Notion of Balance in Things Fall Apart by Achebe Essay
Notion of Balance in Things Fall Apart by Achebe
The notion of balance in Achebe s novel is an important theme throughout the book. Beginning with
the excerpt from Yeats s poem, The Second Coming, the concept of balance is stressed as important,
for without balance, order is lost. In the novel, there are many systems of balance which the Ibo
culture seems to depend upon. It is when these systems are upset that things fall apart. Okonkwo, the
Ibo religion, and ultimately, the Ibos autonomy were brought to their demise by an extreme imbalance
between their male and female aspects. These male and female aspects can be generally be described
as the external, physical strength of the male; and the internal, passive, and nurturing ... Show more

Okonkwo is eventually defeated when he finds that his physical strength is not powerful enough to
overcome the white men, and, unable to accept this, he hangs himself. The Ibo Religion s Demise
The Ibo religion falls in much the same way. This religion is centered about the worship of male gods
and ancestors. The female god among these may be the Earth goddess, but Okonkwo offends this
goddess twice in the story to save his masculine image: once when he beats his wife during the week
of peace; the other when he strikes down his adopted son. The gods functions are mainly to help in
war, and to aid the yearly yam crop, which is considered a man s crop. The highest members in the
religious organization are the most respected men in the society; during ceremonies, they don
costumes and play the role of the deceased ancestors. The primary influence women have in this
religion is in the role of the oracle, who is a woman, although she embodies a male god. It is the
women, also, who practice witchcraft, which is greatly feared in the tribes, but it should be noted that
even this is a passive force with only intangible connections to any physical effects.
When the Christian religion is introduced, preaching universal acceptance, many members of the clan
who are dissatisfied with the Ibo religion are drawn toward it. Some of the title less men described as
women in the tribe are immediately drawn to it. Nwoye, who dislikes the practice

The Political Terms Left And Right Were Devised During The...
The political terms left and right were devised during the French revolution to describe the seating
arrangement in the British parliament. Those who sat on the left were generally opposed the monarchy
and supported the revolutions, while those on the right supported the traditional institutions of the
British Empire. It was during the nineteen century that the word wing began following the term left
and right, usually with weary intent. Those considered left wing were unorthodox in their religious or
political view
A radical ideology of the left is defined as political positions or activities that accepts or supports
social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. Often those of left wing
ideology involve in concern for those in society who are perceived at a disadvantage relative to others
and a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished. They propose a
view of human beings living together harmoniously without great disparities in wealth or social
classes. On the other hand, those of the right wing radical ideology are political positions or activities
that view some forms of social inequality as either inevitable, natural, normal or desirable and
typically defend this position based on natural law, economics or traditions.
On radical ideology that might take place in the United States is capitalism. The capitalist theory isn t
a new one, rather it has been a part of the economic industries around the

Human Activities And Sustainable Water Management
Traditionally, human activities used to be taken into account as an external factor in environmental
issues. However there has been a growing recognition among environmental scientists that new and
integrative approaches of understanding beliefs and behaviours should be introduced to address the
current environmental problems. From the ancient period humans demanded water and they chose to
settle near streams for efficient water supply. Through the industrial era, water was still very important
to humans, but at the same time humanity caused the dramatic decline in the capacity of ecosystems:
human activities started to have destructive impacts on biogeochemical, hydrological, and ecological
systems. In Australia, the Murray Darling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paper will explore how important it is to apply social sciences into ecology and hydrology in a
narrower sense, and what effects and changes the socio hydrology in the Basin Plan has brought to the
water management in the MDB.
What is socio hydrology?
Human has always been in great need of fresh water for many purposes, and there are three main
categories of extractive uses of water from its natural system: agricultural irrigation, industrial and
commercial activities, and residential activities. In addition to extractive uses, in stream uses of water
are also essential for human in pollution dilution, maintenance of navigation paths, and protection of
biodiversity. These water usages can have adverse effects on the quality and quantity of freshwater,
and furthermore these impacts may not only threaten ecosystem, but also make transitions in
economic and social aspects. From this, it can be seen that society and ecosystems are interdependent.
However, traditional environmental scientists tended not to give great weight to the human factor in
their studies. However, the growth in global population leads to a rise in demand of freshwater, and
now it is unreasonable to deny the truth that humans make huge impacts on water resources. Human
induced environmental contamination creates severe

Jewish Identity Research Paper
A History of the Soviet Jew in Israel
The idea of Israel as a place of refuge for Soviet Jews has a troubled history. Israel has always
encouraged and assisted immigration and absorption as part of a pro immigration ideology and policy.
Israel is a safe haven for Jews. However, the heavy migration of the Soviet Jews into Israel caused
Israelis to rethink their past . The immigration of Soviet Jews to Israel brought significant social and
cultural changes to Israel in terms of the historical question about the nature of Jewish identity, as well
as put Judaism itself into question. The question, who is a Jew? formed the basis of historical claims
about the religious nature of legal Jewish identity. The Soviet Jews faced cultural displacement ...

However, Israeli Jews pride themselves on high moral standards and a policy of acceptance, factors
that caused them to question their judgment of the Soviet Jewish immigrants today. Israeli hostility
towards Russian immigrants can be seen in stereotypes and myths. Israelis think that the new wave of
immigrants are handicapped and are trying to exploit Israel. Russians are also stereotyped as thieves
and prostitutes (*).Youth are influenced by their elders. Since mature Israelis projected negative ideas
about Russian immigrants it became prevalent in their children. In a survey conducted by Hafia
University, two thirds of Israeli teenagers polled stated that they would not be close friends with a
Russian immigrant and believe that Russian immigrants take jobs from Israeli Jews (*). Undefined

