Compare And Contrast Sa Adi With Whitman
Ahmadsoltani (2009) compares Sa adi with Whitman. The author believes that purpose of poetry for
the two poets was not the same, but they both were successful in dealing with social subjects.
Sympathy, justice, prosperity and life are among the common subjects in the two poets.
Payande (2009) compares Whitman s When I Heared the Learn d Astronomer with Sepehri s Sorah of
Watching . The poets believe that reason is unable to find out the essence of being. Payande pays
attention to the similarities rather than the influences, and believes trying to trace influences is useless.
The ideas of Sepehri and Whitman are so similar that Stovall s comment on the American poet quoted
in the article best fits Sepehri.

Although Neo Pragmatist scholars have long considered Walt Whitman an intellectual and literary
forebear to William James and the American Pragmatic tradition, James believed Whitman to be a far
more problematic thinker than has been acknowledged (526). Whitman is present in much of James s
writings, and The Varieties of Religious Experience (1902) in particular. That Whitman is embodiment
of a particular kind of metaphysical excess, at once unworldly and effeminate (526). Examining the
writings of the leading gay Whitmanites of his era, James traced Whitman s influence both implicitly
and explicitly. A feminine and unnatural Whitman was a chief foil to the father of Pragmatism. James
defined his own manly beliefs and methodologies, particularly with respect to religious experience
(525) in contrast to that

Evaluation Of The Braden Scale Screening Tool Essay
Educational Needs Patient and Family It is important that patient and family are on the same page
with staff are fully aware of the risks of HAPUs and what they can watch for and do to prevent them
from acquiring them. The Braden Scale is simple enough that it can be used as is, or modified to help
the patient and family best understand what signs and symptoms to be aware of, as well as the risk
factors that may be modifiable or addressed early, in order to minimize them as quickly as possible.
Staff. The acute care staff will require in service training and evaluation before they implement the
Braden Scale screening tool. It is important that the staff is able to properly identify and understand all
of the criteria covered by the Braden Scale. By giving demonstrations and then allowing the staff to
teach back and then demonstrate the use of the Braden Scale screening tool, they will be able to have a
greater success rate in properly assessing patients who have a higher risk of acquiring HAPUs and will
be able to intervene in a timely manner before any irreversible damage is done.
Continuous Quality Improvement The issue of quality improvement should be addressed with a multi
faceted approach. Once implemented, continuous oversight and monitoring must be conducted by an
experienced staff member/case manager who can verify data in the EHR, as well as conduct a daily
Braden Score assessment and confer with the staff nurse and physician, as needed. While

Minority Research Paper
Description of the Market
Market specifics need to be carefully analyzed and marketers should become familiar with the data for
each. In order to market a brand or specific goods/services, marketers should be sensitive to each
group and shouldn t be afraid to tap into each market. Below is information on the three largest
minority groups in the United States and what each one prefers.
African Americans
The total numbers in the US is 42 million ( United States Census Bureau ).
African Americans make up 13.6% of the total US population ( United States Census Bureau ).
The rate of growth for this minority group from 2000 to 2010 was 15.4% ( United States Census
Bureau ).
The average household size is 2.7 ( United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The median age for Hispanic Americans is 27 ( United States Census Bureau )..
The percentage of Hispanic Americans 25 and older that hold a bachelors degree or higher is 13% (
United States Census Bureau ). That is the lowest amongst the three groups.
The median income per year was $37,759 ( United States Census Bureau ).
Hispanic Americans are concentrated in the South and the West geographically. About 50% of the
population lives in California, Texas, and Florida. California has the highest than any other state,
which is 14 million ( infoplease ).
Examples of brands that have a higher than average purchase rate among Hispanic Americans are
Corona, Sunsilk, OPI, Ouidad, and Goya (Genuario).
Specific products that have above average usage for this group are small appliances, footwear,
furniture, and food.
The best media to use in order to target this group is through Spanish television networks and printed
media.
BUSINESS POTENTIAL
African American:
The African American community is a very important market because of their great spending trends
and buying power. Their buying power is estimated to reach $1.1 trillion in a few years ( Multi ethnic
Demographics ). This ethnic group consists of 43 million individuals and marketers should be worried
if they haven t tapped into this ever growing market ( United States Census Bureau ).

b) More; fewer. c) Fewer; more. d) More; more. ??MC3. Consider an individual whose only
endowment is time and who derives utility from leisure and consumption. For the individual,
consumption and leisure are both normal goods. If the income effect dominates the substitution effect,
then an increase in the wage rate will cause the individual s supply of labour to: a) Increase. b)
Decrease. c) Remain unchanged. d) None of the above (as it will depend on the circumstances).
Question 1. Consider two individuals who derive utility from leisure and food (and no other goods).
Both individuals have 100 hours of time to divide between leisure and work (labour), and no other
form of income. Further, both individuals receive the same money wage (and face the same money
price for food). Using income and substitution effects, explain why we might see one individual
respond to an increase in the wage rate by increasing their supply of labour, while the other individual
might decrease their labour supply. Question 2. Consider an individual who derives utility from leisure
and food (and no other goods). Assume both goods always have positive marginal utilities. The
individual has an endowment of time (100 hours), plus an endowment of food. What happens to the
individual s supply of labour as their endowment

