The Future Is Green Architecture
Architecture is vital function for all parts of society. Without architects people would have to rethink
how they enter buildings, fearing roofs caving in or structural beams giving out. The rigor of an
architect s training leaves these possibilities and worries an unlikely prospect, not considered in the
day to day in a person s events. Architects make both functional and beautiful structures that are
appealing to the eye, as well as useful to the world. The world wouldn t be able to live in functional
cities without the qualities of the architect s skills. The world would have to worry about a door frame
falling on their heads as they walk through the door for their daily workday, into the building that
houses their jobs, their pay based on the efficiencies of the buildings layouts. Hopefully a person
office is the one in the corner with the view, built to capture the sights outside the window and the
prestige of the position, all thought of and created by an architect. Architects have an extremely
specialized task to perform. They have to make sure that a building is stable in all conditions and
useful and also that it looks appealing to senses, capturing the light at dawn, changing with the light at
dusk. Architects do great things and create even greater things, often unnoticed, but worthy of
mention. Architects also have very fun creative jobs where they can go to a rigorous job and make
sure everything is going as planned and the building will meet the needs

Similarities Between The World s Wife And A Streetcar...
Compare and contrast the ways in which Duffy and Williams present relationships relationships
between men and women in The World s Wife and A Streetcar Named Desire The relationships that
occur between men and women in The World s Wife and a Streetcar Named Desire have both
similarities and differences in such that some of the women presented are subjected to subservient
positions and some overcome these demeaning roles whereas others continue to be shown as staying
in the portrayal of the inferior women. The men, on the other hand, are mostly presented as using their
sexuality to attract women, or use them. Many relationships are founded on sex and little romantic
feelings are involved. Relationships in both The World s Wife ... Show more content on

In Thetis , Duffy shows how women in relationships often change themselves in order to please
themselves or their man. Thetis changes to a suitable shape in which she is a size 8 . The word suitable
may suggest that she is changing to a shape in which suits her and is right for her. However, it possibly
indicates that women change the way they look to attract men. Indeed a size 8 which is a smaller size
is deemed to be more attractive and so in a relationship this might suggest the women must have a
suitable body so she can still engage the man s attention with her body. In A Streetcar Named Desire ,
Williams shows Blanche as acting different for different men. Her relationship with Mitch shows her
as being an innocent lady as she tells him to unhand her but she rolls her eyes at his expense, in secret.
This shows a rather deceiving nature as it shows, possibly, that women must be shy and lady like in
order to gain the security that is needed from men like Mitch. In contrast, Blanche s relationship with
Stanley is filled with sexual frustration. Indeed, from the first instance that she meets Stanley she
draw{s] involuntarily from his stare . This could suggest her fear of him and his evident domineering
presence in the room. However, her nervousness might also imply that she is attracted to him and she
cannot control her desire which makes her apprehensive and unsure as to how to approach him. In
addition, Stanley mocks Blanche for the extensive use of his bathroom for soaking in a hot tub . this
could show that she does this so often he knows exactly what to say. Williams might also be reflecting
on how the bathroom is Stanley s bathroom and thus Stanley s sense of possession is challenged by
Blanche in such that she uses his bathroom, she drinks his alcohol and she flirts with him but will
never be his and so this angers Stanley to the point of complete

The Ethics Of Police Ethics Essay
With the past and current issues our country is having with law enforcement officials the ethical
deliberations about corruptions is constantly examining the foundations of police ethics. The
reasoning following public corruption indicates an underlying social institutional structure that our
country has created. In 2006, Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa were convicted of racketeering,
extortion, obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and murder charges. Louis and Stephen worked in the
NYPD police department; however, they were actually working for the Lucchese crime family mafia.
In 2001, Joseph Miedzianowski worked as both a police officer and a drug kingpin; therefore, he used
his knowledge from both sides of his work to shake down drug dealers. From 1972 until 1991, Jon
Burge oversaw the torture of hundreds of African American men with radiators, cigarettes, and
electrocuted their testicles; therefore, in order to assure Chicago police department could get their
confessions. During Hurricane Katrina Robert Gisevius, Kenneth Bowen, and Anthony Villavaso
members of the New Orleans police department murdered an innocent sixteen year old James
Brissette under a bridge. Situations like these are highly publicized and often lead the public to doubt
our countries police department members. Corruption of ethics and morals within a police department
is destructive, and can have a crippling effect on the police department s organization. When an
organization experiences a

Old Spice Commercials
Old Spice vs. New Spice
Commercials and ads are a pesky part of everyday media in the world. They re main objective is to
catch a certain group of peoples attention while interesting them in buying a product. That s what the
ever classic Old Spice commercials do; grab the attention of viewers immediately and efficiently sell
their products. Oddly enough, Old Spice uses women as their primary marketing group by claiming
that using the products will make their man smell like the perfect man . These claims are backed by
two actors, Isaiah Mustafa and Terry Crews, appealing to the different wants of women. Isaiah
Mustafa commercials use more sexual appeal and desires to attract the female audience. They are
calmer and give the viewer a flavor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of these commercials are to show that the body wash can make the viewers man more
powerful and dominant. Terry Crews has a body builder type physique, which is completely different
from the smaller, more sensual look of Isaiah Mustafa. The perfect man is defined in these set of
commercials by someone who is not afraid to take charge. It attracts women who want the man to play
a real man s role in the relationship instead of a wimp. It also implies that women want a humorous
side to their men. The commercials go over the top to try and gain viewer attention. Not only is Terry
Crews yelling at the audience, but the special effects of explosions and clothes being blown off from
someone else yelling at you is too outrageous for most people to ignore. The commercials always grab
the attention of whoever is in the room while mostly targeting women who want a dominant

