Foreshadow In Trifles
In the shows, movies, and comics Superman shares numerous trait with Jesus Christ. First of all,
Superman is between the ages twenty nine to thirty five while Christ was thirty three years of age.
Often times in Superman cartoons he is shown to be captured by his enemies in a crucified manner
similar to how Christ was nailed to the cross. Then, in the movie Superman Returns, Superman harms
his hands in his attempt to launch a large mass of Kryptonite, his only weakness which drains his body
of vital energy, away from Earth. This also saves the lives of thousands of people and animals from
the massive cracking and earthquakes occurring due to the chemicals presence on Earth. During his
final battle, a boy believed to be Superman s son due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is peculiar as to why J.K. Rowling chose to place the scar upon Harry s forehead. The source of
thought and reason. Perhaps, it was to somehow inflict Voldemort s values and beliefs into Harry s
mind to join the Death Eaters, so that way the Lord could ensure one of his horcruxes safety. Makes
sense as to why Voldemort never killed nor could kill Harry or else he d lose a fragment of himself.
The meaning of lightning bolt has meant power evident in the God of Gods: Zeus. Even in the anime
One Piece, it is even said that the one power mankind has never overpowered was lightning. You can
draw the energy to a lightning rod however its powers are evident. To be struck by lightning usually
means death because the body cannot handle the one billion joules of energy a bolt creates. Therefore,
it is almost unheard of that Harry Potter survived such a traumatic experience of being stuck by
Voldemort s dark magic symbolically equal to lightning. Is to withstand lightning equivalent to
overcoming nature? This ability is certain to be deemed utter madness, for in all of history human
have been at the hand of nature. We cannot live through an Ice Age, survive a hurricane nor live to tell
the tale of the beauty and terror of an arriving tsunami. Yet, with the surviving Potter it is to every
magic user s dismay how he survived. Similar to man

Kurt Donald Cobain of Nirvana Essay
Kurt Donald Cobain was the leader of Nirvana, the multi platinum grunge band that redefined the
sound of the nineties.
Cobain was born on the 20th of February 1967 in Hoquaim, a small town 140 kilometres south west of
Seattle. His mother was a cocktail waitress and his father was an auto mechanic. Cobain soon moved
to nearby Aberdeen, a depressed and dying logging town.
Cobain was for most his childhood a sickly bronchitic child. Matters were made worse when Cobain s
parent s divorced when he was seven and by his own account Cobain said he never felt loved or secure
again. He became increasingly difficult, anti social and withdrawn after his parent s divorce. Cobain
also said that his parent s traumatic split fueled a lot of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nevermind went on to sell ten million copies and make a reported $550 million (US) leaving Nirvana
overnight millionaires. Cobain was shocked at the reception of his highly personal and passionate
music repeatedly telling reporters that none of the band ever, ever expected anything like this. It
quickly became obvious that the obsessively sickly and sensitive 24yr old was not going to cope well
with the rock n roll lifestyle. quot;If there was a rock star 101 course, I d really have like to take it,
quot; Cobain once observed. Cobain fell into heroin in the early 90 s, he said he used it as a shield
against the rigorous demands of touring and to stop the pain of stomach ulcers or an irritated bowel.
Through the touring and pressure Cobain continued to write his very personal acutely focused lyrics.
Cobain was distressed to find out that what he wrote and how it was interpreted could quite often be
miles apart. He was appalled when he found out that Polly a heavily ironic anti rape song had been
used as background music in a real gang rape. He later appealed to fans on the Incesticide liner notes
quot;If any of you don t like gays or women or blacks, please leave us the fuck alone. quot; It was to
no avail, Cobain found that as an overnight millionaire musician control was something he had very
little of. Cobain also worried that his band had sold out, that it was attracting the wrong

Juvenile Castration In Cats
Overpopulation of unwanted or stray cats continues to be a problem in many countries all over the
world. Surgical sterilization is the most reliable and commonly used method to control reproduction in
cats (Bloomberg, 1996; Howe 1997; Looney et al., 2008 and Reichler, 2009). Castration is a common
procedure in male cats recommended to reduce the population of unwanted cats and reduce aggressive
behavior. Post pubertal castration is performed within the age of six to nine months (Yates et al.,
2013). Prepuberal castration also called juvenile neutering in cats less than five months of age (Neven,
2013). Juvenile castration in cats aged between six to sixteen weeks was reported as acceptable age by

Substance Use Disorders Are Chronic And Recurrent. Impulse...
1.6 Guiding principals 1.6.1 Longitudinal data analysis Substance use disorders are chronic and
recurrent. Impulse control, which is a predisposition to and/or a consequence of substance use
disorders, is also a core behavioral domain underlying many HIV risk behaviors. Unlike some HIV
risk behaviors such as engaging in unprotected sex, substance use disorders are more proximally
associated with brain biology. In order to study HIV risk behaviors among injection drug users, we
will use the data in a longitudinal manner rather than reducing the data to a cross section or single
measure (e.g., lifetime dependence). The reason is that a longitudinal data provides more valuable
information about the long term trajectories of the HIV risk behaviors of injection drug users. This
information may yield a phenotype that reflects severity and intensity in a way that is more strongly
related to the underlying biology of the trait. Using longitudinal ALIVE injection data, we borrow the
concept of pack years to create our phenotype, injection years, (Caporaso et al., 2009) and analyze the
composite HIV risk phenotypes of the trajectories of the participants. (Smith et al., 2015) The lives
and relationships of injection drug users tend toward instability; hence, there exists virtually no perfect
attendance record for any single participant in this study. For this thesis, we accessed the ALIVE
cohort, a longitudinal community based study, and we use statistical approaches to impute the

Examples Of Proverbs In The Hobbit
Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs: A Look at the Life and Works of J.R.R. Tolkien
If a live dragon looked you in the eye, what would you do? Would you stand paralyzed with fear?
Would you run? Take a page out of Bilbo Baggins s book and engage the beast, flatter him. Tell him a
riddle or two (Tolkien 199). According to J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings and The
Hobbit, riddles fascinate dragons. Tolkien advises us to always speak in riddles when speaking to a
dragon (Tolkien 200). Along with this piece of wisdom, Tolkien offers us a wealth of other proverbs
all throughout his books. Tolkien is the creator of Middle Earth and all of its creatures. J.R.R. Tolkien,

Bilbo values his comfort. While he is polite to the dwarves, he is afraid they will break his things
(Tolkien 12). He has little interest in adventures and is reluctant to accompany the dwarves on their
quest (Tolkien 20). Yet, Bilbo goes along with the dwarves as their burglar. Bilbo comes back a
changed hobbit. Tolkien may be suggesting that our comfort can prevent us from seeing our world. He
may be trying to convey that comfort is not as valuable as we believe it to be.
J.R.R. Tolkien left his mark on society. He gave modern civilization something to ponder. Tolkien is
considered to be one of the greatest authors to have ever lived. Tolkien lived a fairly normal life,
despite his undeniable connection with Middle Earth. Tolkien made a name for himself within the

