Reflection Essay On Observation
To obtain knowledge, one must study; but to receive wisdom, one must observe. Observation, often
defined as the action or process of watching something or someone to gain information. Throughout
the semester, students within the education department had the genuine opportunity to both learn and
grow as future educators through observations outside of the classroom. Throughout the semester, I
chose to observe at the following programs: Breakaway at Westridge Church, Poole Elementary
School s Learning Bridge, and AWANA at Callie Harbin Baptist Church. As a future educator, I
learned that often observation is education as education and learning are so much more than a
textbook. For my first observation, I chose to observe at a respite event known as Breakaway at
Westridge Church located in Dallas Georgia. Breakaway is a cost free respite event for both special
needs participants and their families. This function allows individuals of all ages to enjoy supervised
entertainment and activities planned precisely for them. Breakaway, Outdoor Extravaganza, an event
consisting of carnival clowns, games, outdoor inflatables, corn hole, hayrides, arts, crafts, face
painting, petting zoo, music, and so much more. Through this observation, I had the genuine
opportunity to view life from different perspectives as special needs individuals enjoyed a day
prepared explicitly for them. For example, I had the opportunity to share such a joyous day with an
individual who holds my heart captive. I sat back and watched as he rode the hayride with his
volunteer; consequently, my heart filled with joy as he laughed the whole way through. Once the
hayride came to a close, he and his volunteer traveled to visit the fire trucks and see all of its bells and
whistles as he had the chance to climb inside. In addition to all the excellent outdoor activities, each
child had a chance to hang out, listen to music, see ballet dancers perform, and hear the word of God
brought forth through interactive Bible stories. This experience overjoyed my heart as I saw firsthand
that children with special needs paint the world with beautiful colors every day as they love more
profound than one s mind can fathom. For my second

Persuasive Speech On Exercise
With all the choices and methods of exercise these days, many of us are confused about what is best
and what will work for them. Hopefully I can clear up some of this confusion about fitness, and talk
about what methods I feel are most effective. Being involved in the Fitness and Sports Medicine
Industry for the past twenty years, I ve seen and used every form of exercise machine, fad program,
and group class imaginable. I ve seen and done some scary things and have learned from my mistakes
and observations. Let me mention old school methods of exercise and training. Exercise fads may
come and go, but some things still remain constant. I remember my Physical Education classes back in
grade school, and playing on the playground at recess. Those were fun times. Our Phys Ed teachers
actually had the insight of getting us to exercise without us knowing it. They used things like balls,
bars, ropes, obstacle courses, and certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of know this to be a very specialized and technical sport. Well, it is, and if you don t know what
you are doing you can certainly hurt yourself. Maybe this is one reason so many of us have sore backs
due to improper body mechanics. Olympic weight lifters are some of the most athletic and powerful
athletes around. This is just in the nature of the sport. To explain it simply the object of the sport is to
pick an object up off the floor to your shoulders (the clean) or overhead position as efficiently as
possible (clean and jerk or snatch). I will not bore you with the details of Olympic Weight Lifting at
this time. If you think about it, you probably execute these types of motions throughout the day in life.
Weather you are lifting a child, a bag of groceries, or any object for that manner. Olympic lifting
doesn t have to involve a bar with weights on it, any object can be used including dumbbells, medicine
balls, stones, sandbags, and Russian Kettlebells (this in an article in

High School Sports Make Student Athletes
High school sports make student athletes strive for better success in their education. Sure some
Schools have a minimum G.P.A requirement of 2.0, and to get that all your classes have to be C or
better. Well that s better than letting them have a 1.0 and letting them play. It makes them have
something worth studying for, For example my friend Bryan Garcia does not like school or work but
he is always looking for ways to make his grades better so that he may play with the John F. Kennedy
soccer team. Also not all the states in the United States of America have a G.P.A requirement to play
in a sport activity, twelve out of the fifty states in the USA require a G.P.A to play. A High School

Persuasive Essay On Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering is currently a growing field in which people are obsessing over. This is new and
upcoming technology that combines genetic and Nanotechnological enhancements, which completes
the direct manipulation of DNA to alter an organism s characteristics in a particular way. In my
opinion, it may very well be a great improvement, but it should only be used when necessary. If I were
a parent of a child under 12 years of age, I would not sign up for the enhancement.
First of all, genetic engineering is simply a way of altering oneself. The enhancement may bring great
skills to have, but unfortunately this is not only changing the child s mind completely, it is also giving
them no self actualization ability. I agree with Baylis and Robert s idea of, Enhancement technologies
having a deleterious impact on the genetic variability characteristic of the human gene pool (Baylis
and Robert) because every human is different and unique in many aspects. This process literally
weakens the authenticity of one s accomplishments and diversity throughout society. It holds that the
engineered person s abilities and talents are no longer his or her own, but are simply because of the
alteration. Children are supposed to be different in order to find their struggles and strengths, building
themselves. If they are accelerated in everything possible, they will never find their paths in life.
According to Baylis and Robert, The essence of humans is to nurture and protect the natural

Matt Drayton In Guess Who s Coming To Dinner
Spencer Tracy plays the role of Matt Drayton in Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, a film directed by
Stanley Kramer. In Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, Matt and Christina Drayton s attitudes are
challenged when their daughter, Joanna (Joey), brings home a fiancé who is black, John Wade
Prentice. This movie explores how different people related to John and Joanna react to the news of a
possible marriage between a black man and a white woman. John tells Matt and Christina that he
would not marry their daughter if they have an objection to the marriage. He also tells Matt and
Christina that they only have that day to make a decision. Spencer Tracy beautifully portrays the role
of a father who has to make a vital decision about his daughter s future not only considering her
happiness but also the social implications his daughter would have to deal with due to the decision. ...

Everyone knows that African Americans were not truly granted all their rights after slavery ended in
the United States because segregation was created by white people to stop the African Americans from
getting their rights. The United States Supreme Court ruling of 1954 that banned segregation in public
schools was the first step towards the end of segregation and the start of integration.1 Segregation
officially ended in 1964. Additionally, in 1967, the same year in which Guess Who s Coming to
Dinner came out, the United States Supreme Court declared that all laws that banned interracial
marriages violated the United States Constitution, and thus, they had to be removed.1 For this reason,

Expert systems as a mean of conducting medical diagnosis and recommending successful treatments
have been a highly active research field in the past few years. Expert systems can assist medical
professionals and other users in providing correct diagnosis and suggesting effective treatments of
diseases. In other words, intelligent systems for diagnosing common illnesses can provide easy access
to a wealth of information that may help hospitals reduce excessive costs from unnecessary laboratory
test and provide more effective patient treatment, while maintaining high quality of medical care.

2. BACKGROUND:
This section provides succinct and coherent information about the important techniques and concepts
that are related to this project such as what is an expert system and what is the ID3 algorithm which is
used as the data mining technique. The following subsections are an overview for each of these
concepts:
2.1 Expert Systems:
Expert systems are computer programs capable of performing a task that normally requires the
knowledge from experts in the field [9]. Two different approaches represent knowledge in expert
systems. One is based on production rules (IF THEN), which are applied to the knowledge base in an
orderly manner to produce the solution to a diagnostic problem [3]. The second approach is based on
nodal networks of disease features linked together in a variety of patterns against which the new
patient s features are compared by pattern matching. Some recent systems combine features of both
approaches. A second generation of expert systems now make use of networks where causal
pathophysiological information is embodied. This latter type provides particularly complex
explanatory feedback [9].
There are many different techniques that can be used by expert systems and clinical decision support
systems in order to improve the systems work such as: Causal Probabilistic Network, Neural Network,
Bayesian Network,

Jamestown Vs Plymouth Plantation Essay
The Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation were big acts to our history today. Both plantations were
similar and different in many ways. Jamestown was uniquely harsh, and I could somewhat say the
same about the Plymouth plantation as well. In a matter of fact, the Jamestown and Plymouth
plantation caused a ruckus in their towns/state, enough ruckus to maintain it s name and strength of
time. Starting with Jamestown, it was a scarce plantation. Sailors got what they called better paid due
to the ships staying for a longer. They weren t paid in money, but they were paid with bread, which
was a good item to sell, barter, and love etc. There was something established called the surprise
attack. This attack included Smith unexpectedly returning, the Spaniard greedily desiring gold, and
Smith gets shot in the thigh. Jamestown s plantation was violent, and deceiving. Leading to the
Plymouth Plantation, although the ships were very compact, they had an abundance of things
accomplished. There were a lot of sicknesses and cursing. They were very religious with their beliefs.
For example, they were against cursing, indecisive manners and such. Their sails were very calm and
undergoing, yet they ship wasn t that sturdy. There were some rough ... Show more content on

