Why Are Hedgehogs Alive
Ever since we were younger we always thought that many things were alive but what made us think
that it was alive? For example, why are hedgehogs alive? One of the ways how hedgehogs are alive is
that they have a cellular structure and function, they reproduce, they use metabolism, they use
homeostasis, they have a long line of heredity, they have evolved, and they use interdependence.
Hedgehogs are mammals so they reproduce sexually and it usually takes 35 58 days for their baby to
be born. typically the male travels much more farther to find a mate than the female. A female can
carry 6 hoglets and once they are born it takes 6 8 to be able to live on its own. Once they re born they
do not have spines and born blind but after a few hours

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Case Study Essay
Case Study: A thirty six year old male has developed severe muscle weakness throughout the body.
The condition began fifteen months ago with a left foot drop and within a year, he described difficulty
with speech and swallowing, muscle twitching and cramping, and muscular atrophy throughout the
upper and lower limbs. Within the last two months, his breathing has become more difficult, and there
has been a noticeable difference in his voice. Prior to the fifteen months, he presented little to no
symptoms. The patient, a medical doctor, has a wife and two young children. What began as
seemingly innocent muscle weakness and cramping has lead to this patient s fatal diagnosis. He is one
of 2.5 per 100,000 people worldwide who have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, the muscle weakness will affect a limb, and nasal or slurred speech will soon develop. If the
patient is limb onset ALS, the symptoms will first occur in the arms and legs. They may have
difficulty with dexterous tasks such as writing or opening a door. If the lower limbs are affected, they
may notice trouble walking and experience tripping or stumbling. Dropped foot, as demonstrated in
the above case study, can also develop from muscle weakness and can cause the individual to drag his
or her foot. Limb onset ALS is more typical than all other types, occurring in about 75% of diagnosed
individuals. The other 25% may present symptoms described as bulbar onset ALS. These patients may
first notice difficulty with proper speech and swallowing. Patients will often lose their voice and have
difficulty forming words, caused by a loss of tongue mobility. In rare cases, patients might
demonstrate respiratory onset ALS where the intercostal muscles are compromised first. Regardless of
which occur first, affected individuals will generally experience most of the symptoms as the disease
progresses. Specifically, symptoms that include difficulty swallowing, moving, forming words, tight
muscles, spasticity, and/or exaggerated reflexes occur when the upper motor neurons have been
damaged. When lower motor neurons are damaged, symptoms such as muscle weakness, atrophy,
cramping, and twitching will occur. In some cases, a few of the muscle neurons that

The Titans Research Paper
The example of myth in modern culture was Nashville s own Tennessee Titans. The Titans are a
professional football team that came to Nashville in 1997 under a different name the Tennessee Oilers.
In a CBS interview with owner Bud Adams, he said, We wanted a new nickname to reflect strength,
leadership and other heroid qualities. Later in the interview, Adams said, Titans come from early
Greek mythology and the fact that Nashville is known as the `Athens of the South makes the Titans
name very appropriate.
The Titans were a mythological group that ruled over the world before the Olympians. They were also
known as the Elders Gods that lived on Mount Othyrs. The Titans were believed to have originated

The Tell-Tale Heart
The short occipitovertebral artery separates into two arteries: the occipital artery and the vertebral
artery, which connects to the skull and vertebral column respectively. The top of the right and left vena
cava are connected to the jugular vein and flow into the lingual vein from the mouth and maxillary
vein. The internal jugular vein however; as well as the subscapular vein from the shoulder, receive
blood from the innominate vein. The blood flows directly into the subclavian vein, formed by the
musculocutaneous veins from the muscles of the skin of the side and back, and into the brachial vein
from the forelimb.
The posterior vena cava carries deoxygenated blood to the lower half of the body the hepatic veins of
the liver, the renal veins of the kidney, and the genital veins of the gonads. Also connected to the
posterior vena cava is the hepatic portal system, an abdominal vein formed by the two pelvic veins.
The hepatic portal vein of this system provides blood flow to the stomach, intestine, and spleen. The
renal portal system contains veins, as mentioned previously, to the kidneys and the veins obtain the

A female frog has its ovary attached dorsally on one side and is suspended into the coelom by a
mesentry, which is a coiled oviduct with a funnel shaped opening called the ostium at its anterior end,

each suspend from the dorsal abdominal wall by a mesentery, and the several vasa efferentia are small
ducts that carry sperm from the testes into the kidneys followed by cloaca by the ureters, also known
as the genital ducts. The mating position of frogs is called the amplexus, a position where the male

Increasing Faculty Resistance And General Education...
Decreasing Faculty Resistance to General Education Assessment The assessment of general education
courses within the realm of higher education has been a topic of concern and some contention as
external regulatory bodies, accrediting agencies, and donors have become increasingly interested in
seeing quantifiable results from these courses. While universities strive to maintain effective
assessment of their programs, one area that consistently falls by the wayside is the assessment of
general education courses. These courses have been difficult for many universities to effectively
assess due to a multitude of reasons, ranging from the large number of general education courses
offered, to a lack of support and cohesion on the part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The anticipated outcome of the study will be a decrease in faculty resistance to assessment efforts in
general education courses.
Friedman Stone (2002) highlight an issue on this topic: that colleges and departments are receiving
pressure, both externally, from regulatory and accrediting bodies, and internally, from board members
and upper administration, to expand upon general education assessment efforts (Friedman Stone,
2002). This pressure is falling on the faculty who teach these courses. The faculty, in turn, are resistant
to administrative efforts to dictate what, if any, assessments are being given in their classes. Although
Friedman Stone address this resistance, more research must be done on how to effectively overcome
it. In another article, Banta et Al. (1993), stated that, there is tension between the two principle
purposes of assessment: demonstrating accountability and improving curricula, instruction, and
student services. Governing and accrediting bodies are more concerned with demonstrating
accountability since the stipulations of their investment in a university are measured through
quantifiable program benchmarks. However, the teaching faculty value assessment in terms of
curriculum improvement and as a way to refine instructional methodology. Banta et Al s quote
highlights this disconnect. According to another article published by Kramer (2006) the tension

