Race Discrimination Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of race discrimination is a challenging endeavor that demands a
thoughtful and nuanced approach. This topic encompasses a complex web of historical, social,
and cultural factors, making it crucial for the writer to navigate through a myriad of sensitive
issues. Delving into the intricacies of race relations requires a deep understanding of the historical
context, contemporary manifestations, and the psychological impact on individuals and
communities.
The difficulty arises from the need to strike a balance between presenting factual information
and engaging the reader emotionally. Addressing the historical roots of race discrimination while
examining its current manifestations demands thorough research and critical analysis. Moreover,
the writer must be adept at navigating through potentially controversial and uncomfortable
subjects, maintaining objectivity while acknowledging the profound impact of discrimination on
marginalized communities.
The challenge lies not only in presenting a coherent argument but also in fostering empathy and
understanding among readers. Communicating the urgency of dismantling discriminatory
systems and promoting equality requires a skillful use of language, avoiding stereotypes or
inadvertently reinforcing harmful narratives.
Furthermore, an essay on race discrimination necessitates a commitment to accuracy and
sensitivity, ensuring that the diverse experiences of various racial and ethnic groups are
acknowledged and respected. The writer must be aware of their own biases and work diligently
to avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes or inadvertently contributing to the perpetuation of
discrimination.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on race discrimination demands more than just writing skills; it
requires a profound understanding of historical context, cultural nuances, and a commitment to
fostering empathy and understanding. It is a task that necessitates sensitivity, objectivity, and an
unwavering dedication to dismantling discriminatory structures.

Essay about President Bush And Us Foreign Policy
The United States election in 2000 raised a debate between democrat and
republican and in the end the American people chose a new leader Mr. George w.
Bush. President Bush clearly defined foreign policy objectives and goals. I have
seen and hear our dear President Bush foreign policy after September 11. Following
this, Bush has established its top priorities in foreign policy. He claims that an acts in
the government to improve the international community through negotiation and

Bush, as well as our society, feels the president should be strong especially in
international politics and policies. When the United States was attacked September
11, 2001, the people looked to the president to lead, and in essence, seek revenge. On
both of these levels of domestic considerations, we will never know to exactly what
extent they influence the president s choice of action, but they help us in
understanding some of the foreign policy decisions. Going beyond the individual to
the expectations of the position, the role consideration plays an influential domestic
part in the response to an external event and ultimately foreign policymaking.
Furthermore to do this, Bush s administration has outlined some specific objectives.
Allies are crucial to conduct foreign operations, so the Bush has joined several
international organizations that allow it to serve at the forefront of international
policy. Some of the more famous ones are the United Nations, which is the biggest
organization and has many sub level organizations, the World Trade Organization, the
World Health Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank
Group (Directory of Economic, Commodity and Developmental Organizations).
Knowing that United States is involved in these international organizations President
Bush refuses to listen to UN (United Nation) and
Chronology Of A Rose For Emily By Faulkner
In the story A Rose for Emily, the actually chronology of the events that occurred
happened in a much different order than the one that Faulkner told them in which
allows the reader to get a better insight into the characters and the plot of the story.
Faulkner begins telling the story from Emily Grierson s funeral, but quickly
switches into a flashback, a move he does often throughout the story, to begin telling
the reader about Emily s struggle with taxes and the changing of the administration
of the town in which she lived. In this scene, Faulkner gives Emily the impression
of her being older in age as she told the townspeople to See Colonel Sartoris when he
had been dead almost ten years (2). Faulkner then again switches time rapidly

Mafalda Charlie Brown
Mafalda: The Argentine Charlie Brown? In 1963, Argentine cartoon strip artist
JoaquГn Salvador Lavado, better known as Quino, was commissioned to create a
Peanuts esk advertisement for a brand of domestic appliances (Kuntz). To familiarize
himself with Peanuts, American cartoon by Charles M. Schulz, Quino purchased all
of the Peanutsbooks that he could find in Buenos Aires (Kuntz). After studying
Schulz s work Quino adapted the general concept for an Argentine audience and
Mafalda was born (Kuntz). Unfortunately the world did not meet Mafalda in 1963
through the ad campaign because the magazine that was going to publish the
cartoons realized it was closet advertising (qtd in Kuntz). It would take another year
before Mafalda made her debut in the Argentine magazine Primera Plana (Cosse).
Mafalda went on to run parallel to Peanuts from 1964 to 1973 (Patten; Charles M.
Schulz Museum). For the decade that they were both in print how do they compare
to each other? Given that Quino originally based Mafalda of Peanuts in what ways
are they similar and different? An... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Charlie Brown the parents and teachers of the children are never shown (Charles

comic strip show the adults saying mwa mwa mwa mwa (qtd in Molinari). In
Mafalda it is the exact opposite with Mafaldas parents and teachers not only
shown, but also play an integral part in the comic strip (see fig. 1). Quino shows
Mafalda living in a normal world populated by both adults and children (Foster).
The comparison makes Schulzs world seem strange that there are no adults, but only
children. With Mafalda we see her parents and her little brother Guille, but the only
family we see of Charlie Brown is his little sister Sally (Foster; Charles M. Schulz

In actively managed funds the manager tries to beat the market by selling and
buying assets. Passively managed funds consist of a large number of assets and
try to by diversification to perform as well as the market. The passively managed
funds are much cheaper as they require less work and transactions. This research
tries to address the problem from an investor s point of view, which kind of funds
are the best ones to invest in? If the active funds would constantly outperform the
market the effective market hypothesis should be questioned. Still there might be
some funds that can beat the market due to luck or skill of the fund manager. There
is evidence going both ways depending time period or researcher. By using risk

THE FINNISH FUND MARKET
Most of the investments made by private investors in Finland are made via local
banks, like in the rest of Europe. The Finnish banks charge high expenses in
comparison to other banks for managing a mutual fund, which is most likely due to
the fact that the private households in Finland are loyal customers to one bank and
Wealthy Watches
We conducted several processes to test the accounts receivable of Wealthy Watches
Inc. At the beginning, we agreed the balance of the accounts receivable detail listing
to the trial balance and subsequently to the financial statements to ensure
completeness of the population.
Before conduct testing, we made professional judgment to identify the most risky
items in a population for detailed testing. In this process, the sufficiency of population
will be addressed because that the risk based approach will only test the sampled part
of population, the remaining part of population will be immaterial or testing in other
manners. After imported data file, we must ensure the accurate of data population
before conduct testing.
First, we conducted risk based approach with data analysis techniques unusual invoice
and unusual comments, to identify the unusual items that are in the accounts
receivable detailed listing, and tested whether there are invoices outside the expected
range of invoice number and special comments associated with accounts receivable
items. As a result, there were no invoice number out of range, and Invoice 1000919,
1000845, 1001097 are special comments associated with accounts receivable. ...

We applied judgment to determine whether any specific items within the population
should be selected for individual testing in order to mitigate RMM. We inputted High
Value Amount which separated high risk transactions and low risk transactions which
can reduce the assurance needed from sampling procedure and the necessary sample
size. Also, we took into account tolerable misstatement for the population; the
allowable risk of incorrect acceptance and additional characteristics of the population
to determine which items would be selected in a sample for particular substantive test

Black Death Effect
In 1348 the Black death arrived on European shores. The first part of Europe to get
infected was Sicily. The international gates of Genoa and Venice experienced the
symptoms about a year later. A lot people think the beginnings of the plague moved
westward with trade caravans. Genoese and Venetian merchants got infected during a
siege of their trading posts at Caffa. They brought the disease with them into the
Mediterranean, Constantinople and Europe. Muslim merchants imported plaguefrom
Constantinople to Alexandria, Egypt. After that, others spread it to the westward
Africa and the Middle East.
By 1350, when the Black Death retreated, it had already cut a quarter to half of the
region s population. In 1362, 1368, and 1381, The Black Death struck again and
would intermittently strike during the 18th century. In the beginning of the Black

When towns started to get infected, some merchants boarded ships to Venice and
Genoa. But when they arrived there, only a few of those merchants were still alive.
During the Black Death, long distance merchants risked having their cargo and
supplies destroyed, quarantined, or delayed. Some trade cities would turn the
supplies away from their docks or gates. Retail merchants usually shut down their
shops, stopping their income and depriving their customers of their wares.
Finally, the worst of the Black Death had passed. Prices of many goods increased as
customers went to reopened markets and shops. Surviving merchants had an
advantage because of the increased prices by the deaths of their competitors.
Merchants were able to hire workers and laborers because they were freed from the
feudal system. Many wealthy surviving merchants were able to own land. Many
wealthy merchants, who were Catholic, donated generous gifts that included
contributions to local charities and the creation of huge
Analysis Of Goodbye Earl
From their Grammy award winning album Fly, Goodbye Earl was a track that led
to much controversy. The overall theme of the song concerned domestic violence.
By using Kenneth Burke s Pentad, otherwise known as dramatism, one will be
able to find the concept of motive from the characters involved and their actions.
There are five elements to the pentad: agent, act, scene, agency and purpose. The
pentad is necessary when trying to develop an argument, as it can produce several
possibilities that can have relation to each other. In Goodbye Earl , the agents
would be best friends Wanda and Mary Anne. These are the main characters that
are involved in the act of the situation. The act explains what happened or what the
exact action was. In this case, Wanda and Mary Anne s act was to kill Mary Anne s
husband Earl. The scene is the background situation or the drama that lead up to
the act being committed. After high school graduation, Mary Anne gets married to
a man named Earl and soon after he began abusing her. She files for divorce and a
restraining order, but the legal system does not keep him from harming her and she
ends up in intensive care. This would lead to the question of agency, or how the
agents act and with what means. After Mary Anne recovers, she flies out to Atlanta
to confide in Wanda and they create a plan together to kill Earl by the means of
poison. Why do they kill Earl? It is safe to assume that their purpose, the 5th element
of the pentad, was
What Does Cobie Cailop Try Essay
The standards society hold for women today are wiped away in Colbie Caillat s
song Try. Caillat uses simplicity and a contemporary music style in Try to convey
the suffocation women feel because they try to live up to these stereotypes in the
21st century. When Caillat wrote her song, she used repetition of her lyrics to hit
home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out. Caillat stated in an
interview that When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks amazing, the
first thing people comment on is your image . . . when you don t wear makeup,
you hear things like, Oh wow, you look tired or you re so brave for not wearing
makeup! Caillat uses her words, and influence as a celebrity, to reject the typical

