The Dropped Sales Of Cereal
The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making All In
One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the consumption of
cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the reason
is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of
breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As it
mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post,
concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend
(Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products
nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies
believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the
article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they
have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time
(Mitchell, 2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to another breakfast not because
they don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it and clean up. Thus, when my All

After the sprint period is finished there will be a retrospective to review what went well, what should be

How to Go Green While in College Essay
Millions of young adults leave to go to college every year. Many responsibilities come with living
without one s parents for the first time. One responsibility is taking care of the Earth. Since there are no
parents in college to tell one to recycle, buy organic items, unplug appliances when they are not being
used, and many more, many college students forget to do these simple things. Students go to college to
start a new life for them, going green is a great way to do that. When a car breaks down, one can buy
another. We cannot but another planet Earth, so everyone must do their part to take care of it. There are
several ways to take care of the Earth, each are equally important. Recycling can be done is many
different ways. Paper is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When living in a dorm, one has unlimited amounts of hot water. This can make is very easy for one to
take long showers. Just because one has this privilege, does not mean one should take advantage of it. A
good way to time one s shower is to listen to a CD. After a certain track, one can turn off the water. This
help save thousands of gallons a year.
Aluminum is also very easy to recycle. Aluminum is the most recycled item in The United States, but
we need to do more (Earth 911).Americans use more than 80,000,000,000 aluminum cans a year (Earth
911). Recycling just one can, saves enough energy to run a television for three hours (Earth 911)! There
is also no limit as to how many times aluminum can be recycled (Earth 911). Recycling one pound of
steel can power a sixty watt light bulb for over a day (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency). It only
takes about sixty days for aluminum cans to be recycled and back on store shelves (Earth 911). If not
recycled, it takes an aluminum can over 500 years to decompose (Earth 911).
Another great way to recycle is to recycle plastic bags. California, New York, Rhode Island, and
Delaware; five cities Tucson, Chicago, New York City, San Juan Capistrano, California and Red Bank,
New Jersey; and five counties in New York Albany, Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester have
mandatory plastic bag recycling laws (Earth 911). San Francisco and San Jose have

Deception And Trickery, Often Seen In Real Life, Is A Concept
Deception and trickery, often seen in real life, is a concept well portrayed in William Shakespeare s
Hamlet. In the play, as the conflict develops, Hamlet, King Claudius, and Ophelia, all use deception to
achieve their goals. Hamlet, being the main character, has many instances of deceit. He starts out by
feigning madness, then puts on a play to find out if the king killed his father, and finally switches out
papers, sending Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to their deaths. Hamlet meets with his dead father s ghost
and learns that Claudius killed the deceased king. Upon learning this, Hamlet says, How strange or odd
some er I bear myself (As I perchance hereafter shall think meet/ To put an antic disposition on)
(1.5.190 192). Here, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play, Hamlet uses deceit and trickery to gain an advantage and achieve his goals.
Slightly differently, Polonius utilizes Ophelia in an attempt to deceive Hamlet. In trying to understand
what Hamlet is up to, Polonius makes Ophelia lie to Hamlet. Polonius says, Gracious, so please you/ we
will bestow ourselves. (to Ophelia) Read on this book/ That show of such an exercise may colour/ Show
your lonliness (3.1.43 46). Polonius wants Ophelia to find out what Hamlet is doing while he and the
king eavesdrop. Because Ophelia is required to listen to Polonius, she blatantly lies to Hamlet in their
ensuing conversation. Hamlet and Ophelia talk saying,
HAMLET. . . . Where s your father?
OPHELIA. At home, my lord.
HAMLET. Let the doors be shut upon him, that he may play the fool no where but in s own house.
Farewell. (3.1.141 144)
Through this conversation, Ophelia is forced to deceive Hamlet. However, Hamlet is not fooled. He
knows something is up and doesn t disclose any pertinent information. In a way, this could really be
considered Polonius s deception because he is the one really in control, not Ophelia. Either way, these
deceptions are important in building conflict, contributing to the need for a resolution. Lastly, King
Claudius uses deceit often throughout the play. The conflict of the story actually starts, or is caused by,
King Claudius. The Ghost of the

Sustainable Development Within A Business
Sustainable development in a business, although a widely used phrase and idea, has many different
meanings and therefore provokes many different responses. Although managing the economic bottom
line and protecting social and environment resources is an important aspect of sustainability, it is not the
only aspect. For example, sustainability refers greatly to an accounting framework with three parts:
social, environment and financial. Commonly known as the Triple Bottom Line. One business that aims
to achieve this concept is Cascade Engineering. The CEO, Mark Miller (2014) considers the concept of
sustainability as the three interconnected gears in motion . Each category is an interdependent,
innovation enabling mechanism. Sustainability has been an often mentioned goal of business, non
profits and governments in the past decade, yet measuring the degree to which an organization is being
sustainable or pursuing sustainable growth can be difficult. In broad terms, sustainable development is
an attempt to combine growing concerns about a range of environmental issues with socio economic
issues.
The widespread rise of interest in, and support for, the concept of sustainable development is potentially
an important shift in understanding relationships of humanity with nature between people. It is in
contrast to the dominant outlook of the last couple of hundred years, especially in the North , that has
been based on the view of the separation of the environment from

Comparing The Lost Boys, Dracula and Peter-Pan Essay
Common threads in The Lost Boys, Dracula and Peter Pan
In The Lost Boys there are similar occurrences and references to both of the novel Dracula, by Bram
Stoker and Peter Pan, by Sir James Barrie. There are many similarities between the three story lines. In
the stories of all three works there is a common thread of story it all started with Dracula.
The story of Dracula has many components of it used in the film The Lost Boys. The comparison s
begin with the vampire. Dracula is centered around the main vampire, Dracula. Dracula has many
powers and ways he can alter reality. In the novel Bram Stoker s Dracula we see that there is a power

