Essay on Week 1 Business Statistics
1.2 Below we list several variables. Which of these variables are quantitative and which are
qualitative?
Quantitative means that the measurement of the value gives an actual quantity that can mean how
much , or how many . Whereas qualitative means we are simply recording into which of the categories
the element falls. (Bowerman, O Connell, Murphree, Orris, J. B. (2012). Essentials of Business
Statistics 4th ed.). A. The dollar amount on an accounts receivable invoice.
This would be quantitative, because it is showing the actual dollar amount and is not grouping it into
different categories. B. The net profit for a company in 2009.
This would fall under quantitative since seeing an actual number for a company and ... Show more

C. Television show classification.
Ordinal Why? Because there is a reasoning behind the classifications. This allows the audience to see
what kind of show they are going to watch. D. Personal computer ownership.
Nominative Why? There is no real reason or ranking as to who owns a computer and who doesn t and
to why they do or they don t. E. Restaurant rating.
Ordinal Why? Because when critics rank restaurants it lets consumers know which ones have been
chosen with the best food and the best service overall. Most people will really want to eat at
restaurants ranked higher. F. Income tax filing status.
Nominal Why? It is just showing a list of classifications of what people are not ranking them in any
order. 3.3 Calculate the mean, median, and mode of each of the following population of numbers.
A. 9, 8, 10, 10, 12, 6, 11, 10, 12, 8
Mean = 9+8+10+10+12+6+11+10+12+8 = 96
Mean = 9.6
Median = 6 8 8 9 10 10 10 11 12 12 = 10+10/2
Median = 10
Mode = 10 Because 10 is the number that appears the most in this group.
B. 110, 120, 70, 90, 90, 100, 80, 130, 140.
Mean = 110+120+70+90+90+100+80+130+140 = 930/9= 103.33
Mean = 103.33
Median = 70 80 90 90 100 110 120 130 140 = 100
Median = 100 this is 100 because it is the number that meets in the middle.
Mode = 90 because it shows up twice

Vietnam War Youth Culture Essay
Youth culture in the United States seems to change with every new fad and style, but the shift in youth
culture during the Vietnam War was something else entirely. Young adults were faced with startling
new things like being drafted into the military and facing violence on the homefront. Young people in
the United States, and soldiers stationed in Vietnam, tried to use drugs as an escape from the reality of
war and death. While the soldiers were fighting overseas, many young people faced their own battles
at home by protesting and and rallying. While looking back into the 1960s and 1970s, it is important
that we recognize the struggles and triumphs of the Vietnam War era youth.
To fully understand the changes of youth culture due to the Vietnam War, it is important to analyze the
United State s involvement in the war to begin with. The Vietnam War was an ongoing, violent
conflict between the Northern Vietnam communists called the Viet Cong and the democratic Southern
Vietnam (Kington, 2012). In the early 1950s, The United States began aiding South Vietnam with
funds and military training against the Viet Cong, over time the United States got more involved in
Vietnam. At one point in 1968, there were about 537,000 United States servicemen in Vietnam and it
was not until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Formal Analysis of Potential Career Choices
A Formal Analysis Of Potential Career Choices
Introduction A formal analysis of the characteristics and outlook for two possible career choices
Policeman vs. Lawyer is a valuable tool in the decision making process used by an employment
candidate to make a successful selection between them. New entrants into the job market face a very
competitive environment and training (or re training) for jobs is frequently expensive and time
consuming. Therefore there is a definite need to make one s career decisions using a comprehensive,
formal analysis in order to promote a successful and satisfying career choice. Background information
was gathered by a search of peer reviewed articles from governmental and professional journal
sources in the literature. These articles provided several important variables to be considered in the
methodology, including: (a) candidate gender; (b) candidate ethnicity; (c) educational level; (d)
physical demands; (e) mental/analytical demands; (f) pathways to advancement; and (g) employment
outlook. These decision variables are identified for each potential career choice and then compared
and contrasted between the career options. A conclusion is then reached as to a recommended best fit
option relative to a candidate s career goals and interests.

Research Paper On Aspartame
There has been many debates on whether aspartame is good for us or not. In the 1960s James
Schlatter, a chemist working for the G.D Searle company, was working on creating a cure for stomach
ulcers and accidently tasted it off of his fingers (Evangelista, n.d.). Little did he know that his cure
would become a popular artificial sweetner in America. The chemical additive consists of,
phenylalaine and aspartic acid, two amino acids, as well as methanol (Wells, 2011). Aspartame is
popular for people who want to lose or maintain a healthy weight. Since it is 200 times more sweet
than actual sugar a lot less calories are needed in order to have the same sweet taste (International
Food Information Council Foundation, 2011). Aspartame is found ... Show more content on

After it was studied three times by independant scientists, it was determined to have a high chance of
inducing brain tumors (Evangelista, n.d.). 74 out of 166 investigations regarding aspartame are
sponsored by aspartame industries. All of the 74 studies claimed aspartame was safe and most of the
ones who weren t supported financially mentioned issues with the safety of this additive (Zimmer
Chiropractic, 2016). It shows how although many organizations support the chemical additive and
many researches have been conducted and support aspartame, we should also consider analysises
which prove aspartame is not safe. Aspartame is a type of excitotoxine, which excites the brain cells
so much they quickly die. This chemical plays a major role in degenerative nervous system diseases
such as Parkinson s and alzeihmer s (Lant, 2015). An experiment has also been conducted on seven
infant monkeys. They injested milk and aspartame only. After 300 days, one of the seven monkeys
died, five of the same seven monkeys had grad mal seizures. The results of this experiment were
hidden from the FDA when G.D Searle submitted the inital applications (Evangelista, n.d.). Many
medical effects have been known to be caused by aspartame such as; dizziness, seizures, headaches,
certain cancers and birth defects (The Healthline Editorial Team, 2015). In short, people have cheated
the system into accepting a chemical that is not healthy. That is morally

A Comparison Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and actual happenings from the war display
many similarities. The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or
letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking
from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and
see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World
War 1.
Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book
sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead
bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious
business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one s
fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book
that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking
lice out and burning them in a tin. Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling
immodesties. (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying
how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he s
comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is
the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul
describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their
lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat the kind we
call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were
many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches.
Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. There was also a big problem with
lice that tormented the soldiers on a daily basis. (Heirs, 2014). In the article it