We see all skin types, various ages, different races, and all the women stand in front
of a plain and drab background, putting them at the center of attention. Caillat
starts out all dolled up and then proceeds, along with the other women, to take off
the makeup, and in some cases hair extensions and a wig, to un Photoshop
themselves. A lot of close up shots showed only their faces, and side by side videos
of before and after as the women wiped off their makeup with solemn faces, but
showed smiling or laughing faces when not wearing makeup. I saw relief in their
faces as they accepted themselves, and they showed the world their happiness as it
literally shined out of their faces like sunbeams. They stared directly into the
camera, challenging it as they sang along with Caillat s words. Although this song
carries a strong body positivity message, the imperfections bore proudly by the
women in the video are the imperfections deemed appropriate, or more common, to
society such as being overweight, having a gap in between teeth, frizzy hair,
freckles, and wrinkles. The lighting was perfect and nobody s skin was oily, had any
acne, discoloration, or scars. Those imperfections society judges more because it is
gross and easy to point out. These women looked beautiful with and without makeup,
but without they were liberated and showed their true beauty and who they were.
After watching the video all around the world, people understand how society s
expectations make women feel

Mineral Springs Hotel and Bathhouse, plus getting paid for still working there, and
now collecting a monthly pension, Charles is able to purchase a lot and a half for
$150 ($4,000 in 2017). He is undeniably enthusiastic as he hires men to build the
first house that he and Elizabeth have ever owned. And what a location. Near the
end of a dead end street, it is only a one block walk to church and a three block
walk to work. As August of 1907 arrives, the Okawville newspaper announces that

What a feeling of relief and of satisfaction when he receives word on December 5 that
he has won again. His pension is to be increased to $8.00 ($210 in 2017) a month.
Earning a pension that brings in $96 ($2,500) a year is a significant increase in the
income of Charles when the average worker only makes $.22 an hour. (L141)
Charles and Elizabeth now have two more members in their family. Their first
grandchild, Charlie Koehler, is born in East St. Louis back in 1903 and their
second and third grandchildren, Grace and Irene Hall, are born in 1906 and 1907.
Now, in 1908, they add two more grandchildren with the births of Orval Koehler

Charles and Elizabeth are unable to see them on a regular basis. They are helped by
the recent addition of a $1.25 ($34 in 2017) round trip train ticket that can be

that has kept us alive throughout centuries and has been around since our
existence. It s become a prioritized need humans strive for to survive on the daily. A
cycle in which we need to be aware of not only because of its significant value, but
also because of the situation its causing to people around the world. Our world is
made up of 71 percent of water, but only 3 percent is considered natural fresh
water. This makes up that 68 percent of water is mostly found in oceans or

In the article Provide access to clean water from the Grand Challenges for

unhealthy immune system which could potentially lead to death. Waterborne diseases
are caused by drinking contaminated or dirty water. Contaminated water can cause
many types of diarrheal diseases, including Cholera, and other serious illnesses such
as Guinea worm disease, Typhoid, and Dysentery. (Rader, Meryl) This claim
emphasizes why having access to clean water is important to prevent any of these
diseases from happening. Most of our clean water comes from digging wells to
building dams, engineers have historically been prime providers of methods for

Essay The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
Methodological Introduction
This paper attempts to link the facet of queer theory that explains gender and
sexuality as culturally constructed identities, with the presence of the berdache in the
New World at the time of the Spanish conquest. By analyzing the construction of
gender and sexuality among the native peoples, in contrast to the ideologies of the
Spanish, I found a clash arose which explained, in some sense, the incompatibility of
the two cultures. The differences between the two cultures gender construction
established support for the very un natural or in essential nature of gender, sexuality,
and the body as a means of self identity. By realizing the issue of power and ... Show

The clash of gender identity existing between these two cultures led to
misrepresentations of the natives by the Spaniards.
It is also necessary, before diving into the concepts of this paper, that I elucidate the
terms which I will be using, as they are easily confused. Gender, in the context of
this paper will describe the sets of culturally prescribed behaviors, actions, and
functions assigned to a particular sex. Sex, when used as an adjective, will refer to
the biological or chromosomal physical identity which separates males from females.
Sexuality, like gender, will be used to define individuals on the basis of their cultural
/social role within society, but not as an unchangeable feature of a person s identity. It
is important to distinguish the meaning of these terms because as they are commonly
used, they are usually considered synonyms in some way. By separating and
elucidating their meanings, I hope to further press the queer theorist argument that
gender and identity within one s sexuality are deeply imbedded in social influences.
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Spanish encountered many things upon treading their first steps onto the soil of
a new and mysterious continent. The natives were a group so foreign, the Spaniards
questioned whether they were even human. This experience of contact, then conquest
and colonization introduced
Fan Identity
One of the main points of discussion is the idea of the fanatic itself and how
fandom is an accepted mode of obsession in the contemporary world. Much of the
discourse on the subject deals with the complex psychology of the word through
anthropological and psychoanalytical work on what it means to be a fanthe mixture of
reverence for their object of affection, but also the embarrassment of being associated
with what some might deem as crazy or superficial. The definition of fan has altered
over time, with it becoming increasingly negative. Many fans even shy away from
calling themselves that, or separate their fandomidentity (often found online) with
their real life identity. While much has been written in the beginning of fandom

Zora Hurston s short story Sweat , is trapped in a poisonous relationship with her
husband Sykes. It is this abusive and adulterous marriage that causes Delia to make
no attempt to save his life from a snake bite.
Delia suffered from mental and physical abuse from her husband. Sykes had
previously beaten Delia, He done beat huh nough tuh kill three women, let lone
change they looks. (Hurston 280). The story starts with Delia in the kitchen
sorting clothes when Sykes scares her with his whip. You know it would skeer me
looks just like a snake, an you knows how skeered Ah is of snakes. (Hurston 277).
The whip is a symbol of evil and the masculine oppression the Delia has to deal with
throughout the story. She saw that Sykes had kicked all of the clothes together
again, and now stood in her way truculently, his whole manner hoping, praying for
an argument. (Hurston 278). The white clothes that Delia is washing represent her
pureness and Sykes kicking them and dirtying them up signifies his abusiveness
towards Delia. Sykes lives his life to torment Delia, further showing his evilness.
However, Delia s strong religious believes keep her in the abusive adultery
relationship, though she is looking for a way out.
Not only was Sykes abusive to Delia he was also unfaithful, having a mistress named
Bertha.

The innovation of The Jazz Singer allows it to hold an important place in film
history for being among the first synchronized sound films. It is credited for ending
the silent film era and pioneering new and creative ways to tell stories. However,
silent films would still be made way into the 1930s, and Charlie Chaplin s Modern

to learn that The Jazz Singerwas not the first film to use sound. 1926 s Don Juan was

As we already know, the health care technologies are evolving every day which
means there will be new improvements and upgrades on the old versions all the time.
This could be a very herculean task to keep up with such upgrades and advancements.
For example, if a hospital chooses to buy a model of MRI machine and a new
upgrade is introduced to the model the next year, the hospital is required to upgrade
their equipment which could be expensive and time consuming procedure; not to
mention the amount of energy, money and resources which will be needed to train
new staffs to operate the machine and technicians to service the machines on a
regular basis to keep the equipment up to date. This could be also a struggle for the
old staffs. The technological advancement in the world is always interconnected
between different areas of technology. For example, the technological advancement in
the field of telecommunications, computer system architecture and also software
developments have vastly contributed to the growth and advancement of health
technologies that exists in the present day. For example, the invention of computers,
smaller memory disks that can store large amount of information and sophisticated
software systems that can analyse data in a short amount of time have lead the health
technology to its prime advancement which is the paperless patient records and also

article Violent Media Is Good For Kids, comic book author Gerald Jones, claims that
violent media such as comic books and cartoons can have a positive effect on our
children because children use violent stories to meet their emotional and
developmental needs. Jones argues against other people s views that violent media
will have a negative influence on children. Gerald Jones had many strengths in his
article which helped support his argument and could possible make his argument
effective. His strengths were mainly the use of emotional appeal like story telling and
personal experiences to help convince his audience. While Jones s essay started off
strong, he only gave a few weaknesses like the lack of examples and how he only
used one reference, his life, to justify his point of view which in the end did not help
persuade the audience.
Before beginning my analysis, it is important to summarize Jones argument. Jones
idolizes violent media as an excellent way for shaping children s attitude and
perception of life, believing it gives a positive effect. Jones also believes it can be
positive for the children if are not isolated from it. He disagrees with some people s
views on how they think violent media will lead a negative effect because they
believe it keeps children from expressing themselves and their feelings. Jones claims

