2. Is Ice Hockey Hard
Is hockey hard? This is what former NHL star Brendan Shanahan had to say about
that question, I don t know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of
a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, and the concentration of a brain
surgeon. But we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold
and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us, oh yeah did I
mention that this whole time we re standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick? Is ice

around sports, especially hockey. Fourteen years of hard work and practice evolved

Coach Yoast shows that you have to do the right thing regardless of the cost. Strive
for excellence, and leave no doubt. In the championship game we had a two to one
lead with fifteen seconds left. Coach called my name and told my line to get on
the ice. I climbed over the boards clutching my stick between my hands with only
one thing on my mind, winning a National Championship. The next fifteen seconds
were about to be the most intense moments of my life. This is because only fifteen
seconds lies between me and an undisputed championship. As I squared up for the
faceoff a storm of cheers and jeers flooded my ears, making it hard to stay focused.
The referee was ready to drop the puck and the game was underway. I lost the
faceoff and the other team began to storm down the ice. Nine seconds, eight
seconds the clock was ticking and we were stuck in the defensive zone. Seven
seconds, six seconds shots were flying at our goalie left and right one save after
another, as he maintained the lead. The last five seconds seemed like a lifetime.
Fighting in the corner for the puck time finally expired and we, were National
Champions. After all we had been through in just over a week the taste of victory
never seemed so sweet. We came to play and we left no

4. Jeffrey Dahmer Research Paper
Lionel and Joyce Dahmer became parents to a baby boy named Jeffery Dahmer
who was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 21, 1960. During Jeffrey s
adolescent years, until the age of 4; he was described as a happy and content kid.
As the years went on, Jeffery s parents gave birth to another baby boy and along
with that; Jeffrey moved quite frequently creating a sense of instability in his life.
Now with a new sibling and frequent moves in his life Jeffery s parents started
noticing how disengaged and withdrawn he had become. Dahmer had an
awkwardness about him that often led to his inability to socialize with other kids and
left him alone and without friends. Once Mr. Dahmer was in his teens he began to
experience compulsions toward necrophilia particularly after his parents divorce....

The victim was picked up by Dahmer as a hitchhiker by the name of Steven Hicks.
Dahmer took the young man home and offered him drinks and got him drunk.
When Steven Hicks had enough and was ready to leave, Dahmer killed him by
striking him in the head with a barbell and lastly, strangling him. After the killing of
his first victim he then proceeded to dismember the body and stored them in plastics
bags behind his parents home. Dahmer s main method of operation was to lure, drug
and strangle. What s unique about this case is the lengths Dahmer will go to get rid
of the bodies. Dahmer would begin to consume the flesh of his victims, mutilate and
dismember their genitals for a souvenir as well as drill holes in their skulls. In
addition, another oddly unique fact about this case was that most of Dahmer s
victims were predominately African American descent and
5. Cost Control in Health Maintenance Organizations Essay
An HMO is an organized health care delivery system, which provides health care to
its members through networks of doctors and hospitals. Rather than traditional health
plans, HMO s cost less. Two ways HMO s control costs are: controlling hospital
admission and length of stay, and by providing incentives to physicians. These two
cost control methods are further examined by an article published by The National
Bureau of Economic Research (2002). The article examines the incentives to
physician strategy for reducing utilization cost. The Physician Guide to Managed Care
(1994) describes HMOs the case management procedures used to control cost through
hospitallength of stay and admissions.

Bonus levels are determined on the basis of performance, as performance improves
the bonuses gradually become higher. HMO s rely on rates and member satisfaction
survey results to measure provider performance. By keeping a certain level of
member satisfaction, more revenue can be brought in through new enrollees.
Financial incentives are generally more influential when it comes to physicians
improving quality of care. According to the National Research Council (2001),
research regarding payment and quality improvement efforts of health care
administrators was presented at an Institute of Medicine Workshop in April of 2004.
The research showed ,with the use of physician incentives the total direct savings in
health care cost which include reduce visits and hospital episodes was an estimated
net savings of about 2,000 per patient. For more than 13,000 diabetic patients
managed by a physician group it was projected that the savings had the potential to
generate over $10 million in net saving per year. Aligning financial incentives with
physician s networks provides the achievement of better patient outcomes, but
generally provides the HMO cost control over their equity.
HMO s utilize the process of controlling hospital admission and length of stay as
another form of cost control. According to Nash (1994), in order to minimize
hospital length of stay, the HMO arranges in advance for care to

Following him into the room were two men, one dark skinned and one light. The
black man was named Leroy, the white man was named Harold. Leroy had a dark
blue trench coat which often times allowed him to carry a full length shotgun
underneath without anyone giving a second glance. He had a grey suit and grey
striped tie to match. Leroy was bald, his face significantly scarred. He menacingly
scanned the room, moving about to inspect every corner. Harold on the other hand
couldn t be bothered to turn his head. He stood directly behind his boss and never
seemed to move much at all. Harold was easily the tallest manin the room, including
the men who were to arrive shortly. He wore a brown leather jacket with a soft
wool lining. The jacket matched his hair and sideburns, which were curly and
short. Being about a man in his mid 40 s, he didn t carry a phone, only a revolver.

