Us Air Flight 1549 Research Paper
On January 15, 2009, about 3:27 PM eastern standard time, US Airways flight 1549, an Airbus
Industrie A320 214, N106US, piloted by First Officer Jeffrey Skiles and monitored by Captain
Chesley B. Sully Sullenberger was scheduled for domestic commercial flight from LaGuardia Airport,
New York City, New York to Seattle Tacoma International Airport in SeaTac, Washington experienced
loss of thrust in both engines after encountering multiple bird strike during its take off and was ditched
on the Hudson River roughly eight miles from LaGuardia Airport, New York City, New York about
two minutes before the in flight event occurred. All 155 occupants safely evacuated the airplane by the
forward and over wing exits and were rescued from nearby watercraft. ... Show more content on

Damages are visible to the flaps and the right engine while the fuselage looks almost undamaged
shown in figure 3. Figure 3: Crane lifts N106US back onto dry ground
The right engine was found attached to the wing with fractures and deformation in several locations of
the nacelle while the left engine was found eight days after the accident, separated near the initial
impact location with the waters (Knezevic). Both engines were sent to the Smithsonian Institution for
analysis. Around the time of the incident, they were able to find feather and tissue samples from both
engines (shown in figure 4) but wasn t able to discriminate between multiple birds within the same
species, sex, and maturity level (National). A more detailed DNA analysis was completed in February
2010 and determined that the left engine contained both male and female Canada geese remains,
indicating that the engine ingested at least two geese. The average length can range between 25 to 45
inches while the average weight of a male Canada goose is from 3 to 13 pounds, and the average
weight of a female goose is from 3 to 11 pounds (Canada). The Smithsonian Institution report stated
that only male Canada goose remains were found in the right engine, suggesting that it might have
only ingested one bird; however, a comparison of the physical features

Contributions Of Eugene Sorel
George Eugene Sorel was a philosopher and a theorist in sorelianism. He is remembered because of
his power to the myth which inspired the Marxists, the fascists, and the anarchists together with
defending violence. He openly claimed to be a Marxist and a socialist. Sorel joined the political world
and worked on his first French Marxist journal, participated in a debate and critics with Marxism.
Sorel associated with Charles Maurras without sharing its nationalism or political program. He came
together with Jean Varriot and wrote a journal on independence. He was against the First World War in
1914 and gave thanks to the Russian revolution which was altering published as an official Soviet
Union. In less than a year, Sorel praised the Italian fascist leader due to his great knowledge in
politics.
Sorel started as a marginal Marxist and an analyst of Marx s economies and philosophy. He then
embraced revisionism. He has been a political monarchist before changing to Marxism in the 1890s.
He tried to change the theories of Marxism with his ideas, the example he saw the Marxism had
irrational and neglected Karl Marx s rationalism. Sorel was a voluntarism Marxism who believed in
the important will and preferring direct action.
Sorelianism as advanced by Sorel (1999) advocated for classical tradition and believed that the victory
of the proletariat in the class struggle could be achieved only through the power of myth and general
strike. Sorel was a revisionist of Marxism but

Ceruloplasmin
Ceruloplasmin is a serum ferroxidase that carries more than 90 % of copper in plasma and plays an
important role in iron homeostasis as well as antioxidative functions [105]. Ceruloplasmin best known
as copper binding protein, found in the plasma of vertebrate species, and is mainly synthesized by the
liver [106]. After ceruloplasmin was originally isolated from plasma by Holmberg and Laurell [107],
this protein quickly became the subject of many investigations concerning its function, molecular
structure and the physical properties of the copper ions bound to it [106, 108 111]. The ceruloplasmin
gene was identified on the human 3q25 chromosome with a molecular weight of ~132 kDa [112]. The
molecule is composed of six compact domains, with large loop insertions, and is characterized by the
presence of three types of spectroscopically distinct copper sites. ... Show more content on

The ceruloplasmin protein contains more than 90% of copper in the plasma, but rather than strictly
functioning in copper metabolism, its main function appears to be a modulator of iron efflux via
oxidation [106, 108, 109]. Ceruloplasmin has been known to possess ferroxidase activity, the ability to
oxidize ferrous to ferric iron. This activity is required for its function in iron homeostasis and is
thought to reduce oxidative stress by inhibition of the Fenton reaction which uses Fe2+ to generate
reactive oxygen species (ROS) [106, 110]. Ceruloplasmin has also been demonstrated to function as
an acute phase protein activated by the host immune system during stress conditions

