The Great Barrier Reef Has Lived Off Of The Southern Coast...
For over 25 million years, the Great Barrier Reef has lived off of the northeastern coast of Australia.
The first human civilizations started around 5,000 years ago and industrialization of humans about 200
years ago (History of Humans, 2016). The human race s timeline is just a small fraction in comparison
to the reefs, but somehow humanity has managed completely derail mother nature in an
incomprehensible amount of ways. Healthwise, the Great Barrier Reef is in the worst shape of its life
and which just so happens to match ever so nicely with the rapid pandemic of global warming that has
increased over the past couple of decades. The rise in air temperature is gradually increasing the ocean
s temperature as well which is causing colossal damage to Great Barrier Reef and reefs across the
globe. If we do not take action immediately in reducing our planet s rising temperature and ever
increasing CO2, it will soon be too late to save this natural wonder as well as the countless organism
that call it home.
Besides being a spectacle to look at, coral reefs are also one of the most diverse ecosystems on the
planet. In addition to ⅓ of all fish (not just species) spend at least a portion of their lives on a reef,
they are also home to mollusks, sponges, turtles, and a plethora of different species of coral (Basic
Facts, 2014). Coral reefs also can protect coastlines from wave erosion and also help support
fisherman that depend on the reef as their livelihood. Contrary to the

East Timor Assignment
Term 4 Economics Essay Jack Stickley East Timor is a country surrounded by a picturesque and
untouched landscape that has inhabited people for centuries. In today s society however, East Timor
has been economically left behind in comparison to other western world super powers. As the country
attempts to rebuild its national identity following their separation from the Indonesia regime, certain
obstacles threaten to stop their progress to become a developed nation. Least Developed Countries
(LDC s) can be commonly categorized by their lack of infrastructure and residential development, and
visibly through the contrast to well developed countries of the Western world. The United Nations use
the following criteria to identify LDC s. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the world gripped by oil shortage The Timor Sea Treaty, which is split 90% to 10% in favour of
Timor, will be useful in the development of the country. Accessing income is currently difficult for
workers and therefore they don t have the capacity to invest or save what they do earn, but income can
be earned and received through providing services and withholding this income from third parties that
may interfere. East Timor is in desperate need of foreign dollars. A dependence on aid in the short
term with an increased reliance on services in the medium to long term rather than the export of
agricultural and manufactured commodities may be an optimum strategy for East Timor.
Entrepreneurial skills need to be developed through a strong education system. Continued external
support is required as the building blocks for East Timor to develop economically. The Government
also has a significant role to play as it is crucial that the country adopts Macroeconomic policies which
also generate productive work and income opportunities to develop sustainable livelihoods. It is
important that the poor are assisted in their efforts to improve their farming and commodity
production. East Timor is currently a country with economic, social and political difficulties and is a
country that is fighting back following a difficult phase in the countries political life. However, if
assistance is gained from other supporting countries, service and non production activities

Western Imperialism
1. (a) The post WWII is marked as the rise of human rights. The universal human rights has become
apparent in the international system, and has become the basis of drafting the UDHR. The universal
human rights states all humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. This phrase has
guaranteed and protected the human rights of all human beings without any distinction. However, the
universal notion of human rights has initiated controversy among many critiques. Some have argued
that the Declaration was another way of Western imperialism because the idea has adopted western
philosophical and political principles. This has instigated the rise of cultural relativism, which claimed
that every culture has specific beliefs and perspectives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(a) The universalists conceptualize rights as a special narrow category of rights based on a universal
notion of the inherent dignity of human beings and human rights claims are morally justified demands
to rectify injustice (Lecture 2). Human rights ensure that all human beings have these inherent dignity
and rights. The universalism puts more emphasis on the individual rights to impede states from
violation of these rights, winning over state sovereignty. The tension of this approach is the rise of
cultural legitimacy, claiming that rights are relative and culture are important to non Western states to
make international human rights feasible. The cultural relativists recognize that every culture has
specific world view, with its own notion of good and noble paths, its own notion of how to be a full
human (Lecture 2). To non Western countries that highly values and emphasizes cultural heritage and
traditions in daily life, the concept of human rights is redefined into a more local context that fits their
culture. As An Na im puts it, the violations of human rights take place due to the lack of cultural
legitimacy of human rights standards (2009: 68). Culture is significant to address and respect the
different ideas of human rights among different culture and to make the non western countries more
familiar with human rights. (b) An Na im is opposed to the universality of human rights and favors the
cultural relativist of human rights. He argues that the observance of human rights standards can be
improved through the enhancement of the cultural legitimacy of those standards (An Na im 2009: 69).
He emphasizes the importance of cross cultural legitimacy (An Na im 2009: 69) to develop human
rights through the interpretation of different cultural norms. He further asserts that universalism is
based on ethnocentricity and cultural diversity is unavoidable (An Na im 2009: 72,77). For example,
the cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment is not

Robert Frost Outline
Introduction
In three words I can sum up everything I know about life: it goes on (Robert Frost). Robert Frost is
easily one of America s greatest poets. With their simplicity, fluidity, and t creativity his poems
become something that anyone can understand. It is through his poems that his life s philosophies are
expressed. He simply believes that life goes on and death is something that must come, and it is our
job to respect it, accept it, and move on. His poems usually share a common theme, that it is our job to
accept death and not try to question it, because it is through the questioning of death that our lives
become complicated and unnecessary.