7. The Animals Of The Wolves
Whenever someone asks a child what they want for a present, a puppy is usually
included in that list. We consider dogs to be our constant companions and one of
the only animals that is our equal. Dogs provide happiness and friendship.
However, they do so much more. Canines caused the human race to survive and
thrive. Without dogs, the world would be more difficult for people. Humans may
owe our existence to dogs. In ancient times, Homo sapiens started to notice that feral
dogs surrounded their homes. These primitive people did not get rid of the wolves
because of the benefits that they offered. Wolves would eat the leftover scraps that
the Homo sapiens set aside, therefore reducing the trash and stench (Coren 5). Wolves

These canines find bodies out at sea by the skin particles and gases that rise to the
surface of the water (Layton). It is difficult for these dogs to pinpoint exactly
where the person is because most bodies of water have a current, therefore the
dogs often have to work in groups and average where they alert the body is to find
the real location (Layton). The opposite of water dogs are avalanche dogs that
search for people trapped under up to fifteen feet of snow (Layton). One of the most
common types of air scent dogs are urban disaster dogs. After the terrorist attack on
the World Trade Centers, three hundred canines were brought in to determine if
anyone was trapped in the rubble of the collapsed buildings (Ascher Walsh 105).
Wilderness dogs can find people who have gotten lost in the wilds. Lastly are mutts
that look for items that have human scent on them. Canines that do this are evidence
or article dogs. Search and rescue dogs do an amazing job of finding people.
According to the How Stuff Works website, a single SAR dogcan accomplish the
work of 20 to 30 human searchers (Layton). Since pups are faster at finding people
than humans, they are often used considering that time is crucial in these positions;
In an avalanche situation, for instance, approximately 90 percent of victims are alive
15 minutes after burial; 35 minutes after burial, only 30 percent of victims are alive
(Layton). It is important to use the fastest, most accurate technology
8. Outline and Evaluate Strange Situation
The security of attachment in infants was investigated by Mary Ainsworth in the
strange situation study, in order to determine the nature of attachment behaviours and
styles of attachment. In the strange situation , infants and their mothers were
observed in a range of situations, which allowed the researcher to see the different
types of behaviours shown. The infants were observed through video cameras in a
purpose built laboratory playroom with their mothers. The room contained two
comfortable chairs and a play area with a set of toys suitable for young children. The
procedure in Ainsworth s research consisted of a series of situations, which were
standardised for all the infants who took part. 1.Mother and infant enter the room....

behaviour. E.g. if the mother of an infant was avoidant towards their child and was
aware of it, the mother may have changed her behaviour while being observing. The
social desirability may have also been present. This is typically shown in self report
methods, but can be present in other methods of research. This is where the
participant would lie to make themselves look better to the researcher. In Ainsworth s
situation, the mother may have tried to make herself look better while being
observed by showing more interest in the infant than usual. This may affect the
internal validity as it would have effected what Ainsworth was trying to measure,

9. Similarities Between The Matrix And Suicide In The Trench
One s perception on the problems in the society changes as new perspective are
introduced, and the consequence of an altered perspective results in different
outcomes both positive and negative. The film, The Matrix produced by the
Wachowski Brothers in 1999 and the poem Suicide in The Trench by Siegfried
Sassoon explore this concept of altering perspective. The matrixuses the theme The
power of authority to manipulate to challenge each individual s perception on what
they consider to be the reality and explored the outcome that follows after one s
perspective is altered. Similarly, Suicide in the Trench challenge the idea of illusion,

This text explored this concept through the issue of propaganda creating a false
illusion which glorified and endorsed the idea of war. The propaganda manipulated
many young boys hastening to participate in the war. The text emphasised the author
s negative perception of war through an insight into a young boy s changing
perspective from glorifying war to realising its full horror. In the first stanza, a
positive perception on war was established through the use of emotive language such
as Joy whistled and grinned . The first stanza established the original perception of
war for the audience. The emotive language used in the second stanza cowed... glum

soldiers, they are no long joyful, hopeful for they have experienced the horror of war.
The harsh condition and the mental state of these young soldiers was represented
through the symbolism of winter trench in the second stanza. Winter represent death,
loneliness or an end, and trench represent somewhere filthy and confined. Sassoon
used winter trench to symbolise the harsh reality of the war, the depression of the
young soldiers and their belief that they were confined and that there were nowhere
out. Through the use of juxtaposition, emotive language and symbolism, the author

The first thing you see when you get into the car, and the last thing you see when

possibilities and techniques. Something some people don t pay attention to and
some people its the first thing they look at, and some people make their living by
painting cars. In this research paper i will talk about painting and certain various
types of custom painting techniques. Painting a car is a good way to make it

Polishing helps the paint shine and helps it better protect the paint. Never wash a car
after painting make sure to buff it and polish before you wash it.
When it comes to custom painting Two Tone is one of the most used. Two tone
paint jobs are used on a lot of factory cars but usually separated with moldings. Two
tone is where the bottom of the car is one color and the top is another. When doing
custom painting you can do more than just two tones you can do three tones or
even four tones. Alot of times people separate the colors by a pin strip so that the
colors don t look like to walls of color, the pin strip helps carry your eye without
realizing the strip is there.
When you are going to do two tone you must mask off the part you are not painting
and spray the color on the first part, this is usually the bottom first. Once what you
have sprayed dryer you will mask over it leaving the unsprayed area to view. Then
you spray the next color of choice. Once the last layer has dried take the paper off the
panel and clear over the whole thing. If you plan to spray a Strip in between you can
must do this before clear coating the hole panel. Wood Grain is something that was
started a long time ago with wood grain cars. Painting wood grain is a good way to
bring back that vintage wood grain look. There are many ways to do wood grain and
here are some. One of the most used ways is to spray a brown then your base color