The Price Of The Penny
The Penny is essentially a vital part of our money system. There has been many speculation about
whether or not the United States should abolish the penny from being minted any longer. Although the
penny has been a part of the American culture since 1787, it has such a small value, it will always be a
part of American history. So as the years go on we should realize that the penny is everything to the
United States. The penny should not be eliminated from the money system due to the fact that it is a
part of the American culture and has earned its respect over the years.
In America, there is still a debate if the penny should be eliminated. If it was to be eliminated it would
still be used, but in a minimal way. In Canada, the Canadian penny was eliminated due to cost, time,
and the country believed it was a waste of money, inflation reduced its purchasing power by 95%
since it was first minted domestically in 1908: back then the cent could buy goods of the cost of $0.20,
today in other words. (The Economist). Once a small coin can no longer be used to buy individual
items at that price, but it is only used to make change, it becomes more trouble than it is worth.
Canadian pennies cost 1.6 Canadian cents to manufacture, and the government expected to save $11
million a year by eliminating them (The Economist). But that sum equivalent to 0.0006% of GDP is
small change. Canadians feel that eliminating pennies is that their feeble purchasing power means

The Most Common Forms Of Inflammatory Arthritis
Gout is one of the most common forms of inflammatory arthritis, affecting about 2.49% of the
population in the United Kingdom. Over the past 16 years, there has been a rise in reported incidence
in the UK (Lim et al., 2014). The condition tends to increase with age, especially affecting those
above 65 years. It is known to be much more common in men, with an incidence of 4.42 per 1,000 in
men but only 1.32 per 1,000 in women (Moi et al., 2014). The condition is characterised by the rapid
onset of severe pain, swelling, and erythema of the affected joint. The first metatarsophalangeal joint
is the site of the initial attack of gout in up to 78% of gout sufferers and is involved at some point in
the course of the disease in up to 89% (Roddy et al., 2011). Other areas affected can include the mid
foot, ankle, knee, fingers, wrists and elbows. Chronic gout is defined as repeated attacks of gout
greater than one episode in a year with persistent hyperuricemia (National Institute for Health and
Care Excellence, 2015).
The treatment of gout is usually conducted over two separate phases: in cases of acute gout, rapid
relief is offered from joint pain and inflammation, while in chronic cases, long term management is
provided to reduce serum urate, thus decreasing further acute attacks and irreversible joint damage
(Moi et al., 2014). The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) management
recommendations include lowering serum urate below 360 μmol/l (6 mg/dl). This has been

Advantages And Disadvantages Of ASP, Sales And Sales And...
.2.1 Introduction
Every company or firm requires CRM to handle its sales and marketing activities. The manual
processes of CRM are now replaced with automated services like SFA and EMA.
The latest trend with respect to software services is to lease or hire the services. The increasing costs
of installing software and the complexities involved in creating an infrastructure, and human resources
to maintain and manage the technical aspects have given rise to this trend. As a result a business
model where a particular organisation provides computer services to its various companies. These
organisations or third party entities are called Application Service providers or ASPs. These ASPs

are also a few more examples of free ASP tools. Besides, there are paid ASP services also. So how
does ASP operate? It operates as given below.
 The software provider owns the software, the hardware like servers and resources like the support
team
 The software provider makes the software available to the customers through Internet
 And the customer pays the service provider on a fixed model that is, on a monthly basis or per use
format.
c) Advantages and disadvantages of implementing ASP:
The advantages of implementing ASP is that, this model helps in saving time and cost involved in
implementing a technological infrastructure, like servers, network software, database etc. Besides this,
each time software updations happen, expert support is provided by the service provider. However, the
service terms and conditions are to be defined. Besides, these some more advantages are listed here.
Elimination of Software integration problems from the client s premises
The cost of the software application is spread over a number of clients
The service providers gain more experience in the application than the internal staff
The maintenance and management of the software systems is taken care of by experts from service

The Role Of Chivalry In Medieval Europe
In Medieval Europe, in order for a knight to be considered honorable, he had to conduct himself by
the code of chivalry. The Knights Code of Chivalry was part of the culture of the Middle Ages and
was understood by all. Chivalry was a system of ethical ideals developed among the knights of
medieval Europe. Arising out of feudalism, it combined military virtues with those of Christianity, as
characterized by the Arthurian legend in England and the chansons de geste of medieval France. The
word chivalry is derived from the French chevalier, meaning horseman or knight (Chivalry. (n.d.).

How Did Industrialization Affect The Economy After The 1800s
After the 1800 s, the United States economy began to change drastically through industrialization, big
cities, and factories. All of these changes greatly affected daily life, labor norms, and trade. There
were new technologies in people s lives that helped the way they communicated and travelled.
Factories produced items faster and big cities led to more money, and more opportunities. The
government gave support to the market revolution in the ways they were capable of doing so to help
facilitate economic progress. Industrialization culturalized the economy and the social life in the
country at this time. This progress created new and improved jobs that boosted the nations economy,
which also allowed for more technological advancements. Better roads were being paved; canals,

Chicago, which was swampy at first, had no mountain barrier; this allowed easy traveling for trade.
Chicago was also economically linked to New York because the moneymakers like William Butler,
helped developed Chicago. Butler brought money to Chicago to help it become the booming city it
eventually did. The new city became an industrial powerhouse, which linked the entire United States
from the Erie Canal down to the Mississippi River. Connecting Chicago to these canals and rivers
allowed it to turn into enormous global trade area. The Lowell Mills also created a new type of work
life. The hours were dependent on the clock, not on sunrise, women were working in the factories and
it created the putting out system. The Lowell Mills had the girls working all day, producing clothing
for little pay and in tough working conditions. The girls had to sleep in the boarding houses if they
worked at the mills. The boarding houses were closely supervised, they had to attend church, the doors

Use Of Language In Human Communication Essay
Language is a media to make a relationship between people in this world. Language is used in human
communication in a daily conversation, bussiness, and many aspect of live in order to coorporate and
solve the human problems. This is done because human is a communal people whom they always

Lucid Dreaming Essays
Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming is: dreaming while aware that you are dreaming. Webster s definition of lucidity
continues with clearness of thought or style and a presumed capacity to perceive the truth directly and
instantaneously . In this sense, lucid dreaming is associated with controlling one s dreams as they are
happening. It is a term that was coined by Frederik van Eeden in the Proceedings of the Society for
Psychical Research, Vol. 26, 1913:
I can only say that I made my observations during normal deep and healthy sleep, and that in 352
cases, I had full recollection of my day life and could act voluntarily, though I was so fast asleep that
no bodily sensations penetrated my perception. If anybody refuses to call that ... Show more content

What is the cause of these different levels of rationality among dreaming? The current thought is
indicating that that there is a lack of understanding about what is and what is not appropriate to the
time and place of the dreamworld (Levitan, A Fool s Guide to Lucid Dreaming , 1994). This theory
postulates that while absurdity is inherent in dreams, lack of practice in dream manipulation can cause
the dreamer to confront ideas that may cause the dreamer to lose control of lucidity. This lack of
understanding may cause the dreamer to misinterpret the dream and to have moments of self doubt.
There are three main situations that tend to initiate loss of control and rationality in a dream: Being
afraid of physical harm; Being afraid of social consequences; Thinking that another dream character is
really there. All of these pitfalls can inhibit a dreamer from achieving a higher state of lucidity in his
dreams.
Why Would You Want to Have Lucid Dreams?
There are many reasons that people will want to have lucid dreams. The first desire for a lucid dream
comes from the pleasure and excitement of being able to control one s dreams and achieve actions that
are not possible. The most common of these dreams is the ability to fly, the

