The Foreign And Security Policy
To achieve an ever closer Union members of the European Union had to relinquish certain governance
authorities to the Supranational Institutions of the European Unions. The accumulation of power in
governance by the EU institutions over the past 50 years have shown that member states are willing to
empower the Institutions in regards to their economic policies and social policies which had profound
impact on the lives of the European citizens and raised their living standards dramatically. In order to
maintain this progressive trajectory a cohesive foreign policy initiative was seen necessary. Major
European member states were reluctant in giving up their sovereign right of making their foreign
policies to the supranational institutions of the European Union. Therefore, a forum in which EU
countries would come together to discuss and cohere their foreign policies was deemed necessary. As
result, the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) was initiated to fulfill the desired role. The
Common Foreign and Security policy have many weaknesses, which can have significant affect on the
direction of future integration in its realm.
The Maastricht Treaty established the Common Foreign And Security Policy (CFSP) to replace
European Political Cooperation (EPC). The CFSP was one of the pillars of the European Union Until
the Treaty of Lisbon changed the pillar systems. The main area of operation for CFSP is defense,
security, and external affairs. The main objective of the forum

My Life Would Suck Without You Rhetorical Devices
My Life Would Suck Without You is a catchy, upbeat, and fast tempo song. Baylee Baxter and I have
grown up together since we were two. We were neighbors in the neighborhood behind the high school.
We spent every single day, it seemed like, together playing games, watching movies, or riding bikes.
No matter what the weather was, what time it was, or who we were with; we always found fun things
to do. One of our favorite things to do together was to sing and dance. We were constantly making up
dances to songs that were on, movies or that we heard on the radio. We knew every word of every
Disney song. As we grew up, one of our favorite shows to watch together was Glee. In the show Glee,
the McKinley High glee club performed the song My Life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were sisters. The refrain, My life would suck without you related to us like no other. Without each
other, we wouldn t be the same person. We kept each other s biggest secrets. We have been there for
each other through it all. Another line says, you ve got a piece of me . Baylee and I have a piece of
each other. We were always two parts to one whole, that was how close we were. No matter how hard
someone tried, there was no separating us. Ever since the day, we watch Finn and Rachel perform My
Life Would Suck Without You we fell in love with the song. We would have concerts in our basements
where we belted out the lyrics and danced. On every car ride, we begged our parents to play Kelly
Clarkson so that we could jam out. This was our friendship anthem. To this day, if Baylee and I hear
this song together we serenade each other with this memorable song. Honestly, yes, I got tired of
hanging out with Baylee 24/7 but nobody will ever be able to replace the friendship that we had. We
helped each other get through the hardest times in our lives. Without each other, we wouldn t be the
same people we are today. Once we became caught up in boys and extracurriculars, we started to drift
away. We are still close and would do anything for each other. I am eternally grateful for Baylee s
friendship. My life would truly suck without

Skydiving Physics
Just because the air s invisible, doesn t mean it s not there. The terminal velocity is when a body is

If you were to spread all of your limbs out, it causes a much greater surface area, causing more air to
collide with your stomach, slowing you down.As for parachutes, it needs to cover a wide enough
surface area in order to cause enough air resistance to slow the mass down dramatically, that s why a
huge snap up occurs when you release your parachute, the huge amount of added air resistance at one
time causes such a dramatic slow down. But! Circular parachutes need a small hole at the tip in order
to prevent a flip around. Air doesn t want to be resisted, so it tries its best to cause the smoothest path
possible, even if it needs to flip that parachute. So,

Lgbt Rights In High Schools
LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual) laws in the United States have been a hot topic for the
past few years. The United States struggle to find a median to establish rules for LGBTQ individuals.
Schools especially endeavor whether to allow LGBT rights to pass or to deny specific rights. Senator
James Lankford states, No school wants any student to be bullied or discriminated against, but the
Department of Education does not have the authority to operate as a national school board and impose
their specific solutions on every district. This could lead to angry boycotts and violence between
numerous LGBT advocate groups and opposition groups. The feud between LGBT advocate groups,

school counselors to utilize for social justice advocacy for LGBT students (Bidell). Findings showed
that schools with GSA clubs could diminish absenteeism, exaggerate LGBT school safety, and lower

How Junk Food Can End Obesity By David Freedman Summary
David Freedman s article titled How Junk Food Can End Obesity is relevant since we first read the
title. It even sounds satirical or sarcastic, but it encourages the average reader, as well as provokes the
counterparts that would not even imagine nor tolerate the approach Freedman is taking. This article
mainly focuses on criticizing the relatively new wholesome food movement, discrediting many of its
preachers and followers. Freedman s discussion attacks the wholesome activists. He affirms the
excessive pressure these foodies are generating to the enactment of regulations and the demonization
of every processed food, has in some way, harmed the large companies that have been trying to
implement measures to reduce calories. Freedman also claims that is selfish and fantastic to think a
wholesome diet is going to fit the average American, that has a busy schedule, a low to medium
income, limited access to fresh farm markets, and a taste acquired culturally and biologically towards
high fat foods, carbohydrates, sugars, and salts. The panorama of obesity in ... Show more content on

The Third Bank Of The River By Roger Rosenblatt
Journey means to travel, to start at one point and move on to another. It was clearly demonstrated in
The Children of Cambodia, an essay by Roger Rosenblatt. It takes place in 1983 where he interviewed
Cambodia children after the reign of Pol Pot. Pol Pot was the leader of Cambodia during the 1970s
and he led 1.5 million Cambodians into death of starvation, execution, or being overworked. In
another topic of journey, The Third Bank of the River, written by J.G. Rosa, is about a father who
abandons his family by traveling away on a canoe for years without reason. Finally, Cathedral is a
story written by Ray Carver in which a judgmental man lets his wife s blind friend spend the night at
their house and things turn out unexpectedly. The main resolution these three pieces of writing have in
common is that at least one character undergoes a journey. In deeper detail, journey can be from
realizing things about life or oneself, aging from adolescence into adulthood, or moving on. These
three stories portray journey in different ways.
In The Third Bank of the River, journey is shown by the family. The importance of the father going
into complete isolation represents the effects he has on his peers. There is an opposite effect from this
story because the father s abandonment left a prominent mark on the family and their future. From an
outside perspective, some may assume that the father would be the one who s miserable and empty,
yet this story carries out the reverse