11. Hills Like White Elephants Literary Analysis
It takes great strength and literary merit as a writer to discuss taboo topics brought
about during their time period. This is exemplified by Ernest Hemingway in his short
story, Hills Like White Elephants. While the actual operation in the story is never
completely discussed, the reader is able to conclude that the couple presented is
talking about, or rather around the subject of getting an abortion. The stylistic choice
of not specifically naming the operation shows an immediate and growing disconnect
between the two major characters in the story. Through the use of many relevant and
appropriate literary devices, Ernest Hemingwaydepicts a struggle over life and death.
The setting in Hills Like White Elephants is extremely important to
12. Mandatory Physical Education Research Paper
The number of obese children more than tripled since 1971. Physical education
should be a mandatory class, because at least one in three children in the U.S. are
overweight or obese. Obesity is causing a huge amount of health problems that
previously weren t seen until adulthood. If all children had PE class every day, it
would help reduce the number of children affected by obesity and children would
develop a habit of daily physical exercise. Some health problems obese kids are
getting can be very serious. These include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and
elevated blood pressure. Obese children commonly have a lower self esteem ,
negative body image and depression. Physical education is an essential part of
growing and learning, not just the physical part is takes a big roll on academic as
well. Without Physical education in schools, children would have trouble learning
about other things such as math or science. Physical activity stimulates the minds of
young children and keeps them on the ball when learning new things.

13. Case Study On Lionsgate
Would We Invest? Investing in Lionsgate would not be a wise investment decision.
The reasons are:
Uncertainty and risk, because of the following: The debt is potentially crippling
financially through increasing interest payments and the limitations that the loans
restrictive covenants put on Lionsgate. The increasing interest payments are a large
expense that limits net income as well as cash flows. Why would anybody invest in a
company that is almost guaranteed to have a lower net income next year and possibly
the year after? Also the limitation of cash flows can restrict certain business
strategies such as acquisitions which is key to Lionsgate strategy as it is how

They state their interest is in low cost niche products, but generate substantial
revenues from highly expensive film projects that are marketed to the general public
such as: The Hunger Games, The Expendables and Twilight. They still invest in niche
movies in the horror and international markets, but without their cash cows their
performance is limited substantially. This means revenues will substantially lower for
Lionsgate unless they go against their strategy again and produce and distribute a big
expensive film presentation. This should lead any investor to think Lionsgate s
performance isn t sustainable or at the very least consistent.
Recommendations:
Even though we have chosen not to invest in Lionsgate, there are certain strategies
and changes we recommend that will better their performance and possibly cause us
to invest in them in the future. They are:
Terminate the DVD segment of the Home Entertainment Packaged Media category
and focus exclusively on Blu ray: There is a massive trend of a declining DVD
rental and selling market. Lionsgate could shut down their DVD department and
focus on just producing in the much more stable blu ray market. This would save
costs of producing and holding DVD inventory and avoid the eventual losses down
the road from declining DVD
14. Forests And Temperate Grasslands
Grasslands are lands that have a lot of grass! Grasslands have very few trees. This
is because it does not rain enough to grow many trees. There are two kinds of
grasslands: savannas and temperate grasslands. A savanna is a grassland found in
warm climates. The largest savanna is in Africa. Savannas have many herbivores
or plant eating animals such as elephants, giraffes, and zebras. Many of these
animals eat grass. They also have carnivores or meat eating animals such as lions,
cheetahs, and hyenas. Temperate grasslands have a lot of grass and good soil for
farming. Temperate grasslands are also called prairies, steppes, or pampas. The
weather here is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Some of the animals that
live here are rabbits, buffalo, wolves, and insects. Forests are full of lots of trees!
There are 3 kinds of forests: tropical forests, temperate forests, and boreal forests.
Each different kind of forest has different types of trees and animals. Tropical
forests are found in hot and humid places near the equator. Rainforests and jungles
are tropical forests. It is called a rainforest because it rains a lot. Animals such as
snakes, gorillas, jaguars, monkeys, and parrots live here. Temperate forests are like
the forests we are used to. The leaves change color with the seasons. Maple, elm,
and oak trees are found in temperate forests. Some of the animals that live here are
mountain lions, bears, deer, and squirrels. Boreal forests are found in the North and
15. The Importance Of Teacher Quality And Promote Learning
The purpose of teacher evaluations is to ensure teacher quality and to promote
learning. The Framework for Teaching, by Charlotte Danielson, has effectively
identified 4 domains reflecting the responsibilities of teachers. The domains of
teacher responsibility outlined in this evaluation tool are: Planning and Preparation,
The Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities. Within
each of the 4 domains, there are descriptive elements exemplifying the characteristics
of the domain. Teacher quality is an important factor in maintaining excellence in
educational performance within schooldistricts. Therefore, districts must determine
an effective and efficient way of evaluating new teachers and career teachers in...

With this information, schools gain a valuable resource in teachers who can mentor
or coach peers. These accomplished teachers become an example of good teaching.
Another valuable use of this evaluation tool is that it can be used to evaluate the
skills of teachers for licensing candidacy, contract continuance, and affirmation of
distinguished demonstration of teaching skills of experienced teachers. Using the
tool for training teachers to mentor or coach and to evaluate teaching skills and
responsibilities provides reliable evidence to ensure teacher quality. The ongoing use
of this evaluation tool will also provide feedback and evidence of growth in the
domains of teaching responsibilities. This compilation of evidence provides
documentation of strengths and weaknesses among teachers that can be used to
determine areas needed for professional development. Teachers will be an active part
of the evaluation process as they learn and grow through communication, reflection,
and interaction with peers and supervisors. Teachers can learn about themselves
through the implementation of Teaching Framework. Learning takes place because
teachers will have the opportunity to discover a common understanding of what good
teaching is, receive feedback through interactive performance critiques.