Personally I think because girls behave better than boys, girls need education as much as boys did or
sometime girls even need it more due to an old tradition that boys will always be better than girls.
Education will be a perfect prove for girls to say they can be as good as boy or better than them. Rules

Rainer Maria Rilke Panther
In the vision that Rainer Maria Rilke pointed out in his poem Panther was describing a panther he
observed at the zoo that ended up being captured, in the cage looking tired , hopeless and very weak ,
Rainer Maria Rilke describes in the poem about being a caged animal and not being set free to move
around in the natural habitat or environment .
Rainer Maria Rilke was considered to be the most significant poets in the German language, Rilke was
a Bohemian Australian poet , Rilke did not have a happy life as a child his mother lost a daughter at
only one week old and tried to bring her daughter life back through her son , which she tried to dress

The words constantly passing bars (Rilke 1) forms the image of bars blurring past the panther; the
panther s vision has beheld the great quantity of bars for so long that it has grown so weary , it cannot
hold/anything else (Rilke 2 3) . A thousand bars (Rilke, 4) further develops the imagery. This large
number is likely an exaggeration and it works to intensify the ideas of stress and confinement .
The Panther despicts the picture of a panther being secured an enclosure and not being able to roam
around to have his freedom of opportunity. In the underlying period of the sonnet, Rainer Maira Rilke
says that despite the fact that the panther is a solid creature, it has been secured a confined room and is
denied its freedom
Rainer Maria Rilke , says that since the panther is tired to the point that he can t understand where he
is and can assume that there are just bars around him from all sides and he can t get out from that
point, regardless of how hard he attempts. He continues hovering in the cage believing that some way
or another he could get out and don t appear to will to get subdued.
It depicts how individuals see and are being seen by the outside world and tragically, those eyes does

Petri Dish Lab Report

BIO102 Spring Semester 2015 February 24, 2015
Introduction For this lab the experiment was to test how effective the antibiotic properties were in four
substances. The hypothesis that I conducted for this lab was that if the disks containing the substances
had a zone of inhibition then the antibiotic effect could be measured and compared. The part that
would be measured is the diameter of the zone if inhibition. The independent variables would be the
substances (P 10, S 10, C 30, and TE 30) and the dependent would be the zone of inhibition which is
what would be measured. Some of the standardized variables for this experiment were the bacteria, the
petri dish, and the nutrient. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We measured the greatest diameter for each substance which told us the zone of inhibition. To
measure each we used a ruler and measured the diameters in millimeters. After recording each zone of
inhibition we copied our results onto the board and compared out answers to other classmates. After
comparing the results we then copied all the data onto a table and calculated the mean for each
substance plus the control. When we completed the table we then calculated the percent of difference
and placed the results into a table by using the means. After doing so, we created a graph that
illustrated the mean zone of inhibition for each one of the substances.
Results
In order to compare the difference of each substance we had to calculate the percent of difference for
each substance. The control vs the P 10 was calculated to be 65% which was the lowest percent. The
next substance which was not as high was the TE 30, when compared to the control it was 123%. One
substance that was higher was S 10, when it was compared to the control it was calculated to be 145%.
The biggest difference was C 30, when this substance was compared to the control it was 239%.

Upper Body Injury Essay
In the discussion at hand few where asked to to select an upper body injury in any sport and elaborate
on the subject matter. The first thing that we need to do is define the appendicular skeleton. The axial
skeleton includes all the bones (that form bony structures) along the body s long axis. The bones of the
appendicular skeleton make up the rest of the skeleton and are so called because they are appendages
of the axial skeleton. The appendicular skeleton includes the bones of the shoulder girdle, the upper
limbs, the pelvic girdle, and the lower limbs. (Publishing). The injury that I was enlightening to
highlight within the appendicular skeleton is tennis elbow or in medical terms (lateral epicondylitis.
The sport that this is most prevalent in is weight lifting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Voltaire s Candide
Everything happens for the best, in this the best of all possible worlds. This is a statement that can be
found many times within Voltaire s Candide. Voltaire rejected Lebitizian Optimism, using Candide as
a means for satirizing what was wrong with the world, and showing that, in reality, this is not the best
of all possible worlds.
The philosophy of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, which Voltaire called optimism, is one of the main
themes of Candide. The two main points of Leibnitzian philosophy are that God is beneficent, and that
in creating the world, He created the best possible one. Leibnitz did not argue that the world was
perfect or that evil was non existent, but thanks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voltaire does most of his satirizing through the character of Dr. Pangloss, an unconditional follower of
Leibnitz s philosophy and Candide s mentor. Pangloss ramblings are not personal attacks on Leibnitz,
but in some way represent the thoughts of a typical optimist. He is a very hopeful character in the
story because he refuses to accept bad. When Candide encounters Pangloss after a long period of time,
Pangloss explains how he was almost hanged, then dissected, then beaten. Candide asks the
philosopher if he still believes that everything is for the best, and Pangloss replies that he still held his
original views. Voltaire frequently exaggerates his point on optimism; there is nobody in reality who is
positive about everything all the time, especially after so many horrible experiences. One could say
that Pangloss is irrational and idiotic, and Voltaire tries to depict how inexplicable his beliefs are
which do not measure up to reality.
Another example of how Voltaire ridicules Pangloss optimistic philosophy is the mention of the
Lisbon earthquake and fire. Even though the disastrous earthquake took over 30,000 lives, Pangloss
still upheld his philosophical optimism by stating, quot; For all that is for the best...It is impossible that
things should not be other than they are; for everything is right. (26) quot; The disaster in Lisbon
affected Voltaire s life so much that he wrote the Poem

The Role Of Mitochondrial Respiration In Macrophages
Mitochondrial respiration is the final process of metabolic reactions to generate biological energy
(ATP) along with glycolysis and Krebs cycle. Mitochondrial respiration is critical not only host
immune cells to limit the IVI but also influenza virus to replicate the genes for survival by exploiting
energy source. Interestingly, influenza virus leads hypoactive mitochondrial respiration in epithelial
cells but causes hyperactive mitochondrial respiration in immune cells, especially macrophages, so
that stimulates the generation of ROS and antiviral signaling pathways. Thus, regulation of
mitochondrial respiration in alveolar macrophages can be a potential target of IVI. Recent evidences
suggested that miRNAs can modulate mitochondrial respiration

