Characteristics Of Life In Neil Gaiman s The Graveyard Book
Everyone has different personality traits. These affect how we react to people, important decisions,
and situations. You are shaped by your family, and your education. In Bod s early childhood, he was
raised and taught by the different dead people in the graveyard. Bod s life starts resembling his family,
friends, and education. He tends to take on attributes of the dead people he meets in the graveyard.
However, fortunately for Bod he has human interactions with people outside of the graveyard. Bod s
human interactions with Scarlett, Abanazer Bolger, and the bullies at school give him more
characteristics of life than death in Neil Gaiman s The Graveyard Book. Bod s first human interaction
was with Scarlett Perkins. She was a little older than he was, a little taller, and was dressed in bright
colors, yellow and pink and orange. (40) Scarlett was Bod s first exposure to life since he was a
toddler. Bod gained many human characteristics that he learned from being friends with Scarlett. She
first introduced color to Bod s life by wearing bright colored clothes. Bod wore a grey winding sheet
that made him feel dowdy and drab. Later in the novel, Silas brings Bod home some real clothes. Silas
produced a grey sweater the color of Bod s winding sheet, a pair of jeans, underwear, and shoes pale
green sneakers. (148) Silas gets Bod normal, living peoples clothes which are a characteristic of life.
His shoes are also pale green, which is the first thing with color Bod owned.

A Room With A View by E.M. Forster and The Remains of the Day by Tovah Martin
A Room with a View and The Remains of the Day are two novels which involve journeys of physical
and spiritual discovery. The main characters of the stories are dissimilar in gender, age and social
status but both experience situations and encounters which challenge their perspectives and personal
values. The authors of these books have both included references to nature and landscape to
emphasize, mirror and reinforce the reactions and emotions of their characters.
They have also used nature and landscape to highlight key events.
A Room with a View was written in 1908 and the opening chapters are set in Florence, Italy, a vibrant

Eventually both ladies have their rooms with views and Lucy throws open her windows and admires
the lights dancing over the Arno, in sharp contrast to the cypresses and Apennines, black against the
rising room. This is like a metaphoric opening of Lucy s eyes and mind in preparation for the
adventures which await her. In addition, this black and white vignette is a romantic, idyllic view of the
Arno and is in contrast with the brightly coloured, sunlit scene of the following morning, which is full
of life, movement and noise, as the Italians go about their daily routines and Lucy views the reality
which is about to alter her world for ever.
By comparison, The Remains of the Day is set in the rolling countryside of England between the two
Wars. Stevens is the old butler at Darlington Hall and he has lived his life in service, metaphorically
confined within large, country houses. He has had a sheltered, privileged life, gaining his knowledge
of England from employers, guests, staff and books, especially The Wonder of England by Mrs Jane
Symons. His present employer, Mr Farraday, an American, observes that you re always locked up in
these big houses and encourages Stevens to get out and see this beautiful country of yours . Stevens
begins his journey along routes which surprised him due to their familiarity . However, he soon
experiences a sense of unease mixed with exhilaration as the surroundings become unrecognizable.

Harley Davidson s approach to the manufacture of motorcycles creates value as raw materials evolve
into sellable products. The 40,000 square meter plant in Kansas City, Missouri is laid out in a fashion
that permits the backward integration of components within the production facility. From the

Combine that with a standard 6.2 liter V8 engine and plenty of technology, and it delivers power,
capability and style like no other. (Ford Motor Company) Matco Tools has also released limited
edition double and triple bay toolboxes that feature the branding of Harley Davidson. Other branding
includes movie placement such as in the recent release of Captain America, where a 1942 WLA
Liberator is featured in the movie. The firm s recent addition of the HD 1 Customization service offer
customers to find not only a Harley Davidson motorcycle, but also provide fitting services based upon
body type, accessory and paint variations. Attempting to appeal to a younger market segment that
leans toward sport bikes and off road bikes, the Company has released the Dark Custom series
designed to appeal to young adults ages 18 34. The Dark Custom series is able to use similar
manufacturing processes with aesthetic differences such as the use of less chrome and different paint
schemes that are easily changed at the factory level.
For customers seeking the ultimate in personalization, Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) produces
motorcycles that are hand made. Where the Kansas City plant can produce 50,000 V Rods per day in
standard production, each CVO technician produces 2 motorcycles per day. This level of production,
though dramatically less efficient,

Compare And Contrast Byrd And Richard Fethorne
William Byrd and Richard Frethorne were two men living in the North American colonies during the
1600 and1700 s. William Byrd was a wealthy and respected plantation owner in Virginia, while during
the same time period Richard Frethorne was living as a very poor indentured servant in Virginia. Even
though the two lifestyles these men lived were complete opposites and have many differences, they
share many common issues. William Byrd and Richard Frethorne lived two very different lives. Byrd
was a very wealthy plantation owner that often times showed off his money. In his free time, Byrd
played games such as cricket and billiards which were games he played with other men. When these
games were played, wagers were often put into play alongside these games. Frethorne was a very poor
indentured servant that often was in need of many necessities. Frethorne does not have clothes of his
own besides one old suit that is falling apart. He only owned one pair of shoes, one pair of stockings,
one cap, and only two collars. While Frethorne is struggling for survival Byrd is living the high life
with money to spend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these men were faced with challenges such as sickness and disease. Byrd s plantation had a
sickness going around his family and his slaves; this sickness caused 17 deaths. On the plantation that
Frethorne worked for a disease was spreading which caused more than half of their population to die.
Both of these men were faced with financial issues at least once in their lives. Byrd suffered a
financial loss after Captain Morgan s ship sank due to a storm. Frethorne was faced with financial
issues as well because he was living as an indentured servant and had little to no money. Both of these
men have gone through some of the same issues, whether it be issues they face their entire life or for a

Structuralism and Reality in Wrestling Essay
When discussing structuralism, I find that it takes a realistic viewpoint of how the world is
represented, as we essentially are awash in concepts and signs via the structures of communication
and language. In this week s readings I found more depth to the ideas behind structuralism that my
previous exposures, especially when looking to Roland Barthes The World of Wrestling from his
collection Mythologies. The World of Wrestling provided ample insight into how the structuralist idea
of difference plays into deriving meaning (or meanings) from literature in innumerable ways,
especially in how the reception of specific mythemes and signifiers evoke structurally conditioned
responses from the public.
One of the most important concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Livre, or book, cannot represent the actual physical existence of the book, rather it acts as a pointer
toward the idea of the real object or concept out in the world. So thus, each utterance in a language
points to a concrete concept, and how that concept is understood through language reflects on how a
speaker (or writer, artist, comedian, dancer, so on; all are forms of expression and/or language) views
and interprets the world based on their given structural understanding of the world. Each reader
assumes, due to prior exposure to the structure of their given communication (be it French, English,
American Sign Language), that when the signifier appears, the built in, tag along concept will follow.
Extending this to literature each text is a speech act in its own right. Looking at an individual text, as
the New Critics would, would equate evaluating his pitch and equating it to meaning. In this case an
individual text is an utterance within the system, an example of parole (Bressler 99). However,
looking at the text for how it expresses meaning, how it works on its audiences preconceptions (or
lack thereof) exposes the underlying structures at play, not only in the world of literature, but in how