Social Norms
This paper will give a definition of deviance by analyzing the varying types and definition of
deviance. Violations of social norms is key to defining deviance. There are three key features within
social norms: time, place, and situation, that come together to establish deviance. The relativity of the
all of those events combined into one along with who is perceiving the act is what defines deviance
Social Norm are informal rules that help govern a society. Norms differ from place, time period, and
situations. When norms are violated and witnessed the offender, the one who broke the norm, is then
put in to one of two punishment categories. Primary deviance is occurs when the offender breaks a
lesser norm and is only slightly punished, it does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criminal deviance is when a person becomes a deviant by disobeying the laws. Criminal deviance is
easy to define because even though laws change from time, place, and situation they are written down
and have already been agreed upon. Social deviance is much more difficult to define due to the
informal nature of social norms. A person can be either non deviant, a criminal deviant, a social
deviant, or bother a criminal and social deviant. Obey the speed limit can show all four these deviants.
On highways in America the left lane is referred to as the fast lane and the right hand lane as the slow
lane . A person going the maximum speed limit in the right hand lane is breaking neither laws nor
social norms. A person going ten miles an hour(mph) under the speed limit in the right lane, assuming
they are not slowing down to turn, is breaking the social norm of not going at least the speed limit, and
is therefore a social deviant. They are not breaking any laws, however. A person going five to ten mph
over the speed limit in the left hand lane is following the social norm. Since the person is going over
the speed limit they are now considered a criminal deviant. A person who is driving 50 mph regardless
of what lane they are is breaking both social norms and criminal laws, which makes them both a social
and criminal

Apollo 11 went to the moon with Neil Armstrong and other astronauts. When Apollo 11 came back

Today in 2015, those people continue to believe that the landings were faked. Now why is that? Plenty
of evidence that the moon landings were real. What do i believe? My opinion is that the moon

Also, to build the rocketship it took about 6 billion dollars. I don t believe NASA or the U.S would

In 1969, NASA launched a spaceship that was destined to go to the moon. If the moon landings were

Globalization and Starbucks Coffee
GLOBALIZATION AND STARBUCKS COFFEE
A. ANALYSIS
1. According to the text, there are three levels that political risk encompasses. And they are firm
specific, country specific and global specific risks. Starbucks is considered a thriving global
enterprise. Although Starbucks has successfully entered, penetrated, and saturated many global
markets, not all attempts have been successful. Starting in 1996, Starbucks has hastily moved into 41
countries fruitfully. However, Starbucks had to pull out of Israel market after opening only 6 stores.
According to our research (Richey, Brenda, July 2006), the following will describe Starbucks
unsuccessful venture into Israel; the four main contributors to Starbucks failure in Israel: politics, ...

When Starbucks removed themselves from Israel in April 2003, they stated that it was due to
operational challenges and not the current economic and political status in the Middle East (Coussin,
n.d.). Starbucks was probably just trying to save their reputation by making this comment and did not
want to sound offensive.
Globalization is an invented term used to show a combination between the local and global
approaches. In theory, they maintain the main features of the brand, but they modify it to meet the
local cultures needs. Starbucks should have looked at KFC s failure entering is Israel as an example of
what not to do. KFC did not realize that the slaughtering of chicken in Israel was totally different from
other countries. On top of that, they were a kosher society that did not eat pork, so KFC attempted to
adapt their pig gelatin chicken coating. A successful example that Starbucks should have followed was
McDonald s success in Israel. McDonalds understood that in Israel food was very important and they
needed to adjust food preparation in order to be embraced. They decided to grill their hamburgers
instead of frying them (Coussin, n.d.). Starbucks didn t manage to adapt themselves to the regional
coffee culture. Starbucks did not modify any of their existing beverages, food products, or pricing.
They should have introduced unique food items like falafels, blintzes, and mandelbrot (Thompson,
2006).

of the American Civil War and the iconic image of the great emancipator himself, President Abraham
Lincoln. The truth to be told though, slavery in United States history predates those events and figures.
It actually started before the United States was even founded. Slavery in the United States actually

consider the pregnant woman non useable. This would make her period longer. Some owners would

The Long Road For Women s Suffrage Analysis
The Victorian era was a time of tremendous advancement in almost every aspect of society. These
Changes affected the British society, economy and social standards. Although it may have been
considered as a period of development, it was likewise a time of inconvenience and anxiety because of
the Industrial Revolution in which England turns into the first modern country. Thus, the Industrial
Revolution brought benefits as well as wretchedness to the British people, specifically to women.
British women in the nineteenth century lived in an age characterized by gender inequality. At the
beginning of the century, women relished few of the legal, social, or political rights, as they could not

 Did the campaign for women s suffrage succeed in achieving its cause?
In an attempt to answer the former questions, this humble work is a combination of three chapters:
The first chapter entitled: The Profile of Women in the British Society during the Nineteenth Century,
is connected with the social history of women at that time, in addition to their status, position, rights,
and the social classes they came from. It provides a description of the kind of education that the
Victorian girls have received. Moreover, it gives a vision of married women and their rights, and the
issues of sex, divorce, and spinsters as well. The second chapter entitled: The Long Road for Women s
Suffrage, begins with the feminist s arguments about women which warmed the demand for the
women s suffrage in the late 19th century and early twentieth century. It analyses in detail the
propaganda material used by the suffrage movement and examines the interaction between the way the
suffrage organisations viewed and related to the political system, and the way political leaders and
parties viewed and acted in response to suffrage activities. It highlights also, the anti suffrage
movements and the activities that had been done by suffragists during the outbreak of

The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed
Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of
hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality
where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an
issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Lee
statue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of
White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all
throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate
slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began
the American Civil War and endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union
won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states
honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the
Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and
learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of
Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed
from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in
remembering our infamous racial past.
To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is
given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for
a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space
for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning
of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a man who believed
and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own, infamously named the
Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality and discrimination

Corporate Finance Analyst Of The Investment Bank
Introduction:
The corporate finance analyst of the investment bank is required to compute the fair price of the bond
and to estimate the number of bond issuing. The computation is based on the yield to maturity, which
measures the return that an investor would expect to receive by holding a bond until maturity.
The Yield Curve, also known as term structure of interest rate, is a commonly used financial tool that
tracks the relation between the yields and the time to maturity of a bond. Estimating the yield on a non
currently traded bond and identifying mispriced bonds are the purposes of using the yield curve. It
could, furthermore, be used to forecast future performance of the yield on a bond. (Harris, 2014) The

Knowing that, the A rated bond, which was required to issue for the purpose of raising five million

Results:
Considering the third order polynomial method with using the OLS regression, gave the values of

relationship between the yields and the time to maturity, could be determined. ( Fig. 2) Given that the
time to maturity of required issuing bond was 15 years, which could therefore gave the yield of

Commanding Heights
The purpose of this paper is threefold, first to provide a synopsis of the third episode of the PBS video
Commanding Heights , second to assess the success or failure of NAFTA and its implications for U.S.
economy and in the future., and thirdly to explain the three most important issues faced by the WTO
and the World Bank.
SYNOPSIS
The third episode of the Commanding Heights series is titled The New Rules of the Game and
examines the growth of globalization from the 1990 s through today. Globalization, which moved to a
grand scale in the 1990 s, has ushered in the greatest expansion of trade in world history. This
unprecedented level of trade provides many opportunities for wealth, but also creates crises which had

The contagion finally hit South Korea in December of 1997, merely 5 months after the downfall of the
Thai economy. Korea, like Mexico was given a huge bailout, the largest in history of $55 billion. This
move ended the contagion in South East Asia, but left a wake of despair as poverty once again grew in
these developing Asian countries. Although the contagion in Asia was over, it had not yet started in
other parts of the world.
The crisis would hit Russia next, as investors envisioned low risk for an ex super power with lots of
atomic weapons. The investors reasoned that rich countries would surely bail out Russia to avert
instability if a financial crisis arose. The investors were wrong; Russia defaulted on its loans and there
was no bailout from rich nations. The sentiment within the investor community now swung from one
of high risk tolerance to high risk aversion. The crisis would head to America next, when little know
hedge fund LCTM (Long Term Capital Management) neared bankruptcy. LCTM controlled $100
billion in assets and was involved in all markets world wide, including Tokyo, Singapore, London and
Hong Kong. The decline in these world markets caused losses in LCTM to spiral downward.
Contagion had now come to Wall Street. Since LCTM was a private fund, the government could not
bail them out. Fortunately, U.S. banks stepped in and saved LCTM, averting disaster. The

Structuralism And Post-Structuralism In Language
Structuralism originated in the works of Ferdinand de Saussure, a Swiss linguist in the 20th century.
An attempt to study a specific whole as a complex system of interrelated parts, it soon came to be
applied to many other fields. Structuralism is closely related to Semiotics and Saussure focused on the
underlying system of language, langue instead of the use of language. Yet, the discovery of langue is
possible only with an examination of parole, speech. Apart from favouring the synchronic
development of language over the diachronic version, he also asserts that linguistic signs consist of a
signifier and a signified. Hence, this approach is different from those that focus on the relationships
between words and the objects they implicate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Post Structuralist writing is emotive. Such texts will tend to be euphoric, urgent and flashy.
The general notion of Structuralism is that the world is constructed by language. It is only through
linguistics, that reality is envisioned. In contrast, Post Structuralism argues that realities are created by
languages. All aspects of human experience become textual and everything one thinks of, be it about
self or the world, depends on language.
Both Structuralism and Post Structuralism arise from Saussure s linguistic theory and so, emphasize
on language. In this way, there are identical. Moreover, both accept language as a system of signs that
exists separately from any physical or mental reality. Similarly, Structuralism and Post Structuralism
will also together acknowledge that a subject is possible only through language. Hence, language
overrides humans as the source of action and meaning and so, Structuralism and Post Structuralism
are non humanistic [5]. Structuralism is deterministic as all power to structure one s perceptions lie
with the system. Hence, Structuralism is, in particular, anti humanist