The phenomena of global warming are the main factors that lead to the world climate change. The

global warming is, increased a greenhouse gaseous emissions, higher atmospheric temperatures,
intense precipitation, and increased indoor discomfort. The environmental problem and pollution is

Deforestation is believed to be another major cause of global warming. The cutting and burning of
about 34 million acres of trees each year resulted in an increase of 25% carbon dioxide entering the

areas and has produced many negative environmental impacts to society. One of the effects is an urban
heat island phenomenon in which the temperature in urban areas is higher than the surrounding area.
Climate change not only gives impact to the environment but also to the natural heating and cooling
processes of buildings. The warmer outside temperature will affect the indoor temperature and thermal
comfort of buildings. When the outdoor air temperature increases, buildings will experience indoor
discomfort and this situation will lead to a higher demand for mechanical ventilation and increased
energy consumption in buildings. Various studies have shown that passive and low energy cooling are
the most preferred techniques used to minimise the solar load and conductive daytime heat gain

Essay on Spirituality in Song of Solomon
Inclusive Spirituality in Song of Solomon
When slaves were brought to America they were taken from all they had known and forced to live in a
land of dark irony that, while promising life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, provided them with
only misery. In a situation such as the one in which the slaves found themselves, many people would
rely on their religion to help them survive. But would slaves be able to find spiritual comfort within
the parameters of a religion that had been passed on to them from the slaveholders? In Toni Morrison s
Song of Solomon, African Americans struggle to find a spirituality that is responsive to their needs
and that encompasses their experiences in a way that the religion of the dominant ... Show more

Perhaps more than even giving the reader a clue about what is to come, Morrison gives readers this
scene in an attempt to pique interest in the meaning of words. Perhaps Morrison is showing readers
that just because a word has meant one thing in the past, it is not precluded from taking on other
meanings as well. For the readers of Song, that is exactly what happens.
In Morrison s story, the name Pilate loses its original meaning of Christ killer and gains the meaning
of one who has control of the direction of her life. Pilate is a seeker. She asks, What do I need to know
to stay alive? and What is true in the world? (149). Dominant culture might only need to ask about
truth. Minority culture asks about survival. Because of her gift for penetrating to the heart of her own
experience, Pilate becomes a person who can guide others.
The most prominent of all the uses of biblical names in the story is the title itself, Song of Solomon.
Throughout the novel, a non minority reader, recalling the biblical Song of Songs or Song of Solomon
as the title is often translated in English Bibles, has the image before them of sensual love poetry.
However, a reader who, because of the title, is expecting a sensual love story will be wondering how

Raising Tuition Rates
Raising Tuition Rates Tuition rates have been rising exponentially since World War II and the GI
Bill... which allowed for, ...an explosive increase in the number and proportion of Americans who go
to college (Nathan 148). This change, though largely due to inflation, has been rising past what
families can afford to pay, and has led to difficulties for students exiting high school. These difficulties
have been seen by campuses, and many already have a plan to help these students pay for the
rocketing tuition prices. This escalating problem has been caused by multiple entities, individuals, and
ideals. Firstly, between 1985 and 1995, the federal and state funding has decreased by almost twenty
five percent, and since then has decreased to account for only fifty percent of the public university s
budget, as more of the government s money has been allotted to the needs of the country s healthcare,
welfare, and prisons. Also, universities have increased the percentage of their budgets allocated to
administration roles, mostly in an attempt to influence government and to market their degree and
certificate programs (Nathan 149). Furthermore, a study performed by, William Bowen, now president
of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, attributed tuition rising faster than the rate of inflation primarily
to the nature of the educational process, which did not permit academia to share in the productivity
gains that caused earnings growth in the rest of society... and to the Winner Take

There are more rabbits than the warren can hold, with the majority of females unable to reproduce
because of the overcrowding. All rabbits aspire to be in the Owsla and the Council because of the

Monocular Deprivation
In the early postnatal life, there are restricted time windows within which the essential role of
experience is mainly evident. These time windows are called critical periods.54In critical periods
brain circuits display a high sensitivity to acquire informative and adaptive signals from the exterior
environment. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper
environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent brain diseases,55one of them is
Amblyopia.56
The deficits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive periods for
different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic sensitivity, 18 24
months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision. These findings found that
there is not just one visual sensitive period but rather that there are different sensitive periods during
which different characteristics of vision can bedamaged.43The critical period for monocular

The International System And The Anarchism Of The...
According to the neo realism, the international system is structured by anarchy , in contrast to
domestic structure that is structured by hierarchy . The anarchy this term does not mean chaos or
disorder, but it means the absence of the world government or higher authority above the states that
provides security and stability and rule of law. This structure is the outcome of the sovereignty of the
states, as the unites of the international system are the states, and they are equals. This concept of the
anarchy has its roots in Thomas Hobbes` arguments about the individual in the state of nature, which
means the people `s life in a condition without government. In the state of nature, people will struggle
for resources and they rationally plan to hit first as an anticipatory defense because they fear that

Child Custody And Family Violence Essay
This article was written about the child custody and family violence. Multiple guidelines have been set
forth by the American Psychological Association (APA) for those conducting forensic evaluations
pertinent to child custody cases (Geffner, Conradi, Geis, Aranda, 2009). There has been a lack of
assessing possible family violence within the family when it comes to family custody issues. In a
sense that if family violence has occurred then that is not looked at when it comes to deciding how
custody was going to be handled between the parents. It has been shown that when there is an
assessment done to review the accusations of family violence within the family, the assessor s only
look at a very basic level. They do not take a closer look to see if the violence occur or. not. There

