The Effect Of Solar And On Earth
Most solar storms produce a variety of effects on our planet. The intensity of a solar storm increase
gradually, the storm can begin to develop the capacity to create a major disaster on Earth. The variety
of intensity of solar storm is like the difference between being hit with a tropical rainstorm and being
devastated by a Category 5 hurricane. Oak Ridge National Laboratories estimated that only a solar
storm just slightly stronger than the 13 March 1989 storm would have the capacity to produce a
cascading blackout involving the entire Northeastern sector of the United States and other effect on
the terrestrial biological systems. So the question is what are the components of Solar Flares? How
does it cause damages? What are they? Are there any measures to mitigate the risks? This paper
dissects and analyzes the various threats created by Great solar storms and provide some Theorell
experiences and research details that entail the phenomena and its effects.
Solar Flares:
Definition and Impacts Introduction
Solar storms consist of three major components: solar flares, solar proton events (SPEs) and coronal
mass ejections (CMEs). CMEs can interact with Earth s magnetic field to produce a geomagnetic
storm. Not all solar storms produce all three elements but the largest solar storms tend to. (James. A
Maruesk 2007) Recent scientific information indicates that an extreme solar storm cycle activity
producing Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GIC) is predicted to

In short, the guidance of this project will provide further understanding of a successful organisation.
1.2 Area of Research
The areas of this research will be based on the internal and external business environment of the
organisation. Having a big picture of the organisation will helps the senior executive to understand of
where the business is headed and what actions might be aligned with the business goals (Armour,
Kaisler et al. 1999). The big picture will also helps the senior executive in understanding which action
or decision can be considered in order to support the business. The clear mind of how the business
connects to and serves the overall purpose of the business is crucial in order to motivate every
individual to work synergistically within the organisation for the success of the business (Stimpert and
Duhaime 1997).
There are a total of six areas that will be the main research areas in this project. There are corporate
responsibilities and sustainability; public interest; marketplace; stakeholder engagement; corporate
governance; and environment. This six topics will then lead to the discussion of the organisation goals
and objectives; organisation strategies; financial status; marketing plan; leadership of the organisation;

Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper
Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper
There is an argument that states that Anne Moody s tale in Coming of Age in Mississippi is a more
optimistic tale then that of Jurgis Rutkis in The Jungle and vice versa. This is not the case. When you
take the time to analyze both story, you come to find that both have the same pessimistic core. The
only difference is the character Jurgis was optimist throughout most of the beginning despite his
circumstances yet in the end he loses all hope while Anne throughout was a realist who was
determined to succeed.
I feel that Anne Moody story is a blunt open description of how hard live was for Blacks.
Anne never minced words when it came to the events that took place in her life; a lot ... Show more

She was determined to seek out equality. These realities started when she became aware of the
differences in how Blacks are treated with in their race how light skinned were treated better than dark
skinned. Raymond was going with a yellow woman at the same time he was going with Mama. All of
his people wanted him to marry her. They didn t want him to marry
Mama, who wasn t yellow and who was stuck with the three of us. This type of racism is prevalent in
the south during the pre Civil Rights period. Ms. Moody learns how badly White
People can treat Black by the death of Emmit Till.
When faced with the facts of Moody s life, it is not hard to figure out where the inspiration and
optimism comes in to play. A person can find hope when thinking about the dedication and diligence
she took in being a good student from elementary through high school.
The optimism comes from looking at how she scrapes together the money it took to go to college.
Even though she might have grown up with a hard life, she fought for different ways to better it. Her
diligence to have a better life is best described by her commitment to the Civil
Rights movement. She was willing to go the distance to get the equal rights she felt was owed to her.
Look at how Moody kept pressing to get blacks in Mississippi to register to vote. At the time, little
more the 5% of African Americans in Mississippi were registered voters. This is in large part

current environmental impact, alternative energy sources like solar and wind powered energy are
becoming more prominent as eco friendly alternatives to current unsustainable methods of power such
as fossil fuels (BBC, n.d.) The purpose of this report is to identify the best suited alternative energy
sources for a call center based on information the company has provided such as the area and space
available, average wind speed, solar energy reach and average ground temperatures. 2. Description of
current situation The call center is in a rural location and consumes 200MWh of energy annually;
150MWh of this is used for space heating. Electrical storage heating is currently being used, with each
off peak unit of electricity costing £0.06 (April 2008). The company now wishes to reduce their
environmental impact and if possible, energy costs. The following report will discuss several

