Research Paper On Rhenium
Rhenium, pronounced REE nee em, was the last naturally occurring element to be discovered. It was
found by the German chemists Ida Tacke Noddack, Walter Noddack and Otto Carl Berg in the year of
1925 (Rhenium Element Information). They named the element after the Rhine River river in
Germany since that was the country of which they were from. Rhenium does not have any other
aliases which is why its element symbol of Re is not very different from its actual name. It holds the
atomic number of 75 and is located in group seven and period six on the periodic table (Gagnon). With
it being a special element and a metal, rhenium is a member of the transition metal group along with
other elements such as tungsten and platinum. The transition metals ... Show more content on

It is one of the rarest elements on the Earth with an abundance of something like one part per million
(Rhenium Element Information). Rhenium is can be found in ores like copper and molybdenum, and
often in conjunction with platinum. It is used widely as a catalyst in the production of lead free, high
octane gasoline, as an electrical contact material and quite frequently in flash photography (Rhenium).
While it plays a part in all of these things, none of them rely solely on pure rhenium. It tends to be
compounded with other substances. To gather rhenium, scientists use the method of copper refining to
extract it from the copper ore. With rhenium being an extremely rare element, it is in high demand for
its pure form. It costs $1,600 to buy 100 grams of the element, or $250 for one troy ounce (#75
Rhenium Re). While one may be thinking, Who would spend that much on an element and what
would they do with it? The truth is that since it is a rare and disappearing substance, many people
actually purchase it as an investment. Purchasing it is open to the public and it sells fast. Rhenium is a
benefit to our society because it is a strong element that is highly resistant to heat and water. It is also
used for electrical contact and is a huge part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) considering it is needed for fuel and turbines as well (Rhenium Element Information).

Wiping Out Medical Errors
Wiping out medication errors would diminish stumbles and mistakes, however, in the event that errors
were thrown out of it would make it extremely troublesome on medical professionals who might need
to work out exceptionally extensive curative terms. That is the reason numerous associations are

Drug mishaps initially happen to be of critics and detractors of all patients. Pharmaceutical errors and

The Meaning Of Coming Of Age Essay
The statement coming of age means to me that you are given more responsibility to do different
things, you are expected to be more mature and more trust is handed to you. These are just a few of
the things that are expected of you when you are coming of age because you are getting closer to
being a responsible, mature and trustworthy adult. The reason that I think you are given more
responsibility when you are coming of age is because you are getting older and about ready to move
out of the house, and when you do there won t be any excuses for not doing things that you are
supposed to do because it s on you for not doing what you are supposed to do. With that, you are given
more and more responsibility until you come of age to get you ready for the real world. ... Show more

Being mature means you have to know when to stop arguing and to respect others. You will be
expected to act like an adult even if you aren t one because if you don t learn how to before you come
of age, you won t be respected properly and it will be hard to get through life without being mature.
Being mature is one of the key things to be in life. In addition to the following expectations you are
expected to be when coming of age, being trustworthy is another key element to life for if you aren t
trustworthy it s very likely that you won t get hire or get fired from the job because how can someone
give you a task if they don t trust that you ll do it. Being trustworthy means to not only tell the truth at
all times but to do the right thing when no one is watching because if you do so, people will not only

Discuss and Analyse the Arguments for and Against Adopting...
Discuss and analyse the arguments for and against adopting a codified constitution in the UK.
A constitution is a set of rules that seek to establish the duties, powers and functions of the various
institutions of government. They also regulate the relationship between and among the institutions and
define the relationship between the state and the individual. There are many different types of
constitutions. The constitution that is in place in the UK is an uncodified one. In other words, it is not
written on a single bill and consists of various written and unwritten sources. An uncodified
constitution is not judiciable, not authorititative and also not entrenched. A codified constitution on the
other hand is written on a single ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would strengthen citizenship as it creates a clearer sense of political identity which may be
particularly important in an increasingly multicultural society.
One of the strongest arguments in favour of a codified constitution is that a codified constitution
would protect rights. Individual liberty would be more securely protected by a codified constitution
because it would define the relationship between the state and the citizens. As a result of this rights
would be more clearly defined and they would be easier to enforce than with the current uncodified
constitution that exists in the UK. An uncodified constitution can also lead to elective dictatorship
which further restricts rights. One way these rights could be defined is through a bill or rights in the
codified constitution. A bill of rights is a document that specifies the rights and freedoms of the
individual, and so defines the legal extent of civil liberty. In Britain there is no bill of rights on
terrorism legislation which exposes the weak protection of rights that an uncodified constitution
offers.
On the other hand there are many arguments against the idea of a codified constitution. One argument
is that codified constitutions are considered rigid. Higher law is more difficult to change than statute
law. It is easier to and quicker to introduce an Act of Parliament than to amend a constitution.
Uncodified constitutions are flexible as they are not entrenched like codified constitutions. Due to

Myocardial Infraction Is The Medical Term For A Heart Attack
Myocardial Infraction A Myocardial Infraction is the medical term for a Heart Attack. A heart attack
happens when oxygen rich blood is not able to get to the heart muscle. If blood to the heart is not
restored quickly enough the section of heart muscle without oxygen rich blood begins to die. The heart
muscle will continue to die for 6 to 8 hours at that point the heart attack is complete. A heart attack
happens because of Coronary Heart Disease . There is no single cause for Coronary Heart Disease but
there are risks factors that will increase your chances of getting it. It is the number one leading cause
of death in the United States. Coronary arteries provide blood to the heart and plaque buildup in the
Coronary arteries is a condition called atherosclerosis. This buildup of plaque happens over a period of
10 15 years. The plaque can rupture and form a blood clot on its surface this blood clot can block the
blood flow and the section fed by the artery will die. This can lead to unstable angina which is severe
and can last as long as 30 minutes. The dead tissue is replaced with scar tissue and can cause
unnoticeable damage. The scar tissue formed does not contract and the heart s pumping ability is
lessened. The pumping ability is decreased because of where the scar tissue is and the size of it.
A heart attack can occur for multiple reasons; angina is one of those reasons. Angina is an illness
where not enough oxygen is getting to the heart, it cans be misdiagnosed

Differences Between And Then There Were None And A Wrinkle...
In the movie productions of And Then There Were None and A Wrinkle In Time, the directors did not
follow the original storyline of the book. There are many differences between the books and the
movies, but there is also similarities. While most of the movie follows the storyline, there are some
changes made to the storyline. These changes made in the movie impacted the storyline a lot.
In A Wrinkle In Time, one of the biggest differences from the book is the plot sequencing in the
movie. The movie first starts with Meg at school daydreaming about her father and her talking with
each other on their stargazing rock, where in the book it starts with Meg talking about the