My Views On Education And Education
Compulsory Education
In this paper, I am going to examine and compare my views on education to the great philosophers
Aristotle, Socrates and Plato. Education should not be something forced on people from a very young
age. We are educating our children to be master test takers who conform to the norm and not to think
outside the box. My position is supported by Socrates in Plato s The Republic and Aristotle in his
Nicomachean Ethics, Book II. Because students waste too much time on testing, education should not
be compulsory
.
First of all school should be voluntary. Socrates states that bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no
harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind.
(536e) Socrates believed that a compulsory education does not work especially in early education.
Education must appear to be voluntary at first Socrates says, Don t use force in training the children in
the studies, but rather play. In that way, you can better discern what each is naturally directed towards
(537a) I strongly agree that education is being forced upon the youth of today. Education should not
be something our youth fear. Children should not get up in the morning and dread going to school.
The schools should be educating our children; they should be empowering our youth to be
independent thinkers and teaching our children how to be compassionate functioning members of
society. In today s society, standardized

There Should Be Guidelines To Human Experimentation
The modern understanding of medicine was created by the many people who were subjected to
medical testing without their consent. There should be guidelines to human experimentation. Human
experimentation should only be performed on consenting adults that understand what is going to
happen. In other words, the doctors should get informed consent from their patients. There have been
many unethical human experimental trials performed on people that had no idea what was happening
to them. This is unethical and very dangerous for the people. There also have been different guidelines
and codes for human experimentation, such as the Nuremberg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki.
An example of such unethical human experimentation is The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. This
happened in Alabama and was performed by the U.S government in 1932. The men that were in the
trial were given free health care, meals and burial insurance. 399 men had syphilis beforehand and 201
did not. Funding was cut for the experiments but they still continued to study these men even though
the antibiotic penicillin had come out in 1947. They told the men that they had something called bad

packing things up. That s why it helps to follow these 3 tips to de clutter your home prior to packing.
Take Out The Trash
Before you can even start packing, you ll need to take out the trash. Start by getting rid of the garbage
in your home. These are things that you don t want, and have so little value that you cannot sell them.

has interest or if it should be thrown away.
Handle Sentimental Stuff For Last
People tend to slow down de cluttering when they get around to sentimental items. This could include
old artwork from your kids, or even organizing photos. It s best to deal with these things last, since
they can be the most time consuming to sort through. Worst case scenario is that you don t get through
the small amount of sentimental stuff you have and you end up moving it to your new home to sort
later.

Renewable Resources Disadvantages
Renewable resources are resources that have the ability to be used in infinite amounts because it is

with positive outcomes and there is an infinite amount. An infinite amount of something and being
repreoduced naturally means that it gives individuals something that this world has created for them.
There are many different renewable resources, which include solar power, wind, geothermal energy,
tidal power, and more. The number one renewable resource that has stood out is geothermal energy.
This energy deals with heat and it is being stored naturally from earth itself. This renewable resource

Effects Of Plastic Surgery Among Teenagers
Plastic Surgery amongst Teenagers is on the rise In the year 2015, where here in the United States
following the lastest celebrities has become an influence on many teens across the Unites States, what
I mean by influence is plastic surgery. You see it everywhere it s on TV, on billboards, on the radio and
all over the magazines. It seems as if everything a well known celebrity does teens want to do also.
And what celebrity has gotten done to enhance herself teens often look at this as what they should

With all these risks, why do people still go through with this dangerous procedure? I don t think it s
worth it. But according to the opposing article www.platicsurgeons.com if patients go through the
procedure the affects will be long term and you will get what you want. In my opinion with dangerous
risks including losing your life it isn t worth it. Plastic surgery may raise self esteem, but often does
not. Many teens don t realize even the most beautiful people, including celebrities, are insecure about
their appearances. And getting plastic surgery cannot fix all of your problems. Many teens get plastice
surgery for unrealistic reason, such as to fit in with other peers or to keep up with lastest celebrities, or
to attempt to improve their physical appearance as said in the article www.wtvq.com/health the media

According to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia the frontal lobe of the brain does not fully develop until the
20s to 30s. That portion of the brain controls decision making, and understanding consequences. This
is another reason why teenagers should not have plastic surgery. Therefore teenagers should not
undergo the plastic surgery when you are young and surgeon should not touch the body that is not yet
fully grown. Plastic surgery is a dangerous idea for teenagers as their decision

Causes Of Drug Legalization
In the United States, we have many conflicts such as discrimination, war between other counties, and
most importantly the debate of drug legalization. The reason for the debate/conflict on drug
legalization is because of timely matter. For an example, Colorado and Washington have passed laws
for the legalizing the recreational use of marijuana (Rosenkraz, 2016). The United States has been
fighting a war with drug for 41 years. The estimated costs so far is about 2.5 trillion dollars (Dovan,
2016). Therefore, that information shows why Americans are debating about the legalization of drugs.
Many Americans do not favor the cause of drug legalization, but there are minority who disagree. I am
one of the minority whom does favor the cause of drug legalization. My goal in this paper is to give
my opinion and information to show why I do favor the legalization of drugs.
In the article, 14 Years After Decriminalizing All Drugs, Here s What Portugal Looks Like, it
discussed how Portuguese government decriminalized all drugs. The country of Portugal has been
under the decriminalization for fourteen years now and stated that they have been doing better than
ever before (Zeeshanaleem, 2016). For example, there is no intense increase in crime for drug use. The
number of people arrested and sent to criminal courts for drug offenses declined by more than 60
percent since decriminalization. (Drug Policy Alliance, 2015). The number of criminal court cases
have decreased because the use

Refer to the paradox between the pleasure domes likeness to Eden, and the sin of pleasure. Is Kubla

Kubla Khan?
The first stanza sets the tone, theme and location of the poem. Most of this is achieved in the first five
lines. The rhyme pattern makes the first five lines almost independent of the rest of the stanza and the
indentation of the fifth line marks the change in pace that can be seen between the two halves of the
first stanza. Inn the second half of this stanza, the rhyme scheme is changed and this has a noticeable
effect on the stanza as a whole. It creates a definition between the broad description of Xanadu in the

The second half of this stanza describes the pleasure dome. The poet continues his use of strange,
mystical language, as he refers to the gardens and the blossoming, incense bearing trees. Soft
consonants reflect the subject matter, such as sinuous rills and sunny spots of greenery . There is
repetition of the e sound, which places emphasis on the last word. Specifically, on the first syllable of
the last word, green . This is to leave the reader with the desired impression of the pleasure dome. It s
a natural place, similar to the popular notion of Eden.
The second verse immediately contrasts the first using harsh words like chasm and savage . There is a
very strong distinction between the beautiful landscape described in the first stanza, and the wild,
destructive atmosphere of the second. The reference to the deep chasm arouses connotations of hell,
and this is reinforced as ideas of enchantment several lines later. By explicitly referring to
enchantment, instead of hinting at it, as was done in the first verse,
Coleridge would have created a clear message that this place was evil, compared to the beauty of the
pleasure dome. A modern audience may not see this explicit reference to enchantment as an indication
of evil, but in the 1700 s ideas of mysticism and witchcraft had far more importance. The idea that the

