The Pc And Its Operating Systems
The PC and its Operating Systems The information technology field is a field that covers a vast
amount of technologies and ideas that have evolved to be much more than what they were during the
infancy of the technology movement. Perhaps the greatest innovator and most recognizable face of the
field is Bill Gates, the creator of the Windows operating system. Windows revolutionized the way the
public interacted with their personal computers and catapulted the devices into the majority of
American s homes. Running counter to Windows, and taking a completely open source route for ease
of access and distribution is Windows rival Linux. Linux has a very different approach to how the PC
should operate and had a number of different versions that are tailored to individual user s needs. All
of these different operating systems have at least one thing in common however. The ability to run on
a personal computer. The personal computer, or PC, the personal computer is a general purpose
computer that make it useful for individuals and are intended to be operated by an end user. Bill Gates
was born October 28th, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. Gates showed an early interest in the world of
computing, writing his first software program at age 13 and helping a group of programmers
computerize their schools payroll system ( Encyclopedia Brittanica ). Taking his love and interest for
the world of computing even further, Gates created his first company Traf O Data at age 17. This

Interview With A Research Coordinator Essay
Analysis of an Interview with a Research Coordinator
Summary
This interview aims to help students understand the role of the research coordinator (RC) and what it
is like for that person to bring a large scale research project from conception to completion. The
interview participant has worked as a RC for many years and has a strong background in statistics.
According to the participant, an essential qualification for a RC is a solid understanding of statistical
concepts and analyses, and the ability to build on that knowledge and apply it to statistical computer
programs. This foundational knowledge is needed because a project can involve a significant amount
of analysis and coding from data. The participant s current research project is a large scale project
involving the implementation of public health policy for BC and Ontario. This research is dynamic
and challenging and always evolving, which requires the RC to be flexible and adaptable. For many of
the team members, this project is not a primary job; therefore, it is important for the RC to find the
balance between project deadlines and allowing people to have personal time. Despite being the lead
for this project, the participant shares decision making with a variety of people and government
agencies in both provinces, which brings various levels of bureaucratic challenges, including gaining
access to data. This and other logistical constraints can make analyzing data and producing papers
time consuming.

suitcases (and their contents) was developed to regulate what the populations experiencing
homelessness can and cannot own (City of Chicago 2016: 2). The ownership of any possession
beyond those specified on the list can be confiscated or completely destroyed by city officials and, if
non compliant to the destruction of their property, those experiencing homelessness can be arrested.
Such regulations and seizures can constitute violations in both the Fourth and the Fifth Amendments

Further, they are a clear violation of Article 17 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which

The increasing prevalence of restrictions on people experiencing homelessness does little to
effectively confront the increasing homelessness in big U.S. cities. In fact, such restrictions have a
potential domino effect. A given community s efforts to force its homeless residents out, if successful,
will drive them into neighboring communities; these communities may then in turn pursue similar
efforts (26). The criminalization of homelessness is, in effect, a set of policies and laws that constitute
banishment and therefore do more to serve the more affluent and more stable housed populations in
than the people experiencing homelessness that may, quite literally, be left with nowhere to

Negative Effects Of Racial Profiling
The Amin brothers, Ahmad and Hassan, were normal young adults like you and I. They lived in
Pakistan for only a short period of their lives and moved to the US at a young age. Their mother,
Tahira Manzur had high hopes that they will become permanent, working, residents of the US.
Unfortunately, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, or INS for short, had suspicions that the
young men had correlations to a 9/11 terrorist attack. Hassan was arrested and stayed at Yuba county
jail overnight until a 4,000$ bail freed him and his younger brother ,Ahamad, missed school every
Wednesday and had to check in with the INS Offices. In the process, they were in the fight against
being deported for 5 tiring years along with rigorous court dates all because of assumptions to
terrorism. (Racial Profiling since 9/11). Part of their young lives was striped from them. Racial
profiling can and has had a detrimental effect on many lives like the Amin brothers. What does the
INS do? Their main job is to regulate immigrants who come into the country and if their transmission
is legal. Racial profiling is used, mainly in law enforcement, to target people based off of stereotypes
of their race, ethnicity, religion, or origin if they are suspected to be part of a criminal action. It has
been around since the 1800 s but a recent event also revealed it was used as well when Japanese
immigrants wanted to move to the US but were denied access because of distrust from the result of
WWII. This

Its clear to see that Shakespeare uses both romantic and identity crushes in the story Romeo and Juliet
but not only did Shakespeare show the different types of crushes but he revealed the danger of neglect
through the main characters parents. He got his audience thinking through his plays. One might
wonder if the parents neglect could have ultimately lead to the star crossed lovers death. The answer to
that would of course be yes and those inactive parents could have done as little as taking their children
s relationships seriously to have saved the doomed teenagers. In the Pickhart article, the author
explains how, Romantic crushes are formed by finding someone whom they find powerfully attractive,

Posse Comitatus Act Analysis
As Hurricane Katrina exposed the weaknesses of the levies, it did the same with the New Orleans
Police Department (NOPD) by showing its cracks within the force; it demonstrated a lack of law
enforcement. Despite its many infrastructures in Louisiana, most failed in the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina. Along with local and state law enforcement, the armed Forces can augment local authorities.
Lack of law enforcement and the enactment of the Posse Comitatus Act yielded new laws to aid after a
natural disaster
For Local, State, and Federal Governments, the hours after a natural disaster are the most vital, it
would be difficult to enforce order in the absence of a police force. Amid any natural disaster people
are inclined to flee the affected area or protect their own family and property. In the case of the New
Orleans Police Department it is reported that roughly a third of the force abandoned their post, which
created a vacuum. During post Hurricane Katrina seventy six officers were fired for abandoning their
positions during a major crisis, eleven officers were fired for neglecting their duties Forty one officers

