What Is The Purpose Of The Alchemist
INTRODDUCTION AND PURPOSE OF CHOSING THIS BOOK: The Alchemist is the perfect
work of art on life reasoning by Paulo Coelho. The book is a great tale woven to reveal how to
understand your fate and what you ll look on its way. The analogies and the words are used as a
piece of an unnoticeable flawless style. In all probability The Alchemist is a cunning climax by
Paulo Coelho. This is the story of Santiago, a shepherd kid who yearns for daring to the most
distant corners of the planet and discovering treasures, and is adequately intense to walk around his
needs. Remembering the true objective, he goes from his home in Spain, through the business
segments of Tangiers, and into the goliath Egyptian leave. He gets deceived, experiences love, loses
and benefits, takes in another vernacular, meets unmistakable people, ends up in enchanting and not
by any stretch of the imagination magnificent conditions. He in like manner finds the advantage of
meeting a master, a leave woman and a scientific expert, each adding to his life new turns and
acknowledgments. The book underscores the estimations of most significant feeling of being,
certainty, desire and love through meaningful depiction of an intriguing story of a standard child

Justin Brieber Research Paper
You can do anything if you put your mind to it just look at me. The harder you work, the more
successful you can be. This is just the beginning. They might ask who spoke those words, the
answer would be, the one and only Justin Bieber. The boy that came from nothing, but ended up
having everything. Justin Bieber started out as a young Canadian boy singing in local singing
competitions and then went on to become one of the most famous singers of his generation. It only
took a few postings on YouTube of Justin singing to start bringing in attention. About a month or

Hannibal Lecter Villain
Hannibal Lecter was the most feared psychopath created by Thomas Harris. Prior to the release
of The Silence of The Lamb America thought he was another fictional character. After viewing
the movie they began to realize Hannibal Lecter was based off Doctor Alfredo Balli Travino.
Travino was convicted and sentenced to death for the manslaughter of his gay lover Rangel. The
crime of passion included Travino slicing his neck and draining his blood and methodically
chopping Rangel s body into pieces and shoving him into a box. Later he drove to a relative s
farm where he and a farm hand buried the box. Upon the discovery of the oddly marked grave,
by another worker, the police were informed. They went undercover to Travino s practice and
arrested him. Immoral actions are not only in the real world, they are also depicted into novels.

Iago created this plan out of jealousy and revenge. Cassio, Othello s right hand man, was

first event being the rumors of Othello having an affair with Emilia, Iago s wife. Iago s plan is to
get Othello to believe that Desdemona is unfaithful to him. Iago s reasoning, jealousy and revenge,
is what characterizes him as evil. He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he
who helps perpetrate it (Martin Luther King Jr). He who thinks evil thoughts is as responsible as
one who acts upon them. Iago himself has passive contemplations that transform into concrete

Replacement Reactions: A Colorful look at Experimentation Background Information There are
many different ways to categorize reactions, though there is one specific one that s used in this
lab, double displacement reactions. A double displacement, or double replacement or double

reactants are reversed in the products. A generic formula for this is AB+CD в†’AD+CB.

The Disease Of Lyme Disease
Lyme disease is a multisystem, inflammatory illness. It is caused by the bacteria Borrelia
burgdorferi. It is a vector borne infection (which means it is spread directly from one host to
another) transmitted specifically through the bite of an infected tick (Mayo Clinic: Lyme Disease
Definition, Aug. 27, 2015). There are certain risk factors which can increase one s chance of
contracting Lyme disease. For example: where a person lives can heighten one s likelihood of
getting this illness. Wherever deer or white footed mice are high in population, ticks are likely to be
as well, since these animals are their main food source. Ticks also thrive in heavily wooded and
grassy areas, so, if a person lives or works in such a place, they... Show more content on

8, 2006). Therefore, one s best protection against infection of this bacteria relies entirely on
preventative measures. First of all, avoid wooded, grassy areas, which generally have a high tick
population. Furthermore, if one must venture into such an area, cover up in light colored
clothing to improve one s ability to spot a tick and obstruct the tick s path to the skin. Tucking
pant legs into the top of one s socks is an effective measure, as is wearing hats and gloves, and
sticking to trails as much as possible. Secondly, invest in tick repellent; there are many chemical
products, such as DEET, or natural protections, like vinegar mixed with essential oil and water,
available. Tick proof your property by clearing away brush and tall grass. Also, be mindful that
when you spend time outdoors check yourself, your children, and pets frequently for ticks. Ticks
like to burrow in dark, warm areas that are difficult to spot: the underarm, groin, hair line and the
back of the knee. Depending on what stage a tick is in its life cycle, it will feed on its host for 3
10 days. Although, it has been reported that the sooner a tick is removed,

The Revolution in the English Textile Industry
The hidden story is like a seed of single cotton, hidden inside its soft fluffiness. The truth is clinged
into the historical facts, through books, media, or other sources, and you have to work it this way
and that. It s almost as if the various facts want to hold on to it and keep it hidden. And the history
of cottonis too long and complicate, in a certain way, is the story about of cotton and people in
America that found the Industrial Revolutionin America. Expressing the outstanding development,
Karl Marx wrote in 1846 that without cotton you have no modern industry. For Marx, the
relationship between cotton and slavery was similarly unambiguous: Without slavery, you have no
cotton. (1)
Cotton came to America from England industrial development. Cotton, a shrubby plant, thrives in
warm climates just suitable for South regions and couldn t be grown in the North, because the
climate was too cold. (2) Early in the seventeenth century, agriculture in the American South was
dominated by staples or money crops products (tobacco, then rice, indigo, and sugar) that fetched a
high price in the marketplaces of Europe; finally came cotton, the king of them all. (3) By 1860,
cotton dominated the American economy. The South exported 66 percent of the world s supply,
and cotton made up more than half of the supply with almost 90 percent of cotton grown in the
South. Much of Southern society had become dependent upon a cotton culture and the institution of
slavery. (4)

