Billy Pilgrim Anti Hero
Seen throughout war novels, an anti hero is a character that manifests characteristics that usually
appear foolish, making the character an easy target of abuse and a child like status. In the fictional
novel, Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, the protagonist, Billy Pilgrim is a classic anti hero
character. He lacks both valor and dignity, making it easy for his fellow soldiers to make fun of
him and treat him like a child. In addition, Billy possesses a physical appearance that is foolish
and childish, making it hard for him to gain respect from people of higher authority. He is meek,
mild and unassuming. During his travels as a soldier in WWII, Billy is constantly treated as a
lower individual and when enemy forces catch him, he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he mostly travels to Tralfamadore, a planet far from earth. He was abducted by
Tralfamadorians on the night before his daughter s wedding and he is held captive in a zoo on
the Tralfamadore. During his time on the planet, Billy meets many people that influence his
ideas of death and free will. Billy travels back to Tralfamadore many times during the novel. It is
during these visits Billy s transformation begins to occur. In addition while staying at the camp,
he flashes forward to giving a boy an eye examine and sharing his experiences on Tralfamdore
with him. However, the mother of the boy quickly realizes Billy is insane and Billy s daughter
has to come pick him up to go home. This is the first time in the novel when someone else
realizes Billy has become senile and crazy. The next day at the POW camp, Billy wakes up and
realizes he is being transported to Dresden with the other American

America Needs To Preserve Natural Resources
Natural Resource Conservation In 1964, at the signing of the final Wilderness Act, President
Lyndon B. Johnson said, If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than
contempt, we must leave them something more than the miracles of technology (Famous Quotes).
The Wilderness Act started with Theodore Roosevelt in 1901, who conserved 230 million acres of
public land. The Act created the National WildernessPreservation System (NWPS), which protects
wilderness areas designated for preservation in their natural condition. Even though well planned
programs of preservation could cease the usage of nonrenewable natural resources, the conservation
of the wilderness and natural resources through laws and National/State Parks is the best approach
to saving the land. Since 1964, the NWPS believe that preservation, not conservation, is the best
approach to saving natural resources. According to David Newton, a specialist in life sciences, if
the government prevent the cutting,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pipelines, similar to the Keystone Pipeline, stretch for miles under the earth s surface. Oil is
toxic to living things and if leaked, can destroy crops and like the oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico
in 2010, contaminate fresh water springs, causing life forms to either get sick or die. If the
government had a better handle over the entirety of its land, the country would become a
considerably better place to live. The debate over preservation and conservation of the natural
resources has been going on for almost a hundred years, with little conclusion. The government of
the United States, along with advocates from each state, need to reach a consensus to provide
methods of conservation to the country that prevents wasteful usage of nonrenewable and natural
resources and leaves wilderness for later generations to

The Aspects Of Discrimination In The Workplace
Introduction
Discrimination, it is such a strong word that has many meanings. It can be referred to as the unjust
or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of
race, age, or sex (Merriam Webster). It is a topic that most people do not want to face the facts that
people still have to face discrimination in the workplace to this very day. Since 2011, the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission [EEOC] has received over 45,000 complaints that are
directly related to racial discrimination (Gaille, 2017). Discrimination should be a thing of the
past it should not be an issue that someone has to get up every day and face in their place of
work. We need to learn how to treat each other based their own personality instead of a group as
a whole. Discrimination is not a dirty world and once people learn to not be so afraid of talking
about it and learning how to address it, then discrimination in the workplace will become a thing of
the past, where it belongs.
Background
Being a Hispanic female, I am always intrigued about how discrimination is still a huge issue. I
want to be in a workplace where people are just judged by their work performance and not the
color of their skin, gender, or sexual preference. I currently work in a department of all men and
I love that my manager gives me the same kind of hard trailers that he gives to all the men he
does not give me easy trailers just because I am a female. There are many

Critical Study of Animal Attacks and Government Policy
Jungles are calling: Critical Study of animal attacks and government policy
We are fond of progress, mines, speedy trains, luxurious homes, and of smooth roads and at the
same time we want a peace of mind where we can take a rest for few days in the jungles or in
remote area from the chaotic and tensed urban life. That clearly shows human being has fond of
development as well as environment. Over to the time this fact is accepted that sustainable
development and protection of environment are two side of one coin. Recent incidents shows that
supporters of both the side are conflicting with each other like these are enemies of each other s.
Recent statistics from Maharashtra shows that compensation amount which is given to the victims
of the animal attack is too high and that can be wisely and effectively invested into the
precautionary measures and for the rehabilitation of the animals. Many animals like elephants,
tigers, peacock etc. are getting unnatural death because of trains in many areas of country. We are
using the jungles to build dams, railway tracks and many things which are for the development of
the human fraternity, but at the same time we are not thoughtful about water places, ways of the
animals and which are resulted into the attack of the animals on people. Even then no one is
serious about preserving jungles. Indian railway has planned to cut down 2800 Km forest for the
widening the railway line in country and the same proposal is pending in the front

Statement Of Purposes In Journalism
Ezra Pound once said that literature is news that stays news. For me, literature is the very essence of
the enduring power of any great work of art. In journalism industry, it plays an important and
fundamental role in news reporting and communication. I deem literature as the art that uses
language as a media, depicting information about humanity and ways of living. Journalism,
flourished by the news that constantly changes around this globe, is an ultra competitive modern
media market that needs versatile, multimedia journalists with cutting edge academic and
vocational skills, to influence people and the world. My parents came from little so they made a
choice to give a lot. They care much about my education, more than I do. My father wrote... Show

A Major Area China s Air Pollution Effects On The...
A major area China s air pollution effects is the environment. With this in mind a way the pollution
damages the environment is through acid rain ( Air pollution in China ). Sulfur dioxide and
nitrogen oxides go high into the atmosphere to combine with oxygen to form the heavy pollutant
known as acid rain (epa.gov). Acid rain easily dissolves in water, and when mixed with other
pollutants in China s atmosphere, can contaminate the soil and water sources. One third of China s
water is unusable in the industry and agriculture because of contamination (Kahn Yardley). That is
concerning because water is used for a lot of things in the world and if it can be contaminated, the
contamination might spread to wildlife. Acid rain is a really common issue the air pollutioncauses in
China. Another subject with the environment is how the air pollutionhas affected the world. It has
pervaded through the air to neighboring countries including Korea, Japan, and some parts of North
America ( Air pollution in China ). This causes some other countries to worry about China s
ignorance towards the problem, because it has large potential to pervade the world. On the other
end of the effects, the heavy air pollution in China causes a variety of health problems. The air
pollution in china greatly increases the cases of cancer, respiratory diseases, chronic obstructive
pulmonary diseases, a weakening immune system, and a reduced lung function ( Air pollution in
China ). The