President Rutherford B. Hayes signed the Posse Comitatus Act into law on June 18, 1878. The original
intent of the Posse Comitatus Act was to end the utilization of government troops to police states
during elections in the former Confederate States. The Navy and the Marine Corps are not included in
the Act, but rather DoD Regulations subject them to it. The Posse Comitatus Act does not apply to the
Coast Guard because this service falls under the Department of Homeland Security. In 2005, President

Calfee And CAFE Standards
CAFE is an acronym for Corporate Average Fuel Economy. As stated in, Will Corporate Average Fuel
Economy Help, CAFÉ standards became prevalent by Congress in 1975 after the oil crisis of the 1970
s. These standards were proposed in order to help the United States depend less on foreign oil (Sen et
al. 2017, p. 279). The idea of CAFÉ standards does not only help us rely less on foreign oil, but it also
reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Below general information about CAFÉ and the CAFÉ standards
that are current today will be described. As described above, CAFÉ was first introduced after the 1973
oil crisis. Congress needed to find solutions to reduce our reliance on oil imported from other
countries. CAFÉ requires car and light truck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, lightweight cars are not seen as an issue because of the advancements we have made in
technology. However, during the mid 1970 s to 1980 s, consumers were correlating that the rise in
automobile fatalities was correlated to CAFÉ s standards with fuel efficiency. During this time of
concern, it was concluded that better fuel efficiency could be accomplished by technologies that were
available at the time and these technologies would not change the weight of the automobile (Schmidt
2002, pg.468). Technology is always advancing. During the time of safety concerns, people did not
necessarily realize that improved technology would be launched in the years to come (Bezdek and
Wendling 2003, p. 409).
How have CAFÉ standards progressed and what are the requirements for new car models? Starting in
May of 2010, former President Barack Obama, the National Highway Traffic and Safety
Administration (NHTSA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), all administered Final
Rules for automobiles built in 2017 through 2021 (United States Department of Transportation 2014).
The regulations were aimed towards CAFÉ and Greenhouse Gas emissions for cars and light trucks.
Along with cars and light trucks, there were also regulations set in place for medium and heavy duty
trucks. The only difference is that the heavier trucks are years 2014 to 2018. Cars and light trucks will

The Godfather Opening Scene Essay
The Godfather is the story of Vito and Michael Corleone. Michael is the son of Vito who is the Don of
the Corleone mafia crime family. The Godfather depicts how an orphaned Sicilian immigrant rises to
the top of organized crime in America and how his son, who at first shuns his father s world, embraces
his father s way of life after the attempted murder on his father.
Mise en scene paints the picture of a film and is also known as what is on the stage. At the beginning
of The Godfather, the movie starts at in darkness with the words of the undertaker being heard saying,
I believe in America. We then see the undertaker come into frame. The low key lighting on the face of
the undertaker casts a dark shadow over the entire scene and immediately makes the audience feel the
despair and fear coming from him. The benefit from the lighting of the opening scene is that it sets the
stage for the violent and criminal nature of the film. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One in particular that focuses on the use of sound and music is the restaurant scene where Michael
kills the family s rival gangster Sollozzo and corrupt police captain, McCluskey. Coppola makes two
main choices with the sound to create tension in the scene. He chooses not to include music in the
scene and exaggerates key sound effects to heighten Michael s emotional state. As the three of the men
sit down, the first sound you hear is the pop of the cork being twisted off the wine bottle. It is an
exaggerated sound and much louder than anything else that is being heard inside the restaurant but it
sets the tone for the scene as if to say to listen more closely. Sollozzo and Michael starts talking in
Italian but you aren t provided with any subtitles so unless you know Italian, you don t really know

What Is The Impact Of New Materials On Product Deisng In...
The Impact of New Materials on Product Deisng in 20th and 21st Centuries
As new materials are developed and processed, design technologists and people working with
industrial materials must think how these new materials will affect the way in which they design and
manufacture products. Design technologists also have to be conscious of how these materials effect
the environment and the way in which they are recycled. In Today s industry products are increasingly
being made from composite materials. Composite materials are formed by combining two or more
materials that have different properties. The different materials work together to give ... Show more

A wood based material such as chipboard is created by taking wood particles (flakes, chips and
shavings) from all commercial timbers, bonded with synthetic phenolic resin. This type of wood is
also a type of composite. Composite timber products have many advantages over ordinary timbers
such as Oregon. They can utilise smaller dimensions of timber as the raw material, but can be
manufactured to create large dimension composite beams and sheets, etc. Less timber overall is
required to make products which are lighter and stronger than timber. Lower quantities and smaller
sizes of timber means less pressure on native forest timber. Prices of imported timbers will continue to
rise which will continue to make composites a more attractive proposition for builders and designers.
The real disadvantage to manufactured wood based woods is the chemical fumes that it emits (M.D.F
is a banned material in the U.S.A). Due to the resins used into making the wood once being cut at high
speeds the dust can lead to intoxication of chemical fumes. The other major disadvantage is the non
grain finish. Although M.D.F has a smooth finish and for some products this is ideal, other products
are designed for a grain finish. Another material that has made a major impact in modern