Review Of Billie Holiday s Song Strange Fruit
Protest Music Assignment For this assignment, I chose the song Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday. She
first performed this song in 1939, several years after the Civil War took place, but before the end of
the Jim Crow South. Billie Holiday was born in the North, which was more supportive of equality
between the races, but she was African American, and this was something that affected her life, even if
she did not live in the South. This song is a protest song, subtle as it may be, against lynching and the
Jim Crow Laws. It describes the lynching, and what can be seen after this deed is performed. Using
imagery and metaphors, she demonstrates the wrongs of the Jim Crow South and lynching. This song
was inducted into the Grammy Hall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the very first line of the song states Southern trees bear strange fruit , referring to the
men being lynched to strange fruit. They are hanging from the tree, and they are strange fruit because
that is not something that a tree produces. This however is a subtle metaphor for this action. A few
lines down, she sings Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze , which is clearly about lynching.
After this, Billie s song goes, Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh. Then the sudden smell of burning
flesh , which shows a contrast between the peace and calm, and then the abrupt disruption of nature by
the white men. She is obviously putting the smell in a negative light by describing the sweet flowers
first, and how the overbearing smell disturbed it. The final important line is Here is fruit for the crows
to pluck , which is referring to the Jim Crow South and the white men that take part in the lynching.
They literally pick out someone that they do not like just because of the color of their skin and they
lynch them. Billie Holiday s song ends with here is a strange and bitter crop , which still compares
African American men to crops that have been picked (lynched), and after that they are just left there
and no one gives another thought about

Analysis Of A Midsummer Night s Dream
Gabriel Yeung Mr. Ross ENG1DE A January 17th 2014 Humor. Humor is a quality of an action that
causes amusement and entertainment. A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare
is a play best known in the Shakespearian world for being a comedy play. This play has entertained
countless audiences over a span of many centuries. A Midsummer Night s Dream is about two pairs of
lovers that escape to the forest in order to make love for one another. While doing so, fairies in the
forest create chaos which causes the lover to be confused in who they truly love. The misinterpretation
on their identity relates to the major theme of the play which is love versus lust and reality versus
illusions. The language the Shakespeare chose to use in the play to create an interesting plotline
creates humor as well as entertaining the audience. Among the language use, the literary devices that
are most prominent to make the play humorous are dramatic irony, enjambment, and imagery. These
devices not only entertain and create humor for the audience but also help develop a plotline in which
many are interested in. Dramatic irony is one of the most evident devices used in the play. The term
dramatic irony is defined as an idea/ plot that the reader or audience knows off in a story or play but
the character in the play do not. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, the existence of fairies is a major
dramatic irony. The fairies are the mystical creatures that inhibit and lurk around in the

The Mist Review
The apocalypse is a common subject addressed in films and such Doomsday scenarios have become
increasingly popular since the beginning of the Cold War. These films provide a different cause for the
downfall of human kind and approach the subject with various degrees of despair and hope. Despite
the obvious differences in approach that different directors take, these films all serve to highlight not
only the negative qualities of human kind that led to and are represented by the agent of destruction
but also to highlight the strength of the survivors who keep the will to fight for their lives despite the
bleak circumstances. For the most part, The Mist, adapted from a Stephen King novella, sticks closely
to the archetype. The Mist, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it is present in. In one of the most suspenseful scenes, a volunteer ties a rope around his waist and
ventures into the unknown. Darabont stays fixed in the store and lets the pull on the rope tell the story,
creating great suspense. When the monsters do reveal themselves, the CGI work is seamless and
properly horrifying. The question of where they come from or why they have come is never addressed
even in the slightest. Darabont s focus is always squarely on the humans, who quickly splinter into
competing factions reflecting their own racial, class and educational prejudices. The Mist is as
misanthropic as it can get. As most good monster movies, this movie is not about the monsters. The
monsters are simply primal fears materialized. The main focus is really the human reaction to the
threat. The mist works as a fog of fear, and the store becomes a sample of most kinds of humans from
highly educated to low level working class. The fog becomes the unknown which is unknown to all

Abstract
In the play Oedipus Rex, Sophocles portrays Oedipus who is also the main character, as a good
natured, beautiful, noble yet narcissistic person who has a lapse of judgment and fall from power.
Throughout the play Oedipus makes a few profound decisions for which he is condemned to plentiful
suffering; thus making Oedipus fit the mold of a tragic hero if we agree with Aristotle that Oedipus
misfortune happens strictly because of his tragic flaw. Oedipus judgment alongside classic narcissistic

Aristotle, Using Oedipus as an ideal model, says that a tragic hero must be an important or influential
man who has a lapse in judgment. Who then must suffer the consequences of his actions. The audience
must learn a lesson from the tragic hero; a lesson of what happens when great men fall from their
social or political positions. The tragic hero needs his errors in judgment for a phenomenal effect of
audience realization to occur.
Oedipus tries to prevent his terrible fate from occurring after it is prophesized to Laius, his father,
early on; he leaves the city of his foster parents as a preventative measure. Oedipus is being punished
for his parents actions. His birth parents once set out to seek the advice of the Delphi Oracle but the
advice was gloom. They were told never to have children, but in spite of the warning Oedipus was
born. Therefore from the beginning Oedipus is a tragic hero, his birth presents his destiny to result in
tragedy. As with most tragedies Oedipus birth was noble which made his fall more intriguing to the
audience. What use are my eyes to me, who could never See anything pleasant again? (Sophocles
1293) This statement is the realization of wrongdoing; it is not until now that Oedipus sees his own
actions as wrong.
There is a significant point of the play where the Herdsman tells Oedipus who his mother is and
Oedipus replies Oh, oh, then everything has come out true. Light, I shall not look on

Vapor Pressure Lab
Volatile liquids are prevalently used in the perfume industry. Because of their evaporative nature,
feasibility is a top concern from both a shipping and manufacturing standpoint. Therefore, it is
necessary to ship the most viable chemicals under specific conditions . This experiment tested the
relationship between vapor pressure and molar mass and the relationship between vapor pressure and
temperature using four alcohols (amyl alcohol, ethanol, methanol, and 2 propanol) to assess whether n
hexanol or an alternative alcohol should be used and how the alcohol should be transported. From the
graph trend lines, a negative slope showed that molar mass was inversely proportional to vapor
pressure, and a positive slope showed that temperature was directly proportional to vapor pressure. It
was concluded that n hexanol transported at colder temperatures would most effectively minimize the
alcohol s volatility.

