Daisy In Teenage Wasteland
The story, Teenage Wasteland by Anne Tyler, has limited characters and focuses on less. While
reading Teenage Wasteland the character Daisy played a secondary character role. This character was
portrayed as a protagonist by experiencing her own inner and external conflicts. Daisy who is the role
of Danny s mother can be seen as a dynamic throughout the story. Anne Tyler does a excellent way of
making the readers view Daisy s static thoughts and actions in direct and indirect manner.
Daisy s character is directly encouraging and patient. On page 35 it reads, Daisy checked Donny s
assignments everyday. She sat next to him as he worked, trying to be encouraging . This directly tells
the readers how hard Daisy works to show effort into her son s grades. ... Show more content on

They acted like wardens. On weekends they enforced a curfew. And any time he went to a party, they
always telephoned to see who would be supervising . These lines show how Daisy is a protective
parent who cares about her young son. Daisy is portrayed as a mother figure who has limited trust and
is worried about her son s future. Daisy is also indirectly shown to be open to change. Later onto the
story, it shows how Daisy no longer calls parents before a party and trusts Danny to stay out later on
the weekends. Open minded and precautionary can be used to describe Donny s mother.
Throughout the events leading up to Donny s runaway, it doesn t directly or indirectly show that Daisy
has a foil. Donny does however give Daisy a hard time when she has to pay for his wasteful tutor and
trying to understand him. Daisy is heartbroken in the end trying to determine the events leading up to
Donny s leaving. The author went into Daisy s mind and grab her emotions of hopelessness and
confusion when seeing Donny s basketball. Daisy has a story line in these short days from actions to

Analysis Of The Back Of The Turtle By Kings
These oral stories, or histories, provides historical actors with an opportunity to depict their own
stories in their own words, where usual written records often discount the great unwashed. For
Indigenous peoples, individuality is critical to shared histories. Politicians, activists, and business
leaders may materialize frequently in official documents and the media, usually manipulating it for
their purposes, but the rest of us very seldom do. In The Back of The Turtle, Kings portrays a identical
similar setting; a world full of media coverage that is manipulated by large companies, such as
Dominion; A spill? No said Winter. But evidently there has been some seepage. Possibly from one of
our ponds. Didn t we fund an environmental

Classroom Behavior Management And Its Effects On Students...
Classroom behavior management is considered to be one of the most important factors to determine
student s behaviors. With that being said, the study evaluated classroom behavior strategies that are
aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions Supports (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). According
to research, the impact of SW PBIS has reduced problem behaviors and increased academic
performance. However, despite the increase of PBIS many teachers continue to struggle with
managing student behavior in the classroom (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). Often times
ineffective classroom management negatively impacts students behaviors in where they are given less
academic instruction. This is important because teacher s implementation of effective practices
becomes affected by their job demands. Teachers are therefore less likely to have effective
implementations if they are emotionally exhausted or lack self efficacy (Reinke, Herman Stormont,
2013). More importantly, if teachers implement PBIS in their classrooms with positive stated rules and
expectations they are more likely to praise their students and reduce behavioral problems. Whereas,
teachers with higher rates of student disruptive behavior are more likely to have lower self efficacy
and emotional exhaustion (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). By all means, support has to be given to
teachers in the field to protect children from having negative teacher student interactions. The study
underscores the necessity to access

An Analysis of Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio Essay
An Analysis of Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio
Under the guise of simplicity, Sherwood Anderson weaves an intricate tale of man s struggle for
understanding and love in Winesburg, Ohio. Against a backdrop rich with symbolism, he examines
man s truths crumbling behind the walls he has built.
Anderson employs a strong use of symbolism in Adventure. Waiting in vain for a self made fantasy to
realize, Alice Hindman sacrifices a meaningful life within society. Alice s outward existence appears
to run steadily downhill into dull meaninglessness, her inward life climbs with increasing intensity
toward a climax of desperation and hysteria (Joselyn 450). The intensity, a passionate restlessness,
forces Alice to realize that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twisted apples, rejected by the pickers, are like the misunderstood misfits rejected by society;
underneath they are just as wonderful and yet only a few know the sweetness of the twisted apples
(Anderson 36). Paper pills, the unspoken ideas of Doctor Reefy, are doses of medicine he cannot
prescribe. Another object, money symbolizes the means for freedom or control. Elizabeth Willard s
father, on his death bed, gives her eight hundred dollars. Hoping she will take it and go away he pleads
with her to keep silent about the money (Anderson 225). Ironically, the very symbol of freedom
remains hidden behind a wall, although she struggles in silence to reveal its location and purpose. In
Drink, Tom Foster s grandmother finds money and purchases tickets to escape a city filled with
ugliness and crime and lust (Anderson 215). Arriving in Winesburg, a bustling town different from the
small village of her childhood, she wonders if she has made a mistake. Money did not provide the
freedom she sought. Money played an important part in Doctor Parcival s relationship with his
brother. His brother controlled the family with his money and the bitterness remained with the doctor
throughout his life. Jesse Bentley hungered for what money represented: control, a means for
mastering the souls of his people (Anderson 67). The comparison between the Willard Hotel and the
owner, Tom, is another example of Anderson s use of symbolism. The building is aging, the wallpaper
fading.