Dangers Of Junk Food Essay
The Dangers in the Food We Love The junk food we love can be so harmful to our beautiful bodies.
Do you really think people make good decisions in choosing what they want to eat? Men, women and
even children know the difference in foods which can affect one s health. With no hesitation an
individual will daringly eat a food without knowing the calories taken within that one burger. Within
the 70 s till our generation now a person will see an image or hear someone say you will win an award
for eating a 19,900 calorie burger, way more calories consumed than is supposed to. As years go by
the portions of the food goes up such as the prices. Our generation needs to take consideration in our
health because what we consume now, can affect us majorly in the future. 18 26 year olds have to be
the ones to change what is consumed in their daily lifestyles. The average lifespan for our generation
will be approximately 70 years old, shorter than the span of our parents which live up to there 100 s

Low Carbohydrate Diets Or Ketosis Diets Essay
Very low carbohydrate diets or ketosis diets have become increasingly popular for weight loss. There
is evidence from individual trials about the benefits and risks of a low carbohydrate diet verses a fat
restricted diet (2).The objective of this paper is to discover whether low carbohydrate diets have more
beneficial health related solutions verses a fat restricted diet. In one study, a traditional low fat diet
was compared to a low carbohydrate diet amongst people who have type two diabetes. The results
show that only a low carbohydrate diet provided significant improvement of the inflammatory state
and type two diabetes. In another study,Evidence supports a low carbohydrate diet for weight loss and
improvement in traditional cardiovascular disease. The effects of a low carbohydrate diet and a low fat
diet were examined for 12 months among 148 obese adults free of diabetes and cardiovascular
disease. At 12 months participants of low carbohydrate diet had significantly greater increases in
adiponecin than those on a low fat diet, as resulting low carbohydrate diet had a similar or greater
improvement then standard low fat diet. In another study, 148 men and women without cardiovascular
disease or diabetes were put into either low carbohydrate diet or low fat diet. Both groups received
dietary counseling regularly. Data was collected every three months. Results stated that those on low
carbohydrate diet have greater decrease in weight and greater increase in HDL

Effects Of Anatomical Parts Of Ephedra Sinica
Ephedra (Ma Huang) is a genus of plant, most commonly derived from the dried herbaceous stems of
the Chinese species, Ephedra sinica (Figure 1a and 1b). The natural plant source produces six Ephedra
alkaloids, chemicals which are considered to be the active constituents of the plant; ephedrine,
pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, methylephedrine and methylpsuedoephedrine
(Figure 2) (Veitch et al., 2013). The presence and concentrations of these alkaloids depends primarily
on the plant species, origin, growing conditions, and the raw plant material processing, with most
species largely containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine (Haller et al., 2004). Metabolomic studies
have shown that anatomical parts of Ephedra sinica have different therapeutic pharmacological effects
and for this reason, have been used for different purposes in medicine. This was demonstrated by Lv
et al (2015), who used GC MS to compare the concentrations of Ephedra sinica in the stems (Ma
Huang) and in the roots (Mahuanggen) of different plant samples. It was concluded that the
pharmacologically important ephedrine alkaloids were present in higher quantities in the stems. This
is why Ephedra herb, sold as dry stems of Ephedra sinica, has been used as a commercial source of
ephedrine alkaloids worldwide, in particular Europe and America (Lee 2011).

Rhetorical Devices In 102 Minutes
102 Minutes Essay
In 102 Minutes, the authors force the reader to absorb the significant toll that the events of 9 11 had on
the families involved and people across America; also, Dwyer and Flynn seek to inform them of the
errors in the design of the towers and decisions made by rescuers that preceded the catastrophic events
that took place. The authors mention these facts and arguments to ensure the improvement of future
architectural practices, prepare people for intense situations, and to personalize the tragedy that holds
such an important place in our country s history. Through various rhetorical strategies, the writers
appeal emotionally and analytically to their audience.
The World Trade Center (WTC) held fairly high regard throughout New York as a structurally sound
building, but the authors of 102 Minutes beg to differ on this opinion. They use various diagrams and
statistics of the incredible impact and destruction the planes caused to the building, arguments against
the poor architectural design and support of the towers, and periodic timestamps to make claims and
factual statements about the events that occurred. The timestamps serve as a means of the authors
building suspense in their audience, deepening uncertainty in the audience which intends to move

Death By Scrabble Irony
There are three types of irony. Death by Scrabble is an ironic story by Charlie Fish. The characters in
this story are not named, but readers get to know the 42 years old man and his wife. Within the story,
you learn that the couple is uneasy in their relationship. The story Death by Scrabble shows verbal,
situational, and dramatic irony.
In the story Death by Scrabble uses verbal irony a lot. For instants when the man says If only I had a
D, then I could play MURDER. That would be a sign. That would be permission. He doesn t really
want her dead he just doesn t want to play scrabble. Or when he says The steam rising from her cup of
tea makes me feel hotter. I try to make murderous words with the letters on my rack, but the best I can
do is SLEEP. My wife sleeps all the time. She slept through an argument our next door neighbors had
that resulted in a broken door, a smashed TV and a Teletubby Lala doll with all the stuffing coming
out. And then she bitched at me for being moody the next day from lack of sleep. She doesn t sleep all
the time she just is a heavy sleeper. She clearly doesn t sleep all the time because she is playing
scrabble. The verbal irony leads to the situational irony. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

builds to a climax. As a reader you would expect the wife to die but he ends up chocking on a scrabble

