Comparing Cathedrals
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Amiens and the Cathedral at Saint Denis are two cathedral with many
similarities and differences making them unique.
Each cathedral has aspects that are similar to one another. The cathedral of Our Lady of Amiens has
several names such as Notre Dame d Amiens and Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Amiens.
Cathedral at Saint Denis also has more than one name including Basilica of Saint Denis and Basilique
Saint Denis. Both of these cathedrals were built in France. These cathedrals were also used as burial
grounds for past rulers. The architectural style of both Notre Dame d Amiens and Basilique Saint
Denis was gothic. Due to these churches being of gothic style meant they used pointed arches and

Who Decided Essay
Nehal Housny Basic Composition
Kathy Wilford November 5, 2012 Who Decides? Medical Technologies (MT) is an essential factor
when it comes to science . However, there seems to be a misunderstanding on who should have the
power to control its use.The three most common figures that are usually involved in controlling MT s
are the government, doctors, and society. Each representative has its own advantages and
disadvantages .In both essays , The Made to Order Savior by Lisa Belkin and Who Holds the Clicker
by Lauren Slater , medical technology procedures are executed yet controlled and regulated
differently. Every figure has its own guidelines as to how to control this technology and at times there

The doctor does not desire power or management to cure a patient. Instead, a doctor needs experience,
passion, and the will to decide when and how to use medical technology. In both Belkin and Slaters
essays the government is seen as an obstacle to allow the doctors be in control of their own job.
Government is looking for ways on how to control the people regardless if it is providing funds or not.
Peoples lives should not be based on what the governments visions are . The use of medical
technology should stand in the hands of the doctors with no pressure included.Neurosurgeon Rees
Cosgrove stated If we do not do this right and carefully, and , you know properly... I do not think we
will have another opportunity (242). There is a certain amount of pressure on the doctors shoulders to
perfect these experiments and devices. Because there is no time for trial and error doctors are not able
to test the procedure several times before actually executing it . There are no animal models of DBS
for anxiety or depression, so these forays into the human brains are largely unguided despite all the
high tech equipment (242). Once again, government is limiting the doctors options creating less
precise results for their research. Spending so much time with anyone creates a certain level of
attachment, let alone between a doctor and his or her patient. This attachment or bond can expedite the
curing period of a patient.

Essay about The Origins of the Cold War
The Origins of the Cold War
The Cold War was a state of extreme hostility and confrontation but without direct militant action
between the two world powers, the USSR and the USA. The USSR and the USA were originally
wartime Allies during the Second World War; however a string of events and issues caused a built up
of suspicion and distrust which finally escalated to what was known as the Cold War. The start of Cold
War can be simply defined as the period of time whereby both powers were simultaneously hostile to
each other and the idea of peaceful cooperation could not exist anymore.

The Truman Doctrine was an open and direct confrontation of the Soviets. In it, the Soviets were
accused of political oppression , suppression of personal freedoms and were even perceived as evil by
the Americans. Under the Doctrine, the US policy was to support people who resisted attempted
subjugation by outside pressure which meant the Soviets. The US felt the need to assist the free people
against the spread of Communism and saw the Soviets as a threat and an enemy. This was the first
concrete and coherent American foreign policy towards the USSR. There was no immediate official
response from the Soviet government. However, a few months later, the Soviet Two Camps Speech
emerged stating Soviet stand to American aggression. It stated officially that the USSR was anti
democracy. Also the need to prevent Western powers desire to dominate the world was emphasized;
therefore the policy of cooperation between the Socialist and Liberal parties would cease to exist.
Communist parties in Western European countries were told to adopt a militant anti government
stance. The USSR was no longer keen on peaceful cooperation and acknowledged the fact that the
Americans and the Soviets could no longer be allies. This marked the start of the Cold War as the
Truman Doctrine instigated and caused the end of any form of peaceful

What happens to the economy when the government raises or lowers taxes? Lots of people in America
do not understand exactly what happens to the economy when the government raises or lowers taxes.
In this paper I am going to address that question as well as a few other things such as: Describing the
effect on net personal income when the government raises taxes and when the government lowers
taxes. Describing how the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is affected by higher taxes and lower taxes.

To get everything produced by a country s citizens, no matter where they are in the world, you should
look at Gross National Product (GNP), also called Gross National Income (GNI). (Amadeo,K. n.d)
Each month, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), an agency of the U.S. Department of
Commerce, releases an estimate of the level and growth of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), which
is the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States.
Usually, a recession is when a slowdown in economic activity happens and can cause a decrease in
jobs, as well as constricted credit for loans, and lethargic or disheartened sales overall. To be precise, a
recession is defined as a decrease in the nation s total economic activity (the GNP) for two or more
consecutive quarters. We know when a recession occurs because it affects everyone. You might lose
your job, be turned down for a loan that you normally could have gotten etc... The government
intervenes by implementing the fiscal policy; it is a type of economical intervention where the
government inserts its guidelines into the economy to either expand the economy s growth or to
contract it. They do this by fluctuating the levels of spending and taxation, the governments can
directly or indirectly affect the total demand, which is the total amount of goods and services in the
economy.