How does Act 1 of Antony and Cleopatra prepare the audience for tragedy?
In this essay i will discuss how act of Antony and Cleopatra prepare the audience for tragedy. Firstly
the character of Antony is one of three who rule Rome after the assassination of Julius Caedar. But
Antony s popularity is shortlived, as Shakespeare s audience discovers when Act I opens in
Alexandria, Egypt, where Antony languishes under the spell of Cleopatra s incomparable beauty and
charm. She spends her every wile and witchery on binding his heart to hers and the world and Rome

Cleopatra has not yet captured the whole of his soul, and Antony returning back to Rome shows that
there is going to be a big twist in the story which will create a tragedy.
Antony is a seasoned leader a leader with charisma, experience and resolve he enjoys the admiration
of his soldiers and the Roman citizens, as we find out from the conversation between Lepidus and
Caesar the other two leaders of Rome. They show the reader how Antony was before he met Cleopatra
Thou didst drink the stale of horses and the gilded puddle this suggests that Antony used to drink
horses urine and filthy water to keep him going in his battle which shows his dedication to the country.
However, as Caesar suggests that Antony has changed This is the news: he fishes, drinks, and wastes
the lamp of night in revel which suggests that Antony is corrupt and he wastes his nights wheras he
should be supporting his country and being more responsible. This might prepare the audience for
tragedy as Antony s behaviour may cause conflict between Caesar and Antony as Caesar praises
Antony for how he used to be and makes him angry seeing Antony being irresponsible now and as
readers it makes us think that the attitude of Caesar towards Antony may cause conflict in the
upcoming or rather there could be conflict between Antony and Caesar involving Cleopatra.
To conclude there are many event in Act 1 which prepares the reader for a tragedy but it cannot be
made clear as to what the tragedy may be.

Summary Of Cato A Tragedy By Joseph Addison
Joseph Addison was an esteemed writer, and founder of The Spectator magazine. Throughout his work
Addison emphasized his reader to build strong responsible values. The essence of this responsibility is
to be diligent, and continuous improve one s virtues to improve the state of order. Responsibility is
encouraged through the works of Joseph Addison s in Spare Time , Cato, a Tragedy , The Spectator .
Addison ingrains the principles of responsibility in his Article Spare Time . Addison promotes his
readers to ...advise the ignorant, relieve the needy, and comfort the afflicted... (Addison). Thus, his
intent is to influence his audience to make an impact on society by motivating social ameliorate. These
seed can be seen in his reflection on Seneca work as We are always complaining our days are few and

historical stories, Addison is able to wrench in his thesis that people must expert more responsible

The American Rocky and the Russian Machine Drago
Americans may be altruistic, but we Russians are winners. My arrogant trainer wants me to win for
himself and Mother Russia, and not for me. My wife disparages all Americans as if they are
undeserving, worthless humans. They continuously tell me to stay taciturn, but I know deep down that
I should voice my opinion. That American Rocky is the antithesis of the Russian machine Drago.
When I am done with him, his face will be crenelated. It was a given that the fight promoters would
always try to embellish a fight, but this fight needed no extra promotion or incentive to come. The
whole world would be watching. I have laud Rocky for his story. He came from nothing and now is

America counting on Rocky, I knew the match would be anything but subtle. The fight was given the
superfluous name of World War III . When I killed Apollo Creed in the ring, I felt no discern for what
I had done. All I could think was how proud I had made my country. Not that I had just murdered a
man. As the press promoted the fight more and more, my disdain for all of America grew.
Rocky is known for his amazing abilities, but I am afraid this will be the defamation of him. They told
me to be an autonomous machine that couldn t lose. My hypocritical trainer, Ivan, accused Rocky of

Dna Ligase Essay
In humans, three major types of DNA ligases are reported: DNA ligase I (hligI), DNA ligase III
(hligIII) and DNA ligase IV (hligIV). hligI plays an important role in DNA replication by joining
Okazaki fragments on the lagging strand of DNA. Apart from this it also plays important roles in DNA
damage repair pathways, single strand breaks are repaired by nucleotide excision repair (NER) and
base excision repair (BER) pathways. Results of preclinical studies support that Human DNA ligases
are an attractive target for the development of new anticancer agents for selective inhibition against
rapidly proliferating cancer cells. In this mini review, we will provide a brief discourse of the recently

human DNA ligase I (hligI). Nucleoside analogs such as 9 β D arabinofuranosyl 2 fluoroadenine (F

Fig. 4: Structures of hligI Inhibitors: Binds AMP binding site of AdD The DNA binding domain
(DBD) of human ligase interacts with the minor groove of DNA, Adenylation domain (AdD),
oligonucleotide/oligosaccharide binding fold (OB fold) of hLigI and it stimulates the DNA end joining
activity of the catalytic core.[2, 5] Thus, inhibition of DNA ligation can be accomplished by targeting
the DBD with specific inhibitors. Some ligase inhibitors that target the DBD, inhibit the transfer of

Arthur Dimmesdale And Double Life In Hawthorne By...
Isn t it remarkable how Arthur Dimmesdale manages to somehow, for seven years, keep his private
life separate from his public one? In regards to Arthur s behavior, Hawthorne states, No man, for a
considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without getting
bewildered as to which may be true. To restate Hawthorne s quote: no one can be true to him or
herself, while lying to everyone because soon enough one will confuse the act with reality. Having a
Dimmesdale s style of living results in living a double life, plenty of penance, and self damage
affecting loved ones.
First off, when someone walks around with two faces, he or she will begin to live with two distinct
lives as well. For example, Dimmesdale is seen as the greatest saint in the Puritan community, but he
is secretly holding onto an unrepented sin. His humanly desires get the best of him when he commits
adultery with Hester Prynne and hence produces an elf child named Pearl. The sinner is put on a
pedestal and adored by his congregation in broad daylight. On the other hand, he is self convicted
through severe physical and mental reprimanding in the middle of the night. In the novel, Hawthorne
explains, In Mr. Dimmesdale s secret closet, under lock and key, there was a bloody scourge...he kept
his vigils... until his knees trembled beneath him...sometimes in utter darkness...his brain often reeled
and visions seemed to flit before him... (Hawthorne 141). At Dimmesdale s Election