It has been pointed out that the lack of training for the people that are conducting forensic evaluations
in these situations are hindering the process of the custody issues. These evaluators might feel that

The children involved are either going to go along with the change in parenting or they are going to

mistake that an evaluator can make is to think that reports of a children s abuse to Parental Alienation

The Dangers Of Jackie Robinson And The Civil Rights Movement
Most people can, and have made it into the NBA, NFL, MLB, and much more. But did they really
make a linear impact through what their doing? Do these people take advantage of their position in
order to help the world? Do they help others with the advantages they have, or disadvantages they
have been given? Can t think of many? Well, there indeed is one, at the minimum. Jackie Robinson.
Jackie Robinson turned his ability to play for the Dodgers as an African American, into an
inspirational awakening to Americans everywhere and their stance of racism and the Civil Rights
Movement.
Jackie Robinson was the first black man to to enter the MLB in over 60 years. In doing so, he was
cultivated in large amounts of racism and threats he was going to, and did apprehend. In this; he had to
overcome the mind boggling hatred he was going to receive, to do not only what he loved, but what,
for America; was well overdue. Jackie Robinson was a victim of many hate crimes throughout his
career, as shown in Jackie Robinson Mini Bio (video) when it says life for Jackie Robinson was far
from easy. On the road, he was forced to stay in separate hotels, and he had agreed in his contract to
turn the other cheek when faced with racial insults and threats of physical violence (00:1:18 00:1:33).
This shows that, even with his race, yet another barrier was put up between him and his teammates,
which prevented them from learning that he too, knows his way around a diamond; for baseball at

The Process Of Interpersonal Communication
Provisionalism in My World
The skill I am going to discuss is provisionalism. According to Interplay, the Process of Interpersonal
Communication provisionalism means a supportive style of communication in which a sender
expresses open mindness to others ideas and opinions (G 9). Open mindness as is willingness to
consider new ideas. I think provisionalism means to create a positive conversation that will not turn
off the other party and encourages an open mind.
Gibb notes in Interplay, the Process of Interpersonal Communication that provisionalism surfaces
through words such as perhaps, maybe, might, possibly and may (p331). In learning about this skill I
can improve my word choices to connect with people that I may have turned off by not using
provisionalism. In open mindness a person will listen to another opinion even though they have
already made up their mind. When using Provisionalism you create a more positive conversation by
avoiding statements of certainty. Both parties will usually be more apt to continue conversation and
are more likely to consider another s point of view. Gibb notes:
One reduces the defensiveness of the listener when one communicates that one is willing to
experiment with one s own behavior, attitudes and ideas.
The person who appears to be taking provisional attitudes, to be investigating issues rather than taking
sides on them, to be problem solving rather than doubting, and to be willing to experiment and explore

The Philadelphia 76er Analysis
The Philadelphia 76ers this past season has was the worst team in the NBA. Not winning a

new management, the Sixers began to use applications of competitive analytics to step back out onto

The introduction of sabermetrics in baseball has driven many teams to reevaluate their analytics, but
baseball is not the only sport that has developed an interest in applying analytics (Sabermetrics, 2015).
Basketball is slowly becoming the next top sport for analytics, and a large reason has to of with Sam

start from scratch, and with this he took the chance of releasing many top players for better picks
infuture drafts. They were able to accumulate 15 second round picks for the next six drafts. An
example of a good business move using data is using the points per possession statistics to determine a
good player for the team. In basketball, a coach wants the most points while holding onto the ball the
longest. If data reads a player is larger but has little time of possession, then it might not be smart to
put in that player. The data can also determine if a player is undervalued by the point per possession

Prohibition was the Time to be a Criminal in America
There d never been a more advantageous time to be a criminal in America than during the 13 years of
Prohibition. At a stroke, the American government closed down the fifth largest industry in the United
States alcohol production and just handed it to criminals a pretty remarkable thing to do
(Bill Bryson). The twenties was a fast paced fun, loving time, the one problem was no alcohol. With
the twenties came the rise of jazz, flappers, different fashions, and prohibition. Jazz, flappers, and
different fashions made life enjoyable but, prohibition caused the rise of criminals, who saw the
demand for alcohol, and the opportunity to make money, by selling it to average people, along with
government officials. Noteworthy criminals helped define the roaring twenties by helping everyday
citizens break the law. To understand how this defined the decade, it is important to explore how
gangsters provided alcohol to citizens, bribed police and government officials, and made criminals
popular. Prohibition was a law passed whereby the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcohol
was illegal, this gave gangsters and average citizens the opportunity to make easy money, if they did
not get caught. The most noteworthy criminal during this time was Al Capone, in Chicago, he bribed
government officials, ran bootlegging rackets, prostitution, and gambling dens. Al Capone didn t
become a criminal overnight, at a young age he dropped out of school and was welcomed into the

A Study On Postpartum Sex Taboo Essay
In an attempt to explain why certain societies have a postpartum sex taboo, anthropologist John
Whiting discovered the statistical association that, Societies with apparently low protein diets tend to
have long postpartum sex taboos (Ember 54). Based off of this association, Whiting went on to
theorize that a long postpartum sex taboo may be an adaptation to tropical environments, particularly
where the major food staples are low in protein (Ember 54). He argued that children in these areas
were prone to the protein deficiency disease called kawashiorkor (Ember 54), so if mothers abstained
from sex for a year, therefore eliminating the possibility of having another child, the first child would
be able to nurse longer and possibly have a lower risk for contracting the disease. In order to test his
theory, Whiting sampled 172 societies (Ember 62) and divided them into a table based off of the
duration the postpartum sex taboo, with a long taboo being anything over a year and short being
anything under. Additionally, he also divided the societies into high, medium, and low protein
societies, with low surviving on root and tree crops (Ember 61), medium on cereal crops (Ember 61),
and high on hunting, fishing, or herding (Ember 61). Personally, when reading about the theory and
analyzing the evidence supporting it, I am accepting of the theory s proposition, but do not support it
entirely, simply because I feel that there should be a bit more convincing evidence.