Importance Of Formative And Summative Assessment
Assessment According to (Georgiou Pavlou 2003) it includes all methods to collect information about
children s general performance, ability, attitude and knowledge. It s also used to diagnose students
weak areas (Nikolic and Cabaj 1999) 4.1 Formative assessment tools and rational There are 2 types of
assessment: Formative and summative. For (Baxter 1997) Formative assessments are not limited only
to mini tests during the course, but also to a continuous mutual feedback between students and their
teacher. They can be done in a form of setting homework tasks and monitoring effectively in class.
This way, they address students preferences/NA questionnaire (Apps 3.1, 3.2) i.e. I want the teacher to
tell me how I m doing.. 1 Tool procedure: For example, in lesson 3, students will correct their own
short stories by comparing them to some authentic samples and a correction code sheet and not to their
peers. Sts underline their key errors/slips with a highlighter then they rate themselves using a self
assessment grid (App. 6.5) Course objectives: CO3, CO4, CO5. Rational: Most students are concerned
with marks and rarely check the quality of their writing (Harris McCann 1994). From my experience,
this often happens in parent s meetings unless a student gets very low marks so parents become
concerned. Students will increase their autonomy (KI 1.2.3) and become aware of their strengths and
weaknesses in writing as Cram (1995:282 cited in Nunan2004 , p.149). This is done

Transit Co Operation Research Program
A report published in 2008 titled Transit Co operation Research Program (TCRP) synthesis 78 based
on the survey responses provided by 94 educational institutions revealed some facts about the transit
systems in college and universities (TRB, 2008). The most of the survey respondents were from four
year universities. All of the universities indicated that they have either self operated transit system or a
public transportation office operated transit system to serve the campus communities. The most of the
respondents agreed that the headway was less than 10 minutes for these transit stations in the college.
The report showed that 29 transit systems charged no bus fare for students and 26 transit systems
charged $1.00 to $1.50 per local bus ride. However, majority of shuttle services for on campus
circulation were offered free to ride. Another interesting fact mentioned in the report was that around
60% of the universities utilized remote park and ride services. The report revealed the fact that many
institutions were found to be charging low parking prices to their staffs and faculties. Nine institutions
reported to have annual parking fee less than $100. The report also mentioned that this reduced
parking price was not supporting the concept of reducing the number of single occupant vehicle
(SOV). The report recommended for conducting more research on the safety system, including late
night safety and emergencies regarding the transit system.

Should Children Be Allowed In Schools Research Paper
Should children be segregated from each other in schools based on their gender? Many teachers and
students alike will argue no. Separating boys and girls in the classroom, setting applies that boys are
superior than girls and girls are inferior than boys. After thorough research it was discovered that male
children were not much different than there female counterparts after all. Men are no longer the only
ones to choose a higher education or work outside of the home, numberless women chose to do so as
well. As a result, this teaches sexism instead of promoting that one gender is equal to the next. When
children are separated by different genders they will lack the social skills of working with a different

Environmental Justice Is The Fair Treatment Of The...
The placement of companies deleterious to the environment and well being of humans is something
that prosperous communities are not quite familiar with; in contrast, it is something well known to less
affluent communities. The imbalance of classification shows a lack of environmental justice in low
income and minority communities. According to the EPA, or Environmental Protection Agency,
environmental justice is the fair treatment... of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or
income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws,
regulations, and policies, (EPA, n.d.). However, the environmental justice, the EPA mentions is not
prevalent in communities of color, but rather its counterpart is: environmental injustice.
Environmental injustice, or environmental racism, being the excessive placing of perilous waste and
contaminating polluters near communities of color (Cha, 2016). Although often overlooked,
environmental racism is an extensive problem that negatively affects minority communities in
Southeast Los Angeles. As stated in the thesis, environmental injustice mostly affects minority
communities. In a map presented by the Los Angeles Times, in Southeast LA there are 26
communities which 83.9% of the inhabitants are of minority groups (Southeast, n.d.). Similarly,
another map released by EPA from the 1990 U.S. Census illustrates that in places where there is 80 to

Modernization Of The Hawaiian Islands
The state of Hawaii, also known collectively as the Hawaiian Islands, has a long history regarding its
development. From migration, to the development of producing goods as a way of bartering, to an
eventual governed society, the modernization of Hawaii has an illustrious history. The people who
impacted this and were part of creating a globalized look at Hawaii played a part into modernization
the state. This paper will illustrate the modernization of this land and its westernization throughout the
years.
The modern origins of these islands start not from the migration of the Asian people from other
various islands, but with the discovery by an Englishmen named Captain Cook. With his ship, The
Resolution, as well as The Discovery; Cook stumbles upon the islands of Kauai and Oahu on January
18, 1778. The exchange of goods amongst the native Hawaiians showed promise, but this barter and
friendly spirit did not last; as on his second visit to the islands in 1779 was unfortunate timing which
led to his death . Following Cook s death there was a period of migration to the Hawaiian Islands
which started when some of the crew from Cook s ships decided to stay behind.
The movement of trade to the Hawaiian Islands created a rift between the native people, and the
foreigners. As fur trade in China became such a big industry, Hawaii became stopping ground or port
for these trade ships. This eventually led to an increase in the amount of foreigners, making up
majority of the

