniewozik and Peggy
Orenstein are both concerned with the increase of princess culture among young girls. Poniewozik s
article The Princess Paradox and Orenstein s article Cinderella and Princess Culture discuss similar
aspects of princess culture that could be potentially harmful to it s audience. Both Poniewozik and
Orenstein take on a feminist perspective in their articles. Specifically, both authors discuss feminist
themes in princess culture but Orenstein focuses on toddler to pre teen aged girls while Poniewozik is
more concerned with specifically teenagers. Both authors make satirical remarks towards princess
culture. Orenstein describes a dentist visit where she became unhinged after the professional asked her
three year old daughter, Would you like to sit in my special princess throne so I can sparkle your
teeth? (326). She describes the dentists remark as a Betty Boop inflection mocking the high pitched
tone in which the dentist chose to speak to her daughter (326). As a feminist, Orenstein advocates that
women must earn their respect in order to be treated equally. She does not want her daughter, being as
young as she is, to grow up thinking she is entitled to being treated as royalty. Therefore she is
insulted by the mollycoddling her daughter receives simply because she is a little girl. On the other
hand, Poniewozik uses the film 13 Going on 30 to describe how ridiculously

  • 2. Spanish Myths, And Legends The Lady in Blue The Lady in Blue is a popular Spanish legend in the Southwest and particularly New Mexico. The legend of the lady started with New Mexico Indians in the 17th century and remains popular today. The Lady in Blue was in fact a real person Maria de Jesus de Agreda, or Sor Maria, as she was called. Sor Maria founded the Convent of the Immaculate Conception at Agreda. Sor Maria had a very strong reputation throughout Spain for her wisdom and sanctity, as well as her mystical and religious writings. After July 1643, Sor Maria became widely known for a more important reason. It was during this month, on the way to Aragon, that King Phillip IV stopped at Sor Maria s convent. Following the visit, the two exchanged letters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sailors declined. Another tale, from Antonio Galvao, also confirmed the presence of the island and its Portuguese inhabitants, who were curious about how the homefolks were doing against the Moors. Stories such as these prompted men like Columbus and, later, Coronado, to seek out the elusive Seven Cities of Antilia, regardless of the cost in time, men, and finances. They were sure the island was out there, lurking somewhere in the misty folds of the Atlantic. The legend was so ingrained in European society that most believed Columbus had found Antilia when he landed in the West Indies (the island group soon took the name, Antilles). John Cabot, when he landed in New England in 1497, named the area the Seven Cities . After Columbus s voyages to the New World, Spain sent numerous explorers with three main objectives: Religious figures attempted to convert the natives to Christianity. • 3. The Great Commission Analysis From the genesis of creation, God s mission is to motivate his creation (people) to work with the resources he provides to bring forth new and good things and establish an order to a chaotic and broken world. In fact, the world that God created is good, and when humans begin to work alongside God in creation, things become very good (Genesis 1:31). Unfortunately, because of the fall of humanity, God s creation strays away and falls short of God s original intent. As a result, the human condition swings on a pendulum from good too bad while God s continues to reconcile humanity. God first chose the nation of Israel, then sent Jesus and Jesus subsequent death and resurrection to continue God s reconciliation in the world today. Additionally, ... However, my understanding as it relates to the great commission is all means all and I approach God s mission with this understanding. I join God s mission with the lens seeing that every creature needs hear the good news of Jesus saving work in the world. The importance of the word all should must be accentuated in joining God in God s mission. My understanding is sculpted in my personal testimony. Five generations before me, my family was brought to America as slaves. They labored in fields and experienced less than human treatment and one can only imagine how hardened one s heart must have been in light of the atrocities that brought them to America. My great great great grandfather Hope Quick was one of those slaves on a plantation in Bennettsville, South Carolina. One night after working in the fields, someone invited him a camp meeting where slaves were allowed to meet to hear the gospel. In spite of his station as a slave, Bishop Francis Asbury preached that Jesus died so that all might be saved. In that moment, he begin to cry and even though he was a slave he accepted the gospel message and became a Christian; a follower of the way. It is through that missionary who joined God in God s mission that the Quick family and future generations came to know Christ. This experience profoundly shaped my understanding that all means all. My missiology is immersed in this concept because scripture clearly says all. There are no limitations to God s saving grace and that grace is for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Leaving