International Copyright Essay
The idea that an author of a literary work has certain inalienable rights to his work has been an
institution found on a national level in many countries for centuries. These rights have taken on
different forms depending on the legal tradition of the country where it is applied. In systems with a
common law tradition, based on utilitarian ideals, the rights were referred to as copyright. In systems
that relied on a civil law tradition, based on philosophical thought and the basic idea of a moral and
natural order, the rights became to be known as author s rights and later expanded to neighboring
rights. Although these rights, and the laws that went along with them, developed in many countries
around the same time in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These laws were upheld unchanged until 1957 when a new copyright act was passed (Goldstein, 9).
Author s right is normally thought to correspond with natural rights, yet this wasn t the case until the
late nineteenth century. This portion of the author s right tradition emerged from the idea that the
personality of the author of a literary work is linked to the work itself. A theory that can be traced back
to Otto von Gierke and Kant (Goldstein, 9). This lead to the separation of personal rights from
economic rights in French law, where it was believed that an author s moral rights were more or less
absolute. As the laws around author s right were being constructed and worked out in many different
civil courts, there was new technology being developed that would challenge the very idea of
authorship. These new technologies, such as photographs and motion pictures would give rise to the
controversy between what was the product of a mechanical creation and what was the work of an
artistic author. These debates would continue and the tradition of neighboring rights would emerge to
provide protection for performances, sound recordings, and broadcasts. The main difference between
author s right and neighboring rights is that the latter doesn t consider the protected works literary or

Tibetan Independence Essay
The Question of Tibetan Independence
China has occupied the Tibetan plateau with military force for over 50 years now. The legitimacy of
Chinese claims to lawful control over Tibet is an extremely complicated issue, in many ways made
more difficult by the unusual relationship Tibet maintained in relation to the international community
before 1950. There are several competing considerations regarding Tibet s rightful status, each to be
addressed in turn. A historical account is necessary to address claims that Tibet has always been an
integral part of China, as well as to determine what formal arrangements have existed in the past and
with what parties. Determining the status of Tibet in international law is a crucial step in ... Show

This supposed connection refers to a rather complex relationship that has evolved over a period of
centuries. Though historically there certainly has been contact and some degree of connection between
Tibet and China, this connection does not necessarily provide the basis for Chinese claims to lawful
possession of Tibet. One fundamental issue when dealing with the legal status of Tibet is to first
determine what the name Tibet refers to, which is in fact enormously controversial. The current
Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) as designated by the PRC is not equivalent to the traditional
Greater Tibet referred to by Tibetans. There are large groups of ethnically Tibetan people in the
Qinghai, Sichuan, and Gansu provinces of China, separate from the TAR. These regions lay outside of
what Melvyn Goldstein terms political Tibet , the central Tibetan areas administered as part of Tibet
more or less continuously since the inception of unified Tibetan government. Tibetans in exile
consider the eastern regions, which they know as Kham and Amdo to also be contained within Tibet .
Goldstein dubs these areas ethnographic Tibet (Goldstein xi).
The distinction between political and ethnographic Tibet creates confusion, much of it willful, in
discussion of the historical relations between Tibet and China. For example, there are instances where
the Chinese claim that they received governmental

My Options for the Sports Brand Sponsors
Marketing Sponsor
Sponsors support organizations or events financially, and in return, they ask the organizations to
advertise their logo. It is up to the organization to find different ways, through which they can
advertise the brand. The sports franchise I work for, wants me to find sponsors and the way those
sponsors should advertise. Following is the information related to the current brand, which is
sponsoring the company and three more brands which I have found for the franchise and the ways in
which their logos are going to be advertised.
Current Sponsors and how they are used
The current sponsors, which the sports franchise has is Sky Sports; Sky Sports is a famous sports
channel, where matches of different sports are shown. The current way in which the logo of Sky
Sports is being displayed is through T shirts. Every athlete wears a shirt, on which the logo of Sky
Sports is printed. As sports events are shown on national or international television, the logos are seen
by everyone, who watches the sports event. Moreover, when athletes are called for interviews, they
usually wear their sports jerseys, on which the logo of Star Sports is displayed, giving more exposure
to the brand.
First Sponsor
The first brand which I would approach to sponsor the sports franchise is XBOX; XBOX has captured
the attention of a vast audience, as it is fun for the children and the young. The way through which the
sponsor logo of XBOX would be used is through an application of XBOX, on

Blackwood Vs Holmes
¨ You see, but you do not observe. The distinction is clear. this quote from A Scandal in Bohemia
shows that some people do not observe, they just look at the obvious. All the clues and hint that are in
the movies and stories that the villains have left , Watson just looks at everything around him unlike
Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes is able to identify who the culprit is throughout the short stories
and the films that we watched in class. Both of these movies, Sherlock Holmes and The Great Mouse
Detective, have antagonists that are represented in different ways.
In the movie Sherlock Holmes the villain is named Blackwood and in The Great Mouse Detective the
villain is Professor Ratigan. In all of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s stories there is always a villain or a
suspect. Blackwood in the film Sherlock Holmes and Professor Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective
were both out to achieve a similar goal . Both of the characters in these movies have similarities, but
both of the characters also have differences as well. While Blackwood in Sherlock Holmes is a human,
Ratigan is a rat in The Great Mouse Detective. The two characters have goals during the films that
want to achieve. The films the villains have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blackwood s archenemy was Sherlock Holmes and Ratigan s was Basil of Baker Street. The
antagonists were similar because they both represented Sherlock Holmes from Sir Arthur Conan

their different ways of finding their opponents. Basil from Baker Street in The Great Mouse Detective

##ciousness And Savagery In William Golding s Lord Of The...
Lord of the Flies Civilized thoughts and morals are the outcome of a highly complex neural circuit
producing chemicals such as serotonin located in the frontal lobe, temporal lobe, the parietal lobe and
the ventromedial prefrontal cortex of the brain (Morality Work in the Brain). The mix of adrenaline
and the inaccurate quantity of serotonin influences the respectable opinions of humans into vile
feelings and actions (The Moral Brain). In agonizing and traumatic situations, the behavioral ethics of
the person alter and savagery and barbarity occur. In most cases, humans changing their behavioral
viewpoint does not occur in modern day civilization. On the other hand, it does appear in detailed
novels. A prime example of this category is Lord of the Flies composed by William Golding. The
author explicitly describes the evolution of the characters decivilization using precise imagery. In
Chapter Eight of Golding s novel Lord of the Flies, the use of sensory imagery, diction, and dialogue
exemplifies the viciousness and savagery in the horrid scene. Initially in Chapter Eight, the boys
pursue a herd of pigs for nourishment on the island. The pigs are sensuously enjoying the shadows
under the trees. There was no wind and they were unsuspicious (Golding Chapter Eight). Based on
this phrase, the pigs in the novel symbolize the innocence that is embedded on the island because of
their benevolent manner. Be that as it may, Jack s obsession revolving around

Effects of Disclosing other s Privacy
Privacy refers to the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information about
themselves and thereby reveal themselves selectively. The boundaries and content of what is
considered private differ among cultures and individuals, but share basic common themes. Privacy
related to anonymity, the wish to remain unnoticed or unidentified in the public realm. When
something is private to a person, it usually means being considered inherently special or personally
sensitive. The degree to which private information is exposed therefore depends on how the public
will receive this information. In addition, Privacy can be seen as an aspect of security, in which trade
offs between the interests of one group and another can become particularly clear.
Since netizens deem that their freedom of speech is valued over other s personal privacy, the
phenomenon of publicizing privacy prevails on the Internet. However, this behavior poses harmful
effects on the real society.
First, disclosure of personal privacy has a profound effect on victims and their surrounding people s
life. Some people deliberately post others personal information without their consents on open place,
such as forum and Facebook. This information may include embarrassing photos, address and phone
number. They will then suffer psychologically from daily harassment in real life. For example, the
victims would receive