He lived a life so filled with death that there was no way for him to overcome grief besides accepting
the fact that death is a reality that shouldn t be exaggerated. Daniel Moran, a secondary school teacher
of English and American Literature, proposes the theme that the world is a place where random events
sometimes destroy the innocent for no good reason this theme is quite supported throughout the poem
due to the randomness and horror of the boy s death (Out, Out ). Innocence is most perceived through
children and because of that by having the boys freak accident, Robert Frost showed that random

Poets Present Difficult Relationships in The Farmer’s...
Charlotte Mew explores the theme of lack of intimacy during the course of her poem, The Farmers
Bride. Various techniques are used to represent the stilted relationship the speaker and his maid
succumb to. Likewise, The Manhunt, written by Simon Armitage uses various metaphors and
semantic fields of war and anguish to illustrate the speaker s yearning to feel the hurt her partner is
experiencing and take the pain away. Although, the ambiguous ending doesn t satisfy this.
The six stanzas in The Farmer s Bride are of various lengths, with the meter per line varying. Mew
uses this as a representation of the in balance in the relationship of the farmer and his bride. During
the last stanza the farmer is presented to feel sympathetic for his bride and possibly regretful for the
animalistic manner he treated her throughout as she sleeps up in the attic there alone, poor maid Tis
but a stair betwixt us. This is structured in a stair way format, possibly implying the farmer s now
determination to work on his currently failed relationship. Relating this to the stairs which distances
them, is highlighting that they are on different levels from each other, but, despite this he is willing to
try. The two being on different levels is also reflective of their lack of intimacy with each other, yet,
the farmer longs for some other in the house than we. In comparison, Armitage structures his poem in
various stanza consisting of two lines each. This gives a sense of

Essay on How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
How Technology is Represented in Star Wars
When watching the film, Star Wars, it is impossible not to be aware of the technology that is
represented in the film, partly because it is so much more advanced than our own is now, but also
because we can imagine how we might someday acquire such technology. The central theme in Star
Wars is good versus evil, clearly demonstrated by the technology in the film. While the Rebels (the
good guys) use technology primarily to fight for freedom and quality of life for all, the Empire (the
bad guys) use technology to develop weapons of destruction and war in an attempt to rule the galaxy.
In addition to these two opposing sides, there is another group that doesn t use technology for war.

However, even if we don t look into the future, Star Wars can tell us volumes about how technology
can affect our society, especially as it pertains to war.
Through the ages there have been constant struggles to resolve disputes. However, as we can see
through our history, sometimes peaceful resolutions are not possible because of misunderstandings,
corruption, power, or greed. In these cases, one alternative to settling the dispute is war. Technology
plays an extremely important role in war, and this is clearly demonstrated in Star Wars. Star Wars
possesses similarities to our own culture and with the vast amounts of technology represented in the
film, it is an ideal choice to better understand our own society.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to examine Star Wars because we feel intimately connected
to the film and all that it represents. We grew up with R2D2, C3PO, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia,
Han Solo, and Chewbacca. We dressed up like them for Halloween, we played Star Wars games for
countless hours, we imagined ourselves using their futuristic technology, and now we want to study
how this artifact has affected our society and how it might affect our future.
Research Question:
In the movie, Star Wars, how is technology represented differently in its ability to help humankind
and/or destroy it?

narrative of the Haitian Revolution, known as the the only successful slave revolt in history and its

colonists and slaves interpretations of the revolution. Other European scholars with aristocratic,

Career Progression And The Career Development
The above quote by Confucius is often quoted, yet job happiness isn t as easily achieved. One of the
reasons behind job dissatisfaction is often the lack of planning. But career progression and the ability
find a job that doesn t feel like work requires meticulous research and focus.
In this guide, we ll explain career progression and the reasons why it s so important. We ll provide a
four step plan to help you develop a plan that guarantees you don t feel left behind when it comes to
achieving your career goals.
What is career progression?
The concept of career progressing is closely tied to the idea of career development. Career
development is the lifelong process of managing your circumstances in order to move forward to
achieving your personal goals. It s the management of your education, work and leisure activities in a
way that helps you achieve the kind of future you want.
As the definition of progress states, progress is a process developing gradually towards a more
advanced state . Career progression sees you working towards your ultimate professional goals, little
by little.
In essence, career progression determines and outlines the route you should follow in order to reach
the career development goals you ve set out for you. For example, your dream career goal might be to
own your own business. A career progression plan will help identify the educational and work related
steps you should take in order to get closer to this goal and ultimately, to achieve

The Two Main Types Of International Organizations
International organizations have been noted to be around since the mid 19th century and such
organizations do not operate for profit. An international organization is defined by the United Nations
as an organization with an international membership, scope, or presence. The main objective of all the
international organizations they say ,have usually been welfare and the improvement of member
countries through cooperation. Karns and Mingst identify the two main types of international
organizations as IGOs and INGOs which they also refer to as international and transnational structures
who are actors in global governance. Global governance, they say, are the cooperative problem

They employ limited resources to make rules, set standards, procreate principles and broadly represent
more humanity than states and other actors do. There are many kinds of NGOs such as transnational,
government organized, government regulated and initiated, business and industry, donor organized,
donor dominated, people s organizations, operational, advocacy, transnational social movements,
quasi, and anti governmental NGOs. Their number increased (more than 23,000 in the early 1990s)
and their effectiveness for transnational politics became more relevant in recent decades. They have
become crucial participants in the international policy process says Brown (1995). Some INGOs are
formed to advocate a particular cause such as human rights, peace, or environmental protection. While
others are established to provide services such as disaster relief, humanitarian aid in war torn societies,
or development assistance. Many INGOs are transnational federations involving formal, long term
links among national groups. Examples include the International Federation of Red Cross and Red
Crescent Societies, the World Wildlife Fund, Transparency International, Human Rights Watch,
Amnesty International, and Save the Children. INGOs governance functions parallel many functions
provided by IGOs and, like IGOs, they can be analyzed as both pieces of and actors in global
governance. As pieces of governance, INGOs