Imprisonment and Social Control Essay
Imprisonment is one of the primary ways in which social control may be achieved; the Sage
Dictionary of Criminology defines social control as a concept used to describe all the ways in which
conformity may be achieved. Throughout time imprisonment and its ideas around social control have
varied. Imprisonment has not always been used for punishment, nor has it always thought about the
prisoners themselves. However when looking at imprisonment it is important to consider the new
penology. Therefore, it needs to be clear what the new penology is. The new penology is said, not to
be about punishing individuals or about rehabilitating them, but about identifying and managing
unruly groups in society. It is concerned with the managerial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Throughout the years, the use of imprisonment has varied, along with its influences of society. It is
thought that although prisons have been around since the thirteenth century, prisons as we know them
now to be have only been around for the last three centuries. The first uses of prisons were not seen as
a form of punishment instead they were used as a way of making people do something. People would
be held in prison until they paid their debts, or awaiting trial and then leading up to their sentence.
McGowen (1995) suggests that from the early 1700s bridewells a house of correction have existed,
however at that time being used merely for vagrants and drunks. At the end of the sixteenth century
there was a shift in punishment to imprisonment, along with this came a new, more humane idea of
reform. Criminals would spend their days of prison carrying out hard labour. However after the
American Revolution, imprisonment took a step back and there was another change. There was mass
overcrowding within the prison service and although the death penalty was still being used it was a
symbol of the power of the state. Therefore, an everyday way of dealing with offenders would be
transportation to the colonies, being either Australia or America.
It was with the work of Beccaria and Bentham that saw a change in imprisonment. Jeremy Bentham
(1748 1832) insisted crime prevention was the only way

Driving Cars Are On The Way
Self driving cars are on the way. Soon, you ll be able to purchase a fully autonomous vehicle, jump in
and leave the driving to computers. Play games, read a book or recline your seat and nap your self
driving car will transport you safely to your journey s end.
Autonomous driving features such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist are already
included in many new vehicles, offering motorists a harbinger of what s to come.
By 2020, the first fully autonomous vehicles are expected to deploy on America s roadways.
Consumers, however, are not sharing the same enthusiasm owned by self driving proponents of
autonomous vehicle technology. Indeed, three out of four Americans surveyed by AAA say that they
are afraid to ride in a self driving vehicle.
Decades of Autonomous Vehicle Testing
Before we examine the AAA survey, we need to gain context based on background.
Experiments on self driving vehicles have been ongoing for decades. For example, beginning in the
1980s, a German researcher at a Munich university, Ernst Dickmanns, built the world s first robotic
car. Those earlier models required human intervention to control engine throttle and braking. By 1995,
Dickmanns team launched the first fully autonomous vehicle, a Mercedes Benz S Class and
inaugurated it on a 1,000 mile round tripper from Munich to Denmark and back, including nearly 100
miles of human free control.(2)
That watershed mission was accomplished without incident and led to other

Nuclear Bomb Persuasive Essay
It is an ordinary Monday morning in New York City and you wake up to begin your day. Emergency
alarms suddenly fill the air and you rush outside to see what could possibly be happening. Your
neighbors are packing their cars and fleeing in a panic; you then hurry back inside to watch the news.
The emergency broadcast system appears on the screen and informs you that nuclear missiles have
been launched at the United States one of which is headed to your city. Reality strikes you as you
realize that there is nothing you can do except await the impending death and destruction that is
headed your way. The following was a possible scenario that could happen to a world with nuclear
weapons. The possibility of nuclear war could be eliminated with the disarmament of nuclear
weapons. In 1945, the first nuclear bomb was deployed over Hiroshima, Japan claiming 90,000 lives.
According to Nuclear Darkness , that bomb contained only 15,000 tons of TNT, whereas a modern
day nuclear weapon contains 20,000,000 tons. If a modern day nuclear bomb was deployed, the results
would be catastrophic. According to Nuclear Arsenals , there are approximately 15,000 nuclear
warheads in the world. That equals roughly 300,000,000,000 tons of TNT. In the event of a nuclear
war, life as we know it would cease to exist. The two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In targeting the centers of government, all forms of national leadership would be wiped out. Without
any leadership, there is no one to order missile strikes. That same concept applies to the targeting of
nuclear arsenals because it would destroy that country s nuclear weapons and they would not be
capable of retaliating. Highly populated cities like New York, Moscow, Tokyo, and Dubai would be
targeted because if destroyed, it would cut out a large fraction of Earth s population. The worst part of
a nuclear war however, has sadly yet to

child is diagnosed with a microdeletion of the twenty second chromosome. He also suffers from
multiple heart defects, scoliosis, immune deficiencies, and developmental delays. The child s oral
preparatory, oral transport, pharyngeal, and esophageal stages of swallowing were observed during the
modified barium swallow. The child was first presented with a liquid. During the oral preparatory
stage, the child closed his mouth when given the liquid and to prepare for the next stage of

Self Awareness Analysis
An emotionally intelligent individual manages personal situations and relationships with balance and
care. Daniel Goleman, a psychologist and author, believes the four domains of emotional intelligence
are self awareness, self management, empathy, and the combination of the above. When these four
domains work congruently it stabilizes an individual in both work and home relationship (Goleman,
2013). A human service worker offers an effective service to the client when socially balanced and
focused on developing healthy levels of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is
demonstrated both in the workplace and at home by how situations ... Show more content on