Boiling point is the temperature at which the vapor pressure equals the ambient atmospheric

Another example is that vapor pressure can serve as an effective indicator of a substance s degree of
volatility, a substance s tendency to vaporize.3 Because a substance with higher vapor pressure has
greater tendencies of both evaporation and condensation in equilibrium, it will also vaporize more
readily.4 This, in particular, will be a central

Never Let Me Go Annotation
Biologically, a human is a homo sapien. However, when we begin to analyze the acts that constitute
human behavior, the criteria of being human becomes difficult to characterize. The definition of
humanness becomes not what holds us together, but what makes us different. Kazuo Ishiguro s novel,
Never Let Me Go, narrates the life of Kathy H, a clone that is raised in isolation with her fellow clones
at Hailsham, an academy that prepares its students to complete their lives as organ donors. Because
Kathy lives an expedited life filled with the human emotions of love, pain, and jealousy, the audience
is convinced of the humanness shared by each student until Ishiguro critically reveals the process of

The regulations by the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) define human subjects as
those whom the researcher can obtain consent and identifiable private information (10). Ishiguro
highlights Kathy s cognitive ability and childhood history to classify the clones as human research
subjects. In addition, the OHRP mandates that every scientific experiment provides the opportunity to
consider whether or not to participate and that minimize the possibility of coercion or undue influence
(19). Though Kathy and her fellow clones believe an illusion of consent with the gossip of delaying
donations, they are indoctrinated from an early age to subdue any resistance against the system. As a
result, the enforcement of donations becomes unethical because the clones are stripped of any
opportunity to consent with minimal influences or withdraw from the process. Paralleling the
malpractice of donations, the Tuskegee experiment provides a historical and racial perspective. The
Ad Hoc Advisory Panel judged the study to be unethical for the lack of informed consent amongst the
African American participants. The Panel argues, people who may be selected for human
experimentation, and who, because of their station in life, may not have an equal chance to withhold
consent (11). As a result, the scope of humanness is expanded to include those targeted in the

Although the government promised the Native American people their land and to be safe and secured,

Cheyenne Indian Tribe Essay
Who really are the Cheyenne Indians? According to historians, they were Indian people who became
nomadic and moved to the Great Plains in the 18th century (Berkin 366). Another tribe, the Souix,
developed the name of people of a different language for the Cheyenne. Some people said that the
Cheyenne did not exist until the mid 1600s or at least this is when the earliest known records were
found. They are one of the most famous and prominent Plains tribes, too.
At first, this tribe moved from the Great Lakes region to the North Dakota area. This happened in the
1600 1700s. Also at this time, the Cheyenne were a sedentary tribe who relied on agriculture and
pottery. Though, in the 1800s, they decided to abandon this lifestyle and ... Show more content on

The lifestyle was fairly lax yet at the same time they knew when they needed to prepare for war or a
new move. Some of the customs the Cheyenne had included the smoking of a peace pipe and the
prayer made before each smoke. Another tradition was their story telling. Skilled story telling Indians
performed all stories told and these stories were about true life situations. The Cheyenne tribe actually
passed on these stories as well as their customs, religious ceremonies, and traditions orally from
generation to generation. This could be the reason on why the Cheyenne were not actually discovered
until the 1600s. One of the largest beliefs of the Cheyenne had to do with religion, though. They
believed in two deities: the Wise One Above and a God who lived beneath the ground. Also, there
were four spirits that lived at the points of the compass that they followed everywhere (Lewis).
Because the culture of many Indian tribes differed greatly from the United States, there were conflicts
between whites and Indians. First off, the Cheyenne had conflicts within their own tribe in the
beginning. Some of their tribal chiefs fought over various subjects and these arguments led to the split
of the tribe. One or two major chiefs went one way and other chiefs went the other. This made the
other Cheyenne tribe members choose on which way to go. Later, this division established the
Northern and Southern Cheyenne bands as separate people. The southern band

Globalization, Technology, And Political Economic Change
Globalization, Technology, and Political Economic Change in the Modern Era The institutions which
characterize modern European and American political economies have existed since the Great
Depression. These institutions were established to set formal rules dictating how economic agents
interact and how governments organize these agents. By examining these institutions and the
coalitional relationships and complementarities that they form, economists David Soskice and Peter
Hall identify two organizational forms, which they term two varieties of capitalism (VoC) the
coordinated market economy (CME), which describes Germany and other states with centralized wage
setting, and the liberal market economy (LME), representative of the United States where individual
actors and market forces set wages . However, international economic and technological changes are
altering the economic landscape, exemplified by growing wealth inequality, and how nations interact,
potentially redefining the institutions by which these economies are identified. Globalization is
defined as increasing integration of economic institutions, decreasing costs of communication and
liberating trade . The decreasing costs of doing business around the world are changing how firms are
managed and how they invest, potentially blurring the lines between CMEs and LMEs. Technology
has induced a transition from the Fordist economy of post World War Two toward a service based
economy. This transformation has

The Importance Of Bilingual Language
Have you ever wondered, why people split the language they speak linking different parts of their

within a different part of our life. They grew up with immigrant families and are familiar with the
bilingual environment. A bright author is Amy Tan, who wrote Mother Tongue, she confronted with

is Richard Rodriguez, who wrote a Public and Private language, reveals his childhood on his two

who created a poem named Bilingual Blues, he clarifies that he doesn t have one true language. By
their experiences, it helps us understand how bilingual people adjust their languages for different parts
of their life. People adjust their languages to assimilate the environment they are on.
People combine two languages to make a new language; thus, communicate with a group of people
that know those two languages like Spanglish. Having the knowledge of multiple languages makes

Clothing stayed ready made for a long time. Tailors, individuals, and family members could still make

The effect of body composition, size and age on the regulation of glucose in fasting individuals
Abstract: Glucose homeostasis is the process in which the body regulates glucose by secreting
hormones such as insulin and glucagon from the pancreas. It is controlled by a mechanism known as a
negative feedback loop. The experiment compares the blood glucose levels of three fasting individuals
at several intervals within 120 minutes, body measurements such as BMI and body fat percentage
were also recorded. Sample 1 and the experimental sample had similar blood glucose up until the
readings taken at 60 minutes however from there onward sample 1 did not regulate glucose as well as
the experimental sample. Sample 2 exhibited high blood glucose levels at every reading, showing that
they do not regulate glucose properly. In comparison to the other subjects sample 2 is the oldest, has
the highest BMI value and the largest waist to hip ratio, in conclusion body composition plays an
important role on how the body regulates glucose. Introduction: Glucose is a key source of energy for
much of the cells, tissues and organs within the body. The result of either a low or high blood glucose
level can have catastrophic effects on the body. For instance, a low blood glucose level; known as
hypoglycaemia, can lead to a person suffering from seizures, loss of consciousness and at extreme

Signs and Symbols focuses on a young boy institutionalized with a morbid paranoia of the outside

only source of affection is of Madame Perov, whose infatuation is seen in her constant attendance of
his piano recitals. Terra Incognito s main character Valliére and his companions are losing their minds
and lives to strange hallucigenic fever in a remote country in the fictional country of Zonraki. Strong
aspects of all three short stories focus on the alienation of each of the protagonists and the cause of
this, either due to madness, great creativity or delusion. This link is forged between the three, which

Introduction
Diffusion is defined as the movement of molecules or ions from an area of a higher concentration to
an area where they are in lower concentration. The driving force for diffusion is kinetic energy. The
speed of diffusion is influenced by the molecular, temperature, bumping bouncing off each other
creating equilibrium in the molecules. The atoms molecules are the building blocks of cells. Cells
have selectively permeable membranes that only allow the movement of certain solutes or solutions.
Diffusion is key to the functions in a cell. Diffusion helps to transport nutrients to cells in the body or
plants. Water is an example of this movement like absorption of water into roots.
Osmosis is the diffusion of a solvent or movement of water through semi permeable membrane from a
region of higher water or solvent into a potential lower region of water (hypertonic solute to a region
of lower water potential (hypertonic solute) to a region of lower water potential (hypertonic solute). ...

