Irish Hibernophobia
Though most Irish emigrants left their homes in search of a better lives free from persecution, those
who settled in the United States typically found equal levels of persecution yet, chose to remain
stateside because of the opportunities for work and the new found sense of community among Irish
immigrants in the United States. The first immigrant to enter the United States through Ellis Island,
Annie Moore, was a 15 year old from County Cork. Since the colonial times, Irish immigrants have
been ever present in the United States; however, also ever present is hibernophobia, or anti Irish
sentiment.
From the Norman Invasion in the late 12th century until the formation of the Irish Free State in 1922,
Ireland was either under direct English rule or subject to direct British political involvement. Under
British rule, the Irish were stereotyped as stupid, half human savages and later, as lazy, idle drunkards
(Judd). Not so much changed in terms of hibernophobia for those who left Ireland for the United
States. In fact, several new stereotypes were born. The Irish were again labeled lazy drunkards, an
ironic stereotype because of the contradicting occupational stereotypes of the Irish being policemen,
lawyers, firefighters, and bartenders which are well paying, steady jobs that could not be held by lazy
drunkards. The Irish were also stereotyped as violent because of the prevalence of usually criminal
gangs such as the Dead Rabbits and The Westies and events such as Bloody

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that provides significant help to those in
need. The organization is a branch of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies. The organization s initial goals were to provide humanitarian efforts and other relief during
trying times. For example, many felt that the group was formed in response to the destruction caused
by the American Civil War. Founder and the group s first President, Clara Barton, believed that
America should be prepared for future catastrophes, but there was widespread doubt that the nation
would ever again experience anything as disastrous as the Civil War. Nonetheless, the organization

On the same note, the group provided relief when the 35 W bridge collapsed in Minnesota. It helped,
this past year, to rebuild houses that fell victim to California wildfires too. Post disaster aid comes in
many forms. Food relief, site clean up, site repair, blood donations, blood transfusions and other types
of medical aid are some of the forms of relief. Although, disaster reliefs and blood donations are
crucial in our society today; this is not the only type of service the Red Cross provides for us.
Red Cross has prepared people to save lives through health and safety education training for almost
fifty years. Red Cross provides classes and guidelines for lifeguarding. Not only does lifeguarding
save lives but it also helps financially by providing jobs for thousands around the country. Thanks to
Red Cross, paramedics across the country are saving lives and also making a living. All of these
paramedics and lifeguards with kids wouldn t be able to go to work if it weren t for the Red Cross s
babysitters training. The training prepares people to lead a safer and healthier life for young ones.
Nearly 11 million people enrolled in American Red Cross health and safety courses last year. The most
beautiful facet of the Red Cross is found in the group s target population. The most interesting aspect
of The American Red Cross s target population is that there is not necessarily a target population. In
other words, it does not

Disadvantages Of Satellites
SATELLITE SYSTEMS World s first satellite Sputnik successfully launched by USSR 1957. Number
of satellites has significantly increased to over 1,100 operational satellites, with over 2000 obsolete
satellites since the first launch. Satellites either orbit the earth as a geostationary or non geostationary.
Geostationary stationary in the sky above a fixed point on the surface. The increasing amount of old
satellites and space debris has risen concerns for collisions with current satellites. GLOBAL
POSITIONING SYSTEMS (GPS) Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems are used to determine
the exact location of a number of modes of transport (e.g., airplanes, cars, ships, etc). GPS works in 2
parts Satellites surrounding the Earth transmit signals to the surface. A network of satellites constantly
broadcast a time signal, including it s position and time; each satellite has an Atomic clock (used in the
satellites which are accurate clocks within a fraction of a second per day) which broadcasts the time
signal at the speed of light (about 299 792 458 m / s). The receiver then receives the signal, it can
usually receive signals from 6 to 8 of them, and compares the time it took each signal to travel from
the satellite to the receiver. By doing so, it is able to triangulate and determine it s position on earth,
quite accurately (within 5 and 50 metres). The computer on board the mode of transport calculates its
exact position based on the information from at least

Jack Kerouac is well known for saying, The best teacher is experience and not through someone s
distorted point of view . With such a vast and beautiful world to explore there are many important life
lessons one can learn while taking time away from school. Having to go out and survive on your own
can be a very fulfilling endeavor. Not attending college immediately after high school allowed me to
travel the country while realizing the importance of time and money management, living these

were seasonal. This means you have to make your money in a short amount of time, usually the
summer tourism season last a total of three months. This short season taught me the value of putting in
the work when the work is there. Even with all the planning in the world sometimes things are going
to end up differently than you expect. The fall of 2010 I would be heading back to Steamboat just as I
did the two previous years with the same plan and savings. All though this particular winter was not
cooperating as the previous seasons had. Everybody knows that betting on the weather is never a good
idea and this particular year I had made the wrong bet. The locals kept reassuring me that this was the
year of El Niña which meant a tremendous amount of snow for the year, the only downside to this is
that an El Niña winter likes to show up to the party late. For me that meant my budget calculations
would be off, while I had a job lined up at my previous place of employment it would not begin until
the ski mountain was open. This meant I had to find a job and fast, I took the bus down to the local

Indian Water Rights Settlement Essay
INTRODUCTION It s great to be here with you today. Talk about your perspective of working with
Reclamation in your role at the Interstate Stream Commission. Talk about your perspective of
Reclamation, what s it s like to be Commissioner, and any thoughts about your end of term. Today, I
would like to talk about: Reclamation s Present Role and Future Involvement with Indian water rights
settlements. And I would like to highlight a few of the settlements where Reclamation has been
actively engaged: o Taos Pueblo Water Rights Settlement, Hualapai Water Rights Settlement, and
Blackfeet Tribe Water Rights Settlement. Present Role and Future Involvement: This Administration
has strongly supported Indian water rights settlements and the water needs of tribal communities.
Indian water rights settlements are consistent with the federal trust responsibility to tribes and with
federal policy promoting Indian self determination and economic self sufficiency. As I have witnessed
here first hand, settlements can end decades of controversy and contention concerning water issues
among tribes and neighboring communities replacing those conflicts with certainty, fostering
cooperation in water resource management and promoting healthy economies. Thank you Jennifer
Faler, Art Valverde, Kathy Dickinson and Pat Page, for your work on the settlements. Reclamation
participates in settlements because of our Western water projects, and also because of the Bureau s

Quebec Nationalism Essay
Although Canada can be defined as a nation state, its vast landscape means many people are faced
with different views and mindsets. Source one simply shows the differences within the nation of
Canada. Eastern and Western Canada, because of their geographical differences, can be faced with
contending loyalties when it comes to some nations aspects of life. Different lifestyles under the same
set of government creates a physiological barrier between a nation. The source also shows the
differences in Quebec nationalism compared to the rest of Canada. Some groups like the FLQ or the
Front for Liberation of Quebec are known for their extremist views of Quebec nationalism. The small

The Mohawk that were protesting to protect their traditional land, were bombarded with thousands of
aggressive army members. The peaceful standoff turned violent and bloody when the army made
contact with the protesters. Both sides of the standoff would be faced with conflicting loyalties
because of their culture and nationalities. The Mohawk would be conflicted between defending
historical property or being nationalistic to Canada. In the same view, the army would want to follow
orders but could be conflicting between standing up against fellow Canadians. The source shows the
tension between the contending groups, but also shows how each party felt about the matter. Their
faces show the pain that is felt because of the land claim. When the government made the choice to
expand a golf course onto the Oka land, even after Mohawk people formed complaints, they were

