Transformation In A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol was first published in London on the 19th of December 1843,
the novella was instantly popular and still is to this day. Dickens inspiration for the short story
seems to come from his childhood experiences and his sympathy for the poor. In the story a
miserable old man, Ebenezer Scrooge, is shown the error of his ways and what will come of it if
he doesn t make drastic changes. Various ghosts and spirits slowly transform him into a kinder
more pleasant man. A Christmas Carolis a powerful novella that uses symbolism like the children
Ignorance and Want, Scrooge s transformation, and Scrooges nephew Fred, to reinforce
significant themes like social isolation, rebirth, and family. Dickens wanted to show the theme
of rebirth through Scrooges transformation. Scrooge is changed from a humpy old man to a
kinder nicer man, each stave represents a step in the transformation process. In stave one, two
men come into Scrooge s shop and ask for a donation to help poor people in need, Scrooge gives
them no money and asks why these people are not in prisons or Union workhouses (Dickens 7).
He feels by paying his taxes he has done enough to help the poor. Scrooge goes on to say If they
rather die...they had better do it and decrease the surplus population (Dickens 7). But in stave 3,
Scrooge sees that Tiny Tim, a young innocent boy, will pass away in the future. Scrooge begs the
second of the three spirits to spare his life, but the spirit says If

Leadership Communication Skills And Effective Leadership
Final Paper
Introduction
Michael Z. Hackman and Craig E. Johnson, co authors of Leadership Communication Skills (1995),
underline leadership as the influential connectivity between humans through the effective
understanding and application of symbols and behavior regulation (p. 428 429). Essentially,
leadership stands possible as motivating others through channels which lead to success, and is
accomplished through meaningful, strategic interaction. Effective leadership, while fundamentally
requires technical knowledge, motivates, develops, and guides others through adept social / people
skills. At the core, leadership is about two way interconnection with others both in self awareness of
how language, behaviors, and actions impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This collision of cultures and social norms stand unique from any in our past. Strong leaders have a
keen sense for connecting with, communicating, and behaving in a manner that allows the best of
all worlds to come forth and prosper. Alon Lisak, Miriam Erez, Yang Sui, and Cynthia Lee authors
of The positive role of global leaders in enhancing multicultural team innovation (2016) for the
Journal of International Business Studies highlight:
The global identity of a leader represents the leader s sense of belonging to and identification with
multicultural teams... leaders with high global identity convey a sense of inclusion and recognize
team cultural diversity to be an asset and therefore, they foster shared team innovation goals. (p.
656.
As an individual who has always been sensitive to the needs and hopes of others, while personally
having a potpourri of ethnic and humble blue collar genes in my family line, my results of a high
score in communicating across cultures stands affirmed by what others have expressed. To further
develop these skills, however, experience in an international assignment would expand and solidify
these capabilities.

Department of labor, Bureau of labor Statistics states that a geoscientist analyses the Earth s
physical aspects like its composition, structure, and processes. Their responsibilities include
planning field studies, studying aerial photographs, directing laboratory tests, making geologic
maps, and arranging written scientific reports. Geoscientists use a range of tools to perform their
job, such as hammers and x rays. They will often oversee technicians and coordinate with other
scientists (What Geoscientists Do section).
What Level of Education and Special Training is Required?
For most entry level positions, Geoscientists need at least a bachelor s degree. Some, however,
begin their career with a master s degree. For most basic research and college teaching positions, a
Ph.D. is necessary. A degree in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, engineering, or computer
science is accepted if it includes geology coursework, but a degree in geoscience is favored by
employers. Geoscience programs include courses in mineralogy, petrology, and structural geology.
Employers prefer and seek applicants who have also gained field and laboratory experience (How

The Chinese Inventions
The Chinese invented many things in their time and paved the way for many new inventions
throughout the world. The Chinese were more advanced than most countries. They invented the
compass, which allowed for further travel aboard ships. They even knew that iron had magnetic
properties. So this proves that the Chinese were advanced. These inventions are still used today and
were adopted from the Chinese. The Europeans adopted inventions like the crossbow and the gun.
The most important inventionfrom the Chinese is paper. Paper still heavily influences mankind
today. Paper has been around long before we even thought. Paper was made from bamboo fibers at
the time. The Chinese even had a paper maker. In document two the text reads,