The Pyrenees and the Sierra de Guara offer us the best conditions for the practice of canyoning in
Huesca.
Canyoning is done in narrow canyons cut into the bedrock stone, forming narrow gorges, in which we
gradually overcome the obstacles, and slopes and drops that we find along the way: whether walking,
jumping, swimming, abseiling or rappeling, sliding down, downclimbing, etc.
We jump to pools of crystalline water, slide by down slides that water and years have carved into the
rock. We will use ropes to descend with the abseiling (rappelling) technique.
To practice canyoning it is not necessary to have previous experience, and we have different levels of
difficulty for you to choose from, since we are in the best area for the practice of canyoning.
In the practice of canyoning, we usually descend aquatic canyons, but it is possible to descend dry
canyons in case that the weather, rain or cold winter does not allow us to descent water canyons.
Therefore, this activity can be done all year in Huesca.
Our qualified, certified and extensive experienced guides will accompany you safely, and you only

A Major Goal Of Public Safety
A major goal in Canada is to maintain the safety of the society. Therefore, in order to control this goal
of public safety penitentiaries are used for confide individuals who commit serious crimes. Prison
tours was organized to provide the understanding into the attributes of imprisonment. In the article
Problematizing Carceral Tours , Justin Piché and Kevin Walby claim carceral tours display minimal
understanding of prisons. They support their argument by pointing out the infractions of the carceral
tours. In opposition, in the article In Praise of the Carceral Tour: Learning from the Grendon
Experience , David Wilson, Roy Spina, and Joyce Canaan argue the benefits of the carceral tours.

This method of carceral tours is used to maintain the vision that the prison is kept well maintained and
ethical to there prisoners. The justification behind the vision is to sustain the CSC (The Correctional
Service of Canada) mission statement. The mission statement is to demonstrate general understanding
of the objectives and operations of the prison. The authors stated that penitentiaries rarely provide
their rehabilitative and correctional ideals . The complexity of prison life is often disregarded, this is
an issue seeing as it is the leading attraction for tourists. The final argument that is made is the effect is
has on the prisoners. The carceral tours portray prisoners to be dangerous. The staff often dehumanize
prisoners, using regulations that tourists are ordered to follow regarding their interactions with the
prisoners. This often impacts the tourist judgement of the prisoners. Most importantly, the dignity for
the prisoners are not being respected. In conclusion, the research founded, pedagogical value was not

findings in order of power and will solidify the decision.
Potential Challanges
Several potential challenges exist to the validity and reliability of the research questions, data and
analysis. After looking at the survey and the data collected, some concerns are apparent to the validity
of the information. This survey conducted used two methods. The first method was an online survey.
The second survey method was a face to face questionnaire. The face to face survey was conducted in
struggling retail locations and vicinity. Shopping Malls and heavy populated areas were the locations
chosen for this survey. One major concern is that the participants used were not necessarily current
Starbucks customers. The purpose for this was to increase and promote Starbucks to non customers.
Questions regarding the current Starbucks menu and ambiance does not solicit a true response if the
individual surveyed is not a customer. Furthermore, competition coffee retailers are also a large
concern. Surveying a

Neutralization Theory
As a society, we are obsessed with murder and we strive to understand why it occurs. In order to
understand why murders occur one must understand the motivations present and be able to classify
them as instrumental or expressive. In the case of Joseph Ortiz, a member of the 500 Block street
gang, he was motivated to kill by gain and anger. When applying criminological theories one must
consider all aspects of the case at hand. No perfect theory exists to explain every homicide. Many
believe that differential association and neutralization theory explain many aspects of gang homicides,
such as the one Ortiz committed. Differential association is important because it focuses on the
influences of intimate others and how the behaviors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both criminology theories both fall under the positivists school of thought, which highlights the
importance of social and cultural influences (Wood Alleyne, 2010). Neutralization and differential
association theories oppose classical school of thought because they state that killers are not born.
Furthermore, both theories are social process theories and involving the learning process along with
the effect of external influences on individuals behavior (Wood Alleyne, 2010). Neutralization theory
is actually an extension of differential association theory. Both theories deal with attitudes and values
that influence perceptions, which drives one to criminal acts such as homicide in the case of Mr. Ortiz.
The process of learning techniques is another similarity among these theories. Indeed both theories are
used to learn how and when to commit homicide. Personal group influences, whether criminal or not,
also play a role in each theory. Personal group influences can include close family members, relatives,
friends or peers. Inappropriate socialization is also a contributor to non conventional acts. Both
theories explain the reasons that led to the murders of rival street gang members and how they were
learned. Overall, both theories help explain how individuals exposed to violent crimes such as murder
in gangs, learn from the events and end up engaging in homicides due to social and environmental
influences and

Friar Tuck
1 Project Overview In this paper we will examine the process that Friar Tucker used to decide which
project to implement that best supported their organizational goals. We will also use similar techniques
to create a simple strategic plan outline to be used to guide us on a personal project. According to the
simulation, All projects that an organization undertakes are linked to the organization s strategic plan.
This entails the development of a process by which projects are selected based on their relevance to
the strategic plan (Wideman, 1999). This of course is much easier said then done. However after
completing the first step of the project by insuring that the project is necessary and pertains to the