Online Community
After searching through various online communities, I finally found one that looked very interesting
and informative to me, fitness.com. I chose an online community in which I would not only gain
helpful information and advice, but I could also communicate with people who are interested in the
same topic as I am. I knew right away that it was a community rather than just a typical webpage that
someone had made. A community has places where people can post messages on a discussion board, a
chat room for people to talk instantly to one another, and a place where people can go to anytime of
the day to post messages. The site was available for anyone that was interested in fitness or nutrition
facts. The online ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also articles that would help anyone with the questions they have about nutrition and/or
fitness. They gave out important information for almost every topic. I looked up a particular article
titled, Advantages through Fitness Training. It stated that injuries can be prevented through fitness
activity and it even motivated me to go to UREC, (the campus gym,) that day. Many other articles
were also helpful, especially about nutrition. The Fit Tips also provided me with quick little health and
fitness advice and information, which helped me to remember certain things about fitness and
nutrition.
Although there were many advantages to the articles, test, and fit tips, there were some disadvantages
to the online community. The different discussion boards were not very useful. At times, people would
mock those who were asking serious questions and looking for serious advice. Occasionally, people
would respond with helpful information, but not very often. A lot of the things people said were
repetitive and not worth the time reading it. When I posted a question on the Nutrition Board, I did not
get positive feedback at all. One guy called me a moron, and another person told me things that I knew
already. Being called a moron did not make me want to continue going to the site. It showed that some

Mexican Peso Case Study Essay
1. Take a look at Mexico s balance of payments over the past few years. Use the schedule I have
attached to the case it is in the same format as we used to examine the U.S. balance of payments. What
do the trade and current account balances suggest about the likelihood of a potential devaluation of the
peso? Why? a. It suggests that because Mexico is importing twice as much as they are exporting that
there is a strong chance that the peso will lose value to counter the constant increase in imports. It is
also important to point out that the exports in 1974 and 1975 are practically the same. The current
account balance is negative 4 billion U.S. dollars which is 4 times larger than it was in 1972. All this
leads me to believe that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The increase in reserves is them trying to prevent or delay the devaluation. From just this data alone
however I would not believe that the peso is at risk of being devaluated. 5. Take a look at Exhibit 7
and the forward discounts on the peso versus the dollar. On June 18, what did the market think the
peso was likely to do over the next three months? On August 27, what did the market think the peso
was likely to do versus the dollar over the next three months? Between June and August, what was the
market saying about the magnitude and/or probability of a devaluation of the peso over the next three
months? a. On June 18th it was believed that over a 3 month period that the peso would depreciate
20% vs. the U.S. dollar and on August 27th it was believed that the peso would only depreciate 9.08%
over the same time frame. During that time frame the market thought there was a less and less chance
that the peso was going to get devaluated. 6. Look at the commercial bank lending rates to prime
borrowers in Exhibit 8. Based on these nominal prime borrowing rates, would you expect the peso to
appreciate or depreciate against the dollar and by how much? Why? a. If using the December
1975lending rates, the peso would depreciate against the dollar by 5.9% because Mexico s interest rate
is nearly twice as high as the United States . 7. What should be the PPP Mexican

On March 22, 1925 Tennessee passed the Butler Act. Making it unlawful in public schools to teach
any theory that denies the story of divine creation as taught by the Bible. But to teach instead that man
was descended from a lower order of animals. It was in the small town of Dayton, Tennessee where a
24 year old fresh out of college , high school substitute named John Scopes taught the theory of
evolution to a biology class. This was just two months after the passing of the Butler Act. John Scopes
was then charged with teaching evolution in public school. The proceeding trial will not only become

Target market
During the launch of their new product, the brand had to communicate the right message to the target
markets. After qualitative analysis, the firms decided to focus on 3 main targets: * First time mother
with baby aged between 4 to 12 months:
Why? The first time mothers were sensitive and more protective and hence their focus will be on
making the right choice for their babies in the selection of products and also since they represent a
large market in Australia.
Objective: Create brand awareness and emotional attachment to the brand; build strong relationship
with the mum to enhance loyalty.
* Second time mother with at least one child under 12 month:
Why? They represent a large target market in Australia, since there is a lack of choice in the baby food
category there was an opportunity to offer the market a good reason to switch their brand
Objective: Make them switch brand and create loyalty to Golden Circle through creation of emotional
connection with mothers.

One subject that I would like to elaborate on is my high school transcript. While I have maintained at
least a 4.0 throughout my career thus far, that is evident through the rest of my application. What the
application fails to elaborate on is the adversity that was faced during part of my high school career.
During the summer break of my junior year, I decided to take on the challenge of a college course,
American History to 1877, in order to help eliminate the phenomena of summer learning loss. While
this proved to be difficult with such a busy schedule, I was put my organization and management

The Chernobyl Disaster And The Fukushima Nuclear Disaster
Uranium, which is the ninety second element on the periodic table, is a very interesting element. The
radioactive uranium is used in atomic bombs. Also, people use it in what is called nuclear power, an
energy source that fourteen percent of the world uses. (NPR 3) In a nuclear power plant, a process
called fission that uses uranium is used to generate power. During fission, each uranium atom is
bombarded by neutrons, causing each uranium atom to turn into one atom of barium, one atom of
krypton, and three neutrons. These three neutrons bombard other uranium atoms, resulting in more
neutrons being produced and creating a chain reaction. Each time the uranium atom split, energy is
released. The leftover atoms are called nuclear waste. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I mentioned before, uranium is used in atomic bombs. So, uranium mines are very dangerous and
nuclear power is not safe. Right? I disagree. Uranium mines have created ways to reduce radiation
levels to their workers whenever they can and limits as how much radiation is allowed in a uranium
mine. Also, people have spent over forty years already creating safety regulations for uranium mines.
Finally, there is not enough uranium in a uranium mine for either of those to blow up like an atomic
bomb. (World Nuclear Association 4) As a result of these safety protections during uranium mining,
there has only been 371 deaths due to uranium mining contamination between 1950 and 2000, which
is an average of around only 7.42 deaths per year. (Motherboard 2) In comparison, coal mining had an
average of 16 deaths per year in 2014. (MSHA

Exporting democracy? Democracy Promotion by the EU and Democratization via Eastern European
Partnership
With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States and many other
developed countries have begun to pay more attention to their policy of democracy promotion in the
countries of the former communist bloc. As ex President Clinton declared in his second State of the
Union address in 1995, Ultimately, the best strategy to ensure our security and to build a durable peace
is to support the advance of democracy elsewhere followed by his rhetoric, utopian statement, The
world s greatest democracy will lead a whole world of democracies.
Here will be provided a definition of democracy promotion, name of some of the promoters, and list
the goals of democracy promotion.
Do Western democracy promoters seek to protect basic civil and political liberties or do they aim to
promote state interests under the disguise of democracy ?
As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union, new independent states were emerged and it was the
time for the European Union (EU) to stretch towards its eastern neighbor countries in order to build
relationships and bring them closer to the EU by promoting democracy. Alongside with the
democratization of non western countries, the primary goals of the EU was to establish a political
community, to deepen and strengthen free trade zones, and as well as to abolish the visa regime within
those eastern countries. In

The Philosophy Of Plato s Philosophy
Ethics? Philosophy? What do these two words mean? Living life the right way? Always doing what
parents instruct? Some people walk through the motions of life and never fully understand what living
is really about it is more than paying bills, earning an education, and having a family. By definition,
philosophy is: a search for a general understanding of values and reality by chiefly speculative rather
than observational means .1 Humankind has studied philosophy for many years trying to figure out the
complex meaning of life, an example being Plato one of the greatest Greek philosophers. Philosophy
can be very complicated, but life is a beautiful thing (Thesis statement).

