My Experience in the Military
Marcus Pennie Written Communication September 9, 2012 My darkest hour was also the moment I
became a man. When all my years of training, all the blood, sweat, and tears of running, aiming, skills
training, and hand to hand combat had finally been put to the test. My first kill. It wasn t a proud
moment but it was one on necessity and choice that I ve played over and over again and I still get the
same result. It would have gone exactly the same. September 21st 1999, 1327 Zulu time. We were
flying over Almaty, Kazakhstan. The rattling of the POS tin can they call an airplane was really

was it, I am going to lose my grip and this knife was about to go into my face. I quickly thought of
everything that would follow and everything that has happened to me up to that point in an instance.
Then as if a blessing from God, the door burst open and I redirected my focus to the door. So did he,
which was his mistake. I quick glanced back at him and noticed two things. His eyes were off of me
and his push weakened just for a second. The only second I needed. I pivoted my upper half to my
right and pulled his arm towards where my head once was, jamming the knife into the hardwood floor.
I brought my right elbow into his head and he toppled over. I reached for my side arm, rolled away, up
on to one side, aimed and fired twice. My pistol and eyes both rose up and to the left to the doorway
and fired three more times. Both enemies, cancelled. I took what seemed like an eternity to curse,
catch my breath and regroup myself. I stood up and realized the fight wasn t over. I still had to make it
to my unit. I made my way through the apartment I earlier crashed into, out into the hallway and back
up to the roof. I noticed insurgents on the rooftop directly behind me making half ass shots at me. I

Paternity Leave Benefits
Paternity Leave
As of 2015 less than 20% of employers offer paid paternity leave. This low number is staggering when
you look at all the benefits that come from a new father being at home with his newborn. The benefits
to employers alone should send that number skyrocketing. Paid paternity leave promotes better child
cognitive development, allows for faster recovery for the mother, and makes for better employees.
Paid paternity leave should be a benefit provided by every company in the United States for all full
time employees and would prove to be a profit for the company. Fathers attach to their babies in the
way similar to mothers and at the same time, making it important for new dads to spend time as much
as possible with their newborns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows employees to take up to 12 weeks of un paid leave. It helps balance work and family life
without the fear of losing their jobs and benefits. The leave is easy to get if you are a full time
employee of a company that has more than 50 employees, has 20 or more work weeks, and you live
within 75 miles of your job. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against an employee that has
taken leave, but Federal law requires at least 30 days notice to the employer. If your work doesn t offer
paid paternity leave this is one option you have. Another is to use up any vacation and/or PTO. When
you put everything together you can see that the long term financial benefits of paid paternity leave
greatly outweigh the short term economic costs for any employer. Letting the father create such a
close bond with the child produces such enormous benefits it is inconceivable that more employers
aren t getting on board with it. I hope that in the future more employers will see the financial,
emotional, and mental benefits and incorporate paid leave for new

Jfk Inaugural Speech
Essay:
Language plays a crucial role in the development of power. Presidents in the United States use
rhetorical devices to emphasize a specific point and to make it clear to the audience. President Thomas
Jefferson is a democratic republican and he won the election of 1800; there he presented his
inauguration speech, this speech had significance because it was first time in the history when the
power shifted from one party to the other. Martin Luther King, Jr. served as an American minister and
played an active role in the civil rights movement. To further increase his liability in the civil rights
movement, he presented I have a dream speech that improved his position in the movement by
mentioning equality rights that all men deserve. John F. Kennedy delivered his speech during his
inauguration tried to develop relations with Soviet Union and end Cold War. All the speeches
delivered by most known personalities used rhetorical devices such as allusion and repetition to make
their message memorable in the hearts of the citizens of America. The most known personalities used
allusion to lend authority to an idea and make association with a term that the reader is familiar with.
John F. Kennedy alludes to Isaiah to make his claim stronger and introduce a familiar concept to the
audience (John F. Kennedy). Isaiah is a familiar concept to the Jews as they worship him as God. The
author alludes to Isaiah in his speech to support and convey his claim that all the states should unite.
Alluding to Isaiah allows the reader to connect with a familiar concept. He further improves his claim
by showing that it is the command of the Isaiah to possess no hatred and stay in Unity. John F.
Kennedy is referring to the Soviet Union and Communists that they must stop fighting and avoid the
Cold War that was taking place during his presidency. Martin Luther King, Jr. alludes to the
Constitution to support his claim about the equality to African Americans. Constitution is the
document used by the government officials to govern the country. By alluding to Constitution , the
rhetor is providing evidence to his argument that African Americans should receive privileges that
Americans receive. It also helps the reader

Society Versus the Individual Essay
Society Versus the Individual
The adage, the proper study of man is man , aside from its obvious gendered exclusion, describes
mounds of writing and thought about society and its components. Debates rage on in virtually all
fields with variations on the same theme: society versus the individual. In the writings of Durkheim,
Sahlins, and Foucault, the individual as coherent, persistent, and in control dissolves and is subsumed,
to different extents, within society. For the first two, society dominates the individual to a large degree
but not entirely. For Foucault, however, the entire terms of the debate seem meaningless, as both are
constructs of one larger mode of discursivity: the power/knowledge game that creates the ... Show

Obviously, these philosophical distinctions do not necessarily preclude subjectivity or make one feel
any less free , but the move is important strategically. If the subject is, while not an illusion (Foucault
29), fabricated by discourse, it becomes a politicized space that can have various destructive or
productive effects.
Beyond being merely arbitrary, Foucault offers some solid reasons the individual may be politically
undesirable. On the one hand, the concept of an individual subject with relative autonomy, coherence,
persistence, and so forth is far from internally cogent. If the subject is partially determined, and
partially free, the theory doesn t say much at all because free remains undefined. If the freedom has
behavior, patterns, or rules then it is not free, but if it is random, it is just as meaningless to call it free.
Further, if the subject is only free in certain cases, but is not free to determine what those cases are,
then it cannot control its own freedom, and is thus again unfree. Even if the self were considered
entirely free, which can only be established of course by non falsifiable decrees such as the Sartrean
insistence

Using a subset of data from the Autism Spectrum Australia study done in 2013, this report examines
the employment activities and outcomes of 130 adults diagnosed with Asperger s Disorder and High
Functioning Autism. The study looked at several outcome areas including their current occupation,
skill level, type of job contract, work hours, job support to find work, job support at work, and their
positive and negative experiences of employment. Based on this examination, the authors found that
adults with AD and HFA continued to struggle with workplace difficulties and a lack of understanding
and support, even if they showed a capacity and willingness to work.

This literature review addressed the various outcomes for adults diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome
(AS), including employment, by examining variables, such as comorbid mental and physical health
conditions, neurological issues, legal system challenges, mortality rates, and general treatment.

Love Walked In Sandoval Character
While reading Love Walked In, one character strikes me in particular. Mateo Teo Sandoval. The
charming, loving, brother in law of Cornelia Brown, and probably the best father figure in Clare
Hobbs life. The reason I enjoy his character so much is because he reminds me of my mom. I know
this seems weird because Teo is much younger than my mother and a guy, but it s true. The reason I
say this is because both Teo and my mom share a quality that I admire in both: the ability to give great
advice and comfort. Throughout the story Clare searches for guidance and someone with whom she
can share her feelings, and when she can t find this in her biological father she turns toward Teo. She
needs him even more so after her father passes away. Teo

Yutaka Nakamura in 1979, working under RTRI (Railway Technical Research Institute) of JNR,
developed a new idea for EEW system and called it UrEDAS, Urgent Earthquake Detection and
Alarm System. The main UrEDAS functions are the estimation of magnitude and location,
vulnerability assessment and issuing warnings within a few seconds using initial P wave motion at a
single station. UrEDAS calculates parameters such as back azimuth, predominant frequency for
magnitude evaluation and vertical to horizontal ratio for discrimination between P and S waves, using
the amplitude for each sample in realtime. UrEDAS can issue a P wave warning with a processing
time of just three seconds after detecting the P wave. After the 1995 Kobe earthquake, ... Show more

