What Is The Relationship Between Sir Gawain And The Green...
Knights and shining armor, is a modern day description of knights. These knights road on horseback,

knights obeyed by. The article Nighthood and Chivalry, defines it by, In modern English, chivalry
means the ideals, virtues, or characteristics of knights, (Velde). There is one specific knight who
shows this code in the story, Sir Gawain and The Green Knight. The knight is Gawain, a noble and
courageous man who makes a deal with the Green Knight. The story Sir Gawain and The Green
Knight shows chivalry by respect, strength, and honesty.

In the story, he and the Green Knight have a deal where Gawain can either cut the Green Knight s
head, or slice it completely off. Whichever he chooses, Gawain must find the Green Knight a year
later and the Green Knight gets to return the favor . Furthermore, the story explains, Gawain grips his
ax and gathers it aloft...brought it down deftly upon the bare neck...and cut the flesh cleanly and clove
it in twain...the head was hewn off and fell to the floor, (page 176, lines 192 198). Gawain decides to
slice off the Green Knight s head; however, the Green Knight is still alive, for he is magical. Although
he is still alive, Gawain has to use his strength to slice the Green Knight s head off. This is just one
more way Gawain shows chivalry, through strength.
The story also mentions the idea of chivalry by displaying honesty. Honesty, once again, is one of the
main factors in the knight s code. In the article, The Tenets of Chivalry The Knights Codeen, lightens,
A Knight doesn t make promises lightly, but once he gives his word, he always keeps it, (VR

heads to the knight s house. Before he does so, king Arthur has a celebration for Gawain winning the
challenge. He then informs Gawain, Now

Bagley Meaning
The article by Robert Bagley Meaning and Explanation deals with the problem of meaning
identification of the artworks elements. The piece of writing focuses on the analysis of the
interpretation of the decorative elements on the Chinese ritual bronzes. This issue has caused
numerous discussions that seek to come up with a single idea concerning the question whether those
religious vessels have the meaning or they are just decorations with no symbolic meaning at all. With
regard to this, in this article, the author rebuts the idea expressed by K.C. Chang, who believes that
every religion connected decoration should have a meaning and obligatory represent the ideology of
the people. Robert Bagley provides substantial evidence in terms of sharing ... Show more content on

The problem with the pieces of art that were under analysis was that there was a lack of textual
evidence concerning the value of those ritual vessels as well as of other artworks that Bagley uses to
develop his argument. Nevertheless, such approach allows him to indicate the weaknesses in the
reasoning and, in this way, make his reasoning stronger. For example, Bagley puts an emphasis on the
need to consider not only the potential symbolism of the painted elements but also to research the
history of the elements and how they were used before. Bagley writes, No inventory of meanings will
ever be enough to explain the appearance of the Lindisfarne page or the appearance of a Shang bronze
, and he expresses reasonable claim here defending the idea of decorative value of respective elements
(8). If the meaning of the ornaments was only characterized by symbolism and devoted to the beliefs
expression, there would be no place for changes in the use of ornaments in definite time or otherwise.
Nevertheless, the change of beliefs system did not always result in the change of decoration that were
used. For instance, the description of the Erligang phase with the painted animals could not be applied
to the pre Anyang bronzes showing no presence of the same images, as Bagley claims in his work (22
23). Respectively, the issue of the meaning of the elements should be replaced with the issue of their

Nationalism And National Identity
Nationalism is a source of modernization and political legitimacy, especially in Latin American
countries such as Nicaragua, Argentina, and Mexico. An inclusive national identity can serve as a
means for the development of belonging, and this globally acclaimed notion of diversity is attractive
for nations struggling to find their footing in the international community. Looking towards the future,
the key to achieving this inclusion is the use of culture, specifically employing music as a tool of
integration. However, the decisive variable here is adolescents. Though these popular music forms
may be the music of the people, they are ultimately dictated by the youth. In modern times, music is
integral for youth as they delve into discourses of identity and equality, so focusing in on marginalized
youth gives the government an opportunity to explore attitudes and national inclusion among
individuals who are in a critical period of development. Even though teens are influenced by their
parents beliefs during childhood before advancing their own views, youth are ultimately the starting
point for incorporating ostracized groups into nationalist discourses because they are the developers
and executors of music movements. Furthermore, the attitudes of young people regarding inclusion
and exclusion provide an indication for the sustainability of such diverse national identities in the
future.
In Nicaragua, discourses of identity became prominent following the success of the

Taking a Look at X-Rays
The first human x ray was taken and discovered by German scientist Wilhelm Roentgen s first
experiment with cathode tube rays. The photo taken was the hand of his wife, Bertha. On the photo
you can see a clear view of her hand through the flesh and bone. The first human X ray was an
amazing discovery. Numerous people including scientists, and inventors were so fascinated by the
discovery that they started to experiment with cathode tube rays. But even so, x rays have made many
contributions to the world from industrial purposes before medical purposes. Physicians used x rays
for medical related injuries and they have progressed into new technology such as smaller machines
and better quality of photographs. X rays in the 1800 were used for industrial purposes, for an
industrial (not medical) application (NDT Resource Center). In 1913, X ray tubes were changed when
William Coolidge designed a high vacuum (NDT). The vacuum tubes were a reliable source and
operated up to 100,000 volts of energy (NDT). In 1922, the industrial radiography moved forward.
200,000 volts of X ray tubes that produced thick steel parts were manufactured in a little amount of
time (NDT). In 1931, volt X rays moved up to 1,000,000, the generators helped the industrial
radiography with an intense and useful tool (NDT). The use of radiography in the 1930 was not