Phage Research Paper
As shown in the above results finding a phage is not guaranteed. Even when using multiple different
soil samples and different protocol to isolate a phage there is still chance you won t find a phage.
There were no phages present within any of the plates there are a lot of reasons why this might be. The
main reason is probably because of possible errors such as removing from the aseptic zone which
would prevent contamination or having improper techniques for top agar pouring which could also
screw the data. A lot of the soil samples collected were very dense and when we got our enrichment
medium soil mixture back from the shakers we did notice that our soil samples had not separated as
much as other groups. This could have caused contamination ... Show more content on

Though antibiotics have been able to be used in the past to help treat and cure diseases resistance to
most antibiotics is building up fast and medicine needs a new way to treat these diseases and many
other issues. With the use of phage therapy this has become possible since phages attack specific
bacteria it is unlikely that resistance issues will arise like with antibiotics. Also, unlike antibiotics you
will most likely only need one low dose so it is most likely going to be more effective since there
shouldn t patient cooperation issues. Another advantage of using bacteriophages is that new phages are
being discovered everyday leading to more breakthroughs in disease control, bacterial contamination,
and many other issues. Though there are many advantages to using bacteriophages there are a few
disadvantages. One disadvantage is that in order to prescribe phages doctors will need to have an
extended amount of knowledge on the matter which may me that some doctors will choose not use
them. Another disadvantage would be that phages have a very narrow host range means that s in order
to prescribe them you will need to know the specific host you are trying to infect which could me
running a lot of test. Overall, so far the advantages out weight the disadvantages but there is still a lot
more research that needs to be conducted but one thing that we can be sure of is that phages are

Health Problems due to the production of Sriracha sauce
Sriracha sauce was invented in late 1980s, by an immigrant from Vietnamese named David Tran. He
started off with a small family company called Huy Fong Foods, a two building place. Due to the
increasing demand of the product; in 2012, the production was moved to a 655,000 sq. ft. factory in
Irwindale, Los Angeles. Initially, the plant was operating effectively, however in October 2013, the
local residents complained about the powerful spicy odor that originates during the production.
According to the Los Angeles times, they filed a lawsuit against the company, appealing that the odor
was causing trouble in public. They demanded for the company to shut down or hold the production,

They were not able to track the odor to the factory (Shyong, 2013).
According to the Anita Gore, the health department spokeswoman, this hold will be necessary for
making sure the treatment of exciting microorganisms in the product is done successfully. She further
explained that a temporary hold on the product, at a certain pH level, will control the harmful
microorganisms (NBC, 2013).
If a large number of people would be affected by this issue, there would be more cases of chronic
respiratory problems, such as asthma, which is already a huge concern in itself. Any respiratory
problem, if untreated, can become fatal in no time.
The Primary intervention keeps the patients from being exposed to the disease. These include, wearing
a mask while being around the factory; staying indoors when the level of the irritants are high. The
secondary intervention slows down and possibly stops the progress of disease. These include, visiting
the doctor; reporting the signs and symptoms; moving to less polluted areas if possible. The tertiary
intervention helps to manage the disease process. These include, visiting the doctor on regular basis;
taking the medicines as prescribed (ATSDR, 2012).

their existing lawsuit. According to him, they did not abide by certain operating conditions, which

My Leadership Style Aligns Closely With Servant Leadership
My leadership style aligns closely to servant leadership. I lead with others in mind. I value everyone s
contributions and regularly seek out opinions. Cultivating a culture of trust is incredibly important to
me. A culture of trust creates a harmonious environment where each person can be appreciated for
their contribution and can feel a sense of personal accomplishment. I do not mind people making
mistakes but I prefer them to learn from their mistakes. I seek to unite all parties in a controversy and
can readily see the validity of alternative points of views. I m exceptionally open minded to untested
or unconventional ideas and have a high tolerance for differences. However, I have enormously low
tolerance for individuals putting their own egos or desires for self promotion ahead of the team. When
I see evidence of people acting in such a manner, I like to address the problem immediately with the
individuals. If the behavior continues after a couple of warnings, these individuals will not continue to
be part of my organization. When my loyalties and values are threatened, I can become very stubborn,
rigid, and demanding. The development of leaders is another key principle for me. I like to teach
others to lead by providing opportunities for learning and growing through example and experience.
The development of leaders requires surrendering power and delegating others to lead. In some

Effects Of Anatomical Parts Of Ephedra Sinica
Ephedra (Ma Huang) is a genus of plant, most commonly derived from the dried herbaceous stems of
the Chinese species, Ephedra sinica (Figure 1a and 1b). The natural plant source produces six Ephedra
alkaloids, chemicals which are considered to be the active constituents of the plant; ephedrine,
pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, methylephedrine and methylpsuedoephedrine
(Figure 2) (Veitch et al., 2013). The presence and concentrations of these alkaloids depends primarily
on the plant species, origin, growing conditions, and the raw plant material processing, with most
species largely containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine (Haller et al., 2004). Metabolomic studies
have shown that anatomical parts of Ephedra sinica have different therapeutic pharmacological effects
and for this reason, have been used for different purposes in medicine. This was demonstrated by Lv
et al (2015), who used GC MS to compare the concentrations of Ephedra sinica in the stems (Ma
Huang) and in the roots (Mahuanggen) of different plant samples. It was concluded that the
pharmacologically important ephedrine alkaloids were present in higher quantities in the stems. This
is why Ephedra herb, sold as dry stems of Ephedra sinica, has been used as a commercial source of
ephedrine alkaloids worldwide, in particular Europe and America (Lee 2011).

Whale Rider Essay
In the Whale Rider, Nani Flowers is a stronger role model than Koro. She always advocated for Kahu,
and continuously stood up against Koro s traditional beliefs about women. Secondly, Nani Flower was
forgiving and altruistic towards everyone, even with Koro, in spite of his rigid attitude with Kahu. In
contrast, Koro was blinded by tradition, thus making Kahu feel as if she was not good enough for
Koro simply due to the fact that she was a girl, a factor she could not control. Therefore, Nani Flowers
is evidently the better role model. Nani Flowers has always supported Kahu. When Kahu was first
born, Koro Apirana was against Kahu just being named after his ancestor, so burying her birth cord
anywhere near the long house would be very unacceptable in his eyes (page 25). Even with this in
mind, Nani still buried Kahu s birthcord In the sight of Kahutia Te Rangi (page 29). Another example
of this supportive behavior is when Kahu came home crying because of Koro, and the whales dying in
the movie (pages 46 48). Not only did Nani argue with her husband, Koro, she kicked him out because
he would not reconcile his traditional beliefs about Maori leadership and rights with Kahu s birth
(page 48). Lastly, throughout the whole novel, Nani Flowers has repeatedly encouraged and stood up
for Kahu, especially against Koro s outlook on Kahu (pages 38, 50, 56 57, 89). ... Show more content

Representation Of Hamlet
The theatrical representation of Hamlet is one of mystery, action, character development, but most
importantly, tragedy. A considerable amount of people hold a common belief that the play, Hamlet, by
William Shakespeare is a tragedy, due to the fact that all the main characters perish at the end of the
play. An individual might take this stance on this argument upon first hearing. However, the reality of
the situation is that there are numerous parts of the play that show that this statement is not only
incorrect, but an oversimplified version of the bigger truth. Further investigation into this topic will
reveal that, in fact, the decisions the characters make throughout the duration of the play is where the
true tragedy builds up. At first, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with Ophelia s tragedy, Laertes suffers a tragedy of being deceived and used by Claudius as a
result of Hamlet s impulsive behavior as well, further assuring that the tragedy exhibits itself in the
conclusions drawn by the characters in the story. The tragedy inside Laertes that is the causation of
Hamlet s killing of Polonius is evident through the scene where Laertes confronts Claudius on why he
did not punish Hamlet for his malicious act. Claudius then goes on to trick Laertes into plotting
against Hamlet, and Laertes proclaims, And so I have a noble father lost;/A sister driven into desperate
terms/Whose worth. if praises may go back again,/Stood challenger on mount of all the age/For her
perfections. But my revenge will come (4.7.27 31.) At this moment in time, it can be seen that while
Laertes expresses his emotions of rage, he is being manipulated by Claudius, as well as how the
dramatic purpose shows character development, as the tragic outcome of being tricked like this for
personal gain stems from that of how Hamlet s actions had resulted in the loss of his father, which was
ultimately one of Hamlet s rash decisions. Upon closer look, the place where tragedy lies is not only
where all the characters die, but where the outcomes of the decisions the characters make throughout
the course of the play, such as when Hamlet commits homicide towards Polonius, or how Claudius
can cause tragedies with the way he lives his as