Ketamine Essay
Introduction
Chronic intake, the delayed onset of action, drug resistance and numerous side effects force the
researchers to look for the new, safe antidepressant strategies (1, 2) with rapid onset and longer time of
action.
Results obtained in the recent years give some hope that ketamine which is a global NMDAR
antagonist could be the fast and long acting novel antidepressant. Antidepressant like activity of
ketamine was shown in many preclinical studies (1 7). The single non anesthetic dose of ketamine
reversed symptoms of major depression (MDD) in clinical conditions (8). These antidepressant effects
of ketamine also occurred in patients who suffered from resistant depression or suicidal ideations (9
12). Despite a successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the molecular level of explanation these processes are dependent on the interplay between
glutamate receptors, Ca2+ channels, the increase of intracellular Ca2+ levels, Ca2+ dependent
proteins like Akt, ERK, mTOR and neurotrophins such as brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)
(24, 25).
Because Ca2+ is the central point for all mentioned processes, we focused our interests on hyperforin
which is Ca2+ modulator. Hyperforin is the natural and biologically active compound extracted from
Hypericum Perforatum (St John Wort) (26). The St John Wort extract and hyperforin attenuated
symptoms of mild to moderate depression in a few clinical trials. Both extract and hyperforin
displayed antidepressant like activity in preclinical studies (27, 28).
From molecular perspective, hyperforin has multidirectional mechanisms of action. It acts on ligand
gated (GABA, NMDA and AMPA receptors) (29, 30) and voltage gated channels (Ca2+, K+, and
Na+) (29, 31). In contrast to blockade of ion transport through the plasma membrane, hyperforin can
increased an inward Ca2+ current. These processes are dose dependent and probably involved a few
different cellular events. In the details, hyperforin in in vitro studies increased the Ca2+ intracellular
level by activation of the non selective canonical transient receptor potential 6 channels (TRPC6) or
by the releasing Ca2+ from mitochondria (32 34). As has been previously shown hyperforin activates
intracellular

Due to land fragmentation, farmers with small land holding are buying tractor. Shift from joint family

farming. There is an increase in awareness among the farmers for the need of farm mechanization and
are keen to acquire tractor with the help of credit facilities from financial institutions. There is need for

A Tale Of Two Cities And The French Revolution
A Tale of Two Cities, was a story about sacrifice and revenge before and during revolutionary France.
Charles Dickens thought that if things did not change, then a violent revolution in England, similar to
the French Revolution, was possible or in the future. In A Tale of Two Cities , Charles Dickens
symbolizes the discord that the English and the French faced as he tears apart the two systems of their
society.
Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Cities in order to describe
the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest occurring in
England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it takes place is
before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence of a rapid
change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government was
functioning . France was torn apart because of the rebellions of the Bourgeoisie, against the rich
aristocrats, consequently the monarch Louis 14th. Charles Dickens went further. He conveys the idea
of the French revolution through the use of social reform along with its inevitable impact on the
individuals affected by the waves of change. Throughout history, the road to revolution is described as
an obsession to the minority group such as the American revolution in the late 18th century. It is
dangerous when a group goes down this road because the obstacle up ahead

Smartphone Addiction Research Paper
Over the years, smartphones have been more connected to our lives than ever before. Smartphone
addiction has swept the nation and is becoming a growing issue for all generations. Being addicted to
smartphones can lead to mental risks, social media addiction and problems in real world situations; be
that as it may there are some possibilities to help fix this problem. Addiction to smartphones causes
the brain to change in ways that are harmful to a person s way of life. This starts with the amount of
time spent on a phone, some research has said that if two or more hours is spent on social networking
sites younger people are more likely to report poor mental health (Galer). The more time teens spend
on their phones, the worse their mental health will be. They spend too much time on their phones to

Dbq Missouri Compromise
At first, the Compromise seemed to settle the issue; however, the alarming issue arose again when
Mexico ceded new territory to the Union. Differences between the views of the North and South led to
a deeper divide that eventually led to the Civil War. The Missouri controversy, an extremely heated
crisis between the North and South over slavery in the Louisiana territory, reached to new heights
almost as great as the time of secession in 1860. This huge debate showed just how slavery divided the
nation (Forbes). Many people knew the consequences of banning slavery, so they kept the Missouri
Compromise in place. Politicians dealt with the troubling issue carefully because it potentially could
separate the Union, and everyone knew the South would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tensions about what congress would do about slavery in the new territories increased rapidly. Lincoln,
during his presidency, explains the difference between anti and pro slavery people. He explains that
the selfish nature of man allows him to go towards slavery, but man s nature to be just and right allows
him to oppose slavery (Lincoln). Wilmot tried to pass a law called the Wilmot proviso, a law
forbidding slavery in the new territories ceded by Mexico. A wild debate over this law ensued between
the North and South (Remini). One congressman said that the House sounded like a bomb went off
because of all of the excitement in the room at the same time (Remini). Aggravated politicians got him
out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New
Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased
population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. Then he created the Compromise of
1850, which allowed the state to choose whether they will enter as a slave or free state, an idea known
as popular sovereignty (Remini). California entered as a free state, but the other territories from the
Mexican cession were allowed to choose. This new Compromise worked for the Mexican cession
territory, but the Louisiana territory still remained under the control of the Missouri Compromise.
After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, violence between the North and the South ensued. In
1854, Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise
(McGill). This Act established popular sovereignty for all of the territories that want to achieve
statehood. Nebraska would enter as a free state. Kansas still wavered back and forth, on whether it
should enter as a slave or free state. Settlers from both the North and South came to live in Kansas.

The Battles Of The Korean War Essay
On June 25, 1950, a war broke out on the peninsula of North and South Korea. The causes of this war
were mostly attributed to North Korea s attempted conquest of the entire Korean peninsula. North
Korea invaded the South and thus began the Korean War. This was a war that ultimately involved the
forces of the United States and numerous other countries. The Korean War cost the lives of 2,000,000
people in only three years. This catastrophic loss of life was due to the events took place during the
war. Many, many battles took place during the Korean War.
At dawn on June 25, 1950, 90,000 soldiers were sent into the Southern Republic of Korea or South
Korea. These 90,000 men made up two thirds of the 135,000 man army of North Korea. On June ...

With a boost in morale, the UN forces continue to push forward. Soon, Pyongyang, the North Korean
capital, was captured. At this point, the end of the war appears to be in sight.
China, however, did not like the close proximity that the battles were reaching to China. China
threatened to send soldiers to assist North Korea if the United Nations didn t back off from the Yalu
River. In hopes of ending the war before Christmas, General MacArthur ignored China s warnings and
pressed forward trying to oppress North Korean forces to force them into surrendering.
On November 25, the Chinese launched a major offensive which resulted in immense casualties for
the UN forces. The U.S. 2nd and 25th divisions were defeated and were forced to retreat from the Yalu
River. After several days of fighting the forces at the river, the Chinese force the UN allies to retreat.
Once UN forces retreat, they once again become encircled by the communists and attempt to escape in
one of the most bloody and desperate actions of the war. The Chinese continued to press onward and
managed to press UN forces 50 miles south of the 38th parallel, an imaginary boundary which
separated the North and South sides of Korea.
With the aid of the Chinese, North Korean forces capture Seoul for the second time. Shortly after
however, UN forces consolidate their lines just under the 37th parallel in South Korea. On January 25,

Being A Sonographer Essay
Paragraph 1
Introduction;
Hey! Have you ever thought of becoming a sonographer? Do you even have an idea what a
sonographer is? Have you ever thought of looking into someones body and look inside their stomach?
Especially at a embryon? Well here in this paper you will find out every little thing about becoming a
sonographer.
Paragraph 2; Education
The education for this career is really simple and easy. You need to have a formal education, and an
associates degree or just a certificate of a training program. but many of the employers also require a
professional certification. It may also depend on what kind of degree you want it will depend on how
many years you will like to get profession in this career but, to get the profession of being a
sonographer it will take at least one year or two, you can go for four years if you want a master s
degree. Which will be great because you will get paid more.