Hitchcock s Film Adaptation Of The 39 Steps
The 39 Steps is a theatrical production based on John Buchan s 1915 novel and Alfred Hitchcock s
1935 film. Unlike the original source material, the production was designed for four actors to play
over a hundred characters in total. Overall, it was an incredibly successful performance which did not
fail to bring in a good story and laughs throughout.
The story is set in Britain during the 1930s and the stage production shows points to this in a few
ways. The most noticeable hints I found towards the time period was the costumes, which is what
tends to draw my eye a lot. Alfred Hitchcock s film adaptation of The 39 Steps was very much in the
film noir style. Black and white colour scheme, somewhat melodramatic acting, the whole lot. While
the theatre production is not completely in this style, it still makes some allusions towards Hitchcock s
film. For example, the acting is still very hammy and overdramatic (though not in a bad way by any
means) and the main protagonist does monologue about himself.
The production has only four actors to play all the characters, around ... Show more content on

on stage for that long. Her first role was killed off rather quickly, the next appeared briefly but then

these three characters were distinct, made so by their different costumes and accents, it actually wasn t
that easy. When Pamela returned later in the play, it took me a good while to clue in that we had seen
her before. There was nothing instantly grabbing about that one role that made me instantly recognise
her so I thought it was simply a new character. Unlike Annabella or Margaret, Pamela didn t have a
noticeable German or Scottish accent and wasn t as melodramatic in her actions. In fact, Pamela had
so little impact on me that I completely forgot her

The Marine Corp Memorial Essay example
The Marine Corp Memorial
On February 19, 1945 five Marines and one Sailor participated in an event that would forever change
the course of events for the Marine Corps. Undoubtedly one of the most powerful images of the 20th
century is the flag raising atop Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima. The flag raising captured the courage,
commitment and honor that these Marines held as they reached the top. These individuals were only
doing what they were instructed to do, but it was the Pulitzer Prize winning photograph that was taken
by Joe Rosenthal that turned this war time event into a world wide historical event. Behind the eagle,
globe and anchor, the flag raising has taken the form of a second emblem for the Marine Corps.

The Marines knew de Weldon s version of the statue and that was the statue they wanted. Ten
professors from American University collectively dismissed de Weldon s sculpture as mediocrity and
called it ordinary, ineffective, and unsculpturesque. Donald De Lu president of the National Sculpture
Society stated that:
Instead of immortalizing the brave Marines who have given their lives for their country, the proposed
design, if permitted to be carried out would be only a source of bitter resentment, violent criticism,
and ridicule.
William Wheeler, later to become the President of the Sculpture Society, submitted as letter to
Secretary of State Forrestal claiming numerous wrong doings by de Weldon. These charges ranged
from shady business practices, expired visa, misrepresenting art, and shipping busts that were still wet
and the suing for damages when they arrived damaged. In late 1947 the monument received another
setback. The Commission of Fine Art, which has the aesthetic approval of all monuments placed in the
Washington area, rejected the memorial because of its size and the location that was selected. Later
that same year the Marine Corps War Memorial Foundation was formed with General Denig as
president and Harry Dash as head of finance. It was later discovered that Harry Dash was embezzling
funds amounting to over $100,000 of the contributions. This setback almost put an end to the
memorial but though the tenacity of a

Anastasiya Balandina #5/Choice Novel Literary Terms irony: The last name Breedlove for Pecola and
her family, literally means to breed and love. Meaning to produce love, this is ironic because her

Tone: Sympathetic, Poetic Both Claudia and the narrator show sympathy. Claudia wants to show
Cholly s love for Pecola even though he raped her, and the narrator provides Cholly s story to
understand why he raped her and how it fit into his life. Love, thick and dark as Alaga syrup, eased up
into that cracked window. I could smell it taste it sweet, musty, with an edge of wintergreen in its base
everywhere in that house. It stuck, along with my tongue, to the frosted window panes. It coated my
chest, along with the salve, and when the flannel came undone in my sleep, the clear, sharp curves of
air outlined its presence in my throat (Morrison 12). This passage is poetic in that it uses long
descriptive passages about love. Hyperbole: She owned the crack that made her stumble; she owned
the clumps of dandelions...owning them made her a part of the world, and the world part of her ,

Artists Are Culturally Creators
In my opinion, artists are simply creators. Artists create things that are reflections of their psyche,
society at large, or anything that comes to mind. Given that the inspiration for an artist s work can be
so varied and diverse, I think it s hard to say that artists have a social responsibility given that some
artists work don t necessarily convey or reflect the feelings or ideals of the greater bulk of society.
Artistic expression is important and as soon as society begins to police or restrict the ability of an
artist to express his or herself, I think we re moving into dangerous territory as a culture. With that
said, I don t think artists should be held accountable for the work they produce. Artists should be
allowed to completely and

Orc Descriptive Writing
As the result of a blunt force impacting my head, most like due a rock, I slowly regained my
consciousness. My vision was blurry. Hearing some indecipherable speech around me, I try to move

option. As my eyesight stabilized and senses regained, I realized that I had been hanging on a wooden
cylinder upside down. As stiff as my body was, I moved my head around, trying to grasp my current
location and situation.
3 foot tall, bulky, grotesque creatures surrounded me. Their facial features resembled that of a pig,
though much more ugly. Fat covered bodies only covered by a dirtied loincloth. Each of them wielded
various weapons, although the most common seemed to be a wooden spear with a metal tip. If my ...