Essay about President Abraham Lincoln
Although Abraham Lincoln was President over a century and a half ago (1861 1865), he is still
considered to be one of our greatest Presidents, and his legacy remains important for the nation today.
By the late 1800s, sectional tensions in America had led to a split between the Northern and Southern
states. During the Antebellum period, the North became more industrialized as the South increased its
agricultural production. The two sections developed differing economies and ideas and by April 14,
1861, at Fort Sumter, the tensions came to a head as the American Civil War began. Skillfully guiding
the nation through this time of hardship and considered one of the greatest presidents in American
history, Abraham Lincoln left a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His unyielding position on the preservation of the Union can be seen today as the nation is now known
as the United States of America and includes the Southern regions that attempted to secede in the
1860s.
Preserving the Union, however, was only one of the accomplishments of Lincoln that still has an
impact today. In the 1820s, with the rise of expansion and agriculture in the South, slavery increased
in America. During the Antebellum period, slavery continued to be a controversial issue dividing the
North and the South and driving the diverging developments of the nation.
With additional expansion in the 1840s, the question of expansion of slavery again raised sectional
tensions and Northern radicals called for abolition while Southern radicals, or fireeaters, called for
secession from the Union. Lincoln s original position on allowing slavery changed over the course of
his presidency, and by the 1860s, Lincoln aligned himself with the abolitionists, calling for the
immediate abolition of slavery. After the Battle of Antietam, on
September 22, 1862, Lincoln announced his decision to abolish slavery in the states that claimed
secession, and on January 1, 1863, Lincoln formally signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
With this law, all slaves in the Confederacy were freed, and later those in the Border States and
Union states were also freed with the

Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot
In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of
boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S. Eliot
was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well educated,
Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Land was assembled out of dramatic
vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily lives of people
where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life. Three reasons why I
relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city
is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The smell of steaks is everywhere.
When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and were commonly eaten by members of
the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem because my family cooks steaks and my town
calms down in the way that the city being described does. The poem then goes on to describe how a
gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant
lots. The streets are gross and unattractive and the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland
have grimy looking streets and houses like this city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened
streets. I believe that part of the poem is telling us that life is empty at night and everything

Informative Essay On Softball
When most people think of softball they don t take it as seriously as someone might for baseball, but
softball is just as tough and competitive. The pitchers for both sports have an even tougher time. Every
position is important, but if your pitcher s arm is sore after every game, then it s going to impact your
team. Baseball players are always worried about when their arm will start hurting, and the pitch count
put in place helps so that they don t throw out their arm. Softball is different, in that there is no pitch
count rule. Just because softball players don t put the same stress on their arms doesn t mean the arm
motion they make is a natural movement, because of this, the league should put into place a certain
amount of pitches they can throw. Baseball pitchers throw overhand in a sort of whipping motion that
increases the velocity and how fast they can throw it. With this sort of movement, it puts a lot of stress
on the elbow area causing many young players to get Tommy John s surgery where they replace the

The process of bubble net feeding is like a game of football, where members specialize in an specific
factor of the bubble feeding. Bubble feeding techniques are interesting because the techniques used
depend on who the lead of the blowing bubbles which allow the group to capture the school of fishes (
Kelsey 2008: 57 58). The leaders of the bubble feeding groups can be either male or female. Often
times, humpback whales have been observed pairing up with specific individuals during the summer
bubble net feeding. The humpback whales that stay with the same group seem to develop more
efficient and successful techniques (Kelsey 2008:59). Humpbacks whales ability to form reciprocal
bonds outside of kinship is demonstrated through their their formation of partner or group bubble net
feeding for the entire summer, even through different decades, with non related humpback whales
(Kelsey 2008: 59). Yet, the relationships between humpback whales are not always harmonious, when
two different bubble feeding groups collaborate together there are often tensions and competitions has
the individual humpback whales renegotiate their role within their group( Kelsey 2008: 60).
Furthermore, when two groups are feeding in the same area, if on humpbacks from one group think
that the other group is more successful in catching they may easily drop their alliance with their group
in order to join what they think of being more successful bubble net feeding (Kelsey 2008:60). One of
the reasons for the group patterns for bubble net feeding over the summer and not the winter might be
that during the summer since there are predictable and abundant schools of fish (Kelsey

The Boxers throughout the length of the Rebellion aimed to influence and enforce their views upon
the Chinese people and the ruling Qing dynasty. This group, comprised primarily of adolescents from

An Hour Woman
The story of an hour, was a bit confusing the first time I read it. The second time that I read the
passage it became clearer to me. It is as one of those stories that mess with your mind throughout the
writing and then at the end drop a huge bomb on the readers, that leaves you more confused than when
you first began reading.
At the beginning of the story I thought that she would allow the death of her husband take a huge toll
on her emotions and her life. On page 1 paragraph 3 line 2, it states She wept at once, with sudden,
wild abandonment, in her sister s arms. She instantly felt grief, as if a dark cloud blocked her
sunshine. This is not what struck me about her opinion on the women population during the 19th
century it was the line before that where it is written that she did not hear the story the way other
women would. This suggested that the woman in the 19th century didn t have enough strength in them
to accept the absence of their husband, and continue living their lives. Women surrounded their lives
around these men that they married.
In page 2 paragraph 2 line 5, it says, She said it over and over under her breath: free, free, free! . It

differences due to Beowulf s third person point of view compared to Grendel s first person point of

Historical Development Of Policing In America Essay
Describe the historical development of policing in America?
In the early days most police officers were once soldiers. There were also groups of citizens that
would join forces to protect themselves.
Our police system derives from the system our ancestors used in England. From this system we derive
concepts of limited police authority, local control, fragmented justice system that began in Anglo
Saxon England continued until 19th century. In this system, community was divided into groups of 10
men who were responsible for ensuring that conduct of group was appropriate; if any laws were
broken, these men were to ensure that offender appeared in court 10 of these groups were organized

Pat Garrett were some of early 19th century figures who took it upon themselves to police frontier; in

As larger American cities developed, so did necessity for more formalized police organizations. By