The Influence Of Socrates On Virtue And Knowledge
Born circa 469 until 399 B.C.E in Athens, Greece, Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who is
credited for laying the fundamentals of modern Western philosophy (Routledge, 1999). Socrates is
well known for his iconic trial and execution mainly for his disrespect of the Athenian democracy, his
development of what came to be known as the Socratic method and for his concern of virtue.
However, much of what we know of Socrates is from Plato s writings, as he did not leave any behind.
Socrates ethical theory was focused quite strongly on virtue and knowledge. He was adamant that the
most important goal is not merely surviving or staying alive but living well, not in the sense of wealth
or power, which he criticised the Athenian government of doing so but to live virtuously and justly.
As quoted by Socrates, Virtue is Knowledge . He believed that living virtuously would ultimately lead
to moral excellence and the way to the good life, which would in turn bring Eudemonia (Happiness).
However, what is virtue? As mentioned in Plato s Meno, Socrates himself did not know what virtue is.
Virtue is defined as any behaviour showing high moral standards. Synonyms ... Show more content on

by four major section in daily life. First of all, the common way of using eggshell is agriculture such

In the second place, the eggshells are utilized in medical part such as tooth re mineralizing, using the

eggshells is for a human. For example, people usually use it to make calcium power for intake in daily

reasons, I figured out a chemical formula for the eggshell. Eggshell is made up of 95% calcium
carbonate and 5% calcium phosphate with magnesium carbonate.
The formula CACO3 is very common in natural such as limestone cave, animal s bones. Normally, the

Big Bang Timeline
Timeline of The Big Bang
The broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe is the Big Bang model, which
states that the universe began as an incredibly hot, dense point roughly 13.7 billion years ago before
expanding into a large, unexplored cosmos; home to an unknown amount of planets and systems.
The universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and
energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the universe is
an infinitely dense, hot fireball. At 10 35 to 10 33 seconds a runaway process called Inflation causes a
vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped only when this
energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it.
After inflation, one millionth of a second after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand but not
nearly so quickly. The most basic forces in nature become distinct: first gravity, then the strong force
which holds nuclei of atoms together, followed by the weak and electromagnetic forces. By the first
second, the universe is made up of fundamental particles and energy: quarks, electrons, photons,
neutrinos and less familiar types. These particles merge together to form protons and neutrons. These
protons and neutrons come together to form the nuclei of simple elements: hydrogen, helium and
lithium. It will take another 300,000 years for electrons to be captured into orbits around these nuclei

Request Process to Activate DSCA
The state governor submits request for DSCA in writing to the office of the Executive Secretary of the
Department of Defense (DoD). (Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 3025.18, p. 3, 2010). After
the request submission, it goes through a screening and evaluating process. We must consider legality,
potential lethal force either by or against the DoD, and measure how much risk we are assuming with
accepting the mission. Estimating the cost on what it will take to assist the state in need and whether
accepting the mission is appropriate to the DoD s interest to provide support or if it will take away
from the DoD s abilities to perform their mission are all factors in the evaluating process. Upon
request approval, the Secretary of Defense appoints a Federal Coordination Officer (FCO) and
establishes a Joint Field Office (JFO) to coordinate federal disaster response and relief efforts. The
JFO will work closely with the secretary of the State Coordinating Officer. From there, DSCA

PHYSICAL METHOD OF STRESS MANAGEMENT.
Drugs.
Strengths.
Prescribed drug treatment seems to be the strongest source of psychological stress control. Anti
depressants and BZs are prescribed to reduce the feelings of anxiety or depression induced through
stress induced illness. The effect of the drugs is simple; they suitably block or reduce the activity of
the brains neurotransmitter for release of serotonin, or directly reduce activity in the pathways leading
to the nervous system around the body, not allowing blood pressure or the heart rate to rise, as it is
these bodily systems that influence the feelings of anxiety. Once blocked or suppressed the individual
when faced with a stressor will feel much calmer and able to cope with the unwanted stressor
presented to them.
Weaknesses.
All drugs present side effects which are usually unpleasant. Most common side effects are nausea,
dizziness and stomach upset. Other side effects experienced are drowsiness and subdued awareness,
these are more serious side effects which can cause a threat to personal safety whilst driving or if you
are in a job that requires you to operate machinery. Drugs only treat the physical feelings experienced
from stress and not the psychological cause so also

Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory
who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster
than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to
constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can
lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There
are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness
(answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal
effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is
distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on
learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly
identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand
the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system
has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory
actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism
social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. This has to do with connecting the
social muscles of the face (eyes, mouth and middle ear) with the heart. This system is

Statistics And Crime Statistics On Crime
Official crime statistics refer to statistical data which are compiled by official agencies such as the
police and courts, and are published by the state. National statistics about crime in England and Wales
have been collected and published by the Home Office annually since 1857. These figures are
compiled by putting together the offences recorded by the police in each of the forty three police areas
in England and Wales. The statistics contained in these volumes are of great significance, not only for
those who study crime or work in the criminal justice system, but also for politicians, the mass media
and the general public, for whom these are the major source of authorized information about the extent
and trends in crime. These figures give an indication of whether crime is increasing or decreasing and
allow geographical areas to be compared, they also give a good indication of police workload.
However, official statistics on crime arguably have serious deficiencies. Whether official crime
statistics are an accurate measure of the extent and seriousness of crime can be questioned for a
number of reasons, which will be discussed in the following essay. Alternative methods of measuring
crime such as self report studies and victim surveys, which may be a more accurate measure of the
extent and seriousness of crime will also be discussed.
A crucial factor that can affect the recorded level of crime is the extent to which members of the
public are prepared to report

by those you lead. (Silverstein 2009, pg. 115) In order to lead there must be people willing to follow.
The privilege of being a leader is earned based upon choices and actions. Leadership truly is a way of
life for the leader and to those that choose to follow.
There are many opportunities for a person to follow a leader. They are found at home, at school, in
churches, in education, in businesses, in communities and in the government. There are good leaders
and bad leaders. Samuel C. Certo, author of Supervision: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers who inspire students to want to learn the material are most effective.
Successful businesses demonstrate positive leadership through their contributions to society and the
communities where they operate. They do this by exercising social responsibility, being supportive in
the success of their community by hosting projects and fundraisers for local charities and sponsoring
local events. They can offer the community internship opportunities for students at schools. Internal to
business operations leaders can be found in employees ranking from the bottom to the top. This is not
a title, it is a demonstration of personal accountability and responsibility.
Another opportunity for leadership can be found at home and in churches. Students begin their
learning at home from a parent or guardian. This person or people provide the first available moment
for a child to witness leadership. The choices parents and guardians make influences the children they
have in a major way. If a parent decides to use drugs and lead that type of a lifestyle, this will have a
great impact on the child. The child can either decide that this is not a life he or she would choose to
lead or the child will think this life is normal and follow in their leaders footsteps. A parent or
guardian can choose to raise their child with the guidance of a pastor and a church. Every choice that a
guardian makes for their child, impacts that child greatly either

Public Diplomacy And The Foreign Affairs Of The Republic...
Working for government we can t distinguish specific industry that it function in. Governments take
care of varieties issues that are important for country and its society. As an industry in this specific
environment I would call it public diplomacy industry. Public diplomacy pursued by the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs consists of a set of strategic, conceptual, analytical, coordinating and executive actions
seeking to impact social attitudes and public opinion abroad and thereby to secure the principal
interests of the Republic of Poland across the globe. This is done by using tools and methods from
outside the realm of traditional diplomacy, essentially confined to intergovernmental relations. The

History In 1822, when Brazil won its independence, Poland did not exist on maps of the political
world. In the years 1795 1918 the Polish lands were occupied countries by neighboring countries
Russia, Austria and Prussia. The struggle for independence, taken by another generation of Poles,
reflexes elicited sympathy of many societies, including Brazilian. Emperor of Brazil, Peter I, during a
performance in Paris, issued in favor of participants of the November Uprising (1831), he exclaimed:
Vive la Pologne! It ts successor in turn, Peter II, agreed to accept the membership of Polish émigré
patriotic associations based in Rapperswil, Switzerland, which certifies todays diploma awarded by
the Société Nationale des Amis et Polonaise de la Pologne. In the year1907 at the Second International
Peace Conference in The Hague, the representative of Brazil Ruy Barbosa, a prominent lawyer and
politician, in his fiery speeches repeatedly advocated the restoration of Poland s independence. Not
surprisingly, that Brazil was the first country in Latin America, which announced that it recognizes the
emergence of a united and independent Polish . The position of these was presented August 17, 1918

The Benefits Of Mandated Reading In High School
Reading has not really been one of my strong points. I remember my mom reading to me at a very
young age, but that was listening not reading. So, one could say, listening was a big part of my life,
but reading was not. Reading is not something I do for pleasure. I see reading as something I am taxed
with, something I must do. I am repeatedly punished with required summer reading and textbook
reading. There is no joy or pleasure trying to read chapter after chapter, only because you HAVE TO.
The fun in reading, especially in high school, has been killed by education and turned into the chore
worse than any other. The days of blissfully listening to a book have long past.
Mandated reading in high school invariably means a look at the past and being educated by the
classics . The meanings of books are shouted at students. These book have been read countless times
by an innumerable people and high school students are expected to regurgitate exactly what these
outdated classics are all about. Students are expected to figure out these classics and are brainwashed
to find the importance of select literary terms like tone, mood, and purpose. I find it ironic that as a
high school student, I am expected to relate to a middle aged author from 100 years ago. I am
personally sick of being shouted at. I miss simpler times when I could really understand the meaning
of a book, it whispered softly at me and did not yell at me and cause me to cringe. But I am not here to
tell people what I think about reading, I am here to talk about how it has shaped me. So, buckle up, it s
going to be a bumpy ride.
Rewind to childhood. I was read the commonplace child s books and I can vividly remember each and
every one of the Dr. Seuss books. In addition, my mom continued to bribe me to read by reading just
about anything relating to Thomas the Tank Engine. Again, I was not really reading, but I was
listening. I became a very good listener. My childhood reading continued until my younger brother
learned how to read at which point my mom no longer read out loud to us, but rather I was expected to
read independently. I resisted change, as most people do, and chose to read only books with pictures.