HIV Treatment Plan
Diseases, infections, and viruses effect the population around the world each and every day. One of
those viruses is the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or better known as HIV. HIV is a virus that
attacks the immune system, causing it to become weak and vulnerable. HIV can later on turn into
AIDS, or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. There is currently no known cure for HIV or
AIDS, but there are treatment plans available to help prolong HIV from turning into AIDS.
There are three stages of Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The beginning stage of HIV is Acute
Retroviral Syndrome, where symptoms may or may not first start occurring. At about one to four
weeks after infection takes place, the infected person can start experiencing flu like symptoms. During
this stage, the virus attacks CD4 cells using them to replicate and destroy already existing cells. The
next stage is called Clinical Latency, or chronic HIV infection. At this time no symptoms will be

Children Are Becoming Extremely Spoiled
Children are being babied way too much. Children are becoming extremely spoiled; to the point of no
return. An end needs to be put to this before an inevitable catastrophe occurs! If ever given the chance,
it is quite frightening to think about where this generations kids will stand a few years from now, is it
not? Something needs to be done.
Our world cannot afford more spoiled children. A spoiled child is undisciplined, manipulative, and
unpleasant to be with much of the time (Schmitt). With the way our society is now, kids are becoming
very spoiled which is forming them to be narcissistic children. Do we really want more people like
Donald Trump? For goodness sake, the man believes a loan of one million dollars to be small! Is that
what we want? Well if parenting continues the way it is, that s what society will get. Spoiling will
form youngsters into becoming selfish little pampered brats, and pampered children are problematic
for parents; as well as for future children, adults, or others they will encounter along the path of their
everyday lives in the future. Spoiled children run into trouble by the time they reach school age. Other
children do not like them because they are too bossy and selfish. Adults do not like them because they
are rude and make excessive demands. Eventually spoiled children become hard for even parents to
love because of their behavior (Schmitt). This is why it is crucial for our society to make future
parents aware of the need of parenting

Summary Of The Mailman By Van Gogh
Description
The mailman pictured is painted frontally dressed in a work uniform, its formality creating a sharp
contrast with the rather informal background. His expression forms a look of indifference seemingly
portraying no sign of emotion. At first glance this is plausible, but after further investigation the mouth
seems to be turned down at the edges. His eyes are subtly looking down, with eyelids half closed and
eyebrows slightly raised. This gives the impression that rather than being indifferent, the man is
portrayed being in thought. This forms a stylistic tension within the painting, between the formality of
his frontal position with his uniform and the introspection shown in his facial expression.
Van Gogh devises movement within the painting through the background and the mailman s beard.
The beard splits into two directions, ultimately creating the illusion of a swirling motion. The beard
catches the movement of the pattern in the background, echoing unity and making for a dynamic work
of art. An analogous color scheme unites the different elements of the painting together. Additionally,
the piping on his uniform produces a less dimensional look when compared to the rest of the painting.
However, the flowers in the background bring life to the painting by contrasting with his detached
expression. In particular, the background gives the impression of wall paper: establishing a feeling of
home contrary to the man s identity as a mailman outside of his own home.

A Powerful Argument Analysis
The introduction section comprises of powerful argument techniques and the use of rhetoric
everywhere. One key point is the technique of commonplace, one of the building blocks of persuasion,
which is information or knowledge that is commonly shared among an audience that creates an
attitude of shared thinking. For example, Heinrichs uses pop culture examples of the Matrix, Britney
Spears and Animal House to better connect with the audience, therefore, making his topic more
interesting and relatable. Another key point is the technique of seduction where you manipulate
someone to desire something through appeals to emotion and the senses. Heinrichs uses the Food

The first step is setting your goal in what you what you want to achieve or obtain. True victory is
achieved when you get what you want from the other person not, necessarily, when you outscore your
opponent. The second step is determining your goals for your audience so you can determine different
techniques to change their mind. The persuasion of people can be achieved easier when you change
their mood, their opinion and their desire. The third step is determining the issue so you can meet your
goals. Blame, values and choice make up the three key categories of issues. To produce a productive
argument pinpointing the issue is imperative. The fourth step is selecting a correct tense to prevent
misinterpretations and accusations. The use of past tense determines guilt and deals out punishment
while the present tense distinguishes groups, gives praise and condemnation. The future tense
indicates future goals and how to achieve them. The final step is understanding and fitting into the
audience. In knowing the audience s beliefs and values you gain the mentality and the knowledge of
commonplace. The knowledge of this allows you to use decorum to better connect with the audience
and meet their expectations.
In chapter 13 of Thank you for Arguing, deductive and inductive logic are used to reach from a
commonplace to a conclusion and likewise, however, I m still confused in how the process of that

Every symbiote is different from each other, and they have different personalities. just like people.
1. VENOM
You re not actually Venom s first host. It may already had a very complicated relationship with the
first person it attempted to bond with, and they eventually rejected and abandoned it. It had some other
hosts after that, but nothing that really stuck for one reason or another. It just wants someone to be