Intersexual disorders though rare have occurred throughout history. The victims of the condition were
labeled Hermaphrodites after the Greek son of Hermes and Aphrodite, who was succumbed by the
water nymph Salmacis and transformed into an androgynous being. Today, disorders of sexual
differentiation (DSDs) occur at a rate of about 1.7% worldwide annually (Larson, 2011). It is defined
to include congenital conditions in which development of chromosomal, gonadal, or anatomical sex is
atypical. The treatment of individuals born with this anomaly differs in various regions of the world.
The responses to the condition vary from being put to death, to being admired and called upon to give
advice in the battle of the sexes.
Until the late nineteenth century very little research was done by the medical fraternity. During the late
1800 s advances in gynecological medicine and a multitude of examinations spawned by military
preparedness, reports of the condition increased and facilitated an interest in research. Because most in
the medical fraternity were politically conservative there was a strong influence to maintain the
current male/female binary system. A third party would not be welcomed in most of the western
world.
The condition and conclusion to act hastily to decide the sex of an individual is complicated, and most
in the western medical fraternity believe that it should take place

Essay on Why the Design Argument Fails
Why the Design Argument Fails The Design Argument does fail due to its weaknesses, it is lacking in
factual and substantial evidence to prove its theories. It puts forward a lot of ideas and claims however
they are not justified well enough; the only true fact is that you have to believe them. I feel it is correct
to claim that it fails due to the amount of criticising evidence against the theories for the existence of
God.
The main philosopher to criticise and object to the Teleogical Argument was David Hume. He looked
at every point towards the existence towards a creator and designer and then thought logically about
the condemnation and came up with rebuttals. He realised that ... Show more content on

He then compares a watch against a floating vegetable. A clock to a large organic mass is not possible
to compare. It would be better to compare it to an immense floating object. He is stating how absurd it
is that a small simple item could be linked to such a powerful designer. You cannot link a watch
towards something, which is a far more superior, and multitasking being. Like many of these
assumptions they are lacking concrete evidence to prove it, it is just a theory and therefore weakens
the argument towards the existence of a creator.
Another protestation, which Hume makes, is the difference between the world at present and the world
at birth. He asks how we can link what was then from what we see now, the time difference is too
great and too big of an assumption. When we link the dinosaurs and try to analysis their life and habits
we can only learn from what we have. Then we tend to assume what time period they lived and who
hunted whom. Once again there is no real evidence to prove where or when they existed and this is
just like the creator theories. We assume and try to link things together from what we have without
looking at all the evidence and waiting for 100% accurate facts. So we just predict and say it is the
way forward. However this is incorrect and therefore false to state this. Yet many Philopshers tend to
say that it is

The Impact Of Teenagers In The 1950 s
The 1950 s was a time of great social change. The word, teen ager was recently coined and applied to
people aged thirteen to nineteen. During this decade, people s perception of youth and adolescents
drastically changed as children became more rebellious. Previous to 1950. society consisted of two
main stages of human development: children and adults. When the Baby Boom started in 1946,
producing more babies, a new era of music, attitudes, practices, and dance began to appeal to kids that
did not feel socially accepted by adults in society. This was the start of the teenage rebellion. With
increased teenager presence came more disapproval because of rebellious behaviour. Teenagers were
pitted against media, parents, and local authority. Teenagers started disobeying parents, getting
expelled from school, and fighting back against authority. Indeed, the 50s were a time that saw
upheavals towards the impact of the music, change of attitudes, new fashions, and new dances
developed children into teenagers. The impact music had on teenagers was significant. Teenager s
developed a new style of music called Rock n Roll, because the lyrics reflected and embraced their
lives. High school sweethearts, fast cars, and rebellion against authority resembled what teenagers
craved the most. Parents disliked the message and influence behind the lyrics of Rock n Roll, because
they believed it caused juvenile delinquency. Parents hated the sexuality of the songs, the performers,

The costs of the product are converted to per unit, then a predetermined percentage is added to provide
a profit margin making it the Cost Plus Pricing. The cost plus approach relies on arbitrary costs and
arbitrary markups. Many companies use this strategy to maximize their return rates.
According to Federal News Radio, the U.S. government agencies spent $135 billion in 2008 on cost
plus type contracts states Lisa Magloff, Demand Media.
Cost plus pricing commonly is used in processing credit card transactions. This involves three banks.
A pricing system called interchange plus adds a merchant service provider s fee to the rate charged by
the credit card provider for each transaction. The merchant banks regulates the transaction of the
goods sold to that of the appropriate payment there of. This price model is good for merchants because
it tells them exactly how much each credit card transaction will cost them to process.
2 Potential problems are: This method ignores the concept of price elasticity of demand. Less
incentive to cut or control costs, needs an estimate and apportionment of business overheads. If
applied strictly, a full cost plus pricing method may leave a business in a vicious circle. When setting
price, marketers must take into consideration several factors which are the result of company decisions
and actions. To a large extent these factors are controlled by the company and, if necessary, can be
altered. However, while the