The Male Characters Of Disney Films
The male characters in Disney films have evolved with today s society, in which
male and female counterparts are equal. In the era of Walt Disney, the prince saved
the princess, as seen in Sleeping Beauty. The prince possessed masculine or
hypermasculine characteristics strong, muscular, broad, tall, ambitious and hard.
However, in later Disney the male characters began to soften, as seen in Hercules. In
Masculinityas Social Semiotic Identity Politics and Genderin Disney Animated Films,
Robyn McCallum discussed how the male protagonist in films such as Mulan,
Hercules and Tarzan transformed into a new man, a man that possessed stereotypical
female traits (McCalllum, 2002). However, it can be argued that although the new
man has mentally changed they have physically stayed the same since Sleeping
Beauty. In classic Disney, the prince rescued the distressed princess. The prince
could be classified as hypermasculine, strong, muscular, hard, tall and broad.
Although he does play a large role in Disney films, often the deuteragonist, his name
is not commonly used. They are simply known as The Prince or Prince Charming as
represented in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or Cinderella. Their proper names,
Prince Florian (The Prince) and Prince Henry (Prince Charming), are seldom used.
Additionally, the prince does not have as much screen time when compared to their
female counterparts. In the original Cinderella, Prince Charming receives only six
minutes of screen

The Positive Impact Of The Juvenile Justice System
The Juvenile Justice system (JJS) is not beneficial to the civilians in the
community.Young adults that have committed indescribable crimes are being
released back into the community for a second chance. This is endangering the
lives of other innocent people and is definitely not helping the juvenile in
anyway.Kevin C Framingham has a very strong opinion in which he is agreeing
with the way the JJS is ran. Mr. Framingham wrote an article For Teen Ink about
how rehabilitating young criminals is an amazing idea. The article is called
Punishment or Rehabilitation? . He answered the question many people ask What
is the true aim of our prison system? The answer he gave was Their most important
function must be to rehabilitate criminals into society so prisons can have a
positive effect on inmates .This should not be the goal in our JJS. As of now, the
JJS is rehabilitating murders, molesters, sexual assaulters, ect. These dangerous
criminals are released back into the world. This is putting men, women, and children
in danger everyday ,yet the JJS still does it. In the month of May,2015 two twelve
year old girls stabbed their friend,Payton Leutner, nineteen times repeatedly.Anissa
Weier and Morgan Geyser said that they attempted to kill their friend to be accepted

two girls lured their dear friend into the woods where they stabbed her and then left

Analysis Of George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
The author of Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell, describes his moral troubles as
a police officer in Moulmein in lower Burma (known as Myanmar in the twenty first
century) when encouraged by its citizens to kill a rogue elephant in town. Orwell
details how nearly every citizen in Moulmein had a grudge against Europeans, and
would, as a result, antagonize any European in the town. Orwell was a sub divisional
European police officer and had a particularly difficult time in Moulmein. Orwell
explains one particular Burman tripped him at a sporting event, ignored, as the
Burman tripped him, by the referee, and laughed at by the crowd. The Burmans
antagonized Orwell, and would always find a time to insult him when the time was
right and a safe distance between the two. Orwell mentioned Buddhist priests, as
thousands of them inhabited the town without much to do, were the worst of his
aggressors, and would mockingly taunt Europeans.
The Burmese abhorred Orwell, and would antagonize him when possible. Orwell,
however, felt different feelings towards the Burmese people. He had secretly been for
the Burmese cause, and against their aggressor ― the British. His job as a sub
divisional police officer gave Orwell further insight into the dirty work of the British
Empire, and caused him to strongly dislike his occupation. The British huddled the
oppressed, naked, abused prisoners and long term convicts into stinking, dank jails
and struck them into submission with bamboo. This
The Human Resources Department Of An Organization Or...
1.Please briefly explain why you chose to interview this person:
I ended up interviewing Jennifer Noonan who works in the Human Resources
Student Employment Department in University Housing. I choose to interview her
because I work in housing and I was able to get in contact with her fairly easily. I
also hope to work in the field of Management and Human resources, so I wanted to
interview someone in that field to get a sense of what the career entails.
2.What are at least four things you learned from your informational interview about
your contact s career path/job responsibilities, employer, and/or industry?
Jennifer explained to me the basic role of the human resources department of an
organization or corporation. I learned that it s one of the most important aspects of
a business, because they are the ones who make sure all of the other departments
are running as efficient as possible. Helping with the hiring process of new
employees is something I didn t know HR is a part of, and they help hiring
managers find the best possible candidates and make sure everything is in place for
their future employment. Jennifer also informed me that the role of HR is
constantly changing, and the old stereotypes of HR being the sticklers or the mean
people is slowly changing. Human resources job is to follow and enforce the rules of
the government and corporation, and that s why they were always portrayed
negatively.

New Grub Street
New Grub Street
New Grub Street is known as
George Robert Gissing s best and most respected novel. This masterpiece gives its
readers a taste of the anti idealistic principle that is shown all throughout Grub
Street. This society that Gissing has mirrored from his own life experience is one that
revolves around selfishness and money.
The reader is supposed to understand that the art of literature cannot exist without
good economic means.
The term Grub Street continues to be used in reference to authors and journalists who
are compelled to struggle desperately to make a bare livelihood, and also to those
who have no scruples about what they write so long as it brings them profit or
popularity (Ward 32).
The novel s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New Grub Street was published in the same year that Gissing married Edith
Underwood. This was his second unhappy marriage to an alcoholic shrew. Edith
was unhappy because she believed her husband to be a failure. The character of
Amy Reardon in New Grub Street also thought her husband to be a failure due to his
poverty and small literary success. Therefore, Gissing s personal life had a huge
impact on his writing.
Several reviews were found on this novel that were not optimistic. Jacob Korg did
one such review. The reader is aware of the author at his shoulder, pointing to one
detail after another as illustrations of an implicit lesson (Dimauro 131). Korg is
saying that Gissing intrudes being an all knowing omniscient narrator. The author s
overwhelming presence is found in the tone, vocabulary, and passages of comment.
Gissing s personal opinions are forced upon the reader in his characters thoughts and
actions. The intrusions could be irritating to the reader who would like to skip over
the seemingly pointless descriptions and historical backgrounds. P.J. Keating did
another review that was not favorable.
He was a morbidly autobiographical novelist and this has, perhaps, prevented his
best work from receiving the critical attention it deserves. Sometimes, as in the
portrait of Reardon, Gissing becomes too personally involved and this is a flaw
which needs to be recognized (Michaux
What Is The Main Examples Of Doublethink
Orwell describes in his novel that the doublethink is having two contradictory ideas
at the same time and accepting them both without having trouble with this. People in
the novel has to adapt to doublethink in order to not do thoughtcrimes because the
Party changes the history all the time and as a citizen of Oseania one should believe
that the situation today has always been this way although you can remember for
example from last monday that Oseania was at war with another continent than the
present time. Doublethink requires the changing of the past and the changing of the
past is made possible by the use and adaptation of doublethinking. A good example
is a newspeak word black and white. If you use the word to describe the opponent of

It means that a person has thoughts that do not fit to the concepts and rules of the
ruling party. Mostly these unspoken beliefs are against the ruling party, or for
example secretly doubting or hating the BigBrother. Illegal is everything that can
make person an individual. The party is founded on collectivism and the same time

thought police is a secret service of Oseania and they are the ones to seek and punish
people who have committed a thought crime. The psycholigical methods of the ruling
party are in a big part in the novel. Thoughtcrime makes me think of the modern fact
that at least US government is survailling internet search engines (and perhaps other
channels too) for words relating to terrorism. If you might be a terrorist, the
government has certain rights to violate your privacy and freedom through the Patriot