Essay about Card Report- The Glass Menagerie
Card Report: The Glass Menagerie Conflict The major conflict in The Glass Menagerie is the feeling
of hopelessness that each of the Wingfield s struggles with. Amanda s hopelessness comes from the
feeling that she isn t as important as she once was, as though her fame/glory is slowly fading away. It
is this fear that causes her to push Laura to become more socially accepted and popular with others.
Laura is extremely afraid of seeing Jim O Connor, and beneath that we can see her insecurities about
her physical appearance and her fear of being able to be a productive member of society. Tom s desire
to create poetry stems from his fear of being stuck in a job where he feels he won t make a difference,
that isn t taking him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amanda then decides that her daughter s only shot at life, and the family s only shot at being
financially secure, is to marry Laura to someone prominent in the community. Amanda talks to Tom
about potential matches for Laura, and eventually he decides that Jim O Connor is a good candidate.
What both Tom and Amanda are unaware of is Laura s long time crush on Jim O Connor. This is
where things really start to get complicated. When Laura finally comes forward and steps out of her
shell for a moment to dance and talk with Jim, her favorite glass unicorn s horn is broken in the
process, leaving it a normal looking horse. Protagonist Tom Wingfield is the protagonist in this play,
as the sole provider for his mother/sister and his own struggles with his reality. Exposition As we meet
Tom, Laura, and Amanda, we learn certain things about each of their behavior from the beginning. We
learn that Tom has been getting drunk and going to the movies, of which he is often scolded for. He
shows us that it s because he hates his life. Laura, on the other hand, has been allowing her shyness to
have control over and ruin her life. Amanda spends much of her time discussing the past, as though
her glory days were past and all she has left to hold onto are her memories. Within these events, there
is foreshadowing leading up to each situation.

Hope In Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
Hope is an extremely valued quality to many people, being able to dream and hope of new situations
can keep individuals going. This quality is able to keep people extremely motivated when they are
facing incredibly heartbreaking and difficult situations. The pilot in this excerpt shows immense
amounts of hope in multiple different ways. This pilot is so ecstatic when they are able to get the
aeroplane up and running. Their hope and motivation pushed the pilot and those with them to create a
way for them to escape their current status. When they were able to get the aeroplane working they got
such high hopes of a chance to escape and be free from their horrible situation. Due to their
determination they were able to fix what was ruined, thus giving the pilot and those with them the
hope and chance to get back to their lives, loved ones and family. ... Show more content on

Before Andy was sent to Shawshank he hid a key under a rock that opened a safety deposit box which
contained a new identity. Andy shows tremendous amounts of hope throughout the story that the rock
and key would still be where he left it. His hope in finding this key lead him to fantasize and hope of a
new life he could create when he escapes. Andy longs for this new life that he could create for himself
and Red in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. These are both strong examples of where Andy Dufesne expresses
his hope but the best example is that if Andy truly had no hope, he would have never escaped. Hope is

Brutality and Deceit in A Streetcar Named Desire Essay
A Streetcar Named Desire is a socially challenging play in light of the way in which Tennessee
Williams depicts the capacity of human nature for brutality and deceit. He takes the viewpoint that, no
matter how structured or civilized society is, all people will rely on their natural animal instincts, such
as dominance and deception, to get themselves out of trouble at some stage in life. William s has
created three main characters, Blanche Dubois, Stella Kowalski and Stanley Kowalski. Each of these
characters is equally as civilized as the next, yet all are guilty of acts of savagery on different levels.
Throughout the play Williams symbolically relates these three characters to animals, savages, through
the disclosure of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, Stanley rapes Blanche because he has tried and tried to keep her down to his level (Kagan 26)
but she cannot go there. The rape is his way of getting her there. In the powerful scene where Stanley
loses total control of his actions and strikes the person whom he has sworn to protect, love and
cherish, William s shows Stanley s lack of control and hatred of the new threat in his life, Blanche.
What makes this scene so important to the topic is the way that the three characters react once the
party has broken up. Blanche is in her usual state of panic; Stella has retreated upstairs, while Stanley
stumbles around calling out Steeelllaaa in a drunken sweaty animal like manner. Surprisingly Stella
answers her mate s calls and embraces him, the two of them exchanging words of compassion and
kisses. Stanley then picks up Stella and carries her off to his den to make love, which is Stanley s way
of apologizing. Stanley has to be the dominant male figure in all his relationships, not only with Stella
and Blanche, but with his friends as well. He is a leader and instantly rises to the challenge whenever
his status is threatened.
Williams uses a different type of savagery in Blanche s character. Blanche is more deceptive and
exaggerated than Stanley, trying to hide the effects of her hard life from others through constant
bathing, avoiding bright lights and by lying, and from herself, by drinking.