Stereotyping Stereotypes
When we use stereotypes, we are criticizing someone, for example, when we say all police officers are
corrupt, all men who aren t into sports are gay or all blonde women are dumb. Stereotyping is a result
of incompetence on distorted information accepted as a fact without question. A stereotype is simply a
widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain group based upon characteristics.
Stereotyping can be positive, for example, all Blacks are good at sports, all Asians are good at math or
French people are romantic. Stereotypes can also help identify how to interact with each other, for
example Canadians are exceptionally polite. Either way stereotyping is morally wrong and
judgmental. If your group is positively stereotyped in an area, then you can endure a lot more
frustration and difficultly before you assume or infer that you don t belong in that domain (Steele,
2010). This paper will focus on the origin of stereotyping, how stereotypes affect judgement and
behavior and will explore profiling versus stereotyping.
Stereotyping is defined as an oversimplified, usually pejorative, attitude people hold toward those
outside one s own experience who are different. They are a result of incomplete or distorted
information accepted as fact without question. A stereotype is simply a widely held belief that an
individual is a member of a certain group based on characteristics. Due to the process of
overgeneralization within social perception, stereotyping leads to a great deal of inaccuracy in social
perception (Chandler, n.d.). ##My stance is## Stereotyping is always morally wrong and judgmental.
How you reach your opinion of others makes it morally wrong, when you encounter someone for the
first time you should not have a prejudged notion of that person, first impressions should always start
from zero. The most ethical place to begin is to acknowledge that you have biases and stereotypes and
once your interaction starts then place them accordingly. Stereotyping is a mental shortcut and this isn
t always negative although we should be aware that we all harmlessly do it and must always be
conscious of it.

Antibiotic Resistance To Antibiotics
Antibiotic Resistance The increasing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is a growing problem that
affects individuals on a global status. Antibiotic resistance refers to the ability of bacteria to alter their
genetic material and mutate to avoid destruction by antibiotic medications rendering the drugs
ineffective in fighting infection and disease. This resistance has had tragic effects as numerous of the
resistant infections have resulted in death of the host. Because of the severity of this condition,
organizations and institutions across the globe have been working together to study and examine the
best strategies to combat these resistant bacteria or sometimes referred to as superbugs . Many
innovations have been proposed and implemented in attempts to rid people of their infections. The
discussion of which approaches are the most effective and cost efficient has been taking place for
decades and is still occurring today along with further investigations of alternatives to antibiotics
altogether. Researchers are also attempting to understand what has caused the problem of antibiotic
resistance and how this problem has developed. Efforts to contest these bacteria are extremely
important and it is now up to the next generation of health care providers, researchers, and educators
to implement the best ways to keep people healthy. There is much speculation about what has caused
the increased resistance of bacteria to antibiotics and how this problem has developed.

Spain and the Balkans came under a long period of Muslim rule as did Iran and the middle eastern

Perhaps this was a positive aspect of the rigid codification of laws and the caste system. China and
Japan were geographically isolated and never faced large scale invasion from Islam, which anyway
spread in Indonesia , the Philippines and malaysis, with the waning of Indian power. East Asia was in
fact an important sphere of Indian cultural export, with the Srivijaya Empire, the Majpahit Empire and

Different Approaches to Screen Violence Essays
Different Approaches to Screen Violence
Violence is a strong issue in society. In a world that is surrounded by terrorism, aggression and crime,
the way violence is represented in the media can be crucial. Most viewers define violence as an act
that breaks out of a personal comfort zone and therefore opinions of how violent a scene is can differ.
Arguments for the link between violence in the media and real life focus on the perpetrator of violence
being unable to acknowledge the difference between reality and the fiction portrayed in film. These
opinions however, are frequently the results of a public who use violent films as a scapegoat for
physical aspects that shape people s lives. Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hits the audience with a sense of reality and makes the emphasis with the character. There is a
soundtrack that plays when a jump cut takes place to the two main characters walking down a street.
This music plays a contrast between the normal lifestyle, and when they are at fight club.
In Drunken Master, sound is important in establishing the scene. The synchronous diagetic sounds of
punching and kicking are overly exaggerated. This emphasises the violence but at the same time
makes the scene become less severe and somewhat comical. There is no music at the start of the
scene; this creates realism and a tense atmosphere. After a pause in the action, the first piece of
dialogue is spoken. Jackie Chan is taunted and challenged. As Jackie accepts his opponents proposal
an incidental piece of music begins to play. It is a fast heroic piece, with obvious oriental influences.
This gets the audience involved in the scene and makes them feel empathy for Jackie. Sound plays an
important part in both scenes, and helps to add to and take away from the way violence is portrayed.
There are many similarities that give off different effects in each scene.
Fight Club uses a montage of fast cuts, which increases the pace and makes the scene look visually
impressive. There is no slow motion editing

Mayan Genocide
Decolonization can cause a great deal of tension between the colonizers and the colonized of a
country. This is especially true for the country of Guatemala, where Spanish colonizers settled on and
started to conquer Mayan or indigenous peoples land. During the late 1900 s, a civil war broke out
between the indigenous people and the government of Guatemala. The result of the civil war was a
genocide, killing and displacing thousands of innocent Mayan s; and destroying most of their land.
The government attempted to abolish the indigenous people because they feared that the Mayan s
were turning communistic.(Rey 241) A genocide was started that would remove the Mayan culture
and history from Guatemala, ending the existence of the indigenous people. Rigorberto Menchu s

because there may be less reservations being made ahead of time, and more walk ins. On the contrary,
in a center city luxury resort there is a higher likelihood that the guests have made reservations