Analysis Of The Scholarly Article Offshore Aquifers By...
In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of
fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are
an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different
types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are
linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff.
They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and
pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks,
buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the
non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and
sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to
travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water
from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water
shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the
ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully,
the entire water supplycould be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would
be comparable to drilling oil

In Chapter 4 the topic that is discussed is the state of conscious and the different forms. Conscious
is defined as being the immediate awareness you have of mental activity, internal sensations and
external stimuli. Circadian rhythms become regulated by the master clock or suprachiasmatic
nucleus (SCN). The SCN also reduces the amount of melatonin produced when light is detected.
Having an increased amount of melatonin causes sleepiness. The scientific understanding of sleep
has changed due to the invention of the electroencephalograph, which then produces an
electroencephalogram. The understanding of rapid eye movements also contributed the scientific

Arranged Marriage Essay
Arranged marriage is a bad decision
Marriage is defined as legal or religious union of two person in which they live together. There
are different kind of marriage but mostly arrange marriage and love marriage is talked. In many
cultures, marriages are arranged by the parents, sometimes with the couple having little or no say.
Such arranged marriages are often found within societies with a high degree of hierarchy and
awareness of social rank (BOOK). People often say arranged marriage are highly traditional and
renowned, protect values and so on but what about in the life of bride and groom? Will they be
happy protecting values and culture? Thus, Arranged marriage is a bad decision because they lack a
freedom to choose and interference from extended family, lack of trust, understanding and love is
not a first priority, and social problem.
Arranged marriage takes place in different part of the world. A recent research conducted by a post
graduate student of Amity University, New Delhi has brought to light the finding that arranged
marriages in India originated during the Vedic period of Indian history (Chettri). It is the period (c.
1500 c.500 B.C.E) during which the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism were composed.
Similarly, Helena Minchew, program officer in International Women s Health Coalition wrote in

Case Control Study
Discussion
In recent years, it has been suggested that miRNAs act as key regulators of gene expression
networks. Like other genes, single nucleotide polymorphism in miRNA genes can affects their
function at different levels, such as miRNA transcription, maturation and target specificity. Our
study is the first report of mir 23a, mir155 and mir 196a2 polymorphism in the iranian MS
patients. In this case control study we examined the impact of functional mir 155 rs767649,
mir196a2 rs11614913 and miR 23a rs3745453 polymorphism on MS risk in a sample of Isfahan
population. We found that miR 23a rs3745453 CT variant seem to increase the risk of MS in this
population (OR =2.5).

Saumet et al. in 2008 observed that miR 23a~27a~24 2 is directly repressed by the PML RARA
oncogene. also in some study upregulation of miR 23a has been observed in cancers(22).
Considerable up regulation of miR 23a was reported by Meng and Gottardo in human bladder
cancer and in malignant cholangiocytes compared to normal tissues. Furthermore, Mi et al. in their
study showed that miR 23a was among several other miRNAs that have been differentially
expressed between acute myeloid leukemia (AMLs) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALLs). In
addition, up regulation of miR 23a/b along with miR 24 has also been identified in osteoblast cell
line (20,21).
An exonic MiR 155 with rs767649 (T/A) polymorphism in the upstream region of the pre miR 155
gene is transcribed from the B cell integration cluster (BIC) that is located on chromosome 21. It
has been suggested that miR155 modulate host antiviral immune response by elevating type I
IFN signaling. In some study This miRNA proposed to be involved in diverse biological
processes, such as inflammation, differentiation, and immunity. Furthermore, dysregulation of
miR 155 has been reported in viral infections and different cancers. Some study reported mir155
highly expressed in activated T and B cells as well as macrophage and dendritic cells(23). Our
result suggested that rs767649 TT genotype have potential to act as a risk factor for MS(OR=2.5),

The Hunger Games Dystopian Society
A Dystopian society can be defined as an imperfect world, a place marked by class distinction,
poverty, turmoil, and dehumanization. There are two modern works that represent these ideas to
society , Divergent and The Hunger Games. Both novels portray a cataclysmic decline in society in
the way that these dystopian elements are present. The novels referenced above feature an
omnipotent authority in the form of Snow from The Hunger Games and Jeanine and Eric from
Divergent. The factions, Divergent, and capital, The Hunger Games, represent totalitarian
government, and oppression and cruelty elicited through the large wage gap cause mistrust among
its people. With this type of government, there are always the figureheads, a benevolent leader type
of public persona, which are almost always radically different from what actually happens outside
the eye of the public. President Snow and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Some Close Encounters of a Mental Kind by Stephen Jay Gould
I spy with my little eye something blue, or is it purple, maybe green? I Spy was one of my
favorite games when I was a little girl. Almost everyone as a child that I know played this game,
and if you did, and your experience was anything like mine, you got stuck on an object or two a
couple of times. If you didn t play, eye spy was a game where someone said a color of something
they saw and you would have to guess what object it was or vice versa. Was it our own vision at
fault or that of our friends that we couldn t find what we were searching for? Doesn t matter
since someone saw something they didn t actually see. Stephen Jay Gould, a teacher of several
subjects at Harvard University, discusses how our brain can play tricks on us in his essay titled
Some Close Encounters of a Mental Kind. Although our minds are powerful things, what we
see, or remember seeing, can be wrong. Perfect is definitely an adjective my mom would use to
describe herself. Her eyesight, on the other hand, is far from satisfactory. When I say that, I don t
mean she is in need for glasses, she doesn t see what is actually happening but rather what she
wants to see. Every year my family participates in this huge celebration known as the Basque
Picnic. My dad and brother are in charge of one of the food items while my grandmother and mom
deal with serving. I, on the other hand, am a member of the traditional Basque dancing group that
performs at the festival. One year,

Essay On Stuffed Crust
To find the amount of inches of stuffed crust put around the edge of pizza A, you must find the
perimeter. To do so, you can use the formula p = 2 (l+w). Since pizza A has both a length and width
of 5 inches, you can multiply 2 by 10 to get a perimeter of 20 inches. To find the perimeter of pizza
B, you can also use the same formula. Since pizza B has a length of 4 inches and a width of 8
inches, you can multiply 2 by 12 to get a perimeter of 24 inches. To find the circumferenceof pizza
C, you can use the formula a = pi (d), as d represents diameter. Because the diameter of the pizza
is 9 inches, you can multiply pi, or 3.14, by 9 to get a circumference of 28.26 inches. To figure
out the length of stuffed crust around the edge of a square pizza with an area of 36 square inches,
you must first find the length of each side.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The square root of 36 is 6, so that means each side is 6 inches. 4 sides that are each 6 inches long
is a total of 24 inches, so the perimeter of the pizza is 24 inches. To design two rectangular pizzas
each with an area of 36 square inches, you can simply just find the factors of 36. One pair of
factors are 4 and 9, so these numbers can represent the length and width of the pizza. Now to find
the perimeter of this pizza, you can use the same formula we used for pizza A and B in number
1. Since this pizza has a length of 4 inches and a width of 9 inches, you can multiply 2 by 13 to

Marc Kasky versus Nike
1. What responsibility does Nike have for conditions of work at foreign factories making its
products?
The company expanded efforts to stop workplace abuse and started a public relations campaign. It
became the only shoe company in the world to eliminate the use of polyvinyl chloride in shoes
construction, ending worker exposure to chloride compounds. It revised its conduct code,
expanding protections for workers. It set up a compliance department of more than 50 employees.
Its staff members were assigned to specific Asian plants or to a region, where they trained local
managers and did audits assessing code compliance.