Eastern Legends, Folklore Mythology
Dragons have an incredibly long history...pun intended. Unlike in western
Mythology ancient Asian dragons aren t fire breathing, princess kidnapping,
terrorizing creatures that only the bravest of knights of the round table can slay.
Nor do they eat people or attack villages and castles. In western culture the
dragon represents evil and darkness. These dragons usually have sharp teeth
muscular bodies and strong legs. They bring suffering to humankind and are a
symbol of fear and strength.

showed me that he was a career leader. Other commissioners were already at their seats. Also, I
learned that it is important to do what you think it is important for the people that you are serving. For
example, Commissioner Landman did not vote yes because she did not have enough time to review

Responsibility to the entire council is an essential characteristic of the council manager form and helps

The Tariff Laws
The tariff laws between the late 1828 and 1833 caused people like John C. Calhoun to realize that
states should have the right reject laws passed by the federal government. This law forced the South to
buy manufactured goods from U.S. manufacturers at a higher price. The southern states also received
a reduced income from raw materials they sold to Northern manufacturers. This affected the Southern
states economy and made many politicians angry, including Calhoun, the vice president and a
politician from South Carolina. Later he wrote a nullification doctrine to express his opinions on the
tariff. The nullification crisis greatly affected the growth of states rights over federal power. Because
of the nullification crisis in South Carolina there were even thoughts of secession in the early 1830 s.
The Nullification Crisis was a sectional crisis during the presidency of Andrew Jackson that arose
when the state of South Carolina attempted to nullify a federal law passed by the United States
Congress. South Carolina s attempt to counter the law was based on a constitutional theory stated by
John C. Calhoun, the vice president and a South Carolina politician. He believed that states had the
right to individually, or with other states, refuse to enact any federal law that has been ruled
unconstitutional by representatives of the state.

Early on, within the opening scene, the headmaster addresses the students about the importance of
keeping tradition, within the school and their personal lives. Due to the ways tradition has been
ingrained into their lives, the group of boys is reluctant to explore new grounds. Charlie stands
obediently, listening to the teachers, Neil continues his monotonous life, and Knox admires Chris Noel
from afar. Due to current societal norms, Charlie is forbidden from even considering to disobey a
teacher, Neil is tied to his life by a stern father, and Knox cannot make his move on Chris while she
has a boyfriend. However, after meeting, Mr. Keating the boys soon learn to move on from societal
constraints that bound them to their misery. He actively encourages the boys to individualize
themselves, they shouldn t adhere to tradition if it makes them miserable. Because of his advice, the
boys choose to pursue their dreams, Charlie begins to rebel by writing an article that asks why girls
can t go to Welton, which defies the tradition of the school. Neil pursues acting and lands the leading
role in the production of A Midsummer Night s Dream, to the dismay of his father, and Knox goes

classic rebellious teenage years. Since the audience has also acted similarly to these youths, they
project themselves into our protagonists as they reject tradition. Ultimately, these acts of rebellion

Beginning in 1845 and lasting for six years, the potato famine killed over a million men, women and

During the 1840s many Irish citizens lived in poverty. For food, the Irish relied almost entirely on
potatoes because of their low cost and nutritional value. Then a devastating potato blight began in
Europe in 1845 and destroyed the crops every year until 1851. Due to Ireland s poor government the
citizens we not able to recover from the famine quickly.
Before the famine in the mid 1800s, many English politicians and social reformers began to think that
Ireland was a nation in need of transformation, that it s people now needed to be yanked into the
modern world by tossing out the old Gaelic traditions (The History Place Before the Famine). The
English reformers wanted to end Ireland s cycle of poverty and misfortune because in the 1800s
poverty was thought to be caused by bad moral character (The History Place Before the Famine). The
English politicians and social reformers also wanted to change the laid back lifestyle of the Irish
peasants. They professed the virtues of hard work, thrift and self reliance and regarded the Irish as
totally lacking in these qualities, a point of view also shared by many British officials and politicians
(The History Place Before the Famine).