The fourth component is the combination of the three domains working together in unison like a well
oiled machine. If self management is neglected it certainly will not improve the ability to be
empathetic, nor can it help in self awareness, as this second component works to improve on an
individual s firm grasp of applying positive emotions under stress. It is also imperative to put these
three domains together for healthy relationships to occur. These four domains also lend into social
intelligence placing people together as you and I instead of I and it, and these two modes of relating to
others takes the object out of how one views people.
Experiencing Self Awareness Daniel Goleman provides examples of individuals experiencing self
awareness at both work and in one s life (Goleman, 2013). Being conscious of one s inner world,
beliefs, thoughts, and concepts are what comprise self awareness. In one s daily life there are
situations, struggles, and trials which can impact sound judgement and resolution. Self awareness
helps the individual make healthy decisions and knowing when to ask for help to cope with an
overwhelming issue. Also learning to grow through a limiting perspective to compromise with others
and seek alternatives (Levine, 2013). Others may disagree with ones beliefs, decisions, and lifestyle,
yet the individual can recognize feelings about those in disagreement with them and avoid
unnecessary conflict. While in the work

Los Angeles Lakers Business Analysis
Alternatives
The organisational structure of the Los Angeles Lakers is a product based, divisionalised structure. It
is currently divided into four departments as illustrated in Figure 1 (see Appendix). Each department
affects the organisation mutually, as a whole and interchangeably (Lussier Kimball, 2004). This
organisational structure has proven to be very successful for the Lakers in the past, grouping its
resources respectively in order to ensure accountability at every level.
Alternative1 = Functional Structure (Change)
George, Jones Sharbrough (1996) suggested using a functional structure when organisations can
departmentalise group jobs based on similar functions. These departments can include a wide range of
groups such as, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This alternative could help larger organisations, in the case of the L.A. Lakers, become more practical
and logical in their approach (Browning, 1991; Morgan, 2014). Research by Ghiselli Johnson (1970)
and Hinings (1992) suggests that a flatter organisation provides more satisfaction amongst employees,
and a greater sense of commitment and fulfillment.
The main advantage associated with this alternative is that it creates better communication between
employees (Browning, 1991; Suttle, 2016). Furthermore, the morale of the workforce will be
increased, notably amongst the high achievers of the organisation (Hinings 1992; Suttle, 2016). An
organisation that adopts a flatter structure is also considerably less bureaucratic, thus resulting in a
quicker decision making process (Suttle, 2016). Aside from quicker decisions, the ConnectUs (2015)
website review also highlights that fewer organisational layers result in less wages to pay, therefore
salary related expense are reduced and enable the organisation to save

The Era Of Good Feeling Essay
Following the death of the Federalist political party, and after entering a time of political unity, the
United States entered what historians refer to as the Era of Good Feeling . This era began after the War
of 1812, a war between America and Britain, and the Napoleonic Wars, a series of wars taken place in
the seas near France, ended. The Federalist party was dissolving at the end of the war, and was
completely dissolved when Monroe came into office as president in 1817. At the start of this era, there
was primarily a one party political system, the Democratic Republicans, and there was a rise of
nationalism, hence the era received the title Good Feeling . Socially, this nationalism was felt
throughout the entire nation, specifically directly following the war, in 1815 1817. Economically,
however, the issues of state sovereignty led to the rise of sectionalism, not deserving of the title Good
Feeling . Furthermore, politically, America at this time began to split into the second party system.
While at the start almost everyone was Republican, sectionalism arose during this era, and ultimately
led to the ending of the good feelings entirely. Overall, the time between 1815 and 1825 is
undeserving of its name, The Era of Good Feeling, and sectionalism played a larger role in the United
States at this time then nationalism did. Socially, the the title good feeling is an accurate representation
of the nationalism people were feeling at the time following the War of

What Is The Theme Of The Raven
The Raven
S. T. Coleridge s The Raven was published in Morning Post and Gazetteer on the 10th of March
in1798. Its subtitle A Christmas Tale, Told by a Schoolboy to his Little Brothers and Sisters suggests
innocence and something appropriate to the Christmas season. This poem tells the story of a raven,
who flies far and gathers much knowledge. On his return to his favourite tree he sets up a house with a
female raven but one day a woodman chops the tree down killing the raven s wife and chicks. The
harmonious life of the birds is destroyed by the woodman. The wood is used as timbers for the
building of a ship. When the ship is launched it sinks in an uncanny storm and the raven is avenged.
As the raven flies back to land, he meets death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
T. Coleridge s The Raven was written against the background of the collapse of the poet s hopes for
the improvement of mankind by political action and the ultimate failure of the French Revolution.
There is the theme of politics, death and love in The Raven which is pictured via symbolic devices. To
make the effect even more powerful, the poet contrasts the particular symbols in dialectical pairs, such
as the rose and the raven, sun and moon, or day and night. The dialectics create a certain tension and
the tension is the fate to the realms of wonder.
Coleridge loved experiments with words, symbols and metaphors. Relating the poem to the social
context of the time, the raven, the woodman, the oak tree and other symbols show Coleridge s
disappointment and fear of the French Revolution of 1789. The time and circumstances of writing the
poem is also political as it was published in 1798, during the French Revolution. Coleridge wishes that
one day virtue, joy, life and love win against vice, despair, hatred and death in this poem.
The poem is introduced as a Christmas tale. It invites the reader to enter the spirit of times of wonder
and to let the imagination flourish. Just as the poem begins, the first circle of life is