Who will do the work? Are there any building permits that are needed? What do you do with the old
fence marital? Are there any government programs that can be used to assist in paying for this project?
Which way is the smooth side of the fence going to face? Yes, there are a lot of questions that must be
answered and a great deal to think about so let s get started with the obvious... talking to the neighbor.
After doing some basic cost analysis, (cost of supplies, workers vs. self instillation, and time) a
tentative agreement was reached to share the cost and a work assignment was reached. One member of
this new team will price the materials, call for building permit information, and inquire into pre
packaged fence designs that may be at this fledgling team s disposal. The other member of this team
will inquire about government programs that may be available, cost of workers, and old fence material
disposal information. Normally, when creating a project there is a structured formula that a project
manager will use through each stage of the project. From the project intention stage, to getting the
project off the ground, and eventually reviewing the final processes stage and making adjustments as
needed before stepping back to see the work that has been done. In our small project all of the steps
may not be necessary, but most will be utilized even in some small way. The process should go a bit
like this: The Project Initiation Stage is concerned with taking these

Implementation Of A Competitive Environment
In today s competitive environment, oOrganisations are now facinge pressure to meet community
expectations regarding quality pf product, lower cost and continue improvement constant change in
the external environment driven by heightened competition and more demanding customers (Nahm et
al. 2006; Karim et al. 2008; Drohomeretski et al. 2014). Running operations at the lowest cost, with
greater reliability and speed and a superior ability to change and continuously improve, are some of
the pillars in the development of operations strategy in organisations that seek to survive in this
competitive environment (Hayes and Pisano 1996; Ward and Duray 2000; Voss 2005; Datta and Roy
2011). Process management is aimed directly at organisation specific processes and capabilities, and
in particular, at streamlining the smooth flow of linked processes across an organisation. Improved
processes affect the potential for firms capabilities that lead to competitive advantage in terms of
operational performance. Expectations from process management practice are improved quality and
efficiency, increased revenue, reduced costs, and particularly, higher profits (Ataseven, Prajogo and
Nair 2014). Therefore, 75% of organisations currently employ some type of process improvement
strategies to meet such expectations (Dhallin 2011). Healthcare organisations are not an exception to
this global competition and customer demand. Because of increased competition between healthcare

Haitian Bridge Scenario
SCENARIO The French government had donated that bridge to help the Haitian people. As I stated
before, this kind of bridge must not stay on the terrain for a long time. This time would be different
due to the peculiar situation of those villages. The cities of Dondon and San Rafael used the former
bridge for many purposes like to take children to school, go to the doctor appointments and day by day
displacements. The old bridge had fallen three years ago during a tropical storm. Since that day,
people used a ford path in the river to cross. They really needed that bridge.
PUTTING THE PLAN IN PRACTICE
Finally, our platoon arrived at the bridge place. Already on arrival, we realized the first problem. The
road that led to the bridge was very narrow. This greatly hindered the way that we had to put our
bridge material on the ground. Looking around us, we realized we had a solution. There was a private
land next to the perfect installation location to accommodate all material. I shifted up to the residence
with our sergeant who was a French interpreter. I knocked in her door and my partner explained the
entire situation. She listened us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was doing the safety of the work site. A large number of curious Haitians surrounded the place trying
not to miss any detail of the work. Our stuff was widespread, impairing the smooth progress of work.
Despite all this, we were all motivated and glad to help those people. We had a hard work long day. In
the end of day, we were exhausted. Next morning everything would start again. The place we were
was quite away from the city. Because of that, there was no internet signal available. We would be
nearly 15 days without contact with our families. Looking to the bright side of it was the opportunity

How Did The Allies Lose Gallipoli
The Gallipoli Campaign (April 1915 January 1916) might have been the biggest failure of the allies in
WW1. The allied goal of freeing the Gallipoli Strait to allow ships to Russia in the winter and their
goal knocking the Ottomans out of the war by reaching Constantinople was never achieved. They had
failed because the Allies severely underestimated the Ottomans, the Allied troops were dropped off at
the wrong place, the Allies were not ready to attack and the Allies made many critical mistakes.
The Allies had planned that they would quickly capture the Gallipoli peninsula without much
resistance from the Central Powers. However; by the time that the Allied troops had arrived in
Gallipoli, the Ottomans had already created all the defences and trenches they needed and had already
settled in them. They had also fortified themselves very well, meaning that it ... Show more content on

The original plan was to land on a beach which would not have cliffs so that they could easily advance

high cliffs on the beach, which meant that they were all easy targets for the Ottoman troops, who had
already set up their defences. The Ottoman troops could easily shoot the Allied troops whilst they
were trying to get over the cliffs and advance. That meant that the Allied troops had to dig into the
ground and make trenches to shelter from the enemy bullets. Making trenches meant that the Allied
troops could not advance as quickly as they wanted to. Landing on the wrong beach also meant that
their original plans wouldn t work and that their maps would not help them anymore. As a result of
landing on the wrong beach, the allies couldn t follow the plan as well as they wanted to because their