Sonography has many good and bad disadvantages. One of the advantages this career has is that you
will be looking at baby s. You will be the first person to tell any mother what the baby will be a girl or
boy. You will bring joy to both parents mom and dad just by saying It s a Girl or Its a boy . Another
advantage is that you will be in touch with you patients you will have to listen to what they have to tell
you. What i m actually saying about this is that many of your patients will get emotional and you will
have to be there to support them. Just as there is advantages there is also disadvantages. One of the
disadvantages is that you may have to work over time you will be standing up 98% of the time. You
might also have to work night shifts depending on what hospital you actually get a job at. but in my
opinion i feel like being a sonographer is amazing.

A Brief Look at Operational Amplifiers
Operational amplifiers (Op Amp) have been in use for quite a long a long time now in the field of
electronics and electrical engineering. A basic Op Amp has got three connections consisting of 1
output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the two input terminals are called inverting and non
inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011). Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven that when
the voltage at both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the other side. The
image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For an ideal Op Amp the
input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source output so this means it can be used as a
buffer and an ideal source of voltage and current (Storr, 2014).Carter and Mancini (2009) noted in
their book that feedback is always necessary in this amplifier so as to reduce the gain because they
have an infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but this gain is dependent on the
amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output will be 1V. Application of the Op
Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be covered namely the integrator and
differential circuit. INTEGRATOR CIRCUITS FROM OP AMP A basic mathematical definition of
integration is the main tool used to define this type of amp circuit. In other terms the input signal is
integrated so that the outcome is the output signal. This circuit is

Persuasive Essay On To Kill A Mockingbird
Have you ever done something because everyone else was doing that thing? Have you ever bought
something because a friend or because everyone else has that thing? In To Kill a Mockingbird: The
Screenplay written by Horton Foote, Atticus Finch defends Tom Robinson an alleged rapist who was
an African American during the Great Depression. Everyone told Atticus what he was doing was
wrong, defending a black man during The Great Depression. Tom Robinson was an innocent man in
the Great Depression who s only case against him was that he was black and was seen near the scene
at the time when Mrs. Mayella was beaten. He was being unfairly tried and represented in the court
just because he was an African American during an extremely racist time in the South. Atticus saw it
different than everyone else, he was the only one willing to believe Tom Robinson when everyone else
was saying he was wrong because he was a black man. Sometimes doing the right thing happens when
everyone else is telling you are wrong. Atticus Finch Believed in Tom Robinson when no one else did.
Do what is right when everyone is telling you are wrong. When Atticus is defending people, he will do
whatever it takes to help that person out even if they can t afford his services. When Mr.Cunningham
was needing Atticus s services and couldn t afford them, Atticus came up with a way that would help
him. Mr.Cunningham brought hickory nuts to Atticus in order to pay off a legal debt. No one would
help Mr.Cunningham, but Atticus saw that he was a good man and was worth fighting for him even
though he could not pay Atticus. He was the only one willing to help the poor in a time when almost
no one had money. He is paying me for some legal work I did for him... That s the only way he can ...

Positive Role In Social Work
Social work is a practice based profession and academic discipline focusing on the principles of social
justice, human rights and equality and diversity (International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW),
2014). Furthermore, social work is a complex discipline which is underpinned by theories grounded in
social science, humanities and indigenous knowledge (IFSW, 2014). Social work has been embedded
into society as a fundamental aspect of planning person centred care for vulnerable groups (Dowling
et al, 2006). There are many schools of thought which attempt to define what constitutes a vulnerable
group within society. Richardson et al (2015) states that vulnerability arises within those individuals
who need support to address the challenges that affect their quality of life. Poverty, extremes of age,
disability, mental or physical health status and ethnicity all have the potential to contribute to
vulnerability and social exclusion of the group or individual (Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 2017). In
particular, the elderly and youths leaving care are recognised as having multiple needs and face
adversity integrating wholly into society. It is the role of the social worker to assess, plan, intervene,
implement and evaluate the care for these groups and individuals (Horner, 2009)).
Social workers play a vital role within society in supporting such people regardless of their
background. They are not only there to protect people from abuse but to also help enable individuals

The Constitution For New Zealand Essay
What should be included or excluded in a written constitution for New Zealand?
Moore (2016) emphasises the statement time for a 40 page New Zealand constitution declared by
constitutional law expert and former prime minister, Sir Geoffrey Palmer, in his article on Stuff.co.nz.
Palmer stresses that the present constitution is dangerously incomplete, obscure, fragmentary and far
too flexible (Hagen, 2016).
While there is a huge debate whether New Zealand should have a written constitution or not, it is
evident to some that the nation can benefit from forming one. With a precise and complete written
constitution, subjects and aspects crucial to New Zealand can be protected efficiently, while
simultaneously relishing the importance of existing constitutional acts in governing New Zealand.
New Zealand s resolution to examine the significance of replacing its unwritten constitution with a
written one may lead to a better managerial of important constitutional acts by highlighting the
differences between both written and unwritten constitutions.
According to TheFreeDictionary.com, constitution means fundamental law, either written or
unwritten, that explains the nature of a government by clarifying the basic principles which a society

The And The Digestive System Of The Broiler Chickens Essay
Abstract
Due to the rapid growth of broiler chickens, skeletal disorders have become a serious problem for the
poultry industry. This, in turn, leads to an unwanted expense for poultry farmers and so they seek out a
way to improve the bone strength and welfare of the birds.
Silicon (Si) is an important element to the body as it can improve bones and the immune system. This
means it can be used in diets as a cheaper alternative to calcium and phosphorous. However, there is
little understanding of the mechanisms of Si in the digestive system of the broiler chickens.
At NTU, a bioavailable silicon supplement has been produced to alleviate some of the skeletal
disorders and to further the knowledge of the interactions of Si. This project involves analysing bone
data and evaluating the effects of the novel feed supplement.
Introduction
Skeletal disorders in broiler chickens has become a major problem for the poultry industry over the
past 50 years (Toby G. Knowles, 2008). These weaknesses are due to selective breeding of the birds
which has shown to be less economical than expected for the industry and also displays an absence for
bird welfare (Bennett, Christiansen, Clifton Hadley). The pace at which the birds grow has
dramatically increased over the years to accommodate the demand for the tender meat they now
produce (Manohar, Omprakash, Kanagaraju, 2015). This in turn has led to the skeletal disorders as the
weight they gain can no longer be supported by the legs

The Arrangement Of The Staff
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
The arrangement of the staff has different affectedly in recent decades all over the world. In the year
2000, 61% of all married women over age 16 in the US were in the workforce, compared to just 41%
in 1970 (US Census Bureau, 2001); More employees are now engaged in a dual earner lifestyle where
both partners work and share responsibility for family care giving (Greenhaus et al., 2000). In fact,
recent research indicates that 85% of employees report having some day to day family responsibilities
(Bond et al., 1998). These changing demographic trends, coupled with greater family involvement by
men (Pleck, 1985) and heightened interest of employers in employee s quality of life (Zedeck Mosier,
1990) prompted a proliferation of research on the relationship between work and family roles. Interest
and concern in the interface between work and non work life, especially family life. Numerous
scholars (e.g. O Driscoll, 1996; Edwards Rothbard, 2000; Frone, 2003; Grzywacz Marks, 2000) have
observed that changing social demographics, altering family role expectations, shifting family
structure, aging workforce, as well as recent technological developments, increasing globalization, and
international business competitiveness have contributed to a blurring of boundaries between the
domains of employment and family and to greater permeability between these domains. For example,
globalization may require key employees to travel or