New York City for the Farmlands of Illinois Essay | Case: Leaving New York City for the Farmlands of Illinois There are a lot of things to consider before making a career changes, especially one as big as uprooting yourself from the business world in a major city to moving to rural farmland, learning a new trade from the bottom up. It is crucial to research your options before making any decisions. The advice from your colleagues in the text does bring up some really good points. If the article in The Wall Street Journal holds to be true, now would be an excellent time to get into the farming business producing corn crops if there is going to be an increased demand for corn to produce corn based ethanol as a gasoline substitute. If there will be an increase in the demand for corn, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming that the 80 acres of farmland do not come with all of the equipment needed to grow and harvest corn crops, there will be an additional investment beyond the $80,000 for the land in terms of both time and money. If you do not have the additional funds to not only purchase the materials and hire the manpower to get the farm up and running, but also the funds to sustain your likelihood while waiting for the crops to turn a profit, you would find yourself in quite the predicament. There are alternatives to obtaining these additional resources, such as taking out business loans or finding a business partner, but these added expenses may in turn cause additional stress in your life, defeating the purpose of moving to Illinois seeking refuge in a more peaceful environment. I also believe it is important to research the corn crops and corn based ethanol a little bit more before jumping into a decision like this. According to the 2014 Illinois Crop Budgets corn crops have lower returns than received in recent years, suggesting that incomes will be down for corn farmers in comparison to previous years (Schnitkey, 2013). Even with the increased demand for ethanol, knowing that projected incomes are potentially in decline is something one should not take lightly before making such a drastic career ... • 5. The Revolution Of The 19th Century As the United States entered the 19th century, a new era of development and evolution in its economy, population, and technology was ushered into American society. America s economic and industrial power grew as a result of the industrial revolution of the 1800 s. At this time, organizations known as political machines saw an opportunity and capitalized on the fears and desires of individuals who wanted to achieve the American dream but could not necessarily find the means to achieve those goals. These political machines took control over urban areas because they promised wealth and prosperity to those who were looking for it. For impoverished immigrants that were searching for any means to survive, these incentives created a false sense of hope for those who believed that political machines truly had their best interest at heart. Essentially, political machines were just another chance for someone to make money off of another person by taking advantage of their unfortunate circumstances and voting rights in order to control the politics of their cities. America was growing rapidly, but this came at a great cost. The late 19th century was coined by Mark Twain as the Gilded Age because everything in the United States seemed to be flourishing, the industrial age had created an illusion of prosperity due to underlying issues such as: poverty, crime, corruption, and over crowding due to a large influx of immigrants from Europe. • 6. The Constraints Of Constraint Management A constraint is anything that limits a system from achieving higher performance relative to its goal. Constraint management seeks to help managers at all levels of an organization. It ensures that they maintain proper focus on the factors that are most critical to overall success of system constraints. Constraint Management efforts can immediately resolve extremely negative effects from machine, labor, and process inefficiencies, and have the ability to fund an entire transition to lean through substantial increases in throughput. There are three rules to constraint management. They are identifying system constraints, exploiting the constraint, and improving the constraint gaps. A business owner or supervisor using the constraint model of management can t focus employees on system constraints without first identifying those constraints. Naming the constraints that are integral to a company s success, including company work policies and manufacturing standards, sets up clear expectations for employees regarding performance and productivity. Exploiting the constraint is the process by which a company maximizes profit through use of a given system constraint. Tying the completion of project steps by nonconstrained resources to completion by constrained resources improves operational efficiency and closes gaps in schedules. (Lister, 2016). On a daily basis, a company s constraint is the major regulating factor that decreases the amount of material or items passing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Unreasonable Foolishness In The Gift Of Magi Many people would consider the story, The Gift of Magi , an act of foolishness, but there is more to the tale than unreasonable foolishness. The sacrifices the main