Socrates did this to show them the difference between truth and what they felt to be true; he would
help them see the truth despite their ideas possibly being incorrect 9 (Ethics for life, 13). Most of the

toward Socrates. Eventually they tried Socrates, found him guilty of impiety and demeaning the youth,
and executed him in 399 BCE. The reason why the Greeks thought Socrates was corrupting the youth
is because he said the gods of Greece were unreliable and lacking 11(Ancient). Plato was emotionally
affected by the life and death of Socrates. Socrates work influence Plato so much, he surrounded
himself with members of Socrates and became a member himself. Plato s work was generally stated as

strategy to ultimately adopting the commitment strategy. The discussion below considers his

how the workforce is managed at the Slade Company. By highlighting elements of their approach used

was up, and having a co worker clock out for them. Otto was also not able to control how workers
interpersonal relations and their performance. There were informal groups created and in the case of
the group led by Tony Sarto, they interacted mostly among themselves, to the detriment of division
and against what was the norm within the company. For instance, when the group did overtime on the
weekends, they operated as a team regardless of work assignments (Slade, p.3). The hierarchy
mechanism was also flawed because, Otto s brother, Herman Schell lacked proper supervision. This is
compounded by the fact that all of the 38 workers in the plating division had to be overseen by one
person, without support. Within a control organization there is also the notion that work is mainly to
get a fair day s pay for a fair day s work; managers see workers as a variable cost (Walton, p.78). At
Slade this was evident in how workers were perceived and compensated. They were paid $1.25 an
hour for 60 hours a week and were paid at the overtime rate for hours exceeding then normal 60 hours.

management viewed workers as a variable cost. It shows how workers are ranked and considers their

the answers to these questions? Easy. Think way, way back, not to prehistoric times but close, 1928.
Popular With Children, Unpopular with Parents and Teachers. The first known bubble gum appeared
in 1906, and was a dud. Known as Blibber Blubber, it was sticky, brittle, and insufficiently cohesive.
In 1928, an accountant, Walter Diemer, invented an improved version of bubble gum. The only food
coloring he had on hand was pink, so for many years, pink was the common color of bubble gums.
Diemer arranged to market the bubble gum in Philadelphia candy stores and the product became
wildly popular with children. Fleer Company purchased the recipe, ... Show more content on

snuff users. The chewing gums served as a drug delivery system for nicotine. By the late 1980s, anti
smoking efforts of health professionals and increasingly stringent regulations against smoking in
public places created a new market for nicotine containing gums. Such medicinal gums might help in
nicotine withdrawal. The objective was to have the addicted smoker chew rather than smoke, with the
hope that eventually the person would become a non smoker and a non chewer at least, a non nicotine
chewer. Bubble gum as a dietary supplement delivery system is relatively new. One advertisement

Presidential Vs. Parliamentary Systems Of Government
There has always been a debate over which form of government is the most stable. For a long time,
there was either a choice (within democratic models) of presidential systems of government, in which
the executive is all powerful, or parliamentary systems of government, where the legislature is the
supreme power. However, in the past century, a middle ground has emerged between the two: semi
presidential systems of government. Semi presidential systems, as defined by Maurice Duverger (an
early writer on such models), are systems where a president of the republic, elected by universal
suffrage and given personal powers, co exists with a government resting on the confidence placed in it
by parliament . This means that semi presidential models of government generally have a directly
elected president and parliament, along with a prime minister, who is appointed. The question of
whether these systems are more or less stable than presidential or parliamentary then becomes the
focus, and must be looked at in practice for this measure. Semi presidential systems, as seen in France
and Russia, can at times be either very stable or very unstable, depending on the composition of a
particular government. France, a pioneer in the concept of semi presidential systems, has seen stability
go either way, depending on the affiliation of elected officials. Conflict started occurring in the late
twentieth century that challenged the stability of the current French system. Russia, since the

The Influence Of Political Parties In The United States
At first, the constitution was for a non partisan president because it was intended to play the leading
institutional role in checking and controlling violence of faction that the framers feared would rend the
fabric of representative democracy (Nelson, 295). In the early nineteenth century, the president of the
United States is nominated by a party (Nelson, 296). The understanding of a solid relation between a
president and his party began to be understood and was implemented in the political parties that
whatever party a president was in. For example, Roosevelt was very keen at this that he demonstrated
a solid and aggressive partisan effort, and his effort on this put a different and progressed idea that was

He actually argues that modern presidents expanded their influence by undercutting or ignoring the
role of political parties. Even Roosevelt tried to minimize the effect of political parties. It is interesting
and produces a question why presidents would like to minimize the influence of the political parties.
Also, this action confronts to the American liberalism that the American Liberalism shifts to left. In
addition to this, George W. Bush and Barack Obama are considered to threaten the integrity of
political parties as collective organizations with a past and a future (Nelson, 329). On the contrast, I
would like to give an example on a president in here that he would be positive and has a good idea and
understanding of a perfect collaboration between a president and a political party. He is Bill Clinton.
The general election in 1992, Bill Clinton was very positive and worked hard with his party to make a

Theme Of Mariam In A Thousand Splendid Suns
In Khaled Hosseini s novel A Thousand Splendid Suns he presents the different aspects of Mariams
childhood through the interactions she has with the people in her life. Her interactions with Nana show
the effects if being raised a harami, with Jalil show her isolation and her naive attitude, with Mullah
Faizullah her piety and with Jalil s wives the reality of her poverty and low social status. This collates
to portray a miserable childhood, with religion (and Mullah Faizullah) as her only source of comfort
and happiness. Hosseini presents Mariam s childhood as revolving around the fact she is an
illegitimate child, her mother Nana was a housekeeper for a rich, married bussiness man Jalil. In the
first chapter Nana refers to Mariam as a harami a title frequently brought up in the novel to show the
massie impact t has on her life and that Mariam can neve escape being a bastard. Although Mariam
doesn t fully understand what it means in this chapter, she realises that it was an ugly, loathsome thing
to be a harami, like an insect . Hosseini uses the similie like an insect to show how because of her
illegitimacy Mariam is worthless and an inconvinience to others. The adjectives ugly and loathsome
emphasise Mariam s upsetting childhood and her feelings of inadequecy and repulsiveness. In Afghan
society generally having children out of wedlock is seen as a disgrace and the illegitimate children are
often considered as lower class. Later in the novel Nana recalls how she was removed from Jalil s
household and how he built them the Kolba they live in, which Nana refers to as a rathole . Hosseini
uses the semantic field of animals rathole , insect and cockroach to convey to the reader how deprived
Mariam s childhood is as a result of her being a harami, she is viewed as vermin throughout her
childhood. This relationship with Nana, who resents Mariam culminates in Nana s suicide, which
marks the end of Mariam s childhood and naivety. After returning from sleeping outside Jalil s home
she witnesses The rope dropping fom a high branch. Nana dangling at the end of it . The verb dangling
could be being used by Hosseini as it creates a tone of carelessness possibly reflecting the careless

It s Not A Moment Of Perfect American Moral Clarity

A: I agree with Jenkins statement of It s not a moment of perfect American moral clarity because
Efimova did not mean for the medication she took to stay in her system for a long period of time.
Widely shaming Efimova at the Rio Olympics because she took suggested medication a while back
was not right on the American swimmer King and audiences parts. When the American swimmer
Jessica Hardy had taken a enhancement that was forbidden she was not treated as an outsider. When
stories are misinterpreted or manipulated that should not turn to shamming other people, especially if
you do not know the entire actuality. What King perhaps did not recognize was that Efimova had went
to her physician and was recommended medicine that would potentially help her heart and general
health. Europeans trust that too much severe training can damage your well being. Going back to
WADA s outlawing of Meldonium, she very well might have obeyed the guidelines, but the truth
being, there is no certain amount of time it takes for the medication to get out of your system. B:

Examples Of Racism In The Movie Crash

quote from Simon Braund with the website Empire, that specialises in movie reviews; A haunting,
perceptive and uncompromising examination of controversial subject matter... (Braund). I personally,
was left in tears and had an overflow of emotions by the time the film ended. Crash , had many
examples of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination, that live in our societies today; and the
struggles that come along with them. To begin, one thing I immediately noticed about this film; was
the amount of social constructs that were shown. When taking notes, it felt like my penil never left the
paper as I wrote down all the things I saw. The amount of racism that is present is just overwhelming.
The first example of this shown in the movie, was when Farhad, and his Daughter Dorri, who are both
Persian; are attempting to purchase a handgun. The shopkeeper becomes frustrated when they begin to
speak in a foreign language. He then refuses to let Farhad buy a gun, gets extremely loud and forces
him out of the store. Also very plentiful in the film; stereotyping. Within the first five minutes, there
was already a dispute; between Ria, who is a Latina woman and an Asian woman who was unnamed.

women can t drive. This was very offensive as to define Ria by her race, but also because she is not

Affirmative Action Plan
To understand the reasoning or drive behind an organization implementing a voluntary affirmative
action plan it is important to understand what such a plan might entail. An affirmative action plan is
different than the basic Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and guidelines. EEO laws are
designed to ensure that employers do not use race, gender, or religion when viewing a person s job
qualifications or performance (Bernardin Russell, 2013). Affirmative action plans work a step further
to establish practices and procedures that aim to recruit and promote diversity and inclusion of
individuals traditionally under represented or historically viewed as disadvantaged groups

The World War I Ended
In late June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated. A rise of threats and
mobilization orders followed the event, leading to the outbreak of World War I, which pitted Germany,
Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire (the so called Central Powers) against Great Britain,
France, Russia, Italy and Japan (the Allied Powers). The Allies were joined after 1917 by the United
States. The four years of the Great War as it was then known saw unprecedented levels of carnage and
destruction, thanks to grueling trench warfare and the introduction of modern weaponry such as
machine guns, tanks and chemical weapons. By the time World War I ended in the defeat of the
Central Powers in November 1918, more than 9 million soldiers had been killed and 21 million more
wounded. New weapons revolutionized combat in World War One.
Combat morphed from a rapid, noble and relatively ephemeral thing to a new model: trench warfare.
There were many wars before the Great War, or World War 1. The Revolutionary war and The Civil
War were the two major wars before the occurrence of World War 1. Both of these wars produced
many casualties. During The Civil, at least 618,000 Americans died. Today, The Civil War still has the
greatest number of American casualties than any other war. Another major war prior to the First World
War was the American Revolution. During this time there was approximately 50,000 dead or wounded
American soldiers.

Claudio Monteverdi And Classical Music

In his paper I ll be talking Claudio Monteverdi, an Italian composer, string player and choirmaster

also worked as a choirmaster. A pioneer in the development of opera and crucial figure in both of these

John Keats s Life Of Poetry
Like many poets, John Keats has had a very troubling and traumatic life and it shows in his writings of
poetry. Death and many other awful troubles causing him to have a life that anyone would feel
horrible in. John Keat s poetry has many dark recurring themes. One speculation is that his poetry was
an escape from his melancholy filled life. There are many aspects to Keats s life that could have been
motivation to write his poetry. One would say that he connected works of poetry with the events of his
life.
John Keats was on born October 31st 1795 in Moorgate, London. His parents went by the name of
Thomas and Francis Keats. He was the oldest of four children. Keats was described as a volatile
character, always in extremes , given to indolence and fighting. However, at 13 he began focusing his
energy on reading and study, winning his first academic prize in midsummer 1809. He was very bright
for his age. Keats s first tragedy took place when he was just eight years, In April of 1804 John s
father died of a skull fracture from a horse accident. Keats s was very distraught about his father s
death. He became even more confused when his mother instantly married. Only about 6 years his
mother passed away from falling ill to tuberculosis. Keats was only 15 years old. Keats nursed his
mom until death. Because he was so close with his mom before his death Keats became very
distraught over his mother s death. Death of one s parents at an early age can easily put one s state of

The Grail As A Symbol Of Divine Grace
The Holy Grail is the mystical cup that Christ used at the last supper and it is believed that it holds
special powers. The Grail was considered to be a bowl or dish when first described by Chrétien de
Troyes (Holy Grail Crystalinks). Hélinand of Froidmont described the Grail as a wide and deep saucer
(O Neal 79). Other authors had their own ideas: Robert de Boron portrayed it as the vessel of the Last
Supper; and Peredur had no Grail per se, presenting the hero instead with a platter containing his
kinsman s bloody, severed head (Holy Grail Crystalinks). In Parzival, Wolfram von Eschenbach, citing
the authority of a certain (probably fictional) Kyot the Provençal, claimed the Grail was a stone that
fell from Heaven, and had been the sanctuary of the Neutral Angels who took neither side during
Lucifer s rebellion. The authors of the Vulgate Cycle used the Grail as a symbol of divine grace.
Galahad, illegitimate son of Lancelot and Elaine, the world s greatest knight and the Grail Bearer at
the castle of Corbenic, is destined to achieve the Grail, his spiritual purity making him a greater
warrior than even his illustrious father. Galahad and the interpretation of the Grail involving him were
picked up in the 15th century by Sir Thomas Malory in Le Morte d Arthur, and remain popular today.
The Grail is first featured in Perceval, le Conte du Graal (The Story of the Grail) by Chrétien de
Troyes, who claims he was working from a source book given to him by his patron,

What Are Macros And How Are They Implemented
What are Macros and how are they implemented in Excel?
A macro is an automated data sequence that imitates keystrokes or mouse actions. Macros are
typically used to replace a repetitive series of keyboard and mouse actions and are common in
spreadsheet and word processing applications like MS Excel and MS Word. The file extension of a
macro is commonly known as MAC. (Beal)The concept of macros is well known among Massively
Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games and Search Engine Optimization specialists. (Vermaat) A
macro in computer science is either a rule or a pattern. It is specific to how a certain input sequence
should be mapped in a replacement output sequence according to a defined procedure. In a mapping
process, the macro transforms its use into a specific sequence also known as the asmacro expansion.
(Vermaat) When writing a macro, a facility may be provided as part of a software application or as a

Clinical Audits in Nursing
Introduction
As the recommendation has been established as best practice this chapter will propose a clinical audit
to review the extent to which the recommendation is applied in practice. Practitioners have a
responsibility to continually improve their standards of care (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2010).
Clinical audits are a valuable tool for professionals to monitor their current practice and promote
improvements in care (Benjamin, 2008).
What is a clinical audit?
A clinical audit is a quality improvement process which aims to improve care through a systematic
review of practice against evidenced based criteria, followed by the implementation of change
(Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership, 2011). There are many different audit cycles to choose
from which could be confusing for practitioners (Dixon Pearce, 2011). The audit cycle pictured below
(figure1) was selected as a bases for this project because it is simple to use and emphasises the
importance of maintaining improvements.
Figure 1
(Benjamin, 2008)
Why do a clinical audit?
The purpose of a clinical audit is to improve the quality of care in the NHS (Healthcare Quality
Improvement Partnership, 2011). To assist practitioners in changing practice to match the rapidly
evolving evidence base guidelines are issued by organisations such as NICE (Fineout Overholt
Melnyk, 2011). However there is often a gap between recommended practice and current practice
which leads to lower quality care (Courtney