4. Did the California Supreme Court correctly decide the Kasky case? Why or why not?
The highest American court decided to send the famous record vs. Nike Kasky lower courts, saying
that did not belong to his jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by the Nike Company in which it was stated that an
advertising campaign to refute accusations of exploitation of staff was protected by the right to
freedom of expression.
The case of Nike vs Kasky, was rejected on a technicality, and in fact goes back to the lower courts
of the American legal structure. But, anyway, has major implications for advertisers in general. If
Nike had actually lost, would have severely limited the possibilities for companies to defend
themselves publicly.

The Past, Canadian Identity, By Hugh Maclennan
In the past, Canadian identity was dominated by the clash between English Canadians and French
Canadians, and the close ties between the English Canadians and the British Empire. However, with
the gradual weakening of our ties with Great Britain, immigrants from Europe, Asia, and Africa
have reshaped the Canadian identity. Immigrants built Canadainto what it is today. From the
Chinese on the Canadian Pacific Railway to the Irish on much of the work on Victoria bridge, and
the Italians on the Bloor Street Bridge. However, immigrants face many problems when adapting

This is why Two Solitudes by Huge MacLennan should be read by every new Canadian.
On the surface, it may seem that Two Solitudes only focuses on the hardship between the French

Staffing within a Sheriff s Organization
Staffing within a sheriff s organization Introduction Staffing in a Sheriff s organization is an
extremely important part of human resource management. It helps to identify the strengths of the
current workforce and opportunities for improvement that relate to the delivery of service within

A Native Conformation Of Protein And Aggregation Of Proteins
A native conformation of protein is only marginally stable than unfolded states, and most of
proteins are prone to aggregate in liquid state to form non native supra structures. The loss of
unique globular structures and aggregation of proteins are problematic in biopharmaceutical
formulations due to the reduction of therapeutic potency and the possibility of inducing undesired
immune responses[1]. For several decades, it has been pursued to develop formulation methods of
preserving the proteinstability. One of effective way to improve protein stability is mixing
cosolvents in protein water system[2, 3]. The present of excipient molecules such as salts,
carbohydrates, amino acids, and surfactants change the equilibrium of protein denaturation and
aggregation[4 10]. A great interest has been raised in understanding of the effects of excipients on
proteins in an effort to find ideal formulation recipes[11].
One of fundamental concept in addressing the impact of excipients on proteins is their preferential
interactions in the system[12 16]. The interactions of additives can be attractive or repellent to
proteins, resulting the concentration of cosolvents in the local domain near proteins differs from
that in the bulk solution. Such a discrete population of cosolvents influences the thermodynamic
properties of the protein inducing a significant change in conformational or colloidal stability. A key
parameter to quantify the preferential behavior of excipients is the

Techniques Used By Analytical Chemist For The Creation Of...
Electrospray is the technique that is used by analytical chemist for the creation of ions from a
sample. The technique uses electricity to form an exceptionally fine liquid aerosol. Other
techniques that were used before electrospray used gas to form these aerosols for analyses.
Electrospray is particularly useful over using gas because it is a soft ionization technique. Soft
ionization techniques ionize the sample with minor fragmentation of the molecule, giving an
observable molecular ionfor the mass spectrometer to measure. This is an advantage in
macromolecules because old techniques use to fragment the larger molecule. Going from solution
to ions using electrospray is an interesting process. The analyte or sample that is being... Show more

These droplets are around 10 micrometers in size depending on the analyte. The droplets
contain a mixture of the solvent it was dissolved in and the analyte. Once the cloud of tiny
droplets, the aerosol, is created and expelled from the nozzle the solvent present in the droplet
starts to evaporate from the surface of the highly charged small droplet. The electrospray
instrument can be heated to aid in the evaporation of said solvent creating a highly charged
droplet that is reaching its Rayleigh limit, the surface tension on the droplet cannot maintain the
charge. However, as the solvent evaporates the distance between the charged droplets are
decreasing as a function of solvent present. As the droplets are subjected to a higher force of
electrostatic repulsion they become more and more unstable as a droplet. Once the electrostatic
repulsion becomes higher than that of the surface tension of the droplet it will undergo Coulomb
fission. The basic idea here is that the original highly charged droplet will become smaller as the
solvent evaporates off until it becomes so small that it cannot handle the charge present and the
droplet will burst. The droplet will burst because it will need to dissipate the charge present. The
original droplet will burst into smaller droplets that are less charged and more stable than the
original droplet. This keeps happening to all of the

Maximal oxygen uptake or Vo2max is the highest rate at which the oxygen can be taken up and
utilized by the body during severe exercise (Bassett Howley, 2000). Vo2max is wide ly used both
in sports and clinical practice and its measurement allows us to assess cardi orespiratory fitness,
one of the most powerful markers of health (Mayorga Vega, Aguilar Soto Viciana 2015; Bruce,
Kusumi Hosmer 1973). Vo2max also provides essential di agnostic and prognostic information
for clinical populations, such as patients with heart failure (Sartor, Vernillo, de Morree, et al.,
2013). The most precise method for the assessment of maximal oxygen consumption is the
direct measurement which is considered the gold standard (Noonan Dean, 2000). However, the
use of this method is limited in several settings such as in sports clubs, schools, or in large scale
research studies (Pescatello American College of Sports Medicine, 2014) because it requires
appropriate and expensive equipment, supervision by trained personnel and a max imal level of
exertion which cannot be achieved by all the individuals and especially those who may be limited
by pain, fatigue, abnormal gait, impaired balance or those with cardio vascular problems(Evans,
Ferrar, Smith, et al., 2015). As a consequence, many indirect tests have been developed for use in
sports, clinical and home settings but there are sundry fac tors which must be considered when we

During the 18th century, London was not charming, clean, and astounding, at least that s what
William Blake thought. William Blake and William Wordsworth, poets of the romantic period,
wrote poems about London. These two poets expressed how they felt about London about how
it was at the time. Blake and Wordsworth create an image in a reader s mind of how they saw
London, Blake s image being dim and Wordsworth s image is brighter. Blake viewed London as
an awful place, and Wordsworth viewed London as a cheerful place. Blake and Wordsworth used
metaphors, a setting, and they call attention to the classes of the people to get their message to
readers. Metaphors are a attractive way to get readers to keep reading. In addition to that, Blake...