Picasso Mother
Pablo Picasso s The Mother, 1901, is an oil painting on cardboard mounted on panel. The painting
depicts the scene of a mother carrying a toddler with one hand, and holding her child in the other
hand. These three figures are in the foreground, and behind them, we can see slight landscape of
houses, a hill, and the sky. Although Picasso depicts the simple subject of the mother and her two
children, he represents the mom s exhausting and rough life through dull composition, faded and blue
color, and rough style. Picasso creates a still composition of figures, and conveys heaviness and
roughness in the painting. Among the group of the mother and children, the mom is the biggest subject
in the painting. He slightly tilts her to the direction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reproduction is largely compared to the original work especially in the color and texture. Most
noticeable difference is first in color. In the painting, Picasso intentionally uses dull and cold colors
and creates the rough mood. Particularly, he uniquely paints blue shades in the mother s profile,
expressing her tiredness and depression. However, in the reproduction, most colors are whitened. The
faded gray in the sky and even dull blue in the mother are all shown as white in the postcard. While
whitening out the subtle cold shades in the original work, it creates more contrast in color. The light
colors are brightened, almost whitened, and dark colors, such as black in outlines or the mother s
cloth, are far more darkened. The color contrast becomes more obvious and clear in the

Juvenile Violent Crime And Juvenile Crime Rates
According to (Walton, 2014), as far back as the late 1800 s, children have been sentenced to the same
punishments as adults, depending on the crime they committed. Punishments even included death if
the juvenile was deemed to be past the point of help. Later on courts were geared more towards
rehabilitation than punishment. Reform movements came along and parents could send their children
off to reformatories to live and work as part of their rehabilitation. Due to poor living and working
conditions many of these places were closed down.
Soon after the Progressive Era, the first juvenile court system was opened in Illinois. The main focus
of these courts was rehabilitation for the juveniles (Fiorillo, 2013). Juvenile violent crime rates had
increased so much that law makers knew they had to do something to combat all of the violence.
Juveniles were committing murder, assault, rape and other serious crimes which sent the public into a
fear overload. These increases in juvenile violent crimes lead to some of our early get tough on
juvenile laws. Policy makers were inclined to push for harsher laws for juveniles who committed
violent crimes.
The increase in juvenile crimes led lawmakers away from implementing laws the focused on
rehabilitation and back to laws that focused on punishment. States began to develop statutes allowed
juveniles to be tried in the same court system and receive the same sentences as adults. These statutes
brought important reforms to the juvenile

The Social Causes Of Social Solutions To Climate Change
Climate change is one of the most harmful things to humanity because it affects everyone who lives
on Earth. Though there are social problems, such as war or racism, that may affect certain groups of
people, even those with no human contact are affected by climate change in some way.
Although part of climate change is caused by natural forces, humans unquestionably do contribute to
the effects of climate change. As a whole society, we all impact climate change. This cannot be
blamed on an individual and their choices. Those people didn t chose to be affected by climate change
in any way. They did not have free choice in whether or not to contribute to climate change. It wasn t a
few people that added on to the effects due to selfishness or cruelty and people don t contribute
because of psychological or physical issues within themselves. It is all of our combined actions that
add up and have the effects of the climate change we see today.
In order to combat a social issue, we must have social solutions to this problem. It is essential for us to
come together and fight against warming and climate change. The less we blame others and start
acting upon this issue ourselves, we will have a bigger impact on climate change quicker and more
efficiently. Though we have been dealing with the human influence on climate change for centuries,
especially since the Industrial Revolution, we can still lessen the effects. We can t expect the problem
to go away if only a few people decide to

Summary Of Shackled By Celiac Disease Essay
Shackled by Celiac Disease As a tear slips down her cheek, five year old Addi continues with her hair
raising screams. For two nights now, she has had miserable abdominal pain. Clueless as to why, her
helpless mother tries to soothe her frazzled daughter. Switching her diet, checking her stool, watching
her closely, mom finds nothing out of the ordinary. So the question remains, what is wrong? Why
these sudden sleepless nights? After reading a medical website or paper, you miraculously come to the
conclusion that you have every disease listed. This can be terrifying. If you are prone to this sort of
deception, then this might not be the paper for you. On the other hand, if you earnestly believe you
might have celiac disease (CD), or are just curious as to what the symptoms, diagnosing, and
treatment are, then read on and enjoy. If celiac disease is not detected soon after development, a higher
risk for other autoimmune disorders increase. The greatest defense against these complications is to
know the symptoms and signs of celiac disease. As expected, CD is filled with lots of unique
symptoms, but the main ones include gastrointestinal issues, delayed growth, and on certain occasions,
depression. One of the most common symptoms of celiac disease that bring patients to their doctor is
constipation (Beyond Celiac). Constipation occurs when the gastrointestinal track cannot properly
digest the food. The creator of all these problems is the villi. Residing in the small

aspects that players can use in the future, forming an understanding for how both genders feel, and
added benefits for girls are the main reasons why these players are playing on the same teams. Girls
and boys should be able to play on the same sports teams. Girls and boys should be able to play on the
same team because it provides many needed social aspects that a child can use in the future. Many
boys and girls are nervous or immature around each other and playing on the same sports team can
reduce that nervousness by forcing them to socialize with each other to form a well known and well

The Islamic Religion Of Islam
The Islamic religion according to the Quran, is supposed to be a nonviolent religion that promotes
peace to others and especially people of there own religion. The way that the Islamic religion is now is
much different than it was in the past based on the Quran. During the times we studied in class, the
Muslims were very obeying of their ruler and their religion. An example of proper loyalty shown by
the Muslims is during the crusades. In today s society, people continue to break the rules of the Quran
through terrorism. Terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and Isis are two examples of Islamic terrorist
organizations. Since the time we studied in class, the Islamic religion has turned to a much more
violent religion The Quran is the most sacred document to the Islamic people and basically tells them
the way that they need to live. The Quran forces Islamic people to obey the Five Pillars of Faith .
These pillars include declaring the creed, which is There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his
Prophet. They also have to pray five times a day facing the sacred city of Mecca, give alms to the poor
in the community, fast each day during the month of Ramadan (the ninth month of the year), and make
a hajj, which is a pilgrimage to Mecca once in their lifetime (Spodek 348). The Quran also directly
states [2:190] fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits,
surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits , This means that you may

Rebecca Evaluation
Rebecca, published in 1938, was Daphne du Maurier s most successful novel. In 1940, film director
Alfred Hitchcock won the Best Picture Oscar with his first Hollywood film, Rebecca, based on the
book Rebecca and starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. The narrator of the story, a naïve
young woman, marries Maxim de Winter, an aristocrat several years older than herself. They return to
his large country home, Manderley, in Cornwall, to a life that his new wife knows little about.
Inexperienced, self conscious and lacking in confidence, the new Mrs de Winter finds her life
dominated by the shadow of Maxim s first wife, Rebecca, who died at Manderley a year earlier. The

intimidated, Mrs de Winter begins to doubt her relationship with her husband; she thinks that Maxim
is still in love with the perfect Rebecca. Things, however, change dramatically when the sunken boat
is discovered. Rebecca s body is found in the boat at the bottom of the sea, and this leads Maxim to
confess the truth to his new wife. He and Rebecca hated each other. Rebecca had series of love affairs,
and then she claimed to be pregnant by another man and threatened to burden Maxim with the
responsibility of raising the child. Maxim killed her and took the body out in the boat, which he sank
at sea. Instead of being scared of the murderer, Mrs de Winter is relieved to hear that Maxim didn t
and doesn t love Rebecca. Chapter 8 The Inquiry There is an inquest, and the boat builder makes a

United States Nuclear Program Essay
Since its primary colonization by the British during the 1600 s, America has struggled with the
concept of freedom. Some people came for political or religious freedom and others were brought and
servants and fought for freedom. (Wallach 2010). In the 1700 s colonists openly sought to sever their
ties with England and to govern themselves. July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence showed the
world that America was free from someone else s rule. As a result, democracy spread around the world
as a government by the people, for the people, with America at its forefront as a world rolemodel and
superpower.