Kate Chopin s The Awakening
For Centuries, man has been caught in the middle of a tug of war between two influences. One
influence stems from society, an Apollonian lifestyle of order, structure, responsibility, while the other
is the individual s inner Dionysian desire for indulgence, impulsiveness, freedom. In Kate Chopin s
novella The Awakening, Chopin depicts Apollonian and Dionysian values through the description of
certain settings and characters, while also depicting the dramatic inner battle that the protagonist, Edna
Pontellier, experiences between these two influences. By showing the pull that Edna feels between the
societal Apollonian lifestyle of structure and confinement versus the individual based Dionysian
lifestyle of freedom, Chopin implies that women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chopin, by including Apollonian and Dionysian symbols throughout the novel, and by detailing the
pull Edna feels between the two lifestyle, depicts Edna as having a choice in living an Apollonian or a
Dionysian life, and, thereby, depicts that all women of her time have this choice as well. The
overarching theme of The Awakening is that women in society must make one of two distinct choices
the choice to live according to society or the choice to live with individuality. Edna is constantly
presented with two opposing choices and feels the conflict created from the pull of both within her;
eventually, she makes her choice. Edna s distinct choice leads to a distinct path. Therefore, not only is
every woman presented with two distinct choices, but those two choices lead to two distinct paths of
life. If a woman is brave enough to defy societal expectations, then she will be known as
Mademoiselle Reisz is known, as the most disagreeable and unpopular woman who ever lived in
Bienville Street (59). Chopin, additionally, makes the remark that woman who make the bold choice
to live for themselves will ultimately experience a feeling of having descended in the social scale, with
a corresponding sense of having risen in the spiritual , as Edna does (94). Life is not guaranteed to be
beautiful when one chooses

The Battle Of The World War
It is generally considered that the Pacific War began on 7/8 December 1941, when Japan invaded
Thailand and attacked the British Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong as well as America s state of
Hawaii, where they bombed the military bases there. Australia entered World War II shortly after the
invasion of Poland, declaring war on Germany on 3rd September 1939. By the end of the war, almost
a million Australians had served in the armed forces, who fought primarily in the European theatre,
North African campaign, and the South Pacific theatre. The Second World War saw the involvement of
Australian troops more than ever and the closest to home. In addition, for the first time in history,
attacks were aimed at mainland Australia. According to esteemed British author and military historian
Antony Beevor, The Second World War was such a huge combination of different conflicts that it s
almost impossible to point to a single battle as a turning point During the war some turning points for
the Allies were; The Fall of Singapore, The Bombing of Darwin, The Battle of the Coral Sea, The
Battle of Midway and The Kokoda Campaign. The United States Forces also played a big role in the
war in The Pacific Theatre and the turning points for The Australian Forces. The Japanese Bombing of
Pearl Harbour on 7th December 1941 was the starting point of the war in The Pacific Theatre and a
significant event for the Allies, Australia in particular. The attack severely damaged the main

The First Year Writing Program
Throughout the semester, the first year writing program gave students the privilege to become
improved writers. Students received the opportunity to identify their strengths and weaknesses and
come to a conclusion on what makes favorable writing. While writing the assigned essays this
semester, I realized being able to read and write about something that is relatable is extremely critical.
When an individual can relate to what they are reading, they will be more engaged compared to
reading a piece that fails to connect to them. Although the first year writing program succeeded in
building up better writers, there is always room for improvement. The program could consider new
pieces of work and content that is recent that students can form an opinion on and relate to.
While writing, individuals should always keep in mind, honesty, personal experience, and sending a
message. Incorporating these values into a paper results in a piece of writing that is relatable and clear
to understand. Personal experience and examples provide a reasonable amount of evidence for a
reader. This will show that the topic being written about can happen and impact any individual. Also,
honesty is crucial when wanting to make a point about the topic being written about. Writing that
sends a message is essential due to the fact that the reader can identify that the author is writing for a
purpose and wants the reader to take away a lesson or idea from reading that piece.
Incidentally, my goals

Neil Shubin s Your Inner Fish
There are many differences present between species in the animal kingdom. There are also many
variations of breeds, mutations within the same species, behavior, etc. Neil Shubin s Your Inner Fish
focuses on the similarities rather than differences of behaviors, variation in animal psychology, and
morphology because of habitat. This book emphasizes three types of evidence. The first are the
similarities between body parts of living creatures to compare common ancestry. The second are the
indications from microbiology to also compare common ancestry. Finally, the details provided of the
missing link between amphibians and fish. In the first couple of chapters of his book, Shubin points
out how organs in various creatures are extremely similar. He focuses in on the resemblances in the
design of the body, hands, heads, nose, eyes, and ears. As Shubin writes, When you look into eyes,
forget about romance, creation, and the windows into the soul. With their molecules, genes, and
tissues derived from microbes, jellyfish, worms, and flies, you see an entire menagerie.

It was discovered that the fish had resided in a shallow stream but obtained arm and leg bones similar

Chemical Warfare in World War I Essay
Juliana Amenta

Mr. Zastrow
Chemical Warfare During World War 1 The first World War has been reported to be one of the most
brutal wars in the history of time for many reasons. One of those reasons was strategic usage of
chemical warfare. Chemical gas was used on both sides of the line, which turned out to be fatal for
many. World War I was mostly fought in the trenches, where soldiers lived in deep, v shaped holes or
underground bunkers. Both sides would occupy these trenches in order to escape from the constant
stream of bullets. These battles often ended in a standoff, or tie, which helped the introduction of a
different, brand new style of fighting that included the use of chemicals. These chemicals had a range