Alice Munro s The Amber Of The Moment
Here we are, trapped in the amber of the moment. There is no why (Vonnegut 76 77). There are
notable depictions of a sense of entrapment among protagonists in works such as Alice Munro s
Dimension and Train. In these short stories, the central characters, Doree and Jackson suffer from
a sensation of feeling trapped, due to their life experiences, which ultimately leads them becoming
motivated to go onto the next chapter of their lives. There are overlapping themes and writing
styles in each story, therefore accentuating the similarities between the experiences of Doree and
Jackson, and bring the two stories closely together, evoking strong emotions and pathos within the
reader. Thematically, Munro shows parallel ones in both Dimension and Train, with the most
prominent ones being isolation, and relationships with family members and its affiliation with
sexuality and gender. Munro s writing style rings identical in both stories as well, as each one
incorporates the use of flashbacks, once again implementing a way to compare the characters, as
the flashbacks provide explanations for being emotionally confined. Lastly, a prominent technique
used is the way in which each story ends abruptly, stimulating a response in the reader of wanting
more to the story, as the endings both foreshadow a start to a new life, although Doree breaks free
whereas Jackson seemingly follows his cycle as a result from feeling trapped. Isolation is a theme
that is largely present in both Dimension

Contributions Of The Vikings, Polynesians, And The...
The Vikings, Polynesians, and the Phoenicians explored vast areas around the world. They were
motivated to trade and conquest areas of the unknown. These groups of people traveled without
any modern technology and they still managed to arrive in hard to reach places around the

they did. The Phoenicians traveled to places such as, Spain, Africa, and Scilly Isles. They
explored places that were beyond the traditional safe limits in the Mediterranean and into the
Atlantic. The Phoenicians were driven to trade things for silver in Spain, Africa s wide variety
of gold, and tin from Scilly Isles. These people were also credited with the achievements of many
new nautical inventions. Their life was full of exploring new places, and that benefitted their
people very much. Exploration was the reason for many new advancements in this time. Masters

Essay on Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach
Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach
Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach employs the sounds of language in three ways, through
onomatopoeia to aurally represent the actions occurring on the beach, a varying meter which
mirrors the varying heights of the waves on the beach, and a rhyme scheme which searches for its
identity. In each stanza of the poem when the sounds of language are chaotic, the visual
descriptions in the poem are tranquil, but when the visual descriptions are chaotic, the sounds of
language become tranquil. This never resolved struggle represents the struggle the speaker finds
himself in, which is about looking for something in his world which sounds and looks agreeable
with his beliefs.

(line 1) and ?light? (line 3) through sound instill an idea of chaos in the reader?s mind, how can
light be present in something associated with dark such as night? There are also few cases of
words that appear to rhyme due to similar letter arrangements. The meter is in chaos as the
number of feet per line increases to a point then decreases and increases again throughout the
stanza. Since the first stanza is the largest this process occurs more often in the first stanza than
in any other. The meter also reminds the reader of the chaotic waves that will tamper with any
tranquil beach scene. The beach is not a place the speaker can go to relax and enjoy his life with his
loved one. Visually it appears to be such a place, but as he calls the reader and his loved one to the
window we hear the sense of chaos he hears on the beach.
In the second stanza, sounds of language are at peace, but the visuals in the stanza represent the
chaos Sophocles noted in a similar position as the speaker. This stanza has a definite rhyme
scheme, abacbc. There are no questionable end rhymes. There is no example of onomatopoeia in
this stanza that stands out to aurally represent to the reader an event on the beach that occurs
visually. The meter of the poem, while it does change in the wave motion, the change is consistent.
The meter of the first half of the stanza moves from iambic trimeter to iambic tetrameter, to iambic
pentameter. This process is repeated for the next three

Psychoactive Drugs Can Be Defined As Any Chemical Substance
Psychoactive drugs can be defined as any chemical substance, whether it be of a synthetic or of
an organic nature, used with the purpose of altering an individual s psychological state of mind,
mood or perception (Gossop, 1993, cited in Saggers Gray, 1998). According to Fleckenstein,
Hanson Venturelli (2014), drugs are allocated into two categories consisting of illegal and legal.
Illegal drugs usually consist of hallucinogenic substances such as marijuana (however, can be used
for medical reasons), crack cocaine, ecstasy and others. The law prohibits use of these substances
and can also result in social stigma. On the other hand, legal drugs consist of substances such as
coffee, tobacco, alcohol and over the counter (OTC) drugs, to a high extent these drugs are usually
socially accepted and the effects are inconspicuous if used in moderation.
Statistics of drug use amongst youth in the UK
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NHI) (2012a), deaths regarding drug use
has doubled since the 1980 s, furthermore it is stated that there are more illnesses and disabilities
from drug abuse than any other avoidable health condition. There are many reasons why young
people may choose to indulge in the risky behaviour that is drug use. Individuals may feel
pressured by their peers, take this action out of curiosity or use it as a method for dealing with
physiological or psychological problems (Better Health, 2012). A study performed by Miller and

To even have a chance at success, health education programs must be implemented before the

will teach about the dangers of smoking and passive smoking (Williams, 1987). This is a
preventative measure to decrease the amount of people in society who are smoking and prevent
children from picking up this habit. Another health disparity is ethnic background. A study found
that Asian women are referred for late treatment for a breast lump compared to Caucasian
women (Winship, 1997). Part of this disparity is the disbelief that Asian women can/will develop
breast cancer (Winship, 1997). Hospitals and medical professionals also contribute to this

There must be changes implemented to medical and nursing training as well (Winship, 1997).

Some people say america was the land of freedom
I feel that the american imperialism had a negative effect on the natives In the Spanish American
War of 1898 the United States seized the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean and the Pacific,
emerging for the first time as a world power.* As in Cuba, Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines
had given rise to a national liberation struggle. Immediately after the U.S. naval bombardment of

to fetch the exiled Filipino revolutionary leader Emilio Aguinaldo from Hong Kong. The United

The Agency s Post Revolution Influence Over Romanian Society
The impact of the Securitate s legacy on Romanian society continues to be substantial to this day.
The reason for this lies in its functions, which were fundamentally pervasive and intrusive,
involving countless informants and the widespread surveillance of society against dissent or
perceived threats to the regime. Because of its politically preservative function, the Securitates
reputation has become inseparable from Ceausescu s regime. But in order for the impact of this
security service to be understood, some of its functions must be explored. This paper will discuss
the ways in which the Securitate fulfilled the role of preserving Ceasescu s regime. Once this is

of the experiment, 70 individuals answered the ad. Every individual had to go through a
background check to check for mental issues or past drug or alcohol use. In the end only 24
students were chosen (McLeod). The prisoners were treated just like they would be treated at a
your average prison. Half of the 24 students that were selected were prisoners and the other half
were the guards. The guards had no specific direction as to how to treat the prisoners, Guards