characters, Jim and Della Dillingham Young, made for each other were what many people would call an act of true love and generosity. They had no money for Christmas, although they did have something of substance to trade. Della had her long, beautiful hair and Jim had his pocket watch. They sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house (161). Jim and Della gave all they had for each other. According to O. Henry, they could be considered Magi. The Dillingham Young s did not stop to consider how they would be affected. They thought of each other s happiness before their own. Instead, they sell their greatest treasures to buy the other a gift for Christmas. The story of The Gift of the Magi shows the underlying meaning to be truly wealthy and to sacrifice everything for it. Wealth is more than money to countless people. Love and happiness is the key to wealth. Jim and Della may not have money but they are indeed wealthy. Love is more important than any possession or gift anyone can contain. O. Henry illustrated that within The Gift of the Magi . He showed that love and happiness is the true wealth of life by using literary elements like symbolism, the type of narrator, and irony. In the beginning, the story tells about how Della does not have any money to purchase a gift for her husband, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Quick Change Methodology Report Jacob Lambrecht 12/14/16 Process I Today I will be talking about the research I did on quick change methodology. This is a very fascinating and important topic for the machining process in all plants across the world. The topics that will be covered in this paper are as follows defining quick change methodology and tooling for machining with an overview history and recent advancements, SMED overview history and recent advancements, then a compare and contrast of quick change methodology and SMED, and to wrap up the paper I will illustrate how I can use this information to improve a manufacturing process I am familiar with. These were great research topics and I learned a ton of great valuable information that would be very useful in future endeavors. First I will talk about defining quick change methodology and tooling for machining with an overview history and recent advancements. It is a modular system that allows tools to be changed rapidly on a machine during the initial part setup and the tool change after a tool is worn out. The system radically decreases machine downtime for tool change for the duration of setup changes. It is also for changing worn out inserts during machining. Normally a tool is fastened by putting it into a slot in the turret and tightening screws to hold it resolutely. With doing this older process of fastening the tool, extreme care must be taken to seat the holder correctly against existing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. A Brief Note On The Battle Of Antietam The Battle of Antietam started the morning of September 17, 1862 at 0600. Union troops of the First and Twelfth Corps made their way across Antietam Creek the day before in efforts to attack the left flank. From 0600 to 1000, the Union troops were with Confederates under Major General Thomas Stonewall Jackson. This engagement occurred in a 24 acre cornfield. These were the most deadly hours of the battle; over 8,000 casualties were killed at this time. As Union General Joseph Hooker later wrote, It was never my fortune to witness a bloody, dismal battlefield in that nature. In the first hour of the battle in the Cornfield, the slaughter was so intense that one man fell, was killed or wounded every second. By 10 am, Union troops ... Midday page: 5 The battle moved south into a section of the line known as the Sunken Road because of a major terrain feature. At about mid morning the fight was expected to take place from 9:30 AM and last until 1:00 PM. The Confederates in the middle of the battlefield, led by General D.H. Hill, were in a sunken road that they were told to hold at any price. Colonel John B. Gordon said to General Lee these men are going to stay here, general, till the sun goes down or victory is won. They shot from the sunken road at the approaching Northern generals French and Richardson s soldiers of General Sumner s corp. The union line retreated 5 times, but kept returning. • 15. The Law And Its Effect On Family Provision In the legal context, the ability to leave property to any person you desire upon death is called testamentary freedom. The concept of testamentary freedom is perhaps the reason why many people contemplate death and attempt to ensure that they meet all the formalities in executing a valid will. It is important to note that testamentary freedom is not a notion that is absolute. Family members of the individual who feel they have an entitlement under the will can bring a claim for contesting a will against the estate. These family provision claims are becoming more common in our society and are arguably undermining the testator s use of their free will. The courts have implemented the use of mediation as a strategy to assist them in processing these applications. This effective and inexpensive mechanism is a compulsory step in some states before approaching the courts while in other states mediation is highly recommended but not compulsory. Through critical analysis of the law and its effect on family provision claims, it will be depicted that