Addressing Child and Adolescent Mental Disorders
Introduction: Childhood mental disorders pose a great public health concern due to their high
prevalence, early onset, and associated adverse effects and costs to the society. Mental disorders
among children are described as serious deviations from expected cognitive, social, and emotional
development , and include conditions meeting criteria described by the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, Text Revision (DSM IV TR) or the International
Classification of Diseases (ICD) (Perou et al 2013 P1). WHO (2003 P8) report mentions three major
aspects of childhood mental disorders: (i) world wide up to 20% of children and adolescents suffer

Most countries spend more on pre school care than childcare, which could partly be a reflection of
coverage of a larger age group and a higher enrollment rate. Preschool spending is high at over 0.7%
of GDP in Denmark, Iceland and the United Kingdom, while childcare spending is only over 0.7% in
the Nordic countries. The available data for Canada and Switzerland show that public spending on
child care and pre primary education was very meager (0.2%), much below the OECD average of 24

Dipshit Cry Essay
We always hear the same old bullshit about the United States: The l a a a a a n d of the f r e e e e e e,
and the h o o o o o o m e of the b r a a a a a a a a v e. Thunderous applause and then some asshole
shouts play ball, most likely. Sure, some silly sporting event where we watch a bunch of dipshits, who
get paid ten million dollars a week to touch each other s butts, is likely the only time most of us ever
hear that damn song, but its central message has been so thoroughly ingrained into the fabric of
American life that it seems nearly impossible to not believe it, despite all the mounting evidence that
none of that bullshit is true. How many people do you suppose there are that have actually taken a
moment to think about just how much freedom we really have here? I m sure there are many. Hell, I
ve encountered many all over the country. I have, also, sadly, encountered so many people in this
country who so blindly believe in that freedom bullshit that it just reaffirms every negative stereotype
I ve ever had about Americans. They hold sacred this fantasy that we are the only place that has ever
had freedom to the point that they will either try to fight me or give the same tired old saw, Well, why
don t you just leave, then? when I talk shit about it. Not one of these people ever offered to buy me a
plane ticket, though, by the way. Think of all the free vacations I ve missed out on over the years,
because not one of those heroes was serious about sending me

Sorry for Disturbing You
Sorry for disturbing you
A.
Several acknowledged studies show that one of the primary sources to human happiness is the close
and positive relations we can have to each other. We have the ability to communicate and we have an
enormous vocabulary to express how we feel. But with great power comes great responsibility.
Communication is a central part of an intimate relationship and, if handled properly, it can be the key
to a long and happy life. But if a person is unable to communicate about feelings it can be the end of
ever obtaining true intimacy and in the end lead to loneliness and low self esteem. This essay will

Almost every time Ian tells Corinne to do something, she does the exact opposite. Ex: Go and watch
telly, Corry. Corinne followed them into the room (line 24) and when Karen crosses his mind there is a
great deal of confusion and ignorance connected to her, as Ian wonders how she will react to his
actions. All through the story Ian wants Karen to be there, but he waits until the end to call her, when
there is no other way for him to get rid of Michael. In that way Michael becomes the one that makes
Ian contact his wife. Now the title of the story has a very different meaning, because what first appears
to be a disturbance of Ian s evening ends up helping him.
It is clear that the meeting with Michael has changed something inside Ian. The first thing he sees
when opening the door is the icy rain running in beads down the man s face (line 1), but when he
returns home in the end of the time line he is no longer sure if it had been rain or tears (line 2). The
fact that he now looks back at the situation and sees it differently than he did at first shows that
something inside him has changed. There is a very important line in the end of the story that says
Sorry he whispered to Karen and looked at her. His eyes full of tears or rain (line 144). Just as he wasn

John Watson and Classical Conditioning
In psychology, respondent behavior is behavior learned through classical conditioning. This type of
learning is defined as a way in which one learns to link two or more stimuli while also anticipating
events; or other wise, known as a kind of learning that occurs when a conditioned stimulus is paired
with an unconditioned stimulus. While classical conditioning was accidently discovered by Ivan
Pavlov, John B. Watson was interested in taking Pavlov s experiences a bit further. Watson s ultimate
goal was to research how classical conditioning could be seen through humans and not just through
animals. An in depth look on John Watson s actual experiment can be better explained and found in
the article titled, The Little Albert Experiment on
http://psychology.about.com/od/classicpsychologystudies/a/little albert experiment.htm.
John Watson s Contribution
Classical conditioning is identified as the type of learning where the nature of the research conditions
a fear response to the subject being experimented on. An implication of the research for human
behavior involving conditioned fear response would describe how a child might be afraid of storms
because of the partnership between the storm and the sound of the loud thunder. This being said, John
B. Watson wanted to further explain this reasoning of classical conditioning through his own
experiment that many people call The Little

The Performance Of The Symphony
I have never had the chance to sit and watch a symphony before. I have heard them in plays and other
performances, but they have never been the main production in something I have seen. It was very
interesting to see the structure behind the sound. The amount of people and different instruments all
together making a cohesive piece of music was absolutely incredible. There appeared to be well over
50 musicians working together to produce different sounds that fit together so tenaciously. Among the
instruments involved in the orchestra, I noticed cellos, flutes, clarinets, cymbals, tambourines,
trumpets, violins, trombones, tubas, french horns, and even a few instruments that I could not
recognize. The diversity in the instruments created a strong yet effortless feeling in the listener. The
music flowed so well that it seemed simple and easy, yet when I looked into the orchestra and saw
how many components go into the composition, it is clear that it is quite intricate. The symphony was
set in a beautiful concert venue, the Boston Symphony Hall. The high ceilings were dripping with
elaborate chandeliers, creating beautiful lighting for the on stage performers. The chairs of the
instrumentalists were turned in a way so that all the performers could be viewed by the audience, and
the conductors back was turned so he could face his orchestra. The walls on both sides were lined with
two levels of seats, and four rows of seats were organized in front of the stage. Four windows

