2. Canadian Economic Development
Laying the golden egg: the coalition government s role in postwar Northern development, by John
R Wedley, BC studies, number 88, Winter 1990 91
In the decades after the Second World War, northern British Columbia s economy exploded with
new sawmills, pulp and paper plants, mines, natural gas and petroleum operations and hydroelectric
projects, made possible by technological advances and high resource prices. But the developments
were also part of a carefully planned and government led initiative encouraged by government
promotions and incentives.
It was the government that provided the infrastructure for the growth, in the form of railways,
highways and hydroelectric resources. The figure most commonly associated with this incredible

Thompson Highway from Kamloops to TГЄte Jaune Cache, the Northern Trans Provincial
Highway, from Jasper, Alberta, to Prince Rupert, on the Pacific coast, and a link between Atlin, in
the province s most northwest, with the Alaska Highway.
The Pacific Great Eastern Railway began in 1912 but went bankrupt after building just 163 miles
of track. The province absorbed the bankrupt railway and continued it as far as Quesnel by 1921.
(Tugs and barges carried cargo from Squamish south to North Vancouver because there was no
road between Squamish and the Lower Mainland.) But without cooperation from existing national
railways or the federal government, the province was not willing to go it alone to extend the
railroad all the way to Prince

4. Collaborative Group Experience
Introduction Groups and teamwork are an essential aspect of everyday life. It is suggested that
groups have the potential to outperform individuals (Mottola Utkus, 2009). There are several facets
that impact teamwork, including communication, and cooperation. Conflicts and challenges are
also important aspects that can occur in teamwork. It is imperative to understand effective models,
and actions that can be taken to establish successful work. Experiential learning will be used to
analyze a groupexperience that the author found to be meaningful. Additionally, team dynamic
concepts and theories will aid in analyzing the experience.

The various challenges and conflicts impacted all the members of the group, and resulted in a
subpar presentation. As the presentation was a significant portion of our final grade, it was
imperative for the author as well as several other members to take initiative and salvage the
presentation before it was a complete disaster. The author behaved in this manner to ensure the
requirements of the assignment were met, and the presentation was delivered in order to avoid
failure for the assignment. The other members of the group that also took initiative to complete the
assignment were motivated to achieve these goals as well. The individuals that lacked participation
were fueled by conflict and determined to create a negative experience because of refusal for
agreement. The individuals removed themselves from the group and choose to work on aspects of
the presentation alone. This impacted the group negatively because there was lack of
communication, and opinions from everyone involved. Joan Bunashe and Lindsay Broder suggest
that conflict isolates individuals and can have an impact on creativity and productivity (Bunashe
Broder, 2015). The actions of the individuals who refused to participate in the group obstructed the
presentation flow, and resulted in a negative experience for

5. Alcoholism in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire
Alcoholism s in A Streetcar Named Desire There is a great deal of alcoholism in the play.
Blanche DuBois drinks often and drinks in excess. Alcohol abuse further distinguishes Blanche s
character because in the 1940s, it was atypical for women to drink so much, and even more rare
for women to be so publically alcoholic as Blanche. Those behaviors were stereotypically reserved
for women. Blanche is very much aware of her problems and her social isolation. She uses her
alcoholismas a way to escape from facing herself directly as well as to escape from other aspects of
her reality that she perceives too difficult to bear or change.
One of the memorable lines from the play of Blanche s is: Whoever you are, I ve always
depended on the kindness of strangers. Blanche could be using the world kindness in an ironic
way; from the kind of treatment Blanche desires and receives, it is likely that she has been
treated the same and worse from other men (and women). Another take on the word kindness in
that famous line is that perhaps she must really depend on strangers to be kind because her
friends and family do not show her kindness. Blanche drinks because of how pessimistically she
perceives herself and perceives her life. She fears and wishes to forget her past, so she drinks in the
present, but drinks to the point where she extinguishes any chance for her future.

Regarding Indefinite Administrative Detention
Blind patriotism and resounding public support of President Bush s War on terrorism after the
events of September 11 th have allowed considerable leeway to be taken by the Federal Government
in terms of indefinite detention of non U.S. citizens in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. But all the flag
waving seems to have helped a lot of people dismiss the idea that, even though the detainees taken
from Afghanistan in the past year are not U.S. citizens, they remain innocent until proven guilty
according to American legal principles.

