This document outlines a lesson plan for a class of 10th grade students to learn about Native American tribes, their migration to North America, American expansionism and its impact on Native Americans. Over the course of a week, students will use maps, videos, documents and blogs to learn about six Native American tribes, how they arrived in North America, the effects of "Manifest Destiny", the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the "Trail of Tears", and Native Americans today, with the goal of 90% accuracy. Each day focuses on a different topic area through interactive activities using technology.

▪ The students are 10th graders at a local public
school.The classroom consists of 20 students,
14 girls and 6 boys ranging between the ages
of 14-16. Of those students, 17 are Caucasian,
2 are African-American, and 1 is Asian.These
students learn a lot from visual aids and love
to put in their own input.

3. Main Objective
▪ My students will identify six different Native
AmericanTribes; how they arrived to North
America; the effects of “Manifest Destiny”; the
Indian Removal Act of 1830; the “Trail ofTears”; and
NativeAmericans in the 21st Century by: examining
maps and primary source documents, watching
videos, posting blogs to a classroom blog, and
listening to lectures with 90% accuracy by the end
of the week.

4. Day by Day Breakdown
▪ Monday – Students will learn about the Native American’s Migration
to North America through interactive maps.
▪ Tuesday – Students will watch a documentary on Six Native
AmericanTribes in North America.
▪ Wednesday – Students will learn aboutAmerican Expansion into
Native AmericanTerritories (“Manifest Destiny”).
▪ Thursday – Students will learn about the Indian Removal Act of 1830
and “Trail ofTears” by using Slideshare to read a Primary Source
Document .
▪ Friday – Students will talk about Native Americans in the 21st
Century.