Climate Change And Its Effect On Earth Essay
What is climate change? Climate change, additionally called an unnatural weather change, alludes to
the ascent in normal surface temperatures on Earth. The present warming pattern is of specific
essentialness on the grounds that the majority of it is likely human incited and continuing at a rate that
is exceptional in the previous 1,300 years. Earth circling satellites and other innovative advances have
empowered researchers to see the comprehensive view, gathering a wide range of sorts of data about
our planet and its atmosphere on a worldwide scale. This group of information, gathered over
numerous years, uncovers the signs of an evolving atmosphere. The warmth catching nature of carbon
dioxide and different gasses was exhibited in the mid nineteenth century. Their capacity to influence
the exchange of infrared vitality through the environment is the logical premise of many instruments
flown by NASA. There is no doubt that expanded levels of greenhouse gasses must bring about the
Earth to warm accordingly. Ice centers drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain ice
sheets demonstrate that the World s atmosphere reacts to changes in greenhouse gas levels. They
likewise demonstrate that before, extensive changes in atmosphere have happened rapidly,
geographically: in several years, not in millions or even thousands. Environmental change can prompt

The Causes Of Witchcraft
The human mind has always tried to grapple with inconsistencies, misfortunes, and differences.
Without true success, humans have pinpointed possible influences and causes of misfortunes or
tragedies within their communities. For many people in the 1600 s, witchcraft was a possible answer
to a lack of success in pinpointing the cause of tragedies. Gossip was the the primary root in all such
instances of witchcraft, weaving stories and accusations in private. These accusations of witchcraft did
not end in the 17th century, but now hide under pseudonyms such as different or outsider in this day
and age. The Lisbon sisters and Janie from The Virgin Suicides and Their Eyes Were Watching God,
respectively, are modern day examples of how gossip can catalyze witch hunts to persecute and incite
violence upon women who differ from the status quo. Janie and the Lisbon sisters possess many
characteristics often attributed to witches: sexual deviance, religious discord, and they are each
outsiders in their community. Witch craft is heavily influenced by rumor and gossip in the sense that
witchcraft would not exist without rumor and gossip to be fear leaders in witch hunts. The fear that
gossip and rumor bring about in a community often snowballs into acts of irrevocable violence and
sometimes death, as is the case in The Virgin Suicides. Women have always been the targets of witch
hunts for two main reasons: one being that men were perceived as stronger than women, and
therefore,

The Riddle os the Fourth Gospel by Poul Anderson
Anderson writes The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel to provide students, of any level, with an overview
and evaluation of the varying approaches to understanding the Fourth Gospel, and ultimately to serve
as a guide through the controversy and riddles encountered in the Fourth Gospel. Anderson addresses
the work of the international community of Johannine scholars and introduces a new set of paradigms.
The introduction immediately captivates those who have yet to wade in the perplexities of the Fourth
Gospel by bombarding the reader with the many puzzlements of the Fourth Gospel. Anderson tackles
the issue in three parts.
Part one introduces the most perplexing of the Johannine riddles. After an outline of the Gospel of
John, Anderson presents the threefold riddles: theological, historical, and literary. Anderson considers
familiarity with the points of contention a requisite for engaging, addressing, and interpreting them.
Chapter one exposes the central features of the Fourth Gospel; which effectively reveals the
dissimilarities between John and the Synoptic Gospels. Chapter two uncovers the theological riddles
of the Fourth Gospel, both incidental and highly significant. For the twelve theological riddles
presented in chapter 2, Anderson conveys the work of Johannine scholarship as well as presents his
own incisive exegesis. Anderson does likewise in his presentation of the historical and literary riddles
in chapters 3 and 4. The first part successfully establishes the

Theme Of Feminism In A Doll House
In the initial publication of A Doll s House, in 1879 the author Henrik Ibsen cited cases of inequality

premise of feminism. These shall be done through a concrete argumentative narrative of both

The play clearly shows women are as capable as their counterpart men. They can provide and sacrifice
greatly for the survival of the family. Technically, they can run a home more or less just like the men.
For instance, Nora is the one who had to save the money that they used to go to Italy. Nora is a
positive role model for feminism in that she realized she had the potential and went ahead to make it a
reality. She left her marriage because she felt it was not giving her what she deserved as a woman. She
thought it was the time to break the stereotype that the society has on women that they are not
supposed to be heard, neither are they expected to possess any wealth. It is a wake up call for every
woman who is oppressed in one way or another. She was empowering women on the importance of
following our dream and breaking the oppressive rules and the stereotypes that the society created for
women.

The Importance Of Outside And Non Associating Scientists...
1. The hiring of outside and non associating scientists with recognition in a particular field to perform
the research to assure the safety of a specific product or processes. These services can be hired to
generate controversy about a competing product and debate with scientists and regulatory bodies on
the side effects of dangers of a product. For e.g. pharmaceutical and chemical companies used this
tactic for drugs and household chemicals marketing.
2. The selection and formation of so called front groups of third party scientists/ experts to support the
scientific position of claims made by the scientists of particular companies. The example of scientific
advisory boards or SABs is normally used to defend the companies in court cases and in general
public claims.
3. The creation and utilization of industry groups or associations, including the associations and
organization for an industry, think tanks, and public opinion organizations assist the companies in
proving the claims of companies to be legitimate.
4. The use of media and PR agencies to create and change opinions of general public. For instance, the
development of VNRs or video news releases is relatively a new technique of PR firms used to relay
videos of company claims about products and / or services in easily downloadable formats like videos
shared on YouTube. These videos are available on common media as well in form of paid segments
and public associated the content with the news releases