1) How does Lizzie (Christina Ricci) describe her depression?
Lizzie describes her depression in various ways to herself and others. She says that she felt as if she
was, drowned by some kind of black wave. This wave overpowered her. Also, she talked about how
she was always exhausted when she woke up, because her mind was running wild all night; she had
clear sleep deprivation. She shows the depression symptom of suicidal thoughts when she says, I m in
more trouble than I m worth. With this, we can apply that she does not feel as though she is worth
anything in this life at this moment. Continuing, she describes her depression more so as I m falling
and I m dead [inside]. We can truly see the sadness that is inside her.
2) How do Lizzie s friends and family react to her depression?
Lizzie s friends and family reacted in various ways to her depression. The most common trend that
seemed to happen was that everyone wanted to help her, but they did not know how. One instant that
her friends helped her was when they brought her to therapy. But her friends abandoned her
throughout the movie, because they were worried and got upset with her behavior. Her mom was very
worried about her and cried a lot. However, her Mom did tell her that she didn t have to change herself
at all. All in all, the reactions ranged from isolation to supportive.

Review Of Ayn Rand s Anthem
Anthem: A Review Anthem written by Ayn Rand is a novella about Equality 7 2521 and the dystopian
society he lives in. Everything is decided by a World Council and doing anything that makes you stand
out is classified as crime, your individuality is seen as a great evil. It is a warning of how putting
others in front of yourself is a great evil. So, after all 105 pages, how good was Anthem exactly? Plot
(6/10): The plot of Anthem is quite simple, almost everything you have seen in a dystopian novel is
also portrayed in Anthem. What is unique about Anthem however, is how the plot is given to you.
Pronouns in Anthem are quite unique, replacing words like I or me to those that refer to the group ( we
or our ). This little change causes the story feel more unsettling, as it gives the reader a sense that no
one truly has a mind of their own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) Versus the Discounted Cash Flows Method
Managerial Analysis/BUSN 602
Capital asset pricing model or CAPM is a financial model that measures the risk premium inherent in
equity investments like common stocks while Discounted Cash Flow or DCF compares the cost of an
investment with the present value of future cash flows generated by the investment with the mindset
being that if the cash flow is positive, then the investment is good. Generally speaking, CAPM is a
model that describes the relationship between risk and expected return and DCF is a valuation method
used to estimate the attractiveness of an investment opportunity. So what are the differences,
advantages and disadvantages of each one? How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is focused on cash flow rather than accounting practices and allows for different components of a
company to be valued separately. Conversely, the biggest challenge of the DCF method is that the
determined value is only as accurate as the information it is given, that being the FCF, TV and
discount rates. In other words, if the information given to determine the DCF isn t accurate then the
fair value for the investment won t be accurate and the model won t be helpful when assessing stock
prices due to the inaccuracies. Furthermore, DCF is only good for long term values not short term
investing. The bottom line is that DCF is a rigorous valuation approach that can focus your mind on
the right issues, help you see the risk and help you separate winning stocks from losers and help
reduce uncertainty. (McClure, 2011) So, now that we ve looked at CAPM and DCF, what can we
conclude?
The CAPM is a single factor model because it based on the hypothesis that required rate of return can
be predicted using one factor that being systematic risk. It looks at risk and rates of returns, compares
then to the stock market providing a usable measure of risk to help investors determine what return
they will get for risking their money in an investment. There are a lot of assumptions and drawbacks
of CAPM that lead to the conclusion that those investors utilizing this

My car and my truck are complete opposites of each other on paper, but there are some similarities
they share. The truck is a blue 1974 Chevy C10, and the car is a red 1998 Chevy Cavalier. In my
opinion my car is safer, but the truck is cooler. I will be contrasting the body styles, the safety features,
and the technical differences. I will also be comparing the basic features. First of all, the body styles
are completely different. Well, the truck has a blue body with a body on frame type of construction. It
also has a two piece body, the cab and the bed. The car has a small, red, stream line body designed for
aerodynamics. It has a uni body design, meaning the body and the frame is one thing. body on frame
means that the body sits on the frame and is removable. Secondly, the safety features on the car are
vastly superior to the ones on the truck. The car has breaking points all over its body, so that in a
wreck it will be damaged worse to soften the impact. The truck just has a rigid steel body designed to
stay intact, while that s better for repairs, it s not better for injuries. My car also has airbags, anti lock

is remarkably safer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Princess Bride Analysis
In the film, The Princess Bride, the director Rob Reiner introduced many themes into the plot. A
significant theme in the film, The Princess Bride, is Intelligence . Had intelligence not have been a
contributing factor to the plot, there would be a completely different outcome at the end. Deception,
outwitting, outsmarting, all contribute to how the story ends. An excellent example of this is when
Westley and Vizzini had a battle of wit to win the princess, as Vizzini had kidnapped her. The shots
used were mostly close ups, as the two of them had no real power over the other. Westley was the one
leading the challenge. This involved Vizzini choosing which wine goblet had the iodine powder. Of
course, Westley had developed an immunity to iodine powder, so he had put iodine powder in both
goblets. Vizzini, thinking he was smart, continuously questioned which goblet it could be in, making it
look like he was stalling. He eventually picked one, drunk it, and thought he had won. He had not.
After Vizzini collapsed to the ground, Westley escorted Buttercup away and shared some of his tales
to her. These experiences he had experienced caused this Man in black to be almost terrifying to
Buttercup, as she had not known yet that he was in fact, Westley. Buttercup explains to him about her
lost love, and Westley simply mocks her. You mock my pain! She tells him, upset by his lack of
caring. He just replies, Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says different is selling something. He
says this with ease as he knows exactly her pain. Westley s speech pattern was very proper, and he was
quite knowledgeable in his many experiences. He knew about the terrors of the fire swamp, and
seemed to know lots of useful information to help him and Buttercup get away. He had experienced
many other situations that helped contribute to his vast knowledge. Having a high level of intelligence
also contributes to your authority over people. When Westley was climbing the mountain to get to
Inigo, a low shot was used showing that currently, Inigo had power. Another example, Prince
Humperdinck, being royal, had quite a bit of authority

The American Fur Company was a relentless monopoly operating in the climatic era of the fur trade. It
was established by John Jacob Astor in 1808. The company was created at a time that was favorable to
its expansion; it even grew to have a more powerful presence than the federal government over vast

Fur Industry s Effect on Society
The fur trading industry played a major role in the development of the United States and Canada for
more than 300 years. The fur trade began in the 1500 s as an exchange between Indians and
Europeans. The Indians traded furs for such goods as tools and weapons. Beaver fur, which was used
in Europe to make felt hats, became the most valuable of these furs. The fur trade prospered until the
mid 1800, when fur bearing animals became scarce and silk hats became more popular than felt hats
made with beaver. Traders and trappers explored much of North America in search of fur. They built
trading posts in the wilderness, and settlements grew up around many of these posts. Some of these
settlements later became such major cities as Detroit, New Orleans, and St. Louis in the United States;
and Edmonton, Montreal, Quebec, and Winnipeg in Canada.
Also as a result of the Fur trade, the beaver population depleted, Indian trappers became debilitated,
tribal cultures buckled under the pressure of new economic motives, tools and values. Consequently,
since production fell within an area, the traders moved and settlers moved in developing farms and
towns. The Indians in that area were either killed or moved by the government.

