Essay On Capitalism And Capitalism
In every country, there is always an economic system created to meet the needs of its people.
Capitalism, as described by Adam Smith and communism as described by Karl Marx, are two types of
these economic systems. Capitalism tries to meet the needs of the people allowing all its citizens to
work to improve their lives by giving them control over the economy while communism gives the
government total control of its industry and the economy and all people have equal social and
economic status. These two types of economic systems each have a different effect on the economy of
the nations and its people.
Capitalism is the system in which we live in, where businesses are privately owned and operated for
profit and where people can buy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To get higher profits companies will need to seek out new ways of making a good more cheaply or
look for a new way to manufacture it s this competition that leads to the production of better goods at
lower prices this is called Mass production. Also by removing all limitations and regulations, every
ones self interests would fuel the economy s growth. While in government plays a small role in
capitalism it allows its citizens some Individual freedom like Freedom of Speech, Freedom of
Religion, Freedom of Choice, Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of the Press. Because of this
Entrepreneurs have the ability can risk their own money in the market economy. Entrepreneurs are
people take a risk by investing their money in a business venture.
Communism has an opposite way of achieving the needs of its people like Adam Smiths Wealth of
Nations Karl Marx a 9th century philosopher and political economist addressed a wide range of
political and social issues the Communist Manifesto. By having a Communist economy, the
government can have total control of industry and keep production of goods from competing with one
another and make everyone work for the good of the society. By doing this competition,
unemployment, and poverty would be eliminated. All good and services would be distributed
according to people s needs as a result food and clothes would cost less. Through this system,
Communist workers standard of living would be raised because many benefits can be provided

Examples Of Insanity In The Black Cat
The Black Cat, a short horror story by Edgar Allen Poe, told in a first person perspective, follows the
narrator through his mental decline triggered by alcoholism. It narrates about how his degraded
rational state causes him to torture animals and kill his wife. Insanity, as demonstrated by the narrator
of The Black Cat, does not always manifest itself as permanent characteristics that consistently show.
Sometimes it shows as periods of irrationality and irritability, an inability to distinguish right from
wrong, or as mad fits of uncontrollable rage. Alcohol can prompt these outbursts of rage. Because of
the events and contemplations of the narrator, we as readers can conclude that he is definitely not sane
during these outbursts. The narrator is insane because he can t have power over his own actions and is
therefore not guilty of killing his wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does not understand the severity of his actions in the heat of the moment and only regrets them
when he has calmed down and sobered up. The cat... exasperated me to madness. Uplifting an axe,
and forgetting, in my wrath, the childish dread that had hitherto stayed my hand, I aimed my blow at
the animal... The narrator admits, in a semi sane position while writing, that he couldn t control
himself and became disoriented in the moment. He dreads the idea of killing his second cat after the
outcome of his last cat s murder, but forgets about it due to his madness. The madness overtakes him
and makes him almost do the thing for temporary relief. His lack of control over his body is evidence
that he is insane and not guilty of

US government opened a detainment center of the coast of Cuba called Guantanamo Bay. Recently it
has been brought out that it should be shut down for the reason being that it is a waste of time and

Negative Consequences Of European Exploration
European Exploration is negative due to the effects that individual explorers and triangular trade still
has on my life. Racism and the endangerment of native people are prime examples of the negative
consequences of European Exploration. John Cabot s exploration has had a negative impact on my
life. His discoveries led to the colonization of the Americas. Colonists came to the Americas and killed
natives for land and resources. Natives were frightened to the point of leaving their children in the
attempts to escape. This caused the mass extermination of whole groups of people. In North America,
descendants of these natives are being treated unequally due to their cultural differences. Additionally,
in the United States they are a small minority,

A Note on Fuel Hedging in the Airline Industry
Fuel hedging in the airline industry Introduction Hedging can be defined as a risk management
mechanism or strategy which is used to prevent the chances of incurring losses which arise as a result
of fall in prices commodities or currencies. It is a technique which is majorly used by the investors in
protecting their capital against the effects of the economic situations such as inflation whereby the
investors invests in the high yield financial instruments or take a position to cushion them against such
effects (Investopedia, 2012). From its definition it can be noticed that hedging is a strategy employed
by companies in an effort to safeguard their economic position and to prevent the company from the
losses which are associated with the unforeseen risks. Companies can hedge against risks which are
associated with losses by taking control of their future purchases. The commodity prices vary in
different markets and are caused or influenced by different economic factors. Some commodities are
very scarce and with the increased depletion subject to the global demand in different foreign markets,
the prices are set to be hiked in response to the established demand which positions the companies that
use those particular commodities to have cash flow problems. Pricing of commodities are arrived at
basically from the forces of demand and supply, a decrease in supply of a basic commodity or a
commodity with a high utility value causes the demand to rise suddenly. There are

Dual Credit American History Research Paper
Looking back at Dual Credit American history, it was the research papers that saved my grade.
Learning from my mistakes I discovered that self sufficiency was not the only attribute that I would
require for Dual Credit American History. I had made it through every class before putting in the work
by myself or in small groups. Rarely ever taking advantage of additional help form the teacher. My
work that I did on my own was sufficient, why would I need additional help? It was with the first test
on the second day of testing that I realized this would have to change.
In class we had already did our study guides for the multiple choice and reviewed what to write for the
essay topics. I was about equally prepared for them both. The second test day was essay test day we
had 45 minutes to fully answer the questions. Mrs. Baylous announced that the chosen essay was
Number 2, which was, Is Christopher Columbus a hero or a villain? along with several other sub
questions. Many in the room exclaimed their joy at this, or stated their disappointment with sighs or
groans. I franticly wrote down a meager plan of what to write about, then I just went into ... Show

practice proved necessary in composing a quick but impactful on demand essay. The grade I desired
first semester was not accomplished, but that inspired me to strive to do even better the second
semester. What I did to make my second research paper great, would have to be replicated even more,
with some refinement. Maybe my grade was better because I knew the material more thoroughly. It
could ve been a possibility that I took better notes. Maybe it was just more consistent good grades. It