Government to depriv[e] any person ... of ... liberty...without due process of law. (Zadvydas,
III(A)) is absolutely crucial to maintaining a fair, evenhanded administration of justice by the U.S.
courts system. The U.S. Supreme Court took this into consideration when deciding Zadvydas v.
Davis (2001), in which plaintiff argued that a law regulating the lengthy detention process applied
to deportable aliens whose deportation/reception arrangements were still pending violated his
right to Due Process. This will be discussed in depth later. But the case was not based on
constitutional issues, rather it focused on statutory laws that define the complex procedures for
holding and deporting aliens. Before an analysis of the legal reasoning used to decide Zadvydas
can be appropriately understood, one must receive a brief overview of exactly how and why this
case applies to Attorney General John Ashcroft s ability to indefinitely detain suspected terrorists at
Guantanamo Bay.
The complication here is that the main focus of this case is not on suspected terrorists, prisoners of
war, or any issue of national security regarding deportation of enemies of the state. The primary
legal question in Zadvydas is whether 8 U.S.C. В§1231(a)(6), a provision permitting the United

9. Competitive Authoritarianism And Political Authoritarianism
1.competitive authoritarianism competitive authoritarianism
Levitsky and Way describe, a competitive authoritarianism is, in essence, a democracy but it lacks
proportional representation and most of the elections and government institutions are predisposed
to only the elites. Juan Linz describes this as a diminished form of authoritarianism. In competitive
authoritarianism regimes, elections are normally rigged, power figures regularly misuse state
resources while oppressed are denied simple liberties. Anyone who is opposed is often killed or
jailed. Competitive Authoritarianism is not an authoritarian and is not quite a democracy, but it has
democratic institutions in place and incumbents cannot reduce them.

Political reform is often resulting in increased demands of oppressed and weaken state. New
democracies tend to have security problems and questions of the democratic governance. The state
must instill stability and social control; thus a weak state will fail. Democracy, however, can
achieve peace by allocating power through elections, manage diversity without violence, and create
political positions. State and nation building, integration, and a development of a unified ideology
can be a strategy to promote democratic consolidation.
5.resource curse and the transition to democracy
Countries that do not promote accountability and state competence to benefit from resource booms
are at risk of the resource curse. The resource curse is when resource rich countries benefit from its
wealthy natural resources (i.e. oil) and do not help with its people welfare. Its government officials
are less likely to meet the demands of its people because they are too busy pocketing the cash.
These countries are more deceptable to authoritarianism, low levels of economic growth and
stability. Wealthy natural resources can promote power conflicts and corrupt governments.
Countries that have a resource curse are more likely to transition to democracy when its large
revenue comes from citizens taxes.

Video Games
Video games first started being introduced into the world around the 1970 s and since then have
evolved and made an impact on the real life and online world. Throughout the years of video games
making more and more of an impact in the entertainment industry, the question to weather they are a
form of media still remains. Media is defined as the main means of mass communication (television,
radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. And depending where you re coming from media can
include the video gaming industry, film industry, tv industry and of course the news and marketing
industries.

As video games is such a big medium, they are able to convey messages to the players in a more
low key way, gender representations and stereotyping are both big things that the video gaming
industry can effectively play a big part in. Stereotyping refers to one group s generalised and
widely accepted perception about the personal attributes of members of another group (Ashmore
Boca, 1981; Dates Barlow, 1990). Within most traditional media, gender and racial stereotypes
are the most pervasive two. Increased distorted representation of women and minorities can have
a negative effect on the way that the viewer sees that particular group. The way that video games
are able to influence large masses is another reason to why it is able to be classified as a
legitimate form of media. The definition of media as stated above being, the main means of mass
communication (television, radio, and newspapers) regarded collectively. . Female characters have
changed and evolved throughout the time of video games, the first ever playable female character
in a mainstream game was created in 1986 and then another well known female character was
created by 1996, and that one being the protagonist of Tomb Raider, Lara Croft. By 2014 it is now
able to be chosen by the player in a collective of certain games to weather they play as male or
female. It isn t uncommon to see a female characters in a video game to be over sexualised, much
like mass media in todays age. Female characters are also commonly portrayed as a damsel in
distress , and the male protagonist is usually the one to save her. Mass medias such as the news
and newspapers have this in common with video games, making it out that females usually need
some sort of male hero in their lives. There is a big push for more women to be involved in the