Military Status Protection Covers The Employment Rights Of...
Military status protection covers the employment rights of military veterans and reservists. The two
most important laws that protect the rights of veterans and reservists are the Vietnam Era
Readjustment Assistance Act (VERA) of 1974 and the Uniformed Service Employment and
Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) of 1994 (Mathis, Jackson, Valentine, Meglich, 2017). In this
paper we are going to focus on the most recent law that effect employers the USERRA.
Part One The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 is a Federal
law that establishes rights and responsibilities for uniformed service members and their civilian
employers. USERRA prohibits employers from making unfavorable action which would deny initial
employment, re employment, advancements, or benefits against individuals from the uniformed
services on account of their military service. USERRA also prohibits employers from discriminating
against past and current members of the uniformed services and applicants to the uniformed Services
(EGSR, n.d.). USERRA is a Federal law intended to ensure that upon their return from service,
individuals who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, National Guard, or other uniformed
Services will be free from discrimination in their place of employment as well as be able to retain their
prior employment and benefits. Typically to qualify for reemployment, the total length of the present

Hip Hop Significance
The Significance of Hip Hop: Speak Out
In the world today rap and hip hop is beneficial to society (Robinson, 2008). Throughout the past few
years artist use their music to express their views on life, opinions, and feelings. Some artist has lyrics
that a lot of people can relate to, some may or may not know what they are talking about because
either they have done the same things or is having the same issue (Akil, 2010). The world has freedom

There are many people amongst us today saying rap and hip hop music should not be allowed because
it gives off a negative feedback to our youth (Leach, 2008). Hip hop has grown all over the world
today on young and old; hip hop has reached its highest point now to this day, then ever before. There
is always question on why does hip hop grow or is hip hop growing because of violence. The answer
to that is no, maybe sometimes in songs the artist provokes violence, but never one time have the artist
or song physically forced anyone to do the violence that is being proclaimed in the song (Ibid).
We all know the artist by the name of Kevin Gates who is in prison to this day for selling drugs, and

The Is Flawed And Does Not Promote Truth Finding
Though there are positive aspects of the adversarial system, scholars argue that as it is practiced today,
the system is deeply flawed and does not promote truth finding. According to Keith Findley (2012),
Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and Co Director of the Wisconsin
Innocence Project, the criminal court system as of today seeks justice but does not seek the truth.
Findley asserts that the adversarial system disproportionally benefits the prosecution over the defense
(2012). This is due to the fact that though the prosecution and defense are supposed to be equal, they
are not. It is a fact that prosecutors are funded by the state and are able to gain access to evidence and
resources unlike criminal defense attorneys. In high profile cases it is known that the Prosecutor s
Office appoint their most skilled attorney to the case while it is known that indigent defendants aren t
able to afford highly experienced attorneys. As a result, the truth is not uncovered or the goal. Along
with this, in the case involving normal proceedings indigent defendants are often given public
defenders as legal representation. According to Ray Finkelstein (2011), a former Judge, the Public
Defenders Association is heavily burned with cases and they do not have the same resource and funds
as the Prosecutors Office. Therefore, public defenders are often over worked and have a high volume
of clients that they have to represent with little resources to assist in the

How Does Shakespeare Classify
Classifying is how we organize the world. One of the most important classifications is age. In As You
Like It by William Shakespeare the character Jacques claims there are seven ages of man. The first,
infant, is defined by mewling and puking. More defined characteristics appear in the next stage of
schoolboy when the person is attending school but whining. Next is the lover stage in which the
person is defined by infatuation. The next stage, soldier, is concerned with one thing in life: honor.
The next stage of life is the justice which is the wise stage of life Eventually the person becomes an
old man and their abilities decline until they enter the last stage of life: oblivion. In oblivion the person
ceases to exist. This classification ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My system is based off of personal experience and stages of mental development. The first stage is the
baby where the person is unable to develop physical skills let alone their own ideas. Then there s the
toddler in which the person becomes curious of their surroundings. The third stage is the education
stage in which the person is given the wisdom of their elders. Next is the discovery stage where the
person begins to disagree with elders and explore themselves. The exploration stage is the next stage
in life. In this stage the person has discovered their main beliefs and delve deeper into their self
exploration. The sixth stage is teacher; here wisdom of the person is passed to the younger
generations. Then is the reflection stage where one looks back on their life decisions until they enter
the last stage of life which is death. Death is the stage in life where the physical body ceases to exist.
There are several differences between my classification of life and Jacques. In my system I add new
stages: toddler and exploration and combine Jacques lover and soldier stages into the discovery stage.
I added these stages because I felt that important psychology moments occur during these time periods
which differentiate them from each other. I did not include gender specifications because this system
is one that everyone follows despite

How Does Global Warming Affect Humans
Humans Affecting Earth Global Warming is a big topic in today s world, and many people aren t
aware of the damages they are causing the planet. Global warming endangers our health, jeopardizes
our national security, and threatens our basic human needs. Some impacts such as record high
temperatures, rising seas, severe flooding and droughts are already becoming increasingly common.
Although some people do not think they are causing global warming; I am here to let them know that
the majority of global warming s causes falls in the lap of the human race. People cause global
warming every day by doing the many things they do daily. The main cause of global warming is the
pollution people are putting in the atmosphere every day. This pollution happens each day from people
driving cars, and the carbon dioxide that these cars put off. There are many ways to prevent this, and a
lot of scientists are starting to make people more aware with the research and the facts that they are
finding. Scientists are also starting to try to get people on their side by creating documentations to
present their facts and findings to the public. The National Center for Atmospheric Research said this,
Many people don t realize that we are committed right now to a significant amount of global warming
and sea level rise...the longer we wait to do something about it, the more change we will have.

Should Adopted Kids Know Who Their Biological Parents Are?
Whether adoptive children should know who their birth parents is something that is questioned too
much. Children should have the right to be able to know who their birth parents are if they choose to
do so. If children do not want to know who their birth parents are then they probably have a reason
behind it. Children who do not know who their birth parents are, should find out who they are so that
they can have contact with them. Some children are absolutely accurate that they do not want to know

Essay on Updike s Rabbit
Updike s Rabbit
As the gap between homo sapiens and their uncivilized ancestors widens, reproduction looses its value
as the most important means to continuing the species. For humanity to progress in an increasingly
modern and complex world, men must be required to think of themselves in broader terms. Rabbit
Angstrom cannot understand that he could find meaning in life if he devalued the importance he
places on sex. He is unable to accept the realities of life in twentieth century America and the role he
must accept. He runs from his responsibilities, despite the harm this causes many people. By not
accepting the changing nature of life for what it is, Rabbit s life is devoid of meaning. The message

Rabbit is representative of the harmful way many men behave. The fact that men do not have to carry
the child enabled Rabbit to distance himself from the possible outcome of sex. Instead of being
satisfied to love one woman, he acts upon outdated sexual urges which make him feel the need to
spread his genes. In truth, Rabbit was monstrously selfish, (didn t) care about right or wrong, (and)
worshiped nothing except his own worst instincts (134). The animalistic behavior Rabbit demonstrates
towards women, impedes social advancement because it enables men to distance themselves from sex
and devalue the role of family. Thus Updike uses Rabbit as a foil to show the reader how men should
not behave.
Updike creates a character in Rabbit which has the ability to be a productive member of society, but
tragically cannot put others on the same level as himself. He yearns for his childhood days, when he
was free of responsibility, and is jealous of children, even his son, for this reason (21). He is a former
high school basketball star who is well known throughout the county, and is told that he could inspire
faith in people (144). However, people do not look up to him because he does not try to use his
position to help other. He doesn t like to manage things, he likes to let things happen of themselves
(306). At his daughter s funeral, Rabbit said You all keep acting as if I (killed my daughter), I