The Role Of Media In The Media
The media controls society, whether we agree with this or not. Their depiction of acts constitutes our
image of the world around us. They shape the public perceptions, and create moral panics. Human by
nature are attracted to violence, as proven [b]y age 18, it is estimated that the average child will have
seen approximately 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on television alone (Senate Committee
on the Judiciary, 1999). This shows violence is a part of our daily lives. This is entertaining to people
and therefore the media picks up on this and reports it religiously. Stanley Cohen (1972/1980), Goode
and Ben Yehuda (1994) laid out the ways in which the media captures our attention, and capitalizes on
it in many instances to push their own agendas. This and the cause of moral panics is a repercussion of
the problem frame.
The media and its portrayal of crimes are based around one idea, which leads to other problems. This
idea is the problem frame, in which the media s primary concern is capital and in order to make
capital, they need to make the news entertaining. They proceed to present a story where it is evident,
who is correct and who is wrong with just a glance (Steeves and Milford, 2015). This usually involves
talking about violent incidents or groups, such as MS 13. This framing of crime leads to many other
problems, people continually view the world as a downtrodden and violence ridden which leads to
moral panics. Cohen talked about moral panics as when a

The Integration Of Emotional Intelligence Into Healthcare
The Integration of Emotional Intelligence into Healthcare Throughout today s healthcare industry,
many organizations have been constantly striving to stay ahead of the competition. One area of focus
has been improvement of the organization s leaders. In order to create a strong organizational culture
and successful healthcare system, effective leadership is needed. It is thought that one major
characteristic that aids in the effectiveness of many leaders is the ability to utilize their emotional
intelligence. This paper will discuss the development and background of emotional intelligence, its
importance and function within the nursing industry, the integration into one s own practice, as well as
the role it has played in regards to personal growth.
Development and Background The theory of emotional intelligence was first introduced in 1990 by
John Mayer and Peter Salovey. They developed various ways to measure emotional intelligence
abilities, if it improved with age, and if emotional intelligence abilities formed a unified intelligence
(Mayer, 2009). Mayer and Salovey found that if all criteria were met, than it was said to be a true
intelligence. As described by Mayer (2009), emotional intelligence can be defined as one s capability
to reason about emotions and emotional information, and of emotions to enhance thought. Those with
high emotional intelligence can accurately perceive emotions in other s faces. They also know how to
use specific emotional times within

J. K. Rowling?s Portrayal of Magical Creatures in the Harry Potter Series as Compared to Creatures in
Ancient Mythology The world famous book series, Harry Potter, has been an instant success
worldwide. This series follows the life of a young boy, Harry Potter, in chronological order from the
beginning to the end of his schooling. Harry Potter is schooled at a magical school somewhere in
England, which is where the majority of the books take place. He is an adventurous boy who
experiences many different quests and journeys with his loyal friends. This book series focuses mainly
on the many magical creatures from many different types of mythology, some even including stories
with Indian, Greek, or Roman backgrounds. J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series,
incorporates these magical animals into the stories? plots and help to convey several messages about
Harry Potter. The mythical creatures that are the most prominent in Rowling?s series are the dragons
and werewolves. The dragon and werewolf both have origins found in mythology and are crucial to
Rowling?s themes in the books Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Prisoner
of Azkaban, furthering the messages that Rowling is trying to portray to her audience. In the Harry
Potter series, written by J. K. Rowling, Rowling uses two specific magical creatures that have many

would outweigh price considerations. The Company, capitalizing on the exponential growth in this
segment has adopted the following changes to their marketing mix aspect of Price and Products.
PRICE: A typical customer in this market segment would demand quality products / services. The
Company over the past years have increased the quality of their ice cream duly enhancing its taste, by
the usage of better quality raw materials, eg: milk, flavouring, in their products. Though this would
increase their base production cost, profit margins are enhanced by charging customer a premium for
making available quality ice cream. The premium charged would be relative to the cost of dining at
fast food chains such as McDonalds, Burger King etc. What would previously be considered a basic
priced item in the market would now be premium priced to provide the perceived value to the targeted
market segment.

Close to the table where Karolina and Anna sat down, several men were standing in a semicircle

Young ladies and gentlemen began to dance and swirl around the center of the ball room while

Needed. That is just one of the many words that pop into my mind when I hear the word
Confederation. My fellow fathers of confederation as many of you may already know I am John. A.
Macdonald and I am very much in favor of confederation. When I was just a little boy I moved from
Scotland to amazing Canada West. That is who I am here representing. Since a young boy I have
always thought that Confederation would be a great idea. I have over the years realized what this
would bring to all of us. My fellow colonies of Nova Scotia New Brunswick and Prince Edward

so great about that you may ask. Every winter the St. Lawrence freezes, we can t take the chance of

Soon afterward, a patent on this process was issued to Marshall in 1960. In the same year, Tsumura
and Sato reported the isolation of a specific soil organism that would produce an enzyme that
converted glucose to fructose (Inglett, 88). By converting large amounts of glucose into fructose, corn
syrup was promoted to high fructose corn syrup, abbreviated as HFCS, one of the sweetest and most
widely used sweeteners available.
However, it took 10 years for it to be sold and available to the public in the United States: High
fructose corn syrup was first mass produced at Clinton Corn Processing Company in 1967 (Ettlinger,
56). Japan actually started using high fructose corn syrup earlier and was the first in the world to
produce them in limited commercial quantities that contained 14 16 percent fructose in Japan during
the mid 1960 s (Inglett, 93). Further research and expansion enabled the industry to develop a higher
conversion and the first commercial shipment of 42 percent fructose syrup took place a year later
(Corn Refiner s Association).
3
Constant improvements in technology allow products to be produced more cheaply and quickly, which
now make it possible to produce profitable products containing 47% fructose (Inglett, 93). High
fructose corn syrup has numerous advantages that make it so much more economically competitive.
Firstly, high fructose corn syrup, on a dry substance basis, has the same

