What Role Does Active Listening Play In Health Care Analysis
In Chapter 5, The Author discuss the role of pervasive role of confirmation and empathy in health
care. Empathy is considered as an important part of the emotional intelligence which is defined as the
ability to understand and manage emotions of yourself and people around you. Empathy helps to build
trust and hope in patient provder relationship. Empathy or capability of emotional knowing is a part of
behavioral attribute that contribute to quality of social interaction. Author has informed about the
Jafferson Scale of Physician Emapathy (JSPE), which is used to evaluate empathy in healthcare
providers. Empathy is different from the sympathy. In sympathetic response, people use to feel pity
and sorry about the person. They are not able to feel the person in front of them , However in
empathetic response people engage themselves with other person s ... Show more content on

Active listening involves all channel of communication simultaneously visual, auditory and
kinesthetic to connect with patients. Active listening includes eye contact, right body posture and face
expression, verbal quality and verbal message to reflect that provider is understanding patient s
experience. Confirmation response used by healthcare providers works as significant healing aid. It
makes the patient feel worthy and unique as a person. Confirmation occurs through direct
acknowledgement, agreement about content, supportive response, attempts to clarify messages and
expression of positive feeling. Empathic response in patient provider relationship enhances the
therapeutic value by increasing connectedness and reducing alienation. Author has explained the steps
of empathic process as identification, incorporation, reverberation and detachment. The empathic
communication between patients and provider cannot be established because of various reasons
including provider barriers, patients barrier and environmental

How The Technology Behind Mmorpg Or Mmo Works Is That It...
Technologies behind MMORPG Description of how the technology behind MMORPG or MMO
works is that it runs on Client Technology and Server Technology. Client technology will typically
refer to the player s computer systems i.e. laptop/desktop/phones/phablets and the program that runs
on your computer. Server technology will be the one where all datas and the process calculation is
stored/processed and the machine that players connect to when they re ready to play. Client side of the
technology, it is a combination of play board of the game and the user interface used to interact with
the virtual game world. Every UIs that is present in this game, every characters, playable or not and of
course the landscape of the game will exist in files ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the client system does not have a high system specification (mainly the slow/old processors or low
memory in the graphics) then the game play can slow down rapidly. For this reason, many players
tend to find that they ll need to exceed the game s minimum system requirements in order to have a
good in game playing experience. Server technology is only activated if there is an input from the
client technology. In general terms, there server: Calculates and processes the location of in game

Energy Beverages
Author:
Ravi Sockalingam, PhD
Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. s brand manager Andrew Barker was tasked with recommending the
company s top management if it should decide to introduce a new branded product into the energy
beverage market.
A brief overview of the company s position
Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. maintains a well entrenched position in the flavored carbonated soft
drink (CSD) market. In 2007 he held a market share of the US CSD market. And this share had been
steadily growing year to year. The company is also a leader in the non CSD drink category that
comprises ready to drink tea, juice, juice drinks, enhanced water, drink concentrates and mixer
categories. In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the growth of CSD is expected to decline. Part of the company s strategy has been to invest in
developing innovative products. The recent use of natural flavors and no artificial preservatives, and
vitamins and proteins in their beverages differentiated Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc s products from
that of the competitors, and helped strengthen their profitability and growth.
The company also has sound knowledge of the marketing channels for the new product. They know
for fact that the highest profit margins from the introduction of a new energy drink would first come
from the convenience store channels in single serve packages. Besides, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.
had distributed Monster Energy in selected US territories on behalf of Hansen Natural Corporation.
What factors need to be considered in the decision making process by Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc.?
There are several forces that may potentially go against Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. introducing a
new product in the energy drink market.
There is danger that the company is betting its future based on its successful track record in
introducing leading brands in the crowded OSD and non OSD (including sports) drinks.
The energy drink market is, however, quite different from the OSD and the non OSD drinks the
company owns, distributes and sells.
The projected sales growth of 10.5% from 2007 to 2011 is in fact a low figure compared to an average
growth rate of 42.5 % from

Rocket Boy Quotes
To learn something and to understand something takes hard work and a willingness to learn it. The
quotes I had discovered that learning something, no matter how complex, wasn t hard when I had a
reason to want to know it. and All I ve done is give you a book, she said. You have to have the courage
to learn what s inside show that people have to put forth effort to get to know something and it is their
responsibility to learn it. It doesn t matter if you like something or dislike something, to actually learn
anything you have to want to learn it. In the book Rocket Boys Sonny learned that to make rockets it

Sonny also learned that he needed to be really good at math to be able to tell how high or how far his

but that he had to have the courage to learn about it. When Miss Riley says courage she means that he
can learn about the rockets, but he needs to be ready to face the difficulties and hard times he is going
to go through trying to actually build and foolproof the rockets. Miss Riley wanted Sonny to put
himself out there, learn as much as he could, and show everyone what he could do. In chapter 10
Sonny says, She kept smiling at me, and I felt at that moment like I was the most important person to

Research Paper On Audio Steganography
Abstract Abundant use of electronic communication has paved way for transmitting information
securely. Security has its importance and application in wide area. It is a measure of human
negligence, in desire to enclose the latest technological inventions. This measure may have drastic
effect on human conception to the positioning of application, which needs a determined concern in
terms of security. Audio steganography is the science of hiding some secret text or audio files in a host
audio file by using different algorithms to retrieve the original data. The main challenge in audio
steganography is to obtain high payload and efficiency.
There are wide varieties of techniques such as LSB, parity coding, phase coding, spread spectrum etc.,

Thus steganography is said to be a covert communication. In contrast to Cryptography, where the
enemy is allowed to detect, intercept and modify messages without being able to violate certain
security premises guaranteed by a cryptosystem, the goal of Steganography is to hide messages inside
other harmless messages in a way that does not allow any enemy to even detect that there is a presence
of second message [1]. Both steganography and cryptography are meant for secret communication but
the approach is different. Hiding of secret message using steganography can be done in different forms
like text steganography, image steganography, audio steganography and video steganography.
Encoding secret messages in audio is the most challenging task while using steganography because
human auditory system (HAS) is more perceptive than human visual system (HVS) [5]. Thus audio
file is used as a cover file to hide secret data and it is called audio steganography. In Audio
steganography, secret message is embedded into digitized audio signal which results into altering the
binary sequence of corresponding audio file. There are several methods are available for audio