Running head: PUA 421 FINAL Lee 1 PUA 421 Final In cloud computing, there are three types of
services offered: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a
Service (SaaS). However, for the purposes of this paper, only PaaS and SaaS will be discussed.
According to the Chief Information Officers (CIO) Council (2017), PaaS can be defined as a service
that platform providers provide so that customers can create their own application, which means that
platform providers need to give customers a platform with the capabilities and necessary components
to create their desired applications. Depending on the components provided on a platform, customers

867). Understandably, offering SaaS services at a low price in comparison to traditional software
means that profit margins are smaller, and these relatively lower profits make maintaining customers
important for SaaS providers. PaaS, on the other hand, provides different uses and has a different
developmental process. For instance, one important use of PaaS is that it allows for the development
of SaaS, which often use these platforms to develop their services, and PaaS also allow third parties to
develop their own SaaS applications without unnecessary complexity (Walraven et al., 2014, p. 669).
As mentioned previously, PaaS providers also give customers the tools needed to create their own
applications. However, the process can be further delved into. According to Holubek and Floyd
(2013), PaaS vendors provide a platform that customers can develop with a collection of application
infrastructure (middleware) services, such as testing, database services, programming languages, and
interface design tools (p. 47). These middleware services allow customers to specifically develop their
apps however they like, as long as the PaaS provider s middleware services satisfy their needs.

Part 1a
This is about the way consumers perceive a product or a brand. This recognition of a product or brand
is based on two different things: Learning and Perception. These two phrases mean something
completely different, but are in fact closely connected when it comes to consumer perception.

A recent poll by Vancouver based Ipsos Loyalty has found that nearly half (49%) of Canadians say
they are either strongly or somewhat influenced by brand or product recommendations made by
members of their online social network.
The findings are based on an online survey of 844 Canadians conducted in the first quarter of 2011.
Not surprisingly, the influence of social network recommendations is significantly stronger for online
Canadians 18 34 (56%) than it is for older online Canadians 55+ (40%).
The study also found that 48% of online Canadians using an online social network follow or like a
minimum of one brand. Nearly 60% of younger Canadians follow at least one brand and an average of
five, while only 30% of older Canadians follow a brand, and are likely to follow just one.
These results show that social networks influence impressions and ultimately the bottom line, said
Ipsos Loyalty vice president Dave Pierzchala in a release.
Online relationships with brands are also likely to be tenuous, with 28% of Canadians saying they
have unliked or stopped following a brand or company. Younger Canadians are particularly fickle,
with 41% having unliked a company (compared with just 15% of older Canadians). The primary
reason (55%) given for unliking : the consumer simply lost interest.

Annotated Bibliography On The Development And Adoption Of Cds
Even where CDS is deployed, the implementations often do not effectively use and present the best
available clinical knowledge, thereby limiting the impact and degree of clinical improvement. More
specifically: drug drug interaction checking modules and drug allergy checking modules are the
primary CDS interventions that are routinely being purchased and implemented. Many organizations
that use CDS do not have dose checking capabilities. Some current CDS systems generate too many
false positive alerts, or interrupt clinical workflows in a manner that can disrupt efficient care delivery.
Despite their potential to significantly improve health care, advanced clinical decision support (CDS)
capabilities are not widely available in the clinical setting. An important reason for this limited
availability of CDS capabilities is the application specific and institution specific nature of most
current CDS implementations. There is a critical need to enable CDS capabilities on a much larger
scale is the development and adoption of standards that enable current and emerging CDS resources to
be more effectively leveraged across multiple applications and care settings. Standards required for
such effective scaling of CDS include (i) standard terminologies and information models to represent
and communicate about health care data; (ii) standard approaches to representing clinical knowledge
in both human readable and machine executable formats; and (iii) standard approaches for

Cash Flow Statement
Cash Flow Statement:
A cash flow statement is a financial report with information on the sources of a firm s cash and how it
was spent within a given period of time. In contrast to other financial reports, a cash flow statement
does not present information on non cash items like depreciation. As a result, the cash flow statement
is beneficial in analyzing the temporary feasibility of a company, especially its capability to pay bills.
Many analysts recommend entrepreneurs to study a cash flow statement quarterly because of its
importance for small and large businesses.
Since a cash flow statement classifies cash receipts and payments based on operations, investments,
and financing activities, it s categorized into these three functional sections within the business.
Therefore, the major parts of the cash flow statement are cash related operations, investments,
financing, and net increase or decrease in cash. While cash from operations is cash generated from a
firm s daily operations, the investing cash is generated from assets investments. On the other hand,
financing cash is paid or received from the issued or borrowed funds whereas net increase or decrease
in cash is from annual rise or reduction in cash. It s important to note that regardless of the slight
differences in cash flow statements, they all present financial information in all the four categories (
Cash Flow Statement , n.d.).
One of the major advantages of a cash flow statement is that it provides