The National Adoption and Foster Care Home Study Act (H.R.1650/S.684) aims to
improve and standardize child welfare practices across states by instituting a national

2017 as a bipartisan bill and now sits in the House Committee on Educationand the

His exact number of sponsorships is unclear given that child welfare legislation can
be wrapped into other bills. A congress.gov search shows that he has sponsored or
co sponsored about 70 bills that contain foster care or child welfare in their title or
summary since 2001.
If CWLA were to mobilize Rep. Price, it would be a waste of resources. Not only
does he already support most legislation that aims to improve the foster care
system, he also does not have a say in the bill moving forward to the House floor.
He is not a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
Therefore, CWLA should not lobby Rep. Price, despite him being a friend. Instead,
CWLA needs to focus on the committee chairperson, Rep. Virginia Foxx. Focus
should be on making the bill an important issue in the committee so that the
Education and Workforce committee will present it to the House floor for a vote.
The most difficult part of ensuring the bill s success is getting it to the floor for a vote.
To lobby Rep. Foxx, CWLA can tailor the evidence to North Carolina and how
many children could be placed in permanent families or foster families instead of
group homes if H.R. 1650 is passed. CWLA should also bring Rep. Foxx and other
committee members to foster and adoptive homes compared to group homes, and
facilitate meetings with foster youth. These experiences and insight directly from

19. Theory Of Forgiveness In Criminal Justice
Forgiveness is defined as to stop feeling anger toward someone who has done
something wrong or to stop blaming someone for the wrong in which they have
caused. It is also defined as the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven.
According to Bishop Butler, forgiveness is the forswearing of resentment the
resolute overcoming of the anger and hatred that are naturally directed toward a
person who has done one an unjustified and non excused moral injury (Joseph
Butler, 1726). Mercy is having compassion or kind forbearance that is shown
toward an offender, an enemy, or other persons in one s power. Mercy is also
known as the discretionary power of a judge to pardon someone or to mitigate
punishment, especially to send to prison rather than invoke the death penalty; an act
of kindness, compassion, or favor (CITE). Lastly, the theory of Retribution is used to
justify the need for punishment or in other words this is viewed as a way of getting
even with an offender.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because when a victim forgives his or her wrongdoer, they forgiving for the well

20. Dry Filters During WWII
During the Second World War a multitude of dry filters containing wood wool, sisal
fibre, glass wool, wood chips soaked in oil, and other types of fibrous or granular
material were used for removal of the fine dust (average particle size below 60
micron), but success was very limited.
Wet purifiers such as water and oil scrubbers and bubblers are also effective but only
within certain limits.
The best cleaning effect is obtained by employing cloth filters. However, normal cloth
filters are very sensitive to the gas temperature. In the case of wood or agricultural
waste gasification, the dew point of the gas will be around 70 C. Below this
temperature water will condense in the filters, causing obstruction of the gas flow and
an unacceptable

companies are coming up with various network monitoring analysis tools. But these
tools are restricted in giving the network topology and traffic analysis. Further such
tools are too costly. Still such tools have huge demand in the market, as it simplifies
the network management process by a great deal. Also with the expansion of
Software Defined Network, network analysis space is gaining a tremendous amount
of importance since such tools are needed to refine the network performance. For
example, Birch Communications is planning to develop a real time monitoring tool

SolarWinds, Juniper Network and many more are constantly striving hard to make
progress in this perspective. Business Concept: The idea of developing such product

network administrator had to face in resolving network issues in the backbone of the
Internet. External Gateway Protocol (EGP) are incapable of adjusting to the network
anomalies easily. Moreover, hackers can also introduce delays, loops that affect the
network connectivity and operations. Hence to resolve these issues at faster rate the

In Colm Toibin s Brooklyn, there are many opportunities for the protagonist Eilis
Lacey that are handed to her. Despite these opportunities, the path of least
resistance is chosen. Many hardships are faced every day. Eilis feels that she has
no other options but to take what s given to her and be happy with it. Not only are
her options a mess but so is her lovelife. Relationships can be difficult; but between
Eilis and Tony, the much needed effort is not being put in. An unhappy and
unfulfilled life, is led when Eilis realizes that she has not done anything for herself,
only to please others. Eilis was faced with many tough decisions, these were taking
without forethought. Therefore, Eilis s life was not fulfilled in the way it could have

Eilis has a problem with speaking her mind; she does not want to make anyone
angry with her, even if this leaves her miserable. Eilis feels extremely silent with
some of her opinions She wished she could think of something smart to say to Miss

Male and Female Nonverbal Indicators in Physical Attraction
Abstract
This study explores the reasons and origins behind nonverbal indicators in respect to
male and female physical attraction. In addition to myself, a male and female subject
were interviewed to see what nonverbal indicators we found to be attractive in men
and women as well as what we thought the opposite sex found to be attractive in both
sexes. Results suggested that despite social and cultural influences on physical
attractiveness, both men and women primarily take a bio evolutionary approach when
looking for nonverbal indicators. Both subjects looked for nonverbal indicators that
promote fertility in women and nonverbal indicators that promote the ability to ...