The Legal Field At Point Park University
Yogi Berra believed that, Baseball is 90 percent mental and the other half is
physical. From my tenure as a college softball pitcher at Point Park University, I
learned how imperative being mentally sound is to the game of softball. The legal
field is a very demanding field. I know my experiences gained on the diamond will
allow me to flourish in a field dependent upon mental toughness. Foremost, being a
pitchermade me realize how important it is to have a short term memory. When I
was on the mound, I knew that the result of the previous batter had no bearing on
what the next batter would do. For example, when I gave up a big hit, before the
next batter came to the plate, I had to forget about what just happened. In softball,
it is important to not dwell on the negatives, but learn from them. Because of
pitching, I know yesterday s failures can turn into tomorrow s successes. I plan to
have the same attitude in the legal field when obstacles come my way. In addition,
pitching has taught me that there are some things in life that I will never be able to
control. Success on the mound is dependent on a variety of factors. Umpires, field
conditions, the weather, and plays my team made all had an impact on the on the
outcome of a game. When it was raining, I understood that I had no control over the
weather. However, I could make small adjustments to my routine to preform better in
unfavorable conditions. In a similar manner, when an umpire made a call I did not
agree
Beach Room Analysis
When designing a coastal inspired bedroom for a client, I typically begin with a
palette of both color and texture that is truly reflective of the coastal feel and the
client. Here in Southern California, the coastal areas are rich and varied, with
colors like blue, green, creme, grey and even yellow and orange, as well as
textures like sand, sea grass, reeds and driftwood. Coastal interiors are hands down
my favorite interiors to design as there is such a wide variety of elements, colors and
textures available to re imagine and infuse into the home and I do prefer to use the
power of suggestion when designing a coastal home, rather than a literal or kitschy
interpretation.
Coastal inspired spaces are light and airy and evoke an effortless, ... Show more

Any room that is lighter is also generally perceived as being more open, spacious and,
generally, happy! If considering use of some of the darker coastal colors, like grey
or green, keep them as accent colors or use in just one area to reduce the impact on
the light, flowing feeling typical in a coastal inspired room.
When considering wall color, use a tone of soft white or a light tone of an actual
color. White will help move light around the room, whether it s from a natural
source like a window, or from a light fixture. A light tone of a color will provide a
similar effect. If you want to make the room darker, this can always be
accomplished through drapery, however I have found it best to have the option to go
from light to dark through the simple pull on a drapery panel.
Using stripes is another way to keep the eye moving and infuse a space with a
familiar coastal design element. Using stripes on the walls or drapery will help
make any space look larger by drawing the eye up and into the space, also
contributing to the open, spacious feeling.
Keeping these tips in mind will not only help you begin designing a coastal inspired
bedroom, it will help you create a retreat you can enjoy for many years to
A Comparison Of The Fast And The Furious
Although Hollywood is not a stranger to a movie being used as a stencil or a
cookie cutter to generate other. If the plot was dissected of the award winning
movie, The Fast and the Furious, one could see an exact story line to another award
winning cult classic, Point Break. With the 10 years in between the production of
both movies, it has become very easy for some and especially the newest generation
of movie watcher to completely miss the shocking similarities and brilliance of these
two movies. The unforgettable excellence of these two classics is unmistakable, but
The Fast and the Furious walks away with victory thanks to their modifications of the
plot, the fantastic cast, and exceptional stuntscenes. Although both movies are great
in their own way, The Fast and the Furious took the similar plot, built a franchise,
and ran with it for the last 16 years.
Both plots are very similar, but with very minor modifications. The Fast and the
Furious is dubbed the Point Break with cars (Roe). The plot begins with a young
struggling FBI agent or police officer trying to catch his first big break. Then,
throw in a gang of troubled misfits with a strong leader. The young agent must
infiltrate the gang to find out who may be behind a series of robberies, but without
blowing his cover. During this time, the agent befriends the leaders of the gang, but
in doing so he also falls for a woman, who is also affiliated with the gang. He begins
to believe a rival gang is responsible for
Comparison Between Ferdy And Captain Shakespeare
The negotiation that occurred between Ferdy and Captain Shakespeare did not end
in Ferdy s favor. Throughout its entirety, Captain Shakespeare had complete
control of its direction and ended the negotiation with his proposal of 200 for the
lightning bolts. The majority of messages were conveyed through body language;
throughout the negotiation Captain Shakespeare s body language expressed
authority, commitment to his asking price, and a tone of voice that was more
aggressive than Ferdy. Ferdy s downfall was his approach, from beginning to end
he tried to bargain a price. Bargaining is one of the easiest and most popular
methods, but can be costly when using it too soon and at the wrong time
(Mindtools, 2016). Another factor in his demise was his lack of confidence. He did
not remain steadfast the way Captain Shakespeare did, whose proposals slowly
increased, giving light to Ferdy s devoted interest in the... Show more content on

His slow increase gave Captain Shakespeare the advantage of knowing he could
continue to influence Ferdy s asking price as long as his remained steadfast on his
counter offer. Another area Ferdy should improve on is his poker face . During
the negotiation he exuded a high level of emotional attachment to the product.
When Captain Shakespeare told his crew to pack up the product because he was
not satisfied with Ferdy s price, Ferdy increased his bid in order to keep him from
leaving. Captain Shakespeare s simple act of saying no reflects what Myler (2015)
describes as crystallizing a negotiation . The power behind turning down an offer
will cause the opposing party to sit up and take notice of the fact that you speak the
truth and are not willing to say yes just to keep the talks going (Myler, 2015). At this
point, Captain Shakespeare was able to capitalize on the fact that Ferdy desperately

transportation and that there was some problem with her SNAP benefits that
month. She was in poor health and had specific dietary needs. Her friend, that
normally would help, was not able to take her to a local pantry. She wanted to know
if we would be able to bring just a little foodto tie her over until someone could take
her somewhere for food. Imagine the feeling of insecurity that this woman must have

such a call that made the mapping project GMFB conducted so necessary.

as a household level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to
adequate food. While it may be the assumption that larger areas of food insecurity are
in the more densely populated areas, you can see that in areas of Lumpkin County
this not the case. In Union County it appears that food insecurity is not nearly as
prevalent. A deeper look will show that considering more factors is necessary when
determining need. Some of the counties GMFB services have large rural areas where
transportation can be a barrier as well as limited access to food sources near them.
Figure 1 below also indicates the locations of the agencies GMFB supports and gives

Dawson County appears at first glance as a county with a large area of moderately
high level of food insecurity in the northwestern part of the county and a smaller area
with a low level of food insecurity in the southeastern part of the county.
Notwithstanding, this is a very rural county where schools and social services are all
located in a central location. Limited transportation is a barrier for this county.
Limited access to transportation can in include no or limited access to public
transportation and/or no access to reliable transportation. Dawson County has limited

After conquering a city there are a limited amount of way to keep a principality
that is acusstime to living under its own laws. You can decide to destroy it, reside

tribute from it. According to Machiavelli in chapter 5, while all these ways may
sound appealing to the ears, when using the eyes you quickly see that the only
sure way is to destroy it. He proceeds to say how when the Romans conquered
Capua, Carthage, and Numantia they had to dismantle them of all former culture,
laws, and important figures in society in order to gain full control of the three city
states. While some may cringe at the word destruction, others like Machiavelli
found it hopeful. With the destruction and dismantle of a city state the newly found
Lord is allowing for a new book to be written. He can revoke all restrictions that had
previously existed and use his. Machiavelli finds this important because if one were
not to do this the citizens could form together and rebel in the name of freedom,
which once tasted is not easily forgotten. They would continue to use their own laws,
culture and religion clashing with their new lords, which would then lead to an
uprising to bring about a new Lord that had originated from their own

Gay And Lesbian, Gay, And Homosexual Marriages
Recent estimates suggest that between 2.0 and 3.7 million children are being
raised by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adults in the United States,
according to the 2013 National Health Interview Survey and Gallup Poll data
(Gates, 2014). The battle of equal right in many aspects for gay and lesbian
couples have been going on for years, and although significant progress has been
made, there are many aspects within their relationships that are not yet equal to
heterosexual couples in similar situations. Gay and lesbian couples have to deal
with daily discrimination within issues such as marriage, legal issues, medical
issues, and mamy forms for homophobia. Adoption has been a big question and
fight for gay and lesbian couples for many years, one that is still being found
today. Questions of whether or not a gay or lesbian couple can properly raise a
healthy child, if the child s psychological development would be compromised, any
many other arguments have been proposed in disapproval of adoption for these
couples. Adoption is a tedious process for a heterosexual married couple and the
challenges and hoops needed to be jumped through to finalize the process can be
even more difficult for homosexual couples and single gay or lesbian individuals.
Gay and lesbian couples have faced many challenges through the course of time,
and adoption is just another part of that challenge. Just as it is legal for men and
women of the same sex to marry, so is adopting a child. However, there is great
prejudice over the issue and the power of opinion often stunts, and sometimes
terminates, the couples process and success of being able to adopt a child of their
own all because of the judges, biological parents, or spectators personal opinions. In
2004 the American Psychological Association declared the no difference theory that
states, no scientific evidence that parenting effectiveness is related to parental sexual
orientation: lesbian and gay parents are as likely as heterosexual parents to provide
supportive and healthy environments for their children, . Certain studies show a
difference in childhood development between children of same sex marriage and
biological parents, but none that deem gay or
Presocratic Milesian Research Paper
The three presocratic Milesian thinkers certainly stood out from other early
philosophers at the time. Their practice of material monism was a unique way to look
at the world, and some say that it was the first time that individuals tried to unify the
world. While the earlier Milesians namely Thales and Anaximander had developed
their own theories as to explaining what stuff makes up everything, Anaximenes had
done more to supplement and establish his theory. While the term scientist was first
coined by William Whewell in 1833, over two thousand years after Anaximenes and
the other Milesians lived, science had existed long before that (plato.stanford.edu).
Even though Anaximenes lack of true experimentation and the belief that his subjects