Because of the cost involved, beach nourishment is only used where other strategies prove to be

excess to where it is being eroded. This often involves dredging and transport of sand by truck or

prove to be ineffective. 1. What impacts have local residents and businesses had on Cronulla Beach?
The real impact regarding local residents and businesses on Cronulla beach is their influence on the
government as well as their input and suggestions on points of improvement for the Beach. After all,
these are the people that are going to be affected the most from any changes occurring. For example
the sea wall at Cronulla Beach is not the most attractive thing, yes it is highly beneficial but the local
residents and businesses that have to look at it all the time, may not be as pleased as the government is

Critical Thinking Skills For Nursing School Essay
INTRODUCTION
Organizational effectiveness depends upon the internal components of a business. For a hospital or a
health care organization the internal components are the nurses and healthcare workers within the
hospital. Business rely on their employees to make the business successful. For a healthcare
organization of any kind to be successful their nurses must have and maintain critical thinking skills.
Critical thinking skills often evolve over time with past experiences. This is why there must be a nice
blend of new and old employees within a unit to make the organization effective and to keep the
patients safe. However, critical thinking skills must being in nursing school. Institutions must help
facilitate higher level of thinking to help evolve critical thinking skills in order to have the best
outcomes for their patients. Better outcomes equal higher payouts for the business, so it is in everyone
s best interest to educate their staff and continue to strive for success.
CRITICAL THINKING Critical thinking is a term you will often here in regards to nursing education
and the ability to be a successful nurse. Critical thinking is one of the most important skills of a nurse.
Nurses must be able to constantly asses and analyze situations in order to prioritize what is the most
important task to accomplish next. This is an ever changing situation in health care and especially in
the Intensive Care Units. A critical thinker is habitually inquisitive,

Should The Responsiveness Of Margaret Thatcher s Time As...
There s no doubt that Margaret Thatcher s time as Prime Minister changed the way Britain saw itself
and how it was seen on the international stage, but what can be debated is whether or not she was
elected due to her own party s strengths, or the weaknesses of the opposition. The years before and
during Thatcher s time were fraught for the country, with inflation running high and lots of discontent,
displayed not only through strikes but also the via ballot boxes. Thatcher first came to power with a
majority of 43 seats for her first government in May 1979, which rose to 144 seats in June 1983 and in
June 1987 she received her third victory with a 100 seat margin, a sharp drop from 1983 but still a
comprehensive victory. A majority of 144

The Dragon Who We Soon Discover
I had qualms at first about how exactly to complete a task such as this, being that my experience with
this type of writing is limited at best. However, I will confess there is much fun to be found in the
fanciful wordplay. Not only are we asked to fill in a piece of the story, requiring knowledge of the plot
line at this point in the story, but the task also prompts a deeper understanding of the literary devices
and influences present in this style of writing. A task of this nature not only familiarizes students with
both the plot line and the technical aspects of the writing, but also fosters an opportunity to
incorporate creativity and merge all of these dynamic fragments into a single masterpiece.
To begin, I considered the surrounding plot of the story. Just before the section begins we learn of the
dragon who we soon discover is a major player in this epic tale. Thus far in the story the dragon has
played a rather dormant role. Beowulf has been ruling the kingdom for over 50 years and we have
heard not a single mention of the beast that sleeps as he guards his sparkly trove of wealth. At this
point we are also introduced to an escaped slave who wakes the fiery beast by stealing a gem studded
goblet from the lair. He claims that his thievery was in fact accidental, and so proceeds the tale of his
misadventures in the earthen pit. His story recounts that as he was escaping the chains of slavery he
unknowingly stumbled upon the lair, by chance finding himself amid the

Political Frame In Healthcare
As mentioned in the textbook, the political frame describes the behind the scenes structure and
functioning of every organization. The political frame is essential to the functioning from an
organizational stand point, with things such as authority, power etc., because authority and power are
required so that employees can look up to someone in moments of distress and can the authoritarian
persons can also be responsible for the final outcomes and the main goals of the organization they
work for. However, the political frame comes with its own set of drawbacks with qualities such as
conflict of interest and coalitions, politics etc. that often create disputes between employees and also
cause disturbances in the quality of work produced by employees ... Show more content on

Doctors can easily make money off of advertising drugs of certain pharmaceutical companies, and this
fact was proved by the investigating doctor. As Dr. Prasad followed developments on the situation and
tried to inquire, he discovered that those doctors had received thousands of dollars worth incentives
and bonuses from pharmaceutical companies, and hence were off to promote their brands. When Dr.
Prasad raised question on the issue, he was asked to stay off because the other doctors claimed that
medical doctors should stay off the topic of rising costs of drugs in the medical industry. This conflict
can have a drastic effect on the patients and the other people in the organization. For one reason, the
patients will be convinced to purchase the drugs that are being advertised over other products that
could better suit them and may take longer to heal and will have to pay a lot more money thus
affecting their financial stability, given that health care costs are forever on the rise. In this way the
conflict of interest can interfere with the ability of a doctor to provide excellent medical care and can

Everybody Dance Now Analysis
Sun Woo Kim: Paper #1
Regardless of the era, people who belong to it will dance at least once in their lifetime. One can go as
far as to say that dancing is crucial to one s overall happiness. Realizing this significance, C+C Music
Factory produced a song called Gonna Make You Sweat to inspire the world to dance. It reached its
peak in the week of February 5th, the day I was born and stayed on the Billboard 100 number one for
mere two weeks.
Gonna Make You Sweat, or also known as Everybody Dance Now, is a song by C+C Music Factory.
This song is comprised of two components, the rap and vocal, performed by Freedom Williams and
disco/house artist Martha Wash. After it was released in December 1990, it was considered a
worldwide smash and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in February 1991.
This song was also number one on Billboard s Top R B Singles and on Hot Dance Music/Club Play as
well.