On December 21st, 1938, Nazi Germany accidently discovered nuclear fishionmaking it a major threat
to the entire world. As a result, the scientific community became alarmed that Germany might use the
energy to construct a bomb with the power to cause indescribable destruction. Scientists Albert
Einstein, who fled Nazi persecution, and Enrico Fermi, who escaped Fascist Italy, were living in the
United States at this time (The Manhattan Project Project 2017, para. 2). Both realized the significance
of this discovery and that President Roosevelt needed to be warned immediately. While Roosevelt did
not understand the need to start an atomic program, he agreed to slowly create one. In 1941, the
American effort began and on May 12, 1942, President Roosevelt officially created the Manhattan
project, the secret program to develop the atom bomb (The Manhattan Project n.d.). The atomic bomb
had two objectives: a quick end of World War II and possession by the U.S. (and not the U.S.S.R.),
would allow control of foreign policy (The Cold War n.d.). In addition, the U.S. wanted to protect
itself against direct attacks like Japan s attack on Pearl Harbor.Ultimately The Manhattan Projecy
created the most destructive warefare ever. It denoted the nuclear era s beginning. On July 16 1945 the
first atomic bomb was detonated, dubbed the trinity test.

What s Eating Gilbert Grape Quotes
Despite the fact that everyone has a past, some will let it define them, while others won t let it shape
their future. In the movie What s Eating Gilbert Grape? the main character, Gilbert Grape, is
indecisive of what to do with his life. Gilbert is having to deal with the burden of the responsibilities
his suicidal father left behind.
This was symbolically represented through the house. Especially when Gilbert states, My father built
this house, and it s my job to do the repairs. This quote displays the foundation to all of his problems.
The house is a representation of Gilbert s life, because the longer he stays in Endora and tries to fix
what is falling apart in his house, and in his personal life, the more the tension builds on his shoulders.
Furthermore, just like every problem has its roots, Gilbert s endless frustration started in the basement,
where his inattentive father took his life. This grief only left him with the inherited obligation to seek
and support his family. Unfortunately, Gilbert had to face the cruel ... Show more content on

unexpected of letting out his frustration on his defenseless brother, Arnie. That is when Gilbert finally
realized that he couldn t keep living like that, and so he decided to break off of all the boundaries
keeping him away from his own life. Gilbert made a complete three hundred sixty degree turn by