His viewpoint opposed those of Thales and Anaximander, but was more developed;
Thales believed that water was the answer, while Anaximander simply decided that
the answer was indefinite. Anaximenes integrated the processes of rarefaction and
condensation into his theory air could turn into fire through rarefaction, while it could
be turned into water and then into earth by condensation. While he had thought all of
this out extensively, he failed to prove this; Anaximenes never experimented.
Experimentation is a crucial part of the scientific method and, while the method wasn
t established in presocratic society, a true scientific theory or law cannot be created
without it. Additionally, Anaximenes believed that air was a deity. Abstract concepts
in this case, divine principles almost immediately invalidated his beliefs. Divinity has

Dynamic Characters In The Call Of The Wild
When reading a novel, there are going to be characters that are either static or
dynamic. Static characters stay the same throughout the entire book like brustle
sprouts stay on a plate in a room full of children. Dynamic characters are the exact
opposite; they are always changing in unique ways that are sometimes better or at
other times worse than earlier in the story. In The Call of the Wild, by Jack London,
the main characterBuck is without a doubt, a dynamic character. As the story
progresses, he is constantly evolving into a new dog.
Before Buck began to transform, he lived at Judge Millers house. Here he was the

meet with another club. Many differences occurred in Buck: he was dependent and
independent, learned at an incredible speed, got bigger and stronger, adapted to the
environment, and became aware of more. How can he be both dependent and
independent? Well, Buck depended on Francois and Perrault for food and
necessities; but was extremely independent due to the fact that he had to teach
himself when he did something wrong since all he got was a bite to the hind
quarters to shape up. Most scenarios it was vital that Buck learned quickly if he
didn t want to be hit. Luckily, Buck was good at it, whenever he made a mistake he
worked incredibly hard to make it better and almost never had to be told twice
about what to do. Obviously Buck had to have gotten huge and fast considering he
was pulling a sled pretty much nonstop except at night. Adapting took a bit longer.
Because of the harsh environmental grounds, he had to wear boots since his paws
were soft and couldn t take it in until they were padded enough after the boots were
so worn down. Not only did he change in his physical being and character traits, but
also when it came to his mental understanding. Buck gained awareness and street
smarts. So, his five senses kicked in and he became almost like a super dog and could
always tell if something bad or good was going to
Identify And Explain The Difference Between Tenor...
The tenor saxophone is a challenge to put together when it is first picked up but,
after the first time it is easy to do, but there are a few things to know.
Resources are: an actual tenor saxophone, cork grease (if necessary), the neck to the
saxophone, the mouthpiece of the sax, the ligature used to hold the reed on the
mouthpiece, a reed, and a neck strap.
Open case short side up and grab a reed to put in your mouth to moisten it while you
are putting the saxophone together (only need to put the thin part in your mouth).
Remove the neck of the saxophone from the case, and use cork grease on the whole
cork if necessary. Grab the neck strap and put it around your neck make sure the hook
is hanging at the front..

Interview
An Interview with Rosalie DaRosa President of Northeast Knitting Inc.
By: Elizabeth DaRosa
Why did you decide to take over the company?
I had a lot of confidence in myself and my overall knowledge of how to manage a
manufacturing plant. I knew a considerable amount about the machines, the
employees, the customers, and the suppliers. I saw it as the opportunity to build a
future for myself and my children.
Since this is a family owned business, do your children want to carry on with the
business?
Yes I have 3 sons and they have all joined me at the plant, they have all earned
bachelor degrees in Business and they are helping to grow the business considerably.
They have the goal to not only continue the business but expand it as much ... Show

Treat your employees as if they were family. Do not expect to be respected unless
you ve earn it. Be a model to your employees.
Mrs. DaRosa is a prime example of how hard work and motivation does pay off. This
small business, even though it is manufacturing which is a dying business in
America, has thrived. Her answers were basically what I expected from a small
business manager that has both ambition and drive. NEK Inc. is a manufacturing
company that makes elastic products for a range of industries such as; military
armor, home furnishings, medical use, and even underwear. Rosalie DaRosa was
born in Cape Verde and worked in Italy as a teenager before immigrating to the
U.S. in 1969. Her father was already working at International Stretch (former name
of NEK) in Pawtucket. Like many others, in manufacturing in the 1980 s, the
company fell on hard times; it closed in 1986. With the purchase of old machines,
Rosalie began the creation of North East Knitting. As she stated to me nothing
comes easy especially in this business, and knowing that she is responsible for over
100 employees is a daunting task that she does not take lightly. Mrs. DaRosa shows
us that everything we learned in class about the challenges of a small business is
correct but also if you take those examples given to us on how to further a small
business; those same principles apply to her as
Essay on The History and Hardships of the Jewish People
Since the beginning of the Judaism, the Jewish people have been subject to
hardships and discrimination. They have not been allowed to have a stabile place of
worship and have also faced persecution and atrocities that most of us can not even
imagine. Three events that have had a big impact on the Jewish faith were the
building and destruction of the First Great Temple, the Second Great Temple and the
events of the Holocaust. In this paper, I will discuss these three events and also
explain and give examples as to why I feel that the Jewish people have always been
discriminated against and not allowed the freedom of worship. King David secured
the beginnings of a prosperous Israelite empire; he made Jerusalem its capital and

After enduring the seizing of their Kingdom and the burning of their Temple and
homes, most of the Israelites were exiled from their homes. Consequently, it would
take them fifty years to return to their first real home of worship.
After their exile, around fifty thousand Jews returned to Jerusalem which was now
called Judaea. The leader of Judea, the Persian King Cyrus, allowed the Jews to
return and to build another place of worship (Fisher 251). The second temple was
built in 515 BCE and according to the text Living Religions, became the central
symbol to a scattered Jewish nation (Fisher). The temple became a place where the
Torah was formed and where the religion prospered. However, Jewish prosperity
was not going to last. After four centuries of Roman rule, that was domineering and
dreadful, a group of Jews decided to rebel against their oppressors. This led to Jews
being slaughtered by the Romans and to the second Temple being destroyed. All
that is left of the Temple are foundation stones which are referred to as the Western
Wall. The temple has never been rebuilt and the Western Wall has become a place
for prayer and remembrance for Jews all over the world. Jewish people look at the
Western Wall as a representation of the hardships and oppression that their religion
and people have endured. According to the article, Mystical Secret of the Western
Wall:
During the 2,000 years of the Jewish exile and dispersion from Israel, many wars have

Developing Students Social Skills To Improve Peer Writing...
The article Thank You for Sharing: Developing Students Social Skills to Improve
Peer Writing Conferences by Keri Franklin describes Franklin s experience during
a training session with a cooperative learning expert. During the article, Franklin
explained how she realized that her workshop sessions were not going as well as
she thought they were going and how she wanted to improve her sessions. It was
only within reading the first few sentences that I realized that this was a great
article for me to read while I lead this workshop for this semester. Unfortunately, not
unlike Franklin, my workshop had not been going well. I needed to help students
identify appropriate behaviors used in everyday social skills and used in effective
peer conferences (Franklin 79). This quote spoke to me as I thought of my
workshop and how it has gone so far. As well as having two students in my
workshop that are from another country and English is their second language, I also
had students who did not grasp the basic concept of writing and using the English
language in its proper form. This article helped me realize that I have a lot... Show

understand how I can communicate with my students on a level that they are

with knowing how to reach out to my students. I feel that this article helped me
find some great tips on how to have a conversation and gain the trust of my
students. As for the language barrier and the lack of proper writing knowledge that I
may face in my workshop, I am aware that it will be difficult, but I believe, with the
help of this article, I can succeed in helping these students become successful
The Successes and Failures of the Zapatista Movement
Essay
The Successes and Failures of the Zapatista Movement
On January 1, 2004, over one thousand people in the mountain hamlet of Oventic,
Chiapas, celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Zapatista Army of National
Liberation (EZLN) rebellion with song and dance. Thus, it seems a fitting time to
take stock of the successes and failures of the Zapatista movement in the context of its
original goals. While the EZLN has been able to establish thirty eight autonomous
indigenous communities in Chiapas, it has failed to weaken the Mexican government
s commitment to neo liberal economic policies. In the following pages, we will
explore those factors which enabled the Zapatistas to establish regions of autonomy