Qualitative And Quantitative Research Design
Research and Program Evaluation
This paper will compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative research designs. While giving the
information, I will also elaborate on the types of research designs that they both implore. At the end of
the paper, the reader will have a better understanding for qualitative and quantitative research designs
and when to use each type of design.
Qualitative Research Design
Cresswell (2014) states qualitative methods rely on text and image data, have unique steps in data
analysis, and draw on diverse designs (p. 183). Qualitative research design is a research method used
by researchers studying human behaviors and habits. For example, a counselor generating some ideas
for a new inclusion program might want to study people s behaviors and preferences, to make sure
that the inclusion program might become feasible. Quick and Hall (2011) state The principal of
informed consent ensures that research participants are not coerced or persuaded into research and that
each individual fully understands the implications or participating (p. 2). This way the individual will
know what is going to happen during the research. A researcher will then use data collection
procedures with qualitative research. Qualitative observation is when the researcher will take field
notes about individuals and their behaviors. Qualitative interviews are the interviews that the
researcher conducts with the participants. The interviews can be face to face, on the

Frankenstein And Edward Scissorhands Similarities
Frankenstein vs. Edward Scissorhands Is an individual innately monstrous, or do experiences faced in
society affect how one will ultimately behave? The way society perceives an individual, whether
positively or negatively, plays a major role in how one will react to certain situations. In this essay, I
will discuss the similarities and the one difference between Frankenstein and Edward Scissorhands. I
will also discuss how Mary Shelley uses imagery in Frankenstein to emphasize the power of love
versus rejection.
Frankenstein and Edward Scissorhands share many similarities. They both did not go through the
physical process of birth, but were instead artificially created. Frankenstein was created out of dead
body parts. Victor Frankenstein spent many days and nights roaming around in vaults and charnel
houses to find body parts that he could use to complete his experiment (Shelley 45). Edward
Scissorhands was a human like robot who had scissors for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and the movie Edward Scissorhands directed by Tim
Burton, Frankenstein and Edward are unable to adapt into regular members of society due to the
effects of isolation by abandonment. Edward Scissorhands was isolated from society for several years
after his creator died. He was left alone in a massive mansion until he was discovered by an Avon
lady, Peg Boggs. This had a tremendous effect on his ability to conform to normal behavior and his
ability to interact with people. An example of this is when Peg brings Edward home for the first time.
He immediately scares her daughter, Kim, and accidently put a hole in the waterbed (Burton, Edward
Scissorhands). Frankenstein was isolated from the time of his birth. He was forced to face the harsh
realities of the world by himself. He wanders into the woods alone and confused. With no guidance,
Frankenstein failed miserably at adapting to social

Charles Phelan, An Alcoholic And So Called Bum
Although William Kennedy has written numerous novels about characters featured in Albany, Francis
Phelan is quite a unique character in the novel Ironweed. Francis Phelan , an alcoholic and so called
bum is struggling with his the responsibility of his past mistakes. He eventually comes back to his
hometown Albany after running away and is facing his responsibilities. Throughout Ironweed, Francis
is solely responsible for all the troubles in his life created by his own excessive drinking and
aggressive behavior, and his denial of responsibility by running away from his troubles, and that does
not make him a victim of his circumstances.
The first incident that Francis is responsible for is dropping his 13 day old infant Gerald. Francis is
solely responsible for this because should have been aware that as a father of a young child he should
not have been drinking since he was taking care of the child. Francis had the opportunity to control
alcohol intake which could have prevented the incident, but he chose to continue to drink for his
selfish pleasure. This lack of judgment shows that Francis was at fault for this accident. To avoid
responsibility, Francis claims that the three beers he had drunk that day were not enough to make him
drunk enough to drop Gerald. However, the reader knows that consuming any alcohol can make an
individual not aware of their surroundings. Even his friend Rudy thinks that it is odd that Gerald died
from just a fall. Rudy tells Francis,

Heroin Addiction Paper
Heroin is a highly addictive illegal drug, derived from morphine and used by millions of users around
the world. It is a naturally occurring opiate found in opium poppies and is primarily grown in
Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, Mexico, and Columbia (National, 2015), but has been illegal in the
United States since the early 1900 s. In its purest form, heroin is a fine white powder, but more often,
it is found to be rose gray, brown or black in color (Foundation, 2016). The coloring comes from
additives which have been used to dilute it (Foundation, 2016). These dilutes can include sugar,
caffeine or other substances (Foundation, 2016). In medicine, diamorphine, the main product found in
heroin, is used to treat sever pain, such as from a heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common effects of heroin addiction include liver disease, skin disease, clouded mental
functions, collapsed/scarred veins, blood clots, stroke, respiratory depression, seizures (Delta, 2016).
When people inject heroin, they are at risk of serious, long term viral infections such as HIV, Hepatitis
C, and Hepatitis B, as well as bacterial infections of the skin, bloodstream, and heart (Centers for
Disease and Control, 2015). Street heroin is sometimes cut with strychnine or other poisons
(Foundation, 2016). The various additives do not fully dissolve, and when they are injected into the
body, can clog the blood vessels that lead to the lungs, kidneys or brain (Foundation, 2016). This can
lead to infection or destruction of vital organs. Other common effects of heroin addiction include
overdose and in many unfortunate cases, death. People often use heroin along with other drugs or
alcohol. This practice is especially dangerous because it increases the risk of overdose (CDC, 2015). A
heroin overdose can cause slow and shallow breathing, coma, and possible death (CDC, 2015). Like
many other chemical dependencies, heroin addiction is a chronic, relapsing brain disease with a wide
range of medical consequences and severe withdrawal symptoms (Pew, 2015). Addicts fear the
unfavorable effects of withdrawal and often times do not have the proper health support to overcome

Monica Quilatan Professor Writing 37 ICS 249 9:00 to 10:50 26 October 2015 The US is appealing in
the eyes of other countries, and even ourselves, because of the free and equal characteristics we claim

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame Essay
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Love is a universal language. This popular quote from many movies and literary works describes the
importance of love, and how there are no limits or barriers when dealing with love. Many people
cannot even help whether or not they fall in love. There are many types of love and they need not be
between members of opposite sexes. In
Victor Hugo s novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
Quasimodo s love for Esmerelda is not as strong as his different sense of love for the Archdeacon,
Claude Frollo.
Quasimodo loves each person in a different manner, but is truer to the Archdeacon.