Summary Of Alfred Hitchcock s Rope
Film innovator and auteur Alfred Hitchcock is renowned for his genius in building tension, fear and
suspense throughout his films. Hitchcock used visual cinema techniques including cinematography,
symbolism and colour in films such as Rope and Vertigo to invoke a response from his audience.
Hitchcock wanted us to identify with the psychological and physical situations that his protagonists
and antagonists experience.
In Rope, Hitchcock uses innovative cinematography techniques so that the audience feel as if they are
a part of the unfolding drama. The camera work is choreographed so that the action is filmed in one
continuous shot. In this way, in Rope Hitchcock attempted to create the effect of a live stage show.
The effect of the real time footage has the result upon the audience of a constant unrelenting sense of
uncertainty and suspense that anything could happen at any time, such as a dinner guest opening the
chest containing the body of David. Because the audience is constantly on edge, their reactions, such
as fear, are heightened. The camera journeys through the unfolding drama in a point of view style that
is immediate and personal in terms of the characters and objects Hitchcock wants his audience to see.
This camera movement not only gives the audience a sense of involvement, but creates a sensation of
unease and claustrophobia in their minds. Due to the close up cinematography, the audience becomes
drawn into the film, feeling as if they are experiencing the

The blessings listed in The Beatitudes exemplify the importance and the moral obligation Americans
have towards immigrants fleeing injustice. For example, Jesus proclaims, Blessed are the merciful, for
they will receive mercy (Mathew 5:7). The countless individuals who are fleeing arms traffickers,
gang violence and poverty, most of which are women and children, must be met with mercy (Yee,
Davis, Patel 2017). For many migrants, the United States is the deciding factor in their chance at
receiving mercy. The United States must approach immigration with mercy, compassion, and empathy,
not with antagonism and hostility. The authors of the article give a merciful description of immigrants
as, families and workers, taking the jobs nobody else wants, staying out of trouble, here only to earn
their way to better, safer lives for themselves and their children (Yee, Davis, Patel 2017). This
visualization of immigration is the more humane approach the United States government must take.
On the contrary, the current White House administration perceives undocumented immigrants as
pariahs, criminals who menace American neighborhoods, take American jobs, sap American resources

Children At A Local Fitness Center
For my observations, I interviewed Penny who teaches gymnastics to children at a local fitness center.
She teaches classes every Friday and Saturday to children ranging from 2 14 years old. I observed her
multiple times and recorded 6 hours of observations. After talking to Penny Lane, I found out she did
gymnastics as a child at her local fitness center. She was a student for there for about 8 years, while
growing up. Then while she was in high school she was asked to teach for students at her fitness
center. She enjoyed it so much that when she moved up to Bellingham, she asked the fitness center in
town if she could teach some lessons. At the time, no one was teaching gymnastics and the fitness
center said that she could teach. She was able to create her own lesson plans and has been working at
this location for 2 years. This is how she was able to get involved with this type of work. She did
mention a few struggles with the job such as the fitness center does not have a lot of funding and that
sometimes hinders the lessons and she explained that older students tend to drop out and go
somewhere else. When I asked her how she felt about her work she said that it was easy and fun. She
really enjoys working with kids and feels comfortable teaching gymnastics. She wants to keep this job
throughout her schooling because she wants to be an elementary school teacher once she graduates
from college. She doesn t make very much money so, I would say based off of my observations

Nitric Oxide Lab Report
Nitric Oxide is essential for penile erection. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is associated with reduced NO
synthesis or reduced release in the erectile tissue. The isoforms of NOS, eNOS and nNOS mediate
penile erection. These isoforms are regulated by NOS cofactors, calcium, calcium binding protein
calmodulin, oxygen and reduced NADPH. After the increase in intercellular calcium production, NO
is generated in low amounts. Upon neural depolarization in nNOS containing nerve terminal in penis,
neural NO is released. Similarly, upon local neurogenic stimulation, nerves in contact with the
endothelium, eNOS is liberated. Shear Stress, the mechanical forces of blood flow on the vascular
lining also releases NO from eNOS. Further investigation also ... Show more content on

The blood flow to organs is reduced, one organ may be effected earlier than the other, but eventually
all the organs like the heart, eyes, skin and nerves exhibit the signs of reduced blood flow. In order to
protect the organ from deterioration the blood flow should be restored back to its normal levels or at
least delay the process of decreased blood flow. Nitric Oxide (NO) is the body s natural vasodilator,
but the problem is, in diabetic patients NO is way below the normal levels. So, it is produced 50% less
when compared to a healthy individual. One way to effectively solve this problem is by increasing the
oxygen levels. Oxygen is critical for NO production. In diabetic patients, not enough oxygen is
available to activate NO because of poor circulation to organs such as nerves and skin. In addition to
this, the generation of ATP is also diminished and acidosis (high amounts of acid is produced) occurs.
NO production diminishes when high amounts of acid are formed. The only other way to produce NO
is to use the readily available NO that is stored in RBCs. Anodyne Therapy System (ATS) is a drug
free way to accomplish NO production from RBCs. This therapy uses infrared light that penetrates
deep into tissues, as a result, NO is made. Once No is made available it helps increase the reduced

Operation Underground Railroad Analysis
Based on the U.S. State Department s reports around 600,000 to 800,000 people are being trafficked
across international borders every year as of 2005 (PBS). These numbers need to change, and there are
multiple organizations trying to make a change, it is possible for these numbers to change drastically
with the help of social media. If activist and organizations could use social media effectively, social
and economic issues would change drastically. Despite the fact that Operation Underground Railroad
uses social media , the activist Laurie Holden, and the organization itself does not seem to incite its
audience to get actively involved in the cause because it does not give much direction for how, where,
or when to take action. Operation Underground Railroad was founded in 2013 by Tim Ballard who
was a former CIA agent. Operation Underground Railroad is a non profit organization designed to
extract children from sex trafficking, and bring an end to child slavery. This organization partners and
operates directly with law enforcement throughout the world to help make this possible. (OUR.) As of
right now Operation Underground Railroad is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A movie about their organization, what it is doing, and stories of the children is a great way to spread
the word about their organization. The Abolitionists is a story about the lost children and Operation
Underground Railroad s efforts to rescue them around the world (OUR). Despite the fact that
Operation Underground Railroad does not have a major following right now, their organization has
rescued a lot of kids and they will hopefully continue to recue more. The release of The Abolitionist is
a great strategic move, and will hopefully incite it s audience to get actively involved in the
organization, and provide them with direction in how, when, and where to get involved, to better our

The ultimate goal of ethical theory is to achieve human dignity, peace, happiness, and well being. But
these goals are somewhat vague and can be interpreted differently in different situations under certain
circumstances. So to make the things less complex, we try to define a sphere of freedom in which
people can act and make decisions freely without interference from others. So natural rights defines
ethical theory as a set of actions that respects fundamental rights of others, including the rights to life,
liberty, and property. Natural rights can be categorized in two different