American Ideal In The 1950s
Media and suburbs have defined and shaped American ideals in various ways, ranging from the ideal
family structure in America, the ideal appearance and behavior of individuals to the ideal social
arrangement and division in America.
Media defined the America dream as the ability of a family to live in suburbs and follow the gender
specific functions in American society. Through overwhelming representations of suburbia in media,
suburb living was shaped as an American ideal in the 1950s. Media portrays an ideal American home
life as one that involves home ownership in suburbs, which represented social status, guaranteed
family stability and happiness. Therefore, the lives of middle class families in suburbs have been
widely depicted in sitcoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The correlation between race and suburbs in America has been full of tension and exclusivity. In the
1950s, white flight, the migration of white people from city centres into suburbs, leaving behind the
black population in inner cities was common. This has contributed to a distinct spatial division
between the Anglo Americans and African Americans within the America. Being caused by the
existing income disparity, the minority African Americans, having a lower social economic status in
American, are mostly trapped in poverty cycle and are unable to afford housing ownership in suburbs.
Further aggravated by discriminative government policies towards the minorities, social division
within the country was made even more prominent. According to Haralovich, the FHA implemented
several strategies, in hope of establishing community homogeneity and stability. Protective covenants
were proposed to restrict racial mixing within neighborhoods (Haralovich, 1989). Loan applications,
accepted if submitted by whites, were rejected when filed by black families of similar standing whose
backgrounds were carefully screened to make sure they were in fact members of the middle class
(Maya MontaÒez, 2008). The city split in American was hugely caused by such deliberate racial
separatism. The measures that served to paint homogeneity within suburban neighborhoods

Questions:
You are BBBY s CEO, Steven Temares. It is April 2004 and you are about to decide what to do with
the company s excess cash:
Keep it?
Pay it out and issue debt?
You structure your analysis by answering the following questions:
1. What is wrong with building up cash? Provide (at least two) reasons in favor and against keeping
cash in the firm.
Against:
By paying out excess cash and issuing debt, BBBY could improve return to equity holders and raise
earnings per share (by a share repurchase).
Leverage can increase a firm s expected earnings per share. An argument is that by doing so, leverage
should also increase the firm s stock price. Because BBBY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Evaluate the decision from the perspective of BBBY s shareholders: does the proposed repurchase
program increase shareholder s value? Provide some calculations to illustrate your answer.
The repurchase program increases the shareholder s value. This is because of a rise in the price of the
shares of the original shareholders.
●Scenario with a debt to capital ratio of 40%
Increase in share price =(11228584.26/296854) 37 = 0.825275253
Total increase in value = 0.825275253*296854 = 244986.26
●Scenario with a debt to capital ratio of 90%
Increase in share price =(11534817.13/296854) 37 = 1.856869471
Total increase in value = 1.856869471*296854 = 551219.13
The answers are both the same as the answers of question 2 (PV of the interest tax shield).
4. For both scenarios, estimate BBBY s bond rating. Comment: does levering up deteriorate the
company s credit worthiness?
●Scenario with a debt to capital ratio of 40%
In exhibit 7A, we can see the debt to capital ratios for different bond ratings. We estimate the bond
rating to be A, because the debt to capital rating for this rating is 42.6%, so this the closest to the 40%

Gospel Of Wealth Analysis
Andrew Carnegie wrote The Gospel of Wealth in 1889 describing what he thought to be the
responsibilities of the wealthy. Carnegie believed that it was important for the wealthy to set an
example by living a modest life. He believed those with wealth should actively engage in using their
money to benefit the greater good of the public in enduring ways instead of squandering it on personal
indulgences. Rather than giving to charities he sought to help those who will help themselves; to
provide part of the means by which those who desire to improve may do so; to give those who desire
to rise the aids by which they may rise; to assist, but rarely or never to do all . In his essay, Carnegie
cites three ways, or modes , in which the wealthy can distribute their wealth:
1. It call be left to the families of the decedents (inheritance);
2. It can be bequeathed for public purposes (charity and taxation);
3. It can be administered during their lives by its possessors (philanthropy).
Carnegie believed that leaving all of the wealth of the deceased individual to their heirs may be
harmful to society. Carnegie explained that the common trend of leaving all of one s money to their
heirs was disgraceful, noting The man who dies thus rich dies disgraced. Rather than passing on
wealth to those who did not earn it and had no appreciation for how to acquire wealth on their own,
Carnegie proposed that the wealthy should use their money to benefit society while living. Aside from

Free verse is a form of non metrical writing that slowly start to emerge into verbal music, that could
be turned into an actual song. Free verse is actually organized of speech and image patterns instead of
the regular metric scheme. It s rhythm s are based on elements such as sounds, words, phrases,
sentences, and paragraphs. Instead of the traditional units of metrical feet per line. So it basically
removes some of the distance of poetic expression and gives a better and more structured organization,
which is better for the modern idiom and tone of the language.

Separation And Education Of Young First Nations Children
The ambition of the Canadian government in regard to First Nations People was to assimilate them

First Nations children was the major means to achieve their objective. With substantial involvement

The Conspiracy Of Atlantis
Conspiracy theories are everywhere in this world, one thing happens and people turn it into something
that may be true or may not be true. Atlantis is a conspiracy theory because no one truly knows if it
exists or not. Atlantis is supposedly an island in the Atlantic Ocean that is better than life itself.
Atlantis existed hundreds of thousands of years ago when the Greek gods ruled over the world.
Poseidon ruled Atlantis with his mortal wife Cleito, and were chosen to protect all of Atlantis.
Atlantean s had powers that could heal the ill, and their army was the strongest in the world. With all
that power something happened that is unknown and caused the Atlantean army to be wiped out in a
day and a night. The same thing happened to the island itself, a catastrophic flood and earthquake took
over Atlantis and caused it to fall into the ocean.
Atlantis was an extraordinary city that tragically and mysteriously vanished from a day and a night.
The story that Plato said is that Atlantis was a island that was better than life itself, As Stemman stated
in his book about Atlantis Poseidon, Greek God of the sea and also of earthquakes was given Atlantis,
and there he fell in love with a mortal called Cleito (56). The city of Atlantis is a place that had
questionable existence, Atlantis was a real naval power in the ancient world, but sunk into the ocean.