The residential appraiser is taught how to measure a home, examine it for positive and negative
features, take photos, study the neighborhood, seek out comparable sales and listings, and create a
report that solves a valuation problem. All of these things primarily involve the technical side of the
work. But what about the bigger picture? What we do has a profound effect upon our local markets,
communities, and the nation as a whole. We are an important participant in all of these things.
You can see it in everyday practice. Is it just a coincidence that a size adjustment of say $30 per square

But if you still are not sure, think about some things that will happen if you do the wrong thing.
Being listed in MLS, if that home does end up closing at the inflated price, it will show up as a closed
sale in MLS. When brokers and agents conduct a competitive market analysis of another similar home
they want to list, the inflated price of the property you over appraised will enter into their research and
influence the list price the agent recommends to their seller. I have seen situations where just one
inflated sale caused every new listing in a neighborhood to be priced at the same level. The inflated
sale can cause a cascade effect. Now every home is overpriced because of one inflated sale. The result
is buyers faced with less affordability and/or sellers attempting to sell their homes at asking prices that
are not realistic. Buyers, sellers, agents and even lenders and title companies out there can suffer as a
result of this. All because you did not do your duty and failed to consider the bigger picture.
The appraiser, whether he or she realizes it or not, often acts as a traffic cop. The mere presence of a
policeman on a busy road will cause most sensible drivers to pay greater attention to the rules of the
road. But simple visibility alone is not enough. The cop must be willing to act when necessary. Most
traffic laws are enforced in such a way as to allow for at least some degree of noncompliance, such as

Road Trip Research Paper
Why didn t you put on some sunscreen? What were you thinking? These are some of the questions
that arose on a long summer road trip. During the summer of 2016, my family and I went on a three
week road trip starting in Chestertown, NY, and going as far west as Yellowstone National Park. The
first stop on the trip was Niagara Falls. We went at night, and the water was lit up in various colors, it
was pretty cool. These days heading out west were mainly long days in the truck followed up with
even more long days in the truck. Before we went to on the trip, I thought that the trip down to Albany
took forever, but a couple of fifteen plus hour drives going out west made going to Albany seem like it
was just down the road. After two, maybe three days we were driving through Chicago at 3 in the
morning (that s the time of night I saw several major cities along this trip) I thought it looked nice
from what I could see, but then again it was 3 in the morning. That night, we didn t have any
reservations, so we ended up trying to just spend the night in a Walmart parking lot on the outskirts of
Chicago (what an idea). We tried to go to bed for like 10 mins, and I swear I could hear a gun firing
off in the distance, and you could hear people walking by the camper, and not to mention the cop
sirens you could hear too. We basically got back in the truck and left real quick. Next, we went north
and ended up staying at a place on the Missouri River for a couple of nights. The

Underage Drinking And Teenage Drinking
Alex Wilmore Joshua James, Instructor ENG 111 07 July 2015 Underage Drinking With such
compelling information, the question is why haven t we been able to do more to prevent the crisis of
underage drinking? The answer is: rising the age to 25 is what Lucille Roybal Allard once said, a U.S.
Representative for serving in Congress since 1993. This statement has brought many to speculate of
issues and debates. This expression opened the eyes of American people that often struggled to make
this truth into a reality. It might be easy to believe that age laws lowered the deaths of the underage but
there are still signs of its dreadful company in many pieces of American life. Families who choose to
educate their children about underage drinking and driving, seem to have a higher chance of getting
through with the child. These underage teens can face jail or death when they give drinking a chance
and even attempt to drive, having a sexual intercourse or just plain out doing something out of the teen

teachers, the parents and everyone who is willing to be involved. The underage drinking can be

opinion being to have parental and teacher prevention methods and the second opinion being that

Drum N Bass and Breakbeat are two similar sounding genres that have coexisted together since the
early 2000s in their current guise. There have been many off shoots of both genres over the years, such
as Tech Step, Liquid, Jump up for Drum N Bass plus Nu Skool, Jungle, and Electro for Breakbeat, just

create the music, plus both can trace their roots deriving from Hardcore, which utilised breakbeats in
the early 90s, and originated from London. The main difference between the two genres is the Tempo

Bass and Breakbeat as a genre, showing the path and points of where the music has its origins.
I will give explanations of various sub genres of Breakbeat based music whilst exploring the path of
the originality of the term Breakbeat and its links with other parts of the Breakbeat family, such as
Breakbeat House or Breakbeat Garage which I will examine later in this chapter. Whilst the history of
Drum N Bass has been well documents (Reynolds 1998, Belle Fortune, 2005, Ferringo, 2011, Bradley,
2013) the focus of this study is not on the origins of Drum N Bass but rather on the originations of the
genre Breakbeat, and the exploration of why Breakbeat never had a comparable level of commercial
success as Drum N Bass.
What I believe to be obscure is the culture and background of Breakbeat as a genre, as there appears to