Quality of Judicial Performance
The quality of judicial performance Quality of judicial performance The performance of judges can be
measured, generally speaking, by the ability of the judges. There are some methods used to measure
the performances of judges for this purpose. These include a review of the past performance of the
judges. Here, the judges are gauged according to citations to prior judgments, affirmation of the
judges by higher courts and the ability to produce and put pressure. The judges may also be measured
by their native talents and experiences whereby issues of the number of years a particular judge has
been working at the lower courts and the quality of the law school they might have attended. Another
measure for the quality of judges is depreciating ability; some judges performance may decline due to
cognitive impairments, while others may gain experience over time. These measures are geared
towards ensuring that a high quality of judicial performance is guaranteed and maintained (Choi et al,
2011). Absolute immunity Absolute immunity involves protection of government officials from legal
action. This protection though does not include the intentional or malicious engagement in criminal
acts by the officer. For example, in the case of King v. Simpson (1999), the parole board members
were given absolute immunity to deny or grant parole (Alarid Carmen, 2010). Qualified immunity
This type of immunity focuses more on the executive officers and exonerates any wrong doing by the

Robert Johnson Cross Road Blues
Cross Road Blues was recorded in 1936 (Sullivan, 2013) and has been one of the most notable stories
ever told. The track features Robert Johnson himself in a variation of the 12 bar blues structure as he
deviates from the form to bare all emotion. His vocal prowess and slide guitar mastery is expressed in
the usage of microtonal intervals which was common in the style of Delta Blues. Robert Johnson was
a prolific songwriter who died at 27. His life and music was poorly documented as he did not receive
much public recognition during his lifetime. Not much was said about this legendary musician, he was

Moreover, a connection between the blues and the hoodoo tradition is also seen throughout history,
most notably by Muddy Waters in Hoochie Coochie Man. (Schroeder, 2004) A counter interpretation
can also be made with the context of the socio political environment of Mississippi in the 1930s.
Lynching is an extrajudicial practice carried out as an informal execution of an alleged criminal. In the
1900s, lynch mobs were a frequent way to highlight the economic and political differences as the
dominant group would suppress their competition in this way, especially in the south. It was reported
that African American men were lynched to death in Mississippi on a weekly basis. Since 1874, the
Jim Crow laws had been established and stayed in effect until 1975. This legalizes the separation of
races in the south of America and condemned coloured Americans to a second class citizenship
(Tischauser, 2012). These conditions became the source of many blues numbers which often wail the
gruesome experiences of victims of systemic racism such as Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday, as it was
a common reaction to perform songs of protest against racial injustice in juke joints. Artists are often
cryptic about their messages to cloak topics that seemed unsafe to explore. (Santelli,

Should People Be Allowed To Keep Pitbulls As Pets Essay
Dogs are friendly, loyal house pets. They are intelligent, so they can provide services to people, such
as working with police officers at airports searching bags for bombs and illegal drugs. Dogs work as
guards protecting families and their most valuable belongings. Many disabled people live with trained
dogs. These animals are versatile, intelligent and loyal. By far, dogs are more superior pets than any
other pet. People should be allowed to keep pit bulls as pets because there is a lot of misunderstood
information that people do not know about, and they are not aggressive, and they are an excellent dog/
pet. Many people have wrong information about pit bulls. After adopting a pit bull herself, Dickey was
shocked to witness the negative responses her pet evoked (Kirkus). These dogs are very smart, and
most everybody does not realize that. They are very easy to train and learn things quickly. Back in the
day, pit bulls were used to help hunters hunt and kill bears. They are very affectionate towards their
owners. They like to remind you regularly of how they feel towards and that means a lot of kisses and
tail wagging.
Unless you raise them to fight, pit bulls are kind to the people they are comfortable around. They are
usually seen as killer fighting dogs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast O Brother Where Art Thou And The Odyssey
Comparing and Contrasting
Ancient Literature and Modern movies can portray the same messages. Both relate to human
condition, but oftentimes the form reflects the age in which it is written. The movie O Brother, Where
Art Thou? (2000) uses a modern setting (1930s Mississippi) to relate to Homer s epic The Odyssey
(800 BCE). The epic The Odyssey by Homer and The movie O Brother Where Art Thou by The Coen
Brothers both tell the story of a protagonist that takes a long journey home to his wife. Both face many
obstacles along the way. In the movie, Sheriff Cooley is compared to Poseidon, the Blind old man is
compared to Tiresias and Ulysses is compared to Odysseus reconnection with his wife. Both the
movie and epic show that human nature are present in both the epic and movie.
Sheriff Cooley in the movie and Poseidon in the epic are both chasing Ulysses and Odysseus. The

The Old man states, You seek a great fortune you three who are in chains and you will find fortune

lights of home are all you seek. But anguish lies ahead (The Odyssey). Tiresias is telling Odysseus that
he will one day return home but it will be a long painful road ahead (The Odyssey). This shows that

Estimated to be diagnosed in 1 of every 8 women in their lifetime, breast cancer continues to present a
public health concern (Haber 2322) . Breast cancer is not biased. It affects men and women of all races
and ages. Cancer represents 30% of the burden posed by no communicable diseases in the Region of
the Americas of the World Health Organization (Luciani, Silvana 640) . In men it affects less than 1
percent of the population. Routine mammograms and checkups are not only healthy but can also save

Mammograms are probably the most important tool doctors have in diagnosing breast cancer.
Although they do not prevent one from acquiring breast cancer, it does help diagnosing as early as
possible. Mammography has a false negative (missed cancer) rate of at least 10 percent (Wikipedia) .
Mammograms rarely miss cancerous cells. That of which they do miss is because of the density in the
breast. A false negative is more common among younger women due to the fact that younger woman
have more density in their breasts. There are four different categories found by mammograms: 1.
easily treated cancers. 2. aggressive cancers that are detected too late. 3. slow growing cancers that
ultimately will not harm or kill a patient before natural causes do, and 4. a small number of cancers
who treatment outcome is better because of early detection. Mammograms will help to find all kinds
of cancers that are undetectable by self examinations.
Women from their twenties to thirties should get a mammogram every three years while women forty
years old and older should get annual checkups (unless there is an issue that is found, which will
usually cause checkups to be every 3 to 6 months). Annual checkups can help detect cancer early on,
which in return would have less severe results. Even for women 50+, skipping a mammogram every
other year would miss up to 30% of cancers (mammography) . The benefits and risks of
mammography differ by age. In