Essay on Factors Leading to The Collapse of Past Societies
At present day, our worldwide civilization of the human race continues to surpass many achievements
of other past societies. Everyday, new technological advances are being achieved and the population is
growing faster than it ever previously has. We must look back at past civilizations and analyze them to
understand what is in store for us in the future. In the pursuit of progress, human societies create
problems they do not have the resources or political motivation to solve, for fear of short term losses
in status or quality of life, which prevents further advancements and sometimes leads to collapse.1
Three factors that have enabled past civilizations to fall into progress traps and ultimately contributed

Collectively, it is not hard to imagine each city state setting themselves up for failure due to their
competitive nature. Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s
collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Secondly, the Roman civilization
had a number of social disputes, which contributed to its collapse. Among those, political instability
emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s history is that the
city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The assassination of Julius
Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after Caesar s death and the overall
political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion and trade disruption. These
disturbances created a ripple effect that lead to massive amounts of crime, increased cases of disease,
and widespread famine. Without the social conflicts regarding political relations, the Roman Empire
may not have fallen as extensively. Thirdly, social conflicts in China marked the end of the Ch in
dynasty in 206 B.C. Hungary peasants rebelled against their oppressive leaders. Revolting peasants
dug into an emperors tomb, stole weapons from his Terracotta army, and used them to overthrow the
existing emperors at the time. Although initially viewed as a positive event, the overthrowing of their
own leaders proved to have a devastating

The And Structure Of Family
The definition and structure of family has significantly developed throughout the years, with liberal
perspectives suggesting alternative family arrangements. In 1973, Michael Young and Peter Willmott
conducted studies of family life within the London area and concluded that the development and
changes within the structure of family life can be sorted into three categories of time. (Van Krieken et
al. 2017, p. 107). The pre industrial family (up until the early 19th century), the early industrial family
(Industrial Revolution early 20th century) and the symmetrical family (20th century onwards).

The Industrial Revolution completely transformed family life. In the 1970s, female social scientists,
such as Meg Luxton, began to explore different concepts of family life. (Fox 2015, p. 205). Luton s
1980 book More Than a Labour of Love examines the gender inequalities women faced where men
earned wages and women were expected to act as full time unpaid domestic workers within the home.
Therefore, as a byproduct of this Revolution, women became increasingly independent and career
motivated. (Volarevic 2012, p. 223). Consequently, women were becoming less domestically oriented,
and as a result, were disrupting the family structure. However, this caused major controversy, as many
functionalists were dissatisfied with this change. When exploring the functionalist perspective, many
analysts view the work of Talcott Parsons. Parsons argues that society establishes several institutions
in which reflect a shared valued system. (Grimes 1988, p. 183). He claims that each institution
conduct functional tasks in order to sustain social order. Therefore, when change was brought about,
many perceived moral chaos. Feminist sociologists combatted this argument by declaring that the
ideology of the traditional family structure was of disadvantage to women. (Hare Mustin 1978, p. 1).
They argued that functionalists overlook the inequalities women face in

The Nature Of Good And Evil In Bram Stoker s Dracula
Bram Stoker s Dracula expressed the nature of good and evil. An English realtor, Jonathan Harker,
journeyed to Transylvania in order to complete a sale for a residence in London to a Transylvanian

he can expand his power, creating a new monarchy of vampires.
The Christian religion depicted many instances throughout Dracula. Early in the novel, Harker was
preparing his journey to Dracula s castle until an innkeeper s wife put a crucifix around his neck
saying it was the eve of St. George s Day, when all the evil things in the world will have full sway.
Crucifixes were a way to show that Christian objects promised protection from evil. The communion

Christians believed that the consumption of God s body and blood through communion will give them

Dracula was as evil as a creature could become and was atrocious in the eyes of the Christian religion.
He was a symbol of the Anti Christ and Satan and the fact that holy items harmed Dracula meant he

Essay on Slave Ship
The Slave Ship by Marcus Rediker is a great fiction novel that describes the horrifying experiences of
Africans, seamen, and captains on their journey through the Middle Passage. The Middle Passage
marked the water way in the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and the Americas. The use of slaves
provided a great economy for the European countries due to the fact that these African slaves provided
free labor while cultivating sugar cane in the Caribbean and America. Rediker describes the slave
migration by saying, There exists no account of the mechanism for history s greatest forced migration,

Some Africans did not go without putting up a fight. For instance, Captain Tomba led many villagers
in burning huts and killing neighbors who cooperated with slave traders (14). He was later captured
and sent to the slave ship where he would be sold in the New World. The slaves also resisted by
refusing to eat. Most of them decided they would rather have death than to live the lifestyle on the
slave ships. The captains punished those who refused to eat by giving them lashes to the bare skin
until they decided to eat. Olaudah Equiano could be considered one of the more fortunate Africans
involved in the slave trade. Rediker uses Equiano to show how Africans were kidnapped and brought
to the slave ship. Equiano was home alone with his sister when he was snatched by a neighboring
enemy tribe. Tribes were kidnapping each other to sell to the slave traders for goods and even
weapons. Equiano was separated from his sister and sold off to merchants before actually boarding the
slave ship. He mentioned several times how he would rather die than be on the slave ship. He noticed
right away that the slave ship was equipped with nettings to prevent precisely such desperate rebellion