Swing Music And The Popularity Of Swing Music
Swing band arrangements were in large part composed, often of simple, repeated material, or riffs,
that alternated between contrapuntal lines and intense unison rhythms. Improvisation also had a
featured role, and soloists would play while the rest of the band, aside from the rhythm section,
dropped out or played arranged background lines.
POPULARITY OF SWING MUSIC
One explanation for swing music s popularity is that its driving intensity and abandon represented
pleasure and freedom in a time when the country was steeped in hard times. The Great Depression
caused Americans to suffer, and dancing to swing music was a way for people to forget their
worries. Swing music featured a section of three or four trumpeters, three or four trombonist, five
saxophonists who often doubled on clarinets, a piano, a bassist instead of a tuba player, a guitarist,
and a drummer.
During the 1930s, swing came to symbolize joy and ease, the weight of which was reflected in
Duke Ellington s piece, It Don t Mean a Thing (If It Ain t Got That Swing).

The Monsanto Company s Relationship and Performance in the...
Monsanto Company is a large multinational agricultural conglomerate that supplies genetically
engineered products to the market. The enormity of its financial muscle makes it a strong market
force. The company has been engaging in unscrupulous activities while receiving protection from
the government and other government agencies in its undertakings. This analysis utilizes a
heuristic approach to dissect the Monsantos relationship and performance in the market amidst
ethical, social and legal odds.

These appointments have made it possible for Monsanto Company to impose influence in the
government and related regulatory agencies. For instance, when Obama entered into office,
investigations were launched on the operations of Monsanto Company but were later terminated
without any tangible reason given to members of the public.
When questioned about their business and operations, the President of Monsanto Company noted
that their work is to make money while the work of the FDA was to ensure that products from
individual companies were safe for public consumption (). This shows a substantial level of
impunity and disregard of quality and safe productions.
Monsanto and Small Farmers Dairy
Small farmers have been at a loss with regard to farm produce. Small farmers have been subjected
to innumerable law suits by the Monsanto Company since it has the financial muscle to marshal
support from legal experts. In one weird case hearing, Monsanto Company stated that pollens from
small farmers were contaminating the company s produce leading to cross pollination. This resulted
in impure seeds that were less than perfect when subjected to harsh products like the company s
RoundupВ® pesticide.
Small farmers have been forced to have at least 70 % of their farm products from Monsanto
Company. Farmers that did not adhere to this ideation were segregated and their products lacked
market as the company flooded local markets with similar products. These farmers ended

Seismometers and tilt meters are also used to detect volcanic activity and give advanced
warning in the Cascade Range. The Bride4Kids campaign is another measure that has been taken
in order to keep the people of the Orting community safe. The bridge connects Orting to the
Cascadian Plateau which allows children to quickly move from a place of caution to safer land.
The Bridge4Kids also aims to educate people on how to remain safe during a mudslide.
Protecting Mount Rainier and the surrounding wildlife in the Cascade Range is Mount Rainier
National Park. The Park was established on March 2, 1899 and was the 5th National Park in the
United States (National Park Service U.S. Dept of Interior). This National park attracts 1.3
million visitors annually seeking adventure in its natural beauty. The park offers backpacking,
camping, nature trails, fishing, and horseback riding, snow skiing, and climbing. Approximately
10,000 visitors attempt to reach the peak of Mount Rainier every year. The National Park also
has waterfalls, subalpine wildflower meadows, and 26 beautiful glaciers. Although Orting,
Washington has numerous geological hazards because of its location so near to Mount Rainier, it
is a wonderful town that is perfect for young people and families. It has the convenience of a city,

The business world continues to change dramatically as new technologies are invented.
Organizations and businesses are experiencing waves of technological change and innovation and

The world has ended because zombies and vampires are taking over from an experiment gone

looking beneath the surface will reveal several major differences. The vampires are sensitive to
sunlight, and they hide in the dark while huddling around as a group (I Am Legend). Sunlight is
one of the vampires weaknesses, however the vampires are intelligent and they have the ability to
think like human. During one scene, Fred, how did you get here? stated Robert, he was tricked

Compare And Contrast Creon Vs. Oskar Schindler
Tragic hero to me is a character that makes a judgement error then tries making a recovery in the
end. In the comparison of Creon vs. Oskar Schindler I feel that Creon was a tragic hero but
Schindler however was not. Schindler falls under many categories of a tragic hero but I think he
was more of just a hero. Schindler was not a tragic hero due to no error in judgement, he didn t
discover fate he chose it, and he wasn t prideful. Creon s error in judgement was when he arrested
Antigone for what he thought was a crime. Schindler had no error in judgement. Things happen for
a reason. In the beginning Schindler may not have realized what he was doing. He was just taking
the Jews and making them work for him. There is no flaw in that.... Show more content on

Schindler had money and new where to play it to get what he wanted but he wasn t putting
himself above others due to royalty. Schindler really wasn t even royalty he bought his way into
the Nazi party he wasn t a German ranked in it. In Antigone, Creon uses being king as a way to
set the rules for himself. Between him and the gods the rules were set and that was what he was
sticking with. Creon thought he knew the right way to judge a situation based on what the rules
have always been and turned away any one who tried to help him. Schindler on the other hand
was like a big teddy bear. An example was when the lady came to his office and said she wanted
her parents at his shop so that they didn t get burned in the gas chambers. Schindler said he
couldn t do it because his shop was not a safe haven. The next day her parents were escorted to
the shop. This is where Schindler is different than Creon. Schindler listens to the people to help
keep peace. Another example of this is when he goes to the basement to talk to Helen Hirsch. He
is open to input and ideas to figure out what his plan should be. Creon just pushes people away

Information Based Medicine ( Ebm )
A Health intervention is an effort that promotes behaviour that optimizes mental and physical
health, or discourages or re frames behaviours considered to be potentially health threatening. So,
Evidence based medicine(EBM) is not the only but the best approach to health interventions as it
emphasizes the use of evidence from well designed and conducted research in healthcare decision
making. EBM is regarded as the gold standard of clinical practice. The term evidence based
medicine, as it is currently used, has two main tributaries. Chronologically, the first is the insistence
on explicit evaluation of evidence of effectiveness when issuing clinical practice guidelines and
other population level policies. The second is the introduction of epidemiological methods into
medical education and individual patient level decision making.
Evidence based medicine (EBM) is the process of systematically reviewing, appraising and using
clinical research findings to aid the delivery of optimum clinical care to patients.
EBM is the practice of solving the clinical problems in one s practice by judicious and systematic
use of the medical literature. This includes framing questions rightly and searching the right kind of
literature. Thereafter, the available evidence needs to be evaluated for the validity, strength and
effect size. Finally, the results are examined for applicability to the current problem which requires
a detailed knowledge of the clinical setting, patient