Thus the Archdeacon was the only person with whom Quasimodo maintained communication
(p.65). The hunchback feels a sense of love based on comradery and years of relations. He deeply
admires Claude
Frollo s religious faith and charity: that is, the charity shown to Quasimodo when he was only a
young, abandoned boy.
The two men have a complex system of hand gestures and sign language which they use to
communicate with each other. This illustrates their mutual correspondence and understanding.
Through these experiences and this upbringing, Quasimodo develops a Philial love for the
Archdeacon.
In the timeframe of this story, the late 1400 s and early 1500 s, the Catholic Church is a major factor
and authority in virtually all of a town s laws, transactions and business. This being the case, holding
the position as
Archdeacon, or head of the church, is a much coveted occupation. Quasimodo admires the
Archdeacon s powerful position. The hunchback himself enjoys authority as he possesses the power of
rule over people. This is visible when he is elected Pope of Fools: Quasimodo let himself be decked
out in them with a kind of proud docility. He was then made to sit down on a brightly colored litter.
Twelve officers of the Brotherhood of Fools lifted it to their shoulders. A bitter

New legal codes, introduced in 1960, were part of the effort to establish legal norms in administering
laws. Although socialist legality remained in force after 1960, the dictatorial and utopian trends
continued to influence the legal process. Persecution of political and religious dissenters continued,
but at the same time there was a tendency to decriminalize lesser offenses by handing them over to
people s courts and administrative agencies and dealing with them by education rather than by
incarceration.
By late 1986, the Gorbachev era was stressing anew the importance of individual rights in relation to
the state and criticizing those who violated procedural law in implementing Soviet justice. This
signaled a resurgence of socialist legality as the dominant trend. It should be noted, however, that
socialist legality itself still lacked features associated with Western jurisprudence. In particular, the
ultimate control of the legal system lay with the party leadership, which was not democratically
elected by, and therefore not responsible to, the public at large.

This statement aids in the argument that this hair dryer is to be admired. He goes on to tell us about
the weight of the object and that the motor is located inside of the handle. He compares this aspect of
the dryer to that of other dryers, stating that classic hair dryers have that L shape and a large motor,
creating an off centered and uncomfortable handle. In addition, Shin makes note of the three styling
attachments that snap onto the dryer. All of these features of the Supersonic hair dryer help to invoke
an aesthetic appeal that creates beauty and attractiveness to the overall product. By going into detail
and describing the functions of the different parts of the hair dryer, Shin attracts the reader to its
exquisite design and purpose. There is evidently more convince in the design of this dryer as well,
with it including a more comfortable grip. Slack and Wise solidify the importance of convenience with
technology by stating that, Technologies make life better because they make life more convenient; that
is, they save time, conquer space, and create comfort (Slack and Wise p.

Testosterone And Estrogen Research Paper
When an individual comes out as homosexual or bisexual, they most likely hear the words well that s
your choice. But for any one person who actually is homosexual, they know it s not a choice. So what
makes us this way? The answers are small chemicals that control our very lives. These chemicals are
the Androgens, Testosterone and Estrogen.
Testosterone and Estrogen are the male and female hormones that control how either gender develops.
Between weeks 8 and 14 of fetal development, before the fetus s sex is determined, tiny fetal ovaries
(which may turn into testes depending on the chromosome factor) and adrenal glands release the
embryo s own supply of androgens. These chemicals then cause chain reactions in the body, spurring
the growth of the genitals (determined by chromosomes), causing major growth in brain regions and
impactful change in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we feel attracted to an individual, we like the chemical balance or imbalance they possess.
Sexuality is also controlled by these chemicals. Estrogen and testosterone determine the gender an
individual is attracted to. But of course, there is a significant difference between sex and gender, both
affected by androgens. The gender that a person may feel can be changed by the levels of their
androgens. Their chromosomes may say one gender, but their brain says another. This all boils down to
evolution. Beauty, attraction, and sexuality is all part of Natural Selection. Humans with better genes
appear beautiful, saying I am healthy, I have good genes. However, this is futile, humans are no longer
physically evolving. We are in an age where we should value brains and productivity over beauty and
sex appeal. This is the remnants of the old vomeronasal organ that identifies other pheromones and
hormones in potential partners. These chemicals, among others, control our very

Relationship With Alison
It becomes known that Alison s father had occasional affairs with other men, including the babysitter,
Roy. Without the images that Bechdel creates, the extent of their scandalous relationship wouldn t be
revealed properly. Roy is first seen in the family library, drinking with Alison s father. Such a
suspension of the imaginary in the real was, after all, my father s stock in trade. And living with it took
a toll on the rest of us (65). The text is about the father liking Fitzgerald because of the characters
experiencing what he can t. Seeing this text over images of him with Roy, it s now understood that the
father is suspending his imagination of being with Roy. He lets Roy, an underage boy, drink sherry
with him until Alison s mother comes in and informs him that he s late to pick John up, which is how
we see the father s actions taking a toll on the family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the father gives Roy a side eye and a smirk while asking if he wants to come along.
Through the illustrations, I picked up that the father seemed to have sketchy intentions. In almost
every scene with Roy, he is offering him a drink. On page 94, there are a series of images where Roy
comes to help with yardwork, and the father first gives him a beer to drink before they start. This
reoccurring detail is something that made me feel slightly uneasy about the father s character.
Obviously, it doesn t bother me that he is gay, but the fact that he always wants to get the boys tipsy to
possibly influence their judgment, doesn t sit right with me. This very problem is what gets him in