Hyperosmolality is usually related to hypernatremia and/or hyperglycemia. Identifying the cause and
carefully calculating the water deficit is crucial to appropriate management. Hyponatremia may be
hypertonic, isotonic, or hypotonic. When hypotonic, it may be hypervolemic, euvolemic, or
hypovolemic in nature. Determining the precise nature of the hyponatremia allows the clinician to
focus the therapy appropriately. The rate of development of hyponatremia is crucial to safe and
appropriate treatment. In acutely developing hyponatremia, hypertonic saline is required, whereas in
slowly developing hyponatremia, water restriction and slow correction is required to avoid the
syndrome of osmotic demyelination. Appropriate diagnosis and management of hyperkalemia and
hypokalemia are also

Selegiline Research Paper
Selegiline belongs to a class of drugs called phenethylamines. Selegiline is an L methamphetamine
derivative with a propargyl group attached to the nitrogen atom. This detail is borrowed from
pargyline, an older phenethylamine MAO B inhibitor.
Selegiline, N methyl N (2 propynyl) 2 methyl 1 phenylethyl 2 amine, is synthesized by the alkylation
of ( ) methamphetamine using propargyl bromide.
2.The muscarinic type being G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate a slow metabolic
response via second messenger cascades, while the nicotinic type are ligand gated ion channels that
mediate a fast synaptic transmission of the neurotransmitter.
The muscarinic AChRs occur primarily in the CNS, and are part of a large family of G protein coupled
receptors ( G proteins ), which use an intracellular secondary messenger system involving an increase
of intracellular calcium to transmit signals inside cells. Binding of acetylcholine to a muscarinic AChR
causes a conformational change in the receptor that is responsible for its association with and
activation of an intracellular G protein, the latter converting GTP to GDP in order to become activated
and dissociate from the receptor. The activated G ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The free base form of (S)‑ketamine exhibits dextrorotation and is therefore labelled (S)‑(+)‑ketamine.
However, its hydrochloride salt shows levorotation and is thus labelled (S)‑(−)‑ketamine
hydrochloride. The difference originates from the conformation of the cyclohexanone ring. In both the
free base and the hydrochloride, the cyclohexanone ring adopts a chair conformation, but the
orientation of the substituents varies. In the free base, the o chlorophenyl group adopts an equatorial
position and the methylamino group adopts an axial position.[85] In the hydrochloride salt, the
positions are reversed, with the o chlorophenyl group axial and the methylamino group

Cost Of Woman
The Cost of Being a Woman The average woman menstruates from around age twelve until about age
fifty (Nelson). This means that for around thirty eight years, between approximately two to seven days
a month, a woman bleeds as her uterus sheds and menstrual blood flows from the opening in the
cervix out of the vagina (Nelson). During those times women are in need of feminine hygiene
products. In the majority of our country women pay sales tax on these necessary products. In this way
women are paying our government for simply being women. These products are a necessity that
women need, just like groceries, which are exempt from sales taxes in the majority of the United
States. Women should not have to pay extra taxes on products that they ... Show more content on

Perry Buck, a republican from Windsor, Colorado, stated in support of a bill that would cut the tampon
tax in Colorado, I m happy if they exempt the male hygiene products, to me, for the government to be
picking winners and losers, I m not crazy about that at all. Buck said this in context inferring that
removing the sales tax on items such as men s razors and razor blades would level the field between
sales tax placed on products specifically meant for women or men (Stice). There are two issues with
this solution. One being that women will then want the sales tax removed from their razors and razor
blades as well, putting men behind in what seems to be some sort of government taxation game. This
game would then cause a slippery slope of requests for sales tax cuts on any number of male or female
specific products. The second issue being that in no way are razors an absolute necessity. Razors are a
clear want, not a need. It is not fair to compare a woman s need for a sanitary napkin to a man s want

American Class Structure System
The American class structure system here in the United States is based on class divisions. The
divisions can be determined by many different factors such as a person s economic situation,
educational level, and occupation. However, the most commonly known approach to this division is
the idea of social class. These social classes are divided into categories, which include the upper class,
middle class, working class, lower class and the underclass.
The upper class is defined in our text book as [a] social class broadly composed of the more affluent
members of society, especially those who have inherited wealth, own businesses, or hold large
numbers of stocks (shares) (Giddens, Duneier and Appelbaum 207). These are individuals like Bill
Gates that are superrich, but it can also include individuals that have a lot of influence in our society
like the president or even popular celebrities (Giddens, Duneier and Appelbaum 207). ... Show more

Not many people know that the middle class is actually divided into two subcategories, which are the
upper middle class and the lower middle class. The upper middle class consists of those who are
occupations provide them with fairly high incomes (Giddens, Duneier and Appelbaum 210). These
individuals are the doctors, lawyers, and engineers of our society. The members of the lower middle
class are those that are employed in positions of status such as teachers, nurses, police officers, and
firefighters though their wages aren t very high (Giddens, Duneier and Appelbaum

Differences Between Private Sector And Voluntary Sector
1. Understand organisational structures
1.1 Explain the differences between the private sector, public sector and voluntary sector
Private Sector
Businesses and industries that are not owned or controlled by the Government. Private Sector
organisations operate privately to make a profit with income generated from the sale of their products
or services. Although many private sector firms are owned and controlled by individuals, many are
owned by groups of people; for example, companies may be owned by shareholders, who have
invested in that company.
The Private Sector includes:
Sole trader an individual who owns and runs the business him or herself.
Partnership A partnership is where two or more people come together to operate ... Show more content

They are usually controlled by a directors or a management committee.
The Voluntary Sector is often referred to as the Third Sector or Not for Profit Sector. Whist they do
not exist to provide profit for shareholders, they need to generate income.
The Voluntary Sector includes:
Charities Oxfam, Red Cross, YMCA, Women s Royal Voluntary Service
Trusts Local Housing Associations
Local community organisations Neighbourhood Watch Schemes
Societies/Clubs Local sports clubs, Scouts, Guides
1.2 Explain the functions of different organisational structures
Having the appropriate structure is vital for an organisation or business to meet its aims and
objectives. A business may be structured by:
Functions activities such as customer service, marketing, operations, finance or IT
Location where regional divisions of the business take responsibility for a specific function or
particular products, whether locally, nationally or internationally
Product or services where the business is divided into the particular products made or services
provided
All organisations have employees working at different levels of responsibility. At the bottom, a
business depends on its operatives to produce the products or services. Team leaders often perform the
day to day management role, with operational managers setting direction and strategy for the business
as a whole. The number of employees in each level will depend on the business

The Development Of Human Development Essay
Human Development in Children aged 11years
Human development refers to the biological and psychological development in the human being
throughout the lifespan. It consists of the development from infancy, childhood and adolescence to
adulthood.
In this essay I will analyse two practiced based experiences to demonstrate my understanding of
human development. For my first practiced based experience, I will be drawing on Lev Vygotsky s
Sociocultural Development Theory. His key concepts of The Zone of Proximal Development, More
Knowledgeable Others, and Internalisation.
For my second practiced based experience I will draw on Erik Erikson s Theory of Identity
Development. His key concept of psychosocial development stages.
My first experience concerns an 11year old girl named Ella.
I was sitting in the library with Ella after she had completed her E asTTle testing. While we were
waiting to head back to the classroom Ella was completing a math s project. She explained to me that
she was in a higher learning level math s group and was completing a math s badge. Mrs. Jones head
of math s for year 7/8 is assisting Ella with her math s badge and told me that Ella is doing extremely
well.
My second experience was observing a group of 5 girls that had gone outside to practice their
presentation of an Anzac day story to be delivered before their peers. When one of the girls proceeded
to deliver her part of the presentation, Katy another of the girls in the group sidled up to her,