The Divine Comedy vs. Paradise Lost
Full Circle – from Sin to Salvation
Great works of literature have been written throughout history. However, The Divine Comedy and
Paradise Lost have the inept ability to stir the soul and cause a person to examine and re examine their
life. The brilliant descriptions, use of imagery, metaphor and simile give a person a vivid picture of the
creation of man and the possibilities for life in the hereafter. This is done, as a person is able to see,
full circle, from the beginning of time to the end of time, the consequences of turning away from God.
The ability to see a life full circle is apparent through the examination of both of these poems.
Although written many years ago, the morals and principles that they convey ring very true ... Show

two that, just above the midpoint of each shoulder, joined the first (found in The Divine Comedy, in
Canto 34 (Canto XXXIV) of the Inferno) On Easter morning, Virgil and Dante escape Hell after
climbing down the body of Satan and climbing through the opening known as the earth s center of
gravity.
After a short hike, they arrive at ante purgatory, which was the area designated for those who died
without receiving full repentance or without receiving the holy sacrament before their death. After
ante purgatory, they enter purgatory, where an angel inscribed the letter P seven times on Dante s
forehead. Each letter represented one of the seven deadly sins. Those seven sins include pride, envy,
anger, sloth, avarice, gluttony, and lust. Each P will be erased as Dante travels through the areas that
were reserved for those who had committed each of the seven sins. As each P is erased by an angel
from Dante s forehead, the journey becomes easier and easier for Dante.
In Purgatory, even though people inhabit different levels, they are able to eventually move on to
heaven if they receive enough prayer to rid them of their sins. The seventh terrace is the highest level
of purgatory. When Virgil and Dante finally reach that terrace, they must pass through a

Advantages Of Keeping Opossums Away
Opossum Prevention Tips: How to Keep Opossums Away
Possums are generally non aggressive creatures, but capable of creating unsanitary environments.
They may even turn violent when diseased! There exists several methods to keep them away and this
involves simply making the setting less attractive. You could also put traps to imprison possums to be
able to physically get rid of them.
Here is what you must know concerning keeping opossums away. Opossums, as a general rule, stay
among the unmistakable North America animals just as they remain the lone marsupial living on the
continent. While they were native solely to the southern part of America before, they now are an
everyday sight right through the Southern and Eastern states of America. ... Show more content on

Do not allow your cat or dog, however, to roam freely through the backyard for this purpose. They can
end up fighting with violent possums and other daring animals if you do so. Instead, collect hair or fur
after grooming your pet and place the collected hair inside small net bags. Then, hang these bags or
directly scatter the hair around sections where possums are frequently seen.
3. Spread anything with a potent smell
Mothballs, garlic and ammonia have scents that these animals tend to run away from. So, pour a bit of
ammonia inside a coffee tin with a cover and place a cloth inside. Then, bring an end of the cloth up
an opening cut in the cover. The cloth will function by way of a wick in dispersing the odor.
Place a container in each area where the possums meet. You may also scatter mothballs surrounding
areas where you noticed activities of possums. You could enclose the mothballs inside a netting bag as
an alternative to scattering them individually all over the place.
As for garlic, place a piece of mashed garlic inside any vicinity that you wish your neighborhood
animals to keep away from. Crushing garlic stays better than using whole ones since mashing

Causes and Effects of Adult Obesity Essay
Introduction Although many individuals are uncertain about the increasing statistics associated with
obesity, more than seventy percent of men and virtually sixty two percent of women within the United
States adult population are overweight or obese (Wilmore, Costill, Kenney). Obesity refers to the
condition of having an excessive amount of body fat. If an individual s amount of body fat becomes
too excessive, he/she is at a much greater risk of developing life altering diseases such as heart failure,
hypertension, type II diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, etc. (Wilmore, et al., 2008).

Overweight is often misinterpreted as obesity, but it has been proven that individuals such as
bodybuilders and professional athletes can be overweight yet they do not suffer from obesity. Obesity
refers to just excessive body fat whereas overweight refers to excessive body weight including water,
bone, fat, and muscle. A certain amount of fat is needed to store energy, heat insulation, shock
absorption, and other functions, but when men reach more than twenty five percent body fat, and
women reach more than thirty percent they are considered obese. A person s body mass index (BMI)
is measured by dividing body weight in kilograms by the square of body height in meters (Wilmore, et
al., 2008). Individuals who suffer from obesity often experience various symptoms such as difficulty
sleeping, sleep apnea, shortness of breath, gallstones, depression, and skin problems. Sleep apnea
happens when an individual experiences irregular breathing patterns or even loss of breath during
sleep. Gallstones are hard, pebble like deposits that form inside the gallbladder. They appear in many
different sizes and shapes. Some gallstones may be the size of a sand crystal whereas others may be
the size of a golf ball. Depression simply refers to a feeling of overwhelming sadness and a sense of
hopelessness. In addition to obesity leading to other health problems, obesity stems from numerous
causes such as genetic, environmental, and sociological factors. Other

Magnesium s Reaction Lab
c. In analysis of the graphs created from the magnesium s reaction pressure released over time, it
appears that we may have had a possible source of error. According to our T.A., the powder should
have a faster rate of reaction due to its surface area. However, in our experiment, the reaction rates
were found to be similar due to the closeness of the slopes. For the first reaction (trial) of each
magnesium type, we had used 0.2 grams due to a communication error. For the second reaction (trial)
of each magnesium type, we used 0.02 grams. Despite the mass differences, the slopes were very close
to one another but with the ribbon reactions appearing to be faster due to their slightly larger slopes.
The ribbon reactions were shown to have a slope in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Lab Questions
1. The parameter (time frame) that s determined from the slope of the graph at short times is typically
where the rate is bound to be the same over a similar time period. Usually this is within a time interval
where the graph is increasing (or decreasing) at a similar rate without the initial burst or the slowing
down of the rate towards the end.
2. Slope can be used to determine the effect of the magnesium on the reaction rate by how close it is to
the number one, when it is showing an increase in reaction rate. As hypothesized, the magnesium with
the greatest surface area would have the fastest reaction rate. Hence, it would have the greater slope
value as well.
3. Please refer to the graphs at the beginning of the post lab and question 2a. The effect of magnesium
on a reaction rate depends on the magnesium s shape and surface area, greater the surface area, the
faster the reaction rate.
4. If HNO3 was used in place of HCl, I d expect the rate of change to be about the same as both are
strong acids. However, if acetic acid (CH3COOH) were to be used instead of HCl, I d except the
reaction rate to be slower as acetic acid is a weak acid and it will dissociate in the water unlike the