Sloth In Henry Fairlie s The Seven Deadly Sins Today
Change the channels for an hour or two
Sloth (or Acedia), one of the 7 deadly sins in the Christian tradition, can be generally defined as
physically and emotionally shirking one s duties. Henry Fairlie, in The Seven Deadly Sins Today ,
says that Sloth is a state of dejection that gives rise to sluggishness...a poisoning of the will (Fairlie
113). It is this very state that Green Day describes so aptly in their debut single Longview .
Longview describes the life of the slothful person. In the first few lines the slothful person admits to
himself, I m fucking lazy (Armstrong). This general attitude pervades the entire song and the worst
part of the slothful person in Longview is that he understands this is a dejected state of his own
making. He is in a house with unlocked doors but knows that he has essentially locked the door to my
own cell (Armstrong). This is consistent with Fairlie s understanding of the Christian sin. In the same
way the slothful person in the song locks himself away, so does sloth ... Show more content on

Failing to love a good according to its proper measures and failing to carry out corresponding
obligations (sloth) can lead a person, as it does in the song, to seek another distraction, one that
perhaps does not require anything of them. Instead of looking for a job, as his mother requests, the
slothful person in Longview smokes, gets high, and masturbates. Getting high (in my experience at
least) tends to contribute to a state of slothfulness and encourages the shirking of one s obligations.
The masturbation part however, seems to fall under another deadly sin, the sin of lust. Seeking sexual
pleasures in the wrong sort of way and improperly loving persons as the man in Longview is doing
appears to be a symptom of lust. In this way Longview shows the relation between sloth and lust and
how easily one can lead to

Internal And External Factors Of European Integration
Please think about the interference of internal (European) and external (global) factors, shaping
European integration? How were they related? Give one or two examples! In a very broad sense, the
ideas of a unified Europe can be found throughout centuries preceeding the World War II: Byzantine
Empire, Roman Empire, French Empire, Nazi Germany and others whose common feature is unity
imposed on people by force. A more peaceful unification was achieved through poltical marriage: In a
very general sense, we can find the »European spirit« emerging in the ages of Perikleanean Athens
(480 430 B.C.) and later during the era of the Roman Empire (100 B.C. 100). The idea was renewed
during the Middle Ages through the Sacrum Imperium Romanum and the consideration about the

The rise in living standards targeted by the Rome Treaty made those nations, chiefly of the South and
the Scandinavians, see the benefits of integration for their economies and this remained a key selling
point right up to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 1991 when the former Eastern Bloc states were
equally keen to join the EC. From the internal perspective, Western European states found themselves
in relations of mutual dependence after World War II. But this dependence was not in compliance with
the centrifugal character of their sovereignty. The pressure of common needs and interests finally
stimulated the recognition of Western European states, that the principle of the national sovereignty
already exhausted its utility. States were forced to limit their sovereignty rights and move them to the
supranational organisations It was important, especially for the French, that Germany be contained
and controlled. The ECSC brought these two nations together with shared resources and has led to

Black Like Me, By John Howard Griffin
Over fifty years ago, a Texan named John Howard Griffin decided to start a revolutionary experiment
to change the color of his skin and experience racism in the South firsthand. While considered
extremely controversial at the time, the arguments and teachings of Griffin in his book, Black Like
Me, are still scrutinized and discussed today. The book has continued to enlighten readers to the
oppressive, violent racism in America, and aided them in realizing that racism, while it may be hidden,
is still prevalent today. It has encouraged a new generation to work towards equality, while warning
about the dangers of supremacy, to progressively improve society for all. Readers are exposed to the
fact that many deny the existence of racism by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it may be harmless, it still exists today. The idea that someone is different will subconsciously
make one act different, as Banaji experiences (Vedantam). Griffin too experiences this, when he is
hitchhiking and white males are offering him rides; he is astounded that they would ask such
provoking and private questions about his personal life. Griffin realizes that they would not ask the
same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a black man, they see
them as subhuman (Griffin 86). Many would believe it is not a racist act, as the white men are helping
them and they are not harming them. However, by treating them so rudely and cruelly, while it may be
unconsciously, they are affecting them psychologically, which is possible to do in many ways.
As society has progressed towards non violence, racism has changed into a different form, with
harsher psychological effects. A main cause of this psychological effect of racism is the stereotyping
that society has accepted as normal (Anderson). Although it may be unintentional, it is easy to deny
stereotyping exists, but difficult to prove that it does not exist. As Griffin recounts, white society had
everything sewed up. If you didn t...say yes, you were in deep trouble. If you did, then you allowed
[them] to go...on believing in the stereotype (Griffin 167). He explains the idea society had created of
a good Negro and a bad Negro, and reveals that African Americans

White nationalism is an umbrella term to describe the ideology that calls for the creation of an all

My Life Reflection
1999, a time for some people where Y2K was encroaching, a time for others where the famous films
Sixth Sense, The Matrix and the beloved Disney film Tarzan was their favorite movie and not to
mention definitely a time where we could go to the grocery store and not spend a fortune at checkout.
However, for me, this particular year, especially December 7 ,1999, was the worst day of my life. My
life changed when my brother s heart stopped beating. It is easier to emotionally adjust and understand
when older or sick loved ones die. The comfort of knowing they are in a better place soon or
immediately follows after their death. But when a child just a few months shy of 11 dies suddenly,
without a simple or plausible explanation, life seems backwards. I was only six when we put my older
brother in the ground. His death was my greatest adversity, but it also facilitated a new intellectual
framework, that even now at twenty four years old, I hold dear. Immediately following, I began to
question everything. When I say everything, I most certainly mean, the word why became my favorite
response to statements or opinions. I no longer took any information at face value. I needed to exercise
my knowledge craving for why things happen, what variables take part in its origin, or simply where
did it come from and what can we do to help or stop this particular action. As each year passed, my