This gas may cause temporary blindness and inflammation of the nose and throat of the victim. A gas
mask would easily offer good protection against this gas. This chemical and any chemical with
bromide were quite popular during World War I since it was easily brewed. Asphyxiates are the
poisonous gases which include chlorine, phosgene, and diphosgene. Chlorine inflicts damage by
forming hydrochloric acid when it comes in contact with moisture such as what is found in the lungs
and eyes. It is lethal at a ratio of 1:5000 (gas/air), whereas phosgene is deadly at 1:10,000 (gas/air)
twice as toxic! Diphosgene, first used by the Germans at Verdun on 22 June, 1916, was deadlier still
and could not be effectively filtered by standard issue gas masks. Blistering Agents, like mustard gas,
were seen as the most dreadful of all chemical weapons in World War I. Unlike the other gases which
attacked the respiratory system, this gas acts on any exposed, moist skin, which makes it extremely
dangerous. This includes, but is not limited to, the eyes, lungs, armpits and groin. Obviously, a gas
mask that covered one s face could offer very little to no protection whatsoever. The oily reacting
agent would produce large burn like blisters wherever it came in contact with skin. It also had a way

Introduction
Chemical equilibrium is defined as a state in which the rate of the forward reaction equals the rate of
the backward reaction [1]. Equilibrium constant, defined as a number that expresses the relationship
between the amounts of products and reactants present at equilibrium in a reversible chemical reaction
at a given temperature [2]. The equilibrium constant, Keq, was found by multiplying the products
concentrations, then dividing it by the equilibrium concentrations product of the reactant. Small Keq
values means that the reaction does not fully go to completion. When looking at a large Keq value, the
reaction entirely goes to completion therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there is a relationship between absorbance and concentration. Moreover, Le Chatelier s principle
needs to be brought up again in order to account for an off Keq value. This could be due to not adding
enough of the reactant ion which did not allow the reaction to be driven completely.

her about curiosity about the her new environment. After reading the story, I thought that life during
that time was difficult and crazy. Throughout the story, Julia Alvarez uses vivid imagery and similes to

Video Relay Service Executive Summary
This article focuses on the stressors that interpreters often face when interpreting in a Video Relay
Service setting. Because of the stress that these interpreters face, this leads to burnout, which is
equivalent to emotional exhaustion. There are many different reasons for the increase of stress in
Video Relay Service interpreting. This article surveyed 424 interpreters who worked, or are currently
working for a Video Relay Service. The survey consisted of three sections, which included rating the
severity of stress level from twenty possible stress factors, three questions about the interpreter s
experience working at a Video Relay Service, and demographic questions. The article begins with a
brief description of what Video Relay Services are, as well as what Video Remote Interpreting is. The
article also gives a definition of the term burnout, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I knew what the Video Relay Service was, but I never realized that interpreters in this setting could
experience such high levels of stress that could eventually lead to a burnout. In the past, I knew that
interpreters working in settings such as legal or mental health experienced levels of stress, but I never
took into consideration the stress that interpreters working in Video Relay Service settings face. Since
Video Relay Services are relatively new, most people do not realize the complexity of this setting.
Interpreters must interpret everything, and some information could be extremely uncomfortable or
personal. The information in the calls could have a negative impact on the interpreter, and be
extremely emotional or go against the interpreter s beliefs. Interpreters also may have to interpret a
911 call, which I never even thought of before. A 911 call is stressful in itself, and the interpreter has
to make sure he or she delivers an accurate interpretation because if they do not, it could be life or
death for the individual needing to make the 911

Examples Of Desserts
1 INTRODUCTION
Caitlin Hines discusses in her research Rebaking the Pie: The Woman as Dessert Metaphor that there
is a consistent, widespread, generally unconscious and undocumented metaphor in English equating
women as sex objects with desserts (Hines 1999: 145). Women as dessert metaphor functions both in
linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example women jumping out of
cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to objects,
sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate objects. Moreover,
she makes a point that women are not just objects, but sweet, and not just desserts, but pieces or slices.
She uses Sally McConnell Ginet s theory that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rihanna states that a man wants to lick the icing off , using cake and eating as metaphors for sex.
Moreover, in the example 4, blowing candles out could be a metaphor for an orgasm.
Unlike Trey Songz and Rihanna s songs, Melanie Martinez s Milk and Cookies does not have any
sexual allusions. However, it still depicts the use of the woman as dessert metaphor:
(5) I m fucking crazy, need my prescription filled Do you like my cookies? They re made just for you
A little bit of sugar, but lots of poison, too (Martinez 2015b)
As Caitlin Hines defines in her research, the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to sinful and
decadent (1999: 148), which is shown in the example 5. In the example, the female singer is offering
her poisonous cookies to the receiver, making a connection with women and cookies. The example
could be interpreted in an abstract sense. The singer is sweet with a little bit of sugar , but also sinful:
but lots of poison, too .
R. Kelly s Cookie is filled with sexual allusions and is a metaphor for sex:

Causes And Symptoms Of Tay-Sachs Disease
Tay Sachs disease is a disorder in the central nervous system. It is a disorder that most commonly
affects infants. It is a disease that is most commonly always fatal. Tay Sachs can also occur in teens
and adults, causing less not fatal symptoms, although this occurs rarely. This disease is caused because
you are missing an enzyme in the body named Hexosaminidase. Without this enzyme a fatty element
called Ganglioside builds up on lysosomes which then this overcrowds the cells causing this to
damage the nerve cells in the body but mainly on the brain. The effect on children begins in the fetus
during the pregnancy. A baby with the disease appears normal until six months of age, when it s

President Ronald Reagan And President Reagan
Being president is a huge responsibility, and there are some who have done an excellent job. Then
there are others who have made our economy, as well as our country, go down the drain. However, I
have to hand it to President Ronald Wilson Reagan, because the time he was in office he really
pumped the country up, and did a tremendous job running it as well as helping in every way he could.
Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois. Reagan passed away June 5, 2004,
and was buried in Simi Valley, California. He graduated from Eureka College in 1932 with a Bachelor
s of Arts degree in social science and economics. Before Mr. Reagan was president he was also an
actor, and performed in 53 different movies. He was of the Christian religion. President Ronald
Reagan was the 40th president, and part of the Republican party. The First Lady was Nancy Reagan,
and the Vice President was George H.W. Bush while Ronald Reagan was in office. They were
successful with two terms together from 1981 until 1989. Obviously Reagan liked politics, and
definitely caught his attention since that is what he graduated from college with. But, his political
views really shifted from liberal to republican in the 1960 s while supporting Nixon in Nixon s
campaign in California against Pat Brown. Reagan did quite a few General Electric speeches for
Nixon as well in his campaign. The result from these speeches was merely freedom is what the people

A Viking funeral is unlike any funeral that the modern individual is used too. According to Ibn Fadlan,
author of Ibn Fadlan s Account of Viking in Early Russia, an article that narrates a Viking funeral from

account by explaining the descriptive process of the funeral of a Viking from an outside perspective.
This paper will be a brief summary and opinion on the funeral of a Viking. Vikings come from their

played a part in the sewing of the garments, all of the equipment needed for the funeral, and the most
important part, the slaying of the girl who agreed to die with her master. Near him in the grave they
had placed strong drinks, and fruits. They now clothed him in drawers, leggings, boots, and a kurtak

trimmed with sable. The Viking was dressed very well, to honor and respect him. That is something
that society today can relate too, since we dress our dead in suits and other things to respect their
passing. After the dressing they finally carried him and placed him in the ship. Pillows, and, bringing
of strong fruits, and basil, placed them all beside him. Then they brought a dog, which they in two,

From the article, Abortion Doctor Shot to Death in Kansas Church by using the quote I said therefore
unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. John
8:24 it shows how christianity is showed in a negative way. Dr. Tiller, 67, from the article had become
a focal point for those around the country who opposed it. In addition to protests outside his clinic, his
house and his church, Dr. Tiller had once seen his clinic bombed; in 1993, an abortion opponent shot
him in both arms. He was also the defendant in a series of legal challenges intended to shut down his
operations, including two grand juries that were convened after citizen led petition drives. And was
later shot and killed, for fighting against abortion under the law. One example from the article of how
evil is used in christianity is, Mr. Obama issued a statement after Dr.Tiller s killing, saying, However
profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved
by heinous acts of violence. This relates to the quote because it shows that even if someone has a
opinion and is willing to share that opinion in public that you should not use violence. Therefore if
you do you will die in your sins of killing

The War Of The Soviet Union
As World War II was coming to an end and the Ally armies were converging, two superpowers came
to meet with one another on the outskirts of Berlin. With the momentum that the Red Army was
making against Germany, many in the Allies believed that the Communists would continue to sweep
across Europe. Although united against the greatest evil the world had ever known, both sides of the
opposing economic theories viewed each other as the next enemy after the war. No war ever occurred
between the Soviet Union and the United States, at least not one that was fought with soldiers. A war
of espionage, alliances, and what this essay will focus on; propaganda. Propaganda was second nature
to the Soviet Union, as from its insurrection the Soviet Union worked to convince its population and
the world of how it s system of economic governance was the better solution. This propaganda can
take the form of any type of media, such as: pamphlets and flyers, radio and television, and film and
animations or even word of mouth. It can be created to bolster one s own goals, to discredit the goals
of others, or a combination of both. As you will see in the following propaganda campaigns, it is
common for pro communist pieces to bolster its perception while damaging the beliefs of capitalism.
Some propaganda may be truthful, however often a fact of such material is that hyperboles or straight
out lies are used to give your position the stronger claim. While in this essay I will not analyze the

The North Korean Famine
North Korea has been receiving financial support from the United Nations as well as food supplies.
Many people would claim that North Korea has an ongoing famine due to the floods they would
continuously experience throughout the years, damaging the soil. Others would argue and say that the
famine happened because North Korea is a communist country and the military is purposefully
starving their people. Regardless of these arguments, the fact still remains, the people of North Korea
are dying rapidly due to malnutrition. The only solution feasible to this problem would be to send
agricultural scientists over to North Korea and help restore the damaged soil, so that it may grow
healthy crops once again. North Korea is facing a dangerous famine ... Show more content on