Speech Language Pathology Intervention Paper
Introduction:
In the field of speech language pathology parent education and involvement in treatment programs can
be very beneficial to a client s progress(TEMPEL). Evidence supports the use of programs that
contain interactive approaches to speech and language intervention(LORRAINE). The importance of
education is often recognized but can be difficult to deliver. The challenge of providing an effective
parent/ caregiver education is an issue that Speech Language Pthologists may come in contact with.
While some speech language pathologists may choose to deliver parent education using their own
methodology , a large number may opt to participate in teaching methodology and coaching
framework model workshops. One of these coaching framework model workshops is the Hanen
Program. This program focuses on educating parents on how to facilitate ... Show more content on

Parents are very important to the intervention process so educating parents on how to facilitate their
child s language and speech could potentially be very helpful to the child s progress(ALEEN
MARHSall) Typical Speech Language Pathology intervention only happens at most for a 1 2 hours a
few times a week, but there are many opportunities to increase a child s speech and language outside
of therapy. Many parents are not aware of how to do this or the opportunities, which is why programs
such as Hanen were created.
The Hanen program seeks to educate parents on ways that they can provide language and speech
opportunities in a more naturalistic environment and foster language and speech development.

Believe it or not, Pit bulls can be good dogs. They can be good rescuers or they can be dangerous. It
all depends on who they are raised by. If they are raised by a loveable family they will most likely be a

Boy s Murders In The Film Paradise Lost
The film Paradise Lost documents the case of the deaths of three West Memphis children, as three
teenage boys are put on trial for the speculation of their murders. Jessie Misskelley Jr., Damien
Echols, and Jason Baldwin are the suspects in question. The three second grade boys were found to
have been choked, raped, and sexually mutilated before their murders. Sources in West Memphis
report that Misskelley, Echols, and Baldwin are worshippers of Satan and the murders were committed
as a ritual act to praise Satan. West Memphis is a highly religious town, and the majority of its
members attend church regularly and live their daily lives according to Christian values. At the end of

Members of the community thought the boys to being worshippers of Satan because of their apparent
taste for wearing black and listening to heavy suggestive music like Metallica. In this community that
was noted to be outlier behavior, since the majority of the members lived conservative, Christian
lifestyles. Since the teenagers expressed different interests than the majority of the community they
were an easy pick for the suspects of the killings. Even Damien Echols stated that they were the
obvious choice, because they already stood out from the rest. The minority attacking the majority is
called a centripetal attack. This upward attack is directed from the margins to the center meaning the
minority attack is directed towards the majority. This attracts centrifugal law which works against the
minority attackers. Centrifugal law is greater than the opposite, centripetal law, so it is considered
more serious for the margin to commit crimes against the socially integrated. This goes along with the
idea that the unconventionality of the boys allowed them to be targets and therefore subject to more
law against them. The lifestyle of these boys was seen as unconventional considering the environment
where they lived. As mentioned before, the people of West Memphis are God loving people who put
faith above all else in their daily lives. The way these

ways to evaluate an organization s success at increasing diversity is to compare the percentage of

Multicultural Counseling
In the profession of counseling, one must be aware of the copious amounts of cross cultural
relationships that are realistically going to be put into action throughout a competent career. To a
degree, all people come from different backgrounds and it is significant to the counselor to
comprehend and apply the basic foundations of building alliances with any client. There are different
levels of how people from diverse cultures learn to adapt to one another and being able to build
relations can at times need a counselor. Therefore putting cultural competency and acceptance at the
top of the counseling profession credentials. Within a cross cultural relationship, trust is seen as the
indispensable element. According to Johnson Bailey Cervero ... Show more content on

No matter the individuals circumstances, the person in need of counseling has no particular face, body,
or sexual preference. Despair has no bias. As reported by the United States Census Bureau (2015),
there is over 3 million people in America, and of those people at least eight million adults identify as
gay, lesbian, or bisexual (Advocate, 2011). These numbers represent a demand that will be in our
population for counseling, and with that must emerge new and innovative ways of therapy integration.
As we continue to research and discover more about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), we
as counselors will be able to seek out resources, training, and experience when working across the sex
and gender barriers. Although we have an estimate of the population of individuals who define
themselves to be a part of the LGBT community, there are only more individuals who are feeling
confused and are harboring sexual attractions and behaviors within. This knowledge is imperative to
grasp in the counseling profession because many individuals may not feel open enough to talk about
such new controversial issues. A clear understanding of what the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgender community undergoes is the first step in becoming competent enough to providing a
positive moving cross cultural experience for both client and counselor. According to AMCD
Multicultural Counseling Competencies, Culturally skilled counselors should familiarize themselves
with relevant research and the latest findings regarding mental health and mental disorders that affect
various ethnic and racial groups. They should actively seek out educations experiences that enrich
their knowledge, understanding and cross cultural skills for more effective counseling behavior

Stereotypes In Professional Sports
Ask any sports fan what is your favorite day and they would most likely respond that it s game day.
Sports fans show team spirit for their sports teams by wearing their colors, singing chants about them
or most commonly shouting their team names to pick at fans of other teams and rivals. If your favorite
sports team s name is influenced by Native Americans then you may not want to shout that to anyone.
The teams that are named after Native Americans are under fire, especially if you are a Washington
Redskins fan. The Redskins are a team that is getting fire from the public for having a derogatory
nickname representing Native Americans. Some people argue that it is offensive for the team from our
nation s capital to have the name Redskins because it s disrespectful to a race of people. There are
other sports teams that have a Native American name but they are getting less attention, but it is not
right to change just one name, you have to change the names of the other teams to eliminate the
problem entirely.