Slavery Vs American Slavery
After all of my history classes throughout school, I never seemed to completely understand what all
actually happened during the slavery years throughout the world. Reading these selections has given
me a much better understanding of slavery and the story behind it all. In part one of the assignment,
there were many things that seemed to interest me that I did not know about. One thing is how the
African slavery was much more different than the American slavery. The passage states that when the
Europeans arrived, slavery had already existed on the continent, but little did they know the real way
slaves were treated in America. The African slaves were allowed to own land, get married, and own
slaves even though they were one themselves. When they were brought over to America, they learned
the brutality of American slavery. They tried to recruit Native Americans but many died during
transportation due to small pox, tuberculosis, and diphtheria. The Europeans did end up finding a way
to fix their labor shortages and that was by importing slaves from Africa. Later after that, 105 colonist
landed in Jamestown and by the next year, 500 settlers had come to join I had always thought that the
laws were quickly and heavily forced by the land owners but in fact I learned that it actually gradually
proceeded, one person, one law, and one colony at a time. Around this time is when slavery became
highly popular around the South. In part two, there were also many facts that were

U3 Advisors Expanded The Chula Vista Team
In 2015, U3 Advisors expanded the Chula Vista team by retaining the following four individuals to act
in an advisory capacity on the project; Denise Ducheny, retired California State Senator, and Clarissa
Reyes Falcon of Falcon Consulting, to act as the local representatives for the institutional recruitment
process, and Eduardo Glandt, Dean of Engineering, Emeritus, University of Pennsylvania as an
academic and institutional sounding board. We also consulted with Mexican American Architect
Enrique Norten who has close ties to Chula Vista as well as high level Mexican governmental and
higher education officials.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The City of Chula Vista, California has engaged U3 Advisors to help establish a University and
Innovation District campus on a 375 acre site in the southeast corner of the City. Chula Vista, a
growing city located approximately four miles north of the US/Mexico border and midpoint between
the downtowns of San Diego and Tijuana, envisions this campus as an educational destination and
regional economic engine. U3 is guiding the effort to identify potential partner institutions for this
project and is exploring opportunities with higher education partners globally and domestically.
A new university campus could have a tremendous impact for not only the City of Chula Vista, but
also the larger CaliBaja Megaregion, comprised of San Diego and Imperial Counties to the north of

Information Retrieval During The 1950s
Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
Information Retrieval
Information retrieval can be used in a broad term to mean physically bringing out what we have stored
or kept earlier in order to use the information on it. For example, we have retrieved information when
we retrieve our international passports from our pockets in order to copy the number on it into a form.
It can also be described as the act of getting information, relevant to a need
As an academic field of study however, it can be defined as ... finding material...of an unstructured
nature...that satisfies an information need from within large collections... (C. Manning et al, 2008).
This kind of information retrieval, used to be limited to a few people or professional searchers, as
access to computers was limited at that time while the internet was not yet available. This however is
no longer the case in the developed world as most people retrieve information by themselves when
they search the web. The earliest form of computerised information retrieval began in the 1940s due to
an increase in the production of scientific literature and availability of computers. This however was
based on author, title and key words, rather than full text searches which came later. (Cleverdon, C.W.
ACM press (1991).According to Mark Sanderson and W. Bruce Croft the capability of retrieval
system grew as technology developed and processor speed and storage capacity increased. As the
development of these systems led to movement away from manual

How Nadiya Savchenko became Ukraine s Joan of Arc
Content:
Nadiya Savchenko, a 35 year old Ukranian politician, was released in May 2016 and welcomed as a
hero by her home country after being imprisoned by Russian court authority. Savchenko served as a
volunteer soldier who fought in the war in the region of Ukraine known as Donbas, and was captured,
tried in Moscow, and sentenced for a 22 year imprisonment of a supposed collaboration of murder of
two Russian journalists. During her imprisonment, Savchenko began a hunger strike lasting almost 3
months. For her bravery and heroism, Savchenko was awarded a Hero of Ukraine medal by Ukrainian
president Petro Poroshenko and compared throughout the world as the present day Joan of Arc. After
being released by exchange of prisoners, Savchenko, now in Ukraine, has begun her battle against
political corruption.

renowned for her influence over women s rights, Savchenko has become the embodiment of what
Wollstonecraft saw as the full capability of what women could accomplish, be it serving in an army,
serving as a politician, or as an inspiration for the soldiers and people of Ukraine, deeming herself

How Did Fidel Castro Rise To Power
Fidel was born on August 13th, 1926 in Cuba s Oriente province. His father owned a sugar plantation,
and originally lived in spain. Castro was the third of six children, and his mother was formerly a maid
to his father, and Castro was conceived while his father was still wed to his first wife. Eventually
Angel, his father, learned of his paternity to Fidel, and formally recognized him as his son when Fidel
was 17. He grew up in a wealthy environment, attending well off boarding schools. In school, he was
something of a troublemaker, more interested in sports and other activities than he was in his
education. He did however display intellectual prowess, and he attended El Colegio de Belen, where
he was a pitcher for their baseball team. He graduated in 1945 and attended The University of Havana,

In 1955, he was released, and went to Mexico to plan his revolution. Using guerilla warfare, he
successfully took control of Cuba, and Batista fled the country. His governing of the country shared
many similarities with Soviet Russia, and their communist views. This caused tension among the US
and Cuba, due to the negative views of communism in the United States. Under his rule, literacy rates
and health care improved, but at great cost. Fidel commonly imprisoned those who spoke out against
him and his political views, taking away a great liberty from the people of Cuba, the freedom to have
your voice heard, and to let it resonate among the collective was stripped from the citizens, leaving
their mouths sewn shut. In my opinion, Castro was a tyrant who adulterated the sacred right that all
men and women should possess. In taking away his people s voices through Lèse majesté, he uprooted
any sense of power from the third estate, corrupting the Cuban government. With his death, perhaps
this will one day be remedied, but that is yet to be