How Does Gwen Harwood Create A Sense Of Belonging
A sense of belonging can be linked to many aspects of life, whether it be to people, places or cultures,
and is often necessary for feeling a sense of happiness through a sense of identity or importance. The
poem In the Park by Gwen Harwood and the short film More by Mark Osborne both show the
positives and the negatives of belonging to people and society as a whole. In the Park and More show
the negatives of belonging and not belonging, the former through a pessimistic tone and choice of
diction, and the latter through repetition and the juxtaposition of colour. More shows the main
character s lack of belonging through the absence of any form of connection to others, with the closest
form of interaction being criticism from its boss. The director uses repetition of dull activities such as
waking up, working and sleeping while maintaining close ups of discouraged facial expressions to
illustrate the lack of meaning in one s life without belonging. In the Park shows the dissatisfaction of
the female main character s life through an ongoing pessimistic tone, which describes her children s
actions with words such as whine , bicker and aimless and associates the children as problems due to
belonging to a family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

counseling, but no terminally ill patients responded.
In 1989 Kevorkian heard the story of David Rivlin, a 38 year old Michigan man who had become a

wanted to be taken off life support, and when Kevorkian heard of his story, he worked on helping him

Rivlin refused Kevorkian s help and used another doctor to remove life support.
Kevorkian then tried to put an ad in a county medical society s bulletin, asking for terminally ill
patients who wanted help in committing suicide. The medical society rejected him, but a local TV

Improper Antibiotic Use Antibiotics have been the answer to many bacterial infections for the past 70
years (Antibiotic/ Antimicrobial Resistance). Antibiotics are medicines used to treat infections or
diseases caused by bacteria ( What are Antibiotics? ). Antibiotics were prescribed to cure many
diseases. Doctors prescribed many antibiotics during World War II. World War II was the start of the
antibiotic era. Just when antibiotics were being greatly produced, bacteria started to evolve and
became resistant to these medicines. What is antibiotic resistance? According to the U.S. Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, Antibiotic resistance occurs when an antibiotic has lost its ability to
effectively control or kill bacterial growth ( General Background ). Improper use of antibiotics causes
antibiotic resistance and has many effects associated with it. People may be drug abusers and this can
cause resistance in the body. Some people will only take antibiotics because they believe it is the only
way they will get better. When a person uses drugs to get rid of a sickness they may start to
overcompensate, but when they do, the drug may have less of an effect because the body has become
so used to the drugs medicine. That is because the bacteria has found a way to avoid the effects of the
antibiotic. The appropriate use of antibiotics, often called antibiotic stewardship, can help preserve the
effectiveness

The Portrayal Analysis Of The Wild Hearts CanT Be Broken
Andrew Young once said, There s no problem on the planet that can t be solved without violence. That
s the lesson of the civil rights movement. Throughout any movement in U.S. history, including the
Civil Rights Movement people had to make sacrifices in order to fight for what they believe to be
right. Some people even lost their lives, which are some of the sacrifices Pink is trying to tell us in her
song, but she never will give up not matter the circumstances. The song, Wild Hearts Can t Be Broken,
relates to the Civil Rights Movement because they both represent how groups of people never gave up

Some examples of these were: African Americans can t play together, they can t attend the same

point of death. A couple of the important deaths were Emmett Till who got killed after he flirted with a
white girl, and George Lee who tried to expose some of the Jim Crow Laws, and died during one of
his protests. These deaths were quite common until a man named, Martin Luther King Jr. came into
the picture. At the beginning of his campaign he wanted three things to happen: Bring publicity to
major civil rights activities and efforts, emphasize and encourage the importance of non violent protest
and resistance, provide leadership to the African American civil rights movement. He did just that
throughout the Civil Rights Movement, and was a major contributor to the ending of the movement in
1968. In both the Civil Rights Movement and the song Wild Hearts Can t Be Broken, they both had to

Importance Of Political Society In Modern Society
The American federal framework enables state and local governments to try different things with
various sorts of political establishments, electoral instruments and creative public policies. The
political societies of these legislatures help characterize the legitimate exercises of governments, how
they should work and who ought to partake. The investigation of state and local political culture in the
United States has been ruled by Daniel Elazar s model of the moralistic, individualistic and
traditionalistic subcultures. All the more as of late another political culture has risen in view of
economic and social changes. The investigation of political culture has been generally utilized, yet it
isn t without critics who contend that different components have more impact on approaches at the
state and local level, and that culture is excessively troublesome, making it impossible to characterize.
Importance of Different Political Subcultures into Modern Society Daniel Elazar first estimated in
1966 that the United States could be separated into three unmistakable political societies: moralistic,
individualistic, and traditionalistic, in his book American Federalism: A View from the States . The
dissemination of these societies all through the United States is ascribed to the transient patterns of
immigrants who settled in and spread out the nation over from the east toward the west coast. These

The Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism was released in 1967, giving
recommendations to the federal government on steps to be taken for equality across ethnicities. The
primary recommendation was for the implantation of a policy for official bilingualism, making both
English and French of equal importance in Canada (Language rights and judicial wrongs: Official
bilingualism jurisprudence in Canada s provincial courts. Pg 11). The report also recommended that
bilingualism be increased in all of the provinces. Once Pierre Trudeau gained office one of his first
things on his agenda was to bring in the Official Languages Act (OLA) in 1969, making both French
and English equally recognized in Canada. Trudeau did not support the nationalists in Quebec with
their goal of separatism and this was his way to make French Canadians feel they were of greater
importance to the county (Language rights and judicial wrongs: Official bilingualism jurisprudence in
Canada s provincial courts. Pg 12). Trudeau saw that this policy should strengthen national unity in
Canada through various ways. It was thought that making the French speaking of equal importance as
the English speaking in Canada it would reduce the rising pressure coming from Quebec to separate
from Canada.. The bilingualism was also a hope that across Canada communications would become
easier due to the knocking

Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Analysis
The symbols in the Lord of the Flies all change meaning throughout the novel. As the boys change and
develop, the symbols change with them. Some may become more positive or more negative and some
may change meaning completely. Ralph, Piggy, and Jack all adjust to being stranded on the island
differently and therefore react to and treat the objects on the island differently. With Jack s
development into savagery throughout the novel, his carelessness is evident in his lack of
acknowledgement of symbols that are important to Ralph and Piggy who look at this experience more
logically and optimistically. One symbol that changed dramatically throughout the novel is the fire.
The fire in the Lord of the Flies is introduced as a symbol for hope, develops into destruction and is
finalized as a representation of salvation.
In the beginning of the Lord of the Flies, the fire is used as a form of hope for rescue and survival.
When the boys first arrive on the island, Ralph decides that rescue should be their main focus. The
boys build a signal fire to attract any passing ships. He puts Jack and his hunters in charge of keeping
the fire going. One day the hunters let the fire burn out. When a ship passes without seeing the fire,
Ralph panics because they have lost a chance at being rescued. Golding describes the aftermath of the
ship passing, The fire was out, smokeless and dead; the watchers were gone. A pile of unused fuel lay
ready (Golding 68). When this incident occurs, Ralph

The Effects Of Environmental Damage, Climate Change,...
The main ideas of the book are societal impact of environmental damage, climate change, hostile
neighbors, withdrawal of support of friendly neighbors, and cultural responses. Some environmental
responses were successful because a lot of ancient societies such as the Anasazi and their neighbors
started constructing a very extensive irrigation systems. It was successful because the anasazian s were
living at higher elevation and cropping on the lower lands and they needed a way to transport water to
there. Throughout the book Diamond used many different sources. Especially in chapter 1 he uses six
different sources. One of these sources is a personal story of him and Montana. He also uses stories
from Stan Falkow, Rick Laible, Chip Pigmen, Tim Huls, and John Cook all in chapter one. In chapter
five of the book Diamonds shows multiple pictures of old societies such as rwanda, eastern islands,
Anasazi, Maya, Greenland, New Guiena, Dominican Republic, China, and Australia. These pictures
are an excellent source because it shows a sense of climate in the pictures and you can see the type of
regions he s talking about. He also has pictures of current societies such as Los angeles, California he
shows a picture from a helicopter that shows a interchange of freeways. It shows the advancements
that we now have in our society it shows the advancements as far as car but in my eyes I also see al
the pollution they cause in the environment. In this book diamond uses his examples as

Political Art Ideas By Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels

Art 006 Final
Essay #1: Political Art Ideas There was a time in history where oppression was very present in
Geremy, specifically dealing with the Natzis and communism. It was a time of great struggles for
different social classes. Once history starts to form new movements, culture and art also become
affected. Due to this time communism in the 1900s made Marxism come about. It is a movement in
art associated with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels that looks at the different levels of class and the
conflict in each one. Not only in Russia was there problems within the governmental structure, it is a
worldwide problem. The Mexican Murals are also a reflection of this idea. Therefore, Russian
Constructivism and the Mexican Mural movement employ Marxism as a theory. First, Russian
Constructivism was created by a group of Russians in the 1990s. In general their work is geometrical
and non mimetic. Some of the important figures of this time would be Tatlin, Malerich, Lissitzky, and
Kandinsky. They wrote the, Programme of the First Working Group of Constructives which has three
main points. One that Scientific communism is heavily influenced by the theory of historical
materialism. Two, real experimentation is important. Three, there are three disciplines known as
Tectonics, Faktura, and Construction. Finally Russian
Constructivists declare war on art which relates to the communistic ideas of Marxism. Additionally,

