1. Titles For College Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Titles for College Essays" presents a unique set of
challenges. At first glance, one might assume that choosing a title is a straightforward task.
However, delving into the intricacies of creating a compelling and effective title for a college
essay reveals a multifaceted endeavor.
Firstly, one must grapple with the balance between creativity and clarity. A title should captivate
the reader's attention while also providing a glimpse into the essay's essence. Striking this
equilibrium demands careful consideration of the essay's tone, theme, and target audience. It
involves navigating the fine line between being intriguing and avoiding ambiguity.
Additionally, the challenge lies in understanding the role of a title in the context of college

2. Contributions Of Buffalo Soldiers
Within this anthology, the authors detail how Buffalo Soldiers contributed to every
war on American soil and abroad with little recognition. They served for less pay,
served under white leadership, and served only under dire circumstances. Unlike most
books that focus on the skirmishes between Buffalo Soldiers and Indians, it analyzes
the black soldiers service throughout the western territories. The authors provide
detailed accounts of how Buffalo Soldiers prepared the western frontier for white
settlement: escorting trains and stagecoaches; staffing garrisons; guarding railroad
construction and protecting militarysupply lines and survey teams. This book contains
a compendium of the rich contributions Africans Americans patriots and westward
expansion. Buffalo Soldiers provides a beautifully illustrated chronicle of the
contributions made by African Americantroops to the U.S. military from the post
Civil War era to the racial integration of the military after World War II. The name
Buffalo Soldiers was given to the African American troops because of the similarity in
their fierce relentless fighting spirit and of their hair which paralleled that of the
buffalo. 1899 marked the year when America set its sites from the Spanish to the First
Philippine Republic plunging American into yet another war ending with the
temporary annexation of the Philippine Islands spreading American imperialism to
the Far East. Within one year of winning their independence from
3. A Short Story Of Sleet
It was a dark, gloomy day in the Lamar Valley. Sleet, trotting along slowly, came
across the fence marking the exit of Yellowstone Park. He immediately backed
away from it and started the way from which he came. All his life he was told to
stay away from the fence. The wolves feared the fence for the fence showed the
unknown. It was the fact that beyond the fence was unknown that they feared.
Sleet, being a reddish, blackish wolf, was very curious about this fence. For there
were stories of wolves who traveled beyond the fence, and never returned. They
figured the wolves had been killed. But something about these stories confused
him. How would they know that they never returned because they were killed?
They could have still been alive and stayed past the fence because there was good!
He erased this thought from his mind and continued on his way. Sleet was walking
along slowly when he came across a fresh trail that sent his hair on his back
bristling. He crouched low to the ground and showed his teeth. He was being
watched. He saw gleaming eyes through the bushes surrounding him. He was trapped.
Sleet growled menacingly. The wolf packaround him drew closer. He now knew that
he was in danger. He submissively rolled onto his back with feet up above him in
the air. This was embarrassing for him. He came from a bloodline of strong wolves
who let nothing get in their way and who instead of gaining fear, they inflicted it
upon others. Sleet, now rolling back onto his 4 feet,
4. Tornado Script
Tornado Script
By: Rachel Lee
My name is Rachel Lee. What is severe weather? Is a tornado a type of severe
weather? If you want to know, it is yes. A tornado is a type of severe weather. A
tornado is a violent, and narrow row of air that moves fast in a circular way, which
comes from a thunderstorm to the earth. Tornadoes are recognized or known as
cyclones. Cyclones can also be hurricanes, typhoons, or more. They are storms that
counts as severe weather and move quickly around in a circular way. A tornado
happens during a bad thunderstorm. Winds up high blow faster than winds down and
lower. They both go in directions, which makes a circular motion. Then it starts to
rotate faster and faster until it creates a tornado. Before the tornado hits, it dangles ...

