Compare And Contrast Essay On High
School And College
Writing a compare and contrast essay on the topic of high school and college can be both
challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies not only in the need to delve into the intricacies of
two distinct educational phases but also in the nuanced approach required to highlight their
similarities and differences effectively.
To begin with, one must navigate the vast array of experiences and aspects that define high
school and college life. These could range from academic differences, such as the level of
independence in learning and the depth of subject matter, to social aspects, including the nature
of relationships with peers and instructors. The challenge is to strike a balance between providing
a comprehensive overview and avoiding the pitfall of overwhelming the reader with details.
Furthermore, articulating the essence of each educational stage and drawing meaningful
comparisons demand a keen understanding of the underlying dynamics. One must consider the
academic rigor, social environment, extracurricular opportunities, and personal responsibilities
that characterize both high school and college experiences. It requires a careful examination of
the unique challenges and advantages that each phase presents, making sure to present a nuanced
and well-rounded perspective.
Additionally, crafting a well-structured essay requires the ability to seamlessly weave together a
cohesive narrative. The introduction should provide a clear thesis statement that sets the stage for
the comparison, while the body paragraphs should delve into specific aspects with supporting
evidence and examples. Transitioning between contrasting ideas and maintaining a logical flow
is crucial to keeping the reader engaged.
In conclusion, while the task of writing a compare and contrast essay on high school and college
may seem daunting, the process can be intellectually stimulating and rewarding. It encourages
critical thinking and analytical skills, fostering a deeper understanding of the educational
journey. By approaching the topic with diligence and a thoughtful perspective, one can create an
essay that not only meets academic standards but also offers valuable insights into the
transformative nature of transitioning from high school to college.

The Ones Who Walk Away From Omeals Analysis
In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omeals by Ursula K. Le Guin, the people of
Omelas depend on a complex and barbaric happiness. All of what they own, or
have, or even what they are, depend wholly on this child s abominable misery .
Who is this child? He who is locked away in a windowless dirty basement. They all
know that it has to be there but their gilt is less than their personal striving for
happiness. Sometimes it s said that to obtain a victory, someone must have a loss.
Here we see what modern society can have the same selfishness. All of Omelas
happiness is based on discrimination of what is necessary. F they wish to consume
drugs or have endless sex, they can simply do so. The only victory they celebrate is
that of life. Their
Corn Fed vs. Grass Fed Beef Essay
Rashad Mckinney
Make up Essay
Holy cow, I haven t eaten any beef or any red meat in over thirteen years. When I
first saw the topic of this essay to discuss the primary differences between grass fed
and corn fed beef. I had thought to myself hmmm I was thinking all cows had just
ate grass. I always thought cow s were slow food because they ate grass but I
wondered how so much beef was being produced so fast, but then I thought about all
the chicken steroid stories. Cows are ruminants designed by nature to stay healthy
and be totally sustained taking nourishment on grass and only grass. Cows, have
stomachs that are designed to digest grass. But of demand and because cattle

Grass fed beef won t look and doesn t taste exactly the same every time you buy it.
Grass fed beef also has a reputation for being tough and lacking tenderness, but is said
to be more juicier and true beefy flavor. Some studies show there isn t a real clear cut,
consistent taste differences between grass fed and corn fed beef. Corn fed beef has
more fat than grass fed beef so the cook, chef would have more room for error with
some corn fed beef rather than some grass fed because that fat adds flavor that you
can lose if you overcook leaner grass fed beef. But like the organic free range chicken
and regular grocery store chicken we had in contemparary class, being raised on corn
fed beef, the texture and flavor of grass fed beef can taste a bit off and we may think
it doesn t taste how true beef should taste. The styrofoam containers of corn and
grain fed convential beef that are at the Shop and Save s, Schnucks will be more
cheaper than a pack of grass fed beef at Whole foods or any other local markets that
sell grass fed beef. You probably could get grass fed beef for the same price as your
corn beef a Diebergs or other grocery stores if you where to buy directly from a
farmer of livestock.
Traditionally, before man started to produce and make a living off of cow s, all beef
was grass fed beef, but due to the man s
File For Divorce
How to file for divorce under the United States Law.
Divorce in the United States is governed by individual state law rather than the
Federal Law. Also known as dissolution of marriage, it is a legal procedure which
involves termination of a marriage by a judge or other authority. This process restores
the individuals to a single status and allows them to marry other individuals. Other
matters involved in divorce proceedings include; child support and custody, property
distribution, spousal support and division of debt. Below is how you go about in
filing for a divorce under the law of the United States.
What are your grounds for divorce?
For you to start filling a divorce, you will need to be clear on the grounds for your
divorce. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Present your complaint or petition to your court.
You could choose to present it yourself or your attorney in case you decided to hire
one. Depending on the state, a complaint or petition is the main document you are
required to file with the court. It is a formal way of asking the court to officially
end your marriage. If your state uses complaints, the names of the parties will be
defendant and plaintiff, whereas for petitions the party names will be respondent and
petitioner. The petitioner and the plaintiff refers to the person who is filling for the
divorce.
Notify your spouse about the divorce.
A divorce can only be granted if you provide your spouse with a notice informing
them that you have filed for a divorce. You may choose to hand over the divorce
petition or complaint to the other party in person (referred to as personal service)
or choose other service forms depending on what your state allows you to. After
serving them with a petition or complaint, they are given some time to respond to it.
After your spouse responds to it, and it is stamped and given a case number, the
court sets a date for hearing of your
The Importance Of Independence Day
July 4th is not an official date on the NBA calendar but it probably should be.
Independence Day has tended to be a reliable benchmark for when the free agent
fever starts to cool. Usually the players at the top of the free agent power ranking
make their decision within the first few days and then the other pieces of the puzzle
start to fall in to place. But sometimes it s not always those first big names that raise
teams to new championship aspirations. We all know the names that move the
needle. LaMarcus Aldridge, the last big fish on the market to make his decision, and
had suitors holding their collective breath from Portland to Toronto before he finally
signed with the San Antonio Spurs. Kevin Love at least had his commitment to

Davis is not even in Aldridge s stratosphere, but he may soften the blow from his
loss. Davis is a good rebounder, an efficient scorer, and a reliable team defender. I
liken him to a young Zach Randolph. Whether or not he can reach that potential is
very much in the air. But maybe more importantly than if he exceeds expectations
and becomes a good replacement for Aldridge, his addition shows a forward
thinking approach at a time when the Blazers could have operated from a position
of panic and desperation. This track can be frustrating for fans but makes progress
through judicious activity. Stock pile good, young assets. If they develop and
flourish they become part of your future or great trade chips in the future. Look at
the approach Boston has taken. There is no need to tank, the draft picks will fall
where they may and spend the intervening years by amassing talented players on
the rise. Cory Joseph, Toronto Raptors o Contract: 4 year, $30 million Joseph

Catalase Lab
Introduction The effect different temperatures have on the rate that enzymes work
was tested by this lab. The concentration of the enzyme catalase in different tissues
was also tested. It was tested by pouring 5 ml of hydrogen peroxide over liver in
different conditions and over a piece of meat and potato. Enzymes are balls of protein
that change a specific substrate into a product by contact at the active site. Enzymes
are reusable and once they finish tuning one substrate into a product, it moves on to
the next substrate it bumps into in just the right way. The enzymecatalase, which this
lab focuses on, can be found in the tissues of plants and animals. Catalase is very
important because it takes in hydrogen peroxide, which is toxic to... Show more