It has fast tempo and a regular rhythm. Martha Wash sings Everybody Dance Now and is later
followed by the rap of Freedom Williams. This illustrates the combination of both rap and gospel type
vocal. The chorus gives the song repetition that allows the audience to feel at ease and enjoy the
upbeat music. Also, Wash s chorus is very high pitched and produces much tension within the listener;
nonetheless, William s low key rap gives the resolution that they need.
C+C Music Factory were a group comprised of extremely skilled members and it is not surprising that
they produced a hit like that of Gonna Make You Sweat. As a group effort, they created a music with
lyrics that gave rise to ecstatic emotions within the audience and with just the right musical style. It is
a shame that it was released the week I was born; I wish to have lived during that week to experience

Imprisoned on Mango Street Essay
Imprisoned on Mango Street I am tired of looking at what we can t have. This particular quote
explains that
Esperanza desperately longs to leave Mango Street behind, but she also feels that she may be trapped
forever. Esperanza is coming to realize she may never get out of Mango
Street. Esperanza feels as though she is trapped many times. Three areas where
Esperanza realizes just how trapped she is are a treasure in a furniture shop that they cannot have,
Esperanza s family making lies about when they will leave, and the past experiences of Esperanza s
family members. To begin, Esperanza first realizes how trapped she is in Mango Street in one of her

Before the family had moved onto Mango Street, they had moved every year. Esperanza s parents had
always told stories about how they will move into a house that is unlike the others. Esperanza knows
she is stuck on Mango Street, and that there is little chance that she may leave someday because of the
number of times that she is denied something, such as in the furniture store. Esperanza feels ashamed
and unprivileged with her home. Her family, on the other hand, tries to escape Mango Street as often
as possible and visit rich homes nearby, the homes that they see in their dreams.
Esperanza has become more ashamed of her home because of the way the nun that walked by one day
reacted to her house, and by the way everyone around her wants to move away. She does not enjoy
looking at what she cannot have. All she can do is watch her father tell stories of the house they will
have one day as he holds a lottery ticket between his fingers. Finally, many of Esperanza s family have
been trapped in places they do not belong or want to be in. Esperanza s mother had a chance to get
out. Instead, she dropped out of school. Esperanza s mother did this because she was ashamed of
herself.
All she wanted were material things. Her mother was very intelligent when she left school. Esperanza,

Essay on Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice
The Rivals Love triangles are complicated and messy scenarios that are caused by the indecision of
the person in the middle or the inability of the others to move on. The same is seen in The Merchant of
Venice, in which Antonio and Portia fight for Bassanio. Throughout the play we see many bonds or
connections between both Antonio and Bassanio as well as Portia and Bassanio. To many, the main
plot may seem to be the conflict between Antonio and Shylock, when in reality it s the love that
Antonio and Portia have for Bassanio that leads to everything. The main plot is moved forward by the
bonds the two have with Bassanio and the rivalry they have with each other. Nearly everything that
happens in the play has to do with their fight for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Antonio s first quote in the play brings attention to his sadness: In sooth I know not why I am so sad.
It wearies me, you say it wearies you; But how I caught it, found it, or came by it, What stuff tis made
of, whereof it is born, I am to learn and such a want wit sadness makes of me That I have much ado to
know myself (1.1.1 7). Portia mentions her fatigue of everything around her, at which point Bassanio
is not around her: By my troth, Nerissa, my little body is aweary of this great world (1.2.1 2). This
shows that Bassanio means just as much to both, they are both sad because of Bassanio. Antonio is sad
that he will lose Bassanio, while Portia is sad that she may not even get him if another man chooses
the right casket before him. As Hyman says in The Rival Lovers in the Merchant of Venice , it may not
necessarily be homoerotic love that is driving Antonio to fight for Bassanio, it may just be that he feels
rejected by his friend who he did so much for. Antonio may be speaking the truth that he does not
know why he is sad. Although he knows that he should be happy that his friend is getting a wife, he is
not ready for someone else to take his place as the most important person in Bassanio s life (Hyman
3). The two try to one best one another in their attempt to get Bassanio. Antonio tries to win Bassanio

The Pittsburgh Pirates, a MLB baseball team playing in PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offers

What s Wrong With Gay Marriage By Katha Pollitt
The essay written by Katha Pollitt, titled, What s wrong with gay marriage is an intriguing one. At
first, the author, explains the notion that marriage and procreation do not necessarily go hand in hand.
And later, she carefully interprets the true meaning of marriage; by stating that there is a separation of
church and state. Most importantly, the author speaks to her audience in a clear and logical manner;
without adding personal biases. Although the essay may seem to have deterministic view on social
behavior. Nonetheless, I believe that does not disqualify the series of argument which she makes.

Rather, it is something deeper more genuine a union which does not need to follow social order. It is
about two people loving each other for how they naturally know how to. This makes the reader come
to the understanding that gay marriage is not an attention seeking behavior; but instead a sincere
desire for another. Pollit concludes by saying the only objection to gay marriage is based on religious
prejudice. Which means that there is no logical reasoning behind people disapproval of gay marriage.
Rather, it is merely something which someone else s god dislikes. At the end marriage is not defined
by religion; but instead interpreted by the government. Even if the holy book tells you to wed all the

Regarding the controversial issue of same sex marriage. It seems that Pollit is trying to justify same
sex marriage by comparing it to a legal substandard marriage (A man can marry a woman no matter
how ill acquainted). And in the essay of gay Marriage societal suicide by Charles Colson, he takes the
same approach by disregarding all the issues of traditional marriage. Both of these essays are guilty of