The Concept Of Human Security
Traditionally, security is understood as national security. However, this notion proves to lack of a
comprehensive understanding because the nature of conflicts is changing, and the state is no longer
the sole object to be protected. Therefore, many scholars have suggested a new concept in terms of
security, which is security for human. The concept of human security has been regarded as
controversial since its introduction in the world politics. However, it is undeniable that the concept has
been developed in recent decades to make it a useful tool for security studies. To examine to what
extent the concept of human security is a useful one, this paper would consider both the positive and
negative side of the concept for academic and policy making purpose. In the first part, I would explain
the origin as well as the definition of the concept to show that it has broadened the notion of security.
Then, I will demonstrate its achievements in the world politics, particularly, human security has been
adapted in policies of some developed countries in the world. Also, the concept is strengthened by the
introduction of the Responsibility to Protect in 2005. In the second part, I will explore some critiques
on the concept, mainly for its vagueness and broadness. Those are the disadvantages of the concept
which cause difficulties for the scholars and policy makers to do research about security.
First of all, human security is a useful concept because it expands and redefines the

The Doctrine Of The Church
There are going to be times in our lives when we disagree with what someone says or another person s
opinions on a particular matter. It s unlikely that we will agree and be content with everything that
happens in our lives as we do not live in a utopian world. It is also inevitable at one time or another
that we will disagree with what the Church is teaching us especially when it comes to moral issues
such as divorce, birth control, and abortion. This is called non reception. When non reception ensues
in the Church, the teaching in question is ineffectively expressed or judged to be unbelievable by a
large population of good, faithful Catholics (Kennedy).
As Catholics, we should believe that the Church has been given the authority by God to make
decisions regarding moral issues. The Church teaches us that we should listen and follow the
teachings of our leaders, even when we do not understand. However, it is extremely difficult to follow
through with something that you don t understand. If you were given a task at work to accomplish,
and did not know how to effectively complete it, what would you do? I personally would ask
questions, a lot of questions, until I fully understood the task at hand. Speaking on the topic of moral
issues and divorce, there are a lot of questions that could be asked to fully understand what divorce is
in the Catholic Church. This topic could pose questions such as: Why is divorce a sin? Are there
certain circumstances where it is allowed? What

Analyzing Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
Introduction The Gulf of Mexico is a valuable nationwide treasure. Its natural deposits water, fish,
beaches, reefs, marshes, oil and gas are the financial engine of the area. USDC (2012) asserts that the
Gulf of Mexico is similarly essential to the whole country as an abundant source of meals, energy and
entertainment. The Gulf Coast s distinct culture and natural charm are world renowned. There is no
location like it anywhere else on Earth (USDC, 2012). USDC (2012) reports that on April 20, 2010
examinations of the world concentrated on an oil platform in the Gulf, around 50 miles off the
Louisiana coastline. The mobile drilling unit Deepwater Horizon, which was being made used to drill
an experimental well for BP Exploration and Production, Inc. (BP), violently blew up, ignited and at
some point sank, tragically eliminating 11 employees. However that was just the start of the
catastrophe. Oil and various other compounds from the rig and the well started streaming unabated
around one mile below the area. Preliminary efforts to cap the wells were not successful, and for 87
days oil ejected unmonitored and uncontrolled into the Gulf. Oil soon enough covered a huge location
of hundreds of square miles, and held by the tides and currents reached the coastline, contaminating
beaches, bays, estuaries and marshes from the Florida panhandle to west of the Mississippi River
delta. At the height of the spill, around 37 % of the open water in the Gulf was closed to fishing.

The Disappointment By Aphra Behn
Throughout The Disappointment , Aphra Behn critics the established gender roles in the society
particularly sexually. This can be seen in the relationship between Lisander who is the male figure and
Cloris who is the female one. In this poem, Cloris can be seen as the object of desire while Lisander
can be seen as the sexual object which challenges the pre established roles in society. The first stanza
reveals a side of Lisander that shows that he does not have a complete control on his body. Indeed, the
fact that the author says One day the Amorous Lisander/By an impatient Passion sway d (1 2). The use
of the word sway d shows that the passion drives him and controls him while it should be the opposite.
This situation questions the male identity because Lisander, as a cavalier and a man, should be strong
and show no weaknesses. Furthermore, the end of this stanza reveals that Lisander does need Cloris to
live in this world which shows that she, unconsciously, has power over Lisander because he needs her.
Behn writes that [Lisander] was now descending to the Sea/And left no Light to guide the World/But
what from Cloris brighter Eyes was hurl d (8 10). There is an imagery there which the opposition
between the fact that Lisander has no light and Cloris has bright eyes. It shows that in their
relationship, the woman is needed and plays an important role. It has to be remembered that, back in
the days, women were dependant of men because of their lower social status,