refusal to take money from the mal gobierno (bad government).? In addition, the
Zapatistas have created five organizational centers (caracoles) and established Juntas
of Good Government in each of them in order to ?resolve conflicts and disequilibrium
between the centers and the outlying autonomies.? The caracoles mark the EZLN?s
first success with regional, as opposed to municipal, autonomy. These Zapatista
achievements can be attributed to the local terrain of Chiapas, restrictive legislation,
and local and national scrutiny.
The Mexican government has faced legal and practical restraints on launching an
all out war on the Zapatistas. The first government counter attacks encountered
tactical difficulties in the jungles of Chiapas and the army failed to score a quick
military victory. In 1995, the federal congress passed a ?law for dialogue,? which
foreclosed the option of a unilateral show of force by the Mexican army in areas
under Zapatista control. This legislation catalyzed the signing of the San AndrГ©s
Accords by the EZLN and the Zedillo government. The San AndrГ©s Accords, as
well as the inaccessibility of the jungles of Chiapas, made overt military action
politically and tactically unviable. The EZLN?s national popularity and visibility also
guaranteed its survival. Though the Mexican government maintained a
Main Cause Of Childhood Obesity
Childhood Obesity Childhood obesity is a disorder where a child is considerably
overweight for his or her age and height. It has become more and more common in
recent years with more than 3 million cases in the United States a year. It can also
lead to a lot of childhood health problems some of which are diabetes, high blood
pressure, and high cholesterol. Understanding the causes of childhoodobesity will
help to get it under control and lower the number of cases per year instead of adding
to it. Three major causes of childhood obesity are poor parenting when it comes to
food, kids spending too much time indoor and not getting enough exercise, and
schools making junk food readily available to children. The first main cause of
childhood obesity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools are filled with vending machines stocked with junk food and soda. A lot of
parents make a conscious effort to get their kids to eat healthier and exercise, but
parents can t be with their kids at school where they are free to choose less healthy
alternatives. Public schools must take a big share of responsibility for the current
epidemic of childhood obesity (Schlafly). Along with vending machines filled with
less than healthy snacks, the lunches that are provided through the school are less
than nutritious. They serve a vegetable with the main lunch course, but most of the
time kids can opt out of getting it. What s the point of serving a vegetable when the
kids refuse to get it on their trays? Why not just make more nutritious lunches that
taste good? They are also cutting down on physical activity and sports. For some
kids the only exercise they get is through recess at school or through playing on the
school sports team. Play time is a very important part of learning, it s how kids
learn to work together, sharing, and teamwork. It also gives kids much needed
exercise. Schools are more concerned with standardized test scores than children
getting the exercise they need. Cutting recess short or taking it out of the
curriculum altogether in favor of more class time or more standardized tests is
doing the children of today a great disservice. Childhood obesity is a serious
problem that effects the youth of today. Improving the entire family s diet and
exercise habits is one of the best ways to achieve a healthy weight in the child. We
need to teach our kids better eating habits, get them playing outside and get them
active, and parents need to get more involved with the vending machines they are
putting in schools and the food their children are being served; or these unhealthy
habits will continue into
Thermodynamic Optimization of Flow Over an Isothermal...
Boundary layers are thin regions next to the wall in the flow where viscous forces
are important. The above mentioned wall can be in various geometrical shapes.
Blasius [1] studied the simplest boundary layer over a flat plate. He employed a
similarity transformation which reduces the partial differential boundary layer
equations to a nonlinear third order ordinary differential one before solving it
analytically. The boundary layer flow over a moving plate in a viscous fluid has
been considered by Klemp and Acrivos [2], Hussaini et al. [3], Fang and Zhang [4]

Analysis Of Wrestling Words By Barry Yeoman
Barry Yeoman in Wrestling Words , expresses the struggles of how stuttering becomes
a setback in life. Stuttering may seem like an easy disability to overcome, but for
those who struggle know the true devastating pain. Not being able to fit the cookie
cutter perfect imagine of society not just physically, but also emotionally impacts
stutters. Stutteringseems incurable, but organizations like the National Stuttering
Project believe an end is reachable. Stuttering is not a life threatening disease, but a
setback to thrive on. Stuttering is a disability that affects over two million of the
adult population and can be obtained through genetics. This disability is not just
getting stuck on certain words or saying like a few times in a sentence. The
disability involves tripping on sounds and in severe cases not being able to
verbalize what needs to be said. Yeomen uses an example of a man who could not
find the words to ask the women he truly was in love with to marry him and ended
up marrying the wrong women. Stuttering can change the lives of so many because
they never learn to overcome that tragedy. Just imagine the emotional impact of not
being able to verbalize true feelings. This disability shows signs of being linked to
depression. Yeomen mentions how a classical subrian wife, Sally Butcher, would go
throughout her daily life with a smile on her face and then at night dream of how
stuttering made her want to kill herself. People who stutter feel that no one really
The Possibility Of A Winter Storm In Klamath County
Winter storms are destructive and dangerous weather events which may include
snow, freezing rain, ice, high winds, and/or temperatures that drop below normal.
They have potential to cause damage, serious social disruption, or loss of human
life. The major problems that winter storms cause are power outages and traffic
accidents. There is a very high probability that Klamath County will be negatively
affected by at least one winter stormcondition on an annual basis.
Dust storms occur most frequently in arid regions of Central and Eastern Oregon.
With wind speeds of at least 25 miles per hour, dust storms can spread over hundreds
of miles and rise over 10,000 feet.
Airborne dust particles, or dust aerosols, alter the climate by intercepting
A Short Note On A Functional Laryngeal Disorder
Case Study #1
A functional laryngeal disorder is one that does not have a known physical cause.
Functional laryngeal disorders are recognized as the misuse of the laryngeal
apparatus or the larynx being used in an abusive manner. One type of a functional
laryngeal disorder is a vocal fold polyp. A vocal fold polyp is a singular occurrence
on one vocal cord or both. A polyp is a growth which resembles a blister like bump.
In addition, a hemorrhage is a blood vessel that ruptures which causes a collection
of blood within the layers of the vocal cord, this can be seen as a bruise on the vocal
cord. Adele has suffered from a vocal fold polyp with hemorrhage.
There is no known specific cause for the development of polyps, but there are
several risk factors. The two most common factors that contribute to a polyp s
formation are vocal abuse and misuse; they can also form from one simple traumatic
event. Polyps can develop from allergies, singing, yelling, chronic coughing, talking
loudly, inhaling irritating substances, and long term smoking or drinking. For
example, the vocal folds vibrate at an immense rate where they then come in
contact with each other causing stress on the vocal folds. Speaking, yelling or
singing for a prolonged period can cause them to swell. If you do not rest and
continue to use your voice the swelling can turn into a polyp, this is an example of
vocal abuse. Vocal fold polyps are known to be benign meaning they are noncancerous
and noncontagious. In
Why Should Marching Band Be Considered A Sport
Kaiyah Wilhite
Argumentative Essay
Should marching band be considered a sport? Yes, it should. Being a member for
one year, and having completed the season, I speak from experience. There are so
many things to learn in the season, like body movements and music. We also had to
learn all eighty four sets, which is where to go while we are marching. Having to
learn all of this takes hard work, time, and a lot of money. This is why band should
be considered a sport.
The definition of sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical activity and
often of a competitive nature. Marching band includes all of the above. The student
playing must have skill to play, move, and memorize all at the same time. There are
physical activities such as jazz running, body movements, and marching in general.
Some students say this is the most competitive team they have ever been a part of.
That is another thing about being a sport, students are a team pulled together as one.

We practice for countless hours in a season. Some marching bands practice up to
300 hours per season! Basketball, soccer, tennis, all of these most people would
consider sports. These sports practice no where near the span of time marching band
pupils do.
One of the reasons band should count as a sport is because of the sweat. I am not
talking about how much students sweat in basketball or tennis. I am talking
specifically about band sweat. This means sweat dripping off your chin, clothes
soaked to the point where you could ring out the sweat and reuse it. Yes, it becomes
that bad. Sweat means physical activity, and anything to do with physical activity is a
Gun Control Should Not Be Controlled As It Reduces
Sense...
Introduction
Gun control can be defined as the entire laws that legalize the invention of firearms
in a certain state. In other words, it is the regulation of distribution of firearms in a
country. For a couple of years, government has struggled to reduce the rate at
which firearms are used in a country. This has helped to reduce various crimes that
were carried out by people who were said to own guns. Research shows that about
90% of deaths originate from use of firearms. For this reason, it is crucial to
eradicate use of firearms by people. Although, they are some benefits of legalizing
use of firearms, people have argued that use of guns should not be controlled as it
reduces sense of self defense. This essay will clearly address various advantages and
disadvantages of gun control.
Advantages of gun control
According to various researches that were conducted by healthcare professional,
large numbers of deaths are often carried out by the use of firearms. For this
reason, it is crucial to control the entire distribution of firearms all over the globe to
reduce the rate at which these deaths are occurring. In relation to this, restriction of
gun ownership would highly help in reducing various crimes that are said to be
carried out by people owning guns. Suicides rate would also decrease because gun
availability would be controlled. This is because it is much easier to commit suicide
when a firearm is available.
Nations without these laws permit kids as youthful as
The Parables And The Crucifixion
The Parables and the Crucifixion The Parables in the Bible tell a story, they are
told in a simple way, which attracts the hearers attention. A parable refers to an
implied comparison. Jesus proclaims the Kingdom of God by making comparisons
of the daily life of the people of His time. Jesus used parables during His public
ministry. He gives them a sign and foretaste of what is and will be the Kingdom of
Heaven, as explained, apart from the parables narrated in the Gospels. All acts
performed by Jesusduring His public life have a vision or a parabolic sense because
they try to uncover this hidden kingdom among the people. Jesus speaks of the
Kingdom of God with wisdom and simplicity, and uses parables in which, without
hiding He is saying new things. At the same time, with a different vision, Jesus
invites listeners to be attracted and feel excited about this kingdom. All parables
have a significant meaning for all Christians. Therefore, parables make hearers
analyze and think, and it is for this reasons that at the end of these parables he
always warns: Whoever has ears ought to hear. With that being told, Jesus is saying
that only those with an open heart to conversion and a soul willing to reject sin will
understand and will be able to assimilate these short stories. All these parables seek
to illustrate the reality and the attitude of the people of Israel, whom Jesus spoke to
at that time. They partly reflect the love and sacrifice of God for humanity, and this is