Summary Of The Fires Of Jubilee
In The Fires of Jubilee, Stephen B. Oates takes the story of Nat Turner s slave rebellion and
insurrection attempt in Southampton County, Virginia. With detail account from Thomas R. Gray
s interview with Nat, and historical eye witness testimonies, Oates really brings Nat Turner s
upbringing and his fierce rebellion to life. From the story that you get from the South after Nat s
rebellion was one of harmony between slaves and their masters. That Virginia and the rest of the
South was appalled that something like this could happen. From blaming everything from
abolitionist to Quakers, Southerners never wanted to admit that the institution of slaverywas the

Nat while in jail learned of the fates of his Lieutenants . All were tried and hanged, this too would

In the aftermath of the rebellion, Virginia legislatures used the colonization bill against free

Comparing The Works Of Bruckner And Richard Wagner
ruckner wrote the first version of the symphony in 1873. In September 1873, before the work was
finished, Bruckner visited Richard Wagner, whom he had first met in 1865 at the premiere of
Tristan und Isolde in Munich.[4] Bruckner showed both his Second and Third symphonies to
Wagner, asking him to pick one he preferred. To Bruckner s delight, Wagner chose the Third, and
Bruckner dedicated the symphonyto the master he highly respected. After getting home, Bruckner
continued to work on the symphony, finishing the finale on 31 December 1873.[5]

Parenting And Strict Parenting Style
Every single parent around the world has their own parenting style and techniques, but there are
two common base types of parenting anywhere in the world, strict and lenient. Strict parents tend
to be more demanding of their children, while a lenient parent will be more flexible. Which
parenting style is more appropriate for children? I believe there s no right answer to this question. A
lack of strict parentingcan lead children to be more irresponsible or indifferent about life choices
and matters regarding their education. A lenient parent can raise a joyful child, but if leniency is
too consistent it can eventually shape a misbehaved or spoiled child, or in the worst scenario, a
juvenile delinquent. Some folks will argue that either way must be picked to raise a child. I believe
otherwise, there should be a with an equilibrium of both parenting styles regardless of their
ethnicity. Any child could be successful without the deprivation of common joyful activities that
children should experience at their age.
Firstly, some parenting styles will prevent children to enjoy from common childhood activities in
order to solely focus on school and extracurricular activities. They would prohibit children to
have playdates, play computer games, watch TV, etc. These parents will prevent the goods of
childhood, they believe that being completely strict will raise a successful child in the future.
However, I believe children shouldn t be deprived for common childhood activities to satisfy
those qualities. For instance, according to Powell s article where he describes his parenting
style towards his daughter, She goes out to play with the kids in our neighborhood. And she
watches movies. In fact, one of the reasons Abby s English is so good is that she spends time
watching The Lion King and Toy Story. That s more freedom than Chua s kids were allowed,
according to her book. Powell believes that his child can be able to do well in school without the
need of depriving his child from things children do at their age such as watching movies. On the
other hand, Chua s remarked about her daughters that, Well, I can tell them, because I ve done it.
Here are some things my daughters, Sophia and Louisa, were never allowed to

Separation of Power
It should be remembered that the notion of the doctrine is in the assumptions that the three organs
of the government and its functions should be distinguishable from one another. The idea of
abandoning the notion of the doctrine means all functions of the government can be performed by
one organ for example executive takes all government functions like enacting the law, interpreting
the law, provides people s welfare, determines the rights of the people.
In our opinion, we do not wish to abandon the doctrine of separation of power but however, this
notion shall follow the Montesquieu approach as he provides for a separation of power that aims at