Essay The History of Fair Trade
Fair trade can be defined as a social movement thats objective is to help producers in developing
countries make better trading conditions and elevate sustainability. Fair trade is contrasting to the
other trade practices in our world, its about making codes of fairness in the marketplace. The practice
of fair trade seeks to reshape the way we buy and sell products to verify that all farmers and skilled
workers behind the manufacturing of goods get a better deal. Most people would assume this as a
better means for prices, however can include better and longer lasting relationships. Fair trade is also
about information, having the knowledge as to where are food/products are coming from, and having
the knowledge that all products were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the fair trade movement was majorly shaped in the years following WWII. The Mennonite
Central Committee and SERRV International were the first in 1946 to develop fair trade supply chains
in developing countries. The products were mostly sold by volunteers in charity stores. North
Americas first fair trade organization started in 1946 also, Ten Thousand Villages. Later in 1988, the
launch of the first fair trade label (Max Havelaar) was created under the initiative of a Dutch
development agency. The Max Havelaar label was further replicated in several markets in Europe and
North America. In 1989 the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT) was the first umbrella
organization to unite and coordinate fair trade business and organizations. They became the first
organization to commit to fair trade 100%. Later in 1997 the Fairtrade International (FLO) was
established, this was the second major umbrella organization for fair trade. However the FLO does not
require fair trade on 100% of its members or products. Later in 2004, Fairtrade international split into
two independent organizations, FLO which sets fair trade standards, and producer support, and FLO
CERT, which inspects and certifies producer organizations. Today fair trade has developed into
something much more, the global sales have soared over the past decade. This proves that fair trade is
actually making a difference in our world, a little bit at a time.

Change In Linear
Change in linear. It s a consequence of moving forward. You can have positive and negative effects,
sometimes no effects at all. Change is unpredictable. The texts I have chosen to analyse are the poem,
All the world s a stage by William Shakespeare which explores the change during different parts of
one man s life and the stages he goes through. The second text is the movie Star Trek (2009) is a sci fi
themed movie about a rebellious young man named James T. Kirk whose life was changed by the faith
of a Starfleet captain who sees in the rash youth the special qualities that a member of Starfleet must
possess to succeed in the challenging and often dangerous world their profession puts them in. I
believe that the texts I have chosen display ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In All the world s a stage Shakespeare writes of a man who has a negative attitude towards growing up
and life in general. This is shown through the negative words that Shakespeare uses to describe his
life. For instance: even at the earliest stage, At first the infant, mewling and puking in the nurse s arms
is shown being bad? Analyse the quote, write the effect. Why did Shakespeare write it like this? Due
to the man s attitude toward change and growing up he experiences life at its worst, remembering only
the bad experiences. In contrast Star Treks entire franchise is based on learning news ideas, embracing
different cultured, moving forward and accepting change. It s only when you look closer you see
individuals that are struggling the accept change or try to become better. We see this in James T. Kirks
beginning when he lives in Iowa and is basically a drop out with no prospects though really smart.
Kirks own change over a short period of time results in him being an overall better person, Kirk s
attitude towards change is a determined positive one, as seen in his hearing, I don t believe in no win
scenarios where Kirk changes a no win test so it s winnable. Kirk changes also had a tragic backstory,
his father dying when he young and living with an abusive step father. The previous texts character
did not have the excuse of a tragic backstory and yet he still looked on the world with disgust. Kirk

Essay About Snow White
There have been numerous different versions and different interpretations in both writing and on film
of the story known by most as Snow White . These different variations all have a universal theme and
storyline in common with one another. This specific version of the familiar fairytale is that of the
Grimm brothers, the two brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their story Little Snow White
in 1812. This story by the Grimm brothers has a twist towards the ending when it is compared to the
version that most are familiar with, made popular by the Disney film Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfes . In addition to an alternate ending, it is also necessary to realize that in the story of Snow
White, there is more to look at and understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this step is where Snow White begins to make decisions on her own and accept the fact that there
will be consequences for each and every action that she makes. After the huntsman defies the
stepmother s order of killing Snow White and allows her to run off into the woods, it allows Snow
White to be independent. This new found independency of Snow White is comparable to The Heroine
s Journey when Murdock states The heroine crossed the threshold, leaves the safety of her parents
home, and goes in search of herself. (90). Murdock explains that there will be challenges and adversity
for the heroine to struggle through, from both the outside world but also battle within herself. The next
in the road of trials comes when the stepmother and Snow White have their first encounter after the
stepmother attempted to kill Snow White for the first time. The stepmother realizes the huntsman
betrayed her when she receives the response of the mirror stating You, my queen, are fair; it is true.
But Snow White, beyond the mountains With the seven dwarfs, Is still a thousand times fairer than
you. (Paragraph 45). This both shocks and infuriates the stepmother because she still was not the most
beautiful woman of them all. There is a need for the stepmother to have Snow White dead, so she can
have all the attention of the King and this connects to the myth of romantic love in The Heroine s
Journey. The stepmother has the mindset of If I find the right man I ll be happy... I won t have to
figure out what I want to do. I can simply live his life and this is why she needs Snow White dead
(107). With Snow White dead then it would allow the stepmother to have a sense of fulfillment in her
life. The first occurrence where the stepmother attempts to kill Snow White is done so where Snow
White is deceived by the stepmother who was disguised as an old lady selling lace. The stepmother
ends up tying the lace