Lena Dunham Women
In today s society, turning off has become nearly an impossible task. As beneficial as modern
technological advancements are, they have made our world fast paced and constantly interconnected.
Emails, Snapchats and tweets, just to name a few, are sent twenty four seven, making it a challenge for
people to shut out the world around them and take some time for themselves. Moreover, these
advancements contribute to society s push to say yes constantly; yes to opting to do more work, and
yes to responding to notifications immediately. Celebrity Lena Dunham, however, is protesting this
aspect of society. She has decided to make use of the word no more often in 2016, and encourages
women in the working world to do the same. Dunham explains that the cycle of working,
compromising relationships with others and continuing to work more has caused her to suffer greatly.
She feels that the need to always be in tune with the world pushes and pushes people until they,
essentially, crack. In hopes of resolving this, she is urging women to take their own happiness more
into account. Therefore, along with the use of the word no, Dunham raises the point that ... Show more

For forty days Jesus walked this Earth after being crucified and buried, locked in a tomb with an
enormous boulder. I have been tied to Jesus being the promised Messiah through my label as an
apostle. There is a large amount of evidence that proves Jesus is the Messiah and Lord of the universe.
The evidence is shown through the following facts: It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was
publicly exhibited as crucified! Does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by
your doing the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? (Probatio, 3:1 4:31). Jesus has
said that he will grant relief if you are a believer in Him. Those who do not obey or believe will suffer
punishment for eternity and will be sent away from his glorious throne. Those who believe in the
testament will have eternal life in the kingdom of Heaven. Second, Christ died for our sins, was
buried, rose again on the third day and appeared to Peter and then to the other twelve. Then he
appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most are still alive today, though others have
died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he

The Importance Of Communication As An Effective Communication
Directors it is important that it is done so in a formal manner. Any information that is given to them
must be based on factual evidence rather than just opinion. This means when making
recommendations, evidence needs to be given to support it, whether this be by including changes to
statutory, local authorities or governing bodies requirements for the running of the home. Evidence
may also be submitted in the form of a report formulated by myself, which would include different
research methodologies to support my findings. Communication is largely face to face, or via email.
Sales Representatives
Contact with sales representatives always warrants formal communication. This is because they are
often precursors to a business contract occurring. It is therefore important that communication is clear
and there is full understanding by both parties.

The Notion Of Purchasing Power Parity
A. Discuss the notion of purchasing power parity (PPP) (10 marks) 300 words
Purchasing power parity (PPP) was developed as the theory of exchange rate determination, which
was the basis for the relationship between product price levels and exchange rates and is now
primarily used to compare living standards across countries (CFA, 2015).
The foundation version of PPP was based on the assumption that identical goods should trade at the
same price across countries when valued in terms of a common currency. This is known as the law of
one price and derived from the no arbitrage assumption (Dornbush, 1985; Taylor and Taylor, 2004;
CFA, 2015). It means that a bundle of goods and services would cost the same in two countries when
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Absolute PPP is the extended version of the law of one price with all goods and services consumed in
different countries instead of one single good (CFA, 2015). Absolute PPP is expressed as ( ). The
absolute PPP asserts that the current spot rate is determined by the ratio of national price levels,
although like the one price theory struggles in actual application (Alba and Papell, 2007; Alessandria,
and Kaboski, 2011). An example of the average price for a Big Mac was $4.79 in January 2015 in the
US whereas at market exchange rate in China it was only $2.77, showing that China yuan is
undervalued compared to US dollar. This has reduced the Absolute PPP s usefulness as the theory of
exchange rate determination.
On the other hand, the Relative and Ex Ante PPP implies that exchanged rate between two countries is
affected by their inflation rates and expressed as (CFA, 2015). In the long run, the relative PPP
predicts that countries with a low inflation rate have currency s that tend to appreciate and conversely
with countries that have a high inflation rate; and the % change in exchange rate will equal the %
difference in national inflation rates (Baffes, 1991; Taylor and Taylor, 2004).
Although shot term, nominal exchange rates could be volatile but over the long run will tend to
gravitate toward PPP equilibrium values (Yotopoulos and Sawada, 2006; Papell and Prodan, 2006).
Hence PPP could be seen as a vale

The Power Of One Essay examples
Inclusion, not exclusion, is the key to survival. What does this mean? To say the least, the definition is
clearly stated in The Power of One, as well as Richard Wright s Black Boy. Actually, both these works
resemble each other by both having many types of isolation. Initially, P.K. in The Power of One and
Richard in Black Boy are isolated by members of their family. Subsequently, they are both excluded
by society because of their backgrounds. Ultimately, they are excluded within their own races because
of their actions throughout their stories.

territory. Therefore, both P.K. and Richard were both discriminated against because of their
backgrounds. P.K. was even whipped while hanging upside down! It s amazing that something like
that occurred.
Lastly, P.K. and Richard went through exclusion because of the way they acted. P.K. was a friend to
the blacks, which was very uncommon. P.K. even started a Saturday school so that they would be able
to read and teach throughout their tribes. Richard, on the other side, questioned everything. When
others would have to scurry out of the way for a white person, Richard questioned the act. When he
talked to white people, he didn t speak with the obedient respect that the others of his race did. This
added to the amount of exclusion Richard went through, the same with P.K.
To conclude, all this exclusion that Richard and P.K. experienced was somewhat similar. Although
there are many more similarities, these were just some of them. To go back to the quote, Inclusion, not
exclusion, is the key to survival. Well, many will argue that both Richard and P.K. survived. In fact,
they did. Richard became a successful writer and P.K. survived

Irony In The Summer Of My German Soldier
Question 1: In the novel, The Summer of My German Soldier, stereotypes play a key role on how the
townspeople standardize and classify others who are different. Black, White, Asian, German, or
Jewish doesn t matter what race, you can still be stereotyped. For example, an Asian man whom was
mistaken as Japanese, was stereotyped as a terrorists like person, because of the bombing on Pearl
Harbor. As a result, he and his family were ran out of town. Another example would be Anton Reiker,
a German Nazi prisoner who was stereotyped by the townspeople as a murderer. Because of Hitler and
the Nazi s cruel, and unusual actions towards certain people. Then there is Patty Bergen, a girl who
proves some Jewish stereotypes correct, she is a loud mouth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, the reader does not expect a German prisoner to befriend a young, Jewish girl during this
time. Give 3 examples of irony in The Summer of My German Soldier. Besides the obvious, a German
prisoner becoming friends with a young Jewish girl, there are still many other examples of irony.
Question 3: The ending of the novel, in my opinion, was very depressing and filled with tragedy.
Before Anton was killed, I felt that Patty and Anton had a liking for each other maybe even love. To
think that death ruined their chances at love and there only chance at happiness is really depressing
and sad. If I was the author, Bette Greene, I would have made the ending into something like a happily
ever after fairytale. It would begin on a Thursday and the FBI putting out a warrant for Anton and
Patty s arrest. Her parents and grandparents hear about it, and decide to hide and disguise them both.
Later on that day a female FBI agent knocked on their door, patty grandmother answered saying what
can I do you for . I m looking for Patty Bergen and Anton Reiker said the agent, but little she know
there was no more patty and Anton. They were now Rebecca and Jacob, the agent was convinced that
they were who they say they were. Eventually the warrant was dropped because they FBI got tired of
looking for them, and Rebecca and Jacob lived happily ever after in there secret hideout. Of course