Critically Analyzing Sources for Research
During college, students should be able to research and analyze their sources. It is an important
life skill. By using the ability to research, they can find articles with credible, reliable, and relevant
information to get the best and dependable research. People who use these techniques will find each
of these components essential to the authenticity of an article. These skills would be able to help
students and researchers discover trustworthy and reliable sources. Each of the different
components in a quality researchmakes it solid and dependable. Credibility is how believable or
truthful the research, and whether the researchers have the credentials to do research in that area.
Reliability is the reputation of the article s source, and if the authors considered any biases.
Relevancy is how current the article is or how important it is now. Students conducting research in
college need to be able to critically analyze sources for credibility, relevancy, and reliability in
order to determine their usefulness in a research paper.
The first step in finding a credible article is looking for credentials and qualifications of the authors.
Each of the three authors of this article has the credentials and qualifications to write about this
subject. The three researchers of this article are Zhengchuan Xu, Qing Hu, and Chenghong Zhang.
Zhengchuan Xu has a Ph. D in computer software and theory. He is also an associate professor in

malevolent intentions and relentlessly grasping for you with ice cold fingers. This was the spine
chilling notice of which forcefully encouraged James Doolittle to take part in the fiery horse

Every museum has an object that has a story to tell to the visitors. Collecting institutions will often
spend more time, energy, and money caring for the objects that visitors do not see than the
institutions spend on the public exhibits. (Moses, 1) These objects, whether displayed in exhibits
or in storage hidden from the public view, are instilled with meaning, as the objects tell us who we
are as individuals and as a society and connect us with our past. (Moses, 2) However, while
collecting institutions, whether big or small, can present and collect objects that resemble and

Nancy Moses main argument is that each collecting institution must continually struggle to remain
relevant to the local community. In the first chapter, Nancy Moses discusses the Audubon birds at
the Academy of Natural Science in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She describes the Academy s
struggles, which centers around its appearance to the public as a natural science museum, when it is
actually a research center with a museum attached to the center. The museum includes dated
exhibits that show considerable neglect. (Moses, 21) The Academy was able to safely store the
Audubon birds and other objects, but the Academy was unable to successfully maintain and
preserve the objects financially. This led to the Academy s second problem. The Academy had
chronic and escalating problems with money because none of the three divisions within the
Academy generated enough money to support their work. (Moses, 22) To combat the financial
problem, the Academy s board voted to sell more than 15,000 of their minerals and gems that had
never been previously displayed, and use the proceeds to support their library. (Moses, 22) The
Academy wanted to continue to remain a research center and believed that by selling their objects,

In Emily Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights, we are taken back to the nineteenth century by a man
named Lockwood. He is being told the story of his landlord, Heathcliff, and how he became the
man that he is and what he has been through. We learn that Heathcliff was adopted by Mr.
Earnshaw on a trip to Liverpool and was brought back to Wuthering Heightsto his new family, a
mother, a brother, and a sister. Upon arrival he was not greeted with any respect and or love. The
Earnshaw s had more love for the dirt on the bottoms of their shoes than they had for Heathcliff.

The first place in Wuthering Heights that we see Heathcliff has fallen victim to the nurture
category in nature vs. nurture is when Heathcliff is brought home to Wuthering Heights and is
introduced to the family in Chapter Four. When Nelly is describing Heathcliff on his arrival to
Wuthering heights, she describes him as a dirty, ragged, black haired child and when Nelly talks
about Mrs. Earnshaw s reaction she says that she was ready to fling it out of doors (37). They
referred to this child as an it on arrival. Throughout the page, Nelly still refers to Heathcliff as an

could remember and had no knowledge of any family whatsoever. Mrs. Earnshaw even goes to
take it a step further and refer to Heathcliff as a gypsy brat and asks why Mr. Earnshaw would
dare to bring home such a child when they had their own bairns to feed and fend for (37). Growing
up in this environment on a child, there would be no way that the child would escape without also
being as un nurturing of an individual as his family members.

Language And Sexism In Language
Language plays an important role in society. In large extent it is a mirror of it while at the same
time it functions as means of constructing and maintaining that society. As a phenomenon of
society, language reflects all the perspectives of human society. Sexism in language has been a
controversial topic in sociolinguists since its inception. In this chapter, a historical overview will
be made and a definition of sexist language will be provided.
Sexism in language exists when language devalues members of a certain gender. Sexist language
has many definitions but for the sake of this essay the following definition will be used: [a
statement] is sexist if its use constitutes, promotes or exploits an unfair or irrelevant or impertinent
distinction between the sexes (Vetterling Braggin 1981:3).
Over the years there have been many concerns about gender and language which can be traced to
linguistics and to feminist theory. As a research field it developed side by side with the second
wave of feminism during the 1960s and 1970s, despite the fact that gender and language have
been a debatable issue for a long time. Around that time many articles and books were written
which addressed two questions; the essence and importance of gender bias in language and of
gender differences in language use. As Lakoff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

feeds into it. According to many feminists, language establishes and nourishes negative beliefs
towards women and their secondary social status besides the fact that it also reflects men s

Jesus Of Nazareth Blasphemy
Yesterday, in the city of Judea, a man, going by the name of Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, for
blasphemy. In his crimes, he claimed to be the son of God, and was apparently spreading false
tales and stories. He had amassed a large following of people, including the 12 he held most dear,
the disciples. In the week before his death, he had been observed to enter Jerusalem through the
East gate, as onlookers laid down palm leaves, to mark the coming of the Messiah . On the
second day, he was observed to have turned over tables in the temple, feeling evidently angry at
the fact there were gamblers inside the temple, he also very rudely refused to sacrifice an animal to

His mother could be heard wailing loudly at the scene. Jesus was very quickly buried, without a
proper funeral, this was partly due to the fact the next day was the Holy Sabbath, and no work

solid proof, was he able to amass such a following? Furthermore, why were the people of Judea
so ready to abandon their loyalty to King Herod, and fully support this Jesus character? Have the
Jews of Judea lost hope? Jesus told many stories, about lambs, and how he felt everyone was
special. Curiously, he also spoke to and offered his help to lepers and prostitutes. Perhaps this
man was very empathetic towards these people s struggles, and felt that they were not too
dissimilar to his own. This man was obviously one of great charisma, and his talents helped to
spread happiness throughout the city. Was it truly a good idea to crucify him. Eyewitnesses also

