How Did Thucydides Contribute To The Peloponnesian War
Thucydides, an Athenian who lived during the Peloponnesian War (431 404 BC), may be one of the
earliest western war theorists thanks to his work, History of the Peloponnesian War. His history
described the conflict between ancient Athens and Sparta. In doing so, he authored one of the most
balanced and powerful explanations of the causes of war.
Thucydides, linked to the Athenian aristocracy, enjoyed a wealthy upbringing and education as a
youth. As an adult, he served as a commander for Athens. He witnessed a number speeches, debates,
and events or heard them second hand that decided the many courses the war would take. This all
bears out in the articulate, informed narrative of the war from tactical through strategic levels.
Surprisingly, Thucydides maintained an objective perspective through much of his history. One
assumes that as an Athenian, he would take a pro Athens approach. However, two reasons provide
balance and significance to his work. First, following the loss ... Show more content on

Ancient Greece consisted of many competing city states; the most powerful consisted of democratic
Athens and authoritarian Sparta. Each power made strategic decisions in different ways. The
Athenians set and adjusted the course of the war through open debate and voting while the Spartan
oligarchy under a king cast the final decisions. Additionally, each state s economic nature affected
their military character. The agrarian Sparta formed a dominant landpower while the seafaring
Athenians cultivated a powerful navy. Further, though a small theater of operations compared to
modern standards, time and space affected the course and nature of the war. Wind speed and sea
conditions limited throughput along lines of communication. Rigid Hellenic phalanxes encouraged set
piece battles. Annual growing seasons restricted when soldiers were able to fight and how far they

Biopsychosocial Interview Paper Sample
For this assignment, I chose to perform my interview on my roommate s boyfriend; Jose Sandoval. I
have been friends with him for about one year, the time that he has been dating my roommate. I have
to say that we get along very well, he often comes to hang out at our apartment and we have shared
some good times; the three of us together. To be honest, I thought I knew him pretty well up to this
point. Well, I was wrong. After completing the interview, I was able to learn so many new things about
his background, which I will happily share now for this assignment. This paper will transcribe his life
story with three major areas of focus. My first focus will revolve around his life before moving to the
United States. Secondly, I will describe his immigration process and lastly, the paper will also touch
on how his life progressed once living in the United States.
First and foremost, this section carries out a detailed interview on Jose s life before his arrival to the
United States of America. Where I discussed his family bond and focused on his growing up
environment and his biculturalism through playing Mexican and American games and the constant
migration and tourism that revolved around this city.
My interviewer made reference of having a strong bond among his family while growing up. His
family was composed by his father, mother and two older siblings; brother and sister, who always
treated him, like their own son. They spoke to each other in Spanish, did everything

Marketing Challenge At The 2013 Toronto s Intercamp...
Marketing Challenge This report will discuss the situation faced by Josh Howard as at October 2012
in regards to the 2013 Toronto s Intercamp Classic Annual Charity event. The marketing challenge is
to raise 25% more money during the 2013 event than the $125,000 raised in 2012 and amounts to a
donation goal of $156,250. The 2013 event is scheduled for May 5, 2013 and the kickoff campaign
launches in two months. Based on internal and external analysis, a comprehensive marketing plan that
addresses the product, placement, price, promotion and target market of the Intercamp Classic will be
developed to overcome the outlined marketing challenge.

In 2011, a female handball division was created and a male flag football division geared towards high
school students was added in 2012. While both expansions were met with impressive growth in size
and donations, a large portion of the Classic s human resources had to be devoted to accommodate the
expansions and time constraints that Howard currently faces could potentially limit future expansions.
Industry Analysis The trend of the increasing emphasis for businesses to be socially responsible
presents an opportunity for corporate sponsorships. These sponsorships can either supplement
donations made by participants or provide an alternative, more acceptable, source of financing for
marketing initiatives. Therefore, more funding can be allocated to the marketing budget which
increases the promotional alternatives Howard can utilise. Additionally, as a result of the same social
trend, companies sometimes offer discounts for not for profit organisations which further increases the
financial capabilities of the Classic in affording promotional materials.
Competitive Analysis Although Howard does not identify any specific competition, the Classic does
compete with other charity events. The competitive advantage that most charity events like the
Intercamp Classic have is that they operate a silent auction and raffle
Consumer Analysis The market can be segmented into three consumer groups: 16 to 30 year olds and
31 to 50 year olds who