Theme Of Class Struggle In A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities is a novel by Dickens written in 1859. It is one of the most famous productions
of world literature. Dickens first purpose was to publish this work through a newspaper. In fact, he
ended up publishing his novel in his All the Year Round literary magazine for 31 weeks. The novel is
set place in London and Paris and is shaped around one of the most restless periods of history, the
French Revolution. Charles Dickens tries to show the insight of the French Revolution in which the
bourgeoisie and aristocrat class carried out a bloody strife on the lower classes. Dickens displays this
in a very realistic and frustrated fiction. The novel basically revolves around the lives of its characters
before and after French Revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Book 1, Chapter 7) This shows that no matter what the case is, if you are lower in class you lose.
Dickens portrayed class struggle as one of the main causes of the Revolution. If we compare the
pictures Dickens painted to the information in historical sources we will see that he is accurate. There
was political turmoil among the upper classes, huge population growth among the peasants, and
frustrated bourgeois class. (Revolution and Masters)
Dickens continues to illustrate corrupted power. Monseigneur s cruel philosophy illustrates the
mindset that has crept into the most privileged class and demonstrates how power can corrupt. The
contrast between his philosophy and his nephew s beliefs further underscores the suffering of the
masses. (Book 2, Chapter

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a business management software that allows an organisation to

The Benefits Of Operant Conditioning
The purpose of this report is to go through the psychological, aspects of the group; to see how they

known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is a jihadist militant group that follows a
fundamentalist doctrine of Islam. (Shirlow, Peter, 2013, para. 3). ISIS uses Operant conditioning to
keep their members and possible members thinking that life under ISIS is better than their current

Sometimes the prizes are bigger than the other, this can be compared to ISIS s system. The worse the
crime you commit, the better the reward is. ISIS s rewards go much further than just a physical object
or some money, it pushes it further into rewards for an afterlife or in the afterlife. ISIS is so isolated
from the rest of the world, that they ve created their own currency in which it s citizens use for
everything. It s also very profitable for the people who commit the terror acts. The rewards are given
for those who, killing an unbelieving soldier or capturing an unbelieving soldier, as well as reporting
anything that goes against their religious law. (MacIntyre, Sara, 2016). Since the people in the areas
controlled by ISIS are very religious and isolated from the rest of the world s views, the rewards are
their path to rich and fame within its cities. This is a psychological motivator for them and helps them
cope with what they are doing, and continue it to please their god and prepare for a glorious afterlife.
(Blair, Leonardo, 2014). The chances of the rewards being given out to those who follow through are
slim, this encourages them to commit the killings more often to have a higher chance at getting the
rewards. Although, videotaping the killings or capturings drastically improves the chances of the
rewards being given out, this is another contributing factor to the

Walkerton Water System Case Study
The Walkerton water system was supplied by three groundwater wells: wells 5, 6, and 7.
Contamination into the drinking water supply was through Well 5. Well 5 was a shallow well, and all
of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn from an area
of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the surrounding bedrock,
made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock (O Connor, 2002, pp.166).
The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two
standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated that
in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. There is a greater risk of
bacterial contamination in dead ends, because water does not adequately circulate in them and may
become stagnant (O Connor, 2002, pp.57). The water system had a reserve capacity of 20 hours. ...

Between Wishes and Beliefs in Wild Grapes
In Wild Grapes, Robert Frost demonstrates the complex thoughts and struggles of a woman who lives
her life, wishing that she had gained a knowledge that would have made her life different. At the same
time, she hopes to preserve the exhilarating way she lives her life. Through the use of character
portrayal, metaphor, symbolism, and diction, Robert Frost suggests to the reader that although people
know that they should prepare themselves to walk through life, they still listen to their hearts, which
causes them to be unprepared for what lies ahead of them. The poem starts with the woman telling a

came back to save her, the little girl is saved by her brother from the tree where she is suspended.
Frost captures the idea that she is no longer an adventurer, and that leads the reader to notice that she
is facing reality.
Then Frost develops their characters making clear contrasts: the one who always knows about things
and makes a decision following the knowledge and the one who is always led by the other, follows his
knowledge, and gets confused in the process. Frost describes that the glade where the grape tree stands
is the place that her brother already knew, and he leads her to the place. This introduces to the reader
that he knows about the thing before he does it while she just follows what he does. Next, Frost
describes, My brother did the climbing; and at first for in sweet feru and hardhack; which gave him
some time to himself to eat. This

The Weather Project Essay
The Weather Project by Olafur Eliasson By: Kayla Wilson Introduction: Olafur Eliasson, an
extraordinary artist of the 19th and 20th century, was born on February 5, 1967 in Copenhagen,
Denmark. All throughout Eliasson s childhood he was surrounded by beautiful, natural surroundings
that caused him to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for environment itself and natural
lights that create it. (1) From 1989 to 1995, Eliasson attended the Royal Academy of Arts in
Copenhagen. Eliasson began studying traditional art, but ultimately grew famous for his installations.
Around 1950, Eliasson began to participate in exhibitions world round: from museums such as the
Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, to the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Los
Angeles, to the London s Tate Modern. (**) Furthermore, Eliasson has several different solo
exhibitions; like his exhibition in ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany. Another one of his very noteworthy
achievements was his participation in the 2003 Venice Biennale, representing Denmark. Eliasson is
currently residing in Germany and furthering his career in art. (1) Eliasson ultimately grew famous for
his lively installations, The Weather Project being one of his most famous installations. The Weather

In order to develop the illusion of being surrounded by an authentic sun, Eliasson used humidifiers,
monochromatic lamps, and a giant aluminum frames lined with mirror foil covered the entire ceiling.
The humidifiers were used to develop a fine mist resembling the air on a foggy day, the
monochromatic lamps were used to radiate immense yellow tinted light, and the mirrors on the ceiling
were used to create shadows of the visitors making them out to be minuscule black dots facing a mass
of man made sunlight.