The Effect Of Traffic On Major Cities By Running A Few...
Traffic Lab
ITEC 201 In this lab we will examine the impact of traffic on major cities by running a few test
simulations as well as examining data on the topic. Please answer the following questions in detail.
1. What are some major challenges you feel cities face when dealing with and handling large amounts
of traffic? What could be some potential solutions that could minimize some traffic congestion?
When dealing with handling large amounts of traffic, cities may experience a higher incidence of
accidents or speeding cars due to road rage. Cities also deal with risking driver safety because some
drivers may be tired from long hours at work and do not have enough energy to stay awake throughout
the hours of traffic on the road home every day. Traffic congestion not only affects car drivers, but it
may also delay the trip of those who get to places on the bus and in taxi cabs as well. On city roads,
traffic congestion may lead to the death of many pedestrians by car accident because drivers may
become impatient and outrageously try to run red lights or not stop at the crosswalks. Also, the
running engine in the high traffic may lead to high rates of air pollution. Some potential solution are to
build bridges or streets around the city that are made mainly for public transportation services such as
the city bus or taxi cab in order to reduce the number of frustrated drivers on one road. Also, cities
may also arrange for road construction to be done at times when the

Juveniles Should Not Be Prison

successfully complete college without having to request loans or pay off student debt once I graduate.
Earning this award would greatly assist me in paying for my college tuition and other expense that

Narrative Style in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Narrative Style in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
The Heart of Darkness employs, broadly, a three framed narrative style. Conrad, the author, places an
unnamed narrator aboard the Nellie with Marlow, who is the third narrator/frame. The unnamed
narrator functions as both a teller of Marlow s tale to us and a listener to Marlow. The significance of
these frames can be analysed by looking at three effects which this arrangement produces.
The usage of Marlow as narrator instead of Conrad himself became important due to Conrad s anxiety
to adopt an English point of view which had been denied to him largely. His self consciousness as a
Polish émigré and therefore an outsider reflected in his attempt at anglicising his name. Also well

That the frame narrator is also a would be listener makes it easy for the reader to step into his shoes
and for Conrad to thenceforth shape and manipulate the reader s responses as and when Marlow
retaliates or explains his point of view to him (and in effect, to us).
Marlow s attempt at recreating his subjective past is met with unease on the part of the narrator and
like a litmus paper he brings out the intellectual and emotional effect the author is seeking. When the
effect has been so affirmed, the author proceeds to manipulate it. When, for example, we see Marlow s
desperation for having missed the chance to speak to Kurtz as absurd, Conrad makes the listeners sigh
with the same reaction. Marlow reacts heatedly Why do you react in this beastly way, somebody?
Absurd? ... This is the worst of trying to tell... Here you all are, each moored with two good addresses,
like a hulk with two anchors, a butcher round one corner, a policeman round another. Pp 53 This
chastisement by Conrad gets displaced from Marlow s companions to the reader. Marlow is trying to
prevent us from judging Kurtz and by doing so highlights his importance in the tale s critical
discourse.
Finally, another significance of the narrative within narrative framework is that the double