Symptoms And Treatment Of Respiratory Diseases
Introduction of the respiratory system in health and disease
The module introduced knowledge on the respiratory anatomy and physiology, and how it relates to
respiratory diseases. In addition, it induced array of symptoms and signs of respiratory diseases, and
their pathogenesis and aetiology. Respiratory diseases are an epidemic in developing countries, with
high mortality rates such as tuberculosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. it s important for
biomedical scientists, to understand the symptoms and treatment strategies. The lecture focused on
diagnostic methods such as lung function testing, and its measurements. The respiratory system is a
collective group of organs that facilitate oxygenated processes and removal of carbon dioxide as by
product via the blood. Principle muscle mechanics of breathing and physiology of gas exchange was
revision for me (expiration and inspiration) as well as the conducting airway systems. Respiratory
system is indulged in many homeostatic processes like gas exchange and PH maintenance. Cells
require oxygen for energy production in the form of ATP to carry out the life processes.
What was new to me was knowing that the medulla is the respiratory control centre, and that an array
of receptors such as chemoreceptor s, control and influence respiration by detecting changes of carbon
dioxide concentrations in the blood an monitoring of blood gas levels. Another important point was
the transport mechanisms of Oxygen and carbon

Joseph Heller s Catch 22 Essay
Catch 22 Comparison Paper
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is a complex and intricate novel. Heller uses many themes, does not have
the story line in chronological order and often uses irony in his descriptions. Many of the themes can
be compared to other literature. One of the themes that can be compared is fear in war. The idea is that
the evils and cruelty of war can make a grown man go back into a fetal state. This can be seen in The
Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell and can be compared to the metaphor used in chapter five of
Catch 22. In this chapter Yossarian talks about the tight crawl space which led to the plexiglass
bombardier s compartment.
This can be looked at as the passageway to fear. Every time Yossarian climbs down ... Show more

When he went to tell ex PFC Wintergreen his theory though, he was pushed away. It was if he didn t
care to think about the situation. This shows the lack of respect for another human life. This can also
be seen in SlaughterHouse V. One of the things Billy thinks about is the value of human life. The
question he asks is how can God not value the life of people and let them be slaughtered. What he was
referring too was the concentration camps that he was in and saw people die at and the bombing of
Dresden where many people lost their lives. Billy Pilgrim felt that if God loved his people that he
wouldn t allow this to happen. So therefore there would be no God because the God that people have
learned about, loves everyone and would certainly not allow harm to anyone. This definitely takes aim
at religion and basically sees how much faith a person might have in God despite the evil he sees
around him. Another take on it is that why does God want people to be miserable. This is seen by Doc
Daneeka constantly asking Why Me . She talks about Hungry Joe and how Yossarian is constantly
worries about Hungry Joe. She starts out by sarcastically saying that she has no stress. She says that
she knows there is a war and there are people suffering. She can t figure out why she has to be one of
them. Another theme and imagery used in Catch 22 is the prison

Nat King Cole Essay
Nat quot;King quot; Cole

Nat gladly accepted, not knowing that this offer would eventually lead to the success and wealth that
had been eluding him for the most part. The King Cole Trio was about to be born.
Nat now had to form a group. The first person to come to Nat s mind was the drummer, Lee Young.
Young however, had different ideas, deciding that there was no room for a drummer at the Swanee.
Next Nat approached bassist Wesley Prince, whom he had met while playing the at club scene. Prince
decided to accept Nat s offer and along the way suggested the name of a guitarist named Oscar Moore,
who would become the final member of the trio. Originally called King Cole and his Swingsters, the
band eventually evolved to become the name that is famous today, the King Cole Trio.
The trio was a talented group. From the second they played together, it was clear that these men
performed with real chemistry, especially Nat and Oscar. Both men grew up listening to the same
great jazz artists, including: Louis Armstrong, Earl Hines, Jimmy Noone and Art Tatum, all of whom
had a profound influence on Nat s and Oscar s playing styles; yet there was something more when

Distribution of Work in the European Council
What is the influence of the President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy and High
Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton? The answer to
this question is very debatable. Catherine Ashton obtains many functions, the most known is that she
is the High representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy. But she is also the
First Vice President of the European Commission and has many other duties such as chairing the
Foreign Affairs council and representing the European Union in international fora. Only her titles
alone take up three lines to write, just imagine how can she manage to fulfill all these duties properly.
That s right, she can t do all those duties at 100 percent. And on the other hand we have Herman Van
Rompuy who is the President of the European Council and his duties include chairing the European
Council meeting and occasional representation of the EU in the international meetings. Although this
may seem as a tough job to do, in comparison with Catherine Ashton we could even say that he isn t
really doing anything. His chairing duty calls only twice per six months. This is utterly shocking. We
do not consider this optimal distribution of work. This also leads to creation of job positions, which
don t serve any real purpose. This is maybe one of the problems of EU, lack of common sense and
unreasonable complicating of things that could be solved much easier and in

The Discovery Of The Roller Coaster
Several hundred years ago, a man near St. Petersburg, Russia, built a structure that has defined
amusement worldwide. What started as a 70 foot tall wooden structure with steps leading up to a large
slide covered with ice has grown into what we now know as the death defying, thrill inducing, modern
day roller coaster. The people who enjoyed the early Russian form of the roller coaster led the way for
the French inventors to create their own version, which included waxed slides instead of ice covered
slides because of the difference in temperature between the frigid Russia and more temperate France.
There is great debate about which country, Russia or France, first invented the wheeled coaster, but the

considering that Thompson only charged a nickel per ride. After Thompson got things rolling , many
other inventors and investors saw the profit in roller coasters and contributed to what is now known as
the Golden Age of Roller Coasters, the 1920s. During this time, nearly 2,000 coasters opened up
around the country, and even into Canada. From the New York Rye Beach Aeroplane to the Crystal
Beach Cyclone in Canada, roller coasters had truly taken off. Unfortunately for roller coaster
enthusiasts, though, the economic and social changes of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s brought a sharp
decline in the number of people with disposable income enough to attend amusement parks and ride
roller coasters. As a result, few new ones were built and many were torn down during this time period.
Very few of the Golden Age coasters are still in use today. Luckily, one roller coaster reversed this
downward slump and raced into what is now the modern age of roller coasters. Kings Island, an

Monster s Ball By Marc Forster
Directed by Marc Forster, the 2001 film, Monster s Ball is an Academy Award winning film which has
been extensively criticized by American Studies scholars. They critique the aspects of the social
construction of masculinity, race, and the way in which women are constructed as needing men in
their lives. Essentially, the film s narrative uses hypermasculinity in a way that supports the
sexulization of women. Monster s Ball follows the life of two individuals who are connected in a
unique way. Leticia Musgrove, a black woman whose husband was killed on death row along with
Hank Grotowski, the officer who executed Leticia s husband are the main characters of the film.