  • 2. Reflection Essay On Observation To obtain knowledge, one must study; but to receive wisdom, one must observe. Observation, often defined as the action or process of watching something or someone to gain information. Throughout the semester, students within the education department had the genuine opportunity to both learn and grow as future educators through observations outside of the classroom. Throughout the semester, I chose to observe at the following programs: Breakaway at Westridge Church, Poole Elementary School s Learning Bridge, and AWANA at Callie Harbin Baptist Church. As a future educator, I learned that often observation is education as education and learning are so much more than a textbook. For my first observation, I chose to observe at a respite event known as Breakaway at Westridge Church located in Dallas Georgia. Breakaway is a cost free respite event for both special needs participants and their families. This function allows individuals of all ages to enjoy supervised entertainment and activities planned precisely for them. Breakaway, Outdoor Extravaganza, an event consisting of carnival clowns, games, outdoor inflatables, corn hole, hayrides, arts, crafts, face painting, petting zoo, music, and so much more. Through this observation, I had the genuine opportunity to view life from different perspectives as special needs individuals enjoyed a day prepared explicitly for them. For example, I had the opportunity to share such a joyous day with an individual who holds my heart captive. I sat back and watched as he rode the hayride with his volunteer; consequently, my heart filled with joy as he laughed the whole way through. Once the hayride came to a close, he and his volunteer traveled to visit the fire trucks and see all of its bells and whistles as he had the chance to climb inside. In addition to all the excellent outdoor activities, each child had a chance to hang out, listen to music, see ballet dancers perform, and hear the word of God brought forth through interactive Bible stories. This experience overjoyed my heart as I saw firsthand that children with special needs paint the world with beautiful colors every day as they love more profound than one s mind can fathom. For my second ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Speech On Exercise With all the choices and methods of exercise these days, many of us are confused about what is best and what will work for them. Hopefully I can clear up some of this confusion about fitness, and talk about what methods I feel are most effective. Being involved in the Fitness and Sports Medicine Industry for the past twenty years, I ve seen and used every form of exercise machine, fad program, and group class imaginable. I ve seen and done some scary things and have learned from my mistakes and observations. Let me mention old school methods of exercise and training. Exercise fads may come and go, but some things still remain constant. I remember my Physical Education classes back in grade school, and playing on the playground at recess. Those were fun times. Our Phys Ed teachers actually had the insight of getting us to exercise without us knowing it. They used things like balls, bars, ropes, obstacle courses, and certain ... Maybe this is one reason so many of us have sore backs due to improper body mechanics. Olympic weight lifters are some of the most athletic and powerful athletes around. This is just in the nature of the sport. To explain it simply the object of the sport is to pick an object up off the floor to your shoulders (the clean) or overhead position as efficiently as possible (clean and jerk or snatch). I will not bore you with the details of Olympic Weight Lifting at this time. If you think about it, you probably execute these types of motions throughout the day in life. Weather you are lifting a child, a bag of groceries, or any object for that manner. Olympic lifting doesn t have to involve a bar with weights on it, any object can be used including dumbbells, medicine balls, stones, sandbags, and Russian Kettlebells (this in an article in ... Sure some Schools have a minimum G.P.A requirement of 2.0, and to get that all your classes have to be C or better. Well that s better than letting them have a 1.0 and letting them play. It makes them have something worth studying for, For example my friend Bryan Garcia does not like school or work but he is always looking for ways to make his grades better so that he may play with the John F. Kennedy soccer team. Also not all the states in the United States of America have a G.P.A requirement to play in a sport activity, twelve out of the fifty states in the USA require a G.P.A to play. • 5. Persuasive Essay On Genetic Engineering Genetic engineering is currently a growing field in which people are obsessing over. This is new and upcoming technology that combines genetic and Nanotechnological enhancements, which completes the direct manipulation of DNA to alter an organism s characteristics in a particular way. In my opinion, it may very well be a great improvement, but it should only be used when necessary. If I were a parent of a child under 12 years of age, I would not sign up for the enhancement. First of all, genetic engineering is simply a way of altering oneself. The enhancement may bring great skills to have, but unfortunately this is not only changing the child s mind completely, it is also giving them no self actualization ability. I agree with Baylis and Robert s idea of, Enhancement technologies having a deleterious impact on the genetic variability characteristic of the human gene pool (Baylis and Robert) because every human is different and unique in many aspects. This process literally weakens the authenticity of one s accomplishments and diversity throughout society. It holds that the engineered person s abilities and talents are no longer his or her own, but are simply because of the alteration. Children are supposed to be different in order to find their struggles and strengths, building themselves. If they are accelerated in everything possible, they will never find their paths in life. According to Baylis and Robert, The essence of humans is to nurture and protect the natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, Matt and Christina Drayton s attitudes are challenged when their daughter, Joanna (Joey), brings home a fiancé who is black, John Wade Prentice. This movie explores how different people related to John and Joanna react to the news of a possible marriage between a black man and a white woman. John tells Matt and Christina that he would not marry their daughter if they have an objection to the marriage. He also tells Matt and Christina that they only have that day to make a decision. BACKGROUND: This section provides succinct and coherent information about the important techniques and concepts that are related to this project such as what is an expert system and what is the ID3 algorithm which is used as the data mining technique. The following subsections are an overview for each of these concepts: 2.1 Expert Systems: Expert systems are computer programs capable of performing a task that normally requires the knowledge from experts in the field [9]. Two different approaches represent knowledge in expert systems. One is based on production rules (IF THEN), which are applied to the knowledge base in an orderly manner to produce the solution to a diagnostic problem [3]. The second approach is based on nodal networks of disease features linked together in a variety of patterns against which the new patient s features are compared by pattern matching. Some recent systems combine features of both approaches. A second generation of expert systems now make use of networks where causal pathophysiological information is embodied. This latter type provides particularly complex explanatory feedback [9]. There are many different techniques that can be used by expert systems and clinical decision support systems in order to improve the systems work such as: Causal Probabilistic Network, Neural Network, Bayesian Network, ... • 9. Jamestown Vs Plymouth Plantation Essay The Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation were big acts to our history today. Both plantations were similar and different in many ways. Jamestown was uniquely harsh, and I could somewhat say the same about the Plymouth plantation as well. In a matter of fact, the Jamestown and Plymouth plantation caused a ruckus in their towns/state, enough ruckus to maintain it s name and strength of time. Starting with Jamestown, it was a scarce plantation. Sailors got what they called better paid due to the ships staying for a longer. They weren t paid in money, but they were paid with bread, which was a good item to sell, barter, and love etc. There was something established called the surprise attack. This attack included Smith unexpectedly returning, the Spaniard greedily desiring gold, and Smith gets shot in the thigh. Jamestown s plantation was violent, and deceiving. Leading to the Plymouth Plantation, although the ships were very compact, they had an abundance of things accomplished. There were a lot of sicknesses and cursing. They were very religious with their beliefs. For example, they were against cursing, indecisive manners and such. Their sails were very calm and undergoing, yet they ship wasn t that sturdy. • 10. Social Norms This paper will give a definition of deviance by analyzing the varying types and definition of deviance. Violations of social norms is key to defining deviance. There are three key features within social norms: time, place, and situation, that come together to establish deviance. The relativity of the all of those events combined into one along with who is perceiving the act is what defines deviance Social Norm are informal rules that help govern a society. Criminal deviance is when a person becomes a deviant by disobeying the laws. Criminal deviance is easy to define because even though laws change from time, place, and situation they are written down and have already been agreed upon. Social deviance is much more difficult to define due to the informal nature of social norms. A person can be either non deviant, a criminal deviant, a social deviant, or bother a criminal and social deviant. Obey the speed limit can show all four these deviants. On highways in America the left lane is referred to as the fast lane and the right hand lane as the slow lane . A person going the maximum speed limit in the right hand lane is breaking neither laws nor social norms. A person going ten miles an hour(mph) under the speed limit in the right lane, assuming they are not slowing down to turn, is breaking the social norm of not going at least the speed limit, and is therefore a social deviant. They are not breaking any laws, however. A person going five to ten mph over the speed limit in the left hand lane is following the social norm. Since the person is going over the speed limit they are now considered a criminal deviant. A person who is driving 50 mph regardless of what lane they are is breaking both social norms and criminal laws, which makes them both a social and criminal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And they are firm specific, country specific and global specific risks. Starbucks is considered a thriving global enterprise. Although Starbucks has successfully entered, penetrated, and saturated many global markets, not all attempts have been successful. Starting in 1996, Starbucks has hastily moved into 41 countries fruitfully. However, Starbucks had to pull out of Israel market after opening only 6 stores. When Starbucks removed themselves from Israel in April 2003, they stated that it was due to operational challenges and not the current economic and political status in the Middle East (Coussin, n.d.). Starbucks was probably just trying to save their reputation by making this comment and did not want to sound offensive. Globalization is an invented term used to show a combination between the local and global approaches. In theory, they maintain the main features of the brand, but they modify it to meet the local cultures needs. Starbucks should have looked at KFC s failure entering is Israel as an example of what not to do. KFC did not realize that the slaughtering of chicken in Israel was totally different from other countries. On top of that, they were a kosher society that did not eat pork, so KFC attempted to adapt their pig gelatin chicken coating. A successful example that Starbucks should have followed was McDonald s success in Israel. McDonalds understood that in Israel food was very important and they needed to adjust food preparation in order to be embraced. They decided to grill their hamburgers instead of frying them (Coussin, n.d.). Starbucks didn t manage to adapt themselves to the regional coffee culture. Starbucks did not modify any of their existing beverages, food products, or pricing. They should have introduced unique food items like falafels, blintzes, and mandelbrot (Thompson, 2006). Global ... In an attempt to answer the former questions, this humble work is a combination of three chapters: The first chapter entitled: The Profile of Women in the British Society during the Nineteenth Century, is connected with the social history of women at that time, in addition to their status, position, rights, and the social classes they came from. It provides a description of the kind of education that the Victorian girls have received. Moreover, it gives a vision of married women and their rights, and the issues of sex, divorce, and spinsters as well. The second chapter entitled: The Long Road for Women s Suffrage, begins with the feminist s arguments about women which warmed the demand for the women s suffrage in the late 19th century and early twentieth century. It analyses in detail the propaganda material used by the suffrage movement and examines the interaction between the way the suffrage organisations viewed and related to the political system, and the way political leaders and parties viewed and acted in response to suffrage activities. • 17. The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Lee statue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil War and endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past. To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a man who believed and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own, infamously named the Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality and discrimination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Corporate Finance Analyst Of The Investment Bank Introduction: The corporate finance analyst of the investment bank is required to compute the fair price of the bond and to estimate the number of bond issuing. The computation is based on the yield to maturity, which measures the return that an investor would expect to receive by holding a bond until maturity. The Yield Curve, also known as term structure of interest rate, is a commonly used financial tool that tracks the relation between the yields and the time to maturity of a bond. Estimating the yield on a non currently traded bond and identifying mispriced bonds are the purposes of using the yield curve. It could, furthermore, be used to forecast future performance of the yield on a bond. (Fig. 1) Knowing that, the A rated bond, which was required to issue for the purpose of raising five million dollars debt, had a coupon rate of 5.5%, a maturity of 15 years and one $1000 face value . Results: Considering the third order polynomial method with using the OLS regression, gave the values of estimated parameters. (Table 1) Thus, the function of fitted yield curve, which estimated the relationship between the yields and the time to maturity, could be determined. ( Fig. 2) Given that the time to maturity of required issuing bond was 15 years, which could therefore gave the yield of 5.005% according to the fitted yield curve function. Consequently, this would give the bond price of $1051.748 and the number of bond that investment bank should issue to raise debt was 4754. For a more precise estimation, the sub data set of the A rated bonds that had the coupon rate ranging from 5% to 6% could be picked out and calculated with the same procedure applied as before. This would then gave the the yield to maturity of 4.957%, bond price of 1056.979 and the number of issuing bond of 4730. (Table 2) Limitation: The third order polynomial fitted yield curve approach gives the estimated relationship between yields and maturities, however, the fitted trend is not capable enough to explain the variation in bond yields perfectly. Although the contagion in Asia was over, it had