Subsequently, this need to accrue resources is placed on her partner so that she
may continue to nurse her child. With this idea in mind, women tend to be
attracted to men who bear physical signs of being able to impregnate her, help her,
and support her in raising a child. On the other hand, men look for a partner who is
capable of bearing a child if he wishes to see his genes persist in the gene pool.
Since women are born with only a certain number of eggs, it is important for the male
to find a mature female partner who bears the physical requirements to birth a child,
but not too old or else she may be infertile. For the remainder of this paper, specific
nonverbal indicators of physical attraction will be discussed in closer detail with
respect to the two evolutionary roles between men and women. May it be pointed
out however that it is debated as to whether or not these evolutionary roles are still
relevant. Many argue that these roles have drastically altered over time.
Obviously, the structure of society enables us to live beyond a hunter gatherer
lifestyle, and there are many examples seen today of these roles either disappearing
or even shifting between genders. That is to say men can just as easily stay at home
to raise a child while women may go to work and support the family. However, this
paper argues that despite the disappearance and shifting of these roles in today s

As I mentioned earlier, there were 2 trials that we performed for each solution, and
each trial had a different concentration. We did this to see what the pH change
would be like for changing concentrations. For mandelic acid, as molarity
increased, so did the K SUB a /SUB , but the pH value went down. This shows that
as the concentration increased, so did the strength of the acid, which is shown in
the K SUB a /SUB value increasing. The more acid there is, the stronger the
solution will be, as well as increasing the ability to dissociate. As the concentration
increased, the acidity value decreased. This means that the solution became more
acidic the more acid preset, the more acidic the solution is. But, despite the fact that
the K SUB a /SUB increased, it was by such a small amount that it is still considered
a weak acid. The same changes could be found in the trials that involved acetic acid.
As the concentration of the solution increased, so did the K SUB a /SUB , but the
pH value went down. And the reasons as such are the same for acetic acid as they
were for mandelic acid. Despite the change in K SUB a /SUB value, acetic acid is
still considered a weak acid.
26. Analysis Of Rape Fantasies By Margaret Atwood
Rape Fantasies by Margaret Atwood is a comedic approach to a very serious,
concerning topic. I believe what all of the fantasies discussed have in common is
that the perpetrator seems to be mindless, sensitive, and easily manipulated to
produce the outcome the fantasizer is desiring. Estelle also seems to be
sympathetic towards her rapists. I also noticed she seems to very degrading to
herself and personal appearance of both her and the rapists. For example, Atwood
describes her rapist: not only is he ugly, you know, with a sort of puffy nothing face,
like those fellows you have to talk to in the bank when your accountКјs overdrawn of
course I donКјt mean theyКјre all like that but heКјs absolutely covered in pimples

A handful of conflicted characters, a substantial amount of drama, and a dash of
enlightenment this is what makes up The Razor s Edge by W. Somerset

unwise it is to put complete faith in first impressions. At first glance, Laurence
Darrell and Isabel Bradley appear to be the epitome of an early 1900s couple:
young, naive, and extremely in love. Looking closer, Isabel seems to be the one in
control of their relationship. Larry is dependent upon Isabel for companionship,

The truth behind the tradition is surprising. Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims seem
to go together, but the truth is, the Pilgrims never held an autumnal Thanksgiving
feast. However the Pilgrims did have a feast in 1621, after their first harvest, and it
is this feast, which people often refer to as quot; The First Thanksgiving quot;. This
feast was never repeated, though, so it can t be called the beginning of a tradition,
nor was it termed by the colonists or quot;Pilgrims quot; a Thanksgiving Feast. In
fact, a day of thanksgiving was a day of prayer and fasting, and would have been

The truth of the matter is, when the Pilgrims arrived, they found an abandoned
Wampanoag village and moved right in. In 1618, a massive epidemic of an
unknown disease left by English explorers swept across Wampanoag country and
decimated many of the villages. This epidemic caused the death of ten to thirty
percent of the total population and all but a few of the 2,000 people of the village
of Patuxet. When the Pilgrims arrived in 1620, they landed at Patuxet with no idea
of what had occurred. At this point, there were only about 2,000 members left in
the Wampanoag tribe, down from 12,000 in 1600. Despite the incredible losses to
his people, Wampanoag leader Massasoit and 90 of his men sat down for a harvest
celebration offered by the white men. For three days the Wampanoag and Pilgrims
feasted on deer, wild turkey, fish, beans, squash, corn and other foods native to
North America. Although the celebration was good natured, this event truly
signifies the beginning of a drastic decline of native culture and Thanksgiving
would be more fittingly observed as a day of mourning rather than a celebration.
In the years that followed, skirmishes occurred and more Native Americans were
killed. In 1637, English soldiers massacred 700 Pequot men, women and children as
an example of the English way of war, yet we still celebrate Thanksgiving as a
joyful event. So, as we sit down for our Thanksgiving dinner,

31. Auburn Warriors Case Study
Auburn Warriors (9th)
It has been a tough year for Auburn, who only sit in ninth position due to the benefit
of having two byes. They have only won three games, none of which came in
consecutive weeks. On average they concede 32 points per game, a statistic that
has to be dramatically improved if they are any chance of forcing their way into the
top eight. The fact that they are one of two teams that have already had two of their
byes is a major disadvantage as they have a longer stretch of games in the run home
and they will need to win one more game than their surrounding teams just to
maintain ninth position. Obviously ninth position is not where the Warriors want to
stay, but they will need to overcome teams such as Blacktown, Peninsula and
Windsor in coming weeks to have any chance of cracking a top eight position.
Belrose (10th)
Belrose are sitting in tenth spot because of their poor results, not their poor