Minority Representation Of Minority Minorities
The insufficiency in the representation of minorities in higher education administration and tenured
faculty remained consistently problematic in spite of the existing and growing awareness within the
higher education community (Nye Maxey, 1994). According to McKenney and Cejda (2000), minority
representation in the American higher education system has generally been a major issue for the
academic community as a whole.
Racial and ethnic diversity has become increasingly more challenging throughout colleges and
universities across the United States. Little progress has been made, for instance, for minority faculty
members to move up through the leadership ranks. There are large disparities for minority faculty
members when data and demographic trends in faculty and institutional leadership are examined.
Higher education institutions, argued Gibson Benninger (1995), must increase their efforts in the
appointment of women and minorities because these two groups have been severely underrepresented
in leadership positions. Higher education institutions have not achieved much success with regard to
minority recruitment to leadership positions by failing to aggressively recruit minority applicants
(Gibson Benninger, 1995).
Since its inception in 1987, the diversity program that was aiming to link academic excellence and
social diversity at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus has shown some improvement in the
number of their minority faculty members of tenured and

Finding The Concentration Of Hard Water Ions
Finding the Concentration of Hard Water Ions in a Water Sample Using Complexometric Titration
By: Alya Barq
CHM 2046L
22 April 2016
Abstract:
Hard water is defined as water with an excess content of ions such as Mg2+ and Ca2+. Hard water
causes a variety of problems, among them being that hard water ions can block pipes and decrease
water flow, can cause scaly deposits to form where there is water contact, and cause an increase in
utility bills due to amassed scales in water heaters. In this experiment, a sample of tap water was
tested in order to determine the concentration of Mg2+, and then this value was compared to a limit
set by the World Health Organization. In order to carry out this task, a complexometric titration was
performed in which EDTA was used as the titrant, and a solution containing the tap water sample,
buffer, indicator, and a solution of MgCl2, was the analyte. It was found that the magnesium ion
concentration in the tap water sample was close to 0 M, and this led to the belief that there was a flaw
in experimental design. Nonetheless, the evaluation of hard water ion concentration in drinking water
and tap water is very important and according to the WHO, it should always be below 500 mg/litre.
Introduction:
Water is given the name hard water when it contains significant concentrations of ions such as Mg2+
and Ca2+. In many places around the United States, significant concentrations of CaCO3 and MgCO3
dissolve into rainwater

The War On The Home Front
In a very short amount of time, America went a serious of events which had great influence on the
home front. Those two events were WWII and the Cold War. Civil rights, the cultural norms, and
society at large, had changed greatly during a short amount of time due to these events. The United

influence and impact on the successes that would come over time on the home front. Without these
wars and times of trials and tribulations, the civil rights movement and society as a whole, would most

Mobile Wireless Technology Is An Important Part Of...
Introduction The world lives a large evolvement in all life aspects. Everything moves in the comfort
direction. One of these aspects is the technician aspect and it is an important part of everyone s life as
every thing around you become technician. In your room there is a TV, mobile, laptop...etc. Even most
of kids toys became in need to a remote control. The wireless technology means no need to wires or
cables. Wi fi and Bluetooth are examples of that. Mobile wireless industry now is in the head of all
industries due to the increasing in mobile usage day after day. It passed through several generations
until it reached this great evolvement which we see now. It started with the first generation 1G with
analog communication. In the second generation 2G the digital messaging was added to the analog
communication. In the 3G, both calls and messages became digital. In the 4G which we have now the
improvement was in the usage of a large bandwidth. The generation which is expected to appear is the
5G. The 5G is purely based on the 4G and will give a huge level of bandwidth which we cannot
imagine. Furthermore, there are two predicted generations 6G and 7G. The 6G will be a satellite based

The Will To Believe Is A Philosophical Essay Written By
The Will to Believe is a philosophical essay written by William James. In the book, James focused on
the concepts of genuine choice and forced beliefs. His argument is that individuals have choices to
believe; however, those choices are shaped around facts and forced beliefs. He also argues on religious
hypotheses and the concept of belief without reason.
The first problem James tackles is genuine options. He disagrees with Clifford on the idea of genuine
options. He believes that there are certain things which we cannot wait for efficient evidence before
we make a claim. Those things are the ones where religious faith is intellectually acceptable. He states
that genuine belief is living, forced and momentous. A living belief will be ... Show more content on

We are supposed to gain, even now, by our belief, and to lose by our non belief (James 136).
According to James, science says things are, morality says things are better than other things, and
religion says essentially two things. Firstly, she says things that the best things are the more eternal
things (...) the things in the universe that throw the last stone (James 136). The second one states that
we are better off if we believe her first affirmation to be true.
Furthermore, religion is momentous force because the answer to these religious force is all up to you,
there is no intellectual ground to answer the questions. Therefore, James is saying, if you are a theist,
there is nothing wrong in choosing to believe that there is a God, also, if you are atheist, there is
nothing wrong in choosing to believe there is no God. This is because it takes as much faith to say
there is no God as that there is a God. Therefore, according to James, we can believe or not believe
based on our irrational passions alone.
In addition, James lays out the problem of choosing to believe. He argues that people are inherent
believers by nature and that they do not choose to believe.
There are some flaws in James argument. Firstly, his claim that belief in God is live, forced and
momentous and cannot be decided on intellectual means. The question of whether God is live has only
to do with the individual. There are some theists that are so dogmatist that they would

Gee created and described Discourse as ways of being in the world; they are forms of life which

Six-Minute Walk Test
In clinical practice, functional tests are important tools to assess exercise capacity of patients with
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)1. The gGold standard test to identify the cause of
exercise intolerance is the maximal cardiopulmonary exercise testing with direct measurements of
expired gases1,2. However this test is complex, expensive and requires specialized staff, precluding
their use in clinical routine3. As an alternative to maximal cardiopulmonary exercise testing, the six
minute walk test (6MWT)4 has been more commonly used, since its cost is low, it is easy to perform
and has been used to assess exercise capacity before and after interventions. Currently the 6MWT is
well standardized by ERS/ATS4 and is the test most often used test in clinical practice to determine
the exercise capacity of chronic lung disease. Moreover, 6MWT is also a ... Show more content on