testamentary freedom as a legal right is adversely affected by compulsory mediation. MEDIATION IN AUSTRALIA Queensland In Queensland, the legislation does not stipulate that mediation is compulsory in family provision claims but it is imposed by virtue of the District Court s practice notes. This practice note states that a draft order to the court must comprise of a dispute resolution plan . The rationale behind this note is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Physical Evidence Collected At A Crime Scene Physical evidence collected at a crime scene provides much needed information for a criminal investigator to build his or her case. Since the inception of the Innocence Project in 1992, more than 300 wrongfully convicted people have been exonerated after DNA testing established that the crime for which he or she had been convicted was committed by another (Innocenceproject.org, n.d.). Advances in forensic science makes possible the means to individualize other items of evidence that point to the person or persons responsible for a crime. Dr. Edmond Locard formulated the principle that is the foundation of forensic science: Every interaction leaves a trace. A drop of sweat or a flaked off skin cell could be all that is needed to corroborate a defendant s presence during the commission of a crime. Origins and History The earliest documented example of doctors making the connection between cause of death and crime can be found in a book titled HsiDuan Yu ( The Washing Away of Wrongs ) that dates back to 1248. In this book, doctors describe establishing a case of drowning by the presence of water in a subject s lungs and identifying a death by strangulation through observing the characteristic ligature marks on the throat and crushed cartilage in the neck (Nickell Fischer, 2014, p. 6). This same book recounts a case in which insect activity was used to solve a murder: in 1235, a victim was murdered by hacking, and Tzu ordered the men in the village to put their ... • 19. Analysis Of A Dream Play By August Strindberg Gaiman s Strindberg Inspiration Throughout the years, many different styles of theater have been created, adapted, and faded in and out of popularity. One that reached popularity in the 1920 s was expressionism. A radical change from the common styles previously performed, expressionism rose to popularity because of its unusual approach to the dramatic art. Expressionism often has a dream like atmosphere created by bare boned sets, disjointed plot lines, poetic dialogue, unnatural lighting, and stock characters that lack individuality. Often when staging an expressionistic play, the set would be fairly simplistic; meaning the bare minimum set pieces were used to create the allusion of a certain place. That could be done through the use mostly painted backdrops in place of built up wall units. For example, if the action for a particular scene was happening in a bedroom the stage might hold only a bed, a desk, and a dresser; whereas in a play of different style the same room might also have a bookcase with random knick knacks and personal items as well as a closet and a window. In A Dream Play by August Strindberg, we see similar things happen through his stage directions, The backdrop represents banks of clouds resembling shattered slate cliffs with ruins of castles and fortresses (Strindberg, 649). This is the first stage direction of the play and the set is simply a backdrop, nothing else on stage but the character in the scene. Strindberg does this again and again ... A diversified portfolio would provide certain protection against the downside risk if I bet wrong on the price movement. The types of vehicle I invested in were Futures contract and Stocks. For certain examples such as the use of genetic science to increase the productivity in terms of yield increase of a crop (chapter 4), it could be argued that the non scientific factors such as governance and investment are equally important as science for the achievement of food security as one would not work without the other. The United Nations, on the other hand, was focused on preserving peace among all nations and helping others out when they are in trouble. Also, the Congress of Vienna tried only to preserve and care about Europe whereas the United Nations is keeping peace and stability throughout the world. One thing both organizations have in common is they were both formed after wars; the Napoleonic Wars and World War II. • 29. An Analytical Comparison Of Men s And Women s Literature An Analytical Comparison of Men s and Women s Literature in Enlightenment Era Britain Suppression of thought and action has always been a method for one people to govern over another. When we think of suppression we typically think of slavery; the physical governance of one group over another. However, throughout history, other forms of suppression have dominated cultures, such as that of inequality. An example of this in today s world would be the job market for women. Though it has undoubtedly improved through the years, a man with equal credentials to that of a woman tends to obtain a job much more easily. This is a form of suppression through inequality by men upon women. If a woman cannot obtain a high paying job equal or better to that of a man, she may need to be dependent on a man for financial means. Britain women during the beginning years of the Enlightenment period experienced