Pregnant With Pcos
Can I get pregnant with PCOS?
There are many conditions women can develop that will make it harder for them to conceive. One
of the most common condition is PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome. To learn if you are able to
become pregnant when you have this condition, it is first important to learn more about the
condition.
What is it?
PCOS is a condition that creates small cysts on a woman s ovaries. In many instances, these cysts
are developed because a woman s hormones are out of balance. The symptoms that women face
when they have PCOS will vary. For example, some women may develop acne or have trouble
maintaining a healthy weight.
However, one of the most common issues that women face when they have PCOS is struggling to
have a regular menstrual cycle. When you are not able to ovulate regularly, it is extremely difficult
for you to become pregnant. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To do this, you should use either a basal thermometer or an ovulation predictor kit. Both of these
items are extremely easy to use and will help you determine when you are ovulating.
Tracking your ovulation cycle has a couple of different benefits for women who are suffering
from PCOS. First, it helps you to determine if your treatment is working because it will let you
know if you start ovulating. Also, it can help make it easier for you to conceive because you will
know when the best time to have intercourse is. When you test positive for ovulation, you should
begin having intercourse every other day for several days.
Women with PCOS are able to become pregnant fairly frequently. Usually, with treatment, a
woman should be able to become pregnant just as she would without this type of condition.
However, there are some women who are never able to conceive when they have PCOS. The best
way to determine what your specific chances of conceiving are is to talk with your doctor about your

There are four different types of genetic disorders: single gene mutations, chromosome mutations,
multifactorial, and mitochondria. Single gene mutation, also known as Mendelian disorder, is an
abnormality in the DNA of a gene, and is divided into three categories, dominant, recessive, and X
linked. Chromosomal mutation is a result of extra or lack of a certain number of chromosomes, or
an irregular structure of a chromosome. Multifactorial disorder is caused by multiple genes that are
combined with environmental and by the lifestyle of that particular person. Mitochondrial disorders
are caused by mutations in the DNAof mitochondria, that affects mitochondria function. Although

My Leadership Reflection Paper
Glimpses of Me
The following is a self reflection of my leadership style and the experiences in my careers that
have led me to a Captain with the Henderson Police Department. The intent is to provide the reader
with some insight into why I am the person that I am and what I need to do to improve myself and
in turn the department as a whole.
I was born in May of 1968 in San Diego, California. I was the first of what would eventually
become 3 children. My parents divorced when I was five and I spent my early years with my
mother and sister, visiting my father on the weekends.
In 1980, my mother remarried and we moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where my younger brother
was born, 13 years my junior. My step father was not a father figure by any ... Show more content

There was not much in the way of mentoring or assistance in guiding my career, but being new and
wanting to please, I worked hard and did what I was asked, even if I did not like the way it was
asked.
In 1995 the department decided that it needed a Crime Prevention Unit and I was selected to design
and implement this unit. They failed to mention that I was the unit and would be doing it by myself.
Based on the success I had in the Crime Prevention Unit, I was asked to create a Crime Analysis
Unit and then asked to implement Computer Forensics into our Investigations Bureau. During all
of these assignments, I worked as an individual and answered to a supervisor, who was uninvolved
as long as I did not cause them issues up the chain and obtained results.
The problem with this was that I learned to depend on no one and developed patterns that
prevented me from learning how to deal with and in turn lead others. If a project missed a
deadline it was my fault. I had the timelines, the due dates, and where the project was in my head
at all times. There was no need to determine how vacations, sick leave or any other scheduling
issue would interfere with the completion of a project. I never had to learn how to ask another
person to pick up the pace, provide a status check, handle additional workload, etc. Basically, I was
a one man show, which as I moved up the ranks of my department, turned into a weakness as I had
not developed those interpersonal

The Gospel Of John And The Writing Of His Gospel
Reading through the Gospel of John can bring up many questions about the fourth canonical
book and the writing of his gospel. Some of those questions have answers and some do not. In
this essay we will take a look at some of them that has biblical answers. The first question is did
John write the gospel bearing his name? Second, who was the audience that he was writing to?
Third, what was the purpose of John writing the gospel?
Did John write the gospel bearing his name? In the gospel of John it never provides the name of the
author. There are no other indications in the bible either. There are two important factors that tell us
that John is the author. In the Gospel of John it identifies the author as the disciple whom Jesus
loved. This likely pointed to John and there are three reasons. First, John was one of the twelve
disciples, he was a witness of the actual events (John 21:14). He was part of the inner circle of
the disciples because Mary told him first of the resurrection (John 20:1 10). John was
distinguished from others in the book. The Gospel of John was discovered around AD 135.
However, some scholars think that it was written (AD 70) when Jerusalem was destroyed. This
writer believes that AD 85 90 is the more accepted time for the writing of the Gospel of John.
Who was the audience that he was writing to? John was writing to the church, I believe that he was
also writing to the people who did not believe. John focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. The

After four replicants escape slavery on an off world colony and kill Deckard s replacement
when he investigates their attempted break in of Tyrell Corporation headquarters, the chief of
police forces Deckard out of retirement to solve the problem . To understand why these
replicants wanted to break into Tyrell Corporation it is necessary to explain the structure and
creation of replicants. Replicants are similar in appearance to humans in every conceivable way.
However, they are stronger both mentally and physically, also having superior reaction skills
and the inability to feel pain. The structure of the replicant brain is very similar to the human
brain. Replicants have above average intelligence and feel emotions in the same way that people
do. They are all capable of love, hatred, anger, jealousy and remorse (all exhibited throughout the
movie). To safeguard against the possibility of replicants replacing humans as the dominant
species, Doctor Eldon Tyrell, head of Tyrell Corporation, programmed a precautionary 4 year
lifespan into the replicant mind. The four replicants, acting as humans would, escape from the off
world to seek their creator in hopes of finding a way to extend their lives. Given Deckard s