Light In The Scarlet Letter
Mehmet Murat Ildan once argued, a man who refuses light will remain in the darkness even by the
side of light! . Nathaniel Hawthorne exhibits the same idea of having a decision on whether light is
illuminating one s life or not in the novel The Scarlet Letter. Through changes in setting and the
amount of light within each scene, Hawthorne illustrates the emotions of the characters, highlighting
the fact that light is truth and dark is the absence of truth. Hawthorne incorporates contrast between
the presence and absence of light to reflect the moral opposition between truth against lies within
society. Pearl, whose name itself alludes to pure qualities, is continually representing innocence and

Part of her conflicts come from the punishment of having the scarlet letter, a constant reminder of her
sins. Permanently blazoned on her bosom, it forces Hester into a mental state of sustained repentance
that causes her to associate with evil. Even naive Pearl notices this connection as she comments that
the sunlight does not love Hester, as it runs away and hides itself, because it is afraid of something on
[her] bosom (180). This absence of light reinforces the notion that her society does not approve of the
truth behind Hester s act of adultery. Her physical appearances depict this judgement as her beauty...

letter always weighing her down takes tolls on her appearance in such a strong manner that the
thought of escaping the society that had labeled her as evil for so long gives her hope. She excitedly

Raphael s Last Supper
Art is a beauty that can capture the essence of something, but also can be interpreted differently
depending on an individual s perspective. Art can be expressive, but it takes an artist to create their
own definition of beauty while the audience interprets it. By using the year that Raphael s School of
Athens was created as a mark for artwork that was created before and after that time frame, I have
chosen the Last Supper as a piece that was created before and the Mona Lisa as a piece that was
created after. Each individual piece of art expresses a different idea and belief, sometimes with a
common or sometimes without a common broader significance.

certain, it has been painted during 1503 1506, but an art historian, Martin Kemp, said there was an
uncertainty with confirming the actual date of when Leonardo s piece was actually completed. Giorgio
Vasari, Leonardo s contemporary, had mentioned how it has been apiece left unfinished and was
regretted that it was never been completed in one sitting. As King Francois I invited Leonardo to work
near the king s castle, it is believed that during that time, he continued to work on this Mona Lisa
piece until 1516 or 1517. Mona Lisa is an oil painting on a poplar wood panel and it is believed that
the subject of the portrait is possibly Lisa Ghenardini the wife of Francesco del Giocondo. The
painting illustrates a woman in a half body portrait, with a distant landscape backdrop. In the painting,
it is noted that the sitter s general position is vertical, with her arms folded as a sign of a reserved

The Confederate Flag Was Removed From The Pole Of The Flag
Heritage Coopted by hate July 10th, 2015, 2,000 citizens stood around the statehouse in Columbia
South Carolina to watch as the confederate flag was removed from the pole on the grounds. The
removal of the flag had emotions raging in the South, many Southerners believing that the flag was a
symbol of heritage, while others thought it was a symbol of hate. But is the flag a symbol of hate, or
does the hate come from the people who fly a flag in a negative way? Since the flag was created in
1861, the views of the flag have been coopted into an idea of hate. The Stars and Bars was the first

Black Hole Research Paper
Black Holes A simple star with low fuel turns into a strong, powerful black hole in space with 4 times
more mass than the sun. Discovered in 1916 by Albert Einstein, a black hole is an area of space time
showing very strong effects, that nothing can escape from the black hole. Space time is the belief that
there is no time in space, so there is no aging or time whatsoever. There are three different types of
black holes. Stellar mass, supermassive, and intermediate. All three are very strong, but the
supermassive is currently the strongest reported. Not all black holes are large, but extremely powerful.
The supermassive black holes are the biggest type of black hole and most of the time are found in the
center of massive galaxies. Stellar mass black holes are formed by a star collapsing. Intermediate

The British And The American Colonies
History 2.1
What Lead to the Fractured Relationship Between the British and the American Colonies Prior to the
Boston Massacre?
Following Britain s success in the Seven Years War and the signing of a Peace with France in 1763
Britain gained control of all territory east of the Mississippi in North America. From all of this there
was a cost; the war left Britain with large military expenses debts and additional expenses of an
enlarged empire. At an attempt to solve this problem, the politicians in Britain decided to exploit the
colonial tax revenues in order to pay off the debts and increased expenses.
Britain began to tighten control in the colonies in 1763 by stooping migration of settlers westward,
this had resulted in expensive and bloody Indian wars, something that the British currently did not
need. It also allowed the British to keep control of a smaller land mass and thus make it easier to keep
an eye on all colonists. Colonial trade was tightened and colonial taxation was increased. Central
power was increased and the power of colonial assemblies decreased.
The British first brought in the Sugar Act. The Act taxed the finer things and more luxurious items
such as wine, silk, and coffee. It was the first attempt from the British to exploit colonial tax revenue
to aid the British need. Opposition from the colonies was immediate. The revenue Act was introduced
the same year meaning the British could tax the colonies to improve the revenue of the Kingdom . The

What I Learned From My Writing
Since the beginning of English 1100, I have created trends in my writing. My approach to writing,
point of view, and writing styles are similar in all of my papers. I have taken the skills I learned from
my previous experiences of writing and improved them in this class. My liberal ideas that have been
embedded in my writing since high school are shown and reflected in multiple projects that I ve
completed. Many of my grammatical errors began to stick out and I have since learned how to correct
them. English 1100 has helped me to correct grammatical errors that I had never noticed before and
has ultimately allowed me to discover why I write a particular way. I have improved my writing habits
through this class and have been able to enhance my skills to the best of my ability.
A common trend among my papers has been my sentence structure. For the most part, my sentences

writing consciously, a problem I do not have. I like that I can get right to the point which allowed me
to be more direct in stating my facts and less worried about filling my paper with fluff. By the end of
the semester, I learned to make my sentences more balanced which would allow me to have more flow

content of each sentence and how each correlated with each other. I took a skill I had coming into the

facilitate bloodletting. Leeches are often sought to be blood hungry creature that sucks the life out of a
person, yet the townspeople trust the leech to take care of their minister and give the minister remedies

character. This alludes the evil, mysterious side of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Leech became a suitable title for the chapter because it symbolizes Chillingworth s occupation a
physician and the bloodsucking relationship between Dimmesdale and Chillingworth. Chillingworth
pulls bad blood out of Dimmesdale while continuously sucking away his energy and desire to live by
pulling bad memories and guilt out of him. So Roger Chillingworth the man of skill, the kind and
friendly physician strove to go deep into his patient s bosom, delving among his principles, prying into
his recollections, and probing everything with caution touch, like a treasure seeker in a dark cavern.
(Page 83) Hawthorne uses allusion to allude the presence of Chillingworth and describe the tautness
Dimmesdale feels in Chillingworth presence. He creates a visual setting for the reader to gain more
insight. It was as if a window were thrown open, admitting a freer

Health Informatics And Population Health Management
HEALTH INFORMATICS AND POPULATION HEALTH MANAGEMENT
Data is one of the most valuable assets in any healthcare organization. The adoption and use of EHR
systems makes it possible to collect, store, and analyze more data than ever before. Through the use of
analytical tools this data is being turned into meaningful and qualitative information with which to
support the clinical, operational, and financial decisions of the healthcare facility. The process of
organizing and managing data so as to drive quality improvement efforts and business development
within the healthcare industry is known as healthcare informatics. The article, Making Data Smart:
Practical informatics is helping transform data into health intelligence, and now moving into day to

applications and technologies to support health informatics and streamline workflows, improve quality
care, and reduce expenditures.
Through the statistical processing of data, healthcare organizations can identify potential relationships

used to identify key issues, solve problems, and improve patient outcomes through focused and
effective care. In order to reap the benefits of healthcare informatics the data used must be of high