The Foreign And Security Policy To achieve an ever closer Union members of the European Union had to relinquish certain governance authorities to the Supranational Institutions of the European Unions. The accumulation of power in governance by the EU institutions over the past 50 years have shown that member states are willing to empower the Institutions in regards to their economic policies and social policies which had profound impact on the lives of the European citizens and raised their living standards dramatically. In order to maintain this progressive trajectory a cohesive foreign policy initiative was seen necessary. Major European member states were reluctant in giving up their sovereign right of making their foreign policies to the supranational institutions of the European Union. Therefore, a forum in which EU countries would come together to discuss and cohere their foreign policies was deemed necessary. • 4. My Life Would Suck Without You Rhetorical Devices My Life Would Suck Without You is a catchy, upbeat, and fast tempo song. Baylee Baxter and I have grown up together since we were two. We were neighbors in the neighborhood behind the high school. We spent every single day, it seemed like, together playing games, watching movies, or riding bikes. No matter what the weather was, what time it was, or who we were with; we always found fun things to do. One of our favorite things to do together was to sing and dance. We were constantly making up dances to songs that were on, movies or that we heard on the radio. We knew every word of every Disney song. We were always two parts to one whole, that was how close we were. No matter how hard someone tried, there was no separating us. Ever since the day, we watch Finn and Rachel perform My Life Would Suck Without You we fell in love with the song. We would have concerts in our basements where we belted out the lyrics and danced. On every car ride, we begged our parents to play Kelly Clarkson so that we could jam out. This was our friendship anthem. To this day, if Baylee and I hear this song together we serenade each other with this memorable song. Honestly, yes, I got tired of hanging out with Baylee 24/7 but nobody will ever be able to replace the friendship that we had. We helped each other get through the hardest times in our lives. It even sounds satirical or sarcastic, but it encourages the average reader, as well as provokes the counterparts that would not even imagine nor tolerate the approach Freedman is taking. This article mainly focuses on criticizing the relatively new wholesome food movement, discrediting many of its preachers and followers. Freedman s discussion attacks the wholesome activists. He affirms the excessive pressure these foodies are generating to the enactment of regulations and the demonization of every processed food, has in some way, harmed the large companies that have been trying to implement measures to reduce calories. Freedman also claims that is selfish and fantastic to think a wholesome diet is going to fit the average American, that has a busy schedule, a low to medium income, limited access to fresh farm markets, and a taste acquired culturally and biologically towards high fat foods, carbohydrates, sugars, and salts. • 10. The Third Bank Of The River By Roger Rosenblatt Journey means to travel, to start at one point and move on to another. It was clearly demonstrated in The Children of Cambodia, an essay by Roger Rosenblatt. It takes place in 1983 where he interviewed Cambodia children after the reign of Pol Pot. Pol Pot was the leader of Cambodia during the 1970s and he led 1.5 million Cambodians into death of starvation, execution, or being overworked. In another topic of journey, The Third Bank of the River, written by J.G. Rosa, is about a father who abandons his family by traveling away on a canoe for years without reason. Finally, Cathedral is a story written by Ray Carver in which a judgmental man lets his wife s blind friend spend the night at their house and things turn out unexpectedly. The main resolution these three pieces of writing have in common is that at least one character undergoes a journey. In deeper detail, journey can be from realizing things about life or oneself, aging from adolescence into adulthood, or moving on. These three stories portray journey in different ways. In The Third Bank of the River, journey is shown by the family. The importance of the father going into complete isolation represents the effects he has on his peers. There is an opposite effect from this story because the father s abandonment left a prominent mark on the family and their future. Perhaps Morrison is showing readers that just because a word has meant one thing in the past, it is not precluded from taking on other meanings as well. For the readers of Song, that is exactly what happens. In Morrison s story, the name Pilate loses its original meaning of Christ killer and gains the meaning of one who has control of the direction of her life. Pilate is a seeker. She asks, What do I need to know to stay alive? and What is true in the world? (149). Dominant culture might only need to ask about truth. Minority culture asks about survival. Because of her gift for penetrating to the heart of her own experience, Pilate becomes a person who can guide others. The most prominent of all the uses of biblical names in the story is the title itself, Song of Solomon. Raising Tuition Rates Raising Tuition Rates Tuition rates have been rising exponentially since World War II and the GI Bill... which allowed for, ...an explosive increase in the number and proportion of Americans who go to college (Nathan 148). This change, though largely due to inflation, has been rising past what families can afford to pay, and has led to difficulties for students exiting high school. These difficulties have been seen by campuses, and many already have a plan to help these students pay for the rocketing tuition prices. This escalating problem has been caused by multiple entities, individuals, and ideals. Firstly, between 1985 and 1995, the federal and state funding has decreased by almost twenty five percent, and since then has decreased to account for only fifty percent of the public university s budget, as more of the government s money has been allotted to the needs of the country s healthcare, welfare, and prisons. Also, universities have increased the percentage of their budgets allocated to administration roles, mostly in an attempt to influence government and to market their degree and certificate programs (Nathan 149). Furthermore, a study performed by, William Bowen, now president of the Andrew W. Jackie Robinson turned his ability to play for the Dodgers as an African American, into an inspirational awakening to Americans everywhere and their stance of racism and the Civil Rights Movement. Jackie Robinson was the first black man to to enter the MLB in over 60 years. In doing so, he was cultivated in large amounts of racism and threats he was going to, and did apprehend. In this; he had to overcome the mind boggling hatred he was going to receive, to do not only what he loved, but what, for America; was well overdue. According to Interplay, the Process of Interpersonal Communication provisionalism means a supportive style of communication in which a sender expresses open mindness to others ideas and opinions (G 9). Open mindness as is willingness to consider new ideas. I think provisionalism means to create a positive conversation that will not turn off the other party and encourages an open mind. In learning about this skill I can improve my word choices to connect with people that I may have turned off by not using provisionalism. In open mindness a person will listen to another opinion even though they have already made up their mind. When using Provisionalism you create a more