Guatemalan Literature
Syriac literature accounts for 90% of the total Aramaic literature. The literature was written in the
Esṭrangelā (Classical) form. The earliest forms of Syriac literature were based in Edessa and were
written by pagans, agnostics, Jews, and Christians. The exact origins of these works were never found.
By the start of the third century the Old Testament had already been translated into Syriac from
Hebrew. Around the same time is when one of the earliest versions of the New Testament known as
the Diatessaron came into being. This work was used by the Syriac Church for two centuries until a
prominent bishop claimed that the author, Tatian was a heretic. This book consisted of the gospels of

Though called the Assyrian genocide a better suited name would be the Assyrian/Syriac/Chaldean

Greek genocide. This event was not the first tragedy in Syriac history as Byzantine oppression,
slaughter at the hands of the Crusaders, and Mongol invasion occurred prior (The Syriac Orthodox
Church a Brief Overview, NP). The rise of nationalism among the Christian citizens of the Ottoman
Empire and the rise of the Young Turk government that preached a Turkey for the Turks was recipe for
a disaster. The Young Turk government staged a successful coup in 1913. Following the entrance of
the Ottoman Empire into World War I in November 1914 simultaneous genocides against Assyrians,
Armenians, and Greeks occurred along with the help of Kurdish tribes. Victims were plundered, raped,
deported, and massacred horrifically. The Assyrian genocide is treated slightly differently from that of
the Armenians as there were no specific orders to attack and deport Assyrians from Ottoman leaders
since they were not assisting the Russian Empire and did not desire their own nation state. The
genocide was carried out by local leaders and Kurdish tribes. In some cities the entire adult
populations were wiped out whereas in other cities such as Mardin only the male population was
killed and the widows and children were forced to leave on foot which caused many more deaths. The
deaths were not limited to just the Ottoman Empire as Assyrians in Persia were also slaughtered when
the Ottoman Empire invaded northwestern Persia (The Assyrian Genocide, 1914 to 1923 and 1933 up
to the Present, NP). The death toll was believed to be 300,000 Syriacs yet has only been recognized by
the Swedish and Armenian Parliaments (Centenary of 1915 Syriac (Sayfo) genocide, NP). As the

Guns In Public Places
People should not be allow to carry their guns in public places because there are a lot of people dying
because of shootings. Americans needs more regulations on the gun situation, we don t want more
people under 3 meters of dirt just because some crazy person was able to get a gun and start to shoot
them, that s why guns should be restricted and take them away from everyone. The first reason we
need more regulations on guns is because there are a lot of irresponsible people that have guns at
home. They keep them ready to shoot, and that s no how it supposed to be. They have to put the
bullets apart and the gun with a look according to the The Brookings Essay The promise. The Families

Intersectionality Theory
Kimberlé Crenshaw is an esteemed civil rights advocate and law professor. Crenshaw introduced the
concept of intersectionality to the acclaimed feminist theory close to 30 years ago in a paper written
for the University of Chicago Legal Forum, describing the intersectional experience as something
greater than the sum of racism and sexism. (Crenshaw) She wrote in terms of intersectional feminism,
which examines the overlapping systems of oppression and discrimination that women face, based not
just on gender but on ethnicity, sexuality, economic background and a number of other axes. She
speaks on it in a sense that the term intersectionality provides us with a way to see issue that arise
from discrimination or disempowerment often being more complicated for people who are subjected
to multiple forms of exclusion because of the protected clauses they may possess. Crenshaw speaks on
the urgency of intersectionality in her Ted talk. This as well as her spreading awareness for the
#SayHerName campaign drives a tie between the necessity for intersectionality advocaism and the the
occurrences of neglect and violence present in societal happenings today. The question that stands in
the forefront of her work is how can we effectively apply an intersectional methodology to analysis of
violence and other acts against people who are often being neglected of any sort of recognition in
social issues today? Intersectionality is one of the better known concepts within the

Propaganda Poster Analysis
The propaganda poster Are You? by Lori Song explicitly uncovers the reality and future of the comfort
women controversy between Korea and Japan. A sensitive part of both countries history, comfort
women were Korean females who were sent to Japanese armies as sex slaves during WWII, a time
when Korea was colonized by Japan. In 2015, the two countries settled an agreement that was
considered the final talk on the issue. As part of the settlement, Japan gave $8.3 million as reparation
and Korea agreed to work on removing the comfort woman statue in front of the Japanese embassy the
comfort women survivors were excluded from the process. Many Koreans and Japanese believe that

In the poster, a hand is covering the mouth of the comfort woman statue. Suppressing the comfort
women voices from coming out to the world, the hand could represent the Japanese and Korean

survivors from speaking up about their experiences against a careless society. Not specifying the
owner of the hand implies how whether the audience is the aforementioned or the later is of minor
importance. The two are essentially equal to the comfort women in how they both neglect a
horrendous part of their history and cause society to forget about the victims and their sufferings. To
express the comfort women s disappointment towards the ignorant people and the governments, the
author structures the red title vertically, drawing an image of bloody tears. The resentful title haunts
the audience with the torturous memories the comfort women had to burden in spite of an ignorant
society. Being standardized to a brutal subject along with the oppressive governments, the viewers are

Gi-Fi Technology
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Wi Fi (ieee 802.11b) and Wi Max (ieee 802.16e) have captured our attention. As there are no recent

So to have higher data transfer rate at lower power consumption we move onto Gi Fi technology.
➢ The 802.11b and 802.11g flavours of Wi Fi use the 2.4 GHz spectrum, which is crowded with other
devices such as Bluetooth, microwave ovens, cordless phones, or video sender devices, among many
others. This may cause degradation in performance. Other devices which use microwave frequencies
such as certain types of cell phones can also cause degradation in performance.
➢ Power consumption is fairly high compared to other standards, making battery life and heat a
concern.
➢ Not always configured properly by user. Commonly uses WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
protocol for protection, though has been shown to be easily breakable. Newer wireless solutions are
slowly providing support for the superior WPA (Wi Fi Protected Access) protocol, though many
systems still employ WEP.