Ostrom s Privatization Definition
Overall, Ostrom is critical of Hardin s approach in dealing with over exploited common resources
such privatization and government regulation. She is critical of the inflexibility of Hardin s model and
its pessimistic outlook for the future (Ostrom et al., 1999). Moreover, it has become evident that
common pool resources, such as overfishing, are difficult to address. Ostrom, argues that for the past
two decades the approaches taken to address common pool resources, many following Hardin s
model, have not been successful in addressing negative externalities and in some cases have induced
further damages (Ostrom,2008). One of the arguments Ostrom would make would be against
privatization and government regulation of fisheries. Ostrom, makes clear that privatization of open
access resources is often inefficient (Ostrom et al., 1999). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Privatization would address these issues on a broad scale with standard regulations that would not take
into consideration underlying conflict experienced by the poorer users of the common resource
(Ostrom et al., 1999). Instead, management of these resources should be site specific, where some
fishery communities would benefit from self organized monitoring and implementation (Ostrom et al.,
1999). For instance, the government intervention for northern cod in Canadian waters had a
disproportionate impact on local fishers, who established local rules, yet government intrusion caused
a collapse to the fishery market and outside fishers didn t suffer the consequences as heavily as the
locals, causing higher poverty rates and unemployment (Ostrom,

War Between Ethiopians and Eritreans Essay
War Between Ethiopians and Eritreans
On May 6th 1998, Ethiopian and Eritrean patrols engaged in an all out battle. While it may not have
been the shot heard round the world , it certainly was a shot the disrupted a previously peaceful
vicinity. It was also a shot that completely changed the Horn of Africa, and permanently disrupted
Ethiopian economy. It was also a shot that interrupted the young life of Benyam Berhe. Benyam Berhe
experienced this war in a way completely unique from anyone else in the United States, because he
lived it. America hasn t seen foreign troops on its soil since the war of 1812. Americans cannot
possibly relate to hearing mortar fire from our very own homes.

The Eritrean Nakfa is a hundred times more worthless than the Birr of Ethiopia. Yet the Eritrean
protested that the exchange rate should be one for one. When this movement was stopped suddenly
and concisely by the Ethiopian government, the Eritreans attempted to take some Ethiopian controlled
boarder land. This led to armed retaliation by the Ethiopian government and eventually led to an all
out war.
Benyam also said that the majority of the fighting was done within a matter of days. The Ethiopians
elected not to continue the fighting that could have led all the way to Asmara, (the capital of Eritrea).
America wanted the Ethiopians to stop however, and so they stopped any further invasion plans.
Benyam went on to say that a lot of the fighting was done by the vastly superior aircrafts on Ethiopia s
side, that they (Ethiopia) bombed quickly and efficiently. He went on to mention that while some
Eritreans were deported, they were mostly spies. Also that what was not reported was the fact that
many Ethiopians were tortured before they got released and deported from Eritrea. It seems that a lot
of the mainstream media, especially the BBC failed to report that. Benyam proved to be an invaluable
resource in his first hand experience with the Eritrean Ethiopian conflict and I referred to him often for
further information.

JD Salinger Criticism
JD Salinger s Criticism on American Society During the 1950 s, America was prospering after the
second World War. According to History.com, The United States was the world s strongest military
power. Its economy was booming, and the fruits of this prosperity new cars, suburban houses and
other consumer goods were available to more people than ever before (History.com Staff). More jobs
were becoming available, decreasing the unemployment rate. Despite having all the success, America
faced many problems as a country. One of the most popular novels of the time, The Cather In The Rye
written by JD Salinger, discussed the flaws in the society Americans had failed to realize. The book is
about a journey of a teen named Holden Caufield who was expelled from his school for failing most
of his courses. He leaves to New York early but waits at a hotel until the winter break, hoping his
parents will not get as angry as they would. During his time in New York, he drinks alcohol heavily to
soothe his depression. Later, he was sent to a mental institution to treat his depression and as a therapy,
Holden writes about his adventure in New York. Throughout the novel, J.D. Salinger criticized many
aspects of American Society specifically conformity and the oppression of teenage freedom in the
1950 s. J.D. Salinger strongly opposed conformity within the American society. During the 1950s,
Americans were following these norms of behaving in the same way as one another. For example,

I have been able to influence the behaviours of other especially in my home in order to achieve my