First he must take her blood, and secondly she must take his blood to make her a vampire.
Dracula is near immortality (he cannot die from the passage of time or from disease). Dracula has
survived for century s, and there was only one way he could die. The only way he can be killed is to
have a stake driven through his heart, then have his head severed. Dracula has the ability to grow
younger by drinking blood. His feeding upon the living keeps him alive or in his case Undead. The
blood gives him his youth in the blood is life!
Dracula casts no shadow. He is not living and manipulates the light. The light seems to pass right
through him. Or another way to look at this would be as Francis Ford Coppola viewed it: He felt that
Dracula had a shadow by some means. Dracula s shadow moved as though he could will the light to do
his bidding, or does it go further than that is the shadow a darker side of Dracula? The shadow tries to
strangle Jonathan Harker while Dracula stands here.
Dracula casts no reflection. The first time that we have a notion that he does not like mirrors is when
Jonathan Harker makes the statement there is not a single mirror in the entire castle . The most
memorable mirror scene is when Dracula comes to see Jonathan he(Dracula) is exposed to mirror and he
become enraged when he sees it. Dracula takes it and throws it into the courtyard below and it shatters
on the rocks below.
Dracula has the ability to crawl along walls. One night

1 Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
India like all the developing countries is faced with sustaining its rapid economic growth while dealing
with global threat of climate change. A warming trend is projected for all the four regions under focus
by INCCA. It is indicated that the annual mean surface air temperature may rise from 1.7°C to 2°C by
2030 s. To counter that reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency are recurring themes in
India s development philosophy which reflects in our policies, missions/ programmes at national, state
and local level.
Rapidly increasing energy demand and growing concern about economic and environmental
consequences call for effective and thorough energy governance in India. (Ahn Gracyzk, 2012)
To understand the dynamics of the energy policy framework governing India s energy sector, it is
essential to comprehend the policy objectives and context in

High Rates Of Adverse Neonatal Outcomes
Abstract
Background: High rates of adverse neonatal outcomes have been reported among women with HIV. In
high income countries, small for gestational age (SGA) and pre term birth (PTB) are among the most
prevalent of these outcomes and have been variously associated with antiretroviral treatment,
ethnicity/race, psychosocial risk and lack of prenatal care. While evidence demonstrates that both
medical and social factors contribute to LBW and PTD, risk factors for HIV positive women in Ottawa,
Canada, have not been well described.
Objective: To estimate the proportion and risk factors of SGA and PTB outcomes and characterize
temporal trends among HIV positive women giving birth at an urban hospital in Ottawa, Canada.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study reviewed all cases of pregnant women with HIV receiving
prenatal care and/or giving birth at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) between June 1990 and July 2010. Data
were collected on socio demographics, medical history, and adverse obstetric outcomes. Univariable
logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with small for gestational age (90% health
insurance coverage in our cohort, which provides for HIV and obstetrical care, and prenatal programs in
Ottawa.

William Blake Poetry Analysis
In general, there are various forms of literature, whom many historical authors and analysts throughout
the decades have the chance to demonstrate their freedom of expression, and as well as using their
imagination to conduct dramatic plots with compelling characters. In particular, there is one specific
literary form that expresses the author s mood, tone and profound messages, in a way that is rhythmic,
allegorical and visually creative pertaining to the human senses. In this case, the form of poetry matches
with the mentioned criteria, from its promising structural styles, such as limericks and haikus, as well as
its repetitive alliteration that attracts readers to recite the poems, in an emotional manner. It is a fact that
poetry is also used to enhance the author s theme, according to many descriptive literary techniques,
such as similes, personification and symbolism. In particular, the theme of love can be portrayed in
various meanings and visual representations, according to each author s contrasting perspective.
Specifically, there are three poems that briefly describe three perceptions of love, whether it can be
prominent in regards to the loss of virginity, the appreciation of idealistic beauty, or the wrathful feelings
towards infinite sexual desire.
Firstly, the poem called The Sick Rose discusses the subject of love, referring to the allegorical figures
that William Blake explains in this composition. With the use of personification and symbolism

The Movie Franchise Star Wars
The movie franchise star wars has been around for over fifty years. It s a classic drama series about dark
and light forces trying to get the best of one another. The Jedi and the Sith are both factions which use
the essences of the universe in order to obtain their special abilities that they use to their advantage. The
force is split between the Jedi who represent the light force, and the Sith who represent the dark force.
So which of the two, light or dark, is the better as seen in the star wars storylines. The Jedi seem to have
the upper hand and here are some reasons why. The Jedi and Sith both use Lightsabers(Short swords
made with laser energy) when fighting enemies or dueling with one another. They give them both huge
advantages in battle, because they can use the force to detect where things will be before they happen.
When they are attacked with a blaster or lightsaber, the laser it is deflected off of the blade. This also
makes for some really spectacular duels between the two.
So which of the two has the better lightsaber? Lightsabers are formed from special crystals which the
Jedi or Sith have to meditate on for weeks on end until it can form a blade. The Sith made the their
sabers with synthetic crystals that they had to put into a furnace whereas the Jedi used a special natural
growing crystal found on Dantooine, Ilum, or the Adega System. When the blades are finally
constructed, they have a certain color which corresponds to their personality. The Sith

What Is The Tone Of The Poem Digging
Digging: The poem digging is about the role in family and legacy and how sometime these things
change. When one digs it is either to bring something up that has been buried or to bury something. The
author of the poem watches his father toil in the field like his grand father did before. However, the man
does not fulfill this legacy, rather he sits inside holding a pen instead of a spade. With this said, he
describes himself as digging with a pen. In his youth he brought milk to his grandfather and watched in
amazement at the grandfather s hard work. The poem s tone is set to describe a mellow yet rough
environment. The milk bottle he brings to his grandfather is covered in a sloppy piece of paper. In

Comparing Media Images Of Criminological Research Essay
iii. Comparing Media Images to Criminological Research
The superhero genre is so popular and influential that many studies have been done on its depictions of
the groups and the impact it has on a large part of society how it has become a staple on film, television,
and in video games (Darowski). The genre is so influential in fact, that it dates back all the way to the
Ancient Greeks, and possibly even further (Haynes). Every group in history has had their mythologies
and epic tales of crime fighters, they just did not call them superheroes. For example, Achilles only had
one weakness (his heel) and was by the Greeks definition, considered a hero (greek gods.org). The same
goes for heroes like Perseus, Theseus, and even Heracles. Back then though instead of being changed
into a super soldier in a lab by a German scientist or creating a flying metal suit in the desert, these
heroes were part god which explained their extra ordinary abilities. Super crime fighters have always
existed, but when comic books began in the 19th century a new set of rules was created to guide their
content to be more appropriate than the Greek tales (Coville).
The Comics Code was a list of regulations regarding the depiction of certain events in comic books
maintained by the Comics Magazine Association of America (Nyberg). The code was very strict and
eventually challenged by Stan Lee (one of the creators of Marvel) through a story arc in the Spiderman
Comics that dealt with drug abuse.