Balance Requires Meat Analysis
Of the articles I read, the one that I found most convincing was We Require Balance.
Balance Requires Meat by Stacey Roussel. Roussel s perspective comes from the
perspective of a farmer. The reason being that I found Roussel s argument to be the
most convincing is because she explained why animals are important and was
reasonable in regards to both perspectives, vegan and non vegan. She openly admits
that society cannot function without animals, and therefore a balance needs to be
made between farmers and their land and the number of animals that are eaten.
Animals are not just used for meaat, but also fertilization for growing vegetables.
Roussel states that the animals and farmer cannot survive without each other. I really

Bush, as well as our society, feels the president should be strong especially in international politics and policies. When the United States was attacked September 11, 2001, the people looked to the president to lead, and in essence, seek revenge. On both of these levels of domestic considerations, we will never know to exactly what extent they influence the president s choice of action, but they help us in understanding some of the foreign policy decisions. Going beyond the individual to the expectations of the position, the role consideration plays an influential domestic part in the response to an external event and ultimately foreign policymaking. Furthermore to do this, Bush s administration has outlined some specific objectives. Allies are crucial to conduct foreign operations, so the Bush has joined several international organizations that allow it to serve at the forefront of international policy. Some of the more famous ones are the United Nations, which is the biggest organization and has many sub level organizations, the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank Group (Directory of Economic, Commodity and Developmental Organizations). Knowing that United States is involved in these international organizations President Bush refuses to listen to UN (United Nation) and

Chronology Of A Rose For Emily By Faulkner In the story A Rose for Emily, the actually chronology of the events that occurred happened in a much different order than the one that Faulkner told them in which allows the reader to get a better insight into the characters and the plot of the story. Faulkner begins telling the story from Emily Grierson s funeral, but quickly switches into a flashback, a move he does often throughout the story, to begin telling the reader about Emily s struggle with taxes and the changing of the administration of the town in which she lived. In this scene, Faulkner gives Emily the impression of her being older in age as she told the townspeople to See Colonel Sartoris when he had been dead almost ten years (2). • 5. Mafalda Charlie Brown Mafalda: The Argentine Charlie Brown? In 1963, Argentine cartoon strip artist JoaquГn Salvador Lavado, better known as Quino, was commissioned to create a Peanuts esk advertisement for a brand of domestic appliances (Kuntz). To familiarize himself with Peanuts, American cartoon by Charles M. Schulz, Quino purchased all of the Peanutsbooks that he could find in Buenos Aires (Kuntz). After studying Schulz s work Quino adapted the general concept for an Argentine audience and Mafalda was born (Kuntz). Unfortunately the world did not meet Mafalda in 1963 through the ad campaign because the magazine that was going to publish the cartoons realized it was closet advertising (qtd in Kuntz). It would take another year before Mafalda made her debut in the Argentine magazine Primera Plana (Cosse). Mafalda went on to run parallel to Peanuts from 1964 to 1973 (Patten; Charles M. Schulz Museum). For the decade that they were both in print how do they compare to each other? Given that Quino originally based Mafalda of Peanuts in what ways are they similar and different? An... The only interactions that the children have with adults in the comic strip show the adults saying mwa mwa mwa mwa (qtd in Molinari). Quino shows Mafalda living in a normal world populated by both adults and children (Foster). The comparison makes Schulzs world seem strange that there are no adults, but only children. With Mafalda we see her parents and her little brother Guille, but the only family we see of Charlie Brown is his little sister Sally (Foster; Charles M. Schulz

In actively managed funds the manager tries to beat the market by selling and buying assets. Passively managed funds consist of a large number of assets and try to by diversification to perform as well as the market. The passively managed funds are much cheaper as they require less work and transactions. This research tries to address the problem from an investor s point of view, which kind of funds are the best ones to invest in? If the active funds would constantly outperform the market the effective market hypothesis should be questioned. At the beginning, we agreed the balance of the accounts receivable detail listing to the trial balance and subsequently to the financial statements to ensure completeness of the population. The international gates of Genoa and Venice experienced the symptoms about a year later. A lot people think the beginnings of the plague moved westward with trade caravans. Genoese and Venetian merchants got infected during a siege of their trading posts at Caffa. They brought the disease with them into the Mediterranean, Constantinople and Europe. Muslim merchants imported plaguefrom Constantinople to Alexandria, Egypt. After that, others spread it to the westward Africa and the Middle East. By 1350, when the Black Death retreated, it had already cut a quarter to half of the region s population. • 9. Analysis Of Goodbye Earl From their Grammy award winning album Fly, Goodbye Earl was a track that led to much controversy. The overall theme of the song concerned domestic violence. By using Kenneth Burke s Pentad, otherwise known as dramatism, one will be able to find the concept of motive from the characters involved and their actions. There are five elements to the pentad: agent, act, scene, agency and purpose. The pentad is necessary when trying to develop an argument, as it can produce several possibilities that can have relation to each other. In Goodbye Earl , the agents would be best friends Wanda and Mary Anne. These are the main characters that are involved in the act of the situation. The act explains what happened or what the exact action was. In this case, Wanda and Mary Anne s act was to kill Mary Anne s husband Earl. The scene is the background situation or the drama that lead up to the act being committed. After high school graduation, Mary Anne gets married to a man named Earl and soon after he began abusing her. She files for divorce and a restraining order, but the legal system does not keep him from harming her and she ends up in intensive care. This would lead to the question of agency, or how the agents act and with what means. After Mary Anne recovers, she flies out to Atlanta to confide in Wanda and they create a plan together to kill Earl by the means of poison. Why do they kill Earl? It is safe to assume that their purpose, the 5th element of the pentad, was

Caillat uses simplicity and a contemporary music style in Try to convey the suffocation women feel because they try to live up to these stereotypes in the 21st century. When Caillat wrote her song, she used repetition of her lyrics to hit home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out. Caillat stated in an interview that When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks amazing, the first thing people comment on is your image . . . when you don t wear makeup, you hear things like, Oh wow, you look tired or you re so brave for not wearing makeup! We see all skin types, various ages, different races, and all the women stand in front of a plain and drab background, putting them at the center of attention. Caillat starts out all dolled up and then proceeds, along with the other women, to take off the makeup, and in some cases hair extensions and a wig, to un Photoshop themselves. A lot of close up shots showed only their faces, and side by side videos of before and after as the women wiped off their makeup with solemn faces, but showed smiling or laughing faces when not wearing makeup. I saw relief in their faces as they accepted themselves, and they showed the world their happiness as it literally shined out of their faces like sunbeams. They stared directly into the camera, challenging it as they sang along with Caillat s words. Although this song carries a strong body positivity message, the imperfections bore proudly by the women in the video are the imperfections deemed appropriate, or more common, to society such as being overweight, having a gap in between teeth, frizzy hair, freckles, and wrinkles. The lighting was perfect and nobody s skin was oily, had any acne, discoloration, or scars. Those imperfections society judges more because it is gross and easy to point out. These women looked beautiful with and without makeup, but without they were liberated and showed their true beauty and who they were. After watching the video all around the world, people understand how society s expectations make women feel

Essay The Berdache of Early American Conquest The Berdache of Early American Conquest Methodological Introduction This paper attempts to link the facet of queer theory that explains gender and sexuality as culturally constructed identities, with the presence of the berdache in the New World at the time of the Spanish conquest. By analyzing the construction of gender and sexuality among the native peoples, in contrast to the ideologies of the Spanish, I found a clash arose which explained, in some sense, the incompatibility of the two cultures. The clash of gender identity existing between these two cultures led to misrepresentations of the natives by the Spaniards. It is also necessary, before diving into the concepts of this paper, that I elucidate the terms which I will be using, as they are easily confused. Gender, in the context of this paper will describe the sets of culturally prescribed behaviors, actions, and functions assigned to a particular sex. Sex, when used as an adjective, will refer to the biological or chromosomal physical identity which separates males from females. Sexuality, like gender, will be used to define individuals on the basis of their cultural /social role within society, but not as an unchangeable feature of a person s identity. It is important to distinguish the meaning of these terms because as they are commonly used, they are usually considered synonyms in some way. By separating and elucidating their meanings, I hope to further press the queer theorist argument that gender and identity within one s sexuality are deeply imbedded in social influences. The Berdache of Early American Conquest The Spanish encountered many things upon treading their first steps onto the soil of a new and mysterious continent. The natives were a group so foreign, the Spaniards questioned whether they were even human. This experience of contact, then conquest and colonization introduced