Celestine s costume consisted of a papal hat and a necklace with a cross to help
portray his character as a pope. Charon wore a large black cloak to show how he
takes souls of the deceased from the livid shore and guides them across the dark
river. Also, Charon is wearing masks arranged to depict his flaming eyes. The
tormented shades are wearing athletic clothing to show that they are competitors in
a race. Props that we used included a book, a scythe, a cross, a banner, and plastic
insects. The book, used as a bible, and the cross were used to help portray the
holiness of the characters. The scythe was used by Charon to represent the recent
death of the souls waiting to cross. The banner was used as a sign at the entrance of
the gates of hell to set the location. The plastic insects were thrown at the
competitors to represent the tormenting of the waverers by wasps and flies. We
chose to begin our commercial at the stairs outside of school to symbolize the
entrance to a stadium or coliseum. Emily and I decided to film Celestine in the
cafeteria to portray him in an arena like were the race would take place. Our
original plan was to film Celestine s scene in the sophomore and junior commons
but they were blocked off and filled with chairs. We filmed Charon on one side of
the hallway to portray him as being on the shore of the Acheron. Eli Greer, David
Winters, and I acted in this commercial. Eli was chosen to be Celestine V because
he displayed the athleticism and attitude needed to portray his character. David
was chosen for Moses because he was able to capture the stoic nature of his
character and was able to present the change of emotion that we were looking for
from his character. I was chosen to play Charon because I was willing to wear the
two masks needed to represent his flaming eyes. Members of the cross country team

33. Life Span Developmental Theory
A concept that I found to be positive from this theory is that development can occur
throughout the life span. An individual can develop their minds, emotions, body, and
relationships into adulthood. This allows individuals to play an active role in
promoting positive development throughout their life span. I think the concept of
lifelong development is important when conducting counseling with adults. I also
think it could be used to argue for a justice system based on rehabilitation verses
punishment. If development continues into adulthood, why couldn t individuals be
rehabilitated? Another positive concept from Life Span Developmental Theory is
that development is multi dimensional and directional. There are several variables,

The horizontal development calls for improving skills, abilities, and behaviors. It is
training which involves listening to experts, and training seminars that are content
heavy. The training calls for a lot of book learning and exams. Horizontal
development is identified as an approach that is most useful in solving problems.
Situations arise, and techniques are learned for solving them.
Mr. Petrie in his interviews asked the question, What do you think needs to be
stopped or phased out from the way leadership development is currently done?
(Petrie, 2014, p. 10). They answered, Competencies: they become either
overwhelming in number or incredibly generic. If you have nothing in place, they
are okay, but their use nearly always comes to a bad end. (Petrie, 2014, p. 10). The
horizontal development is associated with a competency model for the development
of a leader.
The vertical development consists of stages of development that people mature and
progress, and grow as they interact with and make sense of their world. Mr. Petrie
uses an analogy of pouring water into a glass and wrote, In metaphorical terms,
horizontal development is like pouring water into an empty glass. The vessel fills up
with new content (you learn more leadership techniques). In contrast, vertical

35. The Importance Of Animals Have A Sense Of Self-
Preservation
Question: How can we change our methods of consumption, knowing that animals
also have a sense of self preservation? By: (Fatima [Mina] Naseem) Self
preservation refers to the natural instincts that living things have in order to protect
or keep themselves alive. We can change our methods of consumption, knowing that
animals also have a sense of self preservation, by either changing the way animals
are treated during their life leading up to their death, or by not eating animals at all.
There seems to be a disconnect between the meatthat we see on our plates, and the
animal, including its life course and treatment. Through science and observation,
humans have concluded that other living beings have natural self preservation,
animals want to protect themselves when they have an outside threat, as we all
naturally do. The problem lies when looking at why, if we are going to eat animals
at all (which can be argued as a way for us to stay alive), the treatment must be so
horrifying to the beings that also want to stay alive. A world in which humans do not
eat meat all together, will likely never exist. Alternatively, a world in which humans
find a more humane and sustainable way to raise animals for consumption can be
possible, and is currently being worked on today. The three main elements to finding
alternate animal agricultureprocedures are humane practices, environmental
preservation, and the health benefits verse drawbacks of the meat itself and the effect

37. Real World Periodic Motion Analysis
Real World Periodic Function One of the key characteristics of periodic motion is
its period. The period, T, is the time required to complete one full cycle of the
motion. I chose a sprinkler because it takes approximately five seconds to move
from maximum displacement in one direction to maximum displacement in the
opposite direction. It again takes another five seconds to go back to the starting
point. In this case it takes ten seconds to complete one cycle of oscillation, and the
period is ten seconds. Since the sprinkler has a motion that repeats in equal intervals
of time, it is therefore a perfect example of periodic motion. As to derive the
functions used in this paper, I had to gather data for use in the analysis. This is

Hence, a diversified business operation insulates business risk. However, despite
both companies having a well diversified product portfolio, one can observe that
there are some differences between the two in terms of their products. As mentioned
above, Mars has been extending their main product line chocolate and introducing
new product lines by penetrating into new industries (e.g. drinks, petcare, nutritious
products). Moreover, Mars also penetrated into the chewing gum industry by
acquiring Wrigley in 2008, one of the leading confectionery companies in the
world with a wide product range. This acquisition, being one of the key success
factors of Mars, strengthened and diversified Mars confectionery business, as well
as increased its growth potential in the chocolate, non chocolate confectionery and
gum categories. Since Wrigley has worldwide presence, this acquisition enabled the
company to expand its operations and increase its market presence. Furthermore,
Wrigley s leading position and strong brand portfolio enabled Mars to become one
of the world s leading chewing gum manufacturers. Ferrero, however, has been
mainly focusing on extending their main product line Chocolate and did not
diversify their products in the same way as Mars did. Hence, based on these
observations, one can deduce that Mars is

Groenewald and Bhana conducted a study on the view and impact of being a
mother of a child who has substance abuse problems. It is without question drugs
cause diverse issues in the substance users life, however the individuals in the users
life can have just as many issues as a result. In this article it focuses on mothers who
go through this struggle in silence, to not disclose the difficulties they are having.
This study included five mothers who have a child with substance abuseissues. They
interviewed each mother in detail about their experience in this environment. Some of
the interview questions and answers were written in the article and although the
mothers answers were similar, they all had their own personal experiences that...