Women in The Duchess of Malfi and The Changeling Essay
The Duchess in John Webster s tragic play, The Duchess of Malfi, and Beatrice Joanna in Thomas
Middleton and William Rowley s The Changeling, are both strong women living in a male dominated
society. The two women attempt to free themselves from this subordination by choosing to love that
they desire. Both pay with their lives for this chance at freedom, but differ in their moral decisions
about how they attempt it. Beatrice Joanna s plan involves murder, whereas the widowed Duchess
merely lives the life she chooses, then plots to leave Malfi. Both women are forced into their actions,
but, whereas Beatrice Joanna is Machiavellian in her actions, the Duchess is morally superior. Webster
based his play on a real life 16th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is her brothers, Ferdinand and the Cardinal, who are murderous and immoral in their plot to save the
family reputation and inheritance. It is they who are consumed with aristocratic pride. It is their
sibling jealousy and male pride that causes them to kill the Duchess. From the onset of the play the
Duchess is described as noble and virtuous. Antonio says: Her days are practiced in such noble virtue
That sure her nights nay, more, her very sleeps Are more in heaven than other ladies schrifts (1.1.201).
She is sexually confident and outgoing, and views marriage as a positive, loving venture. On the
contrary, her brothers see marriage as a prison for women and a playhouse for men. The Cardinal
believes The marriage night/Is entrance into some prison (1.1.326), and Ferdinand views it as the
males time for sex when he says And those joys,/Those lustful pleasures, are like heavy sleeps/Which
do forerun man s mischief (1.1. 328). The Duchess defies society s view of marriage. She marries the
second time for love, but only after she has had an active sex life, and three children. Furthermore, it is
she who proposes to Antonio, and it is she who puts a ring on his finger. When he kneels before her,
she helps him up. Here marriage is not a contract where husband is superior to wife, but rather

Limitations of Population Growth
Introduction There are a number of factors that can contribute to the growth of a population and these
trends can be seen in a number of species. It is generally believed, from an ecological perspective, that
populations will display either an exponential of logistic growth rate. If optimal environments are
consistently maintained with no biotic or abiotic limiting factors (excess food, excess space
availability, optimum climactic environment, no predation, etc) then a population will grow in an
exponential direction. Species with high maximal relative growth rates do not occupy infertile habitats
because their physiologies are more sensitive to suboptimal habitats and so their relative growth rates
decrease more rapidly as fertility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bottles were marked for future reference. Ten large Daphnia magna were carefully placed n each bottle
along with a pinch of Spirulina (powdered algae). For the duration of the experiment, only the
supplemented group of Daphnia magna received food weekly, the unsupplemented did not. Spring
water was added periodically to the bottles when the water levels were below the line marked

illuminate the Daphnia and allowed them to be visible. The daphnia were placed in the designated lab
area that maintained at room temperature. The data for a total span of 8 weeks was pooled and

Results According to the data collected, the Daphnia magna population in neither the supplemented
treatment nor the unsupplemented treatment portrayed either the exponential or logistic growth model.
The supplemented group showed a steady decline in the population while the unsupplemented group
at first began with a significant drop off at first but then also became a steady decline. The week with

Sacco And Bartolomeo Vanzetti Analysis
On August 23, 1927, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed in one of the most iconic
and infamous trials in American history. Since that date, historians have argued on the attitudes
surrounding this case that gained global attention throughout the 1920s. Immediately following the
execution of these Italian anarchists, the liberal public expressed outrage and contempt for the verdict.
Felix Frankfurter, in 1927 wrote a piece entitled, The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti, which dug into the
injustices of the court. Frankfurter was appalled at how the justice system conducted the hearing. It is
suggested that the judicial system jumped to conclusions, with a complete disregard for any evidence.
Similarly. E.M. Morgan, an attorney of law, wrote an article for the Yale University Press, The Law of
Evidence: Some Proposals for its Reform, also in 1927. This piece scrutinized the lack of evidence,
the fabricated plots, and the mismatched witness testimonies that still ... Show more content on

The alleged innocence of Sacco and Vanzetti was heavily scrutinized by American conservatives since
the 1920s, though earlier critiques on the character of these suspects was primarily due to xenophobic
sentiments towards Italians following the mob and prohibition in the 1920s. The Cold War rekindled
feelings of uncertainty towards the Sacco and Vanzetti trial. With the American values of capitalism
and democracy under siege, fewer Americans sympathized with anarchists in the United States.
Although many did not dispute that the court case of Sacco and Vanzetti was mishandled, many still
vocalized that the court was just in its sentencing, since Americans likened the threat of communism
to other perceived domestic threats, namely anarchism in the United States. The 1950s and 1960s were
a period of mass hysteria surrounding alternate governing methods that did not involve a capitalist

Eisenstein And Vertov s Theory Of Conflict And...
Eisenstein and Vertov are two filmmakers/theorists that made films to illustrate and emphasize their
film theories. One of Eisenstein s theories is that film should have a dialectic approach to create
conflict. Furthermore, he states that conflict will spark active thinking in the spectator s mind. Another
theory from Eisenstein is the methods of montage. There are five methods, but the one he highlights
the most is the intellectual montage, which helps create an idea through juxtaposition to make the
audience think about the film and social issues. In comparison, one of Vertov s theories states that film
is like a medium of movement. Furthermore, he explains the movement is required to create montage
and bring shots together in harmony. Another theory from Vertov emphasizes the camera eye. He
explains how the camera can show the truths of the world better than the human eye. In summary,
Eisenstein demonstrates his theory of conflict and intellectual montage in October (1928) and The
Battleship Potemkin (1925). Plus, both films get the audience to think about life and society. In
comparison, Vertov displays his theories of movement to create montage and the importance of the
camera eye in The Man with the Movie Camera (1929) to illustrate the rhythms of everyday life and
show the power of the camera eye. To conclude, both Eisenstein and Vertov are able to effectively
display their theories in film. Eisenstein s theory about creating conflict between shots is explicitly