EMDR Therapy
Developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in 1987 by accident, Eye Movement Desensitization and
Reprocessing (EMDR) is a set of eye movements guided by the therapist that help the patient process
and change their reaction to certain traumatic memories (Mayo Clinic). Unlike other forms of therapy,
EMDR does not require the patient to speak with the clinician about their distressing memories in
detail. EMDR is then more favorable for some patients since they can seek treatment from a therapist
for their trauma without having to feel uncomfortable by completely disclosing their disturbing
memories.
[When applying this type of therapy to treating a client with post traumatic stress disorder, EMDR is a
reasonable choice because... ]

For some patients with excessively traumatic experiences, the following preparation stage will last
longer than the 1 to 4 sessions that most patients take. In the preparation phase, the therapist has to
build a trustful relationship with the client in order to help establish appropriate expectations for the
patient during the treatment. Since EMDR therapy does not require the patient to completely confide
in the therapist her experiences, a therapeutic relationship between client and clinician is very
important. Otherwise, the following sessions and treatments would be misdiagnosed since the patient s
statements to the therapist may not be completely true. After they establish a connection, the theory,
procedures, and expectations of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is clarified
by the clinician to the patient. Also explained to the patient is the concept of Bilateral Stimulation
(BLS), oscillating eye movements, sounds, and sensations. BLS aids the left and

Spanish American War Causes
On April 1898, The United States declared war against Spain, an empire that was over 400 years old
(GLEIJESES, 2003, p 681) Many factors contributed to the Spanish American War, but in my opinion,
no single event is to blame for this war. Although many credit the destruction of the warship Maine as
the primary cause for this war it is important to mention several previous events that led to a gradual
accumulation of a war spirit in American society. Because of the U.S. intervention in Cuba and
winning the war, America became a superpower nation that owned a modern NAVY resembling the
UK and France. The primary cause that led to the Spanish American War was the public viewpoint
towards Spain and the attitudes toward the Cuban revolution that started in 1895 ( Spanish American
War The World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic Division, Library of Congress), 2011).
American citizens sympathized with the Cuban revolt against the medieval Spanish oppressor. The

Global Expansion During 1890 U.S. foreign policy was heavily influenced by Alfred T. Mahan who
wrote The Influence of Sea Power upon history, 1600 1783, which advocated the taking of the
Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, and the Philippine Islands to establish Naval bases to protect both U.S.
shores. More importantly, Mahan also promoted the building of a canal to enable fleet movement from
ocean to ocean which later led to the construction of the Panama Canal ( Spanish American War The
World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic Division, Library of Congress), 2011). With this
two expansion plans in mind, it is natural to see that Cuba would be best suited if it belonged to U.S.
territory. The geographic location of the island is placed as a gateway between the Gulf of Mexico,
and the Caribbean Sea, U.S. control of Cuba would allow safe passage of any ships to and from the

Theme Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War
The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War are two different short stories that heavily push
the themes of irony and suspense and although they may share these similarities I believe that they
also have many differences. Throughout this essay I am going to be breaking down these two stories
to find what sort of similarities and differences they contain. A similarity? They are both fictional
stories. A difference? One takes place in a Sci fi and futuristic setting, while the other takes place in a
more modern, or possibly older time frame.
Although two stories can have a similar overall genre, they may have a different and more specific
genre. A good example of this is the stories, The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War.
Both of these stories are works of fiction, none of the events that take place in either of them are real.
On closer inspection we realize that although they are both fiction, they are different types of fiction.
The Interlopers is a mystery. The story starts by explaining that in time past two neighboring families
went to court over they strip of land between them, to find out which family owned it. When they
court reached their decision and chose which family won, they losing family, frustrated that they didn
t get the land, started a rivalry that would last generations. They mystery? Who are they families and
why are they still fighting over this land, years and years later. The Machine that Won The War is a
work of Sci fi. It has

Factors And Impacts Of Urbanization
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1. Research Background
In both developed and developing countries of the world, urban centers have been an alternative
center for human settlement and hence, the rate of urbanization is increasing at the turn of this century.
Recent studies indicate that at the beginning of the twentieth century, only 10% of the world s
population lived in urban areas. However, currently, half of the world s population has become urban
dwellers (UNCHS, 2002). This shows that urbanization all over the world is expanding from time to
time and the change has vast implication on the living conditions of the urban society. Due to rapid
urbanization, the concentration of people especially, in cities and towns of developing countries
increasingly aggravated the problem of housing.
A large proportion of residents in cities and towns developed as well as developing countries are
tenants (UN HABITAT, 2003).Urbanization has been the dominant demographic trend in the entire
world during the last half century (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/289971629 accessed 30
November 2017). Demographic variables such as population size, growth rates, and growth levels
have major impacts on the demand for urban social and economic infrastructure (Girma, 2004).
The level of urbanization in the world as a whole was about 46.6 percent in 2000, 50.6 percent in 2010
and it is supposed to reach 57.2 percent in 2025. The corresponding figures for African countries are
36.0 percent,

When it comes to the culinary tourism in the USA, Maine comes atop the list of top foodie
destinations in our country. Maine s internationally renowned seafood dishes, pristine beaches and
small town charm appeals to most visitors. However, the recent scenario of Maine s tourism is seen
taking a new route. With the increasing popularity of wilderness camping options in Maine, the local
tourism is offering better scopes for avid wilderness entrepreneurs.
Maine s camping options include remote field campsites, primitive trailside campsites and even those
quaint lean to shelters and island camping. With close to 3.5 million acres of unspoiled wilderness, the

It has a very unique way of being made. It takes a person 3 days and 3 nights to watch the tamahagane
burn. Another unique fact is that it takes 15 people over the course of 6 months to make the sword.
Also, the Katana is unique because of the metal it uses. It is made out of one of the rarest metals in the
world which is tamahagane. The Katana is unique because of the mastery of making it. A person who
wants to be involved in making a Katana has to go through training and has to learn the proper steps
into making the sword perfect. This takes a lot of time to master. Also it is unique because it relates to
chemistry. In the video, it shows how a Katana is made out of different elements such as steel that is
made up of carbon and iron. Steel is also an alloy. Lastly, a Katana is unique because it shows how the