Understanding the Greatness of the Microscope
Diseases and plagues have claimed millions of lives over the course of human history. Many of the
illnesses that plagued the human race could be found at the microscopic level. The microscope, one of
the greatest human inventions, has helped find treatments for many of these illnesses, solve crimes,
and see into the cells that make humans what they are.
To understand the greatness of the microscope, the history of the microscope should be made known.
The origins of the microscope can be traced back to the Roman invention of glass in the first century
A.D. When the Romans experimented with different shapes of glass, they discovered that when the
middle of the glass was thicker than the edges, things that were seen through the glass appeared larger.
This discovery evolved into the first eye glass, which was made in the thirteenth century. The first true
microscope was first invented in 1590 by the Dutch glasses makers Zacharias Janssen and his father,
Hans. The first person to build and actually use the microscope scientifically was Anton van
Leeuwenhoek in the seventeenth century. He achieved much greater magnification than other
scientists had, and because of this, he was able to be the first to see miniscule creatures such as
bacteria and microorganisms living in a drop of water.
One of the reasons the microscope is a great invention is the help it has provided in the field of
medicine. The microscope has helped to diagnose and find treatments for diseases.

Capitalism Authoritarianism And Capitalism
ESSAY ON ANARCHISM AND CAPITALISM BY TARIF AURANGZEB
There have been many political and economic ideologies that have adorned or stained this planet such
as fascism, anarchism, monarchism, collectivism, communism, capitalism, syndicalism,
individualism, socialism, authoritarianism and many hybrid ideologies. The ones we will be talking
about in this essay are capitalism and anarchism. Both have existed and spread the extent of its
influence, with the former rapidly gaining traction during the industrial revolution and becoming the
ideology that rules nearly all the political and economic spheres of life on this planet as of modern
times. They are both freshly adopted ideologies that have come into the limelight just a couple
hundred years ago. The fact of the matter is that anarchism is less defective of an ideology and more
concerned for the welfare of the people.
Capitalism has many defects and limitations to it that are ever so apparent in today s society. One
among them is the income disparities, poverty and lack of workers innovation that ensue as a result of
its competitive nature. This ideology is composed of three main components: wage labour, the private
ownership of the means of production and production for exchange and profit. It is based on the
exploitation of the working class as profits are made by overworking and underpaying workers. Thus
producing surplus value. Which means workers are getting less than they worked for. Not only that,

Redemption In Les Miserables
The Change From Past To Present True redemption is when guilt leads to good (Khaled Hosseini). Not
one person on earth is completely free from wrongs. Humans have lapses in judgement that can hurt
them and others. Some people believe you can be redeemed and can put your wrongs behind you,
these people are kind and generous. Others believe you have one chance to get it right, these people
are often angry and judgmental. There are also those who believe that someone can t be redeemed, but
begin to realize that people can change. By looking at the Bishop, Javert, and Jean Valjean and their
actions it becomes clear that Les Miserables is a book about redemption coming to those who did
wrongs in their past and the behaviors of those who believe and don t believe. The Bishop was only in
Les Miserables for a short time but the effect he had on Jean Valjean carried throughout the entire
book. The Bishop believes that people can make lousy decisions but still be redeemed of them. When
Jean Valjean stole the silver the Bishop didn t condemn him, he gave him the chance to change the
path he was going down, . . . God has brought you out of darkness. I have bought your soul for God
(Movie). The Bishop s feelings on redemption made him a kind generous man, giving Jean Valjean a
chance at a new life. Javert is a foil of the Bishop, he believes people can t be redeemed of their
wrongs and is severe as a result. Throughout much of the book the police inspector, Javert,

NFPA 13 Database Analysis
We have a parking garage that is approximately 15 ft high with concrete deck and structural beams up
to 24 in. depth forming bays of approximately 14 ft by 10 ft. The parking a garage has a series of car
hoists to allow for double occupancy of vehicles being stacked one over another. We are trying to
position the sprinklers to avoid clearance issues. What is the occupancy classification for this
application?
We have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard as well as the
2016 edition. Our informal interpretation is that the occupancy classification is Extra Hazard (Group
2).
This was specifically addressed in the 2016 edition of the NFPA 13 standard. The 2013 edition does
not address car stackers. New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The base requirement is Section 8.6.6.1 that indicates that the clearance between the deflector and the
top of storage shall be 18 in. or greater. There are times where that is impractical where additional
sprinklers have to be provided. This would require sprinklers to be placed on the four corners of the
vehicle. Annex material A.8.5.6.1 addresses this clearance issue that states, The 18 in. clearance does
not apply to vehicles in concrete parking structures. Since that is located in Section 8.5 General, this
applies to all sprinkler types. Parking garages with low height ceilings and piping runs with dry pipe
systems create clearance issues for the sprinklers even without car stackers. This usually involves
higher vehicles such as large SUVs and vans. Even if the vehicle locations are initially specified and
sprinklers are placed accordingly, the striped parking locations can be moved at a later date and
impacting the sprinkler clearances. This application has robust concrete construction and considered
fire resistive. Thus, damage to the structure is not likely with sprinkler protection. The beams in this
structure also create bays that will aid in activation of the sprinklers and contain the heat plume. The
sprinkler system should be able to cool upper layer gas temperatures, prevent flashover, and control
the fire. Sprinkler systems are designed to control the fire and allow time for the responding fire
service to finish the job. Since this application has cars stacked that are not specifically addressed by
the standard in effect, this is worth discussing with the AHJ. As indicated by Section 1.5 Equivalency,
alternative arrangements are acceptable provided that the level of safety is not reduced. There is no
better source for supporting equivalency than a newer edition of the same installation