Robert Frost wrote Nothing Gold Can Stay in 1923. Frost wrote this poem out of fear that the world

Gene Expression Of Soybeans ( Glycine Max )
Gene Expression of Soybeans (Glycine max) in Response to Bacterial Inoculants, Rhizoboost,
Defensor and Rhizobium under abiotic Stress (heat condition) in Glycine max
Proposal by Noor Sairafi and Dr. Sue Hum Musser
Western Illinois University, Department of Biology
Abstract Several microorganisms have the ability to promote plant growth and produce compounds
which are known to stimulate plant defenses by inducing systemic resistance (ISR) in attacked plants
(1). Bacillus species are commonly used in formulating microbial fertilizers due to their rapid
beneficial effects in colonizing plant root and establishing Rhizobia bacteria mutualism inside their
root structure. In this paper research, I will observe this unique interaction by examining the gene
expression of soybeans (Glycine max) and their response to bio inoculants under a heat stress. I will
use four different treatments: control, Defensor, Rhizoboost, Defensor and Rhizobium, and
Rhizoboost and Rhizobium. Once the infected seeds germinate, I will incubate soybean seeds at 25 oC
and 37 oC for approximately 16 hours followed by grinding seeds for RNA purification. Gene
expression data will be then obtained and collected via qPCR analysis followed by microarray
analysis for more data confirmation. Additionally, a two way ANOVA and a Tukey s multiple
comparison test will be used to determine the significance of the data. This study will give us a good
idea on the effect of bacterial fertilizers (Defensor,

Holbrook s and Rose s perspectives on democracy is that some people are taking advantage of what
they have which isn t fair for the people who struggle to maintain their lifestyle with less, while other
people have more opportunities/privileges. Holbrook s response on democracy is that she feels that
they should have equal rights, just as she does. She finds it wrong that the government is careless
when it comes to the people that they think don t need the resources, supplies, when they really do. To
add on to, Holbrook writes on page 114, That same government that issues us two rolls per day, 94%
of the days since our last 6% cut. Two rolls. (Page 114). Holbrook says this to imply and emphasize
the fact that the government is stubborn and won t give more than two rolls per day which will. In
addition, Holbrook states, The same government that issues food stamps for kool aid, popsicles, and

Mexican American Racism
Mexican American (Chicano) first generation back in 1960 were not treated with respect. They were
mistreated and had to deal with racism. The school district did not offer them the same rights as any
other students, they did not give them classes to get ready for college. Thousands of students who
attended high school in Los Angeles were fed up of being treated like if they were less than anyone
else. They decided to take action and thirteenth students organized blowouts. Students started
walkouts because they were being mistreated and discriminate. They were not offered the same rights
as a white teenager. Also, they were not allowed to speak Spanish at any time during School hours.
Chicanos were dropping out of school and not graduating, only 1 out 4 students were graduating
because they were treated unequally. Mexican American students throughout the Southwest held a
60% high school dropout rate. If they did graduate, they averaged an 8th grade reading level. Due to
Anglo centric internal school policies, many Chicano students were fielded to vocational training or
classes for mentally disabled. The schools would not do anything to help them and made sure they
graduated high school. Not many Chicanos were going to college after high school because they were

It is defined as the use of a computer to gain unauthorized access to data in a system, but I tend to use
the term more generally. Hacking to me means to gain an advantage. Growing up around computers
and understanding their components, I can attribute my knowledge to the modernizing and re culturing
society. Yet, my developing skills have never come close to the horrendous acts of crime, treason, and
hatred that others developed on the computer. Real knowledge about technology is chilling. If parents
are to fear one thing now and in the future, it will be electronics, not because of the traditional skill
sets you lose, but because if society continues as it is we will never be able to deprive ourselves from
technology. The new skills many people will find, furnish, and develop will outweigh those that there
thought to be traditional. Do I suppose the world can change, to deviate from this path, no.
Technology is a drug, fear is its most welcomed ally. If a connected world is what society is striving
for, moderation should be sought after with a furious pace. Contrastingly, moderation genuinely hard
to achieve and so self consuming, society will often fail itself to remove its addiction. Contrastingly,
drugs can be repealed with determination and cause. This is the reality we as a society might face if