Why The Slave Is The Fourth Of September By Frederick...
On July 5th, 1952, Frederick Douglass addressed the ladies of the Rochester Anti Slavery Sewing
society in his famous speech, titled What to the slave is the fourth of July? 1 In this address, Douglass
points out the hypocrisies between the principles of the American Constitution and the way in which
American society functioned at the time. Prior to this speech, his early experiences, friendships, and
observations of different aspects of society pushed him to advocate for the participation of blacks in
American democracy and freedom, and later in opposition to the many voices within the abolitionist
movement that argued for the opposite. While Douglass saw the blatant contradictions between the
words of the Revolution and the way in which marginalized groups were treated by most of the ruling
white male population, he was by no means against the principles outlined within the Declaration of
Independence or the United States as a nation. Douglass s thought was very much an olive branch
between the ruling white class and the enslaved and disenfranchised black population. His self made
story, inspiring influences, and determination to promote American freedom amongst the many evil
aspects in the country he lived in made him one of the most important intellectual figures in the road
to abolishing slavery.
Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland in 1818 to a black slave mother
and a white father whom he did not know. From his early days, he was able

Medea Analysis
Medea
Medea plays a lot of rolls in this epic, and it s hard to explain how she is that smart to be an actor. The
thing is, she is a scary woman, and after one day she is a queen who will conquer the world. There are
a lot of different interpretations of the acts that Medea has committed throughout this play. For
example, one could say that Medea should be prosecuted for the murders that she committed, or one
could also admit that Medea should not be held responsible for her actions due to other reasons.
Medea murders a total of four people in this play: Princess, the two sons, and the kind Creon.
However, Medea does not kill Creon directly because she tried to kill the princess but the king tried to
help the princess. While trying to help the princess, the king touches the coat to kill himself a long
with his daughter. The murder of Creon is not placed against her because she is not held responsible
for her actions. Medea is not held responsible due to the context in this play and on a legal note as
well.
First of all, the context shows that Medea did not kill all four people. Medea did not kill Creon of
trying to kill him. However, Creon is killed because of the princess, and it is not Medea s
responsibility for this murder. Medea kills the princess because of the poison which it was in her dress,
however the king is killed due to him grabbing on to his daughter to kill himself with her. Based solely
on the actions that Medea committed towards her daughter, she is not

the life cycle and includes a table of contents making each stage highly accessible to the students. In
addition to the table of contents, the beginning of the book also includes the focus question: what is
the life cycle of a monarch butterfly? This focus questions allows for these readers to focus their

By pausing at words that the students do not know and breaking them down the students will gain
experience that will allow them to work on this practice independently. We set this up as a gradual
release of responsibility, beginning the exercise with a teacher model of how to break down a word.
We will then break down a list of words into parts and have students repeat these breakdowns before
practicing it themselves. Before diving into the reading, we will go over sentences that have these
practice words and have the student, together, repeating the sentences after us. This ensures that
students gain practice reading the word in sentences, rather than as an individual word before
performing their whisper reads. We included whisper reading as the during reading activity, to give
students a chance to read independently but without the pressure of having an audience. As they read
to themselves, students will pause at words they are struggling to pronounce and break them apart, at
this point we will continue guiding students through this process, in order ensure that motivation is not
lost when students feel challenged. To gauge the learnings of the students, we will have each student
chose one word that they struggle with and create a master list, the students will practice pronouncing
their individual words and receive clarifying definitions if necessary. The students will then create
their own sentence using this word, practice it through whisper readings, and then share it aloud with
the group. This process creates a learning experience where students are able to practice not only their
phonics skills but also work on comprehension. This process incorporates repetition to enforce the
importance and practice with this

War Of The Worlds Chapter 1 Summary
War of the Worlds Chapter One Despite its location, Dot s Donut Shop was about to get famous. I
mean, being the crash site for the second wave of aliens on earth can earn quite the reputation, and
what are the odds I would be working there that very day? Well, to understand my position entirely,
we need to go back to the beginning. In 1939, the U.S. declared itself a neutral country in the
European conflict that would come to be known as World War II. In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt became
the first and only president elected for three terms. Later that year, Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl
Harbor. These events spiraled into the earth changing event that was the bombing of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. Many scientists believe this to be the event that caused the Invasion, as it sent some sort of
radioactive wave throughout the galaxy. Although people tend to may disagree with each other, there
was no doubt that it was a devastating blow to the entire world. The Roswell crash in 1947 was the
first contact we had with any species not from Earth. Although the creature didn t survive long enough
to greet us, it seems it was alive long enough to send a distress signal, calling the rest of its friends. We
scavenged what we could from the wreckage, using it to create new technologies that advanced our

Homecoming Poem
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Bruce Dawe s Homecoming are thematically
connected poems which explore the futility of war and the treatment of deceased combatants. Both
Owen and Dawe served in the military and were controversial condemners in all that they penned on
World War One and the Vietnam War respectively. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state these
views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience utilising subtle poetic techniques including
contrast, flesh imagery and death imagery.
Contrast is one of the most apparent devices within Homecoming and Anthem for Doomed Youth and
is used to create a pervading sense of war s irony. The very title of Dawe s poem, Homecoming , has
the positive connotations of family reunion but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quotation is heavy with religious imagery of the passage to heaven, impressed upon the reader by
the purposeful placement of commas. Throughout history religion has been misused as justification of
the military institution, and Dawe considers the contradictory nature of these ideologies; one
preaching peace and the other incentivising the indiscriminate killing of one s neighbour. These
shadows, however, do not simply pass over untouched land but the countryside they have scarred;
metaphorically envisioned as steaming chow mein and likened to Australia s knuckled hills and desert
emptiness . The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his condemnation, Dawe
momentarily admires the mash, the splendour of war, emphasising its eternal allure. Anthem for
Doomed Youth shares this ironic contrast, comparing traditional funeral rites to war. From the opening
stanza the audience is immersed in cacophony of battle, with Owen utilising the alliteration of rifles
rapid rattle to emulate the sound produced by the monstrous anger of guns . Personification is