As a result, Malaysian will have more exposure to its product. The demand for its luxury timepiece will
increase as it is very appealing to the higher income group in Malaysia. There is a higher chances of
them buying it because it is the first solar functioned and GPS watch. The increase of demand in Seiko s
timepiece will diminish the sales of existing watch retailers. On the other hand, the increased demand
for Seiko watches may not be a threat to the local watch industry owing to the fact that Astron watches
cost an arm and a leg. Astron watches are priced between USD 1,825 to USD 3,300, which will be RM
7300 to RM 13,250 after converting into Malaysia Ringgit. With such high prices, not many can afford
to purchase a Astron watch. As a results, Malaysian may prefer cheaper watch brand such as Casio,
Swatch or other average priced watches. Thus, watch industry should be aware of the changes in their
surrounding because it signifies an alternative in either making a profit or losing it.

Subclinical Hypothyroidism In Mammals
The thyroid gland is prone to several distinct problems, some of which are extremely common. These
problems can be broken down into those concerning the production of hormone (too much, or too little),
those due to increased growth of the thyroid, causing compression of important neck structures or
simply appearing as a mass in the neck[1]. Subclinical hypothyroidism is diagnosed when person has:
No symptoms or mild symptoms of hypothyroidism, a mildly high thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
level, and a normal thyroxine (T4) level[2]. Subclinical hyperthyroidism is defined by low or

First, the important thing different between Riyadh and Greensboro is size. Riyadh is a big city and
population number was increasing every year. As a result, the Traffic sign sure will happen. In addition,
the distance between North and South is very long. For example, my home is in the north and my

anxiety only over social situations (such as public speaking, parties, going to school or work, etc.) are
the two most common. Despite the fact that they are often viewed as very different diagnosis, GAD and
SAD have very similar symptoms, treatments, and affect near the same amount and type of people.
Because GAD is a mental disorder and affects your brain, which controls everything you do, it does
have some physical symptoms. These can include restlessness, a faster than average heartbeat, muscle
tension, and lightheadedness. Often times, somebody with GAD will have a lack of sleep because they
are worrying over the next day, and thinking over the possible negative outcomes. This keeps the brain
awake , not allowing much sleep. GAD can also cause bad dreams, that could wake somebody up. A fast
heartbeat is caused by the constant worry, where the brain sends signals to

Trends Principles Of The Counseling Profession
MHS 6006: Trends Principles of the Counseling Profession
Self reflection
To be honest, before my first counseling session I thought that counseling would be easier that what it
was; nonetheless, I learned very quickly otherwise. I believed that because I am an educator and
encounter similar situations that may require particular skills such as encouraging, empathy, questioning
and observation that I was going to have an advantage over acquiring and applying the rest of the skills
needed for a complete counseling session. Hence, I went into the first session with an authoritative and
even judgmental attitude towards my client; which I now regret. At the moment I intertwined my teacher
and counselor personas and I should not have done this. If I had been the astute and objective counselor,
I would have had appreciated every second of the first session to build rapport and trust. Instead, I
lectured the student about the school rules and how to avoid getting in trouble. Therefore, I ended up
spending some of session two reconstructing what should have been done to properly serve the client
and focus on the main concern without imposing my wishes or prejudicial thoughts into the matter.
Simple interviewing based on open and closed questioning with a bit of self disclosure allowed me the
opportunity to understand my client from their perspective, where and why her problem stemmed from,
and to formulate a few possible solutions that I wished for her to arrive to with my

My Grandparents Speech
Many people only have the privilege of seeing their grandparents on birthdays and other holidays.
Luckily for me, I see mine almost every week. My grandparents, specifically my mom s parents, have
both played a large role in shaping me into the person I am today. My grandpa, or Pa , especially, has
been more of a father to me than my own. He has held an essential role in my life, and is continually
shaping me each day. My grandpa is a strong willed and old fashioned man. He likes to do things his
way. In addition, he always works hard and provides for his family. Throughout the course of my rather
short life, my grandpa has taught me many lessons. Here are three stories that stick out to me the most.
They taught me to be adventurous, to work hard, and to get back up after failure. The whole family was
there, as my grandpa decided to make a big purchase. He was buying a 2005 Chevy SSR convertible,
and five year old me was ecstatic. After a long night of waiting for all the details to be worked out, the
car was his. Me, being the bratty kid I was, jumped in and said, I get the first ride! On my first ride, I
remember the roar of the engine. That sounds like kitties purring. I said. My grandpa laughed and said,
You are right. Those are kitties! I exclaimed, Well then make those kitties purr! He laughed and revved
the engine as I stuck my hands out into the wind, laughing and yelling as I did so. The fun continued as
we continued to laugh and yelled, Faster!

Essay on The Truth Behind Music and Television
How many hours, on average, do young adults spend listening to music and watching television? For
music, young adults spend about two and a half hours listening throughout the day. Music is merely
organized sound that is meaningful and designed to entertain the audience listening. Music and
television are more than just relaxing activities to spend extra time but can affect the psychological and
developmental process of young adults. It may help young adults get their feelings across easily, but it
does more harm than good. Parents and even experts know and have proven that listening to certain
types of music and watching too much television are corrupting the minds of young adults. For toddlers

favorite kind of music is a way for them to express themselves. People try to find something in every

makes them feel. The reason young adults listen to music is to connect with it and to articulate their
feelings in ways that they would not be able to do through their actions. The lyrics rapped by the artists
can be things going on in their own personal lives (Mariam). Even the artist is using music to express

Based on a true story, Blow tells the story of the main character George Jung. George became one of the
largest if not the largest cocaine trafficker in the United States, because of the trafficking of Pablo
Escobar`s cocaine, it changed the face of America in the 1970s. Being business partners with Pablo
Escobar, George was never in short supply of the cocaine he was trafficking. As I watched the movie
and observed George`s addictive behavior, I realized that it started as a child and the first obsession