  • 2. Daisy In Teenage Wasteland The story, Teenage Wasteland by Anne Tyler, has limited characters and focuses on less. While reading Teenage Wasteland the character Daisy played a secondary character role. This character was portrayed as a protagonist by experiencing her own inner and external conflicts. Daisy who is the role of Danny s mother can be seen as a dynamic throughout the story. Anne Tyler does a excellent way of making the readers view Daisy s static thoughts and actions in direct and indirect manner. Daisy s character is directly encouraging and patient. On page 35 it reads, Daisy checked Donny s assignments everyday. She sat next to him as he worked, trying to be encouraging . This directly tells the readers how hard Daisy works to show effort into her son s grades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They acted like wardens. On weekends they enforced a curfew. And any time he went to a party, they always telephoned to see who would be supervising . These lines show how Daisy is a protective parent who cares about her young son. Daisy is portrayed as a mother figure who has limited trust and is worried about her son s future. Daisy is also indirectly shown to be open to change. Later onto the story, it shows how Daisy no longer calls parents before a party and trusts Danny to stay out later on the weekends. Open minded and precautionary can be used to describe Donny s mother. Throughout the events leading up to Donny s runaway, it doesn t directly or indirectly show that Daisy has a foil. Donny does however give Daisy a hard time when she has to pay for his wasteful tutor and trying to understand him. Daisy is heartbroken in the end trying to determine the events leading up to Donny s leaving. The author went into Daisy s mind and grab her emotions of hopelessness and confusion when seeing Donny s basketball. Daisy has a story line in these short days from actions to her inner ... • 3. Analysis Of The Back Of The Turtle By Kings These oral stories, or histories, provides historical actors with an opportunity to depict their own stories in their own words, where usual written records often discount the great unwashed. For Indigenous peoples, individuality is critical to shared histories. Politicians, activists, and business leaders may materialize frequently in official documents and the media, usually manipulating it for their purposes, but the rest of us very seldom do. In The Back of The Turtle, Kings portrays a identical similar setting; a world full of media coverage that is manipulated by large companies, such as Dominion; A spill? No said Winter. But evidently there has been some seepage. Possibly from one of our ponds. Didn t we fund an environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Classroom Behavior Management And Its Effects On Students... Classroom behavior management is considered to be one of the most important factors to determine student s behaviors. With that being said, the study evaluated classroom behavior strategies that are aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions Supports (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). According to research, the impact of SW PBIS has reduced problem behaviors and increased academic performance. However, despite the increase of PBIS many teachers continue to struggle with managing student behavior in the classroom (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). Often times ineffective classroom management negatively impacts students behaviors in where they are given less academic instruction. This is important because teacher s implementation of effective practices becomes affected by their job demands. Teachers are therefore less likely to have effective implementations if they are emotionally exhausted or lack self efficacy (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). More importantly, if teachers implement PBIS in their classrooms with positive stated rules and expectations they are more likely to praise their students and reduce behavioral problems. Whereas, teachers with higher rates of student disruptive behavior are more likely to have lower self efficacy and emotional exhaustion (Reinke, Herman Stormont, 2013). By all means, support has to be given to teachers in the field to protect children from having negative teacher student interactions. The study underscores the necessity to access ... • 5. An Analysis of Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio Essay An Analysis of Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio Under the guise of simplicity, Sherwood Anderson weaves an intricate tale of man s struggle for understanding and love in Winesburg, Ohio. Against a backdrop rich with symbolism, he examines man s truths crumbling behind the walls he has built. Anderson employs a strong use of symbolism in Adventure. Waiting in vain for a self made fantasy to realize, Alice Hindman sacrifices a meaningful life within society. Alice s outward existence appears to run steadily downhill into dull meaninglessness, her inward life climbs with increasing intensity toward a climax of desperation and hysteria (Joselyn 450). The intensity, a passionate restlessness, forces Alice to realize that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twisted apples, rejected by the pickers, are like the misunderstood misfits rejected by society; underneath they are just as wonderful and yet only a few know the sweetness of the twisted apples (Anderson 36). Paper pills, the unspoken ideas of Doctor Reefy, are doses of medicine he cannot prescribe. Another object, money symbolizes the means for freedom or control. Elizabeth Willard s father, on his death bed, gives her eight hundred dollars. Hoping she will take it and go away he pleads with her to keep silent about the money (Anderson 225). Ironically, the very symbol of freedom remains hidden behind a wall, although she struggles in silence to reveal its location and purpose. In Drink, Tom Foster s grandmother finds money and purchases tickets to escape a city filled with ugliness and crime and lust (Anderson 215). Arriving in Winesburg, a bustling town different from the small village of her childhood, she wonders if she has made a mistake. Money did not provide the freedom she sought. Money played an important part in Doctor Parcival s relationship with his brother. His brother controlled the family with his money and the bitterness remained with the doctor throughout his life. Jesse Bentley hungered for what money represented: control, a means for mastering the souls of his people (Anderson 67). The comparison between the Willard Hotel and the owner, Tom, is another example of Anderson s use of symbolism. The building is aging, the wallpaper fading. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hitchcock s Film Adaptation Of The 39 Steps The 39 Steps is a theatrical production based on John Buchan s 1915 novel and Alfred Hitchcock s 1935 film. Unlike the original source material, the production was designed for four actors to play over a hundred characters in total. Overall, it was an incredibly successful performance which did not fail to bring in a good story and laughs throughout. The story is set in Britain during the 1930s and the stage production shows points to this in a few ways. The most noticeable hints I found towards the time period was the costumes, which is what tends to draw my eye a lot. Alfred Hitchcock s film adaptation of The 39 Steps was very much in the film noir style. Black and white colour scheme, somewhat melodramatic acting, the whole lot. While the theatre production is not completely in this style, it still makes some allusions towards Hitchcock s film. For example, the acting is still very hammy and overdramatic (though not in a bad way by any means) and the main protagonist does monologue about himself. The production has only four actors to play all the characters, around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She only played three characters (Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret) and not all of them were on stage for that long. Her first role was killed off rather quickly, the next appeared briefly but then returned during the second act, and the third only progress to a certain point before leaving. While these three characters were distinct, made so by their different costumes and accents, it actually wasn t that easy. When Pamela returned later in the play, it took me a good while to clue in that we had seen her before. There was nothing instantly grabbing about that one role that made me instantly recognise her so I thought it was simply a new character. Unlike Annabella or Margaret, Pamela didn t have a noticeable German or Scottish accent and wasn t as melodramatic in her actions. In fact, Pamela had so little impact on me that I completely forgot her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Marine Corp Memorial Essay example The Marine Corp Memorial On February 19, 1945 five Marines and one Sailor participated in an event that would forever change the course of events for the Marine Corps. Undoubtedly one of the most powerful images of the 20th century is the flag raising atop Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima. The flag raising captured the courage, commitment and honor that these Marines held as they reached the top. These individuals were only doing what they were instructed to do, but it was the Pulitzer Prize winning photograph that was taken by Joe Rosenthal that turned this war time event into a world wide historical event. Behind the eagle, globe and anchor, the flag raising has taken the form of a second emblem for the Marine Corps. Felix de Weldon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Marines knew de Weldon s version of the statue and that was the statue they wanted. Ten professors from American University collectively dismissed de Weldon s sculpture as mediocrity and called it ordinary, ineffective, and unsculpturesque. Donald De Lu president of the National Sculpture Society stated that: Instead of immortalizing the brave Marines who have given their lives for their country, the proposed design, if permitted to be carried out would be only a source of bitter resentment, violent criticism, and ridicule. William Wheeler, later to become the President of the Sculpture Society, submitted as letter to Secretary of State Forrestal claiming numerous wrong doings by de Weldon. These charges ranged from shady business practices, expired visa, misrepresenting art, and shipping busts that were still wet and the suing for damages when they arrived damaged. In late 1947 the monument received another setback. The Commission of Fine Art, which has the aesthetic approval of all monuments placed in the Washington area, rejected the memorial because of its size and the location that was selected. Later that same year the Marine Corps War Memorial Foundation was formed with General Denig as president and Harry Dash as head of finance. It was later discovered that Harry Dash was embezzling funds amounting to over $100,000 of the contributions. This setback almost put an end to the memorial but though the tenacity of a ... Given that the inspiration for an artist s work can be so varied and diverse, I think it s hard to say that artists have a social responsibility given that some artists work don t necessarily convey or reflect the feelings or ideals of the greater bulk of society. • 16. Summary Of The Mailman By Van Gogh Description The mailman pictured is painted frontally dressed in a work uniform, its formality creating a sharp contrast with the rather informal background. His expression forms a look of indifference seemingly portraying no sign of emotion. At first glance this is plausible, but after further investigation the mouth seems to be turned down at the edges. His eyes are subtly looking down, with eyelids half closed and eyebrows slightly raised. This gives the impression that rather than being indifferent, the man is portrayed being in thought. This forms a stylistic tension within the painting, between the formality of his frontal position with his uniform and the introspection shown in his facial expression. Van Gogh devises movement within the painting through the background and the mailman s beard. The beard splits into two directions, ultimately creating the illusion of a swirling motion. The beard catches the movement of the pattern in the background, echoing unity and making for a dynamic work of art. An analogous color scheme unites the different elements of the painting together. Additionally, the piping on his uniform produces a less dimensional look when compared to the rest of the painting. However, the flowers in the background bring life to the painting by contrasting with his detached expression. In particular, the background gives the impression of wall paper: establishing a feeling of home contrary to the man s identity as a mailman outside of his own home. ... Carnegie believed that it was important for the wealthy to set an example by living a modest life. He believed those with wealth should actively engage in using their money to benefit the greater good of the public in enduring ways instead of squandering it on personal indulgences. Rather than giving to charities he sought to help those who will help themselves; to provide part of the means by which those who desire to improve may do so; to give those who desire to rise the aids by which they may rise; to assist, but rarely or never to do all . In his essay, Carnegie cites three ways, or modes , in which the wealthy can distribute their wealth: 1. It call be left to the families of the decedents (inheritance); 2. It can be bequeathed for public purposes (charity and taxation); 3. It can be administered during their lives by its possessors (philanthropy). Atlantis is a conspiracy theory because no one truly knows if it exists or not. With all that power something happened that is unknown and caused the Atlantean army to be wiped out in a day and a night. The same thing happened to the island itself, a catastrophic flood and earthquake took over Atlantis and caused it to fall into the ocean. Atlantis was an extraordinary city that tragically and mysteriously vanished from a day and a night. The story that Plato said is that Atlantis was a island that was better than life itself, As Stemman stated in his book about Atlantis Poseidon, Greek God of the sea and also of earthquakes was given Atlantis, and there he fell in love with a mortal called Cleito (56). • 32. Essay on Factors Leading to The Collapse of Past Societies At present day, our worldwide civilization of the human race continues to surpass many achievements of other past societies. Everyday, new technological advances are being achieved and the population is growing faster than it ever previously has. We must look back at past civilizations and analyze them to understand what is in store for us in the future. In the pursuit of progress, human societies create problems they do not have the resources or political motivation to solve, for fear of short term losses in status or quality of life, which prevents further advancements and sometimes leads to collapse.1 Three factors that have enabled past civilizations to fall into progress traps and ultimately contributed to the collapse of those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Collectively, it is not hard to imagine each city state setting themselves up for failure due to their competitive nature. Competition for power and an increasing need for prosperity lead to Copan s collapse, and ultimately the Classic Maya civilization as a whole. Secondly, the Roman civilization had a number of social disputes, which contributed to its collapse. Among those, political instability emerged as the root cause for its downfall.2 One of the revealing ironies of Rome s history is that the city state s native democracy withered as its empire grew. (Wright, 90). The assassination of Julius Caesar fueled existing conflicts further. Self proclaimed emperors after Caesar s death and the overall political imbalance of the weakening empire lead to war, invasion and trade disruption. These disturbances created a ripple effect that lead to massive amounts of crime, increased cases of disease, and widespread famine. Without the social conflicts regarding political relations, the Roman Empire may not have fallen as extensively. Thirdly, social conflicts in China marked the end of the Ch in dynasty in 206 B.C. Hungary peasants rebelled against their oppressive leaders. Revolting peasants dug into an emperors tomb, stole weapons from his Terracotta army, and used them to overthrow the existing emperors at the time. In 1973, Michael Young and Peter Willmott conducted studies of family life within the London area and concluded that the development and changes within the structure of family life can be sorted into three categories of time. (Van Krieken et al. 2017, p. 107). The pre industrial family (up until the early 19th century), the early industrial family (Industrial Revolution early 20th century) and the symmetrical family (20th century onwards). The Industrial Revolution completely transformed family life. In the 1970s, female social scientists, such as Meg Luxton, began to explore different concepts of family life. (Fox 2015, p. 205). Luton s 1980 book More Than a Labour of Love examines the gender inequalities women faced where men earned wages and women were expected to act as full time unpaid domestic workers within the home. Therefore, as a byproduct of this Revolution, women became increasingly independent and career motivated. (Volarevic 2012, p. 223). Consequently, women were becoming less domestically oriented, and as a result, were disrupting the family structure. However, this caused major controversy, as many functionalists were dissatisfied with this change. When exploring the functionalist perspective, many analysts view the work of Talcott Parsons. Parsons argues that society establishes several institutions in which reflect a shared valued system. (Grimes 1988, p. 183). He claims that each institution conduct functional tasks in order to sustain social order. Therefore, when change was brought about, many perceived moral chaos. Feminist sociologists combatted this argument by declaring that the ideology of the traditional family structure was of disadvantage to women. (Hare Mustin 1978, p. 1). They argued that functionalists overlook the inequalities women face in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An English realtor, Jonathan Harker, journeyed to Transylvania in order to complete a sale for a residence in London to a Transylvanian vampire, Count Dracula. What Harker did not know was that Dracula wanted to move to England so he can expand his power, creating a new monarchy of vampires. The Christian religion depicted many instances throughout Dracula. Early in the novel, Harker was preparing his journey to Dracula s castle until an innkeeper s wife put a crucifix around his neck saying it was the eve of St. George s Day, when all the evil things in the world will have full sway. He, being a satanic figure, revealed by the consumption of blood, and also being shown by his physical appearance; he had long, sharp fangs, fiery red eyes, and pointed ears. Dracula also had many abilities that are typically awarded strictly to God; he can control animals, the weather, and shapeshift. Christians believed that the consumption of God s body and blood through communion will give them everlasting life with God in heaven. Dracula consumed human blood in order to remain undead and to have strength. His horrific actions embodied the complete opposite of the God. Not only did these actions illustrated the opposition of the two figures but, it also showed how Dracula bypassed God and went to humans for his restoration in life after death. Therefore, he shunned God as the supplier of life. Dracula was as evil as a creature could become and was atrocious in the eyes of the Christian religion. He was a symbol of the Anti Christ and Satan and the fact that holy items harmed Dracula meant he was pure evil. In the end, Harker, Van Helsing, Mina, and the love interests of Mina s friend, Lucy Westenra (Quincey Morris, Jack Seward, and Arthur Holmwood) fought against Dracula to prevent his evil. The Middle Passage marked the water way in the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and the Americas. The use of slaves provided a great economy for the European countries due to the fact that these African slaves provided free labor while cultivating sugar cane in the Caribbean and America. For instance, Captain Tomba led many villagers in burning huts and killing neighbors who cooperated with slave traders (14). He was later captured and sent to the slave ship where he would be sold in the New World. The slaves also resisted by refusing to eat. Most of them decided they would rather have death than to live the lifestyle on the slave ships. The captains punished those who refused to eat by giving them lashes to the bare skin until they decided to eat. Olaudah Equiano could be considered one of the more fortunate Africans involved in the slave trade. Rediker uses Equiano to show how Africans were kidnapped and brought to the slave ship. Equiano was home alone with his sister when he was snatched by a neighboring enemy tribe. Tribes were kidnapping each other to sell to the slave traders for goods and even weapons. Equiano was separated from his sister and sold off to merchants before actually boarding the slave ship. He mentioned several times how he would rather die than be on the slave ship. He noticed right away that the slave ship was equipped with nettings to prevent precisely such desperate rebellion (109).