However, there seems to be a misunderstanding on who should have the power to control its use.The three most common figures that are usually involved in controlling MT s are the government, doctors, and society. Each representative has its own advantages and disadvantages .In both essays , The Made to Order Savior by Lisa Belkin and Who Holds the Clicker by Lauren Slater , medical technology procedures are executed yet controlled and regulated differently. Every figure has its own guidelines as to how to control this technology and at times there was no control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The doctor does not desire power or management to cure a patient. Instead, a doctor needs experience, passion, and the will to decide when and how to use medical technology. In both Belkin and Slaters essays the government is seen as an obstacle to allow the doctors be in control of their own job. Government is looking for ways on how to control the people regardless if it is providing funds or not. Peoples lives should not be based on what the governments visions are . The use of medical technology should stand in the hands of the doctors with no pressure included.Neurosurgeon Rees Cosgrove stated If we do not do this right and carefully, and , you know properly... I do not think we will have another opportunity (242). There is a certain amount of pressure on the doctors shoulders to perfect these experiments and devices. Because there is no time for trial and error doctors are not able to test the procedure several times before actually executing it . There are no animal models of DBS for anxiety or depression, so these forays into the human brains are largely unguided despite all the high tech equipment (242). Once again, government is limiting the doctors options creating less precise results for their research. Spending so much time with anyone creates a certain level of attachment, let alone between a doctor and his or her patient. This attachment or bond can expedite the curing period of a patient. For ... The Truman Doctrine was an open and direct confrontation of the Soviets. In it, the Soviets were accused of political oppression , suppression of personal freedoms and were even perceived as evil by the Americans. Under the Doctrine, the US policy was to support people who resisted attempted subjugation by outside pressure which meant the Soviets. The US felt the need to assist the free people against the spread of Communism and saw the Soviets as a threat and an enemy. This was the first concrete and coherent American foreign policy towards the USSR. There was no immediate official response from the Soviet government. However, a few months later, the Soviet Two Camps Speech emerged stating Soviet stand to American aggression. It stated officially that the USSR was anti democracy. Also the need to prevent Western powers desire to dominate the world was emphasized; therefore the policy of cooperation between the Socialist and Liberal parties would cease to exist. Communist parties in Western European countries were told to adopt a militant anti government stance. The USSR was no longer keen on peaceful cooperation and acknowledged the fact that the Americans and the Soviets could no longer be allies. • 8. Importance Of Formative And Summative Assessment Assessment According to (Georgiou Pavlou 2003) it includes all methods to collect information about children s general performance, ability, attitude and knowledge. It s also used to diagnose students weak areas (Nikolic and Cabaj 1999) 4.1 Formative assessment tools and rational There are 2 types of assessment: Formative and summative. For (Baxter 1997) Formative assessments are not limited only to mini tests during the course, but also to a continuous mutual feedback between students and their teacher. They can be done in a form of setting homework tasks and monitoring effectively in class. This way, they address students preferences/NA questionnaire (Apps 3.1, 3.2) i.e. I want the teacher to tell me how I m doing.. 1 Tool procedure: For example, in lesson 3, students will correct their own short stories by comparing them to some authentic samples and a correction code sheet and not to their peers. Sts underline their key errors/slips with a highlighter then they rate themselves using a self assessment grid (App. 6.5) Course objectives: CO3, CO4, CO5. Rational: Most students are concerned with marks and rarely check the quality of their writing (Harris McCann 1994). From my experience, this often happens in parent s meetings unless a student gets very low marks so parents become concerned. Students will increase their autonomy (KI 1.2.3) and become aware of their strengths and weaknesses in writing as Cram (1995:282 cited in Nunan2004 , p.149). This is done ... The report showed that 29 transit systems charged no bus fare for students and 26 transit systems charged $1.00 to $1.50 per local bus ride. However, majority of shuttle services for on campus circulation were offered free to ride. Another interesting fact mentioned in the report was that around 60% of the universities utilized remote park and ride services. The report revealed the fact that many institutions were found to be charging low parking prices to their staffs and faculties. Nine institutions reported to have annual parking fee less than $100. The report also mentioned that this reduced parking price was not supporting the concept of reducing the number of single occupant vehicle (SOV). The southern states also received a reduced income from raw materials they sold to Northern manufacturers. This affected the Southern states economy and made many politicians angry, including Calhoun, the vice president and a politician from South Carolina. Despite their potential to significantly improve health care, advanced clinical decision support (CDS) capabilities are not widely available in the clinical setting. An important reason for this limited availability of CDS capabilities is the application specific and institution specific nature of most current CDS implementations. There is a critical need to enable CDS capabilities on a much larger scale is the development and adoption of standards that enable current and emerging CDS resources to be more effectively leveraged across multiple applications and care settings. Standards required for such effective scaling of CDS include (i) standard terminologies and information models to represent and communicate about health care data; (ii) standard approaches to representing clinical knowledge in both human readable and machine executable formats; and (iii) standard approaches for ... • 34. Cash Flow Statement Cash Flow Statement: A cash flow statement is a financial report with information on the sources of a firm s cash and how it was spent within a given period of time. In contrast to other financial reports, a cash flow statement does not present information on non cash items like depreciation. As a result, the cash flow statement is beneficial in