Essay about Napoleons Farwell Address Speech Analysis
Napoleon s Farewell Address To The Old Guard
A truly dramatic moment in history occurred on April 20, 1814, as Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of
France and would be ruler of Europe said goodbye to the Old Guard after his failed invasion of Russia
and defeat by the Allies.
By that time, Napoleon had ruled France and surrounding countries for twenty years. Originally an
officer in the French Army, he had risen to become Emperor among the political chaos following the
French Revolution in which the old ruling French kings and nobility had been destroyed.
Napoleon built a 500,000 strong Army, which used modern tactics and improvisation in battle to
sweep across Europe and acquire an Empire for France.
But in 1812, the seemingly invincible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soldiers of my Old Guard: I bid you farewell. For twenty years I have constantly accompanied you on
the road to honor and glory. In these latter times, as in the days of our prosperity, you have invariably
been models of courage and fidelity. With men such as you our cause could not be lost; but the war
would have been interminable; it would have been civil war, and that would have entailed deeper
misfortunes on France.
I have sacrificed all of my interests to those of the country.
I go, but you, my friends, will continue to serve France. Her happiness was my only thought. It will
still be the object of my wishes. Do not regret my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to serve
your glory. I intend to write the history of the great achievements we have performed together. Adieu,
my friends. Would I could press you all to my heart.
Napoleon Bonaparte April 20, 1814
Following this, Napoleon was sent into exile on the little island of Elba off the coast of Italy. But ten
months later, in March of 1815, he escaped back into France. Accompanied by a thousand men from
his Old Guard he marched toward Paris and gathered an army of supporters along the way.
Once again, Napoleon assumed the position of Emperor, but it lasted only 100 days until the battle of
Waterloo and was defeated by the English and Prussian Armies on June 18, 1815.
A month later he was sent into exile on the island of St. Helena off the coast of Africa. On May 5,
1821, the

Substance Abuse In Nursing Home
Most government controlled homes do not get sufficient funds, so they lack trained workers and
necessary equipment. Still, they get more help and don t prioritize money, which results in better
quality service. Chains and for profit companies use a system of rewards and sanctions for managers
and board of directors, executives must prioritize shareholder value which may compromise other
goals such as quality (Harrington 786). Another issue is that many nursing homes use antipsychotic
drugs but often times they administer them illegally, harming the patients. It was found in a recent
study that 41% of patients use antipsychotics for a long period of time. The push by pharmaceutical
companies to market their products can sometimes be the reason ... Show more content on

The research was conducted in 2007, where the researcher sampled various departments at each
facility at different times of the day. Questionnaires were given to about ten workers in each
department. The respondents were asked whether they had performed or witnessed incidents of abuse
in the past year. The study indicated that 54% reported perpetrating one or more types of abuse against
older patients in long term facilities over the past year (Factors that affect abuse). The study also found
that the risk of physical neglect and total number of maltreatment incidents became higher as the ratio
of staff and patients increased. The research determined that the acts do not involve personal motives

Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar Essays
At a point in time in the life of every person, a feeling of being trapped or stuck occurs. The poem
Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar represents the speaker s vast knowledge of the feeling of being
enclosed in a place where they are tremendously uncomfortable. The speaker explains the actions of a
bird trapped in a small cage and explains the motives behind the actions. The speaker reveals that the
song the caged bird sings is not a melody exuberating joy, but a cry begging for freedom. The title of
the poem, Sympathy , represents the feeling that the speaker has toward a bird enclosed in a cage. The
speaker relates to the bird by repeating the words I know and following them with an action of the
bird, revealing that he has also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bird then returns to his former place in the cage, the speaker emphasizing the pain in the bird s
old, old scars , imparting that the bird has attempted to escape in this manner multiple times in the
past. From the line in which the speaker says And they pulse again with a keener sting, which refers to
the bird s scars, the reader can assume that the keener sting is a fire in the bird s wings fueled by
determination to achieve freedom, and that the bird will continue attempting to escape relentlessly.
The speaker states that he knows why he beats his wing , meaning that he knows the forces that can
drive a creature to harm themselves in the process of trying to achieve something, and he has come in
contact with those forces in his life. Lastly, the speaker talks of the motive behind the caged bird s
song. When people hear birds singing in nature, or in cages, they often assume that the bird is singing
a jocose tune. People typically fail to analyze the potential emotions of the bird and its feelings toward
its environment. Rather than singing a tune of joy, the caged bird sings a tragic melody of sorrow, a
desperate cry for freedom. When the speaker says a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings , he is
alluding to God and Heaven, to which the bird directs his cries in the hope that they will be heard. The
attitude that the speaker has towards the woeful bird is, as the title says, sympathetic. The speaker is

Psycho Pass Mandatory Happiness Analysis
Psycho Pass: Mandatory Happiness is a visual novel adaptation of the popular anime with the same
name developed by 5pb and published by NIS America. Psycho Pass: Mandatory Happiness tells the
tale of a rogue A.I and the police like enforcers and inspector s tribulations stopping it. And that begs
the question, is Happiness Mandatory upon completion of Psycho Pass? DYSTOPIAN CYBERPUNK