Symptoms And Treatment Of Pituitary Apoplexy Essay
PITUITARY APOPLEXY INTRODUCTION Pituitary apoplexy is a rare condition that can be missed
or misdiagnosed if a strong clinical suspicion is not present. The consequences can be deleterious for
vision or even life threatening. This remains a poorly understood entity in both its pathogenesis and
optimal management. The aim of treatment is to preserve life, vision and functionality of the gland.
There is still controversy regarding the optimal management of these patients, especially conservative
versus surgical management and the timing of surgical intervention. What is known for sure is that the
diagnosis of pituitary apoplexy remains a neuroendocrine emergency and requires decision making as
to whether to manage the patient conservatively or surgically. CASE A 33 year old female presented to
the Emergency Department of the University Hospital of the West Indies with a one month history of
worsening headaches and a two day history of visual deterioration. She also complained of irregular
menstrual periods for the previous six months and galactorrhoea for three months. There was no
change in her conscious level, no seizures or syncopal episodes. She denied any fever or photophobia.
The headaches were mostly frontal with a severity of 9 on the visual analog scale (VAS). There was
no previous history of an chronic illnesses. She was admitted to the Ophthalmology service for
investigation of her deteriorating vision. She was referred to the neurosurgical department

The 2016 Miss America Contest allowed fifty two women to compete for the honor of being crowned
as the most tantalizingly beautiful woman in America. However, unlike previous years this pageant

to being physically stunning. She galvanized a social movement that brought awareness to a

decades. Kelly Johnson, Miss Colorado, stood in front of millions of viewers during the televised

The Military During World War One
James Frances Ryan is a private of the military during World War One. After his mother has receive
condolences letters stating that three of her four sons have been killed in combat, there is an urgent
need to save private Ryan and bring him home. Throughout this entire film, I felt a sense of pride and
uneasiness. I felt pride because of the fact that our country took into consideration the way that this
mother has to feel after losing three of her four children and the need to save her last child so that he
can return home to comfort her. I felt a sense of uneasiness because I knew that despite the fact that
they were doing this out of the good in their hearts, it wouldn t be an easy task to complete because
lives would be lost since they are still at war. Not only to they have to fight for their lives but also try
to find another person who they ve never met and get him back safely. There are 3 specific scene
throughout this film that I believe are crucial to the understanding and the emotions I felt while
watching it. The opening scene of this film definitely sets the tone for what is about to happen
throughout this entire movie. While they are on the ship approaching the shore of Omaha Beach you
can sense the tension and fear of the soldiers. They are shaking, throwing up, saying prayers all before

Examples Of Figurative Language In The Great Gatsby
In the novel, The Great Gatsby, the author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, employs different types of figurative
language to construct representations of the motifs and to help enhance them. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote
novels and short stories during the Jazz Age in American History. He had led a tough life and gone
through two relationships prior to his wife, Zelda. Both Zelda and Fitzgerald started falling apart when
they turned to drinking and partying and eventually, she was admitted to an insane asylum. Shortly
after, he decided to write, The Great Gatsby, which was staged around his life. In this novel, Fitzgerald
parallels himself around two of the main male characters, Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway. He tells
about his life and of his closest acquaintances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, while Nick is at Gatsby s party, he starts to describe what he sees. Most of the things that
Nick says are examples of symbolism. In this example, Nick states, In his blue gardens men and girls
came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars. (Fitzgerald, 39).
Since a simile is the comparison using the words like or as , the example present is comparing the man
and the girls who enjoy Gatsby s party, much like moths enjoy the light. This is a quote describing the
people because it means they didn t show up to meet with Gatsby, but, in fact, they are only present
for the party. In the next example, Fitzgerald is developing the character, Jay Gatsby, by showing his
wealth through the narrator, Nick Carraway. Again, Nick Carraway is describing what he sees which is
Gatsby s station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. (Fitzgerald, 39). The
example displayed above indicates how similar a station wagon is to a brisk yellow bug and how alike
they behave. To summarize, Fitzgerald incorporated similes as a type of figurative language in The
Great Gatsby to describe both the setting and the characters throughout the

Holden Caulfield Relevant Today
Many consider The Catcher in the Rye to be the most poignant and popular story of adolescence in
American literature. Reading reviews, examining the public reception, and uncovering depths of
research would evidence this well. However, the value of the novel rests not in its popularity a simple
sign of its inherent value but in its ability to resonate truth. More than merely telling a story, Salinger
creates a relatable life through the actions and attitudes of his ornery adolescent character Holden
Caulfield. Even though Holden can be annoying and the setting of the novel dated, his perspective of
the world makes The Catcher in the Rye just as relevant to Australian teenagers today as it was back in
1951 when first published. The characterization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This continues to make the novel just as relevant to Australian youth in 2018. During his meeting with
his history teacher Mr Spencer, before Holden leaves Pencey, he explains why he left Elkon Hills. He
attributes, One of the biggest reasons I left... was because I was surrounded by phonies. They were
coming in the god damn window...Mr Haas... was the phoniest bastard you ve ever seen. (pg. 12)
Holden s reference to the adjective phonies is the first of many references to people who he sees as
fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the principal, an adult in a position of authority as a
phony coupled with a derogatory insult such as bastard indicates his negative and critical view of
those who he sees as fake, particularly adults. This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens
today. Moreover, his scepticism of phonies is eptimized in his description of his brother D.B he tells
the reader that now [D.B] is out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. If there s one thing I hate, it s the
movies, (pg.1). Through the first person narration and the language choice of the noun prostitute it is
clear that Holden views Hollywood as the center of superficiality a world where nothing is genuine or
real. The strong language choice of the verb hate , illustrates Holden s negative views of this aspect of
the adult world. This scepticism of a lack of authenticity in the world makes the novel relatable to a
contemporary audience. A Forbes article entitle Authenticity: The Way To The Millennial s Heart,
outlines that authenticity can be considered to be one of the ten values regarded as most essential to
youth. As teenagers our world view is influenced by technology and social media. Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram the plethora of social media has made it easier to fake it. Before any scheduled meeting,