Things inside the tornado does not get much damage. Things that are thrown aside
or hit by debris get much more damage. Some people could get killed, and some are
very injured. Little people are left unharmed. You need to pick a place where anyone
can find and be at if a tornado comes. Make sure that everyone is safe. Also, you
have to close the windows, if a safe room has windows. But, try to stay in a safe
place without windows. A tornado looks like a thin rope and twirls fast in a circular
way. The winds from a tornado can swish across and go toward the land as quickly as
100 300 miles per hour. One well known storm is the Great Tri State Tornado. This
tornado was devastating and incredible because it went through three states;
Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana in less than 4 hours. Another very well known storm
is the Flint Beecher Tornado. A tornado had struck the cities Flint and Beecher in
Michigan. It had hit at night, so it was more difficult to understand that there was a
tornado, where it is currently, and what it will damage. In the United States, in the
Midwest, it is also known as the Tornado Alley. There, a lot of tornadoes occur. In the
Midwest, they have tornado

Omens have been used throughout history in many different cultures to assist
spiritual seekers with finding their way, which is why Paulo Coelho incorporates such
use of omens in his famous novel, The Alchemist. There are many omens and
symbols used through The Alchemist such as, the rocks, the desert, and the cobra,
which Paulo Coelhoused as way showers for Santiago to follow on the path in
experiencing his personal legend. Paulo Coelho is the author of The Alchemist, and
his religion shows through in his writings with the use of omens and symbolism.

Omens are a part of many different religions, including Catholicism. Since Paulo
Coelho is of the Catholic religion, this could be a large contributor of why he
believes in omens. Omens show up in his writing of The Alchemist, quite
frequently. Exploring Coelho s life and the omens he uses, open up a lot of
information on his life and his writing. The first omen that shows up in The
Alchemist is the rocks that Melchizedek gives to Santiago. They are called Urim
and Thummim. The black signifies yes, and the white no. (Coelho 12). These two
rocks are to help Santiago follow different signs throughout the story. Although
Santiago only uses them a few times during The Alchemist, they are there to offer
guidance whenever he may need them. Santiago first acquired these rocks from
Melchizedek, the King of Salem and the way Santiago received the rocks was very
similar to how they were used in history. Urim and Thummim were embedded into an
important Priest s breastplate. Over the years, Urim and Thummim have been known
as light and perfection, also as the perfect light.
7. The Theme of Sin in the Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel...
The first couple of chapters introduces us to Hester Prynne and begins to explore
the theme of sin, along with its connection to knowledge and social order. This is a
world that has already fallen, that already knows sin. They know that misbehavior,
evil, and death are unavoidable. This belief fits into the larger Puritan doctrine,
which puts heavy emphasis on the idea of original sin. While exposing sin is meant
to help the sinner and provide an example for others, such exposure does more than
merely protect the community. Hester becomes a scapegoat and gives the
townspeople, particularly the women, a chance to demonstrate their own piety by
condemning her as loudly as possible. Rather than seeing their own potential
sinfulness in Hester, the townspeople see her as someone whose transgressions
outweigh and obliterate their own errors. The women of the town criticize her for
embroidering the scarlet letter, the symbol of her shame, with such care and in such
a flashy manner: It seems to declare that she is proud, rather than ashamed, of her
sin. In reality, Hester simply accepts the sin and its symbol as part of herself. The
town has made Hester into a living sermon because she is stripped of her humanity
and made to serve the needs of the community. Her punishment is expressed in
violent terms. The men who sit in judgment of Hester are not only hypocritical but
also ignorant. The narrator tells us that these ignorant men had no right to meddle
with a question of
8. Human Resources And Human Resource Practices
Regardless of the size of a business or whether it is a multi million dollar software
distributor or a productive trucking company, there is one thing that most all
companies have in common. Every company needs to have efficient human resource
practices. According to Mayhew (n.d.), human resources plays an essential role in
developing a company s strategy as well as handling the employee centered activities
of an organization (para. 1). If the employees are the backbone of an organization then
the human resource department is the brain stem. It can be the glue that holds an
organization together, or the hammer that breaks the organization apart. There are
many issues that companies face when dealing with human resources. Things such as
payroll disputes and disgruntled employees are fairly common, but for the most
part they are easy to overcome. The major issue that companies have to face when
it comes to human resources is a double edged sword. It is both a blessing and a
hindrance at times. This issue is how to handle the ever changing diversity within the
organization. In order to be a successful human resource department of an
organization that treats their diverse workforce in a fair and equal manner, one must
first understand how the workforce demographics are changing, what problems may
arise due to these changes, and how to overcome these problems. It is a delicate
dance that must be done on a daily basis.
Description
As was inferred earlier, diversity
9. The Middle East Peace Process
This investigation will closely examine and show a detailed evaluation and
explanation of the role played by Jimmy Carter in the Middle East peace process
and will answer the question: For what reasons and in what ways did President
Carter mediate the Camp David Accords and set the precedent for future peace
agreement between the Arab World and Israel?
The primary sources which will be evaluated are a biography of the life of Carter,
which unfolds in an orderly manner the events that led up to Carter s peaceful
diplomatic relation with both factions of the everlasting problem Arab world and
Israel, and a comprehensive historical account about the meeting that resolved the
high tension between the Arab world and Israel at Camp David in 1978.
The Much Too Promised Land; America s Elusive Search for Arab Israeli Peace
This book was published in 2008 and was written by Aaron David Miller. Miller
has played a key role in U.S. efforts to negotiate Arab Israeli Peace for almost 20
years. He served as an advisor to presidents, secretaries of state, and national
security. The purpose of this book was to without partisanship or finger pointing
honestly record what went right, what went wrong (Miller 24) and to see how we
got where we are today (Miller 28) in the context of Middle East peace and policies
regarding Jimmy Carter and his initiative to find a solution and build his legacy as a
president.. The book provides valuable anecdotal evidence from President Jimmy