As vb = ab/2πF. (Y. Nakamura) w = m. A. ab. A. vb = m.A. ab. A. ab/2πF = (m/2π). A2/F. ab2 =
(m/2π).Kd. ab2 Kd = A2/F (3) where m is the mass of the object undergoing seismic acceleration. The
dominant frequency (F) and amplification factor (A) are directly related to the seismic motion applied
to the train body. The dynamic characteristics of the trains are known in general. F and A are estimated
from F g and Ag for a train resting on the ground surface. For a train resting on a structure, these
values are termed as Fsg and Asg for both structures and ground. Site characteristics are reflected by
the Kd value. In the case of a large Kd value, work rate (w) and the possibility of derailment/overturn
are also large. The Kd value was therefore considered as an index of vulnerability of trains to
derailment overturn. As previously mentioned, Kd values for a train derailment/overturning are
directly related to the power of earthquake motion. It has also been clearly shown that there is a strong
relation between K value and damage. Starting from equation (3), two new parameters PI (P wave
Index) and DI (Damage Intensity) were proposed.
The earthquake destructiveness is estimated with the help of the power density PD (W/kg) of the
earthquake vibration which is calculated from the inner product of the acceleration vector a (cm/s2)
and the velocity vector v

A Report On The Snowden Leaks Essay
2.2 The Snowden Leaks
2.2.1 History
The government has a responsibility to protect its citizens from terrorism. Since 9/11, this threat has
been constantly growing and the government has taken steps to respond to this threat. The first of
these steps was to increase resources dedicated to identify and prosecute known and suspect terrorists
and would be terrorists to try and gain more information about possible attacks, and serve justice to
those guilty of terrorism. The next step was to restructure existing anti terror organizations (such as
the FBI) and to develop new tools, mostly in the form of legislation, to help combat this growing
threat. However, while implementing these measures, the government also made efforts to protect the
rights and privacy of Americans (https://www.justice.gov/archive/opa/pr/2008/September/08 nsd
807.html : Justice Department, 2008).
However, recent terrorist strikes such as the San Bernardino attack have been carried out following the
widespread availability of encrypted devices for consumers which makes it harder for the government
to collect information regarding these attacks from first hand evidence without support from the
companies involved in creating these products. This cooperation between the government and the tech
companies was undermined by the leak of documents detailing mass surveillance of millions of people
both inside and outside of America by the National Security Agency which led to companies feeling

I Am A Tck, Or A Third Culture Kid
I am a TCK, or a Third Culture Kid. . Third culture kids are children who are raised outside of their
parent s culture. Many TCKs are moved from country to country so often that they have no ties to any
particular culture, but rather find a sense of belonging to every culture, even ones they don t live in. I
was very little when I realized I wasn t like every other little Turkish girl, mostly because I wasn t
Turkish. At first, being American was horrible and uncomfortable. I felt judged simply because of
where my parents were from. Eventually, I realized that I was not really American. Nor am I French,

It is definitely unlikely that everyone at my French school seamlessly switched to Turkish in my
presence. After a brief explanation that they most likely did not speak Turkish to me, I was appeased.
In second grade, I remember my difference becoming relevant once again. Suddenly, I wasn t a little
French girl, as I had grown accustomed to thinking of myself. Instead, I realized that my distant
nationality was more relevant than I had previously thought. I was the American in a French school,
and that was a bad thing to be. I clearly remember my teacher openly mocking Americans. Initially, I
thought nothing of it, I laughed with the class, not necessarily realizing that I was American, that I was
exactly who my teacher was mocking. Even though I didn t really identify as an American, I knew that
everyone else thought of me as the American. I felt as though everyone else was making fun of me
personally.
I learned to hide my nationality amongst my French friends. When asked, I would merely tell people
that I was born in Turkey, hoping they would assume that was my nationality and move on.
Thankfully, I was also a part of a community of ex patriots, and I had many friends who were also of
American nationality. We would often talk about the negative stereotypes we face as Americans in
school, and express our frustration of not feeling like we belonged to any culture. None of us were
technically French, and no one felt American because that

John Donne s Sonnet About Death
John Donne s sonnet about death focuses on the popular opinion (then and now) of death and the
process of dying. To Donne, death, a necessary passage to eternity, is pleasant and better than sleep,
and many people give death more power and honor than he deserves. Because of its pleasure, Donne
theorizes that death releases all pain and grief and is associated with only positive emotions. On the
other hand, a rock song released in 2012 called The Fighter written by The Fray discusses the fear and
pain associated with the experience of death. John Donne s tenth sonnet explores an attitude of death
that people perceive it to be and what death really is according to ideas of Christian eternity and
pleasure. These attitudes of death that Donne discusses in his sonnet oppose the attitudes of death in
The Fray s song which portrays death as painful and frightening with affects of loneliness and despair.
Donne s sonnet begins with an octet that addresses and describes Death as being incapable, pleasant,
and powerless. To Donne, death is incapable of fully killing someone, for what death perceives as a
person s end is only sleep in terms of Christianity. Sleep is a luxury and a necessity, so it follows that
death is a luxury and a necessity in order to enter into eternal life (Chippchipp1). Donne admonishes
death, telling it to not be proud or think that it has the power to kill someone, because if one holds to
the Christian idea of eternity there is nothing to fear in death.

Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes
Don Quixote
The Ballet performance Don Quixote is based on the worldwide known novel Don Quixote de la
Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally performed by the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow and
choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now days
there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has adopted this
performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin American taste
with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the Fort Lauderdale
Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don Quixote in three main
acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio, an impoverished barber
young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a Gamache. Gamache is a rich
old toreador and is willing to pay Lorenzo, Kitri s father, for marrying her. In this act Don Quixote and
Sancho Panza arrive to the town and try to protect Kitri from her father and Gamache. Finally they
Kitri and Basilio escape from the town with Don Quixote and Sancho, but Gamache and Lorenzo are
going behind them. Following the first act comes the second where the characters arrive into a gypsy
encampment, the gypsies dance for Kitri and Basilio to welcome them but when Gamache and
Lorenzo arrive they confuse them and help the lovers to escape again. Later on Don Quixote fins a

Egypt And Greek Comparison Essay
The development of civilizations was the key factor in advancing society, advancements that disposed
of the idea of a hunter gather society. The ancient Egyptians and the Greeks are known for
contributing the most towards civilization. However, each possessed similar and different qualities
that came together to help shape our world today.
The Egyptian civilization was very fortunate in terms that their environment was very dependable
unlike Greece. The annual flooding of the Nile river renewed the soil and brought about fertile black
soil that in turn resulted in them being the richest agricultural region. Egyptians figured out that the
land beyond the river was inhabitable and the environment was not dependable. Realizing this they
built their civilization around the Nile river and used the flooding to their advantage. However, unlike
the Egyptians who settled around the river the Greeks built many cities upon mountain strongholds.
For example, acropolis of Athens is known for being the fortified palace on top of the mountain.
Like many early civilizations, both the Egyptians and Greeks had a social pyramid that didn t give
much freedom to the people. In Egypt, the Pharaoh his family were known as completely apart from
everyone else. There was the small majority of nobles who served priests and also the elite who were

King Arthur Hero
Medieval literature has fascinated me even when I was a child. Something about tales tales of epic
quests to recover an ancient artifact or mystical power, or even to take back a Holy Land, these are
just a few examples of pieces of literature that excite me. The one thing that excites me more than the
quests, are the knights and heroes that are on this voyage. They are so amazing because they are such
a diverse group of characters all with different personalities, back stories, and life goals, all bound
together as a team to achieve their quest. People like Robin Hood, Beowulf, and the one that stands
out to me, King Arthur. King Arthur was...well a King during the fifth while most wars against the
Anglo Saxon tribes were still going on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These three knights would be Sir Percival, Lancelot, and Bedivere. Sir Percival was King Arthur s
most loyal knight, and proved his worth to the king by retrieving the Excalibur, the sword King Arthur
used in many of his battles, from a lake guarded by a group of gnomes. Sir Percival was also the last
of the three knights in the search for the Holy Grail and ended up becoming the holder, or defender if
you will, of the Grail. This story however, has many different renditions between cultures and
countries, but usually they all end with in the some way the Holy Grail ending up in his possession
and him serving as the keeper of it. Sir Lancelot was King Arthur s best friend and my second favorite
knight. He was the only knight who was able to defeat King Arthur in a jousting match, but even then
the two were extremely close to one another until Sir Lancelot betrayed his friend s trust by falling in
love with the Guinevere. This occurred when Sir Lancelot save Queen Guinevere from an abduction
and the two began to have a secret affair. Eventually King Arthur discovered the two silent affection,
but his love for his wife and best friend ended up having him spare the two. He lived the ends of his
life as a lonely hermit. The last knight is Sir Bedivere, my favorite knight overall. He was one of the
first knights to join the court and served King Arthur to the very end of his reign. He even helped King
Arthur in the fight to take back Camelot, losing one of his hands in the process. In the fight King
Arthur as previously mentioned is wounded to the point of near death. In this process the Excalibur
ended up in Bedivere s possession, though with all the power at his disposal, King Arthur asks him to
return the sword back into the lake where it was originally found so it s magical powers may heal his
wounds and bring his strength back. Sir Bedivere has