George s manifestation of the disease of money and power was visible through his addiction to cocaine
and drugs, the drugs and drinking were just a symptom of George s disease. George was married and as
a result of his chemical addiction and way of life a baby girl was a direct result of that marriage,
according to George in the movie; it was the birth of his baby girl that would change George s life.
Gorge now wanted to clean up his life, stop trafficking cocaine and take care of his family, as fate and
the lifestyle would have it George went back to prison for having one last party put on by his wife, in
which all the current drug dealers were invited. Gorge`s release from prison put George into an area that
he was not used to, George had no money and George was broke. George made a promise to his
daughter earlier that he would never leave her but after going back to prison he broke the trust he once
had with her, after his release he spent a great deal of his time trying to amend that trust and build his
relationship back with his daughter. However, this was to no avail because George relapsed, George did
not relapsed to the chemical addiction but to the addition of inappropriate behavior. What I have learned
from this movie is that enough is never enough, George had the wealth and the power of the underworld
however, and it was this lifestyle that brought George to the end

The Benefits Of Medical Marijuana
Many people don t know what Marijuana is, to clarify what it is, it is a dried bud, occasionally
considered cannabis with a natural dust called THC on the plant. THC is the particle that causes
reactions to the body. Another thing people at times don t comprehend correctly is that the medical use
of marijuana and the recreational use is totally different. The medical use of marijuana is recommended
by a doctor in the treatment of a medical condition such as cancers, HIV/AIDS, Epilepsy, and many
other conditions. The recreational use of marijuana is considered a misused drug; its use is for a high
that is not recommended by a doctor, so it is illegal, sold in the black market trade. Knowing medicals
marijuana purpose, it should be legalized for its medical use only for the soul purpose to help and
provide relief to the hurt and/or sick. Medical marijuana use may provide relief and/or help to many ill
people; marijuana s medical use is the new natural drug that can help with more than one problem as in
many other drugs also do. Medical marijuana is a highly used substance that has been used for millennia
and it is here to stay whether it is legal or not (Newton 137). It is told that marijuana will never truly go
away. People need to create legal ways for the sale of marijuana so it can be used as a medical herb
without the common threat of legal consequences (129). Saying that more and more countries/ states are

The Food Industry And Industrialization Of Agriculture
The corporate food industry and industrialization of agriculture today have revolutionized the growing
and buying of food for farmers and consumers. To see how it has transformed the system, one can look
at the effects industrial agriculture has caused. Economically, it creates million of jobs that keep people
employed and keeps food affordable, but has regrettably created subsidies too. In terms of health, mass
production of agriculture has created new health risks that endanger the lives of both producers and
consumers, as well as encourage bad eating. As a result, the industrialization of agriculture has both
good and bad effects because it feeds the population cost efficiently while benefiting the economy, but
risks people s health.
Economically, the corporate food industry and industrialization of agriculture has created millions of
jobs that keep people employed. With such a rapidly growing population everyday, more jobs need to be
created and more people are needed in agriculture than ever before to keep up with the demand for food.
The development of industrialized agriculture solves both of these problems by providing the jobs
people need, while meeting the demand for food. It also not only employs farmers but agriculture can
employ people like truck drivers to deliver food or factory workers to clean or process food.
Furthermore, the agricultural industry is able to beneficially hire unskilled or immigrant workers. Many
agricultural jobs are considered menial, so

Seneca Falls The First Women s Rights Convention
Seneca Falls was the first women s rights convention in the United States. The convention took place at
the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, NY, on July 19, 1848 (Seneca Falls Convention Begins). This
convention was organized by two abolitionist named Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton with the
help of Martha Wright, Mary Ann McClintock, and Jane Hunt. They posted the announcement in the
Seneca County Courier on July 14, 1848. The message said A Convention to discuss the social, civil,
and religious conditions and rights of women will be held... (American Memory). The Seneca Falls
community was open to the idea of changing public roles of women in society. So it was no surprise
when about 300 people responded to the message in the courier. The convention took place for two
days, Wednesday July 19, 1848 and Thursday July 20, 1989. During the two day period the participants
listened to multiple speeches, wrote the Declaration of Sentiments, created 11 resolutions that
proclaimed equality of all people and declared all laws/customs that subordinated women illegitimate.
The first day of the convention was exclusive to women only. Elizabeth Cady Stanton introduced the
Declaration of Sentiments. The Declaration of Sentiments was a document that was similar to the
Declaration of Independence written by Stanton, it included a list of eighteen grievances women faced
and eleven resolutions. During the first day the women read and revised the Declaration of Sentiments.

UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF HEATH RELATED SAFETY ISSUES Safety in
Healthcare What does it take to be a safe nurse? The nursing profession offers many opportunities for
error. Great challenges arise when trying to keep patients safe. Quality health care is defined by patient
safety and the fulfillment of personal needs. Society, nurses, physicians, and patients themselves are
responsible for ensuring that the operational systems and methods are taken to reduce the likelihood of
errors occurring. As a nurse, it is important to make sure that the appropriate actions are being taken to

According to Dr. Christine Williams of the American Health Foundation in Valhalla, New York; children
who have parents who smoke are more likely to smoke as well as they get bigger. Williams also states
that parents who do not want their children to smoke must quit themselves. Children learn what they
live, it s not enough for parents to say, do what I say and not what I do , Williams said. She also believes
that advertisements play a very strong role in influencing the children. (Philippine Journal, November
20, 1998) Parents are the single most important influence on their children s decision to smoke, drink, or
use drugs, yet many parents do not fully understand the extent of their influence. (Philip Morris USA,
n.d.) Kids do understand that smoking is dangerous, but many of them try it anyway out of curiosity,
low self esteem, peer pressure, the need to establish their own independent identities, and to rebel
against their parents. (Rodrigo Cuenca, M., Philippine Star, p. E 1, August 5, 2003) According to the
book, Peddling Poison: The Tobacco Industry and Kids, Many young people have the false impression
that the effect of smoking and other tobacco use are problems they will only have to face much later in

