The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Song Dynasty
As just stated so did the Northern Song clan members set up a capital in Hangzhou. Instead of
Northern Song so would they now be called Southern Song. Hangzhou back then was a wealthy
trading city and the Song rulers retained their domain south of the Huai River along with most of the
population at that time. They also managed to retain big southern merchant cities and therefore a new
period of prosperity began. A priority in Southern Song was foreign trade, and the government
constructed merchant ships and improved harbor facilities. Xiamen, Quanzhou and Guangzhou were
big seaports. The Southern Song merchant ships sailed as far as India and Arabia. The trade allowed
the Southern Song empire to continue to be prosperous although they had lost a lot of their land. The
government ended up building a navy to protect the merchant shipping. Passle wheel ships were built
that were faster than regular boats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thing which made the cultural propagation fluid from dynasty to dynasty was that the Chinese
mpires had a common written language for 2000 years. no matter what they spoke so would they be
able to read texts. Therefore by requiring candidates for official positions to pass exams by testing
their knowledge of the Neo Confucian texts, the court would be ensured that their officials were
exceptionally intelligent and could communicate in this very difficult literary language. The
government system had of course its advantages and disadvantages. The bureaucrats for an example
studied the same works on social behavior and philosophy. That promoted unity and the normalization
of behavior through the empire and during the times of dynastic change. The scholar bureaucrats had a
common base of understanding after all and they passed on these political and philological ideals to
the people underneath them so that the whole empire could have a common philosophy of

Mcclintock Use Propaganda Techniques In Today s Advertising
In the essay Propaganda Techniques in Today s Advertising by Ann McClintock, McClintock defines
the different propaganda techniques. She explains how common the techniques are in plenty of
advertisements. Car companies applies multiple propaganda techniques to advertise their cars. In a
magazine for cars, Toyota make use of two notable techniques in an advertisement for a Toyota
Corolla. The full page ad pictures the Corolla driving along a curvy road with no guard rails that is
uplifted above clouds. The car is in the middle of the one lane on the road. The caption says, Helping
you feel safe in your lane. One of the techniques used was glittering generalities. Glittering
generalities is the use of words and phrases that have ambiguous ... Show more content on

The full page ad pictures a Volkswagen with a yellow kayak on top of the car and parked on a cliff.
Next to the car are three average people standing near the cliff s edge. All three have their backs facing
the camera and one of them is taking pictures of the mountains and the river in the distance. The
caption reads, Get in touch with a different kind of remote. The first technique noticed is glittering
generalities. The phrase, Get in touch with a different kind of remote doesn t mean anything; however,
the words provoke feelings. The words allow the intended audience to feel that the car would bring a
sense of peace in the way an isolated location would. The image of an isolated place with only three
people picture helps to reaffirm this feeling. Another technique was plain folks. This technique utilizes
people who appear average to make the ad more relatable. The people shown are dressed in average
clothing and doing things, like taking pictures and pointing at the mountains, as any normal person
would in that setting. Also, because the people s faces aren t shown, helps to reinforce the feeling of
relatability by allowing the audience to more easily imagine as if they could be the people in the

values and attitudes allows for a self reflexive investigation into peoples growth. Two significant
outcomes of my personal childhood was the value of feminism and the attitude of ambition. Valuing
feminism was an outcome of socialisation from my childhood. Socialisation occurred in the family
microsystem, the biggest influencer on a child (REF81). The method of socialisation was
observational, using the technique of modelling (Wright 2016). As an example, from ages 3 14, my
mother was a single parent, during that time she both attended university and had a full time job, being
as successful as my father. My mother socialised me to understand an equality between men and
women. My mothers parenting style was permissive, allowing for exploration

Summary Of Alison Ayers
Furthermore, root causes of conflict on the continent are often associated with internal issues or an
African problem . Alison Ayers discusses the false perception of civil war and failed states that have
been created and implemented by the West (Ayers 2012). She disputes that civil war is internally
instigated and only portrayed this way due to western representations of Africa through media. Ayers
states that these efforts are made by hegemonic powers and are ideologically and politically
convenient (Ayers 2012, 261). Her implications here suggest that these ideological subjugations render
African regions vulnerable for the use of exploitation and continuous dependency on external powers.
This becomes the norm of African perception

Handling Of Bags By Airlines Essay
Confirm your luggage and passenger information in the kiosk. Upon confirmation, the kiosk then
dispenses destination tag. Attach that luggage destination tag to each luggage. Together with the tags,
the kiosk will also dispense the boarding pass for the passenger. Step 4
Place the luggage where directed or indicated. For some airlines and in some airports, the passengers
may have to carry their luggage for a short distance up to the luggage collection area. Whereas, there
are some airlines that have stationed personnel at each kiosk to take the passengers luggage once one
complete the check in procedure (James).
The Baggage Delay Problem
Handling of bags by airlines remains a challenging aspect in the baggage handling process and this is
bound to be an issue facing Emirates. The expanding air traffic increases the stress on the airline s bag
operations, delays and consequent unexpected alterations to schedules. These can negatively affect the
airline as a whole. In a similar manner to other businesses, Emirates encounters its own set of
challenges in its operations. One of the main problems relates to the delays that passengers experience
when dropping their baggage at check in counters. Normally, this can be attributed to the long
processes and queues that arise in printing of tags and sorting out the baggage. Often, the sorting of
the bags and printing of tags that take place at the check in counter ends up creating long queues and
unnecessary delays. The delays that