fans do the Tomahawk Chop It is a stereotype because the fans think that s how Indians behaved.

group of people, don t join in but instead think about what it actually means. Stereotypes have a big

Explain How To Promote Effective Communication
HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
Communicate is essential in health and social care settings because without a good communication to
patients, families, colleagues and management is very difficult to deliver good service of care.
A care worker needs to listen their patients needs and respond to them with professionalism.
Facial expression, eye contact, active listening, nonverbal communication, clarifying messages,
empathy, use of body language and appropriate language tone and pace are all results of effective
communication.
When a service user have some moral issues or any type of issues the service provider needs to have
empathy on the service user and try to put themselves in the position of the service user because it will

Having support from your colleagues is an informal support on the other hand having support from a
doctor is a formal support because doctors a qualified professional people.
Between workers is important to build trust and maintain confidentiality.
Some example of barriers to communication are use of jargon, physical barriers, cultural differences,
impairments, different language and patronising communication.
Jargon is when people express technical words throughout a conversation.
Physical barriers to communication is when people are trying to communicate and something are
stopping them to communicate well for example a place which there is a lot of noise could be a barrier
for them to have a conversation.
Some physical can be someone who have difficulties to understand because of limitation of vision,
hear, difficulties to talk.
A common communication barrier is the difficulties to speak the mother language of a country well.
To be a good carer is important that you communicate very calmly with your service user and never
lose your temper because it could make worse the service user

The Journey At Jet s Pizza Parlor
I was working the late shift again at Jet s Pizza Parlor. It was 10:46, 15 minutes till my shift ends,
when my boss got a phone call. I was finishing up cleaning the countertops, when my boss came in
and told me I needed to make a delivery. He didn t tell me much other than our model, We deliver
anywhere. So I paused my work and picked up the two small pizzas from the front desk and did what I
was told. I walked outside into the chilly October night. I hopped into the car and tossed the pizzas in
the back. I had just gotten promoted last week; the other guy had quit. I turned the car and glanced at
the address, punching the numbers into the GPS and taking off. The GPS took me to the main road,
interstate 94. I was only on the interstate for about 7 minutes when the GPS suddenly took me into the
rural part of town. Before long I was traveling on a pitch black, narrow dirt road surrounded by dense
forest. It was late and I was tried. My boss had told me I could go home after my delivery was done
and that s all I could think about. A couple of more miles of passing nothing and I would be done. I
started to slow the car down as the GPS pointed the way to the house. It was dark and I could hardly
see anything as I came to a stop. The GPS had reached its final destination. In front of me was a dark
dirt walkway that led up to an old creepy house that looked like something from a horror story.

Why Do Mathematical Equations And Formulas Are Difficult...
Part A
1. One of the things I have the easiest time remembering is numbers, especially phone numbers. I also
find it easy to remember the names of people that I have met. Mathematical equations and formulas
are very easy for me to remember too. Things that are difficult for me to remember include lists of
items, especially grocery lists. I also have difficulty remembering dates in history as well as people s
faces.
2. Prior knowledge helped me learn how to find the partial derivatives of equations. I learned how to
find normal derivatives in my Calculus I class and how to find partial derivatives in my Calculus III
class. Knowing all the derivative rules from Calculus I made it much easier when having to find

4. The processes of encoding and retrieval work much like that of a filing cabinet system. Our brain
encoding some piece of information would be analogous to a piece of paper being filed away while
retrieval would be analogous to finding a paper that was previously filed. Furthermore, in class, we
discussed how we may not always remember events exactly how they actually happened. This would
be analogous to how paper in the filing system may yellow or become worn over time, so when it is
retrieved, it is not exactly the same as when it was first filed away.
5. I have a script for when I first start a class at the beginning of the semester. I first stake out a seat in
the classroom, close to the front of the room because I know from experience that often times the seat
you are in on the first day of class remains your seat until the end of the semester. This script also
guides how I behave in class, which typically involves being quiet and kept to myself. In addition, this
script guides to what extent I participate in class. For example, when an instructor presents a question
to the class, I offer an answer.

Is this truly a serious initiative for Walmart to use their size for good or is this just greenwashing?
Since their CSR plan announcement Walmart has been making progress towards achieving those goals
but many don t think it s enough or realistically sustainable for the long run. Walmart has received
backlash for their slow adoption of renewable energy, it s cheap products, and it s little progress on
their sustainability index (Gunther, M., 2011). One of Wal mart s initiatives intended to address some
of their inimical externalities is to convert to 100% renewable energy to power their stores. An article
published in 2011 stated that Walmart was powered by only 2% of renewable energy and the ILSR
came out with a report stating less than 2% of renewable energy powers Walmart stores. People were
not impressed with this minimal progress and pointed out that other companies like Starbucks and
Kohls use more renewable energy than Walmart. It was also pointed out that Wal mart is a huge
multinational corporation and that a process like this will take time, especially if they re trying to
avoid raising their costs, which in turn would not benefit the customers. However, in 2013 it was
reported that Wal Mart s 10,800 stores are powered by 21% of renewable energy, which is a decent

Moral Disengagement And Bullying Behavior In Adolescents
Moral development is how an individual differentiates from right and wrong actions. This can be
influenced in many ways and by many people such as an individual s own personal experience,

However, Kohlberg mentioned that because of the differences in cognitive functioning, not every

Emotions And The Human Race
There are many answers to why emotions are important. Emotions serve several purposes. Emotions
play a vital role in how we think and behave. Emotions influence our actions, our outlook, and our
personal characteristics. Emotions help us grow and survive. Emotions help us make decisions.
Emotions help people understand one another. The list goes on and on because emotions are key to the
existence of the human race. Without emotions the human race would be unable to function physically
or mentally.
According to the evolutionary approach to emotions, emotions are very important. They are the key to
animal and human survival. Evolution states that emotions are passed on through genetic replication.