The Ethics Of The Ethical Systems
The Ethical Systems In ethics, four systems serve as different beliefs concerning our morals: Relativism
Ethics, Consequentialism Ethics, Deontological Ethics, and Virtue Ethics. These four theories attempt to
define what right and wrong should be and how one should handle any situation. There are many
strengths and weaknesses of each view. The goal is to determine which theory is the best by exploring
real world situations and questioning the claims that just don t work out.
RELATIVISM ETHICS
There are two different types of relativistic views: Cultural Relativism and Subjectivism. Cultural
Relativism is the belief that culture defines what is right and wrong. Subjectivism is the belief that the
individual person decides what is right and wrong. Many pros and cons exist with an overall relativistic
view. First, the positive: Someone with this view will obviously be very tolerant and is not likely to
discriminate against a different culture or person. Also, morality depends on a social experience, instead
of being derived from a higher being, morality is derived from the surrounding people. It is good to
know the diversity and experience the many aspects of the world. Although this might sound like a
perfect world for everyone to be tolerant and understanding of one another, there are many flaws to this
theory. One flaw is that with this way of thinking, justice cannot exist. If someone committed murder,
they cannot be punished because they believe murder is right, which

Analysis Of Miss Lonelyhearts And The Day Of The Locust
In Miss Lonelyhearts and The Day of the Locust, each character experiences suffering, and in each case
the suffering is ridiculed. Schadenfreude is a basic human experience; human beings do find humor in
other s misfortune. Society is so accustomed to the feeling of schadenfreude that hardly anyone knows
exactly where it comes from or how distasteful it is. Society feeds schadenfreude of physical pain by
letting it reside throughout comedy. Almost every comedic movie, show, song, sketch or any other form
of entertainment is cluttered with people being hurt. Harry Greener s clown show in The Day of the
Locust is completely centered around his pain. When he stands up, the audience, which failed to laugh at
his joke, laughs at his limp, so he continues lame for the rest of the act, (West, The Day 78). The entire
comedy genre thrives off of schadenfreude. Perhaps this is because the audience knows that the subject
is not truly hurt, so it becomes funny to see people such as Curly, Moe, and Larry beat each other.
Perhaps it is because people use laughter as a shield against pain. When people see pain they laugh to
make it seem that it did not actually hurt. It is a product of empathy for him who was hurt. Laughter
serves to camouflage embarrassment which is included in empathy. The ways in which characters
receive injuries are usually embarrassing, and the audience feels the embarrassment causing them to
laugh.
Schadenfreude is embedded in human emotions such as envy,

Rafael Trujillo s dictatorship lasted for nearly 30 years. His reign brought destruction and death to many
people living in the Dominican Republic as well as its neighbor Haiti. In the Time of the Butterflies by
Julia Alvarez depicts the story of the mirabal sisters who were living during the time of Trujillo s

future (10). This foreshadows her future which is that she will be the only member of her family that

2. What was the purpose of cyclohexane in this practical?
Halogens are not very soluble in water because they are non polar, but are soluble in cyclohexane. Using
solvent extraction with cyclohexane, halogens can be separated from the halide ions allowing them to be
easily identified.
Conclusions The general reactivity of halogens and their ability to form ionic compounds decreases
down the group. This is influenced by increased size, electronegativity, and nuclear charge; therefore the
ease with which electrons are accepted to form an ion also decreases. As observed from the results of the
experiment, the reactivity orders of the Halogens are; F2 Cl2 Br2 I2

Right to Believe in God
Do we have the right to believe in God? Are we rational in believing in God? In this essay I will attempt
to answer these two connected questions. In order to do this, I will first discuss the concept of
evidentialism, which criticizes or even condemns the belief in God. Then, I will try to criticize
evidentialism in the spirit of William James attack on it. Finally, I hope to provide some answers to the
two questions posed above.
Evidentialism holds that one should believe only that for which one has sufficient evidence. To put it in
W.K. Clifford s words, it is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone to believe anything upon
insufficient evidence. Bertrand Russell defended a similar position with his true precept of veracity that
goes as follows: We ought to give to every proposition which we consider as nearly as possible that
degree of credence which is warranted by the probability it acquires from the evidence known to us.
Evidentialism has permeated itself not only in philosophical inquiry but also in the public domain. In
fact, evidentialism is one of the most common tools used to criticize religion. Bertrand Russell, upon
being asked about what he would say if after death he were to be brought to God, said: Not enough
evidence God! Not enough evidence! Evidentialists state that being warranted by evidentialist means
mostly implies being warranted by the senses. In the modern Western culture influenced by
evidentialism, a reasonable theory must be

Singer Theme
Being raised by a rabbi in a large Jewish neighborhood, Isaac Bashevis Singer uses Jewish beliefs and
themes as the focal point in almost all of his works. As Singer retells many childhood stories in his
memoir In My Father s Court, the idea and motif of forgiveness is constantly used as he witnesses his
father perform many arbitrations. Singer also uses forgiveness as a central theme in his later adult work,
as seen in his short story A Crown of Feathers ; though it is evident through the story that his view on
forgiveness had changed as he grew older. While Singer has retained the theme of forgiveness in his
work, it has matured and darkened as a result of his life experiences. As the son of a rabbi, Singer was
able to see firsthand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through The Purim Gift and To Warsaw, Singer shows how he saw forgiveness as a simple means to a
happy ending. However, as he grew into an adult and the world around him drastically changed, Singer
realized that his beliefs were not as simple as he thought as a child and that there is much more inner
turmoil present needed for forgiveness. This realization came with growing up in a conflict ridden
Europe that culminated in the Holocaust. Singer s perception of forgiveness evolved not only due to
simply growing up, but also possibly because of the Holocaust and its effect on other Jews, as he was
able to avoid it. Singer s relationship with forgiveness shows the complexity of both faith and emotion
and how childhood innocence is

Sexism In Social Media
As girls grow into their teenage years, the media continues to play a significant role in their
development. The role sexism plays in young girls lives affects them in many ways. When sexism is
mentioned, which gender comes to mind first? Society seems to have attached the sexism issue on
females exclusively. The topic of sexism occurs in indirect and direct ways in all types of media. Sexual
discrimination will continue to exist l if nobody attempts to end it. Sexism leads to downgrading women
and men s capability. Insecurities and violence are a leading result of sexism. Sexism continues to exist
as evidenced by advertisements, social media, and in relationships.