The Characters Of Master Eps By Edwin Epp
Out of all Northup s masters, Master Epps has to be the worse. He s a cruel, rude, selfish man
who cares for no one but himself. Although others may say the contrary, I believe making good
first expressions is always important, and Edwin Epps made a horrible first impression. The second
Northup arrived, Master Epps already had him performing difficult tasks around the plantation.
These jobs can range from picking cotton on a blistering hot day to carrying heavy metals back
and from the house. Edwin Epps, in my eyes, is a very abusive master, although beating slaves is
the correct thing to do, he tends to take it to an extreme level. He beats them and strangles them
for whatever reason, although they may not be doing anything wrong. If I were a slave and if I
worked for Edwin Epps, himself, I m pretty sure I ll be dead. Not for doing the work incorrectly,
but for talking back when I knew I couldn t. Instead of leaving the slaves to perish, he would use
his own hands to beat them, to feel the presumptuous thrill running through their bare flesh. It
seems like hell to an outsider, but I m sure it gets better once you re experiencing it or does it?
There was one thing Northup enjoyed that lifted his spirits, and that was looking at Miss Patsey.
The way he described her, made the readers think that he wanted to devour her in just one look. To
me personally; seems as if Northup was describing a dog instead of Patsey. Using foul language
such as, faithful, loyal, and

Comedy In The Play A Midsummer Night s Dream
They Way Insults Promote Comedy In a quote by Madeline Kahn she says, Comedy is created
when someone is trying very earnestly to do what he feels is the right thing to do at that moment.
She is saying that comedy is usually created almost by accident. We try to do the right thing, but it
does not always work out in the way we expect it to and the outcome is what makes the situation
funny. In the play A Midsummer s Night Dream there are many elements of comedy that
Shakespeare uses to communicate what he is trying to present within the play. These elements
include mistaken identities, turning things upside down, wit and wordplay, multiple intertwining
plots, the element of marriage, insults and burns, suspension of natural laws, language,... Show

People find it funny because he insulted her and she did not even get upset. She loves him so
much that she does not even care when he insults her, she believes him to be joking and takes it
as sarcasm. Helena wants to be with Demetrius desperately and he does not want anything to do
with her. These lines would be the equivalent of an individual saying you are ugly to another
individual and have them reply with you are not and will never be ugly. It is funny and slightly
ironic because they are just stating the opposite of one another. Shakespeare added this to show
how much Helena was smitten over Demetrius and how much he absolutely loathed her. No
matter what he says to her she still loves and cares for him while he just wants her to go away
and because of that it gives the perfect opportunity for Demetrius to keep insulting her because no
matter what he says to her she takes it in stride. Which allows Shakespeare to have Demetrius
keep insulting Helena. These insults keep people laughing and entertained throughout the play.
Shakespeare uses insult comedy to show a character s true colors and personality. Most of the
insults that are said are directed at Hermia. They are mostly directed at her because at the time
they were said by Demetrius and Lysander who were both a under a love potion that made them
believe that they loved Helena. It is easy to see how truly

In the Gospel of Thomas verse 55 and John 19:25 27, they both tell a contrasting notion of Jesus
and family. Thomas tells of hardship of being able to hate one s own family members to be able to
be worthy of Jesus. John tells of a different story of Jesus having his mother and beloved disciple be
united as a family. Both stories provide an idea on how Jesusbelieved in how to go about following
him and following their families. In the Gospelof Thomas, the notion of giving up what we love

Analysis Of Red Dog
Australian Film allows the rest of the world to have an insight into our way of life, our
communities and our land. Australian film usually provides a hard working and hardy
stereotype who lives in the outback and takes pride in his mates, and for a lot of the country, this
is mostly true. The typical Australian is a laid back, hard working community member who
prides the relationship they have with their mates, who may not even be a person. The saying a
man s best friend is his dog is incredibly true for many, especially Australians, where dogs can be
found in all walks of life. At least, this is Kriv Stender s perspective of Australian identity, seen in
his 2011 film Red Dog.
Red Dog tells the story of a dog who wandered around the outback before settling down in Dampier,
a mining town of north Western Australia. There he finds himself a home and a family, within the
close knit community. This reflects Stender s perspective of the Australian identity, and what
qualities are valued within Australian culture.
The environment within the film shows a vast, dry and barren land, coated in a layer of red dust
that is iconic within Australian film, and builds onto the identity. This is red dirt is so rich in its
colour, and this can be seen in the scene where Red Dog earns his name, after being coated in the
dust while sitting on the back of a trailer as it travelled across the land. The wide angle camera
shots used in the scenes prior to this show the large emptiness of the