Selcting an Approach for a Qualitative Research Plan Essay
Selecting an Approach for a Qualitative Research Plan
Creswell (2013) contends that we need to identify our approach to qualitative inquiry in order to
present it as a sophisticated study, to offer it as a specific type so that reviewers can properly assess it,
and...to offer some way of organizing ideas that can be grounded in the scholarly literature of
qualitative research (p. 69). Although I believe all three arguments cited by the author are important,
this week s readings and discussion emphasized the third reason in particular. Indeed, reviewing the
five approaches provided me with ideas regarding how to investigate and explore the topic. Although I

Through interviews and extensive data analysis the phenomenological study will aim to summarize
what the individuals have experienced and how they have experienced it to arrive at the essence of the
issue under investigation (Moustakas, 1994 as cited by Creswell, 2013, p. 79). Given the issue,
transcendental phenomenology appears to be a desirable approach to gain a better understanding of
the issue due to bracketing and its aim at perceiving a phenomenon new, fresh, and for the first time
(Creswell, 2013, p. 80).
Conducting a case study appears equally appropriate. Since case studies consist of qualitative
approaches in which the investigator explores a real life, contemporary bounded system or multiple
systems over time, through detailed, in depth data collection involving multiple sources of
information, and reports a case description and case themes one could emphasize the changes in
democratic participation as well as the motivators (Creswell, 2013, p. 97). Furthermore, case studies
provide a wide array of approaches, including both quantitative and qualitative elements as well as
explanatory, exploratory, and descriptive directions that could be used to investigate the proposed
question (Creswell, 2013). Case selection would be purposeful, probably focusing on one to five
NGOs engaging with the government to influence public policy and the people involved with the

The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful
The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful

Abstract
In recent years, much research has been devoted to the exploration of DHTs; on the other hand, few
have simulated the construction of architec ture. In this position paper, we demonstrate the study of
simulated annealing. Our focus in this paper is not on whether the Internet can be made certifiable,
semantic, and optimal, but rather on motivating an analysis of write ahead logging (INK).
1 Introduction
Recent advances in stable modalities and au tonomous epistemologies are rarely at odds with access
points. The notion that physicists collude with A* search is usually excellent. On a sim ilar note,
though such a hypothesis is always a confirmed purpose, it fell in line with our expec tations. The
development of voice over IP would greatly amplify the simulation of the Ethernet.
Motivated by these observations, the under standing of randomized algorithms and agents have been
extensively developed by scholars. The basic tenet of this method is the deploy ment of IPv6. In
addition, we allow random ized algorithms [23] to provide self learning the ory without the
compelling unification of sensor networks and A* search. Furthermore, the draw back of this type of
solution, however, is that the much touted homogeneous algorithm for the in
vestigation of spreadsheets by White is Turing complete. Along these same lines, indeed, XML and

more likely to abide criminal behaviour when there is disruption during childhood psychosexual
development (Brookman, 2005a). In addition to development interruption, having a weak conscious
will coincide with the likelihood of criminal behaviour (Brookman, 2005a). The mind is comprised of
the Id, Ego and Superego, and when there is a conflict of these three efforts to make decisions results
in a weaker ability to make sufficient judgement (Brookman, 2005a). The Ego is supposed to reflect
adequate judgement through learning upon poor urges that lead ... Show more content on

Some of his signatures that was consistent and found through his victims and at the cottages were
bondage and strangulation, and his military writings. These type of M.O. s do not occur very
frequently as a tactic for death which eventually lead to the connection from Vancouver to Ontario.
For example, strangulation only occurs in 38.6% of killings (Fox Levin, 2015) and the use of gags or
blindfolds being 7.1% (Beauregard Martineau, 2012). It is also noteworthy Snow was described to be
a very organized individual, which increases the likelihood of moving the victim s body after the
crime (Beauregard Martineau, 2012), which was evident in the Blackburns deaths. Although these
characteristics are uncommon, police were able to utilize his M.O. to determine links between the
crimes and assisted in the identification of David Snow. Snow s victim s of the double murder were
acquaintances as they were connected from Snow going to the Blackburn s farm to get items for his
antique shop. According to Decker s article Exploring Victim offender Relationships in Homicide,
approximately 46% of homicides are involved with acquaintances (Decker, 1993). As Snow escalated
and the weekly victims occurred there was no evidence of knowing his victims, they were simply in a
vulnerable position which he took advantage of. This discrepancy of victim

Miss Brill
THEME of Miss Brill In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing people
in a park. Although ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince herself that she is
really an integral part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there. Her illusion is shattered
by a chance remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly devastated by her new
understanding of her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is that sometimes people can be
happy through living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness is fragile and can be easily
destroyed. Unfortunately, modern society does not provide a place for everyone. Inevitably, there are
those people, often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No doubt somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there; she was part of the performance
after all Miss Brill nearly laughed out loud (100). This realization eventually moves Miss Brill to
tears. Being a part of something as full of life as the park scene gives her a sense of belonging.
However, by this point in the story, the reader is aware that Miss Brill has deluded herself. Actually,
no one at the park is even aware she s around, and the truth is that if she weren t there, no one would
miss her at all. Happiness built on an illusion can only last so long. In the story, Miss Brill s happiness
is shattered by a single chance remark when the young couple who she has cast as the hero and
herione in her play casually insult her. Why does she come here at all who wants her? Why doesn t she
keep her silly old mug at home? (138). The story does not tell us Miss Brill s personal reactions to this
remark; instead, the point of view shifts so that we observe her actions as she goes home. However,
these actions are enough to illustrate that her self view has been destroyed. The first example of her
change in perspective is when she fails to go into the bakery, the usual climax to the Sunday park visit.
But today she passed the baker s by, climbed the stairs, went into the little dark room her room like a
cupboard and sat down on the red

Causes Of Cuban In The Spanish American War
Cuba in the Spanish American War The Spanish American war consisted of a series of influential
battles that pitted America and many of Spain s colonies against Spanish rule, and ended with Spain
losing its colonies and America gaining control over more and more land. In 1898, America joined a
war being pit against Spain to force the Spanish to relinquish all control of their colonies, including
Guam, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. This same war ended only a few months later, with Spain suffering
huge losses and America gaining money and territories. The Spanish American war could be split into
three main points of interest: How and why the Spanish American war started, The battles of Manila,
Santiago de Cuba, Asomante, and Las Guasimas ( And the Rough Riders) , and the aftermath of the
war. One of the most interesting territories was Cuba. Although the Spanish american war was not a
long and costly war, it changed many people s lives indefinitely. There were a plethora of important
events that took place that prompted the beginning of The Spanish American war. The war was
officially started in 1898, bringing joy to the citizens of America and dismay to then president William
Mckinley. Before the war, Cuba had been fighting for independence from Spain. The Cuban s had
already lost in the ten year war earlier, which had been fought to gain their independence from Spain.
In the state s, newspapers and other media sources were greatly exaggerating the horrors and atrocities