The comparison of tests conducted by different assessors should be seen with caution since it is
expected an increase in the error due to interpersonal differences in voice intonation in the verbal
incentives, ability in assessing the changes in physiological measures, and trust of the patient with the
assessor, causing an error an error rate which could complicate the interpretation of changes in the
functional capacity. However, few studies22,23 tested the inter rater reliability for the 6MWT, and
they verified only in a population with multiple sclerosis. Therefore, the inter rater reliability of
6MWT is still unknown in patients with COPD, which explains the relevance of our study. The aim of
this study is to analyze 6MWT the intra and inter rater reliability in patients with COPD. The authors
hypothesized that 6MWT would be reliable, in inter rater

Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces
A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between Ignatius
Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of Dunces. The
correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the beginning, Ignatius feels a
specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has put some distance between reality,
and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She
really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on how to better his life. In three separate endeavors
to calm her unwavering feedback and recommendations, he considers her advice, each time
completely failing and causing more trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a
comedic irony, she spares him from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic
medievalist who rejects the cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again,
pursues each hipster person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she
really needs to engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being
fixated on sex is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets
a progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes).
Toward the start of the connection between the reader and the relationship amongst Ignatius and

Dualism In Stephen King
Aside from Shakespeare and Stevenson there are a plethora of authors who are as proficient or
possibly more adept at portraying the theme of a book, play, or poem. One considerable example is
Stephen King. He is an otherwise unusual author. King s books seem to depict theme in a
extraordinary way. His atrocious book IT has a rather nightmarish way of illustrating plot and theme.
The book, though rather monstrous and horrifying, is a great read for young adults. King does an
exceptional job at representing duality in IT. The story follows the lives of seven children as they are
tormented by a infernal entity that feeds off the fears and phobias of its victims to disguise itself while
preying on little kids. The creature, or It predominantly appears in the form of a clown to draw its
preferred prey of young children. All the while each member of the group has encountered the
terrifying life forms manifestation in its various shape shifting disguises; these include a malevolent
clown for Richie, a headless boy for Ben, a fountain of blood for Beverly, a diseased and rotting man
known as a Leper for Eddie, a creepy painting come to life for Stan, Mike s parents burning alive, and
finally an apparition of Georgie for Bill. King s main motive was to insinuate fear in the lives of kids,
in his book IT. Most children, around the age of 10 12, are afraid of something.. King stated in a 2013
interview that he came up with the idea for Pennywise after asking himself what scared

In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell Rainsford has to prove he still has a
sense of humanity when he encounters The evil general Zaroff. Dwight Lyman once said, Character is
what you are in the dark. which is excellent quote to compare this story too. In the beginning of the
story Rainsford has his eye set out on the mysterious and ominous island which all sailors were afraid
to go too. The sailors claimed there was a beast on the island which was not afraid of any man, but
Rainsford without flinching left to this notorious island. Rainsfords actions show his bravery while all
other men are afraid. Upon arrival he walks through the forest with the noises of many animals
echoing throughout. Suddenly, he

Tragic Heroes, By Sophocles, William Shakespeare, And...
It is very easy to fall in love with the hero. The nobleman who commits no wrong, saves the day, and
usually looks good doing it. But the best characters aren t thoroughly perfect and selfless like we
would like them to be, because in the end, that s not real life. The best, most relatable characters are
those in which we can associate, abhor, and admire all at the same time. Sophocles, William
Shakespeare, and Arthur Miller were able to capture this character in the tragic hero. A character who,
despite their human nature, ends up destroying themselves because of their own faults. Though these
three playwrights display the tragic model in different ways, they all come back to point out the flaws
in human nature through five stages; nobility, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As radium continued to increase in popularity, more uses for the material emerged. The U.S. Radium
Corporation began making big money on having their workers paint watch dials with radium
luminescent paint known as Undark. Not only were these watches practical for everyday life, they
were also helpful with the war effort and provided young women with jobs to help support their
families with. The factories were clean and well lit, and the girls were paid 8 cents a dial and could
earn as much as $24 a day. However as these girls were painting their 300 dials a day, people didn t
seem to notice that the average painter consumed approximately 4,000 micrograms of radium in six
months , as they pointed the tips of their brushes on their lips to get a better point (Moss). The
hamartia never truly became apparent to anyone until girls such as Amelia Maggia started developing
the symptoms of radiation poisoning. For most girls it started with tooth decay, so The dentist would
remove the rotten teeth, already practically falling out of the girls mouths, but the gums wouldn t heal.
Instead, agonising ulcers sprouted in the holes left behind. Very often their jawbones crumbled to the
touch (Fergusson). However, instead of looking for answers in these never before seen medical
ailments, Amelia Maggia s death was reported as syphilis. This left radium and the U.S. Radium
Corporation unblemished, but instead brought humiliation to the families of the innocent girls like
Amelia. As we see the radiation begin to poison more and more unknowing citizens, it becomes clear
that it is those side effects that act as the equivalent of the hamartia in the tragic model, as it takes
control of the entire element just as ambition took full control of Macbeth without him realizing