Hospital Acquired Pneumonia Research Paper
Ventilator associated pneumonia is defined as pneumonia arising 48 hours or more after endotracheal
intubation whereas pneumonia is defined as the presence of new lung infiltrate plus clinical evidence
that the infiltrate is of an infectious origin, which include the new onset of fever, purulent sputum,
leukocytosis, and decline in oxygenation. Together with hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) are the
most common hospital acquired infections. In a prevalence study in USA, they accounted for 22% of
all hospital acquired infections [1]. VAP is the commonest nosocomial infection in the Intensive Care
Unit
(ICU) and in a recent survey from the USA, VAP affected 10% of patients requiring mechanical
ventilation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Host factors, the virulence of bacteria, and most importantly the presence of an endotracheal tube
determine the development of VAP. The tube is detrimental not only because it provides the conduit
for bacteria, but also because it abolishes the cough reflex.
Bacteria get access to the lungs via microaspiration and through the biofilm that is formed in the inner
surface of the endotracheal tube or leakage of secretions around the cuff. Spread from an adjacent site
of infection or via the blood represent rare causes of VAP. Pathogenic bacteria usually replace
endogenous flora and colonize the nasopharynx, the oropharynx, the sinuses and the stomach
subsequently collecting inside and around the endotracheal tube. Positive pressure ventilation also
contributes to VAP development by thrusting bacteria into the airways. Antibiotic exposure, severity
of underlying disease and previous surgery have been implicated as host factors [5,8].
Various strategies have been applied for the prevention of VAP, each with different levels of evidence.
Preventive measures against VAP development can be divided into five distinct groups:

The Contribution Of Servant Leadership
It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings
one to aspire to lead. What is servant leadership? Servant leadership is shown when an individual or
an organization thrives to support others around them and uses their power to make others stronger.
(Robert K. Greenleaf)
16 year old immigrant, John W. Nordstrom came from Sweden, arriving in America with the hope of
starting a better life. 14 years later, he opened a shoe store, the beginning of one of America s leading
fashion lines today. Known for its outstanding customer service, you may know it as Nordstrom. The
founder of this company was one of the many business leaders who made it big in the Klondike Gold
Rush. John W. Nordstrom demonstrated servant leadership by showing his determination through hard
work and developing a philosophy to always deliver customers the best service possible, a foundation
for the company s success today.
John W. Nordstrom was born on February 15th, 1871. His childhood was not a happy one. When he
turned 16, he decided to leave his home country for America. In the first years of his childhood, his
family got along fine. However, after his father s death, his family s lives depended on him and his
siblings. In his autobiography, he recited that his mother expected him to do work that his brother,
who was 10 years older than him could do. I often cried when I had trouble doing things she expected
me to do and couldn t and felt very

The Wal-Mart Case
The week one study is about a case that was considered one of the largest lawsuits in United States
History. The United States Supreme Court had to come to a decision on a class act lawsuit between
1,000,000 female Wal Mart employees and their greatly established employer. The discrimination suit
mainly focused on the lack of promotions amongst the plaintiffs and the unequal pay received
compared to their male colleagues. Unfortunately, in this case, despite the statistics generally
exploiting the difference in compensation and advancement amongst the two sexes fell in favor of the
retail giant. The decision was made mainly on plaintiffs lack of ability to demonstrate the
discrimination that each individual encountered while employed with the large retailer. This reflective
paper will look further into the court process, the opinions of a Supreme Court Judge, and the
jurisdiction of the federal court.
During the reading of the Textbook, The Legal Environment of Business, 7th edition , it was
discovered that the U.S. Supreme Court heard this case by it initially being decided by a lower court.
The plaintiff party then displeased with the decision filed a writ of certiorari, which asks for the U.S
Supreme Court to view their records. There are then at least four reasons for the U.S Supreme Court to
decide to select the case: the case has to present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Samago Blindness Quotes
In the very beginning of the novel before the story even starts Saramago stats a quote from the Book
of Exhortations If you can see, look. If you can look, observe. The white blindness was used as a
metaphor in the novel for that a country that can not see is one that can no longer look or observe what
is around them. Stripped of an ability, then is forced to change and adapt, turning on survival mode,
stressful nights, these are some of what teenagers do while they re in high school. Saramago shows
how certain social barriers such as age, class and race, for instance, can easily be stripped away if
given the proper circumstances. Blindness should be integrated within the sophomore curriculum as it,

An ecosystem is the dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro organism communities and their
non living environment as a functional unit. Ecosystems are systems through which incoming solar
energy is captured and channelled through a hierarchy of life forms. Each ecosystem has its own
characteristic plant and animal community.
Nature of change refers to the natural or human induced change towards an ecosystem. Humans play a

The Great Barrier Reef is a huge, complex ecosystem located off the east coast of northern
Queensland and is considered as an ecosystem at risk. It stretches approximately 2300km from Papua
New Guinea s Fly River in the north (8⁰S) to Fraser Island in the south (24⁰S) and has become the
largest World Heritage site in the world. It has 1500 of the worlds 13 000 fish species in it area, 200
bird species, 5oo species of seaweed, 600 species of echinoderm, 125 species of shark and ray and
around 360 species of hard coral.
The Great Barrier Reef is a highly active ecosystem. Tropical cyclones are a major source of damage
to this reef system. These storms create great waves that damage corals. They bring large amounts of
fresh water onto the reef though forceful rain. The fresh water alters salinity levels, placing stress on
the corals and other animals. Human s impacts have affected the Reef for thousands of years. Climate
change, oil spills, tourism, overfishing, land clearing, sewage and waste disposal, coral harvesting and
dredging and sand mining have all been major human impacts on the Great Barrier Reef. The impacts
of climate change have affected the climate of northern Australia. The increase in sea surface