Fourth To Sixth Crusade Summary
The Fourth to Sixth Crusade
The Fourth Crusade began in 1198, due to conflict for controls for power between Europe and
Byzantium. This changed the Crusader s mission of reclaiming Jerusalem from Egypt s command, to
overthrow Alexius IV, whose attempts to submit the Byzantine Church to Rome was met with hostility
in 1204. While he was placed in palace coup, war was waged on Constantinople, with the Fourth
Crusade ending with the subjugation and ransacking of the Byzantine capital later that year.
Following the capture of Constantinople, valuable art work, statues and other treasures were pilfered
or wrecked. The Byzantine Empire never really recovered from the ransack caused by the war. The
Fourth Crusade deeply angered Pope Innocent III, as the Crusaders had attacked their own fellow
Christians. The Crusaders were by now unpopular and had yet to achieve their initial goal of regaining
control of Jerusalem.
Before his death in 1216, Pope Innocent III commissioned the Fifth Crusade to accomplish the
mission of the Fourth, to free Jerusalem from Egyptian command. The Crusaders travelled to Acre in
1217 and joined the ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, King John was aware that attacking Jerusalem
while Egypt was at full strength was not possible, so they collectively planned to take Egypt under
Latin control, thus forcing the Muslims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Characteristics Of Life In Neil Gaiman s The Graveyard Book Everyone has different personality traits. These affect how we react to people, important decisions, and situations. You are shaped by your family, and your education. In Bod s early childhood, he was raised and taught by the different dead people in the graveyard. Bod s life starts resembling his family, friends, and education. He tends to take on attributes of the dead people he meets in the graveyard. However, fortunately for Bod he has human interactions with people outside of the graveyard. Bod s human interactions with Scarlett, Abanazer Bolger, and the bullies at school give him more characteristics of life than death in Neil Gaiman s The Graveyard Book. Bod s first human interaction was with Scarlett Perkins. She was a little older than he was, a little taller, and was dressed in bright colors, yellow and pink and orange. (40) Scarlett was Bod s first exposure to life since he was a toddler. Bod gained many human characteristics that he learned from being friends with Scarlett. She first introduced color to Bod s life by wearing bright colored clothes. Bod wore a grey winding sheet that made him feel dowdy and drab. Later in the novel, Silas brings Bod home some real clothes. Silas produced a grey sweater the color of Bod s winding sheet, a pair of jeans, underwear, and shoes pale green sneakers. (148) Silas gets Bod normal, living peoples clothes which are a characteristic of life. His shoes are also pale green, which is the first thing with color Bod owned. ... Forster and The Remains of the Day by Tovah Martin A Room with a View and The Remains of the Day are two novels which involve journeys of physical and spiritual discovery. The main characters of the stories are dissimilar in gender, age and social status but both experience situations and encounters which challenge their perspectives and personal values. The authors of these books have both included references to nature and landscape to emphasize, mirror and reinforce the reactions and emotions of their characters. They have also used nature and landscape to highlight key events. A Room with a View was written in 1908 and the opening chapters are set in Florence, Italy, a vibrant country, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually both ladies have their rooms with views and Lucy throws open her windows and admires the lights dancing over the Arno, in sharp contrast to the cypresses and Apennines, black against the rising room. This is like a metaphoric opening of Lucy s eyes and mind in preparation for the adventures which await her. In addition, this black and white vignette is a romantic, idyllic view of the Arno and is in contrast with the brightly coloured, sunlit scene of the following morning, which is full of life, movement and noise, as the Italians go about their daily routines and Lucy views the reality which is about to alter her world for ever. By comparison, The Remains of the Day is set in the rolling countryside of England between the two Wars. Stevens is the old butler at Darlington Hall and he has lived his life in service, metaphorically confined within large, country houses. He has had a sheltered, privileged life, gaining his knowledge of England from employers, guests, staff and books, especially The Wonder of England by Mrs Jane Symons. His present employer, Mr Farraday, an American, observes that you re always locked up in these big houses and encourages Stevens to get out and see this beautiful country of yours . Stevens begins his journey along routes which surprised him due to their familiarity . • 5. Compare And Contrast Byrd And Richard Fethorne William Byrd and Richard Frethorne were two men living in the North American colonies during the 1600 and1700 s. William Byrd was a wealthy and respected plantation owner in Virginia, while during the same time period Richard Frethorne was living as a very poor indentured servant in Virginia. Even though the two lifestyles these men lived were complete opposites and have many differences, they share many common issues. William Byrd and Richard Frethorne lived two very different lives. Byrd was a very wealthy plantation owner that often times showed off his money. In his free time, Byrd played games such as cricket and billiards which were games he played with other men. When these games were played, wagers were often put into play alongside these games. Frethorne was a very poor indentured servant that often was in need of many necessities. • 6. Structuralism and Reality in Wrestling Essay When discussing structuralism, I find that it takes a realistic viewpoint of how the world is represented, as we essentially are awash in concepts and signs via the structures of communication and language. In this week s readings I found more depth to the ideas behind structuralism that my previous exposures, especially when looking to Roland Barthes The World of Wrestling from his collection Mythologies. The World of Wrestling provided ample insight into how the structuralist idea of difference plays into deriving meaning (or meanings) from literature in innumerable ways, especially in how the reception of specific mythemes and signifiers evoke structurally conditioned responses from the public. One of the most important concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Livre, or book, cannot represent the actual physical existence of the book, rather it acts as a pointer toward the idea of the real object or concept out in the world. So thus, each utterance in a language points to a concrete concept, and how that concept is understood through language reflects on how a speaker (or writer, artist, comedian, dancer, so on; all are forms of expression and/or language) views and interprets the world based on their given structural understanding of the world. Each reader assumes, due to prior exposure to the structure of their given communication (be it French, English, American Sign Language), that when the signifier appears, the built in, tag along concept will follow. Extending this to literature each text is a speech act in its own right. Looking at an individual text, as the New Critics would, would equate evaluating his pitch and equating it to meaning. In this case an individual text is an utterance within the system, an example of parole (Bressler 99). However, looking at the text for how it expresses meaning, how it works on its audiences preconceptions (or lack thereof) exposes the underlying structures at play, not only in the world of literature, but in how the world ... • 7. Ketamine Essay Introduction Chronic intake, the delayed onset of action, drug resistance and numerous side effects force the researchers to look for the new, safe antidepressant strategies (1, 2) with rapid onset and longer time of action. Results obtained in the recent years give some hope that ketamine which is a global NMDAR antagonist could be the fast and long acting novel antidepressant. Antidepressant like activity of ketamine was shown in many preclinical studies (1 7). The single non anesthetic dose of ketamine reversed symptoms of major depression (MDD) in clinical conditions (8). These antidepressant effects of ketamine also occurred in patients who suffered from resistant depression or suicidal ideations (9 12). Despite a successful ... At the molecular level of explanation these processes are dependent on the interplay between glutamate receptors, Ca2+ channels, the increase of intracellular Ca2+ levels, Ca2+ dependent proteins like Akt, ERK, mTOR and neurotrophins such as brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) (24, 25). Because Ca2+ is the central point for all mentioned processes, we focused our interests on hyperforin which is Ca2+ modulator. Hyperforin is the natural and biologically active compound extracted from Hypericum Perforatum (St John Wort) (26). The St John Wort extract and hyperforin attenuated symptoms of mild to moderate depression in a few clinical trials. Both extract and hyperforin displayed antidepressant like activity in preclinical studies (27, 28). From molecular perspective, hyperforin has multidirectional mechanisms of action. It acts on ligand gated (GABA, NMDA and AMPA receptors) (29, 30) and voltage gated channels (Ca2+, K+, and Na+) (29, 31). In contrast to blockade of ion transport through the plasma membrane, hyperforin can increased an inward Ca2+ current. These processes are dose dependent and probably involved a few different cellular events. In the details, hyperforin in in vitro studies increased the Ca2+ intracellular level by activation of the non selective canonical transient receptor potential 6 channels (TRPC6) or by the releasing Ca2+ from mitochondria (32 34). As has been previously shown hyperforin activates intracellular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. A Tale Of Two Cities And The French Revolution A Tale of Two Cities, was a story about sacrifice and revenge before and during revolutionary France. Charles Dickens thought that if things did not change, then a violent revolution in England, similar to the French Revolution, was possible or in the future. In A Tale of Two Cities , Charles Dickens symbolizes the discord that the English and the French faced as he tears apart the two systems of their society. Charles Dickens, a brilliant author back in the 1850 s, wrote A Tale of Two Cities in order to describe the similarities between the forces that led to the revolution and the oppression and unrest occurring in England. The French revolution impacts history because the time period in which it takes place is before and during the French revolution. The French revolution signifies the essence of a rapid change, nevertheless, this change tore France right at the