Analysis Of The Decade From Hell
The Decade From Hell: Terrorism, War, and Recession in the 2000s At the end of 2009, Time
Magazine controversially named 2000 2009 The Decade from Hell, citing numerous factors which
had contributed to the breakdown of the idyllic view that Americans and many others had
previously held of the United States (TIME, 2009). Factors cited included the contested results of
the 2000 election, the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks on the twin towers, the invasions of Afghanistan
and Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, the financial crisis, Detroit s collapse, and revelations about human
rightsviolations at the military base in Guantanamo Bay. It wasn t all negative, however.
Technology continued to advance rapidly, with smartphones gaining popularity and social media
becoming prevalent in the mid 2000s (Dreier, 2015). In 2008, the U.S. made a huge step forward
for civil rights, with Barack Obamabecoming the first African American president (and the first
president with Muslim roots). Closing out the decade, The Miracle on The Hudson brought a lot
of people new hope when a pilot managed to save every passenger on US Airways Flight 1549,
which seemed doomed following a double engine failure. The political atmosphere in the early
2000 s was significantly different than that of the Obama years, and thus it is impossible to choose
a song that accurately represents the entire decade. The Bush era was marked by a notable anti war
sentiment, which is voiced in Eminem s 2004 single Mosh (Plumer,

Julius Caesar And Brutus Tragic Hero Analysis
A tragic hero tries to do the right thing but has flaws in their character that prevents them from
being a true hero. Scholars argue over whether Brutus or Caesar is the tragic hero in the play
Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Both men have tragic flaws which cause their
downfall. They are both ambitious. Caesar wanted all the power to himself. On the contrary, Brutus
wanted what was best for Rome and to keep a good reputation. Brutus is the tragic heroof the play
since he falls the farthest due to the fact that he is too trusting of everyone, he naively allows his
enemy to speak out about him, and he lacks self confidence. To begin with, Brutus is too trusting
of those around him. Brutus s friend Cassius recognizes that Brutus is driven by what is best for
Rome. Because of this Cassius devises a plan to plant a fake petition from the people of Rome
stating that Caesar needs to be executed. Brutus never even questions that the petition is real. After
reading the petition Brutus response is:
Am I entreated
To speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise,
If the redress will follow, thou receivest
Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus! (Shakespeare 2.1.55 58)
Brutus agrees to do whatever it takes to help Rome receive justice, even if it means to use
violence against his friend. Lastly, due to Brutus killing Caesar, war broke out in Rome. Brutus
is creating more chaos for Rome than Caesar is. He is naive and thinks he is doing what is best
for Rome, but really ends up hurting Rome. A true hero would have been sceptical about the
petition before making decisions about it. Since Brutus is too trusting he did not think twice about
the petition which ultimately, leads to his downfall. Another example of Brutus as the tragic hero
is his naivety. He foolishly allows his enemy to speak at Caesar s funeral. After Caesar s death the
funeral is planned for all of Rome to attend. Brutus allows Mark Antony, Caesar s right hand man,
to speak at the funeral. This allows Mark Antony to turn the crowd against Brutus. Mark Antony
makes Brutus look like the bad guy by saying: If Brutus so unkindly knocked, or no. For Brutus, as
you know, was Caesar s angel. Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him! This was

Examples Of Neutralism In My Brother Sam Is Dead
Neutrality in War: Tim s Decision In war, is freedom more valuable than life? For example, at
the time of the Revolutionary War, people had to choose between liberty or life. When the
colonies decided to break away from the tyrannical rule of King George the Third, sides had to be
chosen. The Patriots, who wanted independence, fought for justice and liberation while the
Loyalists wished to stand with Britain. Some chose not to stand on either side and remained
neutral. Through threats and violent attacks, people were forced to choose a side. In the novel My
Brother Sam Is Dead, it describes the different viewpoints and decisions of a character who decides
to stay neutral in the war. The ironic deaths of Ned, Life, and Sam induces Tim to be neutral in the

rationing coupons if you were a woman with 2 daughters you could only buy each a coat and

Adolf Hitlers Life
The Early Life of Adolf Hitler
Many individuals all over the world know of Adolf Hitler and his terrible deeds. They know of his
reasonability to the deaths of over 6 million innocent Jews. Many of these individuals believe that
Adolf Hitler was a hateful man, with no heart or compassion. Only knowing the history of the
Holocaust and World War II, that statement is true. But what would a man go through to end up
heartless, compassionless, and evil? Adolf Hitler had a family, a childhood, and a personal history
that not many individuals know about. I decided for my research paper that I would write about
the early life of Adolf Hitler and what changed him into the evil man that the whole world knows
him for.
Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As his grade school years were ending, Adolf had to choose between technical or classical
school. His father pushed him to follow in his footsteps and become a civil servant. Adolf did
not want to follow in his father s footsteps. He wanted to attend classical school and follow his
dreams of becoming an artist. Against Adolf s will, his father sent him to technical high school
in the city of Linz. Hitler s first year in technical school went horribly. Hitler was a country boy
in a school full of city boys. These children looked down on him, assuming that since he was
from the country he was unintelligent. He was very lonely and extremely unhappy his first
year, resulting in poor grades. Adolf had a great resentment to his father for sending him to
technical school. Hitler explained in his book Mein Kampf that he thought that once my father
saw what little progress I was making at the [technical school] he would let me devote myself to
the happiness I dreamed of. (the history place) Many arguments happened between Hitler and
his father. Hitler argued he did not want to spend his life at a desk that his dreams were to be an
artist. Yet his father did not listen and sent him back to the technical school. This caused a bitter
struggle between Adolf and his father. Adolf wanted to do everything opposite of his father. This
is where Adolf s interest in German Nationalism arose and quickly became an obsession. Alois
had worked as an Austrian Imperial Customs agent and expressed loyalty to Austria. Seeing his
father express his loyalty to Austria, Adolf began to express loyalty to the German Kaiser. Hitler
and his friends used the German greeting Heil , and liked to sing the German anthem Deutschland
Uber Alles . The constant struggle with his father would soon end. In 1903 Alois died of a lung
hemorrhage, leaving 13 year old Adolf Hitler the head of the Hitler