Compare And Contrast Roosevelt And Woodrow Wilson
Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were both innovative, progressive presidents. Many of their
policies were similar, focusing on reform, destruction of monopolies and trusts, and improving
conditions of the common American through policy change in Washington. However, both presidents
are remembered in different lights and for vastly different reasons.
Theodore Roosevelt unquestionably had the bigger positive impact on American idealism, as he is
commemorated on Mount Rushmore and considered one of the five great American presidents.
Roosevelt was the naturalist responsible for our national parks, but his policies on military and war
were contradictory to the sensitivities he displayed toward nature. Roosevelt led the Rough Riders in
the Spanish American War, and led the country similarly. Believing in the nationalist sentiment of
creating a sense of pride in American conquest, Roosevelt campaigned for the annexation of Hawaii,
took control of Cuba, and instituted his policy of speak softly, but carry a big stick to strong arm his
way into the creation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a PhD and former president of Princeton University, Wilson had a bit softer of approach to the
presidency. Wilson, like Roosevelt, was a progressive reformer, instituting federal institutes, such as
the Federal Reserve and the Federal Trade Commission, but Wilson had quite the opposite ideas of
war and conquest. Wilson was slow to enter The Great War, and only did so to preserve American life
when Germany began targeting passenger ships carrying American citizens. When America entered
the war and helped a achieve a quick, decisive victory for the Allies, he was hailed overseas as the
hero from the West. His creation of The League of Nations, which was shot down by the Senate
during his infirm years following a stroke, likely could have helped prevent further unrest in European
nations that led to World War

Qualitative Sleep
One of the most important processes of our human body is the qualitative sleep. Many people do not
have enough time to sleep well or lose it because of the daily stress. Did you allow to forget your
normal sleeping pattern? Sometimes your mind just needs to remind it. You are not the first person
who suffers from insomnia.
If the normal rhythm of sleeping time is impaired, our body needs time to regain it. Also, we should be
more patient and create comfortable conditions for it: you can read a book, drink a cup of tea, listen to
calming music, change your sleeping place or position, and relax. Prepare your mind and body, by
repeating positive phrases:
I am sleepy.
I fall asleep easily.
I always sleep deeply.

Yokuts California Case Study
The Yokuts: A California Case Study
The Yokuts inhabited the San Joaquin valley in California. There were over 40 independent groups
and each of them had a distinct name, dialect and territory. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by
mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the
ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal
precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by
waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food,
wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted
for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. The foothills
elevations are higher and cooler and are occupied by some Yokuts groups. They managed their
environment both passively and actively to improve forage for deer, eliminate underbrush growth,
make it easy to traverse, and for hunters as well. Passively, they did religious ceremonies to ensure the
continuation of favorable conditions.
The Yokuts spoke the Penutian language but each mini tribe spoke a different dialect. The earliest
recorded contact with the Europeans was when the Spanish came looking or renegade soldiers.
Spanish expeditions to the San Joaquin took Yokuts to missions but then the United States seized
California from Mexico and the territory got

Drive In Theater Essay
As a mother, I often wonder what all can be done, as a family, where we can go and have a great time.
I imagine going to a drive in theater, the excitement of enjoying a movie in my own way. This is an all
American pastime. My children will have fond memories of everyone driving into the theater, going to
the playground and swinging on a swing while watching their favorite movies. Memories filled with
joy, laughter, milk shakes, eating their favorite junk food, and being able to dress up in a costume of
whatever character is featured in a certain movie. They will want to bring their children, their children
s children to recreate those nostalgic feelings of being able to enjoy a drive in theater. Let s say you
and your sweetheart want a date night. Grab a blanket and some pillows, relax under the stars for a
romantic comedy on our plush green lawn. You ll be able to snuggle up next to your sweetie, the
weather is just perfect, and breezy. Fall in love under the stars, maybe even propose to her. This movie
theater will always keep that memory alive, and in turn you will be able to bring your future children.
Do you want the drive in experience without having to be outside? We have just the solution.
Everyone can come and enjoy our restaurant with car seating and the look of being in a drive in.
Friends and family will come in and sit at one of our 50 style car booths and be able to enjoy a great

The Mexican Mestizo
The ideal Mexican people are defined as the mestizo. The mestizo was turned into a subject of popular
consumption with the aim of spreading Mexican manliness symbolically representing the values and
attitudes of patriarchal figures, and is often pictured with his idealistic female counterpart (Carter 55).
Mexico City developed under a convergence and clashing of cultures existing in one of the most
heavily populated and concentrated cities in the world. It is characterized by fifty six ethnic groups,
divided only by the history of their origin. The major groups that are referenced throughout the history
of Mexico City, and the country as a whole, are known as mestizos, criollos, and Indians. These three
prominent groups, derived from the colonial caste system, are defined as those of mixed native and
European ancestry, the descendants of the Spaniards, and the indigenous people, respectively (Chong
45). It is the existence of this classification system that greatly perpetuates what has become the
mythical identity of modern day Mexico City. The visual language of the national male and female,
the mestizo couple, denotes the selective criteria for prototypical individuals in forming the idealized
nation, validating the exclusion and judgements of a racial and ethnic nature against indigenous people
(Carter 55). The early repression of Mexico s indigenous people under the control of the criollos led to
their exclusion from modern society, and the cultural domination of the