The Pact Essay
The Pact The novel The Pact which was read over the summer by Penn State students was considered
interesting to some and dull to others. I personally enjoyed the book since I could relate to the book in
more ways than one. The story takes pace in an inner city setting with three young men who become
doctors and plan to give back to the community in any way they possibly can. The three young men
are known as Sam, George and Rameck. Each of these characters posses a different personality which
contributes to the book as a whole. Throughout the book I felt connected to one character, that
character was George. George and I share similar qualities and our lifestyles can relate. One major
characteristic I found in George is his ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He constantly reminded them of the benefits of graduating from college and succeeding in what they
wanted to do. Sam and Rameck might have had other options but their plans would not be beneficial
in the long run. Some of these options included, starting a rap group, selling drugs back in their home
town, and playing basketball. These might have sounded good at first but they would only last for a
certain time. Graduating from college with that degree and helping out those in need was more of a

African Americans Have Been Victims Of Racist And...
African Americans have been victims of racist and discriminatory practices since they were forcibly
shipped to America in the 1600s (Chaney Robertson, 2013). Racism is defined as a belief system that
justifies the racial and ethnic inequality of minority members. Discrimination is a specific behavior
aimed at denying persons of a particular race equal access to societal rewards. These two heinous
attitudes and behaviors have been forcibly brought to the attention of the public by the media in
scenarios of police brutality and unequal practices toward minority individuals; specifically African
American men. Rodney King, Malice Green, Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner,
and Walter Scott are all African American men that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the verdict LA immediately exploded into violence which took the lives of 60 people and cost
the city an estimated one billion dollars in property damage (Sigelman et al., 1997). Most Americans,
both black and white were surprised about the jury verdict with 92% of blacks and 64% whites
indicated on a survey that the officers should have been convicted. Black men are constantly prime
targets of white supremacy (Johnson Bryan, 2017). In 2014, Michael Brown was gunned down in the
streets of Ferguson, Missouri by a white police officer which quickly sparked protests across the
nation (Chernega, 2016). The Governor declared Missouri in a state of emergency in fear of what may
happen after the grand jury decided on the fate of Officer Darren Wilson. After over 100 days of trial
the jury decided to not convict the officer of murder and there was an immediate response of the
public. Activists began using hashtag Black Lives Matter to bring attention to these violent incidents
as well as the continual systematic abuse of black members of society by the police. Violence, such as
this, against black males are learned though a socially instilled view of race. Society takes cues about
how to treat African American men from past and current stereotypes that often misrepresent them
(Johnson Bryan, 2017). This vilification of black boys and criminalization of their behavior leads to
the unjust killing of black men. It is clear the racism

After four hundred years of indecisive Ottoman rule, and three decades fighting the mandate of the
French, the many diverse peoples of Syria finally could call Syria their own. Yet, independence was
not synonymous with peace. Without a common enemy, the Syrian people remembered their
differences and began to squabble amongst themselves. Even now, seven decades after the formation
of the Syrian Arab Republic, peace is yet but a far flung dream. In June of 2000, then President Hafez

Mary Shelley And Emily Bronte Literary Analysis
The works of Mary Shelley and Emily Bronte have been delegated works of art for quite a long time,
and they hold a solid attach to the components of the scholarly periods that they were composed in.
What s more Frankenstein, composed by Mary Shelley, and Wuthering Heights, composed by Emily
Bronte, are both gothic fiction books. Moreover, both plots are both loaded with twists and turns
making a tension that is encased with gothic components. Shelley and Bronte both use high feelings,
extraordinary events, and climate to highlight gothic components while utilizing allegories and
striking symbolism to accomplish that.
All through their books, these two writers put an adoration story between embraced kin into their
pages. Both Shelley and Bronte utilize that sentimental affection between kin to enlighten the high

Detection And Management Of A Complex Canal Configuration
Title of the article: Detection And Management Of A Complex Canal Configuration In Mesio Buccal
Root Of Maxillary First Molar Using Three Dimensional Imaging. Abstract: This case report discusses
on the identification and management of complex canal configuration of 3 2 1 in the mesio buccal
(MB) root of maxillary left first molar. Careful attention to details in the pulpal floor, application of
knowledge of laws of orifice location along with deepening the sub pulpal groove with ultra sonic tips
helped in identifying the three MB canals. Manual scouting helped to know the anatomic
configuration and use of three dimensional imaging technique, Spiral computed tomography (SCT)
confirmed the same.SCT images showed bucco lingually wide and bulbous mesio buccal root with
three separate canals at coronal third that merged into two canals in the middle and exited as a single
canal at the apex. This article highlights the role of SCT in three dimensionally analysing the unseen
rarest canal configurations that ultimately enabled the clinician to thoroughly explore, debride and
obturate entire root canal system. Key words: Canal configuration, Maxillary first Molar, Mesio