heart, where all the government was functioning . France was torn apart because of the rebellions of the Bourgeoisie, against the rich aristocrats, consequently the monarch Louis 14th. Charles Dickens went further. He conveys the idea of the French revolution through the use of social reform along with its inevitable impact on the individuals affected by the waves of change. Throughout history, the road to revolution is described as an obsession to the minority group such as the American revolution in the late 18th century. It is dangerous when a group goes down this road because the obstacle up ahead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Dbq Missouri Compromise At first, the Compromise seemed to settle the issue; however, the alarming issue arose again when Mexico ceded new territory to the Union. Differences between the views of the North and South led to a deeper divide that eventually led to the Civil War. The Missouri controversy, an extremely heated crisis between the North and South over slavery in the Louisiana territory, reached to new heights almost as great as the time of secession in 1860. This huge debate showed just how slavery divided the nation (Forbes). Many people knew the consequences of banning slavery, so they kept the Missouri Compromise in place. Tensions about what congress would do about slavery in the new territories increased rapidly. Lincoln, during his presidency, explains the difference between anti and pro slavery people. He explains that the selfish nature of man allows him to go towards slavery, but man s nature to be just and right allows him to oppose slavery (Lincoln). Wilmot tried to pass a law called the Wilmot proviso, a law forbidding slavery in the new territories ceded by Mexico. A wild debate over this law ensued between the North and South (Remini). One congressman said that the House sounded like a bomb went off because of all of the excitement in the room at the same time (Remini). Aggravated politicians got him out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. Then he created the Compromise of 1850, which allowed the state to choose whether they will enter as a slave or free state, an idea known as popular sovereignty (Remini). California entered as a free state, but the other territories from the Mexican cession were allowed to choose. This new Compromise worked for the Mexican cession territory, but the Louisiana territory still remained under the control of the Missouri Compromise. After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, violence between the North and the South ensued. In 1854, Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise (McGill). This Act established popular sovereignty for all of the territories that want to achieve statehood. Nebraska would enter as a free state. Kansas still wavered back and forth, on whether it should enter as a slave or free state. Settlers from both the North and South came to live in Kansas. Northern anti slavery settlers ... China threatened to send soldiers to assist North Korea if the United Nations didn t back off from the Yalu River. In hopes of ending the war before Christmas, General MacArthur ignored China s warnings and pressed forward trying to oppress North Korean forces to force them into surrendering. On November 25, the Chinese launched a major offensive which resulted in immense casualties for the UN forces. • 16. A Brief Look at Operational Amplifiers Operational amplifiers (Op Amp) have been in use for quite a long a long time now in the field of electronics and electrical engineering. A basic Op Amp has got three connections consisting of 1 output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the two input terminals are called inverting and non inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011). Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven that when the voltage at both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the other side. The image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For an ideal Op Amp the input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source output so this means it can be used as a buffer and an ideal source of voltage and current (Storr, 2014).Carter and Mancini (2009) noted in their book that feedback is always necessary in this amplifier so as to reduce the gain because they have an infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but this gain is dependent on the amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output will be 1V. Application of the Op Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be covered namely the integrator and differential circuit. INTEGRATOR CIRCUITS FROM OP AMP A basic mathematical definition of integration is the main tool used to define this type of amp circuit. In other terms the input signal is integrated so that the outcome is the output signal. This circuit is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Persuasive Essay On To Kill A Mockingbird Have you ever done something because everyone else was doing that thing? Have you ever bought something because a friend or because everyone else has that thing? In To Kill a Mockingbird: The Screenplay written by Horton Foote, Atticus Finch defends Tom Robinson an alleged rapist who was an African American during the Great Depression. Everyone told Atticus what he was doing was wrong, defending a black man during The Great Depression. Tom Robinson was an innocent man in the Great Depression who s only case against him was that he was black and was seen near the scene at the time when Mrs. Mayella was beaten. He was being unfairly tried and represented in the court just because he was an African American during an extremely racist time in the South. Atticus saw it different than everyone else, he was the only one willing to believe Tom Robinson when everyone else was saying he was wrong because he was a black man. Sometimes doing the right thing happens when everyone else is telling you are wrong. Atticus Finch Believed in Tom Robinson when no one else did. Do what is right when everyone is telling you are wrong. When Atticus is defending people, he will do whatever it takes to help that person out even if they can t afford his services. When Mr.Cunningham was needing Atticus s services and couldn t afford them, Atticus came up with a way that would help him. Mr.Cunningham brought hickory nuts to Atticus in order to pay off a legal debt. No one would help Mr.Cunningham, but Atticus saw that he was a good man and was worth fighting for him even though he could not pay Atticus. He was the only one willing to help the poor in a time when almost no one had money. He is paying me for some legal work I did for him... That s the only way he can ... he has no money (Foote page 7).Atticus understood that it was tough times for most people and that the farmers had no money so he came up with a way for Mr. Cunningham to pay for his legal entailments when no else would help Mr.Cunningham. He knew in his heart that helping Mr.Cunningham with his legal entailments was the right thing to do when no one else would help him. • 18. Positive Role In Social Work Social work is a practice based profession and academic discipline focusing on the principles of social justice, human rights and equality and diversity (International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), 2014). Furthermore, social work is a complex discipline which is underpinned by theories grounded in social science, humanities and indigenous knowledge (IFSW, 2014). Social work has been embedded into society as a fundamental aspect of planning person centred care for vulnerable groups (Dowling et al, 2006). There are many schools of thought which attempt to define what constitutes a vulnerable group within society. Richardson et al (2015) states that vulnerability arises within those individuals who need support to address the challenges that affect their quality of life. Poverty, extremes of age, disability, mental or physical health status and ethnicity all have the potential to contribute to vulnerability and social exclusion of the group or individual (Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 2017). In particular, the elderly and youths leaving care are recognised as having multiple needs and face adversity integrating wholly into society. It is the role of the social worker to assess, plan, intervene, implement and evaluate the care for these groups and individuals (Horner, 2009)). Social workers play a vital role within society in supporting such people regardless of their background. They are not only there to protect people from abuse but to also help enable individuals to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Constitution For New Zealand Essay What should be included or excluded in a written constitution for New Zealand? Moore (2016) emphasises the statement time for a 40 page New Zealand constitution declared by constitutional law expert and former prime minister, Sir Geoffrey Palmer, in his article on Stuff.co.nz. Palmer stresses that the present constitution is dangerously incomplete, obscure, fragmentary and far too flexible (Hagen, 2016). While there is a huge debate whether New Zealand should have a written constitution or not, it is evident to some that the nation can benefit from forming one. With a precise and complete written constitution, subjects and aspects crucial to New Zealand can be protected efficiently, while simultaneously relishing the importance of existing constitutional acts in governing New Zealand. New Zealand s resolution to examine the significance of replacing its unwritten constitution with a written one may lead to a better managerial of important constitutional acts by highlighting the differences between both written and unwritten constitutions. According to TheFreeDictionary.com, constitution means fundamental law, either written or unwritten, that explains the nature of a government by clarifying the basic principles which a society must comply with; by describing the organisation of the government and regulation, and limitations on the functions of government bodies; and by specifying the extent and manner of the exercise of its sovereign powers (Farlex, 2003). • 23. The And The Digestive System Of The Broiler Chickens Essay Abstract Due to the rapid growth of broiler chickens, skeletal disorders have become a serious problem for the poultry industry. This, in turn, leads to an unwanted expense for poultry farmers and so they seek out a way to improve the bone strength and welfare of the birds. Silicon (Si) is an important element to the body as it can improve bones and the immune system. This means it can be used in diets as a cheaper alternative to calcium and phosphorous. However, there is little understanding of the mechanisms of Si in the digestive system of the broiler chickens. At NTU, a bioavailable silicon supplement has been produced to alleviate some of the skeletal disorders and to further the knowledge of the interactions of Si. This project involves analysing bone data and evaluating the effects of the novel feed supplement. Introduction Skeletal disorders in broiler chickens has become a major problem for the poultry