Comcast Case Study Essay
Introduction Within the telecommunications industry, everything ranging from television to internet
services continues to face evolving and transformational changes more often than other industries such
as services. It should come to no surprise given the advances in technologies across the globe, that an
industry that is heavily technological based should also follow suit. This allows for both old and new
organizations to tap in the growth of both the human and technological capital to bring about
revolutionary changes in the telecommunications world. For example, the introduction of fiber optics

thrive in today s highly competitive global economy. However, given this realization, the shareholder
should also be a little cautious, because Comcast still faces a number of obstacles that might impede
or compromise the growth of expected return when shareholders invest in their securities. As
mentioned before, there s a growing number of competitors that offer different, cheaper
telecommunication services that still uphold the consumer s expectations in regards of entertainment,
such as streamlining content from the internet and offering the consumer the choice of preferring
skinnier packages (cable/TV programming) at cheaper rates. These rising competitors will give
Comcast a run for their money as consumers will switch from the traditional cable outlets, such as
Comcast and Cox, in favor for a service such as Google or Sling. Another thing to take into account is
the uncertainty of the FCC s decisions at imposing stronger regulations in regards to broadband width

The Role Of Erosion And Weathering In The Painted Desert...
Have you ever wondered how landmarks like the The Tepees in the Painted Desert of Arizona came to
be? Erosion and weathering are the main culprits behind the creation of these unique and beautiful
attractions. The mechanical and chemical procedure that modify objects on Earth s surface over time
are called weathering. Erosion is the method of taking weathered material from one region to another.
Weathering is the breaking down of rock, soil, and minerals. Erosion is the development of being
eroded by wind, water, or other natural causes. Weathering is grinding out of man made or natural
landforms. Erosion is the weathering out of surface soil and rock worn way through natural causes like
water and wind for example.
Mechanical weathering is when physical procedures naturally breakdown rocks into reduced pieces.
Chemical weathering changes the materials that are part of a rock into new resources. Examples of
chemical weathering are water, acids, and oxidation. Water is important in chemical weathering
because, most substances dissolve in water and acids are also essential since they increase the rate of
chemical weathering even more. Lastly, oxidation which is when an addition of oxygen to a material
is applied it creates an oxide. Which is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Significance Of The Guillotine In A Tale Of Two Cities
Throughout Dickens A Tale of Two Cities, the guillotine is a persisting symbol of the French
Revolution. It represents the revolutionary violence through which humanity loses its religious
morality and a new, savage standard is created. By looking at the passage as a Student of Literature,
the revolutionists, straying from ethics and God, are depicted through religious allusions. A Historian
lens reveals Dickens condemnation of the bloodthirsty revolution that has normalized violence and
stripped the people of humanity.
Dickens contrasts Christian images and the guillotine to depict the revolution s immorality and
deviation from God s ideals. He emphasizes the power of the guillotine as the symbol of the
revolution, and how the revolution has overlooked its Christian values. Dickens describes the
guillotine as the sign of the regeneration of the human race, Revolutionists replace the cross with the
guillotine, and it is also worshiped where the cross isn t wanted. Throughout the novel, Dickens
emphasizes the idea of regeneration, or resurrection. He explains the guillotine has resurrected the
human race as new beings no longer bound by the cross. Jesus, represented by the cross, is also
resurrected, but the guillotine in the revolution overshadows him. A symbol of rebirth and morality,
Jesus, is surpassed by the symbol of death and destruction, the guillotine. Dickens also purposefully
names the main executioner Samson, sharing the name with the biblical figure Samson.

Comparing God And Jonah In The Book Of Jonah
In the book of Jonah we see the vast amount of tension between both God and Jonah. He is one of the
prophets who also believes in tolerance of non Jews opposite to Ezra s and Nehemiah s stress of an
unadulterated blood race of Jews under a restrictive Jewish God. Jonah is one of a vast line of
important people in the bible who argues with God. As you see in past books of the bible everyone has
stood their own against the Lord. Jonah though decides to try and run from God. The Lord called to
Jonah and said Arise, go to Ninevah, that great city, and cry against it, but Jonah flees to Joppa, setting
sail on a ship duty bound for Tarshish, assuming he can evade the Lord. Jonah views the Lord as sort

you could battle equally Jonah s, Ezra s and Nehemiah s because both bring valid reasoning to their

An automotive business is quite specialized and involves significant upfront capital required for

close down their business as it will not be easy to sell off an automobile facility and equipment to

Economies of scale and experience
These are important barriers of entry especially in current global automotive industry. In order to
achieve that, meaning an automobile company must have the ability to mass produce and sell a large
volume of cars to sell in order to breakeven. Established automotive leaders probably have an
advantage over a new entrant in achieving cost efficiency as they may have overcome this barrier
either through strategic partnerships or mergers as sharing of manufacturing facilities and technology