Catalase is an enzyme and enzymes rely on being able to move around in order to
bump into its substrate. Molecules don t move around as much when it is cold
compared to when it is room temperature, so enzymes are less likely to bump into
their substrates, which explains the small reaction for the cold liver. On the other
end, you can relate the warm and hot liver reactions to having a fever. The warm
liver is like when you just have a low fever, your body is simply trying to make
your enzymes work faster by increasing the temperature which increases that
movement of molecules, likely so you can fight off an infection of some sort. The
hot liver, however, is when the fever starts to get too high and the risk of damaging
brain cells comes into play. Extreme heat is one of the factors that leads to the
denaturation of proteins. When a protein is denatured its structural shape is changed,
and so is its function. This is because structure and function go hand in
Major Social Issues Facing The Us Today
What do you personally think are the major social problems/ issues facing the US
today? Label each problem as personal, social, and or global. The major problems i
think that are facing the US today are mass shooting and violence. This is a huge
social problem because everytime you go on the internet or turn on the tv it s there.
Just yesterday in Chattanooga ,Tennessee there was a mass shooting that Left four
Marines Dead. Almost a month ago in Charleston south carolina A teenager shot
and killed nine people in a church. There are numerous other stories like these that
this year alone. If we can not get this problem under hand we are in serious trouble. I

Bullying is increasing among students in schools nationwide. And the majority of

kill the person causing the problem. Not to say that video game violence is
responsible for the killings. But this victims are looking for a way to get revenge
the best way they know. Another factor is racism like in the charleston shooting.
this was a hate crime against black people the shooter who was white went into this

never understand how some people dislike another person strictly on the color of
their skin. The last factor is terrorism there or militant groups like isis that have

The Effects Of Placental Mammals On Humans
As humans, we get the opportunity to share and coexist on this planet with some
extraordinarily unique and diverse organisms. Of such organisms, the placental
mammals are some of the most adaptable organisms on earth, residing in places as
harsh as the Savannah Desert and the Arctic. Here in Minnesota, we have 75 species
of mammals ranging from the large majestic Moose to the small and nimble Least
Shrew. I got the opportunity to further research the Bobcat, in hopes of understanding
their feeding behavior, reproductive patterns, seasonal movements, and
communication interspecifically as well as intraspecifically. Bobcats belong to the

Male bobcats with their large, muscular bodies have been seen to regularly kill
deer, usually fawns or does in poor physical condition, although in some cases adult
bucks have been taken as well. With that being said, when a severe winter occurs
male bobcats tend to have a higher survival rate compared to female bobcats.
Bobcats are extraordinary hunters, that stalk their prey with immense patience and
stealth. Like most wild felines, bobcats are not capable of extended chases, so they
must get close to their prey, without being seen, before launching their attack
(Hansen 29). One in such adaptation that bobcats, as well as many other felines
possess allowing them to diminish the gap between them and their prey is the,
webbed skin and fur between their toes that help muffle sound as they stalk their
prey (Hansen 33). Bobcats also have sharp retractile claws that are important for
seizing and controlling prey so that the killing bite can be delivered. In reference to a
bobcat s teeth, they also have a distinguishing characteristic in that they lack a set of
premolars, which gives them 28 teeth instead of the usual 30 found in other felines.
Bobcats tend to primarily be solitary hunters, but on occasion females and their
kittens will
Sigatoka Essay
Black Sigatoka of banana and plantain caused by Mycosphaerella fijiensis
History and distribution of the disease
The Sigatoka disease complex currently comprises three organisms: Mycosphaerella
fijiensis M. Morelet, M. musicola R. Leach ex J.L. Mulder, and M. eumusae Crous
Mour. The first species identified was M. musicola in Indonesia in 1902 (Jones
2000) causing the yellow Sigatoka; since then it is present in most banana growing
regions, and it has been a problem in high altitudes and cool temperatures (Mouliom
Pefoura et al., 1996). Mycosphaerella fijiensis, the black Sigatoka or black leaf
streak, was first reported on the island of Fiji in 1963, even though isolates were
more diverse in the Papua New Guinea Philippines region indicating the center of
origin of this pathogen (Stover, 1978). In less than two decades since it was
discovered it had spread out to Central America; nowadays it is distributed
worldwide causing significant damage in high and low altitudes (Agrios, 2005).
Interestingly, it competed successfully with M. musicola causing its replacement
(Carlier et al., 2000). M. fijiensis has been shown to be more virulent then M.
musicola due to develop symptoms more rapidly (Ploetz et al., 2003). Other reasons
for the displacement of M. musicola involve more sexual cycles per year and higher
ascospore production (Strover, 1980).
In the 1990s, M. eumusae was discovered and it seems to be a close relative to the
two species described above. The
The And The Colonists Of The Americas
The original motivations for the Spaniards going to the New World were to spread
Christianity and grow wealthy; however, when they arrived, the actions of the
Spaniards against the natives of the Americas did not reflect these original goals and
led to unanticipated consequences. One such unexpected consequence was a
reliance on slave labor. In order to accomplish the work necessary to make the
profits that the Spaniards had expected, they turned to the natives as a work force.
This need for laborers led the Spanish to enslave the natives, which led to conflict and
cruelty, which went against the initial goal of spreading Christianity; if the
prospective converts are being mistreated by those hoping to do the converting, the
conversion itself becomes much more difficult due to the negative relationship. The
Spaniards strongly believed that it was their sacred duty to save the faithless natives
of the Americasby introducing them to God, and so they did all they could to see this
happen, despite the negative impacts on the relationship between the natives and the
Spaniards. This also made it more difficult to easily exploit the resources of the
region against the wishes of the natives, because the growing bitterness between the
Spanish and the natives made it impossible to successfully work together in an
economic setting in the same way as the Dutch and the French. Thus, the actions of
the Spaniards upon reaching the New World worked mostly against their original
goals of