Hardwired emotions are associated with the nervous system. It s detection of stimuli and recognition
of stimuli helps to decide what to do and then do it. Without this we would not be able to respond to
emotional encounters. For example, we need the stimulus, to thalamus, to emotion and response to be
able to react when we see a man with a gun. Without this brain and body connection to emotions, you
wouldn t be able to respond to threatening situations, decreasing your chances of survival. The
biological approach to emotions is important because it connects the brain to the body in order to help
further the survival of a species through interpretation of a situation and reacting to it.
The cognitive approach to emotions explains how people s emotions depend on their appraisal of an
occurrence. Appraisal of a situation can determine the relevance of a situation. There are two types of
appraisal, primary and secondary appraisal. They can help determine whether a situation is beneficial
to someone and if so how they might benefit from the situation or if a situation is dangerous and if so
how to cope. Appraisals are quick. The cognitive part of this is the emotion that occurs from the
situation. For example, when you feel something, rather than just reacting quickly, reflecting on what
appraisal you made leads you to that feeling. If you change the appraisal, you can change how you
feel. The feeling attached to that appraisal determines

Free Will Arguments
Even thought the idea that everyone has free will is widely accepted and appreciated, it is obvious that
by the very definition of the word free no such thing can exist. The idea that free will exists has been
supported by several arguments against the idea that the everything in the world has been previously
determined rather than arguments that are actually for the existence of free will. This is a very key
point in the argument that free will has never and can never exist. If free will is not actually free then it
cannot be considered free will. If free will isn t free will then it has never been free will and can never
be free will. If there has never been and will never be free will, then we cannot have free will. Thus,
we do not have free will. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main argument seems to be that we have free will because we have the choice to do one thing or
another thing. This, however, is not freedom. Everyday I am made to think that I have the freedom to
choose what I want to eat for lunch. When I arrive at the commons, I have a limited amount of
options. At the Panini grill, I can choose between a turkey and cranberry Panini or a Caprese Panini.
Do I really have the freedom to choose what Panini I want for lunch? No, I don t. I have a limited
number of options meaning I have a limited freedom. If my freedom is limited, it is not free and
therefore is not actual freedom.
By definition, the word free implies without hindrance. In this sense, the only literal rather than
applied sense of the word, freedom can be found nowhere. Humans are only free to do what their
bodies and the laws of nature permit them to do. They are only free to speak in words that are
available in the language and with sounds that their mouths limit. They are free to think only what the
brain will let them. The fact that there are so many constraints on all possibilities just ensures the fact
that there is indeed no true

Case Study of Developmental Theories Essays
Maslow s hierarchy of needs can be presented in a pyramid, featuring the most basic and necessary
needs for survival in the bottom levels. The hierarchy of needs says that we must fulfil our needs in a
particular order; the lowest level must be fulfilled first before being able to move up the pyramid.
Reference: http://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html The first level of the hierarchy is the
physiological needs, which include, the need for food, water, shelter and warmth. Most people should
achieve this as a baby. These are the needs that are necessary for survival. Without these it is
impossible for a human to function. The second level of the hierarchy is safety needs, which include,
the need for security (financially, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last level is self actualisation, which is the hardest level to achieve. This level is where a person
realises their full potential and works to be the best that they can be. This can be achieved anywhere
from mid adulthood. To achieve this level of the hierarchy a person must not only fulfil the other
levels, but they must master them. In the case study, Amy seems to be in the love and belonging level.
It s evident that Amy is in a safe, secure environment and that her physiological needs are taken care
of. Amy lives comfortably with her family, meaning she has achieved the first two levels of Maslow s
hierarchy of needs. This makes it possible for Amy to be beginning to achieve the third level. Amy s
strong and positive relationship with her older sister Claire and her strong bond with her grandparents
convey the loving relationships and the acceptance that is needed to achieve this level. Amy gains a
sense of belonging and acceptance through the group of friends outside of her life at home as well.
Piaget s theory states that there are four different stages in cognitive development. These stages are the
Sensorimotor stage, Pre operational stage, Concrete Operational stage and the Formal Operational
stage. The first stage, Sensorimotor occurs from birth to two years. This stage was based off of the
ideas and images we have about what things are and how we use or deal with them or schemas. Much

A Summary On The Business Industry
5 Fascinating Movies About Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs are the flavour of the year and today everyone is either one or on the way to becoming
one. Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved
by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur
is the new black. In fact those of us who are 30 plus would still remember that just two to three
decades back, being an entrepreneur, especially if you were male, meant that you were either morally
bankrupt or worse stupid, and either of which, by the way, substantially brought down your value in
the marriage market.
But times are a changing, the days ahead are heady, and for those who have or are planning to take the
plunge, here are five films that are worth watching. They are not just inspiring, you might even pick
up a few business and even life lessons in the process.
Tom Cruise plays the title role in Jerry Maguire (1996), and works for a sports management company
as their star agent. He is fired when he writes and circulates a memo pointing out the wrongs of their
business. It is then that he decides to build from scratch a business based on his newly discovered
philosophy. And in that he has the support of just one athlete, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and one
employee, played by Renée Zellweger. Jerry realizes it is easier said than done, learns a lot along the
journey, and teaches us a few things:

Appropriate Court Decisions In Court Cases
A court precedent is earlier cases that have similar issues. Each court decision is based on an earlier
decision in court from previous years. To show that constitutional rights have been violated, courts
point to good court decisions in earlier cases and describe how the facts in those cases are similar to
the facts in that particular case. They have to show how the general principles of constitutional law
presented in the earlier decisions apply to the situation. Today, all courts are essentially bound to
follow earlier court decisions. For example, if a state Supreme Court issues a decision, all lower courts
are bound to follow that decision. (Siegel, Schmalleger, and Worrall, 2014) Quite naturally times have
changed since most of the decisions