Emergence of China as the Leading Economic Power
The article chosen is an informative demonstration of how China has emerged as a leading economic
power. In just a few short years China has managed to position itself as a manufacturing leader in
many of the industries that are most heavily needed by the other nations throughout the world. How
China has done this is a remarkable story and provides a compelling reason for choosing an article
about their success as a topic for this paper. The article not only highlights China s success but also

China is utilizing its position as an emerging nation and the availability of inexpensive labor to
leverage itself against other competitors. As an example, for several decades the Japanese high speed

viable alternative and is not only actively building its own high speed train system connecting all the
major Chinese cities they are also aggressively pursuing business with other nations throughout the
world, including the United States, who are considering the building of a high speed train system. In

degradation of the value of one s life. In The Awakening, Kate Chopin implicitly conveys the sacrifice
Edna Pontellier makes in the life which provides insight of her character and attributions to her
awakening. She sacrificed her past of a lively and youthful life and compressed it to a domestic and
reserved lifestyle of housewife picturesque. However, she meets multiple acquaintances who help her

For example, Robert Lebrun, who gives her all the affection and attention she wants, makes her feel
and act like how she was before she was married. As a result, she starts to disregard her husband and
his commands. Such as in the event, when Mr. Pontellier commanded her to come inside the house
after a long night. However, Mrs. Pontellier disobeyed him and stayed outside. She would, through
habit, have yielded to his desire; not with any sense of submission or obedience to his compelling
wishes, but unthinkingly, as we walk, move, sit, stand, go through the daily treadmill of the life which
has been portioned out to us (Chopin 40). At this stage of Mrs. Pontellier greatly values the kind of
freedom she had before marriage. Her newly oppression towards her husband exhibits the defiance of
women towards men. Chopin meant to show Mrs. Pontellier as an outsider of society, in order to
spread the image of women, who can make their own decisions. After returning from vacation, Edna is
a changed woman. When her husband and children are gone, she moves out of the house and purses
her own ambitions. She starts painting and feeling happier. There were days when she was very happy
without knowing why. She was happy to be alive and breathing when her whole being seemed to be
one with the sunlight, the color, the odors, the luxuriant warmth of some perfect Southern day (Chopin
69). Her sacrifice greatly contributed to her disobedient actions.

The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald Essay
The Great Gatsby (2013), directed by Baz Luhrmann, is a contemporary construct of the original
novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The essence of this film is to portray the American Dream
as understood in the 1920 s. The film (as well as the novel) contains many themes that correlate to the
depiction of the story. The main notable themes that are embodied throughout the motion picture are
social class, love, wealth, isolation, and hope. Nick Carraway, whom the film is focalized,
communicates the elements of the setting and main characters. He portrays this through his personal
experience as an outsider to the wealthy world of the 1920 s, in which this motion picture takes place.
Nick Carraway is a young man who is seeking the achievement of the American Dream . The three
images that are included depict the main themes of the story as well as illustrate considerable meaning

Here comes the end of this semester, and I really want to reflect on my overall performance through
this course and set goals for future. In the past three months, I feel like I have accomplished a lot not
only as a student but also as a speaker. From all the speeches I did this semester including Grab Bag
Speech, My Path Interview, Career Path Presentation, Rhetorical Analysis Activity, Pitch Speech,
Story Podcasts, and two impromptu speeches, I learned a lot of speaking skills and showed a big
progress. In addition, Professor Khalil taught me a very important thing which is knowing people

performance not only in the IDEA Speech but also throughout the course. First of all, I would like to
analyze my results from the PRCA survey. My overall score is 46, which represents a low
communication apprehension. Compared to the result of my first survey which was 56, I thought I
improved a lot. My anxiety and nervous reduced a lot in the IDEA Speech, and I felt very confidence
while speaking. I think these improvements show that I prepared well, know my audience well, and
paid attention to the presentation skills. I know that I spent a long time preparing each speech before

How Starbucks Has Changed Our Lives
INTRODUCTION Starbucks has reinvented itself numerous times over the past 40 years and
continues to experience substantial growth and contractions. They started as a small company, with its
first location in Seattle s historic Pike Place Market in 1971, and today, there are more than 21,000
stores in 66 countries. They have grown from not only selling coffee, but also offer a wide selection of
teas, specialty drinks, pastries and an assortment of sandwiches for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They
have also diversified their product offerings to include a wider variety of coffee beans, drink ware, and
equipment to make coffee or tea at home.
MISSION
In keeping with its mission, to inspire and nurture the human spirit one person, one cup and one
neighborhood at a time, Starbucks is known for gourmet blends, excellent customer service, and a
warm, welcoming atmosphere. It is a trendy coffee house designed to attract and keep customers
happy, whether it s a student studying for an exam, meeting with a business associate or simply
meeting up with friends for a quick coffee break.
Howard Schultz initially joined Starbucks in 1982 as the Director of Operations and Marketing when
only four stores were established. He left the company in 1987 to pursue his own initiatives and
returned in 1987. With the assistance of local investors, purchased the entire company and currently
serves as the president and CEO of a globally branded company.