Essay On The Castle
I had never been in the third tier before. It was a place that I did not belong with my coarse shirts and
riding pants, even when they were not dirt covered. It was not just the clothes, there was no illusion I
could put on myself that would make me fit in. There was something about the way they walked that
spoke of wealth and sophistication. The gate to the fourth tier was even more guarded, two guards on
each side in full battle gear. The sound of footsteps drew up eyes upward to see four more guards
walking along the top of the wall, bows in hand. The increased security closer to the castle made
sense, but the fact that the lower tiers that had a higher population had less protection seemed rather
callous. I knew Terrans cared nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The front of the castle past the moot was a lot of green space and cobble stones, but that was all I
could make out in the weak light. I was too panicked to take in details anyway. Instead of being taken
toward the large gate in front of me, I was directed along the wall. There was a small wooden door set
into the base of a drum tower in the wall. A guard saluted and unlocked the heavy wooden door. Kane
let go of me and disappeared through it. I turned to look for an exit, but Captain Saban was crowding
me to go down. I could not move. I took a few deep breaths, but they all got caught in my throat.
Captain Saban nudged me. I took a step forward. It was pitch black inside. I put my hand out to feel
the wall or anything and brushed against Kane. You ll get used to it in a moment. Kane took my hand
and placed it on his shoulder before he started downward. I blinked a few times to try and see my
surroundings, but it was useless. Finally, I unfocused my eyes and gathered the stray light beams from
a torch shining somewhere in the distance. There was not much to see, just stone walls streaked with
grime and water. After what seemed like ages of the downward spiral, in which I thought we might
walk into the center of the Earth where Terran held court, the ground leveled out. We entered a long
corridor, torches blazing at different intervals that made me wince at the sudden brightness and hay
littering the floor. Another guard, this

Arctic Wildlife Refuge
Protect the Arctic Refuge Jimmy Carter s forward to Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: Seasons of life
and Land, A Photographic Journey by Subhankar Banerjee asserts that the Arctic Wildlife Refuge
should be protected by the government and the people of America. Carter supports his argument by
using imagery, historical evidence, and tone. First, Carter uses a description of the Arctic refuge to
prove that imagery supports his requests. The Arctic Refuge is described as As the never setting sun
circled above the horizon, we watched the muskox, those shaggy survivors of the Ice Age, lumer along
braided river that meander toward the Beaufort Sea. This displays the beauty, innocence, and calmness
of the refuge, proving that anything this beautiful should be defended. Carter s description affects the
audience by making them feel pity for all of the animals and the environment, knowing that its beauty
will be destroyed, urging the audience to change the refuge s fate. Thus, imagery perfectly
demonstrates how important the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states, It would be a grand triumph for America if we can preserve the Arctic Refuge in its pure,
untampered state. To leave this extraordinary land alone would be the greatest gift we could pass onto
future generations. This final explanation in Carter s work confirms the claim that he has been trying
to support. Carter feels concerned towards this cause and he wishes that everyone in America and the
government cares for it as well. If anyone loves a cause, idea, or image, they will do whatever it takes
to save and nourish it. This is exactly how Carter feels towards the Arctic Refuge and his writing
implements this into the audience by making the readers feel sorrowful, yet wanting to change the way
the Arctic Refuge is treated. Hence, Carter truly cares for the Arctic Refuge and wants the audience to

Alchemist Answer Key
1)Why does Coelho open with the modified myth of Narcissus? How does the new version differ from
the original one? How does it change the myth s meaning? What might the author be suggesting about
how we perceive ourselves and the world? Paulo Coelho began with the tale of Narcissus to show the
reader that when you are so caught up in your own life you do not realize the greater things like nature
and friends. It differs because it leaves out how the lake was also too caught up in its own beauty to
notice other people. The new myth focuses more on positive outcomes from unfortunate events while
the original is negative. It portrays everything to be self centered. This relates to the tale of the
Alchemist because, in chasing his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

situation as things become their very worst before they get better. The alchemist left Santiago alone
because every person s journey is an individual one; no one can help you realize your own dreams. 14)
Earlier in the story, the alchemist told Santiago when you possess great treasures within you, and try to
tell others of them, seldom are you believed. At the end of the story, how does this simple lesson
change Santiago s life? How does it lead him back to the treasure he was looking for? When Santiago
encountered the thieves, he told them the truth, and they didn t believe him, which saved his life. This
quote from earlier in the book was mentioned, about how people become more skeptical when they
are older: Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is. At that point in their
lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for
everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force
begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend. 1) What
is alchemy? What processes were involved? Who performed it and why? Who were the famous

Syntax In Scarlet Letter
D.H. Lawrence provides an effective critical analysis of Hester Prynne from Nathaniel Hawthorne s
novel, The Scarlet Letter. He criticizes Hawthorne s portrayal of the story s protagonist, which
negatively affects the way readers view her. Lawrence s writing targets Prynne as a seductive woman
with vile intentions. D.H. Lawrence s critical analysis is effective because he uses literary devices
such as succinct syntax, a sarcastic tone, and biblical allusions in his analysis of Hester Prynne.
Lawrence s succinct syntax is effective in making rapid, direct jabs at Hawthorne s characterization of
Hester Prynne. For instance, Lawrence strengthens his argument by saying, The fiery heart. A. Mary
of the Bleeding Heart. Mater Adoleratal A. Capital A. Adulteress. Glittering with gold thread. Abel!
Adultery. Admirable! (Lawrence). Lawrence s purpose with this syntax is to capture the reader s
attention with the organization of the words. He executes this effectively because each phrase in the
list holds a deeper significance that relates them to Hester Prynne. Additionally, Lawrence utilizes
repetition in his syntax: Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A. America (Lawrence). The alliteration of
the letter A is significant because he addresses possible alternative meanings for the scarlet letter.
These words are insults to the character of Hester Prynne and they are effective because they make the
reader have to search for hidden meanings. For example, the word Abel is a biblical

LCC business model can work over long haul sectors? This paper compares the cost and other
advantages of LCCs and evaluates how far they might be applied to long haul sectors. It is estimated
that cost advantages might be much lower than the 50 60% on shorthauls. Other factors such as the