suppression of their education. Literature of the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain was characterized by raillery of both men towards women and, increasingly, women towards men fighting the educational suppression and inequality that would lead to modern feminism. Like all major movements, such as the civil rights movement of the 1960s, Feminism had its birth somewhere. Feminism began with women authors such as Mary Astell, Margaret Cavendish, Aphra Behn, and Mary Leapor (Sherman 2125). Archie is the Assigner of the Vigils and is in position of power which causes students the be afraid of him. Archie and Brother Leon are really similar characters in The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, with examples like both being cruel to students and manipulative. First reasoning on how these two characters are similar is how they are both cruel. Archie makes students in Trinity do assignments that are horrible and gets them in trouble. However, travel was not something woman would normally do because it was a very dangerous activity, not only is there the physical danger to women, such as the danger of rape, something Kempe talks about continually; but travel by women is also dangerous in that it constitutes an offense against basic cultural axioms, (traveler, p 3). By traveling, Kempe is challenging these axioms, which could cause other women to do the same. The Colonists migrated to New England, the southern state of America, Canada, and the Caribbean/ Central South America. In the early 1600 s wealthy english merchants began to pool their resources to form joint stock companies with America called the London Virginia Company which was looking for gold. • 34. The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant Analysis Many people judge and assume others just by appearances. In the article, The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, we learn that sometimes appearances are not always what they seem. Below, that will be explained through plot elements. To begin, Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article, The Necklace uses one of the plot elements through the rising action to show the theme. The first way is when Mathilde borrows the necklace from her friend. The article states, Go and see Madame Forestier and ask her to lend you some jewels. You know her quite well for that. That shows that she can ask her friends for a necklace to make herself look good. Another quote is, Suddenly she discovers, in a black satin case, a superb diamond necklace . . . could you lend this to me, just this alone? Yes of course. That quote shows that Mathilde really wants to look nice, even though she cannot afford it. In conclusion, Mathilde wants to look nice even though she isn t that wealthy which supports the theme, many people judge and assume others just by appearances. Another way Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article The Necklace uses one of the plot elements is through the falling action to show the theme. The one way is when Mathilde and her husband wear their everyday clothes after leaving the party around 4 o clock. The article states, She left about four o clock in the morning. Since midnight, her husband had been dozing in a deserted little room, in company with three other men whose wives were having a good time. He threw over her shoulders the garments he had brought for them to go home in, modest everyday clothes, whose poverty clashed with the beauty of the ball dress. She was conscious of this and was anxious to hurry away, so that she should not be noticed by the other women putting on their costly furs. That shows that Mathilde was embarrassed and wanted to leave the party as soon as possible. To sum up, Mathilde was embarrassed when wearing casual clothes and that supports the theme, many people judge and assume others just by appearances. And one cannot exist without the other. Eric Burdon. The theme of good versus evil can be applied to almost every novel but in different aspects. The only competitive event I was to participate in was the Electrathon race, which was scheduled for later that afternoon. The Electrathon Race is an event where we race student designed go kart sized vehicles that are powered by two twelve volt batteries. The point of the race is to see how many laps you can go in one hour on one battery charge. Even though I was not competing in an event that morning, I still had to dress in khaki pants, a polo shirt, and closed toed loafers to enter and attended the conference sessions. Leaving my hotel room and stepping onto the elevator, I was ready for the day. As I walked out of the revolving door of the Hilton I was excited but nervous for the events to come that day. I crossed the street and headed into the Classic Center. Weaving through the crowds of people I headed to the escalator to go down Grand Hall 8 to find my advisor. As I stepped onto the escalator and headed down, my mind speed up and the nerves kicked in at full speed. I stepped off the escalator and weaving through the crowd again to get to my destination. When I arrived at Grand Hall 8, I found Mr. Morgan ,my advisor. He gave me keys to go check the trailer for helmets. Going back through the crowds, I headed out of the building and out ... The Effects of Different Disinfectants on Bacteria Essay I chose to do the effects of different disinfectants on bacteria because I have always