Jones argues against other people s views that violent media will have a negative influence on children. Gerald Jones had many strengths in his article which helped support his argument and could possible make his argument effective. His strengths were mainly the use of emotional appeal like story telling and personal experiences to help convince his audience. While Jones s essay started off strong, he only gave a few weaknesses like the lack of examples and how he only used one reference, his life, to justify his point of view which in the end did not help persuade the audience. In the era of Walt Disney, the prince saved the princess, as seen in Sleeping Beauty. The prince possessed masculine or hypermasculine characteristics strong, muscular, broad, tall, ambitious and hard. However, in later Disney the male characters began to soften, as seen in Hercules. In Masculinityas Social Semiotic Identity Politics and Genderin Disney Animated Films, Robyn McCallum discussed how the male protagonist in films such as Mulan, Hercules and Tarzan transformed into a new man, a man that possessed stereotypical female traits (McCalllum, 2002). However, it can be argued that although the new man has mentally changed they have physically stayed the same since Sleeping Beauty. In classic Disney, the prince rescued the distressed princess. The prince could be classified as hypermasculine, strong, muscular, hard, tall and broad. Although he does play a large role in Disney films, often the deuteragonist, his name is not commonly used. Orwell details how nearly every citizen in Moulmein had a grudge against Europeans, and would, as a result, antagonize any European in the town. Orwell was a sub divisional European police officer and had a particularly difficult time in Moulmein. Orwell explains one particular Burman tripped him at a sporting event, ignored, as the Burman tripped him, by the referee, and laughed at by the crowd. The Burmans antagonized Orwell, and would always find a time to insult him when the time was right and a safe distance between the two. Orwell mentioned Buddhist priests, as thousands of them inhabited the town without much to do, were the worst of his aggressors, and would mockingly taunt Europeans. The Burmese abhorred Orwell, and would antagonize him when possible. Orwell, however, felt different feelings towards the Burmese people. He had secretly been for the Burmese cause, and against their aggressor ― the British. His job as a sub divisional police officer gave Orwell further insight into the dirty work of the British Empire, and caused him to strongly dislike his occupation. The British huddled the oppressed, naked, abused prisoners and long term convicts into stinking, dank jails and struck them into submission with bamboo. This

The reader is supposed to understand that the art of literature cannot exist without good economic means. Therefore, Gissing s personal life had a huge impact on his writing. Several reviews were found on this novel that were not optimistic. Jacob Korg did one such review. The reader is aware of the author at his shoulder, pointing to one detail after another as illustrations of an implicit lesson (Dimauro 131). I know my experiences gained on the diamond will allow me to flourish in a field dependent upon mental toughness. Foremost, being a pitchermade me realize how important it is to have a short term memory. When I was on the mound, I knew that the result of the previous batter had no bearing on what the next batter would do. After a large profit, Becknell continued to make trips, blazing the path that became known as the Santa Fe Trail. Soon, traders, visitors, and the military would regularly travel the route. Two paths developed on the Sante Fe trail, splitting at Fort Larned, KS after following the same path from Missouri to the Arkansas River,

After conquering a city there are a limited amount of way to keep a principality that is acusstime to living under its own laws. You can decide to destroy it, reside in it, or allow for a form of self government that is friendly to the prince and take tribute from it. According to Machiavelli in chapter 5, while all these ways may sound appealing to the ears, when using the eyes you quickly see that the only sure way is to destroy it. He proceeds to say how when the Romans conquered Capua, Carthage, and Numantia they had to dismantle them of all former culture, laws, and important figures in society in order to gain full control of the three city states. While some may cringe at the word destruction, others like Machiavelli found it hopeful. With the destruction and dismantle of a city state the newly found Lord is allowing for a new book to be written. He can revoke all restrictions that had previously existed and use his. Machiavelli finds this important because if one were not to do this the citizens could form together and rebel in the name of freedom, which once tasted is not easily forgotten. They would continue to use their own laws, culture and religion clashing with their new lords, which would then lead to an uprising to bring about a new Lord that had originated from their own

Gay And Lesbian, Gay, And Homosexual Marriages Recent estimates suggest that between 2.0 and 3.7 million children are being raised by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adults in the United States, according to the 2013 National Health Interview Survey and Gallup Poll data (Gates, 2014). The battle of equal right in many aspects for gay and lesbian couples have been going on for years, and although significant progress has been made, there are many aspects within their relationships that are not yet equal to heterosexual couples in similar situations. Gay and lesbian couples have to deal with daily discrimination within issues such as marriage, legal issues, medical issues, and mamy forms for homophobia. Adoption has been a big question and fight for gay and lesbian couples for many years, one that is still being found today. Questions of whether or not a gay or lesbian couple can properly raise a healthy child, if the child s psychological development would be compromised, any many other arguments have been proposed in disapproval of adoption for these couples. Adoption is a tedious process for a heterosexual married couple and the challenges and hoops needed to be jumped through to finalize the process can be even more difficult for homosexual couples and single gay or lesbian individuals. Gay and lesbian couples have faced many challenges through the course of time, and adoption is just another part of that challenge. Just as it is legal for men and women of the same sex to marry, so is adopting a child. However, there is great prejudice over the issue and the power of opinion often stunts, and sometimes terminates, the couples process and success of being able to adopt a child of their own all because of the judges, biological parents, or spectators personal opinions. Quickly he learned (unlike the train) that he best keep his act together unless he wanted to meet with another club. Many differences occurred in Buck: he was dependent and independent, learned at an incredible speed, got bigger and stronger, adapted to the environment, and became aware of more. How can he be both dependent and independent? Well, Buck depended on Francois and Perrault for food and necessities; but was extremely independent due to the fact that he had to teach himself when he did something wrong since all he got was a bite to the hind quarters to shape up. Most scenarios it was vital that Buck learned quickly if he didn t want to be hit. Obviously Buck had to have gotten huge and fast considering he was pulling a sled pretty much nonstop except at night. Adapting took a bit longer. Because of the harsh environmental grounds, he had to wear boots since his paws were soft and couldn t take it in until they were padded enough after the boots were so worn down. Consequently, it would take them fifty years to return to their first real home of worship. After their exile, around fifty thousand Jews returned to Jerusalem which was now called Judaea. The leader of Judea, the Persian King Cyrus, allowed the Jews to return and to build another place of worship (Fisher 251). The second temple was built in 515 BCE and according to the text Living Religions, became the central symbol to a scattered Jewish nation (Fisher). The temple became a place where the Torah was formed and where the religion prospered. However, Jewish prosperity was not going to last. While the EZLN has been able to establish thirty eight autonomous indigenous communities in Chiapas, it has failed to weaken the Mexican government s commitment to neo liberal economic policies. These Zapatista achievements can be attributed to the local terrain of Chiapas, restrictive legislation, and local and national scrutiny. The Mexican government has faced legal and practical restraints on launching an all out war on the Zapatistas. The first government counter attacks encountered tactical difficulties in the jungles of Chiapas and the army failed to score a quick military victory. Functional laryngeal disorders are recognized as the misuse of the laryngeal apparatus or the larynx being used in an abusive manner. One type of a functional laryngeal disorder is a vocal fold polyp. A vocal fold polyp is a singular occurrence on one vocal cord or both. A polyp is a growth which resembles a blister like bump. In addition, a hemorrhage is a blood vessel that ruptures which causes a collection of blood within the layers of the vocal cord, this can be seen as a bruise on the vocal cord. Adele has suffered from a vocal fold polyp with hemorrhage. There is no known specific cause for the development of polyps, but there are several risk factors. The two most common factors that contribute to a polyp s formation are vocal abuse and misuse; they can also form from one simple traumatic event. Polyps can develop from allergies, singing, yelling, chronic coughing, talking loudly, inhaling irritating substances, and long term smoking or drinking. For example, the vocal folds vibrate at an immense rate where they then come in contact with each other causing stress on the vocal folds. Speaking, yelling or singing for a prolonged period can cause them to swell. If you do not rest and continue to use your voice the swelling can turn into a polyp, this is an example of vocal abuse. Vocal fold polyps are known to be benign meaning they are noncancerous and noncontagious. In

This is why band should be considered a sport. The definition of sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical activity and often of a competitive nature. Marching band includes all of the above. The student playing must have skill to play, move, and memorize all at the same time. A parable refers to an implied comparison. Jesus proclaims the Kingdom of God by making comparisons of the daily life of the people of His time. Jesus used parables during His public ministry. He gives them a sign and foretaste of what is and will be the Kingdom of Heaven, as explained, apart from the parables narrated in the Gospels. All acts performed by Jesusduring His public life have a vision or a parabolic sense because they try to uncover this hidden kingdom among the people. Jesus speaks of the Kingdom of God with wisdom and simplicity, and uses parables in which, without hiding He is saying new things. At the same time, with a different vision, Jesus invites listeners to be attracted and feel excited about this kingdom. All parables have a significant meaning for all Christians. • 56. Balance Requires Meat Analysis Of the articles I read, the one that I found most convincing was We Require Balance. Balance Requires Meat by Stacey Roussel. Roussel s perspective comes from the perspective of a farmer. The reason being that I found Roussel s argument to be the most convincing is because she explained why animals are important and was reasonable in regards to both perspectives, vegan and non vegan. She openly admits that society cannot function without animals, and therefore a balance needs to be made between farmers and their land and the number of animals that are eaten. Animals are not just used for meaat, but also fertilization for growing vegetables. Roussel states that the animals and farmer cannot survive without each other. I really appreciated