The goal of this solution based on the patient engagement framework is to discuss
various informatics approaches for effective components/models of care considering
patients as an active participant instead of just care receivers( HIMSS Patient
Engagement Framework, ). However, we need to keep in mind that patients use
multiple sources of information and media(Henwood, Wyatt, Hart, Smith, 2003) and
that there is no one set way to engage every patient.
Let us understand what each specifies in the model and later we will discuss how
informatics tools will cater to the aspects in these stages.
Stage 1: Inform Me
This is the initial stage comprising of informing patients about his health such as in
our case of Lung Cancer Screening, knowing about the various options available,
what treatments have what side effects and how much of the treatment is covered by
the insurance.
Stage 2: Engage Me
This stage focuses on discussing symptoms, fitness and diet tracking of the patient. In
this stage the patient should have knowledge about identifying symptoms of illnesses
he is most susceptible to. Moreover, have knowledge about what preventive steps he
needs to be taking. This stage is aligned with Meaningful Use Stage 1( HIMSS
Patient Engagement Framework, ).
Stage 3: Empower Me
This stage focuses on giving patients access to various tools to allow him to manage
his health conditions and take action about it. This stage is aligned to Meaningful
Use Stage 2( HIMSS Patient
The Analysis of the Ending of the Grapes of Wrath
When you think of the word end you think of the end of a book or movie when the
true definition is a final part of something, esp. a period of time, an activity, or a
story or the furthest or most extreme part or point of something. Webster The ending
of The Grapes of Wrath is just that the most extreme. There are those who believe
that the ending of this book is highly inappropriate and should be banned from
schools for the content. However those people are uneducated and cannot look
beyond the words to see that the ending is seen as beautiful. The true meaningof the
end is about new life, second chances, and the innate kindness that lies within all
people.
The ending is about new life because of Rose of Sharon s baby and what it truly
meant to the Joad family. Throughout the entire novel you experience Rose of
Sharon pregnancy and her struggle to sustain both herself and a child. Generally
babies represent new life, a fresh start, exactly what the Joad family was looking
for from the start of the novel. Unfortunately the baby does not make it, this is very
sad, but also a sigh of relief for the family. If the baby would have survived then
that meant one more mouth to feed. Fortunately she still had her breast milk and
used it to help another life, Says he wasn t hungry, or he jus et. Give me the food.
Now he s too weak. Can thardly move. The ending may be morbid and bleak but the
truth is that if it were not for the death of the baby, the Joad family would be
The Positive And Political Impacts Of The Olympic Games
The Olympics are a wonderful metaphor for world cooperation, the kind of
international competition that s wholesome and healthy, an interplay between
countries that represents the best in all of us, said John Williams, the composer for
theme music for the Olympics (8). The Olympic Games are international sports
festivals that began in ancient Greece. The first ancient Olympics can be traced back
to 776 BC when people held this religious festival to honour Zeus, the father of all
the Greek gods and goddesses. The participants were male citizens from Greece, and
these athletes participated in only one event foot race. Unfortunately, this ancient
Olympics did not last forever. The first olympic in 776 BC in Olympiawas an

The Nazi Olympics in Berlin in 1936 destroyed Hitler s master race history. There
was very definitely a special feeling in winning the gold medal and being a black
man, Woodruff said. We destroyed [Hitler s] master race theory whenever we started
winning those gold medals, said runner John Woodruff (7). John Woodruff was a
black man who won a gold medal. Another African American Jesse Owens won four
track and field gold medals. These two people defied the Aryan ideal that Hitler
believed that Aryan dominated the world. Another important impact the Olympic
brought happened in 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. In that
Olympics, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon refused to participate because of a dispute over the
Suez Canal; Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands boycotted the Games in protest
over the Soviet Union s invasion of Hungary; China boycotted the Games because a
flag of Taiwan was raised in the Olympic Village. The original purpose of the
Olympics was to make the countries collaborate, however, it also brought negative
impacts. Another example is that Olympics in Mexico city in 1968. Americans
politicised the Games by letting two African Americans, Tommie Smith and John
Carlos, represent the United States. Tommie Smith and John Carlos placed first and
third in the track and field. During their medal ceremony, they raised a clenched fist

Within day of the Khmer Rouge coming into power, Cambodia entered into the
darkest time of its history. Two million people were forced to evacuate from the
cities to the countryside in which they would undertake agriculture work. The
Khmer Rouge s goal was to create a rural, classless society and would force people
to work in the fields for more than 12 hours a day without adequate rest or food. The
Khmer Rouge placed a ban on family relationships and began an aggressive campaign
to brainwash children and encourage them to spy on their parents. The children were
taught to report their parents to authorities and turn in their parents as enemies of the
state. Following their coming into power and the evacuations of the citizens, the
Khmer Rouge turned its sights on the people in its own organization.
The Khmer Rouge soon claimed that only pure people were qualified to build their
revolution. They arrested and killed thousands of their soldiers, military officers and
civil servants. In the next three years, the Khmer Rouge would ban religious practice
and abolish money, markets, and private property. School, hospital, shops, offices,
and monasteries were closed. The Khmer Rouge persecuted intellectuals, city
residents and minorities; murdering hundreds of thousands of people over the three
year period. During the Khmer Rouge regime tensions built between the Khmer
Rouge and communist Vietnam. In 1979, the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia and

Nixon’s Use of Executive Privilege to Prevent...
In the summer of 1972, 5 burglars broke into the Watergate hotel where the
democratic convention was being held. The burglars were eventually captured and
arrested, but one of the burglars implicated then President of the United States of
America, Richard Nixon, in the planning of the break in. After weeks of subpoenas
from congress, demanding tapes that were used to record the activities in the White
House. It was then that Richard Nixonwould irrevocably change America s future by
doing something that every president had done before him, he would use executive
privilege to block the investigation into the White House s role into the Watergate
break in. By invoking executive privilege, Richard Nixon proved his guilt and
permanently changed how Americans viewed the president s use of executive
privilege.
Of course, this was not the first time executive privilege had been invoked. In 1776,
George Washington used an offshoot version of executive privilege to withhold
documents relating to a failed military expedition. Although Washington did hand
over the documents to Congress, it would be forever noted that this would be the
first example of executive privilege. Despite not actually using it, it is still seen as
the first use of executive privilege in American history.
In the beginning, it is assumed from George Washington s letter to Congress
regarding executive privilege that he intended executive privilege to be used for
America s well being and not for personal gain.
The Significance of Dreams in of Mice and Men
The Significance of Dreams in Of Mice and Men A major motif of John Steinbeck
s Of Mice and Men is the American dream and the drive to attain it. The life of a
ranch hand is grim, yet the characters in the novel are still vulnerable to dreams of
a better life. The dream of owning land, called the American dream by some, is
what motivates George and Lennie in their work on the ranch. It is their friendship
that sustains this dream and makes it possible. While the dreams are credible to the
reader, in the end all dreams are crushed, and the characters are defeated by their
circumstances. The characters in Of Mice and Men have very little to look forward

However, George needs Lennie just as much as Lennie needs him, which is
apparent at the end of the novel. When George kills Lennie, he also kills the
friendship, which results in the death of the dream within himself. Friendship is
an underlying factor in the dreams of others, as well. Candy and Crooks befriend
George and Lennie when they learn of the possibility of owning land. They share
the same dream as the two new workers, a dream that would have seemed
impossible before the friendship began. Throughout the novel, Steinbeck offers
clues that lead the reader to believe that the dream will be fulfilled. Candy and
Crook s interest in George and Lennie s dream is the main factor that causes the
reader to believe that these two newcomers might actually succeed. Candy believes
in the dream to the extent that he offers three hundred dollars that are needed to
buy the land. Crooks, the Negro stable buck, adds to the effect. At first he is
skeptical of George and Lennie s plan: Ever body wants a little piece of lan ...
Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. It s just in their head

join George and Lennie is an important factor in interrupting the pattern of

Project A Satire
The action hero who does all his own stunts , that is what American audiences
started calling famous Chinese director, actor, and martial arts expert Jackie Chan.
His movies are known to be action packed, full of hand to hand combat, as well as
having some comedic moments. The films analyzed in this paper will be Project A
(1982), Project A 2(1987), as well as Police Story (1985). All of these take place in
Hong Kongand are filled with satirical comedy as well as many martial arts scenes.
During the 1980 s, Hong Kong was known for its wealth, and it was recognized for its
politics, expensive real estate prices, as well as their entertainment. During that time,
the manufacturing industry fell, as other economic aspects like foreign trade and
personal and general community services increased. Since manufacturing... Show