In the book, Vera accuses Lombard of being the killer and shoots him, she then goes and hangs
herself. The real killer, Wargrave, puts a confession letter in a bottle and throws it into the sea. He then
takes a pill that kills him. In the movie, none of this happens. Vera and Lombard become lovers and
trust that each other are not the killer, but to follow the nursery rhyme Lombard asks Vera to fire the
gun and he will fall to his knees to trick the killer. When she goes in the house, her room is set up for
her to hang herself and Wargrave is sitting there. Lombard comes in to hear Wargrave confessing to

killers. The driver of the boat, Fred Narracott, comes in and asks where the other guests are. Vera and
Lombard tell Narracott to call for them, while they run off. The movie then ends, but from there you
could predict that they took the boat and went off. That was the biggest difference made to the movie,

Alloy Wheel Protectors Research Paper
Alloy Wheel Protector: The Best Way to Safeguard Your Rims
Wheels enhance the appearance of cars and increase their value. Despite the benefits, they are easily
damaged by routine driving. As wheels become damaged, their appearance diminishes and can lead to
subsequent damage. Additionally, repair for wheels and rims is expensive and time consuming. The
most leading edge and best solution for safeguarding wheels is an alloy wheel protector.
Protecting Your Investment
Wheels are not cheap even though they can be damaged in a blink of an eye. Minor damage can
quickly lead to erosion and alter the integrity of the wheel. As such, protecting wheels is essential.
Alloy wheel protectors help to cover up preexisting damage while also preventing more scratches and
dents from occurring. The protector thinly lines the rim, easily covering up ... Show more content on

Tires often have to be removed and most repairs require a technician. Wheel protectors are a nice
alternative to expensive repairs.
The protectors do not require a technician and can be applied to all four tires in less than ten minutes.
Additionally, they are much cheaper than getting the rim repaired. The protectors cover the damage
and make it seem as if it was never there, making wheels look new again without ever having to
consult a technician.
Wheels in and of themselves are expensive, keeping them fresh should not be. Wheel protectors are an
inexpensive way to maintain wheels.
Variety of Colors and Options
Wheel protectors come in many different colors, allowing them to be a nice enhancement to the wheel.
In addition to providing protecting, they can add additional style to the car. For example, for red cars,
a red alloy wheel protector may help to bring out the color. The color choices are endless, creating an
opportunity to further magnify the

Questions On Gross Receipts Tax
b. New Mexico
i. Gross Receipts Tax Generally
The state gross receipts tax is a tax on the privilege of engaging in business in New Mexico. Engaging
in business means carrying on or causing to be carried on any activity with the purpose of direct or
indirect benefit, with certain exceptions inapplicable to the Company s facts. The tax is assessed
against the gross proceeds of a business.
For purposes of the GRT, a presumption exists that all receipts of a person engaging in business are
subject to the GRT, unless the taxpayer can make an affirmative showing that the receipts are not
taxable. The taxpayer bears the burden of proving any exemption or deduction.
Gross receipts which are deductible are to be contrasted with gross ... Show more content on

The court stated that the [a]doption of the destination principle does not require us to construe the
gross receipts tax to include principles of transfer of title, transfer of possession, or risk of loss, which
are concepts that were not included in the language employed by our legislature. Therefore, we hold
that the destination principle applies to determine whether an interstate transaction is a taxable sale
under our gross receipts tax laws. While the court does not hold the principles of transfer of title,
transfer of possession, or risk of loss as dispositive, they are certainly important in analyzing the situs
of the sale. iii. Transactions in the Stream of Interstate Commerce
A deduction is allowed from the gross receipts tax for receipts from transactions in interstate
commerce if the imposition of the tax would be unlawful under the Constitution. Presumably, to the
extent that taxation of receipts derived from transactions in foreign commerce would violate the
Constitution, one may conclude that New Mexico could not impose its gross receipts tax.
The deduction for receipts derived from transactions in interstate commerce has been a part of the
gross receipts tax for many years. Contemporary commerce clause doctrine has held that there is no
bar to the imposition of a state s tax on income or receipts from a transaction merely because a
transaction is in interstate commerce, as long as certain requirements are met.

GDP is an important measure that indicates an economy s performance and affects employment,
inflation and foreign trade among others. Extensive research has been done on the factors that impact
real GDP growth, but many different models exist and there is no consensus that is universally
accepted. One important influence is government expenditure but economic theory does not clearly
state the relationship between government spending and GDP growth. Free market supporters believe
that government expenditure will lower real GDP per capita since they expect that government

Media Violence For The Canadian Radio Television And...
For a child, almost any type of conflict, such as a heated discussion on a radio talk show or between
two experts during a newscast, may seem as aggressive as two comic book characters throwing anvils.
As of yet, we do not have a clear explanation of what causes violence and aggression in our youth,
whether we analyze media content or explore the everyday aggressive behavior that may cause violent
behavior, Individual studies define these notions in a lot of different ways; Thus, the rules of the game
are constantly changing for those who try to analyze the situation as a whole. The difficulty in
quantifying aggression and violence in ways that make it almost impossible to answer the following
question: Does violence in the media cause people to commit acts of violence?
In 1994, Andrea Martinez of the University of Ottawa conducted a thorough review of the scientific
literature on media violence for the Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission
(CRTC). She concluded that: the lack of consensus is caused by three gray areas in this type of
research . These gray areas still apply today.
First, it is very difficult to define and measure violence in the media. Some experts who follow
violence in television programs, such as the late George Gerbner, defined violence as the act (or
threat) of hurting or killing another person, regardless of the method used or the surrounding context.
As such, Mr. Gerber included cartoon violence in his data set. But

Incontinence poses particular risk factors as both urine and faeces have detrimental effects on the skin.
This can lead to incontinence associated dermatitis (IAD) and pressure ulceration. (Flynn, 2011,
p.553). One of the basic skills that nurses have is to be able to provide appropriate skin care to
patients. This article discusses the some of the factors that can cause skin breakdown on patients.
There are four main factors that contribute to skin breakdown in reference to incontinence: moisture,

According to the article, Soap and water is not recommended for cleansing a patient with urinary or

study was conducted in 1918 residents (1/3 are incontinent) of a nursing home. This article shows that
there was a decrease in number of IAD and increase in healing when skin barrier cleanser and
moisturizing barrier were used. The study also shows that a decrease in amount of stage 1 and 2
pressure ulcers and healing time when body wash and skin protectant were used. This article also
discussed what an ideal skin cleanser and skin barrier should be. Some characteristics of a barrier
cream and cleanser should be pH balance, no rinse formula, hypoallergenic, moisturizing, breathable,
transparent, good adherence, applicable to intact and injured skin and easy to apply. It also mentioned
a dimethicone containing product as skin barrier that is more comfortable and contains high skin
hydration properties. Nine case studies were also done. Patients have different degrees of pressure

The Fascination Of War Literature
War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no
rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My
fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in
the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when
they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when
they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again.
One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because
as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of
telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a
story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the
trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their
trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because
of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a
solider himself. When one should read about war literature they should take into consideration of how
hard it might have been for the person to talk

The Fundamental Principle Of Inclusive Schooling
Meeting children s needs is a vital aspect of teaching whereby the needs of all children must be taken
into consideration. Teacher s professional practice is developed over time in various ways, for
example through experience and reflection (Tack et al, 2014). My professional practice was informed
by Meeting Children s Needs module as it educated me on how to assist children to become successful
learners. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child.