Marriage Between Women And Marriage Essay
The Formality marriage relationships documented in this study all included four stages: 1): Men
Dang Hu Dui 2): partnership, 3): friendship, 4): kinship (as shown on model1: formality marriage

An Examination of Capital Punishment Essay
Capital punishment also known as the death penalty is when a person who has been convicted by
the court of law can be sentenced to death. This occurs when a defendant is being tried with a
criminal offense; such as the conscious murder of a peace officer on active duty, or a federal agent.
This punishment has been a constant debate throughout our history. People claim it to be unjust or
a cruel and unusual punishment, while another part of our population claims that this consequence
is not used enough. Capital punishmentis not a problem only here but around the world as well;
there is constant arguing and debates, here and around the globe, about the moralities of this
punishment. This has been an unsurpassable struggle from the... Show more content on

In fact, Parliament had voted to abolish capital punishment in 1965, it was viewed as the
emblematic of the 1960s, part of a shift towards a more permissive society (Homans,2008,43).
Although they outlawed capital punishment they did not change the public opinion on the matter.
In fact the majority of the public happened to be opposed to the abolition. From 1861 onwards there
were only four crimes that could be charged with capital punishment it includes: murder, treason,
piracy with violence, and arson in government dockyards and arsenals (Holmans,2008,43).
Although, the only one which was being actively enforced and charged with the death penalty
was, murder. The only reason it was really enforced for murders is because judges believed that
murders lost their right to live due to the fact they took a life. Because every murderer is at times
very different the public opinion took note of it therefore many murders were pardoned by the
Home Secretary and given the royal privilege of mercy. This did not change until 1957.
Parliamentary abolitionists were supported by groups such as the Howard League for Penal
Reform and the National Council for the Abolition of the Death Penalty or NCADP. It had been
established in 1923. A woman established this organization because of the murder of her husband
by her lover. During the 1920s people began to question the deterrent effect of the death penalty in
the many cases viewing them on a case by case basis trying to

ID, Ego, And Superego In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
The Reality of ID,EGO, and Superego
In the book Lord of the Flies, by William Golding shows examples of the mind set ID, Ego, and
Super are part of one s mind set when born. ID is the primitive mind, it contains all the basic needs
and feelings of a person this demonstrates the character Jack . Ego is the growth of a person s mind,
it relates to the real world actions meaning it operates with the reality principle, it compromises the
good and the bad this represents the character Ralph. The next mind set is the Superego, this is
called the moral part of the mind the parental and societal values. it stores and enforces the rules of
what is needed to know this describes the character Piggy.
ID (Jack), Ego (Ralph), Superego(Piggy)
The Id contains a human s primitive drive and operates according to the pleasure principle, whereby
its two main goals are the seeking of pleasure and the avoidance of pain.(http://changingminds.org

introduces the charcter Jack a young kid, but starts to change as a person. He represents ID, by
his action of needing and wanting things. Being part of Ralph s group all Jack wanted to do was
hunt, and hunt nothing else just the need to hunt for pigs. Soon after that he then decides to leave
the group of boys to start his own group of hunters to be in charge and command. As the mind

Water On Mars, But Not In California
The Coachella Valley is a civilization built by water, sustained by water, and requires an awful lot
of this rapidly diminishing resource. As a hub for tourist activities such as golfing which use
copious amounts of water just to stay operational, the Valley must address Californias growing
drought. One would think that California should be the last state experiencing a water shortage
because it is bordered by the largest body of water in the world, the Pacific Ocean, however this
is not the case at all. Because the Pacific is an ocean, its water must be purified which is a long

Abstract
Android one of the simplest mobile operating system developed by google on the basis of Linux
kernel. Android SDK is used to develop android applications. It uses Java programming language.
It is designed to run on different types of devices. It is composed of OS, user interface and
application components. Android has built in tools. Android platform composed of Linux kernel,
system libraries, android run time, and application framework and so on five parts. Android relies
on Linux 2.6 version. It provides core system services security, memory management, process
management, network group, driven model. Android has a unique security model, which focuses
on putting the user in control of the device. Android devices however, don t all come from one
place, the open nature of the platform allows for proprietary extensions and changes. These
extensions can help or could interfere with security, being able to analyze a distribution of Android
is therefore an important step in protecting information on that system. The resulting security
model is much more like a multi user server than the sandbox found on the J2ME or Blackberry
platforms. Unlike in a desktop computer environment where a user s applications all run as the
same UID (UNIX user identifiers). Android applications run in separate processes under distinct
UIDs each with distinct permissions. Programs can typically neither read nor write each other s

Global Climate Change Essay
The believed outcome of Global Climate Change(GCC) by many people is not a good one.
However it will not be as bad as 40 foot swell in the sea level, huge thunder storms, or satanic

Many people do believe that the current trend of our planet s climatewill inevitably end in the

Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak Book Analysis
Melinda Sordino is raped weeks before her freshman year, but nobody knows. Coming from a
struggling family and friends that ignore her, Melinda has no one to tell. As her grades fall and
her self esteem with it, she must choose to speak up against her rapist when he tries to take
advantage of her again. In Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak, the uses of the author s life, the events
that show the time period, and the philosophy of speaking up all contribute to why she wrote the
novel. Laurie Halse Anderson faced many struggles as a young adult and shares her battles
through the endeavors of the main characters in her books. From the beginning, Anderson wasn
t the best student, spending much of her time daydreaming in the back row (Lew 11). Anderson
started school as any other student. Good grades came easy and she was liked by her peers.
Anderson also had a vivid imagination; she would imagine stories in her mind during random
times of the day (Lew 11). Anderson also attended Onondaga Community College in Syracuse,
New York for a two year associate s degree and then graduated from Georgetown with a bachelor
s in language and linguistics (Lew 18). She has always enjoyed writing, and decided to pursue her
dream of being an author because she felt the need to share her life experiences with others.... Show

emphasize why she wrote the book. Melinda s life closely resembled Laurie Halse Anderson s, and