The intensity of a solar storm increase gradually, the storm can begin to develop the capacity to create a major disaster on Earth. The variety of intensity of solar storm is like the difference between being hit with a tropical rainstorm and being devastated by a Category 5 hurricane. Oak Ridge National Laboratories estimated that only a solar storm just slightly stronger than the 13 March 1989 storm would have the capacity to produce a cascading blackout involving the entire Northeastern sector of the United States and other effect on the terrestrial biological systems. So the question is what are the components of Solar Flares? How does it cause damages? What are they? Are there any measures to mitigate the risks? This paper dissects and analyzes the various threats created by Great solar storms and provide some Theorell experiences and research details that entail the phenomena and its effects. Solar Flares: Definition and Impacts Introduction Solar storms consist of three major components: solar flares, solar proton events (SPEs) and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). CMEs can interact with Earth s magnetic field to produce a geomagnetic storm. Not all solar storms produce all three elements but the largest solar storms tend to. (James. • 5. Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper There is an argument that states that Anne Moody s tale in Coming of Age in Mississippi is a more optimistic tale then that of Jurgis Rutkis in The Jungle and vice versa. This is not the case. When you take the time to analyze both story, you come to find that both have the same pessimistic core. The only difference is the character Jurgis was optimist throughout most of the beginning despite his circumstances yet in the end he loses all hope while Anne throughout was a realist who was determined to succeed. I feel that Anne Moody story is a blunt open description of how hard live was for Blacks. Anne never minced words when it came to the events that took place in her life; a lot ... These realities started when she became aware of the differences in how Blacks are treated with in their race how light skinned were treated better than dark skinned. Raymond was going with a yellow woman at the same time he was going with Mama. All of his people wanted him to marry her. They didn t want him to marry Mama, who wasn t yellow and who was stuck with the three of us. This type of racism is prevalent in the south during the pre Civil Rights period. Ms. Moody learns how badly White People can treat Black by the death of Emmit Till. When faced with the facts of Moody s life, it is not hard to figure out where the inspiration and optimism comes in to play. A person can find hope when thinking about the dedication and diligence she took in being a good student from elementary through high school. The optimism comes from looking at how she scrapes together the money it took to go to college. Even though she might have grown up with a hard life, she fought for different ways to better it. Her diligence to have a better life is best described by her commitment to the Civil Rights movement. She was willing to go the distance to get the equal rights she felt was owed to her. Look at how Moody kept pressing to get blacks in Mississippi to register to vote. At the time, little more the 5% of African Americans in Mississippi were registered voters. This is in large part ... • 7. The Divine Comedy vs. Paradise Lost Full Circle – from Sin to Salvation Great works of literature have been written throughout history. However, The Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost have the inept ability to stir the soul and cause a person to examine and re examine their life. The brilliant descriptions, use of imagery, metaphor and simile give a person a vivid picture of the creation of man and the possibilities for life in the hereafter. This is done, as a person is able to see, full circle, from the beginning of time to the end of time, the consequences of turning away from God. The ability to see a life full circle is apparent through the examination of both of these poems. Although written many years ago, the morals and principles that they convey ring very true ... After a short hike, they arrive at ante purgatory, which was the area designated for those who died without receiving full repentance or without receiving the holy sacrament before their death. After ante purgatory, they enter purgatory, where an angel inscribed the letter P seven times on Dante s forehead. Each letter represented one of the seven deadly sins. Those seven sins include pride, envy, anger, sloth, avarice, gluttony, and lust. Each P will be erased as Dante travels through the areas that were reserved for those who had committed each of the seven sins. As each P is erased by an angel from Dante s forehead, the journey becomes easier and easier for Dante. So, pour a bit of ammonia inside a coffee tin with a cover and place a cloth inside. Then, bring an end of the cloth up an opening cut in the cover. The cloth will function by way of a wick in dispersing the odor. Place a container in each area where the possums meet. A certain amount of fat is needed to store energy, heat insulation, shock absorption, and other functions, but when men reach more than twenty five percent body fat, and women reach more than thirty percent they are considered obese. A person s body mass index (BMI) is measured by dividing body weight in kilograms by the square of body height in meters (Wilmore, et al., 2008). Individuals who suffer from obesity often experience various symptoms such as difficulty sleeping, sleep apnea, shortness of breath, gallstones, depression, and skin problems. Sleep apnea happens when an individual experiences irregular breathing patterns or even loss of breath during sleep. Gallstones are hard, pebble like deposits that form inside the gallbladder. They appear in many different sizes and shapes. Some gallstones may be the size of a sand crystal whereas others may be the size of a golf ball. Usually this is within a time interval where the graph is increasing (or decreasing) at a similar rate without the initial burst or the slowing down of the rate towards the end. 2. Slope can be used to determine the effect of the magnesium on the reaction rate by how close it is to the number one, when it is showing an increase in reaction rate. As hypothesized, the magnesium with the greatest surface area would have the fastest