TrianglProductions is creating a documentary targeting students aged 11-20. The documentary will use a fly-on-the-wall style and focus on the experiences of sixth form (years 12-13) students to appeal to the target audience. It will follow one stressed 17-year-old student preparing for exams and show her teachers and peers. The documentary aims to look more closely at sixth form life than similar shows that only cover years 7-11.
3. Target Audience
Our audience survey shows
that a majority of our target
audience are aged between
16-20 - 50% and 31% of or
target audience are aged 11-
15
Chart: Age of our target audience
We will appeal to our target audience by focusing more on
the students than the teachers, this will allow for more
relatable situations for our audience as most of them are
still of school age or would’ve just left school.
4. Target Audience
Using the results from our target
audience research we have discovered
in order to appeal to them based on
what they have said. we should use a
voiceover as 71% of our respondents
would prefer this,we will also use a lot
of fly on the wall style footage. We will
focus more on sixth form students
however we will show some footage of
students in years 9-11 as this is what our
target audience have said that they
want.

8. Visual Style
Mise-en-scene
As we want to focus more
on the sixth form students
we will be using the
common room and
classrooms more than
places like the playground.
The students will be smartly
dressed to show that they
are in sixth form.
9. Visual Style
We plan to use a fly on the wall
style for the majority of the
documentary meaning that
there will be a lot of long shots,
but we will also experiment
with mid shots for the
interviews.
Camera
10. Visual Style
we will mainly use continuity
editing as for a documentary it
is a convention to create a
construction of reality. We will
also use cross cuts to give
different opinions to the
audience. another technique
that we plan to use is a
montage at the beginning of
the episode to show what is
coming up in the episode.

life in the lower school (years 7-11), however

Editor's Notes
It will be about a sixth form student who is struggling to reach her full potential at school she is being influenced by her friends and is unsure whether sixth form is for her. In this episode you will see interviews with her teachers talking about what they think of her potential and effort and aslo what she thinks, we will see her and other students on a ‘regular school day.
We are going to mix these two genres together for our documentary, so we will not be able to use all conventions but we will use some of them.
As 53% of our target audience said that they enjoyed the educating series, we have decided to draw inspiration from this and see what it is about this series that appeals to its target audience.
Other similar shows of this style only look into life in the lower school (years 7-11), however we intend intend to look more closely into the school experience for sixth form students. This makes our documentary unique as it gives the school experience from another perspective, and how teens just entering adulthood look at the world.