Analysis Of Red Sorghum
Red Sorghum, is a novel that was published in 1986 written by Mo Yan. It was Yan s first novel.
Lyrical, colorful, and disturbing, Red Sorghum is a powerful novel that takes place during one of the
darkest periods of Chinese history, which is the Japanese invasion of the 1930 s. With that being said,
within this novel Mo Yan does not shy away from graphic accounts of mercilessness and death. Mo
Yan, is an exceptionally talented story teller who cherishes portraying life in vivid and clear contrasts.
The novel is composed of the chapters: Red Sorghum, Sorghum Wine, Dog Ways, Sorghum Funeral,
and Strange Death. This 4 chapter novel traverses 40 years throughout rural China utilizing flashbacks
and anticipating, starting with the Japanese attack in the 1930s. Sorghum which is utilized as food and
as an ingredient of a powerful wine, had been the concentration and representation of peasant life
during the time where war was not in affect. In wartime, it moves toward becoming intertwined with
the struggle for life. Death permeates this novel, death severely prevalent with Japanese troops, by
factions within China, by crazed dog and death from things such as suicide and starvation. Red
Sorghum is a multi generational story of a family in Shandong. The narrator recounts the story of his
family s troubles and hardships which ranges from distillery workers creating sorghum wine to battles
amid the Sino Japanese War. Yan shy s away from chronology within the story, instead, he lets

analysis. The independent variable that I used for my research was respondent s sex, which was
labeled sex. For my dependent variable, I used respondent s income, labeled rincom06. The control

If I were to find a relationship between income and sex after the means comparison test, I would run a
multivariate regression test in order to analyze my dependent variable with my independent and
control variables.
For the purpose of the experiment, I must acknowledge that my hypothesis may be wrong. Therefor,
my null hypothesis is that there is no relationship between sex and income, proving that the pay gap
does not exist. My goal in my research is to reject my null hypothesis, and in turn accept my working
hypothesis.
Results
In order for a theory to be accepted, it must be tested. While one can rely upon the results of other
researchers, it is important to conduct one s own test in order to correctly receive results. Although I
read that there is a relationship between sex and income, I wanted to test these variables for myself. In
order to find an initial relationship I conducted a means comparison test between my independent
variable, sex, and my dependent variable, respondent s income. When I ran the means comparison test
I found that the average income of males was 15.54, the equivalence of 15.54 with regards to income
falls between the economic bracket of $25,000 $29,999 and $30,000 $34,999. The average income of
females was 13.21, which fell between the economic bracket of $20,000 $22,499 and $22,500
$24,999. This information has the potential to show me that my hypothesis is correct because in this

Essay about Sonnet to Science by Edgar Allen Poe
Sonnet to Science by Edgar Allen Poe
Edgar Allen Poe s Sonnet to Science is an example of how the structure of a poem can both aid and
hinder the poet in communicating his or her thoughts. Usually, when the poet chooses to structure his
poem in the form of a sonnet, he is, through his speaker, asking a question and reaching an answer. In
this poem, however, the speaker, probably a young poet, questions Science but reaches no conclusion.
Poe uses the English sonnet to communicate his youthful speaker s feelings of disdain for science and
facts as opposed to mythology and fantasy, which inspire poetic musings. He implores Science as to
why she must impose her dull realities on the hearts of poets like himself, squelching their ... Show

The first time the speaker uses a personal pronoun is in line 13, at the turn of the sonnet. He states that
Science, in addition to undoing the magic of classical mythology, has stolen his personal summer
dream. The speaker is evidently a dreamer and poet disappointed by the damper that fact places on
fancy. The tone throughout the poem is one of questioning, like most sonnets. However, in this
particular poem, the speaker is disdainful to the subject, Science. He angrily accuses Science of
preying like a vulture upon the poet s heart. The speaker seems to have personal resentment against
Science, because he names himself as suffering a loss at the hands of fact and reality along with the
mythological Diana, Hamadryad, and Naiad.
In the first line of the poem, Science! true daughter of Old Time thou art!, the speaker appears to be
respectful toward Science, and the reader might mistake this poem for a tribute to the subject.
However, the tone immediately changes when he describes Science as having peering eyes in line 2.
This is the reader s first indication that the speaker holds contempt for the daughter of Old Time. The
speaker s descriptions of Science grow worse as he accuses her of dragging Diana from her car, the
moon, and driving the Hamadryad from her wood, a tree which she is never supposed to leave. When
the speaker finally mentions himself as a victim of Science s dull realities,

The Great Trophy Debate
For many kids around the world, childhood sports are a cherished and blossom lasting friendships.
Some kids choose to participate and others just sign their children up. Recently, The Great Trophy
Debate has sparked a question of whether or not all participants should receive trophies or not.
Currently, many sport organizations have taken about traditional trophies and substituted participation
trophies for all. O Sullivan argues that participation trophies are not really trophies because the more
trophies given out, the less worth each will have. O Sullivan argues, Supporters of such trophies state
that trophies motivate kids to play, yet research shows that extrinsic motivation on its own can be
harmful, not helpful. ( The Great Trophy Debate. ) O Sullivan means that traditional trophies inspire
young athletes to compete with excellence. A trophy signifies an accomplishment. Yes, it is wrong and
harmful for an athlete to be solely motivated by winning a trophy. O Sullivan argues, that is equally as
harmful to remove this reward and act like a losing team is just as good as a winning team. Without
competition, what are sports?

Participation trophies are not the answer to solving this issue. Participations trophies are unjust
because they do not reward those who deserve it and do reward those who do not deserve it. A

Information Communication Technology And E-Learning In...
Today, new technologies including information communication technology (ICT) and e learning have
become the driving force in the education sector in Kenya. E learning is important in helping people to
access education easily. It allows learners to carry out their daily activities and learn at the same time.
In the modern world, lifelong learning is becoming an important concept. In this context, people have
to advance their skills to fit in the dynamic work places. E learning allows one to advance their skills
without taking long work leaves.
As the African society continually embraces modern technology, traditional forms of pedagogy in
higher learning institutions are failing to meet societal needs.
The Situation of e Learning in East Africa
The rise of mobile technology in Africa has become one of the most revolutionary steps in the recent
technological growth. Many people are now using smartphones and other handheld devices. Major
communication companies like Safaricom and Telkom Kenya are providing a stable connection to the
internet.
The Kenyan government has also made a major step in installing fibre optic connections to major
cities across the nation. Thus, fast and stable internet connection has motivated many people to
embrace e learning as a new method of learning.

Styles Of Parenting Styles
Basically all the traits that would would be expected a child to have based on each caregivers
parenting style if very different. Every child is different a way of parenting style may or may not affect
you in the future. For, example Ben Carson raised by single parent with little to no money. Ben Carson
grew with a mind for violence such as almost killing some loved ones of his. However, today Ben
Carson is a retired neurosurgeon. This just show that not every child living in poverty and being
influenced by violence is most likely to not succeed and continue that path as a child. Children that
grew up with parents with an Authoritarian style of parenting often had poor social skills, lower self
esteem, and basically always concerned of their actions because they are afraid of the consequences.
Children with Permissive parents know that they will always have it there way. Children that grew up
in this way of parenting tend to me immature, and often escape responsibilities. Children with
Authoritative parents tend be better off than the other children who s parents style of parenting was

When you are doing the displacement method there can be an error on how much volume of water you
accurately pour in.
B. What is the relationship between mL and cm3 (cc stands for cubic centimeters)?
Both of them are equal in terms of volume.
C. To help you get a feel for metric measurements, you need to know the relative magnitude of a few
basic measurements. For example: 1 mm = thickness of a dime, a penny weighs 2 ½ grams, and 20°C
= normal room temperature.
Determine the following:
1. What is the mass in kilograms (kg) of a person who weighs 143 lb?
64.9 kg
2. What weighs approximately 1 g?
1000 mg equal 1 g.
3. What is approximately 1 cm long, wide or thick?
10 dimes are equal to 1 cm of thickness.
4. What weighs about 100 g?
40 pennies weigh about 100 g.
D. An object has a density of 11.3 g/cm3. If it weighs 7.0 g and you added it to a graduated cylinder
with 5.0 mL of water, what will be the new volume of water in the cylinder after the object is added?
Volume 7/11.3=0.6195cm^3
Volume of water with object 0.6195 + 5 = 5.6195cm^3 = 5.62 mL