The Emperor s New Clothes By Hans Chrisitian Andersen
Growing up most of us were tucked into bed and our parents read us a story before going to sleep,
fairy tales in most cases. I personally remember hearing all about princess , dragons and cute mystical
creatures that always had a happy ending no matter how much they went though to get there. After
reading the fairy tales in our text book i initially thought they were a little too grusm and inapporpiate
for children but after analyzing them and thinking things through i concluded that fairy tales are more
appropiate for children rather than adults. I believe fairy tales are very benifical for kids because they
teach children right from wrong , help children build emotional resiliency and lastly they help them
develop critical thinking skills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story begins by introducing us to a vain and selfish emperor whose only intrest was wearing as
well as owing the best clothes. One day two swindlers visited the emperors palace ,these two
swindlers told everyone that they were weavers and that they could weave the most marvellous
clothing. Not only was there clothing beatiful and extrodinary but it was also unique. The clothing
made by these two weavers had the quality of being invinsable to anyone who was stupid . These two
weavers ordered the finest materials in order to descieve everyone in the palace and then secretly sold
them to get money. After the weavers began sewing the emperor sent his most loyal servants to check
up on them and although they did not see anything they lied and told the emperor that they saw
magical fabrics. At the end of the story the emperor decided to go ahead and see these magical fabrics
along with his servants but everyone there was too afraid to say that they saw nothing because they
feared being called stupid or unfit for their job. The emperor took all of his clothing off and the
conmen dressed him in the invisible clothing. No one said absoultly anything and stoof their admiring
the clothing until a little boy yelled out that the Emperor had no clothes on. This fairy tale teaches
children how to devlop the skill of critical thinking through the example it provides. The story teaches
children that they must come up with their own ideas and thoughts and not just go along with what
everyone else is saying because we fear being different or

Essay Military Women Should NOT Be Allowed in Combat...
There are growing feelings in the United States that, as women are having more rights given to them
that were previously restricted, women should be given everything that is offered to men. This is
becoming very true in the military, where much sentiment is that women should be given the
opportunity to serve in combat arms positions. Women are currently allowed to serve in combat
support positions, such as military intelligence and air support positions, but they are not allowed to
serve in positions such as infantry, armor, or field artillery. Many believe that it is time to open these
positions to women soldiers and allow them to serve in the front lines of combat. Although women are
currently allowed to serve in combat support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some counterparts also point out that many men may also be emotionally unstable in the rigors of
warfare, so keeping women out of combat positions for this reason is discriminating against women.
Overall, many feel that it is crippling to the idea of equality to not allow women to serve in any
position that they chose to in the military, and that women should be given the opportunity to prove
themselves able to do the job. Women should not be allowed to serve in combat arms positions
because many of them are not physically able to perform well in this capacity. It is a known fact that,
as a group, men are stronger than women. One of the primary reasons that women are barred from
combat arms positions is because their physical strength is inferior to that of men and rightfully so.
Combat arms positions requires great physical strength and endurance to perform a multitude of
physical tasks, including marching while carrying weapons and heavy gear, hours of physical training,
and lifting dead comrades during training exercises. Of course a combat arms soldier s duties are
endless, and most of them require much strength and endurance. According to the February 1999
edition of Reader s Digest, a US Navy study revealed that women possess half of the lifting power of
men. This report also says that women scoring in the top seven percent torso strength among women
scored in the bottom seven percent when compared to men (142). The torso is where most men in