Inhumanity In The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a story that happens in a small village with roughly 300 citizens.
She was a native of San Fransico, who wrote many conventional novels. Her purpose in writing the
story is to graphically demonstrate, pointless violence, and general inhumanity in people lives
(Kennedy, Gioia, and Revoyr (2013). The story happens during the summer, while the children are out
of school portraying formally a longtime ritual grounded in tradition. Consequently, individuals who
wins the lottery will be stoned to death in a selected at random. It was no rational cause or justification
for singling out one person in the village to murder each year. Similarly, the lottery reminds me of the
stoning I have read in the Bible concerning

The Presentation Of Self As A Work Developed By...
The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life is a work developed by noted sociologist Erving Goffman.
In it, Goffman details the sociological perspective of our social interactions. He uses the metaphor of
theatre to better understand the complexities surrounding interactions; it is from this seminal text that
we establish words from the dramaturgical framework such as performance, backstage, front stage,
and costume as illustrations of interactionism. He begins the book by addressing the idea of
performance. For Goffman, performance refers to all the activity of any individual which occurs
during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has
some influence on the observers. (Goffman, 1959) In other words, performance is an analogy in
reference to how a person acts, in both the front stage and backstage, for their audience. Because in
every social interaction we are putting on a performance, Goffman believes that we each have a role as
well. As with a theatrical production, the front stage and the back stage are critical in understanding
how the interaction between individual and audience is carried out. The front stage or region is where
the superior more desirable impressions of the self are brought forth; in the background, actors display
a private and more nuanced version of the self as they consider this place separate from the role they
play in society. There is also the idea of offstage, which Goffman argues is the place

Heroin And Other Opiate Abuse
The purpose of this paper is to assess the issues that arise from heroin and other opiate abuse, how the
US government is combating it, and what effects these policies have in Afghanistan, the world s
supplier of opium.
Heroin was invented in the 1895. ( Opium Throughout History ) It was a new concoction based on
morphine, similar to the then popular laudanum, and was initially meant to be used as a cheaper
medical substitute at the time. Heroin was never successfully brought into the medical fold, but was
popular as a recreational drug almost immediately. Opiates, in one form or another, have been used for
medical pain relief and recreationally since as early as 3400 BC. ( Opium throughout History )
Throughout the history of opium, control, regulation, trade, and addiction have been struggles for
every society and civilization, starting with the Egyptians, hitting the Romans, the Chinese, and the
Portuguese on the way, and continues to be a struggle in every modern society in the world. ( World
Drug Report 2010 )
Throughout history the popularity of heroin has waxed and waned. Sometimes heroin was practically
a non issue, other times, heroin has been one of the biggest struggles a society has faced. America
today struggles with heroin like no other time in its history, in part because of the effects of addiction
at home, and in part because of the significant profits it allows its handlers both at home and overseas.

Merusault Compare Contrast Essay
Each individual has distinguishing characteristics that can either separate them from the majority or
can place them in the majority. What may seem different may actually be very similar to another. As a
human in society, one must adapt to social norms or be looked at as an outcast because within the
society we live in there is a certain criteria that has already been created and has been passed from
generations to generation where if one doesn t adhere to this standard they are then portrayed as
indifferent. Although an individual may try to adapt to social norms, they will always be targeted for
normality not being natural to them because being normal is supposed to be in an individual from their
surroundings. Society forgets that each individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meursault expresses his self in his mind whereas, Kasper analyzes his surroundings and is vocal with
his opinions. Merusault is very inquisitive but he chooses to remain unnoticed by not voicing out his
opinions. For example: When Raymond questions him on how he should punish his ex girlfriend,
Merusault just agrees with Raymond s understanding because he doesn t know how to truly express
his emotions when asked. Merusault chooses not to verbally vocalize his opinion but mentally process
it. Merusault just sits backs and follows Raymond s opinions and feelings in the moment because
when an individual is vocal in society, their opinions must conform to society ideologies. If one doesn
t comply with such beliefs they will be viewed as different. The only place you can see Meursault
analyzing his surroundings is in his mind because that is his safe heaven. Society keeps one confined
from being vocal about how they should feel because the fear of being judged or looked at differently
has already been instilled in you. The control of when to speak and when not to speak is a form a fear
based on how others will think of them if they don t say the right thing. In relation, Kasper is not
afraid of sharing his point of view with others. For example: In the case of the wealthy man who
accepted Kasper into his home, he taught Kasper common knowledge but when the doctor gave his
understanding of how if an apple was to fall from a tree the apple would know when to stop. Kasper
listened but then vocalized his opinion stating that the apple is uncontrollable until man stops the
apple from rolling himself. Kasper is a character who thinks outside of the norm. Bing an extrovert he

Oppressors In America Research Paper
The guilt of nurturing lust for power made Hagar run away from Sara. In this context, I observe, that
the powerless concubine became all powerful she ran away twice from Sara. Her reasons for doing so
might be many, most notable being that Hagar was the biological mother of Ishmael, and further the
tables turned when Sara asked Abraham to send Hagar away there is a shift in the power roles. Hagar s
acts of running away from Sara twice helps me perceive Hagar taking over the role of an oppressor
from her former role of one being oppressed. To explicate this, as a maid, Hagar was oppressed into
forcible sexual relationship with Abram, the same oppressed concubine can be perceived as the
oppressor who torments Sara because she is the birthing mother of Abraham s son and hence looks
down upon Sara. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of being the oppressors to the black community? As I observe, the unasked question is: When did,
Christianity preach and teach hatred against anyone, calling judgement upon them by enslaving and

Essay on Animal Rights
Animal Rights
The 20th century has had more medical breakthroughs than any other hundred years in history. But
there is a price. No significant discovery in this time has occurred without the use of animals in
biological research experiments. Heart surgery, polio, osteoporosis, diabetes, AIDS, and cancer have
all had significant breakthroughs thanks to these experiments(McCarty 15).
The use of animals in today s world is highly controversial. Our society eats animals and their
products, wears them, uses them for entertainment, and kills some species, such as rats and mice for
being a nuisance. In a society which uses animals in all these different ways, it is ethical to use
animals in medical research. Many medical advances rely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of animal studies in amongst the other research techniques. When animals are used in research there
are strict regulations to ensure a minimum of pain and suffering for the subjects(UNMC). Ultimately
our overall understanding of diseases rests heavily upon studies of living systems, including animals.
In the fight to save human lives, animals are vital.
The Hot Zone reveals that animal research inadvertently led to an outbreak of Ebola near Washington
DC. But this is a unique case where research has harmed humankind. The U.S. has recognized the
importance of animal research and were it not for the Animals (Scientific) Research Act of 1986 most
scientists would have been charged with cruelty to animals by now. Because of these laws new drugs
are tested on approximately 1,000 animals before they can be released on the market(McCarty 81).
This law would not exist if government officials thought these experiments would harm their citizens.
In fact due to animal research the human life span has been increased by an average of 28
years(McCarty 15).
Though animal research has benefited millions of people world wide it has its detractors. Hollywood
celebrities are using their free time to pose naked for billboards. To protest the use of animals in their