Ryanair s and AirAsia s announcement of their intentions to move into long haul markets has added to
interest in the potential for such services. A previous paper addressed the degree to which the low cost
model could be applied to long haul operations (Francis et al, 2007). That study (based on 2003 data)
concluded that a low cost long haul operation could only achieve a 20% cost advantage over network
carriers compared to 50% on short/medium haul flights. Their definition of long haul flights will also
be adopted here: any sector that cannot be operated by an 3 unconverted A320 or B737, the
workhorses of the low cost business model to date. This effectively means flights of six hours or
more.1 The head of Boeing s commercial aircraft division thought that there might be a market for low
cost transatlantic flights; any further and creature comforts will be required (Morgan, 2007). However,
existing long haul Y class cabins offer seat comfort that is scarcely better than many short haul LCCs.
Furthermore other in flight amenities would certainly be available for purchase on a long haul LCC.
This paper examines the potential for long haul LCCs, first by reviewing previous proposals, looking
at costs and competitive reactions before assessing market stimulation and the need for feed.

2.2 Describe with Examples the Importance of Recognising...
2.2 Describe with examples the importance of recognising and responding to concerns about children
and young people s development When looking at children and young people s development it is
important to recognise and respond to concerns to ensure that the child or young person receives the
help and assistance needed. The sooner any issues or concerns are raised the sooner the child or young
person can be monitored and help or assistance given. The following things would cause concern
about a child or young persons development. If the concern was ignored or the problem was left
untreated things could get worse and a delay in help or any treatment needed could mean the outcome
isn t as good as if the treatment was started earlier. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physically as the child isn t playing at playtime they might not be as physically active as they
previously were. Responding to any concern has to be done in a professional manner meaning that you
don t talk to the parents or carer of the child without first following procedures. You would have to
have an account and a note of exactly what was seen or heard or anything witnessed. You would need
to state why it was a concern to you and the date and time this occurred. You would need to have kept
a log and it must be true and accurate. You would approach the class teacher with your concern. If the
teacher disregards it you would still need to report it as you have a responsibility to that child or young
person. You would report it to the relevant person above the teacher until the concern has been
reported correctly. Once reported the relevant person can help the child appropriately to solve the
issue correctly hopefully getting the child back on course. If you fail to take note and report any
concerns of child development the child or young person s development could be affected in various
areas. Example 2 You may start to become concerned about a child or young person if they start to act
out of character or their behaviour changes. You have a child who in class usually participates well
and is happy, very outgoing and confident but one day they come into class looking sad and is very
quiet.

I Want For Statement Of Purpose For Mechanical Engineering
Statement of Purpose
God would laugh when human beings think, a popular saying goes like this. I don t know how much
truth there is in this saying, but if human beings stop thinking, they will be no long called human
beings, will they? I recall this popular saying when I m writing the present statement because it is my
incessant thinking that has been inspiring my thirst for and persevering pursuit of knowledge. It is
through this pursuit that I have been tempering myself and adding value to my life.
Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated by the way things work, from dismantling and
maintaining my own bike to modelling a lift for apartments as a part of a science exhibition; my
curiosity was directed at unravelling the functioning of devices. Egged on by my parents and teachers

Application Of A Chinese Culture
My organization has decided to outsource customer service to the Country of China as part of the
company s decision to cut back on operational costs. I have been selected to travel to China to train
the new employees about operational procedures. I understand as an American my cultural values
differ from that of Chinese culture, and I do not want to give a bad first impression by inadvertently
offending the employees and the management of the Chinese based office. If I am going to be
successful in my mission, I understand that I am going to have to study and know how to implement
Chinese culture prior to my trip. There are several factors I must understand before going to China:
1. The significance of Guanxi.
Guanxi actually means courting , and is a gadget of social networks and influential relationships that
facilitate commercial enterprise and different dealings. When one has successfully built guanxi with
some other, he can be quick to do a favor and act on another s behalf. Crucially, this is arrangement is
give and take, meaning that both parties can assume such favors. This frequently misunderstood
concept is vital in Chinese business tradition, and evidently it takes time for the parties construct
guanxi. Now not surprisingly, the procedure for Chinese enterprise people to believe a foreigner and
broaden guanxi can frequently take up to at least one 2 years.

Snowy Evening Diction
People see life as a journey, starting at birth and ending at death. Human beings experience the beauty
and evils that exist in this world. Literature and literary elements help capture those experiences and
show the varieties of what life holds for each person. Robert Frost uses purpose, mood, and meaning
to connect to the reader s journey through life using four poems that describe various moments in life.
Frost s Stopping By The Woods On A Snowy Evening illustrates a traveler s short break in the woods.
Throughout the poem, the speaker uses descriptive diction to incite imagery showing snowy woods on
a winter night. He takes in the scene before him and gives himself a time to be at peace before he
returns back to his trip. The purpose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker starts out by investigating the two paths that he has come upon. He discusses the traits of
each path and how both looked different but worn the same. Frost notes, Though as for that the
passing there/Had worn them really about the same. Here, the reader can develop an understand that
neither road looks as if it would lead to something better than the other road. A journey requires an
individual to make choices along the way but is able to look back and wonder if things would have
changed if they chose the other option. The poem does show that happening but the mood at the end
of the poem is the speaker feeling content with their choice, contrasting to an earlier mood of
hesitancy. The speaker then validates their choice as the poem reads, Yet knowing how way leads on
to way,/I doubted if I should ever come back. (Frost) The speaker realizes that once they had picked a
road, they could not return to the choice and had to stay long the chosen path. This does not seem to
be hindrance to the speaker as Frost ends the poem with, ...and I /I took the one less traveled by,/ And
that has made all the difference. This poem emphasizes that journeys are about decisions and the
change that follows, whether it be beneficial or detrimental. Each journey will be different depending
on which path a person