  • 2. International Copyright Essay The idea that an author of a literary work has certain inalienable rights to his work has been an institution found on a national level in many countries for centuries. These rights have taken on different forms depending on the legal tradition of the country where it is applied. In systems with a common law tradition, based on utilitarian ideals, the rights were referred to as copyright. In systems that relied on a civil law tradition, based on philosophical thought and the basic idea of a moral and natural order, the rights became to be known as author s rights and later expanded to neighboring rights. Although these rights, and the laws that went along with them, developed in many countries around the same time in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These laws were upheld unchanged until 1957 when a new copyright act was passed (Goldstein, 9). Author s right is normally thought to correspond with natural rights, yet this wasn t the case until the late nineteenth century. This portion of the author s right tradition emerged from the idea that the personality of the author of a literary work is linked to the work itself. A theory that can be traced back to Otto von Gierke and Kant (Goldstein, 9). This lead to the separation of personal rights from economic rights in French law, where it was believed that an author s moral rights were more or less absolute. As the laws around author s right were being constructed and worked out in many different civil courts, there was new technology being developed that would challenge the very idea of authorship. These new technologies, such as photographs and motion pictures would give rise to the controversy between what was the product of a mechanical creation and what was the work of an artistic author. These debates would continue and the tradition of neighboring rights would emerge to provide protection for performances, sound recordings, and broadcasts. The main difference between author s right and neighboring rights is that the latter doesn t consider the protected works literary or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Tibetan Independence Essay The Question of Tibetan Independence China has occupied the Tibetan plateau with military force for over 50 years now. The legitimacy of Chinese claims to lawful control over Tibet is an extremely complicated issue, in many ways made more difficult by the unusual relationship Tibet maintained in relation to the international community before 1950. There are several competing considerations regarding Tibet s rightful status, each to be addressed in turn. A historical account is necessary to address claims that Tibet has always been an integral part of China, as well as to determine what formal arrangements have existed in the past and with what parties. Determining the status of Tibet in international law is a crucial step in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This supposed connection refers to a rather complex relationship that has evolved over a period of centuries. Though historically there certainly has been contact and some degree of connection between Tibet and China, this connection does not necessarily provide the basis for Chinese claims to lawful possession of Tibet. One fundamental issue when dealing with the legal status of Tibet is to first determine what the name Tibet refers to, which is in fact enormously controversial. The current Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) as designated by the PRC is not equivalent to the traditional Greater Tibet referred to by Tibetans. There are large groups of ethnically Tibetan people in the Qinghai, Sichuan, and Gansu provinces of China, separate from the TAR. These regions lay outside of what Melvyn Goldstein terms political Tibet , the central Tibetan areas administered as part of Tibet more or less continuously since the inception of unified Tibetan government. Tibetans in exile consider the eastern regions, which they know as Kham and Amdo to also be contained within Tibet . Goldstein dubs these areas ethnographic Tibet (Goldstein xi). The distinction between political and ethnographic Tibet creates confusion, much of it willful, in discussion of the historical relations between Tibet and China. For example, there are instances where the Chinese claim that they received governmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is up to the organization to find different ways, through which they can advertise the brand. The sports franchise I work for, wants me to find sponsors and the way those sponsors should advertise. Following is the information related to the current brand, which is sponsoring the company and three more brands which I have found for the franchise and the ways in which their logos are going to be advertised. Current Sponsors and how they are used The current sponsors, which the sports franchise has is Sky Sports; Sky Sports is a famous sports channel, where matches of different sports are shown. The current way in which the logo of Sky Sports is being displayed is through T shirts. Every athlete wears a shirt, on which the logo of Sky Sports is printed. As sports events are shown on national or international television, the logos are seen by everyone, who watches the sports event. Moreover, when athletes are called for interviews, they usually wear their sports jerseys, on which the logo of Star Sports is displayed, giving more exposure to the brand. First Sponsor The first brand which I would approach to sponsor the sports franchise is XBOX; XBOX has captured the attention of a vast audience, as it is fun for the children and the young. • 7. ##ciousness And Savagery In William Golding s Lord Of The... Lord of the Flies Civilized thoughts and morals are the outcome of a highly complex neural circuit producing chemicals such as serotonin located in the frontal lobe, temporal lobe, the parietal lobe and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex of the brain (Morality Work in the Brain). The mix of adrenaline and the inaccurate quantity of serotonin influences the respectable opinions of humans into vile feelings and actions (The Moral Brain). In agonizing and traumatic situations, the behavioral ethics of the person alter and savagery and barbarity occur. In most cases, humans changing their behavioral viewpoint does not occur in modern day civilization. On the other hand, it does appear in detailed novels. A prime example of this category is Lord of the Flies composed by William Golding. The author explicitly describes the evolution of the characters decivilization using precise imagery. In Chapter Eight of Golding s novel Lord of the Flies, the use of sensory imagery, diction, and dialogue exemplifies the viciousness and savagery in the horrid scene. Initially in Chapter Eight, the boys pursue a herd of pigs for nourishment on the island. The pigs are sensuously enjoying the shadows under the trees. There was no wind and they were unsuspicious (Golding Chapter Eight). Based on this phrase, the pigs in the novel symbolize the innocence that is embedded on the island because of their benevolent manner. Be that as it may, Jack s obsession revolving around ... The boundaries and content of what is considered private differ among cultures and individuals, but share basic common themes. Privacy related to anonymity, the wish to remain unnoticed or unidentified in the public realm. When something is private to a person, it usually means being considered inherently special or personally sensitive. The degree to which private information is exposed therefore depends on how the public will receive this information. In addition, Privacy can be seen as an aspect of security, in which trade offs between the interests of one group and another can become particularly clear. Since netizens deem that their freedom of speech is valued over other s personal privacy, the phenomenon of publicizing privacy prevails on the Internet. However, this behavior poses harmful effects on the real society. First, disclosure of personal privacy has a profound effect on victims and their surrounding people s life. Plot (6/10): The plot of Anthem is quite simple, almost everything you have seen in a dystopian novel is also portrayed in Anthem. Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) Versus the Discounted Cash Flows Method Managerial Analysis/BUSN 602 Capital asset pricing model or CAPM is a financial model that measures the risk premium inherent in equity investments like common stocks while Discounted Cash Flow or DCF compares the cost of an investment with the present value of future cash flows generated by the investment with the mindset being that if the cash flow is positive, then the investment is good. Generally speaking, CAPM is a model that describes the relationship between risk and expected return and DCF is a valuation method used to estimate the attractiveness of an investment opportunity. So what are the differences, advantages and disadvantages of each one? How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is focused on cash flow rather than accounting practices and allows for different components of a company to be valued separately. Conversely, the biggest challenge of the DCF method is that the determined value is only as accurate as the information it is given, that being the FCF, TV and discount rates. In other words, if the information given to determine the DCF isn t accurate then the fair value for the investment won t be accurate and the model won t be helpful when assessing stock prices due to the inaccuracies. Furthermore, DCF is only good for long term values not short term investing. The bottom line is that DCF is a rigorous valuation approach that can focus your mind on the right issues, help you see the risk and help you separate winning stocks from losers and help reduce uncertainty. (McClure, 2011) So, now that we ve looked at CAPM and DCF, what can we conclude? The CAPM is a single factor model because it based on the hypothesis that required rate of return can be predicted using one factor that being systematic risk. It looks at risk and rates of returns, compares then to the stock market providing a usable measure of risk to help investors determine what return they will get for risking their money in an investment. • 17. The Princess Bride Analysis In the film, The Princess Bride, the director Rob Reiner introduced many themes into the plot. A significant theme in the film, The Princess Bride, is Intelligence . Had intelligence not have been a contributing factor to the plot, there would be a completely different outcome at the end. Deception, outwitting, outsmarting, all contribute to how the story ends. An excellent example of this is when Westley and Vizzini had a battle of wit to win the princess, as Vizzini had kidnapped her. The shots used were mostly close ups, as the two of them had no real power over the other. Westley was the one leading the challenge. This involved Vizzini choosing which wine goblet had the iodine powder. Of course, Westley had developed an immunity to iodine powder, so he had put iodine powder in both goblets. Vizzini, thinking he was smart, continuously questioned which goblet it could be in, making it look like he was stalling. He eventually picked one, drunk it, and thought he had won. He had not. After Vizzini collapsed to the ground, Westley escorted Buttercup away and shared some of his tales to her. These experiences he had experienced caused this Man in black to be almost terrifying to Buttercup, as she had not known yet that he was in fact, Westley. Buttercup explains to him about her lost love, and Westley simply mocks her. You mock my pain! She tells him, upset by his lack of caring. He just replies, Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says different is selling something. He says this with ease as he knows exactly her pain. Westley s speech pattern was very proper, and he was quite knowledgeable in his many experiences. He knew about the terrors of the fire swamp, and seemed to know lots of useful information to help him and Buttercup get away. He had experienced many other situations that helped contribute to his vast knowledge. Having a high level of intelligence also contributes to your authority over people. When Westley was climbing the mountain to get to Inigo, a low shot was used showing that currently, Inigo had power. Another example, Prince Humperdinck, being royal, had quite a bit of authority ... Fur Industry s Effect on Society The fur trading industry played a major role in the development of the United States and Canada for more than 300 years. The fur trade began in the 1500 s as an exchange between Indians and Europeans. The Indians traded furs for such goods as tools and weapons. Beaver fur, which was used in Europe to make felt hats, became the most valuable of these furs. The fur trade prospered until the mid 1800, when fur bearing animals became scarce and silk hats became more popular than felt hats made with beaver. Traders and trappers explored much of North America in search of fur. They built trading posts in the wilderness, and settlements grew up around many of these posts. Some of these settlements later became such major cities as Detroit, New Orleans, and St. Louis in the United States; and Edmonton, Montreal, Quebec, and Winnipeg in Canada. Also as a result of the Fur