This document discusses the development of next generation trailer electrical architectures and tractor-trailer interfaces. It notes that current architectures are inadequate and companies are offering solutions. It outlines the objectives to create backward-compatible, future-looking definitions for tractor-trailer connections by March 2022 to improve safety, enable autonomous operation, and enhance diagnostics. Solution providers will present on areas like brakes, lighting, telematics, wheels and tires. Considerations include connectors, cables, secure wireless and wired technologies. A memorandum of understanding is proposed between stakeholders to develop non-proprietary, globally compatible standards.