All Things Being Equal Essay
All Things Being Equal
Most of us have heard Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream speech, or part of it, at some point in our
lives. In 1964, one year after the speech was given, Lyndon B. Johnson signed Executive Order 11246,
which signaled the birth of affirmative action. Affirmative action refers to efforts to increase
educational and employment opportunities for minorities and women. In November, 1997, California
voters did away with affirmative action [at the state level] by passing proposition 209. They were
convinced that it was no longer needed, that it gave minorities and women special rights. Governor
Pete Wilson wrote in 1996 as part of his campaign against affirmative action:

We are struggling over crumbs because we know that the bigger part hs been received by the elites in
corporate America. (Brunk 331)
An example of this fighting over crumbs is the California proposition 209. White people felt they were
not getting jobs, scholarships, into college, because the jobs, scholarships, etc., were being given to
less qualified people of color. Some people of color were also against affirmative action because they
didn t feel like they made it on their own accord but were hired or admitted to college, etc., because of
their skin color and not because of their merits. This inferiority complex is shared by Richard
Rodriguez, an American essayist and teacher. According to the biographical sketches in Literacies,
Despite his academic success, Rodriguez left the university partly because he was uncomfortable with
advantages he felt he received because of his minority status. (Brunk 697)
To understand affirmative action we must look back in history. According to Cornel West,The
fundamental aim of affirmative action was to put a significant dent in the tightly controlled networks
of privileged white citizens who monopolized the good jobs and influential positions in American
society. (Curry 32)

famous that he designed theme park for the entertainment of children and family in U.S.A. Disney
then thought to spread the theme parks around the world. Therefore Disney theme parks were opened
first in Tokyo, Japan called Disney Resort which became sucuessful by luck. The second theme park
was opened in Paris called Disneyland Paris which became unsuccessful because of the cultural
differences between U.S and Paris. Keeping this problem in mind, Disney opened third theme park in
Hong Kong called Hong Kond Disneyland which became successful.
Here Disney had strategic plan in terms of consumer focused initiative. A consumer initiative often

marketing goods or services to new demographics or creating a new customer service function to

Alabama Civil War
Journal Article Review #1 McCollum, C.
THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during
and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war.
During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama,
by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and
in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to
use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in
1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as
well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied
their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the
confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863,
the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but
they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. From January to October 1864, James T. Ayres a
freeman from Illinois served as the recruiter in north Alabama. While here Ayres learned just how

Japanese Internment Camps During World War II
The decision to relocate Japanese Americans to internment camps during World War II was an
impurity in the United States reputation for maintaining democracy and individual rights. When the
Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor during World War II, great hysteria spread through the United States,
urging President Roosevelt to pass the now infamous Executive Order 9066, ordering the removal of
all people of Japanese American descent. More than 100,000 people were displaced and their lives
were changed forever (Tremayne). The tragedies that these people suffered bring into question the
reasoning behind the order and its constitutionality. Challenges were made to the constitutionality of
the order in cases such as Korematsu vs. the United States that were ruled down. With hindsight bias,
the immorality of Executive Order 9066 seems obvious, yet many at the time strongly felt that the
right decision had taken place ( Personal Justice Denied ). The circumstances of war made the lines of
morality blurry, distorting the decisions made. The Japanese American Relocation was an act of
racism more than an act of protection, and was motivated primarily by a fear of foreign people.
Roosevelt states in Executive Order 9066 that the war requires every possible protection against
espionage and against sabotage to national defense material (Executive Order 9066). He was
pressured to sign this order by others because of the paranoia that resulted from Pearl Harbor and the
entry of the

William Gulliver s Travels And Oroonoko
Neoclassicism in Gulliver s Travels and Oroonoko Penned sometime between the mid 1600s and late
1700s, a literary genre defined by artificiality and formality, neoclassical literature reflected the style
of literature adopted from the Greeks and the Romans. As such, the literature tends to focus on glib
characters who were preoccupied with appearances rather than genuineness. In addition, having good
manners and public comportment was essential. The literature during the Neoclassical era is
characterized by structure, order, and accuracy, traits that directly undermined attitudes during the
Renaissance period. As such, authors represented man as innately flawed yet striving to show both self
control and restraint. Although Gulliver s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Swift s Gulliver s Travels is a clear example of satirical social commentary intended to shed light on
man s imperfections and the reality of human nature. The protagonist first travels to an island called
Lilliput, a place in which the denizens small males who are about six inches in height comport
themselves in a petty, pretentious manner and convey the self importance often demonstrated by life
sized men. These residents are vicious, morally bereft, hypocritical, jealous, greedy, and deceitful,
displaying all very human traits. Swift utilizes the Lilliputians to satirize particular events and people
in the protagonist s life and to mirror the flawed and treacherous nature of man that became so
blaringly public during the eighteenth century. In comparing Lilliputian physical stature and societal
values with his own size and English bred values, Gulliver finds the Lilliputians to be physically and
societally flawed. Gulliver then travels in Brobdingnag, an island peopled by 60 foot giants, where the
residents put the protagonist back in his place, offering the bulk of your natives, to be the most
pernicious race of odious vermin . . . to crawl upon the surface of the Earth. (1460). As such, the
giants function as moralizing elements who reside in a practice, moral utopia. Virtue and good will
permeate this island, which manifests in the laws that govern the island and

Genocide In Bosnia
The preface begins with the author recalling an unfortunate event relating to genocide. In 1995,
Bosnian Serbs annihilated Sarajevo by volumes of shells and other bombardments. As a result, the
United States and NATO demanded an end to this atrocity; the Serbs, fearful of the contesters ceased.
In a state of liberty, children began to spend most of their time outside playing. Months later, the
Clinton administration decided to withdraw support from the situation, hoping that the situation would
end itself.
The absence of support led the Bosnian Serbs to once again continue their attacks. Fearful and
determined, the insurgents surpassed the ordinary and decided to threaten a United Nations territory.
In so, the city of Srebrenica fell to the