Neurocognitive Dysfunction Case Study
The neurocognitive dysfunction can be a complication of chronic hepatitis C (3), and several
reports have described the adverse influence of the virus on cognitive function (7), which is
characterised by complex attention, executive functions, learning and memory, perceptual motor
functions and social cognition (4). Most of the studies suggest that cognitive impairments in HCV
infection and their manifestations are completely reversible. However, more recently, some
research has been inconclusive to determine the total reversibility in these cases. Few mental
impairments may persist even after transplantation, once It might be linked to persistent cumulative
deficits in working memory and learning. In addition, irreversible alterations in the brainin CHC

The Importance Of Intertextuality In Literature
Intertextuality the idea that there is only one story and ideas are just borrowed to make more
stories. The importances of this device is to show how culture and everyday life influences
authors. Music and philosophy also have a strong influence through intertextuality. Thomas C.
Foster believes that there is only one big story and every other story is related to that one. In the
movie Titanic Jack, dies from hypothermia, in Romeo and Juliet they both commit suicide. Both
stories someone died out of love for someone else. Grease and High School Musical are two
movies that involve high school with singing and dancing and becoming friends with new
people. Another set of movies that have a similar story line are The Notebook and Romeo and
Juliet. In The Notebook Allie s mother doesn t want Allie to be hanging around Noah. Allie
moves away and Noah is crushed, they then find each other again one day and live a happy life
together. They finally died together in each other s arms. In Romeo and Juliet both of the their
families were at war with each other, but Romeo and Juliet fell in love with each other. But since
their families didn t like each other they had to keep it a secret. Eventually other people find out
about the secret relationship. So they came up with a plan, but the plan didn t work well and they
both ended up killing themselves. The examples that I just talked a little about show that some, not
all stories are based on a similar story line. When in Doubt,

The Implication Of Ecological Thought For Social Welfare

In the article by Tony Fitzpatrick The implication of ecological thought for social welfare brings
forth the argument of Green social policy that examines how social policies could lead to
sustainability. One policy that Fitzpatrick introduces is Basic Income plan as a possible strategy

Yes, a community is able to live on renewable energysources such as wind power and solar power.
A majority of local systems should install power grids purely based upon renewable energy,
depending on the source will depend on the area and the source that can generate the most on
demand. For example, small communities further in land will be able to depend on the use of
geothermal energy due to being in an isolated area where the mine can be installed and maintained
without disturbing day to day activities whereas in a city this would be impossible. The primary
question regarding the use of renewable/alternative energy sources is if they re able to generate
enough energy to cover the entire country? While the answer is currently unknown, we know

Comparison Of Burma And Chile
My reasoning behind using Burma and Chile, is that these two cases are both similar in the fact that
the factions were important in demanding change, but both obtained different outcomes. The
reason why I believe that Burma failed in its attempt to become a democratic state, was due to
having an enormous amount of participants that were willing to die for democracy, but overall their
movements lacked in quality. According to Chenoweth and Stephan, internal disunity and the
presence of multiple armed factions weakened the opposition resistance (Chenoweth Stephan

Comparing Men Of Stone And Billy Elliot

stories both take place over a long period of time. Conflicts and issues that Ben and Billy have

dance, however they weren t criticized by the same people. Older women both make

communication between the entire family. Billy s family is dysfunctional because of the mining
strike which causes the father and older brother to lose their jobs. This then creates a tension with
most of the family members. Although both families display poor communication, they display it

It Is Just A College Prep Class

First off, I d like to ask, What is AVID? For outsiders, they believe it is just a college prep class.
In some ways it is, but there is so much more to this class. Where teachers help us gain unique
study skills that bring us the ability to do better in school. They also provide a friendly
environment that helps us to gain better knowledge. They also help us build a career and set goals
for our future.
They say a AVID has proven achievement and brings a lifelong Advantage. But it s not just the
class it s you. You can have your teachers and parents tell you school is important, but you have to

Vaccination And Its Effects On Children
Vaccination is a preparation of antigenic material that can be used to stimulate the development of
antibodies and thus confer active immunity against a specific or number of diseases. It is a medical
treatment administered to an otherwise healthy individual. Virtually all other invasive medical
interventions occur only once someone has called ill. Vaccination, like most medical treatments, can
involve some risk. And therefore it should be undertaken only after careful consideration of its
risks versus its benefits. The first vaccinewas developed in 1796 by Edward Jenner, to prevent the
effect of a deadly diseases called smallpox. The demonstration proved to the science community
that it worked and the support for vaccination grew and became mandatory. In this generation we
are seeing more vaccines given to more children at a younger age than ever before in history. As
the number of vaccines given to children increased, there has been a rise and moderate to severe
Asthma, seizures, diabetes, and food allergies diagnosed with autism. There are a lot of viral
material in vaccination such as DNA, Foreign DNA, Animal DNA most commonly green
monkeys and chicken and all the kind of DNA we are not eating but injecting into our bodies.
Do we really know what we are creating? And do we really believe help can only come through

Themes Of Urban Legends
Nowadays, the development of technology affects the way we search for the information. For
instance, stories that have been told only within families or small groups of people can now be
exposed to the internet, where these stories are shared amongst hundreds of people. Urban legend,
by definition, is a humorous or horrific story that people usually believe, even when there is no
proof of where it started from, or of the trustworthiness of that story. Urban legends have appealed to
many ranges of audiences since this genre tends to attract many individuals. For instance, college
students have taken an interest towards these legends, whether they like the strange stories or the
actual messages behind it. Urban legends have taught college students the themes, which are based
on the reflection of their conflicts or problems that they have dealt with. The two common themes
of urban legends that represent the problem that college students are dealing with are the conflicts