10. RC Circuits Lab Report
Experiment 5: RC Circuits
Abstract
The purpose of this lab is to learn and understand RC Circuits. An RC circuit is
composed of at least one resistor and at least one capacitor. A capacitor is composed
of two plates with either air or an insulator also known as a dielectric between the
plates. We do not want the plates to be touching, because then we would only have a
conductor. The insulator between the plates is also known as the dialectic, which
affect how the capacitor will store charge. In an RC circuit, voltage will flow from the
battery to the capacitor and through the resistor. When the capacitor is charging, the
voltage across the battery is decreasing until the capacitor is fully charged. When the

We used the average half time to calculate the time constant to be 5525 microseconds.
Then we use the average time constant to calculate the capacitance to be 0.55
microfarads. The percent difference is also 9.5%, which implied that finding the
capacitance through this method is valid.
For the second part of the experiment, we created a capacitor by using two sheet of
aluminum foil with the same area and a wax paper. We inserted the wax paper,
which is the dialectic, between the aluminum foils to create a capacitor. Then we
connected the capacitor to the RC circuit. In this part, we need to find the half time,
the time constant, and capacitance in order to calculate for the thickness of the wax
paper, or distance between the plates. In order to solve for the distance, we used the
formula C=, which k is the dialectic constant, is the permittivity of free space, A is
the area, and d is the distance between the plates. We rearranged the formula do solve
for distance, so we used the formula, d=We measured the length and width of the
plate, so the area is the multiplication of the length and width of the area plate. After
the calculations, we obtain 580 micrometers for the thickness of the paper while the
theoretical thickness is 35 micrometers. The percent difference between the
theoretical and calculated thickness of the wax paper is 180%, which is significant to
indicate that this method does not validate the
11. Summary Of America s Cultures By Ann Coulter
When thinking about all the wrongdoings America has done, people typically tend
to think of the hardships and suffering black people had to face as a result of
slavery and segregation perpetrated by America. Not many people tend to think
about the plights that other minority groups faced, an issue that was pointed out in Ji
Yeon Mary Yuhfill s essay, Let s Tell the Story of All America s Cultures , where she
herself did not know about the struggles of other minority groups. Ann Coulter argues
that black peopleshould be owed civil rights because of their violent past with
America, and that other minority groups are not as deserving because America has
no history with them. While black people have endured a history of violence in
America, they are not the only ones to suffer in American society. Other minority
groups like immigrants have had their equal share of suffering in America and
therefore America should owe them their civil rights as well.

