Two white children were among the first to be bused to a formerly all-black school to integrate it under a new desegregation plan on October 4th, 1974. On the same day, white students protested against the busing outside the home of the judge who ordered it, while a black rally supported integration. Black students were guarded by police as they boarded buses to return home.