However, when it comes to satirical comedy, I noticed a clear distinction between
the three movies. The first two parts of Project A, give the impression of trying to
portray a more serious role. On the other hand, Police Story, has plenty of satirical
moments as well as some sarcastic ones. My conclusion to this is because Jackie Chan
is trying to make fun of the Hong Kong society at the time. During the 1980 s, crime
in Hong Kong was abundant, and because of it, the director of the film tried to
ridicule the drug cartel portrayed in the movie. They are played as clumsy, and
easily defeated by Jackie Chan s incredible martial arts skills. During the whole
movie, the astute policeman, played by Jackie Chan, constantly outsmarts the Hong
Kong drug cartel. In other words, the Hong Kong cartel is portrayed as stupid and
incompetent. During the Project A films however, even though we do see this
overpower of the protagonist on his enemies, it is not as apparent. Sanpao, as well as
his followers, play a powerful and intimidating role in this
Surveillance In Glen Greenwald s TED Talk
Glen Greenwald starts his TED talk with a scenario that the majority of people are
familiar with. When a person thinks they are alone, they do something
embarrassing, and someone else sees. He then turns this scenario around to the
idea that people will do something, whether it s good or not, as long as nobody sees
them. This is where the concept of mass surveillance comes into play. The common
response to mass surveillance is basically that if a person isn t doing anything wrong
then they have nothing to hide. One of Greenwald s main point on why this is a
such a destructive mindset, is because it means there is only two kinds of people,
good and bad. The good people have nothing to hide, meaning the high amount of
surveillance doesn t matter
The Three Theories Of The Etruscans
Before Rome came to great power, there was a civilization that inhabited Italy, called
the Etruscans, also otherwise known as Tyrrhenians. There are many theories on the
origins and values the Etruscans brought to history as a whole. While the Etruscans
did contribute a lot to history, we don t know exactly just how much they contributed,
as much of their history has been lost. In order to better understand their standing in
historical value, we must discuss the theory of their origin, their history, their society,
and their culture. To gain better knowledge we need to evaluate the three theories of
the Etruscans origins. The three theories consist of coming from Anatolia which is
now modern day Turkey, they developed from the local Iron... Show more content on

They used warfare to their advantage by combatting piracy, invading neighboring
territory to gain land and holding campaigns in the summer months to raid nearby
civilizations. They used these methods of warfare to gain resources and goods to
aid their society. The Etruscans would kidnap people as such from other clans and
societies and hold them for ransom. This way they would get a high amount of
goods in exchange for their captive. Slaves were also obtained via warfare, mainly
by combatting piracy as said above. With slaves they could build a stronger society
by using them for hard tasks that would be potentially dangerous for society
members. Some slaves were sacrificed in tombs to show honor to fallen Etruscan
leaders,
Claude Duckay And The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a time of rebirth in Harlem, New York. It was
comprised of mostly African Americans. During this time, it was an explosion of
culture in which arts, music, and literature came from. It was time a time where
African Americans expressed their culture and talked about the injustices that they
faced. The most popular genre of this time was jazz. African Americans were subject
to racial discrimination, making it hard for them to find jobs. Raceriots and lynch
mobs were also very common during this time. Festus Claudius Claude McKay
was born in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica on September 15th, 1889. At the age of
seven, he moved to live with his older brother, Uriah Theodor, who was a school
teacher. During this time, he learned British literature, science, and philosophy and
at the age of ten he began writing. During his time with his brother, he met with
Walter Jekyll. Who heavily influenced his work. Many of McKay s works about his
homeland were inspired by Jekyll. At the age of seventeen, he moved to the U.S.
were he mostly lived for the rest of his life. In the U.S. he learned that racismwas a
social norm and segregation was a common theme in his works. Like many writers
during the Harlem Renaissance, McKay was heavily influenced by racism. The
subject of racism was the subject of one of his most famous poems, If We Must Die.
If We Must Die is a short poem, but it is full of themes and utilizes literary devices

Nominalism Essay
Nominalism The great revival of philosophical and theological study which the
thirteenth century witnessed was conditioned by the influence of Aristotle. The
theory of the universe propounded by the Stagirite had to be reconciled with the
traditional Platonic Augustinian realism. This Thomas Aquinas undertook to do,
following, Aristotle as closely as possible. Duns Scotus, on the other hand, attempted
to maintain the ancient realism, while supporting it by modern or Aristotelian
methods. Interests and tendencies, however, came up in his work which drove his
disciples away from his position. The growth of empirical research and psychological

In respect of the theory of cognition, where Duns Scotus had placed between the
perceiving subject and the object perceived a sensible species and an intelligible
species, Ockham considers these as superfluous machinery. Objects call forth sense
impressions in us, which are transmuted by the active intellect into mental images.
These images are thus a product of the intellect, not species which flow from the
object into the intellectus possibilis. The reality of these images is thus, in the
modern use of the terms, not objective but subjective. This is true not merely of the
terms of first intention formed directly from sense impression, but also of the terms
of second intention, i.e., the abstract terms which take note of common attributes, or
universals. These latter correspond to a tendency of the human mind, which can not
perceive individuals without at the same time attempting to form a general concept. A
white object simultaneously suggests abstract whiteness; an extended, related,
enduring object forces the conception of extension, relation, duration. The result of
this line of reasoning is the absolute subjectivity of all concepts and universals and
the limitation of knowledge to the mind and its concepts although these are real
entities because of their subjective existence in the mind, reproducing the actual
according to the constitution of the mind. Thus Ockham is really the pioneer of
modern epistemology. The
A High Quality Of Family Target Group
From my perspective, Walt Disney corporate strategy is to develop a high quality of
family target group. They want to adapt to advance in technology so that the best
work would always be produced to make their pastime experience more significant
than the others. They also want to expand more internationally. I believe that the
stability of the family brand industry is not just to be passion based, but to combine
other things like media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer
products, and interactive media (pg.276). This acknowledges Walt Disneyto become

Media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, and the consumer products
are all seem to be a great fit strategically for Disney. Disney has authority in television
media, they advertise all about their parks, movies studios and other entertainment.
The success of Disney in each 5 industries will continue to form on their strengths. I
believe they will continue to accomplish returns in each unit. From analyzing this
case, most of their costs came from the development of their characters. I will do an
assessment of strategic fit potentials between Walt Disney company s business units.