The State Of New Mexico Essay
The state of New Mexico defines murder in the first degree as the killing of one person by another
without a lawful justification or excuse. Any action resulting in death, which can be proven to have been
willful, deliberate and premeditated; committed during the commission or attempt to commit a felony;
or by an act so dangerous to the lives of others that it indicates a depraved mind and disregard for
human life, is a capital felony (NM Stat § 30 2 1). Currently, capital felonies are subject to a sentence of
life imprisonment, or a true life imprisonment sentence which provides no option for release or parole
(NM Stat § 31 18 14). However, from 1979 to 2009, New Mexico carried a harsher set of punishments
for first degree murder; life in prison with the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.
Terry Clark was the only prisoner on death row to be executed before the penalty repeal in 2009. In
1987, a jury found Clark guilty after hearing gruesome testimony that he abducted, raped, and shot his
young victim three times in the head before he buried her body in a shallow grave on his brother s ranch.
Unsurprisingly, Clark filed an appeal with the New Mexico Supreme Court after the lower court s ruling
and sentencing. In State v. Clark, 772 P.2d 322 (1989), the court carefully considered Clarks many
claims of trial misconduct.
Clark originally entered a guilty plea after his defense counsel informed him that his death sentence
might be commuted by then governor, Toney

Martin Luther Reformer As A Reformer
2. Martin Luther is without a doubt the most influential figure during the Reformation. He was born in
Eisleben Germany where his father, Hans, was a smelter master. Hans s occupation allowed Martin to
obtain an education, which very few were able to achieve during this time in history. In school Luther
was able to learn Latin while continuing his education. While in school, a teacher noticed his talents and
introduced Luther to Latin classics and history. This had a lasting impression on Luther and would be
the foundation to what would lead to his later works in life. Luther s father wanted his son to become a
lawyer to improve their family status, therefore later Luther attended the University of Erfurt. While
attending the University of Erfurt, Luther was presented with the idea of humanism, which was
recovering the ideas from ancient sources. This idea of humanism was the central point for Luther s
works during the Reformation. Luther s first true steps to becoming a reformer was following an
incident returning to Erfurt, when he had an epiphany and decide then and there to become a monk.
Within the monastery Luther attempted to be perfect to receive God s grace. After becoming a professor
in Wittenberg, he visited Rome and it was here where Luther had discovered the corruption of the
papacy. Luther discovered from his work in scripture that the Catholic Church was restricting their
followers of faith from understanding the true meaning of the scriptures. However, the

Shakespeare Is a Fraud
SHAKESPEARE IS A FRAUD
January 25th 2012
Shakespeare is a Fraud One cannot write thirty six plays, one hundred and fifty four sonnets and two
long narrative poems if they were ordinary. But unbelievably, William Shakespeare did just that from
1564 1616. People have questioning how Shakespeare achieved writing such great pieces of literature,
when the behind the scenes story does not add up. There are no records to prove he wrote anything and
there is proof someone else did what he took credit for. In my opinion, Macbeth and Titus Andronicus,
two of Shakespeare s plays are strong examples of pieces of literature that was not actually created by
Shakespeare. I believe William Shakespeare, the man with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout twelve different plays, Shakespeare has twelve different signatures (Ten reasons). In
addition writing from the heart. Shakespeare pour s his heart out throughout his sonnets, but never once
mentions the death of his eleven year old son, whereas Ben Johnson wrote an amazing and beautiful
poem when his son died (Ten reasons). This suggests the man who is writing these plays is not the real
Shakespeare because he never mentioned his son s tragic death in his work and had inconsistent
handwriting.
Lastly, The director of Anonymous states that there are no educational records or any other records
connecting to Shakespeare. It is nearly impossible to gain the amount of knowledge Shakespeare had
with out going to school. There are no records to prove that Shakespeare ever attended the Stratford
grammar school, yet the work of who really wrote these plays shows extensive knowledge about
medicine, astronomy, art, music, military, law, philosophy, and activities such as royal tennis and
falconry (Ten reason). It is unbelievable for one to know all that without even a trace of school. This
suggests that some one else wrote the plays because Shakespeare does not have the education and
knowledge to do so. Likewise, it is strange how one knows so much about foreign countries without
ever leaving their country. Shakespeare s records show that he has never left

Liberia
Liberia is unlikely most Sub Saharan countries, because Liberia has always been what is called a free or
independent country. Liberia was created in 1822 by America for Free African American Slaves. Liberia
quickly became a republic by 1847 with the helping hand of American Politics. While Liberia was not
colonized in the traditional sense. Liberia still displayed some problems that traditionally colonized
countries suffered from. Liberia suffered the mirroring image problem, the two publics problem, and
corruption.
Liberia, like many French and British colonies, wanted to mirror the white republic and be the black
republic. Essentially Liberia wanted to be the Black United States of America. This is what some
historians call the African Bourgeois point of view. Citizens of Liberia where previously freed American
Slaves, this means that they had already lost some of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two publics in African politics is what makes Africa even more difficult to understand when it
comes down to politics. One public is the primordial public is tends to be sentiment. The other public is
the civic public which is based off of colonial rule. Liberians keep their personal belief system, but will
often engage in immoral actions for the people.
Finally, Liberia has suffered the cost of African Bourgeois and the two publics with corruption. Liberia
has not always been on the up and up as it seems to be doing at this point. Liberia was once very corrupt
with Charles Taylor running the country, it is no wonder the country suffered.
Regardless to the colonial legacies that lay on the door of Liberia, the country has started to heal from
the legacies. While Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has only been the first president since Charles Taylor, it may
still be a long shot until Sirleaf hands over the keys, but for the moment corruption is decreasing and
colonial legacy may be a thing of the