However, even if the immigrants have never been to this country, America has still
affected them in some way or another. In the video America and the Holocaust , it
was explained how America made it extremely difficult for Jewish immigrants to
obtain visas during World War 2, and how feelings of anti semitism and xenophobia
intensified here in the US, thus alienating the Jews here and Jews who were out of
the country. America s failed attempts at saving the Jewish community such as the
Bermuda conference made it even harder for Jews in and out of the country, who
were not prioritized here in America. Despite never being in this country as Coulter
says, America has still hurt these immigrants and put them through hardships and
suffering. These immigrants still therefore deserve their civil rights because they still
have a legacy with
12. The Guns Of August, By Barbara W. Tuchman
Although many common citizens have often had several preconceived ideas behind
the causes of the first and second world war, historians believe in one main cause of
the first world war, also called the Great War, and that is the assassination of the
archduke of Austria named Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. Several novels have been
written regarding this Great War but one book that sparks the attention of the public
some years after this war occurred is entitled The Guns of August. Its title describes
the insurmountable events regarding the first month of the first World War.
The Guns of August was written by Barbara W. Tuchman and was published in
1962 , forty four years after the end of the Great War. This book elaborates on the
events of World War Iin a manner where the author emphasizes rather more on the
causes of the war in contrast to the events following the first world war. Tuchman
begins the novel with a detailed personal view of the death of the King of the
United Kingdom at the time, King Edward VII. Concerning the people present in the
novel, several faces are described by Tuchman such as great nobles and great kings
that attended this funeral. Although all nobles and kings mourned the death of such
great king, the King of Germany himself was joyous for the fact that he would finally
show the power of Germany towards the modern world that they knew. Throughout
the novel, the author uses imagery several times in order to portray the views of
someone that was in the

15. The Death Of A Man
Rotwang awoke but he knew quite well he was dead, and this consciousness filled
him with the deepest satisfaction. His aching body no longer had anything to do
with him. That was perhaps the last remains of life. But something worried him
deeply, as he raised himself up and looked around in all directions. Hel was not there.
He must find Hel.
An existence without Hel was over at last. Was this to be a second one? No.
He got up on his feet. That was very difficult. He must have been lying as a corpse
for a long while. It was night, too. A fire was raging out there, and it was all very
noisy. Human beings shrieking.
Hm...
He had hoped to be rid of them. But, apparently the Almighty Creator could not get

Past those who were raving around the bonfire, always politely avoiding getting in
their way, Rotwang quietly groped his way to the cathedral.
Yes, it was his Hel. She receded into the cathedral. He groped his way up the steps.
How high the door looked. Coolness and hovering incense received him. All the
saints in the pillar niches had pious and lovely faces, smiling gently, as though they
rejoiced with him that he was now, at last, to find Hel, his Hel, again.
She was standing at the foot of the belfry steps. She seemed to him to be very pale
and indescribably pathetic. Through a narrow window, the first pale light of the
morning fell upon her hair and brow.
Hel, said Rotwang, his heart streaming over. He stretched out his hands. Come to me,
my Hel. How long, how long I had to live without you.
But she did not come. She started back from him. Her face full of horror, she started
back from him.
Hel, begged the man, why are you afraid of me? I am no ghost, although I am dead.
I had to die, to come to you. I have always, always longed for you. You have no right
to leave me alone now. I want your hands. Give them to me.
But his groping fingers snatched into space. Footsteps hurried up the steps of the
stone staircase leading to the belfry.

18. Female Love In Araby And John Updike s A P
The character in any story is one of the most important elements, as the conflict and
plot progress because of the characters. It is normally their appearances, mannerisms,
and ideologies that the reader is using to understand the context and dynamics of the
story. James Joyce s Araby and John Updike s A P present stories about an adolescent
boyhaving a sexual attractiontowards a female. The female love interests are
presented through a spiritual light and given this holy image from the protagonists.
Due to the boy s ages being toward the younger side, their exposure to sexual love
is quite limited, so when they first experience this type of love, it is so unfamiliar
that they prioritize and idolize it, giving the impression of the girls being these holy
beings that they worship in a spiritual way. In James Joyces Araby the narrator has a
tortured on his neighbour, Mangan s sister. The young boy frequently watches her
from his window, occasionally walks by her, and does not exchange many words
when he passes by. One evening the narrator has a conversation with Mangan s
sister about the bazaar Araby, and how she cannot traverse there due to prior
commitments. The narrator is sexually attracted to her as seen by his description of
her appearance. He states, The light from the lamp opposite our door caught the
white curve of her neck, lit up her hair that rested there and. Falling, lit up the hand