so that they could depict their own family structure (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 471). Once this process was
complete, the experimenter would tell the children a story and then ask them to tell them what
happens next (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 471). Based on the findings, narrative play techniques tell us that
children from lesbian mother families represented their mothers as equally positive parents to
heterosexual families (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 474). They also showed their mothers to have similar
levels of discipline (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 474). Also through the use of play narratives, children from
lesbian mother families showed no more negative emotion themes as children from heterosexual
families (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 474). The more negative emotion within a family, the higher amount
of behavior problems exists within the child (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 476). Based on the data from the
study, children from lesbian mother families did not have more negative emotion themes in their
stories compared to heterosexual parents (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 476). This suggests that children
being raised in a lesbian mother family do not experience negative psychological or emotional
consequences. They also do not suffer in terms of the quality of the relationship between the mother

Juvenile Crime And Crime Rates
Juvenile crime is one of the nation s most serious problems. Concerns about it are generally
broadcasted by federal, state, and local government officials and by the public. In years prior, the
burden developed beginning with the dramatic rise in juvenile violence in the eighties reaching an all
time peak in the first part of the nineties. Even though juvenile crime rates seem to have lowered since
the mid nineties, the reduction has not eased the concern. Many states began taking strict statutory
stances toward juveniles in the late seventies and early eighties. This was an era in which juvenile
crime rates were steady or dropping slightly, while federal reformers were commending prevention
and less disciplinary actions. Some of the conflict between the federal program and what was
happening in the states at that time may have been initiated by substantial changes in legal measures
that made juvenile court procedures more similar, however not equal to those in adult (criminal) court.
The reaction to the most recent spike in vicious juvenile crime has been a portrayal of laws that
uphold blurred differences between juvenile courts and adult courts. Some states continued to
strengthen their juvenile crime laws over the years first by making sentencing more severe, two by
increasing allowable transfers to criminal court, or doing away with some of the discretion protections
of juvenile court. Many such changes were enacted after the juvenile violent crime rate had already

Rust Inhibitors In The Connecticut
Did you realize that living in Connecticut could cause you to come to a violent end? It s true, and for a
reason you may never expect. One would think road salt would help them during the winter to reduce
slippery conditions, but it also has a very horrid opposite effect.
The Connecticut D.O.T. needs to start putting rust inhibitors back into the road salt. The state uses
magnesium chloride to de ice the roads, which is especially corrosive. Rust inhibitors work by
reducing corrosion by consuming some of the oxygen that that is necessary to cause rust. Some
officials claim that if it gets into streams, it could lower oxygen levels, killing some fish or other
aquatic animal.
The rust inhibitors were taken out of road salt in CT in 2007 when wastewater treatment workers
reported low oxygen levels outside the plant. Nobody knows that rust inhibitors had anything to do
with it. State officials are too quick, in my opinion, to jump to conclusions. The cars in this state, one

Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate And Crime Rate
The Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate and Crime Rate in Australia
By Christopher Batho During the period of 2002 to 2014, the imprisonment rate in Australia increased
while at the same time the crime rate decreased. This essay will aim to give reasons and theories as to
why this apparent disparity between the rising imprisonment rate and decreasing crime rate exists. To
do this, the purposes for punishment will be examined, how and why this purpose of punishment has
changed over time, the sociological and criminological theories that best explain this disparity, and
finally the implications on society through these criminal justice trends. However firstly we will
examine the statistics that prove this disparity. Between 2002 and ... Show more content on

Property crime includes unlawful entry with intent (UEWI), motor vehicle theft (MVT) and other
theft. The total number of offences for property crime has decreased from 1,188,582 in 2002 to
773348 in 2012. From both sets of data, it can be calculated that in the period of 2002 to 2012, the
imprisonment rate increased 13.5 percent yet the violent crime and property crime rates decreased 26
percent and 35 percent respectively. The question is, how is this possible? This will be answered later
but now the purposes for punishment will now be studied. When a person is guilty of a crime, it is
society s job to punish this person for their act. Once the person has been found guilty, they are then
sentenced by a judge with a certain purpose or purposes for the punishment. The main four purposes
used are retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation and incapacitation. Retribution is defined by Mani as
the offender must be punished simply because the wrongful act merits condemnation and punishment.
(Reference). Deterrence is based on the idea that criminal behaviour can be deterred if punishment is
swift, certain, and severe enough to counter the benefits or pleasure gained from committing crime.
(Reference). Rehabilitation of an offender may be achieved through education or therapy. However, it

Tadashi s Last Kiss
Prose
A prolonged silence engulfed the surrounding distance between the two figures, an icy wind cutting
across the plateau. They watched each other s every move, every twitch and every breath.
You always were a glutton for punishment, Tadashi called out, his sharp voice ringing throughout the
highland. He rose his blade and aimed it s pointed tip at her, continuously shifting his weight until he
was satisfied.
And you for power, she shot back, tightening her grip on the hilt of her weapon.
Tadashi examined her face although her expression bore no emotion. Her eyes were cold and glassy,
lips straightened in a tight line. Today, she was going to kill him.
She lunged forwards, springing across the frozen tundra silently and swiftly. Snow was tossed around
her body as she leapt towards Tadashi with a murderous intent. Plunging her blade at his chest, she
was left thrusting madly at empty air. Tadashi countered, swinging his sword with such strong
momentum that his opponent was sent staggering backwards. But he suspected it wouldn t be so easy.
Her shape flickered and disappeared from sight, leaving Tadashi to patiently await her next strike.
Nothing but the sound of the howling wind could be heard. A knowing smile crossed his face and he
swivelled on his heels, meeting her attack with the satisfying clang of metal upon metal. Their eyes
met and they stood in the cold, neither daring to break the steely gaze. Tadashi was prepared to end