The reason for this, is because it will cost millions of dollars to try and restore even a portion of the
land in North Korea. According to Phil McKenna, North Korean scientists told the delegates that they
would like to reforest hillsides with trees, including the Japanese chestnut, black chokeberry, and
Korean pine, that could both stabilize the soil and provide edible fruits and seeds. But funding for such
reforestation appears tight (McKenna 17). The solution is possible, however, it will cost too much to
fix. There have been ideas of trying to restore everything back to the way it used to be, but there are
insufficient funds to do so. It is cheaper to send North Korea supplies of food and some money, rather
than doing something that will benefit all of North Korea. Not to mention the fact this solution is short
term and does not benefit North Korea as much as the previous solution would. Money seems to be
the only problem with this solution, Even if the nurseries were running at full capacity, North Korea
would still have a long road ahead of it. Bowers estimates that reforesting even half the country would
cost around $46 billion, an amount that exceeds the nation s annual gross domestic product by $6
billion (McKenna 17). If Kim Jong Un were willing to provide their own money into this solution,
there would be better soil and crops in North Korea. This solution is not an easy one to overcome,
however, it will be worth every penny in the

following this issue. Mostly that the rice will contaminate the rice intended for human food, among
animal food. There also are comments regarding to the environment and that doing things like this will

Organ Shortage
Within the past few years, the demand for organs has increased at an alarming rate. This is due mostly
to the fact that diseases and illnesses are becoming more prevalent and are brought on due to a
significant change in American lifestyles. Failing organs can be caused by certain ways of living such
as being a smoker or becoming obese. Many people are in need of a vital organ or know someone who
needs an organ; these people are greatly impacted by a decision involving organ donation. Vital
organs, such as the brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and liver are involved, which means these people are
in life and death situations. While organ transplants have created a way to give and receive life to
others, the process has actually become controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different countries have different systems to organize organ donation. These systems are known as
either opt out or opt in . The United States is currently under an opt in system which basically means
that we assume that everyone does not wish to become an organ donor, unless is it made clear in their
lifetime. An opt out system is one in which we assume that everyone wishes to become an organ donor
after death, otherwise made explicitly known during lifetime. It is proposed that the solution to the
organ shortage crisis in the United states is to adopt the opt out system. This system makes more sense
because if a person is so passionate about not being a donor, they will voice that while they are living.
Our current system does not encourage people to actually take the time to make a decision about being
an organ donor or not. Instead, the system we currently have allows people to stay uninformed about
decisions that could in the end give someone else a shot at living their life. An article written in the
European Journal of Health Law talks about the bill of 2009 that allows presumed consent for organ
donation in European countries. Lisa Cherkassky, Lecturer in Law, includes specifics details written in
the bill such as, if a person during their lifetime has not registered to an objection to his body that after
death, it will be presumed that he [has] consented to such a donation. In the US, we currently must
register to donate, with a system like this, it would be the opposite (registering to not donate).
Cherkassky also includes how the bill seeks to protect people as well when it comes to death, she says
unless two registered medical practitioners have satisfied themselves that the person is dead, no organs
will be allowed to be removed. Adopting a bill with a policy of protection

of obtaining and losing freedom in an interesting approach. Their approach is similar in that they both
target women to obtain freedom however the stories are different by the effort on obtaining freedom.
In The Story of an Hour the women is finally granted freedom when the husband is dead, however this

In Story of the Hour and The Yellow Wallpaper both share a common setting. The setting of both of
stories is a dark and depressing room. This room is important to the story due to the fact that in both of
the stories the protagonists are in the room for excessive periods of time. Chopin s shows the women
grieving in an empty room, but this empty room gets her the idea that she is now free. When the storm
of grief had spent she went to her room alone. She would have no one follow her (Chopin 144). This
shows that the protagonist is grieving over her husband s death and is wanting to be isolated.
However, in this isolation she does find her freedom. She starts thinking to herself that she can live for
herself. While in The Yellow Wallpaper the women is the room almost forcefully. She is also trying to
leave the house to go elsewhere but her husband does not feel that she is ready. This is the reason that
the woman goes berserk in the room because of her mental condition and the lack of freedom. And she
is all the time trying to climb through. But nobody could climb through that pattern it strangles so; I
think that is why it has so many heads (Gilman). This quote explains that mental state that the
protagonist is in. She talks about the heads trying to get out of the wallpaper, but in reality the heads
are just her efforts on getting her freedom. She also says she