British Imperialism Essay
Imperialism for the British and other countries were on a rise during this time. Most of Africa was
imperialized and it was time to imperialize other parts of land in the Middle East and Asia. The total
imperialization of Muslim lands in the Middle East provided a short cut to get to the eastern part of
Asia. This little water pathway is called the Suez Canal and the British took over this area from the
Ottomans. This provided a direct target for imperialism in India for the British. India became the
Jewel in the Crown for the fellow British people. Due to British imperialism in India brought positive
aspects of earnings of natural and raw resources, and controlled trade in India, and proved the
superiority of the White race for Great Britian. India was able to modernize, British protection from
outside threats, and literarcy and public health improved also. British Imperialism in India also
brought negative aspects of revolts and rebellions from India for Great Britian. India s industries
crumbled and Indian tradition life was restricted. British imperialism affected the positive prospects of
earnings of natural and raw resources, the controlled trade in India, and provement of the superiority
of the white race for Great Britian. India modernized their country, gained protection form Great
Britian, and literarcy and public health prospered as well. The most probable motivation of
imperialization was to gain natural and raw resources to be able to produce products and

Lois Lowry s Number The Stars
An effective children s book is one that leaves an impression on the reader as well as leaves them
wanting more. When children are first being introduced to reading, they want books to appeal to their
level and interests. Number the Stars, written by Lois Lowry, is an example of a book that is a
stepping stone to longer and more challenging books but still challenges the younger reader. This
chapter book is set in the time during the Second World War and focuses on Jewish families that are
fighting to escape Nazi lead Germany. Number The Stars, focuses on a girl named Annemarie that is

For students, Number The Stars is centered on a ten year old girl named Annemarie. The book tells
about the struggles that she goes through and how she shows courage to overcome her doubts to do
unthinkable things. When the main character is close to the age of the reader, they have the chance to
make comparisons, even if the book is not necessarily real life events. It is easy to make personal
connections to characters that are similar to reader rather than different. It can be difficult for a young
reader to identify with a story about an extremely old character. If these connections can be made
between the reader and the content, the book becomes engaging and worth reading. Failure to find
books that are relatable can lead to children never wishing to read. In the case of Number The Stars,
Lowry has a younger child as the center and allows for children to relate to it. Similar to this, the
theme of the story is something that makes Number The Stars an effective book for

Primarily, gender expectations for men are used to show power, control, and typecast the characters as
manly. The men in the tragedy, including the serving men, are shown degrading women and using
them to look better. During the quarrel between the serving men at the beginning of the tragedy, the
rape, and murder of women, being the weaker vessels, are used to show superiority between the two
feuding families and the insignificance women play. In the conversation, the serving men, are talking
about the disputing families and what they would do the Montague maids to show that they are more

The three notable poets of the Victorian age became similarly absorbed in social issues. Beginning as
a poet of pure romantic escapism, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, soon moved on to problems of religious
faith, social change, and political power. All the characteristic moods of his poetry, from brooding
splendor to lyrical sweetness, are expressed with smooth technical mastery. His style, as well as his
peculiarly English conservatism, stands in some contrast to the intellectuality and bracing harshness of
the poetry of Robert Browning. Matthew Arnold, the third of these mid Victorian poets, stands apart
from them as a more subtle and balanced thinker his literary criticism is the most remarkable written

rapidly changing times, a pessimism countered, however, by a strong sense of duty. (English) World

age. The optimism of previous decades was abandoned and a bleak, pessimistic outlook on life

Another example of cognitive development is joining other in observing and discussing about
butterflies. According to Gonzalez Mena (2010), teachers should ensure children s cognitive
development is given plenty of opportunities to be nurtured and extended through small collaborative
groups. After the discussions Sarah was still interested in the butterflies, and while in the art area used
her reflection skills to create a drawing depicting a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Therefore,
creativity is important in promoting cognitive development and should be either planned or
spontaneous (Gonzalez Mena Widmeyer Eyer, 2012). Thus, ensuring the learning environment
stimulate and encourages a child s curiosity, and allows for free exploration. In Piaget s theory of
cognitive development, it is emphasise that children learn through exploring and creating their world.
The theory viewed cognitive development as stages. Based on those ideas in the theory a four year
olds cognitive development is viewed as the preoperative stage, where a child is able to use symbols

Eyer, 2012). Therefore, both observations three and four have can be used as a reflection of Sarah s

promote behavior changes, new cultural awareness as well as similarities. My question is, was this
difficult for Miner to accept?
In conclusion I would like to point out that, Ellin (2008) explained that when Horace Miner in 1956,

with the body that contributed to masochistic tendencies including annual visit to holy men (dentist);
and weekly head baking by women (using hair dryers); lacerating the face with sharp instrument by
men (shaving); and he discusses the ritual fast to make fat people thin ( Life support: Nacirema redux

All of the above mentioned forms of botulism can be fatal and should be considered a medical
emergency. Foodborne botulism is a public health emergency because many people can be
contaminated. What kind of germ is Clostridium botulinum? Clostridium botulinum is an anaerobic,
Gram positive, spore forming rod that produces a potent neurotoxin. (U.S. Food and Drug
Administration, 2015) This germ can be found in soil, is rod shaped, it also thrives in a low oxygen
environment. This germ creates spores that lay dormant until they come into conditions that foster
their growth and support. There are seven categories of botulinum toxin. Letters specify those types.
Those categories are A, B, C, D, E, F. Categories A, B, E, and F are the only types that cause illness in
humans. What is the frequency of Botulinum Toxin? The incidence of the disease is low, but the
mortality rate is high if not treated immediately and properly. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration,
2015) The United States has averaged one hundred forty five reported cases of Botulism a year.
Fifteen percent of those being foodborne, sixty five percent being infant Botulism, and twenty percent
being wound Botulism. (CDC, 2015) The frequency of the disease is low, but the mortality rate is high
if not treated immediately and properly. Some cases of botulism may be undiagnosed or misdiagnosed
because the symptoms are transient or mild, and mimic Guillain Barre syndrome. Symptoms of

Are Homeless People Right Or Wrong
Is it wrong to stare at someone after they fall rather than help them? Is it right to give money to a

must decide whether something is right or wrong before we do it, or it ll be considered immoral or
wrong. With this stigma in mind, is the difference between right and wrong clear? How are we
affected by this kind of thought process? Though many people perceive right and wrong as a singular,
definitive, or one sided, statement where as something can ONLY be right or wrong, it is much more
complex than that. Right and wrong is relative, in need of variables, or in our case, in need of
circumstances. A long time ago, I read an article that said a group of scientists took a sample ... Show