Abstract This paper is about the use of animals by the military, specifically, canines, horses, dolphins
and even pigeons. Throughout the paper I will go into the history of the uses of these animals, the
training that the animals as well as the handlers go through, as well as current uses for these animals.
Finally I will also bring to light some animal heroes and famous animals associated with the military.
Today in the United States of America, we know freedom unlike other countries. In part this is from
the protection we receive from our United States military, today there are several branches protecting
us by land, sea and air; from the United States Marine Corp, the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force,
and the Coast Guard. Men and women alike put on a uniform and go to work, but unlike a regular 9 5
job the men and women of the US military protect us 24 7. In addition to the men and women of the
military, there are others such as K9 s and horses, as well as dolphins that have played their role in
protecting us and have made their impact throughout history and are now continuing to make in
impact both on and off the battlefield.

The Glass Ceiling, By Charlotte Perkins Stetson
Faces of Women The glass ceiling is something still very present in today s society. Women in the
workforce are constantly trying to break through barriers set by society to break away from
stereotypes. Many women work twice as hard and still get paid significantly less than their male co
workers. They experience sex typing from a young age being pushed to study more feminine
occupations, such as nursing. While on the other hand men are encouraged to seek positions of power
and leadership. If a woman decides to choose an occupation that demands the use of intellectual
thinking, they are given boundaries to which they are limited. Women are seen as the weaker sex and
have been severely over diagnosed with depression, anxiety, or any other type of mental illness. We
see this issue addressed in Virginia Woolf s Professions for Women and Susanna Kaysen s memoir
Girl, Interrupted . Women are taught to that they need to display certain behavior and uphold a perfect
appearance in order to be taken seriously in society. Charlotte Perkins Stetson uses the art of writing to
bring us along the emotional ride of a woman who s true feelings were labeled unreliable in her story
The Yellow Wall Paper . For decades women have struggled with being treated as subordinates and
this continues today. We are able to see the unjust treatment of women reflected in their salaries,
promotions, and general treatment in the workforce, specifically the medical field. There has been

Visual Analysis Essay On Bridget Riley
There is a single gallery exhibition showing at the Art Institute of Chicago, presenting Bridget Riley s
works. Gallery 294 is exhibiting three paintings and one installation in all. Riley is a British artist who
dominantly engaged in a short lived art movement called Op Art in 1960s and since then she
developed her works from abstract black and white paintings to colorful stripe paintings. Riley

Red Modulation (Yellow and Orange) is in between the Ascending and Descending Hero and
Horizontal Vibration. Riley repeated warm color horizontal lines in the same thickness. It does not
only create a pattern, but also hides several vertical lines when the viewer steps back to the middle of
the gallery. Some pink vertical lines are dancing in the repetitive stripes. Both of the pieces offer
viewers a virtual optical experience. Walking slowly into the installation Continuum, Riley built a
hypnotic space for viewers by painting monochromatic geometric shapes