In fact, the threat of an attack has grown significantly throughout cyberspace to where cyberspace has
emerged as an arena for war similar to that of land, sea, air and space, with the emergent possibility to
harm the national security of nation states, as exemplified by the 2007 cyber warfare that plagued
Estonia.
Nearly a decade since the introduction of the Internet, the transnational community still does not have
an organized, authoritative group of standards to oversee the actions of nations in cyberspace. To deter
aggression in cyberspace it is necessary to have such standards established.
This paper examines the cyber attacks of the nation Estonia and how the lack of global standards was
a critical part of the attack. In addition, this paper looks at the vulnerabilities in the cyber security
policies and practices instituted at the occurrence of the cyber attacks on Estonia as well as the
advantages and disadvantages for improving and reducing each named vulnerability and security
practice.
2. Background and Global Impact
From the time Estonia affirmed its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, it has
enthusiastically incorporated ICT in the everyday life of its citizens, therefore becoming one of the
most digitally connected nations in Europe. To further illustrate, over 65 percent of Estonians are
Internet consumers where they execute practically every administrative operation of society online

Through the history of Black musical forms, each style represented a reality of the Black community,

From the political unrest of the 1950 s, 60 s and 70 s Civil Rights, anti Vietnam protests, and
emergence of Black Power/Black Revolution ideals, soul music captured a variety of ideologies and
presented them to the masses. Music allowed for a mix of the ideologies to the mass of Blacks across
the nation, without having to formally declare one main ideology as the only one they subscribed to.
Soul then gave birth to funk which allowed more freedom in musical expression while appropriating
religious zeal and traditions and keeping critical political discourse. Major funk artists like Sly and the

Cultural Beliefs In The Odyssey By Beowulf
In The Odyssey, the Cyclops symbolizes cultural values straying from the norm of society, while in
Beowulf, Grendel symbolizes the consequences of not conforming to those values.
In The Odyssey, Homer uses the Cyclops to encapsulate values which are considered abnormal in
everyday society. The beasts are culturally, politically and religiously detached from civilization.
Homer describes the one eyed beasts, They have no meeting place for council, no laws either, no, up
on the mountain peaks they live in arching caverns each a law to himself, ruling his wives and
children, not a care in the world for any neighbor (9.125 128) In ancient greek society family and
community were heavily valued, however it seems that each Cyclops wants nothing to do with the
others, revealing them as cultural outsiders who wouldn t be accepted among humanity. Additionally,
the brutes have no meeting place for council, no laws either. The Odyssey was written in the 8th
century BC, during the beginnings of Archaic Greece. City states were the popular form of
government and communal decision making started to gain value. In stark contrast to this form of
politics, the Cyclops made decisions for themselves, rarely communicating with anyone but their own
families. Their governmental actions stray far from the Greeks public standards. Perhaps the largest
difference between the Cyclops and any other Greek citizen though, is their religious difference. The
Cyclops boasts to Odysseus, We Cyclops

The strategic location of Natchez, on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River, ensured that it
would be a pivotal center of trade, commerce, and the interchange of ethnic Native American,

In the middle of the nineteenth century, the city attracted wealthy Southern planters as residents, who
built mansions to fit their ambitions . Their plantations were vast tracts of land in the surrounding
lowlands along the riverfronts of Mississippi and Louisiana, where they grew large commodity crops
of cotton and sugarcane using slave labor. Natchez became the principal port from which these crops

Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy
2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY
Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William
Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the tragic
writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and tragic
intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or influenced
by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in mind when we
think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written between 1590 94),
Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello (1603 04), King Lear
(1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus (1608) derived from
Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed as tragedies in the First
Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his histories, but since they are
from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as histories in the First Folio.
Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and
Cleopatra, and Coriolanus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mini-Bestest Evaluation
The Mini BESTest Because the administration of the BESTest takes from 45 to 60 minutes, which
may not be practical in all clinical settings, a condensed shorter version of the BESTest (Mini

conducted a study on 79 adults (mean age 68.7) to determine the validity of the BESTest, Mini
BESTest and Brief BESTest. Activities Specific Balance Confidence Scale, The Physical Activity

Reach Test and Timed Up and Go Test). The Mini BESTest was repeated again for the 30 participants
after 10 days in order to determine its reliability. The results showed a close relationship between
scores on the Mini BESTest and the other outcome measures. The Mini BESTest was able to detect the
difference between the fallers and non fallers groups. More importantly the Mini BESTest showed less