Patriarchy And The Challenge Of Feminism Essay
Judith Bennett is a Medievalist Historian who has focused much of her research on English
/European women and feminist history (1 2). In her book History Matters: Patriarchy and the
Challenge of Feminism, she argues that feminism and history, specifically women s, need to be
more closely linked. This link, she argues, comes from taking theories and methods from one field
and applying them to the other in order to create a more indepth analysis of both. Bennett states in
her introduction that this text ...builds steadily from problem to solution to elaboration, and though
this statement holds, due to the brevity of this book, many aspects of this text are not well defined,
explored, or analyzed (4 5).
Throughout this text, Bennett uses feminist language, and indeed the word feminism without
properly defining the term. It is true that this book is aimed at an audience that is likely to known
these terms. Yet, by not giving a definition Bennett opens the floor for radically different
interpretations based upon where the reader s definition falls on the spectrum, from hating men and
wanting female superiority to wanting equality and justice for all regardless of sex, that defines the
various schools of feminism. Despite this lack of clarity, many of the arguments that Bennett makes
are still valid. Specifically, Bennett notes that the language of feminist and women s history has
changed from the biting and often uncomfortable rhetoric of 1970s feminism to more neutral

2.1.1Introduction to Customer Satisfaction:
Customer Satisfaction is one of the main topics rises recently. Before years there was a revelation
of a customer service to concentrate on customer, to treat with him in a better way, to please and
fulfill his demands of the customer. In order to achieve that, researchers analyzed the customer
population then took random samples and after that generalized the results and came with
procedures to treat and please the customers. The first thing is spark in the satisfaction of the

Cheefy defined it as the extent to which a customers expectations of product quality, service quality,

The reality of Customer Satisfaction is in the eyes of the beholder the customer. And all about how

According to Business Dictionary definition it is the degree of satisfaction provided by the good or
service of a company as measured by the number of repeat customers.
Or it is the number of customers or percentage of total customers, whose reported experience with
a firm, its products, or its services (ratings) exceeds specified satisfaction goals. (Paul W. and
others, 2010).
Customer satisfaction can be experienced in a variety of situations and connected to both goods and
services. It is a highly personal assessment that is greatly affected by customer expectations.
Satisfaction also is based on the customer s experience of both contacts with the organization and
personal outcomes.
Some researchers define a satisfied customer within the private sector as one who receives

authors, William J. McShea and John H. Rappole, go in depth to how white tailed Deer affect the
abundance and distribution of vertebrate species in Virginia. The authors hypothesized that White
Tailed Deerinfluence the arrangement of winged creatures and warm blooded animals indirectly
through changing of the natural surroundings and specifically through the utilization of shared
nourishment sorts. The authors tested this hypothesis by testing four different areas in Virginia
within the Shenandoah National Park, the National Zoo s Conservation and the Research Center in
Front Royal. In these areas, a collector, which had a mast collector,

Fossil Fuel Resources For Alternative Sources Of Energy Essay
Diminishing fossil fuel resources have prompted scientists and researchers to look for alternative
sources of energy. Though several alternative sources of energy have been identified, generation of
energy using combustion of fuels still remains the dominant source of energy globally [1].
In search for alternative fuels, biofuels have shown promising results to generate useful energy.
However, efficient atomization of some high viscosity biofuels to yield maximum useful energy
and minimise emissions is an area of research that has not been completely explored so far. As a
result, liquid atomization has drawn a lot of attention among researchers over the past few years [2].
Though several different types of atomization processes are used in the industry, twin fluid
atomization practices have been quite common and effective. Twin fluid atomization techniques can
be broadly classified into Air Blast (AB) atomization, Effervescent Atomization (EA), and Flow
Blurring (FB) atomization.
Amongst these, FB atomization technique is a very recently developed concept that has
demonstrated promising experimental results with high atomization efficiency. Researchers have
conducted experiments to understand the process of atomization in a FB injector as well as the
spray characteristics [2].
However, a computational model has not been developed so far to complement the outcomes from
practical experiments. This project was aimed at gaining further in depth understanding of a FB
injector