Nearly all of the kids said the man was wrong for committing a crime of stealing, while everyone
north of 14 years old had said that it was justified because they were homeless. It is this gap of
judgement that helps define the difference between right and wrong. Without taking personal feelings
into consideration, you can conclude that there is no right or wrong, what is right to one may be wrong
to others, you can even use that logic to the statement i just made! From the moment we are able to
comprehend spoken language and/or communicate through some other method, we are taught that
there is a right and wrong without being able to fully grasp the content of a situation. This leads to
kids to decide that something is right or wrong without putting any thought into their answer. Even
considering that judgement skills aren t fully developed, to some it might cause them to think in that

This day in age, contracting cholera is not something people worry about in the United States. The
United States was able to escape this worry because of effective public health measures and other

Cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, found in contaminated waters. Symptoms of
cholera include diarrhea, dehydration, increased heart rate, muscle cramps, low blood pressure, and
dry mouth, throat, nose and eyelids (WebMD 2014). In industrialized countries, the implementation of

Cholera, transmitted by contaminated food and water. When the disease arrived in New York City in
summer 1832, after traveling over trade routes from India through Russia and Europe across the
Atlantic to Canada and down the Hudson River Valley, thousand of citizens died within weeks.
Cholera struck again in 1849 and 1866 before New Yorkers learned how to contain the disease.
Measuring the reaction of New Yorkers to these increasingly traumatic public health disasters shows
how understandings of disease were filtered through contemporary ideas about class and social
relations, conceptions of immigrants, and thinking about the responsibilities of the city s government
in issues of public health in mid nineteenth century New York. The first documented case of cholera
was on June 24, 1832 in NYC (McNamara 2015). In the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York
City, they often lived in poor conditions with compacted living areas. Along with immigrants, there
was a small free black community in Manhattan ( History of Cholera in NYC 2012). So the city was
packed with different people from all over, many were living in poverty and horses and pigs ran freely
in the streets. The environment became crowded and dirty, the perfect breeding ground for disease.
Without a proper sewage system, human waste found its way into the City s water supply. As the
population of the City grew denser, several outbreaks of cholera occurred. Nearly 100,00 people fled
to the countryside, when cholera hit the NYC (McNamara 2015). Many wealthy New Yorkers and
those more well off, fled the city during cholera outbreaks in search of more hospitable environment.
Those who owned buildings throughout the city refused to lease their spaces for hospitals, in fear of
contamination. Most doctors worked to reduce the suffering of cholera victims. During that time,

Examples Of Imagery In Babel
I think beneath the surface this story is about the horrors of war and the way people involved become
desensitized to it. In this story, the two horrors of war that stand out the most are poverty and death.
Poverty is largely shown when the main character goes to his assigned living quarters. It is obvious
that the pregnant women and the three Jews are living in poverty based on the description we get of
how they are living. A couple ways death is depicted in the story is with the following lines, the stench
of yesterday s blood and slaughtered horses drips into the evening chill and his gullet has been ripped
out, his face hacked in two, and dark blood is clinging to his beard like a clump of lead. The smell of
yesterday s blood and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We only get the story in the point of view of the father. We don t see the full point of view of the
mother while her baby is tearing out pages. We don t know what she is thinking of the whole matter.
We also don t see the baby s point of view and why it is choosing to tear out pages, despite being
punished. As a reader, this left me with questions. A few questions I was left with were why the baby
was doing this and did it even know what it was doing? Also, why the mother let this punishment
continue for so long? We only know what the father is thinking and how he is handling things with the

YEAR: 2012 Yank s initial space in the world which defines his self is, eventually, shattered by the
intruding gaze of Mildred. His search has to do with a displacement, a spiritual emptiness and an
isolation that challenge his former lifestyle. As his initial reality disintegrates, Yank tries to reconcile

(Abudullah Al Dulaimy, 2011: 5) It is well known that Yank relies in his vision of societal structure on
the basis of belonging, that is why by the begining, he thinks he has found an equilibrium in life and
he is happy with his work. Therefore, he has the reputation of being a hard and very effective worker
among his companions and he is pleased and comfortable with his present circumstances. (Aloostany,
2011:1) His feeling of completeness is well described by O Neill. He depicts him as a part as an
important piece for the mechanical world he venerates, he is the brute force that makes the engines of
the ship work. (Abudullah Al Dulaimy, 2011: 6) I m de ting in gold dat makes it money! And I m what
make iron into steel! Steel, dat stands for de whole ting! And I m steel steel steel! I m de muscles in
steel, de punch behind it! (O Neill, 1922: 13) Yank feels he is a valuable person for the first time when
he enters the company, he feels comfortable and settled there, since during his chilhood he had been
foresaken, he felt at home in the ship s furnace. (Abudullah Al Dulaimy, 2011: 5) Human traits are lost
in the middle of the American Capitalist structure. The community became immersed in luxuries and
overlooked the spiritual world around them. People became mere employees, their morality