19. A Vicious Cycle
Another topic often overlooked in discussions of the sort is parallels that of
discussed previously, and it is the idea of a vicious cycle. If a country continues to
think that it needs to be more powerful to prevent an imminent attack, this toxic
mentality tends to lead to more issues than normal. This mindset is a form of
determinism that serves no other purpose than to perpetuate the need for more and
more weapons, similar to the point made above arguing against the idea of MAD.
As stated by Brian Kester, [a] perceived threat is more likely to provoke a violent
reaction if the people threatened feel they can strike with impunity, and space
weaponswould add significantly to the feeling of American impunity. This echoes
ethical considerations regarding vulnerability and helps to show that the cycle of
continually doing more and more may not always be the best policy for a nation.
Superiority may be a nation s most damning weakness if, in it, comes a spirit of
arrogance and apathy for others. The political considerations associated with placing
weapons in space is also not something that should be taken lightly. As mentioned
before, several acts of legislation both at the worldwide (United Nations) and country
level have been put in place to try and maintain the neutrality and peacefulness of
space, such as the Treaty of Outer Space. Thus, to say politics is not intertwined with
this decision would be a grossly misinformed stance. From the United States
perspective,

Throughout the history of present day Iran it has been contested whether the Shi i
ulama or the Shah are the logical leaders of the community. It is true that the ulama
have gained control of Iran, and that Islam changed much in Iran, but in some
respects continuity from the past was far stronger than the new concepts (Frye 36)
due to the fact that the power of the Shah remained for hundreds of years after the
introduction of Islam. The Iranian people have a long history of traditions and culture
and even when Islam spread throughout the country it was adapted to include some of
the Iranian traditions. The most significant example of this is the Shah s adaptation
and endorsement of Islam. The long history, tradition, and the decline of... Show more

The office of the Shah has had such an impact that one may find in the literature and
in the art of Iran evidence for a powerful and continuing charisma of kingship, even
through great upheavals and changes in the history of the land (Frye 36). The
Shahs in pre Islamic Persia established legitimacy by charisma and by being a
religious leader because the people believed Ahura Mazda confers on the king
charisma and special wisdom. The king s duty was to enforce the law, social order,
and righteousness, however if social unrest occurred, it was a sign that the dynasty
had lost divine favor. The Iranian theory of kingship lasted for a long periods of
time because the Shahs who ruled were charismatic and successful at establishing
legitimacy, and if not they were able to be disposed of by the religious priests and
nobles. The Shahs in post Islamic Iran needed to learn to establish legitimacy in a
region where the people were disposing of Zoroastrian beliefs and converting to the
ShД« a ideology of Islam. The Shah that managed to merge traditional role of a Shah
and the religious aspects of Islam was ShДЃh IsmДЃКїil. This Shah needed to

Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote, One flag, one land, one heart, one hand, one nation

breathe in, and think to yourself, what does my American dream consist of? Each of
us can come together as one to achieve our goals, just like when we all took part in
the formation of our Country. The message of the song American Oxygen is about
the formation of our country; including the hardships, accomplishments, and the steps
we took to get where we are; however, the video also creates a negative view on our
Country by showing images of the white supremacy. Our country has had multiple
hardships shaping the U.S., including terrorist attacks, riots leading to violence,

Ernest Hemingway s third novel a Farewell to arms was being created with his early
experience with war. Just out of High school, E.Hemingway tried volunteering to