Gaining consent to record won t cover your transportation organization if you don t make it clear
how you will share and store audio files. Ideally, your company will advise all incoming callers
either through an automated IVR system or call center staff trained to answer each call with a
script that never varies. Financial considerations drive the decision to record, or not record
telephone call traffic. For one thing, the costs of winning a lawsuit can be almost as burdensome as
losing a legal challenge. Another key consideration is the impact an IVR may have on customer
satisfaction and personalized service. In the end, investing in integrated call capturing technology

solution that limits liability and can actually improve customer experiences and service if

A Never Ending Cycle
A Never Ending Cycle. Arguably, no other group in United States history has been as oppressed as
the American Indians. The United States Government has allowed unsettled tensions, poverty,
conflicting cultures, disease, and the inaction of the Bureau of Indian Affairs to affect the
educational opportunities of American Indians. There is no answer that will appease every group
involved in this problem. However, the United StatesGovernment can do significantly more than
they are doing to help remediate the problems of the educational system and fix some current issues
on the American Indian reservations in the United States. It is statistically proven from the Bureau
of Labor that the average person over the age of twenty five with a high school diploma makes
much more than the average person without a diploma. Further supporting this fact, the Bureau of
Labor s website shows that every level of higher education achieved gradually increases the person s
annual income ( Earnings and Unemployment ). Education allows people to expand their thought
and accept new ideas. Greater vocabulary teaches people new and more effective ways of
expressing their thoughts and emotions.Education teaches people how to think critically in this
modern world. Education is important as long as the audience receiving the education has the
ability and motivation to learn the materials. If American Indians achieve education, and it is

In the Iliad, a hero must be skilled in both fighting and speaking. Richard Martin notes that heroic
orators are performers who engage in formal speech acts that generally fall into genres of prayer,
lament, supplication, commanding, insulting, and remembering the past.7 Friedrich and Redfield
have expanded on the complexity of language in Homeric epic, arguing that the poet constructs
the style of speaking of a few individual characters to be different from that of other characters.89
Akhilleus speeches exhibit a particular oratory style, often shifting between present and past,
realism and imagination. This is shown in his answer to Odysseus in book 9: he employs a simile

Existentialism In In The Waiting Room And The Daydreams Of...
In both Elizabeth Bishop s In the Waiting Room and Clarice Lispector s The Daydreams of a
Drunk Woman , we are exposed to speakers who, through an epiphany of their role in existence,
discover a sense of self. With the geographic difference between Bishop and Lispector, and yet such
similar themes, it could be contended that their writings are evidence that both existentialismand
exploration of the image of one s self are major themes in twentieth century literary writing and
thought. Existentialism, a philosophical ideology conceptualized by Jean Paul Sarte, encapsulates
most thought processes where the individual is obliged to make a choice as though he were
choosing for all mankind (Arnold, Jean Paul Sarte: Overview). Put simply, Sarte s concept of
existentialism is the thought process by which humans find themselves existing, and the analysis
of their existence itself (Tulloch, Sartrian Existentialism). This analysis of existence found itself
in many writings during the twentieth century, and acts a driving force in both Bishop s In the
Waiting Room and Lispector s The Daydreams of a Drunk Woman . Elizabeth Bishop is a poet
native to Worcester. Her mother was widowed when Elizabeth was merely eight months old, and
as a result, slowly fell into a string of mental issues that would cause her to be institutionalized
until the end of her life. This resulted in Elizabeth moving in with her grandparents in Nova Scotia
at the age of eight before briefly moving back

Essay about Argentina
Argentina
Europeans arrived in the region with the 1502 voyage of Amerigo Vespucci. Spanish navigator
Juan Diaz de Solias visited what is now Argentina in 1516. Spain established a permanent colony
on the site of Buenos Aires in 1580. They further integrated Argentina into their empire following
the establishment of the Vice Royalty of Rio de la Plata in 1776, and Buenos Aires became a
flourishing port.
Buenos Aires formally declared independence from Spain on July 9, 1816. Argentines revere
General Jose de San Martin, who campaigned in Argentina, Chile, and Peru, as the hero of their
national independence. Following the defeat of the Spanish, centralist and federalist groups waged