Ceruloplasmin best known as copper binding protein, found in the plasma of vertebrate species, and is mainly synthesized by the liver [106]. After ceruloplasmin was originally isolated from plasma by Holmberg and Laurell [107], this protein quickly became the subject of many investigations concerning its function, molecular structure and the physical properties of the copper ions bound to it [106, 108 111]. The ceruloplasmin gene was identified on the human 3q25 chromosome with a molecular weight of ~132 kDa [112]. The molecule is composed of six compact domains, with large loop insertions, and is characterized by the presence of three types of spectroscopically distinct copper sites. ... The ceruloplasmin protein contains more than 90% of copper in the plasma, but rather than strictly functioning in copper metabolism, its main function appears to be a modulator of iron efflux via oxidation [106, 108, 109]. Ceruloplasmin has been known to possess ferroxidase activity, the ability to oxidize ferrous to ferric iron. This activity is required for its function in iron homeostasis and is thought to reduce oxidative stress by inhibition of the Fenton reaction which uses Fe2+ to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) [106, 110]. One influence stems from society, an Apollonian lifestyle of order, structure, responsibility, while the other is the individual s inner Dionysian desire for indulgence, impulsiveness, freedom. In Kate Chopin s novella The Awakening, Chopin depicts Apollonian and Dionysian values through the description of certain settings and characters, while also depicting the dramatic inner battle that the protagonist, Edna Pontellier, experiences between these two influences. Chopin, by including Apollonian and Dionysian symbols throughout the novel, and by detailing the pull Edna feels between the two lifestyle, depicts Edna as having a choice in living an Apollonian or a Dionysian life, and, thereby, depicts that all women of her time have this choice as well. The overarching theme of The Awakening is that women in society must make one of two distinct choices the choice to live according to society or the choice to live with individuality. Edna is constantly presented with two opposing choices and feels the conflict created from the pull of both within her; eventually, she makes her choice. Edna s distinct choice leads to a distinct path. Therefore, not only is every woman presented with two distinct choices, but those two choices lead to two distinct paths of life. If a woman is brave enough to defy societal expectations, then she will be known as Mademoiselle Reisz is known, as the most disagreeable and unpopular woman who ever lived in Bienville Street (59). The Battle Of The World War It is generally considered that the Pacific War began on 7/8 December 1941, when Japan invaded Thailand and attacked the British Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong as well as America s state of Hawaii, where they bombed the military bases there. Australia entered World War II shortly after the invasion of Poland, declaring war on Germany on 3rd September 1939. By the end of the war, almost a million Australians had served in the armed forces, who fought primarily in the European theatre, North African campaign, and the South Pacific theatre. The Second World War saw the involvement of Australian troops more than ever and the closest to home. In addition, for the first time in history, attacks were aimed at mainland Australia. According to esteemed British author and military historian Antony Beevor, The Second World War was such a huge combination of different conflicts that it s almost impossible to point to a single battle as a turning point During the war some turning points for the Allies were; The Fall of Singapore, The Bombing of Darwin, The Battle of the Coral Sea, The Battle of Midway and The Kokoda Campaign. The United States Forces also played a big role in the war in The Pacific Theatre and the turning points for The Australian Forces. • 8. The First Year Writing Program Throughout the semester, the first year writing program gave students the privilege to become improved writers. Students received the opportunity to identify their strengths and weaknesses and come to a conclusion on what makes favorable writing. While writing the assigned essays this semester, I realized being able to read and write about something that is relatable is extremely critical. When an individual can relate to what they are reading, they will be more engaged compared to reading a piece that fails to connect to them. Although the first year writing program succeeded in building up better writers, there is always room for improvement. The program could consider new pieces of work and content that is recent that students can form an opinion on and relate to. While writing, individuals should always keep in mind, honesty, personal experience, and sending a message. Incorporating these values into a paper results in a piece of writing that is relatable and clear to understand. Personal experience and examples provide a reasonable amount of evidence for a reader. This will show that the topic being written about can happen and impact any individual. Also, honesty is crucial when wanting to make a point about the topic being written about. Writing that sends a message is essential due to the fact that the reader can identify that the author is writing for a purpose and wants the reader to take away a lesson or idea from reading that piece. Chemical Warfare in World War I Essay Juliana Amenta 2/18/13 Mr. Zastrow Chemical Warfare During World War 1 The first World War has been reported to be one of the most brutal wars in the history of time for many reasons. One of those reasons was strategic usage of chemical warfare. Chemical gas was used on both sides of the line, which turned out to be fatal for many. World War I was mostly fought in the trenches, where soldiers lived in deep, v shaped holes or underground bunkers. Both sides would occupy these trenches in order to escape from the constant stream of bullets. These battles often ended in a standoff, or tie, which helped the introduction of a different, brand new style of fighting that included the use of chemicals. These chemicals had a range of ... This chemical and any chemical with bromide were quite popular during World War I since it was easily brewed. Asphyxiates are the poisonous gases which include chlorine, phosgene, and diphosgene. Chlorine inflicts damage by forming hydrochloric acid when it comes in contact with moisture such as what is found in the lungs and eyes. It is lethal at a ratio of 1:5000 (gas/air), whereas phosgene is deadly at 1:10,000 (gas/air) twice as toxic! Diphosgene, first used by the Germans at Verdun on 22 June, 1916, was deadlier still and could not be effectively filtered by standard issue gas masks. Blistering Agents, like mustard gas, were seen as the most dreadful of all chemical weapons in World War I. Unlike the other gases which attacked the respiratory system, this gas acts on any exposed, moist skin, which makes it extremely dangerous. This includes, but is not limited to, the eyes, lungs, armpits and groin. Obviously, a gas mask that covered one s face could offer very little to no protection whatsoever. Examples Of Desserts 1 INTRODUCTION