Aerodynamic Braking System On A Race Car
Aerodynamic Braking system on a race car

Abstract Every second in a racing competition counts the performance of a team
against the other. Many innovative and sophisticated techniques are being employed
to overcome loses in time and add to the performance of the vehicle. Especially in a
car racing challenge there is more freedom to install these innovative systems to
empower the car to maximum efficiency due to availability of more space. At the
global spectrum there are few events which encourage such innovations. Formula

Like any racing event, a student racing event also has the thrill and intensity of
competition. Minimal lap timings are the concern of all the participating teams.
Along with good acceleration and high velocity, a good deceleration is an
important parameter which decides the performance of the vehicle. A good
amount of deceleration is required especially while maneuvering sharp corners
[2]. Besides, the Formula Student racing event is classified into static events and
dynamic events. In order to qualify to the dynamic events every team must clear
the scrutinizing which include the brake test [3] wherein every car should brake
in a straight line between two marked lines on the track. It can be accounted that
better deceleration is required to execute smooth cornering and qualify the brake
test. In order to increase the braking ability of the car, the drag created while
steering can be utilized. The aerodynamic wings also known as the spoilers can be
modified to capture the drag force created due to the motion of the vehicle and
thereby contribute to braking. This paper is based on the work done over the NITK
Racing Formula Student Car to capture the drag force by changing the angle of
attack of the rear airfoil while braking. On application of brakes, the aerodynamic
wings present at the rear is adjusted to corresponding angle of attack where the drag
created is maximum. A study has been done to find the amount
The Three Concepts Of Teacher Efficacy
Bandura (1977) has defined Teacher Efficacy as a type of Self Efficacy in which
people construct belief about their capacity to perform at a given level of attainment.
This type of Self Efficacy is future oriented and influences thought patterns and
emotions. According to this theory, Efficacy may be easily influenced early in learning
, so the first years of teaching could be critical to the long term development of
Teacher Efficacy.
Tschannen Moran et al., (1998) Teachers sense of Efficacy is related to student
outcomes such as achievement, motivation, sense of Efficacy and Teachers behavior
in the classroom. A strong sense of Efficacy makes Teachers open to new ideas, more

If well managed, classrooms can become places of freedom to learn and can provide
safety for students. If not distracted, students can attend to instruction and further
their long term memory for retrieving information when taking examinations, doing
assignments, and studying. Such an environment can obviously reduce the number
low achieving students. Unfortunately, little research exists regarding teacher self
efficacy for Classroom Management. According to Woolfolk, Rosoff, and Hoy
(1990), It is possible that a sense of personal efficacy becomes related to beliefs
about control only after some years of actual experience in classrooms (p.

Rothschild and Brassard (2006) noted teachers with high personal efficacy making

Howard Becker Essay
Howard Becker (1963) was the main theorist that constructed the modern labelling
theory in the context of deviance. In his research, Becker (1963) finds that when
individuals or a particular group s actions or characteristics have been labelled as
deviant by the wider society, it brands this individual or group for life. The effect
of this label is so powerful that Becker s research discovered that individuals and
groups that have been branded as deviant begin to be associated with the word
deviant . As a result all other characteristics and roles this individual or group plays
in society such as mother, father or priest etc. all become dwarfed by this deviant
label. Therefore it becomes so severe in some cases that the deviant label becomes
their sole identity (Becker 1963).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Database Management System Software ( Dbms )
IntroductionDatabase management system software (DBMS) is the software that
can operate on the front and back end of an organization s database. As do the
database requirements of an organization differ, so do the types of DBMS software.
The type of DBMS software required can often be narrowed down to the
organization s size and industry (Mohamed 2016). Currently, the top three DBMSs
are Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server( MicrosoftSQLServer vs. MySQL vs.

MySQL also has a low total cost of ownership, in part, due to its diverse platform
capabilities, free use for simple users, and in house operations. As a result of
MySQL s broad compatibility and ability to perform typical database needs, it is an
appropriate selection for organizations looking for a cost effective DBMS for
lightweight to medium weight database requirements. MySQL has different editions
to meet the database needs of organizations. The different editions are as follows:
MySQL Community, Standard, Enterprise, and Cluster Carrier Grade ( MySQL ::
MySQL Editions 2016). The free MySQL Community Edition has the least features,
has very limited security, and only limited support on the forums. Organizations
seeking support might choose MySQL Standard Edition for an annual subscription at
$2,000, which offers 24/7 support but also has limited security and is unable to offer
security, backup capabilities, and scalability. If security is a concern for an
organization, MySQL Enterprise Edition offers the previous editions feature in
addition to security, database backup, scalability, and an audit program for a yearly
subscription of $5,000. For organizations operating at multiple locations with high
automation needs, MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition can automatically support
the organization and has automated repair function to maintain continuity for an
annual subscription of $10,000. The
The Protagonists In YA Fiction
It is easy to dismiss teenagers; it is even easier to dismiss teen literature. Someone
asked me once why I liked reading young adult fiction and I said that it is within
this genre that I am able to read and explore that which most people do not like to
talk about. It is this genuinely truthful nature behind the genre that I believe would
create a class where students could explore and question the world and the lives
people live.
Books often times reveal something about society and the time, in which it was
written, YA fictionis no exception. Protagonists in YA novels are still growing up
creating a point of view that allows the injustices of their world shine through. For
instance, in the world of The Giver deals with a dehumanized and immoral
community that pushes people categories. Jonas, a 12 year old boy, is able to pick
up on the growing cost of being part of a community that functions corruptly. This is
not so different from our own society where categories have become quintessential
and individuals have become numb to the world outside of them. ... Show more

YA literature sheds light on these topics by showcasing the somewhat sadder and
darker human experience. In The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Charlie is forced to

Modern Uses of Cultivated Algae Essays
Modern Uses of Cultivated Algae
Algae are a group of plants that dominate the aquatic environment (Raymount, 1984).
Organisms that make up the algae include representatives from three kingdoms and
seven divisions: cyanochloranta and prochorophyta (from Kingdom Monera),
pyrrhophyta, chrysophyta, phaeophyta, and rhodophyta (from Kingdom Protista),
and chlorophyta (from Kingdom Plantae). All seven divisions are called algae because
of a lack of roots, stems, and leaves; and most algal cells are fertile. The basic
metabolic processes are located in the individual cell and all lack the xylem/phloem
transport system of higher plants . These different plant like organisms have been
used for human food and animal follage.