I Am A Physician Assistant
Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. My eyes started to lose the strength to stay open and my vision began to blur.
The tight grip I had on the anesthesiologist s hand slowly withered away.
As an active thirteen year old who spent his afternoons and weekends playing basketball, I was taken
aback when I first heard of my atrial septal defect and inevitable open heart surgery. I could not
fathom being away from the court for so long. But what seemed like the end of my passion for
basketball ultimately lead to a new passion to become a physician assistant.
Throughout my experience as a surgical patient, I always noticed three things my medical team never
failed to perform: inform, educate, and care for me. Through my frequent visits to the hospital I began
to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician patient relationship. As I
progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular activities
I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. I vividly remember sitting next to my
doctor with my knees trembling as he tried to explain my condition. I realized that the ability to advise
a young, scared, or uninformed individual was an indispensable tool to any practitioner. Just as my
physician was able to fulfill his duty to inform me, I informed others through ROOP NYC. ROOP is a

by her parents because they favored her brothers more. Allegedly, Susan was molested by her older
brother, his friends, her father s friends, and friends of the family. She grew up in a middle class
neighborhood. She was in her school s glee club and church choir. Growing up, both of her parents
were alcoholics. Her mother died from cancer when she was fourteen. She and her brothers were cared
for by her grandparents. Her relationship with her father started falling apart as a result from his
drinking habits. They worsened after his wife passed away.
Susan had to take on a job and her younger brother because her father left them. She could not focus
on school so she dropped out and took on a full time job. She was forced to move out of her
grandparents because there was not enough room. Her younger brother stayed while she had to
support herself. Her older brother joined the navy. During this time, she learned that stealing gave her
excitement. She moved to San Francisco when she was eighteen. It was very hard for her to hold
down a stable job. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which caused her life to downward spiral. She was constantly influenced by him. She thought he
really cared about her so she complied with anything he wanted, even if she did not do want to do it.

Cost of Living
Measuring the Cost of Living
Overview:
Last time we discussed the most important measure of economic well being real, per capita GDP.
Further, if we want to see how our economic well being is changing over time, we can calculate how
real GDP is changing in percentage terms (for example, real GDP grew 4% last quarter).
Now, we turn our attention to another important measure of the economy.
We want to measure how the cost of living changes over time.
The main intuition here is that, over time, peoples incomes and the prices of goods and services
increase. 30 years ago an ice cream sundae cost $1 and a typical economics professor earned $35,000.
Now, a (bad) ice cream sundae costs $4.50 and a typical economics professor ... Show more content

We have to figure out what a typical consumer buys. Imagine a shopping cart you fill it up with items
that a typical consumer will purchase.
Step 2: Find the prices:
Now that we have our basket, we can track prices on the items in the cart and see how much it all
costs.
Step 3: Compute the cost of the basket:
Let s determine the cost of the basket from year to year
Step 4: Choose a base year, and compute the index:
Pick a year to serve as a benchmark a comparison basket cost for all other years. We then can use the
cost in benchmark year (called a base year ) relative to the cost of the cart in the year we are interested
in to calculate a cost if living index.
Step 5: Compute the inflation rate:
This is easy: just calculate how the index changes from year to year in percentage terms.
To see these steps in action, consider the following example (from the textbook):
Step 1: Fix the basket:
Well, suppose that what we see consumers typically buying are 4 hot dogs and 2 hamburgers that is
what is in their shopping cart...
Step 2: Find the price of each good in each year:
This is just observing prices every year...
Year: Price of hot dogs: Price of hamburgers:
2001 $1 $2
2002: $2 $3
2003: $3 $4
Step 3: Compute the cost of the basket in each year:
Let s see how much the stuff in the cart costs from year to year...
Year: Cost of basket:

Inquiry Intention Essay
Inquiry Intention:
I come from Republican baby boomer parents, whose parents before them were Republicans and so

realization on my part. I m from a very liberal part of the country, and I remember in middle school,
discussing politics in my civics class, and being confused as to why people would get so mad about
the ideas I held as true. My parents talked about this stuff, how could what they say be lies or arrogant
responses to social issues? I soon realized through discussion with my peers that a lot of the stuff I
said I believed in I really didn t agree with and that my views were vastly different from my parents
and those before them. From there I went super radical liberal, spewing my views at my parents telling
them they were wrong! After countless arguments with them, I gave up. They weren t going to change,
and in my cynical teenage head I decided that this was true of everyone. Nobody changes, nothing
changes, everything sucks. Then I gave up on not only changing people, but politics in general. I just

organization named International Labor Organization (ILO), has created a project to take action
against child labor. The project is named International Program on the Elimination of Child Labor

History and Causes of Smallpox Essay
Introduction
Smallpox is a viral disease that causes pus filled boils on the dermis. It looks similar to chickenpox,
but has certain characteristic differences. Unlike chickenpox, smallpox is lethal in 30% of the cases
and leaves the victim with disfiguring scars and/or blindness. Smallpox has now been eradicated
through aggressive vaccination. The last case was reported in Somalia in the late 1970 s. After 2 years
of worldwide surveillance, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that the disease had been
eradicated.

Disease transmission
Smallpox is transmitted via face to face contact and /or exchange of infected bodily fluids with the
affected individual. The disease is transmitted to a lesser extent via infected clothing and bedding.
Humans are the only natural host for the virus. Therefore, there is no reservoir and the virus is not
transmittable through animals or insects. The incubation period of the virus is nearly 2 weeks (7 to 17
days) during which the person is asymptomatic and non contagious (Fenner et al., 129).
Symptoms and diagnosis
After the incubation period, the person experiences symptoms such as fever (101 to 104°F), body
ache, headache, malaise, vomiting and stomachache. At this point, the person becomes too sick to
walk around and do their daily chores. This phase is called as prodrome that may last 2 to 4 days. The
patient starts to feel normal after this prodrome phase only to experience the appearance of rashes in
the form of red spots on the mucous lining of the mouth and on the tongue, 24 hours later. These spots
rupture and release the virus into the throat. It is during this time that the rash starts appearing on the
dermis of the face, arms and legs. Usually, the midsection of the body has less concentration of these
spots when compared to the face and the extremities. This is the first