Chronicle of a Death Untold by Gabriel García Márquez
TQ: To what extent do the Machismo and Marianismo ideals act as a catalyst to the plot of Chronicle
of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez?
Honor over Love Honor can be earned and built throughout years of work and commitment but lost in
just one single action. When looking at many Latin American cultures it is the women s duty to
preserve the honor, and the male s job to protect it if there is ever a threat. The social ideologies of
machismo and marianismo act as a source of pressure to follow through the different events and
conflicts that took place in the novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The
standards held to men and women, along with multiple examples of the ideologies present in the book
assist in the revelation of how much the social norm and peer pressure effect a person s decisions. The
Columbian town Marquez transports the reader to appears no different than the rest of Latin American

marianismo the standard women are held against to be pure and preserve their family, and their own,

The Future Of Australia s Renewable Energy Industry...
The path to renewables in Australia in recent times has been met with a somewhat contentious debate.
In a time where No challenge poses a greater threat to our future than a changing climate. (Barack
Obama, August 3, 2015) the plight of Renewables is of more importance than ever in our history as a
pillar on to which our highly carbon emitting society must rest, if we ever seek to reduce the impact
on our climate both government and individuals must seek out and adhere to serious carbon abatement
strategies. The idea of previous successful government involvement in the renewable energy industry
through regulation and initiatives may elude the everyday modern Australian, marred with
controversial schemes, which in hind sight were rolled out to fast without sufficient regulations has
seen relatively recent schemes reduced or even thrown out. However, it is best to remind ourselves

In 1949, Sidney Farber, M.D., a pathologist and a clinician formed a theory that folic acid is required
for the growth of cancer cells and methotrexate being a folate antagonist can be used to counter it.
Since then it has been used in dermatology, gynaecology, rheumatology and cancers.
Methotrexate formerly known as amethopterin is an antimetaboliteand dermatologically it is FDA

Priming Is An Antecedent Intervention Applied For Prepare...
Priming is an antecedent intervention applied to prepare students for learning. Priming intervention is
a process that supports learners to review instructional materials, routines, or activities before they
occur (Carnahan Williamson, 2010). The information processing style of students with ASD is
different compared to those of typically developing students. Their weak central coherence hinders
them to actively participate and comprehend abstract information, verbal instructions, modeling, and
social reinforcement (Carnahan Williamson, 2010). Therefore, priming helps to reduce anxiety, the
anticipation of future events, and problem behaviors. Students with ASD benefit from priming
intervention because it allows them to review future assignments and schedules. Priming can take
place in any setting; home or classroom, yet it is most effective if it s built in the student s routine.
This intervention also serves beneficial for reading and communication skills for it makes learning
more predictable. Each student s ability and their unique daily schedule is assessed before priming
instructions are formed. The article, Priming as a Method of Coordinating Educational Services for
Students With Autism concludes that problem behavior decreased and academic progress increased
when priming preceded curricular activities (Koegel, Koegel, Frea Green Hopkins, 2003). It further
states, students with ASD display lack of motivation for completing academic tasks, yet when the

Women In The Early Renaissance
Were Women Given the Chance to Represent Themselves in the Early Renaissance?
Kaylynn Sims
The Renaissance was a large resurgence and what one could consider reboot of culture. During the
Renaissance, the amount of art and culture flourished. At the center of it all, was Florence. To some,
Florence was the birthplace for the Renaissance. Flourishing markets, painters, architects, poets, and
especially humanists, began their origins in the city and around it. As with most places and time
periods in history, the Renaissance was full of economic discrepancies that caused the creation of class
and the difference in political power. Or in other words: Those with the most money had the most

Other representations of art, like sculpture and painting were quite popular as well. Rarely were
women the artists of such works, but male artists would often paint the women that they were
surrounded by and usually for the occasion of their weddings in the noble class (Kaborycha, 94 and
95). Depictions of the non elite and servant women were rare, but can be found in Renaissance art. For
example, a non elite, but non servant woman is depicted in a Piero della Francesca painting, titled
Madonna del Parto. She is shown as extremely pregnant, and ready to give birth to her child, because
of the facial expression that is depicted on her face. The woman looks very uncomfortable and tired.
This painting is representative of the role that women primarily took in the Renaissance. Women were
the heir producers. More often than not, it was hoped that the child women were having was a boy, so
that it could pass on the family name (Discussion, February 10). And if the women were to give birth
to a girl, families continued to have children until there was at least one boy. This left some women
pregnant for the majority of their lives. Francesca s painting supports the ideal that Alberti proposed in
Family and Fortune. Most women had children and tended to those children as well as their domestic

Horror Narrative Essay
The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most
connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its
audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody
deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film and
theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is trying to
convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on psychology,
theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to examine the notions
of dread, uncertainly, mysterious and the abject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal

Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and
revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. In

Analysis Of The Poem Where The Sidewalk Ends
Shel Silverstein is a notable writer, made famous for his poems that were geared towards children.
One of his most famous poems, Where the Sidewalk Ends shares the title with what may be his most
well known book. This poem is a very meticulously worded work, and although it may be published in
a children s book, it can be understood and very meaningful to older generations. This piece has a
depth and wisdom that may be well beyond the comprehension of young minds, and it can be
interpreted and analyzed in many ways and can reveal a variety of themes. When first reading this
short poem, the initial theme that stands out to me, personally is the idea of the change that occurs
during aging. It seems that the stark contrast between the imagery of the first stanza, versus the second
stanza reveals the dramatic difference between childhood and adulthood. Childhood can be thought of
as more gentle, airy, and even innocent. The third line of the first stanza says the grass grows soft and
white... (Silverstein, n.d.). This gives that notion of gentleness, and innocence associated with
childhood. Many think of the color white and associate it with innocence, maybe because of their
religious practices. Religious imagery sometimes depicts heavenly beings in white robes, possibly
surrounded by white wisps of clouds or white rays of light. The word soft is also associated with
gentleness. Many would imagine the soft grass, and think back to a time in their childhood on a

Her biggest disappointment becomes the fact that she cannot no longer experience living. Even though
Susie has the ability to want, wish, and desire things she understands that it doesn t mean she s alive.