  • 3. America Needs To Preserve Natural Resources Natural Resource Conservation In 1964, at the signing of the final Wilderness Act, President Lyndon B. Johnson said, If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them something more than the miracles of technology (Famous Quotes). The Wilderness Act started with Theodore Roosevelt in 1901, who conserved 230 million acres of public land. The Act created the National WildernessPreservation System (NWPS), which protects wilderness areas designated for preservation in their natural condition. Even though well planned programs of preservation could cease the usage of nonrenewable natural resources, the conservation of the wilderness and natural resources through laws and National/State Parks is the best approach to saving the land. Since 1964, the NWPS believe that preservation, not conservation, is the best approach to saving natural resources. According to David Newton, a specialist in life sciences, if the government prevent the cutting,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pipelines, similar to the Keystone Pipeline, stretch for miles under the earth s surface. Oil is toxic to living things and if leaked, can destroy crops and like the oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, contaminate fresh water springs, causing life forms to either get sick or die. If the government had a better handle over the entirety of its land, the country would become a considerably better place to live. The debate over preservation and conservation of the natural resources has been going on for almost a hundred years, with little conclusion. The government of the United States, along with advocates from each state, need to reach a consensus to provide methods of conservation to the country that prevents wasteful usage of nonrenewable and natural resources and leaves wilderness for later generations to ... • 5. The Aspects Of Discrimination In The Workplace Introduction Discrimination, it is such a strong word that has many meanings. It can be referred to as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex (Merriam Webster). It is a topic that most people do not want to face the facts that people still have to face discrimination in the workplace to this very day. Since 2011, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission [EEOC] has received over 45,000 complaints that are directly related to racial discrimination (Gaille, 2017). Discrimination should be a thing of the past it should not be an issue that someone has to get up every day and face in their place of work. We need to learn how to treat each other based their own personality instead of a group as a whole. Discrimination is not a dirty world and once people learn to not be so afraid of talking about it and learning how to address it, then discrimination in the workplace will become a thing of the past, where it belongs. Background Being a Hispanic female, I am always intrigued about how discrimination is still a huge issue. I want to be in a workplace where people are just judged by their work performance and not the color of their skin, gender, or sexual preference. I currently work in a department of all men and I love that my manager gives me the same kind of hard trailers that he gives to all the men he does not give me easy trailers just because I am a female. Critical Study of Animal Attacks and Government Policy Jungles are calling: Critical Study of animal attacks and government policy We are fond of progress, mines, speedy trains, luxurious homes, and of smooth roads and at the same time we want a peace of mind where we can take a rest for few days in the jungles or in remote area from the chaotic and tensed urban life. That clearly shows human being has fond of development as well as environment. Over to the time this fact is accepted that sustainable development and protection of environment are two side of one coin. Recent incidents shows that supporters of both the side are conflicting with each other like these are enemies of each other s. Recent statistics from Maharashtra shows that compensation amount which is given to the victims of the animal attack is too high and that can be wisely and effectively invested into the precautionary measures and for the rehabilitation of the animals. Many animals like elephants, tigers, peacock etc. are getting unnatural death because of trains in many areas of country. We are using the jungles to build dams, railway tracks and many things which are for the development of the human fraternity, but at the same time we are not thoughtful about water places, ways of the animals and which are resulted into the attack of the animals on people. Even then no one is serious about preserving jungles. • 7. Statement Of Purposes In Journalism Ezra Pound once said that literature is news that stays news. For me, literature is the very essence of the enduring power of any great work of art. In journalism industry, it plays an important and fundamental role in news reporting and communication. Journalism, flourished by the news that constantly changes around this globe, is an ultra competitive modern media market that needs versatile, multimedia journalists with cutting edge academic and vocational skills, to influence people and the world. • 9. A Major Area China s Air Pollution Effects On The... A major area China s air pollution effects is the environment. With this in mind a way the pollution damages the environment is through acid rain ( Air pollution in China ). Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides go high into the atmosphere to combine with oxygen to form the heavy pollutant known as acid rain (epa.gov). Acid rain easily dissolves in water, and when mixed with other pollutants in China s atmosphere, can contaminate the soil and water sources. One third of China s water is unusable in the industry and agriculture because of contamination (Kahn Yardley). That is concerning because water is used for a lot of things in the world and if it can be contaminated, the contamination might spread to wildlife. Acid rain is a really common issue the air pollutioncauses in China. Another subject with the environment is how the air pollutionhas affected the world. It has pervaded through the air to neighboring countries including Korea, Japan, and some parts of North America ( Air pollution in China ). This causes some other countries to worry about China s ignorance towards the problem, because it has large potential to pervade the world. On the other end of the effects, the heavy air pollution in China causes a variety of health problems. The air pollution in china greatly increases the cases of cancer, respiratory diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, a weakening immune system, and a reduced lung function ( Air pollution in China ). • 10. Analysis Of The Scholarly Article Offshore Aquifers By... In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff. They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks, buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully, the entire water supplycould be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would be comparable to drilling oil ... Like other genes, single nucleotide polymorphism in miRNA genes can affects their function at different levels, such as miRNA transcription, maturation and target specificity. Our study is the first report of mir 23a, mir155 and mir 196a2 polymorphism in the iranian MS patients. In this case control study we examined the impact of functional mir 155 rs767649, mir196a2 rs11614913 and miR 23a rs3745453 polymorphism on MS risk in a sample of Isfahan population. Saumet et al. in 2008 observed that miR 23a~27a~24 2 is directly repressed by the PML RARA oncogene. also in some study upregulation of miR 23a has been observed in cancers(22). Considerable up regulation of miR 23a was reported by Meng and Gottardo in human bladder cancer and in malignant cholangiocytes compared to normal tissues. Furthermore, Mi et al. in their study showed that miR 23a was among several other miRNAs that have been differentially expressed between acute myeloid leukemia (AMLs) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALLs). In addition, up regulation of miR 23a/b along with miR 24 has also been identified in osteoblast cell line (20,21). An exonic MiR 155 with rs767649 (T/A) polymorphism in the upstream region of the pre miR 155 gene is transcribed from the B cell integration cluster (BIC) that is located on chromosome 21. There are two modern works that represent these ideas to society , Divergent and The Hunger Games. Since pizza A has both a length and width of 5 inches, you can multiply 2 by 10 to get a perimeter of 20 inches. To find the perimeter of pizza B, you can also use the same formula. Since pizza B has a length of 4 inches and a width of 8 inches, you can multiply 2 by 12 to get a perimeter of 24 inches. To find the circumferenceof pizza C, you can use the formula a = pi (d), as d represents diameter. A Native Conformation Of Protein And Aggregation Of Proteins A native conformation of protein is only marginally stable than unfolded states, and most of proteins are prone to aggregate in liquid state to form non native supra structures. The loss of unique globular structures and aggregation of proteins are problematic in biopharmaceutical formulations due to the reduction of therapeutic potency and the possibility of inducing undesired immune