  • 2. The Great Barrier Reef Has Lived Off Of The Southern Coast... For over 25 million years, the Great Barrier Reef has lived off of the northeastern coast of Australia. The first human civilizations started around 5,000 years ago and industrialization of humans about 200 years ago (History of Humans, 2016). The human race s timeline is just a small fraction in comparison to the reefs, but somehow humanity has managed completely derail mother nature in an incomprehensible amount of ways. Healthwise, the Great Barrier Reef is in the worst shape of its life and which just so happens to match ever so nicely with the rapid pandemic of global warming that has increased over the past couple of decades. The rise in air temperature is gradually increasing the ocean s temperature as well which is causing colossal damage to Great Barrier Reef and reefs across the globe. If we do not take action immediately in reducing our planet s rising temperature and ever increasing CO2, it will soon be too late to save this natural wonder as well as the countless organism that call it home. Besides being a spectacle to look at, coral reefs are also one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. In addition to ⅓ of all fish (not just species) spend at least a portion of their lives on a reef, they are also home to mollusks, sponges, turtles, and a plethora of different species of coral (Basic Facts, 2014). Coral reefs also can protect coastlines from wave erosion and also help support fisherman that depend on the reef as their livelihood. Contrary to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. East Timor Assignment Term 4 Economics Essay Jack Stickley East Timor is a country surrounded by a picturesque and untouched landscape that has inhabited people for centuries. In today s society however, East Timor has been economically left behind in comparison to other western world super powers. As the country attempts to rebuild its national identity following their separation from the Indonesia regime, certain obstacles threaten to stop their progress to become a developed nation. Least Developed Countries (LDC s) can be commonly categorized by their lack of infrastructure and residential development, and visibly through the contrast to well developed countries of the Western world. The United Nations use the following criteria to identify LDC s. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the world gripped by oil shortage The Timor Sea Treaty, which is split 90% to 10% in favour of Timor, will be useful in the development of the country. Accessing income is currently difficult for workers and therefore they don t have the capacity to invest or save what they do earn, but income can be earned and received through providing services and withholding this income from third parties that may interfere. East Timor is in desperate need of foreign dollars. A dependence on aid in the short term with an increased reliance on services in the medium to long term rather than the export of agricultural and manufactured commodities may be an optimum strategy for East Timor. Entrepreneurial skills need to be developed through a strong education system. Continued external support is required as the building blocks for East Timor to develop economically. The Government also has a significant role to play as it is crucial that the country adopts Macroeconomic policies which also generate productive work and income opportunities to develop sustainable livelihoods. It is important that the poor are assisted in their efforts to improve their farming and commodity production. East Timor is currently a country with economic, social and political difficulties and is a country that is fighting back following a difficult phase in the countries political life. • 4. Western Imperialism 1. (a) The post WWII is marked as the rise of human rights. The universal human rights has become apparent in the international system, and has become the basis of drafting the UDHR. The universal human rights states all humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. This phrase has guaranteed and protected the human rights of all human beings without any distinction. (a) The universalists conceptualize rights as a special narrow category of rights based on a universal notion of the inherent dignity of human beings and human rights claims are morally justified demands to rectify injustice (Lecture 2). Human rights ensure that all human beings have these inherent dignity and rights. The universalism puts more emphasis on the individual rights to impede states from violation of these rights, winning over state sovereignty. The tension of this approach is the rise of cultural legitimacy, claiming that rights are relative and culture are important to non Western states to make international human rights feasible. The cultural relativists recognize that every culture has specific world view, with its own notion of good and noble paths, its own notion of how to be a full human (Lecture 2). To non Western countries that highly values and emphasizes cultural heritage and traditions in daily life, the concept of human rights is redefined into a more local context that fits their culture. As An Na im puts it, the violations of human rights take place due to the lack of cultural legitimacy of human rights standards (2009: 68). Culture is significant to address and respect the different ideas of human rights among different culture and to make the non western countries more familiar with human rights. (b) An Na im is opposed to the universality of human rights and favors the cultural relativist of human rights. He argues that the observance of human rights standards can be improved through the enhancement of the cultural legitimacy of those standards (An Na im 2009: 69). He emphasizes the importance of cross cultural legitimacy (An Na im 2009: 69) to develop human rights through the interpretation of different cultural norms. He further asserts that universalism is based on ethnocentricity and cultural diversity is unavoidable (An Na im 2009: 72,77). Various techniques are used to represent the stilted relationship the speaker and his maid succumb to. Essay on Why the Design Argument Fails Why the Design Argument Fails The Design Argument does fail due to its weaknesses, it is lacking in factual and substantial evidence to prove its theories. It puts forward a lot of ideas and claims however they are not justified well enough; the only true fact is that you have to believe them. I feel it is correct to claim that it fails due to the amount of criticising evidence against the theories for the existence of God. The main philosopher to criticise and object to the Teleogical Argument was David Hume. You cannot link a watch towards something, which is a far more superior, and multitasking being. Like many of these assumptions they are lacking concrete evidence to prove it, it is just a theory and therefore weakens the argument towards the existence of a creator. Another protestation, which Hume makes, is the difference between the world at present and the world at birth. He asks how we can link what was then from what we see now, the time difference is too great and too big of an assumption. When we link the dinosaurs and try to analysis their life and habits we can only learn from what we have. Then we tend to assume what time period they lived and who hunted whom. Once again there is no real evidence to prove where or when they existed and this is just like the creator theories. We assume and try to link things together from what we have without looking at all the evidence and waiting for 100% accurate facts. So we just predict and say it is the way forward. Stereotyping Stereotypes When we use stereotypes, we are criticizing someone, for example, when we say all police officers are corrupt, all men who aren t into sports are gay or all blonde women are dumb. Stereotyping is a result of incompetence on distorted information accepted as a fact without question. A stereotype is simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain group based upon characteristics. Stereotyping can be positive, for example, all Blacks are good at sports, all Asians are good at math or French people are romantic. Stereotypes can also help identify how to interact with each other, for example Canadians are exceptionally polite. Either way stereotyping is morally wrong and judgmental. If your group is positively stereotyped in an area, then you can endure a lot more frustration and difficultly before you assume or infer that you don t belong in that domain (Steele, 2010). This paper will focus on the origin of stereotyping, how stereotypes affect judgement and behavior and will explore profiling versus stereotyping. Stereotyping is defined as an oversimplified, usually pejorative, attitude people hold toward those outside one s own experience who are different. They are a result of incomplete or distorted information accepted as fact without question. A stereotype is simply a widely held belief that an individual is a member of a certain group based on characteristics. Due to the process of overgeneralization within social perception, stereotyping leads to a great deal of inaccuracy in social perception (Chandler, n.d.). ##My stance is## Stereotyping