The Causes Of Procrastination
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. It is a common issue
most Americans face today. Procrastination can be argued whether or not if it s caused by choice.
There are various factors that lead to procrastination such as; our being brain programmed to
procrastinate, feeling like you aren t in the right frame of mind to do a particular task, and the lack of
self confidence.
Procrastination doesn t happen just because, it is a result of our brain being programmed to do so.
Typically, we procrastinate because we visualize the hardest part of something that needs to be done. It
could be a range of doing a project, assignment, or even cleaning your house. According to Ciotti
(2012): our brain has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means we put important things off to avoid being uncomfortable. Dr. Sinclair also states, It s a
human reaction to avoid doing stuff we don t want to do to avoid potentially difficult situations, it s all
about our confidence and a fear that it won t go well and we won t be good enough. This is something
most can relate to because we visualize something going wrong so we won t do it. Another thing that
can be involved is perfectionism, we may not want to attempt something unless we feel sure that we
will be great at it. It becomes a vicious cycle, the more we procrastinate the more distressed we are
and undermine our own confidence. Procrastination also happens because we may have a low self
confidence. When difficulties arise, people with weak self confidence easily develop doubts about
their ability to accomplish the task at hand, while those with strong beliefs are more likely to continue
their efforts. (Heshmat, 2016). Whenever this happens, people miss opportunities to acquire new
knowledge and skills. An example of this would be someone with a low sense of confidence for math
avoids enrollment for an upper level math course (Heshmat, 2016). Robert K., Lindsey K., and
Sukaina R. have created 2 studies on the academic procrastination of 456 undergraduates, one of the

Age Discrimination and Mandatory Retirement
Age Discrimination and Mandatory Retirement Joyce Cook
The mandatory retirement age controversy should be re examined and redefined further. Baby
boomers are very different from their predecessors; they are living longer, maintain lifestyles that are
more active and are generally better able to continue working than in the past. The real challenge is
the reality of how the insufficient number of young people will fill the vacancies left by the aging
workforce. Mandatory retirement may be unavoidable, as older workers are forced from the work field
to create more vacancies for new younger employees. According to most seniors, it is an unfair
practice and does not take into account if the person wants to retire; it also does ... Show more content

In addition, to accommodate the changing abilities of older workers, employers need to re design the
job as well. Instead of having to hire new younger workers who are not as skilled or trained in the job,
there is a chance it would benefit employers to accommodate older workers needs. Functionality and
not chronological age must become the prime criteria in all employment practices. As baby boomers
exit the work force, letting people work longer could help to curb a predicted skilled and experienced
labor shortage in many occupations. Employers need to revise human resource plans to reflect the
possibility of more employees working past their previously expected retirement date as well as
change testing and performance evaluations to reflect the reality of an aging workforce. Organizations
need to develop programs to maximize the contributions of older workers, particularly in the areas of
adult learning and flexible work arrangements; it may encourage older workers who wish to continue
working. Labor force participation rates of older ages has been on the rise slightly since 1970 and is
projected to rise more in the coming years. Couple slow labor force growth with an aging population
and it poses serious economic and fiscal challenges to America in the 21st century. Policies that

Symbolism In Claude Lorrain
While opinion and interpretation concerning the works of Claude Lorrain (1600 82) have shifted over
the past three centuries, to present day scholars, the artist is nonetheless regarded as a father of
classical landscape painting. Largely recognized for his sprawling scenes of nature meeting old world
civilization, the artist masterfully juxtaposes timeless natural scenes with figures and architecture that
evoke a sense of classical antiquity. While mythological themes would have been in step with the
motif trends of his era, Lorrain distinguishes himself from his contemporaries as a landscape painter
who seamlessly marries realistic natural scenes with fantastical narratives. Landscape with Egeria
Mourning the Death of Numa [fig. 1]) is emblematic of Lorrain s symbiosis between the natural and
the civilized. And the analysis herein will demonstrate that the piece fully encapsulates the character
of his most notable landscapes. Composed by a student of Claude Lorrain in the 18th century (a copy
of an original 1669 work by Lorrain), this work is done in oil on canvas and depicts a scenic scape of
rustic architecture nestled into lush wilderness. The color utilized in this work is both complementary
and deeply contrasting. The rich, earthen colors of the shrouded forest setting and architecture
juxtapose against the pale, muted sky. The sky begins at the top of the frame in the foreground as a
pale magenta and subtly transitions to the background into a quiet, sunset like

In the beginning of the movie, Michael was tested of his personality. Though he score extremely low
in all aspects and areas of the test, he scored over 95% in protective instinct. When Michael started to
play football, he had a rough start. He was uncertain of the concept and strategies. He did not
understand how to block opponents and was yelled by the coach many times. However, the yelling did
not help him improve. Instead, he became more confused. This was not Michaels learning behaviour
so whenever he was coached in this specific way, he was not able to absorb anything that the coach
had mentioned to help him improve. That was until Leigh stepped in. When Leigh observed how
Michael was doing, she saw the flaw of how Michael was being coached. She took action and
considered Michael s personality in account to how he performs. As mentioned above, in the
beginning the school board had taken his personality test and scored 98% in protective instinct. Leigh
used this opportunity to connect both Michael s personality and sports to teach him how to block. She
related the football players to the family that he cares for. When Leigh and Michael first interacted, he
brought her to the area he was born in. That area is known for violence and surrounded by those who
live in poverty. While walking with Leigh around that neighbourhood, Michael promised to protect
her if anything were to happen. Additionally, while S.J and Michael were in a car accident, Michael
protected S.J by stopping the airbag from making contact with him. Leigh used these situations to
exemplify that the team is Michael s family and it is his job to protect them from their opponents. She
then illustrated that the quarterback is who he needed to protect as if the quarterback was Leigh
herself. She continued by displaying that when Michael sees his

Contents Of The Dead Man s Pocket
The working class can relate to the theme of the short story Contents of the Dead Man s Pocket, by

The majority of people spend countless hours of their life working to provide for themselves and their
loved ones. The irony of working all these hours to provide for your loved ones is that you will not see
them nearly as much as desired because of work. In my opinion, the above passage is important to the
story because Tom is now inside lying on the floor as a new man who knows what is important in life.
Tom works for Wholesale Groceries and has been spending most of his free time off of work doing
research on grocery store displays. The only copy of his research flies out of the window of his tenth

he can elevate above his coworkers. This perilous behavior is the complete opposite from the Tom we

beverage advertising should be restricted. In addition, the opponents claim that alcohol ads do not
promote underage drinking. Both sides have given ample reasons to justify their views. The pros who
persist that alcohol advertising should be restricted have their sound reasons. There are two strong