How Did Thucydides Contribute To The Peloponnesian War Thucydides, an Athenian who lived during the Peloponnesian War (431 404 BC), may be one of the earliest western war theorists thanks to his work, History of the Peloponnesian War. His history described the conflict between ancient Athens and Sparta. In doing so, he authored one of the most balanced and powerful explanations of the causes of war. Thucydides, linked to the Athenian aristocracy, enjoyed a wealthy upbringing and education as a youth. As an adult, he served as a commander for Athens. He witnessed a number speeches, debates, and events or heard them second hand that decided the many courses the war would take. This all bears out in the articulate, informed narrative of the war from tactical through strategic levels. Surprisingly, Thucydides maintained an objective perspective through much of his history. One assumes that as an Athenian, he would take a pro Athens approach. However, two reasons provide balance and significance to his work. First, following the loss ... Each power made strategic decisions in different ways. The Athenians set and adjusted the course of the war through open debate and voting while the Spartan oligarchy under a king cast the final decisions. Additionally, each state s economic nature affected their military character. The agrarian Sparta formed a dominant landpower while the seafaring Athenians cultivated a powerful navy. Further, though a small theater of operations compared to modern standards, time and space affected the course and nature of the war. Wind speed and sea conditions limited throughput along lines of communication. Rigid Hellenic phalanxes encouraged set piece battles. • 3. Biopsychosocial Interview Paper Sample For this assignment, I chose to perform my interview on my roommate s boyfriend; Jose Sandoval. I have been friends with him for about one year, the time that he has been dating my roommate. I have to say that we get along very well, he often comes to hang out at our apartment and we have shared some good times; the three of us together. To be honest, I thought I knew him pretty well up to this point. Well, I was wrong. After completing the interview, I was able to learn so many new things about his background, which I will happily share now for this assignment. This paper will transcribe his life story with three major areas of focus. My first focus will revolve around his life before moving to the United States. Secondly, I will describe his immigration process and lastly, the paper will also touch on how his life progressed once living in the United States. First and foremost, this section carries out a detailed interview on Jose s life before his arrival to the United States of America. Where I discussed his family bond and focused on his growing up environment and his biculturalism through playing Mexican and American games and the constant migration and tourism that revolved around this city. My interviewer made reference of having a strong bond among his family while growing up. His family was composed by his father, mother and two older siblings; brother and sister, who always treated him, like their own son. They spoke to each other in Spanish, did everything ... In 2011, a female handball division was created and a male flag football division geared towards high school students was added in 2012. While both expansions were met with impressive growth in size and donations, a large portion of the Classic s human resources had to be devoted to accommodate the expansions and time constraints that Howard currently faces could potentially limit future expansions. Industry Analysis The trend of the increasing emphasis for businesses to be socially responsible presents an opportunity for corporate sponsorships. These sponsorships can either supplement donations made by participants or provide an alternative, more acceptable, source of financing for marketing initiatives. Therefore, more funding can be allocated to the marketing budget which increases the promotional alternatives Howard can utilise. Additionally, as a result of the same social trend, companies sometimes offer discounts for not for profit organisations which further increases the financial capabilities of the Classic in affording promotional materials. Competitive Analysis Although Howard does not identify any specific competition, the Classic does compete with other charity events. The competitive advantage that most charity events like the Intercamp Classic have is that they operate a silent auction and raffle Consumer Analysis The market can be segmented into three consumer groups: 16 to 30 year olds and 31 to 50 year olds who ... • 5. Ostrom s Privatization Definition Overall, Ostrom is critical of Hardin s approach in dealing with over exploited common resources such privatization and government regulation. She is critical of the inflexibility of Hardin s model and its pessimistic outlook for the future (Ostrom et al., 1999). Moreover, it has become evident that common pool resources, such as overfishing, are difficult to address. Ostrom, argues that for the past two decades the approaches taken to address common pool resources, many following Hardin s model, have not been successful in addressing negative externalities and in some cases have induced further damages (Ostrom,2008). One of the arguments Ostrom would make would be against privatization and government regulation of fisheries. For instance, the government intervention for northern cod in Canadian waters had a disproportionate impact on local fishers, who established local rules, yet government intrusion caused a collapse to the fishery market and outside fishers didn t suffer the consequences as heavily as the locals, causing higher poverty rates and unemployment (Ostrom, ... This led to armed retaliation by the Ethiopian government and eventually led to an all out war. Benyam also said that the majority of the fighting was done within a matter of days. The Ethiopians elected not to continue the fighting that