Susie s heaven gives an earthly impression, and she can even engage in activities as she did on earth
like playing with dogs, living in a house, and the consumption of food. Susie s heaven gives her
another chance to experience the physical attributes as if she was alive on earth. The changing of her
body and the physical environment seem to point that physicality seems the defining characteristic of
life. (Sebold 56). This is the nature of human experience and condition. The most significant
experience of being human comes from life and death which creates these two questions. The Lovely
Bones focuses on more of the impact and how Susie s friends and family were taking her death rather
than the murder itself. Susie watched as a person closest to her went through an emotion that usually

INTRO/THESIS
The Ramayana is an excellent example of Joseph Campbell s monomyth, who expresses that it marks
the physical, mental, and spiritual changes that young women and men undergo as they grow and
develop to fill a variety of roles in society (Whomsley 186) based on cultural dogmas. During this
journey of maturation, an in individual must act in accordance with dharma to attain enlightenment.
Dharma is the glue, which upholds the universe and humanity. Every individual has a sense of duty
and destiny established from his or her responsibility to achieve his or her role in society. Dharma
encompasses all actions, thoughts, and speech in keeping with living a virtuous life (India: The
Ramayana 242). Acting contrary to your predestined role in society impairs not only the individual s
ability to obtain dharma but that of humanities as well.
The hero of the epic in this monomyth is Rama, who understands the sacrifices he must make in order
to succeed in being a faithful and dutiful son, loving husband, and caring brother, while also being a
stern leader and powerful warrior. Rama s ability to comprehend his conscious devotion to the beliefs
of his culture based on the idea of dharma, results in his own enlightenment, symbolizing the ideas
and values of his culture. The monomyth consist of three major phases: the departure, initiation and
return. In addition, it includes numerous steps however, I will be examining

Basically speaking, the skills involved in managerial jobs include technical subject skills, general
management an organisation skills, analytical subject skills, social and cultural skills, management of
people, communication and leadership skills, and political skills (Milan Kubr,1989). We can also look
at the McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y (McGregor 1957) where the theory X suggest that people
have an inherent dislike for work and will avoid it whenever possible. It also states that people prefer
to be directed, do not want responsibility, and have little or no ambition and also seek security above
all else. These, specially the theory X suggest how the attitude and assumption can influence

It was a wonderful day, a day to rejoice for Mako had killed Tupa! The story of Mako defeating the
ferocious Ghost of the lagoon, Tupa, had spread all over the island. The village was very happy that

for hours. The village was no longer in danger from the ghost of the lagoon. They could fish, and go
out into the water without being harmed. ★★★ Mako!!! Mother yelled, You need to go get more fruit!

Claude Mckay, a Dialectical Analysis Essay
Claude McKay amp; Dialectical Analysis
In Claude McKay s, Old England and Quashie to Buccra McKay uses dialect as a way to give poems
multiple meanings. What may be seen as a simplistic or naïve poem about Jamaican life may actually
be full of double meanings that only a select audience would be able to identify. In his poem s, McKay
ultimately gives Negros who work under white colonists the underlying message of black resistance
by revolution.
Perhaps what makes this interpretation so convincing is the background of the author. McKay was
born Sunny Ville Jamaica as the youngest of 11 sons. While in Jamaica, McKay wrote Songs of
Jamaica , which is where Quashie to Buccra is derived from. In this time, he also became a self ...

In actuality, the poem can be seen by Negros as a way to criticize the white plantation owner and in
fact plant the seeds of rebellion.
Indeed, the title of the work itself leads credence to it being veiled in double meaning. While a white,
European in the high rungs of the social ladder may read the poem as a simple address of worker to
plantation owner. However, a Negro experiencing the strife of Quashie, the black peasant worker who
produces sweet potatoes in the poem, may relate to the unfairness of they experience from the Buccra,
which is the white man being addressed in the poem. Indeed, McKay points out in the poem, You taste
the potato, and you say it s sweet, but you don t know how hard we work for it (McKay 2). Buccra
even attempts to haggle for a lower price, further showing he doesn t understand the work that goes
into farming the sweet potatoes, You want a basketful fe quattiewut (McKay 3). Not only does this
demonstrate the Buccra s insensitivity to the work that goes into the harvest, but it shows he s greedy
and milking the natives for every last sixpence.
A white reader may look at the reading as Quashie simply complaining about his hard work, The sun
is hot like when fire catches a town (McKay 9). In reality, Quashie would do this work even if he