Butterfly Life Cycle
The Butterfly Life Cycle by Torran Anderson is a leveled text, because Farrah is reading at level H, we
were able to adapt the original in order to suit her skill levels. The book is separated by the stages of
the life cycle and includes a table of contents making each stage highly accessible to the students. In
addition to the table of contents, the beginning of the book also includes the focus question: what is
the life cycle of a monarch butterfly? This focus questions allows for these readers to focus their
attention and read the story having an idea of how their thought process should be conducted. What
we found to be the most vital resource within this text was the introduction to the vocabulary words at
the beginning of the text, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By pausing at words that the students do not know and breaking them down the students will gain
experience that will allow them to work on this practice independently. We set this up as a gradual
release of responsibility, beginning the exercise with a teacher model of how to break down a word.
We will then break down a list of words into parts and have students repeat these breakdowns before
practicing it themselves. Before diving into the reading, we will go over sentences that have these
practice words and have the student, together, repeating the sentences after us. This ensures that
students gain practice reading the word in sentences, rather than as an individual word before
performing their whisper reads. We included whisper reading as the during reading activity, to give
students a chance to read independently but without the pressure of having an audience. As they read
to themselves, students will pause at words they are struggling to pronounce and break them apart, at
this point we will continue guiding students through this process, in order ensure that motivation is not
lost when students feel challenged. To gauge the learnings of the students, we will have each student
chose one word that they struggle with and create a master list, the students will practice pronouncing
their individual words and receive clarifying definitions if necessary. The students will then create
their own sentence using this word, practice it through whisper readings, and then share it aloud with
the group. This process creates a learning experience where students are able to practice not only their
phonics skills but also work on comprehension. This process incorporates repetition to enforce the
importance and practice with this

The Secret to Stopping Gun Violence in its Tracks Essay
In America today, many citizens of the United States are divided when it comes to their own stances
on gun control. Considering American is home to the biggest acts of gun violence around the world, it
is only appropriate that a gun control bill is added to assure the safety of our people. Such as the
proposed gun control legislation written by President Barack Obama and his administration. In
Mr.Obama s proposed plan addresses many aspects of gun violence that is seen around America, on a
daily basis. Barack Obama s bill proposes universal background checks, an assault weapon ban, in
addition to funds to research mental illness. It is very important that
Americans familiarize themselves with our current President s ideas, due to the fact ... Show more

In reality, being able to avoid such procedures is what is causing problems with the people who use
such weapons to commit crimes. It is said that 93 percent of the guns obtained by violent criminals are
not obtained through the lawful purchase (Snyder 1). That in order to stop horrible gun related crimes
from taking place, measures such as universal background checks need to be a requirement to own any
type of weapon, whether it be a simple hand held gun, or an assault weapon that can fire a high speed
of bullets at once, without having to reload. If a universal background check was used in order to
assure the person receiving such a weapon will use it for protection and not against the public. A major
priority in President Barack Obama s gun control legislation is the idea of universal criminal and
mental health background checks for all firearms sales . This means that when a person goes to make a
purchase of a firearm, a background check is not only just ran through through their life in the United
States, however their information is also ran through a world wide data in order to deter potential gun
buyers, and prevent the purchase of firearms by potentially dangerous criminals (Lee, Stingl,
Alexander 1).This is essential in allowing people to purchase weapons because it could eliminate the
black market. If a person is found with connections to

Foucault s Herculine Barbin
Science, the one enterprise that is always relied upon and deemed as the credible source of
information that makes sense of some of society s most probing questions. Society allows science to
define one s identity by categorizing individuals into one of two sexess: male or female, based on a
socially agreed upon biological criteria whether it be one s genetic make up before birth and/or genital
organs at birth.
In his introduction of Herculine Barbin, Foucault questions the necessity of a true sex, a concept, if we
may, that has been embedded into a systematic structure of acceptance of modern Western societies
that limits, what Foucault calls, free choice. Through his examination of Alexina s memoirs, the author

As the film reaches its climax, Brandon s gender is first questioned when he is arrested and his
government name Teena, is written on official documents. Soon after, he is confronted by Tom, John
and Lana s family over the same matter. At first, there is blatant denial that Teena is actually his first
name and that he is, indeed, a man. When he realizes that they are not going to budge, he settles for
labeling himself as a hermaphrodite (scene from Boys Don t Cry). In Brandon s case, it means that he
was born with both sexes; he would rather lie about having two sexes, therefore still defending his
manhood, than accepting a sex that 1) he does not identify with and 2) is imposed on him by society.
For some time, Brandon was living in a somewhat happy limbo in the non identity (Foucault 1980, 6)
that is described in Alexina s memoirs, though not to the extent of non identity Alexina experienced in
his/her early life. One can assume that he is in such a happy limbo by the way the character is
portrayed in the film. It seems as if Brandon, though he identifies as male, is still in touch with his
feminine side. This feminine side, we must point out, is a clear construction of hegemonic
masculinity; because Brandon is sensitive, caring, and gentle, he is displaying feminine

Rock Candy History
Rock Candy (also called rock sugar) is a type of confection composed of relatively large sugar
crystals. This candy is formed by allowing a supersaturated solution of sugar and water to crystallize
onto a surface suitable for crystal nucleation, such as a string, stick, or plain granulated sugar. Heating
the water before adding the sugar allows more sugar to dissolve thus producing larger crystals.
Crystals form after 6 7 days. Food coloring may be added to the mixture to produce colored candy.
Rock candy is often dissolved in tea. It is an important part of the tea culture of East Frisia, where a
lump of rock sugar is placed at the bottom of the cup. Rock candy consumed with tea is also the most
common and popular way of drinking tea in Iran.