could have led all the way to Asmara, (the capital of Eritrea). America wanted the Ethiopians to stop however, and so they stopped any further invasion plans. Benyam went on to say that a lot of the fighting was done by the vastly superior aircrafts on Ethiopia s side, that they (Ethiopia) bombed quickly and efficiently. He went on to mention that while some Eritreans were deported, they were mostly spies. Also that what was not reported was the fact that many Ethiopians were tortured before they got released and deported from Eritrea. Its economy was booming, and the fruits of this prosperity new cars, suburban houses and other consumer goods were available to more people than ever before (History.com Staff). More jobs were becoming available, decreasing the unemployment rate. Despite having all the success, America faced many problems as a country. He leaves to New York early but waits at a hotel until the winter break, hoping his parents will not get as angry as they would. During his time in New York, he drinks alcohol heavily to soothe his depression. Later, he was sent to a mental institution to treat his depression and as a therapy, Holden writes about his adventure in New York. Throughout the novel, J.D. Salinger criticized many aspects of American Society specifically conformity and the oppression of teenage freedom in the 1950 s. J.D. Both pay with their lives for this chance at freedom, but differ in their moral decisions about how they attempt it. It is generally believed, from an ecological perspective, that populations will display either an exponential of logistic growth rate. If optimal environments are consistently maintained with no biotic or abiotic limiting factors (excess food, excess space availability, optimum climactic environment, no predation, etc) then a population will grow in an exponential direction. Since that date, historians have argued on the attitudes surrounding this case that gained global attention throughout the 1920s. Immediately following the execution of these Italian anarchists, the liberal public expressed outrage and contempt for the verdict. Felix Frankfurter, in 1927 wrote a piece entitled, The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti, which dug into the injustices of the court. Frankfurter was appalled at how the justice system conducted the hearing. It is suggested that the judicial system jumped to conclusions, with a complete disregard for any evidence. Similarly. E.M. One of Eisenstein s theories is that film should have a dialectic approach to create conflict. Furthermore, he states that conflict will spark active thinking in the spectator s mind. Another theory from Eisenstein is the methods of montage. There are five methods, but the one he highlights the most is the intellectual montage, which helps create an idea through juxtaposition to make the audience think about the film and social issues. In comparison, one of Vertov s theories states that film is like a medium of movement. Furthermore, he explains the movement is required to create montage and bring shots together in harmony. Another theory from Vertov emphasizes the camera eye. He explains how the camera can show the truths of the world better than the human eye. In summary, Eisenstein demonstrates his theory of conflict and intellectual montage in October (1928) and The Battleship Potemkin (1925). Plus, both films get the audience to think about life and society. In comparison, Vertov displays his theories of movement to create montage and the importance of the camera eye in The Man with the Movie Camera (1929) to illustrate the rhythms of everyday life and show the power of the camera eye. Bacillus species are commonly used in formulating microbial fertilizers due to their rapid beneficial effects in colonizing plant root and establishing Rhizobia bacteria mutualism inside their root structure. In this paper research, I will observe this unique interaction by examining the gene expression of soybeans (Glycine max) and their response to bio inoculants under a heat stress. I will use four different treatments: control, Defensor, Rhizoboost, Defensor and Rhizobium, and Rhizoboost and Rhizobium. Once the infected seeds germinate, I will incubate soybean seeds at 25 oC and 37 oC for approximately 16 hours followed by grinding seeds for RNA purification. Gene expression data will be then obtained and collected via qPCR analysis followed by microarray analysis for more data confirmation. Erosion and weathering are the main culprits behind the creation of these unique and beautiful attractions. The mechanical and chemical procedure that modify objects on Earth s surface over time are called weathering. Erosion is the method of taking weathered material from one region to another. Weathering is the breaking down of rock, soil, and minerals. Erosion is the development of being eroded by wind, water, or other natural causes. Weathering is grinding out of man made or natural landforms. Erosion is the weathering out of surface soil and rock worn way through natural causes like water and wind for example. Mechanical weathering is when physical procedures naturally breakdown rocks into reduced pieces. Chemical weathering changes the materials that are part of a rock into new resources. Examples of chemical weathering are water, acids, and oxidation. • 24. Significance Of The Guillotine In A Tale Of Two Cities Throughout Dickens A Tale of Two Cities, the guillotine is a persisting symbol of the French Revolution. It represents the revolutionary violence through which humanity loses its religious morality and a new, savage standard is created. By looking at the passage as a Student of Literature, the revolutionists, straying from ethics and God, are depicted through religious allusions. A Historian lens reveals Dickens condemnation of the bloodthirsty revolution that has normalized violence and stripped the people of humanity. Dickens contrasts Christian images and the guillotine to depict the revolution s immorality and deviation from God s ideals.