Risk Factors For Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
The search for specific maternal risk factors for fetal alcohol syndrome has been researched for more
than two decades. The most obvious risk factor for FAS is alcohol. The more alcohol that a mother
drinks during pregnancy, the greater the chance of the baby having the abnormalities and symptoms of
FAS when born. The baby may be born with abnormalities such as microcephaly, craniofacial defects,
and behavioral problems. The abnormalities that the baby is born with is dependent on the amount of
alcohol that the mother drinks while pregnant (May et al). Researchers have not yet found a way to
prevent FAS or found a safe amount of alcohol that a pregnant woman can drink. Experts do know
that fetal alcohol syndrome is completely preventable if the woman does not drink alcohol throughout
the pregnancy. Some ways to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

one child with FAS does not have another child with FAS. Once a confirmed case of FAS has been

with more pregnancies. FAS studies consistently report that women who have had one FAS child, and

Why Shouldn T Animals Be Kept In Zoos
Aren t animals so cute? They are the best! But some people harm these precious animals, by locking
them up in cages and taking them to zoos. Is this right? No! Why? One reason why is because they
will suffer from loneliness. A second reason why is because they will die. A third reason why animals
should not be kept in zoos is because they will not know how to survive in the wild once they are let
free. I object to keeping animals in zoos. First of all, keeping animals in zoos adds to an animal s
loneliness. Humans hate loneliness and animals hate it too. The first reason why animals should not be
kept in zoos is because they will suffer from loneliness. For example, the animal will miss its family
in which it was separated from. Another example is that it will not have friends that will accompany it.
The final example is that the animal could not learn from others because it is lonely and there is no
one to teach it. Would you be happy if you were in a cage by yourself lonely. I wouldn t be. It is the
same for the animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people harm it by beating it when it doesn t follow the rules. The second reason that explains how
animals will die when they are brought into zoos is that they die from loneliness. Remember dying is

The Food Of Biscuits And Imports Of Various Biscuits...
There are a few large local manufacturers of different biscuits and imports of various biscuit brands in
Fiji. Punjas and Flour Mills of Fiji (FMF) Foods Limited are a few local manufactures of different
types of biscuits produced in Fiji for local and international consumption (FMF Foods Limited, 2016).
Biscuit products that are being sold in Fiji market are well differentiated through different packagings
and manufacturer brand names (Punjas, n.d.). Consumers in Fiji do not show loyalty towards any
particular products, this is because Fiji has low GDP and income per capita. Therefore consumers
buying is totally dependent on the price of the product (Schultz, 2009). In late 2004, Fiji Government
accepted a competition policy based on the principle of promoting contestability by eliminating entry
and exit barriers, market agents must be free to enter and exit the market (Dakunimata, n.d.). This
approach gives a sound basis for promoting better competition and thus entrepreneurship in Fiji (
Strategic development plan 2007 2011, n.d.). There is a range of biscuit products that are
manufactured in Fiji and imported internationally that can act as a substitute for Griffin s biscuits

The Dark Knight
You only have your thoughts and dreams ahead of you. You are someone. You mean something. Very
inspirational quote right, maybe it came from the president or Oprah, someone big right? It came from
a fictional character in a comic book, Batman the Dark Knight. Comics have become something
greater than what people consider them to be. Especially the characters portrayed in said comics.
Comic books are literally larger than life, the characters in these comics may have superpowers or live
in a place that would only exist in the craziest of dreams. But they are written so well that it really
does convince one to believe that a place like this may actually exist and that anything can happen in
it. This is how they get the reader, into the comic; and because of this you are entertained. We read our
favorite comic books and take in the lessons written in each and every page. Such as Batman. Batman
is one of the greatest and well known heroes in the comic book world. He has been very popular in
pop culture throughout the years because of television and movie adaptations.
When I was growing up I was first introduced to the Dark Knight by my dad when he would turn on
the television every Saturday morning and tune into Batman The Animated Series. I remember
instantly gaining interest in it because he was really cool, he fought bad guys, and he had all these
gadgets that helped him fight for justice.

Historical Context Of Le Corbusier
When considering the cultural and social aspects of a building, one must study the historical context of
its construction. In the 1920 s, European architecture was beginning to integrate traditional elements
with the new social demands for modern technology. Although many architects and engineers were
involved, Le Corbusier was the French architect who people today believe led this architectural
revolution in Europe. Few are aware of the fact that Pierre Chareau also played a significant role in
this modernist movement. Originally a furniture designer, the Maison de Verre was his first full scale
architectural project. Doctor Jean Dalsace and his wife Annie commissioned Chareau to design their

argue that the Maison de Verre is an interruption in the continuity of the Haussmannian buildings of
the neighbourhood, it is still hidden away and shielded from the public eye. It may look like the odd
one out, but it reflects the personality of Chareau himself as many architects today consider him as an
outsider . It must be remembered that the Maison de Verre, although an overall individual achievement
in the eyes of modern architecture, was a collaboration between Pierre Chareau and Bernard Bijvoet, a
contemporary Dutch architect who kept a low and modest profile in relation to the buildings he
contributed to. In addition, the skilled metalworker and craftsman Louis Dalbet contributed to the
fabrication of the mechanical toys. Although it received initial criticism for its controversial nature,
the Maison de Verre is a unique and significant contribution to 20th century architecture. Since its

The Tortilla Curtain Essay
Racism as well as immigration, class and acceptance of minorities have been a highly discussed issue
well known throughout the world. In many cases, we are able to see and identify the problems that
immigrants may face while coming into the U.S, as well as those problems they face while already
living here. In the novel written by T.C. Boyle, however, as readers we are introduced to a variety of
different emotions and ideas as told from two completely different families living in Topanga Canyon.

The symbolism behind this is the values and ideas he has against the immigrants. These racist
thoughts stretch throughout the book, each idea being connected to another with the description of
Delaney s feelings towards the Mexicans. As opposed to Delaney, the author also tells the story from
the point of view from three other characters being Kyra, Candido, and America. The importance of
viewing the immigrants lives is that the readers are able to see the struggles that these immigrants go

Like in today s world, life for immigrants is difficult and they suffer a great amount. Their intentions

AIS 630 PROBLEM BASED LEARNING
SESSION 1
After graduating from UiTM, you and a group of friends have decided to start a business. Your first
venture is a small trading company selling Product X and you are operating from a rented store in
Shah Alam. Your products can either be purchased directly at the store or be delivered to customer
upon receiving order via phone call or mail. For phone order customers, the order form will be filled
out by the sales person attending to their phone calls. As for mail order customers, they can print the
order form that can be downloaded from the company website. At present, the website contains only
brief information about the company and products. Interested customers need to call customer service