positive conversation by avoiding statements of certainty. Both parties will usually be more apt to continue conversation and are more likely to consider another s point of view. Gibb notes: One reduces the defensiveness of the listener when one communicates that one is willing to experiment with one s own behavior, attitudes and ideas. At a stroke, the American government closed down the fifth largest industry in the United States alcohol production and just handed it to criminals a pretty remarkable thing to do (Bill Bryson). The twenties was a fast paced fun, loving time, the one problem was no alcohol. With the twenties came the rise of jazz, flappers, different fashions, and prohibition. Jazz, flappers, and different fashions made life enjoyable but, prohibition caused the rise of criminals, who saw the demand for alcohol, and the opportunity to make money, by selling it to average people, along with government officials. Noteworthy criminals helped define the roaring twenties by helping everyday citizens break the law. To understand how this defined the decade, it is important to explore how gangsters provided alcohol to citizens, bribed police and government officials, and made criminals popular. Prohibition was a law passed whereby the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcohol was illegal, this gave gangsters and average citizens the opportunity to make easy money, if they did not get caught. The most noteworthy criminal during this time was Al Capone, in Chicago, he bribed government officials, ran bootlegging rackets, prostitution, and gambling dens. Al Capone didn t become a criminal overnight, at a young age he dropped out of school and was welcomed into the local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. A Study On Postpartum Sex Taboo Essay In an attempt to explain why certain societies have a postpartum sex taboo, anthropologist John Whiting discovered the statistical association that, Societies with apparently low protein diets tend to have long postpartum sex taboos (Ember 54). Based off of this association, Whiting went on to theorize that a long postpartum sex taboo may be an adaptation to tropical environments, particularly where the major food staples are low in protein (Ember 54). He argued that children in these areas were prone to the protein deficiency disease called kawashiorkor (Ember 54), so if mothers abstained from sex for a year, therefore eliminating the possibility of having another child, the first child would be able to nurse longer and possibly have a lower risk for contracting the disease. In order to test his theory, Whiting sampled 172 societies (Ember 62) and divided them into a table based off of the duration the postpartum sex taboo, with a long taboo being anything over a year and short being anything under. Additionally, he also divided the societies into high, medium, and low protein societies, with low surviving on root and tree crops (Ember 61), medium on cereal crops (Ember 61), and high on hunting, fishing, or herding (Ember 61). Personally, when reading about the theory and analyzing the evidence supporting it, I am accepting of the theory s proposition, but do not support it entirely, simply because I feel that there should be a bit more convincing evidence. ... • 25. Imprisonment and Social Control Essay Imprisonment is one of the primary ways in which social control may be achieved; the Sage Dictionary of Criminology defines social control as a concept used to describe all the ways in which conformity may be achieved. Throughout time imprisonment and its ideas around social control have varied. Imprisonment has not always been used for punishment, nor has it always thought about the prisoners themselves. However when looking at imprisonment it is important to consider the new penology. Therefore, it needs to be clear what the new penology is. The new penology is said, not to be about punishing individuals or about rehabilitating them, but about identifying and managing unruly groups in society. It is concerned with the managerial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the years, the use of imprisonment has varied, along with its influences of society. It is thought that although prisons have been around since the thirteenth century, prisons as we know them now to be have only been around for the last three centuries. The first uses of prisons were not seen as a form of punishment instead they were used as a way of making people do something. People would be held in prison until they paid their debts, or awaiting trial and then leading up to their sentence. McGowen (1995) suggests that from the early 1700s bridewells a house of correction have existed, however at that time being used merely for vagrants and drunks. At the end of the sixteenth century there was a shift in punishment to imprisonment, along with this came a new, more humane idea of reform. Criminals would spend their days of prison carrying out hard labour. However after the American Revolution, imprisonment took a step back and there was another change. There was mass overcrowding within the prison service and although the death penalty was still being used it was a symbol of the power of the state. Therefore, an everyday way of dealing with offenders would be transportation to the colonies, being either Australia or America. It was with the work of Beccaria and Bentham that saw a change in imprisonment. Jeremy Bentham (1748 1832) insisted crime prevention was the only way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Play games, read a book or recline your seat and nap your self driving car will transport you safely to your journey s end. Autonomous driving features such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist are already included in many new vehicles, offering motorists a harbinger of what s to come. By 2020, the first fully autonomous vehicles are expected to deploy on America s roadways. Consumers, however, are not sharing the same enthusiasm owned by self driving proponents of autonomous vehicle technology. Indeed, three out of four Americans surveyed by AAA say that they are afraid to ride in a self driving vehicle. Decades of Autonomous Vehicle Testing Before we examine the AAA survey, we need to gain context based on background. Experiments on self driving vehicles have been ongoing for decades. For example, beginning in the 1980s, a German researcher at a Munich university, Ernst Dickmanns, built the world s first robotic car. Those earlier models required human intervention to control engine throttle and braking. By 1995, Dickmanns team launched the first fully autonomous vehicle, a Mercedes Benz S Class and inaugurated it on a 1,000 mile round tripper from Munich to Denmark and back, including nearly 100 miles of human free control.