  • 2. Foreshadow In Trifles In the shows, movies, and comics Superman shares numerous trait with Jesus Christ. Impulse control, which is a predisposition to and/or a consequence of substance use disorders, is also a core behavioral domain underlying many HIV risk behaviors. Unlike some HIV risk behaviors such as engaging in unprotected sex, substance use disorders are more proximally associated with brain biology. In order to study HIV risk behaviors among injection drug users, we will use the data in a longitudinal manner rather than reducing the data to a cross section or single measure (e.g., lifetime dependence). The reason is that a longitudinal data provides more valuable information about the long term trajectories of the HIV risk behaviors of injection drug users. This information may yield a phenotype that reflects severity and intensity in a way that is more strongly related to the underlying biology of the trait. Using longitudinal ALIVE injection data, we borrow the concept of pack years to create our phenotype, injection years, (Caporaso et al., 2009) and analyze the composite HIV risk phenotypes of the trajectories of the participants. (Smith et al., 2015) The lives and relationships of injection drug users tend toward instability; hence, there exists virtually no perfect attendance record for any single participant in this study. There has been many speculation about whether or not the United States should abolish the penny from being minted any longer. Although the penny has been a part of the American culture since 1787, it has such a small value, it will always be a part of American history. So as the years go on we should realize that the penny is everything to the United States. The penny should not be eliminated from the money system due to the fact that it is a part of the American culture and has earned its respect over the years. In America, there is still a debate if the penny should be eliminated. If it was to be eliminated it would still be used, but in a minimal way. In Canada, the Canadian penny was eliminated due to cost, time, and the country believed it was a waste of money, inflation reduced its purchasing power by 95% since it was first minted domestically in 1908: back then the cent could buy goods of the cost of $0.20, today in other words. The first metatarsophalangeal joint is the site of the initial attack of gout in up to 78% of gout sufferers and is involved at some point in the course of the disease in up to 89% (Roddy et al., 2011). Other areas affected can include the mid foot, ankle, knee, fingers, wrists and elbows. Chronic gout is defined as repeated attacks of gout greater than one episode in a year with persistent hyperuricemia (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, 2015). The treatment of gout is usually conducted over two separate phases: in cases of acute gout, rapid relief is offered from joint pain and inflammation, while in chronic cases, long term management is provided to reduce serum urate, thus decreasing further acute attacks and irreversible joint damage (Moi et al., 2014). Webster s definition of lucidity continues with clearness of thought or style and a presumed capacity to perceive the truth directly and instantaneously . In this sense, lucid dreaming is associated with controlling one s dreams as they are happening. It is a term that was coined by Frederik van Eeden in the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research, Vol. 26, 1913: I can only say that I made my observations during normal deep and healthy sleep, and that in 352 cases, I had full recollection of my day life and could act voluntarily, though I was so fast asleep that no bodily sensations penetrated my perception. The current thought is indicating that that there is a lack of understanding about what is and what is not appropriate to the time and place of the dreamworld (Levitan, A Fool s Guide to Lucid Dreaming , 1994). This theory postulates that while absurdity is inherent in dreams, lack of practice in dream manipulation can cause the dreamer to confront ideas that may cause the dreamer to lose control of lucidity. This lack of understanding may cause the dreamer to misinterpret the dream and to have moments of self doubt. There are three main situations that tend to initiate loss of control and rationality in a dream: Being afraid of physical harm; Being afraid of social consequences; Thinking that another dream character is really there. All of these pitfalls can inhibit a dreamer from achieving a higher state of lucidity in his dreams. Why Would You Want to Have Lucid Dreams? • 15. My Views On Education And Education Compulsory Education In this paper, I am going to examine and compare my views on education to the great philosophers Aristotle, Socrates and Plato. Education should not be something forced on people from a very young age. We are educating our children to be master test takers who conform to the norm and not to think outside the box. My position is supported by Socrates in Plato s The Republic and Aristotle in his Nicomachean Ethics, Book II. Because students waste too much time on testing, education should not be compulsory . First of all school should be voluntary. Socrates states that bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind. (536e) Socrates believed that a compulsory education does not work especially in early education. Education must appear to be voluntary at first Socrates says, Don t use force in training the children in the studies, but rather play. In that way, you can better discern what each is naturally directed towards (537a) I strongly agree that education is being forced upon the youth of today. Education should not be something our youth fear. Children should not get up in the morning and dread going to school. The schools should be educating our children; they should be empowering our youth to be independent thinkers and teaching our children how to be compassionate functioning members of society. For an example, Colorado and Washington have passed laws for the legalizing the recreational use of marijuana (Rosenkraz, 2016). The United States has been fighting a war with drug for 41 years. The estimated costs so far is about 2.5 trillion dollars (Dovan, 2016). Therefore, that information shows why Americans are debating about the legalization of drugs. Many Americans do not favor the cause of drug legalization, but there are minority who disagree. I am one of the minority whom does favor the cause of drug legalization. My goal in this paper is to give my opinion and information to show why I do favor the legalization of drugs. In the article, 14 Years After Decriminalizing All Drugs, Here s What Portugal Looks Like, it discussed how Portuguese government decriminalized all drugs. The country of Portugal has been under the decriminalization for fourteen years now and stated that they have been doing better than ever before (Zeeshanaleem, 2016). For example, there is no intense increase in crime for drug use. The number of people arrested and sent to criminal courts for drug offenses declined by more than 60 percent since decriminalization. Is Kubla Khan challenging God by recreating heaven, or is this simply to highlight the God like qualities of Kubla Khan? The first stanza sets the tone, theme and location of the poem. Most of this is achieved in the first five lines. The rhyme pattern makes the first five lines almost independent of the rest of the stanza and the indentation of the fifth line marks the change in pace that can be seen between the two halves of the first stanza. Inn the second half of this stanza, the rhyme scheme is changed and this has a noticeable effect on the stanza as a whole. It creates a definition between the broad description of Xanadu in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second half of this stanza describes the pleasure dome. The poet continues his use of strange, mystical language, as he refers to the gardens and the blossoming, incense bearing trees. Soft consonants reflect the subject matter, such as sinuous rills and sunny spots of greenery . There is repetition of the e sound, which places emphasis on the last word. Specifically, on the first syllable of the last word, green . This is to leave the reader with the desired impression of the pleasure dome. It s a natural place, similar to the popular notion of Eden. The second verse immediately contrasts the first using harsh words like chasm and savage . There is a very strong distinction between the beautiful landscape described in the first stanza, and the wild, destructive atmosphere of the second. The reference to the deep chasm arouses connotations of hell, and this is reinforced as ideas of enchantment several lines later. By explicitly referring to enchantment, instead of hinting at it, as was done in the first verse, Coleridge would have created a clear message that this place was evil, compared to the beauty of the pleasure dome. A modern audience may not see this explicit reference to enchantment as an indication of evil, but in the 1700 s ideas of mysticism and witchcraft had far more importance. The idea that the ... • 24. Review Of Billie Holiday s Song Strange Fruit Protest Music Assignment For this assignment, I chose the song Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday. She first performed this song in 1939, several years after the Civil War took place, but before the end of the Jim Crow South. Billie Holiday was