  • 3. Evaluation Of The Braden Scale Screening Tool Essay Educational Needs Patient and Family It is important that patient and family are on the same page with staff are fully aware of the risks of HAPUs and what they can watch for and do to prevent them from acquiring them. The Braden Scale is simple enough that it can be used as is, or modified to help the patient and family best understand what signs and symptoms to be aware of, as well as the risk factors that may be modifiable or addressed early, in order to minimize them as quickly as possible. Staff. The acute care staff will require in service training and evaluation before they implement the Braden Scale screening tool. It is important that the staff is able to properly identify and understand all of the criteria covered by the Braden Scale. By giving demonstrations and then allowing the staff to teach back and then demonstrate the use of the Braden Scale screening tool, they will be able to have a greater success rate in properly assessing patients who have a higher risk of acquiring HAPUs and will be able to intervene in a timely manner before any irreversible damage is done. Continuous Quality Improvement The issue of quality improvement should be addressed with a multi faceted approach. Once implemented, continuous oversight and monitoring must be conducted by an experienced staff member/case manager who can verify data in the EHR, as well as conduct a daily Braden Score assessment and confer with the staff nurse and physician, as needed. • 8. Essay about President Abraham Lincoln Although Abraham Lincoln was President over a century and a half ago (1861 1865), he is still considered to be one of our greatest Presidents, and his legacy remains important for the nation today. By the late 1800s, sectional tensions in America had led to a split between the Northern and Southern states. During the Antebellum period, the North became more industrialized as the South increased its agricultural production. The two sections developed differing economies and ideas and by April 14, 1861, at Fort Sumter, the tensions came to a head as the American Civil War began. His unyielding position on the preservation of the Union can be seen today as the nation is now known as the United States of America and includes the Southern regions that attempted to secede in the 1860s. Preserving the Union, however, was only one of the accomplishments of Lincoln that still has an impact today. In the 1820s, with the rise of expansion and agriculture in the South, slavery increased in America. During the Antebellum period, slavery continued to be a controversial issue dividing the North and the South and driving the diverging developments of the nation. With additional expansion in the 1840s, the question of expansion of slavery again raised sectional tensions and Northern radicals called for abolition while Southern radicals, or fireeaters, called for secession from the Union. Lincoln s original position on allowing slavery changed over the course of his presidency, and by the 1860s, Lincoln aligned himself with the abolitionists, calling for the immediate abolition of slavery. After the Battle of Antietam, on September 22, 1862, Lincoln announced his decision to abolish slavery in the states that claimed secession, and on January 1, 1863, Lincoln formally signed the Emancipation Proclamation. • 9. Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well educated, Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Land was assembled out of dramatic vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily lives of people where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life. Three reasons why I relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The smell of steaks is everywhere. When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and were commonly eaten by members of the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem because my family cooks steaks and my town calms down in the way that the city being described does. The poem then goes on to describe how a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant lots. The streets are gross and unattractive and the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland have grimy looking streets and houses like this city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened streets. I believe that part of the poem is telling us that life is empty at night and everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The pitchers for both sports have an even tougher time. Every position is important, but if your pitcher s arm is sore after every game, then it s going to impact your team. Baseball players are always worried about when their arm will start hurting, and the pitch count put in place helps so that they don t throw out their arm. Softball is different, in that there is no pitch count rule. Just because softball players don t put the same stress on their arms doesn t mean the arm motion they make is a natural movement, because of this, the league should put into place a certain amount of pitches they can throw. Baseball pitchers throw overhand in a sort of whipping motion that increases the velocity and how fast they can throw it. Well 5 was a shallow well, and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock (O Connor, 2002, pp.166). The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. Through the use of character portrayal, metaphor, symbolism, and diction, Robert Frost suggests to the reader that although people know that they should prepare themselves to walk through life, they still listen to their hearts, which causes them to be unprepared for what lies ahead of them. However, on the day that she hangs on the tree, she realizes her lack of knowledge, in comparison to her brother, and she shows her fear of facing the reality of life. Frost uses character portrayal to illustrate the differences between their characters. Like Eurydice in Greek mythology, whose husband came back to save her, the little girl is saved by her brother from the tree where she is suspended. Frost captures the idea that she is no longer an adventurer, and that leads the reader to notice that she is facing reality. Then Frost develops their characters making clear contrasts: the one who always knows about things and makes a decision following the knowledge and the one who is always led by the other, follows his knowledge, and gets confused in the process. Frost describes that the glade where the grape tree stands is the place that her brother already knew, and he leads her to the place. This introduces to the reader that he knows about the thing before he does it while she just follows what he does. Next, Frost describes, My brother did the climbing; and at first for in sweet feru and hardhack; which gave him some time to himself to eat. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Weather Project Essay The Weather Project by Olafur Eliasson By: Kayla Wilson Introduction: Olafur Eliasson, an extraordinary artist of the 19th and 20th century, was born on February 5, 1967 in Copenhagen, Denmark. All throughout Eliasson s childhood he was surrounded by beautiful, natural surroundings that caused him to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for environment itself and natural lights that create it. She was a native of San Fransico, who wrote many conventional novels. Her purpose in writing the story is to graphically demonstrate, pointless violence, and general inhumanity in people lives (Kennedy, Gioia, and Revoyr (2013). The story happens during the summer, while the children are out of school portraying formally a longtime ritual grounded in tradition. Consequently, individuals who wins the lottery will be stoned to death in a selected at random. • 23. The Presentation Of Self As A Work Developed By... The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life is a work developed by noted sociologist Erving Goffman. In it, Goffman details the sociological perspective of our social interactions. He uses the metaphor of theatre to better understand the complexities surrounding interactions; it is from this seminal text that we establish words from the dramaturgical framework such as performance, backstage, front stage, and costume as illustrations of interactionism. He begins the book by addressing the idea of performance. For Goffman, performance refers to all the activity of any individual which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers. (Goffman, 1959) In other words, performance is an analogy in reference to how a person acts, in