Flatland Social Structure
The social structure of Flatland is similar to the structure of the 1800s, when Abbott wrote the book. The
males in Flatland are shapes composed of multiple sides, while the females are only straight lines. The
greater number of sides each figure has, the higher their status is. This concept is quite similar to this
time in Britian, where social casts and classes were relevant. Another common theme in Flatland and in
the 1800s is that members of the classes wanted to rank up and become something greater. Flatland is
written in first person, by A Square. This gives the overall novel a tone of closeness. We are hearing the
events from a source that experienced and witnessed the events contained in the novel, which gives
readers a better understanding of what happened. A Square is somewhere in the middle of the class
ranks. He s not a member of the lowest or highest social classes. This helps him to understand all the
different viewpoints and perspectives in Flatland. By being in the middle class, he isn t too biased
towards one side or the other.
The social issues and classes are obviously one of the main themes of the novel, but it is necessary to
note the importance of the two dimensional essence of Flatland. Throughout the book, Abbott describes
the implications of being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

belief in the gospel of three dimensions . Unfortuanately for Square, nobody in Flatland is willing to
accept this absurd and totally new idea of a third dimension. People in Flatland aren t willing to accept it
for fear of destroying their social

  • 2. The Dropped Sales Of Cereal The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making All In One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the consumption of cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As it mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post, concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time (Mitchell, 2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to another breakfast not because they don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it and clean up. Thus, when my All In One product get introduced in the market, we will have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. How to Go Green While in College Essay Millions of young adults leave to go to college every year. Many responsibilities come with living without one s parents for the first time. One responsibility is taking care of the Earth. In the play, as the conflict develops, Hamlet, King Claudius, and Ophelia, all use deception to achieve their goals. Hamlet, being the main character, has many instances of deceit. He starts out by feigning madness, then puts on a play to find out if the king killed his father, and finally switches out papers, sending Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to their deaths. Sustainable Development Within A Business Sustainable development in a business, although a widely used phrase and idea, has many different meanings and therefore provokes many different responses. Although managing the economic bottom line and protecting social and environment resources is an important aspect of sustainability, it is not the only aspect. For example, sustainability refers greatly to an accounting framework with three parts: social, environment and financial. Commonly known as the Triple Bottom Line. One business that aims to achieve this concept is Cascade Engineering. The CEO, Mark Miller (2014) considers the concept of sustainability as the three interconnected gears in motion . Each category is an interdependent, innovation enabling mechanism. Sustainability has been an often mentioned goal of business, non profits and governments in the past decade, yet measuring the degree to which an organization is being sustainable or pursuing sustainable growth can be difficult. In broad terms, sustainable development is an attempt to combine growing concerns about a range of environmental issues with socio economic issues. The widespread rise of interest in, and support for, the concept of sustainable development is potentially an important shift in understanding relationships of humanity with nature between people. The force is split between the Jedi who represent the light force, and the Sith who represent the dark force. So which of the two, light or dark, is the better as seen in the star wars storylines. The Jedi seem to have the upper hand and here are some reasons why. The Jedi and Sith both use Lightsabers(Short swords made with laser energy) when fighting enemies or dueling with one another. They give them both huge advantages in battle, because they can use the force to detect where things will be before they happen. When they are attacked with a blaster or lightsaber, the laser it is deflected off of the blade. This also makes for some really spectacular duels between the two. So which of the two has the better lightsaber? Lightsabers are formed from special crystals which the Jedi or Sith have to meditate on for weeks on end until it can form a blade. The Sith made the their sabers with synthetic crystals that they had to put into a furnace whereas the Jedi used a special natural growing crystal found on Dantooine, Ilum, or the Adega System. Comparing Media Images to Criminological Research The superhero genre is so popular and influential that many studies have been done on its depictions of the groups and the impact it has on a large part of society how it has become a staple on film, television, and in video games (Darowski). The genre is so influential in fact, that it dates back all the way to the Ancient Greeks, and possibly even further (Haynes). Every group in history has had their mythologies and epic tales of crime fighters, they just did not call them superheroes. For example, Achilles only had one weakness (his heel) and was by the Greeks definition, considered a hero (greek gods.org). The same goes for heroes like Perseus, Theseus, and even Heracles. Back then though instead of being changed into a super soldier in a lab by a German scientist or creating a flying metal suit in the desert, these heroes were part god which explained their extra ordinary abilities. Super crime fighters have always existed, but when comic books began in the 19th century a new set of rules was created to guide their content to be more appropriate than the Greek tales (Coville). The Comics Code was a list of regulations regarding the depiction of certain events in comic books maintained by the Comics Magazine Association of America (Nyberg). The code was very strict and eventually challenged by Stan Lee (one of the creators of Marvel) through a story arc in the Spiderman Comics that dealt with drug abuse. ... In terms of health, mass production of agriculture has created new health risks that endanger the lives of both producers and consumers, as well as encourage bad eating. The Ethics Of The Ethical Systems The Ethical Systems In ethics, four systems serve as different beliefs concerning our morals: Relativism Ethics, Consequentialism Ethics, Deontological Ethics, and Virtue Ethics. These four theories attempt to define what right and wrong should be and how one should handle any situation. There are many strengths and weaknesses of each view. The goal is to determine which theory is the best by exploring real world situations and questioning the claims that just don t work out. RELATIVISM ETHICS There are two different types of relativistic views: Cultural Relativism and Subjectivism. Cultural Relativism is the belief that culture defines what is right and wrong. Subjectivism is the belief that the individual person decides what is right and wrong. Many pros and cons exist with an overall relativistic view. First, the positive: Someone with this view will obviously be very tolerant and is not likely to discriminate against a different culture or person. Also, morality depends on a social experience, instead of being derived from a higher being, morality is derived from the surrounding people. Schadenfreude is a basic human experience; human beings do find humor in other s misfortune. Society is so accustomed to the feeling of schadenfreude that hardly anyone knows exactly where it comes from or how distasteful it is. Society feeds schadenfreude of physical pain by letting it reside throughout comedy. Almost every comedic movie, show, song, sketch or any other form of entertainment is cluttered with people being hurt. Harry Greener s clown show in The Day of the Locust is completely centered around his pain. When he stands up, the audience, which failed to laugh at his joke, laughs at his limp, so he continues lame for the rest of the act, (West, The Day 78). The entire comedy genre thrives off of schadenfreude. Perhaps this is because the audience knows that the subject is not truly