Comparing Blade Runner And Lillith s Brood
How do we know we are human? How do we know if we are alien? We have the same features, we do

Deckerd running after Zhora? What crime did Zhora commit? Only to recognize that Zhora was being

are known as the replicants. From my understanding Bryant feels these replicants are taking over the
world. This scene is at the beginning of the movie only for Deckard to realize what was the point of all
this killing. The chasing to kill these Replicants made Deckard realize they had the same feelings,
thoughts and aspirations. When tables are turned and Deckerd is being chased. Fortunately for both

St. Joseph s Motivation
Motivation
Motivation for parish staff to continue work at St. Joseph s resides in their desire to foster the mission
of the Church both on the broad level and on the more specific level of St. Joseph s. We felt the
fulfillment of the parish staff strongly. While working at the parish is indeed a job, we experienced a
mentality that staff members felt privileged to work at St. Joseph s. One of the accountants, Cathy
Bohnen, stated she looks forward to coming in to St. Joseph s. We believe this supports the notion that
the environment at St. Joseph s is one which encourages and supports its staff members simply by
creating an environment conducive to the work expected of staff.
The parish nurtures this innate motivation to work for the Church in several ways; first, there is daily
morning prayer for the staff. Whoever is around and desires to participate gathers at the front desk
where a short prayer reflection occurs. In addition, Fr. Creagan encourages daily Mass; these practices

The Human Effects Of Human Impact On The Environment
In our study about human impact on the amount of plastic in the environment, we discovered some
very interesting results. In our study, we walked through the streets of Sisters, Oregon. We went into
the local businesses to talk to them about their usage of plastic bags or paper bags. We wanted to see
just how much of Sisters was using only paper bags. We asked them to provide an approximate
number of paper and plastic bags that they give out to customers on a daily basis. We explained to
them some of the bad effects of plastic bags on the environment. If the owner was only using plastic
bags, then we suggested ideas to limit the plastic bags, such as a punch card for those who choose to
avoid the usage of plastic bags. We will highlight three of our interviews in this article, as well as

Thinking about the artists who are experts in changing certain photographs, they could easily change a
photograph to show a different aspect which occurred. A photograph passes for incontrovertible proof
that a given thing happened (Sontag). If an individual has committed a crime, all the police need is a
photograph or a film which shows the individual clearly and they will face the crime fully. The
increase in technology is a positive and a negative. The idea of people who are experts in the new
technology changing the photograph thus changing the idea of the photograph is the only negative
from this idea of using photographs as evidence. We love to take photographs as much as we can, if
they can be used for aspects such as this we could help change the way our world is possibly run.
However, the photographs need to stay loyal and

full of action, drama, and fantasy. It is based on the people having the judgement about other on their
appearance. On the other hand, the fantasy novel Fool Moon is written by Jim Butcher. Fool Moon is
the novel which follows the character of Harry Dresden, who is known as professional wizard. It also
shows Dresden being skeptical in telling the truth about what is happening in the surrounding to other
people, especially to women (Kim and Murphy). It is also said that we should never judge the book by
its cover, in the same way, we should never judge the people by their appearance. From the episode

He is also reluctant to tell the truth to Murphy. He feels that she is not able to handle the crimes they
are facing, and he puts her career on the line leading everyone to not trust and dislike her (Jim 31). In
chapter three, Murphy says I am not your daughter, Dresden, she said, in a very soft, calm voice. I am
not some porcelain doll on a self. I m a police officer. I catch bad guys and I put their asses away, and
if it comes down to it, I take a bullet so that some poor housewife or CPA doesn t have to (Jim 31).
This shown that though Murphy is a female, she can still handle the things by herself. Also, at the end,
Murphy proves that she is just as strong and brace the men as she fights alongside of them no matter
what kind of the danger situation is coming towards her. In the Fool Moon , Dresden s friend Murphy
no longer trust him. It is so because Dresden is not giving the proper information about the things that
he knows. Similarly, he is also not telling about the supernatural things that is happening around along
with mysterious death of the people. So, Murphy arrests Dresden saying that he is responsible for Kim
s death, which shows that Murphy has no more faith in

Thanksgiving is an American holiday that celebrate the Pilgrim s successful harvest. The Pilgrims
were thankful that they had survived in the New World. At the first Thanksgiving feast, people ate
lobster, seal, swan, and deer meat. In modern times, we serve turkey dinners, have family gatherings,
and watch football games. Many also donate food to neighbors who don t have enough two eat.
Thanksgiving is an American which is widely celebrated.
The holiday Thanksgiving has a long history to where it got today. The Pilgrims left England in
September 1620 on a ship called the Mayflower. They arrived on Massachusetts Bay to established
their village at Plymouth. Mayflower s passengers suffered a lot during the winter only half lived to
see America. The Pilgrims settle ashore and was greeted by the Native American in english. Several
days later, he brought Squanto who Squanto taught the Pilgrims many survival skills that help them
thrive in such a difficult area to adapt to. Squanto also help formed an alliance with the neighboring