Sports Athletes Should Not Be Better Than Their Opponent
Introduction In the world of sports, competitive athletes are willing to do whatever is necessary to
be better than their opponent. The nature of the competitive drive in some athletes is precisely
what separates the average from the elite. Compared to their novice counterparts, elite athletes
usually have a more extensive knowledge base of sport specific information and are more adept at
using said knowledge efficiently to identify, remember and manipulate relevant information in their
specialist sport (Swann, Moran, Piggott, 2015). In order to achieve max performance, an elite
athlete must be skilled in their craft, meaning they are able to produce the skills needed reliably, on
demand, and with very little luck. Demonstrating their skill ability by maximizing the certainty of
the intended goal achievement, minimizing their energy expenditure (physically and mentally), and
minimizing the time used (Schmidt Lee, 2015). An athletes cognitive performance will ultimately
reflect in their physical capabilities. In today s society, elite athletes and their followers are
consumed with idea of being even bigger, even faster, and even stronger than ever before. To keep
up with the demands elite athletes face its critical to develop new training methods, allowing

short, Sweden is the ideal... if not to live in then definitely to visit at least once. In this paper I will
analyze Sweden, examining factors of supply and demand, government intervention, real GDP,
and national debt from an economic perspective. The first factor that I will evaluate is how the
Swedish power market has seen a rightward shift in its supply curve over the last forty years. The
Oil Crisis of the 1970s sparked extensive research into alternative energy sources that would
result in a 53.5 percent decrease in oil dependency between 1970 and 2012 (Energy Use in
Sweden). This transition from a finite resource to its renewable counterpart opened the market for
competition in Sweden and, combined with the inelastic demand for power in a modern nation,
increased the quantity available to consumers and decreased the price. As of right now, green
energy cannot be exported very far because it is

Comparing Judaism, Islam, And Christianity
Muhammad Ali, the famous boxer and a renown activist for religious freedom, stated these words:
Rivers, ponds, lakes, and streams they all have different names, but they all contain water. Just as
religions do they all contain truths. There are many different religions. Christianity holds about 2.1
billion followers. Islamhas about 1.3 billion members, and Judaism has about 14 million followers.
That means about 54 percent of people in the world believe one of these three religions. These three
religions followers are looking for the truth. Since they start out very similar, some people think all
those religions are variations of the truth. Judaism, Islam, and Christianitycome from the same
history; however, they branch out into three different beliefs. Even though these three views
received the same founding truth, two of these belief systems fall short of following out the truth
handed to them. Only Christianity is the actual truth. The Jewish, Muslim, and Christian
communities believe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Promised Land. They believe in the many commandments and traditions found in Exodus,

Comparison Essay Twilight vs Vampire Diaries
It s easy to compare Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, partly because they do have similar
premises (teen girls in love with vampires attending high school.
The Vampire Diaries and Twilight really bring different things to the culture of young adult vampire
stories
Sex is one of the differences that are easily compared between both shows. Specifically, who s
having it and who isn t. In the first three novels of Twilight, there is no sex between the protagonist,
Bella, and her vampire boyfriend, Edward, though it s implied that some of the other vampires
are far more open to sex. Bella, who wants sex and tries to seduce Edward into it, is presented as

There s more to life than romantic love, but not a lot more to Bella s life she does make decisions
and pursue the goals important to her.
Elena also has quite a bit of agency. She, too, is the one actively pursuing Stefan, at least in the
beginning. Thankfully, she also pursues goals beyond him: she is struggling to come to terms
with her parents deaths; she wants to help her brother, Jeremy, find a better way to deal with his
grief; she s trying to find her place in the hierarchy of the school social structure when she s
changed and no longer is interested in the place she held before, etc. Her attraction to and, later,
love of Stefan are but part of her personality and that which drives her to act.
Elena does get to see more action than Bella, both sexually but also plot related. She is right there
when vampires attack or a ghost possesses Bonnie or the secret vampire hunters search for
vampires at town, etc. She is fully a part of the human world, comfortable with her friends and
family, and she makes difficult choices in order to keep them safe.
I much prefer Elena to Bella, at least in part because I feel like I know her better and that she is a
more positive role model, but both make decisions and take steps to achieve their goals. I may not
agree with those goals or those actions, but neither Elena nor Bella is a completely blank, inactive
character.

Famous Artist Stereotypes Essay
Stereotypes are well known among humans and many of us have been faced with the criticism of
such stereotypes. One of the most well known stereotypes is those belonging to famous artists.
These stereotypes come from many of the movies created about such artists. Some believe that
famous artists are someone people that are abnormal or odd in their way of thinking or actions.
When asked what comes into someone s mind when asked about famous artists may also be how
they are not famous until death. Along with these beliefs, people believe that artists have a very
active sex life. Through media, these stereotypesare true but in all actuality, they are not correct.
When thinking about famous artists, many people believe that they all suffer from some type of
mental illness. Van Gogh is an example of the stereotype. Seventy days after Vincent moves to
Auvers sur Oise and under the care of Dr. Gachet, he dies from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Many know the artist to be quite ill mentally along with the fact of Van Gogh cutting his own ear
off. The man is known to have had many doctors by his side, checking ... Show more content on

Osmosis in Potatoes
AT1 Osmosis In Potatoes
Aim: Investigate the movement of osmosis through a selectively permeable membrane, in this case
potato.
Introduction: Osmosis is the movement of water through a semi permeable membrane, separating
solutions of different concentrations. The water passes from a region of high concentration to a
region of low concentration, until the two concentrations are equal in concentrations of water.
Many cell membranes behave as semi permeable membranes, and osmosis is a vital mechanism in
the transport of fluids in living organisms, for example, in the transport of water from the soil to the
roots in plants.
If a cell is in contact with a solution of lower water concentration than its own contents, ... Show

Method After having done our preliminary work, we knew exactly which measurements we
needed to use in order to obtain the correct sort of results. We set up 14 test tubes, because in order
to save time, we intended on doing repeats at the same time as the original experiments were going
on.
For organisation s sake, we set up all of the test tubes at once, and labelled them individually to
avoid confusion later on. Into each test tube, we poured 15mls of Glucose solution, and added
one of the potato chips, each weighing around 1 gram, and measuring 33mm by 5mm. In order to
make it as much of a fair test as possible, we added the potato chips very quickly, to make sure one
chip didn t have a longer amount of time in the solution than another. We then left each one for 30
minutes.
After 30 minutes, we emptied each test tube, leaving only the potato chips inside. Before we
measured and weighed each chip, we dabbed them with paper towel. If we had of left excess water
on the chips, the weights would not be accurate. We then measured the chips in mms because they