Each child is special and as a practitioner working with children I have to be aware of all issues
surrounding children s lives as outside factors affect learning. This essay will focus on the case studies
of Charlotte and Pinkesh to illustrate how these case studies educated me on how to deal with children
in similar situations and how my professional practice has been developed. These concepts of meeting
children s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to
understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I
profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn
enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low
self esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out.
This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention.
Charlotte just like Jake had low self esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they
can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self esteem and as a need by all to
feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good

Goldman Sachs And The Subprime Mortgage Case
Goldman Sachs and the Subprime Mortgage Securities Case Since 1869, the investment banking firm
Goldman Sachs has been working to satisfy their customer s financial needs. In 2008 the firm played a
large role in causing the devastating market crash that negatively affected millions of families around
the world. At the heart of the cause of the depression, Goldman Sachs took certain steps to make sure
they profited, but unfortunately it was at the expense of the market and the public. Just before the
market crash, the company blatantly acted in a manner inconsistent to their code of ethics as well as
the standards governing their industry. Charges were brought forth in 2010 against Goldman and one
of their employees, Fabrice Tourre. It is speculated that the reason only one employee was charged
was because he was easily convicted based on the amount of evidence in his emails. The company
itself was charged with securities fraud and Tourre was charged for making materially misleading
statements and omissions in connection with a synthetic collateralized debt obligation (CDO)
(Mogielnicki 80). At the epicenter of the whole debacle was the CDO named Abacus 2007 AC1. This
CDO was comprised of poorly rated (BBB) bonds that were selected by John Paulson, head of
Paulson Co. investment company which is based in New York, and ACA Management LLC. The BBB
rating means that as the home loans defaulted, these bonds would be among the first to feel the pain,

Methanol Exposure And Its Effect On The Fertility Of Biota...
Introduction A plant that produces alcohol as the main or by product sometimes experience failure or
did not properly manage their waste. The wastewater may be released to the water streams nearby and
affecting the environment and human. Some of alcoholic compound that are endangering the
environment is acetone, methanol and n propanol depending on the concentration. Acetone has a slight
toxicity when exposed to aquatic life and it caused membrane damage, a decrease in size and decrease
in germination of various agricultural and ornamental plants. Methanol may affect animals, birds and
fish, leading to their death. Exposure can also cause low growth rate in plants. Long term methanol
exposure can affect the fertility of biota and affect their appearance or behaviour ( National Pollutant
Inventory , 2016). Since alcohol is very volatile it is more practical to detect the compound using Gas
Chromatography (GC) instead of High Performance Liquid Chromatography. With hydrocarbon it is
suitable to use flame ionisation energy. In this experiment, GC that was used has the schematic
diagram as below: Figure 1: GC schematic diagram. Sheffield Hallam University (2016) Based on
Figure 1, the wastewater sample would be injected onto the injector port and with high temperature
about 200C the wastewater sample would be vaporized and forced through the capillary column that
has a temperature of 87C. Difference in polarity would determine the retention time of the compound
in the GC.

How The Consumerism Of Buying Changes One s Attitude...
In the United States, companies have created the average American to be a consumer. However, the
consumerism mentality that most Americans have is akin to Godzilla. Rampaging on deals and the
opportunity to take what they think is rightfully theirs. My aim for this project was to discuss how the
consumerism of buying changes one s attitude towards others, ourselves, and our behavior of
responsibility.
Behavior of Others
The Christmas season is upon us, and an event that is always relevant to discuss is Black Friday . This
year, I went pre Black Friday shopping on the night of Thanksgiving before 10 pm. I went to the Wal
Mart, near my home, and I was alarmed; so many people clustered into the same location of the store
hoping to get decent DVDs for $1. I have heard enough horror stories to know that the nickname
Black Friday doesn t always mean good standing for economic numbers. I then went to Target and
The Castle Rock Outlet Mall. When I was at Kohls, I had a strange feeling of consumption, as there
were humorous Christmas shirts for $4.99. Consumerism doesn t just affect how we treat other people;
it also affects how we feel. I felt that certain locations that differ from socioeconomic standing, effects
interaction. At stores where merchandise costs more, there tends to be more friendly engagement; it
felt significantly less hostile.

Zopiclone Is A Drug First Developed By Rhone Poulenc Rore
Zopiclone is a cyclopyrrolone drug first developed by Rhône Poulenc Rore (1, page 220) in the early
1970s (2). It is classified as a GABAA receptor agonist, and is a central nervous system depressant.
Zopiclone binds onto subunits on the GABAA receptor and modulates the opening of the chloride ion
channels in the neuron cell membrane (3, page 1). By increasing the conductance of chloride ions and
hyperpolarizing the neuron, the frequency of action potentials is reduced. This causes an inhibition of
brain activity, causing zopiclone to have hypnotic, sedative, muscle relaxant, anxiolytic, and
anticonvulsant effects (4).
Zopiclone acts much in the same way as benzodiazepines when used to treat insomnia, but was
believed to have less adverse effects, and less potential for developing tolerance and addiction. As a
result, it was first marketed as a better alternative to benzodiazepines. However, recent studies have
revealed that it is unclear whether zopiclone shows improvements over benzodiazepines when
assessed on therapeutic qualities and addiction potential (5, page 1). As a result, both zopiclone and
benzodiazepines are included in schedule IV of the United States Controlled Substances Act (6).
Zopiclone is known by several brand names, such as Imovane, Zimovane and Zimoclone (7). It is used
to treat insomnia in adults arising from increased sleep latency, frequent awakenings during in the
night, and premature awakening (3, page 1). Zopiclone alleviates the symptoms of