  • 2. Irish Hibernophobia Though most Irish emigrants left their homes in search of a better lives free from persecution, those who settled in the United States typically found equal levels of persecution yet, chose to remain stateside because of the opportunities for work and the new found sense of community among Irish immigrants in the United States. The first immigrant to enter the United States through Ellis Island, Annie Moore, was a 15 year old from County Cork. Since the colonial times, Irish immigrants have been ever present in the United States; however, also ever present is hibernophobia, or anti Irish sentiment. From the Norman Invasion in the late 12th century until the formation of the Irish Free State in 1922, Ireland was either under direct English rule or subject to direct British political involvement. Under British rule, the Irish were stereotyped as stupid, half human savages and later, as lazy, idle drunkards (Judd). Not so much changed in terms of hibernophobia for those who left Ireland for the United States. In fact, several new stereotypes were born. The Irish were again labeled lazy drunkards, an ironic stereotype because of the contradicting occupational stereotypes of the Irish being policemen, lawyers, firefighters, and bartenders which are well paying, steady jobs that could not be held by lazy drunkards. The Irish were also stereotyped as violent because of the prevalence of usually criminal gangs such as the Dead Rabbits and The Westies and events such as Bloody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Community Resource Paper Community Resource Assignment The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that provides significant help to those in need. The organization is a branch of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The organization s initial goals were to provide humanitarian efforts and other relief during trying times. For example, many felt that the group was formed in response to the destruction caused by the American Civil War. Founder and the group s first President, Clara Barton, believed that America should be prepared for future catastrophes, but there was widespread doubt that the nation would ever again experience anything as disastrous as the Civil War. It helped, this past year, to rebuild houses that fell victim to California wildfires too. Post disaster aid comes in many forms. Food relief, site clean up, site repair, blood donations, blood transfusions and other types of medical aid are some of the forms of relief. Although, disaster reliefs and blood donations are crucial in our society today; this is not the only type of service the Red Cross provides for us. Red Cross has prepared people to save lives through health and safety education training for almost fifty years. Red Cross provides classes and guidelines for lifeguarding. Not only does lifeguarding save lives but it also helps financially by providing jobs for thousands around the country. Thanks to Red Cross, paramedics across the country are saving lives and also making a living. All of these paramedics and lifeguards with kids wouldn t be able to go to work if it weren t for the Red Cross s babysitters training. The training prepares people to lead a safer and healthier life for young ones. Nearly 11 million people enrolled in American Red Cross health and safety courses last year. The most beautiful facet of the Red Cross is found in the group s target population. The most interesting aspect of The American Red Cross s target population is that there is not necessarily a target population. In other words, it does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Disadvantages Of Satellites SATELLITE SYSTEMS World s first satellite Sputnik successfully launched by USSR 1957. Number of satellites has significantly increased to over 1,100 operational satellites, with over 2000 obsolete satellites since the first launch. Satellites either orbit the earth as a geostationary or non geostationary. Geostationary stationary in the sky above a fixed point on the surface. The increasing amount of old satellites and space debris has risen concerns for collisions with current satellites. GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEMS (GPS) Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems are used to determine the exact location of a number of modes of transport (e.g., airplanes, cars, ships, etc). GPS works in 2 parts Satellites surrounding the Earth transmit signals to the surface. A network of satellites constantly broadcast a time signal, including it s position and time; each satellite has an Atomic clock (used in the satellites which are accurate clocks within a fraction of a second per day) which broadcasts the time signal at the speed of light (about 299 792 458 m / s). The receiver then receives the signal, it can usually receive signals from 6 to 8 of them, and compares the time it took each signal to travel from the satellite to the receiver. By doing so, it is able to triangulate and determine it s position on earth, quite accurately (within 5 and 50 metres). The computer on board the mode of transport calculates its exact position based on the information from at least ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With such a vast and beautiful world to explore there are many important life lessons one can learn while taking time away from school. Not attending college immediately after high school allowed me to travel the country while realizing the importance of time and money management, living these realities helped me become more aware of my thirst for knowledge. The fall of 2010 I would be heading back to Steamboat just as I did the two previous years with the same plan and savings. All though this particular winter was not cooperating as the previous seasons had. Everybody knows that betting on the weather is never a good idea and this particular year I had made the wrong bet. The locals kept reassuring me that this was the year of El Niña which meant a tremendous amount of snow for the year, the only downside to this is that an El Niña winter likes to show up to the party late. For me that meant my budget calculations would be off, while I had a job lined up at my previous place of employment it would not begin until the ski mountain was open. This meant I had to find a job and fast, I took the bus down to the local Wendy s and applied for a job. Luckily they were hiring and I got the job, I had found a way to pay the rent for the month. Talk about your perspective of working with Reclamation in your role at the Interstate Stream Commission. Talk about your perspective of Reclamation, what s it s like to be Commissioner, and any thoughts about your end of term. Today, I would like to talk about: Reclamation s Present Role and Future Involvement with Indian water rights settlements. And I would like to highlight a few of the settlements where Reclamation has been actively engaged: o Taos Pueblo Water Rights Settlement, Hualapai Water Rights Settlement, and Blackfeet Tribe Water Rights Settlement. Present Role and Future Involvement: This Administration has strongly supported Indian water rights settlements and the water needs of tribal communities. Indian water rights settlements are consistent with the federal trust responsibility to tribes and with federal policy promoting Indian self determination and economic self sufficiency. As I have witnessed here first hand, settlements can end decades of controversy and contention concerning water issues among tribes and neighboring communities replacing those conflicts with certainty, fostering cooperation in water resource management and promoting healthy economies. Use the schedule I have attached to the case it is in the same format as we used to examine the U.S. balance of payments. What do the trade and current account balances suggest about the likelihood of a potential devaluation of the peso? Why? a. It suggests that because Mexico is importing twice as much as they are exporting that there is a strong chance that the peso will lose value to counter the constant increase in imports. It is also important to point out that the exports in 1974 and 1975 are practically the same. During fission, each uranium atom is bombarded by neutrons, causing each uranium atom to turn into one atom of barium, one atom of krypton, and three neutrons. For instance, when the group did overtime on the weekends, they operated as a team regardless of work assignments (Slade, p.3). The hierarchy mechanism was also flawed because, Otto s brother, Herman Schell lacked proper supervision. This is compounded by the fact that all of the 38 workers in the plating division had to be overseen by one person, without support. Within a control organization there is also the notion that work is mainly to get a fair day s pay for a fair day s work; managers see workers as a variable cost (Walton, p.78). At Slade this was evident in how workers were perceived and compensated. They were paid $1.25 an hour for 60 hours a week and were paid at the overtime rate for hours exceeding then normal 60 hours. • 25. Presidential Vs. Parliamentary Systems Of Government There has always been a debate over which form of government is the most stable. For a long time, there was either a choice (within democratic models) of presidential systems of government, in which the executive is all powerful, or parliamentary systems of government, where the legislature is the supreme power. However, in the past century, a middle ground has emerged between the two: semi presidential systems of government. Semi presidential systems, as defined by Maurice Duverger (an early writer on such models), are systems where a president of the republic, elected by universal suffrage and given personal powers, co exists with a government resting on the confidence placed in it by parliament . This means that semi presidential models of government generally have a directly elected president and parliament, along with a prime minister, who is appointed. The question of whether these systems are more or less stable than presidential or parliamentary then becomes the focus, and must be looked at in practice for this measure. Semi presidential systems, as seen in France and Russia, can at times be either very stable or very unstable, depending on the composition of a particular government. France, a pioneer in the concept of semi presidential systems, has seen stability go either way, depending on the affiliation of elected officials. • 27. Theme Of Mariam In A Thousand Splendid Suns In Khaled Hosseini s novel A Thousand Splendid Suns he presents the different aspects of Mariams childhood through the interactions she has with the people in her life. Her interactions with Nana show the effects if being raised a harami, with Jalil show her isolation and her naive attitude, with Mullah Faizullah her piety and with Jalil s wives the reality of her poverty and low social status. This collates to portray a miserable childhood, with religion (and Mullah Faizullah) as her only source of comfort and happiness. Hosseini presents Mariam s childhood as revolving around the fact she is an illegitimate child, her mother Nana was a housekeeper for a rich, married bussiness man Jalil. In the first chapter Nana refers to Mariam as a harami a title frequently brought up in the novel to show the massie impact t has on her life and that Mariam can neve escape being a bastard. Although Mariam doesn t fully understand what it means in this chapter, she realises that it was an ugly, loathsome thing to be a harami, like an insect . Hosseini uses the similie like an insect to show how because of her illegitimacy Mariam is worthless and an inconvinience to others. The adjectives ugly and loathsome emphasise Mariam s upsetting childhood and her feelings of inadequecy and repulsiveness. In Afghan society generally having children out of wedlock is seen as a disgrace and the illegitimate children are often considered as lower class. Later in the novel Nana recalls how she was removed from Jalil s household and how he