World War 1 but he was rejected by the U.S. military because of his poor eyesight.
Instead he
voluntarily enlisted in the Italian ambulance corps on the Italian front where he was

nurse named

24. Media s Impact On Society And The Individual
Despite there being numerous sources and names for media and information, large
conglomerate companies have emerged over the last several decades that own a
majority of media outlets in the United States and throughout the world. These
conglomerates operate in an assortment of business opportunities. The big six as they
are commonly referred, own up to 90% of the American mediamarket share (Lutz),
and that number is growing. The big six companies include G.E., News Corporation,
Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, and CBS. To demonstrate this growth of
consolidation, that same 90% of the American media was owned by fifty independent
companies in 1983 (Lutz). These figures are outstanding, as they relate and intersect
with Stuart Hall s idea of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the conglomerate Comcast corporation is a cable television provider,
internet service provider, phone service provider, the owner of various broadcast
stations like NBC and the Spanish network Telemundo, the owner of film networks
like Universal pictures, and the owner of internet sites like Hulu and Fandango.
Comcast even owns the Universal Studios theme parks and a professional hockey
team, the Philadelphia Flyers. This is just a short list of the various businesses and
services that a conglomerate, like Comcast, may own. As of 2017, Comcast reported
a whopping $146 billion dollar market cap (Selyukh). By further understanding these
motives, one is able to realize the role that media plays in their daily lives and the
influence that they may have that extends outside the television broadcast.
The power that these conglomerates hold may cause given information and facts to
be distorted, possibly in order to better benefit themselves and their own corporate
interests. This information highlights Hall s ideal of how knowledge and power
intersect. Hall brings up the idea of how there is this Gap of representation, a
figurative gap between the actual facts and how the media represent it (Hall). This
gap between representation and the true facts must be measured by the individual,
when he or she may think something is reported inaccurately or in a biased
mannered. In order to understand this gap that may be presented by

In, The Influencing Machine, author Brooke Gladstone explains that the changing
media does not change our brains if we do not let it. This goes against all the fears
of technology thus far, essentially making us humans the artificial intelligence.
Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When they do not take their medicine dark and
twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their heads. Alot of times they see
and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like somebody, or
some outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves. Now,
take something that is a bit more relatable to people. Say you are walking down the
street and see a registered sex offender. Alot of people dont want to see that... Show

They were afraid the words and symbols were too complex for the human mind and
it would cause their brains to become too overloaded with information. When the
children grew up, they would ultimately find themselves in the insane asylum. In
1613 Barnaby Rich spoke that books overcharged the world to where the
information from everyday would not be able to be comprehended. Then, the
alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would essentially
trust the written words more than they would orally and it would cause problems.
Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is
like a revolving door. Every few years the fears come back. Typically they are caused
by books and articles. Google s self driving cars have driven almost a million miles.
People are suggesting that their next invention will be self driving diesels. Then
the fear is that the response system will not be up to par and vehicle accidents will
increase ten fold. Along with that, jobs will be put in jeopardy. Taxi drivers will be
slowly laid off, and truck drivers will be plucked

Think back to your childhood and try to remember a time where you felt lost or

you didn t like the same things that they did. These moments and feelings directly
relate to the psychoanalytical perspectives in childhood today. (verywell.com/child

development among children. Our first theorist, Sigmund Freud, ... Show more

27. Democracy in Singapore
2. Is there democracy in Singapore?
What is Democracy?
Singapore has been recognized as a representative democratic state since August
1965. However, to examine if Singapore is in fact democratic, we need to first
define the word democracy and its parameters. The word originated from M.Fr
democratis in the 1570s, with demo referring to common people and cratie to rule of
strength. Therefore, by definition, Singapore can be classified as a democratic
country due to the fair elections which enable her people to choose their government.
Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that
have been tried from time to time , Churchill words immortalize democracy as the
way to go, but there is not one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, the time period between each General Election in Singapore is also
relatively longer than the other democratic states, such as the Unite States, where
elections are held consistently every four years. The announcement of the election
dates are also only released just before the election itself. This inflexibility in the
political system is detrimental to the opposition parties and also place severe
restrictions on the citizens in terms of their rights to decide when to have an election.
Chief reasons for the PAP s continued dominance
The PAP s ability to maintain its hegemony till date can be attributed to two main
reasons, firstly, the PAP has been introducing schemes in the electorate system to
suppress the opposition and secondly, the PAP s control over the grassroots
organizations have established the required link between itself and the citizens.
Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP)
As mentioned earlier, the NMP scheme has been employed by the PAP to function as
an institution to prevent potential opposition by taking the talented and qualified
individual inside their ranks, thus greatly limiting the pool of talent for the opposition
right from the onset. Quoting Bilver Singh, by bringing these talents into the political
system in a safe and non threatening manner, the PAP is effectively denying the
oppositional forces the possibility of recruiting these talents into their ranks. Although