The Environment Is Destroying The Earth s Natural Resources
Introduction
Every day, society is wasting the Earth s natural resources in an unsustainable way. By
continuing to live in an unsustainable way, it has resulted in the depletion of resources on this
planet. Our lifestyles have caused this to become a problem that needs to be fixed. Populations
of developing countries are wasting our resources at rates never before seen, yet mankind rarely
realizes how it is affecting the planet. If our lifestyles are not changed sooner rather than later,
deeper consequences will occur that will alter our lives forever. The environment is suffering every
time people waste a resource. It has resulted in an increase in global warming that has affected
millions of people around the world and it will continue to do so. There is no definite solution to
this problem, nevertheless as the people of this planet, we can at least do something regarding to it.
By using resources in a sustainable way, it will contribute to the survival of society and the Earth.
More Babies Create Additional Problems Millions of babies are born around the globe daily.
Although the birth of a child is one of the miracles of life, in today s world it might be a problem.
The increase in population has resulted in the higher usage and waste of natural resources globally.
Ecologist Garret Hardin reiterates throughout his essay, The Tragedy of the Commons , how society
must fix the population problem and change our life choices for the welfare of mankind.

They are in reference to a sea of graves, so white they swallow all colors of life. The green of the

Ku Klux Klan In The 1920s
Imagine living in a society in which friends, relatives, and neighbors were killed and discriminated
against the color of their skin. Where did they go wrong? They were human. This was the life of
African Americans, Asians, Catholics, Jews, and immigrants during the revival of the Ku Klux

It Is A Dream Essay
When somebody thinks about a dream they think about something big like being a millionaire
but it could just be to get a dream job or go somewhere in the world. I believe that it is worth is
to dream. In the end a dream gives someone something to work for at life and to keep pushing on
for it also makes them feel good to look forward to something in the future say that they finally
get to go to that place that they have dreamt of going to the anticipation of them going there
make them feel good about themselves because they worked so hard for it. In class we read
books about dreams we read documents about dreams and how some people believe in dreams
and how some people don t. We talked to other people in our class and what their opinion was on
dreams.
I believe it is worth it to dream because it gives a person something to work for. Some people
believe that if somebody just sits around and dreams, then it will come true. Some people now
how dreams work, they have to work for a dream rather than just sitting and waiting their whole
life. We can also see evidence of this in the book The Pearl By John Steinbeckwhere Kino s dream
was to provide a healthy living for his family and he never gave up trying to find a pearl and sell it.

So what exactly is a tavern wench ?
Well, it s basically a period costume but has many modern variations on the theme. A tavern wench
is a woman or girl that serves in a tavern, Inn or Pub. She is basically the focal point of many of
the patrons attentions because she either serves them a frosty brew , dispenses advice or is simply
pleasing on the eye.
A tavern wench from olden times might wear a peasant top with a bustier or corset on top. She
will wear an ankle length skirt. She may wear a cloth cap or bonnet. Her costume accentuates her
figure which she uses to charm the patrons of the tavern.
There are all sorts of tavern wench costumes that are more modern. These include Oktoberfest
serving wench costumes which are fairly accurate representations of the real servers at the annual
Munich beer festival. A derivation on this theme is the Lederhosen serving wench, who wears the
knickerboker pants and braces instead of a skirt. These costumes can be really sexy and ideal if you