not yet started in other parts of the world. The crisis would hit Russia next, as investors envisioned low risk for an ex super power with lots of atomic weapons. The investors reasoned that rich countries would surely bail out Russia to avert instability if a financial crisis arose. • 21. Structuralism And Post-Structuralism In Language Structuralism originated in the works of Ferdinand de Saussure, a Swiss linguist in the 20th century. An attempt to study a specific whole as a complex system of interrelated parts, it soon came to be applied to many other fields. Structuralism is closely related to Semiotics and Saussure focused on the underlying system of language, langue instead of the use of language. Yet, the discovery of langue is possible only with an examination of parole, speech. Apart from favouring the synchronic development of language over the diachronic version, he also asserts that linguistic signs consist of a signifier and a signified. However, Post Structuralist writing is emotive. Such texts will tend to be euphoric, urgent and flashy. The general notion of Structuralism is that the world is constructed by language. It is only through linguistics, that reality is envisioned. In contrast, Post Structuralism argues that realities are created by languages. All aspects of human experience become textual and everything one thinks of, be it about self or the world, depends on language. Both Structuralism and Post Structuralism arise from Saussure s linguistic theory and so, emphasize on language. In this way, there are identical. Moreover, both accept language as a system of signs that exists separately from any physical or mental reality. Similarly, Structuralism and Post Structuralism will also together acknowledge that a subject is possible only through language. Hence, language overrides humans as the source of action and meaning and so, Structuralism and Post Structuralism are non humanistic [5]. I do not mind people making mistakes but I prefer them to learn from their mistakes. I seek to unite all parties in a controversy and can readily see the validity of alternative points of views. • 25. Effects Of Anatomical Parts Of Ephedra Sinica Ephedra (Ma Huang) is a genus of plant, most commonly derived from the dried herbaceous stems of the Chinese species, Ephedra sinica (Figure 1a and 1b). The natural plant source produces six Ephedra alkaloids, chemicals which are considered to be the active constituents of the plant; ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, norephedrine, norpseudoephedrine, methylephedrine and methylpsuedoephedrine (Figure 2) (Veitch et al., 2013). The presence and concentrations of these alkaloids depends primarily on the plant species, origin, growing conditions, and the raw plant material processing, with most species largely containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine (Haller et al., 2004). Metabolomic studies have shown that anatomical parts of Ephedra sinica have different therapeutic pharmacological effects and for this reason, have been used for different purposes in medicine. This was demonstrated by Lv et al (2015), who used GC MS to compare the concentrations of Ephedra sinica in the stems (Ma Huang) and in the roots (Mahuanggen) of different plant samples. It was concluded that the pharmacologically important ephedrine alkaloids were present in higher quantities in the stems. This is why Ephedra herb, sold as dry stems of Ephedra sinica, has been used as a commercial source of ephedrine alkaloids worldwide, in particular Europe and America (Lee 2011). Secondly, Nani Flower was forgiving and altruistic towards everyone, even with Koro, in spite of his rigid attitude with Kahu. In contrast, Koro was blinded by tradition, thus making Kahu feel as if she was not good enough for Koro simply due to the fact that she was a girl, a factor she could not control. Therefore, Nani Flowers is evidently the better role model. Nani Flowers has always supported Kahu. When Kahu was first born, Koro Apirana was against Kahu just being named after his ancestor, so burying her birth cord anywhere near the long house would be very unacceptable in his eyes (page 25). Another example of this supportive behavior is when Kahu came home crying because of Koro, and the whales dying in the movie (pages 46 48). The Influence Of Socrates On Virtue And Knowledge Born circa 469 until 399 B.C.E in Athens, Greece, Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who is credited for laying the fundamentals of modern Western philosophy (Routledge, 1999). Socrates is well known for his iconic trial and execution mainly for his disrespect of the Athenian democracy, his development of what came to be known as the Socratic method and for his concern of virtue. However, much of what we know of Socrates is from Plato s writings, as he did not leave any behind. Socrates ethical theory was focused quite strongly on virtue and knowledge. He was adamant that the most important goal is not merely surviving or staying alive but living well, not in the sense of wealth or power, which he criticised the Athenian government of doing so but to live virtuously and justly. As quoted by Socrates, Virtue is Knowledge . He believed that living virtuously would ultimately lead to moral excellence and the way to the good life, which would in turn bring Eudemonia (Happiness). However, what is virtue? • 33. Big Bang Timeline Timeline of The Big Bang The broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe is the Big Bang model, which states that the universe began as an incredibly hot, dense point roughly 13.7 billion years ago before expanding into a large, unexplored cosmos; home to an unknown amount of planets and systems. The universe begins with a cataclysm that generates space and time, as well as all the matter and energy the universe will ever hold. For an incomprehensibly small fraction of a second, the universe is an infinitely dense, hot fireball. At 10 35 to 10 33 seconds a runaway process called Inflation causes a vast expansion of space filled with this energy. The inflationary period is stopped only when this energy is transformed into matter and energy as we know it. After inflation, one millionth of a second after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand but not nearly so quickly. The most basic forces in nature become distinct: first gravity, then the strong force which holds nuclei of atoms together, followed by the weak and electromagnetic forces. By the first second, the universe is made up of fundamental particles and energy: quarks, electrons, photons, neutrinos and less familiar types. These particles merge together to form protons and neutrons. These protons and neutrons come together to form the nuclei of simple elements: hydrogen, helium and lithium. Estimating the cost on what it will take to assist the state in need and whether accepting the mission is appropriate to the DoD s interest to provide support or if it will take away from the DoD s abilities to perform their mission are all factors in the evaluating process. The effect of the drugs is simple; they suitably block or reduce the activity of the brains neurotransmitter for release of serotonin, or directly reduce activity in the pathways leading to the nervous system around the body, not allowing blood pressure or the heart rate to rise, as it is these bodily systems that influence the feelings of anxiety. Once blocked or suppressed the individual when faced with a stressor will feel much calmer and able to cope with the unwanted stressor presented to them. Weaknesses. All drugs present side effects which are usually unpleasant. Most common side effects are nausea, dizziness and stomach upset. Other side effects experienced are drowsiness and subdued awareness, these are more serious side effects which can cause a threat to personal safety whilst driving or if you are in a job that requires you to operate machinery. • 36. Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness (answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. This has to do with connecting the social muscles of the face (eyes, mouth and middle ear) with the heart. This system is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Statistics And Crime Statistics On Crime Official crime statistics refer to statistical data which are compiled by official agencies such as the police and courts, and are published by the state. National statistics about crime in England and Wales have been collected and published by the Home Office annually since 1857. These figures are compiled by putting together the offences recorded by the police in each of the forty three police areas in England and Wales. The statistics contained in these volumes are of great significance, not only for those who study crime or work in the criminal justice system, but also for politicians, the mass media and the general public, for whom these are the major source of authorized information about the extent and trends in crime. These figures give an indication of whether crime is increasing or decreasing and allow geographical areas to be compared, they also give a good indication of police workload. However, official statistics on crime arguably have serious deficiencies. Whether official crime statistics are an accurate measure of the extent and seriousness of crime can be questioned for a number of reasons, which will be discussed in the following essay. Alternative methods of measuring crime such as self report studies and victim surveys, which may be a more accurate measure of the extent and seriousness of crime will also be discussed. A crucial factor that can affect the recorded level of crime is the extent to which members of the public are prepared to report ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Ben Silverstein, author of Managing People: Secrets to Leading for New Managers being a leader is not a right, it is a privilege, bestowed by those you lead. Leadership truly is a way of life for the leader and to those that choose to follow. There are many opportunities for a person to follow a leader. They are found at home, at school, in churches, in education, in businesses, in communities and in the government. There are good leaders and bad leaders. Samuel C. Certo, author of Supervision: ... Successful businesses demonstrate positive leadership through their contributions to society and the communities where they operate. They do this by exercising social responsibility, being supportive in the success of their community by hosting projects and fundraisers for local charities and sponsoring local events. They can offer the community internship opportunities for students at schools. Internal to business operations leaders can be found in employees ranking from the bottom to the top. This is not a title, it is a demonstration of personal accountability and responsibility. Another opportunity for leadership can be found at home and in churches. Students begin their learning at home from a parent or guardian. This person or people provide the first available moment for a child to witness leadership. The choices parents and guardians make influences the children they have in a major way. If a parent decides to use drugs and lead that type of a lifestyle, this will have a great impact on the child. The child can either decide that this is not a life he or she would choose to lead or the child will think this life is normal and follow in their leaders footsteps. • 41. The Benefits Of Mandated Reading In High School Reading has not really been one of my strong points. I remember my mom reading to me at a very young age, but that was listening not reading. So, one could say, listening was a big part of my life, but reading was not. Reading is not something I do for pleasure. I see reading as something I am taxed with, something I must do. I am repeatedly punished with required summer reading and textbook reading. There is no joy or pleasure trying to read chapter after chapter, only because you HAVE TO. The fun in reading, especially in high school, has been killed by education and turned into the chore worse than any other. The days of blissfully listening to a book have long past. Mandated reading in high school invariably means a look at the past and being educated by the classics . The meanings of books are shouted at students. These book have been read countless times by an innumerable people and high school students are expected to regurgitate exactly what these outdated classics are all about. Students are expected to figure out these classics and are brainwashed to find the importance of select literary terms like tone, mood, and purpose. I find it ironic that as a high school student, I am expected to relate to a middle aged author from 100 years ago. I am personally sick of being shouted at. I miss simpler times when I could really understand the meaning of a book, it whispered softly at me and did not yell at me and cause me to cringe. But I am not here to tell people what I think about reading, I am here to talk about how it has shaped me. So, buckle up, it s going to be a bumpy ride. Rewind to childhood. I was read the commonplace child s books and I can vividly remember each and every one of the Dr. Seuss books. In addition, my mom continued to bribe me to read by reading just about anything relating to Thomas the Tank Engine. Again, I was not really reading, but I was listening. I became a very good listener. My childhood reading continued until my younger brother learned how to read at which point my mom no longer read out loud to us, but rather I was expected to read independently. Although Picasso depicts the simple subject of the mother and her two children, he represents the mom s exhausting and rough life through dull composition, faded and blue color, and rough style. The faded gray in the sky and even dull blue in the mother are all shown as white in the postcard. While whitening out the subtle cold shades in the original work, it creates more contrast in color. • 43. Juvenile Violent Crime And Juvenile Crime Rates According to (Walton, 2014), as far back as the late 1800 s, children have been sentenced to the same punishments as adults, depending on the crime they committed. Punishments even included death if the juvenile was deemed to be past the point of help. Later on courts were geared more towards rehabilitation than punishment. Reform movements came along and parents could send their children off to reformatories to live and work as part of their rehabilitation. Due to poor living and working conditions many of these places were closed down. Soon after the Progressive Era, the first juvenile court system was opened in Illinois. The main focus of these courts was rehabilitation for the juveniles (Fiorillo, 2013). Juvenile violent crime rates had increased so much that law makers knew they had to do something to combat all of the violence. Juveniles were committing murder, assault, rape and other serious crimes which sent the public into a fear overload. These increases in juvenile violent crimes lead to some of our early get tough on juvenile laws. Policy makers were inclined to push for harsher laws for juveniles who committed violent crimes. The increase in juvenile crimes led lawmakers away from implementing laws the focused on rehabilitation and back to laws that focused on punishment. States began to develop statutes allowed juveniles to be tried in the same court system and receive the same sentences as adults. These statutes brought important reforms to the juvenile ... Though there are social problems, such as war or racism, that may affect certain groups of people, even those with no human contact are affected by climate change in some way. Although part of climate change is caused by natural forces, humans unquestionably do contribute to the effects of climate change. As a whole society, we all impact climate change. This cannot be blamed on an individual and their choices. Those people didn t chose to be affected by climate change in any way. They did not have free choice in whether or not to contribute to climate change. It wasn t a few people that added on to the effects due to selfishness or cruelty and people don t contribute because of psychological or physical issues within themselves. It is all of our combined actions that add up and have the effects of the climate change we see today. In order to combat a social issue, we must have social solutions to this problem. It is essential for us to come together and fight against warming and climate change. The less we blame others and start acting upon this issue ourselves, we will have a bigger impact on climate change quicker and more efficiently.