Applying Memory Strategies Essays
Applying Memory Strategies
Memory is an internal journal or account of a previous circumstance or experience that a subject has
met. A person s ability to keep and store mentally retained impressions and information also define
memory. While information is not just naturally recorded in our brains, how one applies a theory or
theories of memory and forgetting can help to improve how a subject remembers. Memory is essential
to our everyday lives. People must recant who they are, they must recognize other people s faces, and
need to also remember how to maneuver and how to communicate. There are various models of the
way memory is composed and how it works. Although there is much diversity between the models,
they all consider memory as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last stage in memory is retrieval. It is the process of recovering data from memory storage.
Retrieval entails searching and locating the proper data and taking it out of storage, into conscious
perception where it can be used. Retrieval is also where the majority of memory obstacles happen,
obstacles such as memory loss and forgetting.
There are multiple theories about why people forget. These theories consist of the decay theory,
interference theory, consolidation failure theory, motivated forgetting theory, and the prospective
forgetting theory. Perhaps one of the most dated theories of forgetting is the decay theory. This theory
speculates that memories, if not used, will diminish with time and finally disappear altogether. The
neural trace or physiological history of an experience possibly will decay within an extremely brief
period or over massive time (Boyd, 2004). Scientists theorize that neurons diminish gradually as
subjects age, although some older memories can be more powerful than most current memories. This
is why the decay theory mostly embraces the short term memory system. Actively reciting data is
considered to be a critical factor in overcoming this short lived declination.
There are various means that can be retained to develop one s memory capacity. The decay theory
maintains that as time transcends with a memory trail that is not used, it becomes extremely complex
for that form of activity to be reactivated, or to

The Watts Music Festival
In a world of political discourse with racism and hate running rampant, a few great men and women
came together to bring unity and harmony like never before: in the form of massive music festivals. In
the late 1972, the black community came together for a concert known as Watts Summer Festival. In
1969, the largest music festival of its time was held, and was known as Woodstock. Later that year, the
Rolling Stones put together a massive free concert in San Francisco known as the Altamont Concert.
All of the concerts and music festivals were not aimed at making money or becoming famous, but
about the unity of people through the art of music. On August 20, 1972, the Watts music festival was
held in Los Angelas. This was a festival put together by the Stax recording company in order to honor
the men, women, and children who were devastated in the riots in Watts, a primarily African American
community. Performers in this eight hour festival included James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Isaac Hayes,
the late Harmonica Fats, WAR, Richard Pryor, Nancy Wilson, Gil Scott Heron, Barry White, the Watts
Prophets, Charles Wright and the 103rd Street Rhythm Band and the Staple Singers. The film, ...

horror. We never think to add up the little snack size candy bar here and the 2 cookies to actually see
the major impact it is having on our diets. The best way to achieve a healthy lifestyle, as far as our
diets go, is eating more fruits and vegetables. We all know it, so why do we head for the potato chips

How Does Maya Angelou Relate To Racism
Maya Angelou and the Theme of Racism
Poems provide a new insight and portray many meanings. Maya Angelou, born in 1928, was a highly
achieved, versatile woman whom is an author, poet, dancer, and actress. In her poems and in life,
racism is integrated. This is seen in Angelou s familial and other life experiences, the literary devices
seen in Still I Rise, and the extension of the metaphor in Caged Bird.
Maya Angelou was born in St. Louis, MO and soon later moved to a segregated part of AK, known as
Stamps. This relocation was because of her parents divorce and Angelou was only 3 when it
happened. When this 7 year old girl was visiting her mother back in MO, she suffered at the hands of a

mother s boyfriend. As a result of this crime , Maya s uncles killed this man. This man was able to be

Women have been the most discriminated against group of people in the entire history of humankind.
They have been abused, held back in society, and oftentimes restricted to the home life, leading dull,
meaningless lives while men make sure the world goes round. It seems strange that half of the world s

like second class citizens. Only in the past 100 years or so have women started to win an equal place

Madame Pernelle knows her station in life as set forth by society. The reader can assume that she is an

Greenhouse Gas Pollution
In the United States, the two largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions are transportation and
electricity. Although limiting the emissions from electricity will be important in the future,
transportation would be much easier to fix now. Greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon dioxide,
water vapor and nitrous oxide not only pollute the air we breathe, but they also store energy that could
be causing climate change. These molecules trap heat from leaving our atmosphere which is believed
to cause the earths increase in heat. Most Americans see climate change to be an issue that should be
acted on, and since greenhouse gases could be causing climate change the emissions of these gases
need to be limited. Recent studies show that transportation produces nearly 27% of greenhouse gases
in the United States (Sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 2017). In addition, the leading producer
within the transportation category is light duty vehicles. Many people say that airplanes and ships are
to blame for the majority of greenhouse gas production in transportation, but the majority of the
pollution actually comes from the cars Americans drive every day (Fast Facts on Transportation
Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 2015). The United States government needs to take charge and make
changes that will help limit the production of greenhouse gases. To fix these issues, the government
could limit the cars that citizens are allowed to own or change existing tax laws to benefit drivers of

intentions. Despite Friar s good intentions, his secrecy about the marriage and the following events is
irresponsible and leads to the deaths of the lovers. When the lovers are both dead, Friar finally
understands his mistakes and starts by expressing, I married them and their stol n marriage day/ Was
Tybalt s doomsday, whose untimely death banished [Romeo] from this city, For whom...Juliet pined
(Shakespeare.V. iii. 232 235). The phrase, their stol n marriage refers to the grave error Friar made,