Both views have strong foundations; but, overall, I tend to agree with the latter that alcohol
advertising do not promote underage drinking. There are three factors to explain underage drinking.
Firstly, a bad home environment can affect children s perception. If children grew up in the home
where alcohol consumption is acceptable, for example, so it have a reason to think that they are
already familiar with the products they see on television. I think parents and schools should to teach
children that minors should not drink, rather than ban advertising. In another word, alcohol advertising
did not seem to be impact on them. Secondly, advertising is protected by the constitution; this is
known as commercial free speech, and the Supreme Court upheld that statement. Thirdly, there is no
denying that genetic factors influence underage drinking. A study has shown that children of
alcoholics are 4 to 10 times more likely than other children to become alcoholics too. Therefore, we
should not attack alcohol advertising because it can be ignored, so let s pay attention to the specific
reasons why minors drink

heroine and victim, femme fatale and star crossed lover, politician and voluptuary, black and white. A

  • 3. Examples Of Insanity In The Black Cat The Black Cat, a short horror story by Edgar Allen Poe, told in a first person perspective, follows the narrator through his mental decline triggered by alcoholism. It narrates about how his degraded rational state causes him to torture animals and kill his wife. Insanity, as demonstrated by the narrator of The Black Cat, does not always manifest itself as permanent characteristics that consistently show. Sometimes it shows as periods of irrationality and irritability, an inability to distinguish right from wrong, or as mad fits of uncontrollable rage. Alcohol can prompt these outbursts of rage. He dreads the idea of killing his second cat after the outcome of his last cat s murder, but forgets about it due to his madness. Racism and the endangerment of native people are prime examples of the negative consequences of European Exploration. John Cabot s exploration has had a negative impact on my life. Natives were frightened to the point of leaving their children in the attempts to escape. This caused the mass extermination of whole groups of people. • 8. Dual Credit American History Research Paper Looking back at Dual Credit American history, it was the research papers that saved my grade. Learning from my mistakes I discovered that self sufficiency was not the only attribute that I would require for Dual Credit American History. I had made it through every class before putting in the work by myself or in small groups. Rarely ever taking advantage of additional help form the teacher. My work that I did on my own was sufficient, why would I need additional help? It was with the first test on the second day of testing that I realized this would have to change. In class we had already did our study guides for the multiple choice and reviewed what to write for the essay topics. I was about equally prepared for them both. The second test day was essay test day we had 45 minutes to fully answer the questions. Mrs. Baylous announced that the chosen essay was Number 2, which was, Is Christopher Columbus a hero or a villain? along with several other sub questions. • 9. Slavery Vs American Slavery After all of my history classes throughout school, I never seemed to completely understand what all actually happened during the slavery years throughout the world. Reading these selections has given me a much better understanding of slavery and the story behind it all. In part one of the assignment, there were many things that seemed to interest me that I did not know about. One thing is how the African slavery was much more different than the American slavery. The passage states that when the Europeans arrived, slavery had already existed on the continent, but little did they know the real way slaves were treated in America. The African slaves were allowed to own land, get married, and own slaves even though they were one themselves. When they were brought over to America, they learned the brutality of American slavery. They tried to recruit Native Americans but many died during transportation due to small pox, tuberculosis, and diphtheria. The Europeans did end up finding a way to fix their labor shortages and that was by importing slaves from Africa. Later after that, 105 colonist landed in Jamestown and by the next year, 500 settlers had come to join I had always thought that the laws were quickly and heavily forced by the land owners but in fact I learned that it actually gradually proceeded, one person, one law, and one colony at a time. Around this time is when slavery became highly popular around the South. In part two, there were also many facts that were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Information Retrieval During The 1950s Chapter 1 1.1 Introduction Information Retrieval Information retrieval can be used in a broad term to mean physically bringing out what we have stored or kept earlier in order to use the information on it. For example, we have retrieved information when we retrieve our international passports from our pockets in order to copy the number on it into a form. It can also be described as the act of getting information, relevant to a need As an academic field of study however, it can be defined as ... finding material...of an unstructured nature...that satisfies an information need from within large collections... (C. Manning et al, 2008). This kind of information retrieval, used to be limited to a few people or professional searchers, as access to computers was limited at that time while the internet was not yet available. This however is no longer the case in the developed world as most people retrieve information by themselves when they search the web. The earliest form of computerised information retrieval began in the 1940s due to an increase in the production of scientific literature and availability of computers. This however was based on author, title and key words, rather than full text searches which came later. (Cleverdon, C.W. ACM press (1991).According to Mark Sanderson and W. Bruce Croft the capability of retrieval system grew as technology developed and processor speed and storage capacity increased. Savchenko served as a volunteer soldier who fought in the war in the region of Ukraine known as Donbas, and was captured, tried in Moscow, and sentenced for a 22 year imprisonment of a supposed collaboration of murder of two Russian journalists. During her imprisonment, Savchenko began a hunger strike lasting almost 3 months. After being released by exchange of prisoners, Savchenko, now in Ukraine, has begun her battle against political corruption. This caused tension among the US and Cuba, due to the negative views of communism in the United States. Under his rule, literacy rates and health care improved, but at great cost. Fidel commonly imprisoned those who spoke out against him and his political views, taking away a great liberty from the people of Cuba, the freedom to have your voice heard, and to let it resonate among the collective was stripped from the citizens, leaving their mouths sewn shut. • 14. Why The Slave Is The Fourth Of September By Frederick... On July 5th, 1952, Frederick Douglass addressed the ladies of the Rochester Anti Slavery Sewing society in his famous speech, titled What to the slave is the fourth of July? 1 In this address, Douglass points out the hypocrisies between the principles of the American Constitution and the way in which American society functioned at the time. Prior to this speech, his early experiences, friendships, and observations of different aspects of society pushed him to advocate for the participation of blacks in American democracy and freedom, and later in opposition to the many voices within the abolitionist movement that argued for the opposite. While Douglass saw the blatant contradictions between the words of the Revolution and the way in which marginalized groups were treated by most of the ruling white male population, he was by no means against the principles outlined within the Declaration of Independence or the United States as a nation. Douglass s thought was very much an olive branch between the ruling white class and the enslaved and disenfranchised black population. His self made story, inspiring influences, and determination to promote American freedom amongst the many evil aspects in the country he lived in made him one of the most important intellectual figures in the road to abolishing slavery. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland in 1818 to a black slave mother and a white father whom he did not know. From his early days, he was able ... • 15. Medea Analysis Medea Medea plays a lot of rolls in this epic, and it s hard to explain how she is that smart to be an actor. The thing is, she is a scary woman, and after one day she is a queen who will conquer the world. There are a lot of different interpretations of the acts that Medea has committed throughout this play. For example, one could say that Medea should be prosecuted for the murders that she committed, or one could also admit that Medea should not be held responsible for her actions due to other reasons. Medea murders a total of four people in this play: Princess, the two sons, and the kind Creon. However, Medea does not kill Creon directly because she tried to kill the princess but the king tried to help the princess. While trying to help the princess, the king touches the coat to kill himself a long with his daughter. The murder of Creon is not placed against her because she is not held responsible for her actions. Medea is not held responsible due to the context in this play and on a legal note as well. First of all, the context shows that Medea did not kill all four people. Medea did not kill Creon of trying to kill him. However, Creon is killed because of the princess, and it is not Medea s responsibility for this murder. Medea kills the princess because of the poison which it was in her dress, however the king is killed due to him grabbing on to his daughter to kill himself with her. By pausing at words that the students do not know and breaking them down the students will gain experience that will allow them to work on this practice independently. We set this up as a gradual release of responsibility, beginning the exercise with a teacher model of how to break down a word. We will then break down a list of words into parts and have students repeat these breakdowns before practicing it themselves. Before diving into the reading, we will go over sentences that have these practice words and have the student, together, repeating the sentences after us. This ensures that students gain practice reading the word in sentences, rather than as an individual word before performing their whisper reads. We included whisper reading as the during reading activity, to give students a chance to read independently but without the pressure of having an audience. As they read to themselves, students will pause at words they are struggling to pronounce and break them apart, at this point we will continue guiding students through this process, in order ensure that motivation is not lost when students feel challenged. To gauge the learnings of the students, we will have each student chose one word that they struggle with and create a master list, the students will practice pronouncing their individual words and receive clarifying definitions if necessary. The students will then create their own sentence using this word, practice it through whisper readings, and then share it aloud with the group. This process creates a learning experience where students are able to practice not only their phonics skills but also work on comprehension. I mean, being the crash site for the second wave of aliens on earth can earn quite the reputation, and what are the odds I would be working there that very day? Well, to understand my position entirely, we need to go back to the beginning. In 1939, the U.S. declared itself a neutral country in the European conflict that would come to be known as World War II. In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt became the first and only president elected for three terms. Later that year, Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor. These events spiraled into the earth changing event that was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Many scientists believe this to be the event that caused the Invasion, as it sent some sort of radioactive wave throughout the galaxy. Although people tend to may disagree with each other, there was no doubt that it was a devastating blow to the entire world. • 19. Homecoming Poem Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Bruce Dawe s Homecoming are thematically connected poems which explore the futility of war and the treatment of deceased combatants. Both Owen and Dawe served in the military and were controversial condemners in all that they penned on World War One and the Vietnam War respectively. Despite this, these texts do not explicitly state these views, but rather evoke the sympathy of the audience utilising subtle poetic techniques including contrast, flesh imagery and death imagery. This quotation is heavy with religious imagery of the passage to heaven, impressed upon the reader by the purposeful placement of commas. Throughout history religion has been misused as justification of the military institution, and Dawe considers the contradictory nature of these ideologies; one preaching peace and the other incentivising the indiscriminate killing of one s neighbour. These shadows, however, do not simply pass over untouched land but the countryside they have scarred; metaphorically envisioned as steaming chow mein and likened to Australia s knuckled hills and desert emptiness . The irony of this poem truly peaks when in spite of all his condemnation, Dawe momentarily admires the mash, the splendour of war, emphasising its eternal allure. Through my frequent visits to the hospital I began to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician patient relationship. As I progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular activities I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. Further, if we want to see how our economic well being is changing over time, we can calculate how real GDP is changing in percentage terms (for example, real GDP grew 4% last quarter). Now, we turn our attention to another important measure of the economy. We want to measure how the cost of living changes over time. The main intuition here is that, over time, peoples incomes and the prices of goods and services increase. 30 years ago an ice cream sundae cost $1 and a typical economics professor earned $35,000. Procrastination can be argued whether or not if it s caused by choice. There are various factors that lead to procrastination such as; our being brain programmed to procrastinate, feeling like you aren t in the right frame of mind to do a particular task, and the lack of self confidence. Procrastination doesn t happen just because, it is a result of our brain being programmed to do so. This is something most can relate to because we visualize something going wrong so we won t do it. Another thing that can be involved is perfectionism, we may not want to attempt something unless we feel sure that we will be great at it. It becomes a vicious cycle, the more we procrastinate the more distressed we are and undermine our own confidence. Procrastination also happens because we may have a low self confidence. When difficulties arise, people with weak self confidence easily develop doubts about their ability to accomplish the task at hand, while those with strong beliefs are more likely to continue their efforts. Symbolism In Claude Lorrain While opinion and interpretation concerning the works of Claude Lorrain (1600 82) have shifted over the past three centuries, to present day scholars, the artist is nonetheless regarded as a father of classical landscape painting. Largely recognized for his sprawling scenes of nature meeting old world civilization, the artist masterfully juxtaposes timeless natural scenes with figures and architecture that evoke a sense of classical antiquity. While mythological themes would have been in step with the motif trends of his era, Lorrain distinguishes himself from his contemporaries as a landscape painter who seamlessly marries realistic natural scenes with fantastical narratives. Landscape with Egeria Mourning the Death of Numa [fig. 1]) is emblematic of Lorrain s symbiosis between the natural and the civilized. And