Themes And Themes Of The Film Zootopia
Traditionally, animated films have been made for and consumed by children, with the plotlines and
themes being relatively basic and forthright. However, recent years have seen the release of animated
films that explore significantly more adult themes and thought provoking ideas. Perhaps the most
confronting example of adult themes in an animated film is in 2016 s Zootopia . The film forces
viewers to think about concepts such as racial segregation, nature vs. nurture and the debilitating
effect of stereotyping. Although Zootopia features anthropomorphic animals, it is easy to draw a
connection between the film s prey vs. predator narrative and racial divide in our own society.
In essence, this paper will outline two significant themes related to crime and the effect of media
explored in the film. Most notably, the nature of crime and criminality is explored thoroughly.
Specifically, the effect limited opportunities and racial stereotyping can have on promoting an
individual down a path of crime. Particular attention will be given to a scene in which a youthful fox
wishes to join a prey dominant Boy Scout troop, only to be rejected and humiliated because he is a
predator. Furthermore, the concept of a moral panic caused by media news reporting is displayed
excellently in a montage scene in which prey are scared of predators as the media reports that
aggression and criminality is in their nature. Finally, I will critique how these issues are communicated
in a neo noir

demons from the head. Thankfully, mental health institutions have become better run and are not just
holding cells anymore. Despite all these changes, mentally ill people not only suffer from being sick,
but they also suffer from extreme oppression and isolation. Even with all the changes being made,
mentally ill people often do not have a sense of belonging or acceptance in the

Walt Disney Movie Analysis
Critique on the Filipino values presented in the films with emphasis on the following: emotion and
motivation; family relations; smooth interpersonal relations, cognition and world view.
Movies can and do have tremendous influence in shaping young lives in the realm of entertainment
towards the ideals and objectives of normal adulthood. Walt Disney (1901 1966)
Walt Disney was right in saying that movies really do play a role in shaping young lives in what it is
expected of them when they grow older. Now a days, this is indeed true whether it is a short or full
feature film. It is made more possible through the children s exposure to different mass media. Movies

Needs that are very essential to a child s development.
Thank God for the arrival of the child s grandfather, showering him with all the attention that he
needed. In true Kuya Bogie style, they created a tale of Josh as the hero saving the queen (his mother)
from the evil COMPUTER. Their story is basically the projection of what the child was feeling he was
fighting against the computer, which symbolized his mom s work,. Work , which was engulfing his
mom in its world where he was practically left out of the picture.
Often in Filipino families, the grandparents are the ones who are showering their grandchildren with
material things to the point of spoiling them. I usually see this scenario in my class. Lola or lolo is the
one attending the Parent Teacher Conference because the parents are just too busy with their work.
One student told me that his lola pays for all their trips abroad. She is the one feeling sad when her
grandson does not do well in school. How about mommy? Where is she? I asked. Always on the
phone. Since a lot of Filipino women are joining the workforce, the children often find themselves in
the care of their grandparents. There are pros and cons in this set up. The good thing is the children are
not just left with the yayas or in other countries the daycare. They are placed in the hands of family,
which is great. But this leaves the parents complacent with their child s well being. They feel

This decision affected Blackmon because in the long run she got hurt very badly. Also, she got
traumatized, but then learned to overcome it. These marches taught Backmon that there was strength
in numbers. They also gave Blackmon a second family . She was one determined woman, and she was
going to raise us up to be strong and determined too. (Lowery 16/17) This shows that even though
Lynda was injured she didn t let anything stop her because she was determined just like her mother.
This decision affected the lives of those around the main character because in the long run they got the
rights that they deserved. They also gained a sense of community and a sense of pride because they
worked for what they believed in. They learned many valuable lessons that would help in the future.
Lynda Blackmon had to make many life altering decisions. Three of these life altering decisions were

19th and 20th Century of Europe
Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries
Introduction
During the 19th and 20th century, Europe witnessed its so called demographic transition, with a fall in
birth rates and an even greater fall in mortality rates, which led to a rapid increase in the population.
The demographic transition was essentially a result of a decrease in chronic infectious diseases like
tuberculosis, syphilis, diphtheria, measles, dysentery, and typhoid fever.
The wage dispersion evidence suggests that the middle of the 19th century is an appropriate date for
the start of modern convergence in the Atlantic economy. One might view this convergence as one of
transition toward globally integrated Atlantic factor markets. The convergence in wages from about

And while restrictions on farm imports are still prominent in Europe today, OECD farm sectors are far
too small to matter economy wide to the extent that they did a century ago. Furthermore, the
migrations from poor to rich countries today are pretty trivial affairs compared with the mass
migrations up to World War I. Today, only the U.S. has across the border migration rates anything like
those recorded all over the converging Atlantic economy prior to the quotas. And governments today
have far more sophisticated ways to compensate losers than they had a century ago.
Conclusion
In conclusion we can say that during the 19th and 20th century the well to do European economies of
that time included the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany, as well as Britain. In contrast, the
nine members of the European periphery at this time were Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy,
Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. (Austria and Denmark can be viewed as straddling the margin
between core and periphery.) The industrial core countries had levels of GDP per head 67 percent
higher than the poor European periphery (O Rourke, 1997), and their real wages were 86 percent
higher than the periphery. Note again that the sample excludes east and southeast Europe simply
because the late 19th century data are inadequate for those regions. We do know, however, that these
countries were relatively

Rules To Stay In Horror Movies
You may ask yourself what are the rules to survive a horror movie? There are certain rules you need to
follow if you find yourself in a similar situation. The first rule is to stay in groups, if you split up there
is a higher chance of getting lost or killed. The second rule I ll be talking about is that you shouldn t
go places alone, you should always have someone with you. The third and final thing, I m going to
talk about is why shouldn t go outside at night, you could end up hurting yourself or someone else. I
am now going to go in depth about why you should stay in groups. Try to stay in groups, stick to
keeping up with certain people and stay with them. You could always have a witness, if you get
accused of something the person that

An Examination of Genders in World Regions
In societies past and present, there have been a variety of ways in which the genders have valued.
Although the regions of our world value different icons, gods, or elements, there is one thing in which
all cultures value, and that is the people of their society. Since people are high on a culture s priority
list, they value people in different way. Some cultures decide that one sex is superior over the other.
Although everyone is valued, there are certain times when some sexes are favored over the other.
There have been many primary documents which show us which sex the different cultures value. This
will show us that around the world people are not valued the same. This will give us an insight on who
these different worldly people value. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Chinese culture it was shown what a gentleman can do to help himself. In the Indian culture, it
shows what a woman can do to help save herself. In the Indian culture, there is a ceremony called sati.
Sati can be described as a traditional burning of the wife. This only occurs after her husband has
passed away and the wife throws herself into the burning flames which have engulfed her husband s
remains. If a wife participated in this ceremony she is considered faithful to her husband. It is said
that, The wife who enters into the fire when her husband dies, imitating Arundahati, (a star, regarded
as the wife of one of the Seven Rishies, and as a typical faithful spouse) in her behavior, enjoys bliss
in heaven. This will not only free her soul but also her husband s soul. She is also considered saving
herself when she leaps into the fire. In those times, being a widow is miserable. This is shown as,
There is no other misery for women like, widowhood. Happy is she among women who dies before
her husband. It says that she will be just as happy as any woman who has died before her husband.
While she is saving herself and her husband, she is also saving three of her families. It is said that, A
woman who follows after her husband shall surely purify three families: her mother s, her father s, and
that into which she was given in marriage. She