Characteristics Of A Successful Time Period During Late...
The traits that define a successful time period in late Imperial China are necessary expansion, unifying
the people, and the construction of an effective and incorrupt political structure. The effects of meeting
these criteria is sustained influence in following Chinese time periods both short term and long term,
as other rulers will benefit from what their predecessors have accomplished, or try to imitate
successful policies. As a team, the Kangxi emperor and his successor, the Yongzheng emperor, were
able to achieve all of the goals for a prosperous period in Chinese history. Although it was a relatively
short period, the Kangxi and Yongzheng emperor s times on the Qing throne were extremely
complementary, and ultimately came together to form the most successful time period in late Imperial
China.
The Kangxi emperor s greatest contributions to the Qing Dynasty were his impressive military forces
used to expand his lands and keep peace within them, and his ability to establish a foundation for
order in those lands. The Kangxi emperor was on the throne for sixty one years, and brought
expansion and a stable government to the Manchu Qing dynasty by integrating Manchu and Chinese

Towards the start of the 14th century, a renewed passion for the Greek and Roman classics emerged,

more interested in themselves, their own independence, and their own personal expression, while
renewing their admiration for worldly pleasures in the here and now. Furthermore, Humanism has

while in 2016 more than 40,000 students make up each undergraduate level. Every year this number

Persuasive Essay On Wild Horses
Wild horses are something that most people know about, at least to an extent. To many they are the
embodiment of the word freedom , they are creatures that have been around for centuries roaming free
in the mountains and wilderness, pretty much left unchecked except by their natural predators.
Gorgeous, majestic, and full of spirit are words that can all be used to describe wild horses and
pictures of them make great desktop backgrounds and calendars that show a peaceful and wonderful
view of nature. What, then, is the issue with the wild horses and why are there arguements over what
needs to be done with them? As a brief explanation wild horses are becoming a nuisance for everyone
around them the ecosystem and humans alike. When left unchecked, as they had been before, what
happens, and why is it such a big deal? One very big word can explain it all: Overpopulation.
Eventually the overpopulation of these beasts would cause, and already has started to cause, an
imbalance and irreversible damage in the ecosystems they roam in. Problems that would, and do,
occur would be the fact that there would not be enough food or water for them as well as other
herbivores, which, in turn, would cause omnivores and carnivores to lack a food source once their
prey starts dying out due to starvation. Some species may even die out, plants and animals alike, if
something is not done sooner rather than later. Poor grazing management would be included into the
overpopulation category simply because the more horses there are the more grasses and other plants
they would need to eat on a daily basis. Not all of the plant depletion was caused by the horses,
however. They had a huge help from one particular species: Humans. Humans have long since
conquered many areas in the world and have taken much of the land from the animals that occupy the
area alongside them, even wiping out whole species within a short time period. Very little space is left
for creatures, like the wild horses, to roam and graze because ranchers were allowing their cattle to
graze in the same spots as the wild animals who then had to find other sources of food and ultimately
caused the entire recourse to either be gone completely or very sparce. Now the horses

The Geologic Scale Of Dinosaurs
The earth has existed for about 4.6 billion years; the geologic scale divides all of these years into
sections, much like chapters in a book. Each of these sections is unique because it shows all of the
changes on earth s surface throughout the years. The largest of these sections on the geologic scale is
eons. Eons are also divided into another two sections call ears. Eras are then divided into periods and
then periods are divided into epochs. The reasons why the sections have been divided are either
because major organisms developed or went extinct. Organisms go extinct because they either run out
of space or food, or the environment changes making it hard for some organisms to survive the new
environment (Ghose). Dinosaurs started developing after a mass extinction of the Paleozoic Era just
about 125 million years ago. Dinosaurs lived through the Mesozoic Era then later died off during
another mass extinction about 65 million years ago, starting the beginning of the Cenozoic Era.
Almost all dinosaurs and half of the other plants and animals went extinct, some scientist think that an
asteroid hit the earth wiping out everything in sight. At the beginning of the Cenozoic Era, which still
continues today, scientist have a better understanding of this era because humans are living through it
and are able to document everything that happens throughout the years. (Gammon) When the average
person thinks of dinosaurs they envision a big ferocious reptile. Which is mainly true but

Julius Caesar Dbq
Who killed Julius Caesar? Julius Caesar was a beloved dictator. The lower class was pleased with
Caesar for giving them money and bringing peace and safety to Rome. Though some people envied
his power. On March 15, 44 B.C. Caesar was found murdered at the senate house. The senate says it
was only an action of self defense, but can we really trust them? Those who were responsible for the
assassination of Julius Caesar were Brutus, Cassius and members of the senate. First, Brutus is guilty
in the assassination of Caesar. Using different sources we can determine that Brutus is guilty. In
document C, Brutus persuades Caesar to go to the senate despite the warnings that Caesar received.
Brutus must have been up to something since he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document B shows a private letter found in the hand of Caesar that warned of the senate s plan. It
states, My lord, you must not attend the meeting at the senate today. I have heard of a great conspiracy
among the senators to take your very life. This quote shows that the senate was guilty because they
had planned to kill Caesar at their meeting. In document E many senators hated Caesar for his desired
power. In document D eyewitnesses claim the death of Caesar was only an act of self defense. It says,
The result was his death. The death of Julius Caesar, but I assure you, we were only attempting to
calm him when he decided to strike at anyone and everyone with his dagger. This is not believable
because when the senate tried to calm Caesar and he would not calm they probably decided to kill him
otherwise he would hurt people. In document C it mentions many rumors that were being heard about
the senate s plans to kill Caesar. As you can see the senate was responsible for the death of Julius