New social and political forces were seeking political power. These included the modern military
and the labor movement that emerged from the growing urban working class.
The military ousted Argentina s constitutional government in 1943. Peron, then an army colonel,
was one of the coup s leaders, and he soon became the government s dominant figure as minister
of labor. Elections carried him to the presidency in 1946. He aggressively pursued policies
aimed at giving an economic and political voice to the working class and greatly expanded the
number of unionized workers. In 1947, Peron announced the first five year plan based on
nationalization and industrialization. He presented himself as a friend of labor and assisted in
establishing the powerful General Confederation of Labor (CGT). Peron s dynamic wife, Eva
Duarte de Peron, known as Evita (1919 1952), helped her husband develop his appeals to labor and
women s groups. Women obtained the right to vote in 1947.
Peron won reelection in 1952, but the military deposed him in 1955. He went into exile, eventually
settling in Spain. In the 1950s and 1960s, military and civilian administrations traded power. They
tried, with limited success, to deal with diminished economic growth and continued social and labor
demands. When military governments

I have dealt with many students in my lifetime. I have worked in schools over a decade in
different capacities, specifically as a teacher s assistant, special needs trainee substitute, counselor,

series of tools/interventions that have worked for me over the years. Of course, I would change
my interventions based on a student s individual need. For the purpose of this answer I will address
a student s disruptive behaviorby: remaining calm, responding with empathy and a positive attitude,

But it has been criticized all around as the one to the greatest positioning blunder as even the most
cost effective producers do not label their products as cheap. Here the cheap has a great social

Human psychology is that the motivation behind buying isn t to have a car, or a shampoo, or

Gender Roles In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
Madame Bovary is a novel by author Gustave Flaubert in which one woman s provincial
bourgeois life becomes an expansive commentary on class, gender, and social roles in nineteenth

and willful acts of indiscretion to reject a lifestyle imposed upon her by an oppressive patriarchal

Augustus And Julius Caesar
It is very interesting that Augustus was a special emperor and leader in both Roman Republic
and Empire because he was the last Republic leader and he was the first emperor. He was like a
bridge or a construction politician, leader and emperor between two regimes. But, how were the
regimes according to his time period? I need to focus on it before analyzing and evaluating Augustus
and his doings. Firstly, he was very clever that he got the ability to take advantage of every and
each situation regarding the state and political issues. It might be being one of Julius Caesars
relatives that he was Augustus uncle at first, and then Caesar adopted him. Maybe, he wanted to
make real his step father s wish to change the regime gradually. His first smart political movement
was the second triumvirate s setting up to bring the State back to the previous good years to govern.
But, after ten years triumvirate, it had some defects because of the members beneficial conflicts
with one another, and then Augustus confronted to Marcus Antonius and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus
because of their personal benefits and ambition, and he alone was most insistent that no one should