analyzing the temporary feasibility of a company, especially its capability to pay bills. Many analysts recommend entrepreneurs to study a cash flow statement quarterly because of its importance for small and large businesses. Since a cash flow statement classifies cash receipts and payments based on operations, investments, and financing activities, it s categorized into these three functional sections within the business. Therefore, the major parts of the cash flow statement are cash related operations, investments, financing, and net increase or decrease in cash. While cash from operations is cash generated from a firm s daily operations, the investing cash is generated from assets investments. On the other hand, financing cash is paid or received from the issued or borrowed funds whereas net increase or decrease in cash is from annual rise or reduction in cash. It s important to note that regardless of the slight differences in cash flow statements, they all present financial information in all the four categories ( Cash Flow Statement , n.d.). One of the major advantages of a cash flow statement is that it provides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I began thinking who the best interviewee would be for this story and I thought the Student Involvement Center would be the best bet. I thought if I could talk to one of their students then I could get both angles of all the things the Student Involvement Centers does to help students get involved and also how it helped them to make friends. Hopeful, I emailed them. I never got anything back. So, I searched for a phone number with no luck and emailed them again. By this time, I knew I had to change my story a little bit and get a new person to interview. My backup plan was to interview a sorority girl about how going greek helped her make friends. I was going to go in the O (which is where all the sororities and fraternities hang out and have offices) and ask if anyone would like to do an interview for me. The more I thought about this the more I realized how much of an awful plan it was. Instead, I remembered there was a sorority girl in my philosophy class. I asked her if she could do an interview and she was busy until later that week. I had finally got everything straightened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Concept Of Human Security Traditionally, security is understood as national security. However, this notion proves to lack of a comprehensive understanding because the nature of conflicts is changing, and the state is no longer the sole object to be protected. Therefore, many scholars have suggested a new concept in terms of security, which is security for human. The concept of human security has been regarded as controversial since its introduction in the world politics. However, it is undeniable that the concept has been developed in recent decades to make it a useful tool for security studies. To examine to what extent the concept of human security is a useful one, this paper would consider both the positive and negative side of the concept for academic and policy making purpose. In the first part, I would explain the origin as well as the definition of the concept to show that it has broadened the notion of security. Then, I will demonstrate its achievements in the world politics, particularly, human security has been adapted in policies of some developed countries in the world. Also, the concept is strengthened by the introduction of the Responsibility to Protect in 2005. In the second part, I will explore some critiques on the concept, mainly for its vagueness and broadness. Those are the disadvantages of the concept which cause difficulties for the scholars and policy makers to do research about security. First of all, human security is a useful concept because it expands and redefines the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Doctrine Of The Church There are going to be times in our lives when we disagree with what someone says or another person s opinions on a particular matter. It s unlikely that we will agree and be content with everything that happens in our lives as we do not live in a utopian world. It is also inevitable at one time or another that we will disagree with what the Church is teaching us especially when it comes to moral issues such as divorce, birth control, and abortion. This is called non reception. When non reception ensues in the Church, the teaching in question is ineffectively expressed or judged to be unbelievable by a large population of good, faithful Catholics (Kennedy). As Catholics, we should believe that the Church has been given the authority by God to make decisions regarding moral issues. The Church teaches us that we should listen and follow the teachings of our leaders, even when we do not understand. However, it is extremely difficult to follow through with something that you don t understand. If you were given a task at work to accomplish, and did not know how to effectively complete it, what would you do? I personally would ask questions, a lot of questions, until I fully understood the task at hand. Speaking on the topic of moral issues and divorce, there are a lot of questions that could be asked to fully understand what divorce is in the Catholic Church. This topic could pose questions such as: Why is divorce a sin? Are there certain circumstances where it is allowed? What ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Disappointment By Aphra Behn Throughout The Disappointment , Aphra Behn critics the established gender roles in the society particularly sexually. This can be seen in the relationship between Lisander who is the male figure and Cloris who is the female one. In this poem, Cloris can be seen as the object of desire while Lisander can be seen as the sexual object which challenges the pre established roles in society. The first stanza reveals a side of Lisander that shows that he does not have a complete control on his body. Indeed, the fact that the author says One day the Amorous Lisander/By an impatient Passion sway d (1 2). The use of the word sway d shows that the passion drives him and controls him while it should be the opposite. This situation questions the male identity because Lisander, as a cavalier and a man, should be strong and show no weaknesses. Furthermore, the end of this stanza reveals that Lisander does need Cloris to live in this world which shows that she, unconsciously, has power over Lisander because he needs her. Behn writes that [Lisander] was now descending to the Sea/And left no Light to guide the World/But what from Cloris brighter Eyes was hurl d (8 10). There is an imagery there which the opposition between the fact that Lisander has no light and Cloris has bright eyes. It shows that in their relationship, the woman is needed and plays an important role. It has to be remembered that, back in the days, women were dependant of men because of their lower social status, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