the analysis herein will demonstrate that the piece fully encapsulates the character of his most notable landscapes. Composed by a student of Claude Lorrain in the 18th century (a copy of an original 1669 work by Lorrain), this work is done in oil on canvas and depicts a scenic scape of rustic architecture nestled into lush wilderness. In the beginning of the movie, Michael was tested of his personality. Though he score extremely low in all aspects and areas of the test, he scored over 95% in protective instinct. When Michael started to play football, he had a rough start. He was uncertain of the concept and strategies. He did not understand how to block opponents and was yelled by the coach many times. However, the yelling did not help him improve. Instead, he became more confused. This was not Michaels learning behaviour so whenever he was coached in this specific way, he was not able to absorb anything that the coach had mentioned to help him improve. That was until Leigh stepped in. When Leigh observed how Michael was doing, she saw the flaw of how Michael was being coached. She took action and considered Michael s personality in account to how he performs. As mentioned above, in the beginning the school board had taken his personality test and scored 98% in protective instinct. Leigh used this opportunity to connect both Michael s personality and sports to teach him how to block. She related the football players to the family that he cares for. When Leigh and Michael first interacted, he brought her to the area he was born in. That area is known for violence and surrounded by those who live in poverty. While walking with Leigh around that neighbourhood, Michael promised to protect her if anything were to happen. Additionally, while S.J and Michael were in a car accident, Michael protected S.J by stopping the airbag from making contact with him. Leigh used these situations to exemplify that the team is Michael s family and it is his job to protect them from their opponents. She then illustrated that the quarterback is who he needed to protect as if the quarterback was Leigh herself. She continued by displaying that when Michael sees his ... • 34. Contents Of The Dead Man s Pocket The working class can relate to the theme of the short story Contents of the Dead Man s Pocket, by Jack Finney. More often than not, people strive to get to the top of their profession, but at what cost? The majority of people spend countless hours of their life working to provide for themselves and their loved ones. The irony of working all these hours to provide for your loved ones is that you will not see them nearly as much as desired because of work. In my opinion, the above passage is important to the story because Tom is now inside lying on the floor as a new man who knows what is important in life. Tom works for Wholesale Groceries and has been spending most of his free time off of work doing research on grocery store displays. The only copy of his research flies out of the window of his tenth story apartment due to a draft. In this moment, readers discover how obsessed Tom really is with work: He knew he was going out there in the darkness, after the yellow sheet fifteen feet beyond his reach (page 4). At this point in time, Tom is willing to risk everything, including his life, to ensure that he can elevate above his coworkers. This perilous behavior is the complete opposite from the Tom we read about in the above passage from the end of the story. Tom transitions from chasing a paper out on a ledge ten stories up, to laughing at the same paper flying back out of the window. Tom undergoes character growth throughout the story, but it is the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They know that the war was coming so they move to refugee camps in the united states and the other story What could a teenage boy living in the mountains of Switzerland have in common with a boy growing up in tropical Trinidad? Rudi in James Ramsey Ullman s A Boy and a Man and Santo in Sam Selvon s The Mouth Organ do come from very different places and have different interests and abilities. However, they both are faithful to their dreams. The contrasts between the two characters are obvious. Rudi is a rugged boy from the mountains of Switzerland. He shows courage and resourcefulness when he rescues Captain Winter from the crevasse into which he has fallen. This rescue is not completely surprising because Rudi has been brought up in a tradition of mountaineering. His father, killed in a climbing accident, was one of the greatest mountain guides in Switzerland. Unlike Rudi, Santo comes from a Caribbean island and has never seen snow. Also, in contrast with Rudi, Santo seems uninterested in athletics. He helps his father work in the fields, but he does not seem to be especially fond of exercise. On a deeper level, however, the two boys are very similar. Rudi s most important traits are his curiosity about mountaineering and his faithfulness to his dream of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two passages are about whether alcohol advertising should be limited. The proponents said that alcoholic beverage advertising should be restricted. In addition, the opponents claim that alcohol ads do not promote underage drinking. Both sides have given ample reasons to justify their views. The pros who persist that alcohol advertising should be restricted have their sound reasons. There are two strong scientific evidences suggest that influence of alcohol advertising are not limited to brand selection by adults. The first point lies in the research conducted by Joel W. Grube and Lawrence Wallack suggests that awareness of alcohol ads leads to favorable beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both views have strong foundations; but, overall, I tend to agree with the latter that alcohol advertising do not promote underage drinking. There are three factors to explain underage drinking. Firstly, a bad home environment can affect children s perception. If children grew up in the home where alcohol consumption is acceptable, for example, so it have a reason to think that they are already familiar with the products they see on television. I think parents and schools should to teach children that minors should not drink, rather than ban advertising. In another word, alcohol advertising did not seem to be impact on them. Secondly, advertising is protected by the constitution; this is known as commercial free speech, and the Supreme Court upheld that statement. Thirdly, there is no denying that genetic factors influence underage drinking. A study has shown that children of alcoholics are 4 to 10 times more likely than other children to become alcoholics too. Therefore, we should not attack alcohol advertising because it can be ignored, so let s pay attention to the specific reasons why minors drink ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cleopatr The Ruler Behind The Myth Final Paper | Cleopatra Unearthed: The Ruler Behind the Myth Adunola Sonaike HST323, Sect. 17196: Themes in Roman Republican and Imperial History Prof. Sandra Gambetti May 24th, 2015Introduction: Cleopatra Who? Who was Cleopatra? Who is Cleopatra? Portrayed as both goddess and monster in her own lifetime, through the ages she has become both saint and sinner, heroine and victim, femme fatale and star crossed lover, politician and voluptuary, black and white. A protean figure, Cleopatra defies categorization. 1 So began Prudence J. Jones introduction in her edited text, Cleopatra: A Sourcebook. Jones claims Cleopatra was a chameleon in the skin of an Egyptian Pharaoh. As such she molded herself to fit what would best procure her the much needed tactics to strengthen and maximize the power she inherited. As the world changed, so did their perception of Cleopatra; and, in turn every generation construed her differently: from evil seductress, ill fated star crossed lover to renewed empowering feminist icon. The Cleopatra painted in this paper will decidedly be more reserved, acutely un promiscuous, sharp witted, resilient, and less beautiful than her literary and culturally shambolic counterpart; the Cleopatra history wished to hide. One cannot help but to find Cleopatra tremendously impressive and more or less frightening. This woman was up against incredible odds, and before she knew it her story was over.