Strong, Ensminger and Juons article focuses on a study that shows the effect between
adolescence who smoke, and the probability they will have substance abuse issues as
an adult. This study focuses specifically on African Americans. The study also well
emphasizes that there isn t much data on the correlation, which is why the study is
very important. They followed over twelve hundred African Americans adolescents
for about forty years. In this sample, it included smokers as well as non smokers. The
results were pretty shocking. Adolescent smokers showed a much higher percentage
of substance abuse as an adult, especially with more dangerous substances like
cocaine, alcohol, and heroin. But what the study also found was that the correlation
between finishing school and dropping out also correlated to the likelihood to have a
substance abuse issue. (Strong, Ensminger Juon, 2016)
Focuses on a study that tries to determine if a prevention program that is network
based can help reduce high risk substance abuse adolescents.. For their study they
selected twenty five high schools, however only fourteen schools accepted their
study. With the study, there were twelve sessions, including forty seven classes and
over eight hundred students. They were then divided two groups, a placebo group,
and then a network based group where it was driven by peers and an interactive
version. The group who were

Essay
Introduction The groundswell , which is the term now being used for online social
technologies, such as blogs, social networking sites like MySpace, and user generated
sites like YouTube and numerous other online communities now common on the
Web, is making a dramatic impact on the way many organizations are conducting
their marketing strategies. These online social networking sites have enabled the
power to shift from the companies to the customer, this shift in power is being termed
customercentric . Companies can no longer rely on their perceptions of what
customers want or the way they want the customer to perceive their organization, or
products and services. The customers are now banning with one another through the

groundswell has affected companies, not just here in the United States, but
globally; as this is a phenomenon that is growing popular in many countries. The
researchers were also interested in examining how companies and their
management teams are dealing with the new cultural shift of power from company
to customer. The researchers took an in depth look into all the ways that proactive
companies are actually using the groundswell to their benefit and the affects it has
had on their business and strategic planning for the future. Methodology In this
article the researchers, Josh Bernoff and Charlene Li, focus on the the groundswell
in consumer centric behavior that has been instigated by the internet. They use
examples from use of social media by large companies such as Dell, Best Buy,
Fiskars, Chevrolet, and CBS. They looked at how each company had made use of
this new resource, and how each one has capitalized on its advantages. They then
broke down their findings into specific categories of how each company was using
the social web . These categories are Listening, Talking, Energizing, Supportingand
managing. They also researched how different departments in one company could use
each of their social media categories. In 2007, the researchers company,
42. Existentialism By Frank Kafk Isolation And Desperation
Existentialism can be defined in a multitude of forms. Frank Kafka was a prominent,
influential German language writer of novels and short stories; one of which includes
The Metamorphosis. His distinguishing philosophy of existentialism consists of two
main concepts: isolation and desperation. The notion of alienation is a fundamental
theme that is condensed throughout the short story. Gregor Samsa, main character
and protagonist of The Metamorphosis, goes through a complete physical
transfiguration that establishes the principle framework of the novel. In addition to
Gregor s metamorphosis, Kafka s existentialism is enforced to Gregor s death,
family figures, job conditions, and the weather conditions. Kafka s ideology
suggests that one knows that death is inevitable; one must cease to exist. Gregor s
physical transformation into an insect alienated him from himself, his own species,
and his own families. When Gregor Samsa woke up one morning from unsettling
dreams, he found himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin (Kafka, Pg 4).
Not once did Gregor question or panic about his physical change. Despite his
indifference state of mind about his appearance, he emerges to be more distressed in
terms of not attending work on time rather than his impulsive alteration. Gregor has
failed to develop a sense of individuality and lack of humanity. By the appellation
vermin, linguistic usage designates the lowest form of human self contempt. Seeing
himself as vermin,
43. Mountain Climbers Research Paper
Should climbers be entitled to rescue services on a mountain? When people are
climbing mountains such as Mount Everest or Mount Rainier they know what kind
of danger they are placing themselves in. Many people think that because the
services exist they can abuse it and call for help at any time. Even though these
services exist they should only be used in a crisis, because more people than one
climber are being put at risk. As the mountainsgrow in popularity more people want
to travel to them. Many companies are going in debt because of climbers who think
they know what they are doing when they do not. Furthermore, the reason some
people have for needing rescued are ridiculous. These are three main topics as to
why climbers should not be entitled to a rescue. To start off, people who climb places
such as Mount Everestand Mount Rainier put more than themselves at risk. Many
will argue that this is the reason rescue services exist. Although that is true, they were
created for crisis situations. For example, in Source 3 a park ranger on Mount... Show

In Source 1 they talk about the prices of certain equipment, one of which being
helicopters. It says in the article that in order to fly at those altitudes you have to
have a special type of helicopter. Which happens to cost approximately two million
dollars to construct. If rescue services are called for a climber and a helicopter has
to be used they are putting two million dollars on the line. A climber may be at a
high altitude and need rescue for a decision that went wrong, so the rescue services
would send a helicopter to try and export the climber. The high altitudes can cause a
pilot to lose control of the helicopter and crash. Which two million dollars for one
person is a lot of money to spend for just an attempt at rescue. Costs like this add on
to the fact that climbers should not be entitled to a
44. Correctional Institutions Case Study Essay
Correctional Institutions have a strict budget. Therefore, implementing new programs
is heavily reliable on how the institutions budget can be relocated to provide funds
for the new program. This paper will analyse the difficulties and challenges one faces
when trying to pilot a new program. The new programis a anger management
counseling program that will require $350,000 and two new counselors. However, the
program has shown impressive results in other correctional institutions.
The first hurdle that has to be taken is to convince a senior leadership team to
pursue the program, knowing very well that some of them are sceptical and do not
take the program very seriously, since they think that the program that will lose
interest very soon. In order to convince this team one could show them studies that
investigated the results of the program. If this program produced impressive positive
results in other facilities, there would be a couple of studies that supported this
conclusion. One could also evaluate the population of the facility and seeing that it
was similar to the populations that benefitted from the new program, would argue
that it is applicable to this specific facility. Further, one could also look at the
recidivism rates of those offenders that completed the program. If the recidivism
decreased it could be argued that this program would help re socialise inmates and
prevent them from returning to the system. The program could also affect the inmate s