11. The World And Expanse Of Time
Throughout the semester, evaluating different eras and event across the world and expanse of
time, we have studied how individual players and their actions contribute to our understanding of
history itself. Many of our readings were historical accounts centralized on the lives of single
players, and these players roles in greater historical events.
The outbreak and entirety of WWI, serves as an example of how many individual players, and
their actions, contributed to the overall outcome of an all out war. In class, we discussed how
there were a number of major players whom helped contribute to the outbreak and subsequent
events of WW1. One of the key actors we examined, was the Emperor to Russia at the time,
Nicholas II, and the qualities attributed to him as an individual. These are the qualities which may
have not only led to Russia s involvement in WWI, but also can be attributed to Russia s loss in
Russo Japanese War, further destabilization of Russia s central government under Nicholas II, and
ultimately the collapse of the Russian Monarchy, all culminating in the 1917 Russian Revolution.
Nicholas II was the first born child of Emperor Alexander III of Russia, and being so, his upbringing
was a rather quite and isolated, though he maintained a close relationship with both his father and
mother. In 1881, Alexander II, Nicholas grandfather (and Emperor at the time) was assassinated by
revolutionaries, quickly making Nicholas heir apparent at the age of thirteen. Though

Kenneth Bancroft Clark was born July 24, 1914 in the Panama Canal Zone to parents of Jamaican

Howard University and then Columbia University where he would become the first black man to

with Gunnar Myrdal, a Swedish economist known for both his study of race relations and his
contributions to desegregation in the United States (Larson, 2014). Both Clarks are tied to the
Civil Rights Movement and their work is aligned with the social reconstructionist curriculum
ideology of the time period. Both Clarks define the ideal of what W.E.B. Du Bois (1903) hoped to
achieve with his Talented Tenth in that both pursued the highest levels of education and then
sought to use that education as a means of improving the lives of black people, particularly black

After the war however a kind of two faced attitude is quickly adopted by the United States as the

War itself and seen as a main cause for a very deep rooted hate towards communism that formed
a bitter taste in the mouths of the American people. In 1950 the emergence of the Second Red

America will soon be lost to communism if the people do not stand up to combat it. He revealed

15. The Dangerous Effects of Chemical Warfare in World War One
Upon the battlefield of World War One, soldiers huddle in trenches, faces veiled behind gas
masks. These bulky facial coverings were designed to protect the soldiers from deadly gases used
by the enemy. The use of chemical agents in World War One led to the need for the production of
better protection from the deadly effects of the agents. Chlorinegas could be dropped from
cylinders above the victims, its high density causing it to flow downwards onto its unsuspecting
foe (Fire 121). Also, the British Authorities struggled to decide whether or not to approve the use
of gas for offensive use, and whether a large scale chemical war was something to be avoided at
all costs (Girard 107). The gas masks worn by soldiers increased their discomfort and made it
hard to move around, instilling a sense of panic in them when a gas raid was underway (Fire
121). The French were the first to fire asphyxiating gas shells from field guns and pioneered the
use of gas as a neutralization weapon (Krause 553). The psychological damage of gas attacks on
soldiers was mainly because of the horror of seeing their unprepared comrades suffocating and
screaming in agony from burns inflicted by mustard gas (Fitzgerald 611). Animals were used in
the World War, horses for transport, pigeons for contact, and dogs for protection and defense
(Walk). Obviously, there would have to be modified gas masks for the animals on the battle field

Ramblings of the Ill informed
In Godless: The Church of Liberalism, published by Three Rivers Press in 2007, author Ann
Coulter argues that liberalism has become a religion despite liberals rejecting god and religion. On
the first page Coulter writes, Of course liberalism is a religion. It has its own cosmology, its own
miracles . . . its own churches, its own high priests, its own saints, its own total worldview, and its
own explanation of the existence of the universe. In other words, liberalism contains all the
attributes of what is generally known as a religion. Coulter attempts to draw many parallels
between liberals and religious people in the beginning of the book. Coulter then gets into the
ideologies that the liberal religion possesses in the chapters to follow. This includes Coulter s
assertion that liberals love violent criminals, but hate fetuses because all liberals oppose the death
penalty and support abortions. Coulter s overgeneralizations continue when she rants and yells
about the liberal media s adoration for educators and how teachers are the saints for leftists and
schools are like churches of socialism. Then Coulter states that educators are indoctrinating students
with false beliefs in evolution and turning children away from Christianity. Finally, Coulter attempts
to disprove evolution a very small amount understanding of what evolution really is. In Godless:

19. Prison Overcrowding And The United States
Nelson Mandela once said, It is said that no one truly knows a nation until one has been inside its
jails. A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones. The
prisons in the United States have been overcrowded for many years and require a change in order
to fix this. Some of the main causes for prisonovercrowding that will be covered in this paper are
mass incarceration, long sentencing, recidivism, and prisoners of drug crimes. Overcrowding of
prisons in the United States is a major issue that affects not only the prisoners themselves, but
taxpayers and politicians. Although there are many different solutions to prison overcrowding
such as building more prisons, alternative and shorter sentences, etc., the issue is still prevalent.
Some feel the best way to deal with overcrowding is to build more prisons to accommodate the
large influx of prisoners. Others feel the best mode of action to solve this problem is through
shorter, and alternative sentencing, which frees up space for serious offenders of the law. This
paper argues that shorter, and alternative prison sentences are the most effective way to reduce the
prison population in the United States. Prisons and their overcrowding is a controversial topic not
to be taken lightly. There are an incredible number of people in American prisons today. For
example, according to Peter Katel, there are more people in prison right now in the United States
than any other country. The

20. On Laziness By Christopher Morley Summary
Generally, lazy people are not admired. Society, as a whole, prefers those who are willing and
able to actively and positively contribute to its progress. Effort is praised while indifference can
typically be seen as shameful. Christopher Morley understands this. In his short essay, On
Laziness, he indirectly confronts the slothful in an effort to make them see the error of their ways.
Morley deals with the topic of laziness in a overly sarcastic and satirical tone to stress the
absurdity of the trait. Early in his essay, Morley utilizes ironythat made it evident that his essay on
the supposed benefits of laziness is meant to be treated as a satire. He in no way is actually
believing what he is explicitly stating. The opening statement can only reasonably be viewed as
an intentional joke. Morley claims that he intends to write an essay on Laziness but [is] too
indolent to [even] do so. Yet, the paper does not end here; he continues on and completes an entire
academic essay, blatantly contradicting his first sentence in it. If Morley stays true to his words
and fully believes in the value of idleness, no work would have been made to defend it. He makes
the sarcasmeven more obvious through his deliberate choice of words. While criticizing
activeness and energy, Morley spoke of having a determined effort to be more languid and
demure. It is paradoxical to try to be lazy. Putting in effort and making an attempt to be so goes
against its basic definition. Morley provides examples of where laziness was shown to be
virtuous. However, he purposely makes them flawed and highly debatable, forcing the slothful
to consider if there is in actuality a strong case for their behavior. Morley initially calls upon
recent history for proof. He reminds the audience of the Great War the essay being written in
1920 shortly after it ended and declares that the world would have been spared a great deal... if
the Germans had been as lazy, as indifferent, and as righteously laissez fairish as their
neighbours... This is a bold claim. War is an atrocious ordeal whose causes are complex and cannot
solely be blamed on one group of people. Many including the toughest advocate for indolence will

22. Bargo s Identification Evidence Analysis
The first grounds for an appeal, in regards to Arika s testimony, is that identification evidence of
Bargo at [20] was wrongly admitted. Except as otherwise provided in the Evidence Act 1995
(NSW) (EA), in order for evidence to be admissible, evidence must be relevant. Evidence will be
considered relevant in a proceeding, if that evidence when accepted, could rationally affect the
assessment of the probability of the existence of a fact in issue in the proceeding. The facts in
issues are the elements of the crime with which the defendant is being charged. Identification
evidence from a witness is made up of the witness asserting that the accused is the person the
witness heard, saw, or smelt perpetrating the crime. In the present case, Arika s testimony would be
classified as identification evidence, as she asserted that Bargo was the person who she had seen
rape her.
However, if identification evidence has been admitted, the trial judge is required to give an
identification warning to the jury, that there is a special need for caution before accepting
identification evidence; and of the reasons for that need for caution. Section 114 also sets out a
general rule, that visual identification evidence adduced by the prosecution is inadmissible, unless

23. Religion In Hamlet Research Paper
Interaction of Mythology, Religion, and the Supernatural Hamlet is considered the most popular
and one of the most performed plays written by William Shakespeare that follows many of the
traditional styles, thus evident in his writings. It describes the tragedy of Prince Hamlet, the
protagonist, whose father is murdered by his uncle, Claudius, who then marries his mother,
Gertrude. This not only ends up in the tragic loss of his father but also results in the prevention of
his rise to the throne. On a dark wintry night, the ghostof King Hamletappears and reveals to Prince
Hamletthat Claudius is his murderer and encourages him to seek revenge on the man who killed
him to take the crown and then married his widow (Al Abdullah and Ramadan, 912). The leading
conflict of this story is the confrontation between old Hamlet and King Claudius as well as the
tragic dilemma that young Hamlet face. In telling the conflict of Hamlet, Shakespeare... Show more