The Corsets And Crinoline In Victorian Fashion
The corset is full of paradoxes (Johnstone, L. Corsets and Crinolines in Victorian Fashion. Available:

affected by social, economic and political factors, and that has had a resounding effect on today s
society as a result.
The corset expresses contradictory messages: constriction and freedom, dominance and submission,
femininity and power. And it refers to current social values: violence, war, sex, nostalgia and
conservatism (Johnstone, L. (N/A). Corsets and Crinolines in Victorian Fashion. Available:

Book Of Negroes Analysis
Although The Book of Negroes is a novel, a work of fiction, it is soundly based in fact. Lawrence Hill
uses the novel in her aim to revive historical facts regarding the displacement of people and their
treatment following their arrival to the new world. Through Aminata Diallo, the novels protagonist of
whom s perspective it is written, Hill emphasizes that the truth lies behind facts, and that historical
facts are linked with human perception, serving as a concept of authenticity. As an elderly woman
working with the abolitionists in early nineteenth century London, Aminata writes her life story. The
novel follows her from her African home to the Americas aboard a slave ship, then from the indigo
plantations of South Carolina to New York, to Nova Scotia, to Sierra Leone, and finally to London.
The novel consists of four books, each beginning with a chapter that ties back to the present time of
the narrative, reminding the reader of Aminata s position of narrative authority and authenticity. At the
beginning of the novel, Aminata asserts her identity, her descent, and her power over the words she
writes: I am Aminata Diallo, daughter of Mamadu Diallo and Sira Kulibali, born in the village of
Bayo, three moons by foot from the Grain Coast in West Africa... I am writing this account. All of it
(4). Hill tried to emphasize that the truth lies beyond the facts through the construction of a strong
female figure who is able to resist the dehumanization of slavery. As Aminata

Last year 11 percent of graduating seniors left with 12 or more credit hours earned from one of the