had his and his whole army s lives on the line in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend to the
British forces when the Cherokee allied with them to win the battle. Surprisingly, 16
years later when Jackson was President of the United States, he made the deciding
decision on the controversy of whether or not the Cherokee deserved their land.
Jackson completed the Indian Removal Act in 1830, sending the Cherokee out of their
own land which they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were walking mostly through moist valleys and forests which provided some
nutrition and shelter. The weather was overall favorable for the Cherokee during
the Trail of Tears. The rivers were also helpful to the Cherokee as a source of food
and basis for navigation.
Some may wonder why the Cherokee did not fight for their land. Historians
suggest that the Cherokee knew America was a more powerful force. They were
also a peaceful tribe that didn t wish to start a war, so they instead chose to go and
find new land. Based on their belief system they valued peace, not violence. This
made the Cherokee distinctive to other tribes involved in the Trail of Tears, because
they peacefully left while the other tribes planned to fight until they realized they had
a small chance of winning a battle against Jackson and America. The Cherokee knew
that America was acting harsh and cruel towards them, but they didn t believe
strongly in acts of violence. The Cherokee would also communicate with Jackson
occasionally (not often at all) about their progress and health during their voyage.
After their long, treacherous voyage, they reached their new land where they had to
resettle, and had to start all over again.
When the Cherokee resettled, they were a different group with no leaders; everybody
became the same during their voyage to new settlement. The Cherokee then became
more civilized, and began to fade
The Internet and Global Politics
Accorodng to Badie Royal (2000), they showed that the internet has affected the
global politics through increasing political participation. The innovation of internet
brought with itself the ability to allow people to participate in political events
differently. Internet allows people to influence the government decisions via
comments posted on websites and send e mails of political contents (Ferdinand,
2000). Nowadays, many governments are launching political websites and media to
seek public opinions on critical issues, which further suggest that the internet
facilitates the westernization of some countries. Furthermore, the internet has
changed or improves the way politics is running by providing alternative activities to
offline political activities (Howland, 2002). In the past, to run a protest, an offline
activity must have been set up by visiting government offices to present critical
political issues (Howland,2002). Currently, it is extremely easy to protest against a
politician or a government department by interacting to the media through email or
forums. Therefore, the internet seems to have shortened the completely bureaucratic
and complicated process and saved time/resources. In the flipside of the coins, the
integration of internet into political environment has some negative impacts and
undermining the process of westernization (Ferdinand, 2000). Western governmental
organizations are the key players in spreading the western democracies and values
through
Elizabeth Margaret Marberry s Dandelion Wine
Although Elizabeth Margaret Marberry never explicitly provides a personal
critique for Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine, the reader can infer some of her
opinions about the book in her descriptions of the story, themes and meaning, and
context. Marberry, for instances, writes the book is structured through the
thematic interrelation of a series of vignettes taking place over the course of the
summer of 1928 in the small, idealized Midwestern town of Green Town, Illinois
(Marberry 295) expressing her believe that Dandelion Wine varies from the
traditional narrative. When she stated the idealized Midwestern town, she implied
that a town with the characters of Green Town simply does not exist. At the end of
her summary of the story, Marberry declares that at the end of the story, Douglas
has completed his journey (Marberry 296) suggesting he learned all he could learn
that summer and would no longer go on adventures. Elizabeth Margaret Marberry
concludes her critique by stating, it is a mixture of idealization ad realistic portrayal
of the coming of age that makes these works so appealing to young and old readers
alike (Marberry 297; Marberry 295 297).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Never really thinking about what it feels like to be alive, Douglas led to me to
question why? Why do people exist? Why does every situation hold both a
positive and negative affect? Why does my family not have as many traditions as
the Spauldings? How come I never realized that I feel different, more alive, in the
summer than the winter? Why? Through Douglas, Bradbury encourages the readers
of Dandelion Wine to reflect upon their lives and figure out the answers for
themselves. I appreciate an author who, instead of simply telling a story, forces his
readers to think and reflect on his or her own life. I rate Dandelion Wine an eight
out of ten and desire to read numerous other books by Ray Bradbury and other similar
Pablo Picasso Conflict
TITLE: How do Pablo Picasso s Guernica and Roy Lichtenstein s Whaam! reflect
the development of modes of representation in relation to conflict in twentieth
century art? INTRODUCTION TO CONFLICT IN ART The evidence of conflict
in art is present from the beginning of civilization to the present day. We can see
early examples of representations of conflict such as the twenty centimetre wide
rock painting dated 8000 3000BC and found in the Gasulla gorge near Castellon,
Spain, showing a ritual dance involving bows and arrows which can be seen as a
war or hunting dance. (Brandon, 2007) Conflict is part of the human condition and
humans have portrayed this aspect of their lives for as long as we have produced
works of art. INTRODUCTION TO ESSAY... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This interview with the title Why I joined the Communist Party was first published
in condensed form in the New York magazine New Masses and was later fully
published in the French Communist Party newspaper. In Why I joined the
Communist Party Picasso explains he had always wished that he could reach an
understanding of the world and of men through his both weapons (drawing and
colour) with the aim of achieving liberation. However after years of oppression he
understood that that alone wasn t enough therefore he stated I must fight not only
through my art, but with all myself (Picasso, AIT, 648) His Communist Party
membership caused tensions among the world of art, especially with Socialist
Realism artists as after Picasso denied any symbolic meaning in his works they
claimed that his Communism had no substance. In 1945, in an interview with the
French journalist Simone Tery he was told of these claims before he wrote Statement
to Simone Tery . In this statement Picasso defends his art by pointing out that an
artist is a political being, constantly vigilant to the events of the world and that
painting is an instrument for offensive and defensive war against the enemy (Picasso,

What Accounting Considerations Are There For
Companies...
E) What notable accounting considerations are there for companies in this industry?
Most companies in the telecommunication industry rely heavily on assumptions and
estimations when dealing with their number one assets: telecommunication licenses
and Goodwill. A summary of the critical accounting estimates used in preparing
Verizon financial statements is as follows: Wireless licenses and Goodwill are a
significant component of the company s consolidated assets. Both wireless licenses
and Goodwill are treated as indefinite lived intangible assets and, therefore are not
amortized, but rather are tested for impairment annually in the fourth fiscal quarter,
unless there are events requiring an earlier assessment or changes in circumstances
during an interim period that indicate these assets may not be recoverable. Verizon
believes its estimates and assumptions are reasonable and represent appropriate
marketplace considerations as of the valuation date. Although the company uses
consistent methodologies in developing the assumptions and estimates underlying the
fair value calculations used in its impairment tests, these estimates are uncertain by
nature and can vary from actual results. It is possible that in the future there may be
changes in the assumptions, including estimated cash flow projections, margins, and
growth rates and discount rates which could result in different fair value estimates
and an impairment charge. F) Is the company in a highly regulated industry?
Super Rugby Research Paper
Rugby Union is a sport that has been a key part of Australian culture for hundreds
of years. It began as a modest competition between a few clubs but slowly went
through many changes over the last century. In this paper, I will discuss the
history and outcomes of the gradual commercialization of Rugby Union and relate
it to my experience at a Super Rugby game. By the turn of the 20th century, Rugby
Union was already undergoing a significant change. Popular clubs were being
disbanded in favor of creating district clubs . Although it was met with criticism
100 years ago, I believe this was a step in the right direction, as we learned the
importance of linking a club to its community in our studies of Rugby League. After
a brief period of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First and foremost, a game that was once played and viewed for fun now requires
fans to purchase tickets to enter. Also, they were playing in a stadium sponsored
by the insurance company Allianz, and that was only the beginning of the
advertisements I saw. All over the stadium were billboards advertising various
companies. The jerseys that the players wore even had advertisements on them, as
did the ones being sold to adoring fans. Furthermore, concession stands sold
average food and beverages at relatively high prices. This certainly does not mean I
did not enjoy my experience at the game far from it, in fact. The matchup and
game itself was a far more exciting experience than I had at the Rugby League
game, and the blatant commercialization did not take away from the event.
Nonetheless, it was quite obvious that the franchises try to nickel and dime the
fans at every turn, but this is something I have come to expect after years of
attending sporting events. All in all, it is easy to see how and why Rugby Union
has become commercialized over the years. The sport had to make changes to
survive, and it ended up working out well for the sport and its fans. Even if it now
costs money to attend an event that was somewhat recently free to watch, I am happy
to pay money to the cause if it means keeping these teams