born in the North, which was more supportive of equality between the races, but she was African American, and this was something that affected her life, even if she did not live in the South. This song is a protest song, subtle as it may be, against lynching and the Jim Crow Laws. It describes the lynching, and what can be seen after this deed is performed. Using imagery and metaphors, she demonstrates the wrongs of the Jim Crow South and lynching. This song was inducted into the Grammy Hall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the very first line of the song states Southern trees bear strange fruit , referring to the men being lynched to strange fruit. They are hanging from the tree, and they are strange fruit because that is not something that a tree produces. This however is a subtle metaphor for this action. A few lines down, she sings Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze , which is clearly about lynching. After this, Billie s song goes, Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh. Then the sudden smell of burning flesh , which shows a contrast between the peace and calm, and then the abrupt disruption of nature by the white men. She is obviously putting the smell in a negative light by describing the sweet flowers first, and how the overbearing smell disturbed it. The final important line is Here is fruit for the crows to pluck , which is referring to the Jim Crow South and the white men that take part in the lynching. They literally pick out someone that they do not like just because of the color of their skin and they lynch them. Billie Holiday s song ends with here is a strange and bitter crop , which still compares African American men to crops that have been picked (lynched), and after that they are just left there and no one gives another thought about ... A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare is a play best known in the Shakespearian world for being a comedy play. This play has entertained countless audiences over a span of many centuries. A Midsummer Night s Dream is about two pairs of lovers that escape to the forest in order to make love for one another. While doing so, fairies in the forest create chaos which causes the lover to be confused in who they truly love. The misinterpretation on their identity relates to the major theme of the play which is love versus lust and reality versus illusions. The language the Shakespeare chose to use in the play to create an interesting plotline creates humor as well as entertaining the audience. Among the language use, the literary devices that are most prominent to make the play humorous are dramatic irony, enjambment, and imagery. These devices not only entertain and create humor for the audience but also help develop a plotline in which many are interested in. Dramatic irony is one of the most evident devices used in the play. The term dramatic irony is defined as an idea/ plot that the reader or audience knows off in a story or play but the character in the play do not. Aristotle, Using Oedipus as an ideal model, says that a tragic hero must be an important or influential man who has a lapse in judgment. Who then must suffer the consequences of his actions. The audience must learn a lesson from the tragic hero; a lesson of what happens when great men fall from their social or political positions. The tragic hero needs his errors in judgment for a phenomenal effect of audience realization to occur. Oedipus tries to prevent his terrible fate from occurring after it is prophesized to Laius, his father, early on; he leaves the city of his foster parents as a preventative measure. Oedipus is being punished for his parents actions. His birth parents once set out to seek the advice of the Delphi Oracle but the advice was gloom. They were told never to have children, but in spite of the warning Oedipus was born. Therefore from the beginning Oedipus is a tragic hero, his birth presents his destiny to result in tragedy. As with most tragedies Oedipus birth was noble which made his fall more intriguing to the audience. What use are my eyes to me, who could never See anything pleasant again? Because the culture of many Indian tribes differed greatly from the United States, there were conflicts between whites and Indians. First off, the Cheyenne had conflicts within their own tribe in the beginning. Some of their tribal chiefs fought over various subjects and these arguments led to the split of the tribe. Globalization, Technology, And Political Economic Change Globalization, Technology, and Political Economic Change in the Modern Era The institutions which characterize modern European and American political economies have existed since the Great Depression. These institutions were established to set formal rules dictating how economic agents interact and how governments organize these agents. By examining these institutions and the coalitional relationships and complementarities that they form, economists David Soskice and Peter Hall identify two organizational forms, which they term two varieties of capitalism (VoC) the coordinated market economy (CME), which describes Germany and other states with centralized wage setting, and the liberal market economy (LME), representative of the United States where individual actors and market forces set wages . However, international economic and technological changes are altering the economic landscape, exemplified by growing wealth inequality, and how nations interact, potentially redefining the institutions by which these economies are identified. Globalization is defined as increasing integration of economic institutions, decreasing costs of communication and liberating trade . The effect of body composition, size and age on the regulation of glucose in fasting individuals Abstract: Glucose homeostasis is the process in which the body regulates glucose by secreting hormones such as insulin and glucagon from the pancreas. It is controlled by a mechanism known as a negative feedback loop. The experiment compares the blood glucose levels of three fasting individuals at several intervals within 120 minutes, body measurements such as BMI and body fat percentage were also recorded. Sample 1 and the experimental sample had similar blood glucose up until the readings taken at 60 minutes however from there onward sample 1 did not regulate glucose as well as the experimental sample. Sample 2 exhibited high blood glucose levels at every reading, showing that they do not regulate glucose properly. In comparison to the other subjects sample 2 is the oldest, has the highest BMI value and the largest waist to hip ratio, in conclusion body composition plays an important role on how the body regulates glucose. Introduction: Glucose is a key source of energy for much of the cells, tissues and organs within the body. Perry Buck, a republican from Windsor, Colorado, stated in support of a bill that would cut the tampon tax in Colorado, I m happy if they exempt the male hygiene products, to me, for the government to be picking winners and losers, I m not crazy about that at all. Buck said this in context inferring that removing the sales tax on items such as men s razors and razor blades would level the field between sales tax placed on products specifically meant for women or men (Stice). There are two issues with this solution. One being that women will then want the sales tax removed from their razors and razor blades as well, putting men behind in what seems to be some sort of government taxation game. This game would then cause a slippery slope of requests for sales tax cuts on any number of male or female specific products. The second issue being that in no way are razors an absolute necessity. Razors are a clear want, not a need. It is not fair to compare a woman s need for a sanitary napkin to a man s want for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Development Of Human Development Essay Human Development in Children aged 11years Human development refers to the biological and psychological development in the human being throughout the lifespan. It consists of the development from infancy, childhood and adolescence to adulthood. In this essay I will analyse two practiced based experiences to demonstrate my understanding of human development. For my first practiced based experience, I will be drawing on Lev Vygotsky s Sociocultural Development Theory. His key concepts of The Zone of Proximal Development, More Knowledgeable Others, and Internalisation. For my second practiced based experience I will draw on Erik Erikson s Theory of Identity Development. His key concept of psychosocial development stages. My first experience concerns an 11year old girl named Ella. I was sitting in the library with Ella after she had completed her E asTTle testing. While we were waiting to head back to the classroom Ella was completing a math s project. She explained to me that she was in a higher learning level math s group and was completing a math s badge. Mrs. Jones head of math s for year 7/8 is assisting Ella with her math s badge and told me that Ella is doing extremely well. My second experience was observing a group of 5 girls that had gone outside to practice their presentation of an Anzac day story to be delivered before their peers. When one of the girls proceeded to deliver her part of the presentation, Katy another of the girls in the group sidled up to her, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