Controversy Regarding Cannabis-Related Legislations in Canada
There is presently much controversy regarding Cannabis related legislations in Canada, as while there
is a great deal of individuals supporting conditions in the present, there are also numerous people who
are against contemporary laws. It is presently illegal to grow cannabis plants in Canada, but the
authorities allow cannabis to be consumed for medical purposes. Many people in Canada believe that
cannabis should be legalized in the country, with some of the most recent polls pointing toward the
belief that the majority of individuals in the country consider that the substance should not be illegal.
Although it would be difficult to assess the effects that legalizing cannabis would have, it is only safe
to assume that the government should express more tolerance concerning the substance, considering
that more than half of Canada s population has expressed its support in regard to the drug.
Individuals who consume cannabis for recreational purposes are certain that the fact that this
substance is included in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act as illegal is proof that the authorities
directly discriminate them on account of their substance orientation.
Canada has a history in debating the use of cannabis and the circumstances when it can be beneficial
for the consumer and for society as a whole. The Canadian federal government encourages protection
for ill Canadians with degenerative health diseases (Jacob 2009, 210). The federal government
considers that the

Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees communicate through sounds, and gestures. These chimpanzees in the wild have
systems that variates and create local dialects. Chimpanzees are our closest ancestors since we share
about 99 percent of our genetic material with them. Chimpanzees have been trialed and it looks like
they are capable to have language similar to human beings. Moreover, research suggest that
chimpanzees in fact do communicate using human language such as American Sign Language (ASL).
ASL is a phonological system in which it organize the physical realization of speech (7). This great
discovery was noted by Allen and Beatrix when they explored Washoe, an infant common chimpanzee