hurt, so it becomes funny to see people such as Curly, Moe, and Larry beat each other. Perhaps it is because people use laughter as a shield against pain. When people see pain they laugh to make it seem that it did not actually hurt. It is a product of empathy for him who was hurt. Laughter serves to camouflage embarrassment which is included in empathy. The ways in which characters receive injuries are usually embarrassing, and the audience feels the embarrassment causing them to laugh. Schadenfreude is embedded in human emotions such as envy, ... In order to do this, I will first discuss the concept of evidentialism, which criticizes or even condemns the belief in God. Then, I will try to criticize evidentialism in the spirit of William James attack on it. Finally, I hope to provide some answers to the two questions posed above. Evidentialism holds that one should believe only that for which one has sufficient evidence. To put it in W.K. Clifford s words, it is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone to believe anything upon insufficient evidence. Bertrand Russell defended a similar position with his true precept of veracity that goes as follows: We ought to give to every proposition which we consider as nearly as possible that degree of credence which is warranted by the probability it acquires from the evidence known to us. Evidentialism has permeated itself not only in philosophical inquiry but also in the public domain. In fact, evidentialism is one of the most common tools used to criticize religion. Bertrand Russell, upon being asked about what he would say if after death he were to be brought to God, said: Not enough evidence God! Not enough evidence! He was born in Eisleben Germany where his father, Hans, was a smelter master. Hans s occupation allowed Martin to obtain an education, which very few were able to achieve during this time in history. In school Luther was able to learn Latin while continuing his education. While in school, a teacher noticed his talents and introduced Luther to Latin classics and history. This had a lasting impression on Luther and would be the foundation to what would lead to his later works in life. Luther s father wanted his son to become a lawyer to improve their family status, therefore later Luther attended the University of Erfurt. While attending the University of Erfurt, Luther was presented with the idea of humanism, which was recovering the ideas from ancient sources. This idea of humanism was the central point for Luther s works during the Reformation. Luther s first true steps to becoming a reformer was following an incident returning to Erfurt, when he had an epiphany and decide then and there to become a monk. Within the monastery Luther attempted to be perfect to receive God s grace. • 51. Shakespeare Is a Fraud SHAKESPEARE IS A FRAUD January 25th 2012 Shakespeare is a Fraud One cannot write thirty six plays, one hundred and fifty four sonnets and two long narrative poems if they were ordinary. But unbelievably, William Shakespeare did just that from 1564 1616. People have questioning how Shakespeare achieved writing such great pieces of literature, when the behind the scenes story does not add up. There are no records to prove he wrote anything and there is proof someone else did what he took credit for. In my opinion, Macbeth and Titus Andronicus, two of Shakespeare s plays are strong examples of pieces of literature that was not actually created by Shakespeare. I believe William Shakespeare, the man with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout twelve different plays, Shakespeare has twelve different signatures (Ten reasons). In addition writing from the heart. Shakespeare pour s his heart out throughout his sonnets, but never once mentions the death of his eleven year old son, whereas Ben Johnson wrote an amazing and beautiful poem when his son died (Ten reasons). This suggests the man who is writing these plays is not the real Shakespeare because he never mentioned his son s tragic death in his work and had inconsistent handwriting. Lastly, The director of Anonymous states that there are no educational records or any other records connecting to Shakespeare. It is nearly impossible to gain the amount of knowledge Shakespeare had with out going to school. There are no records to prove that Shakespeare ever attended the Stratford grammar school, yet the work of who really wrote these plays shows extensive knowledge about medicine, astronomy, art, music, military, law, philosophy, and activities such as royal tennis and falconry (Ten reason). It is unbelievable for one to know all that without even a trace of school. This suggests that some one else wrote the plays because Shakespeare does not have the education and knowledge to do so. Likewise, it is strange how one knows so much about foreign countries without ever leaving their country. Shakespeare s records show that he has never left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Liberia Liberia is unlikely most Sub Saharan countries, because Liberia has always been what is called a free or independent country. Liberia was created in 1822 by America for Free African American Slaves. Liberia quickly became a republic by 1847 with the helping hand of American Politics. While Liberia was not colonized in the traditional sense. Liberia still displayed some problems that traditionally colonized countries suffered from. Liberia suffered the mirroring image problem, the two publics problem, and corruption. Liberia, like many French and British colonies, wanted to mirror the white republic and be the black republic. Essentially Liberia wanted to be the Black United States of America. This is what some historians call the African Bourgeois point of view. Citizens of Liberia where previously freed American Slaves, this means that they had already lost some of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two publics in African politics is what makes Africa even more difficult to understand when it comes down to politics. One public is the primordial public is tends to be sentiment. The other public is the civic public which is based off of colonial rule. Liberians keep their personal belief system, but will often engage in immoral actions for the people. Finally, Liberia has suffered the cost of African Bourgeois and the two publics with corruption. Liberia has not always been on the up and up as it seems to be doing at this point. Liberia was once very corrupt with Charles Taylor running the country, it is no wonder the country suffered. Regardless to the colonial legacies that lay on the door of Liberia, the country has started to heal from the legacies. While Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has only been the first president since Charles Taylor, it may still be a long shot until Sirleaf hands over the keys, but for the moment corruption is decreasing and colonial legacy may be a thing of the ... • 53. Flatland Social Structure The social structure of Flatland is similar to the structure of the 1800s, when Abbott wrote the book. The males in Flatland are shapes composed of multiple sides, while the females are only straight lines. The greater number of sides each figure has, the higher their status is. This concept is quite similar to this time in Britian, where social casts and classes were relevant. Another common theme in Flatland and in the 1800s is that members of the classes wanted to rank up and become something greater. Flatland is written in first person, by A Square. This gives the overall novel a tone of closeness. We are hearing the events from a source that experienced and witnessed the events contained in the novel, which gives readers a better understanding of what happened. A Square is somewhere in the middle of the class ranks. He s not a member of the lowest or highest social classes. This helps him to understand all the different viewpoints and perspectives in Flatland. By being in the middle class, he isn t too biased towards one side or the other. The social issues and classes are obviously one of the main themes of the novel, but it is necessary to note the importance of the two dimensional essence of Flatland. Throughout the book, Abbott describes the implications of being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sphere came from a three dimensional land. Square initially doesn t approve of the sphere. He accuses him of manipulating his ideas by informing him of this new dimension. All of Square s doubt and disbelief disappears, however, when the sphere shows him the three dimensional world that Square couldn t comprehend. This wins Square over, and when he comes back to Flatland he expresses his belief in the gospel of three dimensions . Unfortuanately for Square, nobody in Flatland is willing to accept this absurd and totally new idea of a third dimension.