River Stinchar Research Paper
The River Stinchar and its tributaries, the ferly burn and the Dalquairne burn show patterns which
follow the Bradshaw Model to a large extent. The typical upper course of a river is narrow in width,
shallow in depth and slow in velocity. The load size is very large and therefore, less of it. The bank
gradients are steep and the discharge levels are low. All these features gradually change as the river
flows downstream. This is shown in figure 2 The location chosen for study is The River Stinchar and
its tributaries which are located in South Ayrshire and flow south west from the Galloway Forest Park
and were chosen due to a previous visit to the area. The location can be seen in figure 1. There is a
single lane farm track that is actually a National Cycle Route that runs level with the burns and also
with the Stinchar itself which allows for easy access. This location was chosen because the waters
manage to cover the upper, middle and lower course in a small distance making it more efficient to
study. This area is very isolated and the nearest settlement is the village of Crosshill which is 8 miles
away. There were very few signs of life with only three or four houses, all of them being hill sheep
farms which meant that we did not disturb anyone while doing our study. ... Show more content on

The Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center
Introduction
The Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center was built in 1998 in Noumea, New Caledonia in honor of the
New Caledonian Kanak independence leader, who was assassinated in 1989. The Kanak people are
native to the pacific region and account for 41% of the island s populations. (Piano Building
Workshop)
The Center was built as an undertaking by the French Government during the negotiations of
independence from France. The territory of New Caledonia wanted a Kanak Cultural Centre that
would be dedicated to the future development of the culture as inspired by Jean Marie Tjibaou.
(Architectura) In 1990 as part of France s president at the time, Francois Mitterrand s grand travaux or
grand works , an international invitation only tender was established for the project. The scope of the
brief was broad: the design must honor traditional Kanak culture; while at the same time provide a
focal point for the development of the society. (Fondazione). The aim was to ensure that despite
modern developments the Kanak culture would not lose touch with its historical roots.( Fondazione).
In 1991 an international competition was held and Italian architect, Renzo Piano won. A spectacular
location was found on the Tina peninsula against a background of mountains and promontories jutting
out into Magenta Bay, with the capital city of Noumea to the east and open sea to the west.

Potential For Victoria s Dairy Industry
Potential for Victoria s Dairy Industry to Move towards a Partial Mixed Ration Feeding System
Jasmine Hasluck
Feed is a major cost in the production of milk so it is important for Victorian dairy farmers to consider
which feeding strategy is going to be the most efficient in generating high profit and productivity. We
can broadly group dairy feeding strategies into 5 systems (Little, S 2010). System 1 is pasture based
with other forages and up to 1 tonne of grain or concentrates fed in bail. System 2 is pasture based
with other forages and more than 1 tonne of grain or concentrate fed in bail. System 3 is a partial
mixed ration (PMR) fed on a feed pad, grazed pasture and grain or concentrate may be fed in bail.
System 4 is a hybrid system, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It requires minimal capital and infrastructure by allowing cattle to graze pasture. However this system
has become less efficient as Victorian dairy farms have become more intense and climatic conditions
and milk prices are volatile. Since the price of milk became deregulated in 2000 there was a push for
Australian dairy farms to become more productive to remain competitive with international dairy
industries (Edwards, G 2003). This led to increases in stocking density and ultimately put pressure on
pasture supply. Rainfall is a limiting factor on pasture growth and year to year variability in rainfall
has had a huge negative effect on Victorian dairy farmers. In 2009/10 Victoria was faced with severe
droughts, which showed a fall in milk production of over 340 million litres (Dairy Australia, 2015).
During an extended period of low rainfall the quantity and quality of pasture is limited, which means
pasture based farms are forced to buy in supplementary feed and/or irrigation water to satisfy the feed
requirements of dairy cattle. Climatic variability poses a high risk in this system, which has led to
farmers to start considering other feeding options such as a partial mixed ration which might alleviate
this risk. Figure 1. Dairy Feeding Systems (Little, S 2010)
Partial mixed ration systems combine the cost effectiveness of pasture based feeding with a
formulated diet which gives the potential to improve productivity and decrease the risk associated
with climatic

How To Dissected Frogs
I ve been tasked to write about a enjoyable educational activity I did at school. So today I ve chosen to
tell you guys about the time we dissected frogs in 7th grade. It was the funniest and the most smelliest
activity I have ever done and I ll tell you why. There are a lot of reasons it was the funniest and the
most smelliest activity. The first and obvious reason to why it smelled so bad was because of the frogs.
The frogs had been in a bucket that was filed with a stinky preservation liquid all school year so when
they opened the buckets it reeked. The smell of the open buckets quickly spread in the air and made
everybody cover their noses with their shirts. It was so bad that the smell even began to spread

Education From Rabelais Perspective
Education from Rabelais Perspective
The Renaissance altered centuries of thought in Europe. One figured who contributed to
revolutionizing though was the author Francois Rabelais who wrote comedic critiques of his world. In
his stories of Gargantua and Pantagruel the author critiques many aspects of sixteenth century life
especially the education system. He examines previous educational attitudes, as well as those during
his time. As a humanist thinker, Rabelais values education and reform. The author was extremely
familiar with the university system in France during the Renaissance because he himself studied in
these places. Francois Rabelais emphasizes that education has progressed since the Middle Ages, but
he also affirms problems still persist during the Renaissance period.
Rabelais critiques medieval education to demonstrate the flawed system prior to the Renaissance.
Rabelais finds issue with traditional scholastic debates pro et contra due to their loose connection to
seeking truth (M.A. Screech 30). He communicates his personal distress through Pantagruel s rants
about prior scholars glossing worthwhile texts (Rabelais 33). Glossing, or commentary by scholars,
was a popular scholastic pursuit before the Renaissance. Rabelais found it to detract from the texts
overall value. The author also uses Gargantua, Pantagruel s father, who lived during the prior period to
emphasize the many additional specific failures of medieval education. He writes Pantagruel a

The South China Se The Sea Lies A String Of 14 Islands And...
Somewhere off the coast of Southeast Asia in the South China sea lies a string of 14 islands and reefs.
These reefs and islands are the center of an international dispute of sorts. Six surrounding countries
lay claim to at least a few of the islands, but China claims them all. Including the sea surrounding
them. All the Spratly Islands are claimed by China, Taiwan and Vietnam, while parts of them are
claimed by Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines. But according to China, their territorial rights to the
islands and sea date back over 2,000 years from ancestors who discovered, named and explored the
South China sea (The World Factbook: Spratly Islands) (Livingstone).
Largely unexplored, the islands include approximately 100 inlets, coral reefs and sea mounts for a
total of less than 5 km of land scattered over 158,000 square miles and are located in the midst of
international shipping lanes. (The World Factbook: Spratly Islands)
The natural resources seem to be part of the struggle for control of the Spratlys. There are differing
opinions on the amount of oil and natural gas the islands hold. China s claim is the islands and the
surrounding sea are home to 125 billion gallons of oil and 500 trillion cubic feet of natural gas but the
United States disagrees. The U.S. Geological Survey disputes the numbers, instead estimating that the
region holds 5 to 22 billion barrels of oil and 70 to 290 trillion cubic feet of gas a sizable difference
(DeLuca). However, based on