Religion s critical role as a motivating factor for the characters can be evidenced by the fact that
it is referred to in multiple instances in the play. When Horatio sees the Ghost, and says, Before
my God, I might not this believe/ Without the sensible and true avouch/Of my own eyes (A 1, S
1, L 67 69). This promotes a notion that those who believe in God will not believe in ghosts. On
another occasion, Hamlet utters the most famous one from a soliloquy, To be, or not to be, that is
the question (Act 3 Scene 1 line 65). Throughout the play, Hamlet remains depressed and harbors
the thoughts of committing suicide. However, it is the Catholic beliefs that prevent him from
practicing it. This faith s belief that suicide is a sin deters him from acting out his desire, which is
a major component that determines the story s progress. The story will have turned out differently

In New Jersey Tesla went about improving Edison s line of dynamos while working in Edison s
lab. It was here that his variation of opinion with Edison over direct current versus alternating
current began. This disagreement soon became the war of the currents as Edison fought a losing
battle to protect his investment in direct current equipment and facilities. Tesla began pointing
out the worthlessness of Edison s direct current electrical powerhouses that have been building
up and down the Atlantic seaboard. The secret, he felt, lay in the use of alternating current,
because to him all energies were cyclic. Edison s lamps were weak and worthless when supplied
by direct current. This system had a severe disadvantage in that it could not be transported more
than two miles due to its incapability to step up to high voltage levels necessary for long distance
transmission. Because of this a direct current power station was required every two miles. Direct
current flows continuously in one direction; alternating current changes direction fifty or sixty
times per second and can be stepped up to vary high voltage levels, minimizing power loss across
great distances. Nikola Tesladeveloped polyphase alternating current system of generators, motors
and transformers. He held forty basic U.S. patents on the system, which George Westinghouse
bought, wanting to supply America with the Tesla system. Edison did not want to lose his direct

27. Types Of Alternate Dispute Resolutions
A traditional judicial process such as litigation is a settlement of an agreement between the parties
involved in a dispute that is heard and decided by the judge and a jury in court. Due to the rising
costs of litigation and time delays, businesspersons are turning to alternate dispute resolutions as a
way to come to an agreement. Many states and corporations have been experimenting with ADR
programs and have found it to be a great alternate. Three types of alternate dispute resolutions are
negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. Roger LeRoy Miller, author of Business Law Today stated
that, Today, more than 90 percent of cases are settled before trial through some form of ADR (84).
Each process is used differently amongst parties and each has its own benefits. Alternate dispute
resolutions tend to have lower costs and the process is much shorter. The use of alternate dispute
resolutions is growing at a fast rate because many businesses and corporations find it to be an easier
way to come to a settlement. Although alternate dispute resolutions have been recognized for their
advantages its still important not to overlook the disadvantages of each.
Generally, the simplest form of alternate dispute resolution is negotiation. Negotiation allows the
parties to meet informally with or without their attorney s present to settle their dispute. This
process does not require a neutral third party to be at the meeting because the parties reach a
resolution on their own terms.

ARGUMENT AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION FOR HUMANITARIAN RELIEF An
understanding of where the Syrian healthcare system stood before the civil war, the toll of the
fighting and intentional targeting of medical personnel/infrastructure, ongoing humanitarian efforts,
and America s actions to date enable an informed evaluation of whether or not to use American
militaryforces in a humanitarian assistance role in Syria. This context allows for an examination of
the limitations of humanitarian aid, the advantages/disadvantages of plausible courses of action
involving the military and the threat of mission creep. Before evaluating the merits of available
courses of action the military can take to address Syria s medical crisis, it is important to identify
and understand the limitations of humanitarian assistance in general. Taylor Seybolt, Associate
Professor in International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh an expert on military and
humanitarian intervention, cites the following inherent limitations of humanitarian intervention: it
does not provide a lasting solution to conflict; it has the potential to prolong wars; it can foster
economic dependence; and it inhibits strong state development.19 When these limitations are
considered in regard to Syria, military intervention for the sole purpose of providing medical
humanitarian support does not make sense. Providing medical aid in isolation to the Syrian people

What does it mean to have a mental illness? Not many people think about this question because we

33. Credit Card Debt in America

Analytical Essay
Debt
Credit card debt is one of this nation s leading internal problems, and it has been for around the
last 3 4 decades. When credit was first introduced, and up until around the late 1970 s up to today,
the standards for getting a credit card were very high; so not everybody could get one. The bar got
lowered and lowered to where, eventually, an 18 year old college student with almost no income
and nothing to base a credit score on previously could obtain a credit card (much like myself). The
national credit card debt for families residing in the United States alone is in the trillions (Maxed