Causes And Effects Of Unemployment
Causes and Effects of Unemployment Travis Epling Strayer University ENG 105 Jeanette Trammel
9/14/14 Causes and Effects of Unemployment There are many reasons for unemployment in the
United States and around the world. Some of these causes are created by the individual and others are
out of their control. No matter what the cause for unemployment, it has a devastating effect on the
individual, family, and economy. Unemployment defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica is the
condition of one who is capable of working, actively seeking work, but is unable to find any work. In
addition, to define a person as unemployed, the person must be an active member of the labor force in
search of work. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monetary Effects Because unemployed people receive benefits from the government, there is a
correlation between unemployment and increased government spending. The Employment Act of
1946 gave the government the responsibility of maintaining a high employment level of labor and
price stability. The effects of this increased spending for unemployment benefits is that other
government programs suffer a loss in their financial support. It also causes a decrease in the growth of
the GDP. There are less people working so less goods and services are being produced and with fewer
people to spend money in the economy there are less goods and services being purchased. This causes
a decrease in demand of products and causes producers to lower their selling price to avoid a surplus.
When the producer lowers their selling price, it causes the consumer price index to fall. Social Effects
Various social effects spring from the people who are unemployed. They affect both our communities
and the unemployed. The skills and knowledge from the unemployed is lost to our economy which
keeps our economy from reaching its full potential. There is also an increase in crime and social strife
during times of high unemployment. Bruce Weinberg, associate professor of economics at Ohio State
University, Eric Gould, Hebrew University, and David Mustard, University of Georgia conducted a
study of the national crime rates between 1979 and 1997 and found a direct correlation in falling

Explain How Far Nelsons Fits into the Overall Development...
If we look at Nelsons Industry and work, its evidence is similar to other Northern parts of Britain
because it teaches us that Nelson changed from being very rural to an industrialised area. Farm lands
were replaced by factories. This is typical to what happened in other textile towns. This is reinforced
by source N. The two maps show us the difference that occurred in 57 years. It shows the 1844
version and 1901 version of Nelson. In 1844 we can see that most of the area was of rural life and
poorly populated however 57 years later it shows us a much more industrialised version with very
crowded areas. A number of Textile Factories were built, which lead people migrating from other
towns to find work.
Mills were intentionally built ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Source L signifies that there was no age limit for people to start working. Usually a family works
together...father, mother, sons and daughters . Many children started work at the age of 5. Some
children were even set out to carry out very inappropriate jobs, such as picking up pieces of left over
cotton from under working machines. It shows that employees are happy working together and no
harm has been caused towards them. This is very dangerous and would result in causing major injury.
However this source has been written by William Ecroyd the founder of the Ecroyd factory. We cannot
trust this source to a great extent because Ecroyd may just want to give his mill a good name and may
be mendacious about what he is writing.
After World War II Britain could no longer afford the expense of administering one quarter of the
world s population, it wanted to protect its own land which comprised 1/600th area of World , the
current UK [7]. In the mid 1900 s, Britain lost its empire. This meant that Britain could no longer
trade with the other countries they had power over. Therefore a huge majority of mills, weaving sheds,
coal mines and factories had closed down due to government regulations. Britain stopped exporting
and importing goods and this directed to a lot of people not having employment. This then gave way
to China, Russia and the USA to embark upon the golden opportunity and take over.