  • 2. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Song Dynasty As just stated so did the Northern Song clan members set up a capital in Hangzhou. Instead of Northern Song so would they now be called Southern Song. Hangzhou back then was a wealthy trading city and the Song rulers retained their domain south of the Huai River along with most of the population at that time. They also managed to retain big southern merchant cities and therefore a new period of prosperity began. A priority in Southern Song was foreign trade, and the government constructed merchant ships and improved harbor facilities. Xiamen, Quanzhou and Guangzhou were big seaports. The Southern Song merchant ships sailed as far as India and Arabia. The trade allowed the Southern Song empire to continue to be prosperous although they had lost a lot of their land. The government ended up building a navy to protect the merchant shipping. Passle wheel ships were built that were faster than regular boats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government system had of course its advantages and disadvantages. The bureaucrats for an example studied the same works on social behavior and philosophy. That promoted unity and the normalization of behavior through the empire and during the times of dynastic change. She explains how common the techniques are in plenty of advertisements. Car companies applies multiple propaganda techniques to advertise their cars. In a magazine for cars, Toyota make use of two notable techniques in an advertisement for a Toyota Corolla. The full page ad pictures the Corolla driving along a curvy road with no guard rails that is uplifted above clouds. The car is in the middle of the one lane on the road. Next to the car are three average people standing near the cliff s edge. The first technique noticed is glittering generalities. The phrase, Get in touch with a different kind of remote doesn t mean anything; however, the words provoke feelings. The words allow the intended audience to feel that the car would bring a sense of peace in the way an isolated location would. The image of an isolated place with only three people picture helps to reaffirm this feeling. Another technique was plain folks. This technique utilizes people who appear average to make the ad more relatable. The people shown are dressed in average clothing and doing things, like taking pictures and pointing at the mountains, as any normal person would in that setting. Also, because the people s faces aren t shown, helps to reinforce the feeling of relatability by allowing the audience to more easily imagine as if they could be the people in the ... Two significant outcomes of my personal childhood was the value of feminism and the attitude of ambition. Valuing feminism was an outcome of socialisation from my childhood. Socialisation occurred in the family microsystem, the biggest influencer on a child (REF81). The method of socialisation was observational, using the technique of modelling (Wright 2016). As an example, from ages 3 14, my mother was a single parent, during that time she both attended university and had a full time job, being as successful as my father. Alison Ayers discusses the false perception of civil war and failed states that have been created and implemented by the West (Ayers 2012). She disputes that civil war is internally instigated and only portrayed this way due to western representations of Africa through media. Ayers states that these efforts are made by hegemonic powers and are ideologically and politically convenient (Ayers 2012, 261). Her implications here suggest that these ideological subjugations render African regions vulnerable for the use of exploitation and continuous dependency on external powers. Attach that luggage destination tag to each luggage. Together with the tags, the kiosk will also dispense the boarding pass for the passenger. Step 4 Place the luggage where directed or indicated. For some airlines and in some airports, the passengers may have to carry their luggage for a short distance up to the luggage collection area. Whereas, there are some airlines that have stationed personnel at each kiosk to take the passengers luggage once one complete the check in procedure (James). The Baggage Delay Problem Handling of bags by airlines remains a challenging aspect in the baggage handling process and this is bound to be an issue facing Emirates. The expanding air traffic increases the stress on the airline s bag operations, delays and consequent unexpected alterations to schedules. These can negatively affect the airline as a whole. In a similar manner to other businesses, Emirates encounters its own set of challenges in its operations. One of the main problems relates to the delays that passengers experience when dropping their baggage at check in counters. Normally, this can be attributed to the long processes and queues that arise in printing of tags and sorting out the baggage. Often, the sorting of the bags and printing of tags that take place at the check in counter ends up creating long queues and unnecessary delays. The delays that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was not just the clothes, there was no illusion I could put on myself that would make me fit in. There was something about the way they walked that spoke of wealth and sophistication. The gate to the fourth tier was even more guarded, two guards on each side in full battle gear. The sound of footsteps drew up eyes upward to see four more guards walking along the top of the wall, bows in hand. There was a small wooden door set into the base of a drum tower in the wall. A guard saluted and unlocked the heavy wooden door. Kane let go of me and disappeared through it. I turned to look for an exit, but Captain Saban was crowding me to go down. I could not move. I took a few deep breaths, but they all got caught in my throat. Captain Saban nudged me. I took a step forward. It was pitch black inside. I put my hand out to feel the wall or anything and brushed against Kane. You ll get used to it in a moment. After what seemed like ages of the downward spiral, in which I thought we might walk into the center of the Earth where Terran held court, the ground leveled out. Arctic Wildlife Refuge Protect the Arctic Refuge Jimmy Carter s forward to Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: Seasons of life and Land, A Photographic Journey by Subhankar Banerjee asserts that the Arctic Wildlife Refuge should be protected by the government and the people of America. Carter supports his argument by using imagery, historical evidence, and tone. First, Carter uses a description of the Arctic refuge to prove that imagery supports his requests. The Arctic Refuge is described as As the never setting sun circled above the horizon, we watched the muskox, those shaggy survivors of the Ice Age, lumer along braided river that meander toward the Beaufort Sea. This displays the beauty, innocence, and calmness of the refuge, proving that anything this beautiful should be defended. • 10. Syntax In Scarlet Letter D.H. Lawrence provides an effective critical analysis of Hester Prynne from Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel, The Scarlet Letter. He criticizes Hawthorne s portrayal of the story s protagonist, which negatively affects the way readers view her. Lawrence s writing targets Prynne as a seductive woman with vile intentions. D.H. Lawrence s critical analysis is effective because he uses literary devices such as succinct syntax, a sarcastic tone, and biblical allusions in his analysis of Hester Prynne. Lawrence s succinct syntax is effective in making rapid, direct jabs at Hawthorne s characterization of Hester Prynne. For instance, Lawrence strengthens his argument by saying, The fiery heart. A. Mary of the Bleeding Heart. Mater Adoleratal A. Capital A. Adulteress. Glittering with gold thread. Abel! Adultery. Admirable! (Lawrence). Lawrence s purpose with this syntax is to capture the reader s attention with the organization of the words. He executes this effectively because each phrase in the list holds a deeper significance that relates them to Hester Prynne. Additionally, Lawrence utilizes repetition in his syntax: Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A. America (Lawrence). The alliteration of the letter A is significant because he addresses possible alternative meanings for the scarlet letter. These words are insults to the character of Hester Prynne and they are effective because they make the reader have to search for hidden meanings. For example, the word Abel is a biblical ... That study (based on 2003 data) concluded that a low cost long haul operation could only achieve a 20% cost advantage over network carriers compared to 50% on short/medium haul flights. Frost s Stopping By The Woods On A Snowy Evening illustrates a traveler s short break in the woods. A journey requires an individual to make choices along the way but is able to look back and wonder if things would have changed if they chose the other option. The poem does show that happening but the mood at the end of the poem is the speaker feeling content with their choice, contrasting to an earlier mood of hesitancy. The speaker then validates their choice as the poem reads, Yet knowing how way leads on to way,/I doubted if I should ever come back. In November, 1997, California voters did away with affirmative action [at the state level] by passing proposition 209. Some people of color were also against affirmative action because they didn t feel like they made it on their own accord but were hired or admitted to college, etc., because of their skin color and not because of their merits. Is there frequent maintenance specifically needed in wood midrise? If yes, please specify. I think the maintenance is reciprocal to steal or concrete. For example there is much more framing in wood framing then let s say concrete. But concrete would need time to cure ect. 5. What is the risk of shrinkage in wood midrise, the type of shrinkage and ways to prevent it? Most of the wood that we are getting is engineered. The beams and other spans are just typical wood, they are engineered and charred to with stand fires, and are able to expand and shrink with at ease with the building. 