industry over the past 50 years (Toby G. Knowles, 2008). These weaknesses are due to selective breeding of the birds which has shown to be less economical than expected for the industry and also displays an absence for bird welfare (Bennett, Christiansen, Clifton Hadley). The pace at which the birds grow has dramatically increased over the years to accommodate the demand for the tender meat they now produce (Manohar, Omprakash, Kanagaraju, 2015). This in turn has led to the skeletal disorders as the weight they gain can no longer be supported by the legs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Arrangement Of The Staff CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background The arrangement of the staff has different affectedly in recent decades all over the world. In the year 2000, 61% of all married women over age 16 in the US were in the workforce, compared to just 41% in 1970 (US Census Bureau, 2001); More employees are now engaged in a dual earner lifestyle where both partners work and share responsibility for family care giving (Greenhaus et al., 2000). In fact, recent research indicates that 85% of employees report having some day to day family responsibilities (Bond et al., 1998). These changing demographic trends, coupled with greater family involvement by men (Pleck, 1985) and heightened interest of employers in employee s quality of life (Zedeck Mosier, 1990) prompted a proliferation of research on the relationship between work and family roles. Interest and concern in the interface between work and non work life, especially family life. Numerous scholars (e.g. O Driscoll, 1996; Edwards Rothbard, 2000; Frone, 2003; Grzywacz Marks, 2000) have observed that changing social demographics, altering family role expectations, shifting family structure, aging workforce, as well as recent technological developments, increasing globalization, and international business competitiveness have contributed to a blurring of boundaries between the domains of employment and family and to greater permeability between these domains. Through changes in setting and the amount of light within each scene, Hawthorne illustrates the emotions of the characters, highlighting the fact that light is truth and dark is the absence of truth. • 34. The British And The American Colonies History 2.1 What Lead to the Fractured Relationship Between the British and the American Colonies Prior to the Boston Massacre? Following Britain s success in the Seven Years War and the signing of a Peace with France in 1763 Britain gained control of all territory east of the Mississippi in North America. From all of this there was a cost; the war left Britain with large military expenses debts and additional expenses of an enlarged empire. At an attempt to solve this problem, the politicians in Britain decided to exploit the colonial tax revenues in order to pay off the debts and increased expenses. Britain began to tighten control in the colonies in 1763 by stooping migration of settlers westward, this had resulted in expensive and bloody Indian wars, something that the British currently did not need. It also allowed the British to keep control of a smaller land mass and thus make it easier to keep an eye on all colonists. Colonial trade was tightened and colonial taxation was increased. Central power was increased and the power of colonial assemblies decreased. The British first brought in the Sugar Act. The Act taxed the finer things and more luxurious items such as wine, silk, and coffee. It was the first attempt from the British to exploit colonial tax revenue to aid the British need. Essay on Graffiti GRAFFITI The Public Art Movement The widespread dissemination of colorful graffiti paintings on the walls of our major cities has made it impossible to ignore this form of public art. As contact with this form of expression increases, one starts to recognize styles, recurrent themes, patterns and stylistic influences. To the masses graffiti seems to represent vandalism, an ugly and threatening attempt to undermined social value and prestige. For graffiti writers, graffiti is a secret expression, an urban form of mystic calligraphy, a voice against the man. Graffiti as an act of transgression against social law and order can be traced back to the first century AD. On once public and privately owned Pompeiian walls and ... Although the world of the Shaman was much different from the colossal buildings of social and political order, both the shaman and the graffiti artist appear as the insurgent shadows of creativity in a world of social hierarchy and economic political stratification. Graffiti artists see themselves as revolutionaries outside the established art market of the gallery system and the utilitarian values of capitalist social order. They like the shaman understand their art as ideological statements and symbolic transformative instruments for initiating social change. Many artists argue that graffiti is only used to leave a trace of one s existence. However, these criticisms fail to acknowledge that much of graffiti has taken it s roots in social protest, making the artist s community his audience. The targets of graffiti, the public and private buildings are symbols of the social body and capitalist identity. Graffiti writers knowingly and willingly tag the most sacred things of the hierarchy; the more sacred the symbol and taboo, the more attractive and empowering the transgressive ritual act. • 37. What I Learned From My Writing Since the beginning of English 1100, I have created trends in my writing. My approach to writing, point of view, and writing styles are similar in all of my papers. I have taken the skills I learned from my previous experiences of writing and improved them in this class. My liberal ideas that have been embedded in my writing since high school are shown and reflected in multiple projects that I ve completed. Many of my grammatical errors began to stick out and I have since learned how to correct them. English 1100 has helped me to correct grammatical errors that I had never noticed before and has ultimately allowed me to discover why I write a particular way. I have improved my writing habits through this class and have been able to enhance my skills to the best of my ability. A common trend among my papers has been my sentence structure. For the most part, my sentences would be short and very straight forward. A common mistake that I see among many of my peers is writing consciously, a problem I do not have. I like that I can get right to the point which allowed me to be more direct in stating my facts and less worried about filling my paper with fluff. By the end of the semester, I learned to make my sentences more balanced which would allow me to have more flow throughout my paper. As the semester went on I started to pay closer attention to the length and the content of each sentence and how each correlated with each other. I took a skill I had coming into the class and ... Reflection This selection of music contains 4 symphonies which each symphony has 4 movement in itself and is performed by an orchestra. In each symphony I have come to realize that each symphony brilliantly exhibits intriguing melodies that are mainly homophonic, but in some parts polyphonic. The feeling I get as I listen to each section of the orchestra is that they have something to say to each other and that the texture is linguistic and emotional as the string section sets the heart of the melody and the percussion and woodwinds imitate or answer with their own melody. The intensity in each symphony is expressed by the wide range of pitch as the violins played and the horns and the flutes resonate their sound as a response to the string section create a very joyful and pleasant listening experience. At times, the music makes me think I am in a Forrest or by a River or on a journey experiencing the surprises of life or the challenges of it. I can feel each musical instruments timbre and it sets my mood in each section of the symphony, sad or happy the rhythmic tones from the orchestra also sounds like a lullaby at some points of the ... By that time, Napoleon had ruled France and surrounding countries for twenty years. Originally an officer in the French Army, he had risen to become Emperor among the political chaos following the French Revolution in which the old ruling French kings and nobility had been destroyed. Napoleon built a 500,000 strong Army, which used modern tactics and improvisation in battle to sweep across Europe and acquire an Empire for France. But in 1812, the seemingly invincible ... In these latter times, as in the days of our prosperity, you have invariably been models of courage and fidelity. With men such as you our cause could not be lost; but the war would have been interminable; it would have been civil war, and that would have entailed deeper misfortunes on France. I have sacrificed all of my interests to those of the country. I go, but you, my friends, will continue to serve France. Her happiness was my only thought. It will still be the object of my wishes. Do not regret my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to serve your glory. I intend to write the history of the great achievements we have performed together. Adieu, my friends. The poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar represents the speaker s vast knowledge of the feeling of being enclosed in a place where they are tremendously uncomfortable. The speaker explains the actions of a bird trapped in a small cage and explains the motives behind the actions. The speaker reveals that the song the caged bird sings is not a melody exuberating joy, but a cry begging for freedom. The bird then returns to his former place in the cage, the speaker emphasizing the pain in the bird s old, old scars , imparting that the bird has attempted to escape in this manner multiple times in the past. From the line in which the speaker says And they pulse again with a keener sting, which refers to the bird s scars, the reader can assume that the keener sting is a fire in the bird s wings fueled by determination to achieve freedom, and that the bird will continue attempting to escape relentlessly. The speaker states that he knows why he beats his wing , meaning that he knows the forces that can drive a creature to harm themselves in the process of trying to achieve something, and he has come in contact with those forces in his life. Lastly, the speaker talks of the motive behind the caged bird s song. When people hear birds singing in nature, or in cages, they often assume that the bird is singing a jocose tune. People typically fail to analyze the potential emotions of the bird and its feelings toward its environment. Rather than singing a tune of joy, the caged bird sings a tragic melody of sorrow, a desperate cry for freedom. When the speaker says a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings , he is alluding to God and Heaven, to which the bird directs his cries in the hope that they will be heard. The attitude that the speaker has towards the woeful bird is, as the title says, sympathetic. The speaker is able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