One of the ways how hedgehogs are alive is that they have a cellular structure and function, they reproduce, they use metabolism, they use homeostasis, they have a long line of heredity, they have evolved, and they use interdependence. Hedgehogs are mammals so they reproduce sexually and it usually takes 35 58 days for their baby to be born. typically the male travels much more farther to find a mate than the female. Within the last two months, his breathing has become more difficult, and there has been a noticeable difference in his voice. Prior to the fifteen months, he presented little to no symptoms. Dropped foot, as demonstrated in the above case study, can also develop from muscle weakness and can cause the individual to drag his or her foot. Limb onset ALS is more typical than all other types, occurring in about 75% of diagnosed individuals. The other 25% may present symptoms described as bulbar onset ALS. These patients may first notice difficulty with proper speech and swallowing. Patients will often lose their voice and have difficulty forming words, caused by a loss of tongue mobility. In rare cases, patients might demonstrate respiratory onset ALS where the intercostal muscles are compromised first. Regardless of which occur first, affected individuals will generally experience most of the symptoms as the disease progresses. Specifically, symptoms that include difficulty swallowing, moving, forming words, tight muscles, spasticity, and/or exaggerated reflexes occur when the upper motor neurons have been damaged. When lower motor neurons are damaged, symptoms such as muscle weakness, atrophy, cramping, and twitching will occur. In some cases, a few of the muscle neurons that ... Decreasing Faculty Resistance to General Education Assessment The assessment of general education courses within the realm of higher education has been a topic of concern and some contention as external regulatory bodies, accrediting agencies, and donors have become increasingly interested in seeing quantifiable results from these courses. While universities strive to maintain effective assessment of their programs, one area that consistently falls by the wayside is the assessment of general education courses. These courses have been difficult for many universities to effectively assess due to a multitude of reasons, ranging from the large number of general education courses offered, to a lack of support and cohesion on the part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The anticipated outcome of the study will be a decrease in faculty resistance to assessment efforts in general education courses. Friedman Stone (2002) highlight an issue on this topic: that colleges and departments are receiving pressure, both externally, from regulatory and accrediting bodies, and internally, from board members and upper administration, to expand upon general education assessment efforts (Friedman Stone, 2002). This pressure is falling on the faculty who teach these courses. The faculty, in turn, are resistant to administrative efforts to dictate what, if any, assessments are being given in their classes. Although Friedman Stone address this resistance, more research must be done on how to effectively overcome it. In another article, Banta et Al. (1993), stated that, there is tension between the two principle purposes of assessment: demonstrating accountability and improving curricula, instruction, and student services. Governing and accrediting bodies are more concerned with demonstrating accountability since the stipulations of their investment in a university are measured through quantifiable program benchmarks. However, the teaching faculty value assessment in terms of curriculum improvement and as a way to refine instructional methodology. Banta et Al s quote highlights this disconnect. In order to understand why murders occur one must understand the motivations present and be able to classify them as instrumental or expressive. When applying criminological theories one must consider all aspects of the case at hand. No perfect theory exists to explain every homicide. Furthermore, both theories are social process theories and involving the learning process along with the effect of external influences on individuals behavior (Wood Alleyne, 2010). Neutralization theory is actually an extension of differential association theory. Both theories deal with attitudes and values that influence perceptions, which drives one to criminal acts such as homicide in the case of Mr. Ortiz. The process of learning techniques is another similarity among these theories. Indeed both theories are used to learn how and when to commit homicide. Personal group influences, whether criminal or not, also play a role in each theory. Personal group influences can include close family members, relatives, friends or peers. Inappropriate socialization is also a contributor to non conventional acts. Both theories explain the reasons that led to the murders of rival street gang members and how they were learned. Quality of Judicial Performance The quality of judicial performance Quality of judicial performance The performance of judges can be measured, generally speaking, by the ability of the judges. There are some methods used to measure the performances of judges for this purpose. These include a review of the past performance of the judges. Here, the judges are gauged according to citations to prior judgments, affirmation of the judges by higher courts and the ability to produce and put pressure. The judges may also be measured by their native talents and experiences whereby issues of the number of years a particular judge has been working at the lower courts and the quality of the law school they might have attended. Another measure for the quality of judges is depreciating ability; some judges performance may decline due to cognitive impairments, while others may gain experience over time. These measures are geared towards ensuring that a high quality of judicial performance is guaranteed and maintained (Choi et al, 2011). Lynching is an extrajudicial practice carried out as an informal execution of an alleged criminal. In the 1900s, lynch mobs were a frequent way to highlight the economic and political differences as the dominant group would suppress their competition in this way, especially in the south. It was reported that African American men were lynched to death in Mississippi on a weekly basis. Since 1874, the Jim Crow laws had been established and stayed in effect until 1975. This legalizes the separation of races in the south of America and condemned coloured Americans to a second class citizenship (Tischauser, 2012). Many of the illnesses that plagued the human race could be found at the microscopic level. The microscope, one of the greatest human inventions, has helped find treatments for many of these illnesses, solve crimes, and see into the cells that make humans what they are. To understand the greatness of the microscope, the history of the microscope should be made known. The origins of the microscope can be traced back to the Roman invention of glass in the first century A.D. When the Romans experimented with different shapes of glass, they discovered that when the middle of the glass was thicker than the edges, things that were seen through the glass appeared larger. This discovery evolved into the first eye glass, which was made in the thirteenth century. The first true microscope was first invented in 1590 by the Dutch glasses makers Zacharias Janssen and his father, Hans. The first person to build and actually use the microscope scientifically was Anton van Leeuwenhoek in the seventeenth century. He achieved much greater magnification than other scientists had, and because of this, he was able to be the first to see miniscule creatures such as bacteria and microorganisms living in a drop of water. • 26. Capitalism Authoritarianism And Capitalism ESSAY ON ANARCHISM AND CAPITALISM BY TARIF AURANGZEB There have been many political and economic ideologies that have adorned or stained this planet such as fascism, anarchism, monarchism, collectivism, communism, capitalism, syndicalism, individualism, socialism, authoritarianism and many hybrid ideologies. The ones we will be talking about in this essay are capitalism and anarchism. Both have existed and spread the extent of its influence, with the former rapidly gaining traction during the industrial revolution and becoming the ideology that rules nearly all the political and economic spheres of life on this planet as of modern times. They are both freshly adopted ideologies that have come into the limelight just a couple hundred years ago. The fact of the matter is that anarchism is less defective of an ideology and more concerned for the welfare of the people. Capitalism has many defects and limitations to it that are ever so apparent in today s society. One among them is the income disparities, poverty and lack of workers innovation that ensue as a result of its competitive nature. This ideology is composed of three main components: wage labour, the private ownership of the means of production and production for exchange and profit. It is based on the exploitation of the working class as profits are made by overworking and underpaying workers. Thus producing surplus value. Which means workers are getting less than they worked for. Not only that, only 13 percent of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Redemption In Les Miserables The Change From Past To Present True redemption is when guilt leads to good (Khaled Hosseini). Not one person on earth is completely free from wrongs. Humans have lapses in judgement that can hurt them and others. Some people believe you can be redeemed and can put your wrongs behind you, these people are kind and generous. Others believe you have one chance to get it right, these people are often angry and judgmental. There are also those who believe that someone can t be redeemed, but begin to realize that people can change. By looking at the Bishop, Javert, and Jean Valjean and their actions it becomes clear that Les Miserables is a book about redemption coming to those who did wrongs in their past and the behaviors of those who believe and don t believe. The Bishop was only in Les Miserables for a short time but the effect he had on Jean Valjean carried throughout the entire book. The Bishop believes that people can make lousy decisions but still be redeemed of them. When Jean Valjean stole the silver the Bishop didn t condemn him, he gave him the chance to change the path he was going down, . . . God has brought you out of darkness. I have bought your soul for God (Movie). The Bishop s feelings on redemption made him a kind generous man, giving Jean Valjean a chance at a new life. Javert is a foil of the Bishop, he believes people can t be redeemed of their wrongs and is severe as a result. Throughout much of the book the police inspector, Javert, ... What is the occupancy classification for this application? We have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard as well as the 2016 edition. The base requirement is Section 8.6.6.1 that indicates that the clearance between the deflector and the top of storage shall be 18 in. or greater. There are times where that is impractical where additional sprinklers have to be provided. This would require sprinklers to be placed on the four corners of the vehicle. Annex material A.8.5.6.1 addresses this clearance issue that states, The 18 in. clearance does not apply to vehicles in concrete parking structures. Since that is located in Section 8.5 General, this applies to all sprinkler types. Parking garages with low height ceilings and piping runs with dry pipe systems create clearance issues for the sprinklers even without car stackers. This usually involves higher vehicles such as large SUVs and vans. Even if the vehicle locations are initially specified and sprinklers are placed accordingly, the striped parking locations can be moved at a later date and impacting the sprinkler clearances. This application has robust concrete construction and considered fire resistive. Thus, damage to the structure is not likely with sprinkler protection. The beams in this structure also create bays that will aid in activation of the sprinklers and contain the heat plume. The sprinkler system should be able to cool upper layer gas temperatures, prevent flashover, and control the fire. Sprinkler systems are designed to control the fire and allow time for the responding fire service to finish the job. Since this application has cars stacked that are not specifically addressed by the standard in effect, this is worth discussing with the AHJ.