  • 2. Notion of Balance in Things Fall Apart by Achebe Essay Notion of Balance in Things Fall Apart by Achebe The notion of balance in Achebe s novel is an important theme throughout the book. Beginning with the excerpt from Yeats s poem, The Second Coming, the concept of balance is stressed as important, for without balance, order is lost. In the novel, there are many systems of balance which the Ibo culture seems to depend upon. It is when these systems are upset that things fall apart. Okonkwo, the Ibo religion, and ultimately, the Ibos autonomy were brought to their demise by an extreme imbalance between their male and female aspects. These male and female aspects can be generally be described as the external, physical strength of the male; and the internal, passive, and nurturing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Okonkwo is eventually defeated when he finds that his physical strength is not powerful enough to overcome the white men, and, unable to accept this, he hangs himself. The Ibo Religion s Demise The Ibo religion falls in much the same way. This religion is centered about the worship of male gods and ancestors. The female god among these may be the Earth goddess, but Okonkwo offends this goddess twice in the story to save his masculine image: once when he beats his wife during the week of peace; the other when he strikes down his adopted son. The gods functions are mainly to help in war, and to aid the yearly yam crop, which is considered a man s crop. The highest members in the religious organization are the most respected men in the society; during ceremonies, they don costumes and play the role of the deceased ancestors. The primary influence women have in this religion is in the role of the oracle, who is a woman, although she embodies a male god. It is the women, also, who practice witchcraft, which is greatly feared in the tribes, but it should be noted that even this is a passive force with only intangible connections to any physical effects. When the Christian religion is introduced, preaching universal acceptance, many members of the clan who are dissatisfied with the Ibo religion are drawn toward it. Some of the title less men described as women in the tribe are immediately drawn to it. Nwoye, who dislikes the practice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Political Terms Left And Right Were Devised During The... The political terms left and right were devised during the French revolution to describe the seating arrangement in the British parliament. Those who sat on the left were generally opposed the monarchy and supported the revolutions, while those on the right supported the traditional institutions of the British Empire. It was during the nineteen century that the word wing began following the term left and right, usually with weary intent. Those considered left wing were unorthodox in their religious or political view A radical ideology of the left is defined as political positions or activities that accepts or supports social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. Often those of left wing ideology involve in concern for those in society who are perceived at a disadvantage relative to others and a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished. They propose a view of human beings living together harmoniously without great disparities in wealth or social classes. On the other hand, those of the right wing radical ideology are political positions or activities that view some forms of social inequality as either inevitable, natural, normal or desirable and typically defend this position based on natural law, economics or traditions. On radical ideology that might take place in the United States is capitalism. The capitalist theory isn t a new one, rather it has been a part of the economic industries around the ... • 4. Human Activities And Sustainable Water Management Traditionally, human activities used to be taken into account as an external factor in environmental issues. However there has been a growing recognition among environmental scientists that new and integrative approaches of understanding beliefs and behaviours should be introduced to address the current environmental problems. From the ancient period humans demanded water and they chose to settle near streams for efficient water supply. Through the industrial era, water was still very important to humans, but at the same time humanity caused the dramatic decline in the capacity of ecosystems: human activities started to have destructive impacts on biogeochemical, hydrological, and ecological systems. In Australia, the Murray Darling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paper will explore how important it is to apply social sciences into ecology and hydrology in a narrower sense, and what effects and changes the socio hydrology in the Basin Plan has brought to the water management in the MDB. What is socio hydrology? Human has always been in great need of fresh water for many purposes, and there are three main categories of extractive uses of water from its natural system: agricultural irrigation, industrial and commercial activities, and residential activities. In addition to extractive uses, in stream uses of water are also essential for human in pollution dilution, maintenance of navigation paths, and protection of biodiversity. These water usages can have adverse effects on the quality and quantity of freshwater, and furthermore these impacts may not only threaten ecosystem, but also make transitions in economic and social aspects. From this, it can be seen that society and ecosystems are interdependent. However, traditional environmental scientists tended not to give great weight to the human factor in their studies. However, the growth in global population leads to a rise in demand of freshwater, and now it is unreasonable to deny the truth that humans make huge impacts on water resources. The immigration of Soviet Jews to Israel brought significant social and cultural changes to Israel in terms of the historical question about the nature of Jewish identity, as well as put Judaism itself into question. • 6. Qualitative And Quantitative Research Design Research and Program Evaluation This paper will compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative research designs. While giving the information, I will also elaborate on the types of research designs that they both implore. At the end of the paper, the reader will have a better understanding for qualitative and quantitative research designs and when to use each type of design. Qualitative Research Design Cresswell (2014) states qualitative methods rely on text and image data, have unique steps in data analysis, and draw on diverse designs (p. 183). Qualitative research design is a research method used by researchers studying human behaviors and habits. For example, a counselor generating some ideas for a new inclusion program might want to study people s behaviors and preferences, to make sure that the inclusion program might become feasible. Quick and Hall (2011) state The principal of informed consent ensures that research participants are not coerced or persuaded into research and that each individual fully understands the implications or participating (p. 2). This way the individual will know what is going to happen during the research. A researcher will then use data collection procedures with qualitative research. Qualitative observation is when the researcher will take field notes about individuals and their behaviors. Qualitative interviews are the interviews that the researcher conducts with the participants. The interviews can be face to face, on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way society perceives an individual, whether positively or negatively, plays a major role in how one will react to certain situations. In this essay, I will discuss the similarities and the one difference between Frankenstein and Edward Scissorhands. I will also discuss how Mary Shelley uses imagery in Frankenstein to emphasize the power of love versus rejection. Frankenstein and Edward Scissorhands share many similarities. They both did not go through the physical process of birth, but were instead artificially created. Frankenstein was created out of dead body parts. This had a tremendous effect on his ability to conform to normal behavior and his ability to interact with people. An example of this is when Peg brings Edward home for the first time. Francis Phelan , an alcoholic and so called bum is struggling with his the responsibility of his past mistakes. Throughout Ironweed, Francis is solely responsible for all the troubles in his life created by his own excessive drinking and aggressive behavior, and his denial of responsibility by running away from his troubles, and that does not make him a victim of his circumstances. The first incident that Francis is responsible for is dropping his 13 day old infant Gerald. Francis had the opportunity to control alcohol intake which could have prevented the incident, but he chose to continue to drink for his selfish pleasure. To avoid responsibility, Francis claims that the three beers he had drunk that day were not enough to make him drunk enough to drop Gerald. • 11. Heroin Addiction Paper Heroin is a highly addictive illegal drug, derived from morphine and used by millions of users around the world. It is a naturally occurring opiate found in opium poppies and is primarily grown in Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, Mexico, and Columbia (National, 2015), but has been illegal in the United States since the early 1900 s. In its purest form, heroin is a fine white powder, but more often, it is found to be rose gray, brown or black in color (Foundation, 2016). The coloring comes from additives which have been used to dilute it (Foundation, 2016). These dilutes can include sugar, caffeine or other substances (Foundation, 2016). The two men have a complex system of hand gestures and sign language which they use to communicate with each other. This illustrates their mutual correspondence and understanding. Through these experiences and this upbringing, Quasimodo develops a Philial love for the Archdeacon. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New legal codes, introduced in 1960, were part of the effort to establish legal norms in administering laws. Although socialist legality remained in force after 1960, the dictatorial and utopian trends continued to influence the legal process. Persecution of political and religious dissenters continued, but at the same time there was a tendency to decriminalize lesser offenses by handing them over to people s courts and administrative agencies and dealing with them by education rather than by incarceration. By late 1986, the Gorbachev era was stressing anew the importance of individual rights in relation to the state and criticizing those who violated procedural law in implementing Soviet justice. This signaled a resurgence of socialist legality as the dominant trend. It should be noted, however, that socialist legality itself still lacked features associated with Western jurisprudence. In particular, the ultimate control of the legal system lay with the party leadership, which was not democratically elected by, and therefore not responsible to, the public at large. Between weeks 8 and 14 of fetal development, before the fetus s sex is determined, tiny fetal ovaries (which may turn into testes depending on the chromosome factor) and adrenal glands release the embryo s own supply of androgens. The students are very excited to grow a garden, but animals have been eating the goods, so a fence needs to be put in. The total cost to fence in the garden will be $159. The class calculated this by finding the perimeter (in feet) and multiplying it by the cost per foot of fence, $1.50. The Pythagorean Theorem a2 +b2=c2 helped find the hypotenuses of the two right triangles that the garden can be broken into, which helped the find the perimeter. Nat now had to form a group. The first person to come to Nat s mind was the drummer, Lee Young. Young however, had different ideas, deciding that there was no room for a drummer at the Swanee. Next Nat approached bassist Wesley Prince, whom he had met while playing the at club scene. Prince decided to accept Nat s offer and along the way suggested the name of a guitarist named Oscar Moore, who would become the final member of the trio. Distribution of Work in the European Council What is the influence of the President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton? The answer to this question is very debatable. Catherine Ashton obtains many functions, the most known is that she is the High representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy. But she is also the First Vice President of the European Commission and has many other duties such as chairing the Foreign Affairs council and representing the European Union in international fora. Only her titles alone take up three lines to write, just imagine how can she manage to fulfill all these duties properly. That s right, she can t do all those duties at 100 percent. And on the other hand we have Herman Van Rompuy who is the President of the European Council and his duties include chairing the European Council meeting and occasional representation of the EU in the international meetings. Although this may seem as a tough job to do, in comparison with Catherine Ashton we could even say that he isn t really doing anything. His chairing duty calls only twice per six months. This is utterly shocking. We do not consider this optimal distribution of work. This also leads to creation of job positions, which don t serve any real purpose. What started as a 70 foot tall wooden structure with steps leading up to a large slide covered with ice has grown into what we now know as the death defying, thrill inducing, modern day roller coaster. The people who enjoyed the early Russian form of the roller coaster led the way for the French inventors to create their own version, which included waxed slides instead of ice covered slides because of the difference in temperature between the frigid Russia and more temperate France. His roller coaster made over $600 per day the summer it opened, which is amazing considering that Thompson only charged a nickel per ride. After Thompson got things rolling , many other inventors and investors saw the profit in roller coasters and contributed to what is now known as the Golden Age of Roller Coasters, the 1920s. During this time, nearly 2,000 coasters opened up around the country, and even into Canada. From the New York Rye Beach Aeroplane to the Crystal Beach Cyclone in Canada, roller coasters had truly taken off. Unfortunately for roller coaster enthusiasts, though, the economic and social changes of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s brought a sharp decline in the number of people with disposable income enough to attend amusement parks and ride roller coasters. As a result, few new ones were built and many were torn down during this time period. Very few of the Golden Age coasters are still in use today. The effects of meeting these criteria is sustained influence in following Chinese time periods both short term and long term, as other rulers will benefit from what their predecessors have accomplished, or try to imitate successful policies. As a team, the Kangxi emperor and his successor, the Yongzheng emperor, were able to achieve all of the goals for a prosperous period in Chinese history. • 41. Persuasive Essay On Wild Horses Wild horses are something that most people know about, at least to an extent. To many they are the embodiment of the word freedom , they are creatures that have been around for centuries roaming free in the mountains and wilderness, pretty much left unchecked except by their natural predators. Gorgeous, majestic, and full of spirit are words that can all be used to describe wild horses and pictures of them make great desktop backgrounds and calendars that show a peaceful and wonderful view of nature. What, then, is the issue with the wild horses and why are there arguements over what needs to be done with them? As a brief explanation wild horses are becoming a nuisance for everyone around them the ecosystem and humans alike. When left unchecked, as they had been before, what happens, and why is it such a big deal? One very big word can explain it all: Overpopulation. Eventually the overpopulation of these beasts would cause, and already has started to cause, an imbalance and irreversible damage in the ecosystems they roam in. Problems that would, and do, occur would be the fact that there would not be enough food or water for them as well as other herbivores, which, in turn, would cause omnivores and carnivores to lack a food source once their prey starts dying out due to starvation. Some species may even die out, plants and animals alike, if something is not done sooner rather than later. Poor grazing management would be included into the overpopulation category simply because the more horses there are the more grasses and other plants they would need to eat on a daily basis. Not all of the plant depletion was caused by the horses, however. They had a huge help from one particular species: Humans. Humans have long since conquered many areas in the world and have taken much of the land from the animals that occupy the area alongside them, even wiping out whole species within a short time period. Very little space is left for creatures, like the wild horses, to roam and graze because ranchers were allowing their cattle to graze in the same spots as the wild animals who then had to find other sources of food and ultimately caused the entire recourse to either be gone completely or very sparce. Now the horses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Geologic Scale Of Dinosaurs The earth has existed for about 4.6 billion years; the geologic scale divides all of these years into sections, much like chapters in a book. Each of these sections is unique because it shows all of the changes on earth s surface throughout the years. The largest of these sections on the geologic scale is eons. Eons are also divided into another two sections call ears. Eras are then divided into periods and then periods are divided into epochs. The reasons why the sections have been divided are either because major organisms developed or went extinct. Organisms go extinct because they either run out of space or food, or the environment changes making it hard for some organisms to survive the new environment (Ghose). Dinosaurs started developing after a mass extinction of the Paleozoic Era just about 125 million years ago. Dinosaurs lived through the Mesozoic Era then later died off during another mass extinction about 65 million years ago, starting the beginning of the Cenozoic Era. Almost all dinosaurs and half of the other plants and animals went extinct, some scientist think that an asteroid hit the earth wiping out everything in sight. At the beginning of the Cenozoic Era, which still continues today, scientist have a better understanding of this era because humans are living through it and are able to document everything that happens throughout the years. Some of these causes are created by the individual and others are out of their control. No matter what the cause for unemployment, it has a devastating effect on the individual, family, and economy. Unemployment defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica is the condition of one who is capable of working, actively seeking work, but is unable to find any work. In addition, to define a person as unemployed, the person must be an active member of the labor force in search of work. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monetary Effects Because unemployed people receive benefits from the government, there is a correlation between unemployment and increased government spending. The Employment Act of 1946 gave the government the responsibility of maintaining a high employment level of labor and price stability. The effects of this increased spending for unemployment benefits is that other government programs suffer a loss in their financial support. It also causes a decrease in the growth of the GDP. There are less people working so less goods and services are being produced and with fewer people to spend money in the economy there are less goods and services being purchased. This causes a decrease in demand of products and causes producers to lower their selling price to avoid a surplus. When the producer lowers their selling price, it causes the consumer price index to fall. Social Effects Various social effects spring from the people who are unemployed. They affect both our communities and the unemployed. The skills and knowledge from the unemployed is lost to our economy which keeps our economy from reaching its full potential. There is also an increase in crime and social strife during times of high unemployment.