  • 4. Hannibal Lecter Villain Hannibal Lecter was the most feared psychopath created by Thomas Harris. Prior to the release of The Silence of The Lamb America thought he was another fictional character. After viewing the movie they began to realize Hannibal Lecter was based off Doctor Alfredo Balli Travino. Travino was convicted and sentenced to death for the manslaughter of his gay lover Rangel. The crime of passion included Travino slicing his neck and draining his blood and methodically chopping Rangel s body into pieces and shoving him into a box. Later he drove to a relative s farm where he and a farm hand buried the box. Upon the discovery of the oddly marked grave, by another worker, the police were informed. They went undercover to Travino s practice and arrested him. Immoral actions are not only in the real world, they are also depicted into novels. This was the final event that sent Iago over the edge; the first event being the rumors of Othello having an affair with Emilia, Iago s wife. Iago s plan is to get Othello to believe that Desdemona is unfaithful to him. Iago s reasoning, jealousy and revenge, is what characterizes him as evil. He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps perpetrate it (Martin Luther King Jr). He who thinks evil thoughts is as responsible as one who acts upon them. It is a vector borne infection (which means it is spread directly from one host to another) transmitted specifically through the bite of an infected tick (Mayo Clinic: Lyme Disease Definition, Aug. 27, 2015). There are certain risk factors which can increase one s chance of contracting Lyme disease. For example: where a person lives can heighten one s likelihood of getting this illness. Tucking pant legs into the top of one s socks is an effective measure, as is wearing hats and gloves, and sticking to trails as much as possible. Secondly, invest in tick repellent; there are many chemical products, such as DEET, or natural protections, like vinegar mixed with essential oil and water, available. Tick proof your property by clearing away brush and tall grass. Also, be mindful that when you spend time outdoors check yourself, your children, and pets frequently for ticks. Ticks like to burrow in dark, warm areas that are difficult to spot: the underarm, groin, hair line and the back of the knee. Cotton, a shrubby plant, thrives in warm climates just suitable for South regions and couldn t be grown in the North, because the climate was too cold. (2) Early in the seventeenth century, agriculture in the American South was dominated by staples or money crops products (tobacco, then rice, indigo, and sugar) that fetched a high price in the marketplaces of Europe; finally came cotton, the king of them all. (3) By 1860, cotton dominated the American economy. The South exported 66 percent of the world s supply, and cotton made up more than half of the supply with almost 90 percent of cotton grown in the South. • 13. Language And Sexism In Language Language plays an important role in society. In large extent it is a mirror of it while at the same time it functions as means of constructing and maintaining that society. As a phenomenon of society, language reflects all the perspectives of human society. Sexism in language has been a controversial topic in sociolinguists since its inception. In this chapter, a historical overview will be made and a definition of sexist language will be provided. Sexism in language exists when language devalues members of a certain gender. Sexist language has many definitions but for the sake of this essay the following definition will be used: [a statement] is sexist if its use constitutes, promotes or exploits an unfair or irrelevant or impertinent distinction between the sexes (Vetterling Braggin 1981:3). Over the years there have been many concerns about gender and language which can be traced to linguistics and to feminist theory. As a research field it developed side by side with the second wave of feminism during the 1960s and 1970s, despite the fact that gender and language have been a debatable issue for a long time. In the week before his death, he had been observed to enter Jerusalem through the East gate, as onlookers laid down palm leaves, to mark the coming of the Messiah . Furthermore, why were the people of Judea so ready to abandon their loyalty to King Herod, and fully support this Jesus character? Have the Jews of Judea lost hope? Jesus told many stories, about lambs, and how he felt everyone was special. Curiously, he also spoke to and offered his help to lepers and prostitutes. Analysis Of The Decade From Hell The Decade From Hell: Terrorism, War, and Recession in the 2000s At the end of 2009, Time Magazine controversially named 2000 2009 The Decade from Hell, citing numerous factors which had contributed to the breakdown of the idyllic view that Americans and many others had previously held of the United States (TIME, 2009). Factors cited included the contested results of the 2000 election, the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks on the twin towers, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, the financial crisis, Detroit s collapse, and revelations about human rightsviolations at the military base in Guantanamo Bay. It wasn t all negative, however. Technology continued to advance rapidly, with smartphones gaining popularity and social media becoming prevalent in the mid 2000s (Dreier, 2015). In 2008, the U.S. made a huge step forward for civil rights, with Barack Obamabecoming the first African American president (and the first president with Muslim roots). Closing out the decade, The Miracle on The Hudson brought a lot of people new hope when a pilot managed to save every passenger on US Airways Flight 1549, which seemed doomed following a double engine failure. The political atmosphere in the early 2000 s was significantly different than that of the Obama years, and thus it is impossible to choose a song that accurately represents the entire decade. • 16. Julius Caesar And Brutus Tragic Hero Analysis A tragic hero tries to do the right thing but has flaws in their character that prevents them from being a true hero. Scholars argue over whether Brutus or Caesar is the tragic hero in the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Both men have tragic flaws which cause their downfall. They are both ambitious. Caesar wanted all the power to himself. On the contrary, Brutus wanted what was best for Rome and to keep a good reputation. Brutus is the tragic heroof the play since he falls the farthest due to the fact that he is too trusting of everyone, he naively allows his enemy to speak out about him, and he lacks self confidence. To begin with, Brutus is too trusting of those around him. Brutus s friend Cassius recognizes that Brutus is driven by what is best for Rome. Because of this Cassius devises a plan to plant a fake petition from the people of Rome stating that Caesar needs to be executed. Brutus never even questions that the petition is real. After reading the petition Brutus response is: Am I entreated To speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise, If the redress will follow, thou receivest Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus! (Shakespeare 2.1.55 58) Brutus agrees to do whatever it takes to help Rome receive justice, even if it means to use violence against his friend. Lastly, due to Brutus killing Caesar, war broke out in Rome. Brutus is creating more chaos for Rome than Caesar is. He is naive and thinks he is doing what is best for Rome, but really ends up hurting Rome. A true hero would have been sceptical about the petition before making decisions about it. Since Brutus is too trusting he did not think twice about the petition which ultimately, leads to his downfall. Another example of Brutus as the tragic hero is his naivety. He foolishly allows his enemy to speak at Caesar s funeral. After Caesar s death the funeral is planned for all of Rome to attend. Brutus allows Mark Antony, Caesar s right hand man, to speak at the funeral. This allows Mark Antony to turn the crowd against Brutus. Mark Antony makes Brutus look like the bad guy by saying: If Brutus so unkindly knocked, or no. For Brutus, as you know, was Caesar s angel. Judge, O you gods, how dearly Caesar loved him! • 40. Sports Athletes Should Not Be Better Than Their Opponent Introduction In the world of sports, competitive athletes are willing to do whatever is necessary to be better than their opponent. The nature of the competitive drive in some athletes is precisely what separates the average from the elite. Compared to their novice counterparts, elite athletes usually have a more extensive knowledge base of sport specific information and are more adept at using said knowledge efficiently to identify, remember and manipulate relevant information in their specialist sport (Swann, Moran, Piggott, 2015). In order to achieve max performance, an elite athlete must be skilled in their craft, meaning they are able to produce the skills needed reliably, on demand, and with very little luck. Demonstrating their skill ability by maximizing the certainty of the intended goal achievement, minimizing their energy expenditure (physically and mentally), and minimizing the time used (Schmidt Lee, 2015). An athletes cognitive performance will ultimately reflect in their physical capabilities. In today s society, elite athletes and their followers are consumed with idea of being even bigger, even faster, and even stronger than ever before. In this paper I will analyze Sweden, examining factors of supply and demand, government intervention, real GDP, and national debt from an economic perspective. The first factor that I will evaluate is how the Swedish power market has seen a rightward shift in its supply curve over the last forty years. The Oil Crisis of the 1970s sparked extensive research into alternative energy sources that would result in a 53.5 percent decrease in oil dependency between 1970 and 2012 (Energy Use in Sweden). This transition from a finite resource to its renewable counterpart opened the market for competition in Sweden and, combined with the inelastic demand for power in a modern nation, increased the quantity available to consumers and decreased the price. Introduction: Osmosis is the movement of water through a semi permeable membrane, separating solutions of different concentrations. Many cell membranes behave as semi permeable membranes, and osmosis is a vital mechanism in the transport of fluids in living organisms, for example, in the transport of water from the soil to the roots in plants.