These rates do not just do this on their own. They are caused by a factor called universal default.
(Jaffe) The universal default, written in all of the small print that comes with every newly issued
credit card, states that if one is more than 30 days late on a credit card payment, the rate of interest
on these debts will increase dramatically (Jaffe). Ironically, the universal default is not
universally known and understood. This all really started in 1978, when the Supreme Court
decided to leave the interest rates up to State Government (McGeehan). This caused many banks
to move their credit card operation stations to states that had removed caps on interest rates,
such as South Dakota and Delaware (McGeehan). What has been happening lately, which is not
quite yet illegal, is that credit card companies will apply this universal default rule to not only
the 30 day late payment period, but will apply it to missing mortgage payments, utility or car
payments, carrying too much debt in the first place, using over half of your credit limit for most
of your credit cards, and many more things (Jaffe). This is causing people left and right to double
their debt with interest rates. For every $1 in principle spent by the average American, they are
paying around $2 3 dollars in interest (Maxed Out). However, the aggressive tactics used by these
lenders (in raising interest rates and charging unnecessary fees) have

Sensory experience is the physical process during which our sensory organs respond to external

emotions and perceptual experiences. I will start by evaluating an example of a timeless pre

Minor breaches in boundary such as briefly touching the clients hands to show support when they
are very emotional is considered insignificant and can sometimes be beneficial to client, however,
major breaches such as regularly answering client s call outside of workplace is more severe, and
can be harmful to client s treatment (Williams and Swartz, 1998). Britzman and Pitt (1996)
described transferenceas impression of unresolved past conflict with others that is projected into the
new interaction and relationship. Usher (2013) suggested that transference occurs when the client
makes fabricated connection to the therapist. Freud proposed that transference occurs
unconsciously in two ways: Template is when the client attempts to categorises all their later
relationship based on the earlier relationship; and repetition compulsion is when the client replays
traumatic past relationship or situation (Kahn, 2003). For example, if a client has a critical mother,
then, they will categorise all women of certain age and characteristics to that template. And client
sees the therapist as the critical mother and repetition causes them to act in certain ways to get the
reaction they want from the therapist. Freud found that transference occurs everywhere, and it is
not isolated to just therapy setting.
Freud found that all types of transference was indispensable for the therapist in understanding their

1.Describe the pathophysiological changes that occur in acute renal failure. Acute renal failure
condition is diagnosed and retitled as acute kidney injury. The purpose of the change of terminology
was to encompass the full spectrum of the clinical manifestations associated with the syndrome.
This includes a range from a small decline in kidneyfunction to a severe impairment. Furthermore,
the acute condition is characterized by a rapid loss of kidney function. In addition, associated
manifestation(s) may be displayed as a rise in serum creatinine or a reduction in urine output. As a
result of increase of serum creatinine or decline in urine output may developed and aggress to the
clinical manifestation azotemia. However, acute kidney injury is complications are reversible.
Patients with life threatening conditions are more susceptible to developing this disorder. Acute
kidney injury is commonly developed after either chronic hypotension or hypovolemia or exposure
to a nephrotoxic agent. With increased levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN), creatinine, and
potassium with or without a reduction in urine output develops acute kidney injury over hours or

Why would John Brown be considered a revolutionary if he did so many bad things to try to end

an abolitionist was because when he was younger he witnessed a slave get harshly beaten and
John did not like it. Brown also did not like the idea of people owning slaves. John Brownthought

43. Analysis Of The Indian Camp By Ernest Hemingway
The Indian camp is considered as one of Hemingway s best short stories. For the most part, it
focuses on the relationship between father and son, and life experiences like: childbirth, loss of
innocence and suicide. Nick Adams, the son of the doctor, accompanies his father to the Indian
camp where a woman that was pregnant has complications giving birth. Dr. Adams ends up
performing a caesarian section, ultimately saving her and the baby s life, but then the woman s
husband commits suicide. This is Nick s first traumatic incident, and the first sight of personal
suffering. This is shown with his various questions he asked his father, like do ladies always have
such a hard time having babies? (3) and do many men kill themselves, Daddy? (3), the
repercussions of life seem as clear as day to Nick for the first time in his life.
The short story leaves us with a number of questions, such as why does the Indian husband kill
himself? What is Uncle George s role, and why does he disappear by the end of the story?
Although the story has a father son dynamic, thinking of these questions push the audience to read
beyond the fact that Nick s father saved the Indian woman, and pay attention to the more
traumatizing aspects. But Nick decides to reject empathy completely with him feeling he would
never die (Tyler 39). His rejection of having objectivity has Nick become like his father, and have
lack of humility towards the Indian woman. Indian camp was created with many aspects of