reaction rate. Hence, it would have the greater slope value as well. 3. Please refer to the graphs at the beginning of the post lab and question 2a. The effect of magnesium on a reaction rate depends on the magnesium s shape and surface area, greater the surface area, the faster the reaction rate. 4. If HNO3 was used in place of HCl, I d expect the rate of change to be about the same as both are strong acids. • 13. How Does Gwen Harwood Create A Sense Of Belonging A sense of belonging can be linked to many aspects of life, whether it be to people, places or cultures, and is often necessary for feeling a sense of happiness through a sense of identity or importance. The poem In the Park by Gwen Harwood and the short film More by Mark Osborne both show the positives and the negatives of belonging to people and society as a whole. In the Park and More show the negatives of belonging and not belonging, the former through a pessimistic tone and choice of diction, and the latter through repetition and the juxtaposition of colour. More shows the main character s lack of belonging through the absence of any form of connection to others, with the closest form of interaction being criticism from its boss. The director uses repetition of dull activities such as waking up, working and sleeping while maintaining close ups of discouraged facial expressions to illustrate the lack of meaning in one s life without belonging. In the Park shows the dissatisfaction of the female main character s life through an ongoing pessimistic tone, which describes her children s actions with words such as whine , bicker and aimless and associates the children as problems due to belonging to a family. ... Alaina Thomas English Comp. 2 Professor Sheets 3/2/2016 Improper Antibiotic Use Antibiotics have been the answer to many bacterial infections for the past 70 years (Antibiotic/ Antimicrobial Resistance). Antibiotics are medicines used to treat infections or diseases caused by bacteria ( What are Antibiotics? ). Antibiotics were prescribed to cure many diseases. Doctors prescribed many antibiotics during World War II. World War II was the start of the antibiotic era. Just when antibiotics were being greatly produced, bacteria started to evolve and became resistant to these medicines. What is antibiotic resistance? According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Antibiotic resistance occurs when an antibiotic has lost its ability to effectively control or kill bacterial growth ( General Background ). Improper use of antibiotics causes antibiotic resistance and has many effects associated with it. People may be drug abusers and this can cause resistance in the body. Some people will only take antibiotics because they believe it is the only way they will get better. When a person uses drugs to get rid of a sickness they may start to overcompensate, but when they do, the drug may have less of an effect because the body has become so used to the drugs medicine. That is because the bacteria has found a way to avoid the effects of the antibiotic. The appropriate use of antibiotics, often called antibiotic stewardship, can help preserve the effectiveness ... A couple of the important deaths were Emmett Till who got killed after he flirted with a white girl, and George Lee who tried to expose some of the Jim Crow Laws, and died during one of his protests. These deaths were quite common until a man named, Martin Luther King Jr. came into the picture. • 21. Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Analysis The symbols in the Lord of the Flies all change meaning throughout the novel. As the boys change and develop, the symbols change with them. Some may become more positive or more negative and some may change meaning completely. Ralph, Piggy, and Jack all adjust to being stranded on the island differently and therefore react to and treat the objects on the island differently. With Jack s development into savagery throughout the novel, his carelessness is evident in his lack of acknowledgement of symbols that are important to Ralph and Piggy who look at this experience more logically and optimistically. One symbol that changed dramatically throughout the novel is the fire. The fire in the Lord of the Flies is introduced as a symbol for hope, develops into destruction and is finalized as a representation of salvation. In the beginning of the Lord of the Flies, the fire is used as a form of hope for rescue and survival. When the boys first arrive on the island, Ralph decides that rescue should be their main focus. The boys build a signal fire to attract any passing ships. He puts Jack and his hunters in charge of keeping the fire going. One day the hunters let the fire burn out. When a ship passes without seeing the fire, Ralph panics because they have lost a chance at being rescued. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Host factors, the virulence of bacteria, and most importantly the presence of an endotracheal tube determine the development of VAP. The tube is detrimental not only because it provides the conduit for bacteria, but also because it abolishes the cough reflex. Bacteria get access to the lungs via microaspiration and through the biofilm that is formed in the inner surface of the endotracheal tube or leakage of secretions around the cuff. Spread from an adjacent site of infection or via the blood represent rare causes of VAP. Pathogenic bacteria usually replace endogenous flora and colonize the nasopharynx, the oropharynx, the sinuses and the stomach subsequently collecting inside and around the endotracheal tube. Positive pressure ventilation also contributes to VAP development by thrusting bacteria into the airways. Antibiotic exposure, severity of underlying disease and previous surgery have been implicated as host factors [5,8]. Various strategies have been applied for the prevention of VAP, each with different levels of evidence. Preventive measures against VAP development can be divided into five distinct groups: ... The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal precipitation. Mexico City developed under a convergence and clashing of cultures existing in one of the most heavily populated and concentrated cities in the world. It is characterized by fifty six ethnic groups, divided only by the history of their origin. The major groups that are referenced throughout the history of Mexico City, and the country as a whole, are known as mestizos, criollos, and Indians.
