The goal of your visit is two-fold: 1) to allow you to experience what life
is like for a typical student in America, and 2) to introduce you to an
amazing university - Huntington University.
Introducing you to the
academic experience
Huntington University:
During your time visiting America you
will spend one week attending normal
university classes in order to better
understand what the typical Huntington
University classroom is like. In addition
to the classes, you will spend time with
Huntington University students. You
will have the chance to ask international
students questions that you may be
wondering as you consider studying in
the USA.
Cultural Experience
Throughout your four weeks in America you will experience a variety of activities
designed to help you gain a greater understanding of American culture. You will
spend most of your nights with a host family in a typical American home. You will
visit both large and small US cities such as Chicago, Indianapolis, Shipshewana, and
Washington DC. You will also experience cultural traditions such as food, games,
and fun outings with friends.
Huntington North High
School:
You will spend two weeks attending
classes at Huntington North High
School alongside students that are your
age, allowing you to form friendships
and participate in an American high
school classroom. This experience will
help you improve your English ability,
allowing you to feel more comfortable
listening and speaking English with
native English speakers.
Daily Itinerary
January 17 - Arrive in Chicago and shuttle to hotel for the
night.
January 18-19 - See the sites of the “Windy City.” For these
two days you will stay in Chicago and get the full experience
of being in a big American city. While in Chicago you will
visit many famous attractions. You will see the city from the
top of the tallest building in the city at the Willis (formerly
known as Sears) Tower Sky Deck, check out the world under
the sea at one of the nation’s largest aquariums, see how the
world has progressed and evolved in different industrial aspects
at the museum of Science and Industry, and enjoy the beauty of
the arts at the Art Institute of Chicago.
January 20 - Wake up in Chicago and drive to your home away
from home for the next couple of weeks – Huntington, Indiana!
You will be welcomed by staff members of the Institute for
TESOL Studies as well as the families of your host homes. We
will end the day with a welcome banquet to get to know
everyone better.
January 21 - You will tour the Huntington University campus,
meet students and professors, and participate in some fun
activities. After the orientation to Huntington University (HU)
we will take the train to the United States capital city–
Washington DC. The train departs at 10:23 PM.
January 22-24 - Arrive in Washington DC at 1:10 PM to begin
your journey through the national capital. The tour will include
famous sites such as the Washington Monument, Lincoln
Memorial, and the White House. We will also visit the best
museums in the country, the national zoo, and the Capitol
Building. During these three days in Washington DC you will
learn United States history and culture. We board the train to
head back to Huntington on January 24 at 4:05 PM.
January 25 – The train arrives at the Waterloo Station at 6:30
AM, and you will arrive back to Huntington mid-morning.
You to become better acquainted with your host families and
rest up before another busy week begins.

30 - Time to get to the classroom! You will spend
this week attending Huntington North High school. You will sit
in on classes, meet students, and live the life of a typical
American high school student. Each day after school there will
be time for activities and relaxation at Huntington University
before you go back to your host homes for the night.
January 31 – You will go to Indiana’s State Capital –
Indianapolis. In Indianapolis, you will learn and experience an
important aspect of American culture – sporting events. You
will visit the national museum of college athletics to learn
about different college sports offered throughout the country.
You will end your trip by attending an NBA basketball game
between the Indianapolis Pacers and the Sacramento Kings!
February 1 – A day off to relax with your host families.
February 2-5 - Time to go back to school! This week will look
at lot like the previous week. You will spend the week at
Huntington North High School going to classes and making
friends.
February 6 - Another travel day. You will see another
dimension of American culture and history as we head for the
countryside. This will be a unique opportunity to understand a
simpler way of living. Shipshewana, Indiana is known for its
Amish heritage, great food, and relaxing atmosphere.
February 7 - Another day off to enjoy time with your host
families.
February 8-13 – During the final week of your trip, you have
the chance to experience the life of a Huntington University
student. You will spend this week at HU attending classes,
meeting professors, and learning what it means to be a
university student in America.
February 14 - Time to fly back to China just in time for the
Spring Festival! We hope you will have enjoyed the time you
spent with us, and we hope to see you at Huntington University
again!