trade, the beaver population depleted, Indian trappers became debilitated, tribal cultures buckled under the pressure of new economic motives, tools and values. Consequently, since production fell within an area, the traders moved and settlers moved in developing farms and towns. The Indians in that area were either killed or moved by the government. ... The Is Flawed And Does Not Promote Truth Finding Though there are positive aspects of the adversarial system, scholars argue that as it is practiced today, the system is deeply flawed and does not promote truth finding. According to Keith Findley (2012), Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and Co Director of the Wisconsin Innocence Project, the criminal court system as of today seeks justice but does not seek the truth. Findley asserts that the adversarial system disproportionally benefits the prosecution over the defense (2012). This is due to the fact that though the prosecution and defense are supposed to be equal, they are not. It is a fact that prosecutors are funded by the state and are able to gain access to evidence and resources unlike criminal defense attorneys. In high profile cases it is known that the Prosecutor s Office appoint their most skilled attorney to the case while it is known that indigent defendants aren t able to afford highly experienced attorneys. As a result, the truth is not uncovered or the goal. Along with this, in the case involving normal proceedings indigent defendants are often given public defenders as legal representation. According to Ray Finkelstein (2011), a former Judge, the Public Defenders Association is heavily burned with cases and they do not have the same resource and funds as the Prosecutors Office. In truth, Rabbit was monstrously selfish, (didn t) care about right or wrong, (and) worshiped nothing except his own worst instincts (134). The animalistic behavior Rabbit demonstrates towards women, impedes social advancement because it enables men to distance themselves from sex and devalue the role of family. This is known as the law of one price and derived from the no arbitrage assumption (Dornbush, 1985; Taylor and Taylor, 2004; CFA, 2015). It means that a bundle of goods and services would cost the same in two countries when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Absolute PPP is the extended version of the law of one price with all goods and services consumed in different countries instead of one single good (CFA, 2015). Absolute PPP is expressed as ( ). The absolute PPP asserts that the current spot rate is determined by the ratio of national price levels, although like the one price theory struggles in actual application (Alba and Papell, 2007; Alessandria, and Kaboski, 2011). An example of the average price for a Big Mac was $4.79 in January 2015 in the US whereas at market exchange rate in China it was only $2.77, showing that China yuan is undervalued compared to US dollar. This has reduced the Absolute PPP s usefulness as the theory of exchange rate determination. On the other hand, the Relative and Ex Ante PPP implies that exchanged rate between two countries is affected by their inflation rates and expressed as (CFA, 2015). In the long run, the relative PPP predicts that countries with a low inflation rate have currency s that tend to appreciate and conversely with countries that have a high inflation rate; and the % change in exchange rate will equal the % difference in national inflation rates (Baffes, 1991; Taylor and Taylor, 2004). Although shot term, nominal exchange rates could be volatile but over the long run will tend to gravitate toward PPP equilibrium values (Yotopoulos and Sawada, 2006; Papell and Prodan, 2006). Hence PPP could be seen as a vale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Power Of One Essay examples Inclusion, not exclusion, is the key to survival. What does this mean? To say the least, the definition is clearly stated in The Power of One, as well as Richard Wright s Black Boy. Actually, both these works resemble each other by both having many types of isolation. Initially, P.K. in The Power of One and Richard in Black Boy are isolated by members of their family. Subsequently, they are both excluded by society because of their backgrounds. Ultimately, they are excluded within their own races because of their actions throughout their stories. To begin with, Richard Wright and P.K. were both isolated by their families. He would be excluded from jobs with decent salaries, ability to live safely, rights to freedom. In Richard s time, it was horrible to be African American. For P.K., it wasn t much different. He was English, and the Afrikaners in his society hated him. The English took over and governed their territory. Therefore, both P.K. and Richard were both discriminated against because of their backgrounds. P.K. was even whipped while hanging upside down! It s amazing that something like that occurred. Lastly, P.K. and Richard went through exclusion because of the way they acted. P.K. was a friend to the blacks, which was very uncommon. P.K. even started a Saturday school so that they would be able to read and teach throughout their tribes. Richard, on the other side, questioned everything. When others would have to scurry out of the way for a white person, Richard questioned the act. When he talked to white people, he didn t speak with the obedient respect that the others of his race did. This added to the amount of exclusion Richard went through, the same with P.K. To conclude, all this exclusion that Richard and P.K. experienced was somewhat similar. Although there are many more similarities, these were just some of them. To go back to the quote, Inclusion, not exclusion, is the key to survival. Well, many will argue that both Richard and P.K. survived. In fact, they did. • 41. Irony In The Summer Of My German Soldier Question 1: In the novel, The Summer of My German Soldier, stereotypes play a key role on how the townspeople standardize and classify others who are different. Black, White, Asian, German, or Jewish doesn t matter what race, you can still be stereotyped. For example, an Asian man whom was mistaken as Japanese, was stereotyped as a terrorists like person, because of the bombing on Pearl Harbor. As a result, he and his family were ran out of town. Another example would be Anton Reiker, a German Nazi prisoner who was stereotyped by the townspeople as a murderer. Because of Hitler and the Nazi s cruel, and unusual actions towards certain people. Question 3: The ending of the novel, in my opinion, was very depressing and filled with tragedy. Before Anton was killed, I felt that Patty and Anton had a liking for each other maybe even love. To think that death ruined their chances at love and there only chance at happiness is really depressing and sad. If I was the author, Bette Greene, I would have made the ending into something like a happily ever after fairytale. It would begin on a Thursday and the FBI putting out a warrant for Anton and Patty s arrest. Her parents and grandparents hear about it, and decide to hide and disguise them both. Later on that day a female FBI agent knocked on their door, patty grandmother answered saying what can I do you for . I m looking for Patty Bergen and Anton Reiker said the agent, but little she know there was no more patty and Anton. • 43. Spanish American War Causes On April 1898, The United States declared war against Spain, an empire that was over 400 years old (GLEIJESES, 2003, p 681) Many factors contributed to the Spanish American War, but in my opinion, no single event is to blame for this war. Although many credit the destruction of the warship Maine as the primary cause for this war it is important to mention several previous events that led to a gradual accumulation of a war spirit in American society. Because of the U.S. intervention in Cuba and winning the war, America became a superpower nation that owned a modern NAVY resembling the UK and France. The primary cause that led to the Spanish American War was the public viewpoint towards Spain and the attitudes toward the Cuban revolution that started in 1895 ( Spanish American War The World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic Division, Library of Congress), 2011). American citizens sympathized with the Cuban revolt against the medieval Spanish oppressor. The Cuban rebels considered that if they sabotaged the sugar fields and destroyed vital ... Theme Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War are two different short stories that heavily push the themes of irony and suspense and although they may share these similarities I believe that they also have many differences. Throughout this essay I am going to be breaking down these two stories to find what sort of similarities and differences they contain. A similarity? They are both fictional stories. A difference? One takes place in a Sci fi and futuristic setting, while the other takes place in a more modern, or possibly older time frame. Although two stories can have a similar overall genre, they may have a different and more specific genre. A good example of this is the stories, The Interlopers and The Machine That Won The War. Both of these stories are works of fiction, none of the events that take place in either of them are real. On closer inspection we realize that although they are both fiction, they are different types of fiction. The Interlopers is a mystery. The story starts by explaining that in time past two neighboring families went to court over they strip of land between them, to find out which family owned it. When they court reached their decision and chose which family won, they losing family, frustrated that they didn t get the land, started a rivalry that would last generations. They mystery? • 45. Factors And Impacts Of Urbanization CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1. Research Background In both developed and developing countries of the world, urban centers have been an alternative center for human settlement and hence, the rate of urbanization is increasing at the turn of this century. Recent studies indicate that at the beginning of the twentieth century, only 10% of the world s population lived in urban areas. However, currently, half of the world s population has become urban dwellers (UNCHS, 2002). This shows that urbanization all over the world is expanding from time to time and the change has vast implication on the living conditions of the urban society. Due to rapid urbanization, the concentration of people especially, in cities and towns of developing countries increasingly aggravated the problem of housing. A large proportion of residents in cities and towns developed as well as developing countries are tenants (UN HABITAT, 2003).Urbanization has been the dominant demographic trend in the entire world during the last half century (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/289971629 accessed 30 November 2017). Demographic variables such as population size, growth rates, and growth levels have major impacts on the demand for urban social and economic infrastructure (Girma, 2004). The level of urbanization in the world as a whole was about 46.6 percent in 2000, 50.6 percent in 2010 and it is supposed to reach 57.2 percent in 2025. The corresponding figures for African countries are 36.0 percent, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are growing feelings in the United States that, as women are having more rights given to them that were previously restricted, women should be given everything that is offered to men. This is becoming very true in the military, where much sentiment is that women should be given the opportunity to serve in combat arms positions. Women are currently allowed to serve in combat support positions, such as military intelligence and air support positions, but they are not allowed to serve in positions such as infantry, armor, or field artillery. Some counterparts also point out that many men may also be emotionally unstable in the rigors of warfare, so keeping women out of combat positions for this reason is discriminating against women. Overall, many feel that it is crippling to the idea of equality to not allow women to serve in any position that they chose to in the military, and that women should be given the opportunity to prove themselves able to do the job. Women should not be allowed to serve in combat arms positions because many of them are not physically able to perform well in this capacity. It is a known fact that, as a group, men are stronger than women. One of the primary reasons that women are barred from combat arms positions is because their physical strength is inferior to that of men and rightfully so. Combat arms positions requires great physical strength and endurance to perform a multitude of physical tasks, including marching while carrying weapons and heavy gear, hours of physical training, and lifting dead comrades during training exercises. Of course a combat arms soldier s duties are endless, and most of them require much strength and endurance. According to the February 1999 edition of Reader s Digest, a US Navy study revealed that women possess half of the lifting power of men. This report also says that women scoring in the top seven percent torso strength among women scored in the bottom seven percent when compared to men (142). The torso is where most men in ...
