Introduction
Traffic Volume :- Number of vehicles crossing a section
of road per unit time at any selected period.
One of the fundamental measures of traffic on a road
system.
Used as a quantity measure of flow.
Unit: vehicles per day and vehicles per hour.
Objectives

Planning Purpose.
Improvement Purpose.
Dynamic traffic management purpose.
Analytical Objectives:
Determination of vehicle composition in traffic stream.
To determine service flow rate in PCU/PCE unit.
Estimation of Average daily traffic (ADT) using expansion
factors.
To determine directional distribution (DD).
Magnitudes, classifications and the time
and directional split of vehicular flows.
Proportions of vehicles.
Hourly, daily, yearly and seasonal
variation of vehicular flows.

Direct method: Data is counted by using hand tally
manual counter.
Indirect method: In this method, data is collected
using video camera. Video is captured for long time and
data is collected later by rewinding.

Conclusion
High proportion of car in the proximity of the location to
residential area of high income group people. High percentages
of car often creates high congestion on road, so flow is
decreased.
The average flow fluctuation curve shows two peaks at 10:30-
11:30am and 11:30-12:30pm.
The directional distribution was more on Russel Square to
Panthapath as it was time of morning rush hour.
Trained and skilled enumerators should collect data
which is first requirement of Manual counting.
Automatic counting system should be introduced for
more reliable data.
Actual expansion factor should be introduced for Dhaka
city.
For design purpose minimum 3 days Data should be
collect.
Before final survey reconnaissance survey or pilot survey
is necessary.
Recommendations
Lack of modern instrument for vehicle counting caused a lot
of work sweating in our job. But still we complete the job as
precise as we can.
Our funding was not there, still we are not demoralized.
Our self-protection equipments were not sufficient to
perform the job safely.
This volume study was practiced by un-skilled enumerators,
which may lead to some error in data collection process.
Data collected by manual method of counting, which is
unreliable and irreversible.

  • 4. Introduction Traffic Volume :- Number of vehicles crossing a section of road per unit time at any selected period. One of the fundamental measures of traffic on a road system. Used as a quantity measure of flow. Unit: vehicles per day and vehicles per hour.
  • 5. Objectives General Objectives: Geometric Design. Roadway traffic Design. Planning Purpose. Improvement Purpose. Dynamic traffic management purpose. Analytical Objectives: Determination of vehicle composition in traffic stream. To determine service flow rate in PCU/PCE unit. Estimation of Average daily traffic (ADT) using expansion factors. To determine directional distribution (DD).
  • 6. Magnitudes, classifications and the time and directional split of vehicular flows. Proportions of vehicles. Hourly, daily, yearly and seasonal variation of vehicular flows. Scope of the study
  • 9. Direct method: Data is counted by using hand tally manual counter. Indirect method: In this method, data is collected using video camera. Video is captured for long time and data is collected later by rewinding.

  • 18. Conclusion High proportion of car in the proximity of the location to residential area of high income group people. High percentages of car often creates high congestion on road, so flow is decreased. The average flow fluctuation curve shows two peaks at 10:30- 11:30am and 11:30-12:30pm. The directional distribution was more on Russel Square to Panthapath as it was time of morning rush hour.
  • 19. Trained and skilled enumerators should collect data which is first requirement of Manual counting. Automatic counting system should be introduced for more reliable data. Actual expansion factor should be introduced for Dhaka city. For design purpose minimum 3 days Data should be collect. Before final survey reconnaissance survey or pilot survey is necessary. Recommendations
  • 20. Lack of modern instrument for vehicle counting caused a lot of work sweating in our job. But still we complete the job as precise as we can. Our funding was not there, still we are not demoralized. Our self-protection equipments were not sufficient to perform the job safely. This volume study was practiced by un-skilled enumerators, which may lead to some error in data collection process. Data collected by manual method of counting, which is unreliable and irreversible. Limitations