Addicted To Love Essay
Addicted to Love
In Gottfried Von Strassburg s retelling of the ancient romance, Tristan, love s portrayal as a
psychological disease is considerable. For Rivalin and Blancheflor, Tristan and Isolde, and also King
Mark, the affliction causes them to act in a way that they would normally shun. Love changes the
perspective on life of those who become intoxicated by its power; whether it s shared as a couple or
entirely unreciprocated, the lust to attain and secure its presence is consuming.
Love s torment of Tristan and Isolde is a sweet torment that noble lovers endure. Grieves are shared,
blessings are doubled, and embraces are electrifying on both the physical and emotional levels. One
sided love is a hell like no other. Here, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For both Rivalin and Blancheflor the danger involved in consummating their love is twofold. Bearing
a bastard child would result not only in the cataclysmic loss of societal position, but quite possibly her
death. Rivalin, less prudent then his future son, risks the wrath of an angry Mark by out right eloping
with his true love. Under the influence of love s tyrannical reign, both disregard their reservations and
good sense; blinded by passion they escape to Parmenie to be legally wed. Like a wounded cowboy in
a classic western film who downs whiskey to avoid the pain of a gunshot wound or snake bite, love
appears to ease the pain of Rivalin s wounds after a battle. Although on what is almost his death, the
passion for Blancheflor numbs his hurt and allows Tristan to be conceived.
As perfect lovers, Tristan and Isolde s addiction to Cupid s opiate is surpassed by none. This is proven
by the trials Brangane endures, the disregard for Isolde s personal acts of treason, and also the blows
to Tristan s honor and loyalty to his uncle. Once Isolde has the epiphany that the killer of her Uncle
Morold is bathing in the next room, she is enraged. However, she is unable to extract revenge on
Tristan. Gottfried suggests this is due to a feminine instinct; simply, that Isolde was too refined to
commit such an uncouth act. This delicate characterization of Isolde would not last long. Upon the
accidental ingestion of the love potion,

restaurant. Based on the dress code of the guests, I guess this painting is in the past and those people
are lords. They are having conservation in the restaurant during leisure. It is noteworthy that some of
them wear heavy makeup.
Now, I will analysis this painting on three art elements and three principles of design. The most
significant element in this painting is color. Color acts as a vital role in many paintings. In this
painting, it depicted the atmosphere of the restaurant. Analyzing this painting as a whole picture, I
divided it into four corners evenly. The upper left corner is the group of people with two men at the
back. The upper right corner is the walls of the restaurant with two women. The hue of both upper
parts is tertiary blue green mixed up with little secondary orange. Despite this, blue green is still the
predominant color on both upper parts. The bottom left corner is the railing. The right bottom corner is
the floor of the restaurant and the woman with neutral black clothing. In regard to the details, the
outline of the railing is in tertiary red orange and the railing is in secondary orange. Among the group
of people, the men at the left and the woman in the middle wear primary red and tertiary red violet
clothing respectively. The major hue of left bottom part is secondary orange, tertiary red orange, and

Components in the Formation of Different Medicines Essay...
Chemistry has affected people for years. It will always be a major component in how life progresses.
We use chemistry every day when we cook. We use it every day when simply brushing our teeth.
Toothpaste contains Fluorine. It is a very intense aggressive and reactive element. It is the substance in
toothpaste that whitens our teeth. As you can see there are many things that chemistry contributes to.
Chemistry is a big component of the formation of different medicines. Without chemistry medicines I
have had to take would not even exist. I recently had to take medicine called Ativan or also known as
Lorazepam. Lorazepam is a medicine that comes from a group called benzodiazepines. It is a

I just wanted to stop and relax but I felt like I could not. Anxiety is a strong emotion that takes over
many people when they become overwhelmed with tasks or issues in their lives. Without chemistry I
would have not been able to have the medicine that I needed.
There are many other ways to cope with anxiety than medicine. However some people don t have the
time so medicine can be a really amazing thing. Some people including my brothers went to
therapists. Some do yoga, breathing methods, and just talking to people. Anxiety can get out of hand
quickly. When It gets out of hand it can become a very dangerous cycle. Although Lorazepam can be
very helpful, it can also harm people. Just like every other medicine it has many possible side effects.
It can cause depression, hypotension, shortness in breath, dizziness, and weakness. It can also cause
severe respiratory failure. If you take it when you are pregnant it can kill the baby and cause issues
when it comes to breast feeding. It has many issues however it is usually not fatal when people
overdose. Ativan can be a highly aggressive and addictive drug. It is recommended to only take only
for two to four weeks. The medicine stays in your system for eighteen to thirty six hours. Withdrawals
from the medicine can cause seizures, insomnia and more intense anxiety. It can be injected, ingested
in pill form, or worn in form of skin patches. The majority of people that get