Electrochemical Cells Using The Nernst Equation
INTRODUCTION The premise and focus of experiment 9 Electrochemistry was to demonstrate the
potential, in volts, that can be generated by electrochemical cells and how to calculate the theoretical
potential of those electrochemical cells using the Nernst equation. Of the electrochemical cells used,
there were two different types, voltaic and concentration. Voltaic cells are composed of two half cells
with differing electrodes and solutions that result in a spontaneous flow of electrons from one half cell
to the other half cell until equilibrium is met. In Voltaic cells, this flow of electrons is driven by redox
reactions and the reduction potential of the half cells. Concentration cells are composed of half cells
with identical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This oxidation increases the oxidation state of the atom while the reduction of an atom causing the
oxidation state to decrease. Whenever an atom is oxidized, there is a corresponding oxidizing agent
that oxidized the atom, likewise there is a corresponding reducing agent whenever an atom is reduced.
During redox reactions, the oxidized atom tends to be the reducing agent and the reduced atom tends
to be the oxidizing agent. When balancing a redox reaction, it is separated into two half reactions, the
oxidation process and the reduction process. These two half reactions are then balanced based on the
number of electrons being transferred and then combine to find the overall equation for the reaction.
Electrochemical cells are devices that can generate electrical energy through the transfer of electrons.3
They are composed of two half cells that are separated except by a circuit and a salt bridge. Each of
the half cells consist of a solution of ions, called an electrolyte, with an electrode, which is typical a
metal or a compound that is conductive, submerged in the electrolyte. Of the two electrodes in an
electrochemical cell, one is considered an anode and the other is considered the cathode. This is
determined by where oxidation and reduction is occurring in the cell. The

Freaky Economics Essay
Economics; is an important subject to understand the workings of finances. The common definition of
economics is the social science that analyzes the production, distribution and consumption of goods.
Freakonomics, the title of this book has the reader wondering what this book is about. From the title
and even the cover picture it is clear it is not your average text book on economics. Yet, the authors
have collected data and analyzed it to come to their conclusions on some unusual hypotheses. The
photo on the cover is actually a good visual of the books content, it looks like apple on the outside but
is an orange on the inside, signifying there is a hidden side of everything, just as the book subtitle
reads. Authors Steven Levitt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study of incentives is how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want
or need the same thing. (16) An incentive is simply a means of urging people to do more of a good
thing and less of a bad (17). An interesting concept the author points out is Morality, represents the
way that people would like the world to work whereas economics represents how it actually does
work (11). The authors several times oddly bring up that there is no unifying theme to the book, giving
the impression the book is not well thought out. Regardless, there are some things that tie the unusual
examples together, one being the theory of incentives as being the motivator. The other unifying
thread is that conventional wisdom is often wrong, that when looking at situations, layers need to be
peeled off and knowing what to measure and how to measure it allows for better understanding (12
13). The introduction is the last section of the book that doesn t leave the reader somewhat confused
regarding what they are reading, and if it really does relate to economics or is just quirky stories. It is
interesting to see the development of their theory about incentives, as they investigate what makes
something so attractive that sometimes people are willing to cheat and behave unethically to attain the
incentive. Levitt is able to support his hypothesis that incentives urge

Chillie Labrosse Analysis
The eighth story of Scott s Viger is titled Josephine Labrosse. From the outside, this story seems to
incite the most positive reaction. Victor s name is seemingly aptonymic in the sense that he provides
Viger, and so the family of three generations of women, with a complete familial unit. The scheming
of sending Josephine into the city recalls No. 68 Rue Alfred de Musset, but in this case the union
between Victor and Josephine is cause for celebration, until Scott addition troubles the ending to the
tale. The singing of C est dans la vill Bytown (75) is troubling indirectly. Once provided with the
lyrics this becomes all the more apparent. The lyrics of the song are as follows: It is in the town of
Bytown/Where the English resided/Where there are three pretty girls (137). This begins the tension
initiated by the song; the three pretty girls could be a reference to the three generations of women in
Josephine Labrosse. The song continues: Who are perfect in beauty/The youngest is my mistress/My
heart charmed her (138). The fact that the song is an accurate reiteration of the story means that
Josephine is the de facto mistress in the song. The term mistress usually comes with a negative
connotation; it implies the speaker s possession. The word charmed is also a cause for concern,
because it can also be read is a troubling lens. Even more, where did this chorus (75) appear from?
The fact that this illusory chorus was prepared to sing the troubling song is

Compassion In Thank You, MaAm By Langston Hughes
Compassionate people are geniuses in the art of living, more necessary to the dignity, security, and joy
of humanity than the discoveries of knowledge. Albert Einstein
Everyone has difficulties and tragedies in life, some more than others. Though when people show
compassion, it makes your spirits rise and make your challenges more bearable. In the short story,
Thank you, Ma am by Langston Hughes, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, a woman whose purse
has been an attempted target by a boy, shows the theme of compassion with an overflowing amount of
it. The boy, Roger, learns throughout the story that compassion is very important, and his true
personality is revealed by some woman he doesn t even know. At the beginning of Thank you, Ma am,
we see how just how compassionate Mrs. Jones really is. The moment she meets Roger, she tells the
boy to wash his face. Least I can do is wash your face. Are you hungry? This might not seem like a
very compassionate thing to do at first, however, she doesn t even know the boy, yet she has enough
compassion to make sure he is clean. Then, she takes the boy inside of her house! In addition, the boy,
Roger asks, You going to take me to jail? But Mrs. Jones doesn t. Maybe she sees that Roger is really
a good boy inside, so she shows compassion to bring out his true kindness. This makes me think that
he was probably trying to steal because he had to. And when Mrs. Jones asked him if he had anyone at
home, he said, No m. Mrs.