Discuss what could be the real problem if you find it to be the latter.
e) Develop project goals for each of the problem identified.
f) Compare the project goals with the systems request. Use the project goals to determine which part
of the request goes beyond the scope of your project.
Systems Planning Project Management
After finalizing the preliminary investigation, you meet with En. Rashdan again. The discussion lasts
for an hour and at the end of the meeting you say to him Rashdan, I want you to lead this project. I can
see that you have all the qualities to become a good project manager. You may now start planning for
the project activities . En. Rashdan promises to get back to you the following day.
The next morning, you see a report on your table. It is from En. Rashdan. On one of the pages, you
find a summary of the proposed project activities presented in a table as follows:
| |ACTIVITY |PREDECESSOR |DURATION (days) |
|A |Conduct interview |None |5 |
|B |Administer questionnaires |A |5 |

Bai and Sun s Sandwich Beam Theory
Bai and Sun s sandwich beam theory was the consideration of the transverse, longitudinal, and
rotatory inertia all in one set of equations. The sandwich beam dimensions used by Bai and Sun are
shown in Figure 1. Fig 1:Three Layer sandwich beam Assuming that the face layers are elastic and
behave as Bernoulli Euler beams, with negligible shear deformation, the longitudinal and transverse
displacements and at any point within the face layers may be written as i=1,2 (1) Where and are the
longitudinal and transverse displacements of the centroid of the ith face layer, respectively, and is the
distance from the centroid of the ith face layer as shown in Fig. 2. Fig2: Local coordinate systems for
sandwich beam layers The displacement field in the viscoelastic core varies nonlinearly in both the x
and z directions. Following an elasticity analysis, Bai and Sun [6] assumed that the longitudinal and
transverse displacement of the core is (2) In Equation (2), and are the longitudinal and transverse
displacement of the centroid Of the core. and provide information on the variation of the transverse
normal and shear deformation, respectively. r 2( 1 + ) represents the modular ratio, where , is the

Mexican Descent In America
The United States of America has long been known as an immigrant s country. It is a melting pot of all
different races, ethnicities, and nationalities. However, the time elapsed between the foundation of
America and now has led to the development of the American identity. American nationalism has
changed the scope and parameters of who is truly American, and who is welcomed in America. The
United States is no longer a country of immigrants, it is a country filled with citizens of diverse
heritage, but they all identify as an American. This poses a problem for those who still wish to
immigrate to America. It is still described as a place where there is a possibility of an American
Dream, and where anyone can become anything.
The 2016 American Community Survey (ACS) measured immigrants to make up 13.5 percent of the
US population, or approximately 43.3 million people nationally (Zong Batalova 2017). Americans
perceive the typical immigrant in America to be of Mexican descent, and there is truth to these
assumptions. Of the 43.3 million immigrants, those of Mexican descent make up 27 percent of the
total number of immigrants in America (Zong Batalova 2017). This makes them the highest number of

In January 2017, Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. President
Trump has spoken of immigrants, particularly from Mexico, in a highly negative light, characterizing
them as criminals. He has proclaimed Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists (Reilly 2016).
Whether these claims carry truth or not, when the leader of the free world has publically described a
certain subset of people as criminals, a negative connotation of that particular group is commonly
created. It is important to understand how this negative connotation of Mexican immigrants affects
this population in order to understand the consequences of

The Gods In Geoffrey Philp s The Cattle Of The Sun God
As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot better to
have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey was a great
example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so long was because of
the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not have gotten home at all.
In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves that signify Poseidon not
letting Odysseus go home. The image is very good at showing the hopelessness the ship in. Also,
Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a similar point of the power and what
can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it shows only how awful the gods can be. It is
about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In
the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods.
The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. In the
Odyssey the main character, Odysseus makes a brutal mistake that got a god to be his enemy. In book
9 after, Odysseus blinds Poseidon s son Polyphemus and tricks him to think his name is nobody. But
after he escapes, he shows hubris and starts to taunt, he mockingly gloats, Cyclops if any man on earth
ask you who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus raider of cities, he gouged your eye,

Cathedral In Chartres Research Paper
When we enter a space such as a church or chapel, the architecture and decor add to our experience.
We are often led to reflect and even question our morals, values, and belief system. Sometimes a space
can even take us away from our hectic lives and place us in a safe haven or make us feel as if we are
somewhere else, such as Heaven. The theological vision varies between each cathedral or church,
depending on the location, creator, and time period. Each space provides us with a different journey.
Cathedral in Chartres Even before entering this Holy space, one must walk under heavily decorated
arches. There are far too many archivolts, figures around the arches, to describe the symbolism and
significance of all of them, but they can be grouped. Some of them portray the seven liberal arts:

The north portal illustrates the Old Testament and the Virgin Mary, the south portal illustrates the New
Testament, and the west portal, also known as the Royal Portal illustrate Christ and Mary. In northern
Europe, the north façade of the church was focused on themes of the Old Testament and the Virgin
Mary. On the north transcept of Chartres, illustrations are focused on the precursors and preparations
for Christ leading up to the moment of His incarnation. Another distinctive feature of Chartres is its
three part elevation with the external buttresses allowing for larger glass windows than previous
designs. Unlike most cathedrals built during the same period, the window panes were filled with
equally dense stained glass, creating a dark, but rich panel of illuminated narration. The high
clerestory windows along the nave, the aisle and ambulatory windows and the rose windows, and
transepts in the north and south portals are the allow for natural light to illuminate the cathedral.