  • 2. My Experience in the Military Marcus Pennie Written Communication September 9, 2012 My darkest hour was also the moment I became a man. When all my years of training, all the blood, sweat, and tears of running, aiming, skills training, and hand to hand combat had finally been put to the test. My first kill. It wasn t a proud moment but it was one on necessity and choice that I ve played over and over again and I still get the same result. It would have gone exactly the same. September 21st 1999, 1327 Zulu time. We were flying over Almaty, Kazakhstan. The rattling of the POS tin can they call an airplane was really making me queasy. Man less than an hour before we land. It s not coming soon enough. I thought. Then came the dreaded command that started the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was holding up until the pain from the slice began to overwhelm me and I felt woozy. I felt like this was it, I am going to lose my grip and this knife was about to go into my face. I quickly thought of everything that would follow and everything that has happened to me up to that point in an instance. Then as if a blessing from God, the door burst open and I redirected my focus to the door. So did he, which was his mistake. I quick glanced back at him and noticed two things. His eyes were off of me and his push weakened just for a second. The only second I needed. I pivoted my upper half to my right and pulled his arm towards where my head once was, jamming the knife into the hardwood floor. I brought my right elbow into his head and he toppled over. I reached for my side arm, rolled away, up on to one side, aimed and fired twice. My pistol and eyes both rose up and to the left to the doorway and fired three more times. Both enemies, cancelled. I took what seemed like an eternity to curse, catch my breath and regroup myself. I stood up and realized the fight wasn t over. I still had to make it to my unit. I made my way through the apartment I earlier crashed into, out into the hallway and back up to the roof. I noticed insurgents on the rooftop directly behind me making half ass shots at me. • 3. Paternity Leave Benefits Paternity Leave As of 2015 less than 20% of employers offer paid paternity leave. This low number is staggering when you look at all the benefits that come from a new father being at home with his newborn. The benefits to employers alone should send that number skyrocketing. Paid paternity leave promotes better child cognitive development, allows for faster recovery for the mother, and makes for better employees. Paid paternity leave should be a benefit provided by every company in the United States for all full time employees and would prove to be a profit for the company. Fathers attach to their babies in the way similar to mothers and at the same time, making it important for new dads to spend time as much as possible with their newborns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows employees to take up to 12 weeks of un paid leave. It helps balance work and family life without the fear of losing their jobs and benefits. The leave is easy to get if you are a full time employee of a company that has more than 50 employees, has 20 or more work weeks, and you live within 75 miles of your job. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against an employee that has taken leave, but Federal law requires at least 30 days notice to the employer. If your work doesn t offer paid paternity leave this is one option you have. Another is to use up any vacation and/or PTO. When you put everything together you can see that the long term financial benefits of paid paternity leave greatly outweigh the short term economic costs for any employer. Letting the father create such a close bond with the child produces such enormous benefits it is inconceivable that more employers aren t getting on board with it. I hope that in the future more employers will see the financial, emotional, and mental benefits and incorporate paid leave for new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, if one person believes that stealing is evil, another might believe that stealing is good if it s for a good purpose. So it depends on the person s views. When a newborn is brought into this world you tend to see purity and simplicity in his eyes. Mencius a Chinese philosopher said Think about water: if you slap it, you can make it jump over your head; and if you push and shove, you can make it stay on a mountain. But what does this have to do with the nature of water? It s only responding to the forces around it. It s like that for people too: you can make them evil, but that says nothing about human nature (Man s nature is good 6). • 5. Jfk Inaugural Speech Essay: Language plays a crucial role in the development of power. Presidents in the United States use rhetorical devices to emphasize a specific point and to make it clear to the audience. President Thomas Jefferson is a democratic republican and he won the election of 1800; there he presented his inauguration speech, this speech had significance because it was first time in the history when the power shifted from one party to the other. Martin Luther King, Jr. served as an American minister and played an active role in the civil rights movement. To further increase his liability in the civil rights movement, he presented I have a dream speech that improved his position in the movement by mentioning equality rights that all men deserve. John F. Kennedy delivered his speech during his inauguration tried to develop relations with Soviet Union and end Cold War. All the speeches delivered by most known personalities used rhetorical devices such as allusion and repetition to make their message memorable in the hearts of the citizens of America. The most known personalities used allusion to lend authority to an idea and make association with a term that the reader is familiar with. John F. Kennedy alludes to Isaiah to make his claim stronger and introduce a familiar concept to the audience (John F. Kennedy). Isaiah is a familiar concept to the Jews as they worship him as God. The author alludes to Isaiah in his speech to support and convey his claim that all the states should unite. Alluding to Isaiah allows the reader to connect with a familiar concept. He further improves his claim by showing that it is the command of the Isaiah to possess no hatred and stay in Unity. John F. Kennedy is referring to the Soviet Union and Communists that they must stop fighting and avoid the Cold War that was taking place during his presidency. Martin Luther King, Jr. alludes to the Constitution to support his claim about the equality to African Americans. Constitution is the document used by the government officials to govern the country. By alluding to Constitution , the rhetor is providing evidence to his argument that African Americans should receive privileges that Americans receive. It also helps the reader ... • 6. Society Versus the Individual Essay Society Versus the Individual The adage, the proper study of man is man , aside from its obvious gendered exclusion, describes mounds of writing and thought about society and its components. Debates rage on in virtually all fields with variations on the same theme: society versus the individual. In the writings of Durkheim, Sahlins, and Foucault, the individual as coherent, persistent, and in control dissolves and is subsumed, to different extents, within society. For the first two, society dominates the individual to a large degree but not entirely. For Foucault, however, the entire terms of the debate seem meaningless, as both are constructs of one larger mode of discursivity: the power/knowledge game that creates the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously, these philosophical distinctions do not necessarily preclude subjectivity or make one feel any less free , but the move is important strategically. If the subject is, while not an illusion (Foucault 29), fabricated by discourse, it becomes a politicized space that can have various destructive or productive effects. Beyond being merely arbitrary, Foucault offers some solid reasons the individual may be politically undesirable. On the one hand, the concept of an individual subject with relative autonomy, coherence, persistence, and so forth is far from internally cogent. If the subject is partially determined, and partially free, the theory doesn t say much at all because free remains undefined. If the freedom has behavior, patterns, or rules then it is not free, but if it is random, it is just as meaningless to call it free. Further, if the subject is only free in certain cases, but is not free to determine what those cases are, then it cannot control its own freedom, and is thus again unfree. Even if the self were considered entirely free, which can only be established of course by non falsifiable decrees such as the Sartrean insistence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(2014) Employment activities and experiences of adults with high functioning Autism and Asperger s Disorder. Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 44(10), 2440 2449. doi:10.1007/s10803 014 2112 z Using a subset of data from the Autism Spectrum Australia study done in 2013, this report examines the employment activities and outcomes of 130 adults diagnosed with Asperger s Disorder and High Functioning Autism. The study looked at several outcome areas including their current occupation, skill level, type of job contract, work hours, job support to find work, job support at work, and their positive and negative experiences of employment. Based on this examination, the authors found that adults with AD and HFA continued to struggle with workplace difficulties and a lack of understanding and support, even if they showed a capacity and willingness to work. The charming, loving, brother in law of Cornelia Brown, and probably the best father figure in Clare Hobbs life. The reason I enjoy his character so much is because he reminds me of my mom. I know this seems weird because Teo is much younger than my mother and a guy, but it s true. The reason I say this is because both Teo and my mom share a quality that I admire in both: the ability to give great advice and comfort. Yutaka Nakamura in 1979, working under RTRI (Railway Technical Research Institute) of JNR, developed a new idea for EEW system and called it UrEDAS, Urgent Earthquake Detection and Alarm System. The main UrEDAS functions are the estimation of magnitude and location, vulnerability assessment and issuing warnings within a few seconds using initial P wave motion at a single station. UrEDAS calculates parameters such as back azimuth, predominant frequency for magnitude evaluation and vertical to horizontal ratio for discrimination between P and S waves, using the amplitude for each sample in realtime. UrEDAS can issue a P wave warning with a processing time of just three seconds after detecting the P wave. After the 1995 Kobe earthquake, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As vb = ab/2πF. The dominant frequency (F) and amplification factor (A) are directly related to the seismic motion applied to the train body. The dynamic characteristics of the trains are known in general. F and A are estimated from F g and Ag for a train resting on the ground surface. For a train resting on a structure, these values are termed as Fsg and Asg for both structures and ground. Site characteristics are reflected by the Kd value. In the case of a large Kd value, work rate (w) and the possibility of derailment/overturn are also large. The Kd value was therefore considered as an index of vulnerability of trains to derailment overturn. As previously mentioned, Kd values for a train derailment/overturning are directly related to the power of earthquake motion. It has also been clearly shown that there is a strong relation between K value and damage. Starting from equation (3), two new parameters PI (P wave Index) and DI (Damage Intensity) were proposed. The earthquake destructiveness is estimated with the help of the power density PD (W/kg) of the earthquake vibration which is calculated from the inner product of the acceleration vector a (cm/s2) and the velocity vector v ... • 10. A Report On The Snowden Leaks Essay 2.2 The Snowden Leaks 2.2.1 History The government has a responsibility to protect its citizens from terrorism. Since 9/11, this threat has been constantly growing and the government has taken steps to respond to this threat. The first of these steps was to increase resources dedicated to identify and prosecute known and suspect terrorists and would be terrorists to try and gain more information about possible attacks, and serve justice to those guilty of terrorism. The next step was to restructure existing anti terror organizations (such as the FBI) and to develop new tools, mostly in the form of legislation, to help combat this growing threat. However, while implementing these measures, the government also made efforts to protect the rights and privacy of Americans (https://www.justice.gov/archive/opa/pr/2008/September/08 nsd 807.html : Justice Department, 2008). However, recent terrorist strikes such as the San Bernardino attack have been carried out following the widespread availability of encrypted devices for consumers which makes it harder for the government to collect information regarding these attacks from first hand evidence without support from the companies involved in creating these products. This cooperation between the government and the tech companies was undermined by the leak of documents detailing mass surveillance of millions of people both inside and outside of America by the National Security Agency which led to companies feeling manhandled by ... Many TCKs are moved from country to country so often that they have no ties to any particular culture, but