Diesel Mechanics Research Paper
As a child I would always want to go with my Dad in his semi. Any time he would be leaving in it I
would always beg to go. Then as I got older when he would work on it I would always be right there
helping him. Sometimes I would just be handing him tools other times I would be right next to him
helping take parts off and on. Ever since a young kid I have always wanted to be a diesel mechanic.
Diesel mechanics do a variety of things revolving around diesel engines. Diesel mechanics use a
variety of tools to inspect and repair diesel engines either for a small local shop or a manufacture shop.
They change brakes, change fluids, and repair worn out parts. (Amoia) Diesel mechanics have to
closely examine all the parts on a diesel engine to diagnose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However most employers like their employees to have some kind of postsecondary training (U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics). The kind of training that employers are looking for are either some kind
of vocation school training or on the job training. Most employers want their diesel mechanics to also
have an ASE certification (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
Diesel mechanics can have a high pay rate depending on where they live and what company they work
for. In the United States the median pay rate is $19 an hour while in Oklahoma the median pay rate is
$20.32 (Diesel Mechanic in Oklahoma City Salary ). Diesel mechanics earn a whole lot more in rural
states than in more urban states. Diesel mechanics can earn more at a mechanic shop like MHC
Kenworth than at local shop. Most people think that since diesel mechanics have a big pay rate to get
more people doing it the job is on a decline.
Diesel mechanics has a pretty large job growth outlook. The job outlook of diesel mechanics is 12% in
the next 10 years (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Diesel mechanics are needed because of more
freight. Diesel trucks are being used more and more so more diesel mechanics will be needed (U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics). As more semis are being driven so freight can get destinations faster
diesel mechanics are needed so they can work on the semis and keep them

Analysis Of The Man From Snowy River
Both The Man from Snowy River and Return to Snowy River are set in Australia and are about wild
horses, mountain men and Australian gold. However, there are some elements that set them apart. The
details that set the first movie apart from the second are the photography of scenery used in the film,
the quick development of the plot throughout the film, and also the first film can be categorized in
many genres such as Comedy, Western, and Romance. The Man from Snowy River is clearly better
than the second installment Return to Snowy River. The first movie, The Man from Snowy River, is
set in the late 1880 s in the mountains of Australia. From the beginning one can admire the beautiful
camerawork in capturing a sunset with a silhouette

Disadvantages Of Weed Infestation
Weed infestation has been known to cause substantial reductions in crop yields thereby obstructing
sustainable agriculture (Ayeni et al., 2013). Weed competition was identified by Mbanje et al. (2001)
as the most important factor for yield reduction in both commercial and communal farming in
Zimbabwe. Weeds threat had forced farmers to use synthetic herbicides which have detrimental effects
on the environment. Synthetic herbicides are also expensive and are not readily available for
communal farmers use. Chemical and mechanical weed management reduce profitability in crop
production since these methods are expensive. Recent efforts are being intensified on finding
alternative strategies for weed management. The need for safe food production has developed steadily
over the years as a result of consciousness about food quality and environmental concerns regarding
agrochemicals used in agriculture. Such efforts include the use of allelochemicals which are believed
to be much safer than synthetic herbicides. Crops/plants release chemicals i.e allelochemicals which
could be utilized for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chemical and mechanical weed control methods are associated with many disadvantages. There is
need to improve the cultural methods of weed management such as the use of allelopathy. Sorghum
has allelopathic properties which reduce weed germination and growth but is not known whether
different varieties produce different levels of allelochemicals. Knowing sorghum varieties with best
allelepathic effects on the common weeds will help in reducing weed problems in Zimbabwe. Local
studies have not shown the extent to which sorghum allelopathy can suppress germination and growth
of Acanthospermum hispidum and Elusine Indica. The extent to which soil type affects allelopathic
weed control has not been shown by local

Feminist Icon Betty Friedan Testified
On January 29th, 1970, feminist icon Betty Friedan testified before the Senate Judicial committee to
protest the appointment of Judge George Harrold Carswell to Supreme Court
Justice. With this testimony, Friedan hoped to persuade the committee to reject Carswell s nomination.
In her testimony, Friedan was clear, concise, and effective. Friedan employed many different
techniques to provide examples and backings for her assertions. Within the first few sentences of her
speech, the activist establishes credibility and states her reason for being there. As president of the
National Organization of Women, known informally as N.O.W., Betty Friedan speaks out against the
discrimination against women in the employment, education, and in all ... Show more content on

Friedan also uses statistics to remind the court that 4.1 million mothers in the working force have
children under the age of six and that they comprise 38.9 percent of the nearly 10.6 million mothers in
the labor force today (Friedan). The activist continues to use evidential elements and statistics in her
testimony, stating for every mother of children who worked in 1940, ten mothers are working today,
an increase from slightly over 1.5 million to nearly 11 million (Friedan). Friedan also makes point that
a man applying for the same position would not be denied because he was father to pre school aged
children. The use factual evidence makes many of Friedan s assertions irrefutable and provides solid
backing for her case against Carswell. However, Friedan does not just use factual evidence. The
activist also appeals to emotions in her testimony, and although this may not be the most effective tool
against her targeted audience, it does give her backing beyond the factual. Friedan asks the committee
to place themselves in the shoes of those she fights for, and asks for empathy. To paraphrase, Friedan
asks them to imagine themselves being denied for reelection, or applying for a job at a company or
law firm or university and being told they are ineligible simply because they had a child (Friedan).
After painting this picture for the committee, Friedan hits back with a question, asking then how do
you feel about appointing to the Supreme Court a man who has said