  • 1. Compare And Contrast Essay On High School And College Writing a compare and contrast essay on the topic of high school and college can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies not only in the need to delve into the intricacies of two distinct educational phases but also in the nuanced approach required to highlight their similarities and differences effectively. To begin with, one must navigate the vast array of experiences and aspects that define high school and college life. These could range from academic differences, such as the level of independence in learning and the depth of subject matter, to social aspects, including the nature of relationships with peers and instructors. The challenge is to strike a balance between providing a comprehensive overview and avoiding the pitfall of overwhelming the reader with details. Furthermore, articulating the essence of each educational stage and drawing meaningful comparisons demand a keen understanding of the underlying dynamics. One must consider the academic rigor, social environment, extracurricular opportunities, and personal responsibilities that characterize both high school and college experiences. It requires a careful examination of the unique challenges and advantages that each phase presents, making sure to present a nuanced and well-rounded perspective. Additionally, crafting a well-structured essay requires the ability to seamlessly weave together a cohesive narrative. The introduction should provide a clear thesis statement that sets the stage for the comparison, while the body paragraphs should delve into specific aspects with supporting evidence and examples. Transitioning between contrasting ideas and maintaining a logical flow is crucial to keeping the reader engaged. All of what they own, or have, or even what they are, depend wholly on this child s abominable misery . Who is this child? He who is locked away in a windowless dirty basement. They all know that it has to be there but their gilt is less than their personal striving for happiness. Sometimes it s said that to obtain a victory, someone must have a loss. Here we see what modern society can have the same selfishness. All of Omelas happiness is based on discrimination of what is necessary. F they wish to consume drugs or have endless sex, they can simply do so. The only victory they celebrate is that of life. Their

When I first saw the topic of this essay to discuss the primary differences between grass fed and corn fed beef. I had thought to myself hmmm I was thinking all cows had just ate grass. I always thought cow s were slow food because they ate grass but I wondered how so much beef was being produced so fast, but then I thought about all the chicken steroid stories. Cows are ruminants designed by nature to stay healthy and be totally sustained taking nourishment on grass and only grass. Cows, have stomachs that are designed to digest grass. Grass fed beef won t look and doesn t taste exactly the same every time you buy it. Grass fed beef also has a reputation for being tough and lacking tenderness, but is said to be more juicier and true beefy flavor. Some studies show there isn t a real clear cut, consistent taste differences between grass fed and corn fed beef. Corn fed beef has more fat than grass fed beef so the cook, chef would have more room for error with some corn fed beef rather than some grass fed because that fat adds flavor that you can lose if you overcook leaner grass fed beef. But like the organic free range chicken and regular grocery store chicken we had in contemparary class, being raised on corn fed beef, the texture and flavor of grass fed beef can taste a bit off and we may think it doesn t taste how true beef should taste. The styrofoam containers of corn and grain fed convential beef that are at the Shop and Save s, Schnucks will be more cheaper than a pack of grass fed beef at Whole foods or any other local markets that sell grass fed beef. You probably could get grass fed beef for the same price as your corn beef a Diebergs or other grocery stores if you where to buy directly from a farmer of livestock. Traditionally, before man started to produce and make a living off of cow s, all beef was grass fed beef, but due to the man s

Independence Day has tended to be a reliable benchmark for when the free agent fever starts to cool. Usually the players at the top of the free agent power ranking make their decision within the first few days and then the other pieces of the puzzle start to fall in to place. But sometimes it s not always those first big names that raise teams to new championship aspirations. We all know the names that move the needle. But maybe more importantly than if he exceeds expectations and becomes a good replacement for Aldridge, his addition shows a forward thinking approach at a time when the Blazers could have operated from a position of panic and desperation. • 7. Catalase Lab Introduction The effect different temperatures have on the rate that enzymes work was tested by this lab. The concentration of the enzyme catalase in different tissues was also tested. It was tested by pouring 5 ml of hydrogen peroxide over liver in different conditions and over a piece of meat and potato. Enzymes are balls of protein that change a specific substrate into a product by contact at the active site. Enzymes are reusable and once they finish tuning one substrate into a product, it moves on to the next substrate it bumps into in just the right way. The enzymecatalase, which this lab focuses on, can be found in the tissues of plants and animals. Catalase is very important because it takes in hydrogen peroxide, which is toxic to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Catalase is an enzyme and enzymes rely on being able to move around in order to bump into its substrate. Molecules don t move around as much when it is cold compared to when it is room temperature, so enzymes are less likely to bump into their substrates, which explains the small reaction for the cold liver. On the other end, you can relate the warm and hot liver reactions to having a fever. The warm liver is like when you just have a low fever, your body is simply trying to make your enzymes work faster by increasing the temperature which increases that movement of molecules, likely so you can fight off an infection of some sort. The hot liver, however, is when the fever starts to get too high and the risk of damaging brain cells comes into play. Extreme heat is one of the factors that leads to the denaturation of proteins. When a protein is denatured its structural shape is changed, and so is its function. This is because structure and function go hand in

Bobcats are extraordinary hunters, that stalk their prey with immense patience and stealth. Like most wild felines, bobcats are not capable of extended chases, so they must get close to their prey, without being seen, before launching their attack (Hansen 29). One in such adaptation that bobcats, as well as many other felines possess allowing them to diminish the gap between them and their prey is the, webbed skin and fur between their toes that help muffle sound as they stalk their prey (Hansen 33). Bobcats also have sharp retractile claws that are important for seizing and controlling prey so that the killing bite can be delivered. In reference to a bobcat s teeth, they also have a distinguishing characteristic in that they lack a set of premolars, which gives them 28 teeth instead of the usual 30 found in other felines. Sigatoka Essay Black Sigatoka of banana and plantain caused by Mycosphaerella fijiensis History and distribution of the disease The Sigatoka disease complex currently comprises three organisms: Mycosphaerella fijiensis M. Morelet, M. musicola R. Leach ex J.L. Mulder, and M. eumusae Crous Mour. The first species identified was M. musicola in Indonesia in 1902 (Jones 2000) causing the yellow Sigatoka; since then it is present in most banana growing regions, and it has been a problem in high altitudes and cool temperatures (Mouliom Pefoura et al., 1996). Mycosphaerella fijiensis, the black Sigatoka or black leaf streak, was first reported on the island of Fiji in 1963, even though isolates were more diverse in the Papua New Guinea Philippines region indicating the center of origin of this pathogen (Stover, 1978). In less than two decades since it was discovered it had spread out to Central America; nowadays it is distributed worldwide causing significant damage in high and low altitudes (Agrios, 2005). Interestingly, it competed successfully with M. musicola causing its replacement (Carlier et al., 2000). M. fijiensis has been shown to be more virulent then M. musicola due to develop symptoms more rapidly (Ploetz et al., 2003). Other reasons for the displacement of M. musicola involve more sexual cycles per year and higher ascospore production (Strover, 1980). In the 1990s, M. eumusae was discovered and it seems to be a close relative to the two species described above. The