responses[1]. For several decades, it has been pursued to develop formulation methods of preserving the proteinstability. One of effective way to improve protein stability is mixing cosolvents in protein water system[2, 3]. The present of excipient molecules such as salts, carbohydrates, amino acids, and surfactants change the equilibrium of protein denaturation and aggregation[4 10]. A great interest has been raised in understanding of the effects of excipients on proteins in an effort to find ideal formulation recipes[11]. One of fundamental concept in addressing the impact of excipients on proteins is their preferential interactions in the system[12 16]. The interactions of additives can be attractive or repellent to proteins, resulting the concentration of cosolvents in the local domain near proteins differs from that in the bulk solution. Such a discrete population of cosolvents influences the thermodynamic properties of the protein inducing a significant change in conformational or colloidal stability. The technique uses electricity to form an exceptionally fine liquid aerosol. Other techniques that were used before electrospray used gas to form these aerosols for analyses. Electrospray is particularly useful over using gas because it is a soft ionization technique. Soft ionization techniques ionize the sample with minor fragmentation of the molecule, giving an observable molecular ionfor the mass spectrometer to measure. The droplets contain a mixture of the solvent it was dissolved in and the analyte. Once the cloud of tiny droplets, the aerosol, is created and expelled from the nozzle the solvent present in the droplet starts to evaporate from the surface of the highly charged small droplet. The electrospray instrument can be heated to aid in the evaporation of said solvent creating a highly charged droplet that is reaching its Rayleigh limit, the surface tension on the droplet cannot maintain the charge. However, as the solvent evaporates the distance between the charged droplets are decreasing as a function of solvent present. As the droplets are subjected to a higher force of electrostatic repulsion they become more and more unstable as a droplet. Once the electrostatic repulsion becomes higher than that of the surface tension of the droplet it will undergo Coulomb fission. The basic idea here is that the original highly charged droplet will become smaller as the solvent evaporates off until it becomes so small that it cannot handle the charge present and the droplet will burst. The droplet will burst because it will need to dissipate the charge present. The original droplet will burst into smaller droplets that are less charged and more stable than the original droplet. Maximal oxygen uptake or Vo2max is the highest rate at which the oxygen can be taken up and utilized by the body during severe exercise (Bassett Howley, 2000). Vo2max is wide ly used both in sports and clinical practice and its measurement allows us to assess cardi orespiratory fitness, one of the most powerful markers of health (Mayorga Vega, Aguilar Soto Viciana 2015; Bruce, Kusumi Hosmer 1973). Vo2max also provides essential di agnostic and prognostic information for clinical populations, such as patients with heart failure (Sartor, Vernillo, de Morree, et al., 2013). The most precise method for the assessment of maximal oxygen consumption is the direct measurement which is considered the gold standard (Noonan Dean, 2000). However, the use of this method is limited in several settings such as in sports clubs, schools, or in large scale research studies (Pescatello American College of Sports Medicine, 2014) because it requires appropriate and expensive equipment, supervision by trained personnel and a max imal level of exertion which cannot be achieved by all the individuals and especially those who may be limited by pain, fatigue, abnormal gait, impaired balance or those with cardio vascular problems(Evans, Ferrar, Smith, et al., 2015). There are notable depictions of a sense of entrapment among protagonists in works such as Alice Munro s Dimension and Train. In these short stories, the central characters, Doree and Jackson suffer from a sensation of feeling trapped, due to their life experiences, which ultimately leads them becoming motivated to go onto the next chapter of their lives. There are overlapping themes and writing styles in each story, therefore accentuating the similarities between the experiences of Doree and Jackson, and bring the two stories closely together, evoking strong emotions and pathos within the reader. Thematically, Munro shows parallel ones in both Dimension and Train, with the most prominent ones being isolation, and relationships with family members and its affiliation with sexuality and gender. Munro s writing style rings identical in both stories as well, as each one incorporates the use of flashbacks, once again implementing a way to compare the characters, as the flashbacks provide explanations for being emotionally confined. Lastly, a prominent technique used is the way in which each story ends abruptly, stimulating a response in the reader of wanting more to the story, as the endings both foreshadow a start to a new life, although Doree breaks free whereas Jackson seemingly follows his cycle as a result from feeling trapped. Psychoactive Drugs Can Be Defined As Any Chemical Substance Psychoactive drugs can be defined as any chemical substance, whether it be of a synthetic or of an organic nature, used with the purpose of altering an individual s psychological state of mind, mood or perception (Gossop, 1993, cited in Saggers Gray, 1998). According to Fleckenstein, Hanson Venturelli (2014), drugs are allocated into two categories consisting of illegal and legal. Illegal drugs usually consist of hallucinogenic substances such as marijuana (however, can be used for medical reasons), crack cocaine, ecstasy and others. The law prohibits use of these substances and can also result in social stigma. On the other hand, legal drugs consist of substances such as coffee, tobacco, alcohol and over the counter (OTC) drugs, to a high extent these drugs are usually socially accepted and the effects are inconspicuous if used in moderation. Statistics of drug use amongst youth in the UK According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NHI) (2012a), deaths regarding drug use has doubled since the 1980 s, furthermore it is stated that there are more illnesses and disabilities from drug abuse than any other avoidable health condition. There are many reasons why young people may choose to indulge in the risky behaviour that is drug use. Individuals may feel pressured by their peers, take this action out of curiosity or use it as a method for dealing with physiological or psychological problems (Better Health, 2012). Health education programs are being implemented in schools that will teach about the dangers of smoking and passive smoking (Williams, 1987). This is a preventative measure to decrease the amount of people in society who are smoking and prevent children from picking up this habit. Another health disparity is ethnic background. A study found that Asian women are referred for late treatment for a breast lump compared to Caucasian women (Winship, 1997). Part of this disparity is the disbelief that Asian women can/will develop breast cancer (Winship, 1997). Hospitals and medical professionals also contribute to this disparity with ignorance towards minority cultures and lack of interpreters (Winship, 1997). There must be changes implemented to medical and nursing training as well (Winship, 1997). Medical manufacturers have been delayed with responding to the needs of ethnic minorities such as a providing a variety of shades for prosthetics (Winship, 1997). There is a need for strategically targeted educational material that will educate Asian women and women of other ethnic backgrounds about the risks of breast cancer or even developing any form of cancer (Winship, 1997). The reason for this lies in its functions, which were fundamentally pervasive and intrusive, involving countless informants and the widespread surveillance of society against dissent or perceived threats to the regime. Because of its politically preservative function, the Securitates reputation has become inseparable from Ceausescu s regime. But in order for the impact of this security service to be understood, some of its functions must be explored. He beginned his experiment by placing an ad in the newspaper calling out for males that were willing to be part of the experiment, 70 individuals answered the ad. Every individual had to go through a background check to check for mental issues or past drug or alcohol use. In the end only 24 students were chosen (McLeod). Improvisation also had a featured role, and soloists would play while the rest of the band, aside from the rhythm section, dropped out or played arranged background lines. POPULARITY OF SWING MUSIC One explanation for swing music s popularity is that its driving intensity and abandon represented pleasure and freedom in a time when the country was steeped in hard times. The Great Depression caused Americans to suffer, and dancing to swing music was a way for people to forget their worries. Swing music featured a section of three or four trumpeters, three or four trombonist, five saxophonists who often doubled on clarinets, a piano, a bassist instead of a tuba player, a guitarist, and a drummer.