  • 3. The Future Is Green Architecture Architecture is vital function for all parts of society. Without architects people would have to rethink how they enter buildings, fearing roofs caving in or structural beams giving out. The rigor of an architect s training leaves these possibilities and worries an unlikely prospect, not considered in the day to day in a person s events. Architects make both functional and beautiful structures that are appealing to the eye, as well as useful to the world. The world wouldn t be able to live in functional cities without the qualities of the architect s skills. The world would have to worry about a door frame falling on their heads as they walk through the door for their daily workday, into the building that houses their jobs, their pay based on the efficiencies of the buildings layouts. Hopefully a person office is the one in the corner with the view, built to capture the sights outside the window and the prestige of the position, all thought of and created by an architect. Architects have an extremely specialized task to perform. They have to make sure that a building is stable in all conditions and useful and also that it looks appealing to senses, capturing the light at dawn, changing with the light at dusk. Architects do great things and create even greater things, often unnoticed, but worthy of mention. Architects also have very fun creative jobs where they can go to a rigorous job and make sure everything is going as planned and the building will meet the needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Similarities Between The World s Wife And A Streetcar... Compare and contrast the ways in which Duffy and Williams present relationships relationships between men and women in The World s Wife and A Streetcar Named Desire The relationships that occur between men and women in The World s Wife and a Streetcar Named Desire have both similarities and differences in such that some of the women presented are subjected to subservient positions and some overcome these demeaning roles whereas others continue to be shown as staying in the portrayal of the inferior women. The men, on the other hand, are mostly presented as using their sexuality to attract women, or use them. Many relationships are founded on sex and little romantic feelings are involved. Relationships in both The World s Wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Thetis , Duffy shows how women in relationships often change themselves in order to please themselves or their man. Thetis changes to a suitable shape in which she is a size 8 . The word suitable may suggest that she is changing to a shape in which suits her and is right for her. However, it possibly indicates that women change the way they look to attract men. Indeed a size 8 which is a smaller size is deemed to be more attractive and so in a relationship this might suggest the women must have a suitable body so she can still engage the man s attention with her body. In A Streetcar Named Desire , Williams shows Blanche as acting different for different men. Her relationship with Mitch shows her as being an innocent lady as she tells him to unhand her but she rolls her eyes at his expense, in secret. This shows a rather deceiving nature as it shows, possibly, that women must be shy and lady like in order to gain the security that is needed from men like Mitch. In contrast, Blanche s relationship with Stanley is filled with sexual frustration. Indeed, from the first instance that she meets Stanley she draw{s] involuntarily from his stare . This could suggest her fear of him and his evident domineering presence in the room. However, her nervousness might also imply that she is attracted to him and she cannot control her desire which makes her apprehensive and unsure as to how to approach him. In addition, Stanley mocks Blanche for the extensive use of his bathroom for soaking in a hot tub . this could show that she does this so often he knows exactly what to say. Williams might also be reflecting on how the bathroom is Stanley s bathroom and thus Stanley s sense of possession is challenged by Blanche in such that she uses his bathroom, she drinks his alcohol and she flirts with him but will never be his and so this angers Stanley to the point of complete ... Louis and Stephen worked in the NYPD police department; however, they were actually working for the Lucchese crime family mafia. In 2001, Joseph Miedzianowski worked as both a police officer and a drug kingpin; therefore, he used his knowledge from both sides of his work to shake down drug dealers. From 1972 until 1991, Jon Burge oversaw the torture of hundreds of African American men with radiators, cigarettes, and electrocuted their testicles; therefore, in order to assure Chicago police department could get their confessions. They shape the public perceptions, and create moral panics. Human by nature are attracted to violence, as proven [b]y age 18, it is estimated that the average child will have seen approximately 200,000 violent acts and 16,000 murders on television alone (Senate Committee on the Judiciary, 1999). This shows violence is a part of our daily lives. This is entertaining to people and therefore the media picks up on this and reports it religiously. Stanley Cohen (1972/1980), Goode and Ben Yehuda (1994) laid out the ways in which the media captures our attention, and capitalizes on it in many instances to push their own agendas. This and the cause of moral panics is a repercussion of the problem frame. The media and its portrayal of crimes are based around one idea, which leads to other problems. This idea is the problem frame, in which the media s primary concern is capital and in order to make capital, they need to make the news entertaining. They proceed to present a story where it is evident, who is correct and who is wrong with just a glance (Steeves and Milford, 2015). This usually involves talking about violent incidents or groups, such as MS 13. • 28. Imprisoned on Mango Street Essay Imprisoned on Mango Street I am tired of looking at what we can t have. This particular quote explains that Esperanza desperately longs to leave Mango Street behind, but she also feels that she may be trapped forever. Esperanza is coming to realize she may never get out of Mango Street. Esperanza feels as though she is trapped many times. Three areas where Esperanza realizes just how trapped she is are a treasure in a furniture shop that they cannot have, Esperanza s family making lies about when they will leave, and the past experiences of Esperanza s family members. To begin, Esperanza first realizes how trapped she is in Mango Street in one of her routine visits to Gil s Furniture Bought Sold. Esperanza and Nenny discover a ... Esperanza s parents had always told stories about how they will move into a house that is unlike the others. Esperanza knows she is stuck on Mango Street, and that there is little chance that she may leave someday because of the number of times that she is denied something, such as in the furniture store. Esperanza feels ashamed and unprivileged with her home. Her family, on the other hand, tries to escape Mango Street as often as possible and visit rich homes nearby, the homes that they see in their dreams. Esperanza has become more ashamed of her home because of the way the nun that walked by one day reacted to her house, and by the way everyone around her wants to move away. She does not enjoy looking at what she cannot have. All she can do is watch her father tell stories of the house they will have one day as he holds a lottery ticket between his fingers. Finally, many of Esperanza s family have been trapped in places they do not belong or want to be in. Esperanza s mother had a chance to get out. Instead, she dropped out of school. Esperanza s mother did this because she was ashamed of herself. All she wanted were material things. Her mother was very intelligent when she left school. Essay on Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice The Rivals Love