Sparta Strengths
Sparta was ruthless. Their army ruled over all others. Sparta a very violent civilization. They had the
krypteria who would go out and murder the helots. Although Sparta had a superior army, the
weaknesses of Sparta still outweigh the strengths because they were lacking in education, they were
very abusive, and they provided the boys with an awfully unfair amount of supplies.
First off, Sparta lacked very much in education. Document A mentions, Only the rudiments [basics] of
reading and writing were taught. Every child deserves the proper education, nevertheless Sparta took
that away. Spartans weren t allowed to read books or perform plays. Sparta was so wound up with
having a strong army that they didn t waste their time on an actual

The article Nighthood and Chivalry, defines it by, In modern English, chivalry means the ideals, virtues, or characteristics of knights, (Velde). There is one specific knight who shows this code in the story, Sir Gawain and The Green Knight. The knight is Gawain, a noble and courageous man who makes a deal with the Green Knight. Furthermore, the story explains, Gawain grips his ax and gathers it aloft...brought it down deftly upon the bare neck...and cut the flesh cleanly and clove it in twain...the head was hewn off and fell to the floor, (page 176, lines 192 198). Gawain decides to slice off the Green Knight s head; however, the Green Knight is still alive, for he is magical. Although he is still alive, Gawain has to use his strength to slice the Green Knight s head off. This is just one more way Gawain shows chivalry, through strength. The story also mentions the idea of chivalry by displaying honesty. Honesty, once again, is one of the main factors in the knight s code. In the article, The Tenets of Chivalry The Knights Codeen, lightens, A Knight doesn t make promises lightly, but once he gives his word, he always keeps it, (VR TechSolutions). The piece of writing focuses on the analysis of the interpretation of the decorative elements on the Chinese ritual bronzes. This issue has caused numerous discussions that seek to come up with a single idea concerning the question whether those religious vessels have the meaning or they are just decorations with no symbolic meaning at all. With regard to this, in this article, the author rebuts the idea expressed by K.C. Chang, who believes that every religion connected decoration should have a meaning and obligatory represent the ideology of the people. Robert Bagley provides substantial evidence in terms of sharing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem with the pieces of art that were under analysis was that there was a lack of textual evidence concerning the value of those ritual vessels as well as of other artworks that Bagley uses to develop his argument. Nevertheless, such approach allows him to indicate the weaknesses in the reasoning and, in this way, make his reasoning stronger. For example, Bagley puts an emphasis on the need to consider not only the potential symbolism of the painted elements but also to research the history of the elements and how they were used before. Bagley writes, No inventory of meanings will ever be enough to explain the appearance of the Lindisfarne page or the appearance of a Shang bronze , and he expresses reasonable claim here defending the idea of decorative value of respective elements (8). If the meaning of the ornaments was only characterized by symbolism and devoted to the beliefs expression, there would be no place for changes in the use of ornaments in definite time or otherwise. Nevertheless, the change of beliefs system did not always result in the change of decoration that were used. For instance, the description of the Erligang phase with the painted animals could not be applied to the pre Anyang bronzes showing no presence of the same images, as Bagley claims in his work (22 23). Respectively, the issue of the meaning of the elements should be replaced with the issue of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Nationalism And National Identity Nationalism is a source of modernization and political legitimacy, especially in Latin American countries such as Nicaragua, Argentina, and Mexico. An inclusive national identity can serve as a means for the development of belonging, and this globally acclaimed notion of diversity is attractive for nations struggling to find their footing in the international community. Looking towards the future, the key to achieving this inclusion is the use of culture, specifically employing music as a tool of integration. However, the decisive variable here is adolescents. Though these popular music forms may be the music of the people, they are ultimately dictated by the youth. In modern times, music is integral for youth as they delve into discourses of identity and equality, so focusing in on marginalized youth gives the government an opportunity to explore attitudes and national inclusion among individuals who are in a critical period of development. Even though teens are influenced by their parents beliefs during childhood before advancing their own views, youth are ultimately the starting point for incorporating ostracized groups into nationalist discourses because they are the developers and executors of music movements. Furthermore, the attitudes of young people regarding inclusion and exclusion provide an indication for the sustainability of such diverse national identities in the future. In Nicaragua, discourses of identity became prominent following the success of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The photo taken was the hand of his wife, Bertha. On the photo you can see a clear view of her hand through the flesh and bone. The first human X ray was an amazing discovery. Numerous people including scientists, and inventors were so fascinated by the discovery that they started to experiment with cathode tube rays. But even so, x rays have made many contributions to the world from industrial purposes before medical purposes. Physicians used x rays for medical related injuries and they have progressed into new technology such as smaller machines and better quality of photographs. X rays in the 1800 were used for industrial purposes, for an industrial (not medical) application (NDT Resource Center). In 1913, X ray tubes were changed when William Coolidge designed a high vacuum (NDT). The vacuum tubes were a reliable source and operated up to 100,000 volts of energy (NDT). In 1922, the industrial radiography moved forward. 