(2) That watershed mission was accomplished without incident and led to other ... • 27. Nuclear Bomb Persuasive Essay It is an ordinary Monday morning in New York City and you wake up to begin your day. Emergency alarms suddenly fill the air and you rush outside to see what could possibly be happening. Your neighbors are packing their cars and fleeing in a panic; you then hurry back inside to watch the news. The emergency broadcast system appears on the screen and informs you that nuclear missiles have been launched at the United States one of which is headed to your city. Reality strikes you as you realize that there is nothing you can do except await the impending death and destruction that is headed your way. The following was a possible scenario that could happen to a world with nuclear weapons. The possibility of nuclear war could be eliminated with the disarmament of nuclear weapons. In 1945, the first nuclear bomb was deployed over Hiroshima, Japan claiming 90,000 lives. According to Nuclear Darkness , that bomb contained only 15,000 tons of TNT, whereas a modern day nuclear weapon contains 20,000,000 tons. If a modern day nuclear bomb was deployed, the results would be catastrophic. According to Nuclear Arsenals , there are approximately 15,000 nuclear warheads in the world. That equals roughly 300,000,000,000 tons of TNT. In the event of a nuclear war, life as we know it would cease to exist. The two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That same concept applies to the targeting of nuclear arsenals because it would destroy that country s nuclear weapons and they would not be capable of retaliating. Highly populated cities like New York, Moscow, Tokyo, and Dubai would be targeted because if destroyed, it would cut out a large fraction of Earth s population. Daniel Goleman, a psychologist and author, believes the four domains of emotional intelligence are self awareness, self management, empathy, and the combination of the above. When these four domains work congruently it stabilizes an individual in both work and home relationship (Goleman, 2013). The fourth component is the combination of the three domains working together in unison like a well oiled machine. If self management is neglected it certainly will not improve the ability to be empathetic, nor can it help in self awareness, as this second component works to improve on an individual s firm grasp of applying positive emotions under stress. It is also imperative to put these three domains together for healthy relationships to occur. These four domains also lend into social intelligence placing people together as you and I instead of I and it, and these two modes of relating to others takes the object out of how one views people. Experiencing Self Awareness Daniel Goleman provides examples of individuals experiencing self awareness at both work and in one s life (Goleman, 2013). Being conscious of one s inner world, beliefs, thoughts, and concepts are what comprise self awareness. In one s daily life there are situations, struggles, and trials which can impact sound judgement and resolution. Self awareness helps the individual make healthy decisions and knowing when to ask for help to cope with an overwhelming issue. Also learning to grow through a limiting perspective to compromise with others and seek alternatives (Levine, 2013). Others may disagree with ones beliefs, decisions, and lifestyle, yet the individual can recognize feelings about those in disagreement with them and avoid unnecessary conflict. While in the work ... • 31. Los Angeles Lakers Business Analysis Alternatives The organisational structure of the Los Angeles Lakers is a product based, divisionalised structure. It is currently divided into four departments as illustrated in Figure 1 (see Appendix). Each department affects the organisation mutually, as a whole and interchangeably (Lussier Kimball, 2004). This organisational structure has proven to be very successful for the Lakers in the past, grouping its resources respectively in order to ensure accountability at every level. Alternative1 = Functional Structure (Change) George, Jones Sharbrough (1996) suggested using a functional structure when organisations can departmentalise group jobs based on similar functions. Lakers, become more practical and logical in their approach (Browning, 1991; Morgan, 2014). Research by Ghiselli Johnson (1970) and Hinings (1992) suggests that a flatter organisation provides more satisfaction amongst employees, and a greater sense of commitment and fulfillment. The main advantage associated with this alternative is that it creates better communication between employees (Browning, 1991; Suttle, 2016). Furthermore, the morale of the workforce will be increased, notably amongst the high achievers of the organisation (Hinings 1992; Suttle, 2016). An organisation that adopts a flatter structure is also considerably less bureaucratic, thus resulting in a quicker decision making process (Suttle, 2016). Aside from quicker decisions, the ConnectUs (2015) website review also highlights that fewer organisational layers result in less wages to pay, therefore salary related expense are reduced and enable the organisation to save ... • 32. The Era Of Good Feeling Essay Following the death of the Federalist political party, and after entering a time of political unity, the United States entered what historians refer to as the Era of Good Feeling . This era began after the War of 1812, a war between America and Britain, and the Napoleonic Wars, a series of wars taken place in the seas near France, ended. The Federalist party was dissolving at the end of the war, and was completely dissolved when Monroe came into office as president in 1817. At the start of this era, there was primarily a one party political system, the Democratic Republicans, and there was a rise of nationalism, hence the era received the title Good Feeling . Socially, this nationalism was felt throughout the entire nation, specifically directly following the war, in 1815 1817. Economically, however, the issues of state sovereignty led to the rise of sectionalism, not deserving of the title Good Feeling . Furthermore, politically, America at this time began to split into the second party system. While at the start almost everyone was Republican, sectionalism arose during this era, and ultimately led to the ending of the good feelings entirely. Overall, the time between 1815 and 1825 is undeserving of its name, The Era of Good Feeling, and sectionalism played a larger role in the United States at this time then nationalism did. Socially, the the title good feeling is an accurate representation of the nationalism people were feeling at the time following the War of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. What Is The Theme Of The Raven The Raven S. T. Coleridge s The Raven was published in Morning Post and Gazetteer on the 10th of March in1798. Its subtitle A Christmas Tale, Told by a Schoolboy to his Little Brothers and Sisters suggests innocence and something appropriate to the Christmas season. This poem tells the story of a raven, who flies far and gathers much knowledge. On his return to his favourite tree he sets up a house with a female raven but one day a woodman chops the tree down killing the raven s wife and chicks. The harmonious life of the birds is destroyed by the woodman. The wood is used as timbers for the building of a ship. When the ship is launched it sinks in an uncanny storm and the raven is avenged. As the raven flies back to land, he meets death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... T. Coleridge s The Raven was written against the background of the collapse of the poet s hopes for the improvement of mankind by political action and the ultimate failure of the French Revolution. There is the theme of politics, death and love in The Raven which is pictured via symbolic devices. To make the effect even more powerful, the poet contrasts the particular symbols in dialectical pairs, such as the rose and the raven, sun and moon, or day and night. The dialectics create a certain tension and the tension is the fate to the realms of wonder. Coleridge loved experiments with words, symbols and metaphors. Relating the poem to the social context of the time, the raven, the woodman, the oak tree and other symbols show Coleridge s disappointment and fear of the French Revolution of 1789. The time and circumstances of writing the poem is also political as it was published in 1798, during the French Revolution. Coleridge wishes that one day virtue, joy, life and love win against vice, despair, hatred and death in this poem. The poem is introduced as a Christmas tale. It invites the reader to enter the spirit of times of wonder and to let the imagination flourish. Just as the poem begins, the first circle of life is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