is always morally wrong and judgmental. How you reach your opinion of others makes it morally wrong, when you encounter someone for the first time you should not have a prejudged notion of that person, first impressions should always start from zero. The most ethical place to begin is to acknowledge that you have biases and stereotypes and once your interaction starts then place them accordingly. East Asia was in fact an important sphere of Indian cultural export, with the Srivijaya Empire, the Majpahit Empire and so on ruling for long. Here as Indian power fragmented and declined. Islam and then European commercialist colonialism stepped in. And yet much of Indian culture survived, in Indochina and Indonesia among other places, and Bali is still Hindu. Indeed India did expand as a culture, via Buddhism all over East Asia and Ceylon, where Indian sages spread the word of Buddha. Asoka was a self conscious cultural proselytizer. • 26. Different Approaches to Screen Violence Essays Different Approaches to Screen Violence Violence is a strong issue in society. In a world that is surrounded by terrorism, aggression and crime, the way violence is represented in the media can be crucial. Most viewers define violence as an act that breaks out of a personal comfort zone and therefore opinions of how violent a scene is can differ. Arguments for the link between violence in the media and real life focus on the perpetrator of violence being unable to acknowledge the difference between reality and the fiction portrayed in film. These opinions however, are frequently the results of a public who use violent films as a scapegoat for physical aspects that shape people s lives. Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This hits the audience with a sense of reality and makes the emphasis with the character. There is a soundtrack that plays when a jump cut takes place to the two main characters walking down a street. This music plays a contrast between the normal lifestyle, and when they are at fight club. In Drunken Master, sound is important in establishing the scene. The synchronous diagetic sounds of punching and kicking are overly exaggerated. This emphasises the violence but at the same time makes the scene become less severe and somewhat comical. There is no music at the start of the scene; this creates realism and a tense atmosphere. After a pause in the action, the first piece of dialogue is spoken. Jackie Chan is taunted and challenged. As Jackie accepts his opponents proposal an incidental piece of music begins to play. It is a fast heroic piece, with obvious oriental influences. This gets the audience involved in the scene and makes them feel empathy for Jackie. Sound plays an important part in both scenes, and helps to add to and take away from the way violence is portrayed. There are many similarities that give off different effects in each scene. Fight Club uses a montage of fast cuts, which increases the pace and makes the scene look visually impressive. There is no slow motion editing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is especially true for the country of Guatemala, where Spanish colonizers settled on and started to conquer Mayan or indigenous peoples land. During the late 1900 s, a civil war broke out between the indigenous people and the government of Guatemala. The result of the civil war was a genocide, killing and displacing thousands of innocent Mayan s; and destroying most of their land. The government attempted to abolish the indigenous people because they feared that the Mayan s were turning communistic.(Rey 241) A genocide was started that would remove the Mayan culture and history from Guatemala, ending the existence of the indigenous people. The roadside motel front office and the center city luxury resort still have the responsibility to communicate with the housekeeping and maintenance departments about service requests, or special accommodations requests, such as extra pillows or a roll away bed. The residential appraiser is taught how to measure a home, examine it for positive and negative features, take photos, study the neighborhood, seek out comparable sales and listings, and create a report that solves a valuation problem. All of these things primarily involve the technical side of the work. But what about the bigger picture? What we do has a profound effect upon our local markets, communities, and the nation as a whole. We are an important participant in all of these things. You can see it in everyday practice. But if you still are not sure, think about some things that will happen if you do the wrong thing. Being listed in MLS, if that home does end up closing at the inflated price, it will show up as a closed sale in MLS. When brokers and agents conduct a competitive market analysis of another similar home they want to list, the inflated price of the property you over appraised will enter into their research and influence the list price the agent recommends to their seller. I have seen situations where just one inflated sale caused every new listing in a neighborhood to be priced at the same level. The inflated sale can cause a cascade effect. Now every home is overpriced because of one inflated sale. The result is buyers faced with less affordability and/or sellers attempting to sell their homes at asking prices that are not realistic. Buyers, sellers, agents and even lenders and title companies out there can suffer as a result of this. All because you did not do your duty and failed to consider the bigger picture. The mere presence of a policeman on a busy road will cause most sensible drivers to pay greater attention to the rules of the road. But simple visibility alone is not enough. During the summer of 2016, my family and I went on a three week road trip starting in Chestertown, NY, and going as far west as Yellowstone National Park. The first stop on the trip was Niagara Falls. We went at night, and the water was lit up in various colors, it was pretty cool. These days heading out west were mainly long days in the truck followed up with even more long days in the truck. Before we went to on the trip, I thought that the trip down to Albany took forever, but a couple of fifteen plus hour drives going out west made going to Albany seem like it was just down the road. After two, maybe three days we were driving through Chicago at 3 in the morning (that s the time of night I saw several major cities along this trip) I thought it looked nice from what I could see, but then again it was 3 in the morning. That night, we didn t have any reservations, so we ended up trying to just spend the night in a Walmart parking lot on the outskirts of Chicago (what an idea). We tried to go to bed for like 10 mins, and I swear I could hear a gun firing off in the distance, and you could hear people walking by the camper, and not to mention the cop sirens you could hear too. The answer is: rising the age to 25 is what Lucille Roybal Allard once said, a U.S. Representative for serving in Congress since 1993. This statement has brought many to speculate of issues and debates. This expression opened the eyes of American people that often struggled to make this truth into a reality. Traffic Lab ITEC 201 In this lab we will examine the impact of traffic on major cities by running a few test simulations as well as examining data on the topic. Please answer the following questions in detail. 1. What are some major challenges you feel cities face when dealing with and handling large amounts of traffic? What could be some potential solutions that could minimize some traffic congestion? When dealing with handling large amounts of traffic, cities may experience a higher incidence of accidents or speeding cars due to road rage. Cities also deal with risking driver safety because some drivers may be tired from long hours at work and do not have enough energy to stay awake throughout the hours of traffic on the road home every day. Traffic congestion not only affects car drivers, but it may also delay the trip of those who get to places on the bus and in taxi cabs as well. On city roads, traffic congestion may lead to the death of many pedestrians by car accident because drivers may become impatient and outrageously try to run red lights or not stop at the crosswalks. Also, the running engine in the high traffic may lead to high rates of air pollution. Some potential solution are to build bridges or streets around the city that are made mainly for public transportation services such as the city bus or taxi cab in order to reduce the number of frustrated drivers on one road. Also, cities may also arrange for road construction to be done at times when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conrad, the author, places an unnamed narrator aboard the Nellie with Marlow, who is the third narrator/frame. The unnamed narrator functions as both a teller of Marlow s tale to us and a listener to Marlow. The significance of these frames can be analysed by looking at three effects which this arrangement produces. The usage of Marlow as narrator instead of Conrad himself became important due to Conrad s anxiety to adopt an English point of view which had been denied to him largely. When the effect has been so affirmed, the author proceeds to manipulate it.