Sociological Theories On Crime
Sociological theories on crime, whether they are macro or micro, look at external factors in
determining causative reasons for criminal conduct (Bohm Vogel, 2011). This process is very different
from biological and psychological crime theories, which focus on internal characteristics of a person
(Bohm Vogel, 2011). Macrosociological theory accounts for the overall big picture of a society taking
into account the physical structure of an area and how it is laid out. This information is used to
theorize if they have an influence on criminal activity for that particular location or neighborhood
(Bohm Vogel, 2011). Microsociological theories focus in on a more concentrated view of individual s
external interactions with each other or specific programs such as church or school (Bohm Vogel,
2011). These theories try to explain if these interactions foster a criminal environment or cause the
opposite (Bohm Vogel, 2011).
Macrosociological theory accounts for a large area of societal processes (Boundless, n.d.). Macro
theory has been practiced since the original studies of Emile Durkheim (Boundless, n.d.). It has also
been the most popular choice in sociology crime studies (Boundless, n.d.). Part of the reason for this is
because historical evidence shows that early studies of Macro theories, which investigate the entire
society makeup, focused on the following three topics. First, sociologists would determine what kept
the bonds of a society united (Boundless,

that, Historically black people have played diabetes off and commonly referred to this deadly disease
by saying Mama has a sugar problem. (4) In order for the expansion of diabetes to lessen in the black
community, people have to be comfortable enough to name the disease and realize that if mama has a

take into account when talking about diabetes. For one, a high amount of fat intake can be a huge risk

Childrens Literature and the Holocaust Essay
Children s Literature and the Holocaust
During the 1940 s Jewish Europeans experienced an unthinkable and atrocious collective trauma. In
her work Survivor Parents and Their Children taken from the anthology Generations of the Holocaust,
Judith S. Kestenberg has argued that regardless of location, the effects of the Holocaust are felt on
survivors parenting. The children of survivors receive a secondary traumatic impact by being forced to
deal with the impact the Holocaust had directly on their parents. The novel Briar Rose by Jane Yolen
is an example of a Holocaust survivor sharing her experiences through a fictionalized tale made for

People can either have the ability to say it could have been me, it was me, also and at the same time
that it was not me or the line between the witness and the listener can be blurred and the historical
trauma interiorized. Hirsch identifies a negative identification with trauma as idiopathic or self
sameness (408). An over identification with trauma causes the witness to act out and become a victim.
As Hirsch writes, Acting out is based on tragic identification and the continuation of one s self as a
surrogate victim. It is based on over identification and repetition. Keeping the wounds open, it results
in retraumatization (414).
It is because of these reasons that painful histories must be carefully passed on with the witness s
welfare in mind. Anyone who hears a first hand account about the Holocaust may experience trauma.
According to Judith S. Kestenberg, author of Survivor Parents and Their Children, first hand
witnessing of the Holocaust has long term traumatic effects that are passed down through generation.
As shown through out the studies and cases discussed in the anthology Generations of The Holocaust,
the psychological task children of survivors have to face is dealing with the trauma handed down from

A Possible Examination Done By Rhetoric Experts Essay
A Possible Examination Done By Rhetoric Experts On the morning of September 11, 2001, al Qaeda
terrorists carried out a set of coordinated suicide attacks with four hijacked passenger planes and killed
around 3,000 people on American soil. The first two planes hit the World Trade center and killed
everyone on board and hundreds inside the buildings. Following this attack, the nation was informed
by President Bush that these attacks were, apparent terrorist attacks on our country
(http://www.history.com/topics/9 11 timeline). The third hijacked plane soon crashed into the
Pentagon in Washington, D.C., killing multiple people aboard and 125 military and civilian personnel
inside the building. The fourth plane was deliberately crashed into a field in Somerset County,
Pennsylvania, taking the lives of all the people and the crew aboard after a few passengers tried to take
the plane back from the hijackers. With thousands of lives taken and the American people frightened
and needing answers, they expected someone to deliver a speech addressed to the nation to provide
some form of comfort and guidance. George W. Bush, as president, was the only logical rhetor to fill
that need, and nine days later on September 20, 2011; George W. Bush addressed the Nation in a Joint

Meridian, by Alice Walker
The women of the late sixties, although some are older than others, in Alice Walker s fiction that
exhibit the qualities of the developing, emergent model are greatly influenced through the era of the
Civil Rights Movement. Motherhood is a major theme in modern women s literature, which examines
as a sacred, powerful, and spiritual component of the woman s life. Alice Walker does not choose
Southern black women to be her major protagonists only because she is one, but because she had
discovered in the tradition and history they collectively experience an understanding of oppression
that has been drawn from them a willingness to reject the principle and to hold what is difficult.

Meridian s quest for wholeness and her involvement in the Civil Rights Movement is initiated by her
feelings of failure in living up to the standards of black motherhood. Meridian gives up her son
because she believes she will destroy his growth with guilt and she has her tubes tied after a painful
abortion (pg. 133). Walker investigated the idea of an African American structure of motherhood, as
she develops the protagonist, Meridian, who at first believes she cannot properly fulfill the
responsibility.
The author entered the conflict about the value of motherhood in which American feminists were then,
as they are now, engaged. Motherhood is also seen as a moral transformation, as a woman comes to
terms with being different in that she ceases to be an independent individual because she is one way or
the other attached to another her baby (FPS). Barbara Christian writes that Walker combines the forces
of traditional and feminist perspectives on motherhood, attempting a compromise that would allow the
protagonist to survive:
As many radical feminists blamed motherhood for the waste in women s lives and saw it as a dead end
for a woman, Walker insisted on a deeper analysis: She did not present motherhood itself as
restrictive. It is so because of the little value society places on children, especially black children, on
mothers, especially black mothers, on life itself. In the novel, Walker acknowledged that a mother in
this society is often buried