both the front stage and backstage, for their audience. Because in every social interaction we are putting on a performance, Goffman believes that we each have a role as well. As with a theatrical production, the front stage and the back stage are critical in understanding how the interaction between individual and audience is carried out. The front stage or region is where the superior more desirable impressions of the self are brought forth; in the background, actors display a private and more nuanced version of the self as they consider this place separate from the role they play in society. There is also the idea of offstage, which Goffman argues is the place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heroin was invented in the 1895. ( Opium Throughout History ) It was a new concoction based on morphine, similar to the then popular laudanum, and was initially meant to be used as a cheaper medical substitute at the time. Heroin was never successfully brought into the medical fold, but was popular as a recreational drug almost immediately. Opiates, in one form or another, have been used for medical pain relief and recreationally since as early as 3400 BC. ( Opium throughout History ) Throughout the history of opium, control, regulation, trade, and addiction have been struggles for every society and civilization, starting with the Egyptians, hitting the Romans, the Chinese, and the Portuguese on the way, and continues to be a struggle in every modern society in the world. Merusault chooses not to verbally vocalize his opinion but mentally process it. In this context, I observe, that the powerless concubine became all powerful she ran away twice from Sara. Hagar s acts of running away from Sara twice helps me perceive Hagar taking over the role of an oppressor from her former role of one being oppressed. When looking at many Latin American cultures it is the women s duty to preserve the honor, and the male s job to protect it if there is ever a threat. Priming intervention is a process that supports learners to review instructional materials, routines, or activities before they occur (Carnahan Williamson, 2010). The information processing style of students with ASD is different compared to those of typically developing students. Their weak central coherence hinders them to actively participate and comprehend abstract information, verbal instructions, modeling, and social reinforcement (Carnahan Williamson, 2010). Therefore, priming helps to reduce anxiety, the anticipation of future events, and problem behaviors. Students with ASD benefit from priming intervention because it allows them to review future assignments and schedules. Priming can take place in any setting; home or classroom, yet it is most effective if it s built in the student s routine. This intervention also serves beneficial for reading and communication skills for it makes learning more predictable. Each student s ability and their unique daily schedule is assessed before priming instructions are formed. The article, Priming as a Method of Coordinating Educational Services for Students With Autism concludes that problem behavior decreased and academic progress increased when priming preceded curricular activities (Koegel, Koegel, Frea Green Hopkins, 2003). Depictions of the non elite and servant women were rare, but can be found in Renaissance art. This painting is representative of the role that women primarily took in the Renaissance. Women were the heir producers. More often than not, it was hoped that the child women were having was a boy, so that it could pass on the family name (Discussion, February 10). And if the women were to give birth to a girl, families continued to have children until there was at least one boy. This left some women pregnant for the majority of their lives. One of his most famous poems, Where the Sidewalk Ends shares the title with what may be his most well known book. This poem is a very meticulously worded work, and although it may be published in a children s book, it can be understood and very meaningful to older generations. This piece has a depth and wisdom that may be well beyond the comprehension of young minds, and it can be interpreted and analyzed in many ways and can reveal a variety of themes. When first reading this short poem, the initial theme that stands out to me, personally is the idea of the change that occurs during aging. It seems that the stark contrast between the imagery of the first stanza, versus the second stanza reveals the dramatic difference between childhood and adulthood. Childhood can be thought of as more gentle, airy, and even innocent. The third line of the first stanza says the grass grows soft and white... (Silverstein, n.d.). This gives that notion of gentleness, and innocence associated with childhood. Many think of the color white and associate it with innocence, maybe because of their religious practices. • 42. Joseph Campbell s Monomyth Chauntise McIntosh Prof. Warren Hum T/Th 1130/1245 INTRO/THESIS The Ramayana is an excellent example of Joseph Campbell s monomyth, who expresses that it marks the physical, mental, and spiritual changes that young women and men undergo as they grow and develop to fill a variety of roles in society (Whomsley 186) based on cultural dogmas. During this journey of maturation, an in individual must act in accordance with dharma to attain enlightenment. Dharma is the glue, which upholds the universe and humanity. Every individual has a sense of duty and destiny established from his or her responsibility to achieve his or her role in society. Dharma encompasses all actions, thoughts, and speech in keeping with living a virtuous life (India: The Ramayana 242). Acting contrary to your predestined role in society impairs not only the individual s ability to obtain dharma but that of humanities as well. The hero of the epic in this monomyth is Rama, who understands the sacrifices he must make in order to succeed in being a faithful and dutiful son, loving husband, and caring brother, while also being a stern leader and powerful warrior. Rama s ability to comprehend his conscious devotion to the beliefs of his culture based on the idea of dharma, results in his own enlightenment, symbolizing the ideas and values of his culture. The monomyth consist of three major phases: the departure, initiation and return. In addition, it includes numerous steps however, I will be examining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Claude Mckay, a Dialectical Analysis Essay Claude McKay amp; Dialectical Analysis In Claude McKay s, Old England and Quashie to Buccra McKay uses dialect as a way to give poems multiple meanings. What may be seen as a simplistic or naïve poem about Jamaican life may actually be full of double meanings that only a select audience would be able to identify. In his poem s, McKay ultimately gives Negros who work under white colonists the underlying message of black resistance by revolution. Perhaps what makes this interpretation so convincing is the background of the author. McKay was born Sunny Ville Jamaica as the youngest of 11 sons. While in Jamaica, McKay wrote Songs of Jamaica , which is where Quashie to Buccra is derived from. In this time, he also became a self ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In actuality, the poem can be seen by Negros as a way to criticize the white plantation owner and in fact plant the seeds of rebellion. Indeed, the title of the work itself leads credence to it being veiled in double meaning. While a white, European in the high rungs of the social ladder may read the poem as a simple address of worker to plantation owner. However, a Negro experiencing the strife of Quashie, the black peasant worker who produces sweet potatoes in the poem, may relate to the unfairness of they experience from the Buccra, which is the white man being addressed in the poem. Indeed, McKay points out in the poem, You taste the potato, and you say it s sweet, but you don t know how hard we work for it (McKay 2). Buccra even attempts to haggle for a lower price, further showing he doesn t understand the work that goes into farming the sweet potatoes, You want a basketful fe quattiewut (McKay 3). Not only does this demonstrate the Buccra s insensitivity to the work that goes into the harvest, but it shows he s greedy and milking the natives for every last sixpence. A white reader may look at the reading as Quashie simply complaining about his hard work, The sun is hot like when fire catches a town (McKay 9). In reality, Quashie would do this work even if he ...