The And The Colonists Of The Americas The original motivations for the Spaniards going to the New World were to spread Christianity and grow wealthy; however, when they arrived, the actions of the Spaniards against the natives of the Americas did not reflect these original goals and led to unanticipated consequences. One such unexpected consequence was a reliance on slave labor. In order to accomplish the work necessary to make the profits that the Spaniards had expected, they turned to the natives as a work force. This need for laborers led the Spanish to enslave the natives, which led to conflict and cruelty, which went against the initial goal of spreading Christianity; if the prospective converts are being mistreated by those hoping to do the converting, the conversion itself becomes much more difficult due to the negative relationship. The Spaniards strongly believed that it was their sacred duty to save the faithless natives of the Americasby introducing them to God, and so they did all they could to see this happen, despite the negative impacts on the relationship between the natives and the Spaniards. This also made it more difficult to easily exploit the resources of the region against the wishes of the natives, because the growing bitterness between the Spanish and the natives made it impossible to successfully work together in an economic setting in the same way as the Dutch and the French. Thus, the actions of the Spaniards upon reaching the New World worked mostly against their original goals of

After weeks of subpoenas from congress, demanding tapes that were used to record the activities in the White House. It was then that Richard Nixonwould irrevocably change America s future by doing something that every president had done before him, he would use executive privilege to block the investigation into the White House s role into the Watergate break in. By invoking executive privilege, Richard Nixon proved his guilt and permanently changed how Americans viewed the president s use of executive privilege. Of course, this was not the first time executive privilege had been invoked. In 1776, George Washington used an offshoot version of executive privilege to withhold documents relating to a failed military expedition. Although Washington did hand over the documents to Congress, it would be forever noted that this would be the first example of executive privilege. Despite not actually using it, it is still seen as the first use of executive privilege in American history. In the beginning, it is assumed from George Washington s letter to Congress regarding executive privilege that he intended executive privilege to be used for America s well being and not for personal gain.

In respect of the theory of cognition, where Duns Scotus had placed between the perceiving subject and the object perceived a sensible species and an intelligible species, Ockham considers these as superfluous machinery. Objects call forth sense impressions in us, which are transmuted by the active intellect into mental images. These images are thus a product of the intellect, not species which flow from the object into the intellectus possibilis. The reality of these images is thus, in the modern use of the terms, not objective but subjective. This is true not merely of the terms of first intention formed directly from sense impression, but also of the terms of second intention, i.e., the abstract terms which take note of common attributes, or universals. These latter correspond to a tendency of the human mind, which can not perceive individuals without at the same time attempting to form a general concept. A white object simultaneously suggests abstract whiteness; an extended, related, enduring object forces the conception of extension, relation, duration. The result of this line of reasoning is the absolute subjectivity of all concepts and universals and the limitation of knowledge to the mind and its concepts although these are real entities because of their subjective existence in the mind, reproducing the actual according to the constitution of the mind. Thus Ockham is really the pioneer of modern epistemology. The

Along with good acceleration and high velocity, a good deceleration is an important parameter which decides the performance of the vehicle. A good amount of deceleration is required especially while maneuvering sharp corners [2]. Besides, the Formula Student racing event is classified into static events and dynamic events. In order to qualify to the dynamic events every team must clear the scrutinizing which include the brake test [3] wherein every car should brake in a straight line between two marked lines on the track. It can be accounted that better deceleration is required to execute smooth cornering and qualify the brake test. In order to increase the braking ability of the car, the drag created while steering can be utilized. The aerodynamic wings also known as the spoilers can be modified to capture the drag force created due to the motion of the vehicle and thereby contribute to braking. This paper is based on the work done over the NITK Racing Formula Student Car to capture the drag force by changing the angle of attack of the rear airfoil while braking. On application of brakes, the aerodynamic wings present at the rear is adjusted to corresponding angle of attack where the drag created is maximum. A study has been done to find the amount

Someone asked me once why I liked reading young adult fiction and I said that it is within this genre that I am able to read and explore that which most people do not like to talk about. It is this genuinely truthful nature behind the genre that I believe would create a class where students could explore and question the world and the lives people live. Books often times reveal something about society and the time, in which it was written, YA fictionis no exception. Protagonists in YA novels are still growing up creating a point of view that allows the injustices of their world shine through. The rivers were also helpful to the Cherokee as a source of food and basis for navigation. Some may wonder why the Cherokee did not fight for their land. Historians suggest that the Cherokee knew America was a more powerful force. They were also a peaceful tribe that didn t wish to start a war, so they instead chose to go and find new land. Based on their belief system they valued peace, not violence. This made the Cherokee distinctive to other tribes involved in the Trail of Tears, because they peacefully left while the other tribes planned to fight until they realized they had a small chance of winning a battle against Jackson and America. The Cherokee knew that America was acting harsh and cruel towards them, but they didn t believe strongly in acts of violence. The innovation of internet brought with itself the ability to allow people to participate in political events differently. Internet allows people to influence the government decisions via comments posted on websites and send e mails of political contents (Ferdinand, 2000). Nowadays, many governments are launching political websites and media to seek public opinions on critical issues, which further suggest that the internet facilitates the westernization of some countries. Furthermore, the internet has changed or improves the way politics is running by providing alternative activities to offline political activities (Howland, 2002). In the past, to run a protest, an offline activity must have been set up by visiting government offices to present critical political issues (Howland,2002). Currently, it is extremely easy to protest against a politician or a government department by interacting to the media through email or forums. Therefore, the internet seems to have shortened the completely bureaucratic and complicated process and saved time/resources. In the flipside of the coins, the integration of internet into political environment has some negative impacts and undermining the process of westernization (Ferdinand, 2000). Western governmental organizations are the key players in spreading the western democracies and values through

Elizabeth Margaret Marberry s Dandelion Wine Although Elizabeth Margaret Marberry never explicitly provides a personal critique for Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine, the reader can infer some of her opinions about the book in her descriptions of the story, themes and meaning, and context. Marberry, for instances, writes the book is structured through the thematic interrelation of a series of vignettes taking place over the course of the summer of 1928 in the small, idealized Midwestern town of Green Town, Illinois (Marberry 295) expressing her believe that Dandelion Wine varies from the traditional narrative. When she stated the idealized Midwestern town, she implied that a town with the characters of Green Town simply does not exist. At the end of her summary of the story, Marberry declares that at the end of the story, Douglas has completed his journey (Marberry 296) suggesting he learned all he could learn that summer and would no longer go on adventures. Elizabeth Margaret Marberry concludes her critique by stating, it is a mixture of idealization ad realistic portrayal of the coming of age that makes these works so appealing to young and old readers alike (Marberry 297; Marberry 295 297).... Most companies in the telecommunication industry rely heavily on assumptions and estimations when dealing with their number one assets: telecommunication licenses and Goodwill. A summary of the critical accounting estimates used in preparing Verizon financial statements is as follows: Wireless licenses and Goodwill are a significant component of the company s consolidated assets. Both wireless licenses and Goodwill are treated as indefinite lived intangible assets and, therefore are not amortized, but rather are tested for impairment annually in the fourth fiscal quarter, unless there are events requiring an earlier assessment or changes in circumstances during an interim period that indicate these assets may not be recoverable. Verizon believes its estimates and assumptions are reasonable and represent appropriate marketplace considerations as of the valuation date. Although the company uses consistent methodologies in developing the assumptions and estimates underlying the fair value calculations used in its impairment tests, these estimates are uncertain by nature and can vary from actual results. It is possible that in the future there may be changes in the assumptions, including estimated cash flow projections, margins, and growth rates and discount rates which could result in different fair value estimates and an impairment charge.