Quantitative means that the measurement of the value gives an actual quantity that can mean how much , or how many . The dollar amount on an accounts receivable invoice. This would be quantitative, because it is showing the actual dollar amount and is not grouping it into different categories. B. • 3. Vietnam War Youth Culture Essay Youth culture in the United States seems to change with every new fad and style, but the shift in youth culture during the Vietnam War was something else entirely. Young adults were faced with startling new things like being drafted into the military and facing violence on the homefront. Young people in the United States, and soldiers stationed in Vietnam, tried to use drugs as an escape from the reality of war and death. While the soldiers were fighting overseas, many young people faced their own battles at home by protesting and and rallying. While looking back into the 1960s and 1970s, it is important that we recognize the struggles and triumphs of the Vietnam War era youth. To fully understand the changes of youth culture due to the Vietnam War, it is important to analyze the United State s involvement in the war to begin with. The Vietnam War was an ongoing, violent conflict between the Northern Vietnam communists called the Viet Cong and the democratic Southern Vietnam (Kington, 2012). In the early 1950s, The United States began aiding South Vietnam with funds and military training against the Viet Cong, over time the United States got more involved in Vietnam. A Formal Analysis of Potential Career Choices A Formal Analysis Of Potential Career Choices Introduction A formal analysis of the characteristics and outlook for two possible career choices Policeman vs. Lawyer is a valuable tool in the decision making process used by an employment candidate to make a successful selection between them. New entrants into the job market face a very competitive environment and training (or re training) for jobs is frequently expensive and time consuming. Therefore there is a definite need to make one s career decisions using a comprehensive, formal analysis in order to promote a successful and satisfying career choice. Background information was gathered by a search of peer reviewed articles from governmental and professional journal sources in the literature. These articles provided several important variables to be considered in the methodology, including: (a) candidate gender; (b) candidate ethnicity; (c) educational level; (d) physical demands; (e) mental/analytical demands; (f) pathways to advancement; and (g) employment outlook. These decision variables are identified for each potential career choice and then compared and contrasted between the career options. A conclusion is then reached as to a recommended best fit option relative to a candidate s career goals and interests. In the 1960s James Schlatter, a chemist working for the G.D Searle company, was working on creating a cure for stomach ulcers and accidently tasted it off of his fingers (Evangelista, n.d.). Little did he know that his cure would become a popular artificial sweetner in America. The chemical additive consists of, phenylalaine and aspartic acid, two amino acids, as well as methanol (Wells, 2011). Aspartame is popular for people who want to lose or maintain a healthy weight. After it was studied three times by independant scientists, it was determined to have a high chance of inducing brain tumors (Evangelista, n.d.). 74 out of 166 investigations regarding aspartame are sponsored by aspartame industries. All of the 74 studies claimed aspartame was safe and most of the ones who weren t supported financially mentioned issues with the safety of this additive (Zimmer Chiropractic, 2016). It shows how although many organizations support the chemical additive and many researches have been conducted and support aspartame, we should also consider analysises which prove aspartame is not safe. Aspartame is a type of excitotoxine, which excites the brain cells so much they quickly die. This chemical plays a major role in degenerative nervous system diseases such as Parkinson s and alzeihmer s (Lant, 2015). An experiment has also been conducted on seven infant monkeys. They injested milk and aspartame only. After 300 days, one of the seven monkeys died, five of the same seven monkeys had grad mal seizures. The results of this experiment were hidden from the FDA when G.D Searle submitted the inital applications (Evangelista, n.d.). • 6. A Comparison Of All Quiet On The Western Front All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and actual happenings from the war display many similarities. The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking from All Quiet on the Western Front to actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World War 1. Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one s fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking lice out and burning them in a tin. Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling immodesties. (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he s comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat the kind we call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. There were many dead bodies buried nearby and the latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches. Millions of rats infested the trenches and some grew as big as cats. There was also a big problem with lice that tormented the soldiers on a daily basis. (Heirs, 2014). In the article it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The hypothesis that I conducted for this lab was that if the disks containing the substances had a zone of inhibition then the antibiotic effect could be measured and compared. The part that would be measured is the diameter of the zone if inhibition. The independent variables would be the substances (P 10, S 10, C 30, and TE 30) and the dependent would be the zone of inhibition which is what would be measured. Some of the standardized variables for this experiment were the bacteria, the petri dish, and the nutrient. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After recording each zone of inhibition we copied our results onto the board and compared out answers to other classmates. When we completed the table we then calculated the percent of difference and placed the results into a table by using the means. After doing so, we created a graph that illustrated the mean zone of inhibition for each one of the substances. Voltaire rejected Lebitizian Optimism, using Candide as a means for satirizing what was wrong with the world, and showing that, in reality, this is not the best of all possible worlds. The philosophy of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, which Voltaire called optimism, is one of the main themes of Candide. Voltaire does most of his satirizing through the character of Dr. Pangloss, an unconditional follower of Leibnitz s philosophy and Candide s mentor. Pangloss ramblings are not personal attacks on Leibnitz, but in some way represent the thoughts of a typical optimist. He is a very hopeful character in the story because he refuses to accept bad. When Candide encounters Pangloss after a long period of time, Pangloss explains how he was almost hanged, then dissected, then beaten. Candide asks the philosopher if he still believes that everything is for the best, and Pangloss replies that he still held his original views. Voltaire frequently exaggerates his point on optimism; there is nobody in reality who is positive about everything all the time, especially after so many horrible experiences. One could say that Pangloss is irrational and idiotic, and Voltaire tries to depict how inexplicable his beliefs are which do not measure up to reality. Another example of how Voltaire ridicules Pangloss optimistic philosophy is the mention of the Lisbon earthquake and fire. Even though the disastrous earthquake took over 30,000 lives, Pangloss still upheld his philosophical optimism by stating, quot; For all that is for the best...It is impossible that things should not be other than they are; for everything is right. Interestingly, influenza virus leads hypoactive mitochondrial respiration in epithelial cells but causes hyperactive mitochondrial respiration in immune cells, especially macrophages, so that stimulates the generation of ROS and antiviral signaling pathways. • 21. Arthur Dimmesdale And Double Life In Hawthorne By... Isn t it remarkable how Arthur Dimmesdale manages to somehow, for seven years, keep his private life separate from his public one? In regards to Arthur s behavior, Hawthorne states, No man, for a considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without getting bewildered as to which may be true. To restate Hawthorne s quote: no one can be true to him or herself, while lying to everyone because soon enough one will confuse the act with reality. Having a Dimmesdale s style of living results in living a double life, plenty of penance, and self damage affecting loved ones. First