Caitlin Hines discusses in her research Rebaking the Pie: The Woman as Dessert Metaphor that there is a consistent, widespread, generally unconscious and undocumented metaphor in English equating women as sex objects with desserts (Hines 1999: 145). Women as dessert metaphor functions both in linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example women jumping out of cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to objects, sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate objects. Moreover, she makes a point that women are not just objects, but sweet, and not just desserts, but pieces or slices. She uses Sally McConnell Ginet s theory that ... • 27. Organ Shortage Within the past few years, the demand for organs has increased at an alarming rate. This is due mostly to the fact that diseases and illnesses are becoming more prevalent and are brought on due to a significant change in American lifestyles. Failing organs can be caused by certain ways of living such as being a smoker or becoming obese. Many people are in need of a vital organ or know someone who needs an organ; these people are greatly impacted by a decision involving organ donation. Vital organs, such as the brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and liver are involved, which means these people are in life and death situations. While organ transplants have created a way to give and receive life to others, the process has actually become controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different countries have different systems to organize organ donation. These systems are known as either opt out or opt in . The United States is currently under an opt in system which basically means that we assume that everyone does not wish to become an organ donor, unless is it made clear in their lifetime. An opt out system is one in which we assume that everyone wishes to become an organ donor after death, otherwise made explicitly known during lifetime. It is proposed that the solution to the organ shortage crisis in the United states is to adopt the opt out system. This system makes more sense because if a person is so passionate about not being a donor, they will voice that while they are living. Our current system does not encourage people to actually take the time to make a decision about being an organ donor or not. Instead, the system we currently have allows people to stay uninformed about decisions that could in the end give someone else a shot at living their life. An article written in the European Journal of Health Law talks about the bill of 2009 that allows presumed consent for organ donation in European countries. Lisa Cherkassky, Lecturer in Law, includes specifics details written in the bill such as, if a person during their lifetime has not registered to an objection to his body that after death, it will be presumed that he [has] consented to such a donation. In the US, we currently must register to donate, with a system like this, it would be the opposite (registering to not donate). Cherkassky also includes how the bill seeks to protect people as well when it comes to death, she says unless two registered medical practitioners have satisfied themselves that the person is dead, no organs will be allowed to be removed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Story of the Hour and The Yellow Wallpaper both share a common setting. The setting of both of stories is a dark and depressing room. This room is important to the story due to the fact that in both of the stories the protagonists are in the room for excessive periods of time. Chopin s shows the women grieving in an empty room, but this empty room gets her the idea that she is now free. When the storm of grief had spent she went to her room alone. She would have no one follow her (Chopin 144). This shows that the protagonist is grieving over her husband s death and is wanting to be isolated. However, in this isolation she does find her freedom. She starts thinking to herself that she can live for herself. While in The Yellow Wallpaper the women is the room almost forcefully. She is also trying to leave the house to go elsewhere but her husband does not feel that she is ready. This is the reason that the woman goes berserk in the room because of her mental condition and the lack of freedom. And she is all the time trying to climb through. Soul then gave birth to funk which allowed more freedom in musical expression while appropriating religious zeal and traditions and keeping critical political discourse. Cultural Beliefs In The Odyssey By Beowulf In The Odyssey, the Cyclops symbolizes cultural values straying from the norm of society, while in Beowulf, Grendel symbolizes the consequences of not conforming to those values. In The Odyssey, Homer uses the Cyclops to encapsulate values which are considered abnormal in everyday society. The beasts are culturally, politically and religiously detached from civilization. Homer describes the one eyed beasts, They have no meeting place for council, no laws either, no, up on the mountain peaks they live in arching caverns each a law to himself, ruling his wives and children, not a care in the world for any neighbor (9.125 128) In ancient greek society family and community were heavily valued, however it seems that each Cyclops wants nothing to do with the others, revealing them as cultural outsiders who wouldn t be accepted among humanity. Additionally, the brutes have no meeting place for council, no laws either. The Odyssey was written in the 8th century BC, during the beginnings of Archaic Greece. City states were the popular form of government and communal decision making started to gain value. In stark contrast to this form of politics, the Cyclops made decisions for themselves, rarely communicating with anyone but their own families. Their governmental actions stray far from the Greeks public standards. Perhaps the largest difference between the Cyclops and any other Greek citizen though, is their religious difference. • 38. Characteristics Of Shakespearean Tragedy 2. SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY Shakespearean tragedy is the title given to most tragedies written by the playwright William Shakespeare. Shakespearean tragedy began, roughly speaking, with marked indebtedness to the tragic writing of Marlowe and Kyd: poetry, character, and style from Marlowe; motive, plot, and tragic intensity from Kyd. No evidence suggests Shakespeare was ever particularly aware of or influenced by, Aristotelian theories of tragedy . (Bevington, 1980) The plays we usually have in mind when we think about Shakespearean tragedy are the classics like Titus Andronicus (written between 1590 94), Romeo and Juliet (1594 96), Julius Caesar (1599), Hamlet (1599 1601), Othello (1603 04), King Lear (1605), Macbeth (1606 07), Antony and Cleopatra (1606 07), and Coriolanus (1608) derived from Plutarch. Troilus and Cressida, Timon of Athens, and Cymbeline were listed as tragedies in the First Folio. Characteristics of a Shakespearean tragedy are found in many of his histories, but since they are from real figures throughout England s history, they were classified as histories in the First Folio. Exceptions from this are the Roman histories, also from historical figures: Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