29. Film Analysis Of The Film Rabbit Proof Fence
In the film, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, and set in the 10930s,
one important idea is the physical and emotional journey which involves
discrimination, courage, determination and family. This journey is experienced by
three mixed race Aboriginal girls called Molly, Daisy and Gracie. Molly is the
protagonist, she is a leader and a decision maker who does not falter and uses her
survival skill and strength of will to overcome the challenges of her journey while
looking after her sister Daisy and cousin Gracie. A variety of film techniques is
used in important settings to help the audience understand the idea and how the
film is effective as a whole. One of the most important settings in the film is when
the main character (the protagonist) Molly Craige is introduced to the audience
when she is being taught how to hunt with her family before being forcefully taken
by the authority in order to be made white. This scene is effective for two reasons.
The first reason is that it tells the audience about the character Molly. The audience
learns that the character is a young half caste aboriginal girl who lives in Jigalong,
Australia with her family and is becoming independent. The audience knows this
because they see she is learning useful survival skills from her mother and
grandmother, the important skills of Aboriginal culture such as tracking. This is
important to the rest of the film because she is learning to provide for a family and
herself. also, Molly then uses these skills to outsmart Moodoo (an Aboriginal
tracker that works for Moore River), This girl is clever. She wants to go home.
Furthermore, her skills are used to look after Gracie and Daisy on their harsh
journey from Moore River in which she travels 1500 miles (2000km) through
unfamiliar territory to reach their home and family in North Western Australia, with
authorities closing in on them all the way. This is the main reason why this scene is
effective. The second reason why the scene is effective is that uses filmmaking
techniques really well. For example, the director uses the technique of symbolism.
We see this when a wide shot is used showing Gracie holding the fence and Molly
asking where the fence goes to. This is
30. Effects Of Pollution And Environmental Degradation
Pollution and Environmental Degradation are things that the large majority of
humans contributes to some small or large way on the daily. Whether it is our
mode of transportation, throwing a piece of trash on the ground, buying products
made from trees, and to be perfectly honest the concentration in which we live, by
which I mean the proximity of the average residents in which we reside. These all
seem like regular everyday things that are just normal. But in the past things like
these were so beyond the norm that they would seem alien and impossible. The
first matter that I pointed out, our mode of transportation, differs from person to
person. There are those that have decided to either not use any fossil fuel burning
vehicular modes of transportation, such as walking and riding bikes; while others
have decided to greatly decrease their ecological footprint by using various forms
of carpooling, whether it being literal carpooling with friends or coworkers, or
taking modes of mass transportation such as buses and subways or underground
railways. According to a survey 91% of people drive to work in their personal
vehicles; and 204 million personal vehicles are regularly used. And though not
everyone throws their trash directly on to the ground, and most that do don t do it
completely intentionally. I do have to say that a large amount of Americans do not
take the time to make sure that their trash and garbage is disposed of properly. Some
do not invest in having both

In history it seems that some value of materialistic items can control a person s life;
in the present, the same controlling is happening. William Hogarth backed up this
theory by painting A Rakes Progress, which illustrates the life of Tom Rakewell in the
18th century. Through Hogarth s paintings, he releases his thoughts and uses his
work to speak to society. The theme of the gain and loss of money, drinking,
prostitutes, and gambling is represented for the 18th centuryby William Hogarth s
painting. William Hogarth is a name well known from the 18th century as one of the
best artists for his work A Rake s Progress. Despite his background that emerged from