Cystic Fibrosis Analysis
To understand the effects that Cystic Fibrosis has, it is important to discuss CFTR synthesis and
trafficking. Mutations in the CFTR results in protein misfolding, causing a defect in cellular
processing and trafficking that targets the protein for degradation and reduces the quantity of CFTR at
the cell surface [56]. In order for the CFTR to function correctly, then it must be synthesized, folded,
and transported to the apical membrane of the cell without problem. The CFTR passes through quality
control systems to get rid of misfolded proteins that would not function properly or that could become
damaged [16]. It is apparent that only 33% of CFTR folds correctly and is allowed to leave the
endoplasmic reticulum [8]. The nucleus is the site ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One system detects defects in the cytosolic parts of the CFTR while the other detects defects within
the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. It is apparent that ubiquitylating proteins work with specific
factors in order to detect misfolding. For example, Hsp70 detects mutations in the cytosolic regions of
the CFTR. It is suspected that Hsp70 keeps the CFTR soluble until the E3 ligase CHIP binds with it.
The complex that forms between these two redirects the CFTR to the degradation pathway. Derlin 1 is
involved with detecting defects in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and is involved in the retro
translocation of CFTR from the endoplasmic reticulum so that it can be send to the proteasome for
degradation [20]. If the CFTR protein is folded correctly within the endoplasmic reticulum, then it is
sent to the Golgi apparatus. The coat protein complex II (COPII), which is found within the ER
membrane, helps to maintain the correct CFTR structure and location, conformation, and protein
protein interactions as this occurs. Final processing for the CFTR is carried out within the Golgi, as
the CFTR replaces a mannose enriched side chain with a mature complex oligosaccharide side chain.
After this is completed, the CFTR is moved to the apical membrane where it has a half life of 12 to 24
hours. If a CFTR is functioning poorly within the membrane, then it can be recognized by Hsc70 and
then