Government Parties and Catholics The government and the Catholic Church have not always had a
great correspondence. Out of the many parties that have been created for the government, through
time, the Democrats and the Republicans have taken precedence. The Democrats lean more to the
liberal side of things, while the Republicans lean more towards the conservative side. The
Democrat party is the oldest existing party, and called the party of the people. The Republican Party
came into the existence just before the Civil War, mostly because of their stance for the abolition of
slavery and their candidate s win, Abraham Lincoln. Both parties have their pros and cons, and both

Just prior to the Civil War, Marylandwas a southern slave state, and during the war, they became
part of the union but still kept slavery legal. The Pro southern sentiment led to the Baltimore riot of
1861, when Union soldiers marched through the city. After the riot Union troops occupied
Baltimore, and the whole state of Maryland came under direct federal administration until the end
of the war in 1865. This was a very vital move by the union because they did not want Washington,
D.C. to become completely surrounded by seceded Confederate territory. The case Ex parte
Merryman, written by the Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney, dealt with the habeas corpus
rights of Marylanders jailed by the Abraham Lincoln Administration and strongly reprimanded
Lincoln for his actions. Baltimore s overseas trade was principally with the Caribbean Islands and
South America, regions undergoing economic and social changes. At the same time, the American
frontier was pushing even farther west, threatening to leave Baltimore behind in its economic wake.

47. Figurative Language In The Open Window
In The Open Window by Hector Hugh Munro (also known as Saki), it is evident that Munro is
trying to get a significant message about truth and deception across to the audience. He tells a
story of a fifteen year old, Vera, who frightens a man, Mr. Nuttel, with a deliberate lie about her
uncle, Mr. Sappleton, and his two brothers in law drowning in a bog. The objective of this
narrative is to display dishonesty and what appears to be, opposed to reality, in underlying forms
of figurative language. The amount of figurative language in this story by Saki, is what makes it
as interesting as it is. Saki uses imagery to create an eerie feeling as the hunting party of Vera s
uncle returns through the open window. Saki gives off images like, deepening

48. Manganese And The Role Of The Human Body
MANGANESE AND THE ROLE IT PLAYS IN THE HUMAN BODY
Introduction
Manganese is one of sixteen known minerals that are essential within the human diet (wardlaw).
Minerals, such as manganese, are considered essential to the diet of humans if their absence results
in physiological or structural abnormalities and their presence prevents disease/illness (wardlaw).
The body utilizes manganese primarily in energy metabolism and within the antioxidant systems
(wardlaw). Manganese is found primarily in parts of the body such as the liver, pancreas, kidneys
and bones (Ehrlich).
The Chemical Properties of Manganese
Manganese (Mn) is a member of the periodic family of transition metals. Transition metals have one
or more stable ions that do not have complete d orbitals. Manganese has the atomic number twenty
five, ie. the nucleus contains twenty five protons. Taking into consideration the abundance of
various Manganese isotopes, the atomic weight was found to be 54.9380amu.
Dietary Reference Intake
Manganese does not have a Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) due to insufficient
information, however, the Food and Nutrition Board has set an Adequate Intake. The Adequate
Intake was formulated based on observed and experimentally determined approximations of
manganese by populations of good health status. In healthy adults, the AI for men is 2.3mg/day and
1.8mg/day for women (wardlow). The need for dietary manganese increases with pregnancy and
lactation (2.0 2.6 mg/day) (linus pauling).

50. Historical Significance Of Invictus
Invictus is a historical film that takes place during post apartheid South Africa. It was directed by
Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. The film is based on John Carlin
s book, Playing the enemy: Nelson Mandela And Game That Made A Nation. It is mainly about
Rugby World Cup in 1995 in South Africa. Even though apartheid is over, there is a racial tension
within the society. However, Nelson Mandela, along with the captain of rugby team, Francois
Pienaar, tried to solve this by hoping for successful game. Most of the scenes in the film creatively
demonstrate the historical significance in an era of post apartheid. According to the film, Nelson
Mandela became the first democratic president in South Africa in 1994. Apartheid laws were
dismantled, but both white and black people did not get along, which was concerning for Mandela.
Knowing the Rugby World Club was taken in South Africa, Mandela believed this sport event will
successfully unite people together even though the Springboks team symbolized white supremacy.
With this in mind, he met the Springboks captain, Francois Pienaar, and they both... Show more

of things. For instance, we respect our people despite the color skins in order to keep justice going
and be satisfied as humans. Also, the film is not only focusing on the sport but the relationship
between justices and discriminations within the society. In my opinion, Mandela was the hard
working, inspiring president in South Africa as his treatments toward his society were the examples
of the justice. Overall, this film is highly recommended for