Coffee Drinkers Unknown Role in Society
Being one of the most consumed beverages in the world, coffee has played a vital
role in today s culture. At present, it is hard to imagine a world without coffee,
however, before the thirteenth century, making the beverage from coffee beans was
undiscovered. Coffee got its start in Ethiopia, and by the fifteenth century, coffee
spread to the Arabian Peninsula and became an integral part of their religious
ceremonies. Coffee houses began to open up and they became a trendy place to
engage in conversation, listen to music, watch entertainers, play chess, and hear the

Such a loss is primarily due to the progression of technology and a change in
American s priorities. Social capital is defined as the networks of relationships
among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to
function effectively (Putnam 5). It is an essential element in a functioning society
because communicating with people is how ideas are shared, trust is built, and
people get involved in their community. Social capital is also important to the
general public because higher levels of interaction within a community have shown
to cause higher individual happiness levels, better overall well being, higher
academic performances, lower crime rates, and much more (Putnam 61). Coffee
drinkers, because of their constant interactions with each other and the worldwide
trade that takes place to fuel their habit, increase the social capital on both a local
and global scale. By congregating at coffee houses and raising the global trade of
the product, coffee drinkers have a positive effect in the US by increasing the social

The solid was dried until the next lab period, and was then weighed and a melting
point was taken. For the TLC analysis 3 x s were drawn on the bottom portion of a
TLC plate for the origins. A small amount of the crude Nitroacetanilide was
dissolved in warm ethanol and spotted on the TLC plate. A small amount of the
recrystallized Nitroacetanilide was dissolved in warm ethanol and spotted on the
same TLC plate, and the same was done for the filtrate. A UV lamp was used to
ensure that the right amount of sample was being used, then the plate was eluted in

49. Haskell s Portrayal Of Women In Reverence To Rape
In the excerpt Forties from the novel Reverence to Rape, Haskell examines the
portrayal of women in the films from the forties. American screenwriters during this
time portrayed female protagonists in a negative way. Women were displayed as
severely evil and immoral beings. This was a great contrast to the sexually and
morally free women in the films created in the thirties.
The Forties were a time where films were grim. What was interesting to me was the
relation to film noir. The films were very dark and focused on the negatives in
society. These films highlighted crime, mental illness, violence, and more. Due to the
large amounts of cynicism and depression in society, relationships were rooted in fear
and suspicion, impotence and inadequacy (Haskell, 196). Relationships were depicted
as con games, men tricked women and women tricked ... Show more content on

There was a large amount of infidelity and relationship woes being displayed by both
female and male protagonists in forties films.
The Forties began the era of the good girl vs the bad girl and the angel vs. the
devil. Some women were being put down in the films created in the forties. These
women were displayed as lacking high self esteem and were accepting of bad
treatment from men. These women were women in waiting ; those who would
sacrifice themselves for the love of a man. They were the good girls that were
walked all over by men. This contrasted with the bad women of the forties. These
women were con women. They were into criminal activity just as the men were and
would trick men or drag the men down with them. These women were viewed as
liars and treacherous. The bad girls were viewed as beings with no soul who lacked
morality and emotions. Instead of aspiring

From 13,000 fans during the first race 50 years ago to over 300,000 fans at a single
event today, the NASCAR sport has evolved over the years in various ways. In the
beginning, stock car drivers actually bought brand new cars from dealers and went
racing. The first strictly stock car race sanctioned by NASCARin Charlotte, North
Carolina in 1949 had no safety requirements for competing cars. They were true
stock cars in every sense of the word, completely unmodified and in hindsight,
incredibly unsafe. There were no extra or special requirements for drivers and cars
that raced than there were for street vehicles. Today, NASCAR racecars have very
little in common with street cars because almost every detail of a NASCAR vehicle

Opposite to popular belief, speed must be maintained at a high level to prevent
fatal accidents from occurring. The idea behind this is that when drivers are
unable to hold their high speed, cars tend to bunch up in certain areas of the track,
such as corners. When cars bunch up, and the space between cars starts to
minimize, risk for accidents and impacts with other drivers maximize. NASCAR
tracks use banking, The degree of incline present on the racing surface at each
track, to help a car s downforce and velocity through a turn, while minimizing
lateral slip (Hansen). Banking is present at every NASCAR sanctioned track, but
the degree of banking varies from speedway to speedway. The steepest banking
occurs at the corners of each track but straightaways have a slight degree of
banking as well. Drivers keep the pedal mashed to the floor during straightaways
and the higher the banking, the more of that speed they are able to carry into the
corner and the quicker they are able to return to the gas. Talladega Superspeedway
is the steepest of all tracks where NASCAR holds national series events, where the
main turns are pitched at a robust 33 degrees. Conversely, New Hampshire Motor
Speedway has a slight 7 degree banking, which is relatively flat. Stock cars are able
to travel at speeds upwards of 200 miles per hour at Talladega Superspeedway while
at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, can only