  • 2. Research Paper On Rhenium Rhenium, pronounced REE nee em, was the last naturally occurring element to be discovered. It was found by the German chemists Ida Tacke Noddack, Walter Noddack and Otto Carl Berg in the year of 1925 (Rhenium Element Information). They named the element after the Rhine River river in Germany since that was the country of which they were from. Rhenium does not have any other aliases which is why its element symbol of Re is not very different from its actual name. It holds the atomic number of 75 and is located in group seven and period six on the periodic table (Gagnon). With it being a special element and a metal, rhenium is a member of the transition metal group along with other elements such as tungsten and platinum. The transition metals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is one of the rarest elements on the Earth with an abundance of something like one part per million (Rhenium Element Information). Rhenium is can be found in ores like copper and molybdenum, and often in conjunction with platinum. It is used widely as a catalyst in the production of lead free, high octane gasoline, as an electrical contact material and quite frequently in flash photography (Rhenium). While it plays a part in all of these things, none of them rely solely on pure rhenium. It tends to be compounded with other substances. To gather rhenium, scientists use the method of copper refining to extract it from the copper ore. With rhenium being an extremely rare element, it is in high demand for its pure form. It costs $1,600 to buy 100 grams of the element, or $250 for one troy ounce (#75 Rhenium Re). While one may be thinking, Who would spend that much on an element and what would they do with it? The truth is that since it is a rare and disappearing substance, many people actually purchase it as an investment. Purchasing it is open to the public and it sells fast. Rhenium is a benefit to our society because it is a strong element that is highly resistant to heat and water. It is also used for electrical contact and is a huge part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) considering it is needed for fuel and turbines as well (Rhenium Element Information). ... • 4. The Meaning Of Coming Of Age Essay The statement coming of age means to me that you are given more responsibility to do different things, you are expected to be more mature and more trust is handed to you. These are just a few of the things that are expected of you when you are coming of age because you are getting closer to being a responsible, mature and trustworthy adult. The reason that I think you are given more responsibility when you are coming of age is because you are getting older and about ready to move out of the house, and when you do there won t be any excuses for not doing things that you are supposed to do because it s on you for not doing what you are supposed to do. With that, you are given more and more responsibility until you come of age to get you ready for the real world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being mature is one of the key things to be in life. In addition to the following expectations you are expected to be when coming of age, being trustworthy is another key element to life for if you aren t trustworthy it s very likely that you won t get hire or get fired from the job because how can someone give you a task if they don t trust that you ll do it. A constitution is a set of rules that seek to establish the duties, powers and functions of the various institutions of government. They also regulate the relationship between and among the institutions and define the relationship between the state and the individual. There are many different types of constitutions. The constitution that is in place in the UK is an uncodified one. In other words, it is not written on a single bill and consists of various written and unwritten sources. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would strengthen citizenship as it creates a clearer sense of political identity which may be particularly important in an increasingly multicultural society. One of the strongest arguments in favour of a codified constitution is that a codified constitution would protect rights. Individual liberty would be more securely protected by a codified constitution because it would define the relationship between the state and the citizens. As a result of this rights would be more clearly defined and they would be easier to enforce than with the current uncodified constitution that exists in the UK. An uncodified constitution can also lead to elective dictatorship which further restricts rights. One way these rights could be defined is through a bill or rights in the codified constitution. A bill of rights is a document that specifies the rights and freedoms of the individual, and so defines the legal extent of civil liberty. In Britain there is no bill of rights on terrorism legislation which exposes the weak protection of rights that an uncodified constitution offers. On the other hand there are many arguments against the idea of a codified constitution. One argument is that codified constitutions are considered rigid. Higher law is more difficult to change than statute law. It is easier to and quicker to introduce an Act of Parliament than to amend a constitution. Uncodified constitutions are flexible as they are not entrenched like codified constitutions. Due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The plaque can rupture and form a blood clot on its surface this blood clot can block the blood flow and the section fed by the artery will die. This can lead to unstable angina which is severe and can last as long as 30 minutes. The dead tissue is replaced with scar tissue and can cause unnoticeable damage. The scar tissue formed does not contract and the heart s pumping ability is lessened. The pumping ability is decreased because of where the scar tissue is and the size of it. The tax is assessed against the gross proceeds of a business. For a child, almost any type of conflict, such as a heated discussion on a radio talk show or between two experts during a newscast, may seem as aggressive as two comic book characters throwing anvils. As of yet, we do not have a clear explanation of what causes violence and aggression in our youth, whether we analyze media content or explore the everyday aggressive behavior that may cause violent behavior, Individual studies define these notions in a lot of different ways; Thus, the rules of the game are constantly changing for those who try to analyze the situation as a whole. The difficulty in quantifying aggression and violence in ways that make it almost impossible to answer the following question: Does violence in the media cause people to commit acts of violence? In 1994, Andrea Martinez of the University of Ottawa conducted a thorough review of the scientific literature on media violence for the Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). She concluded that: the lack of consensus is caused by three gray areas in this type of research . These gray areas still apply today. First, it is very difficult to define and measure violence in the media. • 14. The Fascination Of War Literature War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again. One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a solider himself. The wastewater may be released to the water streams nearby and affecting the environment and human. Some of alcoholic compound that are endangering the environment is acetone, methanol and n propanol depending on the concentration. Acetone has a slight toxicity when exposed to aquatic life and it caused membrane damage, a decrease in size and decrease in germination of various agricultural and ornamental plants. Methanol may affect animals, birds and fish, leading to their death. Exposure can also cause low growth rate in plants. Long term methanol exposure can affect the fertility of biota and affect their appearance or behaviour ( National Pollutant Inventory , 2016). • 25. How The Consumerism Of Buying Changes One s Attitude... In the United States, companies have created the average American to be a consumer. However, the consumerism mentality that most Americans have is akin to Godzilla. Rampaging on deals and the opportunity to take what they think is rightfully theirs. My aim for this project was to discuss how the consumerism of buying changes one s attitude towards others, ourselves, and our behavior of responsibility. Behavior of Others The Christmas season is upon us, and an event that is always relevant to discuss is Black Friday . This year, I went pre Black Friday shopping on the night of Thanksgiving before 10 pm. I went to the Wal Mart, near my home, and I was alarmed; so many people clustered into the same location of the store hoping to get decent DVDs for $1. I have heard enough horror stories to know that the nickname Black Friday doesn t always mean good standing for economic numbers. I then went to Target and The Castle Rock Outlet Mall. When I was at Kohls, I had a strange feeling of consumption, as there were humorous Christmas shirts for $4.99. Consumerism doesn t just affect how we treat other people; it also affects how we feel. I felt that certain locations that differ from socioeconomic standing, effects interaction. At stores where merchandise costs more, there tends to be more friendly engagement; it felt significantly less hostile. The article titled Consumer Ethics: An Assessment of Individual Behavior in the Market Place, analyzes how buyers and sellers interact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Zopiclone Is A Drug First Developed By Rhone Poulenc Rore Zopiclone is a cyclopyrrolone drug first developed by Rhône Poulenc Rore (1, page 220) in the early 1970s (2). It is classified as a GABAA receptor agonist, and is a central nervous system depressant. Zopiclone binds onto subunits on the GABAA receptor and modulates the opening of the chloride ion channels in the neuron cell membrane (3, page 1). By increasing the conductance of chloride ions and hyperpolarizing the neuron, the frequency of action potentials is reduced. This causes an inhibition of brain activity, causing zopiclone to have hypnotic, sedative, muscle relaxant, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant effects (4). Zopiclone acts much in the same way as benzodiazepines when used to treat insomnia, but was believed to have less adverse effects, and less potential for developing tolerance and addiction. As a result, it was first marketed as a better alternative to benzodiazepines. However, recent studies have revealed that it is unclear whether zopiclone shows improvements over benzodiazepines when assessed on therapeutic qualities and addiction potential (5, page 1). As a result, both zopiclone and benzodiazepines are included in schedule IV of the United States Controlled Substances Act (6). Zopiclone is known by several brand names, such as Imovane, Zimovane and Zimoclone (7). It is used to treat insomnia in adults arising from increased sleep latency, frequent awakenings during in the night, and premature awakening (3, page 1). Zopiclone alleviates the symptoms of ... The typical upper course of a river is narrow in width, shallow in depth and slow in velocity. The load size is very large and therefore, less of it. The bank gradients are steep and the discharge levels are low. All these features gradually change as the river flows downstream. This is shown in figure 2 The location chosen for study is The River Stinchar and its tributaries which are located in South Ayrshire and flow south west from the Galloway Forest Park and were chosen due to a previous visit to the area. The location can be seen in figure 1. There is a single lane farm track that is actually a National Cycle Route that runs level with the burns and also with the Stinchar itself which allows for easy access. This location was chosen because the waters manage to cover the upper, middle and lower course in a small distance making it more efficient to study. This area is very isolated and the nearest settlement is the village of Crosshill which is 8 miles away. There were very few signs of life with only three or four houses, all of them being hill sheep farms which meant that we did not disturb anyone while doing our study. ... The Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center Introduction The Jean Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center was built in 1998 in Noumea, New Caledonia in honor of the New Caledonian Kanak independence leader, who was assassinated in 1989. The Kanak people are native to the pacific region and account for 41% of the island s populations. (Piano Building Workshop) The Center was built as an undertaking by the French Government during the negotiations of independence from France. The territory of New Caledonia wanted a Kanak Cultural Centre that would be dedicated to the future development of the culture as inspired by Jean Marie Tjibaou. (Architectura) In 1990 as part of France s president at the time, Francois Mitterrand s grand travaux or grand works , an international invitation only tender was established for the project. The scope of the brief was broad: the design must honor traditional Kanak culture; while at the same time provide a focal point for the development of the society. (Fondazione). The aim was to ensure that despite modern developments the Kanak culture would not lose touch with its historical roots.