  • 2. Transformation In A Christmas Carol Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol was first published in London on the 19th of December 1843, the novella was instantly popular and still is to this day. Dickens inspiration for the short story seems to come from his childhood experiences and his sympathy for the poor. In the story a miserable old man, Ebenezer Scrooge, is shown the error of his ways and what will come of it if he doesn t make drastic changes. Various ghosts and spirits slowly transform him into a kinder more pleasant man. A Christmas Carolis a powerful novella that uses symbolism like the children Ignorance and Want, Scrooge s transformation, and Scrooges nephew Fred, to reinforce significant themes like social isolation, rebirth, and family. Dickens wanted to show the theme of rebirth through Scrooges transformation. Scrooge is changed from a humpy old man to a kinder nicer man, each stave represents a step in the transformation process. In stave one, two men come into Scrooge s shop and ask for a donation to help poor people in need, Scrooge gives them no money and asks why these people are not in prisons or Union workhouses (Dickens 7). He feels by paying his taxes he has done enough to help the poor. Scrooge goes on to say If they rather die...they had better do it and decrease the surplus population (Dickens 7). But in stave 3, Scrooge sees that Tiny Tim, a young innocent boy, will pass away in the future. Scrooge begs the second of the three spirits to spare his life, but the spirit says If ... Strict parents tend to be more demanding of their children, while a lenient parent will be more flexible. Which parenting style is more appropriate for children? I believe there s no right answer to this question. A lack of strict parentingcan lead children to be more irresponsible or indifferent about life choices and matters regarding their education. A lenient parent can raise a joyful child, but if leniency is too consistent it can eventually shape a misbehaved or spoiled child, or in the worst scenario, a juvenile delinquent. Some folks will argue that either way must be picked to raise a child. I believe otherwise, there should be a with an equilibrium of both parenting styles regardless of their ethnicity. Any child could be successful without the deprivation of common joyful activities that children should experience at their age. Firstly, some parenting styles will prevent children to enjoy from common childhood activities in order to solely focus on school and extracurricular activities. They would prohibit children to have playdates, play computer games, watch TV, etc. These parents will prevent the goods of childhood, they believe that being completely strict will raise a successful child in the future. However, I believe children shouldn t be deprived for common childhood activities to satisfy those qualities. For instance, according to Powell s article where he describes his parenting style towards his daughter, She goes out to play with the kids in our neighborhood. And she watches movies. In fact, one of the reasons Abby s English is so good is that she spends time watching The Lion King and Toy Story. That s more freedom than Chua s kids were allowed, according to her book. Powell believes that his child can be able to do well in school without the need of depriving his child from things children do at their age such as watching movies. On the other hand, Chua s remarked about her daughters that, Well, I can tell them, because I ve done it. Here are some things my daughters, Sophia and Louisa, were never allowed to ... Although others may say the contrary, I believe making good first expressions is always important, and Edwin Epps made a horrible first impression. The second Northup arrived, Master Epps already had him performing difficult tasks around the plantation. These jobs can range from picking cotton on a blistering hot day to carrying heavy metals back and from the house. Edwin Epps, in my eyes, is a very abusive master, although beating slaves is the correct thing to do, he tends to take it to an extreme level. He beats them and strangles them for whatever reason, although they may not be doing anything wrong. If I were a slave and if I worked for Edwin Epps, himself, I m pretty sure I ll be dead. Not for doing the work incorrectly, but for talking back when I knew I couldn t. Instead of leaving the slaves to perish, he would use his own hands to beat them, to feel the presumptuous thrill running through their bare flesh. It seems like hell to an outsider, but I m sure it gets better once you re experiencing it or does it? There was one thing Northup enjoyed that lifted his spirits, and that was looking at Miss Patsey. The way he described her, made the readers think that he wanted to devour her in just one look. Comedy In The Play A Midsummer Night s Dream They Way Insults Promote Comedy In a quote by Madeline Kahn she says, Comedy is created when someone is trying very earnestly to do what he feels is the right thing to do at that moment. She is saying that comedy is usually created almost by accident. We try to do the right thing, but it does not always work out in the way we expect it to and the outcome is what makes the situation funny. In the play A Midsummer s Night Dream there are many elements of comedy that Shakespeare uses to communicate what he is trying to present within the play. These elements include mistaken identities, turning things upside down, wit and wordplay, multiple intertwining plots, the element of marriage, insults and burns, suspension of natural laws, language,... She loves him so much that she does not even care when he insults her, she believes him to be joking and takes it as sarcasm. Helena wants to be with Demetrius desperately and he does not want anything to do with her. These lines would be the equivalent of an individual saying you are ugly to another individual and have them reply with you are not and will never be ugly. It is funny and slightly ironic because they are just stating the