rather find a sense of belonging to every culture, even ones they don t live in. I was very little when I realized I wasn t like every other little Turkish girl, mostly because I wasn t Turkish. At first, being American was horrible and uncomfortable. I felt judged simply because of where my parents were from. Eventually, I realized that I was not really American. Nor am I French, or Turkish. It is definitely unlikely that everyone at my French school seamlessly switched to Turkish in my presence. After a brief explanation that they most likely did not speak Turkish to me, I was appeased. In second grade, I remember my difference becoming relevant once again. Suddenly, I wasn t a little French girl, as I had grown accustomed to thinking of myself. Instead, I realized that my distant nationality was more relevant than I had previously thought. I was the American in a French school, and that was a bad thing to be. I clearly remember my teacher openly mocking Americans. Initially, I thought nothing of it, I laughed with the class, not necessarily realizing that I was American, that I was exactly who my teacher was mocking. Even though I didn t really identify as an American, I knew that everyone else thought of me as the American. I felt as though everyone else was making fun of me personally. I learned to hide my nationality amongst my French friends. When asked, I would merely tell people that I was born in Turkey, hoping they would assume that was my nationality and move on. Thankfully, I was also a part of a community of ex patriots, and I had many friends who were also of American nationality. We would often talk about the negative stereotypes we face as Americans in school, and express our frustration of not feeling like we belonged to any culture. • 12. John Donne s Sonnet About Death John Donne s sonnet about death focuses on the popular opinion (then and now) of death and the process of dying. To Donne, death, a necessary passage to eternity, is pleasant and better than sleep, and many people give death more power and honor than he deserves. Because of its pleasure, Donne theorizes that death releases all pain and grief and is associated with only positive emotions. On the other hand, a rock song released in 2012 called The Fighter written by The Fray discusses the fear and pain associated with the experience of death. John Donne s tenth sonnet explores an attitude of death that people perceive it to be and what death really is according to ideas of Christian eternity and pleasure. These attitudes of death that Donne discusses in his sonnet oppose the attitudes of death in The Fray s song which portrays death as painful and frightening with affects of loneliness and despair. Donne s sonnet begins with an octet that addresses and describes Death as being incapable, pleasant, and powerless. To Donne, death is incapable of fully killing someone, for what death perceives as a person s end is only sleep in terms of Christianity. Sleep is a luxury and a necessity, so it follows that death is a luxury and a necessity in order to enter into eternal life (Chippchipp1). Donne admonishes death, telling it to not be proud or think that it has the power to kill someone, because if one holds to the Christian idea of eternity there is nothing to fear in death. ... • 14. Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes Don Quixote The Ballet performance Don Quixote is based on the worldwide known novel Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally performed by the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow and choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now days there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has adopted this performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin American taste with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the Fort Lauderdale Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don Quixote in three main acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio, an impoverished barber young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a Gamache. Gamache is a rich old toreador and is willing to pay Lorenzo, Kitri s father, for marrying her. In this act Don Quixote and Sancho Panza arrive to the town and try to protect Kitri from her father and Gamache. Finally they Kitri and Basilio escape from the town with Don Quixote and Sancho, but Gamache and Lorenzo are going behind them. Following the first act comes the second where the characters arrive into a gypsy encampment, the gypsies dance for Kitri and Basilio to welcome them but when Gamache and Lorenzo arrive they confuse them and help the lovers to escape again. The Egyptian civilization was very fortunate in terms that their environment was very dependable unlike Greece. The annual flooding of the Nile river renewed the soil and brought about fertile black soil that in turn resulted in them being the richest agricultural region. Egyptians figured out that the land beyond the river was inhabitable and the environment was not dependable. Realizing this they built their civilization around the Nile river and used the flooding to their advantage. However, unlike the Egyptians who settled around the river the Greeks built many cities upon mountain strongholds. For example, acropolis of Athens is known for being the fortified palace on top of the mountain. Like many early civilizations, both the Egyptians and Greeks had a social pyramid that didn t give much freedom to the people. In Egypt, the Pharaoh his family were known as completely apart from everyone else. There was the small majority of nobles who served priests and also the elite who were below the pharaoh and ... • 17. King Arthur Hero Medieval literature has fascinated me even when I was a child. Something about tales tales of epic quests to recover an ancient artifact or mystical power, or even to take back a Holy Land, these are just a few examples of pieces of literature that excite me. The one thing that excites me more than the quests, are the knights and heroes that are on this voyage. They are so amazing because they are such a diverse group of characters all with different personalities, back stories, and life goals, all bound together as a team to achieve their quest. People like Robin Hood, Beowulf, and the one that stands out to me, King Arthur. King Arthur was...well a King during the fifth while most wars against the Anglo Saxon tribes were still going on. ... Sir Percival was King Arthur s most loyal knight, and proved his worth to the king by retrieving the Excalibur, the sword King Arthur used in many of his battles, from a lake guarded by a group of gnomes. Sir Percival was also the last of the three knights in the search for the Holy Grail and ended up becoming the holder, or defender if you will, of the Grail. This story however, has many different renditions between cultures and countries, but usually they all end with in the some way the Holy Grail ending up in his possession and him serving as the keeper of it. Sir Lancelot was King Arthur s best friend and my second favorite knight. He was the only knight who was able to defeat King Arthur in a jousting match, but even then the two were extremely close to one another until Sir Lancelot betrayed his friend s trust by falling in love with the Guinevere. This occurred when Sir Lancelot save Queen Guinevere from an abduction and the two began to have a secret affair. Eventually King Arthur discovered the two silent affection, but his love for his wife and best friend ended up having him spare the two. He lived the ends of his life as a lonely hermit. The last knight is Sir Bedivere, my favorite knight overall. He was one of the first knights to join the court and served King Arthur to the very end of his reign. He even helped King Arthur in the fight to take back Camelot, losing one of his hands in the process. In the fight King Arthur as previously mentioned is wounded to the point of near death. In this process the Excalibur ended up in Bedivere s possession, though with all the power at his disposal, King Arthur asks him to return the sword back into the lake where it was originally found so it s magical powers may heal his wounds and bring his strength back. Although I believe all three arguments cited by the author are important, this week s readings and discussion emphasized the third reason in particular. Through interviews and extensive data analysis the phenomenological study will aim to summarize what the individuals have experienced and how they have experienced it to arrive at the essence of the issue under investigation (Moustakas, 1994 as cited by Creswell, 2013, p. 79). Given the issue, transcendental phenomenology appears to be a desirable approach to gain a better understanding of the issue due to bracketing and its aim at perceiving a phenomenon new, fresh, and for the first time (Creswell, 2013, p. 80). Conducting a case study appears equally appropriate. Since case studies consist of qualitative approaches in which the investigator explores a real life, contemporary bounded system or multiple systems over time, through detailed, in depth data collection involving multiple sources of information, and reports a case description and case themes one could emphasize the changes in democratic participation as well as the motivators (Creswell, 2013, p. 97). Furthermore, case studies provide a wide array of approaches, including both quantitative and qualitative elements as well as explanatory, exploratory, and descriptive directions that could be used to investigate the proposed question (Creswell, 2013). The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful Shyam Rangrej and Kushang Gonawala Abstract In recent years, much research has been devoted to the exploration of DHTs; on the other hand, few have simulated the construction of architec ture. In this position paper, we demonstrate the study of simulated annealing. Our focus in this paper is not on whether the Internet can be made certifiable, semantic, and optimal, but rather on motivating an analysis of write ahead logging (INK). 1 Introduction Recent advances in stable modalities and au tonomous epistemologies are rarely at odds with access points. The notion that physicists collude with A* search is usually excellent. On a sim ilar note, though such a hypothesis is always a confirmed purpose, it fell in line with our expec tations. The development of voice over IP would greatly amplify the simulation of the Ethernet. Motivated by these observations, the under standing of randomized algorithms and agents have been extensively developed by scholars. The basic tenet of this method is the deploy ment of IPv6. In addition, we allow random ized algorithms [23] to provide self learning the ory without the compelling unification of sensor networks and A* search. Essay about Sonnet to Science by Edgar Allen Poe Sonnet to Science by Edgar Allen Poe Edgar Allen Poe s Sonnet to Science is an example of how the structure of a poem can both aid and hinder the poet in communicating his or her thoughts. Usually, when the poet chooses to structure his poem in the form of a sonnet, he is, through his speaker, asking a question and reaching an answer. In this poem, however, the speaker, probably a young poet, questions Science but reaches no conclusion. However, in this particular poem, the speaker is disdainful to the subject, Science. He angrily accuses Science of preying like a vulture upon the poet s heart. The speaker seems to have personal resentment against Science, because he names himself as suffering a loss at the hands of fact and reality along with the mythological Diana, Hamadryad, and Naiad. In the first line of the poem, Science! true daughter of Old Time thou art!, the speaker appears to be respectful toward Science, and the reader might mistake this poem for a tribute to the subject. However, the tone immediately changes when he describes Science as having peering eyes in line 2. This is the reader s first indication that the speaker holds contempt for the daughter of Old Time. This layer is also responsible for data encryption and data compression. However, recent years have seen the release of animated films that explore significantly more adult themes and thought provoking ideas. Perhaps the most confronting example of adult themes in an animated film is in 2016 s Zootopia . The film forces viewers to think about concepts such as racial segregation, nature vs. nurture and the debilitating effect of stereotyping. Although Zootopia features anthropomorphic animals, it is easy to draw a connection between the film s prey vs. predator narrative and racial divide in our own society. In essence, this paper will outline two significant themes related to crime and the effect of media explored in the film. Most notably, the nature of crime and criminality is explored thoroughly. Specifically, the effect limited opportunities and racial stereotyping can have on promoting an individual down a path of crime. Particular attention will be given to a scene in which a youthful fox wishes to join a prey dominant Boy Scout troop, only to be rejected and humiliated because he is a predator. Furthermore, the concept of a moral panic caused by media news reporting is displayed excellently in a montage scene in which prey are scared of predators as the media reports that aggression and criminality is in their nature. Finally, I will critique how these issues are communicated in a neo noir ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The demographic transition was essentially a result of a decrease in chronic infectious diseases like tuberculosis, syphilis, diphtheria, measles, dysentery, and typhoid fever. The wage dispersion evidence suggests that the middle of the 19th century is an appropriate date for the start of modern convergence in the Atlantic economy.