200,000 volts of X ray tubes that produced thick steel parts were manufactured in a little amount of time (NDT). In 1931, volt X rays moved up to 1,000,000, the generators helped the industrial radiography with an intense and useful tool (NDT). Brutality and Deceit in A Streetcar Named Desire Essay A Streetcar Named Desire is a socially challenging play in light of the way in which Tennessee Williams depicts the capacity of human nature for brutality and deceit. He takes the viewpoint that, no matter how structured or civilized society is, all people will rely on their natural animal instincts, such as dominance and deception, to get themselves out of trouble at some stage in life. William s has created three main characters, Blanche Dubois, Stella Kowalski and Stanley Kowalski. In the powerful scene where Stanley loses total control of his actions and strikes the person whom he has sworn to protect, love and cherish, William s shows Stanley s lack of control and hatred of the new threat in his life, Blanche. What makes this scene so important to the topic is the way that the three characters react once the party has broken up. Blanche is in her usual state of panic; Stella has retreated upstairs, while Stanley stumbles around calling out Steeelllaaa in a drunken sweaty animal like manner. Surprisingly Stella answers her mate s calls and embraces him, the two of them exchanging words of compassion and kisses. Stanley then picks up Stella and carries her off to his den to make love, which is Stanley s way of apologizing. Stanley has to be the dominant male figure in all his relationships, not only with Stella and Blanche, but with his friends as well. He is a leader and instantly rises to the challenge whenever his status is threatened. Williams uses a different type of savagery in Blanche s character. Henry Fairlie, in The Seven Deadly Sins Today , says that Sloth is a state of dejection that gives rise to sluggishness...a poisoning of the will (Fairlie 113). It is this very state that Green Day describes so aptly in their debut single Longview . Longview describes the life of the slothful person. In the first few lines the slothful person admits to himself, I m fucking lazy (Armstrong). This general attitude pervades the entire song and the worst part of the slothful person in Longview is that he understands this is a dejected state of his own making. Griffin too experiences this, when he is hitchhiking and white males are offering him rides; he is astounded that they would ask such provoking and private questions about his personal life. Griffin realizes that they would not ask the same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a black man, they see them as subhuman (Griffin 86). Many would believe it is not a racist act, as the white men are helping them and they are not harming them. However, by treating them so rudely and cruelly, while it may be unconsciously, they are affecting them psychologically, which is possible to do in many ways. As society has progressed towards non violence, racism has changed into a different form, with harsher psychological effects. A main cause of this psychological effect of racism is the stereotyping that society has accepted as normal (Anderson). These theories consist of the decay theory, interference theory, consolidation failure theory, motivated forgetting theory, and the prospective forgetting theory. Perhaps one of the most dated theories of forgetting is the decay theory. This theory speculates that memories, if not used, will diminish with time and finally disappear altogether. The neural trace or physiological history of an experience possibly will decay within an extremely brief period or over massive time (Boyd, 2004). • 30. Greenhouse Gas Pollution In the United States, the two largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions are transportation and electricity. Although limiting the emissions from electricity will be important in the future, transportation would be much easier to fix now. Greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, water vapor and nitrous oxide not only pollute the air we breathe, but they also store energy that could be causing climate change. These molecules trap heat from leaving our atmosphere which is believed to cause the earths increase in heat. Most Americans see climate change to be an issue that should be acted on, and since greenhouse gases could be causing climate change the emissions of these gases need to be limited. Recent studies show that transportation produces nearly 27% of greenhouse gases in the United States (Sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 2017). In addition, the leading producer within the transportation category is light duty vehicles. Many people say that airplanes and ships are to blame for the majority of greenhouse gas production in transportation, but the majority of the pollution actually comes from the cars Americans drive every day (Fast Facts on Transportation Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 2015). Of the electrochemical cells used, there were two different types, voltaic and concentration. Voltaic cells are composed of two half cells with differing electrodes and solutions that result in a spontaneous flow of electrons from one half cell to the other half cell until equilibrium is met. In Voltaic cells, this flow of electrons is driven by redox reactions and the reduction potential of the half cells. Concentration cells are composed of half cells with identical ... When balancing a redox reaction, it is separated into two half reactions, the oxidation process and the reduction process. An interesting concept the author points out is Morality, represents the way that people would like the world to work whereas economics represents how it actually does work (11). The authors several times oddly bring up that there is no unifying theme to the book, giving the impression the book is not well thought out. Regardless, there are some things that tie the unusual examples together, one being the theory of incentives as being the motivator. The other unifying thread is that conventional wisdom is often wrong, that when looking at situations, layers need to be peeled off and knowing what to measure and how to measure it allows for better understanding (12 13). The introduction is the last section of the book that doesn t leave the reader somewhat confused regarding what they are reading, and if it really does relate to economics or is just quirky stories. Victor s name is seemingly aptonymic in the sense that he provides Viger, and so the family of three generations of women, with a complete familial unit. The scheming of sending Josephine into the city recalls No. 68 Rue Alfred de Musset, but in this case the union between Victor and Josephine is cause for celebration, until Scott addition troubles the ending to the tale. The singing of C est dans la vill Bytown (75) is troubling indirectly. Once provided with the lyrics this becomes all the more apparent. The lyrics of the song are as follows: It is in the town of Bytown/Where the English resided/Where there are three pretty girls (137). This begins the tension initiated by the song; the three pretty girls could be a reference to the three generations of women in Josephine Labrosse. The song continues: Who are perfect in beauty/The youngest is my mistress/My heart charmed her (138). The fact that the song is an accurate reiteration of the story means that Josephine is the de facto mistress in the song. The term mistress usually comes with a negative connotation; it implies the speaker s possession. The word charmed is also a cause for concern, because it can also be read is a troubling lens.