opposite of one another. Shakespeare added this to show how much Helena was smitten over Demetrius and how much he absolutely loathed her. No matter what he says to her she still loves and cares for him while he just wants her to go away and because of that it gives the perfect opportunity for Demetrius to keep insulting her because no matter what he says to her she takes it in stride. Which allows Shakespeare to have Demetrius keep insulting Helena. These insults keep people laughing and entertained throughout the play. Shakespeare uses insult comedy to show a character s true colors and personality. Most of the insults that are said are directed at Hermia. Australian film usually provides a hard working and hardy stereotype who lives in the outback and takes pride in his mates, and for a lot of the country, this is mostly true. The typical Australian is a laid back, hard working community member who prides the relationship they have with their mates, who may not even be a person. The saying a man s best friend is his dog is incredibly true for many, especially Australians, where dogs can be found in all walks of life. At least, this is Kriv Stender s perspective of Australian identity, seen in his 2011 film Red Dog. Red Dog tells the story of a dog who wandered around the outback before settling down in Dampier, a mining town of north Western Australia. There he finds himself a home and a family, within the close knit community. This reflects Stender s perspective of the Australian identity, and what qualities are valued within Australian culture. The environment within the film shows a vast, dry and barren land, coated in a layer of red dust that is iconic within Australian film, and builds onto the identity. This is red dirt is so rich in its colour, and this can be seen in the scene where Red Dog earns his name, after being coated in the dust while sitting on the back of a trailer as it travelled across the land. In her book History Matters: Patriarchy and the Challenge of Feminism, she argues that feminism and history, specifically women s, need to be more closely linked. This link, she argues, comes from taking theories and methods from one field and applying them to the other in order to create a more indepth analysis of both. Bennett states in her introduction that this text ...builds steadily from problem to solution to elaboration, and though this statement holds, due to the brevity of this book, many aspects of this text are not well defined, explored, or analyzed (4 5). Throughout this text, Bennett uses feminist language, and indeed the word feminism without properly defining the term. It is true that this book is aimed at an audience that is likely to known these terms. Yet, by not giving a definition Bennett opens the floor for radically different interpretations based upon where the reader s definition falls on the spectrum, from hating men and wanting female superiority to wanting equality and justice for all regardless of sex, that defines the various schools of feminism. Despite this lack of clarity, many of the arguments that Bennett makes are still valid. In search for alternative fuels, biofuels have shown promising results to generate useful energy. However, efficient atomization of some high viscosity biofuels to yield maximum useful energy and minimise emissions is an area of research that has not been completely explored so far. As a result, liquid atomization has drawn a lot of attention among researchers over the past few years [2]. Though several different types of atomization processes are used in the industry, twin fluid atomization practices have been quite common and effective. Twin fluid atomization techniques can be broadly classified into Air Blast (AB) atomization, Effervescent Atomization (EA), and Flow Blurring (FB) atomization. Amongst these, FB atomization technique is a very recently developed concept that has demonstrated promising experimental results with high atomization efficiency. Researchers have conducted experiments to understand the process of atomization in a FB injector as well as the spray characteristics [2]. With the geographic difference between Bishop and Lispector, and yet such similar themes, it could be contended that their writings are evidence that both existentialismand exploration of the image of one s self are major themes in twentieth century literary writing and thought. Existentialism, a philosophical ideology conceptualized by Jean Paul Sarte, encapsulates most thought processes where the individual is obliged to make a choice as though he were choosing for all mankind (Arnold, Jean Paul Sarte: Overview). Put simply, Sarte s concept of existentialism is the thought process by which humans find themselves existing, and the analysis of their existence itself (Tulloch, Sartrian Existentialism). Emma Bovary is the novel s eponymous antiheroine who uses deviant behavior and willful acts of indiscretion to reject a lifestyle imposed upon her by an oppressive patriarchal society. Madame Bovarys struggle to circumvent and overthrow social roles reflects both a cultural and an existential critique of gender and class boundaries, and her unwillingness to tolerate the banalities of domestic life in a predetermined caste culminates in several distinct means of defiance. She is expected to fulfill the duties of a simple minded, submissive, and sexless creature who is devoted to the comfort of her family and upkeep of the home. By pursuing a sexual relationship with Rodolphe, Emma invalidates the authority of the prohibitive government institution over her actions and demands autonomy in the face of a banal provincial life. Material possessions are both a comfort and a preoccupation for Emma Bovary and she is largely defined by her identity as a consumer and her efforts to subvert traditional materialism through excess. Attending a ball at the home of the Marquis de Andervilliers is one of the defining moments in Emma s life, in which she receives a glimpse into the life of the aristocracy and experiences a fleeting sense of ...