Michelle Obama s 2016 Democratic National Convention Speech was beautifully presented; as
she spoke about the issues that faces Mrs. Clinton as well as herself, education, health and
welfare of this nation as a whole and why Hillary Clinton should be the next president of the
United States of America. As I listen to this speech I realized that Michelle Obama uses
rhetorical devices and appeals throughout this entire speech, and frankly since her purpose is to
persuade the people of the this country to vote for Hillary I think Michelle Obama took the right
approach. I get a strong sense of honesty from the first lady as she talks about why Ms. Clinton is
worthy enough to take on the mantle of leadership for our great nation. After listening to my
speech multiple times I notice how Michelle Obama also uses amplification, which is the
expansion of detail to clarify a point. Then as I continued to listen to the speech I also realized
how the first lady also uses anaphora, which is the repetition of one or more words at the head of
consecutive phrases, clauses, or sentences. Next I saw how the first lady utilizes both ethos and
pathos to help convince the citizens of America that Hillary Clinton deserves their vote. Through
the use of these rhetorical devices and appeals, Mrs. Obama s speech is made very strong and
convincing. From the very first time I heard this speech, I quickly noticed that Michelle approach
is using pathos as she tries to appeal to the emotion of the

52. The Supreme Courts Failures Culminated Together
For more than decades the court has continued to be pivotal in some of the biggest decisions for the
social identity of America. Specifically noting that for many years the majority of Americans
supported things that shaped the identity of American history (i.e. Slavery, Gay marriage, Sodomy,
etc.). Erwin Chemernisky continues to examine whether the courts roles in major social issues have
failed the American people or not. Erwin continues to explain that the supreme courts failures
culminated together, are not only a failure for race issues in America, but also a failure to interpret
the constitutioneffectively (21). These broad generalizations of the court flourish throughout his
book, however, it is final assessment of the court that leaves the most to be contended with.
Specifically noting that overall the court has done way more harm than good with regards to
addressing minority issues an in wake of the warren court has continued to make flawed decisions
in favor of the majority (53). This rhetoric must be addressed and analyzed by first looking to
professor Erwin s view of the courts take on minority, secondly analyzing his take on the court
before and after the warren era and lastly addressing his support and analysis of the purpose of
judicial review. Through this analysis it will become evident that Erwin Chemernisky has
misinterpreted the supreme courts position as a protector of minority rights instead of the upholder
and interpreter of the constitution and law.

independent wholesalers that provides extraordinary service to retailers. A joint venture is a major

Rosenberg (1979) viewed the self as made up of 2 elements, identity which represents cognitive
variables and self esteem which represents the affective variables.
Self esteem is operationally defined as:
Individual s feelings about his or her worth as a person, derived from the evaluation of various
salient dimensions of the self, namely psychological, social and physical or any other (Rifai, 1999).
Types of Self esteem
Korman (1986) suggests three types of self esteem. They are:
Chronic Self esteem
This type is defined as a relatively persistent personality trait or dispositional state that occurs
consistently across various situations. This self esteem is a result of past experiences and focuses
on one s competencies. An individual s confidence in his/her competencies directs the individual
into situations which require the use of those competencies.
Task Specific Self esteem
Task specific self esteem is one s self perception of his/her competence concerning a particular
task or job. This type of self esteem is the result of feedback, which comes directly from the
observation of he results of one s efforts.
Socially Influenced Self esteem
This type of self esteem is a function of the expectations of others. It results from communication
or feedback from reference group members or society as a whole, concerning the value of identity
and the individual s ability to meet the expectations of the reference groups and/or the society as a
whole.

Identity Crisis When one is going through life, they will try to find who they are. This can be

Sandra Cisneros shows this through Esperanza in her novella The House on Mango Street.
Esperanza through this aging and learning from her experiences. She very slowly, but very
normally learning who she is. Esperanza s negative view of herself slowly changes as she
begins to focus on her larger community and her place within it. Through this, Cisneros shows
that knowing and accepting where one comes from is an important part of growing up and
determining one s identity. Esperanza gets stunted from growing because of the people she s
around. Everybody that s around her are either much younger or much older. This is shown by
Esperanza using phrases like this kid in the vignette Our Good Day to describe people around
her (Cisneros 14). Having nothing but kids around someone is only going to stop them from
growing. Having someone that is ones age can help see what pace that person needs to be at in
order to keep up. This however, is not the case with Esperanza. The only people who she is able