triangles are complicated and messy scenarios that are caused by the indecision of the person in the middle or the inability of the others to move on. The same is seen in The Merchant of Venice, in which Antonio and Portia fight for Bassanio. Throughout the play we see many bonds or connections between both Antonio and Bassanio as well as Portia and Bassanio. To many, the main plot may seem to be the conflict between Antonio and Shylock, when in reality it s the love that Antonio and Portia have for Bassanio that leads to everything. It wearies me, you say it wearies you; But how I caught it, found it, or came by it, What stuff tis made of, whereof it is born, I am to learn and such a want wit sadness makes of me That I have much ado to know myself (1.1.1 7). Portia mentions her fatigue of everything around her, at which point Bassanio is not around her: By my troth, Nerissa, my little body is aweary of this great world (1.2.1 2). This shows that Bassanio means just as much to both, they are both sad because of Bassanio. Antonio is sad that he will lose Bassanio, while Portia is sad that she may not even get him if another man chooses the right casket before him. As Hyman says in The Rival Lovers in the Merchant of Venice , it may not necessarily be homoerotic love that is driving Antonio to fight for Bassanio, it may just be that he feels rejected by his friend who he did so much for. Antonio may be speaking the truth that he does not know why he is sad. Although he knows that he should be happy that his friend is getting a wife, he is not ready for someone else to take his place as the most important person in Bassanio s life (Hyman 3). • 31. What s Wrong With Gay Marriage By Katha Pollitt The essay written by Katha Pollitt, titled, What s wrong with gay marriage is an intriguing one. At first, the author, explains the notion that marriage and procreation do not necessarily go hand in hand. And later, she carefully interprets the true meaning of marriage; by stating that there is a separation of church and state. Most importantly, the author speaks to her audience in a clear and logical manner; without adding personal biases. Although the essay may seem to have deterministic view on social behavior. Pollit concludes by saying the only objection to gay marriage is based on religious prejudice. Which means that there is no logical reasoning behind people disapproval of gay marriage. • 32. Minority Representation Of Minority Minorities The insufficiency in the representation of minorities in higher education administration and tenured faculty remained consistently problematic in spite of the existing and growing awareness within the higher education community (Nye Maxey, 1994). According to McKenney and Cejda (2000), minority representation in the American higher education system has generally been a major issue for the academic community as a whole. Racial and ethnic diversity has become increasingly more challenging throughout colleges and universities across the United States. Little progress has been made, for instance, for minority faculty members to move up through the leadership ranks. There are large disparities for minority faculty members when data and demographic trends in faculty and institutional leadership are examined. Higher education institutions, argued Gibson Benninger (1995), must increase their efforts in the appointment of women and minorities because these two groups have been severely underrepresented in leadership positions. Higher education institutions have not achieved much success with regard to minority recruitment to leadership positions by failing to aggressively recruit minority applicants (Gibson Benninger, 1995). • 33. Finding The Concentration Of Hard Water Ions Finding the Concentration of Hard Water Ions in a Water Sample Using Complexometric Titration By: Alya Barq CHM 2046L 22 April 2016 Abstract: Hard water is defined as water with an excess content of ions such as Mg2+ and Ca2+. Hard water causes a variety of problems, among them being that hard water ions can block pipes and decrease water flow, can cause scaly deposits to form where there is water contact, and cause an increase in utility bills due to amassed scales in water heaters. In this experiment, a sample of tap water was tested in order to determine the concentration of Mg2+, and then this value was compared to a limit set by the World Health Organization. In order to carry out this task, a complexometric titration was performed in which EDTA was used as the titrant, and a solution containing the tap water sample, buffer, indicator, and a solution of MgCl2, was the analyte. It was found that the magnesium ion concentration in the tap water sample was close to 0 M, and this led to the belief that there was a flaw in experimental design. Nonetheless, the evaluation of hard water ion concentration in drinking water and tap water is very important and according to the WHO, it should always be below 500 mg/litre. In the book, James focused on the concepts of genuine choice and forced beliefs. His argument is that individuals have choices to believe; however, those choices are shaped around facts and forced beliefs. He also argues on religious hypotheses and the concept of belief without reason. The first problem James tackles is genuine options. He disagrees with Clifford on the idea of genuine options. He believes that there are certain things which we cannot wait for efficient evidence before we make a claim. Those things are the ones where religious faith is intellectually acceptable. He states that genuine belief is living, forced and momentous. A living belief will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are supposed to gain, even now, by our belief, and to lose by our non belief (James 136). According to James, science says things are, morality says things are better than other things, and religion says essentially two things. Firstly, she says things that the best things are the more eternal things (...) the things in the universe that throw the last stone (James 136). The second one states that we are better off if we believe her first affirmation to be true. Furthermore, religion is momentous force because the answer to these religious force is all up to you, there is no intellectual ground to answer the questions. Therefore, James is saying, if you are a theist, there is nothing wrong in choosing to believe that there is a God, also, if you are atheist, there is nothing wrong in choosing to believe there is no God. This is because it takes as much faith to say there is no God as that there is a God. Therefore, according to James, we can believe or not believe based on our irrational passions alone. In addition, James lays out the problem of choosing to believe. He argues that people are inherent believers by nature and that they do not choose to believe. There are some flaws in James argument. • 50. Tragic Heroes, By Sophocles, William Shakespeare, And... It is very easy to fall in love with the hero. The nobleman who commits no wrong, saves the day, and usually looks good doing it. But the best characters aren t thoroughly perfect and selfless like we would like them to be, because in the end, that s not real life. The best, most relatable characters are those in which we can associate, abhor, and admire all at the same time. Instead, agonising ulcers sprouted in the holes left behind. Very often their jawbones crumbled to the touch (Fergusson). However, instead of looking for answers in these never before seen medical ailments, Amelia Maggia s death was reported as syphilis. This left radium and the U.S. Radium Corporation unblemished, but instead brought humiliation to the families of the innocent girls like Amelia. As we see the radiation begin to poison more and more unknowing citizens, it becomes clear that it is those side effects that act as the equivalent of the hamartia in the tragic model, as it takes control of the entire element just as ambition took full control of Macbeth without him realizing ...