( Fondazione). In 1991 an international competition was held and Italian architect, Renzo Piano won. A spectacular location was found on the Tina peninsula against a background of mountains and promontories jutting out into Magenta Bay, with the capital city of Noumea to the east and open sea to the west. • 29. Potential For Victoria s Dairy Industry Potential for Victoria s Dairy Industry to Move towards a Partial Mixed Ration Feeding System Jasmine Hasluck Feed is a major cost in the production of milk so it is important for Victorian dairy farmers to consider which feeding strategy is going to be the most efficient in generating high profit and productivity. We can broadly group dairy feeding strategies into 5 systems (Little, S 2010). System 1 is pasture based with other forages and up to 1 tonne of grain or concentrates fed in bail. System 2 is pasture based with other forages and more than 1 tonne of grain or concentrate fed in bail. System 3 is a partial mixed ration (PMR) fed on a feed pad, grazed pasture and grain or concentrate may be fed in bail. System 4 is a hybrid system, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It requires minimal capital and infrastructure by allowing cattle to graze pasture. However this system has become less efficient as Victorian dairy farms have become more intense and climatic conditions and milk prices are volatile. Since the price of milk became deregulated in 2000 there was a push for Australian dairy farms to become more productive to remain competitive with international dairy industries (Edwards, G 2003). This led to increases in stocking density and ultimately put pressure on pasture supply. Rainfall is a limiting factor on pasture growth and year to year variability in rainfall has had a huge negative effect on Victorian dairy farmers. In 2009/10 Victoria was faced with severe droughts, which showed a fall in milk production of over 340 million litres (Dairy Australia, 2015). During an extended period of low rainfall the quantity and quality of pasture is limited, which means pasture based farms are forced to buy in supplementary feed and/or irrigation water to satisfy the feed requirements of dairy cattle. Climatic variability poses a high risk in this system, which has led to farmers to start considering other feeding options such as a partial mixed ration which might alleviate this risk. Figure 1. Dairy Feeding Systems (Little, S 2010) Partial mixed ration systems combine the cost effectiveness of pasture based feeding with a formulated diet which gives the potential to improve productivity and decrease the risk associated with climatic ... • 31. Education From Rabelais Perspective Education from Rabelais Perspective The Renaissance altered centuries of thought in Europe. One figured who contributed to revolutionizing though was the author Francois Rabelais who wrote comedic critiques of his world. In his stories of Gargantua and Pantagruel the author critiques many aspects of sixteenth century life especially the education system. He examines previous educational attitudes, as well as those during his time. As a humanist thinker, Rabelais values education and reform. The author was extremely familiar with the university system in France during the Renaissance because he himself studied in these places. Francois Rabelais emphasizes that education has progressed since the Middle Ages, but he also affirms problems still persist during the Renaissance period. Rabelais critiques medieval education to demonstrate the flawed system prior to the Renaissance. Rabelais finds issue with traditional scholastic debates pro et contra due to their loose connection to seeking truth (M.A. Screech 30). He communicates his personal distress through Pantagruel s rants about prior scholars glossing worthwhile texts (Rabelais 33). Glossing, or commentary by scholars, was a popular scholastic pursuit before the Renaissance. Rabelais found it to detract from the texts overall value. The author also uses Gargantua, Pantagruel s father, who lived during the prior period to emphasize the many additional specific failures of medieval education. He writes Pantagruel a ... These reefs and islands are the center of an international dispute of sorts. Six surrounding countries lay claim to at least a few of the islands, but China claims them all. Including the sea surrounding them. All the Spratly Islands are claimed by China, Taiwan and Vietnam, while parts of them are claimed by Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines. But according to China, their territorial rights to the islands and sea date back over 2,000 years from ancestors who discovered, named and explored the South China sea (The World Factbook: Spratly Islands) (Livingstone). Largely unexplored, the islands include approximately 100 inlets, coral reefs and sea mounts for a total of less than 5 km of land scattered over 158,000 square miles and are located in the midst of international shipping lanes. (The World Factbook: Spratly Islands) The natural resources seem to be part of the struggle for control of the Spratlys. There are differing opinions on the amount of oil and natural gas the islands hold. China s claim is the islands and the surrounding sea are home to 125 billion gallons of oil and 500 trillion cubic feet of natural gas but the United States disagrees. • 33. Sociological Theories On Crime Sociological theories on crime, whether they are macro or micro, look at external factors in determining causative reasons for criminal conduct (Bohm Vogel, 2011). This process is very different from biological and psychological crime theories, which focus on internal characteristics of a person (Bohm Vogel, 2011). Macrosociological theory accounts for the overall big picture of a society taking into account the physical structure of an area and how it is laid out. This information is used to theorize if they have an influence on criminal activity for that particular location or neighborhood (Bohm Vogel, 2011). Microsociological theories focus in on a more concentrated view of individual s external interactions with each other or specific programs such as church or school (Bohm Vogel, 2011). These theories try to explain if these interactions foster a criminal environment or cause the opposite (Bohm Vogel, 2011). Macrosociological theory accounts for a large area of societal processes (Boundless, n.d.). Macro theory has been practiced since the original studies of Emile Durkheim (Boundless, n.d.). It has also been the most popular choice in sociology crime studies (Boundless, n.d.). Part of the reason for this is because historical evidence shows that early studies of Macro theories, which investigate the entire society makeup, focused on the following three topics. First, sociologists would determine what kept the bonds of a society united (Boundless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Hirsch writes, Acting out is based on tragic identification and the continuation of one s self as a surrogate victim. It is based on over identification and repetition. Keeping the wounds open, it results in retraumatization (414). It is because of these reasons that painful histories must be carefully passed on with the witness s welfare in mind. The first two planes hit the World Trade center and killed everyone on board and hundreds inside the buildings. Following this attack, the nation was informed by President Bush that these attacks were, apparent terrorist attacks on our country (http://www.history.com/topics/9 11 timeline). Motherhood is a major theme in modern women s literature, which examines as a sacred, powerful, and spiritual component of the woman s life. Alice Walker does not choose Southern black women to be her major protagonists only because she is one, but because she had discovered in the tradition and history they collectively experience an understanding of oppression that has been drawn from them a willingness to reject the principle and to hold what is difficult. Walker s most developed character, Meridian, is a person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meridian s quest for wholeness and her involvement in the Civil Rights Movement is initiated by her feelings of failure in living up to the standards of black motherhood. Meridian gives up her son because she believes she will destroy his growth with guilt and she has her tubes tied after a painful abortion (pg. 133). Walker investigated the idea of an African American structure of motherhood, as she develops the protagonist, Meridian, who at first believes she cannot properly fulfill the responsibility. The author entered the conflict about the value of motherhood in which American feminists were then, as they are now, engaged. Motherhood is also seen as a moral transformation, as a woman comes to terms with being different in that she ceases to be an independent individual because she is one way or the other attached to another her baby (FPS). Barbara Christian writes that Walker combines the forces of traditional and feminist perspectives on motherhood, attempting a compromise that would allow the protagonist to survive: As many radical feminists blamed motherhood for the waste in women s lives and saw it as a dead end for a woman, Walker insisted on a deeper analysis: She did not present motherhood itself as restrictive. It is so because of the little value society places on children, especially black children, on mothers, especially black mothers, on life itself. • 42. Cystic Fibrosis Analysis To understand the effects that Cystic Fibrosis has, it is important to discuss CFTR synthesis and trafficking. Mutations in the CFTR results in protein misfolding, causing a defect in cellular processing and trafficking that targets the protein for degradation and reduces the quantity of CFTR at the cell surface [56]. In order for the CFTR to function correctly, then it must be synthesized, folded, and transported to the apical membrane of the cell without problem. The CFTR passes through quality control systems to get rid of misfolded proteins that would not function properly or that could become damaged [16]. It is apparent that only 33% of CFTR folds correctly and is allowed to leave the endoplasmic reticulum [8]. The nucleus is the site ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One system detects defects in the cytosolic parts of the CFTR while the other detects defects within the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. It is apparent that ubiquitylating proteins work with specific factors in order to detect misfolding. For example, Hsp70 detects mutations in the cytosolic regions of the CFTR. It is suspected that Hsp70 keeps the CFTR soluble until the E3 ligase CHIP binds with it. The complex that forms between these two redirects the CFTR to the degradation pathway. Derlin 1 is involved with detecting defects in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and is involved in the retro translocation of CFTR from the endoplasmic reticulum so that it can be send to the proteasome for degradation [20]. If the CFTR protein is folded correctly within the endoplasmic reticulum, then it is sent to the Golgi apparatus. The coat protein complex II (COPII), which is found within the ER membrane, helps to maintain the correct CFTR structure and location, conformation, and protein protein interactions as this occurs. Final processing for the CFTR is carried out within the Golgi, as the CFTR replaces a mannose enriched side chain with a mature complex oligosaccharide side chain. After this is completed, the CFTR is moved to the apical membrane where it has a half life of 12 to 24 hours. If a CFTR is functioning poorly within the membrane, then it can be recognized by Hsc70 and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