built them the Kolba they live in, which Nana refers to as a rathole . Hosseini uses the semantic field of animals rathole , insect and cockroach to convey to the reader how deprived Mariam s childhood is as a result of her being a harami, she is viewed as vermin throughout her childhood. This relationship with Nana, who resents Mariam culminates in Nana s suicide, which marks the end of Mariam s childhood and naivety. The Grail was considered to be a bowl or dish when first described by Chrétien de Troyes (Holy Grail Crystalinks). Hélinand of Froidmont described the Grail as a wide and deep saucer (O Neal 79). Other authors had their own ideas: Robert de Boron portrayed it as the vessel of the Last Supper; and Peredur had no Grail per se, presenting the hero instead with a platter containing his kinsman s bloody, severed head (Holy Grail Crystalinks). In Parzival, Wolfram von Eschenbach, citing the authority of a certain (probably fictional) Kyot the Provençal, claimed the Grail was a stone that fell from Heaven, and had been the sanctuary of the Neutral Angels who took neither side during Lucifer s rebellion. The authors of the Vulgate Cycle used the Grail as a symbol of divine grace. Clinical Audits in Nursing Introduction As the recommendation has been established as best practice this chapter will propose a clinical audit to review the extent to which the recommendation is applied in practice. Practitioners have a responsibility to continually improve their standards of care (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2010). Clinical audits are a valuable tool for professionals to monitor their current practice and promote improvements in care (Benjamin, 2008). What is a clinical audit? A clinical audit is a quality improvement process which aims to improve care through a systematic review of practice against evidenced based criteria, followed by the implementation of change (Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership, 2011). There are many different audit cycles to choose from which could be confusing for practitioners (Dixon Pearce, 2011). Hitchcock used visual cinema techniques including cinematography, symbolism and colour in films such as Rope and Vertigo to invoke a response from his audience. Hitchcock wanted us to identify with the psychological and physical situations that his protagonists and antagonists experience. In Rope, Hitchcock uses innovative cinematography techniques so that the audience feel as if they are a part of the unfolding drama. The camera work is choreographed so that the action is filmed in one continuous shot. In this way, in Rope Hitchcock attempted to create the effect of a live stage show. The effect of the real time footage has the result upon the audience of a constant unrelenting sense of uncertainty and suspense that anything could happen at any time, such as a dinner guest opening the chest containing the body of David. Because the audience is constantly on edge, their reactions, such as fear, are heightened. The camera journeys through the unfolding drama in a point of view style that is immediate and personal in terms of the characters and objects Hitchcock wants his audience to see. The isoforms of NOS, eNOS and nNOS mediate penile erection. These isoforms are regulated by NOS cofactors, calcium, calcium binding protein calmodulin, oxygen and reduced NADPH. After the increase in intercellular calcium production, NO is generated in low amounts. Upon neural depolarization in nNOS containing nerve terminal in penis, neural NO is released. Nitric Oxide (NO) is the body s natural vasodilator, but the problem is, in diabetic patients NO is way below the normal levels. So, it is produced 50% less when compared to a healthy individual. One way to effectively solve this problem is by increasing the oxygen levels. Oxygen is critical for NO production. In diabetic patients, not enough oxygen is available to activate NO because of poor circulation to organs such as nerves and skin. In addition to this, the generation of ATP is also diminished and acidosis (high amounts of acid is produced) occurs. NO production diminishes when high amounts of acid are formed. The only other way to produce NO is to use the readily available NO that is stored in RBCs. Anodyne Therapy System (ATS) is a drug free way to accomplish NO production from RBCs. • 44. Operation Underground Railroad Analysis Based on the U.S. State Department s reports around 600,000 to 800,000 people are being trafficked across international borders every year as of 2005 (PBS). These numbers need to change, and there are multiple organizations trying to make a change, it is possible for these numbers to change drastically with the help of social media. If activist and organizations could use social media effectively, social and economic issues would change drastically. Despite the fact that Operation Underground Railroad uses social media , the activist Laurie Holden, and the organization itself does not seem to incite its audience to get actively involved in the cause because it does not give much direction for how, where, or when to take action. Operation Underground Railroad was founded in 2013 by Tim Ballard who was a former CIA agent. • 46. Essay The History of Fair Trade Fair trade can be defined as a social movement thats objective is to help producers in developing countries make better trading conditions and elevate sustainability. Fair trade is contrasting to the other trade practices in our world, its about making codes of fairness in the marketplace. The practice of fair trade seeks to reshape the way we buy and sell products to verify that all farmers and skilled workers behind the manufacturing of goods get a better deal. Most people would assume this as a better means for prices, however can include better and longer lasting relationships. Fair trade is also about information, having the knowledge as to where are food/products are coming from, and having the knowledge that all products were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the fair trade movement was majorly shaped in the years following WWII. The Mennonite Central Committee and SERRV International were the first in 1946 to develop fair trade supply chains in developing countries. The products were mostly sold by volunteers in charity stores. North Americas first fair trade organization started in 1946 also, Ten Thousand Villages. Later in 1988, the launch of the first fair trade label (Max Havelaar) was created under the initiative of a Dutch development agency. The Max Havelaar label was further replicated in several markets in Europe and North America. In 1989 the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT) was the first umbrella organization to unite and coordinate fair trade business and organizations. They became the first organization to commit to fair trade 100%. Later in 1997 the Fairtrade International (FLO) was established, this was the second major umbrella organization for fair trade. However the FLO does not require fair trade on 100% of its members or products. Later in 2004, Fairtrade international split into two independent organizations, FLO which sets fair trade standards, and producer support, and FLO CERT, which inspects and certifies producer organizations. Today fair trade has developed into something much more, the global sales have soared over the past decade. This proves that fair trade is actually making a difference in our world, a little bit at a time. The fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The texts I have chosen to analyse are the poem, All the world s a stage by William Shakespeare which explores the change during different parts of one man s life and the stages he goes through. The second text is the movie Star Trek (2009) is a sci fi themed movie about a rebellious young man named James T. Kirk whose life was changed by the faith of a Starfleet captain who sees in the rash youth the special qualities that a member of Starfleet must possess to succeed in the challenging and often dangerous world their profession puts them in. In All the world s a stage Shakespeare writes of a man who has a negative attitude towards growing up and life in general. This is shown through the negative words that Shakespeare uses to describe his life. For instance: even at the earliest stage, At first the infant, mewling and puking in the nurse s arms is shown being bad? Analyse the quote, write the effect. Why did Shakespeare write it like this? Due to the man s attitude toward change and growing up he experiences life at its worst, remembering only the bad experiences. In contrast Star Treks entire franchise is based on learning news ideas, embracing different cultured, moving forward and accepting change. It s only when you look closer you see individuals that are struggling the accept change or try to become better. We see this in James T. Kirks beginning when he lives in Iowa and is basically a drop out with no prospects though really smart. Kirks own change over a short period of time results in him being an overall better person, Kirk s attitude towards change is a determined positive one, as seen in his hearing, I don t believe in no win scenarios where Kirk changes a no win test so it s winnable. Kirk changes also had a tragic backstory, his father dying when he young and living with an abusive step father. The previous texts character did not have the excuse of a tragic backstory and yet he still looked on the world with disgust. Kirk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Essay About Snow White There have been numerous different versions and different interpretations in both writing and on film of the story known by most as Snow White . These different variations all have a universal theme and storyline in common with one another. This specific version of the familiar fairytale is that of the Grimm brothers, the two brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their story Little Snow White in 1812. This story by the Grimm brothers has a twist towards the ending when it is compared to the version that most are familiar with, made popular by the Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfes . In addition to an alternate ending, it is also necessary to realize that in the story of Snow White, there is more to look at and understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this step is where Snow White begins to make decisions on her own and accept the fact that there will be consequences for each and every action that she makes. After the huntsman defies the stepmother s order of killing Snow White and allows her to run off into the woods, it allows Snow White to be independent. This new found independency of Snow White is comparable to The Heroine s Journey when Murdock states The heroine crossed the threshold, leaves the safety of her parents home, and goes in search of herself. (90). Murdock explains that there will be challenges and adversity for the heroine to struggle through, from both the outside world but also battle within herself. The next in the road of trials comes when the stepmother and Snow White have their first encounter after the stepmother attempted to kill Snow White for the first time. The stepmother realizes the huntsman betrayed her when she receives the response of the mirror stating You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Snow White, beyond the mountains With the seven dwarfs, Is still a thousand times fairer than you. (Paragraph 45). This both shocks and infuriates the stepmother because she still was not the most beautiful woman of them all. There is a need for the stepmother to have Snow White dead, so she can have all the attention of the King and this connects to the myth of romantic love in The Heroine s Journey. The stepmother has the mindset of If I find the right man I ll be happy... I won t have to figure out what I want to do. I can simply live his life and this is why she needs Snow White dead (107). With Snow White dead then it would allow the stepmother to have a sense of fulfillment in her life.