  • 2. The Pc And Its Operating Systems The PC and its Operating Systems The information technology field is a field that covers a vast amount of technologies and ideas that have evolved to be much more than what they were during the infancy of the technology movement. Perhaps the greatest innovator and most recognizable face of the field is Bill Gates, the creator of the Windows operating system. Windows revolutionized the way the public interacted with their personal computers and catapulted the devices into the majority of American s homes. Running counter to Windows, and taking a completely open source route for ease of access and distribution is Windows rival Linux. Linux has a very different approach to how the PC should operate and had a number of different versions that are tailored to individual user s needs. All of these different operating systems have at least one thing in common however. The ability to run on a personal computer. The interview participant has worked as a RC for many years and has a strong background in statistics. According to the participant, an essential qualification for a RC is a solid understanding of statistical concepts and analyses, and the ability to build on that knowledge and apply it to statistical computer programs. This foundational knowledge is needed because a project can involve a significant amount of analysis and coding from data. The participant s current research project is a large scale project involving the implementation of public health policy for BC and Ontario. Effects Of Anatomical Parts Of Ephedra Sinica Ephedra (Ma Huang) is a genus of plant, most commonly derived from the dried herbaceous stems of the Chinese species, Ephedra sinica (Figure 1a and 1b). The natural plant source produces six Ephedra alkaloids, chemicals which are considered to be the active constituents of the plant; ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, methylephedrine and methylpsuedoephedrine (Figure 2) (Veitch et al., 2013). The presence and concentrations of these alkaloids depends primarily on the plant species, origin, growing conditions, and the raw plant material processing, with most species largely containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine (Haller et al., 2004). Metabolomic studies have shown that anatomical parts of Ephedra sinica have different therapeutic pharmacological effects and for this reason, have been used for different purposes in medicine. This was demonstrated by Lv et al (2015), who used GC MS to compare the concentrations of Ephedra sinica in the stems (Ma Huang) and in the roots (Mahuanggen) of different plant samples. It was concluded that the pharmacologically important ephedrine alkaloids were present in higher quantities in the stems. This is why Ephedra herb, sold as dry stems of Ephedra sinica, has been used as a commercial source of ephedrine alkaloids worldwide, in particular Europe and America (Lee 2011). Gossip was the the primary root in all such instances of witchcraft, weaving stories and accusations in private. The rise of nationalism among the Christian citizens of the Ottoman Empire and the rise of the Young Turk government that preached a Turkey for the Turks was recipe for a disaster. The Young Turk government staged a successful coup in 1913. Following the entrance of the Ottoman Empire into World War I in November 1914 simultaneous genocides against Assyrians, Armenians, and Greeks occurred along with the help of Kurdish tribes. Victims were plundered, raped, deported, and massacred horrifically. The Assyrian genocide is treated slightly differently from that of the Armenians as there were no specific orders to attack and deport Assyrians from Ottoman leaders since they were not assisting the Russian Empire and did not desire their own nation state. The genocide was carried out by local leaders and Kurdish tribes. In some cities the entire adult populations were wiped out whereas in other cities such as Mardin only the male population was killed and the widows and children were forced to leave on foot which caused many more deaths. The deaths were not limited to just the Ottoman Empire as Assyrians in Persia were also slaughtered when the Ottoman Empire invaded northwestern Persia (The Assyrian Genocide, 1914 to 1923 and 1933 up to the Present, NP). The death toll was believed to be 300,000 Syriacs yet has only been recognized by the Swedish and Armenian Parliaments (Centenary of 1915 Syriac (Sayfo) genocide, NP). Crenshaw introduced the concept of intersectionality to the acclaimed feminist theory close to 30 years ago in a paper written for the University of Chicago Legal Forum, describing the intersectional experience as something greater than the sum of racism and sexism. (Crenshaw) She wrote in terms of intersectional feminism, which examines the overlapping systems of oppression and discrimination that women face, based not just on gender but on ethnicity, sexuality, economic background and a number of other axes. She speaks on it in a sense that the term intersectionality provides us with a way to see issue that arise from discrimination or disempowerment often being more complicated for people who are subjected to multiple forms of exclusion because of the protected clauses they may possess. Crenshaw speaks on the urgency of intersectionality in her Ted talk. This as well as her spreading awareness for the #SayHerName campaign drives a tie between the necessity for intersectionality advocaism and the the occurrences of neglect and violence present in societal happenings today. Based on the findings, narrative play techniques tell us that children from lesbian mother families represented their mothers as equally positive parents to heterosexual families (Perry et al., 2004, pg. 474). • 33. Juvenile Crime And Crime Rates Juvenile crime is one of the nation s most serious problems. Concerns about it are generally broadcasted by federal, state, and local government officials and by the public. In years prior, the burden developed beginning with the dramatic rise in juvenile violence in the eighties reaching an all time peak in the first part of the nineties. Even though juvenile crime rates seem to have lowered since the mid nineties, the reduction has not eased the concern. Many states began taking strict statutory stances toward juveniles in the late seventies and early eighties. This was an era in which juvenile crime rates were steady or dropping slightly, while federal reformers were commending prevention and less disciplinary actions. Some of the conflict between the federal program and what was happening in the states at that time may have been initiated by substantial changes in legal measures that made juvenile court procedures more similar, however not equal to those in adult (criminal) court. The reaction to the most recent spike in vicious juvenile crime has been a portrayal of laws that uphold blurred differences between juvenile courts and adult courts. Some states continued to strengthen their juvenile crime laws over the years first by making sentencing more severe, two by increasing allowable transfers to criminal court, or doing away with some of the discretion protections of juvenile court. One would think road salt would help them during the winter to reduce slippery conditions, but it also has a very horrid opposite effect. The Connecticut D.O.T. needs to start putting rust inhibitors back into the road salt. The state uses magnesium chloride to de ice the roads, which is especially corrosive. Rust inhibitors work by reducing corrosion by consuming some of the oxygen that that is necessary to cause rust. Some officials claim that if it gets into streams, it could lower oxygen levels, killing some fish or other aquatic animal. The rust inhibitors were taken out of road salt in CT in 2007 when wastewater treatment workers reported low oxygen levels outside the plant. Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate And Crime Rate The Disparity Between Imprisonment Rate and Crime Rate in Australia By Christopher Batho During the period of 2002 to 2014, the imprisonment rate in Australia increased while at the same time the crime rate decreased. This essay will aim to give reasons and theories as to why this apparent disparity between the rising imprisonment rate and decreasing crime rate exists. To do this, the purposes for punishment will be examined, how and why this purpose of punishment has changed over time, the sociological and criminological theories that best explain this disparity, and finally the implications on society through these criminal justice trends. From both sets of data, it can be calculated that in the period of 2002 to 2012, the imprisonment rate increased 13.5 percent yet the violent crime and property crime rates decreased 26 percent and 35 percent respectively. The question is, how is this possible? This will be answered later but now the purposes for punishment will now be studied. When a person is guilty of a crime, it is society s job to punish this person for their act. Once the person has been found guilty, they are then sentenced by a judge with a certain purpose or purposes for the punishment. The main four purposes used are retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation and incapacitation. Retribution is defined by Mani as the offender must be punished simply because the wrongful act merits condemnation and punishment. (Reference). Deterrence is based on the idea that criminal behaviour can be deterred if punishment is swift, certain, and severe enough to counter the benefits or pleasure gained from committing crime. They experience sex typing from a young age being pushed to study more feminine occupations, such as nursing. While on the other hand men are encouraged to seek positions of power and leadership. If a woman decides to choose an occupation that demands the use of intellectual thinking, they are given boundaries to which they are limited.