6. Is there restriction on live on dead load overall in wood midrise? No, we would not of done this type of building if it did not provide the same strength as concrete and steel. 7. • 21. Alabama Civil War Journal Article Review #1 McCollum, C. THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war. During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama, by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in 1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863, the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. From January to October 1864, James T. Ayres a freeman from Illinois served as the recruiter in north Alabama. While here Ayres learned just how devoted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 22. Japanese Internment Camps During World War II The decision to relocate Japanese Americans to internment camps during World War II was an impurity in the United States reputation for maintaining democracy and individual rights. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor during World War II, great hysteria spread through the United States, urging President Roosevelt to pass the now infamous Executive Order 9066, ordering the removal of all people of Japanese American descent. More than 100,000 people were displaced and their lives were changed forever (Tremayne). The tragedies that these people suffered bring into question the reasoning behind the order and its constitutionality. Challenges were made to the constitutionality of the order in cases such as Korematsu vs. the United States that were ruled down. With hindsight bias, the immorality of Executive Order 9066 seems obvious, yet many at the time strongly felt that the right decision had taken place ( Personal Justice Denied ). The circumstances of war made the lines of morality blurry, distorting the decisions made. The Japanese American Relocation was an act of racism more than an act of protection, and was motivated primarily by a fear of foreign people. Roosevelt states in Executive Order 9066 that the war requires every possible protection against espionage and against sabotage to national defense material (Executive Order 9066). He was pressured to sign this order by others because of the paranoia that resulted from Pearl Harbor and the entry of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Gulliver s Travels And Oroonoko Neoclassicism in Gulliver s Travels and Oroonoko Penned sometime between the mid 1600s and late 1700s, a literary genre defined by artificiality and formality, neoclassical literature reflected the style of literature adopted from the Greeks and the Romans. As such, the literature tends to focus on glib characters who were preoccupied with appearances rather than genuineness. In addition, having good manners and public comportment was essential. The literature during the Neoclassical era is characterized by structure, order, and accuracy, traits that directly undermined attitudes during the Renaissance period. Swift s Gulliver s Travels is a clear example of satirical social commentary intended to shed light on man s imperfections and the reality of human nature. The protagonist first travels to an island called Lilliput, a place in which the denizens small males who are about six inches in height comport themselves in a petty, pretentious manner and convey the self importance often demonstrated by life sized men. These residents are vicious, morally bereft, hypocritical, jealous, greedy, and deceitful, displaying all very human traits. Swift utilizes the Lilliputians to satirize particular events and people in the protagonist s life and to mirror the flawed and treacherous nature of man that became so blaringly public during the eighteenth century. In comparing Lilliputian physical stature and societal values with his own size and English bred values, Gulliver finds the Lilliputians to be physically and societally flawed. Gulliver then travels in Brobdingnag, an island peopled by 60 foot giants, where the residents put the protagonist back in his place, offering the bulk of your natives, to be the most pernicious race of odious vermin . . . to crawl upon the surface of the Earth. (1460). As such, the giants function as moralizing elements who reside in a practice, moral utopia. By pausing at words that the students do not know and breaking them down the students will gain experience that will allow them to work on this practice independently. We set this up as a gradual release of responsibility, beginning the exercise with a teacher model of how to break down a word. We will then break down a list of words into parts and have students repeat these breakdowns before practicing it themselves. Before diving into the reading, we will go over sentences that have these practice words and have the student, together, repeating the sentences after us. This ensures that students gain practice reading the word in sentences, rather than as an individual word before performing their whisper reads. We included whisper reading as the during reading activity, to give students a chance to read independently but without the pressure of having an audience. As they read to themselves, students will pause at words they are struggling to pronounce and break them apart, at this point we will continue guiding students through this process, in order ensure that motivation is not lost when students feel challenged. To gauge the learnings of the students, we will have each student chose one word that they struggle with and create a master list, the students will practice pronouncing their individual words and receive clarifying definitions if necessary. The students will then create their own sentence using this word, practice it through whisper readings, and then share it aloud with the group. This process creates a learning experience where students are able to practice not only their phonics skills but also work on comprehension. It is said that 93 percent of the guns obtained by violent criminals are not obtained through the lawful purchase (Snyder 1). That in order to stop horrible gun related crimes from taking place, measures such as universal background checks need to be a requirement to own any type of weapon, whether it be a simple hand held gun, or an assault weapon that can fire a high speed of bullets at once, without having to reload. If a universal background check was used in order to assure the person receiving such a weapon will use it for protection and not against the public. A major priority in President Barack Obama s gun control legislation is the idea of universal criminal and mental health background checks for all firearms sales . This means that when a person goes to make a purchase of a firearm, a background check is not only just ran through through their life in the United States, however their information is also ran through a world wide data in order to deter potential gun buyers, and prevent the purchase of firearms by potentially dangerous criminals (Lee, Stingl, Alexander 1).This is essential in allowing people to purchase weapons because it could eliminate the black market. Society allows science to define one s identity by categorizing individuals into one of two sexess: male or female, based on a socially agreed upon biological criteria whether it be one s genetic make up before birth and/or genital organs at birth. In his introduction of Herculine Barbin, Foucault questions the necessity of a true sex, a concept, if we may, that has been embedded into a systematic structure of acceptance of modern Western societies that limits, what Foucault calls, free choice. As the film reaches its climax, Brandon s gender is first questioned when he is arrested and his government name Teena, is written on official documents. Soon after, he is confronted by Tom, John and Lana s family over the same matter. At first, there is blatant denial that Teena is actually his first name and that he is, indeed, a man. When he realizes that they are not going to budge, he settles for labeling himself as a hermaphrodite (scene from Boys Don t Cry). In Brandon s case, it means that he was born with both sexes; he would rather lie about having two sexes, therefore still defending his manhood, than accepting a sex that 1) he does not identify with and 2) is imposed on him by society. For some time, Brandon was living in a somewhat happy limbo in the non identity (Foucault 1980, 6) that is described in Alexina s memoirs, though not to the extent of non identity Alexina experienced in his/her early life. One can assume that he is in such a happy limbo by the way the character is portrayed in the film. It seems as if Brandon, though he identifies as male, is still in touch with his feminine side. This feminine side, we must point out, is a clear construction of hegemonic masculinity; because Brandon is sensitive, caring, and gentle, he is displaying feminine ... Heating the water before adding the sugar allows more sugar to dissolve thus producing larger crystals. Crystals form after 6 7 days. Food coloring may be added to the mixture to produce colored candy. Rock candy is often dissolved in tea. Lawrence Hill uses the novel in her aim to revive historical facts regarding the displacement of people and their treatment following their arrival to the new world. Through Aminata Diallo, the novels protagonist of whom s perspective it is written, Hill emphasizes that the truth lies behind facts, and that historical facts are linked with human perception, serving as a concept of authenticity. As an elderly woman working with the abolitionists in early nineteenth century London, Aminata writes her life story. The novel follows her from her African home to the Americas aboard a slave ship, then from the indigo plantations of South Carolina to New York, to Nova Scotia, to Sierra Leone, and finally to London. The novel consists of four books, each beginning with a chapter that ties back to the present time of the narrative, reminding the reader of Aminata s position of narrative authority and authenticity. At the beginning of the novel, Aminata asserts her identity, her descent, and her power over the words she writes: I am Aminata Diallo, daughter of Mamadu Diallo and Sira Kulibali, born in the village of Bayo, three moons by foot from the Grain Coast in West Africa...