In contrast to Cryptography, where the enemy is allowed to detect, intercept and modify messages without being able to violate certain security premises guaranteed by a cryptosystem, the goal of Steganography is to hide messages inside other harmless messages in a way that does not allow any enemy to even detect that there is a presence of second message [1]. Both steganography and cryptography are meant for secret communication but the approach is different. Hiding of secret message using steganography can be done in different forms like text steganography, image steganography, audio steganography and video steganography. Encoding secret messages in audio is the most challenging task while using steganography because human auditory system (HAS) is more perceptive than human visual system (HVS) [5]. Thus, we do not have free will. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main argument seems to be that we have free will because we have the choice to do one thing or another thing. This, however, is not freedom. Everyday I am made to think that I have the freedom to choose what I want to eat for lunch. When I arrive at the commons, I have a limited amount of options. At the Panini grill, I can choose between a turkey and cranberry Panini or a Caprese Panini. Do I really have the freedom to choose what Panini I want for lunch? No, I don t. I have a limited number of options meaning I have a limited freedom. If my freedom is limited, it is not free and therefore is not actual freedom. By definition, the word free implies without hindrance. In this sense, the only literal rather than applied sense of the word, freedom can be found nowhere. Humans are only free to do what their bodies and the laws of nature permit them to do. They are only free to speak in words that are available in the language and with sounds that their mouths limit. They are free to think only what the brain will let them. The fact that there are so many constraints on all possibilities just ensures the fact that there is indeed no true ... The hierarchy of needs says that we must fulfil our needs in a particular order; the lowest level must be fulfilled first before being able to move up the pyramid. Reference: http://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html The first level of the hierarchy is the physiological needs, which include, the need for food, water, shelter and warmth. The last level is self actualisation, which is the hardest level to achieve. This level is where a person realises their full potential and works to be the best that they can be. This can be achieved anywhere from mid adulthood. To achieve this level of the hierarchy a person must not only fulfil the other levels, but they must master them. In the case study, Amy seems to be in the love and belonging level. It s evident that Amy is in a safe, secure environment and that her physiological needs are taken care of. Amy lives comfortably with her family, meaning she has achieved the first two levels of Maslow s hierarchy of needs. This makes it possible for Amy to be beginning to achieve the third level. Amy s strong and positive relationship with her older sister Claire and her strong bond with her grandparents convey the loving relationships and the acceptance that is needed to achieve this level. Amy gains a sense of belonging and acceptance through the group of friends outside of her life at home as well. Piaget s theory states that there are four different stages in cognitive development. Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur is the new black. But times are a changing, the days ahead are heady, and for those who have or are planning to take the plunge, here are five films that are worth watching. To show that constitutional rights have been violated, courts point to good court decisions in earlier cases and describe how the facts in those cases are similar to the facts in that particular case. They have to show how the general principles of constitutional law presented in the earlier decisions apply to the situation. When the disease arrived in New York City in summer 1832, after traveling over trade routes from India through Russia and Europe across the Atlantic to Canada and down the Hudson River Valley, thousand of citizens died within weeks. Cholera struck again in 1849 and 1866 before New Yorkers learned how to contain the disease. Measuring the reaction of New Yorkers to these increasingly traumatic public health disasters shows how understandings of disease were filtered through contemporary ideas about class and social relations, conceptions of immigrants, and thinking about the responsibilities of the city s government in issues of public health in mid nineteenth century New York. The first documented case of cholera was on June 24, 1832 in NYC (McNamara 2015). In the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York City, they often lived in poor conditions with compacted living areas. (Abudullah Al Dulaimy, 2011: 5) It is well known that Yank relies in his vision of societal structure on the basis of belonging, that is why by the begining, he thinks he has found an equilibrium in life and he is happy with his work. Therefore, he has the reputation of being a hard and very effective worker among his companions and he is pleased and comfortable with his present circumstances. (Aloostany, 2011:1) His feeling of completeness is well described by O Neill. He depicts him as a part as an important piece for the mechanical world he venerates, he is the brute force that makes the engines of the ship work. • 40. Diesel Mechanics Research Paper As a child I would always want to go with my Dad in his semi. Any time he would be leaving in it I would always beg to go. Diesel mechanics do a variety of things revolving around diesel engines. Diesel mechanics use a variety of tools to inspect and repair diesel engines either for a small local shop or a manufacture shop. They change brakes, change fluids, and repair worn out parts. • 42. Disadvantages Of Weed Infestation Weed infestation has been known to cause substantial reductions in crop yields thereby obstructing sustainable agriculture (Ayeni et al., 2013). Weed competition was identified by Mbanje et al. (2001) as the most important factor for yield reduction in both commercial and communal farming in Zimbabwe. Weeds threat had forced farmers to use synthetic herbicides which have detrimental effects on the environment. Synthetic herbicides are also expensive and are not readily available for communal farmers use. Chemical and mechanical weed management reduce profitability in crop production since these methods are expensive. Recent efforts are being intensified on finding alternative strategies for weed management. The need for safe food production has developed steadily over the years as a result of consciousness about food quality and environmental concerns regarding agrochemicals used in agriculture. Such efforts include the use of allelochemicals which are believed to be much safer than synthetic herbicides. Crops/plants release chemicals i.e allelochemicals which could be utilized for ... Knowing sorghum varieties with best allelepathic effects on the common weeds will help in reducing weed problems in Zimbabwe. Local studies have not shown the extent to which sorghum allelopathy can suppress germination and growth of Acanthospermum hispidum and Elusine Indica. The extent to which soil type affects allelopathic weed control has not been shown by local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Feminist Icon Betty Friedan Testified On January 29th, 1970, feminist icon Betty Friedan testified before the Senate Judicial committee to protest the appointment of Judge George Harrold Carswell to Supreme Court Justice. With this testimony, Friedan hoped to persuade the committee to reject Carswell s nomination. In her testimony, Friedan was clear, concise, and effective. Friedan employed many different techniques to provide examples and backings for her assertions. Within the first few sentences of her speech, the activist establishes credibility and states her reason for being there. As president of the National Organization of Women, known informally as N.O.W., Betty Friedan speaks out against the discrimination against women in the employment, education, and in all ... Friedan also uses statistics to remind the court that 4.1 million mothers in the working force have children under the age of six and that they comprise 38.9 percent of the nearly 10.6 million mothers in the labor force today (Friedan). The activist continues to use evidential elements and statistics in her testimony, stating for every mother of children who worked in 1940, ten mothers are working today, an increase from slightly over 1.5 million to nearly 11 million (Friedan). Friedan also makes point that a man applying for the same position would not be denied because he was father to pre school aged children. The use factual evidence makes many of Friedan s assertions irrefutable and provides solid backing for her case against Carswell. However, Friedan does not just use factual evidence. The activist also appeals to emotions in her testimony, and although this may not be the most effective tool against her targeted audience, it does give her backing beyond the factual. Friedan asks the committee to place themselves in the shoes of those she fights for, and asks for empathy. To paraphrase, Friedan asks them to imagine themselves being denied for reelection, or applying for a job at a company or law firm or university and being told they are ineligible simply because they had a child (Friedan). After painting this picture for the committee, Friedan hits back with a question, asking then how do you feel about appointing to the Supreme Court a man who has said ...