Hogarth details each character in his painting to show the viewers how to take this
information from his work. In the painting, Rakewell s fiancee, Sarah, is shown
holding a tissue and wedding ring clutched in her hand. Her mother holds the love
letters Tom wrote and at the same time Tom holds out a handful of coins in a plead
to get rid of them. The second painting that makes up A Rake s Progress shows
Tom moves from his family home into a luxury house fenced in by a dance master,
a music teacher, a poet, a tailor, a landscape gardener, a bodyguard and a jockey all
offering their services to help Tom complete his fashionable lifestyle (Harland).
Tom is presented in his night ware and is with prostitutes. Tom s lifestyle does not
last for long after the third scene he is in trouble by the bailiffs. The fiancee pays
Tom s bail, but by the next scene, he is marrying a wealthy old woman. In the
painting, the woman s eyes glances towards the ring and Tom looks to his maid. In
the background, Sarah and her mother struggle by being restrained by other guests
before they can object to anything. In the 18th century, gambling was a reoccurring
theme and

Politics of India India is the largest democracy in the world. India has the biggest
number of people with franchise rights and the largest number of political parties,
which take part in election campaign. In the 1996 national elections, almost 600
million people voted and an average of 26 candidates competed for each of the 543
territorial constituency seats. Elections are held at different levels. The two major
election levels are at national level, after which the national government is
established and at state level after which the state government is established.
Elections are also held for city, town and village councils. There are different
political issues in Indian politics. Some are national level and some regional level....

In these elections members for the Lower House are elected. Head of a state is called
Chief Minister, who is member of the Lower House. Constitutionally the figurehead
of the state is the Governor, who is appointed by the President according to the advice
of the national government. After the state elections the governor calls for the
suitable candidate to form the government. In general the governor has more
legislative rights at state level than the President has at national level. The governor
can call on early elections in the state, or fire the government if he thinks that the
government has failed or is unstable. In the federal relations between the state and
central government, the central government has more authority on state matters than
the state government. For example the central government has the right to
redistribute the state borders without consulting the state governments on this matter.
If the political conditions in any state are not stable, the national government can call
on the President to declare President s rule in that specific state. And so the
government in that state is dissolved, which means an emergency rule is declared
and sometimes if necessary the army is put to work in that state. Even though the
Constitution determinates the rights of the different authorities in the administration
process, there can be other pressures like strong lobbies or strong political parties,
which, sometimes

36. Gender Roles A Self Fulling Prophecy Essay
This cycle can negatively impact the author s life and the reader s life, whether they
know it or not, because as they read or write harmfully gendered relationships, they
subconsciously affirm the truths portrayed in the fiction and spread these beliefs to
other readers. In other words, damaging genderroles appear right and natural, because
they are so often depicted in the media as right and natural, with relationships healthy
based on equality being rarely offered as the alternative. This makes heteronomrative
gender roles a self fulling prophecy with people performing these stereotypes, because
they are presented as the norm. If feminized male characters serve as the stand in for
the female reader, then fanfictions that depicts the feminine as mentally and
physically less able than the masculine must contribute to this vicious cycle as well.
In addition, the masculine gender roleoften exemplifies the type of behavior
considered natural for men. In American culture, part of this natural masculine gender
role assumes that men will be complicit ,if not actively participating, in patriarchal
culture and the poisonous values often associated with it. The traditional masculine
model is made to seem so right that men portraying this gender role, and the women
reading about this gender role, are made to believe that the domination and
exploitation of women, and even other men, is not just expected, but demanded

Quality of life can be compromised by behaviors such as procrastination and

where people often try to change their habits by means of conscious intentions. The

simply as Asta s son. When his mother dies, he is so upset that he runs into the

priest gives Crispin a cross of lead that his mother owned. He tells Crispin that his
mother could read and write, and that she wrote the words on the cross. He then

Spivak s essay Can the Subaltern Speak? is originally published in Cary Nelson and
Lawrence Grossberg s Marxist and the Interpretation of culture(1988).(3)
In this essay, Spivak encourages and motivates but at the same time, she criticizes
the effort of the subaltern studies group in establishing a voice. As a feminist, Spivak

People will go to great lengths to be close to the stars of Hollywood. It drives some

William Billy Wilkerson is one such person. His desire to be somebody was so great