wondered if disinfectants such as Clorox, Lysol, and hand sanitizer actually kill 99.9 percent of germs. Also, I know that there are harsh chemicals that can be damaging to us over time. Do these harsh chemicals get the job done? Maybe taking a green, organic way could be the solution in the future. My main question is which is the better disinfectant, Clorox Disinfecting Wipes or Lysol Disinfecting Wipes. I want to uncover the truth about each product and show the reality of both. Friends And Such Good Friends Judith Viorst In the reading, Friends, Good Friends and Such Good Friends, Judith Viorst illustrated that friends are ranked based on their usefulness, closeness and truthfulness. I agree with the writer as the usefulness of friends can determine their level of significance in one s life. Firstly, a friend who has the capability to provide the help required for another would be perceived as more noteworthy. For instance, imagine if Bill Gates offered to be your pal and forked out ten million dollars to clear your colossal debts, would he not be immediately shot up to the top of your friends list? Secondly, the level of closeness is crucial in shaping the rating of a friend. One would only consider another a good friend if both of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Reformation And Its Impact On The Early Modern Period The reformation was a drastic event in the early modern period that launched Europe into a massive conflict of widespread violence, through both political and religious factors. The political scene had remained very much the same before the beginning of the reformation in 1517, with many philosophers sharing similar ideas on how to handle the issues of sovereignty and private property. Religion was a long debated factor before the reformation however was brought inadvertently to the forefront of most political works in the early years of the Protestant Reformation. This event completely changed the way in which philosophers constructed their political discourse as seen with More and Martin Luther, who although despite being placed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shift from promoting an ideal Utopia in his work to openly and aggressively defending the Catholic Church is one of the first examples of the Reformations affect on changing political discourse from criticisms to open violent outbursts and pleas of aggression. Adding to this further is More s response to Tyndale in 1531, where More states the Reformation is a genuine danger to all of Catholic society4. More was eventually executed but stated I die the Kings faithful servant, but Gods First 5 revealing although More hated the Reformation, he had stood by his religious values, including his King, making his political writing still plausible in terms of how an authority, such as a monarch, could work hand in hand in a religious society. More s response to Tyndale and final words shows how much his own way of political discourse had shifted through the years of the reformation, as he had called for violence in the early years 1517, aggressively insulted protestant philosophers such as Luther, but had now consorted to reason. Therefore it can be concluded that many of the philosophers actions during the early years of the Reformation were shock reactions to this shift in power and apparent attack on the perceived Catholic state rather than a true change in political discourse, as many of the underlying religious opinions in political writing has been retained. Martin Luther was one of the most important individuals in changing political discourse in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not Waving but Drowning NOT WAVING BUT DROWNING BY STEVIE SMITH NOT WAVING BUT DROWNING BY STEVIE SMITH The poem Not Waving But Drowning , by Stevie Smith, is a poem in which there is a drowning man at sea. In this poem, the poet is talking about the difficulty of communication and the fundamental isolation of the individual in modern society. The title of the poem gives us an immediate indication that the poem will tackle a serious matter. The poem contains three voices; the drowning man, the observers and the people on the beach. It can be interpreted on both a literal and metaphorical level of meaning. Stevie Smith (Florence Margaret) was born in Hull, Yorkshire. She was both a novelist and poet. The pause after gave way , followed by the last line They said , indicates that other interpretations are possible which really reflects what happened: that the man found life as too lonely or difficult and gave up. The observers completely misinterpret the situation. The people on the beach are unable to discern the man s moments of joy from his moments of despair. We can interpret the phrase It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way , in both a literal and figurative way. Literally, the observers could be saying that the man has had a heart attack as a result of the cold temperature of the water; figuratively, we might say that this unknown man lacked the warmth of human relationships. His life was empty of love and warm feelings which has caused him to give up on life. The third and final stanza shows us how desperate the man s situation has been, both past and present. The repetition of no stresses this fact by underlining how he has always felt cold, unloved, unappreciated and misunderstood. In fact he says I was much too far out all my life . The water in which he drowns, symbolizes a barrier which separates him from the rest of society, such as his inability to make friends. It could also symbolize his life, a life in which he could not cope due to the various difficulties he was experiencing. • 47. Rhitorical Appeals in Literature Essay Throughout the Three pieces of literature I read Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie, Crazy Courage by Alma Luz Villanueva, and Theme for English B by Langston Hughes, multiple claims are implied on the subject of knowledge and individual power. Whether it is about Race, being different, or the struggle to survive, they all point towards the same direction. They all show that being strong, proud, and courage is what makes you individually powerful, even if others may look down upon you or think of you as weird. Through the use of the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos, these three authors truly move the readers to really accept what they are trying to prove. In the poem Crazy Courage by Alma Luz Villanueva, the author talks about a man named Michael that she met in her fiction class, who, as she later finds out, is a cross dresser. Using the rhetorical appeal Pathos, the author truly proves her point that other people s opinions do not matter so long as you are courageous and confident about yourself. In the poem, Michael seems so courageous, even though he is dressed in woman s clothes and in front of an entire class, that it shocked / the young, seen it all MTV crowd / into silence (Villanueva 20 23). The class was so shocked at the confidence of the person in front of them considering his situation that they couldn t even speak. In fact, even those who would kill him were impressed at the level of courage he must have had, and the fact that he seemed even happier in the seemingly odd clothes and outfit he was wearing (Villanueva 27). Last but not least is the poem Theme for English B by Langston Hughes. The author Langston Hughes seems to use more of a Logical appeal. While it doesn t seem to be the most organized Poem, there is without a doubt some sort of claim. While it isn t necessarily the best example of a claim that relates to knowledge and individual power, it seemed like an interesting poem to write about. In my opinion, the author is trying to show that even though he is of a different race than his white teacher, and even though he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Why Token Reinforcement Can Increase The Rate Of Sight... The study published by DeVries and Feldman in 1983, showed that token reinforcement can increase the rate of sight word acquisition within students with a learning disability in a resource room setting. The study was comprised of two participants, a nine year old boy with directionality and perceptual difficulties and an eleven year old boy with auditory figure ground discrimination. Both participants were two years below grade level in word recognition, had a diagnosis of a learning disability and average intellectual function level, and both were from southwestern USA. After a baseline of each student s sight words recognition, multiple lists of different five unknown sight words were selected, to use during the intervention. The teacher explained the guidelines of the token system; if the student could remember a sight word 24 hours after the lesson, the teacher would get put a star next to the word. Once the student earned 5 stars (one for each word) they would a sticker on their goal sheet. DeVries and Feldman s study used stickers as tokens. The children chose a prize of a pre determined list created by a survey they took. The students could then trade in their stickers for a tangible prize from their prize menu. The prize menu was derived from a survey the participants took during the baseline. The goal sheets were sent home to receive the award of parental praise. • 50. Cinderella And Princess Culture Summary The Princess Paradox and Cinderella and Princess Culture Authors James Poniewozik and Peggy Orenstein are both concerned with the increase of princess culture among young girls. Poniewozik s article The Princess Paradox and Orenstein s article Cinderella and Princess Culture discuss similar aspects of princess culture that could be potentially harmful to it s audience. Both Poniewozik and Orenstein take on a feminist perspective in their articles. Specifically, both authors discuss feminist themes in princess culture but Orenstein focuses on toddler to pre teen aged girls while Poniewozik is more concerned with specifically teenagers. Both authors make satirical remarks towards princess culture. Orenstein describes a dentist visit where she became unhinged after the professional asked her three year old daughter, Would you like to sit in my special princess throne so I can sparkle your teeth? (326). She describes the dentists remark as a Betty Boop inflection mocking the high pitched tone in which the dentist chose to speak to her daughter (326). As a feminist, Orenstein advocates that women must earn their respect in order to be treated equally. She does not want her daughter, being as young as she is, to grow up thinking she is entitled to being treated as royalty. Therefore she is insulted by the mollycoddling her daughter receives simply because she is a little girl. On the other hand, Poniewozik uses the film 13 Going on 30 to describe how ridiculously ...