off, when someone walks around with two faces, he or she will begin to live with two distinct lives as well. For example, Dimmesdale is seen as the greatest saint in the Puritan community, but he is secretly holding onto an unrepented sin. His humanly desires get the best of him when he commits adultery with Hester Prynne and hence produces an elf child named Pearl. The aim of treatment is to preserve life, vision and functionality of the gland. There is still controversy regarding the optimal management of these patients, especially conservative versus surgical management and the timing of surgical intervention. What is known for sure is that the diagnosis of pituitary apoplexy remains a neuroendocrine emergency and requires decision making as to whether to manage the patient conservatively or surgically. Both Zelda and Fitzgerald started falling apart when they turned to drinking and partying and eventually, she was admitted to an insane asylum. In this example, Nick states, In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars. (Fitzgerald, 39). Since a simile is the comparison using the words like or as , the example present is comparing the man and the girls who enjoy Gatsby s party, much like moths enjoy the light. This is a quote describing the people because it means they didn t show up to meet with Gatsby, but, in fact, they are only present for the party. In the next example, Fitzgerald is developing the character, Jay Gatsby, by showing his wealth through the narrator, Nick Carraway. Again, Nick Carraway is describing what he sees which is Gatsby s station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. (Fitzgerald, 39). The example displayed above indicates how similar a station wagon is to a brisk yellow bug and how alike they behave. Reading reviews, examining the public reception, and uncovering depths of research would evidence this well. More than merely telling a story, Salinger creates a relatable life through the actions and attitudes of his ornery adolescent character Holden Caulfield. He attributes, One of the biggest reasons I left... was because I was surrounded by phonies. They were coming in the god damn window...Mr Haas... was the phoniest bastard you ve ever seen. (pg. 12) Holden s reference to the adjective phonies is the first of many references to people who he sees as fake, superficial and lacking authenticity. Naming the principal, an adult in a position of authority as a phony coupled with a derogatory insult such as bastard indicates his negative and critical view of those who he sees as fake, particularly adults. This view makes the novel resonate with so many teens today. Moreover, his scepticism of phonies is eptimized in his description of his brother D.B he tells the reader that now [D.B] is out in Hollywood... being a prostitute. If there s one thing I hate, it s the movies, (pg.1). Through the first person narration and the language choice of the noun prostitute it is clear that Holden views Hollywood as the center of superficiality a world where nothing is genuine or real. The strong language choice of the verb hate , illustrates Holden s negative views of this aspect of the adult world. This scepticism of a lack of authenticity in the world makes the novel relatable to a contemporary audience. A third reason why animals should not be kept in zoos is because they will not know how to survive in the wild once they are let free. I object to keeping animals in zoos. First of all, keeping animals in zoos adds to an animal s loneliness. Humans hate loneliness and animals hate it too. The first reason why animals should not be kept in zoos is because they will suffer from loneliness. For example, the animal will miss its family in which it was separated from. • 42. Mexican Descent In America The United States of America has long been known as an immigrant s country. It is a melting pot of all different races, ethnicities, and nationalities. However, the time elapsed between the foundation of America and now has led to the development of the American identity. American nationalism has changed the scope and parameters of who is truly American, and who is welcomed in America. The United States is no longer a country of immigrants, it is a country filled with citizens of diverse heritage, but they all identify as an American. This poses a problem for those who still wish to immigrate to America. It is still described as a place where there is a possibility of an American Dream, and where anyone can become anything. The 2016 American Community Survey (ACS) measured immigrants to make up 13.5 percent of the US population, or approximately 43.3 million people nationally (Zong Batalova 2017). Americans perceive the typical immigrant in America to be of Mexican descent, and there is truth to these assumptions. Of the 43.3 million immigrants, those of Mexican descent make up 27 percent of the total number of immigrants in America (Zong Batalova 2017). This makes them the highest number of foreign ... President Trump has spoken of immigrants, particularly from Mexico, in a highly negative light, characterizing them as criminals. He has proclaimed Mexican immigrants are drug dealers and rapists (Reilly 2016). Whether these claims carry truth or not, when the leader of the free world has publically described a certain subset of people as criminals, a negative connotation of that particular group is commonly created. It is important to understand how this negative connotation of Mexican immigrants affects this population in order to understand the consequences of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Gods In Geoffrey Philp s The Cattle Of The Sun God As the suitors, Odysseus and most of the people in the Greek world could tell you it is a lot better to have the gods on your side than as your enemy. Odysseus journey home in the Odyssey was a great example of how the gods can affect your life. One the reasons his journey took so long was because of the gods intervening. Although without the help of a few gods, he would not have gotten home at all. In the image, it shows a ship far away from home. It also shows waves that signify Poseidon not letting Odysseus go home. The image is very good at showing the hopelessness the ship in. Also, Geoffrey Philp, in his poem The Cattle of the Sun God shows a similar point of the power and what can happen if the gods are betrayed. In Philip s writing, it shows only how awful the gods can be. It is about Odysseus s crew making a dumb decision and the gods acting as their own system of Karma. In the poem, Philip uses the consequences of the mortals mistake to demonstrate the power of the gods. The mortals in Greek world have learned about how awful it is to have a god as your enemy. In the Odyssey the main character, Odysseus makes a brutal mistake that got a god to be his enemy. In book 9 after, Odysseus blinds Poseidon s son Polyphemus and tricks him to think his name is nobody. But after he escapes, he shows hubris and starts to taunt, he mockingly gloats, Cyclops if any man on earth ask you who blinded you, shamed you so say Odysseus raider of cities, he gouged your eye, ... • 44. Cathedral In Chartres Research Paper When we enter a space such as a church or chapel, the architecture and decor add to our experience. We are often led to reflect and even question our morals, values, and belief system. Sometimes a space can even take us away from our hectic lives and place us in a safe haven or make us feel as if we are somewhere else, such as Heaven. The theological vision varies between each cathedral or church, depending on the location, creator, and time period. Each space provides us with a different journey. Cathedral in Chartres Even before entering this Holy space, one must walk under heavily decorated arches. There are far too many archivolts, figures around the arches, to describe the symbolism and significance of all of them, but they can be grouped. Some of them portray the seven liberal arts: arithmetic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The north portal illustrates the Old Testament and the Virgin Mary, the south portal illustrates the New Testament, and the west portal, also known as the Royal Portal illustrate Christ and Mary. In northern Europe, the north façade of the church was focused on themes of the Old Testament and the Virgin Mary. On the north transcept of Chartres, illustrations are focused on the precursors and preparations for Christ leading up to the moment of His incarnation. Another distinctive feature of Chartres is its three part elevation with the external buttresses allowing for larger glass windows than previous designs. Unlike most cathedrals built during the same period, the window panes were filled with equally dense stained glass, creating a dark, but rich panel of illuminated narration. The high clerestory windows along the nave, the aisle and ambulatory windows and the rose windows, and transepts in the north and south portals are the allow for natural light to illuminate the cathedral.
